IM BACK BITCHES!!!

Alright, here's the design stuff:

I wanted to go for kind of a Lois Lane vibe, including the way she gets all the way up in business she should not be up in. At the same time I wanted to bring the super cutesy gothic lolita style in at least a little. So I ended up going with a poofy short jumpsuit with bows and teddy bears. I would love to make a specific thank you to @themooncallsyou for suggesting I look at the Moschino 2022 spring line for inspiration, it ended up having a very heavy impact on the final design.

I tried to lean into the investigative part of investigative reporter, so that's what the heavy coat is about. I thought adding that classic detective silhouette would be a nice final touch. Plus, I think Blondie likes the drama of the coat flying behind her as she's chasing down a lead. It makes her feel very cool.

Alright, so her original pet is a bear cub named Grizz but I have. Several problems with that. The main one is that it's not clear what the difference between Grizz and the actual sentient bears and her story is. There is never any differentiation between them. It's a Goofy-Pluto situation. Like it doesn't need to be explained, but the minute you start thinking about it too hard it gets weird real fast.

Anyways say hello to Honey the magpie!! Magpies are great mimics and lovers of shiny things, so I thought one would be a perfect fit for Blondie. She repeats bits of gossip and steals little trinkets and clues to help Blondie with whatever case she's on. Honey is where Blondie gets her infinite supply of bobby pins. Her scale is a little off, I don't think magpies are actually that big, but I still think she's cute so I'm not changing it now lol.

Now for character stuff:

Honestly I'm not really changing anything as much as I am exploring what's already there. I think Blondie has the potential to be really interesting, because she's unique within the class system of the school. She's kind of the inverse of Raven status-wise. Raven was born to royalty, but because her mom is the Evil Queen she's actually considered a commoner by society. Blondie was born to a wealthy commoner family, but her fear of rejection leads her to exaggerate the prestige of her lineage. Everyone sort of knows that she's not a Princess but she's so desperate to keep up the image of royalty that no one knows where she actually lands. Most of the royals assume her parents are Lord and Lady or Duke and Duchess or something. In reality they don't have any noble title, and Blondie is very insecure about that.

Blondie isn't so much ashamed of her family as she is terrified of exclusion and rejection. Her standing in society is the one major thing that makes her different from all the other royals, but she has major anxieties that she's always on thin ice. In her mind she's permanently one wrong step from total ostracization.

On a happier note, she does have a genuine passion for journalism! She considers her news blog/podcast practice for her future career. She starts out discussing school drama and gossip, but tries to stay a neutral third party. That's why her hair is so big. It's full of secrets. As the story goes on she starts reporting on more political and social topics beyond the boundaries of the school (and therefore becomes one of Milton Grimms worst nightmares). She is really, really, really good at getting into shit people do not want her to get into. She's got her eyes on prize and good luck stopping her

I see a lot of beginner tips on the internet that seem to be for people who have already gotten started, how about some tips from someone who has no idea where to start at all?

Tips for Witches Who Haven’t Even Started Yet

Heads up this guide will be designed assuming someone has learned modern witches are a thing, is interested and maybe wants to be one, but has done none or very little research. First let’s go ahead and get rid of some COMMON misconceptions people come into my DMs with when they’ve barely begun...

There are all things you do not have to do to be a witch:

Do evil things or be a “satan worshiper”

Be a specific religion, because witchcraft is not a religion

Work with deities or spirits of any kind

Be a woman, witch is a gender neutral term

Be Wiccan or Pagan

Pick a witch type

Spend a lot of money

Be in a coven or know other witches

Have a big or pretty altar, grimoire, ect

Have tarot cards or any tools for your practice gifted to you

One final disclaimer Another thing to go into your research with that you may not know if you’re just starting at the very beginning is that there are many paths, practices, belief systems, ect besides the eclectic form of witchcraft I teach here and that you will commonly see presented online. I feel a lot of people may benefit from a more structured, or different path. Keep an open mind. You might come across something more fitting. So if the above is all false, are there any rules? The only rules I ever push around here are have an understanding of what you’re doing and its consequences, and do not appropriate from closed practices! Okay, so I read all of the above, now what? If you don’t know where to start at all? Research. Research is always where you should start. That sounds overwhelming and may be something you’ve already seen a few times but it could be as simple as a google search to start and I will be here to make it as simple as possible with this guide. Also as usual my DMs are always open if you have questions.

Onto how to do that research... First here is a google doc full of links I’ve compiled that may give you somewhere to start! With that, here are some suggestions for what to research.

Follow your interests For someone who has just begun I would highly suggest following your interests. What I mean by that is if anything interests you, keep googling, try Youtube maybe, check if your library has books on it, ect. Take notes on what it is, why it interests you and what you find. There are tons of practices and subjects witches study so just keep learning at your own pace and incorporating what works.

If you need somewhere to start, here’s some general topics I’d suggest:

Types of magical/Pagan practices

Cleansing

Charging

Grounding

Warding

Banishing & binding

Divination types

Tools & ingredients

Closed practices

If you’re stuck hopefully doing some searching on the above topics will get you down a rabbit hole of interest. Below is also a bunch of info on how to do GOOD research. Doing good research is very important to me.

Research tips Think critically and ask yourself questions like this while researching:

What are the qualifications, motives and biases of the person giving me this information?

Who recommended this source?

Is anything they're implying or advising here a threat to my or someone else's safety or health? Do I know that this suggestion is safe?

Does this line up with other things I know to be true? Like science, other factors about witchcraft, your beliefs, ect. Beliefs won't dictate fact but often in witchcraft personal belief is the only thing that will sway you towards one answer or another.

Does it make sense? Like logically does it make sense to you? Why? Just ask yourself why. Ask them why. Ask them for sources or an explanation.

Have I seen someone say this before? How often? Apply the above questions to that source or sources as well.

Here are all my other general research tips:

Take time to take things with a grain of salt. Try not to categorize them as right or wrong until you're absolutely sure.

Cross reference everything you find. The answer you see the most is likely right.

Understand that many things are up to personal belief and for many questions the answer will be "Depends on the witch." Both answers might be correct. This path is yours and often you have to dictate how things will work.

Check out your local library.

Use books that aren't marketed as being about witchcraft or the occult. Folklore, local flora and fauna, nature, botany, gardening, foraging, geology, these are all useful subjects.

Ask real, experienced witches. Do not rely on them as your soul mentor and ideally and contact multiple witches or groups, but do ask.

Don't worry about making a fancy grimoire or book of shadows or having all the correspondences in the world written out. That's the least of your worries, take notes on the essentials and things that interest you personally. Some things to include are the subject, date & source of what you're reading.

Take notes, here’s how I mentioned note taking in there and I definitely have more to say on that! A lot of the time people get overwhelmed before they’ve even done anything remotely “witchy” because they feel like they need to have a big fancy grimoire. This is not the case. You can make a google doc or shove a bunch of notes in a binder. This tip has helped a LOT of people including me. I do strongly suggest taking notes, but take them your way.

General Tips And finally here are some general tips to reference or keep in mind as you research and maybe start practicing witchcraft.

Don’t believe everything you hear and take information with a grain of salt. Most things to do with witchcraft depend on the witch.

Lots of witchcraft supplies can be found or made. It doesn’t have to be expensive.

You can find supplies at mundane places, the dollar store, craft store, library, ect.

Follow your intuition! One of the most important things here. To be a good witch and form a solid, personal path you have to know and be able to tune into yourself.

Experiment! Try different things. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t.

When you don’t know what to do, return to the basics. Whatever that means for you. Cleansing, warding, your deities, ect.

If you feel overwhelmed, start with just one topic or two! You don’t need to take in witchcraft as a whole right away. Same goes for if you return from a break from the craft.

// DRDT spoilers up until ch2 pt. 1

okay, so i actually do have a more… debatable reason why i believe J is the chapter 2 culprit. i’ve never mentioned it before, so i might as well.

time to break it down. ^^

again this is more of a personal interpretation that can be argued one way or the other, but for me, J’s secret quote regarding Mai Akasaki is one of the major indications of J being the culprit.

i’m not going to elaborate on what the secret quotes are since i assume many people know about them already—but for clarification, i am referring to the ones that appear on Mai Akasaki’s info page.

okay, so my point: until at least the chapter 2 victim, each character’s secret quote and/or bonus episode related to Mai Akasaki happens to be correlated with the reason behind their death.

i’m just going to work through some examples.

Xander’s quote regarding Mai is as follows:

“She couldn’t stand to do nothing.”

(also fun fact—when i went to fact-check, the first quote that appeared for me was coincidentally Xander’s. what luck.)

this quote is specifically about taking action—though we don’t have any details that could indicate what exactly Mai was trying to do, it might’ve been a plan exposing the fatal flaws of Hope’s Peak that went terribly wrong (and resulted in Mai’s own death).

in my own interpretation, Xander himself takes actions that represent the need to do what it takes to end the killing game, even if it means going against his own morals. but in the end, he trusts in himself that killing the-person-who-may-be-somewhat-responsible-for-the-killing-game is the right decision, and he goes through with the plan. this ended up in his attempt to murder Teruko, and consequently, his own death (though due to Min’s intervention). in other words, Xander’s choice to take action was the very decision that led to his downfall.

