February, 2028
“Bambi, tell your husband to stop being a wuss.”
“Wuss?” Joel shifted to look around you to his little brother. “Who you callin’ a wuss?”
“Think I’ll call my brother-in-law a dumbass instead,” you smirked over toward Tommy. “Seems more accurate.”
“You tellin’ me we shouldn’t be following that path there?” Tommy nodded toward a worn spot in the snow on the other side of the river where the three of you had stopped, sitting astride your horses. “The one that looks like it could’ve been made by a dozen fuckin’ men?”
“Who knows how old that is,” Joel said. “Been weeks since it snowed. And water’s lookin’ high. Would be real easy to end up cold and wet for no damn reason…”
“Seem awful scared of winding up cold and wet for someone who’s not a wuss,” Tommy teased.
“I don’t want my wife,” Joel stressed the word and you smiled a little, tucking your chin into your chest to hide it. “Being cold and wet and getting sick because you’ve got some harebrained idea that we need to run down some track that’s long dead.”
“Bambi, c’mon,” Tommy said. “You know I’m right, you know the horses can handle it and you know Joel’s just bein’ paranoid because you’re here.”
Joel wasn’t about to tell Tommy that he was right. At least, not while he was out on his first patrol since the incident in November. It would just worry you, might make you drag him back to Jackson before patrol was done. But Tommy was right. Joel had been nervous all day, worrying about seeing you hurt. Worrying that, whoever had been after him would hurt you, too. That wasn’t something he could abide at any time but now that you were his wife, it was more vital. It felt different somehow.
A lot of things did.
Not that there had been much tangible change since the two of you had said your vows that night in Joel’s bed. Since the attack, you hadn’t slept at your own house even once, you were already living together in every way that mattered. Ellie and Savvy had become like sisters in the few months that Savvy had been in Jackson, you like a mother to his daughter and him like a father to yours. And Joel had always been driven to protect you, from the first moment he saw you he knew he would do damn near anything to keep you safe. But the sense of peace and permanence he had calling you his wife made life alongside you another thing entirely. Protecting and caring for you was all the more necessary now.
The girls had taken the news well, all things considered. Joel hadn’t really been worried about Ellie’s reaction, of course. You were the closest thing she had to a mother and lord knew the girl had been working overtime trying to shove you and Joel back together after you’d left.
But he could tell you’d been worried about telling Savvy.
“That ring fittin’ OK?” He asked as he brought you a cup of coffee in bed just as the sun started to rise on Christmas morning.
“Hm?” You looked up at him from your spot nestled into the pillows, chest bare and blankets over your lap like they had been the night before as the two of you made promises to each other. The hand that was twisting your ring around and around on your finger stilled.
“You’re fidgetin’ something fierce there, Mrs. Miller,” he smiled a little and handed you the cup of coffee. “Wanted to know if that ring was fittin’ OK or if you were just getting cold feet on me.”
“It fits great,” you smiled a little over the coffee cup, taking a sip. “And no, no cold feet.”
“Alright,” he said, sitting in bed beside you in nothing but his pajama pants. His fingers trailed up the bare skin of your arm. “Then I think you should tell me what’s on that pretty mind of yours.”
“You’re gonna get us in trouble, touching me like that,” you said, taking another sip of coffee. “Girls will be here soon…”
“Oh I can be quick,” he teased. “But I’d rather not rush our wedding… well, morning…”
You rolled your eyes but laced your fingers with his, brushing his ring as you did.
“Talk to me,” he said, turning serious. “Don’t want to start this off with secrets.”
“It’s not a secret,” you sighed, looking at his hand for a moment longer before looking him in the eye. “But… I don’t want to hurt Savvy. I want this with you more than almost anything else. The only thing I want more is for her to be OK. I just don’t know how to tell her.”
Joel nodded slowly, watching you.
“Want to do it together?” He asked gently. You raised your eyebrows. “I don’t want to get in the way of anything but I don’t want you thinkin’ you’re in this alone because you’re not. That’s the whole point.”
You laughed once and then sighed.
“It might help,” you said after a moment. “I think she likes you more than she likes me.”
“Don’t think that’s true,” he said. “She’s just… dealing with some complicated things. And there ain’t a real guidebook for regular parenting, let alone how you raise a kid after the world ends. She loves you. She really does.”
“Should we tell the girls together then?” You asked, looking uncertain.
“I think, if you’re OK with that?” Joel shrugged. “Yeah. I’d like to do that with you.”
You smiled a little and the two of you adjusted in bed so that you were in his arms, your skin soft against his. You finished your coffee and got dressed just before the clatter of teenaged girls took over the house not long after.
Joel kept you tucked against his side as the two of you watched the girls open their gifts, his lips brushing your temple and giving you a squeeze when he could sense you getting tense. He gathered the two of them that afternoon as the four of you got ready to head to Tommy and Maria’s for dinner, your hands stuffed into the back pockets of your jeans as you paced the kitchen until Ellie and Savvy were there and you joined him at his side.
“What’s up?” Ellie frowned, looking between the two of you.
“Well,” Joel said gently. “We were hopin’ to talk to you girls about something…”
“Oh God,” Ellie groaned. “Please tell me no one’s doing anything stupid…”
“Nothin’ stupid,” Joel smiled a little, slipping an arm through yours to curve around your back and tug you close to his side. You looked up at him for a moment but he didn’t need to look back to know that you were on the verge of panic. He could feel it, your whole body was tense, your breaths short and shallow. “Something real good, actually. We wanted the two of you to know before anyone else but… well, we decided to get married.”
“Oh shit!” Ellie’s eyes went wide for a minute. “Congrats! It’s about damn time, honestly.”
Savvy, however, was silent. She looked between the two of you, her brows drawn together, a small frown on her face before she stalked out of the room.
You pulled away from Joel immediately and he went to follow you but you put up a hand and shook your head before chasing her down.
“Shit,” Ellie, said quietly, staring out the back door that you and Savvy had just left through. Joel clenched his jaw for a moment, resisting the urge to go find you no matter how badly he might want to.
“Still a sore subject for her, huh?” Joel asked Ellie after a moment.
She sighed.
“I really wish Bambi would give her some idea of what happened,” she said. “Because she really seems to think that she had some kind of easy fucking time… She asked me a little bit about it after you both got back last month. I guess she overheard the doctors talking but I didn’t know what to fucking say. I don’t think she’s actually pissed about the two of you. I think she’s pissed at the idea that she was on her own while her mom was having some happy life here.”
Joel sighed for a moment before giving in and following you out the back door. You were standing in the snow, halfway back to Ellie’s place, your back to him as you focused on Savvy.
“Don’t let me get in the way of whatever dream life you’re tryin’ to have here,” her tone was sharp. “Didn’t let me hold you back before…”
“That’s not what this is,” you said, calm and steady. But Joel could hear the pain on your voice.  “You’re the most important thing in the world to me and…”
“You’ve got a funny way of showing that!”
Savvy noticed him then, narrowing glaring at him for a moment. You looked back over your shoulder to him, your eyes large and round and watery. He came up behind you, a hand going to the small of your back as he pressed himself against your shoulder.
“Baby girl,” Joel said gently. “I know this is something that’s big…”
“No shit,” she snapped in a way that was so Ellie that Joel considered talking to the older girl about how she spoke around the younger one.
“But,” he continued. “You and Ellie are our number one priority. Always have been…”
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, looking into the distance instead of at either one of you.
“Us getting married is just about me and Joel,” you said, pressing yourself back into him. “It doesn’t mean we’re choosing each other over you, it doesn’t mean we love you any less. It just means we wanted to make that commitment to each other, that’s all.”
She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment before looking back at you.
“So what does this mean, then?” She asked. “What’s going to change?”
You looked up at Joel for a moment before looking back to her.
“Not a lot, really,” you said. “We haven’t really talked about where we’re going to live but that’s not too different from how things have been the past few weeks. No one here uses my real name, anyway, and you have your father’s last name, not mine, so even if I did decide to take Joel’s name, it wouldn’t change anything for you.”
She nodded slowly, considering. Joel marveled, for a moment, at how your daughter held her face just like you when she was thinking, the same purse to her lips, the same scrunch of her brow. You’d passed on so much to her even if you didn’t give her your blood.
“Think you can be OK with this?” You asked gently after a moment. “I don’t want to hurt you, honey. I love you more than anything, I don’t want you to be unhappy, especially not because of me.”
“I don’t want you to be unhappy, either,” Savvy said quietly. “I just… I still don’t really get this place. I’m making friends, I’m going to school but… it’s all so different. I still don’t know how I feel about any of it.”
“I know,” you said quietly, reaching out and cupping your daughter’s cheek. Joel held his breath for half a moment, until he realized that she wasn’t going to pull away from your touch. “And I’m sorry I didn’t find you sooner or get you here when you were smaller and it would have been easier.”
“I don’t want to be angry,” she said, her voice thick and wet. “I’m so tired, Mom.”
“I know,” you said again, pulling her into you and holding her to your chest. She was stiff for a moment before relaxing into you, her arms going around your waist. “I know, baby.”
It got easier after that. At least on the surface. Savvy was still distant but she didn’t seem to be as antagonistic as she had been before. You moved into Joel’s house - though you traded the sound system at your house for Joel’s - and you set up one of the bedrooms upstairs for Savvy, even though she was still living at Ellie’s.
“At some point, Ellie is going to need her space,” you said, moving the twin sized bed for the fourth time, the wood groaning across the floor as you shoved it into a new place. “She’s a grown woman now…”
“Rather not think about that,” Joel grumbled, even though he’d been trying to find a way to talk to Ellie about her friendship with Jesse in particular. They seemed… close. And who knew what  she’d been taught in that damn FEDRA school.
“Think about it or not,” you said, standing back, hands on your hips as you looked at your handiwork. “It’s comin’ for you. She’s going to want to actually live an adult life and that means adult space. Would rather her not feel like she needs to move out of the backyard right away to have that. So… Savvy can just come here.”
Joel thought it was a bit optimistic to think that Savvy would be willing to come here, but he couldn’t bring himself to say that. You were finally showing signs of hope about your relationship with your daughter. You’d been suffering with her so far away. You had done a good job of hiding it - he doubted anyone but him had noticed - but you couldn’t keep going like that, not forever. He didn’t want to ruin it, not now.
Your hopeful nature around Savvy was just another way the world seemed to be changing. The patrols outside Jackson were reporting more and more signs of people and, with them would come more infected. Patrols were starting to pick up and Joel felt the push to make himself useful again with more urgency than ever.
While Jackson was filled with incredibly skillful riders and hunters, Joel knew he was one of the best. Many of the folk here had lived a life that didn’t involve much struggle - at least, relatively speaking - after the outbreak. He’d survived with blood and he was more than willing to shed some more to protect his home and his family. Sitting on the sidelines, lame and useless, didn’t suit him.
He’d learned to avoid the gates and the stables when patrols were coming and going, not wanting to look at the men and women who got to go out and actually make themselves useful with envy that was rooted in the self loathing that had started to bloom inside of him.
He started going to talk to the doctors at least once a week, seeing if he’d made enough progress to start going outside the walls of the city again. It was slow going. Getting approved for sex and lighter work around town was one thing. Getting the OK to go outside and hunt down raiders was - apparently - another matter entirely. But, eventually, he got a hesitant OK from both doctors.
Joel got them to put it in writing - feeling only a little bit like a school boy taking a report card home to his mother - and headed straight for the stable to show you. You were working with a horse, one that had been foaled in Jackson right around the time he’d first found you in the snow. It was old enough now that you could work with it, accustomed enough to people that you’d told him you thought you’d be able to get the horse to broke fast. He stood and watched you for a bit, you standing beside her and getting her used to someone putting pressure on her body to guide her, talking to her in that gentle voice you used when working with animals.
“You gonna just stand there and watch, cowboy?” You asked after a few minutes, not looking over your shoulder to him but Joel knew you were smiling all the same. “Or is there something I can do for you?”
“Man need a reason to come look at his wife?” He asked. You twisted look at him at that and he was right, you were smiling. “I don’t think he does. Not when she’s as pretty as you, anyway.”
“Uh huh,” you looked back to the horse, giving her a treat of some kind. “Feel like you’re tryin’ to butter me up over there.”
“Maybe,” he shrugged. “Or maybe I just needed to look at ya for a minute.”
“Gimme five minutes,” you said, throwing a mischievous look over your shoulder. “Then maybe you can do more than look.”
Joel laughed a little and watched you finish up with the horse before you led her inside and put her in her stall, him trailing behind you. In all honesty, he was happy to watch you work. You were so good with them, you cared so deeply. It was enthralling in the best possible way, just the physical manifestation of one of the infinite reasons he loved you.
You latched the stable door when you were done with the horse and stood close to Joel, taking his shirt by the fistful and pulling him against you so you could kiss him. He was happy to let you, one of his hands finding your face to hold you in just the right spot so he could dip his tongue into your mouth while you moaned against his lips.
“Before this goes too far,” he said after pulling back from you. “Should talk about something…”
“Should we?” You asked, tugging him against you for another kiss.
“Mhmm,” he hummed against your mouth. You released him and stepped back a little, frowning. He smiled a little. “S’nothing bad, don’t gotta look so worried about it.”
“Alright,” you said, a hint of challenge in your voice. “Then what is it?”
“Well,” he said, holding your gaze and trying to shake the feeling that he’d done something he shouldn’t have. “Talked to the doctors…”
Your eyes narrowed.
“And they’ve OKed me to go out on patrol again…”
“GodDAMMIT Joel!” You stomped away from him, back to him, arms crossed. He gave you a moment to seethe, his hands in his pockets, thumbs drumming a stuttering rhythm on the denim. After a few deathly quiet seconds, you turned back. “Really? You really want to go get yourself fuckin’ killed…”
“Sweetheart…”
“Are we just not enough for you?” You demanded, stalking up to him, arms still crossed tightly in front of you. “Me, Ellie, Savvy. Are we not enough? Do you need to go get some kind of goddamn adrenaline rush, is that it?”
He resisted the urge to fight you on it. Your eyes were watery and wide and pleading.
“You know that’s not what it is, baby,” he whispered. A single tear slipped down your cheek and he reached out to gently take your face in his hand, catching it on his thumb. “You’re more than enough, you’re more than I deserve. And you know I don’t want to hurt you…”
“Don’t make this about me,” you snapped. He ignored that, too.
“But we need people who can keep Jackson safe,” he said. “For you, for our girls. I can do that. You know I can…”
“You can’t if you get yourself fuckin’ killed!” You took a deep breath and centered yourself for a moment. “You’re still limping…”
“I know,” he nodded slowly. “But they think I’ll probably limp at least a little for the rest of my life. S’OK. I can ride just fine, won’t hurt me bein’ able to fight…”
“Bullshit.”
“It’ll be OK,” he said gently. “And I’m willin’ to go out with you or Tommy….”
“And,” you cut him off.
Joel frowned.
“And?”
“Me and Tommy,” you replied. “Deal’s changed. You’re limping, you can’t go out with just one of us, it has to be both.”
He sighed.
“Bambi…”
“You want me on board?” You asked. “That’s the deal.”
He sighed again.
“We can talk with Maria,” he said. “See if we have the space for it.”
“Alright,” you said “Because I’m not going to just sit here and watch you get yourself hurt or killed. That’s not what I signed up for.”
“Not what I’m asking you to do,” he said gently. “I don’t want to not come home to you, baby. But I need to make sure I’m doin’ my part to keep Jackson safe.”
It had taken a few weeks for things to line up right with patrols and Joel could feel how tense you were leading up to the day the three of you were heading out. You’d clung to him especially hard the night before. Ellie and Savvy had joined the two of you for dinner and then to play cards and you’d held it together pretty well until they left. But the second they were gone it was like a switch flipped. You pressed yourself against his side, your arms wrapped around his bicep, your head tight against his shoulder.
“You alright?” He frowned.
“Fine,” you said, voice tight.
When he took you to bed, you rode him aching and slow until you came and collapsed on top of him, Joel only lasting a few more deep thrusts into your tight heat before coming undone himself. He held you there, your head against his chest as his hand trailed a slow and easy path up and down your spine. He was still inside you when he felt your tears on his chest.
“Baby,” he said softly.
“Don’t make me come back alone,” you said, lifting your head from his chest enough to look at him, the rest of you still tight against his body. “Please, Joel. Don’t make me lose you, too.”
“Not losing me,” he held your face in his hands. “Promise.”
“You’ll always come back for me?” You whispered.
“Always,” he said softly. “I promise. As long as you promise to always be there to come back to.”
“Promise,” you said quietly.
He’d been worried about how the patrol was going to go after that, but you, him and Tommy had fallen back into your usual patterns easily once you were outside Jackson and you let yourselves relax into them a bit.
It had been an easy patrol until the three of you stopped to give the horses a chance to take a drink and saw the tracks across the river. And Joel couldn’t seem to shake the clutch of fear that gripped him at the thought of putting you in harm’s way by following the trail.
“Tommy, I swear to God, you ever hold this against me…” you began, but he cut you off.
“You’ll shoot me?” Tommy teased.
“Trample you with a horse,” you replied. “But… yeah. You’re right. We should check that trail.”
Joel gave you a look and you just looked back, your brows raised. He sighed.
“Alright,” he said. “Tommy, you take the lead since this is your damn scheme.”
“C’mon lovebirds,” he said, starting across the water. “Sooner we follow this path, sooner we can get back to town and the sooner you two can go back to leavin’ me out of whatever it is you two do.”
Joel was about to give Tommy shit but you beat him to it, lobbing a snowball at him and hitting him straight in the face. Joel barked a laugh as you tried to stifle yours, your arms crossed demurely over your saddle horn.
“Nice,” Tommy said as the snow slid off his face. “Real nice.”
“Well, say stupid shit, win stupid prizes,” you shrugged, smirking a little.
“Not cool, Bambi,” he said, wiping his face clean. “Not cool.”
“You’re right,” you replied, smirk growing. “Think it’s technically cold…”
Tommy leaned around you to look at Joel.
“You’ve had too much influence on your wife,” he said. “I remember when she was a nice girl…”
“Bullshit,” you said.
“Wouldn’t even look at someone mean…”
“Tommy, she’d have always kicked your ass whenever you did somethin’ dumb enough to ask for it,” Joel smiled, a little proud. “Now let’s move before you give ‘er another reason.”
Tommy wiped the last of the snow from his skin with a good natured shake of his head and started off. You called Gatling back into her spot on your saddle as Joel nodded for you to be in between the two of them so he could bring up the rear. At least this way, Joel or Tommy would get hit before you would.
The three of you followed the tracks for a few hours, until things shifted. You noticed it first, that the footprints in the snow looked more well traveled, like people were coming and going from this point in the forest more often than all the way to the water.
“There,” you said quietly, nodding to the brush off the trail. Joel looked where you indicated, a baited trap primed and ready.
“That ain’t been there long,” Tommy said. Joel came up alongside you, closer than he’d normally try to be when on horseback. But it kept the rising fear in him calmer, more contained. He looked around at the ground, the snow so worn down it was hard to have even a remote idea of how many people had been through here recently. Gatling gave a low, rumbling growl and you soothed her with a pet.
“We should go back,” Joel said. “Get backup…”
“That’d be wise.”
Your gun was drawn before Joel or Tommy could reach theirs and you twisted in your saddle to  look behind you. Joel turned, too, his sidearm drawn, a group of six men on foot standing about 20 feet back. Their rifles were drawn, at least two of them trained on you. Joel’s jaw clenched.
“Why don’t you folks get off those horses,” a man at the middle of the group said. “See what we can figure out.”
You glanced toward Joel before you whistled Gatling down and started to dismount before he had a chance to argue. Joel did, too, arranging himself in front of you - Tommy at his side, shielding you, too - before stepping closer to the group. Joel slung his rifle forward on his arm but kept it tilted toward the man’s legs and not his head. The man who’d spoken smirked.
“Haven’t seen you out this way before,” the man said. “Care to tell us where you’re from?”
“Not really,” Tommy said as Joel looked the group over. They were all large and broad, young and cocky. Looked to be well fed. These weren’t travelers passing through, of that he was almost certain. “You can tell us, though, seein’ as you’re traipsin’ through our territory.”
“Your territory?” The man raised his brows. “Seems like a bold claim for two men and their… pet to make.”
Tommy snapped his rifle up before Joel did.
“Say that shit about her again,” he snapped. “Fuckin’ dare you.”
Your hand went in the middle of Joel’s back, right between his shoulder blades, a gentle and grounding force, before you appeared at his side, Gatling practically glued to your calve.
“Bambi,” Joel growled, your hand trailing over his back before raising your rifle.
The man looked at you, amused.
“She’s come to play,” he smiled. “That’s good, I like ‘em with a little fight…”
“Trust me when I tell you that I’m doing you a favor, giving you the chance to deal with me,” you said, sounding almost eerily calm. “Try me and they’ll kill you. Assuming I don’t kill you first.”
Gatling growled at your feet, crouched and ready to spring.
“Now,” you said. “Where are you from.”
The man looked at you for a moment, all but licking his lips, before turning back to Joel and Tommy.
“You really let your little woman run the show?” He asked. “Can think of a lot better uses for her smart mouth…”
Gatling snarled and flattened her ears against her head. Joel’s eyes narrowed, raising his gun so it was now aimed at the man’s chest, not his legs.
“That’s my wife you’re talkin’ about,” he strained to keep his voice calm. “Now, you gonna tell us where you’re from or are you gonna make me gun you down?”
“How about this,” the man said, still seeming over confident. “You tell us where you’re from, maybe let us have a little fun with your whore wife, you go on your merry way. Otherwise, we can just kill you.”
Joel’s jaw clenched. Tommy adjusted his grip on his gun and Joel gave him a look before glancing over to you.
“Any of them look familiar?” He asked, voice dangerous and low.
“No,” you said. “Don’t know any of them.”
Joel focused back on the men.
“Good.”
He reached out an arm and swept you behind him a half second before he started shooting, Tommy following suit almost immediately. The men shot back, a bullet glancing off Joel’s shoulder as they did. You, of course refused to stay where Joel had tucked you for long. You stepped alongside him, firing, too, as Joel tried not to be distracted by the terrifying possibility of you, bleeding on the ground.
But the three of you were lucky. The men clearly hadn’t been doing this long. Joel wasn’t sure if they were just bad shots or if shooting and killing a person wasn’t something they were really comfortable with yet but either way, they’d dropped five of them, the sixth taking off, a bullet hole in his leg.
You lowered your gun.
“Gatling,” you panted before snapping and pointing toward the man. “Capture.”
She shot off like a rocket, her ears pressed flat against her head. The man was no match for her speed and she launched herself at him, her jaws clamping around the man’s bicep as she wrenched his body to the ground.
You took a deep breath and then looked to Joel’s arm, where there was now a hole in his jacket that the cold air bit through and a small spray of blood.
“Why do you always find some way to get fuckin’ shot?” You asked, your thumbs gently tracing the outside edge of the small wound.
“Just talented I suppose,” Joel smiled a little before looking over at Tommy. “You OK?”
“Fine,” he slung his rifle over his shoulder. “Should question that fucker and get the hell out of here before worse shows up.”
Joel led the way, drawing his knife. The three of you stood over the man, the same one who’d done all the talking before. He seemed much less cocky now, whimpering as Gatling growled around the meat of his arm.
“Call off your fucking dog!” He sobbed. “Fuck, please! I’ll tell you whatever you want, please!”
“Not one to give in to demands like that, but…” Joel looked at you.
“Gatling,” you said. “Release.”
The dog dropped the man’s arm and came to stand against your side, her ribs pressed to your leg. Joel caught the man’s shoulder with the toe of his boot and rolled him onto his back. He tried to sit up but Joel stopped him, pressing his foot into the wound from Gatling’s jaws on the man’s arm. He cried out as Joel forced him to the ground and Tommy kicked the man’s gun away.
“Now,” Joel said, getting down low and putting a knee at the center of the man’s chest. “You’re gonna answer some questions for us.”
***
Normally, watching Joel hurt someone would turn your stomach. It wasn’t a sight you enjoyed to begin with and you’d never seen him torture someone since you’d known how he learned how to. The fact that he had anything in common with the man bleeding on the ground made your stomach clench.
But this was different. Savvy was back in Jackson now. There were a lot of lines you were more than willing to cross to keep men like this far, far away from her. Including this one.
You rested your hand on Gatling’s head, the warmth of her fur comforting and familiar.
“Look at her,” Joel said, taking the man’s chin in his hand and forcing him to face you before looking at you himself. “You sure you don’t know him? Want to make sure I make this worse if you do.”
“I’m sure,” you said. It was oddly comforting, his threat. It was good to know that Joel was still Joel, even when doing stuff like this.
He nodded once and looked back at the man.
“Count yourself lucky,” he said. “She’s makin’ this easier for you. Now, where are you from.”
“Territory north west of here,” he panted. “In Idaho.”
“What brings you down this way?” Joel asked.
The man was silent for a moment outside of his labored breaths, his eyes closed in a wince. Joel sighed, sounding exasperated before lifting his knife.
“I’m gonna ask again,” Joel said. “Last time it’ll be nice. Why are you here.”
“Why should I tell you, hm?” The man spat. “You’re just gonna hurt me, kill me anyway, what goddamn difference does it make?”
“Now see, that’s just a bad attitude to have,” Tommy said, kneeling next to the man. He grabbed a fistful of his hair and forced his head to turn. “We can make this real hard or real easy. We got a lot of incentive to make this easy. We want to get back home to our families, don’t want to just be out here in the cold for hours on end because you’re being a goddamn dumbass. But, we have shit we need to protect. And if that means stayin’ out here while we take you apart piece by piece until you tell us what we want to know then, well, so be it.”
“Give you just a second to think about what my brother told you,” Joel said, pressing the tip of the knife to the man’s shoulder but not pushing it in. “And then you can answer now or you can answer later. Why are you here.”
The man closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep, shuddering breath before opening them again.
“There are too many of us,” he said. “Too many groups, been fighting over space for the past few years. Decided to work together for a time, find new territory to expand into. Sent us out here to see what might get in the way. Been tracking the territory of a settlement about a day’s walk from here, trying to see where we can push in and what they’ve got to push back…”
You stiffened, a chill running up your spine. Joel looked up to you, his eyes as concerned as you felt. He looked back at the man.
“How’s that been workin’?” Joel asked. “How are you tracking it?”
“We’ve been marking what we think the outside edges are,” he said. “We’ve been pushing in closer, last few months…”
“Who’re you workin’ with?” Joel asked.
“What?” The man asked, confused.
Joel sighed before pressing the knife into the man’s shoulder and he screamed.
“Don’t ask stupid questions,” Joel said. “The way you were talkin’ about my wife? I really wouldn’t mind taking my time and takin’ you apart. Who are you working with. Want names.”
“I don’t know!” He sobbed. “Swear I don’t, we run with a guy called Smith, he’s joined up with a couple other guys with groups like his, I don’t know their names…”
“Try and remember,” Joel growled, pressing the knife deeper. You winced and looked away, trying not think about Joel doing this before. Your stomach turned. “The name Mitchum ring a bell?”
“No,” the man said quickly. “Please, no, I promise I don’t know the names! Just that there are three or four of ‘em, that’s all.”
“How far out are the others you’re working with?” He asked. “They gonna be breathing down our necks any second?”
“No,” he said. “No, they’re a few days walk at least…”
Joel nodded before he reached out, brushing his fingers over the outside of your thigh, bringing your attention back to him.
“Any other questions?” He asked you. “Other names?”
“No,” you shook your head quickly. “Nothing else.”
Joel nodded, turning back to the man.
“Can’t let you live,” he said. “You’re a liability. You’re too hurt to get a message back to your people so there’s no point in risking it.”
“Fuck you,” the man spat and Joel shrugged.
“Shitty last words,” he said, pulling the knife from his shoulder before quickly slitting the man’s throat. He gasped and burbled on his own blood for a minute before he went still and quiet. Joel wiped his knife clean on the man’s shirt before sheathing it and getting to his feet. He looked to you then, his eyes wide and soft and deep.
“You with me?” He asked gently. You nodded quickly. He reached out, slowly, to take your face in his hands. His thumbs traced your cheekbones and his eyes looked into yours. “You’re OK? Not…”
“Yeah,” you said softly, cutting him off. “I’m OK.”
You weren’t sure how true that was. He pulled you against him, pressing his lips to your forehead before cradling you against him and holding you for a moment.
“Much as I’m happy you two have worked your shit out,” Tommy said. “We should get moving. Pretty sure he was tellin’ the truth but I don’t want to bet our lives on it.”
The three of you mounted up again, Gatling settling into her space on the front of your saddle.
“So,” Tommy said after you’d been riding for a bit. “Am I allowed to ask the obvious question?”
“Tommy,” Joel said, a warning on his voice.
“Look,” he replied. “Not tryin’ to hurt anyone or fuck up things between you two. But I’ve got a job to do when it comes to protecting my town and protecting my family and you two are a part of both of those things. Can’t defend from something I don’t know.”
“You don’t need -” Joel began but you cut him off.
“Mitchum was the man who held me captive for two years,” you said, staring straight ahead. Gatling gave a small whimper and you scratched her head. Tommy was quiet for what felt like a small eternity.
“He…” Tommy’s voice trailed off. “Two years?” You nodded, not able to look at him. “Two goddamn years?”
Your jaw tightened and your stomach turned.
“Two goddamn years and he ain’t dead yet?” Tommy asked, voice shifting to anger as he rounded on Joel. “The fuck have you been doing?”
“You think he’d still be breathin’ if I knew where to find him?” Joel snapped. “Ain’t that easy.”
“Should do to that fucker whatever he did to you,” Tommy said, ignoring Joel now. “Why haven’t you mentioned this before? We could’ve helped you, could’ve tried to track him down…”
“She don’t want to talk about it, Tommy,” Joel hissed. “Leave it.”
Gatling stretched up to give you a small lick on the chin.
“Joel’s right,” you said, finally making yourself look at the man who had become as much of a brother to you as the boys you’d grown up with had been. The pity in his eyes almost made you turn away. “I don’t want to talk about it. But you should know that he’s still after me. Joel and I ran into trouble on patrol before. One of the men then was one that… I knew him, from before. He said Mitchum is looking for me. He’s got a crew, at least 50 guys when I got out, and he’s looking for me.”
“Jesus,” Tommy shook his head for a moment before steeling himself. “He’s not gettin’ his hands on you. We’ll protect you, not going to let him hurt you, you understand me?”
“I know,” you said, looking straight ahead again. You tried not to think about what the man had just said. That there were groups of men like Mitchum, all bearing down on Jackson.
“Who all knows?” Tommy asked, calmer now. “About… what happened.”
“Joel,” you said, though that should have been obvious. “Ellie knows the broad strokes of it. Now you.”
“Not Savvy?” He asked, frown so evident in his voice that you looked over at him again. He looked sad and you tried not to resent him for it.
“Don’t need her having that shit in her head,” you said, looking forward again.
Tommy was silent for a few minutes.
“I’m really sorry, Bambi,” he said eventually. “You shouldn’t…”
“I don’t want your pity,” you said, harsher than you’d really meant to. “Just… forget I said anything.”
“But…”
“I said fucking forget it, Tommy.”
The rest of the ride back was quiet and you wanted to fix it. But, more than that, you wanted things to go back to how they’d been before. Where Tommy would give you shit and you’d give him shit back, not where he was going to pity you and handle you with kid gloves. You wanted him to keep being your brother, not someone who kept you at arm’s length because they kept picturing the shit that had happened to you.
Olivia was at the stable when the three of you made it back and you were almost disappointed that you wouldn’t be able to get lost in handling the horses on your own for a while. When she stepped to the side for a moment, you took a deep breath and turned to Tommy.
“I’m sorry I snapped at you,” you said, hoping that this would at least start to fix things. “I get that you need certain… information. I just don’t want you seeing me any different.”
“I don’t,” he gave you a sad half smile. “Just think you’re more badass now, that’s all.”
You scoffed but he waved you off.
“I mean it,” he said. “I do. And I’ll keep it to myself, alright?”
“Thank you,” you said and he pulled you in for a small hug.
“You might be Joel’s girl,” he said. “But you’re my sister. I’m gonna look out for you. No one’s allowed to fuck with you except me.”
You laughed a little at that, Tommy reminding you so much of Richie for a moment.
“I’ll go report out on this patrol,” he said, stepping back from you and looking to Joel. “We got some good information, it’ll help us be ready for whatever’s comin’ our way.”
Joel nodded, a concerned look on his face.
“We’ve weathered hard shit before,” Tommy said. “We can handle whatever these assholes have to throw at us. Took a lot to establish our territory here and I’m not afraid to shed a little blood to protect it.”
He set off and you, Joel and Olivia took care of everything else in near silence, Olivia just filling you in on the goings on while you were gone, seemingly unaware of any tension on the air.
“Should we go by the doctor?” You asked as you and Joel went to leave, your arms tight across your chest. “See if you need stitches or anything?”
“No,” he replied, draping an arm over your shoulders and tugging you closer to press a kiss to your temple. “It’s nothing too bad. Just want to get home.”
You just nodded and let him guide you home, walking in silence, the looming threat from the man Joel had questioned keeping your mind far away.
But when Joel opened the front door, you weren’t met with a quiet living room. Instead, Ellie and Savvy were sitting on the floor around the coffee table, Uno cards fanned out in their hands.
“Should never have told you how the draw cards work,” Ellie was muttering, her back to you and her already sizable hand growing as she drew from the deck in the middle of the table.
Savvy looked up as the door knob thudded into the wall, her eyes finding yours. Her face lit up like she was happy to see you - actually happy to see you.
“Mom!” She dropped her cards and jumped up. “You’re back!”
She ran over to you but stopped short of hugging you, looking you up and down before looking at Joel, too.
“Are you guys OK?” She asked, a little more reserved now, more how you were used to seeing her over the past few months. “Everyone made it through and stuff?”
“We’re fine,” you smiled, trying to actually be in the room with her instead of worrying about the threat of raiders on the horizon. It was easier, knowing that she actually wanted you there. “Is everything OK? What are you two doing here?”
“You were gone a little long,” she bit her lip and shoved her hands in her back pockets. “We just… we wanted to make sure you got home.”
You smiled, reaching out to tuck the stray curl that always popped out from her braids behind her ear. It was an automatic thing, a gesture you’d done countless times since she was a toddler. It didn’t occur to you until your fingers were almost brushing her skin that she might pull back from you now. But she didn’t. She let you touch her, adjusting her hair and cupping her cheek.
“Missed you,” you said quietly.
She smiled. It was tight, a little hesitant, but it was a smile.
“I missed you, too.”
Ellie had gone to the mess hall and brought back dinner for you and Joel and the two of you ate as Ellie and Savvy got Monopoly set up at the kitchen table. The four of you played a game, you paying more attention to explaining things like rents and mortgages and how they’d worked in the real world to Savvy. She crinkled her nose, the concept of money and paying to live inherently foreign to her. Joel kept a hand on your knee for most of it, his thumb tracing a gentle pattern there as you let Savvy clean you out, a small smile on your face every time you had to pay her.
“Well, some of us have to be up early tomorrow,” Ellie said, stretching, back arched like a cat after she won the game. “C’mon Savvy.”
“Yeah, alright,” Savvy yawned and tried to stifle it before getting to her feet.
“It was good to see you,” you said, crossing your arms to keep from reaching for her. “Thank you for staying a while.”
“Yeah,” she smiled, small but not as tight as it had been lately. “It was good to see you, too.”
She looked at you for a moment before hesitantly stepping closer. You lowered your arms and forced yourself to keep them at your sides until she reached for you, hugging you. You slowly, cautiously, hugged her back, tears pricking at the corners of your eyes as you held her close. She felt so foreign but so familiar all at once. You’d never had a chance to truly get used to holding her in the body she’d grown into in the years you were apart but she was still so her, smelling and moving the same as she always had.
You held onto her until she pulled away, her awkwardly staring down at your shoes before clearing her throat.
“Well…” she said. “Goodnight Mom. Joel.”
“Night,” Joel said, coming up alongside you, one of his large hands splaying wide over the small of your back.
“Goodnight,” you smiled a little, your voice wet.
Ellie gave you an encouraging look and followed Savvy out the back door and into the yard. You just stood there, watching them go, until they were inside the shed and the light turned on there.
“Hey,” Joel said quietly from beside you. You turned enough to look at him. He was watching you closely, frowning slightly. “How we doin’?”
You frowned.
“I’m fine,” you said. “Not really sure what you’re asking…”
“Well,” he looked off to the side for a moment before steeling himself and looking back to you with a heavy sigh. “Back when you first came back to me… You said you might need space sometimes. Today… There was a lot that happened, I had to do some shit that I’m sure ain’t easy to watch and… baby, if you need some distance from me…”
“Joel,” you said softly, twisting in his gentle hold so your front was pressed against his. You reached up and trailed your fingers through his curls.
“Want to give you whatever it is you need,” he said as your hands came to rest on his broad chest. He took your wrist gently in his palm and brought it to his lips pressing a kiss into your pulse point. “Even if that’s time away from me.”
“I don’t want that,” you said. “I just want to know you’re here.”
He pulled you a little closer, the hand that was on your wrist trailing down your arm before curling around your back.
“Why don’t we go get cleaned up,” he said, voice low, before leading you upstairs.
You undressed each other while the shower warmed up. You unbuttoned his shirt slowly, methodically, running your fingers over his bared chest before pressing your lips into him there. You examined the place on his arm where the bullet had grazed him, the cut already scabbing over.
“You got lucky,” you said, your fingers tracing over the older scars on his body before you kissed just below the new one.
“Been a lot luckier than I deserve for a while now,” he said quietly.
Once Joel undressed you, you took his hand and led him into the water. You cleaned him gently, lathering the soap in your hands before running them over his skin, cleaning the blood and dirt from his body and finding every mark on him that you’d gotten to know so well. He washed you in return, his large hands cupping your breasts, trailing over your stomach, your arms, cupping you between your legs with tender care. When you were both clean, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed your slick, wet body against his own. His cock - half hard and thick - nestled against your stomach.
“C’mon baby,” he said, tilting your head so he could look in your eyes while his nose brushed your own. “Let me take you to bed. Don’t want to rush this with you and don’t trust my bum leg to let me take my time in here.”
You smiled a little and kissed him.
“Promise you’ll take me to a lake this summer?” You asked. “Because I really want to fuck you in the water.”
He closed his eyes and laughed, low and needy.
“Promise, baby.”
You kissed him again.
“Then take me to bed.”
Joel reached behind you to turn off the water and wrapped you securely in a towel before running one quickly through his curls and over his own slick body. You enjoyed the view for a moment - the muscle of his arms and chest, the soft and welcoming swell of his stomach - before starting off toward the bedroom, dropping your towel halfway down the hall and looking back over your shoulder to catch your husband staring at you as you did.
It didn’t take him long to join you, his hands on your waist soon after you were in your bedroom, turning you to face him. His cock was fully hard as he kissed you, his lips hot and needy against you. You arched into his touch, the feeling of him against you, the taste of him on your tongue.
He pulled back from you just enough that you could look into his eyes, all molten hot and soft and open, his nose brushing yours, still breathing the same air.
“Tell me how to take care of you,” he said softly. “Tell me what you need.”
“Just you,” you said, voice breathy and trembling. “I need to feel you, I need you close.”
His mouth swallowed your words as he nudged you back down onto the bed. He arranged you in the middle of it, his skin never far from yours, before he settled in the cradle of your hips. His thick length pressed against your slit, making you moan as he kissed down your shoulder to your breast, taking the firm, pebbled part of you into his mouth and sucking you gently. You whimpered, grinding your hips against him. He kissed over your swell of flesh to your breast bone before looking up at you there, his gaze hot and desperate.
“Needy, are you?” He all but growled before pressing another kiss to your chest. “Don’t worry baby, I’ll take real good care of you. Just let me enjoy you first.”
He worked his way to your other breast, sucking you there while he cupped and gently toyed with the other one, his cock rocking against your core the whole time. You could feel your pussy starting to drip for him, your grasping entrance desperate for something to hold.
“Please Joel,” you panted, working your hips up against him as best you could with the weight of him holding you still. “I need you, please, please…”
He pulled his mouth from your nipple with a reluctant groan before adjusting his hips, your clit throbbing in protest of the loss of contact for a moment before you felt his head notch against your entrance. Joel hovered over you, the soft skin of his chest and stomach ghosting over yours, one of his hands coming to cradle the crown of your head, his thumb tracing tenderly along the peak of your hairline.
“What do you need?” He asked, sounding nearly breathless himself. “What’s my pretty, perfect wife need, hm?”
“You,” you whimpered. You didn’t really care if you sounded pathetic, you needed Joel too much. “Inside me, please, please…”
“Don’t worry baby,” he said. “Give you exactly what you need, always gonna take care of you.”
You felt him press into you then, his cock opening your tight channel as he sank into you. You closed your eyes and arched into the familiar, pleasant burn of the stretch of him followed by the almost shocking fullness when he was fully sheathed within you. He stilled there for a moment, your body adjusting to his size, and you could feel all of him. He was so close like this, closer than anyone else had ever been. Your body held onto his, your thighs around his hips, hands over his chest, pussy stretched taut over his cock. You could feel every breath he took, every throb of his cock within you. He was yours like this, yours and yours alone.
“This what you needed?” His voice trembled. You could only nod. He pulled back from you and you whimpered before he thrust back in with a grunt. “Good. Always give you what you need, baby, always.”
He fucked you hard and slow, his thrusts almost bruising in their force and making your hands leave his chest to twist and tangle in the blankets as your orgasm built. He set his aching rhythm, his tongue sweeping into your mouth and devouring all your needy, fucked out sounds.
Your whole being was drawn in tight and hot when he laced his fingers with yours, pinning your hand to the bed.
“C’mon baby,” Joel panted as he thrust into you deep and hard. “Let me feel you, just let go for me. You’re OK, you’re here with me, just give in. I’ve got you, baby. Take care of you, just give in, just come for me. Just come.”
You pressed your hips up against him and came, your fingers tightening around his as your pussy pulsed and throbbed and he fucked you through it.
Joel didn’t last long, though. Your climax had barely begun to ease when he pressed himself deep and came with a strangled cry. He kissed you as he finished before collapsing onto you for a moment, the heavy weight of him soothing and centering as you came back down to Earth.
After a minute, he pulled himself gently from your fucked out body and lay beside you, still panting for breath as he watched you next to him. You rolled to face him and pressed yourself close, burying your face in his chest that smelled like soap from the shower with a hint of sweat from what happened after. His hand brushed over your hair and down your back in a gentle, easy cadence. He pressed a kiss into the crown of your head and you felt him take a deep breath, his nose nuzzled into your hair.
“You with me?” He asked softly. You nodded into his chest. “How’re you feelin’?”
“After that?” You teased lightly. “I’m great.”
He chuckled.
“Not what I meant, love.”
You took a deep breath, taking the centering scent of Joel into yourself.
“I don’t know,” you said quietly. “I guess I just… I kept thinking raiders were far away from here. Sure, they were out there, we ran into them sometimes, but they weren’t a problem. Not really. But they’re not, they’re right there and I…” your voice cracked and he pulled you tighter.
“I know, sweetheart,” he whispered. “M’sorry.”
“Savvy’s here now,” you said, trying to keep yourself from crying. “Ellie… she goes out there. And now you do, too, and… I know I sound like a goddamn broken record but I cannot survive losing any of you. I can’t. And they just take, they take and take and they won’t stop until there’s nothing left and…”
You buried your face in his chest, not able to keep going.
“It won’t be like that this time,” he whispered. “You’re not doing this alone. I’ve got you and anyone who wants to even glance at you or our girls will have to go through me. And good luck keepin’ me from coming home to you.”
You laughed once at that, the sound thick and wet.
“I’m going to protect you, Bambi,” he said, his tone serious now. “I promise you. I’ll keep you safe. I’ll keep us all safe.”

