First spotted in numerous episodes of Harlots‘ first season, this gown was used by Samantha Morton who portrayed Margaret Wells in the series. Then it was recycled in the 2022 film Chevalier, appearing on an extra.

I remember in the show Harlots, they say they're raising their son to be a boxer (I think?) as that's a semi-legit line of work for a kid born into a sketchy situation.
I bring this up because imagine if "The Artful Dodger" was his prize fighting name and Fagin goes "Hello small child, welcome to FAGIN'S GYM where you're going to get PUMPED UP and KICK ASS IN THE RING!" Bill Sykes is the way he is because he accidentally invented steroids.

Okay I’ve been having this idea in my head since I binged this show in 2020. The show is called Harlots. Quick synopsis is that it’s based in 1760’s England, and the plot is about madams or bawds as they commonly called them back then and their stable of girls posing as boardhouses because prostitution was illegal there. I guess it still is, I’m American so I can’t say for sure.

But this is how they dressed! I love it all. It’s Rococo style which is extra and maximalist and feminine. Back then, the goal of these women were to find a suitor who really cared for them and made them their mistress which would make them a kept woman and they would have a semblance of protection from these men as well.
My OC would be a runaway. A formerly enslaved woman from the American colonies specifically from the Lowcountry who picked indigo. She’s stunning and quick witted even though she can’t read, and is a true survivor. She escaped from her massa and seduced a captain of a merchant ship sailing back home to England and she finds her way into one of these “boardinghouses”. She fits right in until she encounters a Black man with status who is looking for some loving and you can guess what happens from there!!

i can't remember if i posted this to my old blog but it’s important so either way i am going to post it here as well: hallie rubenhold (historian who covers sex work, author of ‘the five’ and ‘the covent garden ladies’ — which was adapted into the show ‘harlots’) follows julie bindel, a radical feminist journalist from the uk, who is sex-work exclusionary, and one of the Big Names™️ in mainstream british transphobia.
