#we love when Lin's wife defends her

Hello! Sooo I had this idea of a forbidden love story between Bihan and the reader. The reader is a good friend of Liu Kang and was assigned to assist Kaui Liang and Tomas with the Shirai Ryu and becomes friends with them. Despite all that, Bihan was already in love with the reader because she's genuinely a good and innocent person and feels the need to be protective of her while the reader struggles with her feelings because he's now a traitor even though she's attracted to him.
How Could You
Prior notes: Reader: I think I’m in love with Bi-Han. Any thoughts?
Liu Kang: And prayers, you’re going to need them.
Pairing: Bi-Han x Afab reader
Warnings ‼️: Angst or even none. I don’t know you decide. I’m not your mom, Tyler!
Tumblr media
Bi-Han was many things but you would have never imagined he would be a traitor to Earthrealm. It broke your heart to hear the news from Lord Liu Kang. But that feeling was swept away once he gave you more news.
“Not all hope is lost. Kuai Liang and Tomas have creating a new clan to defend Earthrealm. The Shirai Ryu. Your service is needed as I want you to help their clan grow strong. For now there are no threats but we can never be too careful.” He said.
You have your own mission now. A service to Lord Liu Kang, to the Shirai Ryu, and Earthrealm. But you can’t get over that feeling in your chest. That sorrow of Bi-Han being gone.
══💤══╡°˖✧🦊✧˖°╞══💤══
Your service was indeed needed. Finding the right initiates was difficult even with the help of Harumi. The only one who was able to bring any hope was Hanzo yet even he needed a lot of work.
Your personality made it easier. Your heart of gold attracted many to come. None wanted to disappoint you. If someone failed and they saw you frown they immediately fixed their errors just to see you smile and cheer them on.
Your need to care for others also helped greatly. If anyone was injured you were quick to patch them up and make sure they were well rested. It quenched people’s worries about being badly hurt and never recovering. If you can care for a little bunny who was only acting hurt for attention, you can take great care of a person.
You also grew closer to Kuai Liang and Tomas. Kuai Liang would have thought this task would be much more difficult even with the help of his wife. Seeing how you brought hundreds to the clan and continue to bring more made you a true gem to him. Tomas especially was grateful of your good deeds. You were useful when training the initiates as you were able to simplify instructions to the others comprehension. If Tomas wasn’t able to make them do what he wanted them to do he would have thrown in the towel way too early.
You even sparked a great relationship with Harumi and Hanzo. Harumi not only appreciated your help when it came to training but housing all the new initiates. You made everyone comfortable and placed them in the rooms they most likely wanted to stay in. You gathered food and helped cook as well. Cooking for hundreds was not an easy task but you were always willing to help and give the healthiest meals. Everyone needed to be in tip top shape. Hanzo, though a rambunctious teenager with great anger, was able to be calmed by your presence. I think he could sense that you have a good heart. You understood his frustration and how he had to survive by being a thief. You reassured him that those days are done and he is in good hands. He will become great and strong, you will make sure of that.
The Shirai Ryu was flourishing. The combined effort of everyone resulted in a fine clan. A clan you felt like could be as great as the Lin Kuei. Things looked up yet you still felt down about Bi-Han’s betrayal. You’re not alone in that and you knew it. You couldn’t let others find out about your feelings. So when the end of the day would come and you were left by yourself, your smile would falter. Tears would prick your eyes. You thought Bi-Han would be good, at least for you.
══💤══╡°˖✧🦊✧˖°╞══💤══
Bi-Han felt it was necessary to separate his clan from the binds of Lord Liu Kang. But at what cost.
He has earned them infamy which he could never accept. But he was forced to accept the fact that he lost you. He lost the one person who could warm his frozen heart. Hands that would hold his heart and let the ice melt.
Even when you two met there was a strange spark. You would always go next to him yet keep distance as to not upset him. You would say anything and everything to him when he never asked for him. At first he would tell you to shut up and leave him alone. No matter what you always came back. You would be hiding behind a tree and watching him from a distance just to get a glimpse of him.
You never knew why but Bi-Han made you feel things. Maybe it was his handsome face. Or that deep voice that when he grunted you felt something in your stomach. Or his muscles that seemed so fun to touch. Soon enough he started getting the hint.
You know what they say, opposites attract. Though he always found goodness to be a weakness he saw how it benefited. Whenever you visited the Lin Kuei wanted to impress you and so they worked harder than before. All those times Bi-Han would yell at them they never worked harder. But encouragement from you made them into fighting machines. Who would have thought.
Then you started to get real nice to him. That moment when you tucked that piece of loose hair behind his ear he always remembered to keep a loose strand of hair out. He wanted you to do it over and over again. Have your fingertips lightly graze his face and feel how warm you were against his cold skin. You noticed the effect it had on him and used it to your advantage to be closer to him.
He liked, no, loved when you praised him for his skills. It made him feel superior to everyone, including his brothers. Cause he should be superior to them as he was the grandmaster.
Bi-Han was disgusted by the people in his clan when they would make lewd comments about you. Comments about your chest, your hips, your thighs, your everything. Or when they criticize you for being too nice or too much of a goody two shoes. He didn’t know what came over him but he would end up nearly beating them to death during training. They’d act surprised that their grandmaster would do such a thing, nearly crippling some of his best fighters. But when it comes to you it doesn’t matter. He has to protect your honor. He has to protect you from the filthy eyes of lowlifes. You need his protection.
But your innocence. That was quite a shock to him.
Never had a kiss? Not even on the cheek? Well, he fixed that right up. When you confessed to him that you never gotten a kiss from a man he felt it was his duty to fix that. It’s an honor to be kissed by the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. Even a kiss on the cheek sent you into a spiral. His lips barely touched you! Yet you reacted as if you two had a five minute make out session. Your mouth was shut tight and you placed your forehead on his arm to help cool you down. Bi-Han couldn’t help it, he had a small smirk on his face which he hid from you. He could only imagine how you would have reacted if he did it on the lips.
But he might never know. Because he messed up by being a traitor. Some days he feels like he did the right thing by gaining the Lin Kuei’s freedom. While others he feels anger because he can’t be near you.
When he heard that you were helping the Shirai Ryu he went mad. Anything in his sight was targeted. Spikes made of ice littered the land. Their jagged and cold form matched how he felt in his heart.
Now who will protect you from the filthy pest of the world. Bi-Han doesn’t know where you are. The Shirai Ryu are too good at hiding and that makes them cowards. Someone could take your innocence and what then. His brothers don’t care about you like Bi-Han cares about you. You’re only safe in his arms and in his sight. You must never be left alone with anybody. Filthy men putting their hands on you, that thought alone makes him furious.
You were his light in a gloomy world. Even if you were friends with Lord Liu Kang he saw you as your own person. A victim to Liu Kang who probably has you wrapped around his fingers. You need to be free just like him. Not following orders like you are now. You must be so depressed without him.
In a way you are as you still struggle to accept the situation. You’re no victim however. Even though Liu Kang said you were done with your task a while ago you still continue out of the kindness of your heart. It’s the right thing to do. But you will continue and mourn what could have been.
If only he kept you in mind when Shang Tsung made that horrible offer. None of this would have happened. This shouldn’t have happened.
You’re only left with sadness. You lost someone you were willing to love and change. You were so close to warming Bi-Han’s heart. You warmed it enough that he feels regret for what he has done. But he can’t turn back now. What’s done is done. Maybe in another timeline he was never a traitor. In another timeline you two are together where he can protect you and love you for who you are.
After notes: If I have not satisfied your needs you can force me to eat British Chinese food. Or you can yell at me either one goes, you can even tell me to redo it all. A little bit of a warning I might be silent for one or two days just cause of classes. Literally have to make a 6-8 minute speech about contraceptives in the span of two days. So either it will be backpocket fics, reblogs (I have faith in the 🍊), or nothing. You’ll know when you’ll know. Adiós!

Bi-Han x B!F Wife Reader
TRAINING
Summary: Bi-han was having the clan train, Kuai Liang monitoring it and Y/N wanted to join. But one of the Lin Kuei’s went a bit to far, and Bi-han was not accepting that.
Tags: Fluff/protect, slight drama, over-protective
A/N: Bi-han does not play about his woman
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
You just had finish treating yourself of earthrealms female activities, Sonya took you for a girls out to explore earth.
With a hard push to have Bi-han approve of you going, so you had body guards as if you couldn’t defend yourself… well to a certain extent.
Y/N bid her friend Sonya farewell, as you were headed to back to your room to show it off to your husband. You passed where the Lin Kuei was training.
Y/N saw her brother-In-law Kuai Liang, he was showing his clan new skills. You watched standing between the threshold.
“What are you doing woman?” A cold tone came from behind her. There was only one man that talked with such coldness.
“Beloved! Ooh look!” You ran up hugging his arm, and putting your hand in his face.
“You like my nails, there blue and light blue. I know how much you love it when I wear your color. Ooh, and I let my braids out!”
Y/N stepped back not to far shaking her big fluffy curly Afro. It was literally touching your shoulders. He left your hand kissing the back of your palm.
“It is Beautiful, I am pleased to know you enjoyed yourself.” Bi-han gave a small smile, that was quickly gone as he entered the training spot.
Of course you followed behind, as you love watching the training sessions and little spar.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
As the training was continuing, you heard Kuai Liang ask anyone if they would like to spar with one of the Lin Kuei warriors, who went by the name “Lu Min”(A/N: don’t judge me about the name lol). Who was there most skilled warrior
“I can spar with them!” Y/N volunteered herself happily. Kuai Liang gave you a shocked expression, then turned to his brother. Who only waved his hand giving his approval.
You stood up and put your hair into two big puffs. “It is an honor to be able to spar with the grand mistress herself.” Lu Min bowed.
“Likewise.” You returned the gesture. You got into a fighting stance. You were lucky you didn’t have to change. You had a comfortable attire on, that was suitable for fighting.
As you both spar, you earned a couple impressed reactions.
You’ve been doing some training of your own and sometimes practice with your husband.
But you wanted to show off something you learn, which was a double aerial kick before you kicked him down.
“A little something ya girl learned on her own.” You noticed an impressed grin from Bi-han. He expected nothing less from you, as he does not marry weak women.
“We’re not finish yet.” Lu Min said a bit more agitated. You noticed but brushed it off.
He charged at you, but you blocked his punch, then he swepped his leg under her making her fall.
Before Y/N could block, he punched her hard in her chest. Knocking the wind out of you, you grunted slightly.
Trying to get up, then he kicked you hard against the wall and punched you dead in your face, but used your hands to protect it slightly, which didn’t do much. Earning a whimper out of you, your face bruised.
Before it could continue, Kuai Liang ended the fight. Standing between you both, Y/N thanked the gods for the intervention. Because she be damned if she tapped out.
Not wanting to seem weak, but was boy fighting as if it was a real Mortal Kombat. The pain was getting to you, and he just fucked up the nails you just got did.
You felt the aura of the room changed, Bi-han kneeled in front of you. Gripping your face and looking at your wounds
{You wondered to yourself on when you had got on the ground}
“You are bruised but not broken. We will end this little sparring session.”
You could tell Bi-han was pissed that one of his men went overboard, “I-It’s fine Bi-han, I was just caught off guard I’m alright babe… Well, except my nails.” You tried to play off jokingly, but he was in no joking mood.
Bi-han called one of the medics and asked them to tend to your wounds in your shared room with Bi-han.
“You will finish your sparring lesson with me.” Bi-han pointed at Lu Min, who was already apologizing and begging for mercy.
You were taken away before you could see an outcome
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
You were laying in the bed, leaning against the headboard. Looking at what was your newly blue and light blue nails.
Fingers bandaged, some broke off fully(which hurt like a bitch) and others half broken but still sore as it was new.
Then you heard Bi-han entered the room, he sank the bed as sat on the edge. Pulling your hands to his lips kissing it.
“You didn’t kill the poor boy did you?” Y/N asked worryingly, you didn’t want to get anyone killed.
“Why does it matter.” Bi-han bluntly responded settling in the bed and pulling you close to him.
“Bi-hannnnn.” You whined, Bi-han was kissing your neck then bruises.
“He’s lucky Kuai Liang was there.” Bi-han, would have killed him if it weren’t for his brother holding him back. As he was already taught a lesson and made as an example to the others if they ever felt like being bold. How dare anyone ruin his wife’s beautiful face.
Y/N was alright with that response, at least he was alive. You gave him a sweet kiss on the lips before confirming to him that you’re alright and you will live and heal… except your nails.
“I’m sad about my nails though, they were so cute and nice… After all that money I spent on it.” You pouted.
“Money is no issue my dear wife, you can go again tomorrow.” Bi-han told you, giving you a smile. Your the only person he shows this too.
“THAT MEANS YOUR TAKING ME DADDY!?” You sat up excitedly. Bi-han huffed with a smirk before getting out the bed and heading to wash himself up.
“I never said that, it means you can find your own way again.” Bi-han told you before disappearing in the bathroom.
“BI-HANNNNNNN!” You whined loudly.
Tumblr media
A/N: These are what your nails looked like, also hoped you enjoyed this story as well

