After the battle of Hogwarts
Narcissa: *visiting Andromeda for the first time in years*
Andromeda: *sitting with Teddy in her arms*
Narcissa: how are you doing?
Andromeda: why are you here? What do you want?
Narcissa: we all lost so so many and I regret so so much, but my biggest regret is, that I lost you. We can’t bring the others back, but I want you back.
Narcissa: Andy I missed you so much. I love you.
Andromeda: I wrote you, for years. Why are you here now?
Narciss: I was scared
Andromeda: Everyone I ever loved, everything I fought for, everyone I sacrificed everything for is gone! They‘re all dead!
Narciss: I lost everyone too. I- I lost the love of my life.
Andromeda: I know. Bella took her from you. But she also took my husband, my daughter and Sirius. She took them all! And all those years, you were on HER side!
Narcissa: I am so sorry. If I could change it, I would.
Andromeda: No. no you wouldn’t, you would do the same again. You‘re smart Cissa, but you‘re so so selfish. Please go.
Narcissa: Andy please-
Andromeda: Go.

Teddy Remus Lupin
“Ted! D’you mind helping me clear out the attic?” Andromeda Tonks yelled from the kitchen.
The taffy-haired boy slung his arm across her shoulders as he veered his grandmother towards the stairs. “Yeah, ‘course I’ll help, but what’s the occasion?”
“We haven’t enough rooms for guests.”
Teddy shrugged.
They made their way into the attic, a spacious cavern with cardboard boxes piled high along the perimeter.
Andromeda handed Teddy a cloth and a duster to arm himself with, and then set to work.
The pair removed the boxes and Teddy found numerous playthings and toys, all from his childhood.
“We can sterilise them and give them to Hermione. She is expecting, isn’t she.”
“Oh Ted,” Andromeda clapped her hands together, “that’s a lovely idea.”
Andromeda levitated the boxes downstairs, to pass on to the kids and what was unusable was to be donated.
They worked in tandem, occasionally pausing to rifle through obscure Black Family possessions and some of his grandfather’s muggle keepsakes. Teddy pocketed an interesting looking device – a Walkman, it said. He didn’t want it to end up in the Weasley bin and have Arthur fiddle with it.
The doorbell rang when they were halfway through. Teddy unloaded the last of his toys into a plastic bin, and jumped over miscellaneous trash to open the door.
“Hiya Ted!” Harry grinned.
And at the same time, Draco smiled, “Hello, Edward.”
“Hey guys!” He huffed a laugh, “How come you’re both here?”
“Surprise,” Harry ruffled his hair.
His uncle shook his head in disagreement, “Your knuckle-headed godfather must’ve forgotten that today was my turn to have you.”
“Did not!” Harry pressed an offended hand to his chest.
Draco rolled his eyes at Teddy and behind him Harry mouthed ‘kinda did’.
“Teddy! Who is it?”
“It’s just Draco and Harry, grandma,” Teddy yelled back.
“Where’s your grandmother?” Draco asked him, politely sidestepping the mess that had been levitated into the drawing room.
“We’re cleaning the attic, she didn’t want anyone sleeping on the couch, so.”
“We’ll help, let’s get your grandma out of that allergy box,” Harry clapped Teddy’s back.
“I’m allergic to dust,” Draco sniffed delicately.
Harry raised a brow, blinking in disbelief, “Could’ve fooled me when you followed me to the most cruddy places, Malfoy.”
“Aunt Andromeda! Let’s get that finished for you,” Draco marched ahead, neck growing pink below his mullet.
The three boys sent Andromeda down to bake her infamous biscuits, while they tidied the place.
“So, which one of us are you banishing to up here?” Draco asked, lifting his hands to levitate boxes downstairs.
“Can’t you just use your wand, you showoff?” Harry jested.
“I don’t have my wand on me Potter, and it’s not like you don’t know how to forgo using your wand.”
Teddy ignored the banter. “I’m actually thinking I’d like this place for myself.”
Harry pivoted on his foot, “That would be wicked.”
Draco lifted another box and was magicking that downstairs when he bumped into Harry and the things in the box came pouring out.
“I swear to fucking Merlin, Potter,” Draco began, as Harry moved away – hands raised in surrender, but Teddy accidentally interrupted him.
“What the hell is that?”
“Language,” Draco murmured absently, kneeling down as well.
There was a huge album, embossed RJ. Lupin, crammed to the brim with pictures.
“Wow,” Harry breathed, touching the cover reverently.
“That’s not…” Teddy looked up for confirmation. “That’s my dad’s.”
Draco hesitantly opened the book.
Inside were pictures Teddy had never seen before.
There were photographs of four young boys, round faced and bright eyed. Pictures of them wearing matching scarves, all of them bundled in one huge sweater, them sporting matching butterbeer ‘staches. Four boys doing absolutely everything together.
