WORD COUNT: 2.6k
SUMMARY: You made a promise in the beginning of Love On Tour and now it's catching up with you and though your heart wants you to keep your word, you know it's not that easy, because it's about your boss, the person who matters the most to you.

You should have learned by now that Harry Styles never forgets.
He remembers every birthday, anniversary, every story anyone tells him, he remembers fans he has interacted with and he is extremely good with names. It’s definitely one thing you admire about him.
But know this tiny detail about him did not teach you to watch what you say around him, because he will recite your words even years later.
It’s been an on and off tango between the two of you for a long time. As his assistant, you’ve been dancing on the line of being professional and jumping into his bed whenever he does as so much as looking at you with those stupid, gorgeous eyes. He is your job, you keep telling that to yourself, but deep down you know he is more than just that.
He is… everything.
It would be easier if he only saw you as his assistant, but that’s not the case. Just how you caught those certain feelings, Harry has shown interest towards you, on several occasions, flirting with you bluntly, asking you out every possible chance.
And each time, when you turned down, a voice in your head screamed at you, but your rationality has been stronger so far and it hasn’t let you take that leap that would change everything forever.
Now, back to his immaculate memory.
You’d been working for him for over a year when the first European leg of Love On Tour was about to start, the residency shows were set to be announced and along with the South American, Australian and Asian dates and another full European leg was in the planning phase. Tour was looking endless and everyone on the team was joking that there won’t be a final show of Love On Tour.
Following another meeting in Harry’s LA home you were hanging out by his pool, something that happened quite often, because he liked to share what he had with the people around him. The sun was setting and you both had several glasses of wine, so the business talk has been long forgotten when you ordered food for the two of you.
You were in the shallow, lounge area of the pool where you could sit in the water and you were enjoying a hamburger while he was swimming around, watching you. You caught him looking right in the middle of a huge bite.
“What?” you asked, narrowing your eyes at him as he swam closer with a grin on his face.
“You look amazing.”
You snorted out loud, mouth full and probably smelling like onions.
“I’m sure I do,” you sarcastically said. “Is this what turns you on? Chewing and onion smell?”
“No. It’s you.”
You stopped and gave him a suspicious look. He moved over and sat beside you.
“You turn me on, Y/N,” he added, when you didn’t say anything, just leisurely staring back at you, as if he hadn’t just overstepped a major boundary between boss and employee.
“Harry, stop,” you mumbled, putting the remainder of your burger to the plate at the edge of the pool.
“What? You started it with guessing what turns me on.”
“It was just a joke!”
“Okay, and I told you the truth.”
“You definitely shouldn’t be saying shit like that to me.”
“Too late, already did, so I think we could take it even further,” he shrugged and you couldn’t hold back a laugh.
“Oh, you are something else, Harry Styles, you know that?”
“That didn’t sound like a no to me,” he grinned, moving just a tad bit closer, but still respecting your private space. “I really want to kiss you, Y/N,” he bluntly added and you knew it was the wine talking from him, sober Harry wouldn’t have said those words out loud, but it didn’t fail to make you feel dizzy and weak.
“That’s not gonna happen now,” you shook your head.
“Okay, if not now, then when?”
“You are so annoying,” you laughed again. “You know what? You can kiss me when Love On Tour officially ends,” you joked.
It was a genuine joke. Anyone would have known you didn’t mean it, but it was Harry you said it to and the moment the words left your mouth they burned into his memories forever.
“Alright then,” he simply said, splashed you and then swam away.
That was the beginning of 2022. You slept off the wine and though you never forgot you said it, you didn’t keep track of the promise you initially made.
Harry did, however.
Not one day went by without him thinking about those words and it was the only reason he was looking forward for the very last show of Love On Tour.
He’s been acting weird, probably since about Vienna. With two weeks until the end of tour and his break, your workload hasn’t gotten less so you couldn’t really care about his weirdness, but when you’re out for dinner in Barcelona with the band and some other crew members and two rounds of drinks have been consumed already, you finally acknowledge the change.
“Hey, you alright?” You poke your elbow into his side, stealing a fry from his plate. Shrugging, he pushes the plate closer to you.
“Just thinking.”
“About what?” you ask, snacking on his leftover fries.
“The end of tour.”
Freezing you instantly remember to that one conversation in his pool. You peek at him and find him already looking at you with a gaze that burns right into your heart. Clearing your throat you turn back to the fries and pretend like you don’t remember the promise you made.
“Just two more weeks and you’re free.”
“That’s not how I see it.”
“Mmm,” you hum, but don’t dare to look at him. You can feel his eyes on the side of your face, but luckily, before he could bring up anything specific Mitch call out his name from across the table and you’re relieved. For now.
It’s almost midnight when you all head back to the hotel and you and Harry somehow end up at the back of the group. The elevator is too full for the two of you to get in as well, so you wait for another round. While you’re still ignoring to look at him, he is very much only looking at you, it feels like.
The elevator returns and you get inside, but Harry pushes the button for the top floor.
“Hey, that’s—“
“I want to show you something,” he hold up a hand.
The top of the hotel has a rooftop bar with an amazing view of the city, the perfect grid of the streets, it’s breathtaking.
“I knew you would like it,” he smiles, leaning against the railing next to you, with his back towards the view, as if he was way more interested in seeing you than the city.
“Because you know me so well,” you chuckle softly.
“I do,” he answers quietly. “We have only four more shows.”
“Mhm,” you nod, eyes glued to the view in front of you.
“The final show of Love On Tour is in ten days.”
“I’m glad you keep track of the shows so well, I feel like I’m not even needed anymore,” you joke with a chuckle, but when you finally look at him you know why he is bringing all of these up.
“Do you remember what you promised would happen when the last show finally comes?”
“Harry…”
“You do,” he simply says. “I know you as someone who keeps her word.”
“It’s… Harry, that was never a promise, I was just joking!”
“None of it is a joke to me, Y/N.”
You roll your eyes, but hate the effect his words have on you. Like your whole inside is on fire, begging to just give in finally, to end this years long game and act on the feelings you’ve been pushing down so hard all this time.
Sighing you cross your arms over your chest. You want to make fun out of it again and say that it was all just about a kiss, but you know, you both know that it would never stop at one kiss, that it’s bigger than that and it would consume you fully if you let your walls down.
“This seems like a big mistake,” you tell him honestly. “What if it goes wrong and… I lose my job… and you.”
Your voice breaks at the end and you can’t look him in the eyes. You’ve spent endless nights thinking about what would happen if you gave in and it all went downhill. Your job might be the last thing on the list of worries, what really scares you is to imagine a version of your life without him because.
It would break you.
“Being scared of the wrong outcome will keep you away from the best things in your life, Y/N.”
“Did you just call yourself the best thing in my life?” you try to joke, but he just gives you a look.
“Don’t think about the what ifs, if you get there, you’ll figure it out. You always do. We always do.”
“This is not that simple,” you shake your head. “You know it’s not that simple.”
“But it is,” he chuckles, but you keep shaking your head. “Figuring out my feelings has never been this simple.”
There’s a heartbeat of silence when not even you know whether you’re about to give in or not and for a split second it actually feels like you’re breaking, but something pulls you back last minute.
“No. And we should be heading back, you have a show tomorrow. You need to get some rest.”
You step away from the railing and start walking back, but when you notice that he’s not coming you turn around and see him staring at the city this time. Opening your mouth you’re about to call out for him, but then change your mind and let him be, walking back to your room.
When you see him again in the morning he doesn’t bring it up again and you’re convinced he won’t bring your promise up again.
The last show has everyone all over the place, you’ve been running around since about six in the morning, picking up people, making sure the hotel check-ins go smoothly and everything is exactly how it should be. The day feels like a whole week, but the excitement and bittersweet sadness that’s been wrapped around everyone is what keeps you up on your feet still.
But the real weight of the last show hits the moment it finally starts.
This is the time when you have nothing to do so you watch Harry perform every night, meaning that this is the 169th time you’re seeing him take the stage and perform just as perfectly as he did at the first, the fiftieth and one hundredth show. He always gives his absolute most. Not just at his shows, but in his life as well. That’s one of the million reasons you fell for him.
Medicine has everyone dying, all 100 thousand people out there and then Harry starts giving his speech that’s extra long this time, talking about how grateful he is for everything, for his fans, his friends and family and it’s one big emotional mess and you can’t help but cry a bit as well, watching from the side.
“The last two years of my life, the last two years of this tour has been the greatest experience I could ever ask for…”
“I see it, the love, in how it’s affected all the people around me, continue to affect people. It does not end with this tour.”
“I love you, thank you so much.”
Screaming rolls over the crowd as an answer and you expect him to go on with starting As It Was, but then he starts talking again.
“There is one more thing I want to say tonight. I have learned and experienced so much in the past years. I will be forever thankful for the memories we’ve made.”
There. He said we, he switched up his narrative. That’s how you know he is not talking to the crowd. He is talking to you.
“If this is it, if it never goes beyond this, I would live a happy life. With you forever in my heart. But if we ever take it further, if we ever take the risk and reach for the stars and we might fall… just know that I will always be here for you. You can never lose me. No matter what. I love you.”
You suck on your breath, covering your mouth with your hand as you stare at him stand in the middle of the stage, staring out ahead of him, the crowd screaming for him, oblivious to the one sided conversation that just happened between you and him.
As It Was starts and the show carries on towards the end, but you’re still frozen in that moment and when the show ends and you watch Harry drop to his knees on the stage, you know things will never be the same.
Backstage is like a tornado once the show is over, the band walks off the stage and Harry is following right behind with Lloyd by his side, but when he sees you standing still in the middle of the madness, he drops out of the conversation right away and stops a few feet away from you, letting you decide where to go now.
“You promise?” you breathe out, your throat closing up. “You promise I will never lose you?”
“I thought that was clear by now, Y/N,” he replies, his chest still rapidly rising and falling. “But if you need me to actually say it, I will. You will never lose me, no matter what. It will always be you and me and I know you’re scared, but I’m—“
He doesn’t get to finish, because you’re already throwing yourself into his arms and kissing him.
It doesn’t matter that the whole crew bursts out into screaming and whistling, that you’re giving a second show with the way you get lost in each other, because in your little bubble it’s just you and Harry and everything that’s been building between the two of you.
Every joke, every teasing comment, all the stolen looks and suppressed feeling that was never acted on is now free, they all burst out of your chest and into the electricity that’s snaking around you as you keep taking more and more of him, hungry to make up for the past years.
The clapping dies down when you finally pull back, forehead resting against his, his hands holding you so tight as if he was afraid you might run away any moment.
“You kept your promise. I knew you were trusty, Y/N Y/L/N,” he chuckles, pecking your lips softly again as you laugh at his words, finally opening your eyes to look at him.
“Actually I feel like I kissed you. I promised you could kiss me, so technically—“
“Shut up, you’re already getting on my nerves,” he laughs, kissing you over and over again, so your promise is actually fulfilled. “Can’t wait for you to do that every day for the rest of my life.”
“I thought that was part of my job too, have I not been doing that?” you tease, lips moving against his as you speak.
“You have, but you can take it to a whole new level now,” he laughs, pulling you against him before letting you go and popping the bubble, though his hand never lets go of yours, not while everyone congratulates him, not when the final show celebrations start and not when he pulls you into his hotel room to end this journey of Love On Tour with you by his side, but also start a new chapter.
Thank you for reading, please like and reblog if you enjoyed and buy me a coffee if you want to support me!

Safe With Me - Part 4
Thomas Shelby x Reader
Summary: Summary: You’ve been sent back in time, landing in 1919 in Birmingham. You’re busy trying to survive when Thomas Shelby approaches you in a bar.
Word Count: 1.7k
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 5, Part 6
Tumblr media
Light shone through the curtains of your bedroom, causing you to squint slightly as you awakened. The sheets wrapped tightly around you, keeping your body warm.
You rolled over, letting out a yawn as you stretched out your body. This bedroom was the first thing to make you feel somewhat normal in this time. You had no idea how much having a bedroom would mean to you.
When you noticed the old clock on the bedside, your eyes snapped open. You needed to be at the bar in less than 15 minutes.
You jumped out of bed, running around the room to find an appropriate outfit for the day. Your hair was a mess, but you had no time to sort that out.
The floorboards creaked as you ran around the house. Harry was going to kill you. He’d already given you so much; there was no way you could let him down.
You were panicked as you opened the door, running out quickly.
You felt yourself collide into something. Your immediate reaction was to wrap your arms around it before you realised it was a person you were holding onto.
You pulled back quickly and looked up, opening your mouth to apologise until you realised it was Thomas.
“Oh god.. I’m so sorry” you puffed, causing him to smile at you.
“Someone’s in a hurry today” he said with a smirk.
You let out a nervous chuckle. You were staring into his eyes; almost forgetting the fact that you were going to be late.
“I’m running late” you admitted, not wanting to part from him but knowing you needed to go.
“I’ll walk with you” he offered. “Harry won’t say anything if you’re with me, love” he added, providing you with some reassurance.
A deep breath fell from your lips as you relaxed, looking up at him with a soft smile. The two of you walked slowly together. Thomas was clearly in no rush as he spent his time looking over at you, taking you in.
Your eyes glanced over at him a few times. Each time yours eyes met his, you felt yourself beginning to blush until you looked away. He admired you every time you looked away; his tough exterior breaking more and more.
When you approached the bar, Tommy opened the door and guided you in first.
Your eyes locked with Harry and you noticed the annoyance on his face.
His lips parted to say something until he noticed Thomas walking in behind you. The bar almost fell silent watching the two of you together.
You hurried over to the bar and next to Harry. “I’m so sorry for being late, it won’t happen again” you promised, looking over with pleading eyes.
Harry let out a grunt, keeping his eyes on Thomas Shelby. He knew he couldn’t say anything to you with him here. He chose to keep his mouth shut and leave you to work.
Thomas walked into his booth as usual, joining his brothers for a drink while you began to work. It was slow today, giving you time to breathe which you were grateful for.
Whilst you were busy cleaning between customers, a man walked up to the bar. You noticed he was one of the men Tommy sat with in the booth. You straightened up and gave him a smile.
“Could you get me another whiskey, love?” He asked with a welcoming smile, his eyes looking over you.
“Of course” you replied with a smile and began pouring him a glass.
“So you’re the girl who’s got my brother smilin’ again?” He said, raising his eyebrow and giving you a smirk.
You let out a soft chuckle and passed him the glass. “Oh.. I don’t know about that” you replied shyly, feeling heat rise into your cheeks.
He picked up the glass and took a swig, let out a satisfied sigh.
“Fuck, this stuff is good” he declared, crushing you giggle. “I’m Arthur” he added, formally introducing himself.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Y/N” you said softly.
“I’ll see ya around, Y/N. Don’t be a stranger” he finished before walking back into his usual booth.
As he left, you smiled to yourself. He was one of the first people to make you feel welcomed around here; he would never understand how much that meant to you.
-
At the end of the night, everyone had left including the Shelby boys. You were wiping down the last few tables, feeling grateful the day was over and you could rest.
You turned off the lights and locked the door behind you, closing up the bar. As you turned around you were stopped by Tommy, standing there with his elbow out.
“No way your walking by yourself this late, love” he said.
You gave him a soft smile as you wrapped your hand around his arm, leaning on him a little before you began to walk.
“I met your brother today… Arthur” you said.
He looked down at you and raised his eyebrows. “I hope he didn’t give you any trouble” he replied as his lips curled into a grin.
“No, no. He’s really quite nice” you said genuinely.
Tommy gave you a nod of approval, glad to hear his brothers weren’t pestering you because of him.
You approached the door and unlocked it before looking back at Thomas. You were thinking to yourself for a moment before parting your lips to speak.
“Did you want to come in.. for a little while?” You offered, feeling slightly nervous.
He looked around a moment before catching your eye, giving you a smile. “Alright” he answered before following you inside.
You walked into the kitchen as he stood in the lounge. “Can I get you a drink?” you asked. “I have tea” you added.
“Tea sounds good” he said before taking a seat.
“Sorry I don’t have much else” you said with a soft chuckle before you made tea for the both of you. You hated tea, but you didn’t want him to leave.
You brought the drinks into the lounge and sat down next to him, leaving some space between you.
He took a sip and licked his lip before setting it back down. He leaned back against the couch and stretched his arm over the back of it, leaving his hand behind your head.
You felt yourself staring at him and wished you could look away. Your eyes were scanning his lips, wanting so badly to feel them against yours again.
His lips curled into a smile, as if he knew exactly what you were thinking. He moved his hand, reaching out towards your face before gently stroking your cheek.
You urged your body to not blush and were immediately betrayed as your cheeks turned red. His eyes softened as he looked at you.
“Dance with me” he grinned before standing up and holding his hand out to you.
You let out a chuckle. “There’s no music” you said.
“Who said we need music?” He questioned, gesturing for you to stand.
You hid your smile as you reached out, placing your hand in his before rising to your feet.
He wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you gently towards him before you both swayed together slowly.
