Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).

Maya is incredible. I loved her.

I haven't finished all the issues yet, but do you have any other recommendations?

hii!!! and omg so many liu zhigang lovers im so happy but here are some of my takes on the pretty man and welcome ✒️ nonnie!!! 🫶

LIU ZHIGANG HEADCANONS

he's probably one of the loudest people you've met in your life but not in a volume wise loud.. like he probably doesn't shut up if he gets comfortable with you. when you first meet him, you might have the urge to wish that he just shuts up but nowadays you find it endearing how he talks about his day and how the raid went. it might be his cocky tone that steer people away but you somehow find it attractive as time passes by.

liu zhigang has the best hair routine and whenever you spend time with him you can catch a whiff of the fruity scented hair products he uses. his mother probably took good care of his hair and taught him how to watch over it, this probably stuck with him. he lets you run your fingers through his hair, feeling satisfied that all the effort of taking care of his hair scored him a sweet significant other that's you! you often catch him smugly smiling to himself as you play or comb his hair.

liu zhigang is stylish! i have a feeling when he finally earned enough he started to explore different types of fashion and is well versed in making up outfits. his go to colors though are reds, golds, blacks and probably white or silvers depending on which one looks better. zhigang would love to dress you up and match outfits, feeling a bit prideful whenever you two walk around the streets and people would gawk at the sight of you two's outfits because it's intricately designed with traditional chinese dragons and it mostly screams liu zhigang in the best way.

he gives the best hugs— i mean have you seen that one panel where he finished fighting off a titan?? that man is JACKED, he just looked so skinny when he wore the suit... anyway he gives the best hugs and it's usually in a form of a bear hug but it doesn't matter if he tackles you to the ground, it feels comfortable and safe in his arms. this probably becomes one of his reasons why he keeps up his muscular form, not because it's overall convenient maybe it's to give the best hugs haha.... he's too prideful to admit that though but it's definitely there—

I don't know but he gives me the vibe he would occasionally talk in his sleep if he's dead tired. you've experienced this for the first time when he had a tiring day of fighting a titan in the sea presumably with no land around him so he was probably... swimming and simultaneously fighting it which made a picture in your head of liu zhigang swimming furiously which made you laugh. anyway he would be sleeping beside you and mumble something in his sleep. this of course made you curious and when you lean in closed to under what the hell is he saying you would discover he was saying your name along with some cutesy lovey dovey mumbo jumbo which made you a little bit surprised. you're definitely gonna use this to tease zhigang later

this might be me self projecting but he probably has a small collection of perfumes. he smells surprsingly good and refreshing most of the time, since his nature of work would result to him being worked up and body temperature rising i feel blue scented perfume which are commonly to be refreshing but that type of perfume is what zhigang will use if he's out doing raids and stuff but if he's going on a meeting or something more professional he would go more of a musky and woody scent! liu zhigang might also have more knowledge than an average person when it comes to perfumes and scents so if you catch him unexpectedly rambling about scents you know why.

hhuhue I can't think of anything else but i wanted to add he loves using pet names and expand on it but i just realized i suck at thinking of good pet names without it sounding like an insult 😒 so anyway i hope this is good enough for uou!!! and live laugh love liu zhigang

Hmmmmm that is a tough one because I read so many fanfictions on a daily basis xD but i will try my best.

My absolute favourite has got to be Shed Skin by Penguinabominations and snowxhanyouxqueen

It’s a fanfiction from the Yakuza franchise and is set within an alternative Version of Yakuza 0. An absolutely fantastic read, a gorgeous writing style and intriguing characterisation of Kiryu and Majima. Highly recommend it, but please read the tags first for potential Triggers.

This fanfic man… It lowkey broke me. Another Yakuza fanfiction this time focussing on my favourite character from the franchise: Ichiban Kasuga. The fanfic heavily discusses themes of SA but in a respectful manner. But still only read this if you are in a mentally safe place. But like shed skin, this fan fiction NAILS the characterisation of the cast, with its dialogue sounding like it could be straight from the game itself.