the love we have is infinite.
in which i subscorp tf outta that ending, spoilers. obviously.
As I watched Harumi and Hanzo reunite, I felt something in my chest crack.
A black hole opened up, threatening to swallow me whole. Not jealousy or rage. Our marriage had been a business arrangement between two families. Wanting to start my own clan, but having none of the means of doing so. I wasn't going to ask Bi-Han, he thought it stupid to leave the Lin Kuei. A decision that put a wall between us, but I'd hope soon that we'd reconcile. Until then, I was on my own. Until Raiden had said something interesting.
You could always do it like the olden days – marrying for money.
When the two of us glanced at each other, it was sealed.
Harumi had been thrilled to help, especially after I had told her that she wouldn't just be my wife. She would also be considered a Grandmaster, that I would teach her in my ways, able to defend and teach our clan as well.
So I knew it hadn't been jealousy or rage. No.
It was longing.
My hand began to quiver and I quickly grasped it with the other. The black hole gave away to the overwhelming desire to touch this man. To hold. To kiss. I swallowed, hard.
Hanzo, who traveled timelines to reunite with the woman he loves. Hanzo, who burned just as bright as the sun. A light in the darkness. My darkness. I bit my cheek, dread chasing away desire.
I realized, in a cruel twist of fate, is that I am an impostor. A false Scorpion until the real one returned.
I swallowed the lump in my throat.
Somehow, that was all I've ever been. Ostracized from my clan the moment I manifested fire instead of ice. Having to prove myself over and over again that I was a devout member of the Lin Kuei. That I would follow my brother to the ends of the earth to protect him when he became Grandmaster. It had all been for nothing.
I could never be allowed to want something as bright as Hanzo.
-z-
I withdrew.
I barricaded myself in the newly constructed walls of my clan. Recruitment had begun a day after the ceremony, throwing myself into it. Desperately trying to fill the silence that haunted me. It threatened to consume me and sometimes, I wished to give in. To put down my rope dart and disappear into the woods. Earthrealm had a Scorpion again, and I knew he was better than I.
I saw nothing of Harumi or Hanzo since the night of the ceremony, when the two lovers reunited. I was thankful because I would bask in the sun that was Hanzo like a flower and it wouldn't have been fair to them. They deserved to have their family back, after everything, and my shadows would eclipse them.
It didn't stop the longing in my chest from blossoming though.
“-ai? Kuai?” I heard a voice ask and I dropped the scroll I had been holding. “Hey, you okay?”
Tomas entered my line of vision and I nodded. “Yeah, just...trapped in my head.”
He crossed his arms. “Oh, really? Trapped in your head and in these walls? You trying to avoid something?”
I hated how perceptive he was. “No, I'm not.”
“Sure.” He paused. “Is it Bi-Han?”
I shook my head. “No, radio silence from my brother. Not surprising. We had choice words for each other when I left.”
It was true. Bi-Han didn't take the news well. I think he wasn't ready for me to leave the proverbial nest. In the Lin Kuei, he would have watched out for me, taken care of me. He was already throwing away tradition by making me and Tomas his second in commands. A fire user and someone not born into the Lin Kuei? It was threatening to split his clan in two, which he refused to see. In order to prevent that from happening, I had to leave. Tomas wanted to join me, but I forced him to stay. He was now playing emissary for an unwilling Bi-Han.
A few choice words had been said – ungrateful, stubborn, idiotic, idealistic, wrong – and I stormed out of the Lin Kuei, leaving everything I knew and had behind. Raiden took me in, for the time being, beholden for all the training I had given him. One thing lead to another and now I was hiding from one of my best friends because I was in love with her real husband.
“Kuai, you look like you're going to throw up.”
I felt like I was going to throw up.
“I'm fine,” I ground out. “Did you talk to Madame Bo?”
“Yeah, she said she'll keep an eye out. If there's anyone down on their luck or needing a place to go, said she'll send them our way.”
I nodded. “Good.”
He stared at me for another moment. “Are you sure you're okay?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I'm okay.”
I just had to keep saying it until I believed it.
-z-
Madame Bo came through, as she said. She always kept her word. Just who walked through the gate surprised me. Clad in his usual yellow armor, Hanzo stood before me. Willing my throat not to dry, I bowed to him.
“Hanzo, what do I owe the pleasure?” I asked.
“Harumi had said you started your own clan and then Madame Bo said anyone needing a place to go was welcome here,” He said, looking over the gardens. There was a warmth in his brown eyes as he took everything in. My hand twitched, itching to reach out and touch him. I also began to worry that he would hate it. To make him proud of my clan was something I didn't know I wanted, but would devastate me if I didn't have.
“Do you have a name?” He asked and I jumped.
“Sorry, uh...I do. An old Lin Kuei ally before they were wiped out centuries ago,” I replied, walking over to him. I had been hoping it would show Bi-Han that I wasn't his enemy. That I wanted to stay by his side forever. I just couldn't do it in the Lin Kuei.
“And it is?”
“Shirai Ryu.”
He was silent for a moment before, “Allies, huh?”
A flicker of an emotion spread across his face, but before I could ascertain what it had been, it was gone. He breathed out a chuckle, a small smile on his lips. I surprised to find it was sorrowful and I reached for him gently, soothingly. I could be his friend, I told myself. I wanted to be his friend, if nothing else. My hand was barely on his arm before he recoiled from me. My heart stopped.
I ripped my hand away like I had been burned, grasping it with my other hand. It was irresponsible. Hanzo had the love of his life. He didn't want me, even as a friend. As if anyone would ever want a fake. An impostor. Especially when the real thing was right in front of me. It clicked. I had wonder why when I chose the name melancholy rushed through my veins. His face said it all.
“It was yours, wasn't it?”
He said nothing.
“I”m sorry,” I whimpered. Whimpered, like a baby and everything the Lin Kuei had spat at me rushed back. Poor little Kuai Liang. Too blind to see when no one wanted you. Not anymore.
I could barely bite back the tears when I said, “...you can have it back.”
Hanzo turned to me, brown eyes wide. Surprise. I swallowed hard. I knew that look and he barely had his mouth open before I was gone in a whirlwind of fire and embers.
I don't know if I could have handled him voicing his rejection thanks.
-z-
The rain was beating hard against the roof of the small cottage that I called my own. It had been days now, no sign of letting up. I didn't care. The weather was fitting.
Watching it on my small porch, the world around me drifted away. There was no Lin Kuei or Shirai Ryu. No tournaments waiting to kill you. No disappointment or hurt. I was at peace here and there was nothing that could drag me away.
I figured Raiden had gotten word from Harumi and sent Tomas after me. He pounded at my door, demanding an explanation of why Hanzo Hasashi was saying I had given him the Shirai Ryu, I hadn't answered. I was still licking my emotional wounds. Trying to bury any feelings I had of the man whose moniker I bore. The one I'd stolen. Trying to explain that one to Tomas would have just opened the wound again.
That had been days ago and Tomas hadn't been back. I supposed they were getting on without me. Hanzo would take his place as Grandmaster and Harumi would be at his side. He would teach her everything I would have and more.
And when the dust had settled, and I was able to leave, I would go back with my tail between my legs and ask to join the Shirai Ryu. Hopefully, they'd have me. If not, I would be right back here until the end of my days. I'd made peace with that.
I heard shuffling behind me and sighed, figured Tomas had come to convince me to go back. I opened my mouth to ask him to leave when I heard a voice say, ““You're a hard man to find.” It nearly send me into the ceiling. Whipping around, I stared at the man standing behind me. Hanzo.
“Han- I mean, Grandmaster, what are you doing here?” I asked.
He didn't answer, just looked over me with concerned brown eyes. “You're not wearing yellow.”
Yellow was the color I chose for Scorpion. It was never mine. The colourless dark robes I now bore were fitting for me. Without a clan, without a purpose. I chuckled, humorlessly. “Decided to...change my wardrobe, I suppose.”
“I see. Also, I came to see how you were doing. Raiden and your other friend, Smoke? They're worried about you.”
“Kind of figured. Tomas was here a few days ago.”
“And you didn't talk to him?”
I couldn't. “No.”
“No?”
“What do you want, Grandmaster Hasashi?”
His mouth turned down into a frown. Anger flashed in his eyes. “That's not my title. There are two Grandmasters of the Shirai Ryu now and I am not one of them.”
I scoffed. “Yes, you are. You and Harumi.”
“No. It's you, Kuai Liang.”
I swallowed. Hard. The lump in my throat that formed would not go away. “Don't do this.”
“What?” Confusion swept across his face.
I wanted to cry. “I gave everything back to you and you're still here.”
“Gave everything back?” He stepped back like he'd been slapped. “Kuai Liang...”
“The mantle, the clan, your wife. You have it back.” I wrapped my arms around myself. “Please, just go.”
Silence wafted between us and I fully expected him to leave. I needed him to leave. Being this close to him hurt. The reminder hurt. I shut my eyes tight, turning from him.
“No.”
“Hanzo...please.” You're hurting me. Please.
“I don't want it back! Especially if you're not there!”
My eyes shot open. I gasped. I misheard; I know I did. “W-what?”
He stepped toward me gently. “For every instance that Harumi was alive in a timeline, you weren't. Every time I saved her, I sacrificed you. I couldn't have both of you. So imagine my surprise when I got to this timeline. You were both alive...but married to each other.” He took another step forward. “At first I was angry, too late again. I had lost you both again. Until, you both saw me and suddenly I had her back and you were still alive. But then you started to pull away and I was losing you all over again.“
He swallowed, eyes boring into mine. “I went to the gardens to join you, not to lead you.”
“To join us? Why?”
He shook his head. “Isn't it obvious?”
“No...and you're not making any sense.”
“Then let me be clearer.”
Gripping my robe, he crashed our lips together and the undignified squeak that escaped me left me blushing. Kissing him back, though, was like muscle memory. It was something that I had done one hundred times, despite it being the first. My hands traveled up his arms, shoulders before cupping his chin in mine. The heat between us was all consuming and I would let it if I could. Which is why I had to push him away.
“What are you doing?” I hissed and he blinked at me. “You have a wife!”
“She knows. About us. I told her.”
My blood froze. Harumi knew. Harumi knew her husband loved me and probably knew I felt the same. I wished I'd let the fire consume me. My face heated with shame. I tried to blink back the tears but it was no use. Hanzo sighed, not unkind before he cupped my jaw, brushing the tears away.
“Kuai...no.” He sighed. “Harumi has said she loves me too, and knows that how deep that love can be. I searched timelines for her, but your death devastated me every time. There is no doubt that I love you just as much as her.”
I sniffled. “Even though I'm your shadow?”
He chuckled. “You never were my shadow. You are my equal. You both are my heart.”
I sobbed, gripping him tight as he pressed his lips to mine again.
-z-
“Any word from Han?” Tomas asked.
“No, but some Lin Kuei messengers are coming here later. I think he's reaching out.”
“Good. I'm getting tired of being YOUR messenger.”
“You're not my messenger.”
“Keep telling yourself that.”
I nudged him with my elbow and he made a face at me. As I started towards the training ground, he evaporated into smoke. I shook my head.
I expected the training grounds to be full of the sounds of fighting, but it was oddly quiet for the mid-afternoon. Finding Harumi and Hanzo had been easy. They were seated in the middle of the grounds, both deep in concentration, a game of Go between them. Harumi was winning, if the furrow between Hanzo's brows was anything to go by. I chuckled, taking my place between them.
“Are you two done with your training then?” I asked, chuckling.
“We are. Hanzo asked if I'd ever played Go. I said a little. He thought it was going to be easy. As you can see, it's not.”
Hanzo shot me a glare as I laughed. “You're enjoying this.”
“Lets just say...I am.” While his eyes were on me, Harumi finished him off. She smiled, smugly, and I could not contain my laughter.
Hanzo looked at the board, then between us. “You played me, didn't you?”
“It wouldn't be the first time.”
“I'm your husband.”
“Should have expected it then, dear.”
“Come on, you two. I'm starving and I'd like to eat before the messengers get here.”
“What do we want then?”
“Mmm...I think the winner should choose.” I held out my hands for both of them, helping them stand.
“What an excellent idea, Kuai,” Harumi said, just as Hanzo replied, “Don't encourage her.”
I laughed as we walked back inside. None of us let go of our hands.

I read your really good au where Kuai Liang is trans and Frost’s biological father. And I love that idea so much! And all the details within it. I so desperately want to see them reunited and honestly your writing is just incredible thank you so much!
eeeeee I'm so glad you liked it!
I haven't figured out the reunion yet, but I'll give you the scene after Frost's birth bc it;s stuck in my head (and kinda what started this whole thing)
Kuai Liang, pushing baby Frost into Hanzo's arms: You have to take her
Hanzo: What? no, I-
Kuai Liang: She isn't safe with me, the Lin Kuei are coming and I will not risk her. You have to take her and hide her, keep her safe. Promise me, Hanzo
Hanzo: Kuai Liang-
Kuai Liang: Promise me!
Hanzo:.....
Hanzo: No. We're not doing this, look at her
Kuai Liang, holding back tears: do not make this harder for me than it is
Hanzo: I am a stranger to her. Everyone in this whole world is a stranger to her, except you.
Kuai Liang takes a deep, shuddering breath as he turns to stare at his sleeping daughter
Hanzo: You are the only thing in the world that she recognizes right now, the only thing that makes any sense. Everything else is new and terrifying, but you? You are her father, You carried her with you for nine months and brought her into this world through sheer force of will alone.
Hanzo: There is nowhere in this world that is safer for her than in your arms
Kuai Liang: And when the Lin Kuei catch us? When they take us back to that temple and torture us? I can't keep her safe then
Hanzo: If it comes to that, I swear to you on the memory of my wife and son that I will take Nuan somewhere safe and defender her with my life but we aren't there yet. Don't give up before the fight has even begun.
Hanzo gently presses baby Frost back into Kuai Liang's arms, tears finally slipping down the cryomancer's cheeks as he presses his forehead against hers.
Kuai Liang: I can't let them take her, not ever
Hanzo, reaching over to squeeze Kuai Liang's shoulder reassuringly: That won't happen, we won't let that happen
lemme know if y'all want more!

Au-Idea: Izumi was in Zaofu with Lin and is the one, who catches Lin after she collapsed in the fight, then she lovingly hands her over to the Krew, so she can kick Su in the ass 😊😠
YEAH
Izumi catches her and says something like "it's ok, dear, you need to rest now" and she softly takes her and asks the Krew to take her somewhere safe (and somewhere where if she woke up, she wouldn't see Izumi and Su fighting)
then she turns to Su with those killer eyes she got from her mother and starts arguing with her, only to get Su throwing her a rock, Izumi defends herself and doesn't tries to attack Su, but reduce her and don't let her fight
at the end Izumi wins and leaves to check on her wife

Sinners and Saints (Sihtric x reader)
Summary: One day you stumble upon your childhood friend, Osferth, whom you have not seen in years. Yet the more time you spend with him, the more you find yourself drawn to his companion, Sihtric….and the butterflies his dark eyes give you.
This is my contribution to @emilyhufflepufftlk 100 followers challenge! Congratulations again! I’m so happy for you!
My prompt was - "Love doesn't discriminate, between the sinners and the saints." - Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton (in bold within the story)
Words: 5500
Warnings: A couple of swear words, fluff, my poor attempts at humor, Osferth being a good bro.