…please let this be a definitive correlation.

alright, moving on to Min’s quote regarding Mai:

“An average girl with nothing special at all about her.”

…okay, maybe not the most helpful. but there is a different source of information i can use, thankfully. time to refer back to Min’s bonus episode with Mai.

towards the end of the video, Min says this:

which is… incredibly ironic in correlation to the events of the first chapter. Min, in fact, does help someone. Teruko. Min defends her from Xander after he stabbed her. but Min’s intervention is exactly what led to Xander’s death—and consequently, what tied Min to the same fate. if Min hadn’t been there to defend Teruko (albeit the whole “manipulate the crime scene to make Teruko seem to be the culprit” part), she likely wouldn’t have died via execution like in chapter 1. so to me, Min’s desire to help others—as was detailed in her interaction with Mai—was exactly what led her to her fate.

either way, for both characters, a core theme that was involved in their “cause of death” (or motive to murder depending on how you look at it) was also closely linked to their relationship with Mai Akasaki.

okay, so how does this relate to J? at all?

well, uhm—might be best to take a look at J’s secret quote related to Mai.

“She kept it a secret, and told no one.”

this quote is very likely related to J’s connection to Mariabella Rosales—which is detailed very clearly in her motive secret.

so… quite frankly, i’m scared this is a major red flag. it feels very fitting for the person with a quote related to their secrets to be the chapter 2 culprit—after all, it’s not only related to the official murder motive, but the secret detailed in this quote is something that J is incredibly defensive about and would hide it at all costs… if it wasn’t for Arturo exposing her in front of everyone. it would be interesting if somehow, the already-revealed motive secret was a major motivation for the murder. i feel like it would also make sense for J to have a bonus episode that discusses her origins and the deeper reasons behind her hatred of the “selfish and artificial celebrity” lifestyle she was forced to live in for so long.

but… that’s more speculation, not an actual claim. it’s why i never addressed this in my death predictions post. (-.-;) well, at least this is one way to show my thought process.

Sasha's Parents

Allright, so thanks to the diary we finally got some definite info on Sasha's parents. Let's dissect it, and analyze how the divorce might have turned her into the person she is today.

According to Anne, Sasha's parents divorced when she was around four- or five-years-old. Her father remarried and doesn't seem to have had any other kids, while her mother has a long-term boyfriend who has kids of his own.

So what does this tell us? Well, the first thing we have to do is speculate which of Sasha's parents has custody of her, because knowing that, we can draw a lot of conclusions.

Personally, I am almost certain that it's her father, for reason i'll go into below.

Firstly, let's analyze the events of the divorce, before trying to figure out how the events of the series relates to the original plan the creators had to have an episode where Sasha reveals the full details of her backstory to Anne.

Mr and Mrs Waybright divorced when Sasha was 5 years old, but the implication we get from what little we know about the two people involved suggests that this wasn't simply a case of two people realizing things weren't working out... Because the implications seems to be that Mrs Waybright left her husband for another man... Who already had kids of his own, and who she very explicitly did not marry.

Why is this important? Because it explains everything we ever needed to know about Sasha's seething, burning desire to always be in control, and more importantly, on top.

Because in Sasha's 5 year old mind, seeing her mom leave her dad for another man, who already had a bunch of kids, while abandoning her, is tantamount to saying that she was worthless in her mother's eyes. She didn't measure up. Clearly her mom cared more about these kids than her... When in reality, it was the new boyfriend she actually cared about, not the kids. Neither the new ones... Or her own flesh and blood.

It also explains perfectly why Sasha's reaction to the Plantars "Stealing" Anne from her turned her downright murderous. In her mind it was basically history repeating itself again. Her losing someone she loved to another family she knew nothing about.

No wonder this girl hated the very concept of family.

Meanwhile, her dad married another woman, which which can safely assume was not a warm, loving relationship. More likely than not, whether this woman wanted to try and be a mother to Sasha, it's abundantly clear that that wasn't gonna happen. After the divorce, Sasha would have rejected any and all attempts at replacing her mother, and that stuck.

Her eternal quest to make Anne and Marcy happy is also explained by this. Sasha wants to make the people she loves happy. She wants them to like her, to appreciate her, to be rewarded with love and attention by people she loves and cares about.

But while this does explain a lot(Her control issues, her disdain for family, her non existent love for said family) there is still some things it does not explain, or at least there seems to be something more we aren't told.

So, let's put forth another question, to explain the things that a simple, if ugly divorce does not explain.

Was Sasha abused by her parents?

Throughout the series, Sasha continously says some extremely heavy lines, that though they fit perfectly with what is happening in the moment, all seem to be as a response to something else that happened previously in Sasha's life, that we just don't have the context for.

When Sasha hits her absolute lowest point, after having seemingly destroyed the only thing she truly cared about for Good and all, Sasha very deliberately refers to herself as belonging in the Trash, and that it's all someone like her deserves, in a tone that suggests she is accepting something she felt deep in her heart was innevitable.

That could be her being overly dramatic... But it could be something else.

Like she had been told that this was all she amounted to, a worthless brat who no one would love, who belonged in the trash.

Not while Anne and Marcy are getting by withouth me.

This line is pretty clear in it's meaning, but again, the way it's said and worded suggests it's referencing something someone else said at some point.

Hey anne... Maybe you're better off without me.

Sasha's famous line when she decides to kill herself is an important one, and one where she proves that she is willing to lay down her life for anne if it comes to that.

But knowing the circumstances with her parents divorce, it's hard not to read more into it. That Sasha had a genuine fear that her mother didn't just leave her, but that she was better off withouth her.

That could be projecting... but it doesn't have to be. Sasha could have heard it straight from the horse's mouth.

End of discussion

This one is absolutely referencing a line. This is a line Sasha uses to shut down any arguments Anne has when Sasha wants the discussion to end.

But that isn't something kids tend to learn on their own. They learn that by example. By mimicking others.

So before going into speculation of how Sasha may or may not have been abused, lets finish by pointing out the biggest argument for it.

The incredibly unsettling, and unnatural way Sasha does not care about her Parents in any way.

Sasha makes it abundantly clear throughout the entire series that she does not care about her parents. At all. Her relationship with them isn't a complicated one. It's nonexistent. As far as she cares, it does not exist.

That is incredibly unnatural behavior from a child. Even the most abused, or neglected of children will usually have some form of natural attachment to their parents, or parental figures. It's simply the way human beings are made.

It takes A LOT to break that bond completely, even for an adult.

But Sasha isn't an adult. She is a child. And yet her bond to her parents is as far as she is concerned for most of the series, broken beyond any repair.

And she doesn't care to try and fix it. That all on it's own speaks volumes of just how BAD her relationship with her folks are.

So, let's get to speculating on what exactly the kind of abuse Sasha might have gone through with her parents, because there is probably two very distinct kinds from each of her parents.

Of the two, I would guess that if she was abused, the most visceral part came from her mom.

Most of Sasha's biggest issues are clearly a result of her mother leaving her, and so this would make sense.

So, what sort of abuse might Sasha have suffered at the hands of her mother that broke her down so badly, given the woman left her behind, and so probably didn't interact with her much beyond this?

If i had to guess, all of it probably stems for what happened during the divorce, where her mom essentially put all her cards on the table, and let her real feelings be put on full display.

And there are several reasons her mom might have had to lash out at her own child. It could be as simple as the fact she used Sasha to hurt her now ex-husband. Rubbing in that he was stuck with her now.

It could be that sasha was an unplanned child that she didn't want, and had secretly resented for all five years of her life.

She may have been pressured into having her by her Mr Waybright, and now that she no longer had to even try to make him happy, she made it abundantly clear how much she never wanted the damned child he put in her.

Or she could flat out not have liked Sasha, based solely on her personality.

Whatever the reasons, it's clear that the events of the divorce shattered Sasha to her core, and would be essential into forming her into the person she was at the start of the series.

Having one of the people that Sasha(Who is a person who forms STRONG attachments) loves more than any other, turn on her completely, and reveal she always hated her would probably have done the trick.

Now, let's move on to Mr Waybright.

I am very certain that Sasha probably learned the "End. Of. Discussion." From him, as their relationship seems to have been a different kind of breakdown.

Namely that he seems to have given up on Sasha, giving her a level of personal control over her life that is downright irresponsible, letting her throw parties on the regular, seemingly giving her free access to cash as she needs it, and having failed to instill any discipline into his kid.

These are all classic symptoms of a relationship where the parent has given up, and simply gives the kid what they want so they don't have to deal with them.

But was this always the case?

The simple fact is, that with what we know of Mrs Waybright, the extreme destruction of her relationship with Sasha makes sense. There are details one has to speculate on, but there is a clear line to follow from point A to B.

Not so with Mr Waybright.

We know where they ended up, the turning point, but not the steps between.

The only thing we have to go on, Is that amongst her many, many unusual traits for someone so young, Sasha has a much older person's view on discipline. Namely she does not respond to it, because she does not respect the person delivering it, be they teachers or Grime.

It does not take a genius to figure out that this probably stems from her relationship with her father.

The simplest, and most likely explanation is that Mr Waybright attempts at parenting probably involved a lot of discipline, and attempts to instill Sasha with a sense dread at a phrace with the meaning of "This conversation is over".

In this he obviously failed, Because for whatever reason(probably something that happened during the divorce) Sasha does not respect him... But Sasha in turn seems to have learned this very kind of tactic herself from him.