You couldn’t pull your eyes away from him, feeling him practically staring into your soul.
He wasted little time before leaning down, pressing his lips to yours. He was gentle again, savouring the taste of you. You kissed him back in the same way, taking your time and appreciating how good this felt. You didn’t have time to worry about what you were doing, or why this should be the last thing you’re doing in this time.
For someone with such a dangerous reputation, he was so gentle with you.
His lips left yours, causing you to ache as he pulled away. You cursed yourself for feeling this way, but you were getting in too deep now.
His forehead rested against yours for a moment as a smile crept across his face. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this way; he was savouring every second with you.
When the two of you parted, Thomas reached down to finish his drink and placed the empty glass in the kitchen.
“Join me tomorrow” he said. “I need you with me for an event” he finished.
You paused for a moment, realising you didn’t really have a choice since you were in his debt. “What should I wear?” You asked with a nervous chuckle.
He smiled at you. “I’ll sort that out” he answered. “I’ll be here at 3” he said before he walked over to you.
He reached his hands up, cupping your cheeks before leaning in to kiss you again. His lips were firmer than before, hungrier.
Your breath lodged in your throat as you pushed back against him.
He pulled away, keeping his hands on your face for a few seconds before dropping them to his side.
His hand grabbed yours, raising it to his lips before he gently kissed the back of it. “Goodnight” he said softly.
You felt yourself gulp, wishing you could make him stay. “Goodnight..” you whispered, feeling his hand leave yours as he walked towards the door and left.
-
Raindrops hit the pavement as the cloudy weather began to settle in for the day.
You were pacing around the lounge, your mind racing as you wondered what you were in for today with Thomas. You urged the nerves to go away but they persisted, making it clear they were here to stay.
You heard a knock at the door and practically ran over, expecting to see Tommy.
The door swung open before you passed, staring at the woman in front of you with a bag in hand.
“You must be Y/N” she exclaimed, looking you up and down.
You felt your chest tighten, feeling intimidated by her presence. “Yes.. that’s me” you replied shyly.
“I’m Polly.. Tommy sent me to make sure you’re ready for this afternoon” she said before walking into your house, inviting herself in.
You closed the door, keeping your eyes on her. You had heard about her and knew she was related to Thomas; she felt far more dangerous than he did.
She pulled a dress from her bag and held it up in front of you, taking in the shape. “Perfect” she grinned before placing it over the back of the couch.
“Well, no time for chit-chat. Let’s get you dressed” she said firmly.
This event was making you more and more panicked by the second.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ “we fell in love in October”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Abby genuinely doesn’t understand how she hadn’t disintegrated or burst into flames on your first date. She was nervous, finding it so hard to focus on what you were saying when her eyes were more focused on the way your lips moved, and the way the gloss sparkled when all she wanted to do was kiss you under the dim light of the restaurant. You had talked to her about your interests and disinterests with such softness that even when she did finally hear what you were saying and wasn’t too focused on how your lips would feel against hers, she noticed the small things. The way you would move your hands around when talking or explaining, how you would tilt your head to the side, your hand covering your mouth when you giggle about a distant memory you were sharing. Or even how you throw your head back, and let out the most beautiful laugh she’s ever heard when you quickly remember something funny that happened to you when you were just a reckless teenager.
Even if she was nervous then, Abby still loved to see you happy and smiling. It took her so many times to agree to you taking her on a date. Not because she didn’t want you to, but because she was so in awe of you, and how pretty you were, and she was always stumped on how someone like you, so carefree, so full of so much hope and happiness, would ever think of her in the way she thinks of you. To put it easily, you were just as nervous as she was, always wondering if you had said too much, or said too little when you’d spot her walking around bookcase after bookcase of the library at 11pm. Would she mind if you had sat beside her? Would the broad-shouldered blonde care if you made a comment or recommendation on a book you had found her reading? Would she get irritated with the way you would sometimes read what you were reading, aloud? Would Abby ever—
“What’s got you thinking so hard?”
The rasp of her voice brings you back to reality where you find her, sitting in the chair opposite you, head buried in her current read, an eyebrow raised. A sign all her attention was on you, but still in her book. The sweater she was wearing, fitted her perfectly. “Just thinking about when i fell in love with you” You replied truthfully, looking back at your own book, bottom lip tugged between your teeth as you tried hiding your smile at the way her eyebrows shot up.
“Oh yeah? When did you finally realize you were so head over heels for me, sweet girl?”
“I remember the storm . . the one at the beginning of October last year? do you remember? i was stuck here, and you stole my number from a friend, just to tell me to not leave in case i got stuck out in it, or ended up getting hurt. And you drove 4 hours just to bring me a hot chocolate because you somehow knew they calmed me down with the loud sounds. You drove for 4 hours, in a storm we were told not to be out in, just to bring me a fucking drink. Then a few days later, i came here again to find you, to thank you for risking your life to make sure i was safe, and you were sat right there— at the table by the window, to be precise. You were wearing one of your old, as you know i like to call them, grandpa sweaters with your cute Harry Potter glasses and you came up to me before i could and you asked if i had a Library card because you were new around here and didn’t have your own yet”
How could she forget that day? For her, it was embarrassing and borderline exhausting rushing around, having to borrow someone else’s card to simply read a goddamn book. It felt easier when she spotted you again though. Unaware that you were waiting for her to turn up. Curled up on the couch, your jacket covering your slightly shivering body from the cold weather, and a cup of whatever hot beverage you had decided to buy at the café that morning, and a book, one she can’t remember because you read so many she can’t keep up, in your hands. You looked like an angel in her eyes. You always have.
“I would risk my life any day just so i know you are safe, no matter what” She admitted softly, book long forgotten as she smiled at you. “I was in love with you for a long time, you just made me extremely nervous. I asked your friend for your number in hopes it would make me feel less nervous but it didn’t. Everything about you is so perfect that i felt like i wouldn’t have a chance? But when the storm happened . . i didn’t want you to be alone, i never want you to be or feel alone”
“With you, I never feel alone Abs”

✺ (1/8) ✺ @jegulus-microfic prompt: converse — 1,130 words (jegulus dads ft. harry; going through harry’s baby things)
“Oh no.” There’s a dramatic level of pain in James’ voice —there has been all afternoon since they started this project— and Regulus sighs quietly, lips twitching at the corners. “Reg, look at these.”
Regulus finishes folding the quilt that Pandora made for Harry to leave the hospital in, sets it in its new box marked ‘keep,’ then turns to his husband.
This has been a common occurrence as they’ve undertaken this task; going through Harry’s baby things to see what they truly need to hold onto and what can be donated has been an emotional journey. Admittedly, Regulus is having a progressively difficult time keeping it together the more that they find, but he’s let James be the one to express the feelings they’re both experiencing. Loudly and repetitively.
Balanced on James’ wide palm is a pair of infant-sized Converse, so tiny it’s hard to believe they ever belonged to a person, much less that that person was the five year old that’s currently coloring at a folding table in the corner of their garage. The little shoes are red, matching a pair that James has kept consistently replaced and in his wardrobe for years.
“I can’t believe he was ever this small,” James muses, stroking one finger over the laces of one.
“I know,” Regulus sighs, bottom lip jutting out in a faint pout. Okay, it’s getting to him now. They’ve been at this for hours, they’re near done. He told himself he wasn’t going to get in his feelings about this, at least not until they’d finished, but… “I think I miss it.”
“Me too.” James reaches for his hand, tows him close to his side to curl his arm around him, both their gazes remaining fixed on the baby shoes. “Should we have another one?”
Regulus lets out a surprised sounding laugh, swinging a backhanded swat gently into James’ stomach. “We have Luna in the picture, too.”
“Also no longer a baby,” James points out. “We could definitely do it.”
“You’re forgetting an important detail.”
“What’s that?”
Regulus half-turns in the curl of James’ arm to look toward their son where Harry sits. A marker clutched just a smidge too tight in one hand, tongue poking out between his teeth in concentration. There’s smudges of different marker colors on his hands, a few pens uncapped and drying out scattered on the table top. Harry doesn’t look up until Regulus calls his name.
“Yes, papa?” He nudges his glasses up and blinks wide green eyes over at him, curious.
“How do you feel about having a baby brother or sister?” Regulus asks.
Harry’s brow furrows deeply. “I already have a sister.”
Regulus gestures toward the little boy as if his point has just been made.
“Another one, then. Wouldn’t that be fun, mate?” James suggests.
Scrunching his face up further in thought, Harry tilts his head, taps the marker in his hand against his chin. Regulus huffs a quiet laugh when the pause extends for several seconds, serious thought clearly being given to this question. In the end, Harry shrugs his shoulders dramatically, keeping them held up toward his ears.
“Well, I don’t know,” He says. “Would I have to share my toys?”
“You already have to share your toys, because that’s the nice thing to do,” Regulus reminds him.
“But a baby can’t play with all of my toys. Because they’re a baby and I’m not a baby.”
“Solid logic on that, mate,” James chuckles. He moves to set the red Converse on the table between the keep and donate boxes, undecided on where they belong. “We’ll think about it, eh? Put a pin in it?”
Harry looks at them both for a long moment before nodding his head once, poking his open marker into the air like he’s physically putting a pin in the thought. Instead of returning to coloring, he drops the marker onto the table —Regulus makes a mental note to replace this pack again when it’s the fifth one left to dry out. Wiggling off his chair, Harry comes over to them, picking up the shoes James sat down.
“Were these mine?” He asks, giggling when he stuffs his fingers into one and wears it like an odd glove. “They’re so small.”
“Yeah, so were you,” Regulus hums.
“But I’m tall now. Taller than Luna and Draco, too.” Harry puts the other shoe on his opposite hand, smacking the small soles together in semblance of a clap.
“You used to match daddy when you wore those shoes as a baby, you know,” Regulus tells him, pointing at his hidden hands.
“Used to put you in them all the time when we’d go out together,” James adds, smiling fondly.
Harry looks down at the shoes, silly with his hands in them, then back up at the two of them with an unexpected frown. “How come we don’t anymore?”
Regulus turns his head, looking at James in playful accusation. “An excellent question.”
“Hey, now, don’t act like this is my fault. You were the one that encouraged him making all his own choices. He never picked the Converse himself,” James argues.
“Well, I could get some now, daddy,” Harry stresses like this is the most obvious answer. He holds up his hands, shoes on display. “‘Cause these ones are too small.”
“Should we save them for the baby, you think?” James asks him.
“So we can all match.” Harry nods at first but then cuts himself short, eyes landing on Regulus. “But papa doesn’t have any.”
“Red isn’t papa’s color,” Regulus says.
“Beg to differ.” James’ mumble earns him an elbow in the ribs, a laugh punching out of him. “We’ll get some for papa, too, just for fun.”
“And then these ones are for the baby,” Harry confirms, setting the Converse back on the table.
“Well. We’ve circled back to this very quickly,” Regulus comments, amused, shaking his head slowly.
James hums in acknowledgment, grinning triumphantly when Regulus looks at him. He leans in and leaves a kiss against his forehead, lips still pressed against the spot, breath breezing through black curls, when he tells Harry to drop the shoes into the keep box for them. Regulus watches him examine each box, fondness blooming warmth in his chest as Harry sounds out letters he recognizes to figure out which box is the right one.
They’ve all done such a good job with this perfect little boy of theirs, doing it all over again with a new baby might just make life impossibly more wonderful.
We’ll put a pin in it, Regulus thinks again.
He’ll have to wait and see when it’s truly circled back to in seriousness. He keeps it to himself that he wouldn’t mind if it was sooner rather than later.

Long Way Down Part One
Part Three
Here's the story of married Harry who's a dad to three small kiddos, and married for over seven years to Y/N. Marriage is always hard work, but what happens when being married to a pop star becomes too much for Y/N?
WARNING-slight references to sex, curse words
This is angst angst and more angst. There are other parts to the story, and with enough feedback, I'll post more to this story.
Word Count 4.7K
“Japan. Chile. Australia. Oh, and let's not forget Madagascar. Mada-Fucking-gascar, Harry. Who goes to Madagascar? Why the one and only Harry Styles? That's who. You realize most people never see any of those places in an entire lifetime, right? But you, you went to all of those places THIS YEAR!” Y/N stomps to their daughter's room picks her up from her crib, hoists the baby on her hip, and walks out of the nursery and down the hall.
Harry follows her to the kid’s bathroom. "Y/N, baby, it was all for work. I don't care about those places, don't even get to enjoy them."
"It doesn't matter. You still got to go. And that's in addition to your normal New York, LA, often Paris or Rome. Those places are just another day at the office for you. Do you want to know where I've been? Whole Foods. Baby Gym. Holmes Chapel. The park. School runs. Yep, that’s about it. Oh, the doctors, and kids' birthday parties; on wild days, a friend comes for a glass of wine when I can finally relax at 9 PM. So don’t do this with me, not this time.” She begins to undress the baby. She’s seething but keeps her voice down so the little one isn’t upset.
“Do you know how many days you’ve been home since the tour ended? I’ll tell you because I know exactly. 26. You could’ve paid someone to do your dirty laundry and brought home clean clothes. Even the slightest gesture to show you get how hard it is around here.”
“I’m sorry. I was so focused on just getting home I didn’t even think of having them done.” Harry turns on the bath water and tests the temperature.
“Oh, poor thing. Traveling the world in the lap of luxury must be torture.”
Harry walks to the door. "No, Y/N, no. You know what a tour is like. You've been on the road with me. You know how utterly chaotic it is. Yes, I should've thought about the laundry, but I didn’t.”
She places the baby in her bathtub seat, squats, and begins soaping her up. “Of course, you didn’t think of me.”
Harry is leaning on the doorframe of the bathroom now. “Babe, swear if you give me just a bit to decompress, I'll be happy to give you whatever ya need. We’ll take a family vacation, go someplace nice, the five of us, any place you like, you pick.” He extends his hands in her direction.
“You've been home 26 days. That's how long you've had to decompress.” She uses air quotes around decompress. You've done zero loads of laundry. I do at least four a day, trying to catch up with everything. Laundry never ends even when it’s just me and the kids. You leave a trail of mess in every room. You do nothing to help, nothing. It’s like you’ve completely checked out on the fact this is supposed to be a partnership.”
“My job isn’t just dancing around in sparkly trousers for an hour or two. I’m fucking exhausted too. You’re not playin’ fair, Y/N.”
"Thing is, I'm not playing at all, Harry.”
“A vacation with the five of us is a vacation to you, Harry, not to me. I love you guys, I really do, but I need a break. I needed this just for me. I wasn't asking for much, Harry. Five days for myself, time to decompress, as you call it. I wanted to be with my friends and sisters, but you know what, never mind. Go. Just go. We’ll talk about it when I’ve put her to bed.”
“I’ll put her to bed.” He closes the door behind him when he steps out.
Harry hears her singing Adore You. The song always makes the baby smile. Y/N can’t be completely furious if she’s still singing his songs. Harry couldn’t be more wrong.
When Y/N finishes with the bath, she wraps her daughter in her little duck towel with a hood and exits the bathroom. Their son’s door is cracked down the hall, and she hears Harry talking with him. She stands just outside the entrance to eavesdrop.
“That sounds like a good time, buddy. I’m glad you had fun with your friend. Did you make sure to hug him and say thank you before you left his house? Did you thank his family for having you over?”
“Yes.” He sounds so tiny for someone who wrecked Y/N’s nerves with his big voice the entire time Harry was gone.
“So, let’s get snug as a bug in a rug.” Harry wraps the blanket over their son and kisses his forehead. "Have a good sleep, and we'll have some fun in the morning, yeah?”
“Love you, Dad.”
Harry walks across the room and turns off the light. “Love you even more, bud. See you in the morning.” He closes the door when he leaves the room.
“Thank you.”
“He’s m’ son too, Y/N.” Harry walks toward the couple’s room, head hanging down; he drags his finger along the wall.
He doesn’t stick around to help put Lola down, be it because he forgot he said he would put her to bed or he's just upset.
Y/N walks to Lola’s nursery, dries and lotions her, dresses her for bed, and places her in the crib, hoping she will go down without a fight. "Love you, punkin’. Good night.” She kisses her and stands near the bed. She waits to see if she cries. When she only babbles, y/n turns on the baby monitor and nightlight, then crosses the room, turning off the light as she exits, but only closes the door partially.
Y/N heads toward the bedroom, dreading how the rest of the evening will go. Harry is sitting on the bed reading a book about Japanese art, his readers slide down his nose as he pretends to be intensely focused, but she knows him and knows he’s not focused.
She walks to the dresser, opens a drawer, and gets some pjs. She’s too pissed off to bother with a shower but goes to the ensuite to undress. “Don’t have to pretend you’re reading Harry.” She changes her clothes and tosses the dirty clothes in the hamper, does her skincare, and brushes her teeth. She picks up a pair of Harry’s gross, beat-up sneakers as she enters the bedroom. "These are nice," she says, tossing them across the room.
