(Hot Sirius Charming Everyone😋)
Petunia was already not best pleased that her younger sister got to invite not only her new boyfriend, but also those other freaks from her school to the Evans' Christmas celebration. It gets worse when Petunia's own friends are all over Lily's handsome friend.
Wherever You Go, You Light Up the Room
Christmas Without You - Ava Max
Petunia was actually quite excited at first.
Her parents are hosting a lovely Christmas celebration back at their home in Cokeworth, and encouraged Petunia to invite as much people as she wanted.
Petunia finished high school earlier this year and is now working as a secretary, and it seemed like a perfect opportunity to invite her new co-workers, to get to know them better outside of work. She might even have invited her boss.
Petunia gets along great with her boss, and things between them are really picking up steam. Just last week, Mr Dursley had told her she looked very presentable, and the other day, he had almost called her ‘Petunia’ instead of ‘Ms Evans’. In return, Petunia had added two cookies instead of one when she brought him his coffee. She still blushes and giggles sometimes just thinking about how forward she has been!
And oh, Vernon Dursley is just such a proper man! Predictable, dependable, and oh, so delightfully normal! With Petunia’s younger sister always having been ‘the special one’, Petunia has resigned to being the normal one, embraced it even, and she’s going to be not just normal, but perfectly normal. Making her interest known to a man such as Mr Dursley, followed up by a few dates where he picks her up and drops her off at her parents’ house, him after a proper amount of time proposing when having obtained her father’s permission, and eventually her marrying him and quitting her job and moving out of her parents’ house to live as his wife just fits perfectly in that plan.
Inviting Mr Dursley to her parents’ Christmas celebration would’ve been a great way to get to know him in a different setting, and for her parents to meet him without putting too much pressure on it.
Of course, it was all ruined when she heard her younger sister was coming.
And not just that, because, all right, she could’ve expected her parents would invite their other daughter, but her younger sister’s new boyfriend and her friends are all coming! Her younger sister is in her last year of what she calls school, and Petunia had hoped she would spend the Christmas break with her boyfriend’s family. But no, she and those other freaks she knows from that school are coming to the Evans’ Christmas celebration.
There was absolutely no way Petunia was going to invite anyone from work when those people are around. She will not have her co-workers think she associates with freaks like that! Or have them know that she has a freak like that in her own family.
Of course, they can’t use their so-called magic when normal people are around, but she knows by now that those people are weird enough even without doing their nasty little tricks.
Yet, Petunia didn’t want to be alone at her parents’ party, and they won’t appreciate her missing the celebration, so she decided to invite her friends from school. She has been complaining to them about her weird sister, going to her school for weird kids, ever since they were children, so it’s nothing they don’t already know.
That’s how Petunia finds herself at the party with her parents, her parents’ friends, and her school friends Harriet and Edith.
At first, it’s quite nice, having lovely chats with relatives Petunia hasn’t seen in a while and old friends of her parents, sipping drinks with her friends. That is, of course, before her sister arrives.
“What was that?” Harriet clutches her necklace.
“Probably a car backfiring,” Petunia tries to reassure her, warily looking out the window where the loud bang came from.
Her suspicions are confirmed when a moment later, her sister and her friends walk in.
Lily looks stunning. She’s wearing an emerald green dress that matches her eyes and her dark red hair is hanging loose over her shoulders. She’s smiling brightly, her parents’ pride and joy, immediately the light of the party, and the centre of attention, as always.
And now there’s also the boyfriend.
Her parents think he’s oh, so charming, with his open expression and always that disarming grin, but Petunia thinks he’s just slightly too pleased with himself. It annoys her that even for her parents’ Christmas celebration he couldn’t be bothered to try and make his hair look decent. Even worse, it looks like he’s messing it up on purpose. At least he’s wearing proper clothes this time. When Lily brought him over for dinner for the first time, he had been wearing leggings and a bathrobe. He had been surprised at their reactions, and told Lily he went to a Muggle clothes store especially for her.
They sure love throwing that word around: Muggle. It always angers Petunia, no matter how many times Lily explains it’s not a slur, just a term.
Lily must’ve picked out her boyfriend’s clothes this time, as he’s wearing good trousers and a woollen jumper. Most of Lily’s friends luckily seem to know what normal clothes look like, except for two red-headed guys who seem to be wearing chestnut brown dresses. Well, they can pas for whacky art students or something.
While Petunia is thinking about how grateful she is she did not invite Mr Dursley, she vaguely registers hearing a motorcycle outside, but it’s not until Harriet’s and Edith’s simultaneous gasps that she realises another guest has arrived.
Petunia turns to the door, and almost gasps herself. She vaguely wonders if the young man walking in also didn’t know how to wear normal clothes, or whether he chose jeans that tight on purpose and meant to leave that many buttons of his shirt unbuttoned. She realises she’s staring, and quickly looks away, her cheeks heating up.
Harriet and Edith have no such qualms.
Harriet is leaning with her elbows on the table, her head resting on her hands, eying him up and down. “Now, that is a rare specimen.”
“And a fine specimen,” Edith agrees. “They don’t often make ‘em like that.”
Harriet hums. “Keep the candy canes, I prefer the eye candy.”
Edith fans herself with a napkin. “Is it me or had it suddenly gotten a lot hotter in here?”
Petunia is mortified at her friends acting so untoward, just at seeing a handsome man. Not that she thinks he’s handsome, of course.
The man looks around the room, and it’s surely unnatural to have hair that dark with eyes that bright. He spots Lily and Potter, waves and walks over, so if he’s one of them, Petunia supposes he is unnatural.
“Stop it!” Petunia hisses at her friends. “He’s one of those freaks from that school for deviants my sister goes to!”
Harriet rolls her eyes. “Hun, I wouldn’t have cared it he were a bloody werewolf, with cheekbones like that.”
The man walks past and Edith leans over to unsubtly watch him go. “Or a backside like that.”
Petunia scoffs as she takes a sip from her drink, trying very hard to not look at the handsome man’s backside. Not that she thinks he’s handsome, of course.
“Tuney? What’s wrong? Are you not enjoying the party?”
Petunia turns to look at Lily, giving her a hard glare. “What’s wrong? That’s what’s wrong!” She points across the room to where Harriet is giggling and twirling her hair around her finger so much Petunia is worried it’ll get stuck, and Edith is batting her eyelashes while leaning over the table so that practically the whole room can look down her dress, both of them chatting up Lily’s handsome friend. Not that she thinks he’s handsome, of course.
“Ah, yes,” Lily says, studying the scene calmly. “The Infamous Black Charm. Hardly anyone can resist. I’m sorry, I probably should’ve warned you about that. Don’t worry, though. I know just how to put a stop to it.”
Lily looks around the room and for a moment Petunia hopes she’ll turn Harriet’s and Edith’s hair blue, like she did to Petunia a couple of times when they were young, but she immediately pushes the thought away. She would never want Lily to use that awful magic of hers, especially not against her friends, it’s disgusting and wrong. No matter how much she would like to see Harriet’s and Edith’s hair turn blue.
But Lily does not grab her magic stick. Instead, she calls out “Oi, Lupin!”
One of Potter’s friends turns around. He really should’ve been hideous, with scars all across his face, but somehow, his warm honey-coloured eyes make him look sort of... sweet.
Lily points to where Edith is practically shoving her, admittedly quite impressive, bosom against Black. “Resolve that situation, please.”
A wolfish grin spreads over Lupin’s face. “My pleasure.” He marches towards Black and Petunia’s friends.
“What’s he gonna-?” Petunia begins nervously, but before she can finish her sentence, Lupin grabs Black by his collar, pulls him in and starts snogging him senseless. “Oh.”
Petunia stares in shock, and Harriet and Edith look on in bewilderment.
“What...” Black has to gasp for air once Lupin has pulled away. “was that for?”
Lupin smiles, pressing another quick, soft kiss on Black’s lips. “Just clearing something up.”
Harriet and Edith have joined Petunia at her table again, but she’s not sure if that’s actually a good thing, as now they can’t stop gushing about what a cute couple Black and Lupin make. She’s actually relieved when they have to get home. Her relief is short-lived, however, as Lily and her friends join her at her table.
“I’m sorry,” Lupin says, standing beside her, one arm casually wrapped around Black’s waist. “We didn’t mean to take your friends’ attention away from you.”
Petunia would think he was mocking her, but he looks so genuinely sorry and sounds so sincere, it’s almost difficult to snap at him.
Almost.
“I don’t need sympathy from unnatural freaks like you!”
“Oi!” Black protests. “We love each other! You can’t help who you fall in love with, and it doesn’t make us ‘freaks’.”
Petunia states at him. Then crosses her arms over her chest. “I don’t give a rat’s arse down whose throat you want to stick your tongue! I mean that unnatural and freaky magic, or whatever you claim it to be.”
“Oh,” Black says a bit sheepishly. “I’m sorry. I thought you meant because we’re two guys who... Well, you know.”
Petunia bristles. How did they get from her insulting Black to Black apologizing to her? It’s unnerving.
Luckily, Potter makes getting angry a lot easier. “Why do you hate Wizarding folks so much, Tuney?”
“You don’t get to call me that!” Petunia snaps. It’s only when Lily beams at her she realises how it must sound. Like it’s something special between her and Lily. Good god, she thought she had gotten over that when she was twelve. “You wizards think you’re so special, but you just always ruin everything! Like that senile old man who took my sister away to that freakshow he called a school, and even before that, there was this gross, creepy boy always lurking from the bushes when Lily and I were playing, always trying to get Lily away from me. He thought himself just so much better than me, because he was a wizard, and I was ‘just a Muggle’. You’d think that someone who doesn’t even know how to wash his hair wouldn’t be so arrogant, but he had an ego almost the size of his nose, that ugly git from Snape.”
There’s a silence.
“Oh no,” Lupin mutters.
“Here we go,” Lily sighs.
Huge, identical grins spread over Potter’s and Black’s faces.