Mr Waybright thusly seems to have had more of a sense of familial obligation to Sasha... At least trying to instill her with something resembling discipline... Until finally just giving up on her all together and just letting her do as she pleased.

All in all whether there was actual abuse involved, or just a child's entire world crumbling due to a very ugly divorce, I really, really wish we'd gotten Sasha's backstory episode.

More info on an unanswered snowgrave mystery??

noticed something potentially REALLY interesting in the spamton sweepstakes finale stream that ive only seen a single other person mention, so i wanna talk about it. fair warning i literally JUST noticed this so i have zero conclusions or theories based on it, i just wanna get this info out there ASAP so other people who are smarter can think about it. i know toby said that the events of the stream werent canon, but the some of the dialogue feels like it absolutely does reference information that the event was trying to communicate to us. so lets talk for a moment about the most prominent example, and the one a lot of people have picked up on already:

a bunch of recurring references to destroying TVs. during the cd commercial the voiceover even repeats "kill your tv" a few times, and the section of the ode to spamton poem that immediately follows it also makes a point to have 4 consecutive lines of anti-TV sentiment, and say that the TV has committed "horrible crimes". combined with the "damn you tenna" stuff from the website itself, i think this was intentionally really driven home. it's about information that we already had a bunch of other clues about already, so people could understand that there was some canon lore-adjacent content in the stream's dialogue. so now here's the much less obvious and MUCH more troubling recurring idea that i just noticed:

during the description for the championship belt, he says "i didnt spend years inside the ring for nothing!", and then repeats "years inside the ring" three times.

after the nutrinose commercial, in the little song he sings, the second line is "there's only one spamton in the globe." note the specific word choice of "in the globe" here.

if you check the freeze ring weapon you get from an addison in snowgrave, the description says that the ring has a snowglobe on it, and that it looks like there's someone inside it. ok. so. what i think is being communicated here is, spamton was trapped for years inside a ring with a globe on it. ...aaand thats all i got! cause like, okay, but... when?? what was the timeframe on this happening?? was he inside the freeze ring that we get in the game??? hes clearly not inside it now, during the events of the game, right??? so who are we seeing in there????? why was he trapped inside, and how did he get out?????? did someone do it to him???????? ...who????????? THERES ALREADY SO MUCH STUFF IN HIS BACKSTORY HOW DOES THIS RING ENTRAPMENT SUBPLOT FIT IN

Info for writer in Thai series fandom: Superstitions, beliefs and ghosts

Disclaimer: I'm definitely not an expert.

There are a lot of supernatural beliefs, and people have a different level of faith in them, hence a different level of approach towards them. There are some small ones that do not require much faith or afford to participate, like the belief in guardian spirits. You see their shrine, you wai, and that's that. Everyone does it, even when they don't really believe it. And then there is a big thing like black magic, like in the Long Kong series, where if you are a true believer, it can go so far, but if you are not, it is a complete non-sense "Why would anyone do that?" kind of thing.

Thai culture is a mix of cultures. Throughout history, we have constantly been influenced by many different things from many different sources. The superstitions of today are a mash-up of animism, Buddhism, Brahmin, Hinduism, chinese lores, and possibly a few other things. I honestly can't tell what came from what or explain with confidence why anything is the way it is, so keep that in mind. Also, it's a belief it's not going to have a fixed rule.

Sin(บาป), Merit(บุญ) and Karma(กรรม) I say I can't distinguish any belief origin, but this one is clearly Buddhist, so if you want more information, you know where to look. The basis is that when we do something, it's karma, and if it's bad, then it's a sin. If it's good, it's merit. Every krama will have a consequence. And, I don't think the next part is pure Buddhist, the consequence can come to you in your next life if it has not already affected this life or the afterlife. By praying, we can give merit to the other person, dead or alive. The reason I believe this is not a pure Buddhist is that Buddhists have a concept of non-self (อนัตตา), which means that everything is impermanent and will one day cease to exist. These two concepts do not really fit together when you think about it. Also, there is a teaching about how we shouldn't believe in something just because it's been told to be or because of who told it, and only believe in what can be proven to be true, so according to that, I don't think any superstitions are really part of the core of Buddhism. I really like that in Buddhism. A teacher who is not afraid to be questioned or researchers who are not afraid to have their theories subverted is a good one in my opinion. Anyway, the concept of karma is, I want to say, literally everywhere, but it is not a tangible thing, so figuratively everywhere in Thai.

Guardian spirits There are a lot of type of guardian spirits. First, start with the one you are most likely to see in the background in series "Phraphom Chaothi"(พระภูมิเจ้าที่)

they are the local god of the land and by land we usually mean house they can also seperate into Phraphom and Chaothi if we want to be really specific. Phraphrom is Phra ChaiMongkol, the deity that protects houses. It is believed that paying homage to Phra ChaiMongkol will make people in the house live happily bring good luck and help avoid danger.Chaothi is the Spirit which used to be the original owner who ties to that area and help take care and protect it. Their shrine will look a little different but the condition about how their shrine should be build are the same the shrine must build on the ground, the location must not be cast down by the shadow of the house, be far from the location of the bathroom, not face into the area where the bathroom is located, not face the front door, at least 1 meter away from the fence or the wall of the house, and the height should be slightly above the eye level of the homeowner. Most Thai people tend to set up both shrines together. Start By performing a ceremony to invite Phraphrom first and then Chaothi after. The worshiping rituals we do are also performed at the same time too. Im not sure if it universal but my family do it once a year. We will ask they for "left over" food after pay homage so the food is not waste.

*something not quite related - There is a phrase "Chaothi raeng," which translates to "Chaothi here is powerful." It means someone's lover is a really jealous person.

Second, we have "Chao Pa Chao Kao"(เจ้าป่าเจ้าเขา)

the guardian spirit of the forest(Pa-ป่า) and mountain(Kao-เขา). Sometimes they get called together, sometimes separate, but their concept is the same. Since the forest is under their protection, anyone who insults or damages the forest might get punished by making them lost in the forest by hiding the offender from other people. In Thai language, it's called "Phi Bang Ta" (Phi-ผี-ghost Bang-บัง-conceal Ta-ตา-eyes) so when people get lost in the forest, the searcher party often makes an offering to apologize to Chao Pa Chao Kao in case the victim offended them somehow or to ask for their help in searching. The offerings consist of white wine, boiled chicken, and garlands or baisri. Other than to apologize, there is another ceremony that people who work in the forest do. It's called "Pi Tee Pert Pa"(พิธีเปิดป่า) The direct translation is Forest Opening Ceremony, The point of this ceremony is to ask to be free from harm when they enter and work in the forest. It is performed by lighting incense, saying the objective of entering, asking for success and safety, apologizing in advance in case anything offends them, and during the stay, people might also make food offerings to them too.

Third, "Mae Yanang" (แม่ย่านาง)

guardian goddess of boats, who nowadays is also a guardian goddess of any other vencicle too. The main worshipper of Mae Yanang is the fisherman, but there are also many other people who are not fishermen too. There are a few different stories about who Mae Yanang is and how she came to be the guardian goddess of boats, but the most popular (in my opinion) is that she is Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess whom we worship after being influenced by the Chinese merchants first and then by the Chinese Hokkien people who migrated into Thai during the Ayutthaya period.

There are other guardian spirits, but if I list all of them, it's going to be too long and I doubt that anyone will need these for anything. I just kind of like some of the concept and also think Phraphom Chaothi's shrine is very cute and I want to introduce it to you, so I will stop here. But as usual, if you have other questions, feel free to ask.

บนบาน Bon baan The meaning of bon baan is to ask the Holy for assistance by promising to give something in return or to do what was promised when it is completed, and so on. It can be shortened to only bon or add sâan glàao at the end, depending on how you want to say it. Săan means shrine, and glàao means to say, inform, or announce.

Buddhism is atheism, but most others that influenced Thai culture were polytheism, so we have many gods to pray to, and if gods aren't enough, we can also pray to other things. Nowadays, it might even be to no one in particular. People will just said that if something they wanted happened, they would do what was promised. But back to the gods. Every god has their own niche, both in terms of what they like or dislike being promised and what they are likely to grant or not. For example, you can pray to Trimurti for love but shouldn't pray to any god or goddess who is widowed for love because it is not their area of expertise. At best, they just not help. At worst, they might get offended.

Tips that are believed to help get the results faster.

1. Make no impossible wishes or wishes beyond one's own merit. For example, donate ten baht but ask to win the lottery first prize. It's beyond your merit. 2. We must only ask for positive outcomes. Do not ask for something that is sinful. You can ask for a lover, but not for the other pair to break up. 3. The mind must be still before pleading. 4. When we promise to do anything, we can do it immediately for them to see. For example, when you promise that you will abstain from eating meat for 7 days if your son gets a job, you can start refraining from eating meat that day and don't have to wait to get what you want before doing it. 5. Accumulate a lot of merit. Minimize bad karma as much as you can.

Those who pray may be true believers or not fully believe it and are just hopeless or need more reassuring. It's really popular for those who want to attend a specific university to pray to that university's sacred. My roommate in my first year promised to run 10 laps around campus if she got into our university, which she did. I don't really get why our university's sacred would want her to run 10 laps, but if it's work, it's work, I guess.