“Cut the crap, Y/N. I know what you're doing. You're not getting a fight out of me, so toss all the shoes you want. I'm not going to argue with you. The passive-aggressive stuff stopped working a long time ago."
She exhales and sits on the bed. "Not being passive, Harry, just aggressive. I'm tired. I'm so tired." She falls back on the bed.
He crawls over to her and plants a kiss on her lips. “Mmm, minty.” He smiles.
“Yep.” She closes her eyes.
He kisses her again. “Come over here; Let’s have a snuggle and a good night’s sleep.”
“I can’t tonight. I just can’t.” She sighs as she climbs to the pillows, placing her head down on the fluffiest one-her favorite one.
“Can’t what?”
“Have sex.”
“Wasn’t trying to.”
She rolls her eyes. "Okay. I don't know your pattern exactly; whenever you want to get frisky. Just met you, have no idea what you're like when you want to pretend an argument didn't happen, makeup, move past it, and get what you want.”
Harry’s eyes narrow. He swallows the lump in his throat and shakes his head in disbelief. “Wow. I can’t believe you just said that. That’s one of the worst things you’ve ever said to me. To imply I manipulate you for sex.” Harry stands, grabs his pillow, and walks to the door. “I’ll be in the guestroom.”
The following day she slowly opens her eyes and reaches over to Harry, but he’s not there. She thought that after he cooled off, he'd return to bed. She thought he’d slip under the covers once he knew it was safe and she was asleep. But he didn't come back to bed. She sits up and looks around the room. Gross sneakers are still across the room, three of Harry's hoodies over the recliner, one of Lola’s toys, and an empty water bottle next to Harry’s wallet -the room is a disaster. She sighs, rubs her face, and flops back down. The house is quiet, almost too quiet. Why is it so quiet? In a panic, she sits up, throws on her robe, and walks to the door. She flings it open and rushes down the hall. When she gets to Lola's room, she pushes open the door; the light is off, and Harry, bare-chested, sits in the recliner, rocking her. "Is she sick? What time is it? Where is everyone?"
"No, she's not sick, Y/N, she's m’ daughter, and she needed a cuddle with her daddy."
"Oh. Look about last night…."
"Not right now, Y/N. Let me enjoy this. Archer and Poppy are in the playroom watching a film. They’ve had their breakfast.”
She nods and leaves the room. She can’t hold back her tears as she walks to the kitchen. But her tears abruptly halt when she enters the filthy kitchen. Harry obviously made breakfast for everyone. Pancakes and bacon are covered with a cloth and a note with Mumma written in crayon to let her know it is hers. But the tenderness she feels doesn’t last long as she scans the kitchen. The dirty plates, cups, pots, and pans litter the kitchen and breakfast nook. The stove is splattered with grease and batter, and God knows what else. She starts to gather the dishes to clean them and load the dishwasher. Once everything is in the sink, she sits at the table in the breakfast nook, picking at the plate of food left for her. She isn’t hungry. Lately, she never is.
"Not as good as yours, but not half bad.” Harry breaks the silence as he stands next to the fridge arms folded over his muscular chest.
“Where is-“
“Living room in her pack-n-play.”
“Okay.” She picks up a slice of bacon and bites into it. She tosses it back on the plate.
She stands, walks to the sink, and begins cleaning off the excess food.
“I was going to do that as soon as I got done with the baby. I didn't have time to juggle it all."
“Really? Didn’t have time? Couldn’t juggle it all? That’s rich.” She shakes her head and chuckles as she places the cutlery into the designated basket in the dishwasher.
He shakes his head, looking at the ground. He cocks his mouth to the side and clicks his tongue. "Touche." He walks over and begins placing the dishes in the dishwasher.
She moves, allowing him the glamorous opportunity of a lifetime. “Wonder when the last time you did this was. Long before X-Factor, I’m sure.”
“Don’t.” Harry scrapes off a dish.
“But why not? You get to have all the fun. You get to do all the talking. You get to see all the things. Meet all the people. You get it all.” She leans against the counter, tapping her fingers.
“Y/N, I’m warning you-don’t.”
Her eyes widen, and she stands with a smirk on her face. This man bought all the audacity. “Warning me? Warning me? What are you going to do if I don't stop? Nothing.”
To get her attention, he throws a glass, aiming it at the sink, but not realizing the force behind it, it crashes into the stainless steel and shatters.
They both jump back, then freeze.
He reaches toward Y/N. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I didn’t mean to."
“Get out. I mean it, Harry. And I don’t mean the kitchen. You leave this house. You leave this house now, and don’t come back.” Her words are low and deliberate as she stares at the floor.
“That was out of order what just happened. I'm sorry; you know I'd never lay a hand on you or do anything in the world to scare you. Don't know what came over me."
“I said get out.”
“Excuse me? Don’t come back to my own frickin' house? You've got to be kidding. I'm doing no such thing, Y/N. Will I go downstairs and stay in the entertainment room or sleep in the guest room? Sure. Will I take the kids out for the day? Sure. But leave? No. We’ve never spent one day apart in anger, and we aren’t starting now, so get that idea out of your little head.” He points to his temple, gritting his teeth.
“Fine, then I will.” She pushes him out of the way when she passes him to leave the kitchen.
Harry follows her. “You’ll what, Y/N?” He grabs her arm, attempting to stop her.
“Get your damn hand off of me, you big bully.” She jerks away, storming toward the bedroom.
Harry goes to the living room to get Lola. He hears their bedroom door slam. Poor girl is probably scared. She’s never heard people shout before, especially her mama or daddy. And now her mama says she’s leaving? The words don’t even sound right when Harry says them to himself. Harry approaches the bedroom, tapping on the door. “Y/N, the baby, it’s time for her feeding.”
She marches toward him and takes the baby. “Of course it is; one more thing your pathetic ass can't do around here. Now, get out." She pushes against the door.
Harry walks out and closes the door.
***
Downstairs, Harry talks to Poppy and Archie, making sure that if they heard the yelling, they aren't scared. "Arch, you okay, bud?”
“Yeah.” He doesn’t look up just keeps playing with the Barbie and Ken dolls.
“Pop, you doing okay?"
“Yes, daddy. Are you?” She walks over and hugs his legs.
“Yes, baby, Daddy is fine. Are you guys in the mood for a trip to the zoo? Maybe some pizza and ice cream after?
“Yeah.” Poppy detaches herself from her daddy and jumps up and down.
“Can we go now?” Archer says, dropping the dolls and standing up.
"We can. Let's go get dressed, yeah?" Harry walks toward the stairs to the home's main floor.
The kids follow him up.
“Are mumma and the baby coming?” Poppy asks.
"Not sure, baby girl.”
Archer interjects. “If they’re gonna yell, I hope not."
Harry turns around. "There won't be any yelling, buddy, but that's not nice what you just said. We never say things like that, especially about your mummy or baby sister. We always want them included in whatever we do, always. Don’t ever say anything like that ever again.”
Archer is crying now. "Sorry, Daddy, I didn't mean it."
At the top landing of the stairs, Harry stops and kneels to Archer putting his arms around him. "Come here. Let's hug Daddy, yeah?"
Archer slowly puts his arms around Harry’s neck. “Didn’t mean it, Dad.”
"I know, buddy, we're all having a bad day, but what is the one, very most important rule in this house."
“Treat people with kindness.” Archer releases himself from the embrace.
"That's right, treat one another with kindness and love and goodness."
Archer sniffles. “I will.”
“All right, to our rooms, we go.” Harry leads the kids into the hall.
Harry feels like his heart just broke in two. The one thing they’d both agreed on before having kids is they would raise them in a peaceful home. They both came from divorced parents and knew what it was like when the family was immensely unhappy.
Harry ushers the kids to their rooms once back in the central portion of the house. "Okay, lollipop, do you need daddy's help getting dressed? Or do you want to try by yourself today?"
“I can do it, Daddy,” Poppy says. She pushes her blonde curls off her face.
"Good girl. Now, if you need me, call me, okay? And if you want something hanging up, remember no climbing; call for me, and I'll get it.” Harry pats her on the back.
“Okay.” Poppy skips to her room.
“Arch, do you need help?" Harry asks, following Archer as he walks to the room next to Poppy's.
“No, I got it.”
"Okay, guys, I'm going to help mummy with Lola. I'll be just down the hall."
Harry takes his time to get to the end of the hall. He taps on the door before entering. “Love?” He pokes his head in the door.
“Yeah.”
“Can I come in?”
“Yes.” She snuggles the baby closer as she nurses her.
“Gonna take the big kids to the zoo. Can I take Lola?”
"She's your baby too, Harry. Please don't ask me a question like that. Of course, you can take her.”
“All right, by the time I'm dressed, she should be finished, and I'll get her ready." Harry walks to the bathroom.
“Pretty sure I’m capable of getting my child dressed,” she mumbles.
Harry snaps around. "What the actual fuck is wrong with you, Y/N?" He's angry, but he keeps his voice down. "First, I do nothing, and then you pop off like that when I try to do something." Harry turns to walk back to the ensuite.
"Daddy's a grumpy pants, isn't he, baby girl? It's okay; you've got a mummy. She’ll take care of you, just like she always has.”
Harry stomps out of the bathroom, mouth full of toothpaste. “No, Y/N. No. You aren’t going to do that shit," he says, toothpaste foaming from his mouth as he flings the toothbrush and points it toward her.
She sighs. “Okay, Harry, whatever."
“Whatever? Whatever?” I’m done with this Y/N. Do what you will, hate me if you want, but don’t bad mouth me to our kids.” He walks again to the bathroom sink, and turns on the water, rinses his mouth out, dries it off.
“It’s not exactly like she understands what I’m saying.”
"Not exactly the point, Y/N.” He returns to the bedroom, then walks to the recliner, grabs a hoodie, and puts it on as he approaches the bed. "These babies are my entire life, Y/N. You know that, so think what you will of me as a husband, lover, and partner, but don’t you ever talk about me like that to our children.”
She’s burping the baby now, patting her on the back. “The kids are your entire life? I get it. Performing is your first love. No room for me.” She pulls her bottom lip in with her teeth and stares at nothing, looking at anything but Harry. Her eyes water, holding onto her tears.
Harry walks to her side of the bed. “You know that’s not what I meant, baby.” He sits on the bed next to her, his voice calmer now.
“No, I get it, Harry. Trust me, I do. I wouldn't blame you if you stopped loving and wanting me. Furthermore, why would you want any of this? I mean, look at this whole thing, and then there’s me. I’m a mess.”
“I’m looking at you. I see you. What are you talking about? And I love this mess, and I love you.” He places his hand on her knee. He pushes his eyebrows together and searches her face.
“It’s over, Harry.”
“No.” He shakes his head. “You’re tired and frustrated, but that’s life. It’s not over.”
"It wasn't a question." She hands Lola to him and stands. She tugs at the bottom of her t-shirt, the shirt she borrowed from him when they were dating and never gave it back. It's faded and stretched out, a picture of One Direction but with the words Spice Girls written on it.
Harry says nothing and watches her. She walks to the closet, grumbles, and grunts, knocking about with a few curse words sprinkled in. Once she finds what she's looking for, she returns to the bedroom, drops a suitcase on the bed, and then unzips it.
"Y/N, baby, what are you doing?"
"I told you I'm leaving. You didn't think taking the kids to the zoo would stop that did you?"
“This is crazy. I’m gonna put Lola in her crib. I’ll be back.” Harry stands, walks across the room, and exits.
A few moments later, he returns. She removes clothes from the dresser. Harry approaches her and places his hand on her elbow. "Baby, let's talk about this. You can leave me, in theory, until we can figure something out, but you can't just walk out on the kids."
She shrugs him off her. “Don’t touch me. There is nothing to figure out, not between us. As for the kids, of course, I'm not leaving them forever, don't be so dramatic, but I am leaving for now."
She goes to the bathroom. Harry can hear her gathering items from the vanity. He sits on the bed, dropping his head in his hands, then lifts his head resting his fingers tips under his chin. He stares at two crayons on the floor under the dresser. He makes that his sole focus, unable to look at her when Y/N returns and tosses the cosmetics bag into the suitcase. She huffs and sighs.
“I might not help as much as I should. I get it, but this, this is one time I’m not lifting a finger to help you. So you can cut the sound effects.”
There’s a soft knock at the door before the handle turns, and small hands push the door open. “Daddy, are we going to the zoo?”
Tears have started to roll down Harry’s cheeks. He wipes his face and sniffs before Poppy comes in. “Yes, baby girl, but give Daddy a minute. Go play nice in your room. I’ll come to get you when it’s time. And Poppy, please wait to be invited in before opening the door. You know the rules.”
“Okay.” Satisfied, she pulls the door closed.
"You see that, Y/N. Our kids need us. Our kids know when something's wrong. They heard our shouting earlier. We can't do this around them." He stands and walks over to her. "Listen, let me call Mitch and Sarah, and see if they can take them for the night, yeah? Or Jeff and Glenne might not mind, then we'll get dressed, go have a nice dinner, come home, and relax, just the two of us.”
“Why so you can get laid, Harry?”
"Y/N, where is all of this coming from? That's the second time you've remarked that I’m somehow this sex-crazed maniac that has to jump through hoops to trick his wife into having sex with him, yet you also say there is no way I could still want you.”
She shoves sneakers into the suitcase. “Oh, believe me, I know you can find someone to have sex with, no doubt about that." She shakes her head and smirks. "Never had any problem getting that, did you?"
“What is wrong with you? Do you think I’ve been with someone else? Is that what’s got you like this?”
She continues throwing things in the suitcase, then zips it up. She returns to the closet, retrieves another bag, unzips it, kicks it along the floor, and continues packing. “I told you. I can’t do it anymore. I’m tired. I’m forgetful because I’m overwhelmed. Important things aren’t given their proper attention. I mess up more often than I will admit. This isn’t good.”
“If this is about going out of town on that girls’ trip, then go.” He extends his foot and closes the top of the luggage. “Have fun. Go, but don’t ruin our family just because you weren’t getting your way.”
“Fuck you, Harry. Because I wasn’t getting my way? It’s not that. It’s that it’s always about you. Always. It’s when are you leaving, when are you coming back, coming in late from the studio, FaceTiming at 3 AM just so I can see you and hear your voice, important events, meetings, everything is about you, and I'm sick of it. You know you're the one that wanted a third baby, or hell, a second baby, for that matter. I was happy when it was just the three of us, all traveling together, but you wanted a larger family, and as usual, I wanted to give you what you wanted.”
He stands next to her, reaches over and takes her face in his hands, and turns her toward him. He sees her face, but she’s a stranger. He hadn’t noticed the new lines between her eyebrows, the dark circles under her eyes, or the sallow shade of her skin. “Tell me you don't regret Poppy and Lola. Please tell me you don't regret those two perfect little girls. Because I love you, Y/N, but if you tell me you regret them, I can't forgive you. Ever.”
She pulls away. "I do regret the timing. I should've insisted you take a multi-year hiatus before expanding our family because I made my life worse to make your life better."
He drops his hands from her and walks across the room to the window, which overlooks the expansive garden below. “Worse? How could anything about those babies make your life worse? Take it back before I say something that can’t be unsaid.” You knew what you were signing up for, Y/N. You knew the life I live and how hard it would be, but you said ‘I do’, you agreed this was the life we would live,” he says.
“You don’t see that even then, it was about you. It was what I agreed to, but what about me? What did you agree to do for me? What sacrifices were you willing to make? I gave up my career, so I could give you a home, take care of the kids, and always be available to support you in anything you needed me to support you in, travel with you." Sitting on the bed, she shoves her legs into her denim flares and stands. She walks over to the dresser and retrieves a black sports bra.
Harry turns to her. "Okay, what do you need? What do you need my support with? Besides the house, the kids? What is it that you’re missing?
She removes her t-shirt and puts on the bra. "Everything."
“You've got to give me specifics, love. Have to help me here, at least with this. I can't read minds, baby. Believe me, if I could, this wouldn't be happening." He walks to her.
She pulls on a lightweight black sweater. "I need you to know me, Harry.” She goes back to the luggage, bends down, and zips closed the second bag. “I needed you to pay attention, to see that I’m drowning here.”
"Okay. We'll have the maid come more days during the week, and we'll get a sitter, nanny, or whatever will make life easier for you. After the three nights in Manchester, I'll devote my time to you. But I have a contract I have to do these nights in Manchester, besides it’s kind of home. We can stay at Mum’s. All of us go together.”
“It’s not just about the housework or the kids. And I don’t want to follow you to Manchester. I need you. I need a husband, a partner, not a sugar daddy who keeps knocking me up.”
“Oh, get off it. Lola's over a year old, and never do I push you for sex, not ever.”
“Whatever.” She pulls the two suitcases upright, rolls them to the door, exits, walks down the hall, and passes the three bedrooms along the corridor. She can't stop, or she'll never go; if she stays, she'll make things worse. She knows she's on the brink of breaking completely.
Harry is behind her.