“What?” Petunia shifts uneasily. “What did I say?”
At that point, Potter and Black appear on either side of her, both throwing an arm around her shoulders.
“Oh, Tuney,” Black says. “I think we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot.”
“Yeah,” Potter agrees. “I have the feeling that if we get to know each other a bit better, we’ll get along splendidly!”

They're a united front now, but it doesn't mean they always agree.
"How about Harriet?"
"Ew. No."
Travis frowns, even as he continues to rub Laura's sore feet. She's over thirty weeks in and enormous. She's been moody and unhappy, but Travis has been doing his best to keep her spirits up.
He owes it to her.
While his absence is far behind them, he has no problem groveling until the day he dies if he has to. Laura loves him. She forgave him. She's having their baby.
He can do no less.
Still, "What's wrong with Harriet?"
"I don't know - Harriet Hackett just sounds strange. I don't like it."
Travis slows his rubdown of her toes and looks over his shoulder at her, "So...they're going to have my last name?"
Laura looks a little startled, as if she just realized what she said. Travis swallows, "Because, I mean...we-we just started dating..."
"No, yeah. No, I know..." She looks unsure now and he turns to her fully, "I mean...I'm okay with them having my last name. But, it does have a bad history behind it. We can go with Kearney if you want."
Laura's lips twitch, "Well, I am the alpha in this relationship..."
"Ha, ha." He returns dryly and she gives an official chuckle, "Seriously though, I think it's okay for them to have your last name. We can start a new history for your family name. A happy one."
She notes a gleam in his eyes and he clears his throat before going back to her feet. Laura remembers thinking Travis was really cut off emotionally.
Turns out that's not true.
If anything, he's brimming with feelings, his current one a cross between happiness, pride, and tears. Such a secret softie.
"Alright then. How about Alexander? If it's a boy?"
"Again. Pass."
She can practically hear him roll his eyes, "You haven't liked any of the names I've suggested."
"That's not true. I liked Sam or Samantha. I used to have a friend with that name in elementary school. She was great."
'Okay, so...one?"
"Oh," Laura now rolls her eyes, "Like you've liked all of my suggestions."
"I haven't shot any of them down."
"What about Max?" She asks with a smirk. It was tossed out as a sick, dark joke she knows she shouldn't have made, but did anyway. The look he shoots her now just reconfirms that.
Regardless, she feels she's made her point, and just as she goes to settle back down she feels it. It's a full ache in her back, a tug at her belly and she frowns, confused.
But then it comes again, stronger, and she gasps, shooting upright. Travis looks at her in concern and Laura gasps, "I-? I think I'm having contractions."
His eyes go wide, "What? Now?"
"Mm hmm." She hums, a hand on her stomach and then there's another deep yank inside, like a menstrual cramp, but far worse, and she cries out. Travis looks horrified, "It can't be! It's too soon!"
"Well something is-nngah!" Is how it ends, because the next contraction is even worse than the last and she feels a cold sweat break out all over her body. Travis immediately gets to his feet, "Okay. Alright. Let's go."
He helps Laura up and does his level best to stay calm. Years as a police officer, even in a backwater like North Kill, must have helped, because Laura appreciates how he manages to get her from the house to the car to the hospital without freaking out once
However, once inside the hospital, as staff starts swarming around Laura, it's clear Travis is an emotional trainwreck.
He wasn't wrong.
It is early for Laura to give birth and she knows this even as nurses and her doctor talk her down, tell her everything is going to be alright. Yes, she's earlier than planned, but they're going to do their very best to take care of her and her baby.
The pain has ratcheted up to unbelievable levels and Laura is doing her best not to scream and failing miserably. She's calling out for Travis and someone keeps telling her why he wasn't allowed in but she could care less.
Her frantic shouts and panic must turn some sort of tide, because soon enough he is in the room with them and she's gripping one of his arms and crying, screaming, the pain immeasurable.
Laura lost an eye. She turned into a werewolf. This hurts far worse than those two combined. Her throat is raw from her cries and Travis is repeating her name gently and pressing his lips to one side of her head and holding her back just as tight as she is holding him.
The doctor tells her to bear down and push and she does - again and again and it feels like it's never going to end, this horrible misery and she's frantic about how the baby is doing and if they're okay even as she grunts and keeps doing as instructed.
Laura feels blind, deaf, and dumb in the throes of her agony but she thinks she hears something about the baby's head or their shoulders or how they're coming out, but it doesn't matter, because on the next struggling push she feels an unbelievable release.
All the stress and pain that had been beating down on her nonstop suddenly seems to rise as does a thin wail with it. Her baby's wail.
Travis is still holding her, but no longer is his face buried in her hair. Instead he looks at the tiny wriggling mass the doctor is holding and the nurses are all talking in awed hushes as both he and Laura hear, "It's alright. She's here, she's here."
"She-?" Travis repeats and the doctor lets out a windy laugh, as if he'd been holding his breath, "It's a girl "
Travis nearly collapses into Laura, Laura into him as they watch the doctor take special care of their itty bitty child.
There's a lot of talk about how, while she was born prematurely, the baby should be in fine health with the proper care. How while she's a week or two early that's better than some cases, she might just need more check ups than most newborns and so on.
Neither Travis or Laura really care or listen because all that matters is that their baby is alive. She's alive and she's with them and it feels like it takes forever (considering the baby has to spend some time in the neonatal intensive care unit), but eventually mother, father, and daughter are all together and alone in the hospital room.
Their newly born child is swaddled up against Laura's bare skin, their head resting on her breastbone and Laura's looking down at her with pure love.
Travis too, can't seem to take his eyes off his daughter and he has one hand resting on her back, his palm practically dwarfing her whole body.
Laura looks up at him and says, "Luna."
"Luna?"
She nods, "Like the moon."
"Yeah?"
Laura sighs, presses a very gentle kiss to her daughter's head, "It's how we met. Under the moonlight."
"Hmm. Not the best of meetings."
"True,"Laura sighs, "But one of the best things in my life came out of it."
Travis can't help but give an exhausted grin, "Her, I take it?"
"Yeah " Laura admits, "But you too."
Laura weakly reaches out for him with her free hand and he takes it, gives it a squeeze, even as he nods, "Okay. Luna."
He edges closer to the baby and whispers to her, "Luna Hackett."
Laura gives him a sleepy smile and he returns it. Luna, fast asleep but very happy, is unaware of her parents' smiles. She is also blissfully unaware of what an unexpected gift she is.
But she'll learn soon enough in time.

Hello, It has been a while since we have written an actual blog, so it is difficult to know where to begin on filling you in on our North American adventures. Lets start with the important stuff; we ate Sushi and Twinkies, we drank Amaretto Sours and Mountain Dew and we saw Ashlee Simpsons new nose. Then we settled in the lovely township of Quinte West to begin dissapointing everyone with our as yet unnamed noise concept debut. During our three weeks here we have learnt a lot about ourselves, mostly about Ollie and his wonderful Mary Poppins style of existance.
From this point forward this blog is called “An Ode To Ollie,” Ollie has embraced the town and has climbed up a mountain (literally not methaphorically) and surrended his wild locks to a local barber emerging an even more handsome version of himself. (At this point Ellen would like to add that she has also sampled the local hairdressers, unfortunately her experience was not as pleasant and she had to have her hair done twice due to a translation issue.) Ollie has also taken it upon himself to wash up, tidy, put away and cook and generally amaze us all with his Delia Smith/Martha Stewart/Nigella Lawson housekeeping ways. He has also upped his Oestrogen levels by doing the Nell McAndrew “Ultimate Challenge” workout dvd with the ladies of the house…Mr Motivator has nothing on him, so keep an eye out for “Exercising with Ollie Campesinos!” at your local Woolworths branch this Xmas. We have also celebrated a Campesinos! birthday whilst being here, with Harriet reaching the ripe old age of 22. There was wine, beer, nibbles (oh the nibbles), more wine, more beer and some champagne! There was also a tasty Tiramisu (lovingly prepared by Tom) here is a photo of it on Gareths face.
Tumblr media
Tom was slightly dissapointed to find that the crackhouse next door was being torn down during our second week, we have left him to get over this loss by encouraging him to visit the “massage parlours” which are dotted around town. We have been indulging in some wonderful tv treats, such as the brilliant and thought provoking America’s/Canada’s/Britain’s next top model, arrested development (hopefully that balances out the superficiality of the aforementioned programs) and have viewed one of the most heart warming, tear jerking and mentally demanding films ever to be made: the intellectually stimulating “In Her Shoes.” This film was not given enough credit when on general release, according to IMDB it wasnt even nominated for an Oscar! The “men” of the band have been watching football whilst playing football manager and talking about going to play football at the local football pitch. The recording has been going well, with good progress being made whilst consuming vast quanities of Dorito’s, Ben and Jerry’s, cookies and for the smokers of the band far too many Marlboro Lights (other cigarettes are avaliable.) There is also a rather disturbing sewn image of Barbar in the studio which has led us to not only question the moral implications of enforcing monarchical ideas in childrens cartoons but inspired us to make our most interesting work to date. Hopefully. Maybe. On that note, we’re off to see Superbad, coz it looks well good and Mr Beans Holiday finished yesterday before we had a chance to enjoy that visual feast. Gutted. Also, Ellen has lost her bank card and Aleks’ bank won’t let her take any money out so if any of you generous souls would like to wire some money our way it would be much appreciated. Can you still wire money? Anyway, thats it kids. lots of love and hugs from Alek, Ellen and everyone in the LC! camp

Harriet's House Appreciation || Prompt: Harriott Lewis
Harriet Lennox's character was inspired by Harriott Lewis, who was the first black bawd in London. She was born in Guinea and shipped to Jamaica as a slave, where she was purchased by a plantation owner named Captain William Lewis. Lewis sexually abused Harriott and fathered her two children. Lewis brought Harriott to London as his mistress in 1766, where she socialized with the English elite. While in London, Lewis died of smallpox, leaving Harriott penniless. Harriott was brought to the King’s Bench debtor’s prison. Her admirerers paid off her debts and she became a very highly paid sex worker after her release. She opened a brothel in St. James which allegedly employed only black women. Her clients were said to include 20 members of the House of Lords and 50 members of the House of Commons.

