hey! would you mind doing dustin x fem!reader...? about anything really, i just need more fics of him because i love him and i barely ever see any
phew, sorry, life got my ass before I could start this lmao. I got sick again but luckily my new house doesn't have nasty shit in the walls so let's hope this gets better 👍
Anyways, have some awkward teenage flirting and confessions with 641 words ♡
You only said yes when you were asked by a teacher if you wanted to sign up for camp Know-Where because you thought she said camp Nowhere, but next thing you knew you were on a bus full of nerds. Like, textbook nerds. The kids behind you just kept going on and on about science stuff and it gave you a headache. And when you turned around to tell them to shut up, you met Dustin.
Now you can't seem to shake him away from you, even a year later.
"C'mon, just sit in on this session to see if you like it!" Dustin says, trying to convince you to get into d&d for what seems like the millionth time in the span of this short year in which you've known each other.
"For the last time, I have better things to do, Dustin. Speaking of, you have a book report that you can't afford to get an F on if you wanna keep a good grade." You remind him, sticking a finger into his shoulder, watching red bloom in his cheeks as he rolls his eyes and walks past you into the drama room where Hellfire is held. Unfortunately, even though you prefer being alone, you don't like going places by yourself, so you have to jog to catch up with him.
You've never seen him like this before, his eyes wide and lips parted just barely as he listens so intently to Eddie's theatrical speech, you think not even a tornado passing through would shake him. You sit away from the table, watching as he yells and cheers, going through the most colorful range of emotions you've ever seen.
And when they win, who does he go to? Straight to you, taking you in his arms and squeezing tight. "So!?" He says over the yelling of his fellow Hellfire Club members, a big smile on his face. You just shake your head, letting the boy drag you outside along with Mike and Erica, the promise of his mom paying for pizza being what lures the other two, but it's Dustin that seems to capture your focus. He always seems to do that for you, doesn't he? Even in summer camp.
You've been to Dustin's house countless times, but none where him and Mike are arguing over a pizza and character sheets. The phone has rung about 4 times, his mom calling because Mike has to pack for California to see Will and El for spring break, but the boy just refused to pack on time. When he finally does leave, it's just you and Dustin.
Just you and Dustin.
You'd be lying if you said you weren't scared. Not of him, but of yourself. You get this terrible horrible feeling in your chest that you might say something stupid and mess this all up, but it seems like Dustin is one step ahead of you.
"Hey. Hypothetically, what would you say if I.. asked you to the movies this weekend. As a date." He asks you with a slight tilt of his head and a nervous smile. You can't believe your own ears. It's not like you're some science nerd or d&d fanatic like he is, so why you? You don't bother to ask, just grateful this is happening in the first place.
"Hypothetically.. I'd say yes." You reply, your shaky hand finding his own. You hate all this awkward eye contact but you can't seem to look away, not when his eyes seem bluer than normal– god, when did they get so blue?
"Cool.. cool. So.." He starts, trailing off as you nod.
"Yeah. Uh– sure." You say a little too quickly. You're both just laughing a little now, this is just too awkward to take seriously.
But now you've got a date this weekend. And you feel pretty damn good about it.

prompts. ”okay, mom.” / ”what are you doing?” / ”i don't deserve you.”
Tumblr media
when you're shopping for snacks for a movie night..
you walk in front of your boyfriend, pacing faster than him. he's got a basket in hand currently filled with ice cream and energy drinks and sodas and your favourite candies. also popcorn, of course, it's movie night after all.
you stop in front of the cookies section, eyes scanning the shelves up and down. sapnap stops just behind you and sets the basket down on the ground. ”you know, the originals are always the best.” you smile at his words. ”yeah but, sometimes..” you reach for a different flavour of your favourite cookie brand. ”sometimes i crave something a little different.”
when you're getting ready to leave for a walk..
the weather had turned, but sapnap was still determined to get out of the house with you, even if it was just for a short walk outside.
you checked your phone after you'd gotten your shoes on while your boyfriend reached for a jacket.
”babe, bring an extra jacket, it's cold outside.” he looked at you and tilted his head, before reaching for another jacket. ”okay, mom.” you let your jaw fall slack at his words and you let out a gasp. ”i hope the cold air makes you horribly sick.” sap burst out laughing as he turned the door handle, motioning you out ahead of him.
when you're both sick..
despite the fact that both you and your boyfriend felt like shit, you still insisted on taking care of everything. the only help you accepted from dream or george was socialisation and taking things to sapnap from where ever you'd prepared them.
this time, neither of sapnap's roommates were home and it was your job to bring him soup. the steam rising from the bowl made you sniffle, your sinuses weren't clearing up and after all the vix you'd used you really hoped they would've cleared. ”you know you don't have to do this f'me, right?” he hesitantly takes the bowl from you and sets it in his lap, phone tossed to the side.
”yeah i know, but i enjoy helping you.” you give him a lopsided smile, and you start to feel an oncoming sneeze so you turn away, face in your arm. achoo! the warmth of your boyfriend's hand on your back makes you turn back to him, face dusted pink all over, a sign of your cold. ”i don't deserve you peach.”
”yes you do, now eat the soup, i'm going to run a bath for myself, you're welcome to join when you're done sicky.” he smiles at you, and then he runs into a coughing fit. ”i'll grab you cough drops and make more tea first.”
when you first tried cooking in his home..
sapnap figured it was just clay cooking at first, so he didn't get up from his spot in his bed. he knew you were over, but you'd only told him you were hungry and then you got up. when he looked up from his phone to see clay standing in the doorway, he was surprised. ”what are you making?” he'd asked before clay could say anything. ”what? i'm not cooking anything.”
”then who's–” clay shrugged, and the together the pair left his room, heading for the kitchen. it would've been strange for george to be cooking. he never cooked.
the only thing stranger than seeing george cooking was the sight before your boyfriend and his roommate. you were humming along to some random tune, kind of swaying around the kitchen as you moved, mixing ingredients into bowls and moving things into the sink and the oven. ”hey peach. what're you doin'?” you froze in your tracks. you turned to look at sap and clay. ”uh, just thought i'd make a little somethin'.” you sounded so nonchalant but the mess around you was anything but. ”y/n uh-” clay scratched at the back of his neck. ”darlin' this doesn't look like a little something.” you looked around the kitchen and laughed. ”i guess you're right.”

Gonna go ahead and tag you guys real quick since y'all asked for the same character, but I'd feel bad answering to only one of you: @soulofamy @mommahoodie @ank3kur0
Also, I got a bingo! Yay!
Tumblr media
I'll be honest, what if I told you I didn't like Grøh at first?
Shocking, considering I gush over this guy time and time again, but let me explain.
I'll admit I played the Main Chronicle first before Libra of Soul and one of the first things he does is come out of nowhere to ambush Kilik, and putting myself in Kilik's shoes, I'm just as confused as to what the fuck just happened and why he straight up attacked him.
But the thing I learned about Grøh from that scene and the one where he meets the Conduit in Libra of Soul is that he doesn't exactly give off the best of first impressions: he's stand-offish, cold, and blunt (some will call him pessimistic, like I did at one point, others will say he's telling the cold hard truth no one at the time wanted to hear), didn't stop to think about the feelings of others and would rather push them away.
So what made me go a complete 180° on my mind about Grøh?
One simple answer is that, unlike Taki in that story, Grøh does come back to help Kilik and Xianghua get to Nightmare hiding out in Ostrheinsburg Castle, which ultimately made me curious about him that his Soul Chronicle became the first one I watched after completing the Main Chronicle.
The complicated answer is that I actually sort of relate to Grøh in the sense of, "I act aloof and cold at times without meaning to, I've made people cry because I get blunt as a sledgehammer when I thought it was me being honest with them, and I tend to push people away in favour of protecting myself and others from harm."
Point is, it took time, patience, and a bit of looking in the mirror to get me completely on board with Grøh's character.
Then I watched his Soul Chronicle and we got hints as to why he acts the way he does, something I have sort of expected all along: The Malfested took his friends, family and home from him, Nightmare took away his squad and a part of his humanity away and made it ten times harder to be himself without the fear of his Malfested side taking control over him, Azwel basically gave Grøh the worst kind of emotional whiplash imaginable by saving his life and then forcing him to fight and kill his best friend Curtis when he revealed his secret to him, meanwhile also having Orzal, his teacher and probably the closest thing to a father figure in the Aval Organization, killed during Azwel's defection.
Then I finally get to Libra of Soul and I see him slowly open up to the Conduit and soften his heart for them and it's just...
...If Project Soul's definition of slow burn is not only having him and another character bond over time, but also having you, as the player, bond with him over time, then that deserves a chef's kiss from me!
Also, Grøh ends up standing between the Conduit and danger coming for them TWICE, if not THRICE. First being Valtro when we see his Malfested self for the first time, second being an attempt to protect them while they were sick but he messed up his footing in his attack before Taki came out of nowhere to finish the Berserker off, and then finally standing between them and Azwel in that cutscene in the Shrine of Eurydice before reckless succumbing to his Malfestation and throwing Azwel and himself off a goddamn cliff.
Like guys, one time is an instance, two times is a coincidence, and three or more times ends up becoming a pattern.
Also to add to what I said in the previous post about the final fight with Azwel being cathartic because you're making him pay for what he's done, I also fought Azwel in the name of Grøh knowing how much he suffered because of that fucker and that I felt was fulfilling a promise.
So it's no surprise that at the end of the Soul Calibur/Good Route, I cried when Grøh looked back to the camera, to the Conduit, and gave a smile, something that is a first in this game mode. It felt to me that not only is he thanking the Conduit for basically saving his life and bringing back his humanity, it's like a very emotional thank you to the player for playing Libra of Soul.
I also finished the Soul Edge/Evil Route a while back and yeah, it felt gut-wrenching having to fight him with Soul Edge, and just like that, a piece of me died when Grøh died.
So yeah, I can fully say without a shadow of a doubt that I fell in love with this character in a fashion I didn't expect to.
Regarding his design, I'm not too deep into the lore of King Arthur and the Knights of Avalon, but I do enjoy people's take on the lore (Quest for Camelot was one of my favourite movies growing up). Plus, I am also a sucker for Norse mythology and I liked how he kinda looked like Odin with the eye patch and the fur on his coat and the fact that he's from Norway. And the way they basically combined the two is very interesting to me. I also fuck with the punk aesthetic he's got going on.
One headcanon that I see a lot of people use and one I agree with a lot is that since we don't know how old he is or when his home got attacked or how long he's been part of the Aval Organization, I figured he probably was rescued and raised by the Aval Organization when he was really young, which would sort of explain why the Oath he took about taking on the Malfested, or Outsiders, is deeply ingrained into his mindset and why he follows his orders to the letter.
It also saddens me that he doesn't get a lot of love in the fandom or isn't as remembered as much as the other characters, to the point where there was a time a friend thought he was an OC of mine, granted she didn't know he wasn't cos she doesn't participate in the Soul Calibur fandom, but still.
Tumblr media
But yeah, just gonna wrap up these asks and say that I love Grøh a lot as a character and I think is an underrated gem.
And maybe an analogy that Grøh is like a shy, distrustful yet lovable guard dog that I adopted at a shelter, while (to add to the previous post) Azwel's the chaotic cat causing mayhem in everybody's wake that I found in a dumpster in an alleyway one Monday morning.

Kalim x Jamil hanahaki (cw: blood)
Kalim wasn't very surprised that morning when he felt the need to throw up, only to be met with those white petals of the flowers his attendant loved.
He should’ve known this would happen eventually, after the incident there was no way Jamil liked him back, he already said he hated him.
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door from the boy who caused this.
"Kalim, if you're already awake, get ready for school. Breakfast is almost done," Jamil said curtly before walking off.
Kalim wiped his mouth with his hand and could only really stare down at the blood that came with the flower petals.
He got up, washed his hands and face and stepped out of the bathroom to get ready for the day.
After a bit, Jamil came in again, "Good, you're dre-did you do your bow all by yourself? It's a mess." He said, almost sounding offended.
Kalim gulped and quickly faced Jamil with his usual bright smile, "Yep! Thought I'd give it a try today!" He laughed.
Jamil sighed, "Idiot," he walked over and untied the scarf from around his head, refashioning it into the proper bow like he'd done so many times before.
Kalim smiled up at him, though his heart ached more than ever, "Thanks Jamil! But seriously let me handle it from now on, you've got a lot of stuff to handle already."
Jamil didn't like that Kalim said that, he knew when Kalim insisted on doing things himself that he was upset about something…and that it was best to leave him be until he ran to Jamil in tears. He'd just have to wait for that to happen, like always.
Kalim could feel the petals tickle his throat again as he watched Jamil begin to walk away.
"I just remembered, I have club this morning, go ahead and eat without me. Lilia is bound to have a snack I can eat before class."
Before Jamil could respond that he knew Kalim didn't have a meeting today the boy ran out in front of him, not even saying goodbye.
"He's just a little upset…he'll come talk to me the second he can't take it" he thought, really hoping he was right.
~~
Jamil didn't like that Kalim wasn't answering his texts, he always answered right away, but since he left for 'club' he was just reading them.
He had to get to the bottom of this.
Thankfully lunch was right after this period, so as soon as this class finished he'd go talk to Kalim while they ate.
"Settle down class, it's not lunch just yet" Mozus said, "Today we'll be going over magic diseases, turn in your textbooks to page 96."
Jamil did so, looking at the page as Mozus began to speak.
"Roots of unrequited love or more simply known as hanahaki disease. It's a rare sickness in which a person whose feelings for someone are not returned, thus they cough up flower petals and blood, if they do not have the flower removed it will slowly begin to kill them."
Jamil listened silently but his mind began to drift towards Kalim…what could be bothering him so much?
His thoughts continued until class finally ended. He quickly got up and made his way to the cafeteria where Kalim was as expected.
"Kalim, come with me, we're going to eat outside." Jamil grabbed his wrist which Kalim froze at but didn't protest.
"Ah, yeah ok!" He said cheerfully, though he was panicking inside, his coughing has gotten worse through the day, now that Jamil was here his throat hurt more than ever.
He was led outside and sat down as Jamil opened up his lunchbox, "here, I packed you fish with rice and vegetables, make sure you eat it all since you didn't have breakfast."
"Right, looks great Jamil, I'm starved." He said before taking a bite of the food.
It was delicious as always, Jamil's food was amazing…and it hurt, it hurt so bad.
He started coughing, before Jamil could do anything, blood and petals came falling out of Kalim's mouth.