yandere february event day 15
“Love is patient. I, however, am not.”
Tumblr media
you stood stiffly at the doorway to mori’s office. how was it that you kept finding yourself here? despite how much you hated being around your boss, it had slowly become a near constant. you had always tried to draw as little attention as possible. do your very best on missions, stay careful not to cause any problems, follow all commands from superiors, and never speak unless spoken to. it was the perfect recipe for keeping your head down and laying low in the port mafia. and yet, day after day you found yourself being called to have visits with the leader himself.
the first time was the worst. having a direct request for a meeting from mori had scared you shitless. you had no idea what it meant for you. which executive had you managed to piss off that badly? you were, unsurprisingly, entirely confused when all that occurred was a casual conversation. the way he carried himself implied that something deeper than discussion of your day was at hand, but you’d never be able to read mori well enough to know what that possibly could have been.
the second time wasn’t nearly as bad, but it terrified you nonetheless. mori didn’t exactly have a habit of being predictable. you had no idea if this next meeting would run in a similar fashion as to the last or if something much worse would go down. it ended up being quite the same, elise was there this time. you were careful to give the girl some of your attention while there. nervously asking her about her drawings. it wasn’t until near the end of your visit that mori offhandedly mentioned something about being a single father to the girl. how it’d be nice to have another parent in her life. you thought it was a weird thing to say, not only because she was an ability and not a real living being, but also because even if she was an actual human, why would he be telling this to you of all people? you tried not to question it.
today was the seventeenth time you’d been called into his office. it wasn’t as scary as the first, but you were careful to keep your wits about you. as much as you wanted to grow comfortable in the space you’d been spending so much time in, you couldn’t help but feel it was a bad idea. this was still the leader of the port mafia that stood in front of you. and you still had no grasp of his true intentions. to allow yourself to grow too comfortable could prove a fatal mistake.
“ah, so glad you got my invitation. have a seat.” mori’s voice called out.
you did as asked, gently placing yourself in one of the two cushioned chairs around the coffee table. a beautiful view of the city stood before you.
“how can i help you, sir.” you still didn’t make eye contact, staring pensively at your hands in your lap.
“still as aloof as ever, and we’ve met how many times?”
“seventeen, sir.” even though the question was likely rhetorical, you answered promptly.
“right, and despite how many meetings we’ve held, you’re still as formal as the first. you can relax around me, you know. i don’t bite.” the grin on his face was almost wolf-like.
“you’re my boss, i just try to remain respectful.”
“hm. it’s been over a month since our first meeting, hasn’t it? and you haven’t warmed up to me at all. i guess it’s true that love is patient. i, however, am not. i've found myself growing weary of this drawn-out courting.”
“love?” your eyes widened slightly and you met the man’s eyes for the first time since you entered the room. your face read as nothing but entirely confused.
“that’s right. i’m surprised you hadn’t picked up on it sooner. i thought i’ve been making my preference for you quite clear. but that’s alright, some people just require a bit more candidity than others.”
“i- i’m sorry sir but i don’t know if i- um- this feels like a sort of-” you sputtered, stumbling over your words. this is not what you wanted. nothing about attracting the boss of the port mafia would help you continue to stay unnoticed and out of trouble. but considering your situation, flat out rejecting him couldn’t be a smart idea.
“i’m sure you’re aware that you don’t have much of a choice here, yes?” he cut off your pathetic attempts at forming a statement. “but don’t think of it as a negative thing. you’re quite capable, i’d hate for that talent to be wasted, and you’ll receive far more benefits within this organization than you did previously. the kind of benefits someone of your skill level deserves. i’ll make sure to take good care of you.”

AU where Gwendoline is a writer.
~•~
You looked up at the sky, the sun shining bright above your head. Although it was still February, it was warm and the sky was clear.
It reminded you of the day when it all happened, when the start of the end took place.
You entered the library where the signing was at, and went in line. You kept thinking of her, wondering if she'd changed or if she was still the same, good looking and witty woman you used to love.
"Next!"
You waited for the person in front of you to go away before taking two steps forward. Coming into view was her, Gwendoline, smiling. She looked up and that smile faded.
You grinned, putting your copy of the book on the table. It had been long since you last saw eachother, so her surprise was normal. You hadn't talked in quiet a while too, you almost forgot what her voice sounded like. Almost, because you kept hearing her calling you in your dreams.
"Hey."
She blinked, astonished. She couldn't believe her eyes, seeing you there could only be a miracle or a prank. But it didn't matter, because she missed you like you missed her, and seeing you there, dressed fancy like you were about to go to a red carpet, she didn't know what to do. There were a lot of things she wanted to say, a lot of "I'm sorry" and "forgive me", but it wasn't the place nor the time.
"H-hey..."
You gazed at her, at her deep, blue eyes, at her red, plump lips- you wondered if she was wearing the lipstick you gifted her months ago, before your breakup. Your eyes went to the small scar on her upper lip.
"It was nice of you to come here today."
Her voice shook for a moment and she had to cough to regain her composure. She couldn't possibly let you see how your presence was making her crumble. She thought you were gone from her life, forever, altough she had always harboured a small hope in her heart, hope that you would come back to her, hope that she didn't messed up things that badly for you to walk away. You were gone for so long, that hope had gotten smaller and weaker every passing week, yet there you were, with your suit and tie on, looking as beautiful as ever.
"I couldn't have possibly missed this oppurtunity."
You knew you were making a mistake, going back to the one who broke your heart in millions of small pieces, but maybe she changed, maybe you were wrong for thinking she didn't love you or miss you. Maybe it was time to let it all behind and start from scratch.
"Hm."
She took your copy of the magazine and autographed it. You remembered when she used to tell you how wonderful it would be if somebody would read her book, how awesome it would be if her name became famous. You smiled to yourself, seeing her now, with hundreds of people waiting in line for her to sign their copies of her book, the one that she made you read in advance as she was writing it.
"So..."
She looked up, her eyes locking with yours. You stayed there for a second, still, in complete silence. It felt like hours, you saw your future in those eyes, you felt calm and somehow, all your worries and thoughts about the past disappeared. You only saw her, her blonde locks of hair cascading beautifully on her shoulders. You almost went to touch her, to feel the smoothness of her hair in your hand, maybe caress her while she talked about her day and how she missed you.
But then her eyes darted away from yours and the moment of peace faded. A man approached her and told her to move faster, since there were still a lot of people in line. She nodded, apologizing.
You smiled. You missed hearing her voice, you missed hearing that english accent that made her sound refined and sophisticated, which she was. She was a queen, born to rule and to be served and admired, and you were eager to be the peasant who bringed her gifts and who made her feel loved when her king couldn't.
You grimaced. A king. A flashback of that day came into your mind, your thoughts clouded with tears, screams, sadness and anger. You tried to shake the thoughts away, anxiety and remorse and fear washing over you, like it was happening again, in that exact moment.
She looked up at you and, when she saw your face, she knew what you were thinking about. She felt small, powerless, weak and, above all, sorry. She knew what she did was wrong, she knew it would have made you suffer, yet she continued seeing him, even when you two were a couple, happy and content with the life you had. She felt so stupid, so embarassed of her actions, but the past is the past and she couldn't change her choices. She couldn't make your suffering go away, even if she wanted to. And she did, she would have done anything to make those dark thoughts running in you head disappear, but she didn't know how. So it was better if she walked away from your life, forever.
"Thank you again for coming."
You nodded, taking back the book. Your hands touched for a second, but it was enough for a jolt of electricity to run inside your veins. You felt your blood boil at the thought of her hands touching another person, her soft and delicate fingers run along another person's hair. You remembered the wonders her touch did, when you two used to lie naked on your bed, kissing and touching eachother, searching for love on her body while she searched it on yours. And you were sure she found it, you certainly did. But maybe it wasn't the case, since she soon started to search it on someone else.
"Thank you for signing the book. It was very well written,  congratulations."
She smiled, a forced smile. You couldn't decipher her expression, if she was annoyed or simply trying to not cry. You returned the smile and walked away with the book in hand. She watched you exit the library, her eye lingering on your body. She loved you, the way you walked, the way you talked, the way you looked at her, with so much passion and love. It was all gone, though, and it was too late to do anything about it now. So she watched you leave, regret eating her alive.
You glanced back for a second, seeing her greet another person, with a fake smile plastered on her graceful face. Since when she became so good at faking? She used to be the most sincere person in the world, or, at least, that's what you thought. But she cheated on you, hiding it for so long. You felt so stupid, how could you not see it, how could you not have sensed that she wasn't being real with you?
You blamed yourself for so long, you felt like it was your fault. Maybe you didn't love her enough, maybe she wanted more than you could gave her. But you swore you gave everything you had, your love, your loyalty, your attention, your devotion. Everything.
Her name became famous, she was happy with someone else, she didn't need you anymore. You were so dumb for thinking that, maybe, you still had a chance. You immagined that, walking in that library, she would have said "sorry" and hugged you, asking you to come back. But her heart was in the arms of someone else, there was nothing to do.
You walked away from the library, sad and angry at yourself. Seeing her only made things more difficult. How could you forget her? How could you not love her? She was perfect, she was kind, funny, smart, and so full of love. You remembered all the evenings spent laughing and joking while you two shared a glass of wine, trying to solve riddles or playing board games near the fireplace. Sometimes you watched horror movies, your bodies pressed one against the other, the movies didn't seem so horrific with her.
"Y/N!"
You turned around, seeing Gwendoline run towards you, her high heels clicking on the concrete. You took in her running figure. She was taller than you remembered, maybe it was because of the shoes. Her brows were furrowed, a small line forming between them. You loved her little wrinkles.
"Y/N..."
She gazed at you for a moment, reminiscing all the splendid moments she had with you. Your shared appartment, with two small kittens playing around, while she made you breakfast while you still slept. She used to love watching you sleep just after she woke up. Your messy hair, your half opened mouth, while her hand cupped your face. She was joyous of her life with you, but something was missing, and she soon started to searching it in someone else.
"Gwendoline."
You two were still, one in front of the other, your face looking up while she looked down. She didn't find that something in anyone, but she couldn't abandon him, especially after she made him think he was the most important person in her life. But he was wrong, because you were, and she knew she would find that something only in you. Maybe she should have asked, she should have talked to you about it, but she was scared.
"Don't leave."
You smiled.
"I would never."
She returned the smiled.
Things would be different, things would work out fine. She just needed to ask you and you would give, she just needed to talk and you would listen, she just needed to like you and you would love her. Forever.

