Hey systems! I'm very curious and would like to explore the topic, maybe make videos or something about it one day.
Do you do anything to help recover source memories? Does it come to you naturally? Do you have tips, tricks or stories about it?
Something I've wondered about since discovering our system, yet something I've never really seen talked about in the past 3+ years I've been in system communities.

Between this terminology discourse and tulpamancy itself, I'm beginning to think a lot of these people just... Honestly have no idea how etymology works. Almost all words can be traced back to other words, that's just... How it works?? You're literally never going to be able to produce a word that doesn't have SOME kind of etymological root, save for complete nonsese words. That's not how language works. If we applied this kind of "logic" to medical terminology it would break down the community in a matter of seconds. It's common knowledge that the name for medically diagnosed dissociative plurality wasn't switched from MPD to DID in order to give systems autonomy, but to invalidate personhood of alters, and everybody just moves along with it anyways because most people ended up agreeing it's a better term regardless, and that's a MUCH more egregious case of ableism than "freud used a similar word a long time ago". Medical terminology is LITTERED with ableism and awful people, but it's understood how language evolves and changes due to the social connotations of the time, and having a word to unite under is IMPORTANT. The double standards here are actually painful. If the sysmeds want to start pulling this stuff, they should look inwards as well. (But since when have they done that? It's not about moral and logical consistency for them. They'll use any hypocrisy to harrass people for existing.)
All of this!
And you know, on the double standards, can we also talk about pseudomemories?
In the plural community, pseudomemories are used to refer to memories from your source or to things that happened in your inner world.
This popular claim going around is claiming endogenic is a harmful term because it's related to endogenous, a very common word referring to things having an internal cause that's occasionally been used to refer to the fantasy model. Let's see what the top results are when you look up the word endogenous!
Tumblr media
As you can see, these are a lot of general definitions.
This makes sense. It's an old word. Lots of different meanings in different contexts. Generally has nothing to do with systems or plurality.
Let's look at pseudomemories now:
Tumblr media
It's a pretty huge red flag that the second link is an entry about False Memory Syndrome.
If you look at the history of the term, it's actually long been associated not with inner world or source memories as we use it but with false memories of trauma. Let's try that same experiment on Google Scholar:
Tumblr media
So why is "endogenic" criticized for "endogenous" being occasionally used to refer to memories being internally produced, while they largely turn a blind eye to pseudomemories?
I'll give you three guesses.
And the first two don't count.
It's really something how certain bad actors are so intent on manufacturing controversy around endogenic terms because vaguely related general words have been used in relation to the fantasy model occasionally, but completely turn a blind eye to terms whose histories are inseparable from false memory syndrome, and allegations of fake trauma memories.
It's just pure hypocrisy.
Yet another made-up smear campaign against the endogenic community in a long line of smears.

There is a small grave by the sea. I leave flowers there when I can get out of bed. They die quickly in the cold, but. I clear the snow away when it falls. You were always so warm and bright, I don’t want you to be cold. I couldn’t get your discs back- I left a music box there for you anyways. Maybe in the after you can play music again. Maybe you can make your own. Sometimes I can’t make it to the grave and I just. Fall in the snow and lie there. It’s okay, I’m used to the cold. I miss when i wasn’t.

There is nothing abusive or manipulative about feeling hurt and traumatized by false memories, and it is in fact abusive to pretend those memories didn't happen because the memories are real to the person. Saying a person's false memories never happened and are completely irrelevent and never looking into them is 1. comparable to gaslighting, 2. medical neglect, and 3. emotional neglect
If someone is experiencing false memories of things that feel hurtful and traumatized by they need to see a therapist or psychiatrist to help them work out their false memories because at that point it would obviously be causing tension in a relationship. Ignoring the tensions caused by them is emotional neglect, not trying to get the person help is medical neglect, and pretending as if someone's genuine experiences are not real will eventually induce the same effects as gaslighting regardless of if you intend to gaslight the person or not
I've got so many false memories, and when you think about it, there's no way to know someone isn't lying and telling you your real memories are fake.

