Being the daughter of two Gods came with many difficulties.
With your status came responsibilities, obligations and burdens. Things were expected of you, you needed to reflect well on your parents and your kind.
Studying at Hogwarts had been your way out, your one place where you could be yourself without people breathing down your neck, without being judged for every little thing that you would do. It was your escape.
After the Battle of Hogwarts, that place had forever disappeared from your life. You were back in your closed-off world, living to please the people around you, make them proud and give them someone to show-off and brag about.
However, there was one person whom you reconnected with that gave you your freedom back.
Draco Malfoy.
During the war, you had had to cut off contact with him because of your opposing positions in the war, your parents having forbidden you from associating with Death Eaters or anyone who might tarnish their stellar reputation, as a matter of fact.
You and Draco had just secretly started dating before the war broke out, cutting contact being the most hurtful thing you've had to do. Having just found someone to love you for who you were, and immediately having to let them go.
When you reconnected after the war, it seemed like two pieces of a puzzle reunited after a long time without each other. You finally felt like you were at home again, safe and sound in the arms of the one you loved.
There was just one problem.
Your parents.
The fear that crippled your heart at the thought of them meeting Draco was paralyzing. You knew how they felt about Death Eaters, and despite Draco leaving those days behind, that wouldn't matter to them. He would still be evil in their eyes.
Draco was the one who insisted that he meet them. He was positive that he could change their minds and make them see that he was good for you, that those days were long behind him and he wasn't evil at heart as they had concluded.
You weren't so sure, but you figured you had nothing more to lose. The worst your parents could do was lock you away for good, but it wasn't anything that you hadn't previously been through.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" you asked Draco for the twentieth time as you stopped before the grand door that sat in front of you.
You had been very evasive with details about your boyfriend when you told your parents you would be bringing him to dinner, which sparked their curiosity even more.
But not in a good way.
"Love, we have to get this done. We can't hide away forever" he caressed your cheek, sensing how nervous you truly were.
"Yes, we can. There's nothing stopping us. They don't care about my life anyway, and I know what they're going to say already. This is all really unnecessary" you tried to reason with him, trying to convince him just how bad this idea was in your eyes.
"I want to meet your parents, and regardless of what they say, I'm not giving up on us. Whatever comes our way, we'll deal with it together" looking into his gray eyes, you felt comfort.
Without realizing it, you found yourself nodding and taking his hand, finally entering the place you had been dreading to enter for the past few days.
Immediately, as soon as you stepped foot into the house, servants bombarded you left and right, not even sparing Draco a second glance as they focused on you.
"Master and Mistress are awaiting you in the grand ballroom" one of the servants informed you before disappearing with the others into another room.
You glanced once more at Draco before letting out a big breath, and beginning your journey towards the ballroom.
Once stopped in front of the entrance, you raised your hand to knock, but the doors opened on their own before you got the chance.
"Hello Mother, hello Father" you greeted your parents, both of them conversing with their backs turned to you.
"Sit" your mother's sweet yet icy voice spoke, not turning around yet.
You glanced at Draco with the corner of your eyes, but followed suit nonetheless.
Both of you took a seat next to each other, clearing your throat and keeping your hand clasped in his.
Your parents, Ares and Aphrodite, God of war and Goddess of love and beauty, now stood facing you, eyeing you down wearily. You were accustomed to their intense gaze, but it hurt Draco to look at them.
"Who have you brought here?" your mother asked, her eyes scanning your boyfriend.
By the way she was looking at him, you could already sense her suspicion.
"This is my boyfriend, Draco. Draco, these are my parents"
"It's an honor to meet you both," Draco said nervously.
Your father stared him down, cracking his knuckles.
"What is this young man doing in my house? Do you have no respect for us? Don't you know what he did in the war?" the booming voice of your father echoed off the walls, his fist hitting the long table that stood between you.
You didn't even flinch, accustomed already to his outbursts. There was a reason why he was the God of war, after all.
Clearing your throat, you held your head high and looked at your father.
"I am aware of Draco's actions during the war, but I am also aware of the fact that he did not participate willingly in any of them. He was being forced by his father, who is now residing in Azkaban for his crimes. I know you despise the lot, but Draco is not like them. He never was and he never will. I ask of you that you give him a chance and get to know him before making any judgements" your father was fuming, but you could your mother smiling from the corner of your eyes.
She had always encouraged you to fight for the ones you love, and this was the first time you had really stood up to your father like this.
"I don't want to hear this right now" he turned around and stormed out of the room, something you had known was going to happen.
"Don't worry, my dear. I will speak to your father. Draco, consider yourself welcomed to the family" your mother caressed his shoulder before graciously following after your father.
Left alone in the room, you let out a big sigh of relief, not quite believing what had just happened.
"I told you so" Draco teased, bumping your shoulders.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.