"...so there she was, aye, and next thing I know, she flips 'er dress up and I see the most perfect set of…."
"I'm going to be sick." Osferth mumbled to himself, trying to block out Finan's retelling of his prior night. To the laughter of his companions, he started to push away from the outdoor table at the alehouse. He was no virgin anymore, Finan and Uhtred had seen to that, but he still felt squeamish when listening to their stories of recent conquests. His mother's voice whispered in the back of his mind, things she had told him before her passing, about respect and love. Plus, he could not help but think that this idea of conquests, of women's worth derived from what pleasure a man could take from their bodies, was what brought bastards into this world….like him.
"Alright, Finan, we get it. You saw the arse of a goat and couldn't help yourself." Uhtred teased, slinging an arm around Osferth so he could not escape them- most likely to find a church and pray for their souls.
"Oi, lord! Ya know that was one time!" Finan feigned mock-outrage, making Uhtred and Sihtric laugh.
Osferth put a hand over his eyes as if that would somehow block the image from his mind. Something he desperately did not want there.
"How much longer are we here, lord?" Sihtric asked, changing the subject, while twirling a dagger between his hands fluidly.
Although Osferth would never admit it aloud, and God forgive him, it was hard not to be jealous of how easily his companions handled their weapons like they had been born with weapons in hand. They continued to tell him it was practice. Recently though, he decided it was a gift that he clearly did not have.
"Until I feel satisfied with the training of Lord Godwin's fyrd and his defenses." Uhtred stated indifferently, as if it was something he had to repeat to himself often.
"Ya think King Alfred knew how much of a horse's arse Lord Godwin is?"
Uhtred glanced up, a tiny smirk on his lips. "Probably."
"But he knew you were the man for the job." Osferth commented. Not necessarily to defend his father but to hopefully bolster Uhtred's confidence. "The men respect you, even if their lord fails to acknowledge his own respect."
"The baby monk is right." Finan said. "What else needs to be done for the town?"
Uhtred and Finan began discussing ideas and strategies, Sihtric adding an occasional comment but mostly just listening.
Osferth found his attention wandering, since this was an area outside of his expertise. His gaze drifted to the town and its residents who moved about to complete their duties under the midday sun. Their group had only been in this large town for two days and already Osferth was keen to return to Coccham.
From amidst the crowd, a familiar face caught his attention. The world tilted off its axis as his entire body went rigid, all his focus zeroed in on her. His heart hammered in his chest and the air whooshed from his lungs painfully.
"Y/n?" He muttered to himself, disbelief and shock clearly painted in his tone and on his face.
 "Baby monk, ya alright?"
Finan's words did even register, so consumed by the ghost before him. Rapidly, he slid off the bench, almost losing his footing when he went to stand, but pressed on, hurrying towards her.
"Y/n!" He called, an almost desperate tone in his yell.
When she did not turn around, he shouted louder. "Y/N!"
That time she paused, then slowly turned to find him standing still amongst those walking around him, a solid rock in a stream of people. He held his breath as he intently watched her expression, suddenly worried seeing him would not be as meaningful as he hoped. He could see her utter his name silently, eyes wide. Then in the next moment, she dropped the basket on her hip and ran towards him. He opened his arms just in time for her to collide with him, and with her embrace, a painful wave of nostalgia and guilt crashed over him with the strength of a tempest.
"It's really you." She finally whispered, peering at him in awe.
"Hi." He smiled, his own shock clouding his mind from forming coherent sentences.
Then to his surprise, she reared back and punched him in the arm.
"Ouch! What was that for?" He whined, rubbing the offended limb.
Throwing her hands in the air, they landed on her hips as her voice rose in anger. "For disappearing in the middle of the night without telling me!"
 "I did tell you."
"That you were THINKING about leaving, not that you WERE leaving!" She reared back and punched him in the arm again, ignoring his pained cry as she continued to berate him. "I spent an entire day running around the monastery trying to find you only for Father Harold to finally pull me aside and tell me you left for Wincheaster."
And there was the heaping of guilt he knew he deserved. "I'm sorry….I just….I just knew if I didn't leave that night, then I never would."
Her face softened at his quiet admission, understanding passing in her eyes. "I know. I wasn't truly surprised…. Just wish you'd have told me before."
 "I'm sorry."
She sighed, all anger and frustration disappearing, much to his relief. She was a force to be reckoned with when truly in her fury. "So, what are you doing here?"
"Ah, traveled here with the Lord Uhtred to assist Lord Godwin in his defenses….or something."
 "Uhtred? That Uhtred?"
He smiled at her, catching the reverence in her tone. "That very one."
"How did you find him? How did you join him? Wait! Are you a warrior now? We have a lot to talk about and you better get started." There went the hands on her hips again, making his smile widen at the image. Even as a young girl, when her hands were on her hips, you knew she meant business.
"Would you like to meet him first?"
A shy look passed over her face that he was unused to seeing. "I'm…. I'm not presentable to meet a lord."
He scanned her, noting the dried mud on the hem of her dress and shoes, the small smear of what looked like flour on her left temple. What he noticed most was how the years had made her even more beautiful. She had always been a pretty girl but now, she truly looked like a beautiful woman. A fact he was unsure of how to feel about.
He chuckled lightly after a moment. "Well, you certainly smell better than Lord Uhtred so I think it's fine."
That caused her to tip her head back and laugh loudly, the desired effect of his comment. She gathered up her basket and walked next to Osferth, back to the table where his companions were. It was impossible to ignore their curious stares as they approached.
"Lord Uhtred, may I introduce y/n. Y/n, this is Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg." Osferth said, standing next to her at the end of the table.
Uhtred nodded graciously, clearly wondering why this woman mattered and why Osferth was introducing her.
"Oh, it's an honor to meet you!" Y/n gushed, a bright smile on her face. "Uncle Leofric told us so much about you, but I never thought I'd ever meet you in person."
"Leofric?" That caught his lord's attention, his gaze narrowing and eyeing her with renewed interest. "How did you know that turd?"
"When he came to visit Osferth, he'd tell us stories."
"Ah….all exaggerated, of course." Uhtred said with a cocky smirk.
"Wait. I think we're missin' the most important thing here." Finan leaned forward, dark eyes bouncing between Osferth and her, as he pointed a finger at them, hand still wrapped around his cup. "Ya said 'Uncle Leofric'....are ya related to Osferth?"
Osferth answered quickly. "No, her family owned the farm next to the monastery, so we grew up together." Then he furrowed his brows as a thought hit him. He had been so amazed to see his childhood best friend (only friend really) that he had not realized that she should be back at the farm and not in this town. "Wait, y/n, why are you here and not at the farm?"
Her face crumpled for a brief second before she was able to mask it into a neutral expression. She shrugged casually, but he could read the subtle tension in the action. "We lost the farm, so mother and I came here to look for work."
"Ah." There were so many things he wanted to ask but could tell now was not the right time. If she lived here, he would have plenty of time to hear the full story later. Instead he decided to change the subject. "So, you know Lord Uhtred, the others are Finan and Sihtric…. And Sihtric is also a bastard." He added as an afterthought.
That made her face light up as she turned to look at the Dane. "Hey, another bastard! We really need to start a club. We can all rant about how awful our fathers are."
"You're a bastard?" Uhtred asked, shock evident in his voice.
"Yes, my lord. My mother was a servant for a lord. Got pregnant. The lord's wife did not like that so sent my pregnant mother back to her family. Certainly, it was our Lord's Will because how else would I have been able to grow up with Osferth?" She asked, patting him on the cheek affectionately. He blushed and swatted her hand away, much to the other's amusement.
"I reckon you have quite a few amusin' stories of growin' up with Osferth, eh?" Finan smirked.
"I might….but I don't share secrets for free." She matched his smirk with her own crooked smile.
He slapped his hand on the table. "I'll owe ya a drink! I need to 'ear this."
"No….oh no, no, no." Osferth said but knew it was a lost cause before he even tried to deter them. The rest were already deciding when and where to meet that night. "Lord help me."
"It's not that bad." She teased, bumping his arm with hers. "The worst one is when we went streaking naked through the monastery."
Osferth felt his face heat up like the flames of hell itself as everyone laughed. "It was your idea."
"Yeah, yeah, so you like to remind me." She smiled fondly. "Now, if I don't get back home, my mother is going to think I've run off with some man or I've been kidnapped. Either way, she will raise the fyrd herself to find me. I will see you all tonight."
The others said their goodbyes but before she could step too far away, Osferth gently touched her arm, halting her movement.
"Y/n….I'm….I'm glad our paths have crossed once again."
She pulled him into a tight embrace. "I am too, Osferth. I've missed you." With that, she turned and walked away with her basket still on her hip; but not without glancing over her shoulder at the group before disappearing around some buildings.
Once out of sight, Osferth sighed and turned back to his companions, only to see them all still staring intently in the direction she disappeared.
"No….y/n is off-limits to you fornicators." He stated firmly, well as firmly as he could be.
"She's very pretty…." Uhtred declared, a playful grin on his face.
"Lord, no. All of you, keep your hands off of her."
"Or what?" Finan chuckled, eyes alight with mischief. "You'll fight us, baby monk?"
 "I will if I must."
"Alright. Her dignity won't be tarnished." Uhtred lifted his cup in Osferth's direction. "Your reputation might be tonight depending on what stories she shares."
Osferth groaned, sitting back down next to his lord. "I'm going to need a lot of ale."
"That can certainly be arranged!" Finan laughed, jovial once more.
As discussion started back up again, they all missed the silent, longing glance Sihtric snuck one last time in the direction she walked away….
 *****
Over the next several weeks Lord Uhtred helped increase the defenses of the town and instructed the guards and fyrd how to better defend against the Danes.
During those weeks, you found yourself frequently spending time with Osferth and his companions. First it started off with meeting them in the evenings for ale, laughter and good company. Within days, it became almost expected for one of them to purposefully seek you out. Most of the time it was Osferth and Sihtric coming to join you in whatever your tasks for the day because they were bored or unwanted in meetings. It was not difficult to tell that although they were certainly welcomed members of Uhtred's group, not everyone else saw them in such a positive light.
So the three of you often passed the hours away together, waiting until evening to rejoin Uhtred and Finan at the alehouse. Their presence became such a regular occurrence that your mother practically adopted them, they even had their assigned seats at your small kitchen table for meals. Somehow, they seamlessly slipped into your daily life in a way that seemed like they were meant to be there this whole time.
Even at the alehouse in the evenings, you usually found yourself nestled between Osferth and Sihtric on the bench. A place you certainly found yourself enjoying more and more….especially next to the Dane.
Over the weeks, there was something growing between you and the Dane. It gradually revealed itself with each passing day, growing like the roots of an oak tree. It was through the borderline flirtatious comments that you teased each other with. It was in the subtle touches that caused butterflies in your stomach to dance, from your fingers barely gracing each other when passing something, to the way you leaned your head on his shoulder when your eyelids threatened to close, to the way your thighs would touch under the table and away from view of the others. It was in the lingering looks when your gazes locked and you swore you never wanted to look away. It was in the consistency of being next to one another whenever you could, either sitting at a table or just walking down the street, almost like your bodies were magnetized to one another's.
Plus the more you talked to Sihtric, the more you desired to know about him. For he was like no other man you had ever met.
Almost a fortnight after you reunited with Osferth, there was one particular evening after staying out far too late with the four men and drinking a bit too much, Sihtric graciously offered to walk you back home. You knew propriety demanded Osferth should be the one to escort you but he was already passed out, head on the table and snores emitting from his mouth. Giggling at your childhood friend, you accepted Sihtric's offer and the two of you easily fell into step.
On the walk you learned more about his past, about going up in Dunholm and his cruel father. You had heard bits and pieces while with Osferth and the others. Maybe it was under the cover of darkness, maybe it was the extra ale flowing through both of your blood, but he confessed secrets to you he had never told another besides his mother. When you reached your home, before he could slip away, you clutched his arm and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. After, you bid him goodnight and slipped inside your humble home.
After that night, he always walked you home, sometimes alone and sometimes one of the others would join. But when it was just you two, when you were alone, you would bid him a goodnight with a kiss on the cheek or he would kiss your hand, locking eyes with you in a way that made a fire stir in your belly and your core clench.
There was definitely something between the two of you, but neither seemed able to verbalize it or take the next step.
 *****
"So, what is going on between you and Cedric?"
You turned your head to look at Osferth, who laid on the grass next to you, soaking in the heat of the early afternoon sun. "What?"
"You know….that blacksmith. The one you were talking to the other day."
"Oh." The memory hit you. You had stopped by to drop off your mother's damaged cooking pot for Cedric to attempt in fixing, although you personally thought it was a helpless cause. The dent in it was significant, but he offered to see what he could do. As you dropped it off at his workshop, the two of you began discussing an approaching saint's day and the celebration that would occur with it.
Several minutes later, you heard your name called and looked over to see Osferth and Sihtric walking towards you. You bid Cedric a farewell, promising to stop by the next day to come pick up the pot. After receiving his promise to try his best at fixing it, you headed off towards the stables with your fellow bastards. At the time, you had not thought the encounter significant but with it happening two days ago and Osferth now bringing it up, you wondered how long he had been ruminating on it.
Finally, you simply said, "he's a good man, and has been kind to my mother and I since we arrived here."
"Is he….pursuing you?" Osferth turned his head to scrutinize you, his lips pursed slightly as if concerned about your answer.
You openly laughed at the notion. "No, that's silly. He is just a kind man."
If anything, you had to fend off flirtatious advancements from some of the young men that worked under Cedric. Those same young men quickly learned to keep their eyes on their work and mouths shut. When one openly called out to you, and before you could offer a sharp retort, Cedric threw a hammer at him from across the shop. He bellowed that he did not allow heathens to work for him and if they chose to act godless then they needed to find a new place of work. Their blatant interest diminished after that and Cedric made a point to be the only one that conversed with you if you came to the shop. Although he was easily ten years your senior, you found him a likeable man with a quick wit and sarcastic comments that occasionally left you in stitches.
The idea of him pursuing you was an amusing idea. He was still a bachelor, never having married, claiming that his work and apprentices kept him far too busy for much else.
Your answer appeared to satisfy Osferth. A thoughtful look crossed his face and he opened his mouth as if to speak, but immediately slowly closed it and turned his head back to stare at the blue sky.
A stillness settled after your answer, only interrupted by the frequent bird song and the wind through the tall grass. You closed your eyes, enjoying the sun's warmth and just lying around relaxing on the hill outside of the town, away from the hustle and bustle and chores that demanded your attention.
"He was watching you like a man who wants a woman." Sihtric stated after a couple minutes of peaceful silence.
Startled by his sour tone, you shifted up to look over at the Dane. He sat on the other side of Osferth, one leg propped up and an arm casually slung over it, but his gaze was focused straight ahead, staring off into the distance. Now that you thought about it, over the past two days Sihtric had become more reserved and sullen than you had ever seen. Even his companions commented on it a few times to which he would shrug his shoulders or make an excuse and walk away. You had thought he just missed Coccham, the group having been away for so long, or something happened that made him introspective. It had also not escaped your notice how the prior closeness between you two had halted. Now you wondered if there was something more to his demeanor.
"Well, that is most unfortunate for him since I am not interested in him."
"Does your mother not want you to marry?" Osferth asked, his voice deceptively neutral.
Sighing, you leaned back on your hands. Eventually you knew Osferth would bring up the topic, he was your friend after all and you were certainly of marriageable age. Actually far too old to not be married by some people's standards, but you ignored them. "She does but she has told me that she will not force it upon me. She said I should make my own choice….that if I am able, I should choose love."
You knew your mother offered you that choice in hopes your life would turn out differently than her own.
"But if Cedric is a good, kind man….could you not love him….or someone like him?" Osferth pressed.
"Perhaps. There are plenty of men I have seen who the church would call a 'good' man but are cruel in their own home, and there are many men who are calloused but it's obvious they love their wife and children. My love doesn't discriminate, between the sinners and the saints. I would rather choose a man whom I know loves and cares for me than a man I know is 'good' but carries no love in his heart." You paused, the candid confession rolling off your tongue before you realized it. Sighing, you ran a hand over your hair before quietly saying. "I just….I just want someone that loves me….sinner or saint."
Not a word was spoken as all three contemplated your statement, the silence hanging heavy like a brewing storm. Tilting your face to the sky, unable to meet the gazes of your companions, you chastised yourself for the candor with which you spoke. Osferth had asked a simple question initially and you chose to make it complicated. They did not need to know how you longed for love, how the hope for it in your potential future was what kept you going. It was foolish and you supposed after this, they would only see you as a silly girl with outlandish dreams of a storybook romance.
Finally, Osferth broke the silence. "Well, I shall be praying fervently for this man….hopefully he knows what he is getting into before he marries you."
You laughed, appreciating his lighthearted comment. Reaching a hand out to smack Osferth's arm, you teased. "Keep that up and you won't be invited to my wedding."
"Your mother will let me in."
"Yeah, you're probably right." You glanced over in the direction of the town, regretting that your time away had to end. "I need to head back, those chores won't finish themselves."
The three of you headed back to the town, quiet contemplation cloaking your group. Yet you feared that whatever spark lay between you and the Dane had been extinguished forever by your unexpected honesty. For still he refused to look your way, keeping his gaze focused forward. If your heart fissured within your chest, you swallowed down the pain. It was better for the spark to die out now then burn brightly only to be smothered later.
Or at least that was what you told yourself.
 *****
"What you said….about the sinners and the saints…."
You whirled around, heart leaping into your throat with a silent scream on your tongue. In the small herb garden behind your house, you had thought you were alone. After the awkward conversation on the hill earlier that day, you sought solace in your chores. Thankfully Osferth and Sihtric headed back to meet with their companions on their own accord, leaving you to trudge through your muddled thoughts with all the grace of a newborn foal.
Now you found the very person who your thoughts centered on, standing just a few paces from you….and your heart began to race for a very different reason.
When his voice trailed off, those dark eyes that set fire licking through your veins dropped to the ground, you quietly stood up from where you had knelt, wiping the dirt from your hands, although you moved no closer.
"Sihtric?" You tried to prompt him.
"Is it true?" His piercing gaze lifted to meet yours, stealing the very breath from your lungs. "Your love doesn't discriminate?"
 "Yes." You breathed out.
He nodded silently before taking a step closer to you. "And what about….what about Danes?"
Your chest pulled tight at his words, yet a coy smile grew on your lips. The flutter in your belly made your gaze drop for a moment as you tried to stifle the excitement making butterflies dance. Although this was no declaration, it was the closest the two of you had talked about what lay between you. Taking a steadying breath, you prayed this moment would not pass by without confessing the truth that you had harbored in your heart for weeks now.
"Not even towards Danes." You shook your head, the smile still on your lips. "And…. There is one I'm becoming quite fond of lately."
"Yeah?" He took two steps closer, somehow moving cautiously but eating the ground with each determined step.
"But….do you think this Dane could be….fond of me?" You softly murmured, feeling as if your heart lay in the palms of your hands for all to see.
That last step separating you two disappeared almost before you finished asking your question. His hands ever so gently reached over to take yours, entwining your fingers together. The two of you stood so close, your chests almost touched with each breath you took. Your breathing seemed to cease under the intensity of his gaze and a shiver raced up your spine. Yet you had no desire to withdraw from him.
"He would be a fool not to." He whispered, the barest hint of a tremble in his voice. "I'd bet you are constantly on this Dane's mind. That he cannot go a day without seeing your face and hearing your laugh. You are the first thought that he wakes to and the reason he falls asleep with a smile. That you have become the north star that it seems the gods have been guiding him towards for his whole life."
As he spoke, everything faded to oblivion around you. The past and future vanished. Dane versus Saxon disappeared. The world narrowed down to this….this moment….this moment that you had dreamt of but never thought would come true.
The two of you continued to stand there, lost in one another's eyes with fingers intertwined. Your heart raced within your chest but a cooling breeze swept away the fears that plagued your mind. For staring at him, you knew he spoke no falsehoods. That he owned your heart just as much as you owned his. That very heart you could feel hammering away in his own chest. His eyes fervently held yours, a silent conversation, a confession, spoken only in looks but you both understood the language. His gaze dipped down to your lips, tracing them before slowly rising once again to your eyes. A curl of pleasure blossomed in your core as you witnessed the fire now in his eyes.
"If this Dane wanted to kiss me…. I wouldn't mind."
A deliciously, sinful smirk teased his mouth. "As my lady commands."
His head tilted, leaning towards yours. Unconsciously your eyelids fluttered closed. Then the briefest of touches made your knees weak and your mouth part open in a sigh. After a moment's hesitation, he continued to shower your jawline with kisses. Needing to touch him, your hands landed on his chest, feeling the tunic that covered his firm chest. Your hands moved upward to grasp the back of his neck, his pulse jumping for a second as your nails scraped his skin. His hands landed on the curve of your waist, bringing you even closer to him, erasing the unwanted space between your bodies.
As his lips began their ascent upward along the otherwise of your jaw, you moved. For the burning sparks in your body screamed if he did not kiss you, you would spontaneously combust. Shifting your face, you stole a kiss on his lips before he could place it on your skin. It was more of a gentle pressing of your mouths, but even then, you heard a sharp inhale from him. Before you could question him, his mouth returned to yours with soft, probing kisses that urged you to respond. Not that you would ever deny him. What started off as a gentle flame quickly became a roaring fire. Breathing became unnecessary, for how could air bring you life when your body craved Sihtric, when your lungs demanded to breathe him in instead. He led you in a drugging kiss that had you melting against him. Your lips drank from one another as if that alone could sustain you forevermore.
 "THANK YA, GOD!!"
The passionate kiss abruptly ended as Sihtric and your gazes darted towards the side of your house. Only to be met with the sight of his three companions standing at the entrance in various states of smugness.
"Oh, for the love of Odin…." Sihtric mumbled.
You buried your face in Sihtric's chest, face heated in embarrassment but unable to stop the giggles that poured forth. So caught up in finally confessing your feelings and kissing the man who haunted your dreams, you forgot that anyone could walk by and see you. His arms tightened around you, keeping you within his protective, loving embrace….and you knew there was nowhere else you would rather be.
"Took the two of ya long enough." Finan continued, leaning against the side of your humble home with a shit-eating grin.
"Amen." Osferth had a small, teasing smile on his face. "Thought I would have to lock them in a room together before one of them finally confessed."
Apparently, you and Sihtric were not as subtle as you previously thought. Now it made sense why Osferth was questioning you about Cedric and your thoughts on love and marriage earlier. Your heart flooded with gratitude towards your childhood friend, for without him you doubted neither Sihtric or you would have spoken up. Peering over, you caught Osferth's eye and mouthed a quick 'thank you'. He nodded, a simple joy radiating from his face.
"Lord?" Sihtric called over with a blank expression. "Permission to continue?"
Uhtred chuckled. "I guess you've waited long enough. Go ahead."
Without waiting a moment longer, Sihtric tipped your face back up towards his and claimed your lips once more. You vaguely thought you heard laughter coming from the others but it all blurred away, like a faint sound while underwater. All you could see, all you could feel, all you could hear was Sihtric.
 Just how you wanted it.
Suddenly you yanked your head back, your breathing labored and lips swollen. "My mother is helping at a nearby farm today. She won't be back until it's dark."
He hummed against your skin trailing small kisses along your jawline and down your neck as if unable to keep his hands and mouth off you now that the dam had been released.
"I'm not as pure as Osferth thinks me to be."
That statement made his actions stop. Carefully he raised his head to meet your gaze. "After dark?" He confirmed, voice rough in a way that sent a bolt of heat through you.
"Yes, she planned on having supper with them….so my home is currently empty….and I did just clean my blankets the other day…."
He swooped in to give you a feverish, greedy kiss that left no doubt where his mind had gone. When he finally pulled back, you were surprised your legs could still hold you upright. Your whole body felt like puddy in his arms and he had only kissed you, albeit you doubted you would ever forget the way his mouth worshiped yours.
"You are certain? You want this?" He softly asked, staring into your eyes once more. "You want me?"
It was the last question, the vulnerable undertone, the hint of insecurity in it that sealed your decision. Letting your actions be your answer, you grabbed his hand and started pulling him in the direction of the door to your home. It did not take more than a second for him to come beside you, wrapping his arm around your waist.
With his taste on your lips, the future did not matter right now. It did not matter that he was Dane and you were not. All you knew was Sihtric was neither a saint nor a sinner, but simply a man deserving of love. The river of your love was pointing you directly towards him, and you silently vowed to never let it run dry.