ปีชง Bpee Chong It's a concept that everyone has unlucky years depending on what zodiac year one was born. It is linked with Tai Sui Xing Jun, the god of destiny in Chinese astrology. It is a pair of years that do not match. The year of birth plus six is the opposite year, which is believed that opposite years are opposing each other, so unlucky things will happen in those years. If that year is the unlucky year of any zodiac year, people born in that zodiac year will face obstacles no matter what they do. Every year, there are those who are 100% Chong, meaning they were born in the year opposite the current zodiac year, and those who are only partially Chong, consisting of those who were born in the year counting three years from the current zodiac year and the opposite year, as well as those whose year of birth is the current zodiac year. People who believe in it will enhance their luck and make their fortune better by going to do the ritual in a Chinese temple, especially those who are 100% Chong.

Things to do to enhanced luck Well, in the end the core of almost every belief is what to do to bring good luck and avoid bad luck so here are some random tidbits about how people try to enhanced their luck nowaday.

-ชื่อมงคล auspicious name Many people name their babies with the intention of the name bringing luck to their babies. What names are auspicious or ill-lucks can be considered based on many factors, such as time of birth, day of birth, gender, surname, parents' names, and what aspect in life the parents want to compensate for or boost. It also has many branches, with each branch having its own set of rules, which you can choose to follow. In some cases, it makes us able to guess things from people's names. People who got a name that spells with no visible vowel are usually those born on Monday, for example.

-สีมงคล auspicious color In my understanding, auspicious color is a relatively recent thing. It is based on an older concept, but it is a new trend. It is incredibly popular among the younger generation. If you type the word "สีมงคล" into a search engine, you will find many charts showing information about what color is auspicious or ill-luck for what day and in what aspect. It's been created for easier use, so people can easily see what color to choose for their clothes.

-เครื่องราง amulet There are a lot of types of amulet, but let's focus on the most popular type first, the one for money and success.

1.ปี่เซียะ Pixiu, a Chinese mythological animal well-known throughout Asia, is thought to increase property value and bring in an endless supply of money. The usual form it comes in is a red rope bracelet with Pixiu as a pendant.

2.พระพิฆเนศ Ganesh the Hindu god of beginning, is the patron of intellectuals, bankers, scribes, and authors. People in the entertainment industry are his devotees, and many other people worship him too, as he is seen as generous and able to remove any obstacles.

3.หินมงคล Auspicious stone. Different stones are believed to have different attributes and, in some cases, people who are born on different days will also be differently affected. But what most of them have in common is the belief that the stone should touch the skin for it to have maximum effect. There are many stones that are considered auspicious. Some of the popular ones are rutilated quartz, agate, lapis lazuli, jade, and any gem, but the real classic is the combination of nine different gems. Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, Yellow-Sapphire or Topaz, Garnet, Blue Sapphire, Moonstone, Zircon, and Chrysoberyl All this together is called Noppakao (the same as the lovely writer's main actor's name in all spelling, pronunciation, and meaning).

4.พระเครื่อง Phra Khrueang (Thai Buddha amulet). It is a small Buddha image you can wear around your neck. People who wear it usually don't take it off much if they have a choice.

5.Parents' picture There is a phrase, "Father and mother are like in-home monks." It is believed that if we respect our parents, our lives will go well in all aspects. So a picture surely doesn't hurt.

-เลขมงคล auspicious number People will use Taksa or Thaksapakorn, which is an astrological method to find an auspicious number (and some other things, like an auspicious name) to use in all matters that have numbers involved, e.g., choosing a car registration number, phone number, or even finding what number you want on a banknote you will deliberately carry. That banknote will be called "ngern kwăn tng." It's money you won't use and just carry around to bring luck.

-Lucky homescreen/wallpaper Yeah, for your phone. I can't find any reason or principle behind this. I have zero idea why some pictures are more auspicious than others. Someone will just say it is with no explanation. It can be an animal or group of them, a river, tree, god, ship, flower, etc. It has gotten quite popular for a bit. If I remember correctly, Lisa Blackpink used the god of fortune, Cai Shen Ye, who is a popular choice to help enhance luck in financial matters, as a lockscreen at some point.

สักยันต์ Sak Yant

There are two methods of tattooing. Firstly, ink. Unlike the black ink we use today, ink used for tattooing used to come from nature, such as snakehead fish gall grind mixed with Aporocactus flagelliformis Lem (Thai name:เถานาคราช:Naga vine) or Stephania venosa (Thai name:สบู่เลือด:blood soap). which is thought to result in invulnerability, so those tattoos for invulnerability will mostly use ink, resulting in a visible tattoo.

Next oil, most of this method will use "wan 108 type water", which is believed to give the effect of popularity, such as compassion and great charm. The direct translation of wan (ว่าน) is aloe, but it used to be an umbrella term for all plants that are used for medicinal purposes and some that are used for ornamental purposes, so in this case, wan means plant, and for 108 types, it does not mean they will use all 108 of them, it just means they will use some of those 108 it refers to. The most popular is sesame oil, but some institutions might mix other things in. The oil will be invisible after its healing, so those tattoos for popularity will mostly result in invisible tattoos.

ทำเสน่ห์ Charm The meaning is to make someone enchanted with you by using superstitious methods. There are two ways to do it; the white way and the black way.

The white way is the safer method compared to the black way. Because the maker will not have to be afraid that the occult will get back at them and drive them insane like in the Black Way, it has the least risk overall, whether for the maker or the target. It is considered the more popular method. The white way will focus on the mind. It's using spells to either call lovers back or convince the target to become their lover. The most important thing is that the white way is said to be more effective in the long run. It will also last longer than the black way.

The black way is said to be an extremely dangerous thing. Both for the maker and the target. In the Long Kong series, it's the black way. This method is only popular with certain groups of people, which are those who are really desperate and didn't care about the consequent or happiness in the long run anymore. For it focus on wanting to possess that target person, more physical than mind and said to be effect the health greatly in short spant of time

Both the white and black ways have many varieties, from different sources, for different results. For exemple there are things like soul binding, love potion(เสน่ห์ยาแฝด:SaNayYaFaet :Charming Twin Pills?) and the use of Prai oil(น้ำมันพราย), etc.

Ghost Everything was kind of all over the place. There are no concrete rules, and there will always be an exception.

Type of ghost. There are many of them, so I will only address those I'm 100% sure came from dead humans and not something else.

-Sambhawesi (สัมภเวสี) directly translates to "birth seeker," meaning a person who is dead but not yet born, or in some interpretations, everyone, dead or alive, who has not yet become a Buddhist saint. It's kind of a broad term more than an actual type, but due to repeated use in some contexts, it became slang for a ghost that can't be reborn because of their bad karma, so they have to wander begging for merit from the living people.

-Chao Kam Nai Wen (เจ้ากรรมนายเวร), a ghost that has ill will towards a living person due to the wrongful karma that person committed to them during their life. In some cases, it can also mean a living person or even an animal that got wronged too. Because if those who do wrong can be reborn, why can't those who get wronged? The action Chao Kam Nai Wen does is called Jong Wen (จองเวร). Jong means reserve, book, or hold, and Wen means resentment, vindictiveness, malice, indignation, sin. Wen can also be used as a swear word. Both words can also be used to refer to people who we don't like but keep having to meet and interact with. Like, is that guy my Chao Kam Nai Wen? Why is he still following me? How much longer is he going to jong wen me? Pat from the Bad Buddy Series calls Pran his Chao Kam Nai Wen in Ep1 after Pa, his sister, calls Pran his soulmate.

-Phi Tai Hong (ผีตายโหง). Phi (ผี) means ghost or spirit. Tai (ตาย) means die, dead, or death, and Hong (โหง) means die a violent or unnatural death, ghost, or demon. It is a ghost caused by an unnatural death. They did not die from sickness or old age but suddenly died from something unnatural, such as death from being shot, war, drowning, being hit by a car, suicide, or something fast, so their death occurred in such an instant that their mental state couldn't accept it. They are in a state of fear, shock, or spite. Thus, causing most souls to be unable to admit that they were actually dead, they refuse to be born and keep haunting the place where they died as vengeful ghosts. In many tales, Phi Tai Hong can get really powerful.

-Phi Tai Thang Klom (ผีตายทั้งกลม) is a Phi Tai Hong variant. They are pregnant women who died while giving birth along with their children. They are associated with many black magic practices because they were believed to be really powerful and required a really hard and complicated ritual to pacify.

- Kuman thong (กุมารทอง) The first version of them originated from the spirit of a child who died in the mother's womb and was brought in by a black magic user to adopt as a child and help with various tasks. The maker of Kuman thong will really perform the ritual by using an actual stillborn child in early practice. Later, there has been a modification of the process of creating Kuman thong by changing it to create the form of a child by using the soil of the seven cemeteries, a specific type of wood, metal, etc. And then do the ritual to conjure up the mind and soul. They can be gifted, so the owner and the maker might not be the same. Anyone who owns them must raise them as if they were their own children, provide food and drink offerings for them, and call them to eat in the same way that a parent would. It is said that if Kumarn thong receives good care, they will help with many things. For example, they will help protect the owner and family from all bad things, help them get more trade, protect the houses from thieves and enemies, and issue a warning about future danger as well.