Author note:..hey ..soo.. did yeah miss me? Lol. Okay yes I’m sorry that haven’t uploaded in…like 3 months. This was originally was made in FEBRUARY.. for black history month and Valentine’s Day..(lmao yes Ik)
So sorry, also if your wondering on your request I’m sorry and I haven’t forgotten about you!!! I have this thing where I need to finish one story first, so since I was stuck on this one.. i never could start the other ones. Anyways enjoy.
Your mouth emits a low groan as the god rays blind your eyes, as you sit up stretching tight limbs.
You rub your neck as you look down, “goddamnit!” You pick your bonnet off your bedsheets, you kick your covers off in a rage making quick steps to the bathroom mirror
You pout seeing your hair thrown around your head like you were attacked by a windstorm. Looks like it’s another hat day, knocking at the bathroom door makes you jump.
“Hey, you done in there?”
“I’m naked!”
“No. you’re not, your lotion is still on your counter and I know you like to moisturize right after the shower. So open up, pleaseeeee? I gotta pee!” Before he could knock again you swung the door open, Peter’s shocked face turns into an inquisitive one.
“Your-“
“Don’t-“
“Didn’t y-“
“Yes,” you bum shoulders as you barge through the small doorway of your shared bathroom.
“But you-“
“If you mention it you’re anti-black!” You pause your feet, swiveling back to face him, “Also- don’t look in my room, it’s creepy!” Your arms cross as you speak, quickly turning around, not awaiting an answer.
“Your door was wide open! I didn’t look on purpose! A-and I’m not creepy…” you hold your laughter as you hear Peter mutter, “I'm not creepy” again as he shuts the door. You hum to yourself as you scan over each hat in your room, picking up each one as you put it against your forehead.
“I think it’s better to try them on, then put them against your forehead.” Peter’s voice sends a shiver of embarrassment as you turn to him, your mouth open to speak,
“Here, try this.” Your eyes are covered for a moment, Peter shifts the beanie to restore your eyesight you stare at his grinning face before turning to face your mirror.
The beanie fits your head perfectly, snarky blue embroidered webs were splashed on it, with the cutest spidey head logo winking back at you, and holy shit,
silk lining inside?!
“Pete, this hat is absolutely…” Your hands reach up to brush your fingertips against the embroidery making sure you weren’t imagining the intricate stitches.
“What? Is it not comfortable? I ca-“
“ Absolutely, adorable! Is it mine to keep?” Your eyes shift to his face which is bathed in blush, a simple nod acts as your answer.
You giggle as you pick clothes to go with your new hat using your bed as a display, your head tilts to look at Peter who has returned to his rightful place on the doorframe.
“Lookin’ for something, hm?” Your hands play with the fabric of your clothes as you speak.
“Oh? I give you free shit and you wanna kick me out?” Peter’s head rested on the doorframe tilted as he smirked, he really didn’t know how handsome he was, did he? You bit your lip.
“Nooo! I’m not kicking you out and you know it, Pete.” You roll your eyes before turning towards him taking slow steps. “But I do have to change and I like you Pete but not enough to let you see me naked, not yet .” Your tongue peaked out behind your teeth as you spoke,
Your hands rest on the door as you slowly inch it closer and closer to Peter’s body, he doesn’t finch opting to stare at you instead, eyes scanning you head to toe. “Are you imagining me naked?” Your eyebrows raised as Peter’s eyes flicker to your lips then to your eyes.
“No..” Peter’s voice wasn’t very convincing, you scoff pushing him out of your door frame, “I’ll be out in a minute.” You shut the door in his face.
-
“Singles night is a go!” You burst into the room, a new outfit on your body. Peter’s head lolling back to look at you, “Cute outfit but it’s definitely not night, at least not yet.” You frown taking a seat next to him.
“No need to be such a Debby downer, just a name.”
“Mm, yeah a name that only makes partial sense” Peter hands you a bottled drink, you block it with your hand.
“Beer? No thanks-“
“Mm, not beer. Fruity liquor, what do you take me as? A frat boy?” Peter’s hand hit his chest fingers splayed
In a fake offense.
You giggle, taking the bottle from his other hand, Peter pops the cap off for you.
“Why aren’t you taking a fine lady out for Val Day, Petey? Definitely hot enough to get some.” You bump shoulders with him.
He hums before answering, his soft eyes falling onto yours, “I’d just..rather spend it with you.” You swear you saw hearts in his eyes.
“Pete.. if you keep talkin’ like that I might take it the wrong way.” Take a sip of your drink, checking the label, 4.25% so it’s not the alcohol talking.
“What if I want you to take it the wrong way?” Peter’s eyes hung low as he inched closer, your hands clamping on his mouth as you shifted towards him as well.
“This is a very cruel prank for you to play, Mr.Parker.” Your words were just above a whisper as you moved your hand away, sticking out your tongue returning to your previous position.
“Wasn’t a prank..” Peter takes a sip of his drink as he turns away from you, also returning to his lax position.
“Anyways, weren’t we supposed to go somewhere today? Hence my need for the cutest hat ever !” Your head tilted to him as you looked up at your hat, god this hat was just so stellar.
“Mm, consider this a pregame I set the reservations
later today.” Peter’s voice was warm and smooth, like whiskey.
“Shit, reservations? I’m not dressed for a fancy place, oh no I gotta go change no-“
“No- you don’t, it’s not a fancy place. I just wanted to make sure we get a seat cus you know, day of love and all” Peter laughed, easing your nerves.
“Don’t scare me like that!” You fake hit him, he dodged a smirk playing on his lips.
“ I didn’t! You scared yourself like that!” His hands shot up in a defensive stand, you scowl.
“Ya yeah laugh it up..”
A comfortable silence falls between you and him, you shift trying to get comfortable again, feeling a bit cramped from sitting up straight. Peter lets out a soft sigh, patting his lap. You oblige his request, your hat shifts off your head, Peter gently pulls the rest off your head. You open your mouth to protest but before you can his hands start to massage your scalp, your eyes close as you let out a groan.
“Dude, that feels amazing..” you hummed snuggling closer to Pete’s torso as he scratched.
Your mind wanders as you drift off to sleep.
“Wash day? Like for clothes?” His eyebrows knitted together as he racked his brains for answers. “No, for my hair.” You paid him no mind as you grabbed all your hair products, plus a towel.
“Why a whole day? Can you not just wash in the shower and go?” Peter followed you into the kitchen he spoke watching you line up the bottles of hair products. Turning on the water, checking its temperature, and moving the dial to your liking.
“Cus, It's easier to wash it here and takes a long time. Plus, it’s what my mom always did. Of course, those days are over and now I have to wash my hair.. no spa treatment for me. “ you pout, wash days were a favorite growing up. Minus the pain of detangling, you loved the scalp massage, and the greasing of your scalp, just thinking about it made you miss home.
“I can do it for you.” Your eyes shot to Peter suspiciously.
“Do what for me?”
“I could wash your hair for you, I don’t mind.”
“Peter..-“
“Seriously! Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it! I'm a very quick learner, plus.. I uhm.. really like your hair. “
You smile softly at Peter’s confession, “You like my hair?” Peter gives you an exaggerated nod, “I like how soft it is.. and how shiny it gets.. I just- really interested in it? I hope that’s not weird.” He puts his hands up before scratching the back of his neck.
“It’s not! I’m just surprised you noticed.”
“I always ..notice you..”
You bit your lip, “Uhm, well. Here I’ll show you what to do.”
You never thought you’d enjoy walking someone else through the process of doing your hair. It was actually relaxing too, Peter’s hands were way gentler than your mom's so that helped too.
Since that day you would occasionally catch him watching videos about black hair, or reading an article on his phone when he thought you weren’t looking.
“Hey, can I try something?” Peter breaks out randomly as you both sit in the common space.
“Depends? What’s up buttercup?”
“Well, uhm. So, I’ve been doing some research.”
“Ooh, research? On?”
“Well, your hair.. and I-..wanted to try to do a different style.. if you’d let me..?” Peter’s voice squeaked, you watched as he physically cringed, you giggled at his dismay.
“Yeah, it sounds like fun.”
“Seriously??” Peter’s bright eyes stared at you with wonder.
“Yeah, I trust you.”
Thus began the weekly hair appointments with Peter the stylist. He tried anything and everything natural, Bantu knots, box braids, cornrows, and twists! Nothing was too much for him.
“Why can’t I do your hair for our dat-uh..hang out for Valentine’s Day?” Peter’s arms were folded as he pouted, standing between the doorway trapping you.
“Mm, because you’ve been spoiling too much! I practically don’t remember how to do my own hair. Plus, I want my hair to be a surprise and add to the excitement!” You grin.
“You’re plenty exciting on your own for me.”
“Whatever- now move!” You push through him.
“Hey..”
You groan, your eyes squinting.
“Hey, wake up-“
You whine as someone shakes you gently, your eyes flutter open to Peter’s brown hair and soft eyes.
“Hey, sleepy head.”
Your subdued smile playing on your lips, “Mornin”
Your hand reaches up, caressing his cheek. Your smile splits into a grin as he leans to your touch.
“I got something to show you.” His hand lays over yours.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, but I gotta get up to get it.”
“Mm- nooo,” you frown.
“I know but I’ll be quick, promise”
“Okaay” you lift, watching Peter walk to his room. You draw your knees close to your chest as you wait for Peter to return.
Your eyes light up when you see a small box with a bow tied neatly around it in Peter’s hands.
“It’s- it’s not much so”
“I don’t care! A gift is a gift, the only thing is you’ve given me two things today and I haven’t even gotten you one thing..” you sulked as he sat in front of you.
“No worries, I didn’t want you to anyways.” His hands extend the box out to you, your fingers graze him as you take it, and goosebumps formed on your arm from the light touch. He sits on the floor in front of you closely watching your reaction.
Your hands shake slightly as you undo the ribbon, opening the box carefully.
A piece of fabric was neatly folded in the box, your curiosity grows as you pick it out of the box, unfolding it gingerly.
A bonnet. He’d gotten you a bonnet, you turn in your hands a few times.
A bonnet with hearts on it-
Wait-
A bonnet that had the cutest collages of you and him printed on the hearts, your fingers trace over both of your smiling faces.
You turn the bonnet in your hands, noticing more little details. Your birthday and name sewn on the side in your favorite color, an adjustable satin strap to keep your bonnet from slipping, and to top it all off the same cute Spider-Man logo that was on your beanie he gave you earlier.
“Peter..”
“You like it?” He grinned.
“Awe I love it!!” You crash on top of him, squeezing the life out of him as you squeal.
“I don’t know who you commissioned but jeez you must have paid a shit ton for such awesome craftsmanship!”
“Actually..I sewed it myself.”
You pull back to look him in the eyes, “Are you serious, Pete?”
He nods as heat rises to his cheeks, “ I wanted it-.. to be special, custom. So I ..made it myself.” His eyes glanced away from you bashfully, shrugging his shoulders as he spoke. You lift his chin, your fingers stroking his jaw, “Thank you so much, this.. means a lot .” Your voice was just above a whisper.
His eyes lock onto yours, his hands on your waist. For the first time, you're keenly aware of how your bodies are touching. Your legs basically wrapped around his waist, your crotch painfully closed to his, your chest pressing lightly against his.
“Can I show a bit of my appreciation?” You feel like you’ve been running a marathon, breathless as you spoke.
“Yeah..yeah I’d like that..” Peter’s eyes flickered to your lips then back to your eyes half-lidded.
Your lips graze his before you both take the plunge. Soft lips collide, your hands travel up to his hair tracing circles.
A satisfying pop rings through both of your ears as you separate, your forehead bumps against him as you stare into each other's eyes.
“I got something to show you, wanna see?” You mimic his words from earlier.
“Yeah,” he mimics you back.
“But I gotta.. get up to show you” You bit your lip, grinning at your little joke.
“Nooo” Peter laughs, pulling you closer.
“It’s either that or you carry me to my room, silly”
Peter shrugs, “okay”
“I’m jokin-“
Peter’s nose bumps yours as he lifts you, your hands are clutching his shirt in an instant, “Peter-!”
“What? You said to carry you..”
“I didn’t think you’d actually do it, Let alone be strong enough!”
“Please you’re like a paper towel in my hands” he kisses your nose, “These muscles aren’t for nothing.”
“What muscles?” You stick out your tongue, giggling.
“Hey! I can still drop you, y’know.”
“Yeah, but I know you won’t.” You press a quick kiss to his cheeks as he gently lets go of your legs.
“What did you wanna show me?”
You grin, skipping over to your bed.
“This.”
“This?” Peter cocks an eyebrow.
“Know what this is?”
“I do.”
You sit down on your bed, “it’s a bed.”
“It is indeed.”
“Mm, do you know what we do on beds?”
“Sleep?”
You motion for him to come closer to you, he obliges by nestling himself between your legs, he towers over you making you crane your neck upwards. Normally this would be terrifying but with him. He looked like an Angel with the lights shining behind him.
“They also have sex.” You bat your eyelashes, you can make out the outline of his face as you speak but not his expression.
“Do you want..to do that?”
“Do what, Pete?”
“D-..do you want to have sex..?”
“Mm, Peter you’re so forward!” You teased, your hands toyed with his belt.
“May I?”
“Please” his voice cracked, desperate for your touch, for you.
Your soft hands undo his belt, unbuttoning his jeans letting gravity help you pull the pants to the floor. Your hands trace his boner through his underwear, palm the head, squeezing softly earning a soft groan. Your hands travel to his waistband, tugging it down slowly like a prize being revealed.
You pump once, Peter's hips jerk forward “Your hands a-are so soft..- sorry.
“No worries, Peter, I enjoy knowing you like my hands. I wonder how much you’ll like my mouth?” You line up your mouth to the tip of his cock, planting a kiss.
“Wait-“ Pete’s hands wrap around yours, “I’m afraid I’ll -..cum if you go any further....-“
“Oh? That sensitive..?” Your eyes flutter, head tilting in question.
Peter's hand covers his mouth as he glances away from you, “On-only because it’s you..and I don't want to be the only one naked..-if that’s okay with you of course.”
You felt heat rise to your cheeks, “I’m okay with that..”
You shift up the bed to make room for him, Peter’s leg finds a place between your thighs planting soft lips against yours. Hands trickling down to your breast, “Can I?” His eyes were like saucers as he stared into your eyes as you nodded yes.
He lifts your shirt gently, pulling it over your head. His hands grasp your waist giving you a gentle squeeze before helping you wiggle out of your pants. His hands hover over your bra, “Are you okay?” You run your fingers through his hair breaking his trace.
“I..I’m okay, you’re just beautiful.” Peter’s hand soft cups your breast as he stares at you, your lips let his name slip through.
His thumbs slide into your underwear, pulling back and snapping your waistband making you both giggle.
“Whatcha doing down there?”
“Taking my time with someone I love..” He bites his lips, with those big brown eyes that you adore.
You guide his hands back to your underwear, letting them grip your sides, “Well, that someone wants you to fuck them.. so I insist you continue.”
“Well if you insist..”
His fingers hook onto your underwear sliding them down your legs, you giggle as you kick them off once they get to your ankles.
“I swear I just saw your dick grow a few inches…”
“Mm, probably because I’m lookin’ at the most beautiful person in the world.” Peter’s hands prop himself over you as you up at him, stealing a kiss from his smiling lips.
Your hands trace down his chest as Peter leans in for more kisses, his lips move to leave delicately placing nibbles down your neck and collarbone. Nibbles turn into hickies as his mouth gets closer to your breast, his hands fondle your left breast before kissing the nipple of your right breast.
“You’re so warm and soft..” Peter mumbles, flicking your nipples with his tongue.
“It’s probably cocoa butter..” you bite your lip as you stare at him,
“Is that why you taste so great too?” Peter grins kissing your tits again before letting his tongue drag all the way down to pussy.
“Is that.. a chocolate joke, p-peter.”
“Nope, but feel free to grill me about it later.” Peter’s hands slide down to your hips, forcing your hips up slightly to meet his mouth.
He presses a kiss against your clit, sending pleasure through your body.
“Pete-“
“Shh- I got you.” His thumb gently presses against your pearl as his tongue dragged down, his eyes low as his tongue wiggled its way into your hole.
Ohh, Pete..!” your hands find their way into his hair, tugging at the soft locks of curls.
Peter hums in approval, tongue probing deeper into your folds, his hand slides to your pussy, his thumb strokes your clit with a warm touch.
His palm pressed against your stomach softly to keep you from bucking up as he eats you out.
Your fingers yank at his hair as he strokes your pearl faster, earning a gasp from Peter, his eyes connecting with yours, a small smile playing on his lips as he makes his way back up to your face, fingers still playing with your clit.
“Enjoying yourself?”
“Fuck, yes.. I- need you inside of me..” You press a kiss at the corner of his mouth, tasting a bit of yourself on your lips.
Peter smiles as he dips down to capture your lips, as hips lined up with yours, replacing his hand with his dick letting it press against you.
“Condom?”
“Bedside drawer.”
Peter pulls out a condom from your stash, flashing it toward you while grinning.
“Naughty..”
You bite your lip in response, “Wouldn’t you rather me be prepared? “
“Yeah, otherwise I’d be running like a madman to my room to find one.” Peter’s brown hair flopped around as he spoke, hovering over you before pressing his lips against yours.
You hum as you feel his cock pressing against your hole, he wraps your legs around his waist as he sinks his cock into you.
Muffled moans are exchanged as your tongues clashed with each other.
“You feel amazing.” Peter’s lips nipped at his neck as he thrust slowly, “This okay?” He flashed his baby brown eyes at you.
“Y-Yea I’m okay, you’re just.. a little big.” A whimper slips through as you speak, “Shit, Peter..you’re filling me so- so well....” you squirm, squeezing down on his cock eliciting a muffled moan from his lips.
“Holy shit- that felt amazing please do that again, squeeze me again.” His hips thrust forward, your head throws back, squeezing him simultaneously in response.
“Peter..!” Your hands rake down his chest as he fucked you into the plush bed.
“Fuck, s-say my name again, please- I need I-it.” He grip your hips in a bruising he slams into you, you hummed his name out in chants as he pumped in and out of you.
“You’re so beautiful” his left hand slip up into your hair massaging the roots as his lips graced your skin, his thumb stroking circles into your skin, “Peter- I’m- “
Your back arched from his continuous touches, his hand pressed on your belly making your head loll back in pleasure.
“Oh god- shitshitshit. Right there-!Sosos good- “ your mouth drooled as his pace quickened, “I’m comin’-“
“Fuck, you’re squeezing me so tight. I’m- “
Peter’s hands grip your waist as lifting your ass off the bed, ” I’m- gonna cum..!”
“I-I’ve wanted to do this for so so long-“
Your body goes limp as he fucks you through your high, “I love you- fuck I love you so much..!” Peter’s cock swells inside of you uttering more confessions as he cums, until his pace dwindles into small nudges.
His nimble fingers trace your hips before, reaching to engulf you in a tight embrace.
“That..was really really good.”
“It was..”
You both pause, it’s a comfortable silence.
“Did you mean ..that? When you said you loved me?”
Peter’s head which was in the crook of your neck moves to hover just above yours.
“Of course, I meant that.” His hands caressed your face, kissing the tip of your nose.
“I really do love you, if.. that’s okay?” He rubs the back of his neck, looking away slightly.
“Of course, that’s okay, Peter. Cus I..love you too.”
You could feel a rush of heat to your cheeks, as Peter’s eyes connected to yours in surprise.
“You do?”
“I do.”
His lips are instantly on yours sucking away your breath, you both pull back when you hear his phone make little chimes.
“I swear if it’s a spam call-“ his lips never stop kissing yours as he speaks, making you giggle.
“Sh- that’s the alert for our reservation!!”
“Wait- what?”
Both of you shoot up immediately, hopping on various clothing.
“Are we even gonna make it on time?”
Peter pauses for a second, “Mm, maybe if we swing there..?” His voice cracks a bit, making your lips split into a grin.
“I’m feelin’ adventurous today, why not?”