What I Read in July 2021
Oh, man, this is gonna be a long post. I bookmarked 33 fics, all of them Harry Potter related, with a few cross-overs.
Forget-Me-Not by Lomonaaeron *favorite*
Plot: Harry isn’t the Boy-Who-Lived, but his parents still died, and Albus Dumbledore, concerned that Death Eaters might seek the boy’s death, cast a powerful charm on him to make wizards ignore him before Harry was left with the Dursleys. Except, with the Elder Wand in play, the charm was far too powerful, and made others essentially forget Harry existed when not directly interacting with him. Sorted into Ravenclaw at Hogwarts, Harry lives a contented life with no one either loving or hating him…until the charm breaks on his seventeenth birthday, and he’s suddenly plunged directly into the middle of a living world at war.
Characters: Harry, Theo Nott, Dumbledore, Neville, Ollivander, Lupin, Rabastan Lestrange, Ron, Hermione, Draco, original non-human characters, Peter Pettigrew, Umbridge
Relationships: Harry Potter/Theo Nott
Warnings: none apply
Tags: ancient runes, socially awkward Harry Potter, Ravenclaw Harry Potter, Harry Potter is not the boy-who-lived, angst, romance, horcruxes, muggleborn registration commission, blood magic
My Notes: I inhaled this in one sitting and then cried for like 10 minutes afterwards, it’s so beautifully written, it became an instant favorite
*complete*
He Turned Around by ChipOfftheOldSoul *favorite*
Plot: When the Goblet of Fire spit out Harry's name that Halloween night, he was told to join the other champions. Instead, he turned around and walked away.
Characters: Harry, Snape, Draco, Ron, Hermione, Victor Krum, Cedric Diggory, Fleur Delacour, Pansy Parkinson, Blaise Zabini, Crabbe, Goyle, Daphne Greengrass, Fred & George, Marcus Flint, Millicent Bulstrode, Tracey Davis
Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter; Harry Potter & Severus Snape; Draco Malfoy & Severus Snape
Warnings: implied/referenced child abuse, mentioned homophobia
Tags: book 4, good Severus Snape, good Draco Malfoy, good Slytherins, smart Harry Potter, Dumbledore bashing, manipulative Dumbledore, past child abuse, runes, slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers, Slytherin Harry Potter, Hogwarts House re-sort, no Ron bashing but he’s not great for a while
My Notes: I’ve already read this twice in less than a week period and I cannot wait until it’s updated (hopefully it’ll be updated) and I absolutely love the way it’s written and Harry’s characterization. I also very much appreciate that there won’t be Ron bashing, I’ve read too many Ron bashing fics, but I am here for all of the Dumbledore bashing!
*incomplete* [last updated June 2021]
Stars by LilyIsAwesomerThanYou
Plot: When Snape discovers Harry's abusive past during an Occlumency lesson, Harry panics. Snape is forced to take care of him in the aftermath. Mentor/guardian fic. As always, no slash.
Characters: Harry Potter, Severus Snape, Dumbledore, Ron, Hermione
Relationships: Gen
Warnings: implied/referenced child abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempt, depression
Tags: Severitus, angst, drama, past abuse, hurt/comfort, mentor Snape, guardian Snape, occlumency
My Notes: Snape is a dick in this one, and so far he has not gotten any better, just a warning, but there’s some great Harry angst going on here (that’s why I bookmarked it). Yeah, Snape is pretty evil in this one, there’s some victim blaming and just straight up verbal abuse from him.
*incomplete* [last updated 2018]
violet hill by rejectedreality
Plot: Where Harriet Potter is Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes’ soulmate.
Fandoms: Harry Potter & MCU
Characters: Bucky Barnes, Harry Potter, Steve Rogers, Hermione, Ron
Relationships: Bucky Barnes/Harry Potter; Steve Rogers/Harry Potter; Bucky Barnes/Steve Rogers; Bucky/Steve/Harry
Warnings: implied/referenced child abuse, emotional/psychological abuse
Tags: fem!Harry Potter, soulmate-identifying marks, age difference, angst with a happy ending, it gets worse before it gets better
My Notes: this is so, so, so fucking beautiful! I am straight up in love with this fic, and I am so sad that it hasn’t been updated for a few years because there was so much potential. There are some hints at underage couples, as Harry’s 15 while Bucky and Steve are adults, but nothing actually happens.
*incomplete* [last updated 2017]
trapped in a blue haze by MourningElegance
Plot: “And in that moment, Draco knows. He knows that all his deep-rooted suspicions about Harry’s childhood are terribly, horribly true.” As their relationship grows, so do Draco’s misgivings about Harry’s past.
Rating: Explicit!!!
Characters: Harry, Draco
Relationships: Harry/Draco
Warnings: explicit sexual content, implied/referenced child abuse
Tags: established relationship, smut, porn with plot, explicit sexual content, fluff and angst, hurt/comfort, cuddling, post-war, post-Hogwarts, auror Harry Potter, POV Draco, character study, sickfic, epilogue what epilogue, injury
*complete*
From the Dungeons by huntersg1rl
Plot: One conversation goes slightly differently. How much does it change? Features a caring Snape, supportive Malfoys, strong friendships, and Slytherin Harry.
Characters: Harry, Draco, Blaise, Pansy, Daphne, Snape, Narcissa, Lucius, Sirius, Remus, Pomfrey, Dumbledore
Relationships: pre-Harry/Draco; Severus Snape & Harry Potter
Warnings: implied/referenced child abuse
Tags: Slytherin Harry Potter, Good Severus Snape, good Lucius Malfoy, good Narcissa Malfoy, manipulative Dumbledore, POC Harry, animagus transformation, wizengamot, politics and culture
My Notes: YA’LL! This one is so cool! It’s going under some major maintenance at the moment, so it’ll be a bit of a wait until it gets going again but I recommend reading it immediately before the changes get enacted. I don’t want to spoil anything, but Harry’s a BAMF in this series, especially when we get to book 3
*incomplete* [this is a series, first three parts are completed, last updated February 2021]
Fighting for Freedom by dreamsofmermaids
Plot: At the end of a horrific fourth year, Harry overhears something on the train back to London that sets in motion a series of events that will reveal truths, change decisions, and send Harry on a path to true freedom. But nothing comes without a fight.
Fandoms: Harry Potter & Criminal Minds
Characters: Harry, Snape, Aaron Hotchner, Spencer Reid, Jason Gideon, Emily Prentiss, Sirius Black, Voldemort
Relationships: to be announced (I know, I’m sorry, I hate this too)
Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, major character death, attempted sexual assault, implied/referenced child abuse, suicide attempt, kidnapping
Tags: Dumbledore bashing, Weasley bashing, Hermione bashing, Harry runs away, Snape bashing, not so evil Voldemort, trouble magnet!Harry
My Notes: this one is really good and it features a Harry and Dobby friendship. I’m gonna spoil it right now, Hotchner is Harry’s dad, I hate it when it doesn’t state it in the tags

The heir of something or other by diregewithoutmusic
Plot: When kids in the Slytherin Common Room tossed jeers at the pudgy feet of Millicent Bulstrode, Harry rose up to do something about it. This Harry, now one of Snape’s own, got fewer House points lost but many more detentions– it had never been the colors on his hem that Severus hated. This was not wishing Harry an easy path. This was not wishing the boy a warm House. This was Harry, three weeks in, sleep deprived and considering running away and going back to Privet Drive. This was Harry in the back of Potions class, blank-faced under Snape’s disdain the way he’d perfected under the Dursleys’s torments. When Quirrell shouted “troll in the dungeons, thought you ought to know,” and Harry overheard that there was a girl in the bathroom crying, he still ran off to make sure she got out okay. He hesitated first, at the back of the little pack of Slytherin first years (at the back so that no one could get behind him)– he hesitated. And Millicent Bulstrode, who could never quite keep her tummy tucked in enough, could never brush all the cat hair off her robes, never quite keep her temper in check, hesitated, too.
Characters: Harry, Millicent, Colin Creevey, Hermione, Dennis Creevey, Luna, Ron, Draco, Astoria, Daphne, Pansy, Neville, Susan Bones
Relationships: gen
Warnings: major character death
Tags: Slytherin Harry, canon typical violence
My Notes: this made me cry. It like actually made me cry. I don’t cry when I read fanfiction, but this one actually made me cry, it’s been two weeks and I still feel like crying thinking about this fic, but that being said it’s written so beautifully.

Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, suicidal thoughts, minor character death
Tags: Severitus, present tense, powerful Harry, Snape is Harry’s biological father, unhealthy coping mechanisms, independent Harry
My Notes: wow this one made me so mad for Harry. Sirius and Remus are not Harry’s friends, nor Dumbledore. Be warned, as good as this fic is, you will be very angry at all the adults in this fic. Snape isn’t a loving father type, and their relationship isn’t the greatest but it’s better than nothing by the end.

A rushed, impulsive trip to America changes his entire life as he might have just found himself a true family to call his own.
Characters: Harry, John Winchester, Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Bobby

Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, implied/referenced child abuse, attempted sexual assault
Tags: Awkward Winchesters trying to deal with Harry, cinnamon roll Harry
My Notes: The dynamic between Harry and the Winchesters shouldn’t work this well, but they absolutely do. Harry is a little Sam, he acts so much like him it’s so cute and everyone finds it so cute. Really great amount of angst and hurt/comfort. Doesn’t deal with the wizard side of things that much but I expect that’ll change in the upcoming chapters. Author has stated they don’t know if the Winchesters ever will find out that Harry’s a wizard, however, so keep that in mind

February 7, 2021: Emma. (2020)
Another late one, people! Tomorrow might be a bit later, too, full warning. Like I said, school’s back in session, and I got students to teach and class to prepare!