-Hong prai (โหงพราย) ghosts under the power of black magic users/sorcerers. They can have varying differences in ability and other things dependent on the ghost itself and the ritual their owner does to keep them. It is considered a heavy sin to keep one.

-Sa ming (สมิง) I'm not too sure, but its root word might mean king, ruler, or guardian. Sa ming prai (สมิงพราย) A powerful ghost Suea sa ming(เสือสมิง) Suea means tiger. A tiger that was believed to originally be a person with a strong magic skill that later transformed into a tiger Or a tiger that eats a lot of people and gets possessed by the dead, and later, it is able to transform into a human form. Suea Sa Ming will use their human form to lure their prey to them to eat.

-Pret (เปรต) A hungry ghost comes from a religious tale, born from those who committed real heavy sin. Their shapes varies, but the most famous ones are the ones that are really tall with giant hands and feet but only have a mouth the size of a pinhole.

- Pu Som Fao Sap (ปู่โสมเฝ้าทรัพย์) Pu som (ปู่โสม) means gnome, gremlin, or churl. Fao means guard and Sap means treasure. A ghost or spirit that guards a precious treasure or a national treasure. There is a tale about how the sky was distorted after thift laid their hands on treasure the spirit guards, or how they received many misfortunes until they had to return what they took. Their origin is not clear and, in historians' opinion, their story is quite new compared to the others, but the version I know is that they are people who get killed or commit suicide with the intention of guarding the treasure, whether willing or unwilling.

Ability: What could a ghost do? The ability of Thai ghosts is mostly in line with every other country in my opinion. They can sometimes appear, make some noise, lure people to their death using various means in the hope that they will get replaced and be free, or just so that person will stay with them. If they are really powerful, they can even assult people using their own hands, strangling them or something. They can also appear in someone's dream, to haunt, to give lottery numbers, or something else depending on their intention toward that person, possess people invited or uninvited, or influence people's minds.

other things

-Phit phi (ผิดผี) translates directly to "wronged the ghost". It means violating custom or tradition, especially in a sexual way. I use this word for many things. Ex : Eat grilled bananas without sauce, make fried basil without basil, and don't give out free lime slides when selling fried rice. I will give more examples, but apparently food is all my mind can think about. All in all, in this day and age, this word can be used to express that you don't agree with something (and find it to be kinda out of the norm), ranging from silly things like an opinion on food to more serious things (like sexual misconduct).

-Benjapas (เบญจเพส) translates directly into the crucial age of twenty-five. It's a belief that bad things will happen when people reach a certain age, like twenty-five years old, and then every twelve years or something else depending on what book you choose to believe.

-Ong long (องค์ลง) to be possessed by a spirit. When one performs a traditional performance, it's believed that there is a chance that the spirit of the master or deity might possess the performer, and it's not a bad thing, a good thing even. They will leave when it ends, and the performance will be perfect. It can also refer to someone who has a mood swing.

-Phi plak (ผีผลัก) got pushed by a ghost. It's when we feel like something got pushed but can't find what pushed it, so we say it's a ghost or It can also be used to refer to when something unintentional happens.

- Sia khwan (เสียขวัญ) to lose ones khawn. Khawn in this context, is an invisible spirit that lives within each person and which is responsible for psychological and spiritual well-being and, when lost, is thought to cause health or mental problems. But in general, sia khwan means anxious, discouraged, panicked, scared.

-There is a belief that planting lemongrass in the ground upside down by a virgin will make the rain stop, so sometimes when there is an event and people don't want it to rain that day, they will do it. And if you are not a virgin but do it anyway, it's said to make the rain rain harder. The ones who do it are typically girls, cis or tran, but I don't remember anyone caring much about the gender of the performer.

Heres some character info-sheets for my mlb rewrite. The main five obv, but I'll get to other characters maybe later if and when I feel like it... also this was an excuse to draw them n o t dying or something so uh- yar.

Some additional info about each:

Marinette- Marinette's mom tried to teach Marinette chinese but started out a little too late in Mari's child-language development and never really succeeded. At most, Marinette can introduce herself. She does not yet have any crushes in my fic at the moment, but the first one (sorta already is) will be Luka for a while once he gets more "screen time". She's less "UwU quirky i'm so clumsy" like she is in the show. In fact, she doesn't go and do stupid things without repercussions at all. She is less focused on boys and more on her superhero life, but it starts getting overwhelming. She feels like if she tried to focus on herself for a change, something bad would happen as a result, and it doesn't help that Tikki is so strict on her about it.

Adrien- Adrien is pomosexual which basically means he doesn't know what the heck he is or what to label his feelings with so he went with that. He knows he is attracted to femininity, but is also ok with more masculine or "tom-boyish" attributes in anyone of any gender. This does lead into his crush on Kagami later on since they are nonbinary and not exactly "the most feminine" person you could meet, yet also not entirely masculine in their personality and presentation. Basically, he doesn't know what the heck his sexuality is. He knows chinese and english because of how strict his homeschooling is, and has a natural talent for picking up new languages. He doesn't really understand himself and often feels like he's broken, or a robot. Perhaps some senti-monster behavior...??????!!!!! (I'm deciding on that now shut up)

Nino- Nino is a glorious bilingual child whose parents are unknown. They probably left the face of the planet. No one has ever seen them... at least in the show... so I didn't bother giving him a family. But he's bilingual somehow!! But wait... I did give him parents?! That's right, I invented Mara Lahiffe for no reason, and we're gonna say his dad is no longer in the picture. He's very protective of his friends and would never abandon them, hence why he became so fitting for the turtle miraculous. He has a secret crush on Rena Rouge but sadly, not Alya. He likes his mysterious women I guess.

Alya- Alya is creole which is a race of people from America that spawned from the mixing of native american, Spaniard, black, and europeans. It's a lot... I know... they're best known for existing in Louisiana, and does she have family there? No! She has relatives from Cuba which is why she can speak spanish. Alya has a big family with three other sisters, and she's caught being the middle child. This has given her a lot of insecurities due to her older sister being a literal muscle boxing beast and her two little twin sister getting all the attention from the family.

Chloe- I think it's really funny that I didn't give Marinette, the main character, family trauma, but the other four.... Chloe's parents are divorced and her mother has a very judgmental attitude over Chloe. Chloe wants nothing more than to please and impress her mother who sometimes doesn't even remember her daughters name. Chloe feels like she's battling her half sister, Zoe, for their mothers attention, which is made extra hard for her by the fact that her sister and mother live all the way in New York. Chloe was as straight as a pencil, she swears. but then... she started developing feelings for a girl and everything became a mess. She's kinda in the same boat as Adrien right now, except she's more comfortable calling herself bicurious. She developed anorexia after Gabriel Agreste's company refused to accept her as a model, denying her the chance to work with Adrien and pursue her dream career.

AkaFuri A/B/O AU where Seijūrō & Kōki had a one-night stand & it ends with Kōki getting pregnant with non-identical twins.

(Despite their brief, short meeting, they left a strong impression on each other - and they both regret not exchanging phone numbers that night)

A few years later, they're reunited when Seijūrō felt a bump & spotted 2 little boys resembling him & the young man he had a one-night stand with a few years ago. Said young man runs after the 2 boys, panting & chiding them for running off until he sees Seijūrō.

Time stops, & for a moment, it feels like Kōki & Seijūrō are the only 2 people in the whole universe until the noises made by the 2 boys bring them back to reality.

The 2 men reacquainted themselves, with Kōki claiming Seijūrō as a friend he hadn't seen in a long time. Seijūrō, being the person he is, plays along (and he quickly figures out the 2 boys are his offspring - but he wants to make sure, so he swiftly & subtly picks up 2 locks of hair from each boys without them noticing).

They catch up on each other's life, and eventually, exchange contact infos.

By the time Seijūrō is home, he makes a phone call to Midorima's lab, requesting a DNA test - and he provides the 2 locks of hair when someone from the lab arrives.

Seijūrō makes frequent meetups with Kōki just so he can get to know him better (and look at his face - and vice versa). After their, like, 4th or 7th or 10th meet-up, Kōki finally gathers the courage to invite Seijūrō to the Furihata residence & blurts out the question: "Want to come to my place the next time we meet?"

(There's a lot I want to tell about this AU, but I'm in a rush right now, so I can't say much.

However, Kōki & Seijūrō's sons are the precise carbon copy of themselves, with their personalities swapped. So basically, the older twin inherits Seijūrō's good looks & sharp gaze, but has Kōki's timid personality. The younger twin inherits Kōki's plain, average looks but has Seijūrō's confident & assertive personality. Also, I keep referring them as "the 2 boys" because I still haven't come up with names for them lol

Also, Kōki's originally 4 people household are now a 6 people household - the 2 boys, their dad Kōki, their uncle Kōki's big bro & their grandparents Kōki & his big bro's parents)

(And because you said you're not a fan of the "oops, we have a baby now" trope, feel free to ignore this if this isn't your cup of tea)

(Nah nah man, baby fic is VERY different from kid fic. The difference being- "shit- you're... and that's mine... are you sure? Damn, well, I can't not be involved in the life of my child/let's just. Big update!!

Where I’ve been

I know I’ve been gone for a long time now and I keep saying I’m coming back, but the truth is, I’ve been really struggling. I’ve been with family most days since the new year, having no time for steps while watching kids, and having to eat all their meals in front of them with no way of counting my cals.