Snowfall
Winter in Konoha is seldom noticeable, as the village tends to stay warm year-round. This year, however, they’ve been hit with a cold front from the south that has a bitter chill and steady snowfall blowing past Sai. He sits on the railing just outside of his apartment, carefully balanced and staring out at the city so he can replicate the visual of the snow falling onto the villagers on the sketchpad in front of him.
The village is different today. People have hearts and banners with different colors strung all about their homes and businesses, their spirits seem better, and the cafes and restaurants are filled to the brim. Sai isn’t sure what’s going on- a holiday? A festival?
Before he can think about it much more, Sai hears footsteps running up the steps of his apartment complex. He turns to see Sakura and Naruto fast approaching, Sakura with a big gift bag in her hands.
“Sai!” Naruto greets. “Hey, Sai!”
“Naruto, Sakura, what is it?” Sai asks, closing his sketchbook and jumping off of the railing so he can stand in front of his building on his feet.
“Happy Valentine’s Day!” Sakura grins and holds the gift bag out.
Sai takes the bag, then looks between his two friends, confused.
Valentine’s Day?
“...What?” He mutters.
“What, are you surprised we got you something? Don’t take it the wrong way, y’know,” Naruto huffs and crosses his arms over his chest. “We’re just doing it in a friendly way! It’s nothing, y’know, weird.”
“No, it’s not that I’m baffled by. I assumed it was normal to get your friends gifts,” Sai explains. “It’s just… Valentine’s Day? I’m not familiar with it.”
“Wait,” Sakura pauses, her seafoam eyes going wide. “You don’t know what Valentine’s Day is?”
“No. I’m still learning about holidays- we were never allowed to celebrate them in Root,” Sai hums, then sits on the ground and looks through the gift bag. It’s a new sketchbook, which he has tons of, and colored pencils that are far too cheap for him to do any good work with. Still, he knows that there was a lot of thought put into them, so he tries his best not to say anything rude. “I’m not even sure of when my own birthday is. Danzo refused to tell me, as he didn’t want me to celebrate it… They created their best soldiers by ripping away any traces of individuality, so we were all just considered a year older on the first of the calendar year, and were never celebrated.”
“That’s sad,” Naruto frowns. “Why don’t we choose you a birthday date sometime soon?”
“I think I’d like that, but first, educate me about Valentine’s Day.”
“Right,” Sakura nods. “Basically, Valentine’s Day is the day of love! You get gifts for your close friends and family sometimes, but the main point is to get gifts and spend time with your romantic partner- or confess to someone! So, to sum it up, you just express your love for someone.”
“Your love for someone, hm?” Sai hums. He thinks of his captain, Yamato, of Sakura and Naruto, and of the girl he’s developed a ‘crush’ on since meeting her; Ino. Ino seems like the type who would enjoy something like Valentine’s Day… Maybe he could get her something. “Would you two be interested in helping me pick out a romantic gift for someone?”
“Oh, hell yeah, Sai! Put it there,” Naruto exclaims and holds his hand out. Sai simply blinks at the blond, unsure of what to do until he gets an explanation. “I meant, like, for a high five! C’mon.”
“Oh,” Sai reaches forward with his hand and slaps Naruto’s, albeit a bit awkwardly.
When he pulls back, he looks to Sakura.
“I’ll help you pick out something for Ino, but we came and got you so we could go get stuff for Captain Yamato! So, come help us first.”
With that, Naruto and Sakura are dragging Sai by his hands, and though he had planned to spend the day alone, he can’t help but smile at his two friends.
~
February isn’t a good month for Yamato in the slightest. His joints are worn and painful from the years of strenuous work in Root and Anbu, and the cold weather certainly doesn’t help. On top of that, his jutsu is much easier to use and control during spring and summer- and even fall- so training and going on missions has been more difficult for him.
Thankfully, for the first time in a long time, Yamato has a day off. He sleeps in, lounges around the house, stays in his pajamas, and makes himself a nice cup of hot tea. As he sits on the couch, sipping away to warm his achy body and staring at the falling snow out his window with his cat, Scarecrow, laying across his lap.
Just as he gets comfortable and leans back into the couch, there’s a knock on his door. Scarecrow stands up and runs to the door, letting out a scratchy meow. Yamato goes to open the door. Much to his surprise, the kids of Team Kakashi are there.
“Captain Yamato!” Naruto greets as Scarecrow purrs and rubs up against his legs.
“Oh, Sakura, Naruto, Sai, good morning. Come on in,” Yamato steps aside to allow the three teenagers in before shutting the door behind them. Naruto makes himself comfortable by plopping down on his living room couch, Sai stands stiffly by the window, and Sakura approaches him to push a gift basket into his hands. Yamato holds the basket and looks down at it with a baffled stare. It’s pretty, hand woven and filled with green wrapping paper. “A gift basket? What for?”
“Valentine’s Day! Don’t tell me you don’t know what it is either,” Naruto groans. At that, Yamato glances towards Sai, who seems unbothered. Scarecrow hops onto the windowsill by Sai and rubs up against his hand. “Do we need to explain it to you, too?”
“No, no, I’m fully aware of the concept,” Yamato laughs and sits down next to Naruto on the couch. He awkwardly scratches the back of his neck and tries to avoid the three sets of prying eyes that are trained on him. “I just forgot it was today. I mean, I don’t usually have anyone to celebrate it with…”
“Really? That’s hard to believe, Captain,” Sakura says with a furrowed brow.
At that, Yamato blinks, surprised.
“You think so?”
“You’re a good guy-” Sakura starts, only for Naruto to interrupt with-
“Even if you are scary-”
“Shut up, Naruto!” Sakura yells, then turns to Yamato as he looks through the big gift basket. It has a bonsai plant, a watering can, some candied walnuts, a big bottle of wine, and what appears to be a handmade scarf. “Anyway… We all just wanted to show you how much we appreciate everything you’ve been doing for us since you’ve been appointed our team captain. We love you a lot.”
“Well… Thank you, guys. I really do appreciate it, and I love you all, too.”
“Yes, of course,” Sakura smiles. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
“So? Is there anyone you’d like to celebrate with?” Naruto asks, totally unprompted. “Today may be the day to make your move!”
“Naruto, I don’t really think…” Yamato pauses. There is someone- there’s been someone- and Yamato has loved him for a very long time, but he’s so scared of ruining what they have and getting rejected that he hasn’t dared to fess up. For all he knows, Kakashi could have a date of his own today. “Well, that’s a complicated question with a complicated answer.”
“What!? I was joking!” Naruto exclaims with a red face. Sai watches them all, seemingly amused. “No way, you actually like someone?”
“That is so not your business, you idiot,” Sakura scolds, though she does a poor job of hiding the fact that she wants to know as well when she gives Yamato a questioning sort of glance just seconds later.
“Actually, I’m sort of curious too,” Sai pauses, furrowing his brow as if he’s in deep thought. “If you like this woman, why not get a gift for her? Isn’t that the custom?”
“Well, for one, it’s not a woman,” Yamato clarifies, to which Naruto’s jaw drops. The other two don’t look even remotely surprised, and he isn’t sure how he feels about that. “And honestly, a Valentine’s Day gift could easily be interpreted as a love confession.”
“Is that such a bad thing?” Sakura asks. “It’s not healthy to bottle up your feelings.”
“I’m not ‘bottling up my feelings’. I just know better,” Yamato sighs. “Anyway, you kids should go enjoy the rest of your holiday. I’m sure you guys at least have dates. I’ll enjoy today just fine on my own.”
Yamato quickly shoos the group out of his home, but finds himself fully dressed and at Yamanaka Flowers just half an hour later, staring at the bouquets through the glass window. He sees so many flowers that he could easily imagine sitting in a vase in Kakashi’s window, but… He just can’t bring himself to go in and get them.
Meanwhile, Ino Yamanaka stands at the cash register, a big smile on her face as she sees all of the happy couples walking through her shop. She notices Yamato standing outside and longingly peering in, so she rushes to the entrance to catch him before he can psych himself out of coming in (which she’s seen him do a lot of times since he’s been discharged from Anbu).
“Hey, Captain,” Ino grins as she pokes her head out the door of the shop. The brunette looks towards her, his cheeks burning bright red as if he’s embarrassed to have been caught here. “You looking to buy something?
“Er, yes,” The captain answers rather awkwardly, which is nothing new if Sakura’s many stories about him are anything to go by.
“Of course, Captain Yamato, what do you need?” Ino grabs Yamato by the arm and drags him into the shop. “Are you looking for something for your special someone?”
“Precisely. What kind of flowers are appropriate for a, uh… Love confession?”
“Well, let’s see,” With Yamato following close behind, Ino goes to the massive wall of flowers and starts arranging a bouquet in white wrapping paper. “You’re a very direct, straight-forward person, so… I think a simple bouquet of red tulips and pink dahlias will do! The tulips symbolize a declaration of love and the dahlias symbolize gratitude.”
“Gratitude?” Yamato mutters. Though the rest of Kakashi’s team is too dense to figure it out, Ino has seen Kakashi and Yamato around the village many times now. Better yet, she’s seen the way that Yamato looks at Kakashi when they’re together; the blush on his cheeks, the spacey and loving sparkle in his dark eyes, the way he glances away when Kakashi tries to meet his gaze. His crush on Kakashi couldn’t be more obvious, yet the man thinks that no one else knows. It’s a miracle that he’s finally deciding to confess. “Well, I guess that is fitting. Thank you, Ino, I really appreciate it.”
“Of course. It’s on me today, alright? So don’t worry about paying for it,” Ino says with a wink and clasps Yamato’s hands around the stems of the flowers, then follows up with- “Just be sure to tell Kakashi-Sensei that I said hello!”
“Yes… Thank you.”
Yamato leaves in a hurry, seemingly humiliated at Ino’s little callout. Ino makes a mental note to tell Sakura about this later and scurries back to the register. The rest of the day is busy, but pleasant, with almost all of the flowers getting sold out. The clock hits eight and she gets ready to close, but right as she heads to the door to lock it, Sai swings it wide open and enters the shop with red cheeks.
“Ino?”
“O-Oh, Sai! Hello!” Ino offers a smile, but she can’t help how nervous she becomes. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t have a huge crush on Sai- he’s attractive with a unique sense of humor, and unlike Sasuke or any of the others she’s shown interest in before, he’s been nothing but nice to her. So, when he shows up at the flower shop at the last minute with ruffled ebony locks and red cheeks, Ino’s heart starts to race. Briefly, she considers the upsetting possibility that he could be here to get a Valentine’s Day gift for someone else; another girl, even. “Can I help you?”
“Yes, actually,” Sai answers with a nod.
“What are you looking for?”
“I’m not here to buy anything,” Sai responds, shaking his head. He reaches into the pocket of his pants and pulls out a jewelry box, which he holds out to Ino. “I’m here to give this to you, beautiful.”
Ino pauses, a nervous laugh falling from in between her lips.
This might be the best Valentine’s Day she’s had yet.
“Aw, really?” Ino questions. She glances up at Sai’s face, and then back down at the box. She opens it to see a beautiful silver necklace with a teardrop-shaped sapphire in the center; her birthstone. Whether Sai knew that or whether it was a lucky guess, Ino isn’t sure. She briefly thinks to ask if Sakura helped Sai pick the piece out before thinking better of it. “You’re so sweet! Let’s go on a date!”
“Wait, what?” Sai blinks.
“Dad,” Ino calls out, turning to where she knows her father is working on cultivating plants in the very back of the shop. She yells at the man over the back counter as she hurriedly clasps her new necklace around her neck. “I’ve gotta go, can you come take over and close?”
“I’ll be there in a second, honey, go on ahead!”
With her work day over, Ino grabs Sai by the hand and drags him out of the shop into the cool evening air.
~
Kakashi Hatake doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Or, he hasn’t in a long, long time.
He remembers when he was little, he would wake up to a big teddy bear and chocolates on the table beside his tiny bed, left by his father. When he got older and his father passed away, Kushina and Minato were kind enough to let him tag along on their Valentine’s dates- and Rin would shower him with gifts. Now, since all of them have passed, he’s spent every Valentine’s Day alone.
This year, however, he’s ready to move on. Maybe it’s stupid, but he’s developed feelings for Yamato since the younger man was discharged from Anbu. He’s convinced himself for months that it would go terribly if he acted on them, and that it’s not a good time, but when have times ever been good for either of them?
He returns from a mission just past eight and rushes to Yamanaka Flowers right as they’re closing. He sees Inoichi starting to lock the door when he arrives, and thankfully, the man is kind enough to open the door and sell him the last bouquet in the store; some sad, wilting white roses that are in such poor condition that there’s a discount on them.
As pitiful as the poor things are, he figures they’re better than nothing- that and Yamato is so good at caring for plants that he hopes the man will be able to bring them back from the brink.
He takes himself and the bouquet to Yamato’s apartment and stands on the balcony just outside of the man’s sliding glass door. He peers into the kitchen to see Yamato sat at the kitchen table with a bouquet of red tulips and pink dahlias in a glass vase and a pen in his hand. There’s probably five crumpled up pieces of paper on the floor and ten more on the table as Yamato sits there trying to write whatever it is he’s working on. Based on the flowers and the pretty pink envelope, Kakashi can only guess that it’s a love letter. Then, his gaze softens when he notices a ribbon tied around the vase of flowers with a note attached; to Kakashi, it reads.
“God, I can’t believe I’m doing this,” Yamato groans, crumpling up the paper in front of him and tossing it to the floor again. When he glances over to the sliding door, he notices Kakashi through the glass and jumps. “O-Oh, Senpai!”
“Tenzo,” Kakashi greets, quickly sliding the door open. He considers scolding Yamato for leaving it unlocked before thinking better of it. “Good to see you, as always.”
“I told you to stop calling me that.”
“Fine, then, Yamato,” Kakashi waltzes in and slides the door closed behind him with the bouquet of white roses still in hand. Immediately, a large black cat with one eye comes and rubs itself against Kakashi’s legs. He bends down just far enough to pet the animal and smiles when they arch their back into Kakashi’s touch. “I didn’t know you had a cat. What’s its name?”
“Uh,” Yamato struggles to get any words out as he rushes to throw all the abandoned letters in his kitchen trash can. The cat leaves Kakashi’s side and paws at a paper ball, which they then proceed to chase and slap around the kitchen floor. “His name’s Scarecrow. He sort of kept breaking in through my window, and he didn’t have a microchip or collar, so I just let him in and kept him.”
“Scarecrow, huh? That’s cute,” Kakashi grins, then, in a moment of bravery, holds the bouquet out to his friend- hopefully future lover. “Happy Valentine’s Day. Sorry it’s not the nicest- by the time I got there, they were closing and Inoichi didn’t have much left except for these.”
“Senpai… You really shouldn’t gift people bouquets like this unless you want them to get the wrong idea,” Yamato says with a sheepish smile as he unwraps the bouquet from the paper and gently places it with the flowers he seems to have bought for Kakashi in the glass vase on the table.
“And what would ‘the wrong idea’ mean?” Kakashi asks, leaning against the kitchen counter.
“Well, you know-” Yamato, seemingly flustered, covers his face with his hands- but Kakashi can see that the tips of his ears are bright red. “If you give people things like this… They might assume that you have feelings for them.”
Kakashi walks up to Yamato and pulls the man’s hands away from his face.
“Well, that would be the right idea.”
“You-” Yamato pauses, his big brown eyes going wide. “Are you messing with me?”
“Not at all,” Kakashi answers, then gestures to the paper-filled trash can, the flowers, and the empty envelope on the kitchen table. “And if this whole mess is anything to go by, I’m assuming you have feelings for me, too?”
“I, uh, yeah. You’d be correct.”
“I’m glad, then.”
Yamato allows his eyes to fall shut and lets out what appears to be a sigh of relief.
“I stopped by the flower shop, too, I just… Was having trouble bringing them to you,” Yamato frowns as he looks at the flowers on the table. “At first, I thought they weren’t enough, so I spent the rest of the day looking for a good gift to go with them, but I couldn’t find anything- and then, I thought I could make something, or write you something, and well… That didn’t work out.”
“Don’t worry about it. The flowers by themselves are perfect. I’m just sad we didn’t do this earlier if we both felt this way,” Kakashi laughs and moves the vase from the table to the window sill so the flowers can sit in sunlight. “I fully expected to come here and for you to Mokuton me out your window in a fit of blinding rage.”
“...Seriously?”
“Yeah. Why else do you think I waited so long? I’m usually not one to beat around the bush, I just… Hated to think about you spending today alone, and I was waiting for the right time, but the right time never came, so why not tell you tonight?”
“Well,” Yamato smiles and walks up to Kakashi. Much to Kakash’s surprise, Yamato wraps his arms around his waist, pulls him into a hug, and rests his forehead on his shoulder. Kakashi isn’t used to being touched like this, so his heart is pounding hard and slow against his chest as he slowly reaches forward to return the hug and hold Yamato close to his body. “Thank you… For saying something. I’m not sure I would’ve ever gathered the courage to. If you hadn’t come, these beautiful flowers would’ve probably stayed on my kitchen table and wilted…”
“I’m just glad you accepted my feelings,” Kakashi pulls back and rests a gloved hand on one of Yamato’s cheeks. “Why don’t we go on a date? Valentine’s Day isn’t over yet.”
“But it’s past nine,” Yamato argues. “As sweet as that is, Senpai, everywhere is going to be closed by now!”
“Ichiraku’s still open.”
“Then, sure. It’ll be my treat.”
“Oh, no,” Kakashi shakes his head and takes Yamato by the hand. “It’ll be mine. Now, let’s go.”

8th day "Sword and Magic II"/9th day "NEO" (scene 1)
"Fuji-Nee. It's fine that you eat apples, but eat your requirements. Those oranges you bought… there's still a boxful of them."
"Aw, I remember that now…. Uhh, I'm tired of eating oranges." Fuji-Nee says this, digging her fangs… I mean, her teeth into the apples.
"What do you mean, you're tired of eating them? Remember I was against it? Even though there's only me, Sakura, and you, you bought nearly 10 mochi and 3 boxes of oranges. You buy too much just because it's New Years. There's still a box left even though it's February. If you let it rot, I'll make you pay for all of it.
"Ugh. …I'm just asking, but, how long does it take for oranges to rot?" "Oh, about 2 weeks to a month in normal temperatures. They're almost out." Well, I kept them in the ice room, so they should be good for a bit longer.
"Gah, so now's the time to eat and time to rot?" "…Fuji-Nee. Never live by yourself. Food poisoning is scary nowadays. Check the expiration date on your food and watch out for fish in the summer."
"It's fine, I'll just come to your place when that happens. You can just give me the leftovers." "…I won't give you leftovers, you idiot. You eat a lot. If you're going to come and eat, I'll prepare some for you too." I avert my gaze and start preparing dinner again.
"Hm. Then I'll make lots of money and give you money for food. You're good-for-nothing like Kiritsugu-san, so I expect you'll be always in trouble for money."
"Keep talking. …Anyways, why did you get so many oranges? You should know Sakura doesn't like those kinds of fruit, and I don't eat much either." It's a good opportunity, so I ask her a question I've been wondering since the New Year.
"Hmm, I don't know. Oh, but Orange-peko sounds good, right?" "―――――" …Well. I guess it was stupid of me to hope for a logical answer from Fuji-Nee.
Preparation for dinner ends, and the time is past seven. Fuji-Nee and Saber are in the living room, and only Tohsaka is absent.
"…I wonder if something happened to her outside." I don't think Tohsaka is the type to make that kind of mistake, but I think she does make big mistakes sometimes. "――I guess I'll go take a look." I should be fine by myself if I'm just going to go search around the house.
I exit into the hallway. The instant I try to leave, the door opens and Tohsaka in her coat arrives home.
"Tohsaka." "I'm home. What, are you greeting me in an apron? You look pretty good in it."
Tohsaka makes that humorous comment without even twitching her brow. …She's scary. People who can put on a serious face while joking are the scariest.
"Tohsaka, what were you――" As I try to ask her what happened, I notice the blood on her hand. …A small stain of blood and a swollen index finger. Could that be…?
"Tohsaka. I'm going to guess about something bad." "What? I won't listen if it's anything stupid." "It's not. Have you punched someone?"
"Correct. I gave that annoying Shinji some knuckles." Tohsaka snorts and passes by me.
"……" I see, some knuckles for Shinji. Now I understand the blood on her hand and the swelling on her finger――hang on!!!
"Hold on, hold on, hold on! What do you mean, you punched Shinji!?" "You're being loud. He was being annoying, so I beat him up."
"Beat him up… you mean, with bare knuckles?" "Bare as it can be. A grizzly bear, too." Tohsaka snorts again.
"……" "……" A brief silence. I don't know what to say, so I just shut my mouth and cause an awkward silence.
"…Let's get back to the main subject. You said you punched Shinji, but why?"
"It's only natural I punched him. He was talking about things like me joining him, and you being useless so I should give up on you. He said stupid things after calling for me, so I punched him to make him shut up."
"……" No, isn't that a little too short-tempered, Tohsaka? …Or could it be? Did Shinji say something stupid enough to even piss off the ever-calm Tohsaka?
"…Why are you looking at me like that? I'll say this, but I'm the victim here." "No, both sides are equally responsible, right? …But still, why would Shinji say something like that to you? He said he wanted me to cooperate with him."
"Who knows? Maybe he thinks of you as a rival or something. He was acting weird ever since I told him I was living with you."
"What!? Tohsaka, you told him about us!?"
"Yeah, I did. I think it was yesterday morning. Shinji called me and said proudly that he became a Master like me now. He pissed me off, so I told him that you were the same too. I thought he learned his lesson, but he was waiting outside my house for me a while ago."
"So, I told him I'm living at your house now and I didn't have any intention of cooperating with a half-assed Master like him… what, was that bad?"
"――――" That's generally bad. Shinji is very conscious of Tohsaka under normal circumstances, so this is like pouring oil onto a fire.
…Well, but still… I see, I get it now. I understand why Shinji only saw Tohsaka as the enemy, and why he kept asking her to cooperate with him. In a word, he――
"But it's strange, isn't it? I wonder why he's so fussed up about me. Judging from his personality, I wouldn't expect him to want to cooperate with anyone." ――No. It's because Tohsaka Rin is important to Matou Shinji.
"It's not strange at all. I think you're a special person for Shinji. His was a family of magi originally, right? Then――I think he admired you since you were of the lineage of a magus family like him, and you still retain the blood of it."
That's why he's persistent about Tohsaka. I think Tohsaka Rin has been a target of his affections from even before this Holy Grail War started.
"WHAT!? …Well, I am a bit happy about being liked, but still――" It must have been a real surprise, as Tohsaka stands pondering.
"…Oh, I remember. Come to think of it, Shinji asked me out when I was a first year." She makes a terrible "gah, I forgot about it" reaction. …I'll sympathize with Shinji, just for now.
"Whoa, no wonder he never gets enough of talking to me. I understand now." "…That's fine. So, how did you reply?"
"Oh, I think I rejected him. I can't stand it if I'm not the first to make a move in a contest. It's like I can't get in the mood unless I'm setting the mood, or like I don't feel like it if someone else starts a match."
Tohsaka ponders, as if she really doesn't remember. ――I'm shocked. She must really live following only her feelings.
"Tohsaka. You suck at rock, paper, scissors, right?" "Huh!? Wait, how do you know that!?" …As I thought. Of course, if she likes to make the first move, she would be weak against a later move.
"Use the soy sauce for that, Saber. Don't put mayonnaise on it, even by mistake." "――I see. Well, I saw Taiga do so, so I thought I should as well."
"……"
"Fuji-Nee is just playing around. She's not much of a reference, so be careful from now on."
"…I see. I was referencing Sakura before, so you never warned me, but…" "No, I'm not angry. I worked hard to make it, so I just want you to have it at its best. So, getting back to the original conversation…"
"……"
"Shirou, I'll take seconds. Give me lots of stuff in my miso soup." "All right. How about you, Saber? I bet you're hungry since we worked harder today."
"Not really. But I will take another just in case." "Yeah, go ahead. If you also started recklessly raiding the fridge at night because you were too hungry to sleep, I'd die of shock."
"……"
"Hey, that's terrible. I told you that wasn't me. It was some burglar that raided the fridge."
"Then could you tell that robber that she shouldn't just eat meat, but that she should eat vegetables as well? And tell her not to finish off all the desserts in the fridge as if that's what she was after. Geez, she's like a hungry animal or something." "What!? Don't call me a tiger!" "Whoa, I didn't call you that! Ow, hot! Don't throw the hot white radish, you idiot!"
"……"
"Shirou. It seems the pot in the kitchen is boiling." "Huh? Oh, hold on Fuji-Nee, I need to turn the fire off." "All right. Bring me some chicken and boiled egg in soy sauce quickly." "Roger. Then keep Fuji-nee company, Saber." "Yes. Please do not rush your cooking, Shirou."
"……"
I get up. …Oh yeah. Why has Tohsaka been quiet all this time?
"Tohsaka? Does dinner taste bad?" "No. It's nothing, so don't talk to me." She looks away sullenly. …Hmm. She's not the kind to drag that thing about Shinji out this long, so maybe something has irritated her.
Dinner ends as usual and Fuji-Nee goes home satisfied. Saber and Tohsaka are in the living room. It was an awkward mood before, but since I've trained with Saber for the past two days, it doesn't feel awkward anymore.
"Saber, you can go to bed. I'll do the rest." "No, I will stay awake until you go to sleep. I would also like to learn from Rin how skilled you are in magic."
"I see. Then let's go to Tohsaka's room a bit earlier than usual. You don't mind, Tohsaka?"
"No, I don't mind. But you are getting along much better with Saber." …? For some reason, Tohsaka says this with the same displeasure she had when we were eating dinner.
"I'll be waiting in my room, so come when you're done cleaning up. …And I'll also be skipping school from tomorrow on. So come to my place in the afternoon." Tohsaka leaves the living room, still in a bad mood.
"Shirou, did you do something to Rin? She seems angry." "Did it seem that way to you too? …I don't know. I didn't do anything to anger her."
We both look at each other and tilt our heads. We have no idea why Tohsaka's angry.
"Then to start with, go ahead and 'strengthen' this lamp. You just have to strengthen the glass on the outside." She hands me an antique lamp.
"―――――" I sit down. I take a deep breath, holding the lamp in both hands. Tohsaka speaks so easily, but I'm rigid all over with tension.
Even though I do it every night, the reality is that the success rate is below 0.1 percent. Tohsaka says she'll study the extent of my strengthening to determine the level I'm at, but she won't be able to do even that if I fail at the strengthening.
"―――――" That's no good. I shake off my idle thoughts. I concentrate my mind on the lamp.
The blueprint of the lamp emerges. I could draw a diagram of the glass's material, shape, and even the flow of strength that would correspond to blood vessels in humans. So all I have to do now is to put my magical energy into those blood vessels.
…I just have to do as I always do. The feeling of driving a burning metal rod into my backbone. All I have to do is stick that incompatible burning nerve into my body and familiarize myself with it. Once that succeeds, all I have to do is pour in the correct amount of magical energy for the glass and―――
"――Oh" I broke it. I must not have been able to control it, as I put more than the proper quantity of magical energy into it, and as a result, the glass breaks easily.
"……" I look up at Tohsaka timidly. "…As I thought. I thought this might be the case, but it really was." Tohsaka's shoulders slump.
"Hm? What do you mean you thought so?" "Isn't it obvious? I'm just dumbfounded by your lack of talent…! First of all, you don't have the basics down. Geez, I'm impressed you can produce magical energy with such a ridiculous method!"
"…Tohsaka. Are you angry?"
"Of course! I'm amazed you've kept training with such basic problems, and I even want to kill your teacher for not correcting you. Why are you taking such a long route…!?".
"…Hm. I don't get what you're saying, but don't insult my father. It's my fault that I don't have any talent, so my father has nothing to do with it."
"Of course he has something to do with this. If you take an apprentice, it's the role of the teacher to correct the student. …Well, you're right that it does no good to take it out on someone who's already gone, but still, your teacher got the first step wrong."
Still angry, Tohsaka takes out some kind of a can from her bag. It looks like a can filled with candy drops, something foreign children treasure. I've seen a lot of imitations in Japan as well. That thing that has several varieties of candy, and the white one being the mint.
"Hold out your hand, Shirou." "…?" I put out my hand. Tohsaka shakes the can and takes out a reddish candy drop.
"All right, swallow that." "…?" I put it in my mouth as instructed.
"…It's not sweet. No, it has no taste actually. And this feeling… it feels more like rock than candy.
"…Hmmm…" I forcibly swallow it down. "Oh, ouch. My throat hurts. What was that, Tohsaka?"
"It's a jewel, of course. Couldn't you tell by looking at it?" Straightforwardly. Tohsaka says something outrageous.
"A jewel, why…!?" "I can't help it. I prepared some medicine too, but that sort of thing won't work if I want to fix you. So I decided I'd just have to open the switch with the strongest one I have."
"No, that's not the point…! Why are you making me swallow a jewel!? I can't digest something like that!"
"…Hey, now. If you're going to worry about things, you should be worrying about something else. It's not a normal jewel, you know? What I gave you just now is an enforcement tool that will let you find out about what you didn't know up until now. It should start melting right about now, so be prepared, or you'll faint."
"Why are you telling me I'm gonna faint with――" Just as I say that… The abnormality hits me.
"―――――!?" My body is burning. The feeling in my limbs goes numb. A lump of heat that can only be described as pain enters my back. I have to concentrate my mind at my forehead and squeeze it, or I won't be able to stay standing.
"――What… is… this?" I know it. I know this feeling. This is a failure. This is the reaction that happens in my body when I fail to construct a Magic Circuit inside me――!
"It's all right. It must be painful, but it should gradually get better if you can maintain that condition. Well, the burning feeling will continue for about two or three weeks though." …I want to answer her back, but I don't have the energy to do so. All I can to is try with all my might to stay standing.
"Okay. The difference between a magus and a human is whether they have a switch or not. You should know that this switch is the toggle for the Magic Circuit. See, there's an electrical pot that can boil water. A magus is just like that. And a normal person is a pot that can keep the water warm, but can't boil it.
"We are similar, but different. The question of whether one has the switch or not is beyond the grasp of an individual. When we are born――no, when we are made, we are separated into insulators and kettles. A person without the switch will never be able to experience magic.
"All right? You're an amateur, but you definitely have a Magic Circuit. So that means you have the talent. So if you make the Magic Circuit within your body even once, all you have to do after that is to toggle the switch. You just have to press the switch and switch between on and off to produce magical energy."
…I calm my breathing. As Tohsaka says, it seems the situation won't get any worse if I calm myself down.
"You only have to make the Magic Circuit once. But you're trying to make the Magic Circuit from scratch and build it into you every time.
"That's just a waste. If you establish it in your body even once, all you have to do is to switch to it. …Usually, a magus who establishes a Magic Circuit next receives training to switch to it. But your teacher didn't do that. That's why you're building a Magic Circuit and risking death every time. …No, maybe your father made the same mistake as well."
I breathe out. The feelings in my limbs slowly return.
"As you've trained the wrong way for a long time, your switch is closed. If that's the case, all we can do is to open it by force and let your body know that there is a switch."
"See, the jewel just now is something that forces the switch to turn on. So you'll be like that forever. If you want to return to your original state, you'll have to turn it off with your own power. If you can do that, you won't need the jewel's help anymore. After that, you should be able to handle the Magic Circuit with a simple mental operation."
"…I get… that… but…" Can't I do anything about the heat in my body? And she talks about this switch, but what am I supposed to do?
"What, you can speak already!? …Hmm, you're good at controlling yourself. Then maybe you can return to your normal state rather quickly. The switch will automatically turn off as your body tries to calm down and tries to get comfortable again. All you have to do is hasten that process with your will. See, it's easy, right?"
"…No… like I said, I don't understand at all. You say a switch, but I don't feel anything like that."
"It'll be like that now, but you should be able to get a clear image eventually. It'll be like a button in your head. So all you have to do is switch it on, and you'll be able to open the Magic Circuit easily."
"…I hope so. I just feel really sick right now…"
"I assume so. You always shut your Magic Circuit after you used your strengthening magic, right? It's the opposite right now and your Magic Circuit is open the whole time. It's like running full speed all the time, so it's naturally painful. But that's an essential requirement to be able to call yourself a magus. If you're going to fight as a Master, toggling the switch will surely help you out."
"…I know. It was a surprise, but I'm thanking you. You're right. If I can feel this switch thing, it will certainly be a bonus."
"…You understand pretty well. But there's no need to thank me. I'm just helping you because I'm in trouble if the person I'm cooperating with is weak." Tohsaka looks away. It must be because my body is burning. Blankly, I think that the embarrassed Tohsaka is cute.
"…What? What are you staring at my face for?" "Nothing. I just thought you're not honest."
"…I see. You must have excess energy if you're able to say such things. I can continue teaching if you have that much energy, right?" Tohsaka approaches me, smiling.
"…Uh." Hold… on. Hey, I can barely move my body right now.
"So, try your 'strengthening' again. You shouldn't be able to control your magical energy right now, but you'll be of no use if you don't get used to that condition. "It's all right. I brought lots of lamps. I don't know how many times you'll screw up, but I won't let you rest until you succeed in strengthening."
Smiling, she hands the lamp to me, still barely able to move. "…Uh." Whoa… this is like telling someone with a 40 degree fever to walk on a long tightrope…
"…Geez. I didn't think I'd give up before you did." Tohsaka blames me with her glare.
"…I'm sorry." "My predictions were too optimistic. I never thought you would break all thirty. …Sorry, but that's it for today's training. There's nothing to use to measure your strengthening any more."
"…Ugh." But I did try. I tried hard with a body that's burning like I'm in a boiling kettle. I tried hard, but it's just that the "strengthening" failed in spite of that.
"…Um. If it's just the glass breaking, you can fix it, right? You fixed the broken glass window before." "It's impossible. That was something that broke normally. This broke because it couldn't endure your magical energy. Remember that it's hard to affect something that carries the magical energy of another."
"――Hm, I see." "Yeah. …Don't worry and go rest. I'll call it enough to have turned your switch on today. I'll teach you the rest when you're able to control it."
"…Phew. I'm glad I can rest, but what will you teach me after this?"
"You can only use strengthening, right? You said that's all you can use, so then, you might be able to take it up to the next level and use 'transformation'. Have you ever been taught about strengthening, transformation, and projection magic?"
"―――――Hm." …A little. Strengthening is used to strengthen something, as the word suggests. People tend to think of strengthening as hardening something, but it actually strengthens the object's effect. For example, swords will become sharper and lamps will become brighter.
I don't think I need to explain too much for transformation, either. For example, you can't create a fire with an edged weapon. That which attaches abilities beyond the normal effects is called transformation. And projection I think was―――
"…? What was projection, Tohsaka? I remember my father talking about it often."
"You know about strengthening and transformation, right? Then I would think you'd naturally know what projection is. Well, in short, it's magic that reproduces something. It's not magic that elaborates on something that's already there. Basically, it's magic that constructs something from nothing, so it's the hardest."
"Oh… but magical energy is used only once, right? So something made with 'projection' disappears quickly. Comparing a 'projected' sword made with ten magical energy and a 'strengthened' sword with one magical energy, the 'strengthened' one is stronger. You only need to work on something that's already there, so strengthening is more efficient. In that light, projection uses too much magical energy, so it's not a magic that's widely used."
"…Oh, I remember. I think my father was saying something like that. He said something about not doing it because it wasn't worth it."
"That's it. All right, let's finish up if you're done asking questions. …You seem rather unsteady, so I'll at least take you to your room."
I let her accompany me back to my room. And Saber is waiting for me at the doorway.
"Well done, both of you." "……" I don't even have the energy to respond. I answer with just a nod and enter my room.
"How is Shirou, Rin?" "Bad. He's really bad. He doesn't have the talent." It's a merciless statement, just like Tohsaka.
…And then, when I notice, I'm looking up at the night sky. Tonight, I didn't run away because I felt uneasy about Saber. I'm just feeling the night wind, finding my burning body and the things Tohsaka taught me impossible to manage.
"…But once I'm really able to use this switch thing, then the problem is only the procedure. I'm worried about the future if I'm failing so much at the easiest magic of strengthening…"
I murmur and start to put my magical energy into the plank I brought out from the shed. ――A cracking sound. The strengthening failed as I expected, and the wood has a crack in it.
"…I can even see the structure inside of it, so why can't I control my magical energy?" Tohsaka said I'm straining too much. She also said it's fine with just a small amount of magical energy, so I should just think about enforcing the weak spots in the object. …In short, does she mean I should ease up a bit?
"…I already know that without having to have her tell me." The problem is, I don't have any way to ease up. It would be great if there was some good way to relax and―― "……" Footsteps that seem to seep into the night. This presence rudely approaches me for the second time.
"…What? I don't have any business with you." "I feel the same way. But it seems Rin is worried about you, so I could not overlook it."
"……" I throw the plank away, glaring at Archer. And then, Archer picks up the plank as if he's interested in it.
"Strengthening magic, huh? But it sure is badly done." "…! Huh, I know I'm just an amateur. I feel bad for putting extra work on your Master." "No, that is not it. Even Rin is mistaken on this matter." "Huh…? What do you mean by――"
"Huh, work on something that is already there? That's aiming too high. You are not skilled enough to do such a thing." "Wha…!"
He's saying what he likes when I'm letting him…! …But he is so correct, I can't answer. It's true that I'm unskilled, and it's my fault that I cannot succeed at the magic. It's no good taking it out on this guy.
"――What? You don't have the energy you did last night?" "Shut up. I just stopped talking because you were right. It's all my fault for not being skilled enough."
I look away. I don't know how he took it. "…Hm. Maybe you are unlucky with your teachers in a way." Archer says so as if he's amazed.
"Huh…? That can't be true. My father and Tohsaka are good at teaching, so it must be me that's a bad student."
"――That is why. For you, a magus that doesn't know anything would suit you better. A genius cannot understand the agony of an ordinary person. Rin is too good a student to realize the mistake of a dropout."
"…?" I don't get what Archer wants to say. I don't get it, but to guess from his words…
"I don't get it, but I think you're looking for a fight." I'll take it right now, free of charge. "That is a mistake as well. Emiya Shirou is not fit for fighting. Because your fight is supposed to be a mental fight, a fight with your own self."
"Hm… you're saying that a fight between magi is a mental fight, right? I already know that. But still, a fight has to be exchange of blows."
"Geez. Saber will be in trouble if you are like that." Archer looks down at me seriously. In his eyes are things I haven't seen before… real dejection and anger.
"Listen carefully because I will only say this once. Look. Emiya Shirou has no chance of winning if it comes down to fighting. None of your skills will be any use against a Servant."
"…!" That's something Saber said to me. She said that no matter what kind of clever scheme I use, Emiya Shirou has no chance of victory in battle.
"In that case, at least imagine it. If it is an opponent you cannot match in real life, beat it in your imagination. If you cannot beat it yourself, imagine something that you could beat it with. ――After all, that is the only thing you can do."
"Wha―――" I don't know why. But it feels like Archer's words naturally pass into me.
I should not forget those words. I think that what this man is saying is something that should never be forgotten――
"…There is something wrong with me advising someone I need to kill. I guess the kindness of Rin has transferred to me." Archer disappears suddenly. Archer was just supposed to keep watch. I bet he jumped back onto the roof where it's fit for keeping watch.
"…What's with him?" I complain at the guy that disappeared. There's no reply. Ruminating on the words that linger horribly in my head, I feel the cold winter air on my burning body.
…I'm dreaming. It must be because my blood is hot and my body is pulsing. I am reliving the scene I don't need to remember.
It's my oldest memory. At the same time, it is a memory that can't be separated from me. A scene from ten years ago that never goes away, even though I usually never recall it. It's not that I forgot it. It's not that I want to forget it. For me, it is just something that has already happened.
So it's not something I feel pain over. It's not something I feel particularly angry about.
What's past is past. I cannot redo it, nor go back to it. I have escaped from that scene and still continue to live. All I can do is look forward.
…No one told me to. I just vaguely thought like this ever since I was a child. Not forgetting or denying the past. The only way to make use of what has gone away is to acknowledge it―――
"Ah――uh." I wake up because of the burning heat in my body. …How long was I asleep? I guess I fell asleep while feeling the night wind, without returning to my room.
In the dim shed, there's me and―――
"…! Saber…!?" "You have awakened, Shirou. I do not mind you escaping out of your room, but it is slovenly for you to sleep here." ――There is Saber's figure, looking like she wants to complain to me.
"Oh, morning. Well, I was hot last night and went outside, so I guess I fell asleep then."
"I can tell. Please do not worry about excuses, but take more care next time. My position will be in question if my Master sleeps in a place like this."
"Ugh… sorry, I'll try to sleep in my room as much as possible from now on." "If you understand, I am glad. By the way, Shirou. Taiga has been calling for you."
"Fuji-Nee is? What would she want me for?" "It must be about breakfast. It is already past time for breakfast." "Eh――whoa, it's already past seven…!? Damn, I overslept…!"
"It seems so. It is unusual for you to wake up last. Rin's training last night must have tired you quite a lot." Saber analyzes the situation calmly. But I don't have that much composure.
"Sorry for making you wake me up, but could you go back first? I'll change and head to the kitchen too." "Yes. Then I shall try to calm Taiga down as much as possible."
Saber leaves with calm footsteps. But, calm down Fuji-Nee…? Saber has already adapted quite well to the mornings at our house.
I run into the kitchen. Ignoring Fuji-Nee's vilification, I prepare breakfast in about five minutes.
"Sorry to keep you waiting. There isn't much time till school starts, so eat quickly." I put the breakfast onto the table. "Wha――" And then.
"What is this!!?" Fuji-Nee explodes.
"What is this!? There's only toast! Shirou, why is this the only thing for breakfast…!?"
"…Hey now, I slept in, so it can't be helped. There's no time to make anything else. Anyways, a meal with bread is basically just this. We're just missing salad and egg, so there's not much difference."
"Of course there's a difference! Don't the rest of you think so too!?" Fuji-Nee asks Tohsaka and Saber, who are eating silently. But she shouldn't be so optimistic. Those two aren't as greedy as Fuji-Nee is. They won't agree with her.
"…You're right. I'm not Fujimura-Sensei, but I cannot forgive such laziness. I can only consider this an insult to the bread." …Hey, hold on. I thought you don't usually eat breakfast!
"………Sigh." Whoa, what was that sigh that sounded like obvious disappointment!? Did your character change, Saber!?
"See, everyone agrees Shirou is the one at fault. It's decided by majority rule, so go and make a proper breakfast when you've repented your actions." "I can't follow such an unfair match! First of all, you'll be late if I make something now. It's already seven thirty. You won't make it in time unless you run while eating, so I suggest you give up on that idea!"
"It's fine. If I have to choose between being late and being hungry, I'll choose breakfast." "Don't do that! What teacher in the world would do that…!? It's fine, so eat and go to school quickly. I'll tell you this, but I won't be cooking any breakfast other than this."
"Hmmm. Geez, you're diligent in the weirdest places. If you keep talking like an old man, you'll become really old quickly."
"You don't need to tell me. I already have the tastes of an old man because of you, Fuji-Nee." So saying, I start eating my toast. …Well, it's true. There is something desolate about having only toast for breakfast when there's this many people.
The sounds of the shinais echo. The substance of the fight is the same as always.
I attack desperately, while Saber blocks my blows easily and counters with an attack twice as sharp as mine. I manage to block it, attack even stronger, and lose――we are repeating the same match over and over.
"Ha――Haa, haa, hah." I stand still and breathe deeply. Wiping the sweat off my forehead with my arm, I calm my breathing.
"What are you resting for? You would not have given up at this point yesterday. Here, come attack me."
"No――hold on. I need to catch my breath. Let's rest a bit."
"What are you saying? If you will not attack, I will just attack. You do not mind that?" Saber stares at her bad student. But I cannot move my body to my satisfaction, even if she looks at me that way.
"…Sigh. What has gotten into you, Shirou? You are like a different person from yesterday. Your blows that came straight for me were the only thing that amazed me, but I do not feel any power from you this morning."
"…I know that myself, but… I just can't do too well." Well, uh, the situation is too different from yesterday.
"Is the heat in your body still present? But it is no good if your performance decreases just because of that. Please cool down a bit and calm your mind."
"――No. Before that, do something about that thing." I point to the observer by the wall.
"What? Don't mind me and just continue your training."
"……" Tohsaka doesn't understand at all. When she's staring at me like that, I can't concentrate on fighting with Saber.
"You are worried about Rin? That proves even more of your lack of training. "…I understand. In that case, I will make it so that you will not worry about observers." Saber grips her shinai hard.
"Whoa, hold on Saber, my breath isn't――" "There is no problem. You should fix such a problem during battle." Saber disappears from my view.
"――!" The instant I realize this is bad and block my face, Saber's shinai hits me right on my head.
…And so, the training this morning was severe. I wasn't worried about Tohsaka watching after I got knocked out once. As I devoted myself to blocking Saber's blows, it was lunchtime before I knew it.
"But man, Saber really is calm. You didn't even twitch your brow during the whole three hours you fought with Shirou. You don't talk much normally, but it's even more true when you're in a battle. It feels like you're a machine or something."
Tohsaka is in a good mood, I think because she saw me getting beat around a lot. The two are in the living room, resting. As for me, I'm preparing lunch by myself as a punishment for not being serious this morning. …Geez. I want to cut corners and finish quickly by making something like white noodles.
"Machine-like…? I see, I have never been conscious of it, but I may be turning off my emotions while I wield the sword. It must be the same even in training."
"Hmm. Could that be in preparation for holding a sword even though you're a girl? Like, not losing in spirit because you're inferior in physique?"
"That is incorrect, Rin. Being calm is part of readiness for battle, but that should be no different for a man or a woman. Even you should shut down your emotions during battle. You are the kind who is able to."
"Hm… you're pretty direct. Well, it's true, though. But yours is definitely different from mine. I only shut out my generosity. I can't be as objective as you are."
"It seems so. That must be why you are so gorgeous. You keep the elegance of a woman even during battle."
"What, is that sarcasm? I can't beat you in gorgeousness. …I'll admit it since Shirou is way over there, but I was fascinated by your beauty when I first saw you." …No, I can hear you, Tohsaka.
"――You must have been misunderstanding. If my figure looked gorgeous, it must be that my class of Saber looked gorgeous."
"That's not it. I just felt like I've lost as a woman. …I wouldn't have been so shocked otherwise."
"…I am saying that you are mistaken. I have never thought of myself as a woman, and I have never been treated as one. It cannot be true that I am gorgeous."
Saber's comment stops the conversation. "―――――" As I use the kitchen knife, I feel irritated by Saber's comment.
"…I've been wondering for a while, but just what does she think she is?" I take a big swing at the chicken meat. For some reason, I'm getting annoyed.
――I have never thought of myself as a woman
"――Heh. It's none of my business…!" I strike hard at the cutting board with my knife. But doing so doesn't make me feel even one bit better.
"These are today's task. We've got more than yesterday and you seem calmer today, so you should succeed."
I don't know how she brought them here, but Tohsaka brings out about forty lamps.
"I'm going outside. I'll be back in a while, so finish up by then." Saying goodbye, Tohsaka leaves the room.
"――Sigh." Well. Yesterday night was bad, so I should at least succeed at one or two tonight.
"…Phew. Half done, for now." It took me one hour to try "strengthening" on about twenty lamps. Half of them broke, and the other half showed no change. But out of the ones that didn't break, five of them had magical energy successfully channeled into them. All I have to do now is to challenge the twenty that are left, but――
"…… Hold on. Maybe five is enough as a test?" It seems like all the lamps are antiques. I feel bad about breaking any more of them.
"…Hmm." Yeah, I should――