Lessons Writers can learn from Hamilton
Tumblr media
Guess who finally watched Hamilton? I love historical dramas and films and now historical musicals. I am a bigger nerd than before and I can't stop singing My Shot. So what can we learn about writing from Hamilton?
Aaron Burr, Sir
Tumblr media
I really feel for Aaron Burr during the beginning of the story. Most of us have dealt with a similar issue: working hard yet somebody is always better than you. Even though Burr is technically the antagonist by story's end, most of the audience does get his point. But the problem with Burr, both by the audience's view and Hamilton's is the fact that he doesn't say what he believes in. La Fayette wants the fall of monarchy and better equality. Hamilton wants to make a place for himself in the world. Eliza wants her family to be happy. Burr tells Hamilton to keep his opinions to himself leading to Hamilton to ask, "Burr, the revolution's imminent. What do you stall for? If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?" Every character should have something they fight for. It endears them to the audience and allows us to stand behind them. Without goals and principles, a character will always just remain a name on a page and a collection of actions without meaning.
A different PoV- a different story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the Helpless section of the story, we witness the scene through Eliza Schuyler's eyes. We see her sister Angelica crossing the room to Alexander Hamilton to get him to dance with Eliza. Eliza sees Alexander as an honourable gallant, who has stolen her heart. Then in Satisfied, we see the scene from Angelica's PoV. Angelica is less naïve. She notes Hamilton's recognition of their last name, realizing that he's out to get a rich wife. She also realises that Hamilton will never be satisfied in life and that he's not a great catch socially or financially. "I asked about his fam'ly, did you see his answer? His hands started fidgeting, he looked askance He's penniless, he's flying by the seat of his pants". By showing this scene in dual PoV, we are awaken to both sides of Hamilton, the romantic version and the shrewd politician climbing his way up. By choosing a PoV character to tell a particular part of the story, you are moulding the events to the character's preconceived notions and opinions.
Foreshadowing
Tumblr media
Hamilton does one thing exceptionally well. It foreshadows the ending very well. Hamilton repeatedly tells us that he isn't going to throw away his shot. We think it means his shot at rising up from poverty and his chance at notoriety in the Revolution. It starts becoming literal as Philip goes off to his first duel, with Hamilton almost begging Philip to fire his weapon away from his opponent. It doesn't do Philip any good. Later on during the duel against Burr, Hamilton intentionally misses his shot just as his son had only to die when his opponent discharged his weapon, killing him. Burr even called back to Philip's duel while describing Hamilton's affect before their own duel. You only begin to realise how profound the echo of My Shot is.
Alluding to a bigger picture
Tumblr media
Hamilton may be a musical with no dialogue but that does not mean that there is no tell in the story. The actors do a great job of alluding to a deeper story behind the lyrics. During his last corporeal scene with Eliza, Hamilton's affect tells us that he at least very much suspects that he is not going to make it back this time. Lin Manuel Miranda's subtle expressions are just masterful. His mouth is saying one thing and his eyes are saying something completely else. In another brilliant Lin moment, the scene where Alexander blows up at Washington after the very first duel, you can see how angry Hamilton is. He is shaking despite his polite, yet curt replies. We don't even have to have the "Don't call me son" exchange. Lin's face tells us everything. Hamilton loves Washington like a father and resents him for rejecting his attempt to defend his name. We do not even have to be told, they showed us. There is always a deeper meaning to what a character does or says.
Your Protagonist is allowed do shitty things
Tumblr media
A protagonist is not perfect. Most of the stories we read are narrated by people, who are by definition imperfect. If you look at any story the narrator/protagonist is usually a good person but has flaws or has done some questionable things. Hamilton is the good guy of the story, the protagonist, the hero. He's pro-Revolution, anti-slavery and has a troubled past. Even still Hamilton has an affair. It is not his best move or even the most savoury thing. There is no redeeming reason for him to cheat but even still, the audience either forgives him outright or takes it in their stride. Your protagonist does not have to be squeaky clean. They are allowed to make dumb decisions.
Remember History has its eyes on you
Tumblr media
The one thing I often find missing in stories and worldbuilding is the media's/public's opinion on your characters or even the world around them. Hamilton hits the nail on the head. Your characters have no say on how they are perceived by their peers or the world around them. It is an interesting component to add in any narrative. What does the public say about your characters and world? "And when you're gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story? Who tells your story? Who tells your story?"

I'm fine and dandy,
Mind i ask your opinion on what became of the Gaang in LOK? I know the Toph being a cop thing ruffles some feathers and some don't accept Aang was a bad father.
HAT ANON HI glad to hear you are fine and dandy on this exquisite day of the week. And OOF this is a loaded question, but I'll do my best! :)
So I feel like there are a couple ways to answer this question based on your shipping preferences, but for the sake of this I'll try and answer everything based on what is considered canon. So ATLA, comics, and LOK.
I'll also preface by saying that I get why there are some controversial takes in LOK... I think they were trying to make the characters have more depth and show that even our favorite characters have flaws, even when they're adults. I just think that in some situations it was OOC and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you see where the Gaang went from the start to the end of ATLA, and then to see glimpses of their adult life and only seeing the trashiest parts.
Aang: If he's with Katara, it's not surprising to me that he's not a great father. Like, he has very strong opinions about his culture and while Katara is just as passionate about her upbringing, there isn't a ton of evidence of Aang accommodating the children's upbringing to also integrate SWT traditions in their lifestyle. I don't think he was outwardly trying to be a bad dad or anything, but his desperation to pass down Air Nomad traditions to an airbender overshadowed his primary need to be a father to all three of his kids. It's also really hard to see him as still this happy, lovable nice guy who treats everyone with kindness and respect when we know that he practically ignored 2 of his kids... But basically, his 'bad takes' as a dad were left unchecked, and his actions were probably defended by his wife as opposed to having to face them.
Katara: This one hurt lol. Again, it's not surprising that when she's with Aang that she chooses to settle down and be a wife and mother and healer. Aang's the Avatar, he's busy, their two oldest children are really rambunctious and are craving attention, so it's gonna be Katara to give them the love and care they need. But based on what we see in ATLA, it's just sad that we don't get to see or hear about any changes she made in the world or fighting. She really does seem to be ushered off to the side, left to retire in SWT after Aang dies. It's also sad/crazy that her strength and ability to stand up to disrespectful or ignorant people goes away when she's an adult. And I feel like this is glaring in her relationship with Aang and then also when Korra is finishing up training in the SWT. The other masters are whining that Korra isn't ready and Katara says she is and then the men keep complaining and whining. Like, no way would ATLA Katara let that go without her giving her two cents. Yes, she does help Korra leave, but she definitely would've said something to those old hoots. It's also weird that her strong resolve doesn't show up when she's raising her children with Aang. Why didn't she confront him? And if she did, how come nothing changed? Maybe it was too late, but idk. Katara doesn't seem like the person to let things go after she stood up to the problem once. Essentially, I'm upset that Katara was this strong and powerful female protagonist in ATLA, but not really hear about her amazing strides in the world in LOK (because if she did change the world, they didn't mention it... sad).
Sokka: Hmmm, he's not really ever shown in the show except in one flashback (because he's dead tears), but from what it sounds like, he didn't have any children, didn't sound like he ever really settled down, nothing like that. I think it would be sad if Aunt Wu's fortune was true and he never really ended up happy because of things he did. Would that be considered OOC? I don't think so... He was the goofy guy and the brains of the operations, but he seems like the guy that is afraid of being happy or ruins things when he is happy. My only reasoning for this is when he lost Yue, it changed him on some level, and at first he tried to push away Suki when she was initiating a kiss. Pretty light and lame reasons, but it's something....
Suki: MY GIRL SUKI NOT MENTIONED THAT'S SO OOC. Lol. Like, why didn't she randomly pop up from time to time? Are the Kyoshi Warriors just not around? I don't like that she wasn't in LOK, not even in a small flashback or anything. She was friends with the Gaang and it seems odd that no one mentioned their dear friend that helped save the world with them even if she passed away or anything. And also I don't think a casual statement about her settling in the suburbs counts as canon lol.
Toph: Okay. I don't hate that she's a cop. It's not really in character, but I don't hate it. If all of her friends settled in Republic City, and they all had their own responsibilities to deal with and asked Toph to run the RCPD, I think she would say yes out of loyalty to her friends, maybe out of boredom. I'm surprised she was in the role as long as she was, though... She was starting to get bored of her metalbending academy after a year or two once things were running smoothly, so she seems like the kind of woman that would search for the next adventure. But if she had to be a cop, I think she'd much rather be the one enforcing the rules at the top as opposed to following the rules, but... yeah. In a canon universe I struggle to come up with a long-term career for her, so I made my peace with the cop thing. Many of my friends haven't though lol, which is okay! Another thing I didn't like was how she was portrayed as a bad mother. Not that she was a bad mother (as much as it would suck, I can kind of see her being a bad mom), but they way she was a bad mom didn't really fit her character. She was neglected as a kid, doesn't seem right that she in turn would neglect her kids by giving them too much freedom. Also! My least favorite thing was how she had a 20/30 year rift with her girls, and then it was suddenly resolved. Like... No we need some more context to the conflict, and we need to see work being put into the resolution if we're going to bring this up. If Lin held a grudge against her family for 30 years, a short "sorry I wasn't a great mom, hope you don't hate me" comment isn't going to make her forgive them lol. I do like how she was portrayed as a single mother to two girls. She doesn't really seem like the type to settle down, and it was a nice surprise to see her have daughters from different men. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and it would've been the perfect opportunity to show those differences and show that there's more than one way to have a positive upbringing (Like, let's see the cloudbabies and the Beifongs both happy even though they had two very different parental upbringings? Just... there was an opportunity is all). And yeah, she seems like the one that would never settle down or have a family, so it would've been interesting to see her handle motherhood and her job! So I'm okay with that bit.
Zuko: Okay Zuko seems chill in canon, but who's his wife? Where she at? He got a partner or anything? We may never know... But it's nice that he appeared to have a happy life with good kids and grandkids... And yet I'm confused as to why Korra preferred to go to Zuko instead of the Avatar's wife for advice on what Aang would have done when choosing between saving the Air Nomads and turning herself in to the Red Lotus?? Like, I know Katara was in the SWT, but they have phones now, you're telling me they couldn't have called Katara? Why wasn't Katara the first person they thought to ask about the situation? I know the logistics would've been difficult considering Katara is holed up in the SWT, but why did everyone say that Zuko knew Aang the best? Why didn't his wife know him the best? Thoughts to ponder.
Okay. I wrote a lot and there's probably more that I do and don't like about how the characters were portrayed... But I think what it all boils down to is that there was an opportunity to still get depth in these beloved characters without us being frustrated with situations that are OOC. Then again, that would make it less about the Krew and more about the Gaang... It just seems like a bit of a slap to the face when we see glaring problems with the Gaang's characterization, and yet, we get no explanation. It does allow for canon writers to play with the 70 years in between, but idk. I much prefer AU's where there's time and opportunity to explore the characters as their best selves I suppose. Honestly, with my disinterest and disliking of canon ships, I don't see the bad takes in LOK as OOC, but it makes me wonder how different things could have been if other ships were made canon (thank goodness they weren't, we're not pigeonholed into one type of story, but still).
Does this kind of answer your question? Lol, sorry if not. My thoughts are all over the place with this one! Thank you for the ask, though, Hatty. Hope you have a great day! :)