What’s been up

Through it all I kept telling myself I’d just get right back up once I had the chance but that chance never came and I kept having to eat with family day after day without counting. It triggered me into over eating and I let myself slip into an awful mess of eating and getting fat.

Why I stayed away, and why I’m back

I felt really discouraged to come back on here, respond to any of my messages, or make any updates or check ins until I was truly back on track because I’m really tired of posting setbacks and failures- that’s not what what my blog is about. This is a place where I share my progress, goals, hold myself accountable and where I can find understanding with all you guys through this sh!t. But really for me, this is just a place where I organize my thoughts and journey, even if no one ever reads all this crap, though it means a lot to me when I see the people who comment or show in some way that they can relate and I’m not alone.

The good news/ my time away wasn’t all bad!

My sister hammy downed me her old Apple Watch that was kinda broken because she got a new one as a gift. It works fine for what I use it for and not only does it track my steps, standing and movement, but my sister and I started a 7 day challenge to exercise more than each other and it’s really motivating me to move and get my steps in.

She also introduced me to some skincare products that have been helpful for her and I’m starting to get into a lot of things that could fit under the “self care” activities category, and as kinda cringey as that sounds, I’m starting to enjoy doing things like that and working to improve my quality of life a bit. Just little things that are slowly making me feel and look good yk? Like having a skincare routine, doing my makeup, painting my nails, avidly using chapstick and stuff.

Regaining hope and getting back on track

Not only is this whole “self care” thing a great distraction and other source of dopamine aside from food, but it’s actively helping me “glow up” and I feel like I could just add a few more habits into the stuff I’m already starting to do to get me back on track like, drinking more water, fasting longer and more consistently, getting 10k steps and counting calories. And if I continue to make it a fun thing that I get used to, eventually I’ll get to me gw without even thinking about it! Plus nicer skin :)

I’m back!

Starting Jan 11th (today), I’m getting back on track. To prove to myself that I got this and that my heads still in the game, today I walked well over 15k steps, burned 630 calories throughout the day and I’m currently 8hrs into a 24hr fast. Here we go.

Multiple times I've come across ppl literally sharing images of people who've been killed (in one case children what the fuck???) And even if its below a cut I still have to read the description of why they've put it under a cut. I know ppl have different opinions of this stuff but in my view that's so disrespectful of those who've lost their lives. The guilt trippy stuff (and I'm sorry but it's largely coming from people that don't know what they're talking about, as shown by the fact that there's literally no awareness that the stuff that's being said/shown untagged is hugely triggering for ppl who've lived through this stuff)

This is not a news site!!! People trying to avoid this stuff does not mean they don't have awareness of what's going on and aren't staying aware by getting their news from actual news sources???

I'm not against people talking about this stuff on here at all. It needs to be talked about. But for the love of God, making a post is not the same as taking to people in person. People do not have the option to walk away when you just send a post out in to the ether like that. Just tag things appropriately it's not that hard!!!

So yeah thank you for saying it. I always feel hugely guilty for trying to avoid certain things because of the guilt tripping that's so rife on this site but I really shouldn't cause half of what's coming up isn't even constructive (or true a lot of the time) and it just brings up a whole load of stuff that hits my mental health and makes it harder for me to actually campaign in a way that helps people

I always think of that one tweet that's like 'misery is not activism' making people feel shit isn't actually solving any of these issues or helping the world at all lol

When it comes to this topic, I always think of some articles I read about the human brain's capacity for processing bad news. One of them was titled something like "your brain can't handle the world".

Basically, it talked about how years ago (mind you, not that many years, given how fast modern technology evolved) you would get your handful of news, good and bad, on the newspaper or on TV and radio, and even that was already much more than a person in the 1800's would, given the slow pace of letters and how only vital info was able to fit into one. Newspapers would often only carry local news, and you could spend a whole lifetime without knowing what was happening in countries on the other side of the ocean.

Now, imagine that. A wedding would be the talk of the town for weeks. A funeral would be The Sad Event for your to grieve over for the following months. That is the amount of happy and sad (and playful, and contemplative, and other emotions) that one could experience and process in a healthy manner.

But nowadays, you get see the story of a family adopting their first puppy two continents away, and that's great and cool, but unfortunately that also means that you get the story of a bunch of children dying two continents away too, and the testimony of their families, and the overview of the political landscape that lead to this happening and the bleak understanding that that's not gonna change and it will happen again--

all that while you might be dealing yourself with a fascist government in your country, and your own bad news, and your own shitty economy, and laws that hurt a minority of which you are a part, and, and--

That is all too much. Literally too much for the mind of someone who is already tired of doing their own activism and surviving within the microcosm that is their town/community/country.

So you close CNN. You turn off the news livestream. You take a deep breath and you open tumblr because your mind is parched for dopamine and happiness you could use some cute fanart and compelling headcanons to relax.

You are two cute dog pics down when you scroll into graphic pictures of the latest massacre, paired with a detailed testemony of whatever horrific thing that happened. There isn't even a link for donations, or an e-mail you can reach to do anything remotely useful about it. It's just a spatter of misery smeared on your phone screen, quickly erasing all joy you might've gotten from the dog pics.

Your taglist is extensive, mind you, for the sake of keeping your dash a small safe haven from the dangers of doomscrolling - it's all there, blocked from sight: #negative, #current events, #death/, #child death/, #animal death/, #[insert current world tragedy], #[insert topic particularly triggering that could send you into a panic attack].

But people don't tag their shit. They say shit like "i don't care your blog theme, if you don't reblog this, you're a monster". They say "stop scrolling and look at this horrific thing". They say "why is no one talking about this"--

And don't realize, or don't care that some people are drowning in bills to pay and extra shifts to work and needing to double-think about wearing their pride pins because homophobia is getting worse in their country, and struggling with depression and anxiety, etc, etc.

I'm too adhd to make a concise text post ever, but if I can make any sort of point here, I guess that would be:

There is nothing wrong with not wanting to see, reblog or interact with negative posts about current events. This is not a news website. You did not come here for the news, and therefore is perfectly normal that you don't want to deal with them.

There is nothing wrong with making your dash a nice place curated with only the things you like. Block tags and blogs liberally. I know I do. This website is, to me, a source of memes, headcanons, jokes, character analysis and occasional useful knowledge. I don't get my news here. I don't engage in political/ideological debates here. I see a transphobe, I block them. I see a gun-freak bootlicker, I block them. This is my little garden, and goddamnit I will rip off all the weeds.

There is nothing wrong with not reblogging certain content, no matter what the guilt-trippy reblogs say. You don't owe anyone the space in your blog. This is your little garden, people don't get to tell you what to plant in it. You are one. Little. Person. You rebbloging something won't have the Big Worldly Impact they're making it out to be.

If you want to make room for the occasional activism in your blog, that's fine too. I make a point that everything I reblog that has a negative tone must be not only properly tagged but also have some kind of action attached to it - a donation link, a link for further reading in case of something raising awareness, a contact line for representatives to stop some dogshit law. I never reblog things that are just depressing and leave you feeling hopeless.

Please stay safe, drink water, be wary of doomscrolling, allow yourself not to be an activist 24/7, give yourself a safe space to decompress, take care, I love you <3

Before I go, I must leave fair warning to the piss-poor reading comprehension crowd: no, I am not advocating for toxic positivity or pretending that everything is fine, I just want the poor fuck juggling two jobs plus school while living in a political hellscape and managing depression and some other undiagnosed mental condition to be able to scroll the funny shitposting website without having to see triggering content that will send them into a panic attack.

(note: it's ok if we disagree, i admit i might be jumping to conclusions due to lack of info that is currently unknown)

I respect your skeptical approach to any new info about LO. However I can't not point out that most structured info about her is based on what she does or says, or ppl's stories that are/was around her. Plus, fun fact about internet - no one is truly anonymous. Like everyone's, LO's personality slowly leakes in public through her lies, jokes, preferences and other forms of media she interacts with. It's quantity and quality, gathered together, creates a stable believable trend in which Courtney's story fits right in. It feels like one of those "final" pieces that connect everything else and that's why I don't think it could be specifically made up or imagined by someone genious.

What I'm trying to say - in my opinion, it fits all too well with what was already known. It isn't just disturbing, it screams!

To this point, I personally believe that LO doesn't seek popularity and plays it low on purpose. She had whole childhood to learn how to be a sneaky predator under everyone's noses. That's a skill.

i don't disagree with any of that, anon. the biggest reason why i try to remark that all of that are allegations and we have no strong evidence that it happened is an attempt to avoid people asking "then why she isn't in prison", "why nobody has called the police" or similars.

taking out of the way for a second that the police are many times ineffective, that many crimes go unpunished for many reasons, even with evidence behind it, and lack of a police record doesn't mean that someone hasn't done something wrong in their life, the truth of the matter is that we don't have anything from Courtney but allegations. this is not Courtney's fault either because she was a literal child when all of that happened, but it is what it is. do i believe those are credible enough considering the kind of person LO is and her actions? yes, just like i also believe that the sankaku accounts are or were hers. but that's not ever going to work as evidence in a court of law or for a police officer to do anything. i can't offer to anyone any other stronger evidence that maybe she did those things beyond fanfictions or posts or maybe some stream clip, and i can't blame anyone either if none of that is enough for them to change their minds about whether LO actually did those things or not. i bet anything that at least a portion of the people who read this blog won't ever believe Courtney's word without a direct confession of LO, which we also know won't ever happen, and i can't blame them either because nobody wants to believe that someone would be so awful of a person and kept living comfortably without any major issues for so long. we don't want to believe that such a person could exist right under our noses and we just didn't see it before. just like many just refuse to believe that LO would go so low as to lie about having cancer. just like many don't believe that LO did enjoyed images made with actual CSA of real children knowingly. some of it will always seem "a step too far" or "not even LO would go that far" to some people, even if LO hasn't actually done anything to give anyone that impression, and there's nothing i can do about it. so i can only talk about that as allegations and claims, because i have nothing else.