They make it to the front door, and she slides her feet into her loafers. As she opens the door, she turns to him. "Everything you need to know about your kids is in a folder on my desk in the office. There’s frozen milk in the fridge.”
He reaches out, but she shakes her head. “Don’t.” She snatches her purse from the hook by the front door.
"Y/N, please, baby."
"Goodbye, Harry." With that, she steps out, dragging the luggage behind her. She doesn't look back.

BUY ME PRESENTS. harry potter
( master list )
IN WHICH… Y/N L/N’s situationship, Matteo Riddle, isn’t the best boyfriend material and when he forgets to buy her a Christmas present, she finally breaks it off. Luckily, she knows someone who’ll do everything Matteo didn’t.
“Some guys get the girl everybody wants and forget she’s still the girl everybody wants.”
MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS! - 25/12/2023
Warning: Matteo and Y/N kinda swear a lot, oh well
“It's a packed holiday and I got options, babe. If you don't wanna buy me presents. Drink me like a warm glass of milk
Tumblr media
If you're not gonna race here from the North Pole to Beverly Hills. Just to keep my stocking filled. Well, I know somebody who will.”
Christmas and winter was a big deal at Hogwarts. Long strings of tinsel littered the stone hallways and shiny, delicate ornaments were hung up everywhere.
A H/C-haired girl rocked back and forth on her heels as she waited outside the Slytherin common room. She sighed, clicking her tongue. “What’s taking him so long?” She whispered under her breath.
Matteo was usually one to be late, but not on important days. Today was Christmas for goodness sake, Y/N’s favorite holiday.
Finally, the door to the common room slid open and Matteo walked out. His white shirt was messily tucked into his pants and the top few buttons were undone, irking Y/N who always looked perfect.
“Yo, Clarisse said you wanted to talk to me. Shoot.” Matteo shoved his hands into his pockets while Y/N lightly scoffed.
“Did you forget what day it is?” She questioned, arching an eyebrow. If the present in her hand didn’t give it away then she didn’t know what else would.
“Monday?”
“It’s Christmas, Matteo.” Y/N uttered, “Does that jog your memory?”
“Oh, yeah. I just woke up so I’m still dazed.”
Y/N could smell the cigarette smoke in his breath. “Or stoned. Why are you still smoking? You know how I hate it.”
Matteo carelessly shrugged. “It relieves stress, babe. I am quitting. Just give me like, two more months and I’ll be done.”
Y/N bit back a snarky retort. He always said he was quitting but he never actually did. “Well, anyway, I got you a gift. Merry Christmas, Matt.” She held the box up, smiling.
Matteo slowly took it. He opened the lid, his eyebrows raising at what was inside. “You got me… something from Vivienne Westwood?” It was clear that Matteo wasn’t as rich as his Slytherin friends were. With no parents or caretaker, all he could do was leech off people.
“It’s a lighter. You never light the candles in your room, which is… weird because that’s what they’re for. But, I guess you can use it to light cigars too. I also overheard Draco complaining about how he doesn’t have that but wants it. You can fit in with your friends with it.” Y/N shrugged.
“Jeez. This must’ve cost a lot.” Matteo held the lighter in his hand, whistling at how it shined. “Fucking hell.”
“Hey, Matty, we’re gonna open presents. You joining us?” A slim blond girl peeked her head out of the common room, grinning. “I got you a real good present this time.”
“You’re too sweet, Lina. I’ll be in a minute. I think you’ll like your present too.” Matteo chuckled before he glanced back at Y/N. “What are you still doing here?”
“What? No present for me?” Y/N said it in a joking manner to hide the pit she felt in her stomach.
“Why would I get you something?”
Y/N lightly scoffed. “I don’t know, Matteo. Maybe because we’ve been seeing each other for the past year?”
“Hey. We haven’t been seeing each other. I just find you when I want a good fuck. Know your place, Y/N. It’s not like we’re dating.”
Y/N sharply clicked her tongue in annoyance. “Right.” She sarcastically smiled, “What was I thinking? My place is obviously to be at your beck and call. My apologies for the mixup. Have a good day, Matteo.”
Y/N spun around, walking away. She heard Matteo laugh in disbelief and one part of her wished he would run after her and hand her a gift. He didn’t. He strutted back into the Slytherin chamber and back to those insufferable girls.
Y/N sat on the stairs amongst the green, red, and white decorations, staring at the ground. She was clad in a short black and white fur blazer and a skirt. Fleece leggings lined her legs, keeping her warm, and she had her Ravenclaw scarf wrapped around her neck.
She lightly sniffled, playing with a silver bracelet her friend had given to her as an early present. She wasn’t too sure what she was upset about right now.
Perhaps it was because she was lonely in the Ravenclaw common room. Everybody was gone, not even her study partner had stayed behind this year. Or maybe it was because of a certain brown-haired boy who was as heartless and oblivious as always.
It was most likely the latter.
Y/N wanted to feel happy, especially since today was Christmas, a holiday she enjoyed a little too much. But with no friends to laugh with, no family to return to, and not even a boy to sit next to the fire with, she felt sad.
“Are you actually crying?”
Y/N hadn’t even noticed Matteo approach her until it was too late. At least he had thought twice before leaving her alone.
He stood in front of her, fiddling with the multiple rings that adorned his long fingers. “Seriously, Y/N? Just because I didn’t get you a Christmas gift?”
Y/N glared up at him. “Can you try being nice for one second? Who knows, you might like it.” Throughout the whole year, Matteo and Y/N had something going on. They were never in a confirmed relationship but they weren’t merely friends either.
Though, in the past few months, the two couldn’t seem to stop bantering.
“Look, I’ll get you a gift tomorrow. Happy?”
Y/N quietly scoffed as she stood up. “No. You always forget things like these, Matteo. It’s getting annoying.” Y/N turned around to walk up the stairs but she barely took two steps before Matteo grabbed her wrist.
“Where are you going? I thought we were going to spend Christmas together.”
Y/N tauntingly raised an eyebrow at Matteo. “You were giving me the silent treatment up until now. I had to bribe that girl, Clair or whatever her name was, to let me see you.”
“Her name is Clarisse.” Matteo corrected her.
Y/N stared at him, wondering how he thought it was a good time to correct her. “What? I’m trying to make a point here and you’re concerned about her name? Unbelievable. Maybe I should find some people who actually enjoy my presence.”
Matteo sneered. “So, what? You just gonna go back to that Potter boy? You’re leading him on, Y/N. We both know your heart belongs to me.”
“Belonged.” Y/N corrected him, “Past tense. This thing we have between us is done. I’m not going to be a stupid late night call for you anymore.” She forced Matteo to let go of her and walked away, ignoring his shouts that echoed around the corridors.
“I taught you everything! I taught you how to stand up for yourself! I made you popular! I practically created you from nothing!” Matteo angrily exclaimed at the bottom of the steps. “You can’t leave me!”
Y/N glanced over her shoulder at the enraged brunette. She smiled. “Watch me.”
The last thing Y/N heard Matteo say was when he furiously shouted her name, his booming voice showcasing his fiery rage.
Y/N knocked against the Gryffindor painting, sighing. The Fat Lady seemed to notice her mood.
“What happened this time?” She asked. Matteo and Y/N were no secret; they were the talk of the school with Matteo being Voldemort’s son and Y/N’s cousin being a death-eater. A year ago, it was even rumoured she was one herself.
Y/N stared up at the Fat Lady with teary eyes. “Matteo. I… broke it off with me.”
“Oh, honey, I know it may not seem like it now, but it was the right decision.”
Y/N softly smiled. “I know… I know.”
“Are you here to see the Potter boy?”
“Yes. Is he here?” Y/N wasn’t even sure if Harry was at Hogwarts. During second year, he had gone to stay with Ron.
“Of course. And the Weasley boy and the Granger girl. They’re all here.” The Fat Lady swung backwards, smiling, “Go on, dear.”
Y/N stepped into the Gryffindor common room, looking around. “Harry? Hello? Anybody here?” The room was empty. Y/N glanced over at the crackling fire and went to sit beside it, warning her cold hands.
She quietly clicked her tongue, staring at the blazing flames.
“Y/N?” Hermione questioned, walking up behind the H/C-nette, “What’s wrong?” Y/N quickly stood up, embracing her brown-haired friend into a tight hug.
“I did it.” She whispered, “I ended things with Matt- I mean, Riddle.”
“Oh… Are you feeling okay?” Hermione gently sat Y/N down on the couch, rubbing comforting circles into her back. “Do you want anything? Any water or food?”
Y/N stared at her hands. “Is… Harry here?”
“Yeah. I’ll get him.” Hermione stood up and went to fetch the boy. “She and Matteo broke things off.” She whispered in Harry’s ear, which sent a rush of excitement through the brunette. He never did like Matteo after all. He was a playboy to put it simply. Not only that, but for the longest time Harry had liked Y/N.
Matteo didn’t appreciate her but Harry did. He could treat her better than Matteo ever could.
“Hermione told me what happened. Are you okay?” Harry sat down beside Y/N, holding a neatly wrapped present. He heard Y/N heave a sigh.
“I think… I mean, obviously I’m a little sad but it feels good knowing I won’t have to deal with his annoying ass again.” Y/N uttered, eliciting a small amused chuckle out of Harry.
“Yeah… I got you something, by the way.” Harry handed the gift over to Y/N with shaking hands.
“Oh… that’s sweet. You didn’t have to.” She smiled, carefully unwrapping the present.
“I wanted to… you said that was your favorite book so I bought you the limited edition cover one… with a bit more.”
Y/N raised her eyebrows in confusion as Harry. She slowly opened the novel to a page tabbed with a (favorite color) sticker note.
Merry Christmas, Y/N. Thank you for being such a loyal fan throughout my career.
- Your favorite author
Underneath the short message was the writer’s signature as well as a polaroid picture of Harry and the author.
“Oh my gosh… how did you… what…” Y/N was at a loss for words as she turned to Harry and tightly hugged him. “I don’t have a present for you… I’m sorry.”
Harry smiled as Y/N pulled away. “It’s fine. Having you here makes up for it.”
“Are you sure?” Y/N furrowed her brows, “I can buy you something tomorrow. Or I’m sure I have a have a golden snitch lying around here somewhere.” Y/N pulled a snitch from out of her pocket, “Remember this, Harry? You almost choked to death on it in your first game.”
“What the… how did you…” Harry was as flabbergasted as Y/N now. She laughed, handing it over to him.
“Well, after you almost swallowed it, nobody really wanted to play with it anymore. So I asked Wood to get it for me. We spent a good time cleaning it.”
Harry chuckled, staring at the small golden ball in awe. “That’s… amazing. Jeez. Riddle really doesn’t deserve you.”
Y/N’s shoulders visibly shrunk at the mentioning of the brunette’s name.
“Oh…” Harry instantly noticed, “Sorry, too soon?”
Y/N silently shook her head. “No… I’m fine…” She turned her head, beaming at Harry with a smile that made him melt. “You’re right, he didn’t deserve me. Thank you for the book, Harry. It’s wonderful.”
She embraced him once again and Harry could feel his cheeks heat up at the contact. There was a small jingle and as Y/N lifted her head, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Mistletoe floated above the pair, jingling as if to remind the two it was there. Harry gazed over Y/N’s shoulder at Ron, who held his wand in one hand and was giving Harry a thumbs up with the other.
“It’d be rude to defy the rules of Christmas, especially with how much you love it.” Harry uttered.
Y/N laughed again. “I suppose so.”
“You don’t have to kiss me for real. You can kiss me on the cheek or something or”- Harry was cut off when Y/N grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him forward and kissing him.
Harry was the complete opposite of Matteo. The Slytherin boy was rough and uncaring while Harry was soft and gentle. The brunette with glasses carefully grasped Y/N’s hands, squeezing them tightly.
“I don’t know if this is too soon, Y/N.” Harry said as he pulled away slightly. “But, I like you. I’ve liked you for ages. Ever since first year. And the only reason I didn’t like Riddle was because I hated how he had managed to attract your attention. I think you’re wonderful and you shouldn’t be stuck with someone like Riddle. You don’t have to give me your answer now… but just consider it.”
Y/N gazed at Harry, her heart doing flips in her chest. This was a feeling she hadn’t felt in a long time. She shyly adverted her eyes. “I… I don’t know what to say Harry. I think I like you too… but I feel like it’s too soon.”
“I don’t mind waiting. I just need you to know that I’m willing to race here from the North Pole to Beverly Hills. Just to keep your stocking filled.”
Y/N giggled. “That’s cute, Harry.” She leaned forward, pressing another chaste kiss to his lips. “Merry Christmas, Harry.”
START OF TERM (BONUS)…
“What the fuck, asshole?!” Matteo’s loud shout caused the Great Hall to fall into silence. They all watched as he stormed towards the Gryffindor table, slamming his hands in front of Harry. “You kissed my girl!” He exclaimed.
Y/N turned her head, staring at Matteo with furrowed eyebrows.
“What’s going on?” Her friend tugged on her sleeve.
“I’m… not sure.” Y/N replied, craning to get a better look.
“What are you talking about, Riddle?” Harry asked, confused.
“You know who the fuck I’m talking about! Y/N fucking L/N! You kissed her!” Matteo was getting angrier by the second.
“Hey, dude, relax.” Lorenzo grabbed Matteo by the shoulders, forcing him out of the Great Hall. The rest of his friend group followed.
Y/N sighed, standing up. “I’m going to talk to Matteo.” She announced.
“What? Are you crazy?” Her friend tried to get Y/N to sit back down again.
“He deserves an explanation… and I also want to make it clear that we’re no longer a thing.” Y/N followed after the Slytherin gang and jogged to walk beside Pansy, who was lagging behind.
“What’s gotten into him?” Y/N questioned Pansy, who seemed to like her the best out of all the girls Matteo hooked up with.
“I don’t know.” Pansy sighed, “He just started acting mental after he found out you and Potter were going out. But, he doesn’t really deserve to be mad when it’s his fault.”
“Matt, dude, what’s gotten into you?” Theodore asked as Matteo silently seethed.
“I fucking hate Potter.” He uttered through gritted teeth. He looked up, spotting Y/N. Instantly, the fire in his eyes disappeared.
“Riddle.” Y/N greeted him calmly, nodding her head in acknowledgment. “There seems to be a misunderstanding.”
“Why did you kiss Potter?” Matteo demanded, clenching his hands into fists.
“Why can’t I? I’m free to do whatever I want. After all, it’s not like we’re dating, right? You said it yourself.”
Matteo angrily exhaled.
“Besides, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna kill me, Matteo?” Y/N taunted. “Like you said last year because you didn’t want to commit to someone? Instead of committing to a girl, you would rather kill her?”
“It was a joke!”
“Jokes are supposed to be funny! Fuck you, Matteo! You piece of shit!”
Matteo, in a surge of rage, grabbed Y/N by the collar. Lorenzo stepped forward to interrupt the situation, but Harry beat him to it.
“Don’t touch her.” Harry glowered at Matteo as he pulled Y/N away from his grasp. “You made your choice. Deal with it because it’s your fault you lost Y/N in the first place.”
Y/N sighed, brushing the wrinkles out of her blouse. “I hope we can talk again under better circumstances, Riddle. Good day.”
Y/N walked off and Harry followed close behind.
“How good did that feel?” He questioned, grinning.
“It felt amazing!” Y/N grinned, “I can’t believe I just sweared at the Matteo Riddle and got away with it.”
“So, what do you say we have some fruitcakes and figgy pudding to celebrate?” Harry slung an arm around Y/N’s shoulder while she playfully scoffed.
“It’s January, Harry.”
“Yeah? So? It’s never too early to celebrate Christmas.”

cute moments i imagine with peter pt. 1!
pairing: peter parker x reader
wc: 2119
a/n: this is my first post pls be nice :( i have lots of cute n random moments i think about revolving around peter. one of them being abt him buying u a lego set only for him to build it and u to keep the finished product. i listened to new home (slowed) by austin farwell while making this and u should too! this was supposed to be a blurb thing but ig not- i hope you like it :)
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
“okayyy, my turn!”
you’re even more excited when it comes down to peter’s beaming smile staring right at you, and you can’t help but return his contagious smile. you find yourself sitting in a circle on the floor among your dearest and closest friends on a friday night. ned, betty, mj, harry, and peter all join you for a little gathering you held for your birthday.
you peer down at his perfectly wrapped gift; baby pink paper with tiny red ‘happy birthday!’ messages printed across the wrapping with a large white and dramatic ribbon on top conceals what you assume will be the best gift of the night. not because of how adorable the present set in front of you looks, but because it’s from peter. you love anything and everything from peter.
you delicately lift the big rectangular box to your ear and lightly shake it, wondering what it could be as a curious expression paints your face. peter sits directly across from you with his ankles crossed and knees to his chest as his buff arms embrace himself.
“did you get her one of those DIY craft mug kits, peter? god forbid she gets another mug to add to her hoarder collection” ned quips with a mouthful of pizza. “shut up, dude, i didn’t” he whispers.
peter knows you’re touchy about the stockpile on your mugs. you enjoy the witty quotes and funny faces of tv star celebrities plastered on your coffee cups.