As for the reason why my username is Otaku-tyriq, the story behind it is actually pretty boring. When i was 11 i realised i was genderfluid and literally just googled "genderneutral names” and found the name Tyrik. So i changed the letter k to a q for my tumblr name and most of my social media handles as most usernames with the name Tyrik was usually already taken.

The otaku part of my username is self explanatory. I’m a geek who loves japanese pop culture and media. An otaku.

I started my D&D campaign back in April of 2020 shortly after the COVID Lockdown hit. I was bored out of my skull and stressed, and a friend had expressed his frustration with his own D&D group and I just went "Fuck it."

I hadn't played DnD since college. I had never GM'd a tabletop game. But I had nothing better to do. So I went on to Discord into, like, the three channels I'm active in and rounded up a gaggle of friends from FFXIV and from my old City of Heroes group. For my starter campaign I used the very first Eberron campaign ever published for I think 3e or 3.5e, converted to 5e, "The Forgotten Forge."

And three and a half years, multiple cases of COVID, two rounds of cancer and chemotherapy, four or five moves, three kidney stones, multiple bouts of depression, and a half dozen job changes, we finally finished the campaign at level 16, having convinced the Lord of Blades to devote his talents to building the new Warforged nation and healing the Mournlands using the unique techno-organic warforged plants and animals we'd discovered, instead of his original plan which was to absorb the power of a Creation Engine and a Demon Overlord into himself, achieve apotheosis, and drown the world in a tide of blood.

My original plan for the final battle has in large underlined letters the phrase "Biblically Accurate Chainsaw Angel" and included a speech with lines like "LET THE SEAS BOIL AND THE SKIES FALL! LET THE WORLD BURN!"

Also probably ending up with the players picking the Red, Blue or Green endings from the End-o-Matic 9000.

But that didn't happen.

So instead, the campaign that started with our little group of heroes stumbling onto the murder of a professor with the clues to a hidden workshop, ended with the wedding of Seeker the Warforged Artificer, the man who'd talked the Lord of Blades down (despite having a Charisma of 8) and now holds the title of Maestro Seeker, is an advisor to the national leadership, and is the teacher of a whole new batch of warforged, and the warforged medic Solace, an NPC whose existence began as a joke about Seeker having a whirlwind romance with a medic in the space of about 23 minutes while the rest of the party were running errands.

Hot damn was that a lot of work. Three and a half years, and despite it starting in modules by the second I'd decided I didn't like the story as it was written, threw it out, and told my own story. Featuring friendly little fire elementals named Phil, packs of extremely patriotic and laddish mimics named Jimmy, an eight foot robotic sweetheart named Friend whose primary weapon was an equally massive tower shield and her totally-not-boyfriend warforged druid/allosaurus/swearasaurus Din, a wrestling match with a hobgoblin that nearly turned lethal when an 18 foot tall warforged titan came in with the steel chair, an alligator with a gun, and banishing the elemental dragon powering a flying battleship while A) the team was still on the battleship and B) it was still several hundred feet in the air and C) it was the only thing keeping it there... it's done.

And it was all worth it. God I love these guys. So here's to you, Katie, Jacquie, Mike, Stan, and Will. I'll see you all next week for our next adventure.

Kaiju Week in Review (January 28-February 3, 2024)

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition's Godzilla DLC is now available. I joined Wikizilla's stream of it yesterday as a spectator and found it quite entertaining (especially when @squid-in-a-party-hat switched to Creative Mode and started summoning mini-kaiju). I'll post the highlight reel from that stream when it's finished. The main hub of this DLC is a combination movie theater/gallery; each of the four screens lets you access a different minigame. The first is based on the original film and has you rescuing civilians and just trying to survive as Godzilla trashes Tokyo. The second transforms you into Godzilla and pits you and your allies against various kaiju from the first three series. The third tasks you with defending Tokyo against Shin Godzilla, with each defensive phase featuring a different form. The fourth just has you taking photos of the battles in Godzilla vs. Kong (with the Tasmian Sea fight replaced by Godzilla barging into Kong's dome). I found the second and third to be the most interesting, but it's dismaying that only the third really takes advantage of these games being in Minecraft. You scrounge items, build barricades, lay down TNT, trade with NPCs, summon agents, fire blood coagulation potion into Godzilla's mouth from a crossbow... it's a lot more involved than the others.