"Kalim! Hey come on, let's go to the nurse, you'll be O…kay…" he trailed as Kalim looked at him with blank eyes with tears streaming down his face.
"Ja…mil…"
It was all he could sputter before passing out.
Jamil stayed frozen before suddenly grabbing Kalim and rushing as fast as he could to the nurses office.
~~
Kalim slowly began to wake up somewhere, he couldn't move but his throat and now chest hurt.
"What do you mean you can't do the surgery without contacting his parents?! He's dying! If he dies now then what do you tell his parents then?! Jamil yelled at the doctor.
"Listen young man, we're doing what we can with the time we have, but unless his parents can get here we can't perform the surgery."
Jamil groaned and walked into Kalim's room and pulled his phone out, dialing a number, "Come on come on, pick up…" he mumbled.
"Jamil…?" Kalim asked with a hoarse voice.
The boy turned away from the phone and rushed over to him, "Kalim! Hey, what happened? What jerk doesn't like you back? I'll give him hell!" He yelled, helping him sit up.
Kalim couldn't help but start crying again, "don't…it…it wouldn't help" he whimpered.
"I just need to know who it is, I don't like seeing you suffer, I need to let him know so-"
"There's no point…there's no point in hurting yourself over me, you've done that enough…"
Jamil went silent. Hurting himself over Kalim…
"It's…me?" He asked.
Kalim could only nod, "I already hurt you enough, I'll be ok even if you don't like me back."
Jamil could only grit his teeth, starting to cry himself.
"Idiot! Who let you decide that I didn't love you?! I know what I said when I overblotted but I'm over that! I love you more than anyone, if I lose you, what's the point of me waking up every day if you're not there smiling at me and enjoying my presence?!"
He began sobbing and stared at Kalim with sadness and anger.
"Don't you die on me…don't…Kalim I can't lose you…" he mumbled, grabbing his hand and holding it to his face, "Don't die."
Kalim stared at him before slowly bringing his other hand up and caressing Jamil's face softly.
"I'm sorry Jamil, I didn't mean to scare you, but I thought you'd reject me immediately, that's why I didn't say anything…"
Jamil leaned into his touch, gently kissing the hand he was holding, "We tell each other everything and I mean everything from now on, do it or no coconut juice til you graduate," he huffed slightly.
Kalim giggled, "I promise, so let me tell you that I love you."
He received another kiss on his hand and then one on his forehead, "I love you too, Kalim."
~~
Days later, Kalim hummed a happy tune as Jamil helped him get dressed for school.
He watched as Jamil tied the bow on his head before gently placing a kiss on top.
Kalim blushed lightly, "You've been dying to do that haven't you?" He asked his boyfriend.
Jamil blushed as well, "I don't know what you're talking about…but yes."
He stood up and grabbed his hand, "Come on, I need to get going to class since I got all that makeup work."
"Right, if you need help just tell me, I can't have you getting held back."
"If I do well will you make my favorite dinner?"
"I don't recall making such a promise."
"Pleeeeeeeeeeease?"
"Ugh, fine, only cuz you're begging me."
"Yay!"
The new couple walked out of the room, standing close together. Hands intertwined, never to separate.

* (  SNOW ANGEL BY RENEE RAPP /  SENTENCE PROMPTS
It didn't feel like a dream
Don't think I could love you more
So what the hell does it all mean
I'm takin' everything I see as a sign
I know it's crazy but what if it's right
I think I talk too much
That's just the deal that I made
Do you still wanna be with me?
I have no idea
I'll forgive you
You got to be a big hometown hero
As far as I'm concerned, they should just burn the whole city down
You don't love me
God forbid, you're not the center of attention
Don't you miss me?
You must be exhausted
You get on my nerves
You're so fucking annoying
You're the worst person on Earth
Forgiving you is pointless
It didn't have to be like this
You almost got away with it
Unlucky for you, I am that bitch
You're so fucking perfect
I bet you're sick of it
I could never pick a side
What's misery without company
It's hard to laugh when it's hard to breathe
But if it kills me I tried
I tried so hard
I came so far
He broke my heart
I found out from a friend of a friend that you're here again
So what now?
I'm gonna love you 'til my heart retires
Why'd you have to mess it all up?
Yeah, it's a blessing and it's a curse
I can predict this shit line by line
I just want some recognition
In hindsight, that might be the worst part
Some goodbyes are forever
I know too much now
I wish I could still see the world through those eyes
Stay a little longer
I'm not ready for you to go
I know it's hard to slow down when there's still more to go
Don't cry
I still can't fly
Thought I'd be ahead but I'm down by five
Everything looks good on paper
I still haven't learned to calm down
My wish should be different by now
My wish is that I cared less
I hope that I can care less
But I'm afraid to care less

High Cheng - Xu Minghao x Reader StonerAU (On-Going) Chapter Two
What happens when you get dragged to your best friends boyfriends party and end up getting high with a hot stranger, whom you got along with very well, only to realise the next day, you never got his name?
PLEASE READ AUTHORS NOTE AT THE END
Feedback/Constructive Criticism/Concerns can be given VIA comments, email ([email protected]), or private messages.
Read Chapter One: All Big Parties Suck
CHAPTER TWO: A Smoking (hot) Stranger
MASTERLIST
DISCLAIMER: Drug Usage, Mentions of SA, College Party, Smoking
"Do you wanna, uh join me? On my balcony I mean."
I stay silent.
"I'm just saying cause, I get what you mean by finding my balcony relaxing. Its the sole reason I chose this to be my room. And I wouldn't want to overwhelm you more by forcing you back into that hectic mess."
I think for a short while. I mean, it's better than going back out there and crying more.
"Uh, yeah. Sure. That would be great."
"Cool! Let me just grab some beanbags I have in my closet so we aren't just sitting on the cold hard floor." He says as he makes his way to his closet pulling out two beanbags and bringing them out to his balcony.
I follow him in silence before sitting down on one of the beanbags and stare at the night sky.
A few minutes of silence passes by.
"Are you cool if I uh, smoke? It just my way of relaxing... If you aren't cool with it then I won't. I just wanted to ask" The hot stranger asks, breaking the silence.
"Oh, yeah! Go ahead. I don't mind."
"Are you sure? I just don't want the weed smell and all to annoy or affect you in any way."
"No, no. You're okay! I used to smoke so I'm used to all of that anyways."
"Used to?" He inquires as he pulls out a little box with pre-rolled joints and a lighter.
"Mhm! I used to smoke a fair bit, but then school got harder, and took up more time and brain power until smoking wasn't a thought anymore. I just didn't have time. Plus, schools gotta come first, no?"
By now he has lit the joint, taken a puff and now the smell is starting to become familiar.
"I guess so. But having fun is also something that should come first. I mean, if all you do is work, wheres the fun in that." He takes another hit. "I mean, don't get me wrong. I only smoke in moderation, unless its school break. I mean I can't let it affect my school life. But, we're also in college. We're supposed to be drunk or fried half to time."
I laugh. "I guess so. I mean, it did help with the stress. Especially whenever I'd have Mr 'Havoc' Harrison. I swear he's the sole reason I used to smoke so much. Fucking annoying as hell. Never let us have a break"
"You mean Gary Harrison? Teaches communications?" he inquires with enthusiasm.
"Yeah, why, you've had him before?"
"Fucking hell, of course I have. I had to take one of his courses for my major or some shit. He's a shit teacher, no wonder he'd give us so much homework and assignments, cause the asshole never taught anything himself."
"Ugh, I get what you mean! Once I got super sick and couldn't turn up to classes and although I was emailing him about the lectures if he could forward me them or just tell me what we learnt, he just didn't! So when I approached him about it, he responded with 'Oh! I saw them. But you should've turned up to class instead of flaking on my classes. I'm not giving you resources for free.' Like, free! Dude I pay for your classes and all your stupid materials that we never use."
"Woah, really? Jesus, that must've sucked tenfold for ya. I still have no idea why he still teaches at this school."
I sigh. The anger in the rant, plus all the added emotions from the previous scenarios from this party, not to mention the smell of this guys joint, it's making me wanna-
"Hey." He says cutting off my thoughts. "You wanna hit?"
I look at him. "Huh?"
"I mean, today sure as hell must have sucked for you to be sitting out here in my balcony. Not to mention all the emotions rising in you after that rant. Plus you said you used to smoke to relax or destress, right? Why not smoke a joint?"
"Oh, I mean. I don't know. It's been a while."
"Just give it a try. I'll give you wanna my pre-rolled ones if you want?"
I look at him, unsure what to do.
"If you're still unsure, why not just take a few hits from my joint and if you don't want anymore, I'll happily smoke the rest."
If it were any other person in this world offering me this, offering me a joint, a total stranger. I would say no in a heartbeat. But, I wanna say yes. This man, this very attractive man, just makes me feel safe. Heck if it was anyone else, I wouldn't be here on a random balcony. But here I am. Making stupid choices. And this next choice might be one of them.
"You know what, sure. I'll take some hits from your joint."
Read Chapter Three: A Cry Fest
A/N: Please give me feedback on my writing! Two more chapters are posted (as of 23rd Feb 2024) however, the story is on-going.
This book is still in the works, and I desperately want to finish it this year. However, I'd like to make everyone aware of three issues. a) There are only three chapters published right now as I want to receive feedback from my audience on my writing style and plot building. Despite having been writing for many years, I am not confident in the style that I use for my stories and would appreciate constructive critique to help me improve future chapters. After a month of posting the chapters, further content will be added throughout this trail, I will collect the feedback, delete this section of my disclaimer, and apply my audience's feedback. Second, I am in my final year of school, therefore school comes first. Furthermore, my weekly schedule is extremely hectic, so many of these will be written during my rare free time or at times when most people are sleeping (don't worry, I will prioritise my health). Finally, this book covers mature issues like as drug usage, smoking, alcohol use, cheating, references to SA, and more. These will all be addressed at the start of the chapter so that you are aware in case triggers arise. Furthermore, I have never used drugs or any of the other topics discussed in this book, so I apologise if anything is incorrect.
Feedback/Constructive Criticism/Concerns can be given VIA comments, email ([email protected]), or private messages.

I humbly request a fic where Arthur learns some magic if you don't mind writing it. I think it'd be so fun in your style. - anon
I need gwaine and Arthur hurt/comfort (hurt arthur) to breathe and live please and thank you (/nm /pos) - anon
Read on Ao3
Warnings: none
Pairings: merthur, can be platonic or romantic you decide
Word Count: 2048
In the aftermath of one particular sorcerer's attack, Merlin is left to recover while Arthur contemplates how it feels to be so helpless against an enemy that threatens Merlin, Camelot, his people, and Merlin.
Gwaine and Lancelot both have some advice, but it's up to the two idiots to decide whether to take it or not.
"Alright," Gwaine announces, pushing open Arthur's door with about as little ceremony as he throws his boots into a corner when he shucks them off, "that's enough sulking, Princess, we're all sick of it."
Arthur barely even looks up. Still in his armor, his sword laid across his knee, whetstone in hand. The slow shirking sound of sharpening metal fills the room as Gwaine sighs.
"Look, you going to tell me what's got you all sulky or am I just going to have to guess?"
"I have a feeling very little would stop you doing that." Arthur doesn't look up at this either. "So go ahead."
"Your boots not exactly as warm as they should be? The kitchen messing up and giving your blueberries instead of strawberries? Your red cloak with the silver studs is in the laundry so you had to wear the red one with the gold studs?"
Still sharpening the sword, Arthur huffs. "They're pewter, Gwaine, and I think we both know why I'm upset."
"Ah! So he admits it!" Even as Gwaine raises his hands in mock celebration, a twinge of worry plants itself in his chest as he hears Arthur actually admit he's worried about something. "Will wonders never cease? Pray tell, dear Prince, what it is that ails you?"
A pause, long enough for two more passes of the whetstone. Then: "Is Merlin alright?"
Gwaine stops, sitting down next to him. He sobers a little, leaning his weight on one knee. "Yeah. He's alright. Just a bit tired."
"Lancelot's with him?"
"Yeah, in their room." He looks over as Arthur's fingers flex. "You know, he'd probably share with you if you asked him."
Arthur doesn't respond to that, only sets the whetstone aside and reaches for a rage. Gwaine raises an eyebrow.
"Is this your way of telling Merlin he doesn't do a good enough job, or—"
"No."
The sudden ferocity in Arthur's voice gives Gwaine pause. He looks over again and sees the way Arthur grips the rag so tightly it almost whines under the pressure. He waits, watching Arthur take a deep breath.
"No," he repeats, more calmly this time, "it isn't. Merlin hasn't polished my sword in several weeks now."
It's not the time, Gwaine scolds himself, but really the fruit is hanging so low it's hard to see anything else.
"He's enough else to worry about," Arthur continues, oblivious—or perhaps willing to overlook—the thoughts running through Gwaine's head, "and it's one of the few of his tasks that I am capable of doing just fine on my own."
If it were another task, or perhaps if Arthur's hands had shaken less, Gwaine would've seized this low hanging-fruit instead, but as it stands, he simply nods. "Never thought I'd see the day where you admitted Merlin's better at something than you."
"Nonsense, I've called him a bigger fool than I am for years." It falls flat and they both know it. After another moment, Arthur sighs. "And…perhaps I'm just now learning the extent of Merlin's…duties."
Gwaine hums, looking at the floor too. "A one-man army, our Merlin is."
"Except armies aren't supposed to be one man," Arthur growls, "that's why they're armies. Groups, a team, men fighting alongside each other as brothers, as equals, how can—"
The rag does groan, the sword lying forgotten as Arthur closes his eyes.
"How can Merlin be an army," he says finally, "with no one else to support him?"
"He's got us," Gwaine says, "he's got you."
"But what can I do?" For not the first time, but the first time in a long while, disgust and shame color Arthur's face as he looks down at his sword. "I can't fight magic with a sword. There's only so much a prat in metal armor can do against the type of enemies that wish Merlin dead."
"I'd say we've proven that running any man through with a sword does work, magic or otherwise."
"That's not the point, Gwaine."
"I know." He shifts his weight, easing a cramp. "Why not learn some magic yourself?"
Now Arthur looks at him, although it is the same way one looks at a pig trying to fly. "Excuse me?"
"Merlin's born with magic, but most people aren't. They learn it. Gaius learned it, most of the people have magic items or things that give them magic, why not learn some of it yourself? That way when Merlin's off being all impressive we can do the little things that are the equivalent of sweeping the floor."