just another little reminder that:
after remus died, harry tried to use the marauders map
but it didn't work
bc afer a witch/wizard dies, their magic dies with them
and bc remus was the last marauder to die, the marauders map stopped working when he died
it just showed "mischief managed" and then it was all blank forever

Heartache of the Wind
Song here
The fall of the Dark Lord should call for a grand and special celebration—a sumptuous dinner table, adorned with immaculate cutlery and extravagant menus.
When the doors open to the Great Hall, anticipation should fill the air; the scent of hope and new beginnings wafting through the room, calling for smiles to be shared and laughter to fill the space.
But as the doors to the hall creak open, the mood is anything but celebratory. The hall is filled with a palpable melancholy, a somber atmosphere of grief and tears. The atmosphere is unsettling.
You let yourself watch the scene with low eyes. The rain that had washed over your back in the war blends with the flow of your tears, and you have to leave the room with heartache on your lips.
The walk to the black lake is silent. It’s still raining but it falls softer now, as if the clouds were letting go of their own grief. The tears of the dark sky wash away all the pain.
When you near, there's a ghostly figure standing by the shore. The figure stands, hunched over with his back to you, his black suit a contrast against the muddy shore. His shoulders are slumped forward as silent tears fall from his eyes and into the black water below.
You approach him quietly, your footsteps nearly lost in the mud and the rain. You can hear his breathing, ragged and uneven, as if he's holding back a wave of emotions that threatens to overwhelm him.
As you approach, he turns his head to you and the platinum-blond hair gives him away. It's Draco, still in his black suit, still mourning the loss of those he loved―his heart full of anger and resentment.
"Love?" he says softly, extending his hand towards you. You can feel the tension in his voice, the strain of the pain that he has endured. You take his hand, letting his warmth envelop you as he pulls you into a embrace.
You can still feel the coldness of the rain, but the warmth of his blazer against your skin brings you a sense of comfort. A shaky breath leaves your throat.
"We'll be alright," he tells you. You can see the doubt in his eyes, the struggle to believe in the words he's saying. It's an attempt at reassurance, and as the song of birds grows louder, you let yourself believe.
The fight is over and now it is time to heal, to mend everything that has been broken. Only the sweet smell of dew and the sound of bird song can offer a respite from the pain.

In Between
(Minerva/Poppy, 91 words, @sapphicmicrofics )
They seemed to exist in the in between.
Coworkers. Friends.
More.
The latter came rushing to the forefront as the battle raged and Minerva heard Death Eaters breached the castle.
She rushed to the hospital wing to find it strongly warded to keep everyone out while Poppy worked over the victims as quickly as possible.
Poppy looked up to see her standing there, watching. She waved her wand, letting Minerva inside the wards. Minerva found her way to her side and their hands touched briefly.
"I'm glad you're safe." Poppy murmured.

Hannah Abbott
Hannah Abbott was a half blood witch who was sorted into Hufflepuff in 1991, in the same year the famous Harry Potter came back to the Wizarding World and was sorted alongside her but ended up in Gryffindor.
Hannah and her classmates usually had to clean whatever Harry Potter did in the school, and while they hated Dumbledore's favoritism with Harry and Gryffindor, they were glad that in their third year and their fourth year Harry was safe.
Hannah always tried to be fair, even if sometimes she was too angry or hurt to be good with the people who were mean to her friends, but she always defended them.
Her best friends were Susan Bones and Ernie McMillan and they were called the Citrine trio.
She came out to them first by telling them that she was bisexual and they gladly supported her, and beside them the most supportive person she met was her mom, Ethel Alinac, a muggle born who had married her dad Edward Abbott.
The experience of her mom as a student made Hannah aware that people would look down on her for having muggle blood, as well as that she had to look for her value only on herself.
It was a cold morning in Herbology class in 1996, Professor Sprout was giving the instructions when Dumbledore, the headmaster, called Professor Sprout, moments later they called for her and told her what she never imagined she would have to go through.
Her mom had been murdered by Death Eaters, and they hurt her dad.
Hannah traveled home immediately and took care of her ailing father as well as she started training in order to be a better fighter and a better healer so that she could avenge her mother.
And in those times she was able to gather her strength and cast a corporal patronus: a brown bear.
She grew to be grumpy resentful after that, even with Susan Bones and Ernie McMillan but they never gave up on trying to help her and all their efforts were worth it when Neville Longbottom who had always been kind to her tried to get closer and be her friend.
Not an easy task since now she pushed away everyone, but the ever optimistic and sweet Neville kept coming back every time she tried to be away from him, and when they had to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, Hannah was petrified by the sight of Neville under the spell of Voldemort by burning the sorting hat but got relieved and proud by seeing Neville break away and behead Nagini, Neville also got happy when he saw Hannah conjure her beloved brown bear patronus and to see she could find her light among all the darkness they were in.
When everything ended they went to each other to talk and walk.