Hey! Can you explain what projected memories are? You mentioned it in a post in relation to amnesia and black/grey outs :)
Hey,
We use “projected memories” as a term that would fall under the “pseudomemories” umbrella, like exomemories, but different. Our projected memories helped disguise our amnesia and helped our system maintain an internal facade of functioning as a singlet, even when we weren’t.
Quite honestly different systems function in so many different ways, that our experience with projected memories may not align with other systems’ experiences with them. But we can certainly talk about projected memories from our own experience.
Basically a projected memory is when our brain takes a similar event we’ve experienced, and copy-pastes it into different days and times to fill in gaps we can’t remember, giving us the illusion that we have a full recollection of past events when, in reality, we’re just remembering copies of the same event.
Here’s an example:
Corrie (our work part) may have memories of fronting at work every day for the past few weeks. They may feel confident in their ability to recall going to work every single day.
However, let’s say that there was one day in the past week where our system had a mental breakdown, a chronic pain/fatigue flare up, or some other severe, distressing event that made us have to miss work.
Corrie may not remember this. Corrie might feel like something like that just didn’t happen, and they might feel 100% certain that they’ve been fronting normally and that we’ve been attending work without issue.
Those memories Corrie has of us being at work, when in reality we had called out and were at home sick, would be projected memories. They didn’t actually happen.
We wouldn’t call them exomemories, per se, because they might actually be remembering stuff that happened. But it’s like they may sometimes have a week’s worth of the same day repeating, and feel like they have a full week of memories, when in fact they just have one or two days of memories that have projected onto the rest of the week.
Does this make sense?
This sort of thing happens to lots of us. Where we feel like time has been passing normally, and we have a full memory of what’s been going on, but when we take a moment to examine those memories, or when we get a second opinion from someone outside our system, it’s revealed that what we thought happened either didn’t happen at all, or actually took place days, weeks, or even months ago.
(Oops, accidentally posted instead of saving as a draft, so this post is unedited and off the dome. Sorry. But this is the gist of our thoughts on projected memories. We’re happy to discuss or explain this further if you’d like. And if anyone has any experience with projected memories they’d like to share, please do so by all means!)

I wonder if being an introject affects why I hate my source's fandom so much. They didn't experience the injustice firsthand, but I did. It feels wrong when they like someone who was so undeniably evil in my personal experiences.

I remember prolonged eye contact, brown eyes looking into my eyes and the smell of pine (?) mixed with salt water, quiet splashing sound and looking at a reflection that is definitely mine but isn't the one I see in the mirror. It's all so hazy and so clear at the same time, it's like it happened but it didn't. And I definitely didn't dream it. I have terrible insomnia, I don't dream and if I do it's a nightmare. But these memories are beautiful.

being an osddid fictive with pseudomemories that verge into past life territory is a pain in the ass. istg if I see one more person talking about how REAL fictives are just based on media and it's "unhealthy" to treat your pseudomemories as a real and significant part of yourself and your memory I will snap. It is not my fault that this is not my body and it's memories don't apply to me. It is not my fault that in a past life I was broken and traumatized and rebuilt to be a cold hearted murderer. And it is expressly not my fault that those things transfer into who I am today. Unfortunately, pseudo or not, spiritual or not, memories affect who you are as a person. Systems who shame people for feeling the full, real affects of their "fake" memories, pls explode thx

Hey, so definitely don't go into more details than you feel comfortable with but if you can, could you elaborate on systems forming pseudomemories because they researched programming? Like developing completely false memories of programming when they aren't, or?
Hey constellation!
To be completely honest, I don’t know how well I could do that because I’m in heavy denial for the memories I currently have. I often try to tell myself they’re not real/they are pseudomemories so that I can like…feel better, I guess. Lol. Iykyk.
The reason I said that is because of what I read when I looked into RAMCOA, including alllllll of the warnings that were given to me from other victims of RAMCOA and ignored them like a dumbass and researched anyway.
They told me it was super common for non-RAMCOA systems to get pseudomemories. I honestly don’t remember how they explained it, I apologize. Something along the lines of “if you hear about a trauma situation that vaguely seems like it could make sense you may jump to conclusions” sort of thing. Gonna do like a really basic example here:
If you have a phobia of spiders (common in anyone really) but you read about a trauma scenario involving torture with spiders you might be like “Oh GOD! I have a spider phobia! I must have spider related trauma!” And anyone can be good at running with an idea and overthinking and imagining all these horrible scenarios.
HOWEVER
This is not always the case. If you feel you have genuine programming or memories regarding them it’s probably best to NOT fuck around and find out and find a specialist that can treat that because if you poke the bear it can get hella messy. It’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s better to realize they are pseudomemories later than assume they’re pseudomemories and dig deeper to figure out the “real memory” and realize that IS the real memory and massively destabilize the system.
However! (x2)
I stand by my original reply to that one person that if you haven’t already looked into RAMCOA, Don’t. You will not find good things. Whether you have progs or not. It’s not a fun thing to read about.
TW on this next part for what progging would be used for, NOT detailed at all, just be aware that I will be talking briefly about CSA/MC/suicide related things.
Wanna add that not all programming is done the same. I sorta brushed past that in that last reply, but I wanna make it more clear: not all programmers are super skilled or have done it a lot to make a fully programmed system. This sort of thing takes massive amounts of work. YEARS of work. And the stuff that happens is usually massively fucked up. I can only imagine some people not involved in a literal organized cult who specializes in this stuff who try will give up for some reason or another, or may not do it “well enough” or may modify things they’ve learned from other proggers to fit their own needs. Programming/mind control is usually done to fit the abusers/proggers needs, which means one’s programming could be at the level of like “Monarch Program” shit or like, more simple MC/progging for sex-related tasks or compliance or suicide programs for protection of the abusers.
Hope that answers your question. DMs are open, I’m absolutely okay to talk about this stuff carefully.