The tawny haired kid, despite the thin silvery scars on his knuckles, had the biggest smile on his face. He stared hard at it, trying to burn it into memory, swallowing the growing ball of heat in his throat.
“Dad,” Harry smiled sadly, tracing a photo of James Potter tackling Remus in a hug. “I used to hear that I looked exactly like him for all my life. I don’t anymore.”
The implication was obvious. Harry was now older than James had gotten to be.
“You still look very similar. He was a handsome man, your dad,” Draco rubbed Harry’s back consolingly.
“Calling me handsome, Malfoy?”
“Take it as you will.”
The next few snapshots were of Remus, Sirius and James. Heads bent over a huge piece of parchment, fitted smartly in dress robes, pie-faced on halloween, wearing Santa hats.
Then came another year.
Remus was visibly the tallest of the quartet. He had shot up severely, his face was more rugged, almost roguishly handsome. A shadow of stubble on his face, hardened jaw, a strong nose. He had shed the last shreds of childish innocence, to give way to a handsome young lad. But even still, his big amber eyes, even through pictures, were so kind. Love omnipresent in them.
Remus was shot studying, or gallivanting with his troop in all the photos. He was stooped over a wrinkly hand (Teddy wondered if it was Hope Lupin) painting the nails a pale pink. Remus was in the library, the kitchens, the astronomy tower, all after bed-time. Teddy felt relief bubble up in him, his father had had fun in his time at Hogwarts, no matter the circumstances.
Draco turned the page.
There were a lot of pictures of whom Harry identified as Sirius Black. The man had had an incredibly handsome youth. Beautiful grey eyes, long shiny hair, cuttingly high cheekbones. His complexion pallid, a shock against the ink black of his hair. His heart shaped face drew stop at a pointy chin.
Where Remus looked hardened, Sirius appeared delicate. The Black genes were strong, he recognised a lot of Andromeda in his grand-uncle.
“He was quite the looker,” Draco acknowledged.
Teddy noticed through the corner of his eye how Harry kept looking at Sirius and back at Draco. He also seemed to find the Black genes in a relative, just like Teddy had.
There was a picture of Sirius laughing at something a girl beside him was saying. The red-head had appeared in many photos as the boys grew.
“My mum,” informed Harry.
Sirius was captured sticking his tongue out at Peter, tackling James, hugging a few other friends. All candid. Teddy assumed it was his father taking these pictures.
More artistic shots of the Black family heir were also pasted in the album – Sirius teetering on the edge of a balcony, downing a glass of wine, holding his wand up in lumos, standing against a bike in a parking lot dressed in leather.
“That’s a whole lot of Sirius,” Teddy noted quietly.
And then they flipped another page. Remus – expertly blowing a smoke-ring.
A shocked laugh escaped Teddy, “Is he holding a cigarette?!”
“Your father and his friends were quite the troublemakers, don’t be fooled by all the pictures of them studying,” Harry laughed fondly.
Draco agreed, smiling, “He retained that streak for mischief. It’s what helped him cope, I suppose.”
There was a whole spread of shaken photographs, giving away that the person behind the camera was either inexperienced or a pureblood, possibly both. All the photos were of his father. Reading, drinking tea, rolling weed, dancing too.
“My father was so cool,” he realised.
“We’d have made good friends,” Draco mused. “Maybe in another life.”
“If your head were less inflated, maybe.”
“Shut up, Potter.”
Then there were photos of just Sirius and Remus together.
There was not a hair’s gap between them in that timeframe. Them in a music shop, pointing at a stack of records. Remus reading to Sirius. Remus, Peter and Lily Potter holding up a banner for their two quidditch boys. Sirius playing with Remus’ hair. Remus applying kohl on Sirius’ eyes. The two of them laying beside each other under the shade of a tree. Them laughing, smiling, even crying.
Them kissing.
“What.”
It was a very clear photo. Remus was kissing his best friend. They were stood in the middle of an empty apartment, cardboard boxes stacked high behind them.
“What the hell?” Teddy asked weakly, head spinning at this knowledge.
“Er…” Harry turned to Draco, who also seemed at a loss of words.
And then there were more. Teddy could see in their eyes the amount of love they had for each other. Absolute adoration.
“Oh my god,” Teddy gasped at the scandalous photo. Even Harry’s eyes bugged out.
The two men were clearly not dressed below their bed linens. Sirius had draped himself over Remus’ tan chest. Both of them sound asleep.
“Well, what can I say. Seems like they had fun and I respect that,” Draco shrugged, trying to appear unfazed, but there was a distinct flush on his skin.
The photos ended abruptly after a series of shots of the Potter family and themselves. That’s when the war took a toll on them.
They closed the album silently. The quietness extended till Teddy cleared his throat.
“So… my dad and Sirius had a thing?” He asked, trying to be casual.
“I didn’t know,” Harry said honestly. “But seems so, huh.”
