Ache

A short trip to the city; making a pitstop at Laura’s apartment to drop off and pick up some necessities. They were planning on going on a hunting trip upstate.

They were walking back as the streetlights turned on, stomachs warm and full of good food from one of Laura’s favorite local spots.

Everything was normal.. well, normal for them until;

“Laura, what-“ Travis is shoved back, irritation rippling through him as the smaller blonde pushes him into the alleyway. He opens his mouth to continue but gets cut off.

“Just go with it-“ And with that, she stretches on her tippy toes and pulls him into a kiss. She steps into his space, her boots scuffing his, and places a trembling hand on the side of his neck to hold still.

It starts soft, something just for show. The older man is stiff and unmoving, but then he begins to melt. Laura feels his large hand tentatively touch her hip, before it clambers to her back in fear.

“Laura?!” A voice echos off the walls of the brick buildings surrounding them, “Please, I just want to talk-“

Travis is lost in the kiss and starts reciprocating.

He feels his face flush when she gently meets him, their tongues hesitant as they explore each other. He feels younger, feeling her hand slide up his cheek and into his hair. Her fingers scratching an itch he’s had for years; affection.

It’s short lived.

She pulls away, her cheeks warm and rosy but her eyes aren’t on him, they’re watching the redhead stalk away into the crowds of people.

“Thanks,” she finally says as reality settles around them, the sounds of the city becoming louder, “I didn’t want to talk to him- I’m.. not ready for that yet.”

“Yeah,” Travis clears his throat, and wills his gaze away from her. His heart feels heavy and aches, “..No problem.”

The village has a tradition: a girl is chosen as a sacrifice to the Wolf. The Huntsman leads the Chosen into the woods and keeps vigil at the entrance. 

The girl does not come back. The Wolf stays away.