“actually, no he’s right. i tried getting a glass from your cupboard the other day cause i was thirsty and a fucking mug fell out and shattered right next to me. the mugs in your cabinets are overflowing, it's a safety hazard” harry shakes his head in disapproval. mj remarks “since when do you care about safety-” “that was you?!” you shriek, wide-eyed. “you owe me a new ‘worlds best boss’ cup.” “what? i could have died!-”
“okay! just open it” peter smiles. a soft crimson flush covers his cheeks, obviously flustered with you and harry’s bickering. harry roll his eyes and pouts while he crosses his arms as everyone stares back at you.
you turn your attention back to the mysterious gift before you. hesitantly, you untie the silk ribbon as it falls flat against the ground. you find yourself failing to hold back your blushing smile, nerves rush through your body and your excitement begins to increase. you carefully peel back the pretty wrapping paper as if you’d like to keep that too. soon enough, the box revealed has you gasping, eyes widening at the sight in front of you.
“oh my- god! oh my god!” you squeal, rushing to unveil the entire box. once finally uncovered, you hold it up in front of you in awe. some of your friends gaze at the present confused as your eyebrows furrow in an attempt not to cry and your lips turn downward slightly.
for a second, peter thinks you’re discontent with his gift, but it quickly fades as he understands your expression. you glance back at him; you think he’s so beautiful like this. with his eyes crinkling because of his wide smile stretched across his face, he relishes the moment, proud that he’s the reason he makes you feel like this.
you sniffle and quickly drag your knees across the carpeted floor with your large gift barely holding on in your left hand. peter brings his knees to his sides and opens his arms as you fall into him. you feel his strong arms wrap around you, yours linked around his neck and peter begins to fall backward, with you laying flat against his chest. yours and peter’s giggles fill the room and you forget that it's not just the two of you in that room. peter doesn’t even seem to struggle with the fact that your entire body weight rests on top of him.
his gentle and loving dark eyes gaze into yours and it tells you everything you ever needed to know. you are so unconditionally in love with him as he is with you. your faces are leveled perfectly against each other and you can see everything up close; though it’s nothing you’ve never seen before. his long thick lashes, his smile lines, his funky left eyebrow, his soft freckles across his nose and cheeks; you would count every single one of them if he’d let you. peter lifts his fingers to brush a strand of hair behind your ear.
a loud cough interrupts you two.
you’re quick to roll off of him and plop on the space beside him. “what is it?” betty questions. you quickly glance around the circle, not missing mj’s knowing small smile and raised eyebrows.
ned and harry gasp. you show your gift off to everyone, “it’s a lego set!” you excitedly beam. mj and betty give you adoring smiles. you gleam back at peter, “i’ve been wanting this for forever” you gush, “how’d you know?”
“when my laptop broke down and you let me use yours,” he begins, “i wasn’t trying to peek but you had like a million tabs open- which you really shouldn’t because it could lead to a lot of technical problems down the road with your comput-” “you wanna talk about computers breaking down?” peter squints down back at you. “that’s beside the point, anyways, you had a bunch of sites of those flower bouquet lego sets up and i figured you might’ve wanted one,” he answers. “also every time we stop by at barnes and nobles you rush to the toys section for the legos and talk about how you’ve always wanted one so…”
you roll your eyes and continue to grin down at your present. you hold it close to your chest. “i love it.”
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
ned and harry were already out the door when betty and mj began to say their goodbyes. “we’ll see you at lunch tomorrow right? to study for chem?” “sure, betty. i’ll see you guys later. thanks for coming” you smile at them. betty waves at you as she catches up with ned and harry while mj tugs down at your wrist, “so, you and peter huh?” she smirks. you hate how observant she gets sometimes.
“it’s nothing.” “uh huh” “mj!” “i’m just saying,” she shrugs. “you and peter look really cute together, and i’m happy for you two. i could tell he really likes you.”
you appreciate her comment. mj hates to show affection lots of the time, so it means a lot to you when she does. “thanks em.” you hug her goodbye, while all mj sports is a soft double pat on your back and you laugh at her “go home.” she laughs back at you and turns on her heel, “bye!”
you lock your front door and walk back into your surprisingly tidy kitchen. peter stands at your sink drying the last dish and placing it back into your cabinets as he turns around only to find you staring back at him in amusement. “what?” you shake your head at his innocent smile. the side of his hip leans against your stove and you take a few steps towards him and link your arms around his neck. he cranes his neck down for you to reach him more easily.
you place a gentle kiss on the corner of his mouth, “you didn’t have to get me anything, pete.” his free arm wraps around your waist and turns you so your back is facing the stove, and his body cages yours. he smiles into the needy kiss he plants against your lips; one that was suppressed for your friend’s sake of finding out that the two of you are in a relationship. you and peter are still finding the right time to tell them.
peter hums into your mouth when your hands find their way to his hair and lightly pull on it. “you don’t know how badly i wanted to get it for you. you can finally have a plant that won’t die on you” he smirks. “hey!” your hand lightly slaps his broad chest. “my plants survive.” “sure, babe.”
an idea flashes into your mind as your eyes sparkle with excitement and it piques peter’s interest in whatever you’re thinking.
“wanna help me build it?” his eyebrows raise at your request. you know he wants to. after you, peter loves his legos. you giggle as he fervently nods his head and follows you to your room.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
and that is how you and peter end up sprawled across your room with the empire strikes back playing on your tv. you’re lying stomach-down on your soft mattress with your chin resting on your laced fingers as you stare at peter on the floor, working on building your flower bouquet.
you couldn’t care less about the movie, you’ve watched it about a hundred times with peter around already. instead, you’d rather watch your boyfriend, working so hard and determined on the lego set. you can’t even see his eyes but you can tell his brows are furrowed and see the tip of his tongue sticking out in concentration.
when you asked him to help you build it, you did not exactly mean for him to take over it entirely. but within the first ten minutes of unpacking and assembling, you started to get overwhelmed with how many pieces there were. you tried your best starting with the daisies while peter went on to work on the lavenders but you soon got bored of building it. peter happily took over for you since he was already finished building his flower. “go rest,” he mumbled and kisses you on the side of your forehead; he moves over to your spot and finishes what you started.
that explains your current position. the star wars movie is close to the climax and you find it funny how legos can completely distract your boyfriend from his all-time favorite movie; sometimes you struggle in capturing his full attention when this movie plays on the screen.
“aaaand done!” he presents your gift in the air with a proud smile on his face. you take a mental picture and keep it engrained in your mind forever. peter already took the liberty of taking one of your empty vases lying around your room and filling it with your new flowers, but not before asking what happened to the plant that lived in there previously with a raised eyebrow to which you just pouted and cluelessly shrugged your shoulders at.
you squeal in excitement as you clamber off your bed, taking the bouquet into your own hands and placing it on the cleared space on your desk.
you stare and admire his generous gift for you and your heart bursts at the seams. you let out a content sigh, “it’s perfect.”
you swiftly turn around to face him and he’s staring at you with a loving smile, “you are perfect,” you compliment. shuffling towards him, you stand on your tiptoes as your warm hands cover his soft cheeks, his arms around your waist. your plump lips meet his chapped ones again to which he eagerly returns. the kisses you two share are deep, held with so much emotion and affection for one another, it makes it hard for you to believe peter is really yours.
he pulls back breathlessly, “i love you, y/n/n.” you blush and kiss him back, walking him backward until the back of his legs hit your bed frame and he sits.
you crawl on top of him as he lays down completely against your cushy mattress. you lean down towards his face while sitting in his lap, his hands find their home on your hips gently. peter’s adoring smile grows as you pepper his face with smothering kisses. soft giggles leave his pink lips. with the way he gasps for air, it sounds like he drowning in affection from you. he squeezes your hips as he gets overwhelmed with your kisses, and you think you can feel your heart getting bigger by the second.
you take a moment to pause and catch your breath, peter too. it’s close to the middle of the night; the movie is far along into the credits and long forgotten. you and peter start to realize how exhausted you guys are, mirroring each other's yawn. you slide down beside him with your right leg hooked around his waist, palm against his chest with your head laying in the crook of his neck. you place a feather-like kiss under his jaw, and you see him rest his eyes in peace as you mumble back, “i love you.”

MASTERLIST | Please rb to share!
The sound of hot milk pouring into the ceramic cups was music to Harry's ears. He stirred some hot chocolate in the pair of cups, the saucepan long forgotten to be put in the sink. Hooking his fingers through the cup handles, he turned around and started walking to the living room with a hop in his steps -- the Christmas ambience that Y/n had put on adding to his mood.
"Here you go," he said while handing one of the cups to his best friend, who's glasses were pushed high up the bridge of her nose as she wrapped the gifts scattered on his dining table. "Of course, darling! You're welcome," he sarcastically exclaimed after a while at the lack of appreciation from her.
Their families were out and about to attend a friend's wedding anniversary party, and Y/n had come over at Harry's when she got his call begging her to come over and help him wrap the presents. If she had known that by 'help' he'd meant that she would literally be wrapping all of his presents, she wouldn't have gotten all of her stationary and brought her own gifts to wrap at his place, in the first place.
Y/n looked up at him with a glare in her eyes. "I'm sat here, wrapping not just mine but your presents also, since hours! Did you say, 'thank you' to me, once?" She shouted at him, slapping his arm repeatedly.
"It's not my fault you're so slow," Harry grumbled under his breath, a smile slipping from the grasp of his dimpled cheeks when she gasped loudly.
Pushing the chair behind her, Y/n stood up as if about to kill him. "How dare you -- You little piece of absolute shit!" She shouted again, betrayed. "Wrap your own fucking presents, a-and drink my hot-chocolate too! I'm leaving!" She slammed the scissors down on the wooden table before she could stab Harry with them and turned, not actually wanting to leave because the first sip of that hot chocolate had her forgetting of all her troubles.
"Y/n, y/n!" He scrambled to get up, dropping the roll of gift-wrapping papers in the process. "I'm sorry and I'm- I- Oh Jesus! I thank you!" He stuttered, standing tall in front of her so she wouldn't escape him. His hold on her elbow was still tight and with the way she was looking at him with her big eyes, Harry wished they were standing under a mistletoe right then and there.
A spurt of laughter fell from her mouth, catching Harry off-guard. "Of course, darling! You're welcome!" She laughed, ridding her arm of his hold and molding her body against his in a hug, unable to stop her laughter when she felt how rigid his body was.
"I fuckin' hate you," Harry chuckled, hugging her back and swaying them side to side.
His eyes landed on the Christmas tree in the corner, seeming to be glittering with the way he and Y/n had decorated the tree with flickering lights. He took in a deep breath, resting his head in the crook of her neck. How perfect this moment was, with Y/n in his arms wearing a sweater matching to his, and the holiday coziness.
"Harry?" He heard her call to him softly and his cheeks flushed in his dream. "Harry!" She shouted, and he jerked back only to find her chuckling. "Where did you get lost?" She asked, not really looking for an answer as she silently walked back to the dining table, sitting on the chair that had now lost its warmth, and began humming along with whatever tune that was playing on the TV.
Her heart was beating loudly in her chest, and she feared that he was going to hear it. Her breathing was a bit heavy, as if she'd walked up a few stairs. "By what time are they going to be back, again?" She asked Harry, who had yet to sit back at his spot, to calm her nerves and get things back to normal again.
"Should be here in an hour or so," he mumbled, and Y/n could tell he was feeling just as conflicted as she was. "I'll be back in a minute," he told her before she heard him climb up the stairs to his room.
She dropped the scissors and slumped on the table, feeling too many things at once. She had no idea how much longer she could act like her heart didn't beat differently whenever he was around, like current didn't move through her body in waves whenever he so much so looked at her in a way, she'd seen him look at sunrises.
Breathing in and out a few times, she pushed the thought to the back of her mind before switching to play some cheery Christmas carols instead. Just in time, she heard Harry coming back down and went back to wrapping the present she had gotten for Anne.
"Here," Harry passed her a CD. "We'll watch this after dinner, on the sofa."
It was a CD of the musical, 'The Nightmare Before Christmas', and Y/n smiled looking down at it. It was a tradition they shared, to watch the movie every year during the Christmas break when they were back home. She looked up to nod at him, before grabbing a hold of her hot chocolate which had gone cold by now.
"Do I microwave it," Harry asked her when he saw her face retreat in distaste from the mug. Laughing, he picked both of the mugs and went to the kitchen. "Do you want a refill of marshmallows?" He shouted from there, already chucking some in his mug.
"Of course, yes I do, Harry!" She laughed, shaking her head. She started singing along to Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' and heard Harry soon catch up with her. He walked out of the kitchen with their mugs in his hands, singing with exaugurated expressions on his face.
She giggled in the midst of her singing but Harry never stopped.
"Oh, I won't ask for much this Christmas,
I won't even wish for snow.
I'm just gonna keep on waiting,
Underneath the mistletoe."
Harry sang, and the both of them avoided the awkwardness to swim its way back between them as they sang at the top of their lungs, with their heads thrown back.
"All I want for Christmas is you, baby. All I want, all I really want is you!" The both of them shouted, singing the last line; their faces flushed and tears of utter joy moistening their eyes.
With their hot chocolates gone cold all over again, they knew that they'll be putting up mistletoes in their houses at whichever spot they found -- that they'll be waiting for any and every opportunity they'd get to make the other one their own to take care of, romantically.
Harry sat down to actually try and wrap some presents with his future-wifey (as he likes to think) because if Anne were to find out that Y/n wrapped them all on her own, he would probably not get his presents from her. Y/n, on the other hand, kept on humming the same tune over and over again, but the lyric that was playing inside her mind was the one saying that she would keep on waiting underneath the mistletoe.

Happy pride! Do you have more gryffindor draco or more slytherin harry? Thanks so much!
a continuation of 1 2 3 4 5
Hogsmeade is brilliant.
It's like Diagon Alley, but cozier, and brighter. He wants to duck into every shop they pass, but Agnesa's hand on his shoulder prevents him from straying.
"Pick up the pace," she says, but her voice isn't irritated. "If we have time, we can stop for some butterbeers on the way back."
"What's a butterbeer?" he asks, hurrying up to keep up with her long strides.
"You'll like them," she says, guiding him into a shop that has a purple storefront and large tinted windows.
There are racks and racks of clothes, more like a muggle store than the place he'd gotten his Hogwarts uniforms. The door has barely closed behind them when a familiar voice says, "Oh, is there a ball going on? I hadn't known."
Agnesa's eyes narrow, the meanest Harry has seen her look since she'd had to take points away from two third years. "It's called dressing for the occasion, Percival, although I suppose your lack of occasions would leave your education equally lacking."
Ron's older brother sniffs, subtly lifting his nose. "Well, you are the expert in a lacking education if your arithmancy scores are anything to go by."
Her smile now has teeth and Harry really wishes she wasn't blocking the door. He doesn't totally understand what they're saying, but it doesn't sound nice and it doesn't look nice and he'd really like to be anywhere else. "Surely it's your own arithmancy that needs a polish, since your conveniently forgetting that my cumulative score was higher than yours."
"It was," Percy says, letting the pause drag on a touch too long before adding, "Cumulatively."
Agnesa raises her hands to her hips, her many bracelets jangling ominously.
Percy's frown softens. "Harry, are you alright?"
"What?" Agnesa looks down and her arms drop back down to her sides. "You're not looking great. Are you feeling okay? Do you have a stomach ache?"
She presses the back of her hand against his forehead as if checking for a fever. He's never experienced it himself before, but he'd seen Aunt Petunia doing it to Dudley. He swallows, his mouth dry, then croaks, "No."
Her eyebrows push together and she looks towards Percy, who grimaces and says, "Ah, Harry - Agnesa and I weren't fighting."
"Yes we were," Agnesa says. Percy glares at her and her face clears while Harry does his best not to make any expression at all. "Oh no - do your aunt and uncle fight, Harry?"
Only about him.
He shakes his head.
"Watch this," she says before taking two big steps forward, winking at him, and falling backwards. Harry reaches out, but he's too far away to do anything.
"Agnesa!" Percy shouts, lunging forward to grab her around the waist. He's holding her at angle, practically dipping her in the middle of the store.
She loops her arms around his neck, grinning, and says, "Such a gentlemen. Five points to Gryffindor."
His eyes narrow and he pointedly lets go of her waist.
However, Agnesa does not let go of his neck, so she drags him with her as she falls. Percy catches himself on his elbows to keep himself from falling on top of her, but their legs are tangled together. Agnesa's hair is all messed up now, but she's grinning like she doesn't mind.
"Kids," the shopkeeper says, and Harry looks over to see an old, thin man looking at them disapprovingly over his glasses, "this is a family establishment."
Harry doesn't know what that means but Percy turns bright red and scrambles upright. Agnesa just laughs at him, holding out a hand. Percy rolls his eyes, but obligingly grabs her hand and pulls her upright.