A Defence of Kataang with regards to how they are portrayed in TLoK (it’s long but there’s headcanons at the end)
Note: This is not about shipping wars. This is a safe zone. This is not about Zutara vs Kataang. This is me defending Kataang and the characters themselves...from the writers.
I initially wrote this as a response to a post that got me heated. My reblog just made it too long so here it is as its own post.
Now this post ripped apart Kataang as a couple but more than that said some stuff about Aang himself that hurt my heart. I didn’t really want to pick on this post but its condemning of Kataang was based almost entirely in what we know of them as parents in TLoK and honestly it’s that lil nugget of canon that I take issue with. It has bothered me from the get go because it doesn’t make sense from a writing and story perspective, and it’s been pissing me off since I watched it.
TL;DR nice and early bc this post is gonna be a long one:
This particular condemnation of Kataang rests almost entirely on the SHITTY way they were portrayed as parents by the writers of LoK, and in all honesty, on this particular topic, canon should be ignored.
Overall Kataang parenting is of my biggest gripes with LoK because in terms of writing it’s totally incongruous - it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t align, and it makes zero sense for what we know of those characters, and I don’t know if I can ever forgive the showrunners for allowing it to be written it into canon.
I will also preface this by saying I like LoK - love it. I had a scroll through the comments and reblogs on this post, and a lot of the hate towards this portrayal of Kataang ended up being blamed on the “terrible writing of LoK” which is not where I stand at all. That being said I am so angry at the writers for this one.
The other portion of the concurring comments that were very hateful towards Kataang came from Zutara shippers and honestly for me, although I do ship Kataang, this not a just a Kataang issue. I’m of the belief that Zutara would’ve just as easily been written to have similar issues due to very similar dynamics - Zutara also would have been two powerful benders from very different cultures, and with Zuko/Aang (whoever you ship w her) having a massively important global leadership role that is embedded in who they are, and therefore impossible to ignore as a factor in their relationship.
Now let me be clear, my desire to reject canon on this front is by no means me wanting to believe the best of my faves, and not wanting to hear a word against Aang. It’s not even necessarily a defence of Kataang bc I ship it that hard (I mean I do but I can set that aside for the sake of argument if that’s what you need from me here).
The first, and main issue people have with Aang/Kataang in Korra, is the first point of the original post:
So why in hell would [Katara] be okay with Aang ignoring TWO of their children’s complete existence once he found out they had an airbending son?
And I agree with the post on this front; Katara would not have allowed her children to each be treated differently by their father. I had the same initial thought when watching LoK, and it’s the reason I hate and want to ignore the canon of LoK so badly.
As much as it hurts to think of, we have to accept that Aang wouldn’t have been able to stop his preferential treatment for Tenzin from bleeding through into his parenting just out of a desperate desire to save his culture (which is absolutely understandable - doesn’t make it okay, but it’s understandable; Aang suffered an incredible loss, a massive cultural trauma which he alone carries the burden of). So of course he wasn’t able to hide how excited he was, and forgot to be mindful of his attitude and behaviour towards Kya and Bumi. So this aspect of canon Kataang? Yeah, I’m with it. So far so good. EXCEPT the most unrealistic element of canon is now that Katara would let him. I simply do not believe for a second that Katara would’ve allowed Aang to be the kind of parent LoK painted him to be.
However, I do not think it would’ve been a point of contention between the two of them! Katara would pull him aside, Katara would gently (but firmly) point out what Aang mightn’t be able to see for himself - he’s focusing too hard on Tenzin.
And Aang would listen.
All throughout A;tLA the two of them often help the other sort through their stuff. Aang has a great track record of being receptive to Katara’s advice and help (calming him down when discovering Monk Gyatso’s body, The Desert when he Appa is stolen, Serpent’s Pass when he’s bottling his feelings about Appa being missing). He’s also just so receptive to others’ ideas - he just goes with it and trusts in his friends (think of his trust in Katara’s plan to rescue Haru, his trust in staying behind with Sokka in the library to get the eclipse info). Aang’s humility is one of the most incredible things about him and it’s at the core of who he is. He would absolutely be able to hear Katara telling him he’s focusing too hard on one child - he would be open, and he’d listen.
So to me now canon just does not make sense at all. it does not align with their established character traits. And yes, people change as they get older and grow into adulthood but honestly, the elements of their respective personalities that we’re talking about here are pretty core elements of who these two people are.
Katara has always been fiercely protective of those she loves, strongwilled, stubborn, and ready to (vocally or physically) fight for what she believes is right and that wouldn’t disappear as she gets older. She wouldn’t let Aang’s preferrential treatment slide.
Aang has always been, and chose to be despite his loss, an optimistic, kind, believe in the best of humanity kind of person. He’s open to all points of view, he’s a good listener, he always tries his absolute best to find solutions that are good for everyone. And again his humility, his willingness to love, is who he is.  He believes all humans (including fkn OZAI) and all life are sacred, he believes in the absolute right to life. The kid is a vegetarian for crying out loud.
Now the parts of the take in the post that hurt my heart to read about what OP thinks of Aang:
“Aang never made an attempt to establish anything resembling a real familial unit with Katara, basically just stayed around until she popped out an Airbender [...] she was treated like some trophy wife to give birth to airbenders and that’s it!”
I wasn’t going to address this in this post until I read the comments in the notes, because people seem to agree. They share the sentiment that Katara was reduced to “just a love interest” by the two ending up together.
However I do very much take issue w the notion that Aang “basically just stayed around until she popped out an Airbender” (and honestly that entire paragraph - we don’t actually know that Aang didn’t make an effort to establish a family unit). As much as the LoK writers fucked up in their portrayal of Kataang as parents, this is a much harsher judgement of Aang’s character as a husband and father than anything implied by Aang and Katara’s children. I just don’t buy that Aang would view Katara (or anyone he married, even if you don’t ship Kataang) as a trophy wife, whose only role is to have airbender children. He never has viewed her that way - he has always looked at her like she’s the sun, and the most important person to him after she pulled him out of the iceburg. He loves her the most of anyone on the planet. It does not align with his character, his values or beliefs that he’d think of her (or any partner) that way. He is so besotted with Katara for who she is it HURT me to read that part of your take. Aang simply would never. Look at how he looks at her!
Tumblr media
What’s more is the unwavering respect and deference he shows Katara as his waterbending master - he recognises and loves her as the whole, complete, three dimensional, TALENTED POWERFUL INCREDIBLE WOMAN that she is. She is NEVER “just” a love interest for Aang. (But ALSO, do we respect Suki any less for being Sokka’s obvious love interest??? No. suki is written to be so badass that Sokka is HER love interest and I think Katara has equally badass energy but I digress).
Moving on!
OP made an excellent point that there would’ve been culturally different values between the two but I don’t think it would’ve been family that was the clashing point. Yes the airbenders value spirituality and enlightenment. But they lived together in massive communities! They supported and raised one another. Their community and culture was strong, and they were bonded in their spirituality! They value love, as well as enlightenment, peace, and the lives of all.
Now, again the points they made about the cultural divides within the Kataang family unit are valid, but also again I dislike how they chose to portray this in LoK. It would definitely be a struggle they faced as a couple. However I think they really missed an opportunity here with where they took it. Because they do at one point in the comics have Katara bring up the fact that their family will be a blend of two cultures, and she brings it up because Aang is trying so hard to bring balance back to the world by means of seperation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’ve known from the get go of being a couple that they’re going to have to navigate being a culturally blended family unit.
So I find it so shitty that they wrote it so that Kya got to learn the waterbending culture, Tenzin got Air and bumi got…nothing? It’s dangerously close to the way Disney does the “the girls are carbon copies of mum, and the boys are carbon copies of dad” thing (think Lady and the Tramp). It’s lazy. Especially when we had that “separation is an illusion” episode, AND things like Zuko learning different nation’s styles and applying them to his firebending, and Sokka learning an element of strategy or fighting from every nation.
So give us Kya using Airbending moves with her waterbending (maybe she invents the water scooter)! Give us Tenzin doing more grounded moves that Aunty Toph (or Lin, while they were together) taught him from earthbending.
There are much more creative ways to illustrate the bumps and troubles Kataang might have run into in trying to navigate incorporating equal parts of their cultures in their children and family unit. Even just smaller scale issues like food and meals - how do they figure out how to do mealstimes with Aang’s vegetarianism with Katara’s culturally significant Water Tribe meat dishes? And then even taking into account how picky little kids can be!
Give me a scene where they literally just ate moon pies for a week because toddler Kya would scream if you put anything else down in front of her.
Maybe Bumi demanded sea prunes over and over but Katara and Bumi are the only ones who like them, and Bumi bonds with his mother this way - they go on little one-on-one outings to water tribe restaurants in Republic City, searching for the most authentic sea prunes!
Kya maybe likes the water tribe fashions the most because it helps her connect with her namesake BUT Kya also has a playful sense of humour - not unlike Monk Gyatso - Aang sees how much she loved moon pies and teaches her to throw them with waterbending.
We know Tenzin was a calm, quiet, and possibly shy child. Maybe he loved to hole himself away learning crafts. Give me Tenzin learning to tattoo, Tenzin learning to carve (and carving his first glider - it crashes of course), but also Tenzin learning to carve water tribe adornments and necklaces. Katara tries at first but when she gets busy Sokka comes in and teaches Tenzin to break all the carving rules Katara has laid down (”it doesn’t need to be perfect my little pupil - let the creativity flow!”)
Tenzin may not be able to waterbend but that doesn’t mean he can’t learn other means of healing. As the littlest he spent a lot of time watching Katara work - she teaches him to tie splints, dress wounds, and yes deliver babies.
If you made it here I love you so much for reading. I love sharing my thoughts so HIGH FIVE YOU MADE IT, ur now my friend - the friendship is non-refundable sorry 😌😌

Final thoughts on the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.
LOTS of spoilers under the cut! Do not look at this post if you don’t want to see spoilers!
And remember, this is all just my opinion. It’s not like an actual in-depth review because I’m not a film student; this is just my perspective on what I saw as a fan of this franchise.
POSITIVE
Sub-Zero and Scorpion were great. Opening fight was great.
“Eddy Tobias” namedrop lmao
I love the snow preceding Sub-Zero’s attack. Very foreboding.
Score is AWESOME. My favorite soundtrack is probably the one that plays when Sub-Zero is attacking them in the city towards the beginning.
Sonya rigging her house with a secret bunker and trap doors is smart and fits her character.
I like that the dragon logo has an integral meaning to the story.
Loved Jax vs Sub-Zero. Not mad about the origin change of Jax’s arms. I like that he had to work through his feelings of inadequacy and failure; people don’t just immediately bounce back after something that traumatic. I also like that his arcana manifests to protect Sonya rather than in the heat of battle. It shows his emotional priorities and what separates him from people like Kano who manifest their arcana in a fit of rage.
Sonya “Throw Hands on Sight” Blade lmfao. They nailed her fighting style too and I am happy.
Kano is the best thing about this movie. No competition.
Kotal reference!
Nightwolf reference!
Shang Tsung’s soul magic being black and wispy and foreshadowing Noob Saibot.
KANO DID THE HEART RIP
CHEKOV’S GNOME I’M SCREAAAAAAMMMMIIIIIINNNNGGGGGG
I love Liu Kang in this. He is 1000000% a Wholesome Boi. I like that he’s younger and unhardened and not the fully realized champion version of his character yet. Let him grow into it so it feels earned later on. I like that he’s the underdog, and I like what they’ve set up for him in the future. Also, the casting for him was perfect and they nailed his fighting style, too.
That little “the FUCK” that the Kano actor improvised(?) in the middle of Liu Kang’s lines made me laugh more than it should have. I don’t know why that moment got to me so much but it did.
I love Kung Lao. And they nailed his fighting style, too! Great to see variation that represents the characters (though there were less shining examples, which I’ll touch on later).
LOW SWEEP! LOW SWEEP! LOW SWEEP!
Egg roll scene is best scene.
Kabal! I love his dry humor. And his voice reminds me of Duke Nukem, which I’m not mad about. It complemented his dialogue well.
Not mad about Kung Lao’s death because it was meaningful. His fatality on Nitara was sick, too.
Liu Kang taking the ribbon from Kung Lao’s hat and wearing it in his honor, giving an origin for his signature headband is FANTASTIC.
THE PIT!
FLYING BICYCLE KICKS!
LIU KANG’S DRAGON FATALITY!
SONYA’S ENERGY RINGS!
Sub-Zero was a GREAT final boss. They really built him up appropriately to make him feel like it.
Scorpion’s fatality! And his skull face!
NEUTRAL
Not sure how I feel about Sub-Zero being wholly evil and there being no involvement from Quan Chi. It’s more straight forward for sure. It makes him an interesting (and badass) character, and I’m really behind this portrayal in that he is one of the most believable characters in the movie, but I’m not sure if I like the implications for later films in how this has simplified the dynamic in the entire Shirai Ryu vs Lin Kuei plotline. Having Quan Chi be the Machiavelli was always one of my favorite MK twists. And how do we eventually end the feud now? If Bi-Han / the Lin Kuei were wholly responsible, why should Hanzo EVER make peace with Kuai Liang down the line? The complexity feels like it’s been stripped down a bit, but I do love this iteration of Sub-Zero. I truly do. That’s why this is in the neutral category and not the negative XD.
Why didn’t Jax tell Cole when he saw the mark? Why wait until his family gets attacked? Maybe he didn’t want to do it in front of his family to keep them out of it, but that ends up endangering them more. Not a gripe, just a curiosity.
Sound editing was a bit too intense at times for my taste. I have tinnitus, so...big boomy bass with very mild voices is a chore for my ears to switch between. My ears were ringing within the first twelve minutes.
Torn between “fuck you Reiko” and “Reiko deserved better”. He deserved just a little bit better, but Skarlet says “get fucked” anyway.
I don’t like the “shaky cam” used in the fight scenes. Not my cup of tea. Very hard to visually process at times.
Whatever cosmic force is picking the champions for Earthrealm is doing a shitty job at it.
Why did they change the location of the Sky Temple to a desert? Again, not a gripe, a curiosity.
“We will not see another full moon before the tournament begins” THEN WHERE IS THE TOURNAMENT BUDDY???
Not sure how I feel about the “arcana” concept. It’s an okay plot device but kinda hammy.
Kitana’s fan! But why? Why is it there? I could understand the Kotal and Nightwolf references because Sonya has been researching, but why is Kitana’s fan randomly in an Earthrealm temple? Purely cheap fanservice.
Nitara was really cool. Shame she had to die, but her death was cool and there have to be some characters that get killed off. Wish she had more screentime though; feels like another instance of fanservice just having her show up basically as a namedrop and a quick kill.
The phrase “Are you okay?” was said WAY too much in this film. So much that I actually notices how often it was said, and I usually don’t pick up on these things.
Pretty sure a camera operator fell at one point in a Sonya scene because the camera jerked around violently all of the sudden then stabilized. Whoops.
How did Sub-Zero know to take Cole’s family to the gym? WHY did he take them there?
NEGATIVE
Opening scene was awesome, but it’s emotional impact felt stunted. I feel like the order of events should have been twisted a bit. Hanzo find his wife and son should have been the big emotional climax of the scene, but it felt like a passing moment and gave him no time to mourn and no time for the impact to truly set in with me. It was an “oh no they died” moment instead of an “ OH MY GOD THEY DIED THIS IS SO FUCKED FUCK YOU SUB-ZERO” moment. I dare say that the Legacy web series did it better in spite of their lower budget and overall quality; the series of events had better pacing and gave more emotional impact because of it. I said what I fucking said don’t @ me.
Wish we got more Scorpion. I love Sanada, I love him as Scorpion, but they didn’t give us the time we needed with his character to truly get a grasp of him.
Cole Young is like white bread in a parade of decorative cakes.
Raiden, a normally passionate and protective character whose fatal flaw is that he involves himself too much in events because he cares about the people in his realm and ends up fucking things up because of it, now seems to not care in the slightest. He feels completely uninvolved save for an occasional pop in to give a nod of disapproval. I don’t like this unemotional take on one of the most emotional characters in Mortal Kombat.
Small complaint from my perspective as a martial artist but uh...”Throw your uppercut!” was a bullshit line in a bullshit scene. If you’re locked up with someone like that and the guy has his arms around your neck, you physically cannot uppercut. You cannot fit your arms between his arms because they are cinched tightly around your shoulders/neck. YOUR HEAD is between your fist + bicep and HIS HEAD. In that situation, the guy has also left his body completely unguarded, so the most logical thing to do since you CANNOT reach his head is to go for BODY BLOWS. Beat him until he lets go to protect himself, catch his floating rib with double strikes, or punch the dude in his fucking liver as hard as you can to DROP HIM. Cole is supposed to be an experienced fighter, yet he makes one of the most rookie mistakes a fighter could ever make. Normally I wouldn’t care to point out mistakes in fight choreography or whatever because it’s MK and I expect ridiculousness, but this is the WRONG kind of ridiculous. It’s just NONSENSE.
I have SO MANY issues with Mileena. I’ll make this as short as I can. I don’t like the design of her mouth. I don’t like her weird stacked voice. She shows NO personality, not in her acting or even her fighting style, just an evil minion that got angry because she almost got her ass kicked. The turned one of the principle characters of the entire franchise and a fan favorite into a GRUNT. There is NO mention of Kitana outside of literal “fan”-service. Not even a reference to one of the most important plotlines in all of Mortal Kombat. And then they KILL HER OFF!!! When they do inevitably bring in Kitana WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO DO SINCE THEY KILLED OFF MILEENA???? I’m heated and biased and they did my girl dirty.
Speaking of doing characters dirty, poor Reptile. They turned him into an actual animal. What a waste.
Why are they so mean to Sonya if she doesn’t have a mark? She wouldn’t be as much of a “liability” if they would take the time to prepare her and teach her how to defend against fighters that have unlocked their arcana. Mind-numbingly stupid logic.
This movie relies A LOT on prerequisite knowledge to work. It’s like they want fans to fill in the blanks for them. But not everyone watching is already a fan; this isn’t an obscure release, this is a blockbuster movie released worldwide. These gaps in lore and prior knowledge don’t make sense for such a broad audience.
Cole Young literally could have just been Johnny Cage.
Where was Raiden when his temple was being assaulted?
Cole’s arcana is LITERAL PLOT ARMOR IM FUCKING DONE
No but for real that’s the most boring decision they just ripped off Jax’s MK11 heater effect and Baraka’s blades (I know they’re tonfa and they aren’t attached and I DON’T CARE). Also, now he’s suddenly good at fighting again? After being dog shit this entire movie??? And tanks Goro?????
If Raiden is an Elder God in this continuity, why is he allowed to help Earthrealm AT ALL? It seems like favoritism and bends the rules that the Elder Gods are supposedly bound by way too much. They really just shouldn’t have made him an Elder God; I honestly think they just said it to introduce the concept without a fuck given towards the actual lore of the Elder Gods.
WHY DID RAIDEN TELEPORT KANO TO SONYA’S HOUSE AFTER HE BETRAYED THEM I HAD TO REWATCH THAT SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE SURE I JUST SAW WHAT I SAW  WHAT THE ACTUAL NONSENSICAL FUCK
Cole REALLY should not have been involved in that last fight. Especially not after Scorpion shows up. It should have been Scorpion vs Sub-Zero ONLY for the final fight. Cole tag-teaming Sub-Zero with Scorpion cheapens Scorpion’s revenge.
Camera work in the final fight was not good, especially in the first portion. At one point Cole gets thrown into a fence, but it cuts to an awkward inverse angle that makes him look like he’s bouncing off of a trampoline. This continues to happen and ruins several shots for me.
Honestly Scorpion should have just possessed Cole. Permanently. No switching back and forth. No more Cole, only Scorpion.
PREDICTIONS
Lots of dead characters come back as revenants and / or with upgrades.
Kano comes back with cyber eye.
Mileena comes back with full teeth.
Liu Kang becomes MK champion, wins tournament, and kills Shang Tsung. As it should be.
Cole Young helps Liu Kang become champion somehow idk maybe he sacrifices himself or something just please don’t make Cole the champion I will start a riot.
Next movie will start IMMEDIATELY at the tournament since there was supposedly less than a month until the tournament starts in this movie.
New characters coming in will be Kitana, Shao Kahn, Jade, Quan Chi, Kuai Liang, Noob Saibot, Ermac, and Johnny Cage.
OVERALL
This movie was good, bloody fun! It’s not an A++ Oscar-winner, but if you expected that going into it, you played yourself. It was Mortal Kombat; it was stupid, it was gory, and I had a blast watching it. Kano and Liu Kang were the best parts of the movie for me, with Scorpion and Sub-Zero tied for third. Also I popped a lot for the cheap nostalgia hits. I’m overall satisfied with what we got in spite of my complaints, and I only complain so in-depth about the things I love lmao so trust me when I say I’m not actually mad, just nitpicky. I’ve watched it twice now, and I would watch it again. It’s like a 6.8/10 for me.