In further Godzilla video game news, the Heisei MOGUERA and a crystal-hurling SpaceGodzilla variation have joined Godzilla Battle Line, the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers mobile game is teasing its original monsters, and Dave the Diver of all things announced a free PlayStation-exclusive Godzilla DLC for May.

Here's a rare sequel to an IDW Godzilla miniseries. Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II - Sons of Giants will boast the same writer (Frank Tieri) and artist (Inaki Miranda) as its predecessor. The logline:

The sequel to last summer’s smash miniseries! Frank Tieri and Inaki Miranda reunite to explore the conspiracy that led to Sir Francis Drake hiding his treasure on Monster Island! Who are the Sons of Giants, and what is their mission? More importantly, what is their connection to Godzilla and the other monsters? This series shows us how it all came to be, how Godzilla was discovered by the leaders of the world, and how it changed history forever!

Despite the Roman numerals, sounds like a prequel. I still think there's something off about any Godzilla story set before the Atomic Age, but the Sons of Giants were the most interesting part of the original Here There Be Dragons, and historical figures encountering the King of the Monsters is always amusing.

Naturally, Funko is making a line of Pops for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The standout is the Amazon-exclusive figure of a sleeping Godzilla; I also love how Shimo looks like she's yakking. Monogram also revealed the lineup for its sixth wave of Toho Godzilla bag clips, as well as a GxK set. Highlights of the former are a curled-up Final Wars Anguirus, a Simeon, and Zilla; the latter is notable for including a previously-unrevealed monster called a Parrot Frog.

Tokyo's Hibiya neighborhood has long played host to Godzilla statues: first the Kawakita Godzilla, then Shin. Now they're getting a new three-meter statue of the original '54 Godzilla. It emits smoke at night, the mouth glows, and there seems to be some kind of AR app through which he fires atomic breath at you. Despite it being a 70th anniversary installation, however, it'll only be in Hibiya until March 10. I'm guessing that won't be the last we see of it.

Cooking some food, so while I wait on that to finish. Lemme give yall some potentially cursed Voice Headcanons I had for the Dungeon Meshi gang before the anime came out.

Laois & Falin: Honestly, the anime nailed it...mostly. Consider it personal bias but I gave Laois and Falin some country accents in my head. Either Alabama or West Virginian depending on the day. They just seem like they got some "Country Bumpkin" energy.

Marcille: Considering I still read her name as "Mar-Silly-A" you might expect me to have given her a french accent, but no. I always read her voice kinda like a slightly higher pitched and panicked version of Asami's from Legend of Korra.

Senshi: A soft spoken Gimli, with no specific accent outside of fantasy dwarf. (I know it's based on a real accent, but fantasy dwarf is not the same as real scottish) I watched too much Lord of the Rings and now it's the default way all dwarves sound in mah brain.

Chilchuck: Before learning he was a middle aged man, Anime voice is pretty accurate. After learning he was a middle aged man, for some reason MoistCritikal (current youtube name Penguinz0) and I can't explain why.

Itsuzumi: Catra. Literally just Catra from She-ra. They have a similar "Fuck yall, I got mine!" Energy.

Bonus!

Thistle: Like a more pissy and bratty 9S from Nier automata. Listen, both are twinky sad boys I could carry like a football if I wanted.

Chimera Falin: I don't think she speaks, but I assumed she would make grunts and noises like a mix of the Deathclaw in Fallout and bird trills due to the mix of Dragon and Harpy features.