2023 summary of art!
didn’t get to draw as much as i wanted this year, but i got to join two zines for the first time! :0
progress probably didn’t come to me as strong this year, but animation-wise, i want to think i got a bit better.
i talk a little bit about each month under the cut, as well as link to each piece displayed.
january + february: i actually couldn’t find the files for these drawings anymore. hopefully i didn’t delete it 3:
march: this took nearly the whole month of february! instead of it being a valentine’s gift, it became a white day gift hehe.
~april/may: desert bloom zine piece! our theme was gaara’s relationship with plants :0 this was completed way ahead of the deadline hehe.
may: my first delve into explicit gore! tbh i still really like this a lot.
june: this was the first of a series of smaller pieces made for CR pride month! i realized here that i’m kinda crazy when it comes to prompts, to the point of not really following them to the T.
july: this one was honestly just fun for me!! magne is one of my favorite characters to draw, and ATSV kind of inspired me a bit too since the themes of his story and that are pretty similar.
august: jellypocalypse zine piece!! i think this could have been better, but in terms of textures, it’s still very beautiful.
september: not sure what else to say here since there’s still a lot of context that isn’t shared here, but PMMM is very good!! admittedly it’s very loose, but again textures come in clutch.
october: what else to add here, hm! this land is inhospitable and so are we was the album i kept listening to as i was playing and developing the first outlines for eo4/iotaf, and the frost reminded me of WW a lot. an image that i associate with both the album and the story is a cup of warm coffee left on a table, with the sun shining from a nearby window, so i hope i get to give that feeling in future pieces related to this story!
~october/november: this one was fun for me too! i wanted to get back into drawing a bit more realistically, and i think i was on the right track! baldur was originally going to be on the lower right, but since i couldn’t really nail his face shape, i went with tlachtga instead!
december: another fun one! like october, this was made in one go. covid had a hold of me during this time, so i had compass on blast for the whole five hours haha.

March 4, 2024
Hm, it's been about a week since I last wrote. that's encouraging. this feels regular, somewhat consistent. it usually isn't a good sign when i either write too frequently or too infrequently.
Recap: Monday, February 26: Ended up going to Tam O'Shanter with Patti around 7pm. she kinda loved it. we had some drinks, prime ribs, and shared a sticky toffee cake thing a la mode. i drank a bit too much but it was okay having ubered. should note not to drink white wine though. low key kind of hate it, especially the nausea the next day.
Tuesday, February 27: In office day, and Joyce provided lunch. i think we had sandwiches. i bussed into work and back, and picked up my car. it ended up being a battery issue and he did not seem to acknowledge that i had a windshield wiper fluid issue but whatever.
Wednesday, February 28: can't think of anything. work.
Thursday, February 29: work, and walked over to the local library at lunch to print out my livescan application.
Friday, March 1: pretty busy. Got gas at Costco, had a 9am appointment in Burbank for my livescan for volunteering at the shelter, handwashed my car for about an hour at the coin op car wash in glendale, and then met up with Patti at 11a.m. at my favorite thai massage place, followed by lunch at Night Market Song, then a loop around the silver lake reservoir. it was a nice time, with good conversation, and i left around 3:30pm to avoid traffic.
Saturday, March 2: just slept. all day. watched youtube. didn't do anything. slept some 11-12 hours.
Sunday, March 3: too much. church in the morning, lunch with my mom, descanso gardens with grace y and caroline, then off to long beach for a dinner party at stephen's, including amir, and some others, for a total party of 9. it was pretty fun, and everyone was nice. i felt that amir might've been uncomfortable, but that's likely because he felt out of place being either the only or one of two straight people at the party.
today was a productive day. worked, washed dishes, checked on Thor three times, handwashed a couple items of clothing, took a morning walk and a nice long lunch walk. ate yogurt, granola, and fruit for breakfast, a giant pasta lunch, and then some salad for dinner. balance.
the week ahead: trader joe's for groceries, withdrawing some cash for next week's massages with lana and a haircut for myself sometime this month. a birthday dinner for lana on saturday with 4-5 of her friends, and hopefully church on sunday. i also need to file my taxes and some sort of IRS filing for my little defunct LLC.
i'm lately feeling the need to mature. to think before i speak. to not just be spastic and quirky and undisciplined. i remember when i was in 7-8th grade and i would see the senior girls and think wow, so poised, so elegant, it'll be so neat to be a senior and transform into that. and i didn't. i was still super scruffy, hair messy, clothes unkempt, runny nose, just kinda gross. and now....i'm afraid not much has changed. but it's really time that i grow up. that i stop having to apologize for offending people, that i stop throwing myself impulsively at people who will not have me, at drinking too much, then crying too much, then hiding in shame.
i'm also realizing that lately the thing that i'm most self-conscious about is my appearance, and more recently, my weight. i feel that in general, i would look better thinner/fitter, and that especially clothes would look better on me. even if i saw an item of clothing that i thought looked good on the hanger, or on a model, i know that that will not translate onto me, and it makes me want to avoid shopping, and just in general feeling left out of that whole equation.
in other respects though, things seem to be chugging along. more routines, more structure, more writing, more cleaning, chipping away at the physical messes in my life. i deep-cleaned my car over the weekend and wiped down as much i could of the interior, and it felt like a relief to have that thin layer of dirt cleaned off.
i also bought some aerosol spray so i could clean off my laptops, and just ordered some electronics screen spray so i could clean my monitors as well. i'm just feeling a need and desire to just get to the things that i've been putting off. to get into those corners. to address the seemingly sagging portions of my ceiling, to replace the piping under my kitchen sink, to get a window guy to fix up some of the malfunctioning windows.
in the meantime, i have work and chores during the week, and usually 1-2 social functions on the weekends, one coworking day with danielle a month, and just .... just chugging along i guess.
it still feels like remarkable process though from 6 months or a year ago. i even considered briefly restarting up the self-improvement youtube, but ... who knows. i'll need to take down the videos where i'm just sobbing inconsolably. but even just the whisper of a thought to restart that was interesting to me.
it feels like progress.

we only have 15 minutes, sugar
pairings; eren jaeger x reader
content warning; mentions of past jean x reader, oral sex, masturbation, recording, manhandling?
Tumblr media
february 19th
you always found eren jaeger attractive, especially tonight at this party. his long hair thrown up into a messy bun, his white shirt with water split on it - making it see through. god you were about to start counting his abs. but who you were really here for? jean. you guys weren’t in a relationship or anything, just friends who liked to help eachother. it started off when you guys would go to eachother for advice or he would find himself in your dorm room ranting to you. just helping eachother with little problems of course. that doesn’t mean sucking his dick was that much of a stretch from it, right?
anyways jean was in a frat house, along side eren. they were throwing a party, and somehow jean convinced you to stop by. you didn’t know if you were regretting it or not. jean was no where to be seen so you just sat yourself on the kitchen counter drinking some punch you found in a bowl. you were admiring eren from a far, remembering all the bad things jean had said about him. how he just annoys the living shit out of him. but god, how attractive he was. you could’ve sworn you looked down at your phone for not even a minute when you heard someone clear their voice right in front of you. you looked up to be met with eren.
“uh hi?”
“hey hey! erm- y/n. we had physics last semester together. eren, eren yeager.”
yeah, i already know your name
“oh hi!”
“my friend reiner over there says he knows ‘ya too. wanna come play truth or dare with us in the backyard hm?”
slipping your phone into the pocket of your shorts, you jumped off the counter, centimeters away from eren.
he let out a low chuckle, placing his hands on the counter, trapping you inbetween the granite and himself. he looked you right in the eye before reaching one of his hands back to grab a chip in the bowl behind where you were sitting. your breathing shakened a bit and you rolled your eyes at him, looking down.
he let out another chuckle before grabbing your chin and tilting it up, forcing you to look at him. “no need to roll your eyes sugar. if you were expectin-wanting something else, just say it. i’m not a mind reader baby.” he gave you a little wink before letting you go and backing up.
“i erm- i gotta pee i’ll meet you guys outside.”
he gave you a small head pat before running towards the back door.
right when you turned around to head to the bathroom you crashed right into jean, stumbling back a bit.
“oh hey jean!”
he sent you a blunt hey and started walking to the back door with an annoyed look on his face.
tch, what’s his problem.
your little bathroom excuse wasn’t actually an exuse, the amount of punch you were drinking finally caught up to you. right after you sat down your two best friends since birth, sasha and connie came bursting through the door, hysterically cracking up.
“YOO IM TRYING TO PISS.”
ignoring your comment they both collapsed onto the counter laughing their asses off.
you lightly smacked sasha on the back of her head, since she was the laughing the closest to you. “i swear if one of you idiots don’t tell me what the problem is-”
“YOUR BOYFRIENDS ARE OUTSITE FIGHTING OVER YOU-” connie said between laughs practically screaming.
“my who?”
“JEAN AND EREN. I-I ASKED FLOCH WHY THEY WERE FIGHTING AND THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF YOU AND HOW JEAN IS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT HOW YOU ARE SO GOOD AT SU-”
“GOD SASHA YOU DONT HAVE TO TELL HER THAT PART”
“CAN YOU GUYS STOP SCREAMING!”
“SORRY, sorry y/n. apparently jean saw you and eren in the kitchen and well, tried beating eren up.”
letting out a sigh you pulled up your pants and ran out of the bathroom.
running outside you found jean knocked out in the arms of marco and eren standing up, wiping some blood out of the corner of his mouth while winking at you. walking right up to him you slapped him right across the face.
he let out a deep, long chuckle.
“i need to talk to you.”
“lead the way sugar.”
you grabbed his arm and pulled him inside while feeling every single pair of eyes on you.
“where’s your room.”
“if you wanted to get me in bed you could’ve just asked baby.”
god can anyone be that full of themselves
“no - no. i don-”
“i’m just joking sugar. follow me.”
he grabbed your hand and led you up into his room, closing the door behind him.
“what the hell was that all about.”
“for the record he started it. he got jealous for no reason and i wasn’t going to let him use me and his rag doll. and you shouldn’t be with someone like jean anyway. you should hear the way he brags about you being his bitch whenever the house is hanging out.” eren plopped down onto his bed
with that you didn’t know who to be mad at this point. he patted his lap signaling you to come over and sit on it. ignoring him you rolled your eyes and sat down next to him, causing him to chuckle again.
“you should clean your wounds that looks pretty deep on your cheek. and take a shower you smell like dirt and grass.”
he got up and headed over to his bathroom door. leaning on the door frame he turned back around.
“only if you stay.”
“hmph, i’ll think about it.”
15 minutes later eren walked out of the bathroom. you were no where to be found. he did know that he’d get back to you one day, considering you left your phone number on a gum wrapper in place of where you were sitting.
february 26
friday strolled around as quick as ever. this week you talked to eren a few times. he texted you on sunday night to have a good week. sicne he was being nice you replied with a “you too:’)”
after that he texted you yesterday afternoon asking if you wanted to come to another party. you never responded, and now it’s friday, 2:05. you just finished all your classes, and you’d be lying if you said you had anything else to do. well except for the pile of homework you usually wait until sunday to do.
sighing you texted him back saying you already had plans and wouldn’t be able to make it. after that you decided to take a short nap. what you thought would be a short nap turned into you sleeping until 6:30. you figured you should get up and get some dinner. you decided to grub hub some taco bell and eat it in the dinning hall. after getting your food you sat down in the corner of the room. it was pretty empty since it was pretty late for dinner.
“ouch, i’m offended.”
you turned around at the familiar voice
“even jean could convince you to come out but i get some lame exuse.”
“it, it wasn’t an exuse. i do have plans.”
“yeah with yourself.” he pulled over a nearby chair and sat next to you.
“i ditched the party, it was pretty boring.”
“so you came to bother me?” you said while still stuffing your face with your food
“yeah pretty much, you wanna hangout?”
“i mean do i really have a choice?”
he leaned over and grabbed one of your nachos, shoving it in his face.
“no not really sugar.”
rolling your eyes you threw out your garbage and led him to your dorm room. since it wasn't that far of a walk, neither of you said anything on the way there. he just simply followed you.
once you got into your room you shut the door behind you.
“if you’re sitting on my bed then shoes off.”
“demanding” he said while slipping his shoes off and plopping onto your bed
“soo..” he said as you sat down next to him.
“wanna watch a movie or something? i see you have a tv in here.”
“sure, let me just fix my blankets so get up.”
he nodded and chuckled, getting up. you pulled down your comforter so there was room to get in, and threw all your blankets into the corner before grabbing your remote and slipping into your bed.
“is this an invitation to come lay with you under your blankets.”
“shut the light.” you said while pressing power on the remote.
the last thing you remember from that night was cracking up with eren over some stupid movie the two of you put on. before you knew it you woke up with a tight grip around your waist. you look over to see eren, still sound asleep. he was so pretty. you figured the two of you just fell asleep while watching movies yesterday. moments like these you were grateful your roommate was on back at home for family issues.
you tried slipping out of his grip before he pulled you back in and groaned. he was still sleeping so you figured you weren't getting up anytime soon, so you closed your eyes and drifted off back to sleep. you woke up about two hours later to find no eren, but a note.
forgot i have to work on a project with floch. i had fun last night, lets do it again soon :)
you were in a good mood the rest of the day.
may 15
its almost been four months since you've met eren. you also cut off your contact with jean. he was a good fuck while it lasted. over the last four months you and eren got closer than ever. hanging out almost everyday, going to parties together, falling asleep cuddling every weekend, you name it. yet again, friday came around. instead of cuddling, you and eren decided to go to a party at some sorority house.
three hours later you were sitting in a circle with a bunch of people you recognized / were friends with. you were all playing a game of truth or dare, cracking up at each other. everyone’s secrets were coming out and people were doing some crazy things. and the list of things we had to do on campus was piling up. for example, connie has to pull a prank on professor ackerman during class on monday. until it was sasha’s time to ask you.
“hmmm. OH Y?N! truth or dare babes!”
you really had to think this one over. sasha had the power of exposing every single one of your secrets if you picked truth, but she's also kind of crazy so who knows what she would dare you to do. after a small debate in your head you went with dare.
“i pick dare.”
“alright! hmmMMM. i dare you to go into an empty room with eren for 15 minutes.”
you felt the heat rush up to your cheeks when you stood up and stretched your arm out for eren to grab.
you both left the living room and headed up to a room while hearing the small, faint giggles from your friends.
entering the room eren shut and locked the door behind the two of you.
“so.. what do you wanna do?”
“hmm. we only have 15 minutes, sugar.”
this is it. the moment you've been waiting for. you had eren right in front of you. just go up and kiss him already!
as you slowly walked up closer to him. he flipped the both of you, pinning you up against the wall.
“let me see if you taste as sweet as I've imagined, sugar. pleaseee you don't even want to know the amount of times I've fisted myself to the mere thought of it.”
you gave him a nod and that was all he needed to pull you off the wall and push you down onto the bed. pulling up your skirt and pulling down your panties, he grimly smirked.
“don't you dare cum without my permission.” was all he said before going between your legs and flicking his tongue onto your clit. your breathing quickly became heavy and irregular before he shoved two fingers, palm deep into your cunt.
“ahh~ f-fuck eren-” you blurted out while starting to move under his touch, slightly bucking your hips up.
that was until you felt a strong pair of hands hold your hips down.
“stop moving or i’ll stop.” he hissed out before going back down on you, eating you out more forcefully than before, brining you right to your climax.
“f-fuck eren i need to cum- please let me cum. pleaseee~”
“no.” he said while pulling his fingers out of you.
“the only place you’re cummin’ is on my cock. you hear me?”
you wiped away the slight tears forming in the corners of your eye while nodding.
“that's a good little girl.” eren said while smirking
he swiftly grabbed you and flipped you over onto all fours, while shoving your face into the mattress. your first reaction was to perk your ass up for him.
“well someones eager aren't they.” was all he said before pulling down his pants just enough for his fully hard cock to spring out. he could've came just to the feeling of eating you out.
he leaned down into your ear while whispering, “as sweet as sugar.” he started jacking off while still leaning down, before quickly cumming all over your ass.
did he just?
he pulled up his pants before getting up and heading up towards the door.
“well sugar, looks like our time is almost up. we should get back to the ga-” he was cut off by you running up to him and clinging right onto his shirt. practically crying you were blurting out small no’s.
“f-fuck the game, er - eren please just fuck me.” you were so desperate to the point where you were choking on your words.
“aw, i’m sorry baby i didn't mean to make you cry.” he said while stroking your hair and patting your head. “come suck me off in my car and maybe if you do a good job i'll take ya home and fuck you, yeah?
may 18
sitting in your first class of the morning you were bored out of your mind. getting some lecture from professor ackerman after connie drew all over his desk.
that was until you got a snapchat notification from eren. opening it you were oh so grateful you had your headphones in. it was a video of eren cumming all over his laptop with a video of him shoving his cock oh so deep into your pretty little cunt.
with the caption of missin’ the taste, sugar :’(
you’d be sure to pay him a visit during your lunch break.