- You were fantastic today Neville- mumbled Hannah
- You were too, you saved me by casting your patronus, thank you Hannah - Neville said as he gave her a sweet and small smile
- Thank you for always being there, even if I was a pain in the ass, you helped me a lot.-
- I wanted to be there for you, I know how it feels to no longer be able to talk to your mother - Hannah felt a little guilty, Neville's parents were still alive but they were insane and no longer recognized himself and yet she dared feel no one understood her when Neville already knew and that he always tried to give his best and not be resentful, the contrary of her.
- I want to apologize for taking you for granted before, I was a monster, I realize you lost your family too and I really appreciate you and I still want to be your friend.
- You are my friend Hannah, and I want you to know I appreciate you too and you're not a monster, you were grieving and learning how to deal with your pain like the rest of us.
Neville and her got even closer than before after that conversation if it was possible and soon they realized they felt stronger in each other's company and as she got to be a healer in Hogwarts and the new owner of the Leaky Cauldron and him the new teacher of Herbology in Hogwarts they started a relationship, and 3 years later Neville bent on one knee and proposed and Hannah said yes.
youtube
Hannah indeed learnt to be better as she acknowledged that she had to recognize and feel her emotions not suppress them, and her brave and humble acts earned her a memorial tribute in Hufflecrew along Susan and her other classmates.

Amici In Perpetuum “Hi Fred. I'm sorry.” She whispered as twirled with the bracelet under her sleeve. “I'm sorry we never got the chance to really get to know each other. I'm sorry that I was always on your back about your products.” She took in a deep breath as she looked over to George, who was still staring at the same spot but she knew he was listening. “I just wanted you to know I thought you were brilliant, I thought your products were amazing. I'm sorry I never got a chance to say it before.” She gently reached for his hand and when her hand touched his, everything happened at the same time. Fred died at the battle of Hogwarts. And Hermione went to the great hall to say goodbye to him, to the man she never really knew. But then everything changed when she reached over and touched his hand.
Hermione walked back into the great hall after Voldemort's defeat when her eyes fell on the fallen hero, Fred Weasley, for the first time. His identical twin sat right next to him in shock as he stared in front him, looking into nothingness, his eyes glazed over and full of tears.
When Hermione slowly came closer, George didn't notice her, or maybe he did but his gaze was still fixed on a point in front of him. She looked over at the rest of the Weasley family, they were huddled together a few meters away, tears falling down their cheeks as they looked at anything but Fred. The only one that was missing was Harry, but she already knew where he was as he felt guilty about the losses they had that evening. Fred, Remus, Tonks and many more. He isolated himself in his room and didn't want anyone to disturb him, so she came down to see the ones they’d lost. She had come down to say goodbye.
Hermione looked over at George once again before she knelt down nervously next to Fred. She studied his face, a few bumps and bruises scattered around his face and neck but if she didn't know any better, it just looked like he was asleep. She sat there in silence for a few minutes, glancing over the other people they had lost that night, before her gaze fell back to the ginger in front of her.
“Hi Fred. I'm sorry.” She whispered as she subconsciously twirled with the bracelet under her sleeve. “I'm sorry we never got the chance to really get to know each other. I'm sorry that I was always on your back about your products.” She took in a deep breath as she looked over to George, who was still staring at the same spot, but she knew he was listening. “I just wanted you to know... I thought you were brilliant; I thought your products were amazing. And I'm sorry I never got a chance to say it before.” She gently reached for his hand and when her hand touched his, everything happened at the same time.
George’s head snapped in their direction as he fell to his knees next to his fallen twin. The other Weasleys that were huddled together, sprung to their feet and looked over, all eight sets of eyes on her. She saw George's mouth move but she didn't know what he was saying. She didn't hear anything anymore. All the sounds that surrounded her a few seconds ago were gone. She suddenly felt her wrist burn, before a bright golden light sprung from the bracelet that was hidden underneath her sleeve. At the same time a light came from Fred's right arm. Hermione's eyes went even bigger as she looked at the light that closed her and Fred off from the rest of the world.
Hermione tried to reach over and look at his arm, but something was pushing her back. She turned around looking for the person that was holding her back but there was no one. No one could pass the barrier; it was just her and Fred. More people came over when the light brightened the great hall.
George and Molly were pounding on the light that formed like a barrier around her and Fred with tears falling from their eyes. Their mouths open as they shouted. She looked at the panicked Weasleys before she focused her attention back on the one that was lying in front of her.
With all her might she pushed and pushed against the force that held her back. When she finally reached Fred's sleeve, she pushed it up and saw a bracelet just like hers, a set. Her heart started beating faster as she saw the nearly identical bracelet on the fallen Weasley. She swallowed hard before she reached over.