Part 3 of “All the right places” Part 1: Snapped Part 2: Mended
Someone on AO3 requested a third part, so here we are...It’s not really what I wanted it to be, but it refused to be a crackfic and demanded to be taken seriously. ^^
Read on AO3
Monday
Once more Shen Wei was glad that his Black Cloak Envoy outfit came with a mask and a hood. A long time ago he had told Kunlun that the mask was crucial to not let see his enemies his fears. While that still held true, he discovered that it could hide a whole variety of emotions.
What Shen Wei felt right now was a peculiar mix of anger, shame and utter mortification. Anger at himself, that he hadn’t trusted Yunlan; shame that he ruined his surprise and mortification, because now he felt the eyes of the whole SID team burning into him when he so much as breathed.
It was horrible, and the worst part was that he had to endure it alone. Zhao Yunlan had been called to an emergency meeting with the Minister and Shen Wei was stuck at the headquarters with the rest of the team.
Sunday had been comparably fine; they had stayed in, cooked together and Shen Wei had endured Zhao Yunlan’s good-natured teasing. It had been fine. Until the call.
Some landlady had checked on one of her missing tenants and had discovered a scene out of a horror movie, with blood pools and scorch marks on the ceiling. The summoned police officer had taken one look at it and immediately called Zhao Yunlan, who in turn had called the SID and informed the Minister.
Which is how Shen Wei, in his role as Hei Pao Shi, found himself on an SID sofa, sweating under his hood, some gruesome crime scene photos in front of him. He tried to focus on the task at hand, but his thoughts and gaze kept returning to the people around him.
Da Qing, Yunlan’s second-in-command-best-friend-who-is-also-a-cat, who currently sprawled haphazardly over his sofa, munching on some dried fish. He had thrown one very scrutinising look at Shen Wei when he entered the SID via portal, and since then had carefully avoided his gaze. Shen Wei wasn’t sure what Zhao Yunlan had told him when he had called him the day before, but he wasn’t sure either if he wanted to know.
Shen Wei turned a bit to see Chu Shuzhi better. The puppet master, who was the only one here who respected Shen Wei more than Zhao Yunlan. Well, had respected, Shen Wei winced internally. After his performance last Friday he was probably lucky that Lao Chu hadn’t chewed him out personally, although that might still follow when they weren’t hunting the Dixing equivalent to Freddy Kruger. Shen Wei fought the impulse to hide his face in his hands.
Then again, he mused, if he had to atone for his behaviour, he might as well start with Xiao Guo. The newbie was the most susceptible member of the team and also the only one who had greeted Shen Wei with a heartfelt smile earlier. Probably not the worst idea. In any case better than trying to talk to Zhu Hong. Shen Wei shivered involuntarily. His relationship to the Snake Yashou had been fragile before…well, before, and he was certain it hadn’t helped at all that he had handled Yunlan so roughly. Shen Wei smothered a groan and tried to focus on the photos.
There was a large blood pool in the middle of the room with a circular pattern on the walls around it, as if something – or someone, he corrected mentally – had been dropped into the puddle. Completing the ghastly scene he saw a few black spots under all the blood, black energy residue. Whatever had happened to the tenant, whose body had been found crumpled and almost beyond recognition, it surely hadn’t been pleasant.
Da Qing scratched his head. “What I don’t understand”, he said, “is that nobody heard anything. I mean”, he pointed at a photo, “that looks like he was thrown around in the room. Surely that hasn’t happened quietly. Hei Pao Shi, do you know any Dixing power that could, I dunno, make an apartment soundproof?”
Shen Wei startled out of his reverie, painfully aware that everyone in the room had their eyes on him. “I”, he began, but had to clear his throat. “I don’t think so. I mean”, he corrected himself, “of course it is possible, but look at these black marks here. They are definitely connected to the blood, and soundproofing wouldn’t result in such marks.” He pushed one picture to the middle to show them what he meant.
“Huh.” Da Qing nodded thoughtfully. “That still doesn’t explain why nobody heard anything.”
“And we still don’t know why the guy was targeted in the first place”, Chu Shuzhi added with a look at Shen Wei. “Maybe if we find the motive, we find the killer.”
They all nodded in various degrees of agreement, but nobody seemed to have a thought to continue with. They all sat in silence, until a voice said: “What am I paying you for, exactly? Remind me again.”
Shen Wei had sensed Zhao Yunlan’s arrival – he always sensed his love, no matter where he was – and had smiled slightly at him, but hadn’t found anything to say. He still felt awful and wasn’t sure that it wouldn't be noticeable in his voice.
Zhao Yunlan’s comment had spurred his team into action, but he silenced them with a careless wave of his hand. “The Minister didn’t have to say anything helpful, except that we should hurry to finish this PR nightmare, which we would have done anyway, even without his thoughtful advice.” Shen Wei almost rolled his eyes. The ministry really wasn’t helping.
“Also,” Zhao Yunlan continued, “I made a few calls on the way back here and I might have a clue. Actually, more than a clue.” He shoved Da Qing to the side and wriggled beside Shen Wei onto the sofa. The cat protested, but then settled next to Zhao Yunlan on the armrest. “The landlady said there has been but one visitor to the apartment in the last months. A woman, early forties like our victim, pretty, black hair, looked like a film star. Her words, not mine.” He winked at Shen Wei who felt a sting in his heart. What had he done to deserve this man?
The man in question added, “She was adamant they were having an affair. I asked her how she would know that and she laughed at me, said a woman knows that.” He grinned at Zhu Hong, who huffed and looked ready to throttle him. Shen Wei contemplated if he had to intervene in case she did. It wouldn’t really help their relationship and Zhao Yunlan was very capable of defending himself, he decided.
“Anyway,” Chu Shuzhi stepped in, “if she is correct, then we have to look for the woman and possibly also her boyfriend or husband.”
“Way ahead of you”, Zhao Yunlan smirked, sounding very pleased with himself, “I already called an old friend in the department that deals with the domestic violence cases and asked if he knew anyone with a temper and a wife or girlfriend who looked like our mysterious affair. He did, actually, so I now have two dudes who I need to question. I just came here to collect Shen Wei. Da Qing, you go find Lin Jing in his cave of a lab and take him and his dark energy detector to this address.” He handed him a post-it. “Shen Wei and I go talk to the other one and see if we find anything suspicious.”
***
“Baobei, are you mad at me?”
Shen Wei almost jumped in his car seat and turned hastily towards Zhao Yunlan. “No? I  mean,” he cleared his throat, “no, I am not mad. Why would I be?” Zhao Yunlan looked at him briefly and then back on the road. “Because you haven’t said a word since we got in the car. Thirty-eight minutes ago. I counted.” Shen Wei closed his eyes and forcefully calmed his breathing. “I am not mad, Yunlan. On the contrary, I feared that you might be still angry with me. I didn’t know what to say.”
Zhao Yunlan looked over again and raised an eyebrow. “Why would I.. Oh, baobei. Darling. Xiao Wei. Are you still thinking about Friday?” Without taking his eyes from the road, he reached out and placed his hand on Shen Wei’s thigh. Shen Wei nodded miserably. “I am so sorry, Yunlan”, he said, for a hundredth time, because he hadn’t anything else to offer.
Zhao Yunlan moved his hand to caress his thigh. “Baobei. I love you. Nothing you do could change that. Not even kidnapping me with dark energy.” He grinned at Shen Wei who shrunk into his car seat. “And besides, you explained why you did it. It’s over, Shen Wei, over and done. Don’t think about it anymore.”
Shen Wei nodded and relaxed a bit. He released a breath he didn’t know he had been holding. “Thank you.” He bit his lip and swallowed the rest of the sentence. Zhao Yunlan looked him over again. “You’re still going to keep apologising, do you?” Shen Wei didn’t know what to say to that.
***
The case that had begun so complicated turned out to be anything but. They had knocked on the suspect’s door, only to be greeted by a dull thud inside the house and something that sounded suspiciously like a muffled scream. In wordless agreement Zhao Yunlan had drawn his dark energy pistol, while Shen Wei had summoned his glaive. When they had entered through the unlocked front door, they had found their suspect busy throwing another man around the room, shouting obscenities about fucking his wife, dark energy flaring around them both. It had needed both their authority to calm the furious man, save the alleged lover from more harm and find the wife, who had barricaded herself in the laundry room and had only come out after a lot of Shen Wei’s patient coaxing. They had briefly parted ways there; Shen Wei, glaive in one hand, the other firmly around the delinquent’s neck, had portaled directly to the Palace to deliver his unwilling parcel, while Zhao Yunlan had called an ambulance for the mangled lover, taken the wife’s statement and made a few calls to his friends at the force and the team to fill them in.
When Shen Wei stepped through yet another portal into the SID, he wasn’t surprised not to see his boyfriend there. Instead, he found Zhu Hong and, since their interview naturally hadn’t brought any results earlier, Da Qing and Lin Jing, as well as Guo Changcheng and Chu Shuzhi. Shen Wei winced, but squared his shoulders. He might as well get it over with. Stepping into the room, he took a deep breath. “I-”, he began, but Da Qing interrupted him, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You don’t have to say anything, Hei Pao Shi. We know what happened Friday was a misunderstanding, and we know why you did it.”
“You-”, Shen Wei tried again, but this time it was Zhu Hong who didn’t let him finish. “The boss told us. About the nightmares. You are an idiot. Why didn’t you tell us?” She straightened up and cast him a look that felt like a challenge.
“I-”
“We all had nightmares, Shen Wei.” Da Qing sounded pained. “Wang Zhen and Sang Zan die, Lao Li died…” He trailed off and swallowed hard. “It wasn’t easy for any of us.”
Shen Wei felt a new surge of emotions, but this time he didn’t fight his tears. He put one arm around Da Qing, and as the cat didn’t resist, he pulled him into a tight embrace. Nobody said anything, but Shen Wei heard Xiao Guo sniffle, then sob silently into Lao Chu’s shoulder.
Just as he let go of Da Qing and awkwardly took a step back, the front door opened to reveal Zhao Yunlan. Zhu Hong turned around to furiously wipe her eyes, while Shen Wei smiled at his boyfriend. Zhao Yunlan returned the smile, taking in the scene before him.
“All good?”, he asked.
“All good,” Shen Wei confirmed with a smile.
It really was, he thought.