the sweet scent of roses
Tumblr media
summary: valentine’s day fluff with bakugou and his boyfriend
w.count: 2.2k
content warning: fluff
------------------------------------------------------------
“Hah.”, a heavy sigh escaped his throat as he looked at the disaster in front of him. Chocolate was everywhere on the counter and also on himself, and yet, as Bakugou looked to the side where his present was resting, a small smile flitted across his lips.
Before he started, he was unsure if doing that – making homemade chocolate and all – was even “okay” to do, since this was the first time he had a Valentine and usually, at least in Japan, girls did all these things on the 14th of February, not guys.
But then he realized how fucking stupid it was to let his chance slip away just because of society being fucked up. He was in a happy and healthy relationship for many months now, so fuck him being a guy, he wanted to give you a gift, no matter if one of his idiotic classmates were to find out about it and start whispering secretly behind his back about his role in your relationship as the “girl”.
Though they better not let that slip in front of him or he would blow their heads off for still holding on these fucked up stereotypes.
As he was cleaning the kitchen in his home, his mother only once sticking her head through the opened door to look at what he was doing and giggling as she went away again, he felt a vibration in his pocket. Swiftly pulling out his phone, another smile crept back onto his lips without him even realizing it – my, he was so stupidly much in love.
“Hey, Babe! Since tomorrow is Saturday, can you come over? We can hang out and go back together to the dorms Sunday evening? So take your stuff with you, yeah? (´▽`)”, read the message you had sent him.
“Got it, I’ll come over at around 2?.”, Katsuki sent back, though before he could put away his phone, it vibrated again.
“Ehhh? So late? I know you are not a morning person but I thought you would come over sooner, so we can have lunch and stuff…”, he could almost hear the whine in your voice as he read the message, thus he snorted a bit and giggled to himself.
“Okay, okay. 🙄 Didn’t know you were so clingy! You better be up and ready on 8 then, or I will jump into your bed and put my cold hands and feet in your pants”, Bakugou teased you, though it certainly backfired a little when another message arrived while he was already lazily leaning against the counter, “Oh? 👀 I think I might be oversleeping tomorrow morning then. Be sure to come into bed anytime, Darling(´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)”
Inevitably, Katsuki was blushing a bit and yet a big smirk spread across his face, though before he could answer another message popped up “I gotta go now, Kat! Still have a few things to do, so, tomorrow at 8? :D” which definitely made him curious since it was only around three p.m., so naturally he wondered if you still had to run errands, but he simply replied with an, “Ok, tomorrow at 8. And don’t you dare oversleep if I have to go through the trouble of waking up early for you.”
And before he could continue to clean the kitchen, a short and simple “I’d never let you wait, my prince. Love you 💋” arrived.
“Me too.” was his only response as being open about his feelings was still a little embarrassing to him, though he was working on it and with Valentine’s Day being around the corner and him making you homemade chocolate, it was one step further into the right direction.
-
With a heavy duffle bag on his shoulders and wrapped in his scarf and a thick coat, he finally arrived and rang your doorbell, the snow still cracking underneath his feet as he was moving around on the spot to keep himself warm.
And then, the front door finally opened and he saw your face as you gestured him to come in with a “Good morning, Baby.”, as well as feeling your lips on his for a brief moment as you pecked them, Katsuki simply grumbling as he shivered and hastily walked inside your warm home.
“Fuck, it’s so cold.”, he cursed while he rather carefully put the bag down in order not to hurt the present inside.
“Hmm, I know, come here, let me warm you up, Baby Boy.”, and before he could react, you had gently pulled him closer by his scarf and connected your lips, Bakugou instinctively calming down and leaning into the kisses you shared, sighing blithely.
“Oh, Katsuki-kun, welcome.”, you both then heard from behind you, your boyfriend being very happy that his ears and cheeks were already red from the cold outside as your mother watching you both exchange such sweet kisses was definitely still embarrassing to him.
“(L/n)-san. I- uhm-“, he cleared his throat while you giggled a bit, “Sorry for the intrusion.”
Though your mother simply smiled lovingly, before she turned around with an “I’m going to make tea, yes? It’s so cold outside!” and went into the kitchen, you yelling a “Thanks, Mom.” after her.
“Thank you, (L/n)-san.”, Bakugou also said while undressing, your giggle as you watched him making him simply cock his head with a chuckled “Hm? What?” while putting his shoes away.
“Oh, it’s nothing.”, you shook your head, the raised eyebrow from your lover making you snicker again though, “Really, it’s nothing. I just like seeing you and my Mom get along, you know?”
“Oh…”, then a small smile appeared on his lips as he grabbed his duffle bag and the moment he walked past you, Katsuki quickly rose to his tiptoes to peck your lips, before you both walked into the kitchen where you grabbed the little tray with the tea cups on it so you and Bakugou could finally walk upstairs into your room.
Once he put the bag down and flopped onto your bed, the smell of your shampoo and cologne crept into his nose and he felt a sense of “being home” since he came over so often that it truly did feel like his second home by now. Though he certainly was happy when you could both move in together after graduation.
“Here, Kat, drink your tea before it gets cold.”, you gestured to the small table in the middle of your room, hence he grumbled a bit, because he loved laying in your bed and being able to smell your scent, but slipped down nonetheless.
“Where are you going?”, he then asked when you suddenly stood up.
“I forgot something in the kitchen downstairs, I’ll be back in a sec, yeah?”, Katsuki closed his eyes when you leaned in to peck his lips, his “Okay.” merely breathed.
Watching as you walked outside, he stared at the door for a few seconds, only to turn back and finally reach for the cup of tea. An immediate sigh escaped his lips when the warmth spread through his body, though not for long as he took another sip when the door suddenly opened.
“Y/n!”, his eyes widened and simultaneously a gasp was heard once he saw the big bouquet of roses – in an instant excitement ran through his veins, making his hands sweaty due to his quirk.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, my love.”, you grinned lovingly as you closed the door with your foot and then kneeled down in front of him, Katsuki simply speechless for a moment, heart jumping in his chest and cheeks painted in a soft rosy color.
“But it’s tomorrow.”, was the only thing he could mumble, completely flabbergasted, your laugh however didn’t help to calm down his racing heart as he loved the sound of it.
“I know, Katsuki. But I wanted to spend the weekend with you, but I also wanted to give you something because of Valentine’s Day, so I kind of…was in a predicament.”
“So, you decided to give me the gift today so the roses wouldn’t wither without their water?”, Katsuki thought out loud, earning your nod.
“Yes, I thought this was the best decision. So…here. I hope you like it. I know you are not so much of a sweets guy, but I hope you will like them”, the way you smiled was seriously dangerous for his heart, his usual scowl had disappeared and instead, a soft smile that only you got to see, appeared.
“Fuck… I- … Thank you.”, was then the only thing he said while taking the bouquet of roses and the chocolate, before leaning in and connecting your lips. Immediately, he got pulled into your embrace, while you deepened the kiss, Bakugou’s arm that was only holding the little present slung around your neck while your lips melted together perfectly.
“I… I also have something for you.”, he mumbled after pulling away a bit, instantly earning your excited smile and feeling the way your heart also jumped in your chest as you were glued together like that.
Carefully putting the roses and the gift onto the small table, Katsuki pulled the duffle bag closer and pulled out the homemade chocolate from yesterday.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Y/n.”, he almost said…shyly? Bakugou was seriously adorable.
“Thank you. I’m…so happy.”, the way you grinned and almost glowed definitely emphasized your words even more as you took the heart shaped gift, before leaning down and resting your forehead against his. “I love you, thank you.”
“I…”, it was still a little hard to say, but with how his heart was beating a million miles per hour, he simply gulped down the lump in his throat and said with his usual raspy voice, “I love you, too.”
Only to blush and grunt a bit as he buried his face at your shoulder, which made you laugh in return.
“Can I tell you something?”, you asked with a giggle in your voice, Katsuki merely grunting approvingly. “I… was a little nervous today. You know, when I went out to buy chocolate to make my own gift, all the girls and even employees in shops were staring at me weird… Which made me insecure and I thought, maybe it’s weird giving my boyfriend something for Valentine’s Day. But… I am glad I did it and didn’t care about the stares.”
You hugged him tightly to snuggle him softly and pepper sweet kisses onto the right side of his face, while Bakugou was silent for a few moments, just enjoying. Though then, he also remembered how he felt yesterday, which gave him a small sting in his chest.
“I felt the same. It’s fucked up. Yesterday, I… also was scared if you would think it’s weird if I give you something. Since it’s only marketed at girls, I didn’t want others to see me as the girl. God, just saying it out loud makes me cringe. Like, why can’t we just be seen as two guys? No one is a fucking girl.”, he sighed heavily and looked up into your e/c eyes.
“I know. Valentine’s Day should be for everyone to express their love to their partner, no matter if it’s romantically or platonically.”
“I mean we have supernatural, alien quirks that make people do weird shit but a guy buying chocolate leading up to Valentine’s Day is still looked at weird. Society fucking sucks.”, he grunted and rolled his eyes before you both fell against the softness of your bed, leaning against it and looking at each other.
“It does. I just want to kiss you when we’re out and about without people staring.”, you sighed while lacing your fingers together to gently draw with your thumb on the back of his hand.
“But you know what? I don’t give a fuck if they stare.”, Bakugou then smirked and leaned in more to whisper, “The harder they stare the more I will make out with you.”
“Hmm? Now that… is something I like to hear.”, and with that, you pulled him back against your strong chest, your free arm snuck around his small waist and his muscular body cuddling against your own.
For a few moments, it was quiet as you savored each other’s presences, however in the end, Katsuki looked back up and kissed the side of your face.
“You know, no one is staring at us right now, but…”, he didn’t end the sentence, instead, a smirk spread across his face, the mischievous gleam in his ruby eyes you loved so much made you also grin and teasingly tilt your head to the side a bit. However, you couldn’t keep on grinning like that when he grabbed your collar and pulled you down eventually, lips colliding and a murmuring sound escaping your throat.
All on its own, your hand reached out to bury it inside his spiky hair, pulling him as closely against your chest as you could. Sweet murmurs and soft little whines were the only sounds he could make, completely melting against your body.
Now, Bakugou was very thankful that he went through with his idea and didn’t let himself get swayed by society’s views on Valentine’s Day. Knowing that something he made with his own hands could make you so happy truly made him also happy. And as the lovely scent of the roses mixed together with your own in front of him, he couldn’t help but think that having a Valentine was really something very special.
Not that he would have ever said that out loud.

Auxilium (College!Xiao x College!Reader)
TW: mentions blood, depression, anxiety
note: it's my first time writing and posting something on tumblr so im sorry if it's bad!! reader is gn hehe.
Late February was never a good time for Xiao.
It was the second month of the year; People were starting to adjust and adapt to the ever-changing and progressing timeline. Although, he never really understood the concept of the "New year, new me!" shtick. Humans make decisions that eventually shape their personalities. What does a new year have anything to do with that? Does a change in the year automatically make you a good person? Does it make you less of an asshole than you might already be? He never really understood.
He found it rather silly, actually. Whenever a new year rolls around, Xiao would mutter silent curses to himself because he'd write the wrong year on his papers. Other than that, there wasn't any significant changes he made in his daily routine. He was still the same Xiao; The same anxious, mildly depressed, and coffee-high art major Xiao.
Now, Xiao was a respected figure in their college (or at least, that's what he was told). He was one of the most talented artists at Tokyo University, and professors have been eyeing him for a scholarship overseas (he, along with his brooding and mysterious senior, Diluc). His keen eye for details always produce great results as most of his portraits are featured in the university's gallery of students' greatest works. Not to mention, one of his larger canvas works were displayed at the Tokyo Museum, making him one of the youngest artists to have their art showcased there.
Admittedly, Xiao was aware of how people admired his talent. Unfortunately, due to a rough childhood where his parents barely showed him any love and affection, he had trouble reflecting his true emotions onto other people. That's why other art majors often labelled him as a self-absorbed, egotistical prick.
Xiao was the last person you'd want to compliment. It's not that he'd be a dick about it or that he'd scowl at you and act as if he was better than you in every way possible. It wasn't like that at all. It's simply because Xiao doesn't know how to handle compliments. He'll still keep his stoic face, lips pressed in a straight line, but deep inside, he'd be flustered to bits. He'd try to internalize his reply, stitching together the right words to express his gratitude, but it would always take him a few minutes. The person who complimented him would've already left after he finally constructed the sentence in his head. Not that he wasn't used to it
This led to Xiao earning his current reputation, as stated earlier. He was already expecting the rest of his college years to be spent alone in his studio, working on his artworks during the wee hours of the night, high on the fumes of his paint palette and his exhausted coffee machine.
Until you came.
Kaoru was... eccentric. You were loud, you were moody. He felt like you'd be the type of person he'd hate dealing with just because you was unpredictable. You were like the rain, and Xiao hated the rain.
He must have an Archon's cursed tongue, because he got paired up with you during the first semester of their second year in college. You were a familiar name to him, as you were in the same course since the first year, but he barely knew anything about you since you were in different classes.
"Hey, Xiao! I'm _____. I hope we can be good friends by the end of the semester!" His memory of your bright smile still remains vivid in his head. He wasn't really a brooding type like Diluc, but Xiao liked to believed that he presented himself as a silent person who had no intentions of interacting with other people. So, how were you so bubbly around him? Because she was forced to do so? You were to be his partner for the whole semester, after all. Maybe it was all formalities. Yeah, that's probably it.
"Hm." Xiao gave a nod in her direction, acknowledging your existence. you heard from your friends that the young artist didn't have a pleasing personality, but you weren't expecting to be shutdown from the get-go.
"Mind if I sit beside you?"
Again, a light nod.
You felt the awkward tension between you and Xiao, and you hated it. You were a person who hated it when people are uncomfortable in your presence. You didn't want to be a bother, and you did your best to make everyone like you. Not that you were a people pleaser, nor an attention hog, but you just wanted to get along with everyone.
The lecture was going to begin in twenty minutes, so the lecture hall was yet to be filled with people. You took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with the amber eyed man beside you, who was typing away on his laptop. Something about color theory and how it affects the perspective of people on different art types? You couldn't really see that well. He was a fast typer.
"So, Xiao, I heard that your painting was displayed in the Tokyo Museum last year. It must have been an honor. I was at the unveiling last year and I saw it up-close." You started off, testing the waters.
"And what did you think of it?" Xiao cringed internally. He meant to genuinely ask for your feedback regarding his art, but it sounded so harsh that he wanted to punch himself when he saw you wince (or maybe you shuddered because it was cold and you were wearing a sleeveless top? His nerves were getting the better of him at this point).
"Well, a lot of my friends told me that it wasn't anything special,"
Ouch.
"It was a large canvas. I can still remember how it looks. But, maybe that's because I'm at the museum every two weeks," You laughed. You noticed how Xiao's breathing noticeably changed after you started your sentence, and you have to admit that it sounded a bit too mean.
"You know, Xiao. My friends told me that your art was simple. Anyone could have done it. But honestly, they couldn't be more wrong. I love how your piece was painted. Auxilium. I'll never forget what you called it. That's... Help, right?"
At first, Xiao didn't want to listen to this person ramble about an art piece he made during one of the lowest points of his life.
His anti-depressants had run out during that one Christmas. It was 2:47 in the morning. He had morning classes the following day. He had a project to submit, but he was unable to continue working because of the unbearable pain in his chest. His head was throbbing. Voices were invading his mind. Flashbacks of his parents' negligence taunted him. He rushed to grab a glass of water, chugging it down in almost three chugs. He slammed the glass back onto the counter, smashing it into tiny little splinters and cutting himself in the process. His hand was bleeding, there were bits of glass on his counter and on his floor, but he couldn't care less. He was heaving, his breathing was unsteady, he wanted to die right then and there. His vision became blurry, but he rushed back to his studio.
With a bleeding hand, he picked up his brush and began to tear into his canvas. Not literally, but he started to create strokes onto the blank canvas. Different colors, different textures (he swore some of his blood got blended in with the area where he painted the sunrise, but it's fine. No one was going to notice, right?). He screamed and cried, wanting to throw the entire easel out his window.
It was Christmas. He was alone in his apartment. His anti-depressants ran out. He was having a panic attack.
That night led him to having one of the worst breakdowns he could remember, but he also ended up with a gorgeous painting that nabbed him a place in the Tokyo Museum.
"Help," Your voice echoed in his ears, snapping him out of his trance.
"People can tell me that it's nothing more than a simple painting, but the way that the sunrise was only showing in a segmented part of the canvas? The way that there were hints of red? It kind of reminded me how a new day can resemble hope but still contain hurt. Like, the promise of a fresh start isn't guaranteed a good one, right?"
Your words rang in his ears like a gong being hit continuously. He wanted to cry. People always complimented him and congratulated him about being recognized by art critics and national museums, but none of them ever really stopped to talk to him about his art. They were there for his recognition- not his work.
"I mean, you could begin with a fresh start, but wouldn't the remnants of yesterday still take a toll on your tomorrow?"
"Hm. Interesting take. To be honest, those specks could have been my blood." Xiao spoke up, to your surprise. A small smile formed on your face. Maybe this guy wasn't so bad after all.
"My hand was cut up when I was painting that," He added quietly, not mentioning why his hand was in that state. "I think I accidentally added too much concentrated red. I couldn't blend it out the way I originally planned."
"Oh? But that makes it all the more great, though!" You beamed, "Maybe it was an Archon guiding you? I don't really believe in that stuff, but acknowledging some divine intervention once in a while can't be all bad, no?" You laughed.
"I guess you're right." For the first time in a while, Xiao actually gave someone else a small smile. It wasn't really a smile per se, but his lips curved even the slightest bit upward, and you decided that it was a win for you.

Fast forward to the second semester of their third year.
Late February was never a good time for Xiao.
It was the second month of the year; People were starting to adjust and adapt to the ever-changing and progressing timeline. Although, he never really understood the concept of the "New year, new me!" shtick.
It had been years since he was clinically-diagnosed with mild depression. So, why was he still that way? Shouldn't new years help him be a better person? Or something like that. Why was he still like this?
Late February meant the end of one semester, and the start of another.
What else did that mean?
His semestral feedback report (he refused to call it a report card. What was he, high school?).
"Xiao? Are you here? I bought almond tofu from Xiangling's place. Sorry for barging in, you weren't answering my calls." He heard your voice from the kitchen and he glanced at the clock on his studio's wall.
1:37 AM.
You were at Xiangling's place because you were working on a report about the history of acrylic paints or whatever it was. You were supposed to go home, but you still dropped by his apartment. He checked his phone.
[ 14 missed calls. ]
Yikes.
"I'm here." He answered meekly, but loud enough for you to hear. He felt tired. Defeated, maybe. He was blankly staring at the canvas in front of him. He has sketched the base of your face and upper body. He was planning on painting a portrait of his beloved to decorate his room with, but he couldn't find the energy to continue.
He could hear the soft "thud"s of your feet walking from the kitchen towards the studio, but he tuned it out with an annoying static he could only hear in his head.
Fuck. Where are they?
He rushed to the drawer next to his easels and rummaged around in a panic.
Where the fuck are they?
He kept a few anti-depressants in his studio because he spends most of his time here and he didn't have time to rush to the kitchen to get them if he ever got a panic attack.
"Fuck!" He cursed loudly, throwing the contents of his desk onto the floor. Some of his paintbrushes scattered on the wooden floor of his studio, marking the wood various colors. Maybe they're going to stain, but he didn't really care.
Xiao heard the footsteps retreating until he couldn't hear anything else except the constant ringing in his ears. It was annoying. It was loud. It started to make him want to split his head open.
"_____," He whispered, feeling his chest hurt and his throat tighten. The passageways helping him breathe seemed to close themselves, giving him a hard time and mocking him. It was coming back again.
Tears started to flood his vision, and they rolled down his red cheeks. He took the ponytail out of his hair and used two hands to tug at his locks starting from the roots. His breathing patterns became more erratic, but he tried his best to stay calm.
His knees and legs felt like jelly. He had to lean against the desk to avoid from toppling over.
Why? Why again? Why now? Why when you were here?
He screamed. It was loud enough for the neighbors to hear, but his care for any external entities was out the window the moment his eyes became blurry with tears.
Even though he was leaning against the desk, his legs still couldn't hold the weight of his entire body. His knees dropped to the floor, and he swore he must've dented the wood below, but he paid no mind to it. His knees were also aching, but he could deal with that later. He bent down and pressed his forehead to the floor.
"_____," He whispered again, longing for his partner. "Auxilium."
"Xiao?" The voice was muffled. His eyes were glued to the floor in front of him, but he knew it was you.
"Xiao, stay with me, honey." There was a hint of panic evident in your voice, but he was glad that you didn't let that get the best of you. You was still somewhat calm.
You kneeled down beside him, helping him back to an upright position.
"Honey, you left these on the counter outside." You handed him two tablets of his anti-depressants, and he gladly placed them in his mouth. You also gave him a glass of water, and he downed it in two swift gulps. Afraid that he might underestimate his strength, he returned the glass back to you instead of setting it down himself, nodding at you in the process.
You got into a more comfortable position where you rested your back against the wall, and you guided Xiao to follow you. It was a difficult task; He was very sensitive during his panic attacks.
His semestral feedback reports always made him anxious. He didn't have to please his parents anymore since he moved out years ago, but Xiao had this nagging feeling inside of him to do better with his academics. Nobody was really pressuring him to be a straight-A student, but did he feel like he needed to be? Who was he trying to prove himself to anyway? You knew about his sever panic attacks and how they were more active if he had a big event coming up. The first time you had to deal with it, you were still stiff and trying to learn how you could help. Now, you takes pride in yourself for being able to handle him in the ways you know would help him the most.
"Here you go, I've got you." You cooed, assisting him with moving. You laid his head flat on her lap and she began stroking his beautiful, tousled forest green locks. The highlights he had under the first layer of his hair started to fade, and you made a mental note to take him to a salon so they could get their highlights redone.
"You know, I've been listening to a lot of Coldplay lately," You started speaking, as if Xiao wasn't about to have a full-on panic attack. "Yellow would have to be one of my favorite songs. I guess it's kinda cheesy, but can you blame me?"
You used your free hand to wipe the tears from his cheeks.
"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you." You began singing, voice just above a whisper.
"And everything you do. Yeah, they were all yellow."
Xiao was a reserved person who had a hard time dealing with other people because of his inferiority complex that sprouted when he was young.
"I came along, I wrote a song for you."
He didn't have love and affection growing up. He didn't know how to be the best person to talk to. He had poor communication skills. He was a mess, to be honest.
"And all the things you do. And it was called yellow."
You were the first person who looked past his rough and tough exterior. You were the person who showed interest not just in his name- but in him as a whole.
"So when I took my turn, what a thing to've done."
"Thank you," He murmured silently, noticing that the ringing in his ears vanished. His throat was beginning to open again, and he could finally feel the steady heartbeat he had in his chest.
"And it was all yellow."
Xiao curled himself into a ball, burying his face in your clothed stomach. You smelled a bit like smoke (maybe you ate yakiniku at Xiangling's?) and your faded cologne. It smelled like home. It washed a sense of relief over his entire being. He felt safe. He felt secure. He was being held like a child, but he didn't really mind. Maybe he needed this.
"Your skin. Oh yeah, your skin and bones,"
You craned your neck downwards to look at Xiao's figure. He finally looked peaceful. You knew about his rough past. You knew about the trauma he had to go through, but you chose to look past it because you knew that he was just afraid and... alone. He needed someone to be there for him, and you would rather the world die than leave him alone ever again.
"Turn into something beautiful."
You noticed how his chest started a rhythmic pattern of ups and downs. His breathing was finally steady. He looked at peace. He looked like he was right at home.
"Do you know? You know I love you so."
You couldn't help but chuckle as you watched him sleep in your lap. How could anyone think that this softie was an asshole?
"You know I love you so."
You barely whispered the last part of the song, but it was loud enough for his heart to hear it. Xiao hated when things were unpredictable; that's why he hated the rain. But now, maybe the idea of rain wasn't so bad. Especially since you were his rain.
"I love you, Xiao."
At that moment, you knew that the involuntary smile on Xiao's face was a response that contained more emotions than his words could ever bear.
"I love you too."