When her fingertips brushed Fred's bracelet, it went ice cold at the same time as hers. Suddenly the bracelet on Fred's arm became engraved, an infinity sign with the letters F and H appeared on it. Hermione's eyes went wide when she pulled up her sleeve and saw the same thing happen on her bracelet. Her eyes shot up and locked on George's, who stared with large blue eyes between her and Fred's bracelet, mouth dropped open in shock. Her eyes fell down once again when she suddenly felt a heartbeat. It wasn't hers; it came from her bracelet. She felt a soft but steady heartbeat beneath it, while hers was raging like mad. She looked back at the older Weasley twin's face and to her shock, his mouth dropped slightly open and let out a small breath of air before his eyes slowly fluttered open.
In the corner of her eyes, she saw George fall down and crawl as close as he could get to his brother’s head, crying in relief, in shock; the golden light barrier still separated the twins. When Fred's eyes opened fully, they landed straight on her. Her heart skipped a beat when he looked at her, alive. The twinkle back in his eyes before his eyes fell shut again. The moment his eyes closed, she fell on his chest as everything turned black, feeling the steady heartbeat on her cheek and the soft rise and fall of his chest. The golden barrier slowly faded, and she heard the sounds, the screams, the sobs coming over her before she fell completely unconscious.
A bright light woke Hermione up, she squinted her eyes before opening them fully. She pushed herself up and glanced around to see where she was. Blue skies above her with the sun shining brightly down on her. She felt the grass tickle under her hands and bare feet, she was wearing a light blue summer dress instead of her dirty clothes from the battle.
“What in the world?” She whispered as she looked at her clothes. Not only was she wearing different clothes, but she was also clean and looked well fed, not like she did a few minutes ago. The only thing that was still there was the engraved golden bracelet. She looked back at her surroundings and noted she was in sitting in the burrow's orchard. She scrambled to her feet when she heard a branch snap behind her. She immediately searched for her wand, but it was nowhere in sight.
“Hermione?” A voice came from behind a tree.
“Fred?” She choked out as she turned to the familiar voice. Fred stepped from behind the tree wearing beige summer pants and a magenta shirt, her breath hitched before she ran up to him and tackled him to the ground. Fred wrapped his arms around her as he hugged her back. “Am I... am I dead?”
“No, love.” He whispered as they sat up. Fred still had his arm around her waist as they rested against the tree. Hermione frowned as she looked around.
“Are we at the burrow?”
Fred nodded as he pointed to the house in the distance. “It's my home after all.”
Hermione looked back at Fred while he rubbed small circles on her back. Her eyes fell on his bracelet that was still firmly wrapped around his wrist.
“Fred, you died.” She said so softly that he barely heard, her hand twirled with his bracelet.
“Hmm... Yeah, I figured.” He said as he stared at the trees in front of them.
“But you said -”
“You're not dead, Hermione, I promise.” He smiled before he took his arm from behind her and took her hand. He held her hand in the air and placed his next to hers. “I think this has something to do with it.” He shook the bracelet on his wrist. “How did you get yours?”
“I found it in the room of requirement after a DA meeting in fifth year. We were cleaning up and I found it on top of the dresser in the corner. I don't know why I looked up there but there was this kind of pull.” She shook her head at the memory. “You?”
“In my fifth year. George and I were running from Filch when the room of requirement appeared. It was full of lost things, mountains and mountains of it. And the moment I stepped in the room, I was drawn to it. I don't know why or how but I started walking passing piles of stuff and rubbish, and pulled open one single drawer and there it was. And as you know, we never had something fancy or new with seven kids at the house, so I kept it. I've been wearing it since the day I found it. But most of the time I had a glamour on it because I was afraid one of the teachers would ask me to put it back. I tried to find the room again but never found it until you three started the DA.”
They sat in silence for a bit, just staring at each other’s bracelet. A soft wind rustled the leaves above them. They both looked up before their eyes met.
“Do you feel it?” She asked him, still holding his gaze. He nodded.
“A heartbeat.”
“My heartbeat.” She corrected as she took his hand. “I feel yours.”
“But how? What happened? The last thing I remember was fighting alongside Percy when a blast happened, then everything turned black, and I was here... alone.” Hermione watched his expression turn grim. “Then I heard your voice.”
“My- my voice?” She stuttered.
“Yeah, I was just walking in the orchard when your voice rang in my head. You said I was brilliant.” He gave her a lopsided grin, making her blush lightly. “That you liked our products.”
“You heard all of that?” She asked with a soft voice as she looked in his deep blue eyes.
“Yes.” He chuckled. “Then a bright light appeared, and I felt a heartbeat – your heartbeat underneath my bracelet. When the light disappeared, you were here lying flat on the grass.”
Hermione dropped her gaze to her wrist as she started turning it. “Something similar happened to me.” She took in a deep breath before continuing, still looking down. “I came over to your – to you and started talking, which sounds like you heard every little thing I said.” She chuckled. “And when I touched your arm… my bracelet started to burn, a golden light appeared and the same happened with yours. The light created a barrier between us and the rest. It was like a force field. George was sitting right next to you when it happened, but he couldn't get in.”