“Mum did mention once that Sirius was a disgusting faggot. Now look, I am too,” Draco laughed.
“It’s not disgusting,” Teddy assured hastily. He had to say it aloud, he owed it to his father, his uncle.
Harry agreed vehemently. “It doesn’t matter!”
Draco smiled at them, “I know, but thanks Ted, Potter.”
Teddy moved the album into his own plastic bin, to keep it safe.
The trio turned their attention to the rest of the things spilled on the hardwood floor.
Teddy sifted through the heap.
There were envelopes with letters; unsent, he guessed. Thick stacks of postcards, all addressed to some town in Wales. There were other things, but he wouldn’t ever know the reason his father had kept them. Quidditch jerseys with POTTER and BLACK printed on the backs, broken rectangle glasses, some sort of muggle board game. Banners with Gryffindor painted onto it. Records of ABBA, Queen, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra – the covers of which had a small Love, Lily scrawled on them. Parchments of recipes, all signed in the end with Cheers, Pete.
“Oh Remus,” Harry sighed.
Teddy blinked back his tears.
This entire house held the life of his mother, and he loved that a lot. To be able to learn of her in her own childhood home. Teddy had inherited his mother’s ability to shape-shift. He was also a Hufflepuff like his mum.
He didn’t know what of him was Remus.
But McGonagall promised him that she saw a lot of Remus’ personality in him; in his driven attitude, snark, in his pranks and his extreme love for chocolates and tea and sweets. She always smiled at him with pride and a tinge of reminiscence.
Teddy’d had nothing materialistic of his father, whose life even Andromeda knew only from the two years shared in Hogwarts. And he was suddenly gifted with more of his father’s post mortem possessions than he knew what to do with, but he’d keep them safely, he’d protect all of what was left of Remus.
Teddy ran his fingers along the edge of a photo frame. The picture inside was unlike those in the album, it was definitely a magicked one. Sirius was kissing the corner of Remus’ mouth, whose lips were stretched into a wide smile. The photo cut off right when the boys began to crack up.
“He was happy. He was in pain every month, but still so happy.”
“Ted,” Harry raised his head up. “Your dad loved you to pieces. He went through a lot, but he found people to love, and you were one of them.”
Draco affirmed this with a silent nod.
Teddy knew that, of course. In his room, in glass frames were pictures of him as a child, being held by his parents. Remus was obviously ecstatic, staring lovingly at the little cherub in his arms. Teddy didn’t doubt for a second that his father loved him. It was visible. Just as it was in his pictures with Sirius.
Teddy gathered all of the things and carefully placed them in his box, to keep in his room and to go through them leisurely.
They cleaned the attic in record time, when the smell of Andromeda’s baking wafted up and tickled their noses.
She distributed teacups and placed a platter of cookies on the teapoy.
“Grandma,” Teddy began hesitantly after they settled on the sofa.
“Yes?”
“Tell me about my dad and Sirius? Please?”
She froze midway pouring Harry a cuppa. “How did you–?”
“Remus had an album,” Draco explained softly, apologetic. “Evidence is plentiful.”
She laughed a little to herself, “Oh, of course. He had a habit of preserving all kinds of bits and bobs, your dad.”
Teddy sat up curiously. “Why?”
“I think he believed that if he didn’t have a memory of it, it didn’t exist. Things were always ripped away from him…”
It became solemn.
“So, did Sirius introduce you to Remus ever?” Draco sipped his tea.
Andromeda got a faraway look in her eyes, “It was the first time Remus had entered this house. Hand in hand with my cousin, who had been cut off and disowned then. He was the only one I trusted with Sirius’ heart. My cousin had grown up without love, but Remus was so patient and loving. And I’m certain Sirius was also the same.”
“Dad loved him, didn’t he?”
His grandmother smiled, wistful at the edges. “The two of them were the closest I will believe of soulmates. Opposites in many things but united in their values, experiences and such. He loved my Dora a lot, truly, but him and Sirius were like a house on fire.
“Even to an onlooker, they made an interesting pair. Where James and Sirius were the obvious duo, Remus and Sirius had a different dynamic built on very similar behaviours. Both stubborn, loyal to a fault, smart; even the childhood they experienced was riddled with guilt, shame, trauma. And where you could tell how much of a brother James was to Sirius, Remus meant to him very differently, and it showed.”
Harry had polished off his tea. “They deserved a happier ending…”
“Life owed them at least that,” Andromeda agreed sadly.
“Maybe they will meet again. The cycle of intertwined lives never end when two people are in love,” Draco leaned against Harry’s shoulder, unaware.
Teddy prayed silently that wherever his father was, he had gotten to meet his friends again. He hoped Sirius and Remus would get another chance at experiencing life together.
The dog star shone bright, in the night sky, beside the moon.

