hey, u ok?

trembling fears cracking like the old paint on the walls in your grandmas living room. Paint another layer on top to forget it’s already rotten underneath.

Being alone can be sad, but having too many needs suppressing you from the outside making you squad in the corner of your bedroom... is quite depressing too.

The act of balance is hard to master but once conquered, life may be at peace. Or at least that’s what legends say.

It’s been a while since I’ve felt truly happy on my own but the constant dependence on other people’s attendance is pushing me down making me question if this friendship is even balanced after all.

Because if it would be, why am I crying in the bathtub drowning myself in alcohol and sadness until the sun rises again and only the blue bags under my eyes will tell you a story about the little girl who just wanted to be independent and free once she grew old.

Inspired by @theimtiredproject ❤️💛🧡🖤 a beautiful initiative highlighting micro-aggressions, stereotypes, and discrimination. ____ The climate is warm enough to wear shorts for 3/4 of the year in Mexico City, so it confused me at first why I was one of the only females doing it. It didn’t take long to realize why women shy away from it. Walking around with skin showing leaves us vulnerable to endless catcalls, whistles, sexist comments, staring, and sometimes even grabs. The culture here is macho by nature still in 2018, meaning it is considered acceptable to treat women showing skin this way. I’m told if I don’t like it, I should just cover up. The culture of this is so deeply implanted that the stares don’t stop at just the men; women do it to, as if I am violating some civil contract. But I don’t want to stop wearing shorts because of sexual harassment. I want men to be taught that it isn’t ok to sexually harass women. Refraining from wearing what we want will never incite this change. Also, refraining from wearing shorts because of the way men act is a restriction of our freedom. I am tired of feeling uncomfortable every time I go outside in shorts. I should not have to feel uncomfortable nor unsafe for something innocent and harmless. Aside from the mental discomfort, why should I feel physically uncomfortable wearing clothing that is meant for cold weather when it is warm out, just because men can’t control themselves to not whistle or grab or call me mami? We are conscious, intelligent beings, men and women alike, so it is not to much to ask that that consciousness and intelligence be exercised so that we can ALL be free.