Arthur frowns. "Do the thing my father outlawed? Do the thing he killed people for? Do the very thing that is treason and would get me executed?"
"Yeah, that."
"Have you been drinking?"
"Stone cold sober." Arthur huffs, disbelieving, but Gwaine leans closer. "You said it yourself. Merlin's alone, and more often than not, he probably feels it because of how magic's talked about around here. If you showed that you were willing to learn, that you acknowledge the kind of pressure he's under, then maybe he won't feel it so much."
Arthur's quiet for a long moment, just looking at him, before he nods once. "Alright. I'll ask him."
"There you go."
"You know, you give good advice when you're sober. You should try it more."
"Oh?"
"Or I'll make you one of my advisors when I become King."
"Alright, alright, there's no need to threaten me."
***
Lancelot looks up when Merlin opens the door, putting his book down and pulling out a chair by the fireplace. "What?"
Merlin walks over, cane leaning against the cobbles. It topples over and he sits it back up. It topples over again and he sighs, eyes glowing as it goes back to its resting place and stays. Lancelot chuckles, helping Merlin set his leg on his knee and reaching for the oil.
"Arthur asked me to teach him magic today."
Lancelot's hands fumble momentarily with the oil. "He what?"
"Said he was 'just now learning' all the things I do—"
"Better late than never, I suppose."
"—right, and then asked if he could learn some easy to…"
The cork finally gives and Lancelot raises an eyebrow. "To…?"
"…'sweep the floor,' as it were, when we have to face magical threats."
Merlin sighs as Lancelot starts to massage his bad leg, head tilting back. From the warm glow of the fire, Lancelot can see how thin his face is becoming and the deep bags under his eyes. "What do you think of it?"
"I think I was tempted to go to Gaius and have him looked at."
Lancelot chuckles. "And then?"
"And then I wondered if it was a trick. To get me to show my magic so he could arrest me."
"I'd never let that happen, Merlin. None of the knights would. Morgana wouldn't."
"I know," comes the mulish reply, "I didn't think it for very long."
He gathers a bit more oil and works it in, focusing on a particularly stubborn knot as the fire crackles. After a moment, he looks up again. "Do you think you will?"
Merlin shifts. "I don't know. It would…it would be nice to have someone else with magic."
"Morgana—"
"Morgana does enough already."
"And you don't?" At his guilty shift, Lancelot sighs. "Merlin, Arthur's trying. In his own stubborn way, he's trying. You know that, right?"
"Of course I know it. Ow!"
"Sorry." He shifts his grip. "But then you know that means he's not asking because he wants the power or he doesn't know any better. He's asking to help you."
"I know."
"Who knows, maybe he'll be good at healing."
Merlin snorts. "Gaius would be proud."
"No prouder than he is of you, I'm sure."
"Shut up." But it's weak and undone by the way Merlin looks at him a moment later. "You think I should do it?"
"I think putting your faith in Arthur has served you well in the past," Lancelot replies, smiling softly, "as has my faith in you."
A small smile lifts the corner of his mouth. "Did Gwaine teach you that one?"
"Of course not. I taught him that one."
"You didn't."
Lancelot merely returns to massaging his leg.
"You didn't. Lancelot—wait, what else did you teach him?"
"I don't kiss and tell, Merlin."
"Oh, yes, you do, especially when it's to me. Now spill."
***
In the end, they decide to try a very simple spell first. Elemental magic is among one of the most dangerous, but its power is the easiest to tap into for beginners, so fire manipulation it is.
"Why didn't you just light the candle with magic?"
"Because you're not going to be able to do that for a while and I didn't want to get your hopes up."
Arthur pouts but nods, tapping his fingers on the table as Merlin steeples his fingers.
"Forbærne."
The flame rises, licking higher and higher, until it's almost the height of the window, before it resettles. Arthur's eyes widen as he watches and he lets out a slow breath that makes the flame wobble as he looks up at Merlin.
"…am I supposed to do that?"
"No, just make it grow a little."
Arthur narrows his eyes. "You wouldn't have happened to talk to Gwaine about why you chose this demonstration for our first lesson, did you?"
"No, why—oh."
"That's a no, then."
Merlin shakes his head. "Here, let's try this instead. Forbærne."
This time, instead of growing taller and taller, the flame flares brighter, changing into an almost golden color before resettling. Arthur frowns. "But you said the same thing."
"Magic isn't about one word translating to one effect, it's about translating what you want to happen into what will happen." When Arthur just blinks, he sighs. "I wanted it to burn a certain way so I used the word for 'burn.'"
"…let's start there."
Merlin nods to the candle. "Now. Find the part of you that understands why the fire burns and ask it to change."
"This sounds suspiciously like poetry."
"It is like poetry. No two men read the same poem the same way, no two magic users use magic the same way."
Arthur looks at him doubtfully before taking a deep breath and focusing on the candle. "Forbærne."
Nothing.
"Forbærne. Forbærne." He throws his hands up. "It's not working."
"You have to believe."
"I do believe, my hair near got scorched when you did it not ten seconds ago."
"But you have to believe you can do it." Merlin gestures between them. "You have to believe that the power will flow the direction you want it to when you ask it. You need to become a vessel to channel it. It won't just happen if you don't make yourself open to it."
"How do I do that, though? I've never—I don't—I don't understand magic."
"You do," Merlin says patiently, voice softening a little at the obvious distress in Arthur's voice, "you were born of it. Magic brought you into this world. It surrounds you, you're—you're closer to it than you think."
Arthur stares doubtfully at the candle flame.
"It's not a sword. You can't pick it up and put it down. It's part of you. You don't reach out and grab it, you open your hand and it fits there." Merlin pushes the candle a little closer to him. "You can do it."
Arthur closes his eyes. He takes another deep breath and something in his shoulders changes. When he opens his eyes again, the flame dances behind his eyes.
"Forbærne."
The candle flame flickers and glows a deep, warm red.
Arthur looks up at him in wonder and for a second, a bit of gold glows in his eyes too.

Well I've been daily updating twitter ofcourse. I kind of at the last moment decided I was going to do a daily doodle thing. I did this years ago, where I drew something every day for a year. I'm not doing a full illustration this time just really simple, essentially a couple lines and thats it. Just to help the creative juices flowing. I probably wont stick it out for an entire year but I keep getting myself backed up into an artistic corner and I want to back back out of it and find a new corner. Instead while I've been doing that, I've also been using it as an excuse to update the status of my current ailment.
Tumblr media
so essentially, I had already self-diagnosed myself with the flu but I did go ahead and made an urgent care appointment on Saturday (?). I will say that I normally get a flu shot, every year, I did not get one this year. Next year I will definitely be getting one. I definitely got this from my coworkers and theres was like 3x milder than mine. My immune system was not prepared.
I did not want to physically go to urgent care because I didn't feel safe driving. I was super short of breath and I felt very drunk (because its in my ears! my ears are messed up). Also, didn't want to sit in a waiting room when sitting up sounded like a lot of effort and besides, what is urgent care going to tell me that I dont already know? viruses are treated with rest and fluids and thats it. However, I assumed my boss was going to be on top of me for some sort of a work note even though I'm not a full time employee and I dont feel like I should need one but I had agreed to work on monday and if I called in she'd probably pitch a fit. I discovered, thanks to the local spouse groups, that there was a local mobile urgent care. They came to my house! I schedule an appointment and they came out about an hour later. The most convenient thing ever. They apparently didn't take my insurance so they charged me 179$ out of pocket but I wasn't going to complain. I didn't have to go anywhere. I could track the MA on gps and they sent me his photo so I didn't "have to be scared" lmao. It was all very nice.
I had already tested myself for covid and it was negative. I was tempted to start myself on prednisone (because I practically have an entire pharmacy at home) but HR was a good 115 and adding steroid to that sounded not fun. Normally my HR runs 60s if Im calm and 80s if Im stressed. 115 with steroids on board didn't sound like fun. My 02 was dropping to 93 when I was up and walking around but it would go back up to the high 90s. This poor MA came with a laptop that virutally connected to a PA and they were like "what do you want me to do for you?" like I guess I mainly just wanted to make sure that I was safe to be at home and I have evidence I saw some sort of healthcare person as proof.
I oddly enough didn't have much of a cough until about yesterday. I was feeling short of breath and when I did cough I'd cough gunk up but mainly it just hurt to cough but it wasn't frequent at all. Now I'm coughing alot. The worst part was the hot/cold flashes. I completely drenched the bed in sweat. I've never seen that much water come off of me. I literally touched the valley of my stomach and it was a puddle. I splished my hands in it. I would alternate between uncontrollable sweating to then freezing to death. I thought I'd be over it and I washed all my linens yesterday and then last night, just sweat everywhere. Which was annoying because I felt....nagged..?..guilttripped? to go into work today by my boss. Like I was faking it..I couldnt possibly be sick that long(my coworkers recovered in 2 days)..maybe I was crazy and I wasn't sick?
so I did! I WENT TO WORK TODAY. My coworkers were actually fine. They said they were actually surprised they handled things well without me. I'm simultaneously proud of them and really aggravated that I went in. Because I really did feel terrible. I realized real fast how weak I was and my brain was not functioning. I even gave myself the easiest roll I could where I was off in a corner away from people and I was struggling. I was struggling to walk and I was struggling to stand. My partner at work let me know how bad I looked too. I apparently looked like a frail old lady. Which was nice.
So I went home. My boss is like "wait where you going?". I guess in her defense she came equipped with a bunch of throat lozenges for me but I didn't have a sore throat. I have no energy and cant breath. So I'm going home. I dont work tomorrow btw.

(1) Body/Spaces: The stomach
I wish our bodies could become blooming miracles, but it feels like our bodies don’t bloom, they just unfurl into shorn sheets. At times it seems our stomachs are portals full of liquid, blistering into a rolling boil whenever our minds get ahead of us or we accidentally slam into the past. In this boiling, they churn in time with every situation streaming through our minds’ eyes: the physical portion of an impossible transport, a journey that continues like a fractal zooming in forever. This is a synchronized system. We were both pressured – cooked throughout childhood – and instead of making diamonds we taught our fleshy parts to work in tandem like this. Taking after us, our bodies have been good students, practiced every day.
I'd like to crack open my stomach lining to see what lies inside. 50/50 chances, there's some treasure in there or a little creature – either a new gem, worth so much that global governments would compete to dissect me for more of it, or a small fellow working his day job, who’d be very upset with me for cracking open his office. If it were the latter, sure, I'd apologize, but I'd also insist, I must have a tour of the place, my good sir. And you know what? I think he'd give me one, even if he were scowling the entire time. I’d hope to see a garden inside because with so much going on in there, it must get dank and gloomy. Plants would make for good company. Green leaves and flowers would keep things fresh. They’d keep up his energy so that he can maintain the smooth operations of my body.
Maybe we both have little men working away in our stomachs. Maybe your man is some extraordinary mess, so your stomach is in complete chaos and that’s why you've been getting sicker lately. That’d be the most exciting excuse you’ve been given. A little man – I’m sure he’s in there. It’s actually been a rough couple of months for him, so he’s been letting out his stress on the lining of your stomach. Of course you wouldn’t be able to eat with someone scratching up your insides. People just don't realize that their co-workers are people too, you know? So, they act with no thought of the consequences. They’re just here to work, then leave, so who cares if you scratch up the paint?
There are some other possibilities however: maybe you’ve got a feral animal in there, some big-fanged wolf-dog that’s scared your little caretaker into the next organ over, leaving behind this disarray. Feral canines are really a scourge. But if we can get some fences installed while it's out hunting, spray some No Bite! all around, and buy some sweets (a big box of well glazed Timbits) for your little office worker, we can coax him back into his place. Then he’d get back to his regular schedule and you’d finally feel better. You could keep on your feet for an entire day without waves of sudden weakness. There’d be no need for you to adjust to this sickness, no new bodily experience defined by some extreme illness. We’d sort it all out for you and you’d be back to good health. You’d get to go back to being yourself. For once, you wouldn’t have to trudge through another sudden ailment.

I feel like I wasted my summer.
On paper I know I didn't. I worked for a month and a half at a place I've always wanted to work. I hung out with new friends more than I expected to. I hung out with old friends. I auditioned for a show and got a callback for the first time in my life (didn't get cast but that's fine). I finished a bunch of crochet and knitting projects.
I've even had nearly 2 weeks completely to myself because my parents are out of town. I basically became a hermit during that time. But the gig I thought I'd be working right now ended up falling through. I was happy at first to have nothing to do because April-July felt like it was full speed ahead with maybe 2 weeks of quiet in the middle. So having free time and not working for the last 6 or so weeks felt great.
But now that it's September, I feel so anxious. I have no gigs set up until October at the earliest unless something changes, so I have no income at the moment. My apartment is a mess and I'm overwhelmed since I need to tidy up at least a bit before my parents get back. My dishes are piling up because I get overwhelmed looking at them so I put it off, then I add more, then I get overwhelmed, then I put it off, rinse and repeat for over a week. I was supposed to go through a pile of old mail and I can't even look at it. I have plans the next two days so I NEED to clean up everything today, tomorrow night, or Monday. Or I could be a recluse and not do the plans tomorrow. I am honestly somewhat leaning that way. Though I know if I cancel to give myself more time to clean, I'll probably just sit in my apartment too anxious to even start and then feel even worse, and guilty for cancelling.
I LOVE autumn. I am really happy it's September. But September arriving reminds me that with summer ending, the free time doesn't feel as good. September has always been chaos month in my life because of school then college then my old job. Last year September was chaos because grandma was sick and I was going to Hawaii for my cousin's wedding and then I caught covid. This September is almost too calm. It's like it's empty.
I'm sure in a week or so when it starts getting cooler, I'll be glad again that I have this free time and probably take a billion long walks around and enjoy the fall air. But right now I am literally on the verge of an anxiety attack over dishes, recycling, and mail. Yay.

A couple details about the dragon God's Message
Like everything I'm tired I'm very sure I'm very sure everyone's going to be sick in their head like it's more nonsense.
But I want to assure you that the dragon deity which is a spirit form cuz it's not a very strong Spirit right now so that's why I may get me wondering how long it will be before it actually makes an attack.
It may be the year 2026 and that God has still has not attacked.
The dragon God may only use a year 2023 as the initiative to go ahead and launch the attack.
Because that number that year is so effing important 2023.
If the gray aliens I'm going to drive you crazy back cuz it doesn't matter once I'm once all hybrid's, Are Gone !