Teddy Lupin fic rec:
De la A a la Z: el auror Lupin by MissDBlack22 on ao3 (chapter 3)
This fic is in Spanish but I believe ao3 can translate the page, if needed. I wanted to share this fic because even though it’s a small drabble, I can still feel the pain in my heart in the scene that’s shown. Especially the last sentence 😭
Summary of ch 3: Teddy Lupin and his Grandma Andromeda Black Tonks visit the cemetery.
Excerpt that broke my heart:
¿Cómo podría extrañar algo que nunca había tenido?
Translation: How could I miss something I'd never had?
Please check out this fic, and be sure to leave a kudo and a comment!

🌿“the absence of chaos” Coming: 2 May 2023 🌿
a post-war, canon-divergent fic following harry & ginny immediately after the battle of hogwarts.
spoiler: harry & ginny aren’t a thing yet in this au, so hold onto your bittersweet-longing pants, it’s gonna be an emotional ride.
summary:
he’s seventeen and the most unbelievable weight has just been lifted off his shoulders. his job is done, it ended in depths of a dark forest beside the ghosts of the people he loved most and somehow he’s still here and has to figure out how to be here.
he’s seventeen and trying to figure out how to get out of bed everyday. how to find the courage to fight the nightmares that still leave him breathless and to raise the little boy whose hair is still bubblegum pink. how to tell the girl that’s become one of his best friends that he’s in love with her.
he’s seventeen and just wants to live. to stay up all night to laugh beneath the stars instead of be chased beneath them. to figure out who he wants to be and what he’s supposed to do with this life.
and while at some point many years from now - all would be well - he can’t see that just yet. he can’t see that beyond the chaos a garden will grow and that while of all of their joy may be intertwined with sorrow. that there is hope, that there always was - and always will be.
🌿 sneak peak of chaos 🌿
11 August 1998
“Every morning at daybreak he came back and ripped up weeds. These tough angry, thorny plants that had long ago taken over the garden beds and choked out the lovely things that once grew in their place. He sweat and he bled and he began looking forward to it. He wasn’t digging graves anymore and the smell of earth on his hands no longer made him feel like he couldn’t breathe. He was digging gardens and for such a simple, ordinary thing it helped and the fact that it helped gave him hope.
Hope still felt unpredictable. Sometimes it felt so bright, so close. Like when Teddy sleeps peacefully in his arms or when he wakes from a night without the dreams that leave him breathless and terrified. And other times, when the sound of the blade brings him back to the sea or when the soil clings to bitter memories on the back of his hand and his throat aches and he just wants to fucking scream, it’s all he can do to breath. “You can’t keep it in,” Andromeda said, “It’s okay to scream.” So sometimes he does, turns his wand on himself and it’s silent. Just a man pounding his fist into the dirt, with hot tears pouring down his face and it helps. And then he keeps digging. He breathes through the pain and rage and guilt and focuses on the fact that while there’s somethings he can’t fix, there are some he can and vows that he will.”
🌿 can’t wait to post the first chapters!! excited/nervous af to share this story with you all. this is my first fic and really the first bit of fiction I’ve written in like fifteen years. i’ve been working on it since last summer and it’s honestly been the most fun I’ve had since I was a kid. see ya on ao3 soon!

If You Could See Me Now
Part 2 - Teddy
Tumblr media
Teddy first asked about his father when he was four. He asked Harry if he was his dad since he spent so much time with him other than his gran. And the only person he knew who spent time with a kid was Bill Weasley who was always there with his daughter Victoire. Harry was silent for a good ten seconds before saying no. He showed Teddy pictures of Remus and Tonks that day. Teddy has seen those pictures before. His gran has shown them to him but he never questioned who they were. Teddy decided that he liked the woman's style more. She was more colourful and what did a kid like more than colours?
James was born when Teddy was seven. That day he cried like no other. His gran held him tight but couldn't answer why little James had both of his parents but Teddy didn't. She can't possibly tell a kid about a bloody war. She only kept whispering that they didn't want to, they had to. But it did nothing to calm the seven-year-old.
Teddy was nine when he asked his gran if his parents left because they didn't like him. She told him no, that they loved him so much but Teddy couldn't believe her. He must have done something wrong, something so terrible for them to leave him when he was only a week or so old while everyone else he saw had both of the parents with them. Didn't he deserve to have at least one of them with him?
Harry sat him down a few days after that and told him that he too didn't have any of his parents. Teddy shook his head and said that he was old. Harry gave him a sad smile and told him how he too had to grow up without both his parents. He asked if Teddy thought that Harry too had done something wrong for them to leave like that. Teddy couldn't say yes. How could Harry have done something wrong? He was the best person in the world. No one could hate him.