Chapter 9/17
Word Count: 2.8K
Genre: enemies to lovers, piano majors, series
Hyunjin x female reader ft. Stray Kids
You woke up with seven unread messages from Changbin.
<Y/N, I can’t believe it!>
<I got it! I got the role!>
<I’m officially casted as Phantom!>
<WOOT>
<Let’s go celebrate!>
<Are you still sleeping?>
<Y/N?>
You rubbed your eyes, unlocked your phone, and read over the messages. You then typed a quick response.
<Congrats, Bin! Sure, what kind of celebration?>
<It’s Friday, which means I don’t have class. I’m going to the arcade. Wanna join?>
<You know I’m not an arcade kinda person.>
<We’ll get food first and then you can go shop around while I’m gaming. How’s that?>
<Okay, I’ll meet you at the mall in about an hour.>
You dragged yourself out of bed towards the bathroom to get ready. There was no need to doll up since you were only meeting up with your best friend. Picking up your hairbrush to smooth out your tangled hair, you glanced over at your cosmetic kit that sat on the counter. Hm. Maybe just a little bit of natural makeup would not hurt.
Usually, you are the first person to arrive at a meet up spot, and a casual hangout with friends was no different. You were always early.
While waiting for Changbin to show up, you took the opportunity to wander around the mall. You looked through the window of each store, taking in the aesthetics and decorations. Various shades of pink and red have already made their appearance, in preparation for the upcoming Valentine’s Day. You could not believe that it was already February.
After one round on the first floor, you headed towards the food court. Changbin will be there soon.
<Where are you?> You sent a message.
<I’m walking towards it.> His reply was near instant.
<What do you want for food? I’ll order.>
<I’m feeling… a burger with a side of fries. And I’ll go save us a seat.>
It was not too long of a wait when your orders were ready. You managed to balance everything on one tray while you walked towards the seats.
“Y/N!” Changbin called out, waving to you.
Setting down the tray on the table, you took a seat across from him.
“Alright, so here’s your burger with a side of fries. I also got us drinks.” You said while handing him his order.
“Thanks.” He took a few fries and dropped them in his mouth. “What did you get for yourself?”
You took off the lid from the container.
“Good old pasta.” You said, allowing the aroma to fill your senses.
“It looks good.” Changbin commented while unwrapping his burger. “So yea, thanks for meeting up with me. You’re so busy these days we don’t even have the chance to hang out anymore.”
He took a bite.
“Great choice of burger by the way.” He said while chewing. “Want some?”
You could see the sauce spread across his lips and a little onto his cheek.
“I’m good, thanks.” You replied. “And uh, you have a little something on your face.”
“Sorry, I’m just hungry. Need food before I can talk.” He wiped the sauce away with a napkin. “About the roles, I received the information just this morning. A little surprised that it took them nearly two months to decide who will get the part. Still, I’m thankful that I’m casted as one of the main leads.”
You nodded, somewhat distracted as a wave of thoughts flooded your mind.
“Y/N? Did you hear what I said?”
Blinking twice, you snapped out of your daze and focused back on Changbin.
“Um, yea.” You smiled at him. “You got the part. Phantom. Congrats!”
Changbin gave you a look of concern.
“Y/N, you seem a little off recently. You actually look more distracted than you are busy to be honest. Did something happen?”
You chuckled.
“Nah.” You shook your head. “It’s just school stuff. There's too many incoming assignments that I have to get started on but I’m too lazy for anything and everything.”
“Right." Changbin replied, studying your face. "And you’ve also been hanging out with, what’s his name? Oh yea. Hwang Hyunjin. And a lot recently.” His eyes narrowed with suspicion.
You took a sip of your drink.
“Not that much. We just met up for the practices to hear each other play and then we carried on.”
“Mhmm. Totally.” Changbin was not convinced. “You know, I saw you walking with him the other day. You seemed rather…” He moved closer to you. “...cheerful to be around him. Before that, you couldn’t even stand the mention of his name.”
You jabbed around the plate with your fork as you collected your pasta.
“I have to tolerate him.” You answered, covering your mouth as you chewed.
“Y/N,” Changbin’s tone was firm. “I happened to pass by the area the other night and saw you two exiting the concert hall. It was as if the two of you went to see a show. Together.”
His emphasis on the word ‘together’ summoned a strange sense of guilt. In a way, you felt like you were caught amidst a decadence.
“Are you seeing him?”
You bursted into laughter, trying to disguise your true feelings.
“No bestie, I'm not seeing Hwang Hyunjin in any form or in any way. The concert was for an assignment in one of our performance courses.”
Changbin could hear the waver within your laugh, which was more than enough to confirm his speculations. Being your best friend, he could see right through you.
“Look, I’ve known you for so long, I don’t even have enough fingers to count through the number of years.” He gestured. “I can tell by the smallest signs that something's going on.”
Changbin’s thumb and forefinger went up to his chin as he tilted his head, deciphering your behaviour. A smirk slowly formed on his face.
“You're catching feelings, Y/N.”
His words pierced through you like an arrow. What your best friend said was true and there was no need to conceal how you felt anymore, with him at least.
“I just… don’t know how or when it happened.” You said with a faltering voice.
Changbin reached over to pat you on your shoulder.
“Hey, it’s alright. Falling in love isn't a crime, even if it’s with Hyunjin. Just don’t get hurt, yea?”
Changbin smiled, shook his head and finished the last bit of his lunch.
Leaving the food court, the two of you went to get ice cream for dessert.
“Still the same old strawberry flavour?”" He asked.
“Yup.” You answered. “It’s my favourite.”
Turning a few corners and up the escalators, you were then at the entrance of the arcade that Changbin had been so ecstatic about.
“I’m gonna be here for a while, so if you’re done shopping and need to go, you can head back first.” He took out his phone. “But before that, I'm gonna transfer the amount that I owe you.”
“The food’s on me, Bin.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yea.”
“Okay, I’ll get you food next time.”
“Sure. And, thanks for helping me realize things, Bin.”
“Don't worry about it. Just be careful, okay?” He sighed. “Guys like him are hard to figure out and they always have ulterior motives.”
“I’m aware, Bin. Congratulations for getting the role. You’ll do great.”
You pulled him in for a hug and gave a little squeeze. Changbin’s hugs are always comforting, just like the way ice cream soothes your soul.
“You better be there for the performance.” His tone was taunting.
“Of course. I wouldn't miss it for the world.”
You gave him a pat on the shoulder.
“Don’t have too much fun without me.”
And the two of you were off in your separate ways. You continued to wander through the mall, window shopping for the items you wished to have but could not afford.
Taking the escalator to the second floor, you were met with a particular display window that just so happened to catch your eye. It was beautifully decorated, featuring clothes of modern design and trend. The moment you saw the dress on the mannequin, you knew you had to get it.
You stepped into the store for a closer look.
“Where can I find that dress on your display?” You asked one of the staff.
“Oh, they’re right beside the dress shirts.” The lady answered.
“Great. Thank you!”
You walked over to the section to pick a size.
“It’s satin.” You said to yourself quietly. “And the indigo is really pretty.”
Holding the dress, you went to find a mirror to see how it would look on you.
“Good choice. Why don't you try it on?”
A familiar voice caught you off guard. It was the voice that you heard since the day of your first encounter. Over time, you became used to it and could easily recognize who it belonged to.
You turned around.
“Hyunjin, what are you doing here?” You asked.
He gave you a smile.
“Decided to pick up a few things for myself. Then I saw a familiar person walk into the store.” He answered.
“What did you get?”
“Just some stuff for formal events.”
“Well, let’s go try them on.” You said while walking to the fitting rooms.
The store was relatively busy, with only one fitting room available at the moment. Hyunjin decided to yield it to you.
Trying on dresses during the winter months was not one of your favourite things. Having to remove all the layers just for an article of clothing was not worth it. For that dress, maybe you could make an exception. You changed into it quickly.
Stepping out of the fitting room, you saw Hyunjin seated at a nearby bench, scrolling through his phone. You walked towards him.
If the scene were to be from a movie, it definitely featured a cinematic parallel of your first encounter. Hyunjin was seated, immersed in his activity as you stood before him. But this time, things were not quite the same as they were before.
“So, what do you think?” You asked nervously.
The way he brushed his hand through his hair brought you back to that very day of the encounter, right before your evaluation against him.
Hyunjin looked up from the sound of your voice. The moment his eyes landed on you, he was unable to look away. You had one hundred percent of his undivided attention.
But you misunderstood his reaction.
“Alright.” You sighed. “It’s ugly. I knew it. Shouldn’t have bothered to try it on.”
As you were turning back towards the fitting room, Hyunjin stood up.
“No.” His tone was firm. “Wear it.”
“So it’s not ugly?” You asked, unsure of what he meant.
Hyunjin took a step closer with his gaze fixed on you. The look he gave was similar to that of an unsatisfied hunger. His eyes darkened, as if he was desperately fighting back against something… instinctual? It sent shivers down your spine.
He leaned down with his warm breath fanning against your ear as he whispered.
“Not even close.”
Hyunjin took a step back to re-examine your appearance. His prior expression had disappeared and it was replaced by a smile.
“You should get it.” He said.
Reaching for the price tag, you turned it over to read the numbers. The sound from a sharp inhale of breath could be heard from the fitting room area as you gasped dramatically.
“I don't have this kind of money!” You whispered frantically. "I just spent a ton on books and this really isn't helping my bank account.”
You stepped into the fitting room and changed back into your clothes. Once outside, you swapped with Hyunjin and took a seat on the bench to wait for him.
The door to the fitting room opened and he stepped out in a full three piece suit. He brushed his hair away from his face before looking at you.
“How is it?” He asked, uncertain whether the clothes fit him well. His expression was the opposite of what you saw just moments ago.
Hyunjin’s appearance had your pulse quickening, mentally sending you to places you would never have otherwise visited. There was the unspeakable sense of an inner awakening, something that you refused to acknowledge.
“Um, Y/N?” He asked as he adjusted the sleeve cuffs.
His voice snapped you back to reality.
“You look great in the vest.” You smiled, giving him a thumbs up.
Rising from your seat, you walked up to him for a closer look at his tie. It was a deep shade of maroon that brought out his alluring and mystical side. Hwang Hyunjin had great taste in his choice of colours.
“Except if you can actually tie one properly.” You mumbled.
Reaching over, you pulled him closer by a quick tug on his tie. The sudden proximity made you feel slightly uneasy even though it was not the first time you were this close to him. It was another cinematic parallel, to that very day you met him when he backed you up against the wall just to provoke you.
“There we go. Much better.” You said, as you straightened the tie. “Jisung was like that too. I always had to help him with it until he left for school, and then he was on his own.”
“Who’s Jisung?” Hyunjin asked. He was curious, but there was a slight change in his tone that sounded rather… tense.
“My silly little brother.” You answered casually. “Now, he has someone in my place to help him with all this.”
You shook your head, recalling the image of a dishevelled Jisung and the mess around his neck that was once a tie.
“I see.” Hyunjin chuckled. “You two must get along well.”
His face seemed to relax after your statement that the Jisung person is only your younger sibling.
“We’re usually at war with each other so, not really.” You responded. “But he's still my baby brother. And as the big sister, I have to protect him. No one else can bully him but me.”
“I’m sure that he secretly watches out for his big sister too.” Hyunjin said.
“He better be.” You muttered under your breath.
The two of you stood there for a moment before Hyunjin broke the silence.
“Um, thanks for fixing the tie.” He said, looking down towards you. He then nodded to the dress on the rack that you tried on earlier. “Are you sure you’re not getting it?”
You shook your head.
“I’m so broke it’s not even funny.”
“Well, at least take a picture to remember.”
“Hyunjin, I already changed. Don’t make me go back and change again.”
“Whatever ‘suits’ you.” He signalled towards his outfit for emphasis.
You rolled your eyes.
“That was a terrible pun.”
Hyunjin laughed while slipping off his blazer. As he was about to return to the fitting room, a sales lady came up to you.
“Finding everything okay?” She asked.
“Yup. Everything’s fine.” You replied.
She took a look between you and Hyunjin and a smile formed on her face.
“You two look so cute together.” She said with admiration.
“Huh?” You asked, confused.
The sales lady handed you two slips of paper.
“Couples who shop here receive a thirty percent discount. It’s our Valentine’s Day promotion and you two are perfect for it.”
You looked back at Hyunjin and he gave you a nod.
“Thank you, miss.” He accepted the coupons. “We’ll put it into good use.”
***
Stepping out of the store with a bag in hand, you waved to Hyunjin.
“Thanks for playing along.” You said, feeling a little awkward.
“No probs. I can see how much you really like that dress.”
“I’ll definitely wear it.”
Hyunjin gave you a smile.
“I’m sure you will. See you later, Y/N.”
You walked back towards the arcade to see if Changbin was still there. Sure enough, he was in the middle of a game, tackling away. You tapped him on his shoulder.
“Hey, you’re having too much fun without me.” You said, pretending to be annoyed.
“Oh, you’re back. I thought you left already.” He said, turning his face in your direction, yet his eyes were glued to the screen in front of him.
“Back to see if you’re still here.”
“I’ll be done soon.”
“Yea, I’ll just wait here.”
You took a seat next to Changbin, placing the bag on the floor. Rustling from the packing paper caught his attention.
“Seems like you got stuff.” He said. “What’s in the bag?”
“Something for competition day.” You answered. “I need to make an impression.”

1986
Decided to look up some interesting events that took place in 1986 to see what they might reference.
I think people say this season will be taking place April-May 1986, so I won't look much into anything after that.
Thousands of people join hands in the desert near Phoenix, Arizona, May 25, 1986, as part of the Hands Across America campaign.
If you've seen Jordan Peele's movie US, this was referenced quite a lot. It was a fundraising event to fight poverty and hunger. I am a 90's kid so I don't know how significant this was for the country, but even my mom remembers it so maybe it was important. It might be a little too late to reference in the season though.
The crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger mission 51L. All seven members of the crew were killed when the shuttle exploded during launch on January 28, 1986.
The infamous Challenger disaster happened earlier that year... What a horrible tragedy. I know for sure someone like Will and Dustin would've been interested in that. Right? I wonder if they were watching when it happened. How scaring.
It's been like, 30 years since it happened. Do you think it's too soon to use in the plot of Stranger Things/sci-fi stories in general?
The televangelists Jim And Tammy Faye Bakker are shown talking to their television audience at their PTL Ministry in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
What a coincidence. I've been learning a lot about these two people lately. Firstly, Jim Bakker is an asshat. Secondly, Tammy Faye, despite all the scandals and misfortunes, was I think the first person to have an AIDS patient on her program for an interview. He wasn't allowed in the building, partially because he was recovering from surgery, but also everyone was afraid to even touch him. She was apparently very kind and advocated for LGBT people and other "misfits" in society.
If you're younger and don't know about it... back then, people thought (normal people not scientist) AIDS could be transmitted just by being in the same room as someone basically. It was new and everyone was terrified. It's basically the opposite of the COVID situation.
The government was completely ignoring the AIDS pandemic, even as thousands and thousands of people died. It wasn't "their problem" because at the time it seemed like only LGBT people were dying from it (that wasn't the case even though they were heavily affected by it. Like, massively). It was a terrible time.
Anyway, back to the point. Being religious, televangelist, all that stuff was EXTREMELY prevalent around this time. We joke about the Santanic Panic in hindsight, but it was real, ridiculous, and lead to all kind of injustices.
A masked demonstrator aims a slingshot at riot police behind fence during violent demonstration at the site of a nuclear waste reprocessing plant when about 10,000 demonstrators protested against the use of nuclear energy at Wackersdorf, West Germany, on May 19, 1986.
This is happening across the world, but an interesting situation. Chernobyl just happened like a month before this. I bet there were protests against nuclear energy all across the world. In a recent theory I kinda compared the Upside Down to what people thought would happen during the Cold War, a nuclear wasteland.
Several space probes fly-by Halley’s Comet in March of 1986.
Ah, another space related event. Once again, I feel like our nerds would've been paying attention to this maybe. It's relevance? I dunno. Maybe it dropped off an alien as it passed by.
The Soviet Union launches the core unit of the Mir Space Station into Earth’s orbit in February of 1986. Mir was the largest space station ever created at that point in time and between 1987 and 1996 five expansion modules were added to the core unit.
Interesting. ANOTHER space related event, this time to do with the Soviet Union. They launched a space station huh? Hm... I'm pretty sure the US and the Soviet Union were still in an arms race around now. But were US astronauts allowed to board the station? Let's find out!!!
.... searching ....
The answer appears to be yes, after some you know. Politics. But eventually science and curiosity brought them to an agreement. In the 90's.
========================
That's about it! I mean, a crap ton of other political stuff is happening around the world at this time, but I'm not gonna get into that mess.

Tumblr media
The months and seasons have passed for Mobius and Loki.
Mobius moved out of the house on the cliff and into an apartment above the store. After Ravonna's death, Casey saw no reason to stay in TK and joined Mobius at Miss Minutes.
With his client base expanding, Mobius needed someone to help him and thought of Casey, who had been more than enthusiastic at the idea.
They had formed a curious friendship with Sylvie and life was flowing smoothly.
Casey could see that at times Mobius' eyes seemed lost. His face wore a melancholic expression. But Mobius said nothing, smiled and Casey pretended he hadn't seen anything.
On New Year's Eve 2022, Mobius, Casey and Sylvie were celebrating together and as the fireworks started, Mobius couldn't help but think of other fireworks with nostalgia and wondered what Loki was doing, where and with whom.
January 2021 - Miss Minutes
It was already late and Mobius was hunched over his drawing table, looking focused as Casey poked his head through the door.
"Mobius, I'm going in. I've got it all locked up, you'll just have to close the main door and the blind."
Mobius focused, simply replied, "Hm..."
Casey, seeing that he hadn't been listening, approached and looked over Mobius' shoulder at what he was working on.
"A new project?"
Mobius looked up, a little embarrassed, "Oh. No. It's just... a personal thing."
Casey shifted to get a better look at Mobius' work.
Mobius tried to hide it.
"Mobius, let me see."
"No, it's nothing."
"Come on."
Mobius gave in and Casey's eyes widened at the drawing.
It was the house on the cliff but re-imagined. There was a terrace that ran along the back, and stairs that went down to the water - the stairs that Mobius had described to Loki. There were trees planted along the way, and lights shining in the trees. The house was just as extraordinary as before, but much less austere, much warmer, almost romantic.
Casey said softly, "I like it."
Mobius asked casually, "Do you like it?"
Casey nodded enthusiastically, "Before, it looked like a place you would go to be alone. In this one, I can imagine taking someone there."
Mobius nodded. Casey looked at him with his piercing eyes, and asked softly, "Who is he?"
Mobius answered without hesitation, "Loki. His name was Loki."
"When you lived there?"
Mobius nodded and Casey continued, "I knew it, that there was something or rather someone. What happened?"
Mobius replied simply, "I lost him."
"How?"
Mobius replied with a hesitant voice, "It's hard to explain. It's mostly... it was... bad timing."
"You miss him?"
Mobius couldn't deny it and Casey insisted, "Make him come back."
Mobius ran a hand over his face, "It's too late. Or too soon..."
"What?"
Mobius shook his head, "Nothing. I don't even know where he is. And even if I did, I couldn't walk up to him and say, ``Hey, I'm here, let's pick up where we left off."
Casey defiantly asked him, "What would you have to lose?"
Mobius didn't answer.

Loki was still living in the same place and the tree had continued to grow in front of the building.
He spent a lot of time with Thor, who had apparently decided to take him under his wing.
He was alone, but he had a friend, friends even, that he could count on, and if sometimes one or the other tried to encourage him to date someone, they never insisted.
He devoted his life to his classes, the students liked him a lot, and Kamala who kept coming to see him after class had brought other members of the gang with her, and the discussions around Norse mythology had turned into a reading club.
Early February 2023 - Loki's apartment
Loki had decided to clean up, because in two years, he was starting to pile up things, and it was time to sort out.
He was organizing his clothes when he came across the outfit he had never put back on since the missed date. His throat tightened as he was about to put it in the pile of clothes to be thrown away, but he couldn't bring himself to do it and put it in the back of the closet.
Later, as he was vacuuming, he noticed a creaky floorboard. He bent down to examine it and found that it could be lifted quite easily.
Loki pulled the floorboard and to his surprise, there was an empty space underneath. He bent further to examine it. He saw that there was something there, put his hand to grab it and pulled out a package wrapped in dusty plastic. He opened it. His heart leapt out of his chest, it was his copy of PERSUASION.
One page was marked with a rose, now dried and withered by time. He opened it to the marked page and saw that a sentence had been underlined.
There could have been no two hearts so open,
no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison.
He stared at the words, breathless.
February 14, 2023 - September Academy
Thor and Loki, along with the other teachers, were sitting in the school's conference room waiting for the presentation to begin.
Thor leaned over to Loki, "Hey, since Jane won't be able to spend this Valentine's Day with me, how about a hallmark movie night with some popcorn and good beer?"
Loki smiled softly, "Sounds good to me, but in the meantime we've gotta get through this presentation."
Just after his words, a short dark-haired man entered the room and took his place on the stage, greeted by Natasha who spoke up, "Hello everyone, thank you for coming. We are pleased to welcome Casey Fish, from Miss Minutes."
Loki startled slightly, the name ringing a bell.
"Casey is here today to introduce us to a new line of electronic organizers for students and teachers, allowing for better communication between the various parties. Thank you for giving him your attention."
Casey cleared his throat and began to speak, "Hello everyone! Thank you for your welcome Ms. Romanov, Miss Minutes is basically a small watch store, but over the years we wanted to expand its business to include time management in all its forms, and its founder had the idea a little over two years ago to create this."
He pointed to the screen that just displayed a small rectangular device, much like a flip phone.
"Let me introduce you to The Tempad. The Tempad, thanks to its small holographic avatar, allows you to be connected at any time with your colleagues, with your students."
He clicked on the remote control to bring up the next image.
"This is Miss Minutes for you."
Loki gasped, of course he knew Miss Minutes, it was exactly like the little picture Mobius had drawn when he had written to him about his store.
Thor, sensing his friend's confusion, leaned toward him and whispered, "Loki? Are you okay?"
Loki nodded.
He listened to the rest of the presentation in a daze, and as Casey was packing up his things on the stage, Loki rushed in without further ado, almost shoving some of his colleagues in his way.
February 14, 2021 - In front of Miss Minutes
Casey and Mobius came out in their winter coats, but they realized it was surprisingly warm.
Mobius growled, "Honestly, what the hell?"
Casey shrugged as he replied, "Global warming."
Mobius asked Casey, "Do you want to come to my house for dinner tonight?"
Casey replied with a small air of pride, "I can't. I have a date tonight, it's Valentine's Day."
Mobius continued forward for a few steps, then stopped.
"What?"
"What, is it so weird that I have a date on Valentine's Day night?"
Mobius looked around. The day was really hot. People everywhere were enjoying the sun. He turned to Casey, a strange look on his face.
"What's the date?"
"Valentine's Day I told you, so it's February 14."
Mobius repeated, "February 14, 2021."
Casey looked at him, curious, "Yeah. What's up with you?"
Mobius with pensive eyes replied, "He told me about today."
"Who? You mean the guy?"
"Yes!" replied Mobius excitedly, "There's a letter that says where he's going to be!"
Casey understood less and less, "He wrote you?"
Mobius nodded quickly, "Yes. I could see him today. You said it the other day...what have I got to lose?"
Casey replied matter-of-factly, "What are you waiting for?"
"I just need to find the letter!"
Mobius ran to his apartment above the store, rummaged through his old boxes, until he remembered that Loki's letters were still in the house on the cliff, in the attic. He looked for the spare keys to the housel, ran to his old pickup and drove off at full speed.
February 14, 2023 - September High-school
" Mister, uh... Casey, can I ask you something. Miss Minutes' founder, who is it?"
Casey, with a surprised look, answered him, clearing his throat, "He's a friend, Mo... Mobius M. Mobius."
Loki repeated, his heart pounding, "Mobius..."
Casey replied, "Yes. Do you... do you know him?"
Loki nodded, "Yes. He... where is he? Could you tell me how I could contact him?"
Casey suddenly looked very sad, "I'm sorry. You don't know?"
"What?"
Casey replied with a tight throat, "He died. Two years ago." He swallowed before resuming, "Two years ago today, in fact, there was an accident..."
Loki, shocked, gasped, then whispered, "Where?"
A few seconds later, Loki ran out of the school and headed for his car under the rain that had started to fall. Thor was behind him, bewildered, and called him, "Loki! Wait! What's going on?"
As he continued to run, Loki told him, 'It's an emergency! I don't have time!"
Thor asked, "Is that him?"
Loki, while running, replied, "Yes!" and heard Thor shout back at him as he climbed into his car, "Go Loki! Get him!"
Loki drove out of the city toward the house, rain pouring down on his windshield. He weaved between lanes, passing cars, driving recklessly, as fast as he could.
House on the cliff - February 14, 2021
Mobius stopped in front of the lake house. It was closed, empty. He ran across the path and unlocked the front door.
House on the cliff - February 14, 2023
Loki arrived at the house and stopped skidding in the rain in front of the mailbox. He pulled out a notepad and began to write, desperately.
House on the cliff - February 14, 2021
Mobius ran to the attic. Inside was the only box he had stored there when he moved out. He opened the box and searched frantically. He found the bundle of letters from Loki. After a few moments, he found the one he was looking for and read it.
Last February, I remember it was Valentine's Day, but it was really hot for a day in February.
I was at the fountain in Valhalheim Square.
He said aloud, "The Valhalheim Square Fountain."
House on the cliff - February 14, 2023
Loki finished writing the note and jumped out of the car. He put it in the mailbox and raised the flag.
He stayed there, and fell to his knees in front of the box, soaked by the rain.
House on the cliff - February 14, 2021
Mobius jumped into his pick-up , and quickly drove away from the house. He passed the mailbox.
Valhalheim Square - February 14, 2021
Loki closed his eyes for a moment, letting the sunlight warm him. Just aware of the surrounding sounds, the water in the fountain, the splashing and laughter of children playing in it, an old man grumbling about global warming, pigeons landing nearby.
Mobius could see the fountain from inside his pickup. He looked for a parking spot, finally found one and jumped out. He started running towards the square.
In his hand he clutched a piece of paper, the words of which echoed in his head.
Dear Mobius.
I know it now... it was you at the fountain that day.
It was you on the square. Please, don't go there.
Something terrible will happen if you go there.
Mobius continued to run toward the fountain.
He stopped at the curb, separated from the fountain by a dense road full of traffic. He looked away, searching for Loki beyond the noisy traffic, among the crowd in the park.
Please don't look for me.
He finally saw him, a distant figure, eyes closed, enjoying the warmth of the sun. He smiled.
Don't try to find me.
They are now only separated by distance.
Don't run to me.
The traffic became less dense and Mobius had a clear view of Loki, straight ahead.
Do you understand? Please. You must wait.
Mobius stepped off the curb, wanting to get closer to Loki.
Forget everything I said before.
We both have to wait.
If you love me and if I love you.
I love you, it's taken me this long to say it but I really love you, so wait for me.
Mobius saw Loki open his eyes, as if drawn in his direction. He looks alarmed.
Wait with me. Wait until time catches up with both of us and we can be together. Please. Just... wait.
House on the cliff - February 14, 2023
Loki soaked, was in tears at the foot of the mailbox and only whispered, "Wait, wait..." and continued to cry.
The rain continues to fall.
Loki, finally, having lost all hope, tried to pull himself together and began, very slowly, to get to his feet.
He looked at the box and gasped, the flag was down.
With trembling hands, he did not dare to open the door and when he did, he saw that his letter was gone.
Valhalheim Square - February 14, 2021
Mobius was standing on the road, straining to see Loki and at the last second, he backed up to the sidewalk, safe. He continued to watch Loki, he desperately wanted to run to him, but he didn't, he folded the letter, put it in his pocket and reluctantly turned and walked away.
House on the cliff - February 14, 2023
Loki looked at the empty mailbox, his face soaked with tears and rain.
A hand came up from behind him and gently closed the box. He slowly turned around.
Mobius stood silently and looked at him, holding the worn letter Loki had just posted. Loki stared at him for a moment, trying to convince himself that this was real. Then Mobius took a step toward Loki and smiled, shyly.
"Have we waited long enough?"
Loki, still shocked, his eyes filled with tears, whispered, "Yes."
Mobius approached again, and smiling more openly this time, brought his hand to Loki's face and wiped a tear with his thumb.Loki rested his head in his palm and then finally they fell into each other's arms, squeezing each other, inhaling each other's scent, prolonging the embrace again and again, making sure it was real. Making sure that each of them was real.
Then Mobius finally pulled back and captured Loki's lips in an endless kiss. For long minutes they separated only to catch their breath before kissing again, over and over again, indifferent to the rain that fell around them.
Much later, they separated to catch their breath and Mobius took Loki's hand to lead him home.
Loki gasped. The house on the cliff had changed.
In the two years of Mobius' life, the life Loki had saved, Mobius had transformed it.
He had brought to life the design he had shown Casey two years ago, with the deck, and the stairway to the water they had talked about, and the trees planted along the path, lit and glowing in the rain.
Loki laughed, astonished, and turning to Mobius he took his face in his hands and kissed him again.
Then they walked together along the path, stopping often to touch and kiss.
As they passed the door, Loki held Mobius by the sleeve, "Wait."
Mobius turned around and couldn't help but touch Loki's face with his fingertips once more.
Loki grabbed his hand and interlaced his fingers with Mobius' as he said softly, "I don't want to wait to tell you for real this time." He paused and with a trembling smile and bright eyes, he told him, "I love you."
Mobius didn't want to wait to tell him in turn either, "I love you."
They hugged each other tightly again, tasting the happiness of hearing those words spoken by the beloved voice.
Then much later, they entered their home, ready to start a new life where everything was still to be discovered. Together.