No Weapons I’m just a regular human lol
Powers:
Does cooking count? I’m a good cook, but like I mentioned, I’m just a regular human. How about managing to woo a literal block of ice and an emotionless undead wraith? I’ll count that.
Personality:
I usually like to describe myself as the quintessential Aries, BUT I’m only the negative traits of an Aries, I have none of the positives, ie I’m impatient, hot-headed, horny (though I don’t think I’d count that as a negative) and competitive (to the point my parents had to ban RISK in the house lol), but I’m not outgoing, self-confident, energetic or independent.  I’m someone with incredibly low self-confidence and not a good self-image, I’m usually pretty awkward and uncomfortable around people I don’t know, but once I open up to people, I’m a very caring and protective individual. I pride myself for always being there for my friends and always defending them. I’m very stubborn and can be pretty childish at times, but at the same time I try my best to be a really supportive person who always tries to bring goodness into the world.
History:
I grew up in a complicated family situation, I have a very loving and supportive Father who is married to an absolute monster, my Mother is a narcissistic, verbally abusive, emotionally manipulative narcissist who did everything in her power to destroy my self-esteem and self-confidence. I call it complicated because my Mother is an entirely different person around my Father and my older brother’s than she is around me, to them she is the loving, doting, devoted wife, and mother and to me she’s the root of all of my mental health problems. Growing up in such a verbally abusive environment forced me to branch out to find the love and acceptance I was missing at home, luckily for me in second grade which is around the time I became aware of my Mother’s behavior I met my childhood best friend, Kaori. Her family had moved from Shizuoka, Japan to the suburbs of Atlanta around the same time I had moved there from Michigan, she quickly became my best friend and the sister I never had. Kaori’s Mom, Mama Suzuki became the loving mother I desperately wanted, I was obsessed with everything Japanese because that’s what Kaori was into, so I wanted to love everything she did. We were obsessed with Sanrio and Sailor Moon and it was fantastic, sadly for me Kaori’s family moved back to Japan when I was about 14 and my family moved farther out from Atlanta. I was trapped again in my house with no one to escape to and my Mother became extremely controlling, I wasn’t allowed to go over to any friend’s houses anymore, she wouldn’t even let me write to Kaori in Japan, so I very sadly lost contact with her entirely. I managed to survive those four year, but not in a healthy way, I turned to bulimia and anorexia in an attempt to win my Mother’s love and approval as she’s always been so cruel about my weight, I also cut myself regularly. I never dated anyone in high school because my Mother absolutely destroyed my self-esteem, I was so convinced I wasn’t good enough for anyone that I didn’t even try. I was bullied and teased relentlessly in high school those four years were probably the worst of my life, I had no escape, but I persisted. I graduated high school with nearly a perfect score on the ACTs and a nearly perfect GPA, finally I had an out. I was accepted to my dream university, the University of Michigan where I doubled majored in Asian Studies and Japanese. I spent the last two years of college studying abroad in Nagoya, Japan and that time of my life was amazing, I was finally starting to regain a sense of who I was and some self-worth. That was quickly wiped out again when I had to return hope after graduation, but again I didn’t give up, I applied to any and all programs to teach English in Japan, at first, I heard nothing back, so I decided to expand my horizons to China since I just had to get away from my Mother. Within a week or two I was offered a job in Fenghuang Ancient Town, Hunan, China, and I jumped at the opportunity despite not knowing any Chinese what-so-ever. I packed what I could in my suitcases, said goodbye to my Father, sent my brother’s a text and headed off to start my new life.
When I first arrived, I was pretty sure I had stepped back in time, the beautiful little town looked like it was from the Ming Dynasty, it was like living out my childhood fantasy of being Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi. Adjusting to life there was difficult at first, I didn’t miss my life back in America but at the same time I didn’t speak a word of Chinese, I didn’t know a single person aside from the school’s principal and I was most certainly the first foreigner most of the village folks had ever laid eyes on which made navigating my new life a challenge to say the least. I gradually made friends with the other teachers and learned a few simple phrases to get by, but with the language barrier was difficult and often times lonely, or it was until he showed up. There was one person I met about three months after moving to Chine who turned my life upside down even more so than moving half-way across the world ever could, someone as it would turn out was what I had been missing my entire life. I was just starting to get comfortable with my life in China and was finally starting to go out and explore the city on the weekends and my days off, one day I was at my favorite street vendor picking up one of my favorite Chinese foods, cha siu bao, barbeque steamed pork buns. I was very proudly and very slowly counting out my change to the vendor, I say proudly because I was thrilled, I was getting familiar with the local currency; when an absolute behemoth of a man all but picked me up and set me aside while he threw money at the vendor and shouted something to him before ushering me towards the stools. That person turned out to be my now husband Bàixiòng.
I’ve written a couple different stories that are written as reader inserts but they’re basically an account of my relationship, the first is here and the second briefly touches on Bi-Han (Noob) coming into my life please note that both are extremely NSFW. The condensed version is Bàixiòng and I were together for about two years before getting really serious, I noticed him staying over more and more often, him slowly opening up about himself to me and finally starting to relax around me and even went so far as to introduce me to his younger brother. It was a few weeks after our two-year anniversary that he woke me up early, told me to call in sick and he dragged me to the Civil Affairs Bureau, and we were married. Three years later is when he left for the Mortal Kombat tournament and my life changed for the worst, I was alone again. That loneliness didn’t last forever though, but it definitely took its toll on me, I feel into a deep depression and despair and I pushed everyone away. Kuai Liang did his best to look after me during Bàixiòng’s absence but I wanted nothing to do with him, I was shut down entirely and couldn’t let anyone into my life, not even someone who was so close to my deceased husband. It was during one of Kuai Liang’s visits that a dark, shadowy, mysterious figured seeped into my apartment, much to my complete shock Bi-Han had returned to me but pardon my pun as a shadow of his former self. Getting to know and love Bi-Han was a much harder task and Bàixiòng, they are the same man, but they are entirely different at the same time. Bi-Han had been so thoroughly corrupted by Quan Chi’s magic he no longer knew what love was, what happiness was, what anything good was anymore, but I stayed by his side, convinced that somewhere deep down the man I loved dearly was still in there. I was wrong he wasn’t, but I came up with a new plan.
With Kuai Liang’s help I followed Bi-Han to the conflict with Kronika and stole her crown, I was able to use it as a bargaining chip to get back what I had lost, but at the same time I couldn’t abandon Bi-Han either. Despite all his shortcomings I still loved him in death just as dearly as I had loved him in life. I offered her the crown in return for her bringing Bàixiòng back from the dead as well as fixing Bi-Han’s appearance and restoring as much of his humanity she could, but even she couldn’t repair everything. Little did she know though, once I had what I wanted, Bi-Han and I double crossed her, Bi-Han took care of the titan and gave her crown to his younger brother to protect. Bàixiòng retired from the Lin Kuei and Bi-Han freed from Quan Chi entirely have pursued let’s say uh a freelance career, Bàixiòng often does personal training and martial arts classes as a cover up but he and Bi-Han are still very much assassins for hire, but it’s on their terms now not the Grandmaster’s. Since then things have been a wonderful but sometimes crazy rollercoaster as Bàixiòng and Bi-Han learn to share and I learn to navigate having two extremely arrogant, demanding husbands, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I did it, guys! THE WEDDING!
That’s Edward’s wedding…but the only thing I can think about is just LOOK AT THEM!!
“Are you ready for this?” I AMMMM!!!!
Jean underlying to Susan the surprise of being invited...she has this talent of saying what she’s thinking with such conviction but without being unpleasant... I just adore her!
Patrick ‘s speech and the not so subtle remarks toward Edward, I wouldn’t expect any less from him. He’s always been very objective, I think even with his own son. He’s protected him enough, now it’s time he takes his own responsibilities.
Lucien wants to leave...let’s face it, who would want to be there? At the wedding of someone who’s hurt you and your family so much and so recently nonetheless?
Oh great...a fight at a wedding...now they can leave! Thank god!
Look at Lucien being so very attentive and taking Jean’s hand and asking her to be careful because there’s glass all over  the floor
Tumblr media
OMG Edward’s dead! I didn’t expect that!
In the meantime Lucien’s aunt has a favour to ask, but he doesn’t seem very inclined to help her found her niece...”I’m dying”, she says and Lucien’s face speaks for him...he cannot refuse her, can he now? Because he can be reckless, but he has a heart of gold.
Wow there’s a flash back! I love this! Aww Lucien, poor boy...“that’s enough” my heart is broken
Great now, he’s obviously going to the crime scene even though he’s not the police surgeon, anymore. Do we care about it? No, because let’s face it he’s the one who will solve the case!
Hahahah the famous Dr. Wallace...well, Lucien was right what an incompetent !  Matthew’s face, though when he asks about the cause of death...
Searching in a fountain full of blood...typical Lucien!
Dr Wallace and Alice at the morgue. She is behaving just like we would expect her to do with Dr Blake but the new police surgeon calls her “Miss Harvey” ...how dare he! .... “it’s Dr Harvey”...I love this woman!
Patrick asking Lucien for help and discussing his son’s murder was bittersweet...I couldn’t understand his character at first, now I’ve come to appreciate him.
Matthew defending Alice so fiercely and giving  apiece of his mind to Dr Wallace...great scene!
In the kitchen Jean and Rose are talking about her children and the wedding... I want to give Jean a big hug, right now!
Aww look at the lovebirds planning  to go to  Melbourne for wedding shopping ...I can hardly wait!
Lucien is so sweet...he wants to stay at the bridal shop with her...“it’s bad luck” and we wouldn’t want anything to happen before the wedding... thank you very much! Now Lucien go!
The shop assistant referring to Jean as “The mother of the bride”...what?! thank your lucky stars that Lucien is not there to hear you!
Ohhh look who’s back! Danny! (can he call the Doc “uncle Lucien” just once? please!)
Jean chastising Lucien for not having checked Catherine’s address...she knows how to get his attention, though and I had the time of my life!
Wherever he goes he finds a dead body and he almost breaks his neck in the process..obviously!
Lucien being reinstated as police surgeon..that was Patrick’s doing, wasn’t it?
Patrick and Jean talking in the sunroom...I enjoy their conversations. He thinks so very highly of her and of Lucien, too probably (even if he doesn’t want to admit it) “you deserve to be happy!”  My heart!..... “we need these triumphs”...yes Patrick, thank you for saying it! We do! They’ve waited for so long!
So now after the rather unpleasant chat at the pub with the father of the bride he’s being followed...that was scary, eh?
What?! Another dead body? Mr Dunne and it cannot be Patrick’s fault...ohh poor Cec, he’s in shock!
And now Patrick is in jail..what an annoying lawyer and Bill has definitely improved his skills..not only his fists for once!
Lucien pleading Patrick to rest and talk to his wife (Lucien is definitely getting better at this...I hope he’ll do the same with Jean) ohh Patrick the dialogue “sooner or later we all just become our fathers”, the look on Lucien’s face...goosebumps!
And Lucien going home and taking that clock from the chest...I love these flash backs, even though they are  so heartbreaking (probably that’s why I like them)...poor little boy! He wasn’t even allowed a last hug to his father...how awful is that?! And later at the Colonists’ Club with aunt Dorothy talking about his father’s past and how their family had disapproved of Genevieve and later how they tried to make amends, but the betrayal was already too much for Thomas...
Lucien’s insecurities come to the surface, finally in his brief exchange with Matthew...“what if I don’t deserve her?”. He’s definitely putting her first, her needs, her dreams, her desires, what if he isn’t capable of being what/whom she deserves? She is the most important thing to him, now and he wants to be the right man for her. As Matthew reminds him, that man she deserves is something he already is, the best version of Lucien Blake. She doesn’t want him to be something he is not, but he owes it  to her... to be the best version of himself.
Seeing Patrick in that car and Lucien’s reaction to his death was too much and his struggle in wanting to find someone responsible for his death, because he can’t accept that “sometimes people just die”...but in the end he has to come to terms also to this and it’s so very difficult.
He ends up talking with Jean because she’s always listened to him, even when he was the “ghost” of the man he is now and he knows that there’s no one else he could go to and tells her how he met Patrick, his first impression of him. And both have tears in their eyes, and he knows what he is about to ask,  “Jean, my darling....I think we may have to postpone the wedding”, but she insists on Patrick’s last words to her and despite what they are both feeling they decide to go on with their wedding plans.
And now are they discussing their sleeping arrangements with Rose? The bedrooms are small? Yeah...we all get that!
Ohh Lucien your Jean is really a true marvel, she helps with both cases in the end...so smart!
There’s something about this scene of Lucien and Jean in front of the fireplace that really makes it a marvel to watch. I don’t know what it is, the lights, the acting, the writing...probably everything. These bits of their pasts they reveal to one another are precious moments...here Lucien trusts Jean so much that he isn’t afraid of telling her about his engagement and subsequent marriage with Mei Lin, and clearly he’s admitting to her that in the end he made the same choices his father did. He married a “foreign girl” in spite of his family and naturally, when faced with that, at the time, they both said things to one another they could not get back. But then he finds and reads Thomas’ letter to him, a letter he sent back, like all the others his father sent...well I couldn’t stop crying here and that line in which he said that he hoped his son would find someone who loved him “...regardless of what happened next”. A line in which Thomas uses more or less the same words Lucien himself spoke to Jean in season 3...I just can’t. And confessing that he had hated his father for a very long time and his fear of becoming like him...but that coming back to Ballarat was probably the best thing ever happened to him!
Tumblr media
I could  have never imagined Roslyn to be the murderer, but what really  struck me was Lucien’s speech once again. Telling her how the only thing she had ever wanted was her father’s love and to hear him say he was sorry (the same things Lucien wanted from his father, and that in the end were the thing Thomas wrote to him, but that he never got the chance to know...until he read that letter the night before).
And then...well...when one thinks she’s ready to see the wedding....I mean...we’ve waited for so long!
I’VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING MORE BEAUTIFUL IN MY LIFE! Jean is radiant and so stunning! I’m so glad she’s wearing a white dress! I love it and she looks lovely in it!
The way his voice falters when he says his vows, Jean’s certainty when she speaks hers, the kiss... and then Doctor and Mrs. Blake are dancing together and he kisses her on the cheek and that wedding band his sparkling so much...
Tumblr media
And then you think you’ve already cried enough, but nooooooo they come back 4 months later (4 months? What kind of honeymoon was that exactly?!) and he opens the car door and you think it’s sweet, but then ohh then he just says “Mrs Blake” and  you start sobbing once again.
And then she is popping the kettle on, but he can’t keep his hands (or lips) to himself and they’re kissing again and you are just there grinning like a fool. Matthew Lawson has just been promoted to “the new telephone” and really they can’t even have 5 minutes to themselves because obviously as soon as they set foot on Australian soil, someone  drops dead...but the end ohhh the end...he comes back and has to kiss her again and then “I love you” and I’m just sobbing again...forever!
Tumblr media
The last thing I have to say before I let you go is that I’m so thankful for all of you and I want to thank you all for your support, for having “travelled” with me until now and for the best welcome I’ve ever had.
Now I can really really say it, “The Doctor Blake Mysteries” has the best writing, the best acting and setting I’ve ever seen!