Kabru: Beastboy. From the OG Teen-Titans cartoon, not Teen-Titans Go. He just looks like the kind of dude to have a naturally disarming sound to his voice. (Would you expect a beastboy sounding person to be schemeing?)

Name origin: The former pole star, before the north star (Polaris), it's name means "Large snake" and is referred to as the “Dragon's tail”

Relation: Raised Polaris, though they're not related by blood and have a somewhat distant relationship, until he suddenly went MIA

Weapon: Spear (Same as Polaris's)

Name: Ananke

Name origin: A moon of Jupiter, named for the mythological spirit of necessity, inevitably, and compulsion

Pronouns: She/her

Relation: Bella's mother, she raised her to be a warrior

Weapon: Bardiche

Ethos (Power): Indomination (The ability to freeze the movement of objects and people, and lock them in place)

Flaw power is based on: Her strict enforcement of obedience through authoritarianism, and a lack of concern for the wishes of others

Notes: She believes in tough love. It's better in the long run to give your kid strength rather than affection.

Name: Rhea

Name origin: A moon of Saturn named after the Titan known as the mother of the gods

Pronouns: She/her

Age: 38

Relation: Saiph's mother, though she gave him up to the guild when he was very young

Weapon: None

Ethos (Power): None

Flaw power is based on: N/A

Notes: Was unable to take care of a baby at the time, and gave Saiph to the guild. She wishes she'd visited beyond that but it's probably too late now...

Name: Arche

Name origin: One of Jupiter's moons, it's name comes from the muse of new beginnings and is associated with springtime

Pronouns: He/him

Age: 7

Relation: Saiph's half-brother. Neither currently knows the other exists

Notes: He's just a little guy. He likes flowers and playing with toys. He wants to be a cool hero like his dad

Name origin: A star in Tucana, the Maori word for a black pearl of mystical beauty and perfection

Relation: Al's mom. She mostly raised him on her own while her husband was with the knights.

#Finn's ocs #Finn's art #oc references #i wrote the descs while w the kids so hopefully they make sense. my attention was split #but anyway here in the tags I'll talk about the designs in relation to their kids lol #polaris is emulating thuban moreso than anyone else. her color scheme and outfit motifs are the same as his- they ARE his #her original outfit is clothes she took and diy'd into her own so she could go off into the world and well presumably look for him at first #the truth is she always wanted to see the world that's why she loved maps. in a way this was an excuse. in another way she was just lonely #but doesn't understand loneliness. also the fact that she's not his daughter by blood is part of that #bc of her actual parents (not as relevant character-wise) she sees all relationships as temporary and she has issues connecting #ananke i wanted to mostly look intimidating in a way that Bella really isn't #Bella puts on skull hairties and fishnets and stuff but she's very much. a cute softie trying to look edgy. she has pink twintails #she's so different from her mom in pretty much every way but she still did have that ideal of strength drilled into her #still her take on it is softer. she's the team leader now but she's really pretty lenient aside from the important No Killing rule ofc #w Rhea and Arche i had a bit of a flower theme. pussywillow (lol) means motherhood and buttercups mean childishness #so. mother and child #but rhea is interesting bc she's raising a whole different kid now that she's in a different place in life #if you do the math she had Saiph young. and it was alright for a while until his dad (again not as important) died #so she didn't have support or money. but she had a connection to the guild because his dad's old sword teacher is a member (hmm)#but she was too scared/ashamed to visit. she just left him his dad's old knife because that's all she had (THE KNIFE IS IMPORTANT)#arche is her kid with her second husband and her new beginning. this will cause some inner problems for Saiph when he meets them...#Poerava was kinda designed to have rich lady vibes because remember Al's family is practically nobility #but more importantly she's designed to look like a mom. with the low ponytail and tired eyes #the black pearl of her namesake as the centerpiece of her outfit too #again she's got the healthiest relationship with her kid here by a longshot #but i mean don't worry Al still got the daddy issues so he's not getting away unscathed #I already drew Taurus with the zodiac knights though so i didn't feel the need to reintroduce him #anyway Mira really has 0 connection to any family at all she was found as an orphaned baby after a monster attack #obviously she had parents but beyond town of origin it's unknown who so she has no connections to any sort of past parental figure #the guild is her one and only family and that's how she wants it. she wants to be with them forever the past doesn't matter