Maybe they weren't fighting. Or not really fighting, or play fighting. It's fine. Agnesa isn't in front of the door anymore but he doesn't want to leave anymore.
"We're getting Harry a new wardrobe," Agnesa says, pulling her wand from her hair to put her hairstyle back in place with a few quick flicks. "Want to help? Teaching you to dress properly should at least pay some dividends."
"Yes, fine, but you say that like you didn't steal all my herbology notes that year," Percy says dryly.
Harry blinks. He hadn't thought about it, but Percy does dress more like a Slytherin than a Gryffindor, all complicated ties and wrinkle free and everything just so.
Maybe he and Agnesa really hadn't been fighting.
He's not exactly an expert on friendship, but theirs is the weirdest he's seen.

Broken promises
Harry Styles fanfic
Warning! Contains smut.
Tumblr media
"Oh come off it, Harry. You can't be serious!", Mark exclaimed, looking flabbergasted.
"I'm telling you, no more drinking. I promised.", Harry said, taking a slow sip of his soda, looking towards the bar.
They were hanging out at the pub as usual. It was a pub tucked away in a quiet little street, around a half hour away from London. It was the only place they had left. The only place he had left. To be normal. To feel normal. To pretend everything was the same as it was.
No one ever recognised him there. Or at least they pretended they didn't. And it was good enough for him. It was the same as he was doing. Pretending.
Mark had ordered his usual beer and was almost through with it, wondering aloud if he should order another one or switch to a gin. When Harry said he was sticking to sodas all night and every night from then on, Mark couldn't believe his ears. Bloody Harry Styles, doing everything from booze to weed to coke to everything all at once at his prime, was going stone cold sober.
"You're really good at making promises, aren't you?", his oldest friend remarked. Pretty shit at keeping them though, he thought to himself.
Harry smirked, his eyes never leaving their new-found target.
"So, are we still hanging out at the pub then? How can you be sober at a bloody pub? That's ridiculous, that is.", Mark ranted, visibly annoyed.
"Where do you propose we hang out then?", Harry prompted, knowing full well he didn't have an answer to his question.
"My place?", he asked, hopefully.
"Yeah, no thanks. Your place is full of your bloody screaming children. You know I can't stand that for more than thirty minutes at a time."
"Yeah, right. Sometimes I think you love those kids more than me.", he said, laughing.
Harry didn't reply. He was busy staring towards the bar.
Mark turned around annoyed, to finally see what his friend had been staring at for the whole time they were there. Yeah, remarkably shit at keeping promises, he thought again, realising that his friend was looking at a group of girls sitting at the bar doing shots. Staring at one particular girl.
He sighed. "Just go over there already. I have my bloody screaming children to get home to."
"Don't mind if I do", Harry said, chucking the remainder of his soda in one gulp. He picked up his glass and walked towards the bar, muttering a half-arsed goodbye to his friend.
Mark left without saying goodbye back, but Harry didn't care. Mark was as loyal as they come, and no matter what he got up to he always seemed to be able to forgive and forget.
He had gotten to the pub about ten minutes before his friend that night, which gave him plenty of time to scope out the place. It was almost empty, apart from the table with the three usual pals of the owner, who where there every day of the week, and a group of girls who were probably on a pub crawl, half of them looking already drunk.
Mark used to joke that the only thing keeping their favourite pub from closing were Harry's generous tips. Harry thought he was probably right, judging by how dead this place was on a Friday night.
He had sat at their usual corner table and ordered a soda, trying to convince himself that he was going to keep his promise. He waited patiently for Mark, whilst trying to listen in to the girl's conversation to pass the time. He was keeping his head low subconsciously, trying not to get recognised by them, as he was so used to doing, but they didn't even glance his way once.
"Next round's on me!", a petite blonde girl from the group shouted, her high voice way louder than it needed to have been.
A bunch of excited "woos" came from the rest of the girls, and they all cheers'd together when their beers arrived.
"To Jenn, for finally getting the promotion she was chasing after for fucking two whole years!", one of them said.
The blonde girl screamed excitedly, meaning she must've been Jenn.
Harry shamelessly checked them all out, one by one.
The girl named Jenn was the shortest of them all, but she screamed the loudest, and she seemed pretty drunk out of her mind already.
Vomit city, Harry thought, even though every cell of his being was yearning to be as drunk as her right now.
Next to Jenn, was another blonde, with long curly hair, blue eyes and a prominent nose. She was laughing constantly, her high-pitched laugh instantly putting Harry off, even though he thought she looked pretty hot in that short leather skirt she was wearing, contrasting her doll-like face.
Then, there was a really tall girl, probably about the same height as Harry with the heels she had on, with bright red lipstick and a white dress, light-brown curly hair and the same blue eyes as the weird laugh girl. Looks like sisters, Harry thought, and then his eyes fell to her right ring finger, where he spotted a gold band. He instantly reached for his own ring finger, absentmindedly rubbing the spot where a ring would be.
Moving on to the last girl, he thought, but he couldn't see her clearly from where he was sitting.
He waited for a bit, figuring she was bound to move around and he could catch a glimpse at her, but she was sitting pretty still.
He was staring at her all night long, while Mark was chatting away at him, blabbing about his wife wanting him to wash the dishes every night and how he was sick and tired of driving all around town to pick up his kids from some place just to take them some place else. Harry knew Mark loved doing those things, and he was just messing about, just to have something to say. Mark's life was pretty much the same every day. Harry could sense that he felt embarrassed about that, every time they got together.
When they were growing up, everyone thought Mark was going to be the one to make it. He was on his way to be a brilliant football player, everyone said so. And then he hurt his knee pretty bad one day at practice when he was 15, and he wasn't the same ever since. So he got a job at a bank, rose steadily through the ranks, got married to a plain girl, bought a plain house and had plain children. Pretty embarrassing, compared to his world famous best friend.
Harry wished he could understand how jealous of his plain life he was. And he pretended he wasn't. That's what he was best at.
The last girl was wearing high-heeled black leather boots. Black sheer tights, short black skirt or dress, he couldn't exactly tell. Toned legs underneath.
He caught a glimpse of long dark, almost black curls.
He heard her singing along to the song that was playing. Some song about sweaters. Warm, sweet voice. Decent, he thought.
He heard one of the others call her Rosie.
I like the name Rosie.
Mark had finally caught on. He told him to go over there, so Harry went. As if he was waiting for his permission.
He walked slowly towards the bar, settling across from her, asking the barman to get him another soda.
She turned around at the sound of his voice, and he could finally get a good look at her.
She had long black hair, very long indeed. It was loosely curled, and it gave her a wild look.
High-arched black full brows, verging on unkempt, but suiting her.
Piercing eyes. Almond- shaped, honey coloured, almost yellow in certain lighting. Shooting daggers at him. Feral.
Sharp jaw-line, straight nose. Gold hoop earrings.
Full, rose lips.
Rosie.
Harry was taken aback by how intimidating she looked, almost unapproachable. He took his soda in hand, ready to get back to his table, disappointed.
And then she smiled. She smiled at him. Big, beautiful, genuine smile. Reaching her eyes, making her squint, tiny lines appearing next to them.
Oh, sweet Rosie.
Harry was hooked. And so was Rosie, it seemed, cause she excused herself from the group and went around the bar to sit next to him.
"Wanna buy me a drink?", she asked, smiling that big smile of hers.
Bold.
"Don't you think you've had enough?", Harry asked, smirking back at her.
"How about I buy you one then?", she remarked.
Very bold.
Harry laughed, and motioned to his soda. "Can't. Going sober."
"Oh, that's okay.", she said, still in high spirits. "I'm Rosie. And you are?"
"I'm Harry. Nice to meet you.", he said shaking her hand. Soft, warm, hand. He held it slightly longer than necessary, but she didn't seem to mind.
"You seem a bit more together than your friends.", he said laughing, as he noticed Jenn across the bar, almost falling out of a stool.
"Oh, yeah, I can hold my drink a lot better than them.", she replied. "It's okay, though, we all deserve to let loose sometimes."
"Couldn't agree more.", he smirked.
"Wanna come back to my place?", she asked, without hesitating. Unashamed, she stared at him intently, her suggestive look emboldening him.
"Hell yes", he exclaimed. Impulsive. He shoudn't have said that.
Too late now.
She took his hand, waved goodbye to her friends, and they were gone.
Harry drove, cause she didn't have a driver's license. He was taken aback by that, asked her how old she was. She said thirty, raising her eyebrows, as if waiting for a bad reaction. Challenging him to say anything about her age.
"Twenty-nine myself.", he said, making her at ease. At least she was older than she looked. Harry didn't think he'd like younger-looking girls, and yet here he was.
They chatted absentmindedly for the whole short drive, his hand brushing against her thigh as he was changing gears. He felt goosebumps coming on his arms, every time that happened.
Electric.
They arrived at her place. She lived in a small one-bedroom apartment, with a tiny bright yellow two-seater sofa, a bookshelf overflowing with worn-looking books, two glasses and a coffee mug half-full on the coffee table next to a laptop.
Feels more like a home than my stupid mansion, Harry thought, and then smirked at his depressive thoughts.
Poor rich man.
She led him to her bed.
"Take off your clothes.", she commanded, as she sat on the bed and looked at him expectantly, taking off her boots at the same time.
"As you wish.", he said, grinning mischievously.
He had missed this part, the new, the exciting, the unknown.
"You have a lot of tattoos, Harry.", she stated, after she watched him painstakingly remove his garments one by one.
Harry chuckled nervously, running his hand through his overgrown locks, that were at that awkward length between short and long.
"Yeah, is that a problem?"
"No problem at all", she laughed and pulled him onto her on the bed. She swiftly took off her top. Harry realised she wasn't wearing a bra. How come I didn't notice that before?, he wondered to himself.
It was those eyes. He couldn't take his off of hers. They seemed to have darkened in colour, making them seem almost black now.
Lust.
He kissed her hungrily, realising instantly that that was what he was waiting for his whole life. To kiss those lips. That was his life's purpose.
Sparks were flying. Their chemistry was undeniable.
She seemed to think the same, cause she reciprocated the kiss with enthusiasm.
He took her skirt in his hands and pulled it down, taking her knickers and tights along with it carelessly, almost ripping everything apart.
He placed two fingers inside her, and she moaned loudly. He would do everything to hear her moan like that again.
He felt how wet she was, and couldn't help but smile as he was kissing her, feeling proud of himself.
She took him in her hand, her soft, warm hand. It took everything in him not to cum right then and there.
What the hell is the matter with you? You're acting like a bloody teenage virgin!, he thought, extremely annoyed at the hold she had over him. You've just bloody met the girl.
He ran his free hand through her long locks, slightly pulling at it. She seemed to like that, so he pulled even harder.
He continued to finger her, slow and fast and then slow again. He knew that drove them crazy. She was moaning even more loudly now, and he placed his hand over her mouth, laughing as he said, "You're gonna wake everybody up, babe. We don't want an audience now, do we?"
Rosie muttered, "No, we don't. This is just between you and me, babe." And then she moaned, longer and lower than before.
"You're driving me crazy.", he managed to spit out.
She reached over to her nightstand and took out a condom, passing it to him.
He removed his hand from her, and she grunted in protest.
He put the condom on as fast as he could, and climbed over her.
"I want you in me. Right. Now.", she said in between moans.
Harry obliged happily.
It was fast and it was slow all at once. He found himself stopping just to look at her for a bit. She looked even more like a wild animal now, her hair all over the place, her eyes looking at him hungrily, her fingers touching him all over, her full lips whispering his name.
Harry didn't want it to end. And yet, it was over in a matter of few minutes. Harry laid by her side whimpering. He could hear her panting, trying to catch her breath, her heart beating fast.
"That was amazing, Harry", she breathed, placing her arm on his chest, giving him a soft kiss.
"It sure as hell was, Rosie.", he agreed and heard her laughing.
Harry stayed there, staring at her bedroom ceiling, as he calmed himself down, trying to think clearly for once that evening. He had to get out of there soon.
He heard her heartbeat steadying, her breath slowing down, until she finally fell asleep.
Harry got up very quietly, trying his best not to wake her.
He put his clothes back on, and found his cellphone.
He typed a text and sent it.
"Coming home now. Not even a sip of booze, just as I promised. See you soon. x", it said.
He searched the pockets of his jeans and found what he was looking for.
The gold band that fit his right ring finger perfectly. He put it on and sighed.
He opened the door and left without a word, without a moment of hesitation, not noticing the pair of wild honey eyes looking back at him, tears threatening to spill over them.
Harry was pretty good at breaking promises.

WORD COUNT: 3.6k
SUMMARY: Harry has had a crush on Sarah's sister for a long time and this year, at the NYE party he can finally shoot his shot, because she's freshly single.
MASTERLIST | SUPPORT ME!
Tumblr media
“So, what should I bring for the party?” Harry asks as he, Sarah and Mitch enter the couple’s home following their Christmas lunch together that Harry invited them out for.
“Just yourself,” Sarah smiles.
“Booze,” Mitch says at the same time, making his friend laugh.
“Got it. And who is coming?”
The three of them walk into the kitchen as Sarah grabs a bottle of wine from the fridge to pour them all a drink. Harry climbs to a stool by the kitchen island and mumbles a thank you when she hands him his glass.
“Mostly the same people we always invite,” Mitch shrugs. “Oh, and Sarah’s sister.”
Harry almost chokes on the wine, the pair exchanging an amused look, because they expected him to react like this.
“Y-Your sister is coming? Y/N?”
“Yeah,” Sarah nods smiling. “You know, she was planning to stay home, but I can’t let her celebrate alone, not after the year she had.”
“Why? What happened?”
“Oh, you don’t know?” Sarah smirks, knowing well Harry most likely has no idea what happened to you just a few months ago. “She broke up with her boyfriend.”
“Y/N is single?” Harry’s eyes are basically popping out of his head before he tries to control his face and rephrase his reaction. “I mean, what happened with them? I thought they were doing fine.”
“The dude was an ass,” Mitch speaks up, leaning against the counter. “We don’t have proof, but I’m pretty sure he cheated on her.”
“What?!”
“Yeah, well, it wasn’t working either, so she broke up with him in… what, like October? I don’t remember,” Sarah shrugs.
“Oh, wow. They’ve been together for a long time, right?”
“Three years,” Mitch nods.
“She’s been pretty bummed, so I want to get her out of her little cave,” Sarah smiles, taking a sip from her drink.
“So she’ll be at the party,” Harry hums.
“Yeah. You two got along well, didn’t you?”
“Uh, yeah, you could… say that.”
That is an understatement and all three of them knows. To be exact, Harry fell in love with you probably the moment he laid his eyes on you at Sarah’s birthday party last year, but you were happily dating Matthew who couldn’t come to the party because of a work trip. You and Harry hit it off right away and you were inseparable the whole time, he felt like as if it wasn’t the very first time he met you, like you were good friends since forever.
Finding out that you were in a long term relationship was like a slap across his face, but he tried his best to mask his disappointment. Every time the two of you saw each other he forced himself to keep a distance, but always failed and ended up falling for you even harder. He could feel his heart breaking every time you went home to your boyfriend and he knew he should forget about you, but it was easier said than done.
But now you’re single and he’ll be seeing you again and for the first time, he won’t have to be ashamed to be pining after you.
“Just make sure you don’t drool when she arrives,” Mitch teases him, to which Harry just rolls his eyes.
He was already excited about the party, but now it feels like a second Christmas, he counts down the days until the last one of the year finally arrives. He tries to busy himself during the day and not get ready at one pm for the party that starts at seven. He watches movies, cleans the kitchen, scribble down new lyrics, but nothing keeps him occupied long enough to stop him from thinking about seeing you again.
He even stalks you online, something he never does, but this time he just cannot stop himself. Though your Instagram account doesn’t give away much. Just a handful of pictures, from the past few years, only two of them were taken exclusively of you, one at a sandy beach and another one from two Christmases away, looking cozy under the tree with all the gifts around you. There are a few with Sarah and Mitch, some photos of hills, forests and lakes, Harry remembers you told him how much you like going on hikes and exploring new places.
The last post was six months ago, four hands holding drinks meeting in the air, one single wine glass emoji as the caption.
Harry wonders if you had more posts up with your ex, photos where you kiss, where he is hugging you from behind, photos that would definitely turn him into a jealous little gremlin in an instant.
It’s past three when he finally gives up and gets ready. He takes a steamy shower, even attempts to style his hair before spending an obscene amount of time in his closet, trying to find the best outfit for the occasion.
By four he is fully clothed and ready to leave the house, even though he still has hours. He feels like a total fool, roaming around the house, pretending like his pants doesn’t feel like they are on fire.
It’s past five when his phone rings, Sarah’s smiley face appearing on the screen.
“Hey, you’re driving over, right?” she asks when he answers the call.
“Yeah. Do you need me to pick something up on my way?”
“Yes, well, not something, but someone. Y/N’s car broke down, do you think you could…”
“YES!”
“…give her a ride?” she finished chuckling at his enthusiastic response.
