Purge

I dream to purge my demons

demons of fear, worry, and anxiety

Those that consumed me for too long

and control me

like a child in the womb

I dream to extinguish the pyre

that they have ignited

That kept me alone, sad, and tortured

Whose flame destroyed all I was and

all I will be

I will purge them and their kindling

and offspring that infect my mind.

But I fear if I were to purge

these thoughts

I fear there will be nothing of me left

The birthmark in my eye

I read about this theory

That how your birthmark is supposed to be the reason of your death in your past life

Like if you have a birth mark on your back, maybe someone stabbed you

Like Caesar was stabbed

Maybe you were Caesar

But Caesar was stabbed in so many places

Would he have many marks

Or just the one from Brutus

Since that was the biggest betrayal

Since I have this mark in both my eyes

Protecting me from all evil

Maybe that's the reason my first instinct about a person is always right

Maybe that's the reason I have never regretted any of my friendships

Because all of them were good people

Since I have this mark in both my eyes

Protecting me from all evil

Maybe that's the reason I can't see anything unfair happening

Maybe that's the reason I always fight for what's right

Because some things are worth fighting for

Since I have this mark in both my eyes

Maybe I was peacefully sleeping when I died

Or maybe I looked at the evil haunting my people

Maybe I dived headfirst to protect them

And maybe my eyes protected me up until the end

Qué va a ser de los poemas que te escribí en algún momento, a escondidas de quién los vas a leer mientras pensás en mí luego de tu polvo mañanero. Qué va a pasar con todas las veces que nos dijimos adiós y no nos logramos olvidar, con los corazones que rompimos en el camino, con las idas y vueltas, con la nostalgia que ahora me toma. Qué vas a hacer si ni aquí supiste qué.

No sé si vayás vos a regresar, si por la cabeza se te va a cruzar volver aquí, de volverlo  a intentar, pues por lo pronto yo me dispongo a despedirme, a des-pedirme. Te dejo, por fin, sola y sin las ideas sexistas que siempre me recriminaste, pues me llevo todo lo que no te di a otro lado, a otra cama: a una más acogedora, a una más caliente y platicadora. Te dejo, por fin, sin la falta que te di.

Quién sabe qué vaya a ser de vos, si por fin te rindás y volvás a entregarte a los hombres altos, de carros gordos, billeteras anchas y cabezas vacías, quién sabe si después de esto volvás a hacer lo que tanto me duele pensar, ojalá y sepás que te quise como a un río, que me desbordé a tu orilla y todo fue tanto que tuve que compartirlo, que nadie elige su naturaleza, pero que fue tu elección amar la vida salvaje, esa que en su momento vivió con la gana de hacerte  la reina de selva. Pero hoy por fin nos vamos, y lo digo en plural, porque sé que vos también, que si no te vas de aquí, me voy de ti. Que te quise, que te quiero, que detesto la imposibilidad de estar, que te veo como quien ve esas bromas que se hacen secreto. Como que voy a extrañar tu voz. Como cada día vi cómo te fuiste apagando y no hice nada porque la impotencia que me enraizaste al alma nadie la ha podido quitar.

Quizá solo pasa que hoy ordené mi cuarto, saqué mi ropa y la basura, tal vez es solo cuestión de una nueva temporada y de nuevos comienzos. Quizá no es más cuestión que de acostumbrarse a algo y a alguien más, a otras manos, y a una nueva forma de querer, a un día sin peleas y a la sensación de volar otra vez, aunque no sea tanto alto como antes, aunque no sea contigo. Quizá no es más que la valentía de perder, del arrepentimiento de hablar de amor como si hubiera sabido de qué estaba hablando cuando hablaba de vos. Hoy, por lo menos, no es más que el día inaugural de la temporada del olvido.

24th August 1580, birth of English poet John Taylor, who called himself "The Water Poet", due to his dual profession as a poet and Thames boatmen, ferrying passengers across the River Thames in London. Due to his ferrying of actors and playwrights, he became known to the literary society of London, as well as gaining notoriety for his eccentric travelling: including sailing from London to the Kentish Coast in a paper boat with two dried codfish tied to canes for oars.