I know we love the dashbun and Mabosstiff dynamic BUT HEAR ME OUT...I RAISE YOU! Arven x Reader who ALSO has a Mabosstiff of their own on their champion team and arven's reaction to them!!!

I'm answering this one in celebration of the fact that I FINALLY hatched my shiny maschiff puppy and am so proud of my lil purple girl.

Purple Puppy

Arven x reader, no gendered pronouns used to describe the reader.

So, here's the thing. Arven doesn't mean to be a dickhead most of the time.

Emphasis on the 'most of the time' part.

That said, when he sees you battling the titan Clawf with just a little puppy that looks a little too familiar, his mind is sent barreling painfully back to Area Zero where a monstrously large pokemon hurt his puppy.

Yes, Mabosstiff wasn't exactly a puppy then, but...well Mabosstiff will always be a puppy in Arven's heart.

He doesn't mean to lash out at you in the cave.

"What the fuck were you thinking back there?" He yells at you as he angrily prepares the sandwiches.

You're taken aback. "I'm sorry. What?"

"Bringing a baby pokemon like that up against Clawf? She could have gotten really hurt! You need to be careful!"

You get defensive quickly. "My maschiff is great in battle. I'd say we fared better than you and your shellder by a long shot. Besides, you asked me to come help you! I'm new at this. It's not like I've got a bunch of grown pokemon ready to throw into the fray!"

Arven grumpily finishes up the food.

"Take your pokemon out of the ball."

"What?!" You reach for Maschiff's ball defensively, not quite sure what he's getting at.

"Just!" He calms himself. "Just. Let me make sure she's okay. ...Please?"

He seems genuine enough, so you let your little maschiff out of her ball and take her up in your arms. She wriggles happily and yips snappily at Arven.

He softens when he sees her. "Can I...?" He holds his arms out as if to take her from you. You instead put her down on the floor of the cave.

Arven gets on his knees and holds his hands out to her.

"Hi, baby... Hello little buddy..." He sounds so... heartbroken and lost. You feel like you're intruding upon something.

It truthfully makes you uncomfortable, but you're not quite sure what to say about it.

Arven reaches up onto the picnic table and grabs one of the sandwiches he made, tearing off a little piece.

He looks to you.

"Can I..?"

You nod.

"Here, little buddy!" He offers her the snack which she gladly takes.

Your dragon then also makes itself known, popping out of its PokeBall and thoroughly tearing Arven from whatever semblance of a happy mood he'd had being near your puppy.

You leave him in the cave alone, more confused about...his whole deal the than ever.

Things fall a bit more into place after your fight with Bombirdier. He introduces you to Mabosstiff, and it clicks.

"I'm sorry about before..." He tells you softly as he strokes his dog's soft fur. "I just... I saw your girl, and... I saw him..." He leans in and hugs his boy gently.

You bring out Maschiff to see her elder. She initially starts off in puppy mode, ready to hop on Mabosstiff and play, but she quickly calms when she senses his distress. Instead she curls up at his side and whimpers quietly for him.

He doesn't react, and while it doesn't surprise you, it certainly breaks your heart.

You work more consistently with Arven from there on out to continue finding the herbs. Each time he brings Mabosstiff out to eat, you bring out Maschiff, who soon also becomes Mabosstiff in her own right.

She stays near him always when he's out of his pokeball, ready to defend him as needed.