Tumblr media
When I was a kid, I was a pretty avid reader, mostly due to my mom’s drive to get me to be an avid reader. I read Shakespeare from an early age, which might be why I like it so much, and why I remember it so well.
I also read Jane Austen’s Emma when I was 10 years old. On a related note, I remember none of Jane Austen’s Emma. On another related note, I’m fairly certain that I saw its most famous adaptation, Clueless, and I don’t remember that either.
Tumblr media
I’m tempted to rewatch that one, since I don’t remember it AT ALL, but I figure that I’m going to place a more direct adaptation of the work first on my list of priorities. And so, one of the ONLY movies to come out last year is one my list, starring an up-and-coming “it girl,” Anya Taylor-Joy.
From what I can tell, this is a fairly popular movie on this platform, so I’m looking forward to watching it, despite knowing NOTHING about it, other than the fact that it’s a romance drama, and based off of a classic British novel by Jane Austen. Shall we? SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap
Tumblr media
Emma Woodhouse (Anya Taylor-Joy) lives in the 1815 English countryside, with her father, Mr. Woodhouse (Bill Nighy), and her caretaker, Mrs. Taylor (Gemma Whelan). However, this is about to change, as she is to marry Mr. Weston (Rupert Graves) that day.
Emma is a sweet girl, who seems to be ale to predict things to pass. She also set up the present marriage, although she seems not to want one for herself. However, she also seems interested in the whereabouts of Mr. Taylor’s son, Frank. He never shows up, though.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Woodhouses are visited by George Knightley (Johnny Flynn), whom her father favors, and whom Emma seems to clash with. And Imma call it now: they totally end up together in the end. I mean, c’mon.
Emma’s trying to replace Mrs. Weston nee Taylor as a governness, despite the fact that her father doesn’t want it. Emma finds Harriet Smith (Mia Goth), a young women whom she goes to school with, and apparently might be the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman. She’s also interested in setting Harriet up, as Emma prides her skills as a matchmaker.
Tumblr media
However, Harriet’s already interested in a local farmer, Robert Martin (Connor Swindels), but Emma’s trying to set her up with a local vicar, Elton (Josh O’Connor). They go to meet Mrs. Weston, and Emma introduces herself to Elton, who she believes likes her in return.
The next day, Emma and Harriet go to the store, where the gossipy busybody Miss Bates (Miranda Hart) comes to speak with the VERY unwilling Emma, and the considerably more interested Harriet. Miss Bates is speaking up her niece, Jane, although Emma certainly doesn’t seen to care nearly as much as Miss Bates thinks she does.
Tumblr media
On the way home, Harriet and Emma encounter Robert Martin, and Emma's definitely not a fan of that potential relationship. Instead, she regularly puts down Mr. Martin, and talks up Vicar Elton.
Tumblr media
As Elton and Harriet begin getting closer, and Emma seems to be vindicated in support of the relationship she set up, Knightley’s...not impressed. In a conversation with Mrs. Weston, he basically says that she gets high on flattery, and while she isn’t necessarily a true narcissist, she still NEEDS approval from her peers and others. That’s why she’s setting up Harriet, who feeds her constant flattery.
In addition, her whole “never going to get married” thing doesn’t seem to fly with George, here, who’d like her to fall in love with someone who isn’t...well, a simp, let’s be honest here. And honestly, this is already an interesting character dissection, and I can dig it.
Tumblr media
Knightley complicates matters for Emma, when he convinces Martin to write a letter, asking for Harriet’s hand in marriage. However, due to Emma’s subtle manipulations, she convinces Harriet to refuse the proposal, despite the fact that she clearly wants to say yes. And while Emma might be beautiful, and quite smart...yeah, she’s a bitch. Or, at the very least, she acts like one for her own benefit.
Knightley, pissed off about this whole thing, confronts Emma about her manipulations, and states that Martin might be the ideal match for Harriet. After calling her out, and warning her that Elton miiiiiiight be a bit of a ladies’ man, and that he’s certainly the wrong match for Harriet in the end. Emma admits that she mostly wants to keep Harriet for herself.
Tumblr media
Autumn turns to Winter, and Emma’s older sister Isabella Knightley (Chloe Pirrie), and her husband John Knightley (Oliver Chris) (and George’s younger brother) come to visit Emma and her father for the holidays. George and Emma make amends, although Emma still won’t admit that she may have been wrong.
Christmas Day comes, and Harriet is sick, while Frank Churchill once again neglects to appear at the house of his father and new wife. George berates his neglect of his familial duties, while Emma argues in his favor, obviously harboring a crush on him still.
Tumblr media
At dinner, Elton makes a remark about snow, causing LITERALLY EVERYBODY to leave the party prematurely, and Emma’s father accidentally leaves her behind. Elton, however, offers to give her a ride in his carriage. And in the carriage, he reveals that not only does he actually love Emma, but that he doesn’t care for Harriet at fucking ALL. Fuckin’ WHOOF.
Looks like Elton’s misread EVERY POSSIBLE SIGNAL, and Emma FUCKED UP SOMETHING FIERCE. Harriet is quite saddened by this, and is about to destroy a portrait of herself that Emma made for her. However, Emma instead keeps it. Elton disappears for a number of weeks, just as the niece of Miss Bates, Jane Fairfax (Amber Anderson) suddenly reappears.
Tumblr media
At dinner, it’s revealed that Jane appears to know Frank Churchill, as they live in the same place. During a piano performance of Jane’s that’s WAY BETTER than Emma’s performance, it’s also revealed that Emma’s been compared to her all of her life, giving her some fat, fat insecurities!
After an awkward encounter with Mr. Martin, Harriet goes to the Martin household to visit his sisters. Meanwhile, the long-awaited arrival of Frank Churchill (Callum Turner) comes, and Emma is unsurprisingly smitten with him. He asks her for a dance at an upcoming dinner, and she accepts.
Knightley is, of course, not impressed with the worldly gentleman. Meanwhile, someone has apparently delivered a pianoforte to Jane Fairfax, and it’s pretty goddamn obvious that it was Frank Churchill. Although, it’s possible that it was George Knightley, who’s been matched to her by Mrs. Weston.
Tumblr media
And it’s at this point that I should point out that GODDAMN THIS IS A SOAP-OPERA OF A MOVIE. The hyper-detailed intentions and events, all happening within the confines of high society and etiquette are both overly intricate, while also managing to be...weirdly enrapturing.
The next morning, after a six-week absence, Elton’s come back to town with brand new wife, Augusta Elton (Tanya Reynolds) in tow. Augusta matches Emma’s passive-aggressiveness measure-for-goddamn-measure, which, yeah, PISSES EMMA OFF.
Tumblr media
But it’s still good news on the horizon, as Frank’s appearance has prompted the Westons to hold a ball. While Emma and Frank seem to be getting along, Elton is prevented to opportunity to dance with Harriet, only to refuse LIKE AN ABSOLUTE TAINT. On the verge of tears, Harriet’s rescued by George, and they dance alongside the rest of the partygoers.
Emma shows his appreciation for this, and Knightley returns his appreciation for her friendship with Harriet, who’s way goddamn better than Augusta. The two decide to dance together, and the two basically fall in love RIGHT GODDAMN THERE AND I AM GODDAMN HERE FOR IT.
Tumblr media
Which sucks, because I’m, what, a little more than halfway in? No way it’s this easy.
Tumblr media
And as Knightley and Emma realize their feelings the next day, they actually run towards each other, SEE each other...and then get iterrupted by Frank carrying Harriet post-her being attacked by muggers GOD FUCKING DAMMIT REALLY?
Plus, it looks like Harriet might be in love with Knightley now, after the previous night. HowEVER, since the previous night, Emma is now in love with Knightley, and believes that Harriet’s feelings are directed towards her rescuer, Frank Churchill. But Frank’s in love with Jane. Like, for sure he’s in love with Jane. And Knightley’s in love with Emma, although Mrs. Weston believes that he’s in love with ane, as he leant her his chariot the previous night, although he DIDN’T do that, and the chariot (and piano) must’ve come from Frank, who’s actually in love with her, not Harriet, as Emma believes. YOU GOT THAT? BECAUSE I’M ASTONISHED THAT I DO
Tumblr media
Summer comes, and there seemingly no major changes to the love lives of our main characters. Can’t say that for George’s mansion, as he’s unveiled all of the paintings in the place.
Tumblr media
Might be wrong about the progression of relationship thing, as George and Harriet appear to be getting along, and Emma and George suddenly...aren’t. And THEN, Jane tells Ema that she’s feeling super down at the moment, and leaves. Which is when Frank shows up, which Emma appears to not be super happy about.
Later, at a luncheon, Emma takes out her emotions upon Miss Bates who, while kind of annoying during the film, doesn’t deserve the insult lobbied her way by Emma. Afterwards, George DESTROYS her, and she...she gets it. She’s been an asshole.
Tumblr media
After a good cry, she goes to apologize to Miss Bates, who immediately forgives her, as she tends to do. It’s also pretty quickly revealed after that that we find out that Frank has ALWAYS been engaged to Jane, since he arrived to Highbury. AND, Emma finally findss out that Harriet’s in love with George, not Frank. Which...yeah, Emma’s not a huge fan of, for obvious reasons.
However, Emma points out that George might have been trying to get Harriet involved with Mr. Martin, but also tries to step back. However, Harriet RIGHTLY calls her out this time, bringing up the fact that Emma fancies George, and that it’s because of Emma that she refused Mr. Martin. And Emma finally gets it. ALL of it.
Tumblr media
George, hearing of Frank’s engagement, goes to comfort Emma in her time of distress. And after railing out Frank for his lying ass, he starts to confess his true feelings to Emma. But she tries to stop him, but THERE AIN’T NO STOPPIN’ LOVE BABY
And as he STRAIGHT-UP PROPOSES to her...her nose bleeds and she says no.
