Life is wild sometimes. I made a small decision almost a year ago, based on a recommendation of one of the most positive individuals to ever grace my life so far, and I firmly believe that it has changed the course of my life. The decision was to sign up for a class about fantasy writing and publishing that my university was offering, which is the exact genre I so desperately want to have a career in (I want to be a writer you see). That fall I took the 8 week class and it happened to be taught by none other than the absolutely wonderful, utterly amazing fantasy author Alex Rowland (aka @ariaste). If you asked myself or any of my peers, we will happily tell you that this class was one of the comfiest, kindest, most encouraging academic experiences we have ever had and that it has changed our lives. Anyone who has taken at least one creative writing class in their life will tell you of the horrors that ruthlessly plague them and all sorts of traumatic incidents endured. This class was a soothing balm to a disheartened soul with trampled ambitions. You might be wondering where I'm going with this? Well, when you take a class with an author, they tend to gush rather happily about their work. It did not take long for me to know in my heart of hearts that I NEEDED to get my hands on Alex's latest book, A Taste of Gold and Iron (aka ATOGAI). And when I finally got the perfect chance to read it a little over a month ago, when I tell you, it was chapter five when I became undeniably aware that this book had snatched my heart and I would gladly let it have it for the rest of my life. If I hadn't already bought all of Alex's books on a strong hunch that I would absolutely, completely and utterly fall in love with ATOGAI, I would have definitely right after I finished that chapter. This is inarguably one of the best books I have ever read, checking all my boxes (including ones I didn't even know I had). I don't think it's possible to praise it enough because it deserves it all. The wait I endured before I could read it was so worth it and I will be forever grateful for the sheer chance that it and it's author entered into my life. It shattered my high expectations and I will never be the same and couldn't be happier about it. Now, I still have to read the other books that Alex has written (and I will savor them like a piece of the finest of desserts and I haven't the slightest doubt, despite that I tend to be more on the quiet side, I will be absolutely mouthing off about them to anyone who will listen), but I want to specifically highlight their upcoming book, Running Close to the Wind (aka RCW). Because I was in their class and a part of their Discord, I have been treated to several chapters of the book and I can very firmly tell you that you need this in your life. It's terribly funny, utterly vibrant, very queer, full of gremlin chaos and pirate shenanigans, all good and wonderful things, right? I knew I needed it in my life half way through Alex reading chapter two to us. It comes out in June of this year and I so highly recommend you give it a look see. You can read an excerpt in the link below!
And if you too decide that you need this book in your life, go preorder it and then come join a Discord full of awesome queer pocket people that are also terribly excited for this book to be in our hands! I will also be posting fanart of ATOGAI and RCW if you also want to keep an eye on this little habitat of mine. :) Either way, best wishes and happy reading!

Upcoming in 2024: Icarus
Tumblr media
Icarus Gallagher is a thief. He steals priceless art and replaces it with his father’s impeccable forgeries. For years, one man—the wealthy Mr. Black—has been their target, revenge for his role in the death of Icarus’s mother. To keep their secret, Icarus adheres to his own strict rules to keep people, and feelings, at bay: Don’t let anyone close. Don’t let anyone touch you. And, above all, don’t get caught. Until one night, he does. Not by Mr. Black, but by his mysterious son, Helios, now living under house arrest in the Black mansion. Instead of turning Icarus in, Helios bargains for something even more dangerous—a friendship that breaks every single one of Icarus’s rules. As reluctance and distrust become closeness and something more, they uncover the bars of the gilded cage that has trapped both of their families for years. One Icarus is determined to escape. But his father’s thirst for revenge shows no sign of fading, and soon it may force Icarus to choose: the escape he’s dreamed of, or the boy he’s come to love. Reaching for both could be his greatest triumph—or it could be his downfall.
Icarus is a romantic queer retelling, set for release on March 26!

So there's this poetry collection I'm putting together....
It's titled they told me to name my demons, and contains one hundred poems, with seven prose pieces at the end. I've written ninety poems, some edited and some not, and four of the seven prose pieces.
Anyway, I'm looking for a combination of advice and assistance. One: are there any people who know things about newsletters/street teams who can advise me as to how to set up such a thing? And two: I'm looking for betareaders.
As my mental health is somewhat precarious at any given time, I do not currently have an ETA; however, when I've finished drafting them, I'll read through the collection as a whole and make notes on arrangement and ordering, remove any extraneous poems, fill in gaps and then set to work on editing the actual poetry. After that (or possibly during that process), I'll be seriously looking for people to read over the collection as a whole, and/or individual poems, to give feedback and advice, as well as more technical things like advice for cover, foreword, formatting and the like. I still have a long way to go, but I anticipate this getting to betareaders by the end of the year, if not before.
So if you're interested in being part of the group who works with me to produce this poetry collection as the best it can be (including simply people to promote it, later on in the process!) please reach out to me! I'd love a hand. I don't yet have a cover to show, but the two poems and the prose piece you can see below are examples of things that will show up in this book.
Please share this post, if you would, to help me!

"They Told Me To Name My Demons" is a collection of poetry exploring the intersection of faith, mental health and identity. Sometimes delving deep into the darker side of suicidality, unreality and self harm, this poetry collection nevertheless continues to remind the readers of the true reason for living: God, and how he has played a part in the author's life. Without God, there's no way I'd still be here.

I don’t know if anyone would be interested, but I’m having trouble coming up with ideas for creatures. I have plenty of animals already for my book, but I can’t pinpoint what I completely want. If anyone would like to help designing characters, character side animals, or any creatures in general for the book, please do comment, dm or ask me with art submissions, or even just suggesting combining animals, or suggesting deigns would be amazing!
I’m actually hopping to publish this book but I cant do that without patching the plot holes.
Anyone and any ideas are welcome. Gorey, scary, crazy combos, happy, sad. Dont matter to me.
Thanks for reading!
Anyone who helps will be mentioned in this post.
MENTIONS:

You know how they say not to judge a book by its cover? Well, this book is as pretty on the inside as it is on the outside! I absolutely adore it to pieces! It has taken its rightful place on my bookshelf alongside my first copy and other related books! And for fellow crow brained individuals who love pretty shiny things like myself, you should definitely keep an eye on June for the upcoming hilarious pirate novel "Running Close to the Wind" by the same fabulous author Alexandra Rowland! As they say, pirates always have a few pretty shiny things. 😉 Read an excerpt of it below!

Sometimes, when you've tried your best and things still don't improve, when there's no way out for you when you are truly alone and on your own; sometimes the best thing you can do is just pray that you'll make it, that you'll survive this without losing any more pieces of yourself.