Teddy was eleven when he asked why there weren't as many pictures and stories of his father as his mother. He had heard a lot about his mother and seen a lot of her childhood, teenage and adult pictures but he has only listened to a handful of stories about his father and only seen one picture of him. In all of them, he was either a really good teacher or a really calm and collected man and Teddy couldn't resonate with him. Those stories always made Teddy feel like his father wouldn't have liked him. Because he was nothing like him. On the other hand, he was a lot like his mother and he couldn't help but feel she would've understood him more than anyone he's met.
When Teddy was thirteen he asked his grandfather Lyall about his father's childhood. His grandfather was always a timid person who talked very little. Whenever Teddy visited him throughout the years he only dotted on him and avoided talking about Remus. Even when Teddy asked. That day it felt like he'd do the same but after sitting quietly for a few minutes when Teddy is just about to get up and leave it at that he talked. he told him stories of Remus. Stories of his father. And Teddy listened eagerly.
Remus was a nice kid. He was as timid as Lyall himself. Didn't talk much and when he did it felt like a wise person was talking. Teddy wasn't anything like that. Teddy loved to talk, Teddy loved to change his hair and do pranks with his friends. Teddy loved breaking rules. When he said that to Lyall he laughed and told him that he was definitely Remus' son then. He told Teddy about Remus' time at Hogwarts and his friends at school. And Teddy was surprised to learn that his father was friends with Harry's father. After all, Harry was so much older than him. That day he went home with all of Lyall's photo albums.
The next time he saw Harry he showed him all the pictures that had the four marauders in them. He asked him to point out who was who. He was saving them for Harry and didn't want to ask his gran. Harry gladly pointed out Remus, James, Sirius and Peter. He told him the story of Peter and how he betrayed all his friends. After all, Harry thought he was thirteen as well he learned that story himself. Harry's eyes watered as he shared the story. Professor Lupin and Sirius were there when he first listened to this same story. He learned it from their own mouth and now Professor Lupin's son was here listening to it from him. Teddy went up and hugged Harry tight. Both of them cried that day. They cried like they never have.
When Teddy was fifteen and got his prefect's badge he went up to the mirror and changed his features to the one of his fifteen-year-old dad in the picture. He didn't have to change much. He only needed to change his hair colour, and eye colour and add a few scars on his face. He touched his face and observed the changes. And then he broke the mirror. He hated that he looked a lot like his father. He didn't want to look like someone who abandoned their child twice. He also hated his mother for loving him and for going with him the last time.
Was Remus the only one that deserved her love? Didn't Teddy deserve her love? He was also angry at grandfather Ted for leaving and making gran cry for the rest of her life. Why did everyone abandon him and his gran and his grandfather, Lyall? Couldn't one of them stay? Couldn't gran Hope stay and love him as he deserves? Couldn't grandfather Ted? couldn't mum? Couldn't dad? Harry didn't have his mum and dad but Harry had Sirius even if for only a short time. Harry got to know Teddy's father. Why couldn't Teddy get to know at least one of them instead of listening to their stories and their bravery? The stories didn't do them any justice. At least not his father and mother.
It made Teddy hate him even more. It was all his dad's fault. Why couldn't he just love Teddy and stay? For once. What did Teddy do to not deserve to see them?
When Teddy was eighteen and was looking over at the crowd at his graduation he felt like someone was missing. He kept searching but after a few moments, he realized why he couldn't find them. He was searching for his dead parents and relatives. There was no way he could find them. He didn't even see them before. And for the first time, Teddy realized that he missed them. He missed his dead relatives. He missed his parents. He missed his dad. And that was the moment he realized why he hated them so much. He hated them because he missed them. And hating was easier than missing. He chose the easy way out. Just like his dad.
He shook his head to clear out the thought. But his mind kept drifting back to it. He loved his mum. Possibly more than his dad. That was also like Remus according to Lyall. He once told Teddy that Remus loved Hope more than he loved Lyall. He was so much like his dad and he has been acting so much like his dad without realizing it. He was a prefect, he was a head boy. He broke rules but he also helped to maintain them. Just like him.
And for the first time in eighteen years, he asked if Remus would've been proud of him. If Remus could see him now would he have been proud of who Teddy has become and was becoming? He has no douth that Nymphadora would have been. He doesn't know why but he feels more sure of his mother than his father. Maybe because Remus was a mystery most of his life while Nymphadora wasn't. Or maybe simply because she was his mother.
If Remus saw him now, would he have recognized Teddy? Was Teddy the same Teddy Remus left behind? Was he the same person Remus wanted him to be? Teddy would never get to know the answers. But he wouldn't stop asking them. Remus wasn't good, he was great and now Teddy realizes why he left him the second time, why his mother followed him and left Teddy with his gran. They wanted Teddy to have this. They wanted Teddy to graduate and grow up like normal kids. They didn't want him to end up like Harry. Because he and Harry were the same except one had to go through much more than the other.
At that moment of realization, a body came and collided with him. It was eleven-year-old James Sirius Potter. Embracing him in a bone-crushing hug. And at that moment, all the envy he had for James melted away. He had never hugged James as enthusiastically.