☠️
We're gone there's no bringing us back and then that's when the Real wave of Darkness will Crash into the Earth
Now the Dragon God, Does not want to do the attack from multiple reasons but he has his Divine Duty and he has to do it to the absolute fullest.
He does not want to destroy the body of Gaia, this will also hurt her spirit massively.
He does not want to waste everything that is on the Earth.
Even if we're all dead the faith the insect toys he still doesn't want to waste our home but on top of the fact that the reptilians are truly messed up the part of the universe with a statistics stupid smile because they don't understand holy and Unholy even though dark is Holy is a time and a place for everything and when it comes to stepping outside your bounds you have to get permission from your deity if you can do something or not and if you do something without their permission it falls back on them. - all these throughout the entire universe take full responsibility over what they arbiter over all deities absolutely all deities they have a job they have a career they have a responsibility that lasts them for all of eternity it is all backed up by God and His creation and his hierarchy of the Universe. - and the dragon God is no exception plus no deity gets to become something they don't love they have to truly love something before they can get the job but it's not really focused on as a job but the spiritual passion but it's also a career it's what they love and what they are at the same time.
So I just thought I'd let you know a few things about the dragon deity you probably wondering how I got this information is telepathic which means any 1 can make Shit up 😡 And . . . Any fool can make a Rule and Any Fool to follow it but I swear this stuff the dragon God extremely rarely contact me.
And his message is extremely simple for me he didn't give me a big package of information I had the few experiences a long long time ago with him that he didn't mean to reveal himself to me at all it was a completely accidental he was more focused on the ships flying away from Draco towards the planet that was on my planet when used to be Fairyland even though it was the dilapidated, the whole planet was in Ruined because of alien race, Attacked.
The Reptilian just made it worse by conquering it the planet was in a very sore state and the reptilians just completely took absolute advantage over Earth a long long time ago before the great aliens were even able to create their hybrids also known as the first model of the humans and the first model was not Homo sapiens it was an earlier version of the Neanderthals.
The dragon God watched as many ships fled from Draco constellation to find other planets to live their life on and the dragon God was disgusted ashamed worried sad angry all the most horrible emotions flowing through cuz he can see all the bad that was going to happen.
But the dragon God far back then was severely too weak to do anything his energy was extremely low he was extremely tired and weekend and broken down he wasn't able to leave Draco if he left Draco he would have killed everybody and Draco because they are feeding off his life force, as deities do.
Think of a deity in a way when it comes to spiritual life force and Essence and energy think of them in a way it's kind of like a star if the star were to leave the plan to go somewhere else everybody in the Earth dies but that's a physical thing if the spiritual life force leave somebody the body starts to self-destruct it's a different kind of energy the body is falling apart because it needs that life force so does the soul so the entire thing that makes up the creature the Mind Body and Soul completely gets destroyed.
It's like a fish out of water and all the water in the universe suddenly went away.
But even that's putting in a horrible way because that's a physical thing again.
The dragon God couldn't leave Draco it has to stay rooted in the constellation if it leaves Draco it's going to kill every reptilian there and it takes an extremely long time for alien races to become so advanced that's why deities when they come into an area they just stay one place forever because they can't really move around they really can't they're very much grounded.
Also they're happy there they also don't want to leave cuz they want to be with their creatures they are deities they are in alien race from a different dimension but they still have their career and they still love their morals and however they love their creatures however that goes about it's extremely different that's putting a mile understatement for deity it's all very different and I don't want to get into it.
This is about a simple message to Dragon God has that's all this is.
The dragon God is watching the Earth he's watching and he's waiting to see how things play out and if there is no war in 2023 with the spaceships in the sky if I don't care how ridiculous it sounds I don't care if it sound like the most hilariously retarded mentally ill meth addict psychotics ridiculous thing you've ever heard in your entire life
If there is no war in 2023, With the 🛸🛸🛸
That'll be it for the planet even the gray alien said they're going to blow up the planet but then again if they were to fail I think that's where the dragon God's going to come in because this planet is an extremely Unholy thing everything in the universe to some degree or an extent is connected and when one plant becomes super let's just say out of sync
When one plan becomes extremely out of sync and becomes extremely rotten it starts to draw attention.
The universe has the spiritually flow now I'm not saying the universe is the place of positivity in Goodwill but there is a nature to things also I think Gaia is too weak to fight off the reptilians as well.
So on top of it all there's a bunch of sleazy guys are sleazy life forms on this planet who took full advantage of tired weaken down to deities and an alien race that got their ass kicked by another alien race because they accidentally trespassed and talked a lot of smack to these other alien race a couple other people not the vast majority and that NRA came back and blew everybody up and kill everybody on the earth and a massive flash War then no one the Earth was going to happen at all and then long story short the right conquered the Earth for the great had a chance even find a way to rebuild their people back and that war has been happening ever since.
! ! ! BUT ! ! !
Not all the reptilians are Evil, quite a few of them are actually kind of good and they actually want to do good in the world.
So do not do not have the word reptilian synonyms with the word evil reptile doesn't mean evil reptile means reptile that's all that means crocodiles are reptile turtles are reptile lizards a reptile Komodo dragons eruptile snake is definitely a reptile.
These are Reptiles.
Do not look at the word reptilian as a word meaning demonic life form because reptilians aren't Evil by Nature like many some of the universe may be there may be some some race in the universe there are pure evil if it's not always going to be a mixed bag.
But there's a lot of assholes in the reptilian race but then again in nature you have to be tough to survive the universe the giant law of the jungle thing so a one side they have their right to be so hyper aggressive meaning cold on the other right there's a spiritual responsibility to everyone has to kind of like not mess up the planet this is why space travel is so hard.
you're not supposed to do it.
Anyway, I made a giant post it probably nobody's ever going to read especially not down to this point.

ok but I read games and I am ADDICTED and I just thought I could maybe request something like-
Eren meeting the reader through a simple comment and a timeskip to them being v close until they eventually end up in a fight because reader was ranting to eren about how perfect their crush (who is actually eren) is and him just exploding and them getting into a fight until the reader eventually goes "that person is you, dumbass!" Or smth like that and from there it all just turns into a lot of kisses and smut👀
only if you're comfy/in the mood of writing smth like this tho! just had this random thought last night and thought I'd request a little erenxfembodiedreader
Anyway have a nice day, night, afternoon, morning, you're amazing :D
Oh my gosh, this is my first request ever and I am so incredibly excited to write this and I really hope I did good in writing something you would want. Thank you so much for submitting this request, please feel free to send more! I love writing fanfics of any aot character and will do my absolute best to embody them in these. Sorry for the long wait, when I say the last chapter had me all the way FUCK3D up. EreMika is canon and I haven't been able to stop saying "He loved her, oh my god he loved her" in that "and they were roommates" vine way because that's my coping mechanism and it's cheaper than therapy. Anyway, I give you-
"Assumptions."
Pairing: Eren Yeager x Fem!reader
TW: nsfw, smut, angst, jealously, swearing, yelling, a bit of fluff, unprotected intercourse, breeding kink, a bit of voyeurism, a bit of sexism, eren being denser than a rock, Levi having health issues because he's old
Other: aot world if the mess of season four never happened and eren didn't fall to sad bitch hours, reader is a regular girl with family issues, all characters are over 18, Erwin never died and Floch never went insane
It wasn't that Eren hated going into town, but he wasn't exactly used to going to town alone. He always had Mikasa and Armin flanking either side of him but since the discovery of the world outside the walls and the decreased threat of titans, scouts were needed more than ever in the recovery of the lost districts. Mikasa was the second strongest soldier alive and Armin was expected to take after Erwin. Eren was useful when it came to being the one who possessed the attack and founder titan, but lately there was no big threats that required his titan abilities.
That didn't stop Hange from poking him, nor did it stop Captain Levi from keeping him busy with even the most minimalist of tasks. Today was no different and when the options were given to him and Jean, who was still asleep in his bunker, on shoveling horse shit or going into town to stock up on supplies and check to ensure all market suppliers weren't being capitalist pigs to the local vendors, Eren all but hauled ass through the door, hand swiping the grocery list off the table and yelling, "Good luck Jean-boy!"
Everything seemed to be going just fine, none of the local vendors had any troubles and most seemed happier with the drastic improvements of the living situations for Eldians. The fear of being eaten any day now or losing a loved one to war had seemed to be the driving force that had led to problems before. Some people recognized Eren, but no one seemed to want to approach him. He had had encounters with people who thought of him as a god, but he usually ignored them or kept a level-headed composure. Despite knowing that he had a power no one else had, outside of being a titan-shifter, Eren didn't really know what he had to offer. Armin was smart, Mikasa was strong, and he couldn't exactly claim titan-shifter seeing that Armin was also the colossal and Ymir had been the jaw.
He let out a sigh, kicking a rock in his path and silently yearning for something beyond his knowledge. Despite knowing that he was never really alone, he felt lonely a lot of the time. He had never given much thought to settling down, with the clock running out on him he often thought what was even the point? He wasn't sure if he wanted to keep being a soldier or if he wanted to go back home one day, he didn't really try to dwell on the future, content with being in the present and having Mikasa always on the verge of tears when she was reminded that he would one day die, didn't really give him room to think of much else.
You weren't oblivious to the tales and rumors that went around the town about the scouts and their secret weapon in the form of a shapeshifting man and how him and his comrades were able to plug the hole in the wall of a district your family had come from long ago. Your father had long since escaped the walls of Maria before it fell, he made an honest living being a construction man, and your mother was a nurse who happened to catch his eye when he had a roofing accident. They built a life for themselves within Wall Rose. You weren't the richest family, nor did you have a name that was well known. Nonetheless, you were all hard working. Your brothers worked for the respect they got, one being a weapon maker and the other being a bar keeper was enough for the part of town you were in. Even their wives did well for themselves in being a seamstress and bar waitress. As the youngest, you were loved and cared for. You weren't the most beautiful girl in town, but you turned heads nonetheless, well until one of your brothers decided to glare or promptly hit whoever doted on you too long for their liking.
The people who knew you, thought you were trouble. Mostly the elders spewed of you and your ways of thinking being a disgrace to everything Eldians stood for and bringing only shame to your gender, you were a woman ahead of her time and they couldn't stand it. Like your mother you had entered the medical field, but even when you were small you claimed you would be a doctor one day. You shadowed and worked under the supervision of the town's doctors. Many amused at your antics, some who didn't care about you being a girl and just grateful to leave such responsibility on someone who was genuine in the intent, and others not caring one way or another and not willing to hear your screeching pleads to observe what they did. Your mom had spoken with you more than once about settling with being a doctor's aide, today being no different and you let out a sigh as you looked to your mother's pained expression.
"I just don't understand why you insist on making your life so difficult? It was bad enough when you proudly exclaimed your goals in front of the entire church, but now this?"
You could only look away, looking towards the fields where you saw your third brother grooming the horses. You hadn't said anything bad, you were approached with a job offer that would give you the title and respect you had been desperately craving, and it would bring greater honor to your family...or so you thought before your mother reacted the opposite in which you hoped.
"I will not have any daughter of mine chasing dreams and fantasies off in some other place where no one can protect you. This is a suicide mission and I for one will not stand by and watch you march forward to your downfall."
Your father stood behind your mother, not really saying anything and not even looking at you. You felt especially bad for the commander and captain who stood on either side of you and were bearing witness to the absurd exchange between your family.
"Mrs. Y/L/N, you have to know that if Y/N were to accept this offer, she would never be in the front lines. We have bases located all throughout the walls and she would do what she did best and be our primary doctor." Commander Erwin spoke with such calm words, his demeanor kind and patient.
"So you expect me to let her run off with a bunch of men whose brains are broken from the wars they fought and not worry? She is not even married!"
You grit your teeth so hard upon hearing that, you were sick of the standards put forth on you since your birth. You were sick of the expectations you were in no hurry to reach and you were especially tired of the lack of faith your family had in you to be independent and strong. Your fists clenched and you felt a steady gaze on you.
"I'm not an expert or anything on parenting, nor will I act as if I am, but instead of yelling at her, why don't you try asking your daughter what she wants to do?" You didn't silence the gasp you released, looking at Captain Levi in confusion and admiration.
All eyes turned to you, your mother crossing her arms as if asking you to try and defy her. Erwin looked a bit expectedly and Levi looking indifferent to the entire conversation. It was your father who beat you to it before you could even open your mouth to answer.
"You have a choice, my daughter. If you choose to stay, you'll make your mother and brothers happy. You can continue to help people but you will never be acknowledged as a doctor...but you'll have your family. Or you can choose to leave and live your life to your own accord, but you will lose the respect of the town and your mother will never speak to you again. Are you willing to put yourself above your family?" You expected this from your father, always neutral and never judgmental, what he was saying was true after all. Were you willing to lose your family over your dreams? Would you be able to survive on your own with only the scouts to rely on?
Your head was hurting and your frustration only grew when your brothers decided to come home and after your mother wailing at them about your plans to leave, they were quick to overwhelm you with their own opinions. The commander and captain apologized but they had to leave and return to headquarters.
"Take your time on making your decision. We will come back in a few days for your answer." Commander Erwin told you, giving you a smile as he continued, "I know its a lot to ask you to choose us over your flesh and blood, but if you do. You have my promise that we will protect you, and we may never be able to fully replace your family in your heart, but the scouts will be a family on its own for you."
"Tch," Captain Levi shook his head, "Look brat, you will see and do things that you won't always like. People will die no matter how hard you try to save them, but call Erwin and Hange delusional--they see something in you. Don't walk into this half-assed, if you choose to be our doctor and you choose to take on the title and everything it carries with it, you have to dedicate your heart."
You only nodded. Two days had passed as you walked through the market, the small basket in your hands carried apples and some citrus fruits. Your mother still wasn't talking to you and your brothers seemingly assumed you wouldn't be leaving, only your father knew how frantic your mind was, and one morning he admitted that he would be delighted to have at least one of his children carry the family name on a military standing. So you had his support.
You even spoke to the animal doctor you had been shadowing for the past few weeks, his eyebrows had rose in an impressed matter and he promptly asked when you would be leaving.
"I haven't made a decision, yet." You said.
"You would be an idiot not to take it." Was all he replied before asking you to give the cattle their medicine.
Idiot, huh? You wondered. You knew deep down he was right. Your mind continued to play in endless loops of thought before you heard a commotion to your right. Turning your head you saw a group of men, their huddling seemed a bit more frantic and it was not until one of them yelled that you noticed one man in particular on his knees.