HI AGAIN ANON SO it’s been a few days (so sorry about that btw.) And i have. Possibly the funniest news. i was thinking really hard about your ask and how to approach it because i tend to sort of…draft scenarios in my head before actually answering my asks? and i was like. hmmmmmm idk why im having such a tough time with this! i feel like no matter what i do it ends up feeling forced! and i genuinely DONT know how to tell you this but I THINK YOUR ASK MADE ME REALIZE YTR SHIN IS AROMANTIC????? like ok i know im the creator of this au and i can do whatever with the characters. but sometimes i feel like the characters are actually doing whatever they want to and im like a haggard reporter chasing after them trying to figure out what’s going on.

that said i still really wanted to answer this ask because i think it’s interesting and also because ive already put you through the ringer with the light mode debacle (😭) so its still keiji and shin but a more…platonic take on these prompts?? I HOPE THATS OKAY AUUUAUAUAU;;;

anyways just to offer you a bit of background: keiji and shin are a super interesting duo in ytr to me! keiji takes hinako’s spot, meaning he’s a human who tries to blend in with the dummies. if shin lives, he actually gets paired up with him (i know that doesnt actually fit the role swap but i wanted to anyways because they are the parallel characters of all time to me). i definitely see their relationship starting off with mutual suspicion, with shin being suspicious of keiji’s behaviors (what with him secretly being a double-agent for asunaro n all here <.<) and keiji being suspicious of shin kind of splitting off from the rest of the group. yet, i also see this evolving into a sort of mutual intrigue— they’re both invested in trying to Detective each other out and figure out What This Guy’s Deal Is.

a moment for 45-46 would, to me, definitely take place after it’s revealed that the dummies’ goal is to kill their partners. if shin already didn’t trust keiji, he would certainly not after knowing this info (i mean, come on, mr. 0.0% over here…). and i can TOTALLY see them getting into an argument over that, since a conflict of interests would be born from keiji wanting to keep an eye on shin while shin just wants to be Left The Hell Alone.

i think keiji would make the argument that if shin was really so worried about being targeted, why doesn’t he just make the first move to take out keiji? to which shin would be like are you stupid? then ryoko and everyone else would want me dead. to which keiji would point out…buddy….they kind of already do. he can Sense the antagonism in the air just from how ryoko and shin interact.

he then takes it a step further to observe that shin cant trust anyone, but he doesnt have it in him to betray anyone either. shin would actually be caught off guard at this, but also be like “bitch you too” and say that keiji also hasn’t trusted anyone, hasn’t revealed practically anything about himself.

i think this is where the “realization” part kicks in. shin desperately DOES want to trust others, in this case he even *does* like keiji, but he’s so terrified of letting anyone in (ESPECIALLY after the 2nd main game) when it’s so much easier to push people away.

i think…they’d be able to be a bit candid here. realizing that they’re at a bit of an impasse, i think keiji would be the first to open up a little about Why he acts this way (more of the traumatic past stuff, less of the asunaro stuff for. obvious reasons 💀) and shin would mutually confess how he felt about the death game and that he wants to trust keiji but just feels like he can’t.

the real fun (tragic) part is that i think after having a conversation like this shin would feel hopeful!!!! that maybe even in this awful environment he could find someone he might be able to call a friend(????!!!!) but of course that’s cut short because keiji dies in the banquet 💥💥💥 hence why this is the Worst time for him to realize he actually doesn’t think this guy is half bad. sorry i love making shin suffer </3

The Zeus Case: Why such a messy love life? (1)

Short answer: Because people are parrots who repeat blindly everything they hear without doing their research. :)

Long answer: get ready for a class.

So I expressed several times my strong dislike of TV Tropes’ descriptions of the Greek gods, and they notably use to describe Zeus one quotation from the Youtube channel known as “Overtly Sarcastic Productions”. This is the quote:

From a modern perspective, when we look back at the original tellings, it’s very difficult to see Zeus doing his thing and conclude anything other than that the king of the gods is an omnipotent serial rapist who leaves a trail of shattered lives and bastard children in his wake and this pantheon is a fucking nightmare.

This quote is a perfect summary of how modern Internet perceives Greek mythology... and this point of view is wrong. I am sorry to say that, but it is wrong. I do enjoy the OSP videos, I do follow faithfully their Journey to the West videos and the like - but they also simplify some stuff to fit a small-video format and, of course, ARE OVERTLY SARCASTIC. That’s in their very name. Their videos are fun to watch, but I wouldn’t use them as a scholarly work about Greek mythology.

And so studying Zeus’ love life reveals a much more complicated history and evolution than just “In truth he was a serial rapist but nobody wanted to say it”.

1) If you want it Roman, sprinkle some rape

Let’s tackle already the very concept of “Zeus as a serial rapist”. The answer is: no. I already talked about it previously (see my post about rape in mythology) but the whole reputation of Greek mythology as being all about rape is a huge misunderstanding caused by the Romans. Most of the stories of mythological rape came from the mind of Roman authors and writers. Ovid is a particulary bad offender, because thanks to his rape fetish he either invented lots of rapes or reinvented consensual relationships into rapes - and the problem is that Ovid’s Metamorphoses, despite being a Roman text that built a Romanize mythology, was used for a long time as a source of info about “Greek mythology”. When it was as Greek as Disney’s Hercules. And with Zeus you can actually see that: if you look at the texts in which most of his “rapes” are recorded... They are either Roman texts, or texts written far after the age of Ancient Greece, texts written in a Romanize Greece or by authors who tried to “reconstruct” the lost Greek myths by taking the preserved Roman versions as a source. So while yes Jupiter was a rapist, Zeus wasn’t a “serial rapist”. I haven’t checked EVERY story mind you, so there might some true “ancient rape”, but most of the time there is no rape - at most there is deceiving as for example Zeus will disguise himself under another shape, but this calls for more subtle, case-by-case analysis, as the transformations were done as much to not frighten/kill the often mortal lovers, as to protect said lovers from the wrath of Hera.

2) If you like it, don’t say it

There is an implicit consent in Ancient Greek texts that modern audience, sensibilized to sexual harassment and “the evils of patriarchy”, often does not get. When someone rapes another person, the Ancient Greek author will explicitely say it. There will be descriptions of struggle, of violence, of resistance. If there is no mentions of that, if the relationship is not called a “rape”, it won’t be a rape. This notably led to a great confusion due to several myths describing Zeus “taking away” or “ravishing” a person in animal form, snatching them away from their home or community to isolate them and have love with them. I can sound like rape - but in effect, in the text, it is just ravishing someone. The confusion notably arose in latinized languages thanks to the word “rapt”, “rape”, originally meaning “taking someone away by force - usually with romantic or lustful intents but not always”. With time “rape” became what we know today, but in old-fashioned language a man in love with a girl but refused her hand by her parents, if he took her away from her parents nonetheless, it would be a rapt/rape - even if the girl was in love with him, because it was still forcefully and brutaly stealing away from a family/from parents. There is a big confusion arising from all that.

Second point is that in Ancient Greek texts, there is no need to explicitely describe the love and the consent of two parties to say “this was a consensual relationship”. While rape is explicitely described as rape, consensual love is not glossed much about. It will often just be said as “X laid with Y and they had three kids”. Or “X came into the bed of Y” or “Y was loved by X”. Often only one side of the couple will be evoked, but not because it was a one-sided relationship - just because there is an implicit consent that is not explicitely described. The Greeks thought that by nature, if two people had children together, it meant they had to be in love. If a man was described as “entering a girl’s bed” without mentions of him enslaving her or brutalizing her, it meant that she had allowed him to climb in her bed. It was a thought-structure that has been recently lost in an effort to prevent the “romanticism of rape”, but it was a thought logic that was prevalent in Ancient texts. Rape is explicit, consent is implied.

(This also tied with a very Greek aesthetic of “sexuality is vulgar”. The Greeks were known to be disgusted by too expressive manifestations of desire. Sexuality was a needed and fine thing - but in moderation and subtlety. If someone loudly or openly enjoyed having sex, they were seen as pervs. Poets kept their art... well, poetic, by saying as little as possible about sexuality itself. This is why Ancient Greek statues of male nudes depicted such tiny genital organs. To have a “big one” was seen as something vulgar and ugly, as a manifestation of an excessive lust or overflowing desire that repelled rather than attracted. On the contrary, to have small sexual organs was something attractive, elegant, “polite” we may say.)

3) Confusion

If Zeus’ love life seems so messy today, it is because people confuse everything and mix together stories from so many sources.