Tumblr media
Finally, it’s confirmed that George was speaking on Mr. Matin’s behalf, not his own, and Emma pledges to make things right herself. She delivers the painting of Harriet to Mr. Martin, and he proposes to her. Harriet accepts, and has also finally heard from her father, who isn’t a nobleman at all, but a shoemaker. Emma still invites them over to their estate, and the two make up as friends.
Tumblr media
And speaking of making up, George and Emma also make up, and the two are officially engaged to be wed. And it’s honestly...quite lovely. Which describes the whole film, which comes to a close.
Tumblr media
WHEW. Now THAT...was a Recap. See you in the Review!

Late episodes watch again...sigh meetings.
Lucas is a better actor than Paul. Haha. I was surprised to see him so much today. But I’d rather watch him than Harriet so...you know. Every cut to Harriet in the cellar is just more and more ridiculous. Can’t the whole house just collapse on her or something?
Covid really does make these fight scenes terrible. Plus Paul yelling at Vinny to wake up but not being able to shake him awake. It would have been better if they’d shown him backing up and then standing further away being like “oh no what did I do?” or something instead of just standing there shouting at him.
I’m so tired of Paul’s stories though. I just want him dead and gone. I need Mandy to murder him. Or whatever. He can go join Harriet in the cellar and the house can collapse. I’m really not all that picky. I’m just tired of the nonsense.
I’m glad Aaron managed to have a 30 second cameo in both episodes today. Good for him. Haha. I did actually like that scene with Mandy and Liv though. And that’s the kind of sibling interactions that I think work between them. Where they’re both reacting to insane family or village stuff. I do like that Aaron was just unreachable later though. Probably had the VR headset on again or something. Who did he go to town with though? Sam? Who else would there possibly be? Cain?
I do enjoy Liv reacting to all the sex talk because...same. That close up of the drink when she passed by on the way to the hospital was odd though. Was that supposed to mean something? I do hope that now that Vinny’s been hurt she’ll start actually being suspicious of Paul and not trying to defend him all the time because I’m very tired of them using her for that.
Chas was UNBEARABLE for most of this episode. God I just wanted Charity to smack her. Childish was one word for it. Like Charity is there, she’s signing over the pub to Marlon, she’s doing all you asked of her and you’re just standing there gloating and rushing her and talking about how terrible she is. Honestly, she was a monster today. I mean, I don’t want them to be like this so I somewhat appreciated that end scene with them but too little too late lady. Charity should take year to forgive her for her behavior, not the other way around.
Marlon was sweet though. I liked his scene with Charity and I like that he actually asked her what was next and tried to be encouraging. But yes, it is absurd that he has to be nice to her in secret to escape the wrath of Chas. He better not let her push her around with the pub.
I like that Faith ruined Moira’s relationship with Mack and is now like “but you have to forgive him!”. I am glad they’re going to have her try though. Although I’m not sure moving him immediately back into the farm is the answer. I would have let him stay at the B&B or something for a week or two and then had them work towards that. I really don’t know what their plan is with all of this because again, it’s like “okay here’s the big secret!” and then “now what?!” Crime...I guess the answer is crime...with Aaron. Haha.

Between (Fred Weasley x Slytherin Reader) - Part 2
Tumblr media
PART 1
Synopsis: Y/N Y/L/N never quite understood why all these things always happen to her. Nobody understood why she was put in Slytherin. But in her fifth year at Hogwarts, many things were cleared up. Your parents, your friends and also, that one should not be named, all these things explained the why. Her blood was stained, but she could not disagree more with the philosophies that made it like this. Between blood and love. Y/N had to make a choice.
Warnings: angsty; flirty.
Reader: Female
Words Count: 2.6k
Author's Notes: I'm sorry for taking so long to post this chapter, now I promise I'll try to post a new one every Wednesday. And of course, if you want to be taged in the next chapter, just reblog this! Also, get a little inspiration from The Riot by @ickle-ronniekins, a amazing imagine from a amazing writer.
Finally the vacation was over, Y/N could be one of the few witches from that school who was happy to return to Hogwarts. The girl couldn't stand to spend another day at her home. Her parents had been getting more and more rigid since the Malfoys' visit, what Narcissa said made them think about how they were raising their daughter. And overnight, Y/N was forbidden to talk about her friends who were not pureblood, and along with this rule came some amendments, which included not being able to put pictures of them in her room, or send letters. Family dinners became a must, and at every dinner, there was always a topic about blood responsibilities and how important it was. The girl had been so irritated by her parents' attitudes that even Cedric's death prevented her from starting discussions with them. There were several during the weeks that passed until classes returned.
Y/N will never tidy up her stuff as much as she does now. The girl angrily stuffed her things into the suitcase. The reason was a comment from his cousin about Muggle-borns and how a pureblood wizard could have the courage to marry one. It seemed to Y/N that the frequency of commentary on this sort of thing had increased near her. She put her green scarf inside the suitcase, and then closed it. She had just finished packing all her things, she was ready to leave her home as soon as possible. Only Brownie was missing, her dark brown owl. The girl chose this name because she found the word play between the color of her owl and the food funny, since good, if one thing her owl liked to do was eat. Then Y/N went down the stairs towards the owlery at the bottom of her house, near the greenhouse.
"Where are you going?" Y/N heard her older cousin, Margot, calling. The girl had brown eyes and long, dark blonde hair, all in a very thin and very tall body, and now she was in her seventh year at Hogwarts, Slytherin too. Y/N always thought that her cousin was a bastard daughter of her uncle Hanz. Considering that his uncle had brown hair and his wife, Amelia, was a redhead, but he always preferred not to comment on the matter. "Going to feed the muggles that I hide from you in the basement" Y/N replied sarcastically without even looking at her cousin and went on her way to the owlery. As it was beginning to get dark, any light that was on was easily noticeable, so Y/N couldn't help seeing the stove lights on. The only person who went to that place was Grandma Harriet. And without thinking twice, he changed his course a little and entered the greenhouse. The place had a high rounded glass roof and followed a straight corridor, also made of glass, for at least 20 meters.
- Grandmother? - Y/N asked curiously entering the greenhouse.
- Close to the aconite, honey - A voice came from the bottom of the greenhouse.
Y/N walked to the place where her grandmother kept the aconite. Grandma Harriet was a very superstitious lady, in her granddaughter's opinion, she read The Quibbler a lot. So inside the greenhouse, she had plants to fight any kind of threats, from a huge craving for pumpkin juice, to a dangerous werewolf.
- Grandma, the only werewolf I've ever seen was not exactly what you could call bad people. - Y/N said when the grandmother goes to prune the seedlings of aconite (plant that leaves a tame werewolf).
- Worry is never too much, when will you understand that, Y/N? - Grandma replied without taking her eyes off the plant with a half smile on her face.
Y/N didn't answer anything, just crossed her arms and laughed through her nose.
- You know my love, I noticed that you are more impatient than usual lately - The grandmother said finally looking at her granddaughter.
- Yeah, I believe I am more out of patience than usual - Y/N replied sitting on one of the wooden stools nearby.
- Can you tell me why?
- Isn't it obvious, Grandma? Look how my parents are acting! As if having no muggle in the family makes us better than others! As if muggles were disgusting people! I don't understand, I don't agree, and I'm very, very angry! Damn it, Grandma! One of my best friends was born muggle! - Y/N calmed down and took a breath before speaking. - I'm not like our family, Grandma ... Right? I'm not, right? - She took a deep breath again - I know I'm not, but ... I was put in the Slytherin ... What does that mean?!
Grandma Harriet smiled sweetly, she was, until then, the only Hufflepuff of the family, since the first of her at Hogwarts, when the first Y/L/N was drawn in a house that was not a Slytherin, they practically aborted the girl of the family.
- A very wise man once told me that it is our choices that reveal who we really are, much more than our qualities. You know Y/N, you were drawn in the Slytherin, not because of the blood, but because you are selfish, a little manipulative, you go over everyone to get what you want and you can be quite cold.
- Thank you very much for the part that touches me. - Y/N replied sarcastically.
- Did I say sarcastic? - The two laughed - But you are also ambitious, you are not afraid to take risks, you are a born leader, and we know very well that you have a certain appreciation for breaking the rules. You are not bad, my love, you are by far the most admirable person in this family. You know what your faults are, and knowing that, you choose to go against your own nature, because you know that it is not always the best thing to do. This shows me how amazing you are and you couldn't be in another house.
Y/N couldn't hide the smile that went from ear to ear. That was why Grandma Harriet was the most knowledgeable person in this family.
***
Y/N had been on platform 9 3/4 for a while. She always arrived 20 minutes in advance, she thought it was safer, she didn't want to risk missing the train and not being able to go to school. Then, passing by the station wall, she saw the scene that she loved so much, parents saying goodbye to their children, several owl cages and cats passing by people's legs, first years with sparkles in their eyes. The first year was the part that she liked most of all, it is no wonder that Y/N was a Slytherin monitor. In the sea of black cloaks she managed to spot a short girl with armed hair, she knew exactly who she was. And she didn't think twice before running towards her friend.
- Hermione! - Y/N just screamed out of everyone there.
Hermione looked back to see her friend running with a huge smile on her face. He was happy to see that Y/N had not died during the holidays, as she simply stopped responding to her owls.
- Y/N! Where have you been? Didn't you receive my letters anymore? - Hermione said hugging her friend.
- Oh Mione, you have no idea how things are at home, my parents are still going to kill me smothered - She laughed letting go of her friend.
- Wow, Y/N, is it that bad?
- You have no idea.
The two had continued to talk while searching for the cabin where Harry and Ron were. The boys had come in earlier to get a good cabin. The two found them and sat down together, Y/N on Harry's side and Hermione on Ron's side, facing each other. The trip started as usual, Hermione talking about the new books, Harry very quiet, probably due to the events of last year and Ron? He stuffed himself with chocolate frogs. Y/N was listening to her friend while drinking a pumpkin juice that her grandmother had given her before leaving. It was all very common, until a couple of red-haired boys hurried down the hall and locked themselves in the cabin of the four.