She saw Fred flinch at the mention of George, but he kept silent and waited for her to continue.
“I couldn't hear anything anymore, all the noises, the voices, everything disappeared. When I reached over to touch your hand...” She said as she reached for his hand again, Fred automatically took her hand tightly in his.
“I saw the bracelet.” She rubbed her thumb over the newly engraved armband. “I saw the engraving appear and when I looked at mine, the engraving was exactly the same. The moment I touched it, it went ice cold and I could feel your heartbeat. You opened your eyes for a second and let out a breath of air before everything turned black and I woke up here.”
Fred's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at his wrist. “What does this mean?” He whispered as he pulled on the bracelet. “Can you take it off? Because I can't.”
“Me neither.” She answered as she tried to clasp it open.
“They will never come off.” An unexpected voice said. Hermione and Fred jumped up and looked at the smiling faces of Remus and Tonks. Hermione's eyes filled with tears as she ran up and wrapped her arms around the both of them.
“I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.” She repeated. She felt a hand on her shoulder and when she looked up, Fred gave her a small smile. She stepped back next to Fred and looked at her old professor and his wife.
“It's okay, Hermione.” Remus said in a soft voice.
“How can this be okay? You just had a baby!” She let her tears fall and Fred gently started rubbing her back again.
“And we'll look over him for the rest of his life.” Tonks said with a smile. “With the help of you two and Harry, he will do great.”
“But we are here for a reason.” Remus started and he and Tonks showed their matching arm bands. Fred and Hermione's eyes went big as they looked at their wrists and back to each other. “Maybe we should sit down.”
Remus pointed at a picnic table that had appeared near the burrow. Hermione's legs trembled as they made their way over. Fred's hand a calming fixture on her back. Fred and Hermione sat down on the opposite side of Tonks and Remus.
“You are probably wondering what is going on.”
Fred and Hermione nodded fast. Remus and Tonks smiled at each other before glancing back at them.
“These bracelets are called una in perpetuum or more known amici in perpetuum.”
“Soulmates.” Hermione breathed.
“Yes.” Tonks smiled as she looked at her and Fred. “The bracelets just appeared to you, yes? Around the time you were sixteen?”
“Many people, couples, think they are soulmates, but it doesn't happen as much as everyone thinks. It is extremely rare that people find their soulmate, if they even have one. You two are the only other couple I know that are true soulmates.”
“Lilly and James.” Hermione said as she looked wide eyed at Remus who nodded.
“But why didn't it save you or the Potters? Why is Hermione here after I died?” Fred asked as he looked between the married couple. Hermione was surprised he didn't laugh about the idea of her being his soulmate.
“Because we found each other, we got married, had a child together.”
“For only a year.” Hermione said softly as she looked at them with sad eyes.
“It may have been brief but it was the happiest time of my life. I found my one and only.” Remus said lovingly as he looked at Tonks. “And we'll find each other again.”
“You're not just soulmates here.” Tonks explained as she saw the younger ones’ confused faces. “You have been soulmates in your previous life and will be in the next. You two will always find each other.”
“You two never had a chance together, with you running around with Harry and Ron, the war and now Fred's death.”
“But is he dead? I mean, I felt his heartbeat return, I saw him breathe before I came here. Or-” She looked over at Fred who smiled as he reached for her hand.
“No, like Fred said, you're not dead.”
“Told you.” Fred chuckled and winked at her.
“Nor are you.” Remus pointedly looked at Fred. “The magic of these bracelets, the power of soulmates goes further than anyone can imagine. When you went to talk to Fred, told him you were sorry you never had a chance to really get to know him or vice versa. That was the moment the bracelets connected, and it healed him. From now on you'll be connected, you will always feel each other’s heartbeats until the day one of you dies.”
“Right now, you are both comatose. Lying in the hospital wing at Hogwarts.” Tonks waved her hand and an image appeared in front of them. They were lying side by side on an enlarged hospital bed, their fingers intertwined with the Weasleys and Harry around them. George looked white as a ghost as he sat next to Fred, while Harry sat on her side of the bed, holding her hand. They all sat in silence around the two of them as they slept.
“How long will we stay like that?”
“That depends.”
“On?” Fred asked but Tonks and Remus suddenly looked up at the sky.
“I'm sorry. Our time is up. We can't stay.” Tonks said with a sad smile. Hermione jumped up and tried to hug them one last time, but they faded away. “Take care of Teddy.” Was the last whisper of Tonks she heard before they were gone.
Hermione sat back down on the bench as the tears ran freely down her cheeks. Fred immediately wrapped her up in his strong arms, tears threatened to fall from his own as he whispered reassuring words in her hair. After a couple of minutes Hermione pulled back and Fred wiped the remaining tears from her cheek with his thumb.
“Are you okay? Dumb question I know.” He gave her a small smile as he looked down at her.
Hermione laughed as she looked up at him. “I will be.”
