hobbits are just Midwesterners, unable to stop saying goodbye to each other even though they both know they’re going to be late for something happening at complete opposite ends of the Shire

"The Last Goodbye" Pippin animatic! The fact that Billy Boyd sings The Last Goodbye always makes it feel like a 'missing Pippin song' to me. The line "I saw the light fade from the sky" always reminds me of the moment in Gondor where Pippin sees the stars vanish behind the clouds of Mordor. This animatic is also directly based on/is a study of shots in ROTK-- so if you're really Deep Into It you might be able to pick out exactly what specific scenes I'm referencing. I may continue drawing out the full song, but I've had this opening bit in my head very vividly for a while.

Bless Billy Boyd.
I binged the LOTR and The Hobbit trilogies over these two days and the credit song is Billy Boyd singing "The Last Goodbye".
I watch LOTR multiple times a year. I love this trilogy. But I haven't watched The Hobbit since their initial release and hearing that song at the end just really solidified that the journey was over and it hit me hard. That is the best feeling and the worst. That something you love and followed over many years finally comes to an end.
And omg don't get me started on the official music video. A collage of scenes from all six movies. But what really had me just CRYING were the behind the scenes of actors and crew laughing, working, and hugging their goodbyes. I'm a mess right now.
Just a perfect song to say goodbye to an amazing adventure.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ACTOR BILLY BOYD.
Born on August 28th, 1969 in Glasgow,as early as 16, Billy Boyd appeared in a local musical company’s production of Hans Anderson, Billy Boyd is an actor and musician perhaps singularly best known for his role as the hobbit Pippin in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
Both his parents died when he was in his early teens, a year apart. Along with his older sister, Boyd was raised by his grandmother. He worked as a bookbinder for seven years before finally pursuing an acting career.
Starting his acting career, as I often post here, Billy appeared in the popular Scottish Police show Taggart, as well as the Lord of the Rings, and their follow up films, The Hobbit, the talented Boyd also wrote and performed the song “The Last Goodbye” from the movies. Billy also made a cameo appearance in the first series of Still Game. He played the part of Davie in the excellent film “Sunshine on Leith”.
Outlander fans will know Billy from his role in the show as the local lawyer in Cross Creek.
Billy has a home in Glasgow and married his wife, Alison McKinnon at Oran Mor in Glasgow’s West End in 2010, they have a son, Jack.
Billy has been in the movies, Walking with Herb and An Intrusion, as well as guest appearances in NCIS: Hawai'i and Doom Patrol. Billy will seems to be picking up parts in US TV shows here and there, voicing a part in The Legend of Vox Machina last year. Again I will mention the Glasgpwset film I feel Fine is still"in development" A minis series Washington Black is also a projecthe has been workingon.
Billy recently commented that he refuses to take scripts which mock Scottish accents, calling out the “stereotypical” treatment of Scottish accents in the film industry, saying jokes about not understanding it are “overdone”.
Boyd has claimed that he will refuse any script which employs the trope where the accent is incomprehensible, something he says that always pops up in the roles he is sent. Boyd went on to say;
“I hate people saying they can’t understand what I’m saying … As a Scottish actor, every script I get that’s got a Scottish character in it, there’s always the gag that somebody can’t understand them. Always.
“Anything I do now, if that gag’s in it, I say I won’t do it. The gag is overdone and not realistic. It’s just like, stop being stereotypical, you know? Just because someone has a different accent.
“So for the writers who write that gag, I apologise when I lose my mind in the writing room. It’s just that I’ve read it so many times.”

I finished Battle of the Five Armies today and I was sat crying at the end but not just because Thorin, Fili and Kili died and all the films are over even though that was sad but because of The Last Goodbye sung by Billy Boyd in the credits because it was my grandad’s funeral song 😭😭

There are few movies that make me watch the credits theme song just for the music, but the Hobbit Trilogy had wonderful end-credits songs that I not only listened to the end, but I would also look for said theme to listen to on loop:
1- "Song of the Lonely Mountain" End-credits of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (performed by Neil Finn). 2- "I See Fire" End-credits of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (performed by Ed Sheeran). 3- "The Last Goodbye" End-credits of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (performed by Billy Boyd).
And the song lyrics are especially functional for each movie, and mixed new lines with original lyrics from the J.R.R Tolkien books, and I love it❤️

I rewatched all 3 Hobbit movies over the last few days and now I am emotionally devastated. I knew I would be because I always am after I rewatch them but jeezus I am UNWELL.
It's the death of Thorin, Kili, and Fili. Fili who knew what would happened and tried to save his brother and uncle and was murdered in front of Thorin. Kili who died saving Tauriel. Tauriel who's heart is now broken. "If this is love, I do not want it. Why does it hurt so much." "Because it was real." The three of them, the last in the line of Durin, dying before they got to see the restoration of Erebor. It's the sobbing sounds from Bilbo when Thorin dies in his arms. It's the feels of the end of a long and arduous journey. And adventure ending. Saying goodbye to those you come to love as family knowing you may never see them again. Returning home after being changed by the things you've seen and gone through. Back home to the life you once lived but no longer fit in. Grieving your lost friends.
Fucking hell I'm crying again. Fuck this series. I love it so much.
And fuck the three songs that play during the end credits for each movie because all three songs are amazing but they make me CRY! Especially yours Billy Boyd!!! "The Last Goodbye"?! Really!? God!
Screw it. I'm gonna go watch the Lord of the Rings movies again now. It's been a long time and clearly I like pain.