- What is this?! - Ron said very angry because the knocking of the twins on the floor made him drop his chocolates.
- We threw a stink bomb in the cabin of some Slytherin boys - said George.
- And they are not very happy with the result - Completed Fred, now looking at Y/N, well, she was a Slytherin - No offense.
- I'm not offended, most of them deserve it - The girl laughed when she saw 3 huge slytherin boys very angry pass through the corridor.
- You are perfect, you know? - Fred completed smiling at the girl.
"I know," Y/N replied with a wink. Everyone felt something strange in the cabin, and it definitely wasn't the stink of the twins' bomb.
- Did you hear the rumors about the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher? - Said Hermione.
- All I know is that the Ministry has been boiling after Dumbledore since ... - George started to say but did not want to be inconvenient with Harry or Y/N.
- Okay, you can tell what happened, everyone already knows the truth - Harry replied George somewhat dryly.
- Well, I heard that the ministry is going to send someone inside to Hogwarts this time. - Hermione concluded.
- I really hope not, Fudge is not what we can call a sensible person, he just denies the facts! - Y/N replied.
- I agree with you, Y/N, but I don't think Dumbledore would let anyone like that in - Ron replied, placing the last chocolate frog inside.
- That is not in his reach, Ron, as much as he is director, he still reports to the Ministry.
Sometimes Y/N was impressed about how much her friend knew. Not that what she said is absurd, but she speaks so naturally ... The girl was left wondering how breakfast conversations should be at her friend's house.
***
The rest of the way was as usual, unfortunately they had to split up when it was time to sit at the tables. Y/N then sat at the Slytherin table, alone, and in less than 5 minutes a blond boy and his entire troupe sat next to Y/N. The selection started, Y/N was happy to receive the new Slytherin students, especially one girl in particular who reminded her very much of herself. She had Y/H/C hair and Y/H/Cut, the only thing that differentiated Y/N from the girl, were the green eyes that the little one had, Y/N's eyes were Y/E/C, pulled from her mother. The two would easily pass for sisters. The ceremony followed, and it turns out that Hermione was right, Dumbledore introduced the new member of the teaching staff, a short, fat lady dressed in pink, who they discovered was Dolores Umbridge. She worked for the Ministry of Magic. Y/N was not much with the woman's face, she had a bad feeling about her.
At the Gryffindor table the feelings were the same, none of Y/N’s friends had liked the new teacher very much. But the thoughts of one of them were a little further away. Fred couldn't stop looking at Y/N, the two had been friends for years, ever since the girl entered Hogwarts, but this year, she had something different, she couldn't explain what it was.
- She will end up thinking that you will curse her if you continue to look at her like that, Fred - said George taking a piece of chicken.
- What? I ... Ah, I can't say, she is different this year, George - He finally answered stopping to face the girl and putting food on his plate.
- Yeah, she’s beautiful.
- Yeah ...She is, but that's not it yet. She looks ... distant. We have to do something, brother.
When dinner was over, Y/N was ready to escort her group of first year students to the common room. Leaving the room and heading towards the dungeons, where the Slytherin common room was located, Y/N was guiding the newcomers when Fred and George stopped her halfway.
- Darling, we have something for you - Fred said with a huge smile on his face.
- I think you will have to deliver me later, I'm kind of busy here - Said the girl pointing to the various little faces in front of her.
- How could I not notice before! George, we are facing customers right here - Fred smiled at the children in front of him.
- You are certain, my dear brother.
That said, the twins made as much propaganda as they could about their magic and different sweets, the children heard in wonder about the sweets that the boys talked about. Y/N has always admired how the twins had this gift, of making anything look enchanted. They spoke with passion.
- And I swear, it leaves you with pears to skip class! - George finished saying while Y/N waited.
- Can I take them to the common room now? - Y/N said impatient, or at least trying to pretend her best impatient face.
- Now ... You can, we'll give you your gift later. - George said. - Come on, Fred?
- Come on, George - Fred replied. - Ah, I almost forgot! - The redhead said and went to Y/N and kissed her on the cheek. - See you tomorrow, love.
Y/N was a little unresponsive, not what she felt when Fred gave her a simple kiss bye. The children giggled and some whispered things that Y/N couldn't understand. After the beautiful propagation of the Weasley twins, the girl finally took the children to the common room, and told them the password. Entering, the girl watched the faces of the children, it was always incredible to see her reaction when she saw that the windows looked out on the lake. He showed her where the female and male dorms were, and finally sat down in front of the fireplace, her job as a prefect was over.
“A lot of mess?” Y/N heard a familiar voice sit beside her on the couch.
- Not as much as I would like. - she replied, looking into Draco's beautiful gray eyes. - But the most beloved twins at this school did their advertising, and now the first year boys are dying to eat the gum that never ends.
Draco frowned, he didn't like the twins.
- I know you don't like them, Draco, but I do, they are amazing and very talented people - The girl continued to say looking at the friend beside her.
- They think Muggles are like us, Y/N! - Draco said impatiently without looking directly at his friend, stood up. - That's not how your parents raised you! You better than anyone should understand this! - The boy said and left his friend very angry and disappeared from view.
Y/N didn't understand, didn't understand why Draco was so submissive to his parents. The fact that the boy didn't argue with them, even when he didn't agree, drove her crazy. But no one, not even Draco Malfoy, spoke to her like that. The girl didn't wait twice and went up to her dorm, probably angrier than her friend. He lay in bed in anger that night. Who does he think he was to speak that way? Spoiled boy ... Fred would never do such a thing. Wait ...Fred? Since when did she compare Draco to Fred?.

A Hat in Time - Victorian AU
This idea has been jumping around in my head for literally weeks.
Its a Victorian AU inspired by works like Jane Eyre and other Capital “R” romantic novels from the time period.
Please feel free to ask questions! I’m having lots of fun with this.
I’m also not sure what to call this AU - suggestions are appreciated
There is going to be a LOT of information below the line, read at your own risk!
Setting:
On the north side of Subcon forest, there is a small village and, just outside of it, is a prestigious manor owned by the Arelius family. The manor is over 100 years old, and has many nooks, crannies, and secrets.
Basic Plot:
While living and working at Subcon manor, ever adventurous Harriet Timms finds a secret staircase leading down to a secret room where a man was chained to the wall. Not knowing anything about him or the manor, she begins to befriend the man - who she calls “Snatcher” after he takes her food that he was willing to share. Meeting him starts a domino effect that will reveal the dark secret of the Manor - and perhaps put the poor girl in more danger than she realizes
Main Characters:
Harriet Timms
Tumblr media
An 8 year old Orphan who was “given” to the Subcon Manor after being deemed “unadoptable” by the orphanage where she lived due to her rambunctious personality. She does cleaning and other menial chores along with Mu, and while being pretty high energy, does manage to win people over with her bright smile and surprising kindness. In this AU, her “Hat” is a thick, satin ribbon that she ties into her hair every day and decorates with pins.
Lady Vanessa Arelius
Tumblr media
The lady of the manor who runs it while her husband is “away” on a world trip (he has been gone for 3 years at this point), she has an undercurrent of menace to her, and has a very, very short temper. She seems nice at first, but being on the other end of that short temper will teach you quickly to listen to her. She can and will gaslight you, yell at you, and then the next minute will apologize. She’s clearly hiding many secrets.
Lord Lukas Arelius
Tumblr media
After a simple misunderstanding, Vanessa locked him down in a hidden room of the manor to “teach him a lesson”. She visits him every day and tries to get him to admit his wrong doing, but the years of isolation have made him bitter and nihilistic - claiming that he would rather die down there. He has not seen anyone but Vanessa in years, and isn’t too keen on naive little visitors... at least at first
Morgan Uldenreich
Tumblr media
Or “Mu”, for short. She’s 11, and has worked at the Manor since she was 7 years old for similar reasons to Harriet. She hates going into town whenever the “Mafia” is coming through - and she connects them to the scars on her face, which garnered her the mean nickname of “mustache girl”. She seems deathly afraid of Vanessa, but also clearly craves validation and approval from the lady of the house
Cecilia Carlile
Tumblr media
Or CiCi, and she is more often known, is the head cook of the manor, and also manages the children that live and work there. She’s pretty headstrong and will butt into your situation if she thinks she can help. She’s fiercely protective of the  children in her care and has been known to snap - even at her employer. Why she hasn’t been fired isn’t much of a mystery. She’s perhaps the best cook in the whole of northern England
Markus Arelius
Tumblr media
Lukas’ twin brother who lives in a larger city about a days trip from Subcon - he runs the family law office. He dearly misses his brother and - while suspecting that Vanessa is not telling him the truth- tries to trust the woman whens he tells him that Lukas sends his regards. He only meets Harriet once during a visit to the manor for business purposes, but their conversations lead Harriet towards the final confrontation with Vanessa - kind of.
Side Characters (references to come!):
Damien Jacob Graves (DJ Graves)
A formerly traveling musician, he currently works at the Canary theater as the head musician under the owner and director (See below). He’s pretty laid back, and loves taking the shit out of this man who can’t fire him because he’s the only person willing to work with him. He’s one of the few men left that knows how to play a hurdygurdy - a surprisingly useful skill
Richard “Conductor” Connors
The owner of the Canary Theater (called “the dead bird”  by locals - who find his plays to be rather dark and violent even for theater at the time), Richard is a retired train operator who lives out his crazy stories on the stage. Despite his very prickly exterior, he is a devoted family man who spends almost all of his free time with his daughter and her children. He finds an appreciation for Harriet’s energy and is in some ways her first friend in Subcon
Delilah Munchen
The local florist in Subcon. She is somehow able to make both the natural flowers of Subcon look beautiful, and grows extremely rare flowers in her small greenhouse. She also makes decorative dried flower pins in her spare time, and gifts some to Harriet to decorate the ribbon she wears in her hair.