“I like your laugh.” He said as he gazed in her eyes, his hand still rested in her neck. “I guess we never spent that much time together for me to hear it.”
“Yeah, but I heard you laugh more than once.” She chuckled.
“Well yeah, me and George go through life laughing, it's hard to miss. But when we get back, we'll have plenty of time to hear each other laugh. And after hearing yours, I'll promise you, it will be my mission to make you laugh at least once a day.”
Hermione laughed again as Fred wiggled his eyebrows at her. “That's two.” He winked at her.
“We first have to get back.” Hermione smiled as she glanced around the garden. “Have any ideas?”
“Maybe one.” He whispered as he cupped her face in his hands. Hermione looked up at him as her eyes fell to his lips and back up. Before she could fully register what he was about to do, he bent down and captured her lips.
The kiss was amazing, it felt like it was meant to be (which it was), long overdue and even before it ended, she longed for more. They felt the world shift around them as they kissed but didn't let each other go. Hermione even held him tighter around his waist, not wanting to part from him. They didn't feel when they started floating in the air and after they finally parted and smiled at each other, everything turned black.
George was watching the rise and fall of his twin's chest, still in shock of what happened. He was dead. Fred was dead, he was certain of it. Madam Pomfrey checked on him, he even did a muggle check that he learned from Harry at one point, but there was nothing, no heartbeat, no breathing, nothing.
And still Fred was here, next to him... alive. Comatose but alive. All of the Weasleys including George were in shock, they all saw what happened but couldn't explain. The only thing George knew was that the bracelets must be involved. He knew his twin had one, he found it a couple of years back, but Hermione had the exact same one on her wrist, that both got engraved at the same time. He saw Hermione's shocked face and instantly knew that she didn't know Fred had the same one, that she didn't know what was happening.
When Hermione fell unconscious on Fred, the barrier disappeared and Mr. Weasley hysterically called Madam Pomfrey over. Madam Pomfrey became as white as a sheet as she told them Fred was alive. He and Hermione had gone in a coma.
“Together?” Mrs. Weasley asked bewildered.
“Everything points in that direction. They are going to come out of it together or they stay in it together.” Madam Pomfrey answered as she stood up. “Let's get them to the hospital wing.”
She waved her wand to levitate them on different stretchers. The Weasleys stood up as Hermione and Fred floated in the air. The moment she tried to separate them the golden barrier appeared again as Fred and Hermione in their comatose state intertwined their fingers together. Madam Pomfrey looked surprised at the development with a raised eyebrow before she enlarged the stretcher and placed them together. The moment Fred and Hermione laid back together the barrier disappeared once more.
They followed her out of the great hall, carefully avoiding the rubble that got in the way when George turned to Ron.
“Ron, maybe you should get Harry.”
Ron looked up from the ground and looked at his older brother. “Oh right. I-” Ron glanced over to his best friend.
“You go, Ron, I'll stay with her.” His sister smiled and took her place on the other side of the stretcher next to Hermione.
“Thanks. I'll be right back.” He said before he ran up the stairs.
When Harry and Ron came back, the former took his place next to Hermione and didn't leave her side once. The others explained what happened in the great hall. Harry had many questions that they couldn't answer. The only thing they could do was wait and hope they would come out of it together. And maybe then they'll get some answers.
That was almost over a month ago. Weeks had passed since the end of the battle and still no sign that they would wake up. After a week, Mrs. Weasley had convinced Madam Pomfrey to take them both home as they were in a stable condition. They placed them in the twins' room as Mr. Weasley enlarged Fred's bed. George didn't want to leave his twin’s side and demanded him to stay in their room. They all took turns to sit with them, talk to them. Only Harry and George took a break if the others practically had to push them out for a shower or something to eat. Harry even slept in the same room on Hermione's old cot. So of course, the both of them were there when they finally woke up.
Hermione bolted straight up as she filled her longs with a deep breath. She was sitting in a dark room, only a streak of moonlight shining through the window. She felt something warm, familiar in her hand and when she looked down, she saw her fingers intertwined with another hand. She followed the arm up and looked at the lopsided smile on Fred's face.
“Fred.” She sighed in relief as she wrapped her arms around him. “You're really here, you're really back.
“Hermione.” He whispered before he kissed her once again. When they pulled back smiling, Hermione asked,
“Where are we?”
“I think we're in my room.” Fred said as he squinted his eyes.
“What?” She asked surprised and looked around. “Weren't we supposed to be at Hogwarts?”
“Dunno.” Fred turned and saw his wand lying on the nightstand, he grabbed it and whispered. “Lumos.”
Fred pointed his wand across the room and saw George sleeping on the bed next to them and Harry slightly snoring on the floor.
“George.” Fred choked out. Hermione gave his hand a squeeze before she let go and Fred jumped out of bed towards his brother, but he fell down with a loud thump.
“Fred!” Hermione cried as she rolled out of bed and sat down next to him.