“Sorry,” he huffs out a laugh. “I can totally pick her up.”
“Great, you’re a lifesaver. I’ll text you her address, you think you could be there at six thirty?”
“Sure, absolutely!”
“Alright, see you two soon then.”
He fights the urge to jump around the living room like a kid. A minute later his phone chimes and as he opens the message from Sarah, he stares down at the address with never ending excitement. There’s something oddly intimate in knowing where you live, up until moments ago the two of you only existed at parties and Sarah and Mitch’s wedding with lots of people around you, but now he’ll have a glimpse of the home that’s just yours.
He has a fleeting idea of getting you flowers on his way, but that would be just way too much, this isn’t a date, though he wishes it was. He’s just picking you up to drive you to the party you both will be attending.
Parking down in front of a cozy looking townhouse he gives himself a peptalk before getting out of the car and walking up to the front door. He hears the bell ring through the house as he waits for you, a pair of high-heeled feet approaching the door in a hurry and when it flies open, Harry forgets to breathe and blink.
Because there you are, in a stunning, elegant black dress, your hair pinned up, your makeup appears natural, but he notices how glowy your skin is and you gift him with a bright smile upon seeing him on your doormat.
“Hi!” you greet him.
“Hi,” he smiles, finally putting his lungs to work.
“Let me just grab my coat and then we can leave.”
He nods as you reach to the side, taking a simple black coat off the hanger and when he sees you struggle to put it on he’s quick to help it onto your shoulders.
“Thank you, you’re such a gentleman,” you chuckle softly, grabbing your purse from the side table before stepping out and locking the door. Harry can feel himself blush, even the tip of his ears are getting hot at your simple compliment.
“You look wonderful, by the way.”
“Thank you, you cleaned up nice too,” you smile as the two of you walk back to his car. “Thank you so much for the ride, I really should buy a new car already, but it’s my first car, I’m too sentimental to get rid of it,” you sigh, buckling yourself up as Harry starts the car.
“So it’s an old friend, huh?”
“You could say that.”
The ride to Sarah and Mitch’s place is filled with comfortable small talk, catching up about what happened since the last time you saw each other, but Harry makes sure to avoid asking you about your ex. He’s not sure how you stand with that situation and the last thing he wants to do is to upset you.
Every time you laugh at something he says it feels like a victory and he just wants to hear that sound every day. He wishes his friends lived farther away so he could spend more time with you alone, but eventually you arrive to your sister’s home and the bubble pops.
“Hi sis!” you hug Sarah lovingly when you walk in, the two hosts greeting you warmly.
“So glad you’re here,” she pats your back, exchanging a knowing look.
Harry is snatched away from your side just moments after his arrival and this one time he wishes he wasn’t such a good company among his friends. But he keeps an eye on your at all times, he sees you mingling, sipping on your drink and every time you laugh at something jealousy tightens his chest.
“Dude, you promised not to drool,” Mitch teases him when he catches Harry staring at you once again.
“Fuck off,” he huffs, taking a sip from his drink.
“Just go talk to her.”
“I’m trying not to be a weirdo,” he sighs, making his friend laugh. “And I don’t want to be pushy, I don’t know if she’s over her ex already.”
“Mm, don’t be a pussy,” Mitch teases him before walking away.
Harry loses track of you for just five minutes while he uses the bathroom and when he returns you’re nowhere to be found. At first he just keeps looking, hoping you’d show up somewhere, but you never come.
“Hey, have you seen your sister?” Harry asks when he finds Sarah in the kitchen, refilling the chips bowl.
“I think I last saw her going upstairs,” she shrugs.
He lurks through the guests and makes his way upstairs, not too discreetly looking for you in every room he passes by, until he finally finds you in one of the guest bedrooms. You’re sitting on the edge of the bed your heels has been kicked off and you’re staring out the window, lost in your thoughts.
“Hey, where did you go?” he softly asks, walking over and sitting next to you.
“Ah, I just… it became a little too crowded for me,” you shrug shyly. “Wanted to have a break from the chit-chatting.”
“Do you want me to leave?” he asks, feeling like he is bothering you with his presence.
“Oh, no! That’s not what I meant,” she chuckles, her hand brushing against his knee for a second, the tiny gesture etching into his memory forever instantly. “I just lost my energy for small talk, but it’s not like that with you. I’m trying to recharge, but I wish I brought some booze with me.”
“I’ll get us something,” he offers. “I mean, if you still don’t mind having me here with you.”
“Won’t you be missed down there?” you look up at him curiously as he stands from the bed.
“They’ll survive without me,” he shrugs smiling.
“Then I would love to have your company.”
God, those words are like honey dripping from your perfect lips. He quickly makes his way down, hunting for a bottle of alcohol the two of you can share. He finds a bottle of champagne, snatches two glasses and dodges every attempt to drag him into a conversation as he returns upstairs, excitement filling his chest to have some more alone time with you.
“Oh, great!” you beam when you see him holding up the bottle and handing you a glass he pours you a drink, the fills his glass as well before the two of you settle back on the bed. “Mm, this will numb me well,” you let out a tired sigh. “Maybe I shouldn’t have come.”
“Why? You seemed like you were having a good time.”
“I’m good at masking,” you huff out a bitter laugh. “It’s just so frustrating…”
“What is?”
“Am I so boring that all people want to talk about is my exboyfriend?” you ask, surprising Harry with bringing him up. He also can’t help a tiny frown.
“Not at all,” he shakes his head, taking a sip from his drink.
“Then why did I have to dodge questions about him like a million times the past two hours? Like… I’m a person outside of Matthew, hello!”
Harry’s unsure what to say. If you asked he would tell off every single person downstairs who made you feel like this.
You look at him with a tiny smile.
“Thanks for not bringing him up.”
“I…” he starts. I’ve had my selfish reasons, he wants to say, but swallows the words. “Just wanted you to have a good time,” he ends up saying.
The champagne bottle starts to empty out and the two of you are having a private party of your own, having a blast away from all the guests. Sprawled out on the bouncy mattress you talk and laugh and play silly little games as the clock is ticking towards midnight and the new year.
You’re definitely feeling dizzy, not drunk, but the champagne has loosened you up enough to be a giggling mess. Harry is sitting with his back against the headboard while you’re lounging across the bed, your legs tangled with his.
“Ah, I missed this,” you let out a pleased sigh.
“Missed what?”
“Having fun,” you huff out a laugh. “It’s been a bitter few months.”
“We can hang out more,” Harry suggests, his hands reaching out, gently massaging your calf. He’s been fighting the urge for a while, but he feels like you’re comfortable in your little bubble enough to allow this physical contact. You don’t move away, even let a tiny moan slip through your lips at the pressure of his touch and pride fills his chest.
“Be careful, I might end up at your doorstep every single day,” you joke.
“Feel free to do so,” he replies, fully meaning his words.
Your head rolls to the side to look at him, a soft smile stretched across your face as you blink at him lazily.
“Wouldn’t want to bother you.”
“Impossible.”
“What about when you’d want to be with a woman? Go on dates?”
“I don’t do that,” he shrugs.
“I don’t believe you,” you grin at him. “There’s no way you’re not dating supermodels and movie stars…”
“Oh, but I’m not,” he chuckles, his eyes fixated on his hands working on your calves.
“Come on! You gotta have a crush on some insanely gorgeous woman!” you tease him more, but
“It’s you,” he blurts it out, his honesty surprising the both of you. “I have a crush on you,” he then adds.
His eyes shyly move up to meet your gaze, but your face is too blank to read anything off of it as you blink back at him, lips slightly parted. A minute passes by and he starts to regret that he couldn’t hold his tongue. You then push yourself up into a sitting position, eyes still glued to his face.
“Really?” is all you say when you finally break the silence.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have just blurted it out.”
“No, it’s… I just…” It’s hard to find the right words and Harry is patient with you, but a knock is heard on the door and he almost curses out whoever is on the other side.
“Hello? Are you guys in here?” Sarah’s head pops in before the rest of her body follows, taking in the sight of the two of you on the bed. “Hey, ten minutes until midnight. Are you guys joining us?”
“Yeah,” you nod, sounding breathless and Harry can feel himself deflating. The moment is gone, you know he is into you, but your reaction wasn’t quite what he was expecting.
He watches you climb off the bed and is sure you’ll just walk out with your sister, leaving him behind, but when you put your heels back on you turn to him with a warm smile.
“Come on, we can’t miss the countdown.”
He’s stunned at your friendly behavior, but he just nods and follows you, the three of you returning to the rest of the guests downstairs. The party is buzzing, everyone is excited to greet the new year, but Harry can only care about you. Both of you get a flute of champagne and standing in the corner of the room, you’re a bit awkwardly wait for the countdown to start.
Then the last ten seconds arrive and Harry’s mind is racing more than ever. Where do you stand? Did he ruin everything? You won’t even want to be friends with him? After all the pining, is this really how he had to admit his feelings to you?
He hates how quiet you are next to him, how he has no idea what you wanted to say before Sarah arrived and he would kill to read your mind.
“Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven!...”
He bites the inside of his cheeks, nervously switching his weight from one leg to the other, staring ahead of him.
“Six! Five! Four!”
He can faintly hear you take a deep breath and from the corner of his eyes he can see you turn towards him. Your gazes meet and his heart is brutally hammering in his chest when your eyes flicker down to his lips for a split second.
“Three! Two! One! Happy New Year!”
There’s a heartbeat of hesitation in you before you splurge forward and press your lips against his, only to pull back almost immediately, afraid that you did something wrong. But Harry is quick to silence your worries when his hand grabs the back of your neck and he pulls you back in for a lot longer and more passionate kiss that the previous one.
He grins against your lips when he hears someone cheer on the two of you, judging from the voice it’s Mitch, but Harry doesn’t bother to check, he’s way too busy kissing you over and over again. He never even plans to stop, but you shriek out a laugh when he accidentally spills some of his champagne on you while trying to wrap his arms around your waist, coordinating with the flute in his hand.
“Oh shit, I’m sorry,” he gasps, placing the glass to the nearest surface instantly before he could pour more on you.
“It’s okay,” you chuckle, wiping the fabric with your hand on your hip.
“I got a little… carried away,” he breathes out with a smirk, but you just shake your head grinning up at him, your gaze lacing together with his once more and before you could even think about your actions, you push closer to him and kiss him. You simply can’t stop, you need to be touching and kissing him as if you could die if you took even just a step away from him.
For the rest of the evening the two of you turn into giddy teenagers. Not wanting to be rude you stay downstairs with the rest of the guest, mingling feels easies for Harry with you by his side. He keeps a hand on the small of your back at all times and every time your eyes meet, he can’t help but steal a quick kiss.
It’s past three in the morning when you leave your sister’s home and Harry drives you back home. The ride is silent, but it’s comfortable, the moments you shared tonight speak for you.
“Can I call you tomor—erm, later today?” Harry chuckles when he realizes it’s already the next day.
“Absolutely,” you smile and you both move towards each other at the same time, lips meeting over the console before you get out of his car. You wave at him from the front door, watching him drive away with the cheesiest, most lovesick smile on your face.
Though Harry is still buzzing from the events of the night when he goes to bed, it doesn’t take long for him to fall asleep. It’s been a long and memorable day, he needs to recharge before jumping into the new exciting year.
He has just put on the coffee to brew when his phone starts buzzing on the kitchen counter. He rubs his eyes before snatching it and checking the screen, an unknown number flashing on the screen.
“Hello?” he answers hesitantly.
“It’s me.” He recognizes your voice in an instant, eyes popping wide open and he didn’t even need the caffeine.
“Hi!” he breathes out, trying his best not to sound too excited, though he fails, because he hears your chuckle on the other end of the line.
“I’m glad you’re up, Sarah said you might sleep in late when I asked for your number.”
“I just woke up, actually.”
“Good. You can let me in then.”
“What…” he gapes and then hears the doorbell ring.
He drops the phone to the counter without even ending the call as he sprints to the door in his slippers, almost tripping on his way before he flings the front door open just to find you on his doormat.
“Well, I told you I would just show up at your place every day,” you chuckle. “Do you want to spend the first day of the year together?” you ask, noticeably nervous about his reaction, but he melts at your presence and he takes your hand before pulling you in.
“Wouldn’t want to spend it with anyone else.”
Thank you for reading, please like and reblog if you enjoyed and buy me a coffee if you want to support me!

watching tos for the first time since like, roughly 2012/13-ish? i don't remember what year it was, or why i only got thru most of season 1 before stopping
it's been fun to refresh my swiss cheesed memory with this tho so here's a semi-liveblog of the first 10 eps that i watched over the past couple weeks
1x01 - the man trap
things i remembered beforehand:
salt monster
"plum" uwu
that gay little run and crawl jim does when he's taking cover (it fills me with such delight)
things i did not remember:
how many people died, good god man it's only the first episode
1x02 - charlie x
things i remembered:
jim's bright red exercise pants
that stupid fucking face charlie makes when he uses his powers
not liking this ep at all when i first watched it, possibly due to me being around the same age as charlie at the time
additional thoughts: i enjoyed it more this time and felt more sympathetic for charlie. poor kid needed some parents, and also, like, a hug
1x03 - where no man has gone before
things i remembered:
bones isn't in it :'( (bored) (sad) (missing my bestie)
"James R Kirk"
that post i saw on here recently about how their contacts were made of glass
the only thing i could think about while watching:
their contacts
were made
of GLASS
(yes i understand this was how contacts were made back then. still freaked out by the concept of people putting glass in their eyes on purpose)
1x04 - the naked time
things i remembered:
sweat disease
sulu fencing
oh kathleen
"ONE-MORE-TIME!!"
"love mankind"
spock breakdown (extremely uncomfortable to watch)
bones casually ripping jim's shirt sleeve to jab him in the arm (extremely hilarious every time i think about it)
did not remember:
anything about them almost crashing into a planet lol
jim's little monologue when he gets infected (lmao)
time warp???
additional thoughts: hey remember when they reused this plot in tng and tasha and data fucked (<- literally the only thing i can remember about it) ((edit from future fex: i rewatched that ep. it was wild. tos did it better tho))
1x05 - the enemy within
things i remembered:
unicorn dog :)
evil kirk and poor little meow meow kirk
"I'M CAPTAIN KIRK!!!"
things not remembered:
dog dies :(
evil kirk's killer eyeliner
additional thoughts: say what you will about shatner / his acting but this ep is Peak shatner performance and a lot of fun to watch. he put his whole pussy into it, as the kids say these days
1x06 - mudd's women
things remembered:
could not forget harry mudd if i tried
the women are color coded like the powerpuff girls lol
they're also like, on some kind of drug that keeps them looking young or something
cool costumes tho
i don't have much to say about this one lol, harry's a fun character but the rest of the ep wasn't super interesting to me. did finally learn how to pronounce "ophiuchus" tho so i'll thank it for that
1x07 - what are little girls made of
things remembered:
is this the penis rock episode (it is)
uhhh i think kirk gets put into some kind of spinny machine that makes androids (he does)
more cool costumes (debatable)
things i find funny:
the number of planets we've encountered so far that are populated by like. 2-4 people
the way ruk (the big guy) just picks up and throws kirk like he weighs nothing
so much buildup with kirk and the penis rock and he doesn't even get to hit ruk over the head with it smh
also not a funny moment but i liked the way kirk was able to get a message to spock thru the android kirk, v clever
wait i just realized bones wasn't in this ep either. deducting 1/4 of a star from my mental rating bc i missed him (but apparently not that much)
1x08 - miri
remembered:
planet of children (bc everyone else died of terminal puberty)
"no blah blah blah!"
bones tests his newly discovered, untested cure on himself, in true mad scientist fashion (also spones moment <3)
saw this ep on a "what's your fave 'bad' episode" poll here recently and i can't remember if i thought it was good or bad when i first watched it lol
forgot:
another earth?? there's just a second, identical earth floating around out there?? and (of course) they don't mention it at all for the rest of the episode
300 year old children
oh these kids are so much more annoying than i remembered, however i may just be biased bc i don't like kids shfkshfk
1x09 - dagger of the mind
remember:
absolutely nothing! oh boy!
thoughts:
wow this ep is fucked up!
okay actually i don't think i've seen this one at all before?
usually there'll be moments that jog my memory but the only thing even slightly familiar to me was kirk going "helen don't go!" while in the neutralizer chair, but i could've just seen a clip/gif of it before
i remember skipping episodes in season 1 (i was impatient and wanted to get to city on the edge of forever) but i thought i'd at least made it to halfway thru the season before skipping any
anyway did i mention this ep is fucked up? (star trek really does love to drop an absolutely haunting 50 minutes of television on you and then never address it again, i understand this now. roll credits!)
1x10 - the corbomite maneuver
remember:
uhh
there's a thing out there
it's in the way
preventing them from boldly going, even
looks like an old windows screensaver
i might've skipped this ep too now that i think about it
thoughts:
cute mckirk moment in sickbay :3
i love that this cube has its own theme music whenever its on screen
oh shit it's the sequel to cube: orb
jesus christ that's a big orb
man they really said "okay we've got 3 music tracks and we're gonna get our money's worth out of them"
i gotta say this ep slaps tbh—WAIT HE'S A BABY???