Beatriz “Bow” Santiago
A girl who Harriet befriended back at the Orphanage. They were practically sisters, and Harriet promised her that she’d come back one day and they’d both run away. She’s holding Harriet to that promise - gifting Harriet with the ribbon she wears.
The Mafia
A gang that wanders around Subcon forest. Before Lukas "left”, he’d managed to chase them away, but they’ve been making a comeback in the village since he disappeared. They cause nothing but trouble and no one likes them
“The Dwellers”
A group of people that live on the edge of the village, are known for superstitious beliefs and prophetic sayings
“Subconites”
What the citizens of Subcon proudly call themselves - this includes the other employees who work in the manor

If I Can Be So Bold: Chapter 1 (Jack White x OC)
Tumblr media
Summary: Rosalie and her band “By Elliston” move from Nashville to Detroit to continue their music careers and move away from their demons. Rosalie notices an unhappy face in the crowd of their first show, and is instantly drawn to him. While she doesn't mind that hes easy on the eyes she does mind his less than stellar attitude about their music.
Word Count: 3K
Warnings: Drug use, language, and mentions of abuse.
Notes: Well this has been brewing for A WHILE. I’ve been everywhere deciding on a plot, but after tedious planning this is finally a reality. I hope the 5 Jack White fans on here enjoy this. This will be a series so strap in folks. We got young jack. we got old jack. we got everything in between. (also series names are hard) Enjoy! Appreciate all the research i did!
Chapter Two
“Do you want another?”
He holds his hand above me, his dark eyes burning holes into me, he pulls back more as if ready to strike again. As if on command, I recoil from the movement, feeling smaller than I ever had.
My head shoots up, suddenly back in Zoot’s coffee house. I blink a couple of times, trying to wake myself up. I couldn’t remember what she asked.
“What?” I asked her, phasing back into reality again, and not what was a horrific nightmare.
Sat next to me was my best friend and singer in our band was Harry, or Harriet if you want to be technical. Her head was held high, and she was practically jumping out of her skin with excitement, she seemed more than ready for our first show in a new town.
She moved one of her two shots in front of me and asked again.
“Are you deaf, Lee? I asked if you wanted another shot before we go on.”
I quickly sat up and grabbed it off the makeshift bar, anything to shake off what I was feeling.
We clinked our drinks together, and she yelled out a toast over the crowd of people behind us.
“To fresh starts and new stomping grounds!”
We clinked our drinks and quickly downed them, both of us coughing from our burning throats, but as soon as we saw our red faces, we burst out into laughter.
“We are horrible at shots, aren’t we?” I said in between wheezes of laughter.
“We truly are.” She paused and grabbed the bottle. “One more for good luck!.”
It seems like this is the night, if any, to drink.
We’d just gotten to Detroit. Like just got here a week ago and are already booking shows. We all decided to move her for reasons I won’t mention, but I’ll just say that we needed to switch up our scene a bit.
Our band “By Elliston” had grown pretty big in the Nashville scene, we played pretty frequently at the Exit/In. Which is not the biggest venue in the world, but it means something for the Nashville scene. I mean, we technically shared a stage with Muddy Waters and BB King, so that’s at least something to brag about.
We were known in the Nashville punk scene and had made some significant headway, but thanks to shitty people and our big egos, we decided to move to Detroit. Known for its great music and cars.
And here we are at Zoot’s Coffee shop, which is arguably a coffee shop honestly. Off a dark street, that no person with money would venture down, and the outside seems like nothing is out of the ordinary, it’s just a house on a street. But the inside. Its a home, its a coffee shop, and venue for anyone who has an instrument.
Its packed wall to wall with people, barely any standing room, especially near the stage, which is just a raised corner of the living room. Its the perfect venue for any rock band. Small and loud.
We (being the band and me) all lived for music, and it is our life’s blood.
I grew up in a very southern home and was always surrounded by music, thanks to my dad. Id never met a man who loves Johnny Cash more than him or country music for that matter. Cash would always play through the house, or Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings. That kind of thing. However, I can’t stand to listen to any of them now. Overplayed and over appreciated is what I always said.
That did spark something in me. I started playing guitar, thanks to my dad… and then I picked up the bass and then drums. And so on and so on. The moral is that If you hand me any stringed instrument ill know how to play it.
The other girls. Jo, Harriet, and Ezra. All got into good music when they were in high school, which also when we all met. Thanks to the high school band or orchestra. I played violin, as did Jo and Harriet, Ezra played the stand-up bass and continues with the bass to this day.
Now we’ve all moved on the from hot cross buns and into a world of rock and roll. We used to be terrible, covering a lot of Alice in Chains and Nirvana.
Graduating class of ‘93 for all of us, and we lived in a world of grunge. Five years later and we’ve since moved on from our teenage ways. We’ve embraced the blues and everything around it. However, we get a bit heavier than our inspirations, with my heavy fuzz and Harriet’s raspy yelps. With the look of punk dads (a lot of fun button-ups, dark makeup, and Dr. Martens boot) and the sounds of 4 angry ladies, we tore up Nashville.
We played a lot of house shows, met many a band, lost many a group, met a dumb boy who won’t be named (its John), and had a lot of fun tearing up the Nashville scene.
As we grew, we played bigger venues, the show of ‘96 at The End being the staple of our career. We’d never played as good as we did then, and none of us are convinced we’ll play as well as we did that night.
Either way, we were thrust forward, and our movement grew, we were making money from our shows, plus we played bigger venues. The Exit/In and The East Room, to name a couple. Last month we felt we needed a change of scenery to grow. As incredible, the Nashville scene is, its also quite small. Few venues and fewer people. That’s the other girl’s excuse, at least.
We scrounged up what we could, found an apartment here, and moved as soon as we could. Unlike the others, I had to burn some bridges to get here, but more will be made here. We scooped out the scene the moment we arrived and set up a show here, and we are all buzzing to perform again.
“So, who are we opening for again?” I asked as we headed to our van to start and unload our gear.
“The White somethings.” Jo absentmindedly answered, wrapping her jacket around herself for warmth.
Harriet quickly cut in, “The White Stripes, you mean.” Correcting her.
We all arrived at our shared van and started grabbing our mess of cables and cases.
Harriet continued, “I’ve been asking around all night about them, you know. To learn about the enemy and such.”
Jo popped her head up from the front seat and asked, “When have you had the time to ask around? I was with you literally all night.”
Harriet picked up her small load for the night and parked a seat on the car next to ours, lighting a cig while she sat.
“I have my ways.” She said, wiggling her eyebrows before taking a long drag.
“Anyways, here’s what I’ve learned. They’ve been around a year, the drummer learned when they got together, and guitarist leads the show.” She spoke with her ever-present dramatics, waving the cig around after every word.
“They can’t be that good if the drummers new, and they’ve only been playing a year.” Said Ezra, who was effortlessly carrying what seemed to be the world’s most massive bass amp.
“I don’t know, Z. It seems agreed that they know how to rock a room.” Harriet pipped up.
“What does it mean for us then?” Asked Jo who’s joint was lit and already in her mouth, and arms were full with various drums. Explains why she was digging around the front seat.
I quickly cut in, not about to let them get nervous over a baby band. “Absolutely nothing. We’ve got six years on them. These Detroit kids won’t know what hit them, we’re from music city for god’s sake.”
“That’s the spirit, Lee!  Now get your asses inside so we can set up.” Harriet popped off the car and started walking towards the door, beckoning us towards her.
“Feel like helping us speed up the process, Harry?” Joked Jo.
“You’re big girls. I’m gonna go try and spot the enemy.” She yelled back to us.
“Oh, have fun, we will just be here carrying your band!” I yelled out.
“I knew I could count on you, darling!” She called out, throwing a wink and cigarette butt our way.
When we had finally reached the stage, the already crowded room had doubled in bodies. While most bands would be shaking in their boots, it only spurred us on more. While we all have our fair share of disagreements, we have one thing in common. Our shared headspaces before a show. All ready to take on anything, and our confidence is unwavering. The bigger, the better. It’s honestly what’s kept us together this whole time.
Now all eyes were on us, and it was a tough crowd, it was dead silent. The girls and I all exchanged a look and nodded. I always started us off. We had a set opener, it never changed and worked every time, but after that was a free for all. I usually took charge and just chose whatever I was feeling, but if not me, then Harriet. The other two just flowed with whatever we threw their way.
I always started first with the heavy riff, joined in by Ezra, then Jo, and finally Harriet.
The riff is what pulled them in, and it was always quite the sight. I got fully into it every time. It was dark, straightforward, and full of fuzz and feedback.
By the time Harriet joins in its mayhem, I speed up and play power chords. It’s not slow, but it’s not so fast that it’ll make your head spin.
As the short show progressed, we felt like how we used to feel every night. Pure joy, which is what we all fucking needed.
We improvised. I mashed up whatever songs I even threw in a little Stooges to thank the locals for letting us play. Though I did notice the gaze of one oddball in the back, who was just… watching.
While that doesn’t sound weird, it was sure out of the ordinary. He sat in the back, arms crossed leaned against the wall. The whole mysterious boy schtick was down pact. He wasn’t scowling, but he didn’t seem happy. It was off-putting and kept my focus over towards that corner of the room, but didn’t hinder the performance. Maybe it fueled it.
The show couldn’t have gone better, though. The crowd did not hide their whoops and hollers when we finished our last song of the set. I was already riding that performance high and will be for the rest of the night.
“Thanks for a great first night, Detroit! We’re “By Elliston,” and we hope to see you next time!”
Screamed out Harriet for a final goodbye as we headed off the stage, their applause carrying us off the small stage.
The moment we put down our instruments, we about took each other out, tacking one another to the ground.
As tradition carries, after every show, we used to just aggressively group hug, but over time we’ve grown more and more… excited. At one of our last shows at The Exit/In, I accidentally knocked out Jo by slamming into her too hard. If that gives any frame of reference to what our dog piles look like now.