“Harry? What are you doing?” George groaned before he opened his eyes. “Fred? Hermione? Am I dreaming?” George asked as he rubbed his eyes.
“No twin-o-mine. I'm really here.” Fred said with a grin. George didn't hesitate as he jumped out of bed and tackled him to the ground.
“What's going on?” Harry's sleepy voice came from behind Fred's bed. Harry’s head popped over the bed and saw Hermione staring at him.
“Hermione? Hermione!” He cried and leaped over the bed and flung himself around her, only a little more carefully than George did. “Are you okay?” Harry asked as he cupped her face looking at her for any signs of pain.
“I'm alright.” Hermione chuckled. She glanced over at the twins who finally sat up straight as Fred rubbed his legs. “Fred?”
“Just a little sore.” He said as he kept rubbing.
“I think that's normal for lying in bed for over a month.” George said with a sly grin. Hermione and Fred looked at each other in surprise before they cried out.
“A MONTH?”
Before either one could answer, the door flew open. All the other Weasleys stood in the doorway, wands at the ready. All the wands fell to the floor with a clatter the moment they saw the four of them sitting between the two beds.
Ginny was the first one to recover and ran up to Hermione when Harry sat her down on Fred's bed. Followed by Fred and George, the former planting himself right next to her.
“Hi, Ginny.” Hermione smiled as she hugged her back. “Before you ask, I'm okay.”
Molly hurried herself over as she wrapped her arms around Fred. “My boy.” She whispered as she cried on his shoulder.
“Hi, mum. I'm fine just a bit parched.” Like he thought, Molly straightens immediately and softly padded his cheek.
“I'll make us all a batch of tea. Let's go downstairs and talk.” Molly walked out of the room and down the stairs, the rest of them came over and hugged them tight before following Molly.
“Can we get a minute?” Fred asked his twin. George hesitated for a moment before he got up and followed Harry outside. Fred turned to Hermione and grabbed her hand. “Do you remember?”
“Yes.” She said with a shaky breath. “I remember everything.”
“Are we going to tell them?” Fred asked as he glanced at the door.
“I don't know.” She bit her lip. “Maybe not everyone, not everything, not just yet. We can tell George if you want. I'm not sure about Harry. I hate lying to him, but he feels guilty enough already.”
“Let's just see how thing go downstairs and see from there.” He leaned over and kissed her cheek. A knock came from the door and Harry and George poked their heads in.
“You two ready?” George asked as he walked in. Hermione and Fred nodded and stood up, but both wobbled on their knees. Harry instantly wrapped his arm around her waist while George did the same with Fred. They slowly made their way to the living room and Harry placed Hermione on the couch next to Fred. Harry sat on her other side while George positioned himself next to his twin. Molly walked back in with two trays floating behind her. One with tea and twelve cups on it, the other filled with sandwiches.
“Here you go, dears.” Molly smiled at the newly woken pair. “Drink up.”
They both accepted the hot cup of tea and drank it slowly, their throats sore from the lack of liquids for over a month.
“So, you two are finally detached.” Bill grinned at them.
“What?” Fred and Hermione asked in unison.
“After what happened.” Bill looked at Hermione. “We couldn't separate you. The magic that saved Fred, linked you two together. Your hands were intertwined from the moment you became comatose.”
“Oh.” Hermione blushed as she ducked her head. Even Fred's ears turned a bit red as Bill grinned at them. Molly was nervously tapping her foot as she glanced between her and Fred.
“Can someone explain to me what happened?” Molly asked impatiently.
“I wish we could.” Hermione started.
“I can't remember a thing after the --” Fred choked on the last word of his sentence. Hermione reached over and wrapped her hand around his. He glanced sideways to her and gave her a small smile.
“The only thing I can think of is it had something to do with these.” Hermione held up both their hands and showed them their wristbands. Bill and Fleur raised their eyebrows at each other before they came forward.
“Can I?” Fleur asked as she pointed at the bracelets. They both nodded and Fleur and Bill took a seat on the coffee table in front of them.
“Fleur and I have been researching the golden light and the bracelets over the past month.” Bill said as he took Fred's hand while Fleur took Hermione's. They both felt a little emptier with the loss of touch. They tried to remove the bracelets from their arms but to no avail. They took their wands out and cast different spells on them. Both eyebrows shot up when una in perpetuum appeared on the bracelets for a second before it disappeared.
“What was that?” Ginny asked as she sneaked up behind the young married couple, looking at their wrists. Fleur and Bill jumped a little as they were busy staring at her and Fred.
“Uhm..” Bill started unsure.
“It said soulmates.” Hermione whispered as she dropped her gaze at her hand the moment Fleur had let go.
“Soulmates.” The word was whispered around the room. She felt Harry's eyes on her.
“But they – Ron – where did you get it?” Molly stumbled.
“Mum, Hermione is just my friend. Best friend.” Ron smiled at Hermione.