"Help! Someone call a doctor!"
The man on the floor was bleeding rather profusely and you didn't have time to question what happened before you quickly made way.
"Sir, let me see."
"Hey! Woman don't touch him!"
"Make yourself useful and go get a doctor! What the hell do you think you're doing!"
"I am a doctor." You calmly said, inspecting the gash on his side and seeing the edge of what appeared to be a broken pipe sticking out from the building behind them. The drips if bloods glistening in the sun only confirmed what you thought.
"We were-" The injured man rasped out, "Just horsing around."
"It's okay." You reassured, grabbing a roll of gauze and stack of medical napkins you always kept in your basket. You apologized before applying pressure to the wound, and you heard the patter of rushing feet.
"A doctor is on his way! A real one!" One of the men sneered, and you did your best not to roll your eyes and focus on stopping the bleeding. You asked the man to lie on his back and he surprisingly complied, he didn't seem to care about you being a girl and only seemed thankful to not be alone and scared.
"Do you hear that? Move before you kill him!" The first man hollered, the hand on your shoulder causing you to sharply inhale.
"Excuse me for one moment." You told the man, and you were quick as you hand shot up to grip the disrespectful ass by his wrist and twist it in one fluid motion, you wasted no time in using the building wall as leverage, quickly running up and using his weight to stabilize yourself before you roundhouse kicked him so hard it sent both of you flying back. You landed on one foot, balancing yourself before going back to the patient.
You couldn't deny how satisfying it was to hear the impact, or the groan of pain coming from him. Your eyes met the others.
"If any of you touch me, I'll do exactly what I did to your buddy there, but ten times worse. Now shut the hell up and let me save this man."
Eyes widely stared at you as you resumed caring for the injured, a few minutes passed by the time the doctor got there.
"Oh!" His eyebrows rose, "Hello Y/N, didn't expect to see you here. If I would have known, I wouldn't have left the hospital on its own."
"Hi Dr. Goodwin," You looked up, two fingers on the injured man's wrist and the other held up four fingers from your counting. You blushed slightly from his confidence in you and you noticed the men who bullied you all sport faces of confusion.
"His pulse is stable. I wrapped the wound tightly, but he needs stitches."
"Thank you, miss." The injured man grabbed your hand and you smiled in return.
"Don't mention it."
"Actually, it's Dr. Y/L/N." Dr. Goodwin said, seeing your eyes widen and the smile he gave only made your heart swell that much more.
The doctor nodded, thanking you before asking his helpers to load him to the small gurney they brought. He could only thank you briefly before you waved them off. The other guys had stayed back, eyes wide in disbelief that the doctor not only recognized you, but acknowledged your work.
"Are you a nurse or something?"
"Are you morons deaf? Did you not hear Dr. Goodwin? I'm a doctor too."
The leader seemed to recover from the kick you gave him earlier as his lip curled in an ugly matter, "What kind of sick joke is that? No such thing as a woman doctor."
"Obviously there is if I'm standing right in front of you. Or did my kick knock a few more scews loose?"
Eren was walking buy, noticing the commotion from afar and as a soldier, his instincts to provide help in dire situations kicked in. He elbowed his way to the front. Seeing you standing defiantly in front of five tall muscular men. He stepped forward as the main leader got in your face, but when you shifted your foot, he seemed to coil back. Eren noticed a giant welt on one side of his face and wondered how the hell he got such an ugly bruise. It didn't stop their onslaught.
"Who the hell do you think you are? What makes you think you could do whatever the fuck you want?"
"Because in this world, I'm free to do whatever the fuck I please." Eren watched as your eyes narrowed in further defiance, the smile on your face sickeningly sweet and all he could think about was how he had never seen such a woman.
You hadn't even noticed the audience that gathered, you side stepped the group of men, going as far as waving a goodbye with a breathy giggle, you picked up your basket. You had a small hop to your step and despite not caring to even spare a glance to the onlookers, your eyes met a pair of pretty green ones. The prominent bone structure made you think, "Wow."
However, the tall muscular body you did a once over on had you follow that thought with, "Oh damn."
Eren seemed dumbfounded, your obviousness in checking him out made him flush. He had never felt self-conscious over his body. He knew even before he hit puberty that he would do well to grow muscles and abs, the necessary type of figure to have if one were to be a soldier of the scouts. He knew it was also something some females found attractive in the opposite sex but it's not like he ever had time to date much less dwell on what girls liked. Seeing the way you looked at him though, he couldn't deny that he silently hoped for your approval.
When you finally met his eyes once more, you had him floored when he saw you drop a wink at him.
The crowd murmuring as they watched you go made his own eyebrows furrow in confusion. He stepped to one of the members and demanded an explanation.
"Honestly, the little lady was crazy! She came in here claiming to be a doctor and helped patch up a guy who got cut by the pipe over there. Instead of waiting for a real doctor, she made a whole fuss."
"Where's the guy?"
"Dr. Goodwin picked him up. That doctor is mad too, he also said she was a doctor, but that's ridiculous. No woman can be a doctor. That's so many levels of wrong."
Eren felt the urge to punch the man in the mouth, but one glance at the ugly bruise his friend sported reminded him,
"What happened to your face?"
The leader grumbled a bunch of profanities, "That little bitch. I tried to get her off before she messed the guy up anymore and she kicked me."
"In your face?" Eren sounded impressed, and he was when he received a nod of confirmation.
He looked to the direction which you disappeared in and said fine words to the group, "Whether you men like it or not. The world is changing, everyone is free to be who they want. If women can join the military no problem, they can be doctors too."
He saluted before rushing off, not hearing the mutters of annoyance from the men. In all honestly, Eren had no clue on what he was doing.
You were scrubbing off the blood from under your fingernails near a fountain when you hear the shuffle of feet from behind you. You silently hoped it wasn't any of those morons asking for more trouble, but you were pleasantly surprised when your eyes met a pair of green ones from before.
"I'm Eren." You smiled at him, nodding and your smile turned quirked when he stuttered in, "Yeager. Eren Yeager."
Hmm, you had thought, His name suits him. You studied his demeanor, not missing the gear strapped to either sides of his hips or the green hood covering his shoulders. You knew immediately that he was a scout and you wondered if he knew Captain Levi. Before you got the courage to ask him, he beat you to it.
"What did you mean by what you said earlier? Do you really think that? That we're all free to do anything we want here?"
You smiled as you nodded, walking towards a vendors stand and Eren fell into step beside you, you felt nervous around him, but also safe with his company. He watched you as you picked up another apple to inspect.
"We have laws and rules though...so we're not technically all the way free?"
"I'm free to be me, just as you are free to be you...Eren...Yeager."
It was the way the sun hit your face in that moment, highlighting your strong cheekbones and giving a special glint in your eyes that made Eren want to hear your thoughts more. He spent the rest of the day asking you questions, never satisfied with the small responses you gave him and he even walked you home. The mean glare from your mother confused him beyond belief and it was your father's words that made you gasp in surprise that night.
"He's the titan shifter, the one who helped plug up wall Rose."
Your face had turned red in embarrassment, you were talking so casually to a literal titan and you even flirted with him. He even held your basket the entire trip to your house and you didn't even consider how informal you acted with your skirt. You had hitched one of them up your thigh to get better footing and hadn't missed the way Eren blushed at seeing so much skin. You knew the girls in the scouts wore pants, but even then they kept covered.
You were certain Eren wanted nothing else to do with a girl who held little to no morals, but you were caught by pleasant surprise when you saw him with Erwin and Levi the next day in town.
His eyes had immediately found yours and you didn't miss the blush on his cheeks as he gave you a small wave. You couldn't but laugh when Captain Levi suddenly kicked him.
"Who's got you turning red brat?"
"Uh-it's nothing, captain."
He didn't look convinced as you gathered the courage to approach. Erwin acknowledged your presence which Eren was grateful for, but his eyebrows still came down in confusion on how the commander knew your name.
"Y/N!" Erwin gave a polite smile which you returned, "So great to see you. We were actually just about to stop by your house."
"Really? What a coincidence, I was hoping to stop by headquarters today as well." Your smile was bright, and by the way the air around you seemed cheerful, Erwin returned your energy.
"Bearing good news I hope?" He still hesitantly asked.
You nodded as you laughed, "I would love to accept the offer if it still stands."
"Of course it does," Captain Levi scoffed, his arms were folded across his chest. You noted for the first time the soft grey color of his eyes and despite the deep scowl he was currently showing, he had chubby cheeks that made you want to squish, "We wouldn't be coming all this way for nothing."
"I thought we were coming to collect a new scout, Captain Levi." Eren asked, you felt yourself blush in realization that he had no clue it was actually you they were referring to.
"We are," Levi grabbed you by your arm and yanked you towards him as he pointed at you while looking at Eren like he was an idiot, "Meet the scout's new doctor. Dr. Y/L/N meet Eren-"
"Yeager." You finished, smiling towards Eren, "We've met."
Erwin and Levi exchanged looks as they watched you and Eren smiled at each other like a pair of idiots, the realization dawning over them and Erwin couldn't fight the smirk that crossed his face. Small world, he thought.
Six months had passed since the first fateful encounter you had with Eren. You had long since moved out of your home and besides the occasional secret letter from your father, you hadn't heard nor seen the rest of your family since your decision to become a doctor for the scouts.
It was a transition to go through as you lost one family and gained a new one, but everyone was so accepting and welcoming. The girls welcomed you with open arms, most notably was Sasha whose habit of eating everything and anything brought her to the infirmary on more than one occasion, Connie usually followed right behind her with a minor injury resulting from his carelessness. You had met Floch when he brought Jean in from a sparring session gone wrong and he immediately took a liking to you. Your level-headedness was like a breath of fresh air to him as he was constantly sorrounded by people he thought were idiots. Jean liked your confidence (The fact that you were easy on the eyes, didn't hurt either), Mikasa respected the way you didn't hesitate to put people in their place, and Armin admired that despite your obvious toughness, you were a kind and patient doctor who never turned anyone away. You were diligent and hard-working, yet your smile was always able to uplift any sour mood and you always put your best foot forward. The one time he had puked all over your hospital floor from eating too much undercooked meat was embarrassing for him, he thought for sure you were going to be angry and call him an idiot. Instead, you took his temperature, put a cold cloth on his head (despite his titan status guaranteeing a speedy recovery), and started a healthier diet plan for him. Armin was scheduled a weekly checkup with you, partly to ensure he was listening and partly for you to study him a bit more. Your research on the titan's ability to regenerate and recover from even the worst injuries was fascinating for you, you hoped to isolate the genes and figure out a way to maybe trigger it in regular Eldians without setting off the titan ability, the fact that Eren made it a habit to accompany Armin didn't hurt either.
Eren had grown attached to you, whenever he wasn't busy or in need of a place to hide from Captain Levi's wrath or Hange's insistence to poke and prod him, he would be hanging out around you or in your office. At one point you had to hide him under your desk when Commander Erwin stopped by to hold a meeting with you about providing first aid training to the scouts for excursions. You were always welcomed to accompany them outside the walls, but your work was enough to make you stay. You recalled the way Eren was pressed against your legs, the feel of his hands steadying himself on your calves and when your skirt had shifted up when you reached for one of the records, you felt Eren brush his fingertips along the muscle. You had stammered the rest of the meeting through and smacked him afterwards for putting you in such a compromising position. You were blushing furiously at the way he gave such a boyish grin and even that night while he walked you to your small cottage, he had a satisfied smile in place.
You always knew you liked Eren, you were also hopeful that the feeling was mutual. The both of you had grown close over the course of your stay, as the head doctor you were given your own living quarters, not too far from headquarters but not so close to the city that you would be given a hard time. Your cottage was fair in size and with the amount of income you were receiving, you were quick to furnish and decorate it to your liking. Eren had even helped by adding his own touches to the interior. The times you would go to the city with him was always met with many curious stares. Your age and gender made many turn heads when you walked in, the fact that you were the youngest and by far prettiest doctor the scouts had ever had made people naturally gravitate to you. Your ability to make friends quickly also made it that almost every weekend you were entertaining guests at your house. Sometimes it would be dinner with Sasha, Niccolo, and Connie. Other times you would be knitting and embroidering with Mikasa and Armin, there was even game nights with everyone until Jean and Eren became too competitive with one another. Other times when the higher ups had meetings (All of which you had to attend since you technically held an officer position within the military branch) you would offer your house where you all shared cups of tea and your famous baked goods. You had even seen Captain Levi grab seconds on your sugar cookies.
It was the times when Eren would swing by alone that caused your heart to flutter, he would walk you home almost every night now. At first he would find the poorest excuses to see you like needing a bandaid for his wrist from the biting (even though by the time you gave him the gauze it would be healed over completely) or try to "casually" be around the area when you would get out at three in the morning. Eventually your amusement turned to you asking him to walk you home every night under the guise that you were afraid of being targeted or hurt, even though everyone had seen you body-slam Reiner the one time he tried to hit on you when you were stitching up his eyebrow from an ugly gash. Nonetheless, Eren accepted. You would invite him in for tea every time and he would even bring you lunch on days he failed to see you in the cafeteria. It seemed like everyone under the sun knew about you and Eren's crushes on one another, so it was also a pain in the ass that neither of you had yet to make a move on one another. Even Erwin had assumed you two were together the one morning he stopped by your house on your day off to ask for your aid for a soldier who had broken their arm from a training exercise, his eyes had grown wide upon seeing you open the door in only your nightgown, you were rubbing the sleep from your eyes as you invited him in for breakfast.
Upon walking in, he immediately saw Eren exiting your bathroom in his casual jeans, his hair was wet and sticking up from the steam of the shower. Eren wasn't wearing a shirt and before Erwin could excuse himself completely you quickly explained how you hadn't wanted him to walk outside so late so he slept on your couch. You were washing his clothes and had left them out to dry and Erwin could only nod and stop himself from suggesting for Eren to bring spare clothes to yours, remembering that it wasn't his place to push or even encourage his team's doctor and titan-shifter to date even though by the way he saw you put jelly on Eren's toast while he made your cup of tea with three sugars was enough for him to almost just order the two of you to date. Instead, he gave a long rant to Levi, wondering aloud whether Eren was either oblivious to your affections or just an idiot, Levi only replied with, "Did you happen to bring any of the toast she made?"...he did and Levi later on answered, "He's just an idiot." while licking the excess jelly off his fingers.