When the two of you finally take down the false dragon and get Mabosstiff his final bit of medicine, it's the five of you that rejoice together, Raidon included, of course.

Arven never really enjoys battling, and there's always a part of him that panics a bit when he has to throw Mabosstiff into the ring. That anxiety extends in some ways to you and your Mabosstiff, too, but it doesn't stop him from thoroughly celebrating all of your victories and helping patch you both up.

Truth be told, he's really proud to see your Mabosstiff with her champion rank title ribbon. He just...gets nervous.

history unheeded is doomed to repeat - Part 1

Malorn finds the wizard while they are staring up at Bartleby’s deteriorating canopy. They had not been happy to find themself in Ambrose’s office again, running around at his beck and call—but the wizard is not going to refuse Bartleby a request. Certainly not one so important as this.

They tell as much to Malorn when he asks what they’re here for—and how long.

“I’ve got time before the next class—mind if I come along?”

The wizard hums a quiet affirmative, this shouldn’t take much time, and given the area it didn’t seem likely to be much of a danger. Malorn could come and see his old Professor’s home. And with that in mind—

“Do you know the way?” The wizard asks him, “Ambrose and Dworgyn didn’t actually tell me anything beyond the Dark Cave.”

Malorn confirms that he does in fact know where Malistaire’s house lies in the Dark Cave, and leads the way. They walk in easy silence for most of it, not as much time has passed now since their last visit. Nothing is as fraught as it had been before Darkmoor. They ask if he or the others have had any word on where Duncan had gone, but there has still been no sign.

“Was everything alright? In Polaris?”

“Finished a revolution, danced a ballet, overthrew a walrus, fought a Rat, stopped a synthetic Titan from blowing up the sky, saved the Spiral again. Met another eccentric acquaintance of Cyrus Drake’s.” They’ve decided it’s easier to trivialize things like this when explaining them to their friends. It will startle them a little less than the proper truth. “Made a new human friend, haven’t done that in a while.”

“Someday we’re gonna talk about this properly you know. Penny’s going to make you.”

The wizard smiles weakly, “I know. But not today, another crisis—right?”

Malorn looks like he wants to protest, but shakes his head and sighs. “Right. The friend—it’s the new life student right? Mellori?”

The wizard nods, “She spent her whole life sheltered in the woods in Polaris, I think she’s a little disappointed to be stuck doing classwork honestly.”

“Can’t relate,” Malorn says with a smile, “just the little bit of saving the world I got a taste of with you was plenty. Ah—right here.”

The house of Malistaire and Sylvia Drake is dimly lit and dusty. Cobwebs mark every corner, but so do keepsakes and portraits displaying lighter times. This isn’t just a house of death, but one reminding of an abundance of life as well. Harmony woven into the walls themselves. It’s clear standing anywhere within how much love there was here. Even long dead, even with the undercurrent of something wrong.

It’s powerful.

It’s comforting in a sad kind of way.

Still.

As the wizard and Malorn move deeper, it becomes evident that something is concealed. Malorn joins the fight when the Spectral Guardian appears—though only after the wizard nods him forward, silently saying it’s fine, you can. They appreciate that he waits. That he knows better than to throw himself at their enemies without a second thought.

And then they’re inside the sanctum. The desk is littered with papers and an open journal. The pair pour over it in the hopes of finding answers. For once, the reading is not accompanied by Raven’s voice. Rather, the wizard can almost hear it in Malistaire’s, as though he is sat before them, scribbling in a fevered manner all his attempts to bring Sylvia back.

A group of scholars split apart. Schismists. Answers for where he’d learned of the Krokonomicon, and how perhaps to awaken the Dragon Titan. More hidden information, more names that mean nothing. But at least a clue to where the Eye of History lay now. Something to give them a clear path forwards.

Their thoughts are broken by the approach of footsteps on tile outside.