The house on the cliff - Summer 2024
"Cwoki! Cwoki!"
"Lila! Go slowly honey and wait for your little brother!"
"Wait my love, I'll help you." Clint came to support Laura who was struggling up on the small path leading to the house on the hill. She huffed a little, laying her hand on her belly rounded by her 6 months of pregnancy.
They watched, fondly, as their two children gave gentle pats to a Croki who seemed to enjoy it.
"Lila, Cooper, stop spoiling Croki, he'll keep coming to us for petting afterwards."
Both children stood up and grabbed onto the legs of the man who had just spoken.
"Uncle Mobius!"
He picked them both up, carrying them each in one arm.
"What about me, don't I get a hello kiss?"
Each of the two children placed a sounding kiss on Mobius' cheeks at the same time.
"Should I be jealous?" a voice behind Mobius spoke up.
"Uncle Loki!"
Cooper was already reaching out to Loki, who didn't hesitate. The little boy gave him a big kiss on the cheek and wiggled to be put back on the ground.
Loki and Mobius, side by side, welcomed Laura and Clint.
"Clint, Laura, Welcome!"
They all embraced and then headed to the terrace.
Loki guided Laura to a comfortable chair, stuffed with cushions for her. She sat down with a sigh, "Thank you." then looking around, she continued, "I may have been here many times before, but I'll never tire of this view."
Mobius motioned for Clint to sit next to Laura, before taking a seat as well.
Loki was about to sit down when he heard the unmistakable sound of a car pulling up in front of the house, Mobius started to get up, but Loki motioned for him to stay seated. "Stay seated, love, I'll welcome them."
He walked down the path toward the cars that had just arrived.
Thor was the first to walk over to him, "Loki! My friend!" before hugging him. Loki was now used to Thor's overflowing affection and allowed himself to be patted on the back.
Soon Heimdall, Bruce, Carol and Natasha joined them and followed his lead into the house. When they arrived on the terrace, everyone greeted each other, and sat around the table chatting happily. Lila was in awe of Natasha's red curls, and Cooper laughed out loud as Thor spun him around at arm's length.
"Is this the direction for the little party?"
Heads turned to the source of the voice as Mobius exclaimed, "Casey, we weren't expecting you anymore!"
Casey laughed lightly and added, "Where do I put this?" he pointed to the cake in his hands.
"I'll take it." replied Loki. He took the cake into the kitchen and there he felt suddenly overwhelmed by emotion. He waited for a while before returning to the terrace.
"Hey handsome, what are you doing here alone?"
Loki looked up and smiled, "Mobius."
Mobius, who after more than a year had learned to decipher Loki's expressions, noticed that something was wrong.
"Loki, sweetheart, what's going on with you."
Loki wanted to start talking, but the emotion was too strong,
"Hey, come here." Mobius took him in his arms and gently stroked his back, waiting for the worst of the crisis to pass.
After a few moments, Loki straightened up, a trembling smile beneath the tears, "I'm sorry, I don't know, I'm not sad, not at all, on the contrary, but I suddenly had this irrepressible urge to cry."
Mobius nodded, pushed a strand of Loki's hair back behind his ear.
"Just too much emotion maybe? What were you thinking?"
"I... I was putting the cake on the table and I thought, if you hadn't read my letter, none of this would be real. I wouldn't be here. There wouldn't be all these people on our deck. And it freaked me out for just a short moment, to realize that I almost lost everything."
Mobius, also visibly moved, pressed a tender kiss on Loki's mouth and said softly, "But on the contrary, you have, we have gained everything. You saved me, gave me a new life, and in doing so you gave us all a different and more beautiful life."
Loki nodded his head, then shook it as if to collect himself.
He kissed Mobius tenderly in turn, then stepped aside and grabbed Mobius' hand and pulled him toward the terrace, a confident smile on his lips.
"Come on, let's go celebrate!"
As Mobius let himself be pulled along and they walked through the living room, his gaze fell on Ravonna's book. His first family. His sister. Then his gaze slid to Loki in front of him and by extension everyone else on the terrace. Their new family. Not by blood, but by heart. All because one day, Loki had posted a little letter.
Dear new tenant.
Hello and welcome to your new home and congratulations, blah blah blah. You have made an excellent choice, New Asgard is a wonderful place and this house is a gem, as you may have already noticed.
I'm sure you'll love living here as much as I do.
Loki had not known that these words would be so prescient, even though they came from the future and were addressed to someone from the past.
Oh yes, Mobius loved living here, but not because of the house, because of the love that filled it. Because of Loki.
Together. For All time. Always.

The Lovestruck~Chapter 23
Tumblr media
(20 February)
8:36 pm
You let out a sigh staring at the view infront of you while sitting on the bench. You had came to your usual place to distract your mind from your thoughts but that didn't seemed to be working.
As you were home after leaving the Café, you started to study as your exams were coming up. However, you couldn't as you felt unmotivated which led you to have several thoughts in mind and they didn't help but demotivated even more.
Wanted to take a walk, you ended up here and at that moment, you got a call from Baekhyun. You tried to sound as fine as you could but as if you were too transparent to him and he instantly understood something was wrong.
Lost in your thoughts, you didn't even hear footsteps from behind until a figure appeared infront of you making you startle. Your eyes looked up only to be locked with familiar soft brown orbs staring at you concern yet warmly.
You stayed still, with his eyes boring into yours making you melt and your heart to welled up. You felt a lump in your throat and instantly gulped before looking down.
You sighed licking your lips and looked up. "I know this is sudden...but...can I hug you?"
His palm went to your cheek caressing it with his thumb as he gave you a soft smile. "You don't have to ask."
You nodded before wrapping your arms around his waist with your face in his stomach and his hand stroking your hair softly making your eyes close and tears streamed down your cheeks.
That was it. You needed a hug. His hug. His warmth. Him. Your favorite person and now your safe place.
Minutes of you weeping and sniffing, you both were sitting beside eachother with Baekhyun's arm draped behind you on the bench with his hand caressing gently on your shoulder.
Baekhyun took a glance at you as you sniffed wiping your remaining tears with your hoodie sleeves. He couldn't help but smile at your red nose and cheeks finding it adorable.
"Feeling better?"
You nodded as you actually felt light after letting it all out.
"Wanna share it?" He asked cautiously and you nodded before taking a deep breath.
"I.. I feel weird. I feel so unmotivated, I have so many assignments to do and exams coming up but I can't bring myself to study and that just left me stressed. What if I fail?"
You felt his hand rubbing your arm as he instantly pulled you close. "Hey, Hey, it's okay. We all have those days, sometimes we get tired and just need a break. So, don't let your thoughts take over your peaceful mind, you are strong enough to pass those days."
"You think so?"
"I know so." He kissed your temple making you smile before looking at him.
"Thank you."
He gave a nod. "Yeah sure, but next time don't bottle it up. Whenever you are struggling or feeling down, you can share it with me, I'm always here."
You stared at him in awe, wondering how did you got this lucky to have him.
Smiling, you nodded. "I know."
"Good." He kissed your nose making you laugh before leaning his forehead against yours and you both closed your eyes enjoying the calm yet comfortable silence.
All of a sudden, your stomach growled making you both flinch and you gasped leaning away before biting your lips as you looked down clutching your stomach.
Baekhyun, who just got out of the shock instantly bit his lower lip grinning at your embarrassed state before standing up.
"Let's go." He held out his hand and you pouted but eventually grabbed it as he made you stand up and led you to his car while trying hard not laugh.
He took you to a restaurant close to your house and you couldn't even wait to full your stomach as the smell of dishes making you more hungry.
As your noodles were served, you instantly began to dig and slurp while Baekhyun kept taking a glance at you worringly.
You were too imersed in eating and didn't realize his lovingly stare on you. He palmed his cheek as he stared at you before chuckling and got your attention.
"What?" You raised your eyebrows questionly while munching.
"I can't believe, you were crying a while ago and now..." He stopped as he nodded your way and you rolled you eyes. "I wasn't crying, okay!"
"Yeah, sure. And you didn't hug me earlier too." He spoke nonchalantly before slurping and you blushed remembering that scene before clearing your throat while stirring the soup as something crossed your mind.
"Ah, my parents want to meet you." You said and he choked on his food.
You passed him the glass of water and he gulped it down while you rubbed his back before biting your lips to suppress your laugh.
"You sure are a killjoy." He wiped his mouth glaring at you playfully and you shrugged smiling.
It's been more than a month to your relationship and with you being all smiley and cheery made your parents too desperate to meet him and Daniel's nonstop praises to Baekhyun weren't helping either.
"It's not my fault, if Dan likes you so much." You crossed your arms. "He's always praising you and only listens to you and sometimes I get jealous too."
He chuckled. "Don't be, I'm all yours anyway."
You rolled your eyes. "Don't twist my words."
"When should I meet them? Your parents?" He asked nervously.
"How about right now?"
"Right now?!"
You laughed. "Chill, I was joking."
He squinted his eyes. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
You giggled nodding. "Yes, it's so rare to see you like this."
He huffed. "Let's talk when it's your time."
Soon, you went back to home with Baekhyun as he stopped his car infront of your porch. He got out of the car with you and walked towards you before leaning his back against the car while taking your hand.
"Listen, don't think about anything. Take a warm shower and go to sleep early so you can feel better, hm?" He poked your cheek softly and you chuckled nodding.
"Okay, Ajjusshi."
"Yah!"
"What? You think only you can tease me?"
He pouted before nodding. "Okay, then, I won't bring that up and you do the same, hm?"
"Fair enough." You nodded. "Now go before you have to deal with my mum."
He chuckled pinching your nose causing you scrunch your nose and he imitated your expression before walking to the driving seat but you stopped him.
He looked at you confusingly before you tiptoed grabbing his nap to pull him down and kissed his cheek. "Drive safely, Ajjusshi."
You made a face before giggling and sprinted towards your home leaving the stunned Baekhyun behind. As soon as he recovered, his hand went to cheek and he chuckled shaking his head.
"Gosh, I love her!"
***
(21st February)
1:23 pm
Next day, you and Ria went to a restaurant close to your college as you decided to eat outside making your bestfriend confused as ever, since it was the first time you asked to go out.
"Y/n, tell me seriously?" Ria questioned crossing her arms as she eyed you suspiciously and you gave a shrug avoiding her gaze.
"What? I just wanted to eat outside. Is it that hard to believe?" You took a sip from your orange juice before giving her a smile.
She scoffed. "Yes."
You clicked your tongue rolling your eyes before you got a weird feeling and instantly threw your head back to see Baekhyun's face, looking down at you.
"Oh? How did you know I was here?" He asked surprised and you shrugged before he pecked your temple and took a seat beside you.
Ria watched the scene smilingly before her gaze went behind you to see Chanyeol coming towards the table. She suddenly felt nervous as he took a seat beside her before smiling at her.
You and Baekhyun exchanged looks with each other before ordering and getting imersed in the conversation. While between the talks, Baekhyun kept taking a sip from your orange juice and when you offered him to drink it all, he refused but then continued to take sips.
As you all finished your meal, Baekhyun excused himself to the washroom and you continued your conversation with them. You also took the chance to observe the pair infront of you who seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Baekhyun walked out but stopped when he spotted a guy other side of your table, scribbling something and gave it to the waiter before pointing towards you.
His blood boiled and he walked faster to the waiter and stopped him before taking a look at the paper. He scoffed lowly reading it as the guy was asking your number.
Taking the pen from the waiter, he scribbled something down the paper before pointing it to give back to the guy.
The guy was imersed in his phone to notice until the waiter gave him the paper back and he expectantly opened the paper only to get confused.
She is taken
He looked towards your table to see you with Baekhyun who instantly locked eyes with him and shot a intimated gaze at him causing him to look away awkwardly.
"Shall we leave?" Baekhyun asked you and you nodded before standing up and Ria looked at you both confusingly.
"What? Where are you going?"
"We have to be at Café, so we're leaving." Baekhyun said wrapping his arm around your waist. "Chanyeol will drop you off."
You controlled your laugh at seeing Ria's expression but you wanted to do this as Chanyeol and Ria needed to have a talk. Hence, you and Baekhyun decided to be cupids for them.
"Yeah, i'll drop you off." Chanyeol smiled at her before sending a smirk towards Baekhyun which got unnoticed by you as your eyes were on your bestfriend.
You waved at them as you exited the restaurant not before Baekhyun throwing a glance to the guy who awkwardly coughed before looking away.
"Are they going to be okay?" You asked him as soon as you were out.
"Don't worry, Chanyeol's gonna take care of it and your bestfriend is in safe hands." He gave you a assuring smile which you returned but then felt his stare.
"What?"
"You must have got confessions a lot and crushes too."
"Huh? Suddenly?" You frowned. "Well, not really because back then I was too naive to notice and about crushes..."
"I know, that Big Boss and Siwon, whatever his name was." He rolled his eyes and you chuckled at his adorable jealously.
"If we're talking about crushes," You crossed your arms over your chest. "Then I do remember Chanyeol Sunbae telling me about your high school crush."
"Oh.. That..." He rubbed his nap before smiling sheepishly."It was just a tiny bit crush, nothing serious."
You nodded giving him the exact smile and he chuckled. "Okay, we have to go."
"Come on! Coffee bean, let's go!" Baekhyun stretched out his hand for you and you squinted your eyes before grasping it.
"Stop calling me that!"
He laughed locking his arm around your neck to pull you by his side. "Why? It suits you."
You groaned rolling your eyes and started walking with him before his eyes stopped at a Café and a sigh left his lips making you look at him.
"Graduation is approaching and I will have to officially start my work and maybe stop working in the Café." He leaned the side of head over yours. "But I will miss you."
You bit your lip thinking about the days without him at the Café. Sensing your silence, he lifted his head up to see the expression which he never want to see.
"Don't be sad." He tilted his head and you looked into his eyes. "We will see eachother and think about it, if I don't work how will we feed our little beans, hm?"
Your brows knitted in confusion but then your eyes widened and you immediately slapped his chest playfully but he caught your hand and laughed.
"Wait, who said I'll marry you?" You raised your brows looking at him with smug expression.
He let out a dramatic gasp. "I didn't know you were that bold to have kids withoutmm-"
You cupped his mouth giving him a glare which he seemed unfazed about before you felt his lips kissing your palm bringing heat to your face and you instantly pulled your hand away.
"You're such a pervert!"
"Umm." He nodded. "Your pervert. And you're stuck with this pervert forever. So deal with it."
You walked back to your college with your thoughts about him leaving. And you already started missing him.
Meanwhile at the restaurant, two people were now sitting in an awkward silence until Chanyeol chuckled.
"You don't have to feel stiff around me, you know?" He smiled at Ria which made her relaxed.
"I know you are confused about this but actually I asked them to give us a space so I could say what I wanted to say." He said rubbing his thighs nervously.
Ria licked her lips nervously with her heart beating fast than ever. "What do you want to say?"
"I won't beat around the bush." He cleared his throat before taking a deep breath. "Would you like to be my girlfriend?"
Ria choked on her saliva at his straightforward question causing her to blush and Chanyeol chuckled. "Did I surprise you?"
She smiled shyly nodding as they both exchanged a loving eye contact and that was a new start of their journey.

8:01 pm
"Y/n, take the big Cart."
You heard your mom saying when you were shoving your car keys in your pocket and frowned but nodded as you grabbed the trolley before walking further into the store.
You were here with your mom at the grocery store to shop as the minute she heard about Baekhyun coming tomorrow to meet them, she started her preparation while you just mentally shook your head.
"Mum, why are you so excited for?" You questioned as you both stopped by a vegetable section.
"Why wouldn't I be? My one and only daughter who was never interested having any boyfriend, got a boyfriend for herself and you want me to just sit still?"
She gave you a duh face and you gave her a poker face before rolling your eyes. Well, she wasn't wrong though.
"Let's not buy too much cucumbers, just for our face masks."
"Why? I'm gonna make salad tho."
"Yeah, but no cucumbers because Baekhyun doesn't eat cucumber." You picked few cucumbers and put them in the trolley. "And not too spicy food."
You looked at her to see her smiling at you causing you raise your eyebrows confusingly. "Why?"
"My daughter just sounded like a wife material and this is such a miracle." She exaggerated dramatically and you blushed at the wife word but then shook your head.
"I'm gonna check that section." You said walking away and she laughed giving you a light slap on the arm causing you wince slightly.
It wasn't hard slap but you were already slapped hard by your bestfriend after knowing about your little cupid plan about her but at the same time, you were happy to know that your plan did work as she has started dating Chanyeol.
You walked to the opposite direction and looked for some chocolates before unconsciously glancing over to the side to see an elder woman walking speedily with her trolley only to get bumped into a lady's trolley.
The lady flinched and looked at her surprised before making a distance between them. The elderly lady looked at her furiously.
"Can't you make space for others to pass by?"
Rude. Instead of apologizing, she's blaming her.
The lady scoffed. "Excuse me? I'm standing at the right side, you were the one passing by without looking anywhere."
"Now, you are blaming me? Instead of apologizing?" She spoke loudly getting the attention of the other people.
You scoffed rolling your eyes and getting fed up with her behavior and decided to jump in.
"Excuse me? Ma'am." You spoke and their head snapped towards you before giving the rude lady your tight polite smile. "I think you should just apologize."
"Listen young lady, this is not your concern so just leave."
"I think it is my concern since i have seen everthing." You snapped at her with a calm voice and her face dropped but then she instantly smirked. "Who's going to believe you?"
"They don't have to but they'll believe that CCTV over there." You pointed at the Camera witnessing the scene before looking back at her with a sarcastic smile. "Should we check that?"
The rude lady scoffed before blinking and tried to turn away but you instantly stopped her. "Aren't you going apologize?"
She shot you a glare and you looked at her unfazed before she looked at the lady. "Sorry."
With that she walked away and people also went their way.
"Such a strange lady." You and the other lady said in unison and looked at eachother amazed before smiling.
"Thank you, young lady." She smiled at you and you returned it. "No worries, ma'am."
"Y/n!" You heard your mom behind and saw her coming towards you before she stared at you and the lady. "Did you cause trouble again?"
You gave her a seriously face and the lady standing with you chuckled before looking at your mom. "No no, she actually helped me. You have such a nice daughter."
You blushed but smiled and your mom nodded towards her before she asked something you weren't expecting her to.
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Eh?"
She chuckled. "Ah sorry. I just wanted to know generally."
You mom smiled. "Yes, she has a boyfriend and we're meeting him tomorrow."
You looked at your mom weirdly as she just started talking freely with her and the lady nodded before you both bid goodbye to her.
The lady sighed. "Ah, what a lucky guy would he be to have her as a girlfriend. Wish my Hyun also can get a girlfriend like her."
She turned around to walk away from there and met Kyungsoo who was helping her with somethings before exiting the store.
You went home and got a surprise to see Jae sitting on the couch with Daniel and your dad. Apparently, his training was over and now he's going to join dad's business which means goodbye to Scotland.
You were happy to know this because after Ria, Jae was the person whom you could talk about your feelings freely and he was the first one to know about your relationship too.
Indeed it was a surprise, a good one but little did you know, that another surprise was waiting for you.
***
Coming inside to his Baekhyun's share apartment, Mrs Byun saw him and his friends playing with his nephew and niece. She walked in the kitchen with Kyungsoo helping her putting the bags on the counter with Jongdae and Minseok and joined them.
Baekhyun walked inside the with his niece in his arms and made her sit on the counter before giving her a strawberry which they just bought before taking a bite of it too.
"You called me earlier saying you are done but you are coming now?" Minseok questioned putting the vegetables in the fridge and Kyungsoo sighed.
"Don't even ask." Mrs Byun started as she began to make some tea. "There was this rude lady who started arguing with me out of nowhere."
Baekhyun's ears perked up upon hearing this. "What? Why? What did you do then?"
"Of course I didn't back away but then a young girl helped me." She smiled. "She was such a smart girl but she had a boyfriend."
Baekhyun shook his head. "Eomma, you really need to stop this plus I have a girlfriend already."
Mrs Byun's eyes widened. "What?!"
Baekhyun nodded nonchalantly. "Umm and i'm meeting her parents tomorrow."
Baekhyun's nephew who was in Chanyeol's arms almost slipped from his embrace hearing that but instantly tightened his grip on him.
"Yah! Aren't you going too fast?"
"What are you talking about? It's just a casual meeting since they want to meet me." He told them and talking about it just made him nervous suddenly.
"You have a girlfriend yet you didn't tell us?" Mrs Byun asked him.
"I told you."
"When?"
"Just now."
He smiled playfully and winced in pain when Mrs Byun pulled his ear hardly causing the kids to giggle cutely at the sight while Boys showed no reaction and continued their task as it wasn't something new to witness.
"Whatever, let's have dinner but i want details later." She demanded and Baekhyun nodded rubbing his ear which turned red as his strawberry in his hand which he ate it immediately.
As everyone walked out of the kitchen leaving Kyungsoo and Mrs Byun inside, Baekhyun got stopped by the Boys snickers and shot them a confuse look.
"Hyung, you have to do well tomorrow." Sehun spoke. "If not, forget Junior Y/n forever."
Baekhyun scoffed. "You think i'll be scared of that? I'll be fine."
They all nodded giving him raising their fist in the air as a fighting cheer to him before snickering. Baekhyun who just shook his head and went to his room for a shower as the nervous he already was, his friends made it even worse.
On the other hand, you walked into your room after all the chattering with your family and checked your phone to 2 missed calls and few messages from Baekhyun.
You frowned but then dialed back his number to call him.
Mrs Byun walked in Baekhyun's room and heard the showering sound from the bathroom and took the chance to change his bedsheets.
Not long before, she heard Baekhyun's phone ringing and told him about it which she got a reply from him to check it.
Sighing, she grabbed his phone and checked the caller ID only to get confused by the contact name on it.
"Coffee Bean?" She mumbled confusingly before answering it and pushed it to her ear.
"Hello." You spoke and frowned when he didn't say anything back while Mrs Byun was confused as hell but understood who the girl was.
She cleared her throat. "Hello?"
Your eyebrows crashed together hearing a female voice and checked if have dialed the right number and it indeed was right before pushing your phone back to your ear.
"Who's this?" You asked cautiously.
"I'm Baekhyun's mother."
Your phone almost slipped from your hand but you clutched it tightly before covering the phone with your hand. You eyed the phone shockingly and puffed out your cheeks before taking a deep breath and gulped.
"Hello, Mrs Byun." You greeted her politely though your heart was banging loudly against your chest. "I had something to talk to Baekhyun but it's okay it can wait. Sorry if I bothered you."
Mrs Byun smiled. "No no, you didn't. Don't mind it. Actually Baekhyun is in the shower, so I'll tell him to call you after."
"Yes, no problem. Then have a good night." You said and hearing a same reply from him, you hung up and the phone slipped out of your hand landing on the bed. Thankfully.
Baekhyun walked out drying his hair with the towel and saw his mother smiling looking at her phone and seeing that he approached her.
"Who was it?"
"Your Coffee Bean." She handed him the phone before fixing the pillows properly on its place and Baekhyun looked at her shook.
"She is your girlfriend right?"
Baekhyun smiled nodding before chuckling. "She must have freaked out."
Mrs Byun smiled. "Well, she sounded polite and nice too. How is she like?"
"She's incredible." Baekhyun didn't even took a second to reply and seeing that Mrs Byun just shook her head before smiling at him.
"I guess, she must be as you have been happier since the day you have visited us." She approached him and made him sit on the bed before she began to dry his hair with the towel.
"All we want to see you is happy and seeing you this happy, is enough for me." She smiled before laying the towel around the chair and Baekhyun grinned shyly flipping his hair back out of habit.
"So? When will you introduce her to us? I really can't wait to meet her." She said turning around. "By the way, what's her name?"
Baekhyun chuckled. "Y/n. And I'll introduced her to you soon but tomorrow I have to be introduced to her family."
She nodded folding her arms and approached him with a understanding smile. "I know you must be nervous already. And it's normal since you're meeting her parents as you want to make a good impression. So just be yourself."
Baekhyun nodded and Mrs Byun was walking out but stopped at the door frame and looked back at him. "I want every detail at the dining table."
Baekhyun laughed and then Mrs Byun said something before going down which left him blushing.
"I wonder when will I see my grandkids."
"Eomma!"
He pouted before someone crossed his mind and took his phone before dialing the number.
You were walking back and forth in your room while biting your thumb nail nervously and having a bucket of thoughts before you jumped when your phone rang and saw it was Baekhyun.
You carefully pushed the phone to your ear and kept mum not wanting to take a risk then heard a deep chuckle on the other side making you sigh in relief.
"What do I do? Ah! Seriously! I just talked to your mother. Oh God! What should I do now?!" You whined, ranting nonstop and Baekhyun smiled already imagining you stomping your foot cutely.
Oh, How much he wanted to see that scene.
"Y/n, relax." He said making your babbling to stop. "She likes you and wants to meet you too."
"Me? Right now?!"
He laughed. "No, dummy but don't you think this feels kind of familiar?"
You frowned but then flashback of your conversation at the restaurant crossed your mind and you gasped.
"Dejavu." You both blurted out in unison and Baekhyun chuckled confusing you.
"Karma really works fast in our case." He uttered and you could imagine him smirking causing you roll your eyes.
"Whatever, I'm going down." You huffed and he laughed at his whiny girlfriend before hanging up and you chuckled.
Then your door burst opened flinching you and there was standing a devil at the door frame, Jae.
"Haven't you heard about knocking?"
He shrugged plopping on your bed. "This is my house, why do I have to knock? I heard your boyfriend is coming tomorrow."
You frowned seeing his evil smirk. "Don't you dare pick on him."
He looked at you amused. "Oooh, already protective huh? Let me tell this to everyone."
With that he got up and ran out of your room with you chasing him down.
"Jae! No!"
Life surely becomes an entertainment when you have annoying brothers and a boyfriend who doesn't leave a chance to tease you but were you complaining? No, because at the same time, you loved this.