LITTLE BABY MAN
LMAOOOOO
honestly great episode tho i'll stand by that

There is something special about springtime in New York. Kaycee insists everyone should experience it at least once. She was now living through her eighth and found it every bit as magical as her first. Perhaps that's why her eyes were fixed on the window as she patiently waited, perched anxiously on the edge of her chair. There was so much to keep her mind occupied. Children in fancy prep-school uniforms skipped beside their harried nannies, who scolded them not to run ahead. Tourists, with perpetually lost expressions, had their cameras at the ready, and who could blame them? There wasn't a thing surrounding them that anyone would want to forget. Then there were the young lovers, strolling hand in hand, so enraptured with each other that they never even stopped to marvel at the blooming fields that turned Central Park into a masterpiece that no artist could ever replicate. Yes, New York in the spring delivered pure magic, and she never took that for granted.
She was relieved when she received his text earlier that day. Work was more chaotic than usual. Knowing he was running even later than her brought her a little relief. Just a little.
I called Gabriel's they're still holding our reservation. When you get there, order a bottle of wine. You always had exquisite taste, so I trust you. And it's on me, don't spare me any expense.
She watched closely as the well-bedecked waiter poured her glass of Vérité La Muse Merlot, a crafty smile tugging at her lips. He hadn't arrived yet, but she could already hear him….
I said spare no expense, but I didn't think you'd bleed me dry!
She'd tease that their next bottle would be the Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac Bordeaux, three times the price. But maybe not... knowing him? He'd order it on the spot.
She mindlessly swirled the garnet liquor in its decadent crystal chalice, enjoying its fragrant aroma before eagerly welcoming the glass to her lips. The tension left her shoulders as the smile on her face grew.
"I take it meets your approval," the waiter beamed.
"More than," Kaycee replied, suddenly grateful he had picked the venue. It seemed like overkill when he mentioned it. After all, she was more of a burger and beer at The Perfect Pint woman herself, but right now… she hadn't a single complaint.
She heard his voice before she saw him, and she downed her remaining wine in a most unladylike manner. Her stomach was in knots, though she couldn't say why, especially after she turned and saw that once-familiar smile light up the room. It was funny how time and distance could melt away with one glance.
"MacClennan!" Tobias gushed. "Get the hell over here and give me a hug!"
"Oh my God, look at you!" She beamed, clenching him in a warm embrace. "I swear you haven't changed a bit!"
"Well, you have!" He insisted, dramatically walking around her for effect. "How is it you get younger with every passing year?"
"You know, those pathetic lines may work on most women, Tobias…."
"But you've never been most women," he laughed.
The two old friends took to their seats and began chatting away like old times. It had been a good six years since they exchanged more than a brief greeting on their birthdays and a card at Christmastime, and though there was much to catch up on, it was as if they didn't miss a beat.
"I hear you were seeing someone!"
"Yes, was… past tense."
"I heard you got married?"
"And divorced… but you already knew that, didn't you?"
"Of course I did!"
"I read your research on genetically engineering cells… it was brilliant!"
"I’d love to say I was surprised with how you’ve made your team world-renowned, but that would be a lie.”
The conversation flowed so freely, so pleasantly... it felt like home, and Kaycee wondered why she was ever apprehensive about the evening. She questioned her choice to keep Tobias at arms-length some six years before. But as the evening moved on and the topics of conversation dwindled, the reason was clear. The eight-thousand-pound elephant in the room that the two had eloquently managed to sidestep was suddenly standing before them, demanding to be seen. It was Kaycee who relented first.
“So, how is Ethan?” She asked softly, a tone so low Tobias may have missed it if he hadn't been waiting for her to ask all night.
“He’s good,” Tobias assured, preparing to recite the canned reply he planned just for this occasion. “He’s doing just….”
But the evening had been too pleasant, his joy at seeing his old friend too genuine to mar the night with a lie.
“He’s Ethan… Kaycee. He’s Ethan.”
Her lip twitched, and she quickly grabbed her wine, a quick reflex that would provide a cover until she could think of more to say.
“I… I was hoping maybe he’d join you. Is he in town as well?”
“No, no… I’m the only one representing the team. He decided to sit this one out.”
“Oh,” she replied sadly. “Well, I’m not surprised. Pediatrics isn’t his field. In fact, I was surprised you were attending.”
“Well, unfortunately, we’re seeing more and more young patients, and we need to expand our knowledge. We hope to add two pediatric specialists to the team by year's end, but it never hurts to learn more.”
“Oh, I might know someone by the name of Dr. Trinh who would make a marvelous addition to the team, not that I’m trying to influence you!”
“Trust me, I’ve already floated her name. We all know she’d be perfect, except….”
He tried to stop that last word, but it came a second too late.
“Except?” Kaycee arched her brow, already knowing the answer she'd receive.
Tobias leaned back with a sigh and ran a hand down his face.
“It’s still hard for him to be around… people or things… that he associates with you. I know it may sound ridiculous, but....”
“No,” Kaycee said, pouring the remaining wine into her glass. “It doesn’t sound ridiculous at all. Of course, some of us had to learn to live with it because… everything reminds me of him….” she trailed. “But that’s unimportant. I don’t think he’d be foolish enough to let the best doctor for the position go or to deny her the opportunity… just because of... me.”
Tobias studied Kaycee carefully, and while she did a better job hiding it than his best friend back in Boston, he could still see that familiar pain in her eyes.
“No. When push comes to shove, he will always do what’s best for the team. But, it won’t be easy.”
For the first time that night, an uncomfortable silence fell between them, and he gave her the time she needed. Her eyes were fixed on the silverware she was fidgeting with, and Tobias was already composing the tongue-lashing he intended to give Ethan in his mind.
“You know… I owe you an apology,” she finally spoke.
“Me?” He marveled. “What for?”
“For blowing you off,” she faltered. “You know, not in the way most women blow you off,” she teased, desperate for any form of levity. “But… seriously… how can I criticize Ethan for doing the very things I’ve done. I limited our friendship to the occasional nicety because… it was just too hard to be around you. It reminded me of a different time, a wonderful time, but… whoever said ‘time heals’ is a liar."
“Kaycee,” whispered. “I’ll never understand how the two of you have allowed so much time to linger... so much pain… when it’s unnecessary.”
“Is it, though?” She asked defensively. “Is it? When I think back to when my residency was ending… Tobias, there was nothing I wouldn’t have given for him. I loved him… I loved him so much… I would have done anything to stay together, but he, he wasn't willing to give anything at all. What choice did I have? And I’ve tried… I’ve tried to move on. I’ve built a phenomenal career, and I have a good life here. I love New York, and I’m happy. But when it comes to love… everyone is still second to him. They’re second to a ghost, so in time we both end up hurt, and it’s not fair. When my last relationship ended, I decided not to even try anymore. It was three years, Tobias… three intoxicating, extraordinary, tumultuous years. We've lived almost three times that amount since I left Boston, and still… I can’t let go. I’ve just accepted that this is how it will always be.”
Tobias tossed his napkin on the table with a sigh. “Ah, Kaycee… You know… you deserve more. You really do.”
“We both do,” she smiled sadly.
“Have you ever tried reaching out to him? At all?”
“I ran into him at a convention or two. We exchanged polite greetings after we failed at doing our best to avoid each other, but nothing more than that.”
“Why don’t you try?”
“Tobias. Did you ask him to come to this conference with you? And don’t lie to me. I can tell when you lie.”
“No, you can’t,” he smirked.
“Try me.”
“Yes. I asked him.”
“And he declined... he declined because he didn’t want to risk seeing me. In a city of eight million people, the risk of running into me was too great… so he declined. Am I right?”
“You are,” he whispered with a sad smile.
“Trust me, Tobias. Any man who goes to those lengths to avoid me doesn’t want my call.”
Tobias reached over and gave her hand a supportive squeeze as they tried to move the conversation along. Despite the melancholy mood the evening had taken on, they were still happy to have spent time together. Tobias walked Kaycee to her door and shared a long hug before bidding her good night.
“I can’t tell you what to do, but I’d love it if we didn’t let another six years slip by before doing this again.”
“I couldn’t agree more,” she grinned. “So, you’ll just have to come to New York…”
“… or you can come o Boston….”
"Oh, Tobias," Kaycee said, gently touching his cheek. "You know damn well that Boston only has around 650,000 people... and it's the scene of the crime."
"Then I’ll just have to make a point of coming to New York more often,” he grinned. “It was great seeing you.”
“It was great seeing you, too.”
Without any place to go, Tobias lingered in front of Kaycee’s building, his eyes trailing her until she stepped through the elevator doors. Then he started on the five-block walk to his hotel. He wasn’t one to believe in love… not often anyway… but when it was real... when it was true... he couldn't understand how two people could let it go. He had watched his best friend live half a life for nearly a decade, and now that he knew Kaycee had been doing the same, he was filled with a sadness he didn't quite understand.
The lobby of his hotel was warm and inviting... mahogany walls, soft jazz, small groups of people engaged in convivial conversations and laughter. Given his state of mind, this was definitely more appealing than the solitary room waiting for him. He flopped back into one of the plush settees and ordered a stiff drink. He knew it was just another night for Ethan, but he felt the need to check on his friend. With a few sips of brandy under his belt, he reached into his pocket for his phone.
“Hey, Boss! How’s it going?”
“It’s going,” Ethan replied. “I should be asking you that.... how was the first day of the conference.”
“Good, it was good,” Tobias enthused. “Lots of information, and it left me confident of one thing.”
“Yeah, what’s that?”
“We need to bring on the pros. Sure, we should broaden our own knowledge, but I say we move ahead and hire some peds for our team. We’re getting too many kids lately, Ethan… and neither of us enjoys it when we fail them. I think it would improve our outcomes.”
“I couldn’t agree more,” Ethan replied.
“Good! I say we put the search into high swing.”
“I’m a step ahead of you," Ethan countered. "I spent the night speaking with… with Dr. Trinh.”
“Oh,” Tobias’s eyes widened. “Did you? You know I’ve made no secret about it… she’d be the best person for the job.”
“You're right,” Ethan sighed. “And she can be quite persuasive, too.”
“That’s an understatement,” Tobias laughed. “So, did she convince you to let her be our new team member?”
“She did. I told her the job is hers if she wants it… and I think she wants it.”
“Excellent!” Tobias grinned, grateful that something left him feeling a little better. “If I had known she could be this persuasive, I would have utilized her sooner!”
“Yeah,” Ethan laughed. “You have no idea how persuasive she could be.”
“Oh, is there more?”
“There is.”
“OK, stop being so cryptic, buddy. You going to fill me in or what?”
“I could,” Ethan swallowed. “But it's not a conversation to have on the phone. Why don’t you come join me at the bar, and I’ll tell you the rest.”
“That would be great, Ethan… but in case you’ve forgotten, I’m an hour and a half plane ride away.”
“Tobias... turn around.”
Stupified, Tobias stood up and glanced around the room, his phone still at his ear when a goofy grin lit up his face.
“So, you’re in New York?” He spoke into the mouthpiece. “Is it for the conference?”
Ethan shook his head with a smirk.
"Why don't you hang up and join me.”

Unfinished Friday
A crawling what @tackytigerfic ??? (Seriously— a brilliant premise! And thanks for tagging me!). This is a wip I started and abandoned some time last year—re-reading this snip has reminded me to get back to it asap! I’d love to see what you’ve got lurking in your drafts, @avenueofesc, @makeitp1nk, @hogwartsfirebolt, @geesenoises, @phdmama, & @saintgarbanzo!
Imagine if Wolfstar raised Harry away from wizarding society in a sleepy little seaside town that a certain aggressively blonde, pureblood family happened to vacation at?
Harry uses his magic to silence his creaky door as he slips out into the hallway and pulls it shut behind himself. It’s a house rule that the door to the linen closet is always left slightly ajar, thanks to the time Harry shut himself in during a particularly ferocious tantrum and was too embarrassed to call for help for nearly an hour–it doesn’t matter that it happened when he was three and he’s nearly eighteen now–so he just has to stretch out a hand as he passes to summon his favorite beach towel and stuff it into his backpack before zipping it closed.
He steps carefully over the threshold to the kitchen to avoid the one loose tile and is nearly to the sliding glass doors and home free when–
“And where do you think you’re off too, this early?”
Harry jumps and nearly drops his backpack. He whirls around to find Remus seated at the kitchen table in his old, checkered robe, a steaming cup of tea clasped between his hands and his reading glasses perched on his nose. The newspaper is spread out on the table in front of him.
“Couldn’t sleep again?” Harry asks, his voice high and pinched. “Full moon’s only a couple nights away, I guess, but you should really get your rest!”
Remus raises an eyebrow and sets his mug down. His lips twist with the smile he’s trying to suppress. “Don’t try to deflect. The sun isn’t even up yet.”
Harry sighs, finally relenting to the fact that he has been well and truly caught. “I’m just going out for a bit before I have to get to work! You know how crowded the beach gets this time of year. I want to beat all the tourists!” He knows he sounds whiny, but the weather is supposed to be perfect this morning and he doesn’t want to miss the best waves.
Remus chuckles and pushes his reading glasses onto his forehead as he crosses his arms over his chest. “Were you even going to leave a note? Did you want us to wake up and think you’d been kidnapped in the night?”
Harry rolls his eyes, but a flush heats his cheeks. “Yeah, ‘course…” he says unconvincingly. “But it’s not like you wouldn’t know exactly where I am!”
“Don’t tell me you’ve already forgotten the time Sirius had the beach patrol out searching for you at six in the morning.”
Harry laughs, “I could literally never forget that. Oh my god that was so embarrassing. Why is he like that??”
Remus makes a soft noise and considers Harry for a long moment. “He just worries about you. Because he loves you.”
Harry shifts on his feet, hearing Remus’s words for the gentle chastisement they are. “Yeah. I know.”
“And he’s always been a bit of a neurotic twat. Can’t help it.” Remus’s eyes sparkle with mirth. “Have I ever told you the story of the first time you got lost in the grocery store?”
Harry laughs again, more loudly. “The one where Sirius cried more than I did before and after you found me?”
“That’s the one,” Remus says, grinning, as he picks up his tea again and takes a sip. “Now go, before said neurotic twat wakes up and decides to keep you here for three hours casting sun protection charms, making sure you have a full breakfast and reading you the pamphlet on how to escape an undertow again.”
Harry grins so wide his cheeks hurt. “Thanks, Re.” He pulls open the sliding door and has one foot nearly out when he feels a hand on his shoulder.
“Here, at least take this,” Remus says as he hands him a banana. “You really should be sure to eat something. And don’t forget this.” Remus presses Harry’s wand into his hand–it’s an old, second-hand thing that he rarely uses, but he knows it makes both of his uncles feel better if he has it on him whenever he leaves the house.
“Thanks, Re,” Harry says again, more softly, as Remus pulls him into a hug.
“Be careful, Harry. Text when you’re on your way to work.”
Harry tightens his arms around Remus’s back. “‘Kay,” he mumbles.

Sirius as Harry's Godfather
Tumblr media
headcanons of how Sirius would be as a godfather to harry
warnings: n/a
words: 0.4k
Tumblr media
- He definitely cries so hard when James and Lily ask if he'll be Harry's godparent
- Even though he's scared of being a father because of his own parents, he says yes of course
- When Harry is born, Sirius is the third person to hold him (behind Lily and James obviously) and he cries over that too
- We're gonna pretend James and Lily live and Sirius never goes to Azkaban
- Definitely Fun Uncle™
- Lily doesn't trust James and Sirius to be alone with Harry together because she knows they'll do something stupid
- Buys a million gifts for him
- Tries to get Harry's first word to be 'padfoot' like "come on Haz, say it. Say 'Padfoot'!"
- His first word ends up being some cuss because it's actually easier to pronounce and he swears all the time
- Lily gets so mad about that and he apologises a thousand times
- Him and James teach Harry how to fly on a broomstick (honestly I could write a whole oneshot ab this and probably will because I know it would be adorable)
- I'm picturing family dinners with the Potters and the other Marauders at least once a week
- Sirius turns into a dog to amuse Harry all the time, whether its actually like playing fetch and stuff or just letting the kid pet him
- When Harry gets older and goes to Hogwarts, Sirius is literally as happy as can be that he's in Gryffindor and joins the Quidditch team
- Gives him ideas for dumb stuff to do at school, and Lily always gets upset when he gets in trouble for it
- Steals Harry's glasses to do impressions of James
- Oh how could I forget he has a room in his apartment for Harry
- And he keeps Harry's drawings from when he was really young, frames them, puts them on the fridge, everything
- Takes him to Muggle rock concerts
- Him and James teach Harry how to prank and cause all that mischief like a Marauder
- All around just the best godparent/uncle, just amazing