“Someone is coming—hide—don’t argue!” the wizard hisses, shoving Malorn back towards the curtains with one hand. They don’t feel confident in him facing something that knows about what’s hidden here. The Guardian had been one thing, it had been set up by Malistaire himself. But even if they’re taking the brunt of the damage—they don’t want Malorn facing something like what they’ve seen in Khrysalis or even Polaris. They won’t put him in that kind of danger. Not again.

They look back down to the journal, eyes scanning over the last page.

Schismists.

Krokonomicon.

Mirage.

Had all of it been interconnected from the start?

“I knew it would be you,” The wizard’s heart sinks at the voice in the doorway, looking up from Malistaire’s journal to find Duncan Grimwater striding towards them—still wearing the armor they’d crafted him for Darkmoor. “You can’t help but keep being Ambrose’s pet can you.”

How long has it been now?

It had been five months at graduation. They’d spent only a few weeks in Polaris.

There had been no sign.

No word.

“I’m trying to help Bartleby.” They say softly, “He needs his eye back—”

“—Oh shut up, like you aren’t just jumping at the chance to make up for another mistake. Unfortunately for you, I’ve made powerful friends—and they won’t be letting that journal go to Ambrose or the Arcanum.”

“Is this what you’ve been doing for months,” They start, still not moving from the desk. “getting dragged into running errands for some doomsday group?”

“I’m not running errands.” Duncan growls, “And after I bring them the journal and tell them about your defeat, I’ll be a full fledged member.”

“Duncan,” The wizard tucks Malistaire’s journal into their bag, eyes not leaving him. “I don’t know who you’ve gotten tied up with—I don’t know what they promised you or what you get out of it—but you’re standing between me and the exit again. Don’t make this mistake.”

Duncan just shakes his head, an angry painful sounding laugh bubbling out of him. “No, no—sorry wizard—” he spits it like the word tastes foul, and honestly, maybe it does. “—but it’s you making the mistake this time. Go ahead. Try and leave. You’re not the only one who can play with the shadows anymore.”

“Stop it.” It’s low and gentle as they can push their voice to be right now, head swimming with more questions than before. “Please, just come with me—we can sort all of this out—”

“—do you ever listen to anyone?” Duncan cuts back over them, “Can you just not help but get involved in everything? You need to feel useful and powerful and special? Your time is over wizard—the Spiral’s time is over with it.”

They grit their teeth and step down from the platform where the desk stands. There is a small amount of gratification that comes when Duncan steps away. A small flicker of their ever present rage that bubbles up in satisfaction. “Do you think I want to do this? To be this? Do you think I enjoy being ordered around by people supposedly older, wiser, stronger than I am who won’t bring themselves to lift a finger to help? Did you listen to anything I said in Castle Darkmoor? Do you think I have any compassion left for the council? Or Ambrose himself? My loyalty starts and ends with keeping the Spiral intact—everything and everyone else is secondary bordering on pointless.” The words aren’t entirely true. But true enough. It feels like that day in Nightside reversed. Following him step for step with their voice rising. “I have tried time and again to get it through your thick skull-emblazoned head that I’m not special, your jealousy over the things I’ve done because I had no choice is unfounded and beyond that horrifying.”

Gods and starlight.

They don’t want to do this.

There is a circle here under their feet.

Duncan’s grip tightens on his staff—the new one—the echo of Malistaire in his hands.

They don’t want to do this.

…But clearly he does.

Fine.

If he wants to play at being important. If he wants to be in their way.

Let him taste what that’s like.

They take the last step towards him and slide into position within the dueling circle. Their deck sits before them, they know it wouldn’t be hard to end this. But he wants to see? Wants to feel powerful? Let him.

“First one is free.” The wizard tells him, a smile splitting their face that is mirthless and cold. Glad for now that their hood is down, that their expressions are clear. That the scars they have from saving him and the other necromancers in Nidavellir are on full display. “I’ll even make it easy—I’m sure you know what to do—” As expected, he swaps both feints they cast. Leaving him with enough of a boost that it should knock them down if he’s not stupid. “—Good.”