It was another day at headquarters, the mid-summer day was hot and since the flow of traffic had been slow inside the infirmary, you found yourself mostly in the officer's lounge. You had opted to wear a long sleeve empire waist dress, the top had ruffles along your collar and the soft pink of the dress complimented your skin tone. It fell around mid-thigh and the black shoes you wore with them completed your overall look. Eren had stared at your bare legs for a while until he noted your haircut. You had only cut off the ends but your heart did a flip as you blushed from him noticing. You had been chatting with Hange about your research while Moblit spoke to Eren about the new set of routes to be taken during their next trip beyond the walls when Captain Levi walked in. Hange waved him over and he fell easily beside you.
"Hey." His arm brushing against yours and you hummed in response, leaning a bit towards him which didn't go unnoticed by Eren.
"Levi, did you take your medicine this morning?" About two weeks ago you had caught the captain asleep at his desk for the fourth time. You knew he overworked himself and refused to sleep in his bed no matter how many therapeutic pillows you got him, but while he was out like a light you decided to check his blood pressure, only to find it alarmingly high. You figured the amount of stress and cups of caffeinated tea were to blame. Levi kept in good shape, but considering his age and the fact that he never even considers laughing, you prescribed him medications to be take every morning and cut him off from his usual tea leaves. The former was easier to push as the calcium and magnesium capsules were easy to swallow, it was getting rid of all the tins in his desk that made him a bit unbearable to the new recruits.
He let out an annoyed grunt as he nodded. Your smile was soft as you put an encouraging hand on his arm and Eren was officially not listening to Moblit anymore.
"Thanks for sticking to your diet, Captain Levi. As a token of my appreciation, I got you these." You didn't let him reply, quick to act as always as you reached into the small basket you had brought and grabbed his hand to put the gray tin of loose leaves that you took out in his palm.
As usual, the captain was unfazed by your lack of appreciation for personal space. The past few weeks had done well to teach him how despite being yelled at, threatened, and even outright ignored at times, your cheeriness was impossible to diminish and you did whatever the heck you wanted even when it was at times impulsive.
"What is it?" He looked between you and the tin, the slight sneer on his upper lip making you release a giggle before you tapped the bow you tied on it.
"It's tea leaves." He raised a slim eyebrow which made you roll your eyes, "Decaffeinated tea."
"Let me guess, it tastes like shit." His eyes flickered to the purple bow, "Or it'll make me shit."
You laughed, you upper body leaning on his as you attempted to catch your breath. The joke wasn't that funny but the face he made was. You giggled as you shook your head and Hange watched in bemusement as you elaborated,
"It's the tea I always serve and judging by the three cups you had last time, I'm positive you'll like it."
Levi let out a nod, he hadn't even noticed that the tea you served had no caffeine but the heavy notes of honey in it probably explained its sweetness. He gave a quiet thank you before his scowl returned,
"So that's why I was on the crapper all night after the last meeting."
"With a potty mouth like that, it's not wonder you don't have a girlfriend." You deadpanned.
"I feel bad for the poor bastard who falls in love with you."
You let out a small tsk, smiling at him and hoping Eren heard as you said, "Well that depends if he admits he feels the same way."
Captain Levi quirked an eyebrow at you, his eyes knowing and you blushed under his stare. Your fingers fiddling behind your back and Eren hated the way Levi suddenly chuckled at you. His smile was a rarity and to have him giving it to you only meant one thing to Eren; the captain liked you.
"So there is someone you like? Who's the poor brat?"
When you were about to make another snide remark, Hange cut in and excused herself and Moblit.
"As fascinating as this is, there's a captured titan waiting my arrival and if I don't get to use this research Dr. Y/L/N just gave me before nightfall, I will lose my mind."
"I hadn't heard of us ever finding it to begin with." Levi sighed, taking a lock of your hair between his fingers and letting the curl bounce back before he excused himself to tag along with them.
"Someone's got to make sure four eyes doesn't get killed."
"That's why Moblit is going with her." You noted.
"And who do you think will make sure Moblit doesn't get killed?" He smiled once more, "Laters doc."
You waved goodbye to the three, the door clicking behind them and you turned to see Eren with his arms crossed. He was pouting like a child and you wondered what his deal was. You figured with your earlier comment, he would be over the moon to hear you hinting at liking him. You skipped up to him, getting on the tips of your toes as you poked his cheek.
"What's the matter? You look like a scolded child."
"Nothing." He muttered, looking away as his jaw clenched and you only poked him once more.
"Liar." You called him out, "Talk to me."
"You didn't answer Captain Levi's question."
You were sure that there was a giant question mark on top of your head, the gear in your mind shifting as you tried to recall what the captain asked before your mouth opened in realization. You couldn't help but smile as you looked down at Eren's shoes and he only seemed to grow angrier as he watched you blush.
"About my crush? Oh! Well I wouldn't call him a brat, but I guess his attitude could often warrant that title. He's got this sort of this determined mentality that I guess some people can find...overbearing." You played with the cuff of your dress, "But I personally find it charming."
"So he's charming?"
You hummed as you smiled, "He's a bit rough around the edges, but he always means well. He's easy on the eyes too. Got really nice hair and pretty colored eyes that makes me swoon around him. Not to mention his body looks like Zeus could be his father." To add emphasis, your body leaned side to side as you laughed.
Eren snorted, his eyes rolling as he thought of any guy he knew that was like you described. All he could think of was Captain Levi and Erwin. He hated to think of Levi as charming, but he was rough all around. Erwin had eyes that Historia had once described as pretty, but to think of you being attracted to someone as old as him made his stomach flip.
"Want to head back to my office?" You suggested, not wanting to leave Eren's side until he figured it out but also not wanting to stick around in case other officers walked in. You got a stiff nod and wanted to giggle when Eren still opened the door for you. As the both of you walked through the large building, you added a hop to your step as you continued,
"He's also such a gentleman. He respects me, he's never intimidated by my sharp wit, always opens doors for me, waits until I'm sitting before he starts eating, and he almost seems proud of me being a doctor. He's just so understanding and sure of himself as a man that I guess the idea of having a girlfriend in my position would never make him feel inferior." You turned to look at Eren sideways and noticed his shoulders hunched, you knew it was cruel how you kept teasing him but were hopeful that it would click for him soon, so you went on.
"Wow, sounds like a real keeper." He grumbled, now thinking of Jean or even Connie. Armin was too occupied with Annie and Reiner was too obsessed with Historia to hang around you. There was no way Beruto/Borrito/Bertoto would catch your eye as you had made it a point to always get his name wrong, but Connie made you laugh and Jean was always extra nice to you.
"I'm telling you, I think he's perfect. He's dependable, strong, and we share so many of the same ideas. I could talk to him for hours and never be bored and when I'm not with him, I feel...sad. I just constantly want to be by his side and if I'm not I want him to be thinking about me because that's exactly what I do."
You both entered your office, you walked up to your desk as you spoke, turning around and leaning against it to look at Eren. He had closed your door a little harder than necessary, the wood shaking against the frame as he crossed his arms and leaned his back on the door. He looked downright irritated and you bit your lip to keep from laughing.
"So why haven't you told him?"
You shrugged, "I think I've been pretty obvious about it, I'm always smiling when he's in the room, I always want to be with him, there's never a day where we don't walk together. I even wore this dress for him today."
You waved down at your figure, Eren's eyes looked over you twice and you jumped up on your desk, your thighs parting as you let the short skirt cover your panties and barely cover the tops of your thighs.
"I'm sure he'll love it." Eren spit out.
"I don't know..." You tilted your head, "Do you?"
Eren pushed himself off the door, going to your bookcase and letting his fingers brush the spines of the books, "It doesn't matter what I think. I'm not Mr. Pretty eyes. Sounds like a simpleton to me."
You let out an actual deep sigh and Eren met you with furrowed brows.
"What?"
"You're so fucking dense, Eren."
"What did I say?" He threw his hands up, "Just because I called him simple? I'm so sorry I don't care to hear you go on and on about this guy. I never thought I'd see you bend over backwards for some guy who opens doors for you. I thought you would have higher standards than that."
You let out a snort, "Keep talking Yeager, and I just might higher them."
"I mean I never thought looks would be so important to you. It's so-"
"So what?" Your tongue had a sharp edge that did not go unnoticed by Eren. He stood only a few feet from your desk, but you saw the awkward shift in his posture.
"Shallow." He spit out.
"Excuse me?" You gave him a look that said if he wouldn't apologize in the next ten seconds, he would surely live to regret it.
"What I mean is...what guy could possibly have this head over heels and you're just now telling me? I thought...I thought we-" He stopped, looking to the side and you relaxed before saying,
"We what, Eren?"
"I thought we had something special." He muttered. He looked to see your mouth opened in a small gasp and he began to turn to exit when you quietly beckoned him over.
"Eren...come here."
"No, I should g-"
"Please." You begged and the look in your eyes brought him to stand in front of you. Your hands reached for his shirt, yanking him forward and you hooked your legs around his calves. Eren gaped at you, not knowing what to do and say as you put one hand on his shoulder and the other cupped his cheek.
"You are such a dumbass." You laughed, "The person I've been going on and on about, that simpleton you bashed, is you. It's always been you, Eren."
It was like watching a light flicker on very very slowly, but once it was on you watched as embarrassment flooded Eren. His smile was sheepish and stupid as he stuttered over his words. His hands rested on your hips and you stroked his face from his temple to jaw as you asked,
"Do you maybe feel the same way?"
You didn't get a verbal answer, the sudden kiss Eren laid on you was an answer enough. His lips were soft and warm as they moved against your own, his tongue enveloped yours and you felt him lean more onto you. The moan that slipped out his mouth when you bit his bottom lip made something tighten in your stomach.
When you two finally broke apart you didn't miss the trail of saliva that connected the two of you and you whimpered for more. The second kiss was heavier, a clash of teeth and tongues as Eren feverishly wrestled to touch you everywhere his hands could reach. You felt him press against your core, the loud gasp you let out made him look at you in concern.
"Sorry, sorry. I'll stop if you want me to."
You shook your head as you met those green eyes that held you captive since day one, "More. I want more."
The smirk was something you had never seen, his eyes became half-lidded as Eren kissed your nose. Then your chin, then your neck. When he reached your collar, his finger hooked onto the top of your dress, pulling the fabric down as he kissed just above your breast.
"She wants more." He said to himself, the soft rasp in his voice made you attempt to close your legs. His hands pushed what little that had covered your legs up and Eren's fingers brushed your core.
The jump you gave made his smirk grow, "I haven't even touched you yet."
He saw the small patch of dampness on your panties, and before you could ask him what he was doing, you let out a sharp gasp when his fingers pushed the fabric to the side and he plunged two fingers into your pussy.
The moan he ripped from you was like music to his ears and as he began to slowly pump his fingers in and out he watched as your face became hot and red. It was uncomfortable as first, you could even say it hurt but that didn't stop you from rocking your hips up to meet his eager hands. You weren't entirely prepared as you felt a bit tense as Eren kissed your neck, the suckling on your flesh making small breathy whimpers leave your mouth. His other hand's fingers hovered over the buttons on the back of your dress and his eyes asked for permission as he glanced up at you.
A small tentative nod was all he received before he took out his hand from between your legs, his tongue skillfully licking the digits cleaned and you didn't think you would find such an act so erotic. You arm hooked around his neck as you brought him down to a kiss, you could taste yourself on his lips as he kissed you back eagerly, his fingers skillfully working the buttons on your dress and you wondered for a brief moment if he had ever done such an act before. You pushed the thoughts away, not wanting to lose focus or confidence while in the middle of being with Eren by letting unnecessary insecure creep into your heart. As if being able to read your mind, Eren said-
"Stop being in your head," A hard kiss against your lips, "Be here with me."
His nose rubbed sweetly against yours, fingers tilting your head up as you gave a hesitant nod. Your eyes wanted to focus anywhere but his eyes and you could felt warmth spread across your cheeks when the sleeves of your dress fell down your arms. The idea of letting Eren see all of you was as exciting as it was nerve-wrecking, the most he ever saw was your legs and back from that one time you walked out of the bath in only a towel. Seeing him shirtless was not new but you still felt your breath catch in your throat as you watched him yank the material off. Your hands explored the newly exposed skin, fingers dipping in every curve of muscle and your hand rested just above the waistband of his jeans. You noticed his breathing grow heavy, Eren's head falling forward on your exposed shoulder where you felt him nip and suck on the soft flesh. You returned the favor by kissing him on the chest, your eyes still casted downwards as you fumbled with the buckle on his belt, you let out a small curse from how hard your hands were shaking and Eren placed a gentle hand on top of yours, his eyes alight with amusement as his lips curved into a soft smile.
"Baby, relax." He murmured, he pushed your hands aside as he took over the task. You let out a deep breath as you heard the sound of his zipper being tugged down and you decided to be bold. You lowered the upper half of your dress, the cotton falling off your arms with ease and you blushed furiously once you remembered that you hardly ever wore bras and today was no different.
Your nipples were taut as you shivered from the cold air in your office and Eren stared at you in wonder his eyes raking your body as you looked to the side and brought your bottom lip in between your teeth.
"Fuck, can I touch you?" Eren blurted, his hands still near his trousers and you giggled when he added a last second, "Please."
Nodding, you figured it was time to stop feeling so shy. You had been dreaming about this moment for months, yet as the man you loved stood before you, eager to be with you, all you could think about was how scared you were that you wouldn't be enough to satisfy him.
One more glance at the way he watched you was enough for you to think, If he really didn't, he wouldn't be looking at me as if I put all the stars in the sky.
You felt the second wind of confidence hit you and you took Eren by surprise as you hooked your fingers on his belt loops and tugged the fabric down. You palmed him through the thin material of his briefs and his hips jerked from the contact before he melted against you. Lowering the elastic, your small hand wrapped itself around his shaft and you took a moment to admire his dick. It was something new and foreign to you, for a moment you wondered if all male penises looked like that but you pushed that thought aside as you found yourself not really wanting to ever know, as long as Eren's would be the only one you saw. You hand moved up and down, your thumb brushing across his tip as you swiped some of the liquid leaking out to use as lube.
You knew he was a few inches above average, the thickness was also enough to make you worry for a moment whether he would be able to fit in you as his fingers struggling to push inside of you were of any indication of how tight your body was. Either way you were determined to satisfy the both of you, the idea of him using you and watching his face come apart as he milked himself dry using only your pussy had your head feeling fuzzy with want. He rested his head on you, causing your body to lean back and you pressed one palm on your desk behind you and the other jerked him off a bit sloppily. His moans filled the space of your office, you secretly prayed to the gods that the scouts could be smart enough for once to not be injured or to be able to at least handle it themselves and your eyes flickered to the door for a moment.