Someone Else's Life
y'all are a bunch of enablers (and I love you very very much for it)
An amnesia story inspired by @takearisk-ao3 but this one's going to be fluffier/happier because my other WIPs are so dreary.
Summary and link below:
Remus Lupin wakes up at St. Mungo's with no recollection of the last four years. His last memory is from the Shrieking Shack, moments before he tried to kill Wormtail for his traitorous crimes.
To his immense surprise, it's March 1998. A beautiful, pink-haired witch claims to be his wife, and, as if he couldn't be more shocked, she's expecting their first child.
Oh, and there happens to be a significant conflict in the background between Voldemort and the Order.
At least some things haven't exactly changed.

war torn
"enjoy" this angsty as fuck drabble based on the concept of tonks having complications from teddy's birth and not being able to fight in the final battle. warning: there isn't a happy ending.
She looks down at her infant son and tries not to cry. He has his father's face and he might be her only way of seeing him ever again.
She was supposed to be there too.
There's of course a bit of solace in that fact that Teddy won't lose both his parents in one night, but the fact that he might lose his father and she might lose her husband makes it hard to find any sort of emotional relief.
The battle. What likely is the final battle is happening and merlin, she's supposed to be there. That was the plan. Whatever the war came to, she and Remus were supposed to face it together. And she was supposed to be fighting for the cause, alongside the Order, her brothers and sisters in arms. Of course she knew that after falling pregnant, she might have to miss it.
But she had her baby a few nights ago-- she was no longer pregnant, she should be there. But then, the blood, the weakness, the feeling that something just wasn't quite right after she felt Teddy in her arms. Before she could open her mouth and talk to the healer that delivered her son, she had passed out.
It was bad, she had been told. Her mother was beside herself; her daughter nearly dying of a postnatal hemorrhage, followed by another one 12 hours later would still be too much even if she hadn't just lost her husband. And Remus, poor Remus, he had been the one pondering single parenthood that night.
She lived. She's not fine yet but she will be. She's regaining her strength; there's pain and fatigue that plague her. She would be a liability in the battle-- that's the only reason she hasn't joined Remus at Hogwarts. She would be hurting their chances of winning, after all, Remus and the others would not be able to fight with their full potential if they were picking up her slack and trying to protect her.
Teddy will have his mother. She tries to remind herself her son won't shame her for not fighting in the battle when he's older-- he'll be thankful that she wasn't there.
But Remus. Remus could die tonight... or already be... no. He's alive, he's still alive.
He has to be.
She tells herself that again and again, right up until Kingsley comes to the house, a look on his face that she's come to know all too well throughout the wall.
She nods, tears spilling down her cheeks as she hands Teddy to her mother.
"Did he suffer?" she asks quietly, feeling as if her chest is about to split open from the sheer force of grief inside of her.
"It was quick."
She nods again; he wouldn't lie to her, not about this. She looks over at her son, at their son, resting peacefully in his grandmother's arms.
He'll know what his father died for, but never his father.

Grief
Happy Christmas Eve! I was trying to write something festive today, but I ended up writing this instead.
And exploration into Andromeda's grief after the war.
Read on AO3
Two hundred and eighty-one.
Every morning she wakes up another day is added to the count in her head. Today it’s two hundred and eighty-one.
She wonders sometimes, how long will she count? Would she wake up one day and forget? Would days go by before she realised, waking each morning, blissfully unaware that she’d lost track? When she realised, would she get out a calendar and count back? Count the days she had been forced to live this life without him. Or would she continue on, content to no longer keep track of how many days she had had to live in this world without him.
She hadn’t thought anything could be harder than the day Kingsley Shacklebolt arrived at her door with that horrible look on his face. Nymphadora standing beside her, heavily pregnant and gripping her hand as their world fell apart.
But a harder day came.
It was Minerva McGonagall this time, the words ‘I’m sorry,’ were all she needed to say for Andromeda to know that this was the news she had been dreading ever since the night before when her daughter dashed out the door. Her beautiful daughter, the best parts of her and Ted, gone forever. Her heart might have been broken before, but now it was shattered.
‘Where is he?’ She’d asked when she finally found her voice. She wasn’t surprised he hadn’t come. Wasn’t surprised he hadn’t been able to face her, or his son.
It’s funny, which moments you remember so clearly. Minerva’s face at that moment was one of them. The sadness and the grief. The tears that appeared at the sharp cry of the little boy who would never know his parents.
The worst thing about grief is that the days just keep coming.
Endless days where all Teddy does is scream, days when he is sick, days when all she can do is hold him and stare at the walls.
No one visits, she has no one left.
Until there is a tentative knock on the door, a quiet request from a young man who looks as haunted as she feels.