Everything else is a pass. Cards dismissed. Just waiting.

“Why aren’t you fighting!” It’s thrown him off, they’re pleased to see. Everything he does is with hesitation. He was ready for someone who was going to bite back—not stand there and take it. He came in expecting the ruthlessness he’d seen in Nidavellir, or even the apprehensive but driven state they’d been in for Darkmoor. Not passive play. It’s the Fiend that crawls up behind him, the wizard figures it ought to be plenty. They don’t know where he would have learnt it, unless he’d managed to copy what he’d seen them do once.

The smile drops, “Like I said,” another pass, just one more turn “first one is free.”

And free it is. The dark fiend slithers across the dueling circle and impacts against them hard, definitely enough, though only just—

They get to see the moment of shock on his face—but then they are heaving on hands and knees in the commons, the brightness of daylight overwhelming after Malistaire’s candlelit sanctum. It had hit them square where the scar on their sternum is, and there is a phantom ache mixing with the real one. But they push to their feet, downing a potion and drawing the recall sigil that lands them right in the open doorway—at Duncan’s back.

“—Ready for the real one?”

Duncan curses and jumps a mile, whipping around to see them leaning on the door frame. “How—how did—”

“—oh come on—you didn’t think one little shadow spell could finish me did you?” The wizard grumbles, “After everything I’ve been through? After the little bit you’ve seen? You want to be me? You’ve been playing at it, doing all sorts of running around trying to please powers you know nothing about. You want to know what it’s really like—?” they step fully into the room, reactivating the duel circle. “—then hit harder. I know you can. Don’t strike to knock me down. You want to see what I deal with? Aim to kill.”

This time they aren’t waiting.

This time blades go up, traps go down, aura light spins around them, Sun enchantments wait on the trigger for Mystic Colossus. It’s perhaps not the thing that makes the most sense against a solo opponent, but they don’t particularly care, it will be enough, and that’s all it needs to be. A gift from Darkmoor to remind Duncan who he’s dealing with.

And this time he is quiet and glaring—they can see the fear tick up with every buff they conjure. They don’t give him time to summon the Fiend, they don’t balk at the damage they take, they just wait on that single dose of Shadow and then—

The Colossus horn blares through the small room, ceilings barely tall enough to accommodate the spell.

And it’s over.

He’s on the ground clutching his staff to stay upright.

The wizard blinks.

Sees Lorcan in Penny’s projection. Waiting to be ripped apart.

It passes.

The spark of rage along with it.

Leaving guilt and regret sour on their tongue.

“I bet you think this means you won don’t you.” He spits it between heaved breath. Some of his bravado returned now that it’s obvious they’re properly finished. “You have no idea what the people on my side have planned. The Arcanum and their scholars chose the wrong side of the schism—and you’re all going to pay for it.”

The celestial calendar echoes through their head. A foretold moment passed. You’re going to regret this.

And they do.

Gods they do.

“Come with me.” They say again, quiet and dangerously close to a plea.

Duncan just glares back.

“Fine.” They spit, turning back to Malistaire’s desk. “Get out of here, go into hiding before anyone but me figures out what you’re tangled up in.” They don’t have any more energy to talk. But this time he listens. They hear it as he scrambles to his feet and the slam of the door follows behind him.

Silence.

Peace.

“Wizard?”

Dammit. Malorn.

Summary: Ah yes, from ghouls to werewolves and everything in between — come, indulge upon your feral desire to be fucked senseless by these beasts! All different types of monsters are allowed (angels, fairies, anything not HUMAN— oh my.)

To join: Simply send me an ask with the fandom and character you would like to write for along with the monster type. you do not need to be following me to participate!

Rules: dark content & nsfw is allowed, it’s also encouraged! however it must be tagged accordingly, you also must be 18 or older (age indicator in bio or you shall be blocked.) no minors <- this goes for characters too (they must be aged up to adults.)