"Eren," You murmured to the shell of his ear, his heavy breaths fanning across the span of your chest and you felt both your bodies getting hot. "The door, we need to lock the door."
His groan was the only response you got as he trailed kisses up your neck and shoulder, and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes, he was such a guy sometimes. You began to lower yourself from the desk before his hand on your leg suddenly halted your movements and he gave you a lazy smile, his half lidded eyes softly rolling as he let out an obnoxious groan of annoyance.
"I'll do it." He didn't even bother to tuck himself back into his briefs, his dick fully erect as he made way to your door. You felt your hand falling to your side and you bit your lip as you thought about what you wanted to do twice before letting your own hand push the fabric of your underwear to the side once more. You rubbed at your clit lazily as you softly moaned, your eyes closing at the sensation and you smiled when you heard the soft, "Shit." coming from a few feet ahead of you. Eren's eyes were transfixed on you, the way your head rolled back as your moans became louder and higher pitched was making him painfully hard and he wanted-no needed to be inside of you before he was sure he would come right then and there.
Your eyes were still closed when you felt him settle between your legs once more, eyes hazy and smile lazy as you felt him tug your panties down your legs. Your ass lifted briefly to help and you giggled when he grunted in annoyance from having to shuffle backwards to slip them off completely. He laughed with you as his hand cupped you by your jaw, lips finding yours in a tender kiss and the hand that had been rubbing at your clit was used to steady yourself by his shoulder. His muscles flexed under your touch and your breaths intermingled as he stared at you with such an intensity that you felt your stomach flip. You looked down to where he rubbed his length along your folds and gulped.
"I-I'm nervous." You admitted, cheeks blushing and Eren kissed your temple.
"It's okay, I'll take care of you. Do you trust me?" You gasped at the intensity in his eyes, Eren Yeager was one who never beat around the bush and you felt tears pool around your eyes as you nodded. Everything leading up to this moment overwhelmed you suddenly, losing your family, gaining your dream job, becoming independent so quickly, and falling in love with a man who turned into what so many feared but who let you place` flower crowns on his head during tea parties. He continued to maintain eye contact with you, your lips parting and eyes partly closing as he began to push past your labia. It all felt too much, but you wouldn't want to be anywhere else in that exact moment Eren pressed his tip into your passageway. There was a bit of resistance and the guttural moan he released made your eyes widen in an audible gasp, he looked ethereal with reddened cheeks, a slacked opened jaw, eyes that looked close to tears, and thin layer of sweat making his dark brown locks stick to his forehead.
He pushed another inch in, trying his best to not act too quickly or too harshly. All he wanted to do was fucking ruin you. Mark you as his by impregnating you and watching as you took every drop of his semen. It seemed you wanted it too as your hips jerked forward and took in another inch.
"Eren, please." You had no idea what you were asking for, he was being slow and gentle and as much as you appreciated his mindfulness, it had been six long months and if you had to go through another night of humping your pillow or rubbing one out with only fantasies of Eren touching you (Sometimes even Levi, depending on how much alcohol you had consumed) you were gong to scream.
Another inch and a deep chuckle was his response. Your eyes were set ablaze as the realization that he was teasing you.
"Please what baby?"
"Give it to me." You whispered, your hand tugging at his hair harshly and the hiss of pain he released was simultaneous when he completely thrusted his entire length into you. Your thighs jerked at the sudden intrusion and the cry you let out was loud enough that if anybody were nearby, the would have assumed someone struck you. Your hand smacked against his chest, your breath ragged as you attempted to give Eren an angry glance but your pussy betrayed you as it clenched hard around him.
You both released a gasp when Eren fully bottomed out inside you. His hips flush against your parted thighs and your foreheads pressed against one another, lips brushing but not kissing yet as you two came to terms of what was being done. You and Eren were one, there was no going back from what was about to transpire and you silently prayed that he wouldn't regret it later.
"Stop being in your head," He murmured against your mouth, eyes looking into yours, "Be here..."
He gave a heavenly thrust and you felt his arms wrap themselves around your waist as he forced you to fall back onto your desk with a small uff and your hands fell onto his shoulders. Your legs locked around his waist and the new angle caused him to be deeper inside you, but he continued to stare at your with that same admiration from that day he had met you.
"With me."
You nodded slowly, kissing Eren for what felt like the first time. A bit shyly and unsure as your mouth moved against his slowly, you savored the taste of tea and something sweet from his tongue and you let one of your hands hold him by his face as the other found solace in his hair.
Eren began to thrust into you, the rhythm a bit off at first as you two tried to find what worked and when he dipped his hips a little and heard the string of filthy words leaving your mouth, he gave a knowing smirk.
"Hmm, right there princess?"
You panted, your tongue lolling out as his began to go faster. One of your hands shot out to the side to brace yourself on something when Eren began to fuck you harder and instead you turned to see you hand knocked your bottle of ink over, the deep blue liquid was spilling everywhere but before you could let your brain process the mess, Eren began to suck on the flesh of your neck that you exposed when you moved your head. You moaned as you closed your eyes at the overwhelming sensations of it all, your hands grabbing at the muscles in his back and you arched your own and pressed your chest into him.
"Oh fuck," Eren moaned out, "This pussy is so good. You're taking me so well, princess."
"Yeah?" You panted out, "Going to cum in me, baby?"
Eren picked himself up on his forearms, too preoccupied with how pretty your tits looks bouncing with each thrust to notice the your hair was sprawled all over and the upper part of his arm was touching something wet, he figured it was the sweat you two were producing with your coupling.
"I'm gonna get you pregnant, make you mine forever."
"I'm yours!" You screamed as his hips slammed particularly harder down onto your own.
"Choke me, make me a mommy, cum in me, just please don't stop fucking me." You cried out, and a new sort of excitement showed in his eyes, his hand cupped just below your jaw and the light pressure he put on you made you moan louder.
The sounds of skin smacking, panting breaths, and heavy moans filled the air. Eren coaxing you to come all over his dick as you begged him to not pull out of you echoed of the walls of your office. You went on like that for a good while and you giggled in realization that your silent wish for everyone to leave the two of you alone for a while had come true.
Unbeknownst to you two, there had almost been three interruptions. The first being Captain Levi who wanted to ask if mixing his blood pressure medicine with wine would be too dangerous, but when he heard you scream he almost barged in before the unmistakable moan that followed made him fully come to a halt. He didn't even think twice about what was transpiring, briefly remembering that Eren was in fact with you this morning before quickly turning around and hauled ass as far from the hallway as he could. He wasn't sure where he was heading before he stumbled into Erwin's office, the commander looking up to see his captain look like he just ran a marathon.
"Levi? You look like you just saw a ghost?" His eyebrows creased, "Are you okay?"
"Yeager isn't as dense as we thought."
Eren stood to his full height, grabbing at your ankles and moving your legs onto his shoulders to they were fully parallel to his body. You let out another giggle at how your ankles were now on either side of his head, but the small kiss he gave your right one made you let out a noise of adoration. He gripped your hips, smiling as he noted the streaks of something blue all over your chest and neck but decided against telling you as your pussy began to pulsate around him. There was no way in hell he was going to stop you from orgasming.
The second time was Sasha and Connie as they wanted to ask if eating candies with the wrapper still on was anything they needed to worry about, but the sounds of your desk scraping across the floor with Eren commending you for being a good girl and taking him so well made the both of them stare at each other with wide eyes. The "Huh?"'s they exchanged were amusing to anyone else and Sasha grabbed Connie by the collar before they hightailed out of there. Connie wanting to see if Eren had really been capable of pulling you and Sasha calling it bullshit and stating that the real reason was that he wanted to see you naked.
His thrusts became wild and sloppy, the slushing sounds you two were making was the hottest sounds you ever heard. You held onto his wrists, your smile wide and beautiful and Eren knew he wasn't going to be able to hold out much longer.
"I'm not gonna last long," He let you know, you nodded as you reached down to rub your clit in circles.
"Fuck, you look so hot." He blurted, his cheeks a deeper red and you gave him another soft smile.
"Thanks, baby. You too." His abs were going to be the death of you and you hoped you would get the chance to suck him off later to lick them one by one in foreplay.
You felt him begin to twitch in you and you knew you were so close, your rubbing speeding up as Eren's thrusts were becoming more sporadic. The way his eyes began to roll upwards had you chanting,
"I'm-I'm cumming!" Your moan was breathy and high as you felt your release overwhelm your senses, you felt euphoria as you moaned so loud that Jean and Floch who didn't believe Connie when he said that Eren had managed to bed you stared at each other with wide eyes and gaped mouths as they stood outside your door. Their cheeks red as they rushed down the hallway as if their asses were on fire, not even halfway down the stairs when they felt their collars yanked at so harshly they almost trampled down, Captain Levi's glare knowing as he began to reprimand them for being nosy pricks.
Eren's cock dove into you hard and you felt him pulsate as he shot long ropes of cum into you, his essence overflowing as he filled you to the brim and painted your insides white.
His moan was unbelievably loud and low, the "I love you." That followed didn't go unnoticed by you and the smile he gave, made you realize how much he meant it.
"I love you." Your answered back, he pushed your thighs to your chest when he lowered himself to kiss you. His cock softening inside you and he slowed his thrusts down and milked himself dry. He tapped his tip on your sensitive clit, making sure he was empty before tucking himself back into his boxers and jeans. The creampie in you was beginning to ooze out and he used his two fingers to push it back in, your hips bucking at the intrusion and you whined about your sensitivity.
You sat up, your hand going to fix your hair, only groaning slightly when you felt the ink on some strands already drying. You huffed before jumping down and fixing your dress. Eren was putting his shirt back on, his back slightly turned to you and your eyes widened in embarrassment at seeing the blue ink in what was obviously your finger prints streaked all over. You looked down and saw that it had well faded from your hands, transferring to your lover who put on his jacket. You shrugged, figuring no one would see it and you could wash your hands later. Your hair would be a bit tricky to explain but you would be home to shower soon anyway, which reminded you-
"Do you want to stay over tonight?" You blurted, scaring Eren as his eyes widened, you bit the inside of your cheek and fumbled with your fingers.
He smiled, walking up to you and kissing you on the lips before replying, "I would love to. I have to do some work today, and pack an overnight bag but I'll be home by dinner." His eyes looked you over, stifling a laugh when he saw the marks of blue ink on your neck, debating on telling you but not being able to deny how cute they looked on you, a gentle reminder of what happened just moments ago and an odd turn on for him to think of it as him marking you as his, the lovebite also on the side making him watch you with love.
You nodded before giving a follow-up question, "Chicken or fish?"
"Fish." He nodded, you grabbed a few papers from your desk drawer and Eren asked if you were all set before taking your hand into his as the two of you began to walk out the office, you mentioned having to speak to Erwin about the cadet recovering from a broken limb and Eren listened patiently, your hands swinging in between the two of you and you both relished at how easy it felt to transition into a life of domestication together. He walked you to Erwin's office, his knuckles knocking on the door before a loud, "One minute!" replied.
You both shared a look of confusion before shrugging and stepping to the side. You fixing his hair and Eren's hand resting on top of your hips when the office door opened. You both turned to see Jean and Floch who sported sullen faces, their arms swinging in front of them as if they were children just denied a cone of ice cream.
"Boys?" You called, your free hand interlocking with Eren who stood in place as you took a step toward the pair. "Everything alright?"
They looked between you and Eren, Jean seeing the ink marks on your neck and seeing Eren's hair haphazard was enough to make him look to the floor, his cheeks reddening and Eren could only smirk. Floch was the opposite, he couldn't take his eyes off you as his face held a permanent grimace and you wondered if he was constipated.
"Baby," Eren called, tugging you back to him and Jean scoffed, Possessive ass is already showing her off. He thought to himself.
"They just got yelled at by Erwin, whatever they did was obviously bad, just leave them be."
You nodded in understanding, giving them a comforting smile and Floch didn't miss the knowing look in Eren's eyes.
"Sorry to hear about that. If you two ever need anything, you know where my office is."
"Yeah, that's the problem." Captain Levi's voice came from the doorway. Jean and Floch mumbled a quick goodbye before scurrying away and you couldn't help but fall into deeper confusion.
The captain and Eren exchanged looks before Eren bent to kiss your cheek.
"I got to go. I'll see you later, princess." You blushed at the nickname and public display, murmuring a soft okay in reply as your boyfriend? walked away from you.
You gave Levi a smile which he didn't return, you didn't miss the small blush on his cheeks and you figured it was from seeing such intimacy from Eren. You were almost positive Levi was still a virgin. Walking into Erwin's office, you all but skipped the man's desk, falling beside him and giving him a bright smile which he returned.
"Hey Erwin, just wanted to update you on the cadet's recovery plan. He should be back in training in a few months if he listens to my instructions, think you can help me?"
"Sure what do you need?"
"Well, I'd need you to sign these release forms first." You shrugged putting the papers in front of him, you looked at his desk and grabbed the pen, "Where's your ink?"
The chuckle the two men gave you made your eyebrows furrow in confusion.
"What?"
"Seems like you're wearing it, Doc." Levi's eyes flickered to your neck.
You let out a gasp and your hands slapped to cover you and the laughs that followed only made you blush furiously.
Dammit, You thought, Eren you idiot.

The five of us rode our bikes down the road to school, El on the back of Mike's bike as usual. She seemed eager to soak in everything around her like she would never see it again. Wind brushed the wig aside and she clung tightly to Mike.
Mike was beginning to slow down, the group of us all growing tired from the ride. Soon enough, however, we were walking through the back doors to the schools. Mike was in the lead as he turns to speak to us as we walked.
"Okay, remember, if anyone sees us, look sad."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
'He is still missing, isn't he?'
My thoughts were interrupted by the crackling of the speaker.
"Attention students, there will be an assembly to honor Will Byers in the gymnasium now. Do not go to fourth period."
I looked to the ceiling at the mention of my best friend and by the time I looked ahead, we had made it outside the AV room. Mike was attempting to open the door but it must be locked.
"It's locked." Mike confirmed.
"What?" Lucas asked.
"Hey, El, is there any way for you to open it?" I ask.
Before she could respond, we all jumped at the voice of Mr. Clarke and froze.
"Boys? Lady." He nodded towards El.
"Hey." Lucas breathed, obviously startled.
"Assembly's about to start."