“Ladies. If every show goes somewhat like that here, I think we will rule this scene.” Ezra said from the bottom of the pile, her words garbled from the mass of bodies.
“Alright, Lee, get your ass off the top, you’re gonna snuff me out down here.”
Without much warning, she slid out from underneath us, and the rest of us went down to the ground, causing all of us to erupt in laughter.
Once we all straightened ourselves out, we went to the van and had a celebratory cig, the first of many “celebratory” cigs of the night,
To my right was Harriet leaning against the tail light, and Jo and Ezra were sitting in the van next to me. Harriet broke the silence.
“You know I missed this, Lee. I’m glad you’re back.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean Har-” While talking I’d noticed three figures a few cars over walking to their own. My eyes widened in surprise. I grabbed Harriet’s arm suddenly and dragged her in with the rest of us.
“Shut up. It’s him.”
“What I wasn’t even talking-” she stopped and sat up to face, she wasn’t upset, but she sure looked confused. “Wait, who is “Him?”
I looked around to check to see if he could hear.
“I saw him when we were playing. He kept just… staring at me. It was weeeird.”
“Why’d you pull me in the car then??”
“I panicked! It was just weird!”
Ezra peaked her head out of the car in curiosity and asked. “Which one is it, the young blondie or the black-haired beauty?”
“Gah Jesus, not the child, Ezra! It’s the hot one.”
Harriet whipped her head out of the car to look at them, speaking a bit too loudly.
“Lee, you need to start off saying it was a HOT stranger! You have my interest now.”
“I’m going to kill both you. Get your dumbasses back in the car.”
We huddled back up, Harriet has a look in her eye that I don’t like.
“So, what’s the plan of action here, Lee?” Asked Harriet.
“Nothing. He’s a scowler. Sure a hot one at that, but if he can’t enjoy what we make, then what’s the point? When we played that stooges song, he looked like he was going to blow his top.”
“I think you’ve missed the point here, Lee. Point one,  You’re fresh out of a toxic sludge of a relationship. Point two, hot stranger. And finally. Point three, he’s a hot stranger in a band. I’m not passing up this opportunity.”
She gave us a wink, took a final drag of her cig, and hopped out of the car. She was going over to them.
“Harriet, you fucker don’t you dare,” I said with gritted teeth. “I’ve tackled you once today, and  I’ll do it again.”
She chuckled. “You’re all talk, kid. I’m off to make friends!”
“Bastard!” I yelled, leaping out of the car and towards her. I was too late, she just about ran over to them, and I was quickly in tow behind her.
“Well, look at that, Lee! New people. Hi there, I'm Harriet, but you can call me Harry. and this is Rosalie.” She extended her hand towards the three strangers.
“Its Lee actually, she’s just an asshole.”
All of them looked slightly taken aback. They were sure as hell wasn’t expecting her hand in their face, or two random ladies in their space. The newly named “hot stranger” was the first to speak up. He seemed rightly hesitant.
“I’m Jack, and this is my sister, Meg. This over here is my nephew, Ben. He’s our pinball wizard. Or Roadie in technical terms.”
“Well, good to meet Y’all!” Once she shook ben’s hand, he spoke up. Man he was young. Was he maybe 16? Not over 18 is the point.
“You guys played a hell of a show. The Stooges? Blues? You’re going to give these two a run for their money.”
Jack shifted on his heels when ben mentioned this. Same face as before, and little less friendly than introductions.
“Well, its all that Tennessee blood in us. Now we arent from Memphis, but Nashville’s close enough, right?” Harriet winked at the kid. His cheeks flushed a deep red.
Jack shifted his eyes back to me, but they wander somewhere else.
I clear my throat, he snaps his head up and makes eye contact with me, a small smirk falls on his face.
“Well, you all seem busy, so Harriet and I are going to go back over there. Have a good show.”
I grab her arm and try to drag her away casually.
“What the fuck are you doing?” She whisper yells to me. We find ourselves on the other side of our van, out of their sight.
“Lee, You have never been one to shy away from new people. Especially men. Remember us, fresh out of high school? You practically had a different man in your bed every night. That whole nervous persona is new. Go seduce a hot stranger!”
“Jesus, Harriet! Lower your goddamn voice! First off its Jack, And yes I know. Different times though. I’m not going to go over there in front of his sister and prepubescent nephew to try and get in his pants.”
“Aw, come on, Lee! It’d be fun! Plus, you need a fucking rebound, girl.”
“Okay, well, talk me into this when its not a family reunion.”
“You got yourself a deal, Rosalie.”
We started to make our way back to the other girls.
“Alright, ladies, let’s go catch our headliner,” I said, opening the van doors. A plume of smoke rolled out of it the moment the doors opened. I grabbed the joint from Ezra, taking a hit before going inside. I handed it back to the faded bass player and headed back inside.

Grey's Anatomy: Tradition (17x15)
Sometimes Grey's Anatomy has something really true and good to say, but they say it in a hokey sort of way. This episode had a lot going on that kinda... jumped the shark in terms of the cheese factor for me. Let's dive in.
Cons:
First of all, Jackson's last episode was kind of a letdown. It was only in seeing it that I realized how disconnected he felt from most of the remaining leads on the show. He had a personal goodbye with Jo, which I liked, and was probably the moment I felt the most connected to Jackson leaving. But when he was talking to Meredith, it occurred to me that these two haven't had any intersecting story-lines that really mattered in years. They kept showing flashbacks to Jackson in his earlier days on the show, surrounded by people who are all no longer there. He doesn't feel woven in with any of the core cast. Then, he drives away at the end, his last conversation as a regular cast member happening with Koracick of all people? I don't know. It just felt like an anticlimax to me.
And speaking of Koracick, was this his exit from the show as well? He's moving to Boston? What a bummer. I've genuinely enjoyed his character so much, and I feel like there was so much left to explore with him. Putting him in a room with any other character really enlivened a conversation. He brought such different energy from any of the other characters. What an unceremonious end, if so. If not, I hope he's a character that pops back in here and there, maybe updates us on Jackson, April, and Harriet. That could be a nice compromise.
Say it with me: I don't like Owen and Teddy. Jesus, I just do not care. When I saw them kissing I literally said "noooo" out loud, and it's not because I feel anything about them as a couple and I'm "against" it or anything, it's more just the "noooo" of realization, that we're going to have to spend time with these characters again, and all the shittiness that they bring out in one another.
That feeds into a smaller complaint, which was that I found it very odd that Owen was telling Link that he's going to be trapped at Meredith's house, even now with Meredith going home. It was like... weird guy banter, and Winston was there too, and it was like all the men having a laugh at Link's expense... I just found it really uncomfortable that Owen was the one doing this, when Owen and Amelia have such a fraught (and annoying) history. I don't know. Maybe that's a nitpick.
So now we go to Grey's Anatomy having something good and true to say, but pouring on the cheese just a bit too much. The story about respecting native traditions and how often they have bad experiences in big hospitals was a perfectly adequate one, but it was told in a paint-by-numbers fashion. I almost wanted something a bit more nuanced, like maybe some genuine distrust from the patients instead of everyone being 100% nice and pleasant and nothing going wrong. A happy ending for this story was much appreciated, but it felt like a rote way of telling a story and exploring a theme. Still, it's good that they bring attention to issues that a lot of people (read: white people) want to ignore.
Pros:
There were lots of things I enjoyed seeing in this episode, even if the whole thing didn't come together for me.
Like, for example, Koracick's speech about being privileged and wanting to be an ally. Like, really step up and really help out. This was another moment of potentially hokey writing, but the performance sold it, and I liked that Jackson accepted it for the genuine offer that it was.
I also like seeing Jo thriving in her new specialty, with Carina as a potential mentor, although she might be leaving the show? Or at least not around as much anymore. Over on Station 19, evidently she's gotten engaged, so... good for her! And Jo talking to the baby in the NICU, the one she's totally going to adopt, made me really emotional. I want only good things for Jo!
Nico was nowhere to be seen this week, after Levi left him in the lurch after his "I love you" a few weeks back... but we do see that Helm is really struggling, and Schmitt wants to help her out. This was a small little thread, but I do like the idea of Schmitt and Helm living together. It continues on my thread of what I sort of wanted for Levi, where if they're doing a romance with Nico, Nico needs to sweat about it for a bit first.
Meredith is back! She spends the episode with people coddling her, nervous to tell her about Andrew's death, saying goodbye to Jackson, and getting to go home and reunite with her kids. All of it was perfect and wonderful. The moment when Bailey and Richard come to tell her about Andrew, Meredith seems to suddenly know, and we hear the sound of crashing waves in the background. That was just lovely. And she and Jackson's conversation was great too, although I stand by what I said about Jackson's final moments on the show not quite working for me. But it was fun, a Grey and an Avery, these two important legacy families, talking about what they learned from each other, and what they taught one another.
And then of course Meredith is home, Amelia is freaking out because the house is a mess, and Meredith says it's perfect, just the way she wants it. She eats donuts and her kids tell her everything she's missed while she was away. I'm really impressed with the way the kids have felt like more of a presence in the past season or so, and I hope that continues to be the case.
Richard is going to officiate Maggie and Winston's wedding! I felt so many warm fuzzies in my heart over that little moment. Richard worrying that he'd overstepped, and acknowledging that the relationship boundaries between himself and Maggie had always been a little uncertain. And then Maggie and Winston asking him to be the one to marry them to one another... oh gosh. This show can still really get to me sometimes. That made me happy.
I think if I had to say my overall thoughts on this episode, I'd say a lot of the things that happen have implications that I don't enjoy. But then watching some of it play out, I did like it. So the way Meredith reacted to the news of Andrew's death was really touching, but I'm still pissed that Andrew died. Jackson had a couple of solid moments, but overall his swan song didn't hit the mark. Koracick's speech was decent, but the fact that he's apparently leaving is annoying.
So yeah. Grey's still has plenty to keep my attention, but this episode wasn't one of the greats!
7/10