Chapter 14: Maybe It Wasn’t Meant to Be Author’s Note: Wow, I couldn’t believe all the comments I got on the last chapter! You guys are absolutely wonderful and I’m sorry for that twist. I hope these last few chapters make up for it!
Summary: Lin and Tenzin deal with the aftermath of pregnancy loss and decide to return home to get some schedule and routine back in life.
Lin spends the rest of the week in isolation. Tenzin tries to be there for her as much as possible, but also needs some time to himself. They're both trying to sort through the feelings they have after this very traumatic experience. Luckily, Lin's body was recovering,  but her and Tenzin’s emotions still needed some time. The two spent most of their time together holding hands, not wanting to let the other stray too far. Never in their wildest dreams did they ever think they would find themselves in the situation. They both felt very unprepared for how to continue to move forward. Zuko suggested that Lin share what happened to her in the park in order to help sort out her feelings. Tenzin was reclining on the bed, his back leaned against the headboard while he held Lin in his arms between his legs. Her head was resting on his chest and she could hear his heart beating as she began to share what happened that day.
“After watching Izumi give birth, I was honestly a little traumatized. No one has ever really described what it's like to deliver a baby to me. I know how it all works, but I didn't realize all of the hard work and pain and suffering that went in to bring new life into this world. I got scared and I needed time to myself.”
“You're very right. Nobody really talks about what happens when a woman gives birth,” Tenzin agreed.
“And since we were expecting…” Lin stopped herself from continuing, thinking about all of the things that could have been.
“It's understandable, Lin. You don't have to say it if you don't want to.”
She nodded and continued, “You stopped me in the hallway to talk, but I wasn't ready.  You respected my personal space and let me go sort through my feelings before we talked,  which I appreciated. I really didn't know where I was headed because I was lost in my own world and then I ended up in the park and before I knew it, someone hit me and blocked my chi and I was unable to move and defend myself.” Tears were now flowing freely down her cheeks as she remembered the events in the park.
“I wish we knew why,” Tenzin told her, his own tears falling.
“All the man said was that in order for the Fire Nation to be glorious again, the Airbenders needed to stay extinct,” she said through gritted teeth. Tenzin was shocked by her explanation. He could not fathom why someone would want an entire culture to be wiped off the face of the Earth, especially not the culture that he and his father had been working to restore for the last two decades or more.
“I’m sorry, Tez. But I couldn’t do anything to stop him,” Lin tried to frantically explain, “He paralyzed me with the chi blocking and even though I saw everything, I couldn’t do anything…” She was openly sobbing now, her whole body shaking.
Tenzin looked down at his wife and wiped a tear away. He put his hand under her chin and nudged it so she was looking him in the eye. “Lin, I am not mad at you. I don't blame you for any of this. Absolutely none of this is your fault. That man is absolutely horrible and I hope he gets the justice he deserves in the end.”
“But I couldn't protect the baby or myself. If only I had stayed within the palace walls everything could be different now.”
“Lin, we cannot change the past so it does not do well to dwell on it. What happened happened and wishing we could go back and change things isn't going to help us now.”
She sighed, “You have a point. I still can’t help to blame myself a little bit. I just feel terrible about what happened and I don't know if I could ever face your dad again.”
“I know there was a lot of hope for our baby. A lot of people had expectations for him or her, but none of that matters right now.”
“But your father isn't getting any younger,” she tried to argue.
“None of us are. And people will just need to learn how to be patient,” he rebutted.
“But what if...”  she hesitated, worried about his reaction to her idea.
“What if?” he jostles her in his arms a little, urging her to continue.
She sighs and rests her hand on his chest alongside her head and continues, “What if I don’t want to try to have another baby, like ever? Because honestly, I don’t know if I could go through this again. And I know how important having a family is to you and your dad’s legacy. I don’t want to keep you in a relationship with me if we don’t have the same goals in life. I can’t deny the world the next generation of airbenders.” She closes her eyes bracing herself for his reaction.
Tenzin thought for a moment. He knew his duty to his father was to carry on his legacy of restoring the Air Nation. However, he also said sacred vows in the front of his friends and family, promising to love and cherish his beautiful wife for the rest of his life. He also absolutely loves the woman in his arms and he knew he would until the day he died. Nothing, not duty, not family, not enemies could ever prevent him from loving Lin with his entire spirit. He would do absolutely anything for her and he was willing to sacrifice everything for her.
“Lin, the only people in our relationship are me and you, no one else. We are the only two people who can dictate what we do with each other and with our lives. We also swore a vow to love and cherish each other for our entire lives. I love you and there is absolutely nothing or no one who will ever stop me from loving you and standing by your side.”  He bent forward as she rose up a little bit and the two shared a deep kiss.
“I love you too,” she breathed.
“Good,” he smiled down at his beautiful wife, “I’m glad we’re on the same page.”
“Are you sure, though?” She insisted.
“Yes, my love. You are mine and I am yours for the rest of forever.” For the first time since the incident, Lin was able to smile back at her husband thanks to his words of assurance.
After another week passed, Lin and Tenzin were ready to depart the Fire Nation and return home to Republic City after their long honeymoon. Their bags had been packed and Oogi had been saddled, all that was left was to say goodbye to their friends. Fire Lord Zuko and Daichi were standing with the couple in the courtyard of the palace.
“I’m sure Izumi will be here any minute,” Daichi assured his friends.
“Well, thank you for all your hospitality, Zuko,” Tenzin bowed respectfully to the Fire Lord.
“You are both welcome here any time,” Zuko assured him, bowing back, then grabbing Tenzin in a hug.
“Thank you for everything,” Lin said, hugging Daichi then Zuko.
“Would you like one of us to send word if we find anything new about the man from the park?” Zuko asked hesitantly. Tenzin looked at Lin, signaling he would be fine with whatever she wanted.
Lin replied, “Yes. When I get back to work with Republic City PD, I may even use some of our resources to see if I can find anything as well.”
“Okay, just remember ‘Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel, you can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving, you will come to a better place,” Zuko offered.
Tenzin smiled, “That was one of your uncle’s lines wasn’t it?”
Zuko smiled back, but there seemed to be a hint of sadness in his, then replied, “Yes it was. Uncle Iroh always knew what to say for every occasion to make me feel better. I just try to continue that for him and for the people I love.” Lin threw her arms around Zuko again and stifled a sob. When they broke apart, Tenzin wrapped an arm around his wife and kissed her forehead. Just then, Izumi appeared, walking as quickly as possible without disturbing the sleeping baby in her arms. She looked a little frazzled and very tired.
“Please, no sudden movements or loud noises,” she begged in a whisper, “Baby Iroh just went back to sleep and I started dozing when one of my maids reminded me you two were leaving.”
“Do you want me to take my grandson?” Zuko offered.
“I can take him back to the room, Izumi,” Daichi offered at the same time. Izumi looked relieved to have such an amazing support system.
“Okay, sure,” she handed the baby off to its father then turned to give her best friend a big hug.
“I’m sorry for everything,” Izumi whispered in her friend’s ear. “I wish you nothing but the best from here on out because you deserve only the best.” Lin squeezed her friend a little tighter in response.
“Thank you,” she whispered back. She turned to Daichi who was holding the still sleeping baby. She leaned forward and Daichi tilted the baby so she could get a better look.
“He is absolutely precious,” Lin told her friend, “I am so happy for you.” She smiled, genuinely at her friend. Izumi’s eyes were starting to tear up, but she wiped them away hastily, not wanting to cause her friends anymore pain.
“Thank you,” Daichi said for his wife while she gathered herself, “We’re very happy to have him and can’t wait to see what kind of person he grows up to be.”
“Well, he’s got some great examples to show him how to be an excellent person,” Tenzin complimented them.
“Thank you again for everything,” Lin said to the trio of Fire Nation royalty.
“I hope we can see each other again, soon,” Izumi told her friends.
“We’ll start planning our next get together once we’re back home,” Lin assured her.
“Goodbye everyone,” Tenzin said, waving at the group while he grabbed his wife bridal style and hopped onto Oogi. The flying bison took off on command and started carrying the couple back home to Republic City.
“Are you ready to be home?” Tenzin asked his wife after some time up in the air.
She shrugged, “I don’t know. I think I’m ready to get back to some sort of routine and normalcy. I think it will help with the recovery.”
“I sense a ‘but’ coming,” Tenzin joked.
Lin rolled her eyes, “Yes, but, I’m nervous about what the media is going to do. I mean, they were all over my pregnancy once word got out. I hope the same doesn’t happen about the incident.”
Tenzin looked thoughtful for a moment then told her, “Well, we could always just say forget it and go on another vacation.”
Lin smiled at her husband, “I guess it does pay to have our own personal flying bison to take us wherever we want whenever we want.”
“Oogi does come in rather handy at times,” Tenzin agreed.
“Anyway, there is something I’ve been looking forward to regarding our homecoming,” she shared.
“Oh really? What’s that?”
“Being married to you,” she said cheesily, leaning close to her husband and kissing him.
Tenzin hummed into the kiss, then replied, “Yes, being married to you is the best part of our homecoming. Will you let me carry you into the threshold of our home when we arrive?”
“Only if you promise to carry me straight to bed, undress me immediately, and spend our first few hours home making love,” she declared.
“Well that could be arranged if we delay seeing our family for dinner when we get back,” he thought aloud.
“I could wait to eat. Besides, another kind of hunger is a little more pressing right now,” she admitted.
“We don’t have to wait to fulfill that,” Tenzin told her, leaning over her, causing her to lie flat in the saddle.
“What happened to not wanting to give Oogi the oogies?” she reminded him.
“If you promise to be quiet, I don’t think he’ll know the difference,” Tenzin whispered. Lin was about to laugh, but it was cut off by a deep, passionate, open mouthed kiss that Tenzin had started. She opened her mouth in return, allowing his tongue to move around her mouth. When Tenzin pulled away, he saw Lin’s eyes had darkened, her pupils going large as she stared at the man she loved.
Tenzin smiled down at her, “You are absolutely beautiful and I love that you are mine.” She smiled back, then pulled him down to continue their kissing. Tenzin moved from her mouth and planted kisses all along her jaw, moving down her neck, pausing at her cleavage. He quickly untied the dress she had been wearing and started to kiss her breasts. His mouth covered one nipple, sucking gently, while his hand moved to the other, rubbing and squeezing it. Lin moaned at his touch and Tenzin grew harder thinking about how turned on his wife was.
“It’s getting a little chilly up here,” Lin said between heavy breaths, “And it’s no fair that I’m partially nude and you’re still fully dressed.”
“I want to take my time with you, love,” he told her, “Be patient and you’ll be fulfilled.” “I don’t want to be patient right now,” she whined, “I want you in me.”
Tenzin smiled at his wife, “As you wish.” He quickly tugged his pants down, exposing his erect cock. Lin moved the skirt of her dress out of the way and spread her legs a little wider, allowing Tenzin to kneel comfortably between them. Tenzin licked his two fingers on his hand and inserted them into Lin. She was already so wet and he didn’t want to wait any longer either. He knew he could take his time with her, make proper love to her when they got back to Republic City. Out here, flying over the ocean on his sky bison, after the tragedy that had occurred in the Fire Nation, Lin needed him as much as he needed her. She needed Tenzin to express his love in a physical way that he hasn’t been able to in a couple weeks. Tenzin was not going to deny his wife this reassurance and quickly slid his cock inside of her. She immediately started rocking her hips before he was even in all the way. He tried his best to match her erratic rhythm, holding his release until he felt her walls quiver and clench around him.
After they both climaxed, Tenzin lay down next to his wife, the two of them breathing heavily. Tenzin lazily slid his pants back on as Lin wrapped her dress back around herself. Once they were both covered, Tenzin reached for his wife to snuggle closer. Lin obliged and scooted to him, resting her head in the crook of his arm while he draped the other over her waist.
“I love you, Lin. In this life and the next.”
“I love you too, Tenzin, always.”
A/N: I hope after the fluff and smut of this chapter, you can forgive me for breaking your hearts in the previous one. As always, please like/give kudos, comment, share with fellow Linzin shippers. I start work again tomorrow, but I’m so close to finishing this fic and hope to wrap it up within the month!

so like...what firsts do YOU think lucien gave jean? and did jean give him any firsts?
This is such a good question, and I loved @gabolange‘s answer, not just for the thoughts on Jean’s sexual life but also for how the answer opens:
“First airplane. First trip outside Australia. First truly fancy dinner. First expensive lingerie. First set of checks she could write and always know they would clear. First washing machine.“
Yes! Hot damn! All of that!! I want to cosign that.
Moving on to my interpretation, then -
I want to say: first dream come true. Jean’s had a lot of dreams in her life, but she’s had a lot of disappointments, too. She never got her daughter, her husband never came home from the war, she never got to see the world (before Lucien). She lost the farm. She had dreams for her boys, every mother would, and while Christopher has grown into a stable, respectable young man - one who found a love sincere enough for him to buck against his mother’s prejudices and expectations, a love so strong that he defends his wife in the face of his mother’s disapproval, a love that matters to him so much he spends an entire episode on the verge of fisticuffs with various people because he just wants to call her - he’s still a soldier, which I feel certain Jean never wanted him to be, and their relationship is perhaps not as warm as she would have hoped, once. And Jack...well, no mother dreams of a son like Jack, or a future like his for her children. I’ve often wondered if, when Mei Lin showed up, Jean felt as if she weren’t meant for happiness at all, as if every attempt she had made to grab hold of it was predestined to end in failure. As if that is simply her lot in life. But. She gets Lucien, in the end. Her dream comes true - she gets to marry him, to be his wife, achieves that dream she’s longed for. And ghost stories, while beautifully made and acted, never happened bye.
I have written Jean experiencing oral for the first time with Lucien before. I’m not not particularly dedicated to that being a gospel truth of their relationship, however. Like gabolange said, it would be unnecessarily cruel to assume that Jean’s experience with sex is limited or unfulfilling, and I don’t think the text supports that premise. I have never interpreted Jean’s words about Christopher and her life before Lucien to mean that Christopher was anything less than a good husband to her. And sex, good sex, fun sex, sex with someone you love, and know intimately, and have had sex with many times - as it would be with Jean and Christopher - isn’t about what you know going into it, or what you’ve been taught; it’s about what you uncover together. And I think Christopher and Jean uncovered plenty.
And what I think is more fun, then, what is so meaningful and beautiful to me, is not the idea of Lucien being the first person to introduce Jean to oral, but the first time they did it together. The first time they do each of these things - hug, properly, kiss, touch, fuck in various ways and locations - may not be the first they’ve ever done those things in their lives, but it’s the first time they do them with each other, and that is so special, and so beautiful. So I think they have a million firsts, in the bedroom and out of it, together.
As for what Jean gave to Lucien; I think she was maybe the first person who gave him acceptance. In the beginning she is not particularly accepting towards him at all, wanting to force him into the box of her expectations, but she grows across the series, and the way their relationship grows with her is beautiful. By the time they’re married she knows this man. She has seen him drunk, and weeping, and broken, seen him vengeful and compassionate, seen him on top of the world solving a case and seen him getting it so, so wrong. And by the time they’re married, she isn’t asking him to be anything other than what he is. Lucien has felt turned away by his father, and his political beliefs and some of the things he has said make me wonder if he felt out of place in the Army, too. Mei Lin is such a fascinating character, but we know so little about her. What we do know is that she came from an important family, one to whom appearances mattered. She is refined in a very particular, society kind of way. She begs him to leave Ballarat (which like, can’t fault her for that, I wouldn’t want to stay there if I were her, either), never quite seems to understand who he is now, and she certainly doesn’t seem to want it. Which makes me wonder, how much of their relationship was predicated on appearances and expectations, before. I think they loved one another, truly, but Lucien has grown so much in the time they were apart, and I have often wondered what a younger, pre-imprisonment Lucien must have been like. If he was more arrogant, more wild, more...just more. And maybe Mei Lin doesn’t want to see the changes, doesn’t want to see his weakness, his grief, his vulnerabilities; maybe it brings up too many bad memories. Maybe it is too different from the way it was before. With Jean, he can be honest, he can be vulnerable, he can be less than perfect, and she loves him anyway, for all that his is. She is his home, now, a safe place for him to land. She sees him, and she holds out her arms to him, anyway.
But perhaps you’re looking for more solid answers than that? I think Lucien gave Jean her first real diamonds. I think Jean gave Lucien his first hand-knitted jumper. I think Lucien gave Jean her first trip to the opera, and I think Jean gave Lucien his first proper lessons in gardening. I think Lucien gave Jean her first night out at jazz club, and I think Jean was the first person to touch the scars on his back with tenderness, even if the scars are an entirely fanon fabrication you can pull them out of my cold dead hands, I’m certain they’re real at this point.
Now, anon, come back and tell me what firsts you think they gave to one another.