I already pointed out that there is a confusion between the Roman sources (aka “Greek myths rape edition”) and the actual Greek sources. But people also love to throw in Orphic content, not realizing that the Orphic religion was not the “mainstream” religion of the Greeks. This is why it is called “Orphic religion”, not “Ancient Greek religion”. Orphic poetry and Orphic literature fits with an Orphic cosmogony and Orphic rites that differ MASSIVELY from what we know as “Greek mythology”. Orphic religion is WEIRD and completely reinvent the Greek gods and legends by mixing them with motifs and concepts taken from Near-East and Middle-East religions and mythologies ; and so “fusing” it with well-known Greek myths such as the Homerics or the Hesiodics necessitates a HUGE rewrite because they were NOT made to fit, they belong to two different worlds.

For example this is where you’ll find the whole legend of Zeus raping Persephone. Which doesn’t fit because if you look at “traditional” Greek myths, Zeus never slept with any of his daughters.

4) Love VS Lust

As I said previously, the Romans and the “late” Greek authors (understand those that wrote in a Romanize Greece or in a post-Roman Greece/Christianized Greece) took the habit of turning the love life of the gods into a series of rapes and savage hunts. This applied to Zeus’ love life.

Because if you look at the older texts, at the “original” texts, what are the words you find? You find the words “seduction” - Zeus “seducing” women, women being “seduced” by Zeus, aka a process of charming and attracting his lovers, and the lovers themselves falling in love with Zeus or allowing him to share a night with them. And you find the word “love”. Zeus explicitely describes his feelings towards his old flames and affairs as “love”, or “sweet love”, “deep love”, “tender love”.

This is in sharp contrast to the later writers and the depictions of rapes who use more explicit words such as “desire” and “lust”. There is a sharp contrast between the “older” Zeus as an all-lover, and the “newer” Zeus as a deity overflowing with lust. Mind you, in Ancient Greece love and sex were still mixed together (virginity being seen as refusing all love, and chaste lovers being unusual couples) but the Greeks still had a clear way of dividing sexuality as driven by love, from sexuality as driven by pure physical desire.

Which does tie into...

5) My weird Greek wedding

Greeks had a different conception of marriage.

Now, I am not adding as a “solid proof” that Zeus was better than what you think, or that him cheating on Hera was a socially accepted thing in any way. One must point out that the laws and society of Ancient Greeks didn’t actually fit their own myths - such as how Greek mythology presents strong, autonomous, “feminist” goddesses when in real life being a woman in Ancient Greece sucked. The Greeks themselves recognized that the gods, due to their inhuman and superior nature, were allowed things forbidden to mankind (for example incest was perfectly allowed and normal among gods, but sternly forbidden among humans - this topic had been discussed at length by the Greeks themselves). But... to take a peek into the society and the social norms of Ancient Greece does allow one to understand better the myths, by having a different light shine onto the legends.

And the reason Zeus’ love life became so debordant (and why in general gods are known to have what we call today “affars”) is because Greek marriage was much more... permissive than our modern-day marriage. But just for men. Women were sworn to complete and utter fidelity and were owned by their husband or consort - they had no way of sleeping with anyone else. HOWEVER... men were allowed to sleep with women other than their wives in given conditions. Don’t understand me wrong: unfaithfulness was seen as a crime by Greek law, and a husband cheating on his wife was to be punished. But the law also allowed the husband to have a legal sex with other women outside of marriage without suffering any kind of punishment. It was the “Pallakai/Hetairai/Gynaekes” system. A man had to marry to a wife, and they could only have one wife to which they were to be faithful (they were the “gynaekes”). The wife was the “guardian of the house” and the keeper of the man’s home, and she was the one supposed to bear the man’s children, as well as the “tool” through which legitimate succession took place. She was a legal and domestic element. But a man was also allowed to have a “pallake”, that is to say a “concubine”. Pallakai were female slaves (either bought through the slave commerce, or taken back as war prisoners) that their master had sex with. Concubines were allowed for sex - but nothing more. They were sex slaves, but they were not supposed to take over the position of a wife. (In the legend of Agamemnon, Cassandra was a pallake/concubine, as opposed to Clytemnestra the wife). And third came the “hetairai”, the prostitutes, who were also legally allowed to have sex with married men in exchange for money.

So in conclusion, married men were allowed to have sex with prostitutes and concubines - as long as they did not made them fill a roll of “wife”. For example, while men were allowed to have pallakai, it was seen as of very poor taste to have your concubine live under the same roof as your wife (no need to tell you the “concubines” were usually found in noble ranks of the Greek society, among the rich and powerful). As it was said : “We have hetairai for pleasure, pallakai for the body’s daily needs, and gynaekes for the bearing of legitimate children and for the guardianship of our houses”. Three different types of sexual relationships allowed within a marriage, with three different purposes. To be crude: a commercial pleasure ; a living sex-toy ; and a legal wife.

Taking this into account, the many extra-marital relationships of Zeus (and other gods) can gain a bit more sense as, in the Greek mindset a married man is allowed to have sexual relationships with other women as long as 1) it is just casual, non-consequence sex and 2) the other women is of a lesser rank (prostitute or slave). If we try to transpose it to the world of the gods, it explains why the male gods are searching for pleasure among mortal women (by definition, “lesser women”, as humans are inferior to gods and would be a good equivalent of prostitutes/slaves to the “citizen”), but never marry any of them and stick to having one divine wife. But in return, applying such a view onto the myths (which again is not the “correct” one, but just another angle) also explains why Hera would become so furious and so mad at Zeus’ affairs - because 1) as said above, Zeus often deeply loved his mistresses, and seems to have treated them as more than just casual one-nights and 2) he had children with them, which is normally the “prerogative” of the wife. This all leads to a divine repetition of the “Cassandra/Clytemnestra” tragedy, when a wife becomes jealous of a concubine when the husband seems too much attached to her, to the point of almost replacing his wife with her.

Because that’s a last point I should add: wives could easily be replaced in Ancient Greece. Well “easy” might be a bit of a strong word, there were legal procedures to be undertaken and there was money to be exchanged, but the thing is that divorce was a normal and usual thing for the Ancient Greeks. And not just for the men! A man could dissolve his marriage and get rid of his wife - but the same way a wife could get rid of her husband and dissolve her marriage. It was all allowed - and in fact this is why Zeus had so many wives before Hera in such a quick succession (up to seven wives if we believe some interpretations of the poems!). This social consideration could also add another point of view on this set of myths - if you decide to have a “social reading” of them - by raising the question “Why doesn’t Zeus leave Hera?” or “Why doesn’t Hera leave Zeus?”. Of course there is an answer to be provided with the construction of the myth itself - they would have never left each other in mythology because they were a couple in religion and a myth of a separation would only have occured if suddenly religion changed and declared the two weren’t a couple anymore, which likely would have never happened... But since we talk here about interpretation of the myths, and “reinventing” the myths, this is a very legitimate question to ask, especially since people keep this very Christianized view of ancient wedding as a thing people are stuck in till death. It opens a lot of funny and fascinating reinterpretations of the Greek myths: try to imagine, why would Zeus not leave Hera when he left his two or six previous wifes, and that despite all the crap going on in their marriage? You can find a dozen of answers going in very different directions...

ADDENDUM: Gods are not characters

... but while I always encourage people to be creative with their reinterpretation of the Greek gods for FICTION, here we are talking about the ACTUAL god and mythical figure, and I have gone a bit too far. Because all these later considerations are actually treating Zeus as a character. It isn’t all wrong - especially since a good chunk of what we know about Greek mythology comes from literary works, so the gods we know are a third “fictional characters”/”literature characters”. But it is also forgetting that they are mythical figures, AND religious figures. You know, actual gods, of a religion, with rites and canons and theological debates ; and figures of myths, as in the equivalent of today’s folktales and fairytales. Archetypes. Stock figures. Metaphores. Allegories. Not entities supposed to have human-like psychology, not entities supposed to be treated as fictional characters of an author’s work ; and whose stories are not supposed to always be coherent or logical - as long as they are powerful and meaningful.

Yes there was a literary Zeus, akin to the various incarnations of Zeus we have in books today (and this is why we have different Zeus depending on the author - an Homeric Zeus, an Hesiodic Zeus...) ; but the religious and “truly mythical” Zeus of Antiquity was probably more akin to the folkloric/artistic/cultural figures we know today. The Grim Reaper, Father Time, Mother Nature, Jack Frost... Everybody knows who they are, what they look like, what they do, but nobody can give them a true “psychology” or will start saying “They’re like that because they had a bad childhood”. Books will give them backstories and personal traits and human depth - but you can’t call it the “true” incarnation of the entity. [Of course the analogy is a bit shaky because the texts of Homer and Hesiodic were heavily religious in nature, and so there is an effort to stick to an established belief and coherent canon - but we know that for later authors, religious authorities of Ancient Greece clearly considered some of their depictions of gods clear blasphemy.]

Note: I originally planned this post to be just one post, but as it turns out I have a LOT of things to say, so I better split my post into two to let you better appreciate the nuances of this debate.

Second note: Of course I do not tell you to believe me on everything. Remember I am just one person, with a knowledge maybe big but still limited. Always double-check, triple-check, go look for other sources - and if I make any mistake don’t hesitate to tell it to me! With such vast and complex topics one can easily get lost into details and forget the big picture ; or the opposite.