She wants to say no, wants to scream and cry and blame him for everything she has lost. But Ted’s voice in her head tells her to let him in, let him be a part of his godson’s life. It’s what Dora wanted. When Andromeda had questioned Remus’ suggestion of godfather, a boy she had only met once when he crashed into her garden, Dora had held firm.
‘You don’t know him, Mum. He’s a good bloke.’
And, Ted’s voice whispers in her mind, who can understand better than him?
So she lets him in, four o’clock every Saturday afternoon. At first, the focus is on Teddy. Teaching the boy how to hold him, feed him and burp him. She could tell, on that first visit, that he’d never held a baby before, but it doesn’t take long before he grows confident.
And then he quietly mentions Dora, about the first time he’d met her and she tried to pack his trunk for him.
‘She always was hopeless at domestic spells.’ Andromeda says with a fond smile, and it hurts, but not as much, not when there is someone else to talk to.
She finds herself talking to Harry, telling him about Ted and how they met. About Dora and the mischief she’d gotten up to as a child. He listens, and sometimes he opens up about his own struggles. They talk about Sirius, her favourite cousin. Another in a long list of Blacks whose life had been cut tragically short.
A curse she passed to her own family.
With Harry comes others, mostly Weasleys. His girlfriend and the two other teenagers who had been to hell and back with him. They were all so young, too young to have gone through what they had.
But they’d survived.
They survived, when Dora hadn’t, despite her years of Auror training. It hadn’t been enough to keep her safe, to keep her here.
It’s hard not to resent them for that, not to resent them for the bright lives they have ahead of them. Lives like the one Dora was meant to have. But she lets them in anyway. For Teddy, because he deserves a family beyond her, and because it’s what Dora would have wanted.
Molly Weasley starts visiting too, one of the few people who has any kind of understanding of what Andromeda is going through. Not all of it, not entirely. She still has her husband, a vicious voice whispers at the back of Andromeda’s mind, and her other children.
But they are forever joined in the future they both had to face.
If you lose your husband, you’re a widow. If you lose your parents, you’re an orphan.
There’s no name for a parent who loses a child.
It’s something that you can only truly understand once you go through it.
So Andromeda lets Harry and the Weasleys fold her and Teddy into their family. It makes it a little bit easier, knowing that Teddy will have people like them to count on. He will never know blood relatives beyond her, but it doesn’t matter, because the Weasleys more than make up for it.
She learnt long ago that blood doesn’t mean anything.
The letter arrives on the anniversary of Ted’s death. Andromeda never finds out if that was on purpose or a terrible accident of fate.
She’d asked Harry to take Teddy the night before. He isn’t yet one year old, but he understands more than they know, and he doesn’t need to see this.
Tomorrow she’ll take him to lay flowers on the graves, she’ll tell him stories of his grandfather.
Tonight, she needs to be able to fall apart.
She spends the night going through every photo album she owns. Starting with the first picture of them together, a muggle snapshot taken by Ted’s mum on their wedding day. The pictures of Dora growing up, all mischief and cheeky smiles. All the way through to the last, a sneaky picture Dora had taken of the two of them asleep on the couch, Andromeda curled up against Ted’s chest the same way she had done for twenty-five years.
She cries and wails in a way she’s rarely done before. She screams against the unfairness of it all. He should have had the chance to meet his grandson. He should be here. Dora and Remus should be here.
She drinks a bottle and a half of wine and curls up on the couch, unable to face the bed she’d shared with him. She dreams of him, of the way he held her, his smile when he looked at her.
The tapping of an owl at the windows drags her from her dreams.
Her head is pounding and her mouth is fuzzy as she pulls herself off the couch.
The owl doesn’t leave straight away, instead waiting for her to open the envelope, watching her expectantly.
She only reads the first line before she burns it. Lighting it with her wand and relishing in the way it turns to ashes.
‘You can fuck right off.’ She snarls at the owl, who gives an offended hoot before flying back the way it came.
It’s far too late for any sisterly attempts at reconciliation.
Narcissa never writes again.
Time moves on.
The horrible thing about grief is that the days just keep coming. And one day she forgets to count. Teddy is walking now, babbling away just like his mother did. She’s not sure how many days go by before she realises. She’s forgotten what the last number was. She’s standing in the kitchen, trying to work it out, but Teddy needs breakfast and she promised him a trip to the park. There’s no time to go back and count again.
Andromeda’s days are filled with her grandson and the family that has adopted them both. She helps Molly with knitting jumpers for her ever-growing family. She finds the recipe for Ted’s favourite Christmas pudding and learns how to make it. She finds Dora’s old Auror training notebooks and gives them to Harry, who takes them and keeps them safe until he passes them on to her great-granddaughter. Another metamorphagus who wants to make the world safe.
Teddy grows up, and the grief of raising him without Ted and Dora, or without Remus, still knocks her over like the Knight Bus on occasion. That never stops. When Teddy does something that reminds her of one of them. His first and last days at Hogwarts. On his wedding day. When his first daughter is born and each child after that.