Bill turned to his mother and the rest of the Weasleys. “Soulmates, it is very old magic. It doesn't happen often. Soulmates find one another in each life, they always find a way back to each other.”
“You found the bracelets when you were sixteen right, or the bracelets found you?” Fleur said with a French accent.
“Yeah, I found it when George and I were hiding from Filch. I felt drawn to it. I didn't know it was there, but I walked straight up to it.”
“You see...” Fleur said as she looked from the pair to the rest of the Weasley clan. “When soulmates turn sixteen the bracelets appear, no one knows from where they come or how it works but they do. I don't know for sure, but I think when Hermione went to Fred, to say her goodbyes the bracelets connected, bringing him back.”
“But how?” Harry asked. Fred and Hermione looked at each other before staring back at the curse breakers.
“Over a hundred years ago in Egypt something similar happened. A girl died of the flu and when the doctor came to take her away a light appeared around them, and the girl woke up. Not much more is known but the two of them never met before. It was their second chance.”
“So, you think it's because they didn't have a chance in this lifetime, the bracelet brought the girl back, brought Fred back?” Charlie asked as he looked from Fleur to her and Fred.
“Oui.” Fleur nodded and smiled sweetly at Hermione.
“Whatever it means, we're just happy you're back.” Arthur said with tears in his eyes as he stood up and walked over to Fred. Fred came to his feet and hugged his father tight. Molly too came over and wrapped her arms around the both of them. Molly looked over her shoulder and gestured for Hermione to join them. Hesitantly she walked over and Mr. Weasley held out one arm, so she was squished between him and Fred. After a moment George joined and then the rest of the family including Harry and Fleur joined the group hug.
“Now let's give them some room. I think they have a lot to talk about” Mr. Weasley said as he cleared his throat and placed his hand on the back of his wife and led her up the stairs, followed by the rest of the family. Ron, Harry and Ginny both gave Hermione a long hug before sauntering up to their room. George waggled his eyebrow at his twin before he disappeared out the room.
“Come here.” Fred gently took her hand and led her to the couch. “How are you feeling?” He searched her eyes looking for any discomfort, fear, anything really.
“I'm okay, really. I should ask you that.” She chuckled.
Fred waved her off. “I'm brilliant. Strange we lost a whole month but other than that.”
“Yeah, that is strange. It just felt like an hour or so.” Fred hummed in agreement before he asked.
“Hermione? How do you feel about this, us?” Fred asked uncertain.
“It's new.” She looked in Fred's eyes. “Since the bracelets connected us, every time I lose your touch it feels like something is -”
“Missing.” They said at the same time.
“I feel the same. It's weird because we don't really know much about each other and still, I already feel like I can't live without you.”
“Yeah.” She said as she played with his fingers. “Maybe we should do something about that.” She grinned as she looked up.
“I'm not following.” Fred said with a slight frown.
“Frederick Gideon Weasley, would you do me the honour of going on a date with me?” Hermione asked theatrically. Fred's eyebrows shot up in surprise at the way she asked him.
“Oh, I think we're perfect for each other.” He grinned before he swooped down and kissed her. Hermione's hands automatically wrapped around his neck and pulled him closer, deepening the kiss. “I could get used to this.” He whispered when they pulled apart. “And before I forget or kiss you again.” He winked at her which made Hermione laugh. “I would love to go on a date with you, love.”
And that was when the first day started of his promise to make her laugh at least once a day.

Title: The Long Run

Word count: 2,198
Rating: T
Summary: Draco and his parents escaped. But he finds himself going back to Hogwarts anyway.
Draco was tired. The grime had settled on his face and the rest of him, traces of a battle he never wanted to be a part of. The mud had sunken onto the soles of his boots like gunk on a gumshoe trudging through the streets of London on a particularly muggy day.
Malfoy Manor felt empty. Moreso than it had been before. Dobby had not been their house-elf for years, but even his presence would have been welcome.
Instead, Draco listened to the echoing silence. The dark, intricate green tiles lined the walls in arching patterns. The sound bounced off of them only when his heels clicked on the floor.
His arms still trembled. His legs wobbled with a burning sensation he had forgotten still stayed. He could hear the shouts of his parents as they sprinted through the Forbidden Forest, dodging the plants and the unforgiving creatures that cast their shadows upon them.
They had not spoken for hours, instead relying on their breaths and steady footfalls to guide them.
It was only when they had been far enough away from Hogwarts Castle that his father had linked arms with his mother and they apparated away together. As a family.
They never had been a proper one. Not until he had seen the fear on their faces as the Dark Lord smiled that smile. How he raised his black wand, moving in the same kind of diving pattern a dragon would when he prepared to snatch up his prey.
"Oh, Draco," his mother had whispered in his ear. "Oh, my son." Her breaths were oddly cold on his clammy skin. Even though he knew she meant them, he had been so far away from her for too long to know what a mother's love was.
They had made it home.