They should be here.
But time moves on. And for all the horrible things life has done to her, it gave her Teddy. It gave her a reason to keep going, no matter how much she might want to give up.
So she keeps going. For her grandson, for his parents, and for the only man she ever loved.

@wolfstarmicrofic - june 5th - prompt: gold - sunset because I’m so original!
You and me, an open field, a sunset. I watch the light set your skin aglow Gold. like the laughter of our grandchildren ringing in air they are so much like we used to be.
I tuck a curl behind your ear And I could swear Your smile had never dampened through the years cascade of seasons, turn of fears all grew into the crinkles, at my fingertip’s reach in the lines by your eyes I’ve learnt to read.
twelve years, I thought myself a goldless fool— for every one of these twelve, I give you back twenty we’ve shared thousands of sunsets let me have a thousand more

Hey you, I'm here for Wolfstar raising harry recommendations 🤗
Hello!! I'm also going to tag @imsiriuslyreading because I know Lana was also looking for some recs!
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but these are some of my very favs:
Wolfstar Raising Harry
Ten Reasons (To Go To Michigan) by @greyeyedmonster-18 (I also love these two unrelated wolfstar raising harry microfics by the same author) — This is a Sirius raising Harry and meeting recently divorced Remus (who happens to be a writer) on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A must read! that's the art of getting by by sarewolf — Remus becomes Harry's guardian and they move to a muggle village in the middle of nowhere. Eventually, Sirius is freed and comes to stay with them, but can they get back what they once had? Honestly, majorly obsessed with this one, but watch out for the angst! Stealing Harry by copperbadge — In an alternate universe where Sirius Black never went to Azkaban, Harry divides his life between the Dursleys' house and Mr. Black's bookshop -- until Sirius realises what the Dursleys are doing to him, and takes him away from their care. This series is fucking amazing and actually spans several of the books!! Mr Mouse by TracingPatterns (which continues in their wolfstar raising harry series) — A lovely little piece in which a young Harry learns about grief.
Like Real People Do by third_crow (part of the coffee shop au series) — Sirius raising Harry, when he starts falling for local barista Remus Lupin. This is also a beautiful story about what it's like to live with epilepsy and I am extremely obsessed with this series. The Things I Did by Lolo_row — canon compliant, Remus gets custody of Harry and works to get Sirius out of Azkaban. A bit of angst, but tasty! the dogfather au by hollimichele — Harry was raised by his adoptive muggle family, when one day a big black dog shows up. His parents just thinks he's a stray, and Padfoot becomes the family pet (to keep an eye on Harry, and protect him from Voldemort). Eventually this morphs into Remus also coming into the picture.
Wolfstar Raising Teddy
the mayors of simpleton by @fruityindividual — Divorced wolfstar are co-parenting a very mischievious Teddy who is not about to let his dads stay divorced!! Honestly this fic is so funny, so heartfelt, so fucking lovely. It also features the most beautiful portrayal of a blind character that I ever seen. A must read! Of Memories and Milk Thievery by @mayescapade — Divorced wolfstar raising Teddy again! Wolfstar have been co-parents for years and they wont stop terrorizing/pranking one another. An Infinte Ocean by orphan_account — Single dad Remus. Remus Lupin knows two things--working and caring for his son, Teddy. When his babysitter sets up crowdfunding so Teddy can go swim with the sea turtles at the local animal rescue, Remus doesn't realise how completely their life is going to change. Especially when he meets Sirius Black, the weekend merman in the aquatic show, and someone who might convince him of love at first sight. Honestly a lovely piece, and it also features the Potter clan.
Other (raising both teddy and harry, wolfstar girldads)
Let's Play Pretend by MsAlexWP — My current obsession!! I can't tell you how many times I've read this. Single parent Remus and single parent Sirius meet at a play date and end up pretend dating so that the old women in Sirius' building (who basically stalk him) will stop trying to set him up. Neither of them can date at the moment, so what could possibly go wrong?? Ultimate comfort fic. Of Quiet Hearts And Thundering Dreams by TracingPatterns — This is single parent Sirius and single parent Remus, both having moved to a small village and meeting at Harry & Teddy's school. A Cup of Sugar by MsAlexWP — Again, they are both single parents. Harry Potter is recovering from surgery and facing the worst summer ever until a guy with the same crutches as Harry moves in across the street with his son. So lovely!! Hide-and-Seek by onehundredflamingos — Wolfstar girldads raising their adoptive daughter Cassie, who is also a werewolf. This is the story of her first transformation. It's soooo sweet! @industrations has done a bunch of wolfstar and Cassie art, which you should absolutely go and cry over!
For supplementary material, feel free to check out my Wolfstar Raising Harry, Wolfstar Raising Teddy and Wolfstar Girldads tags!