"We know. We're just, you know..." Mike works a solemn look on his face as he spoke and the others seemed to join in, including me although it wasn't that difficult.
"Upset." Lucas nodded, dropping his nervous smile.
"Yeah, definitely upset," Dustin muttered.
I opened my mouth to speak, but thought better to say nothing at all and even looked down to the ground. Channeling all my emotions from just hours before.
"We need some alone time."
"To... cry." Dustin hesitated.
"Yeah, listen... I get it. I do. I know how hard this is, but let's just be there for Will, huh? And then," Mr. Clarke reached into his pocket and pulled out a key.
He tossed the key to Mike who caught it upon instinct.
"the Heathkit is all yours for the rest of the day. What do you say?"
We all looked to each other, wearing subtle triumphant smirks. It couldn't have been that easy, could it?
Mr. Clarke seemed to finally notice that he had no idea who El was.
"I don't believe we've met. What's your name?"
El seemed shocked and began to say 'Eleven' when Mike panicked and cut in.
"Eleanor! She's my, uh-"
"Cousin!" Lucas jumped in.
"Second cousin," Dustin added.
I started to laugh but caught myself just in time to play it off as a cough. I pretended to clear my throat as I looked to Mr. Clarke who was looking a bit confused.
"She's here for Will's funeral." Mike sighed.
Mr. Clarke seemed content with this answer as he shrugged and turned to her.
"Ah, well, welcome to Hawkins Middle, Eleanor. I wish you were here under better circumstances."
She looked to us and Mike, then turned to Mr. Clarke nodding her head. "Thank you."
A small smile fought its way into my face. She was doing great.
"Uh, where are you from exactly?"
El shook her head, sighing exasperatedly. "Bad place-"
"Sweden!" Dustin cuts in.
"I have a lot of Swedish family."
"She hates it there."
"Cold!"
"Subzero."
Meanwhile, I had fought back another laugh at the whole exchange and I had to play it off as a cough yet again.
"Are you alright, Mr. Henderson?"
My head snapped up, but luckily I was fairly quick on my feet this time.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. I woke up with a fever, haven't been feeling well all morning. But I insisted on coming. For Will." Mr. Clarke seemed satisfied with my answer and dismissed our odd behavior.
"Shall we?"
"Yep!" We all follow Mr. Clarke to the gymnasium in silence.
As we get closer, I can hear the principal speaking from inside.
"At times like these, it is important that we come together as a community. We come-"
Dustin swung open the gymnasium doors far too hard and the loud bang echoed throughout the gym that had drawn the attention of the crowd. I elbow Dustin. I feel him shifting on his feet beside me as panic sets in.
"Abort." He whispers, turning to leave.
Thankfully, Lucas stops him and shoved him forward.
"We come together to heal... we come together to grieve..."
As the principle continues his speech, the five of us wander into the bleachers to find a seat.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
"Will Byers' death is an unimaginable tragedy. Will was an exceptional student and a wonderful friend to all of us. It's impossible to express the hole his loss will leave in our community. I'd like to introduce you to Sandy Sloane. She's a local grief counselor from the church over in Jonesboro."
While the principal carried on, the five of us all looked to each other, all sharing the same thought.
'We need to get to that radio. And soon.'
"I just want those of you who are having trouble dealing with this tragic loss..."
"Look at these fakers." I heard Mike whisper.
"They probably didn't even know his name till today." Lucas scoffed.
My head whipped to the side when I heard hushed chuckling. I wasn't surprised to see Troy and his friend as the source of the laughter. I glared daggers into them and my hands gripped the edge of my seat until I was sure my knuckles would tear.
The boys and El seemed quick to follow my gaze because soon enough, we were all leaning over glaring at them.
"Who is interested in this? This is so stupid." He laughed.
I grit my teeth as my vision filled with red.
"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
"Y/n..." Lucas warned, reaching out for my arm. I wasn't paying attention, but for some reason, I felt his hand leave my arm almost as soon as he grabbed it.
"'Oh, he was such a great student. Oh, he's going to leave a hole in the community.'" Troy mocked, beginning to fake sob.
I began to shake with rage, wanting nothing more than to stand up and scream 'fu-'
"Y/n,"
"What?!" I hissed at Lucas, my head whipping around to face him, my jaw clenched.
I saw fear in his eyes as he glanced between my eye line and my hands. I looked down at my own hands to see the dangerously strong grip on the wood. I yanked my hands off the bench and rubbed my hands together, keeping to myself.
I was shocked to see the faintest imprint of the most vaguely shaped hand on the bench. It was hardly noticeable and I had to do a double take.
'What the hell?'
El was leaning over and she met my gaze. She briefly looked at my hands, seeming to dismiss whatever thoughts she had. Then looked to Troy.
"Mouth breather." She whispered.
I let out a strained chuckle and nodded.
"Yeah. Yeah, mouth breather." I whispered, looking back and Troy.
Eventually, the bell rang, dismissing the assembly. Even though Lucas and Dustin seemed to have let it go, Mike and I were not finished.
"Hey! Hey! Hey Troy." Mike called.
I could tell he could hear us because he barely slowed down but was clearly laughing. I stomped towards him and called him out, loud and clear.
"Hey, jackass!"
He stopped in his tracks and turned around. He seemed like he wanted to be mad, but almost like he was happy he got a rise out of us.
"You think that shit was funny?" My voice never wavered and the boys and El seemed just as shocked as I was feeling at my newfound courage.
"What'd you say, orphan?" He asked, dumbfounded.
He only called me that when he was really pissed at me.
"You heard me! And how many times do I have to tell you, I'm not an orphan if I was adopted, you dumbass! Now what the hell is in that tiny brain of yours that would compel you to laugh at someone dying, huh? I mean, shit, you must really be sick in the head. I feel sorry for you." I spit out my last few words, my voice dripping with malice.
By now I was in his face, finally letting out all the pent-up aggression I've harbored for years. And it felt good.
"Get the hell outta my face, freak!" He yells shoving me back.
I get ready to strike but Dustin grabs my arm before my fist can collide with Troy's face. I struggle to get free but my brother was determined to hold me back, with the help of Lucas of course.
"Control your 'brother', Toothless. Or he just might lose a few teeth of his own." He glares at me and I still attempt to break free.
Mike seems to have found his voice as all of this happened because he was the next to speak.
"H-Hey, he's right! Laughing like that? That's a pretty messed up thing to do."
Troy, glares at us as his minion speaks.
"Didn't you listen to the counselor, freaks? Grief shows itself in funny ways."
"You little shit-" I attempt once more to get a right hook in but Lucas stops me.
Troy laughs at me struggling.
"Besides, what's there to be sad about, anyway? Will's in fairyland now, right? Flying around with all the other little fairies. All happy and gay!"
Lucas loosened his grip on me, silently letting me go as Troy began dancing around, mocking Will.
I swung my fist and I felt it collide with his nose with a satisfying crack. He stumbled back and grasped his nose in surprise, he pulled his hand away to find a few drops of blood on his hands. The crowd that had gathered while all of this unfolded, gasped in surprise. I even earned some scattered cheers among the students.
I seemed to realize the consequences of my actions, but I was prepared to face them. It was worth it. I watched as he stormed towards me, blinded by fury.
"You're dead, freak!" He stomped towards me at a shocking speed and I stumbled back, bracing myself for the inevitable retaliation but it never came.
All I felt was a sudden pair of hands on my right arm, harshly pushing me out of the way. I looked in time to see it was Mike who pushed me out of the way. I gakwed in confusion at what happened next.
Troy had just begun to raise his arm as he was only inches from Mike when he froze.
He completely froze in place.
He seemed just as confused, if not more than anyone. That confusion quickly bubbled into fear as his eyes scanned the room as much as he could without moving his head.
It finally dawned on me and I spared a quick glance at El, who was laser-focused on Troy, head tilted down and the smallest hint of blood dripping from her nose. I smirked and looked back to Troy, a smug smile on my face.
I couldn't hold back the laughter as I saw his pants begin to dampen with urine. A stream of it began pooling at his leg, and it even soaked into his socks and shoes. Other students caught on quickly and one boy in particular, began laughing.
"Dude, Troy peed himself!"
The circle of kids erupted into laughter as Troy stood frozen in a puddle of his own pee. I turned to El, who wore a devilish smirk on her face as she glanced between Mike and me. She quickly wiped her nose and started walking away. The boys and I enjoyed this brief moment of bliss.
"Hey! What is going on here?" The principle shouted.
"Come on!" I whisper, gesturing for the boys who all had the same idea. Before people could start asking questions we grouped together and made our way to the AV room unnoticed.

Okay so I'm just gonna ramble here hope you don't mind, also JJBA spoilers ahead-
So the other day I had shared a head canon with a friend of mine on Discord involving Polnareff from JJBA. It basically goes something along the lines of this:
I'd been rereading JJBA and I was thinking about part three, mainly the fight between Polnareff and Vanilla Ice. One thing that stuck out to me through my second read through was how Polnareff knew that Vanilla Ice was a vampire and how he knew how to kill him. I found it kinda odd how someone who only met Dio once knew this valuable information. After all the knowledge of vampires and their weaknesses are kept under tight secrecy. There's only a few people in the world who know about this kind of thing.
So how did Jean Polnareff, our goofball Frenchman know about something so top secret? Well........I thought about it and came up with this.
What if Polnareff was somehow related to the Zeppeli family?
Think about it. In part two Battle Tendency it was confirmed by Caesar and Lisa Lisa that Caesar had younger siblings who he'd left behind. Perhaps one of those siblings had decided to go and look for their beloved older brother, desperate to know what had happened to him and why he had left. They search and search and finally find out what had happened to their brother.
They find out about the stone mask and the existence of vampires. They learn about the fate of the Zeppeli/Joestar bloodlines and how it always ends in blood shed and sorrow. This sibling heart broken and fearing the worst decides to keep all of this a secret, detaching the Zeppelis from this cursed fate. Later in this siblings life they get married and have children of their own, and then their children get married and so on. It wouldn't be unbelievable for a female member of this bloodline to marry someone from another country. For them to move away from Italy to basically start fresh and try to protect their loved ones from the whole vampire mess. And it works for awhile. Anything involving the vampires and such are nothing more than stories.
It'd make sense if Polnareff was somehow related to this bloodline, and how he'd come across this information. Plus there's other things that help out with this head canon. For example-
Zeppelis are known to be loyal to their families, and when we first meet Polnareff he tells us that he's on a mission to avenge his sister. He's got a huge thing for loyalty and family. He's also brave and loyal to his friends and with all the near death experiences that always happen it would also make sense if he was related to a Zeppeli. Due to him avoiding death so often bad shit happens to him such as losing his friends and all the other things he'd been through. As the years go by and the more he barely avoids fate his life gets more difficult and tragic than it originally was. Almost like the universe in some sick twisted manner is trying to balance things out for the two bloodlines.
I also think this head canon could work given that we the readers know very little of Polnareff's backstory other than he and his sister were close and he's out to find her killer. There's no mention of his parents or any other family members which is strange if you think about it.
Anyways that's all I got so far for this head canon, a little bit of food for thought if you catch my drift. I just thought it would be interesting if this was the case and I thought I would share it with all you lovely peeps. Let me know what you guys think!!

fear, disproven
Last fic of the year! Poetic, given that I had the idea for the AU back when I was writing hithtwtc and I only started writing it this year... anyways
The fact that this one is called disproven implies the existence of one called fear, proven. It's not even been started but... season five guys. Season five.
*Ella's panic attack was based on real life, I apologise for any inaccuracy- I'm not even convinced it was a panic attack*
This has nothing to do with anything but character development. I wanted to show who Ella is as a person- emotional, in the wrong sometimes, but loving and caring. And also, there was no way I'd be able to do this whole AU without this little scenario happening :)
Set somewhere between The Angel Maker (4x02) and Minimal Loss (4x03). The team finally found out about Hotch and Ella knowing each other from the liaison program, and their kiss during that time. They're... barely there but they haven't forgiven them yet.
Trigger Warnings: intrusive thoughts, self blame, misplaced guilt, references to death, crimes against children, child abduction, canon-typical themes and violence with regards to children, depiction of a panic attack, grief, past child abuse, off-stage accidental injury to a baby (it's not bad and it shows that everyone makes mistakes!)
read on ao3!
Nothing was the same after New York.
The relationship between Ella and the team had been broken back down into nothing. She would bring them coffee, they would thank her, and then they wouldn’t speak till they had to.
Hotch had shut down. Although he would never say it- too afraid of the man it would make him- everyone knew he was angry.
Not specifically at Ella. She hadn’t done anything wrong. They’d all heard her fight for Hotch to be allowed to attend the funeral. She hasn’t succeeded.
It had been tacked onto her steadily growing list of failures. She was the only one keeping track. Even Spencer- with his photographic memory- did not have the heart to list his family’s flaws like that.
Things were bad.
And then Haley got sick. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great.
It did, however, make things worse. It made them so, so much worse.
Because Jack’s vaccinations had been delayed as the doctors had worked to find out what was going on with him, it had been decided he would stay with Jessica until Haley had been given the all-clear.
Because it was the holidays, it made sense for him to split his time between the hospital and the BAU.
On one of his days at the BAU, the weather was pleasant and sunny. He was restless and desperate for some fun.
Ella had found it humiliating when Hotch had asked her last, despite knowing she was the only without a meeting that day. Still, her issues with him were nothing to do with Jack.
So she’d taken him. It had been pleasant for her too, watching all the children scream in joy as they went down their slide or laugh as their parents pushed them higher on the swing.
It was a good distraction.
And a gentle reminder that in between the horror and the fear and the loss of innocence, childhood was filled with little pockets of ordinary magic.
Then Jack had gotten bored and she’d suggested they go for a walk instead. Her readily agreed, completely ignoring that she was holding her hand out for him.
She’d laughed at that. He’d grown enough to realise she wasn’t as cool as he’d once believed.
He did stay within her line of sight, usually walking by her side or slightly ahead of her. But only slightly.
Ella’s lace came undone.
“Jackie, stay right where you are okay? I’m just going to tie my lace up, and then we can carry on, but I need to see you okay?” She’d called out.
He’d nodded. She was sure he’d nodded.
So she crouched down, somehow messing it up the first time and then ensuring it was double knotted.
If she’s gone over to him first.
If she’d rested her foot on the bench.
If she’d single knotted it.
If she’d done it right first time.
If was her least favourite word. It was too much like almost. Too close to failing.
Jack wasn’t there when she looked up.
There was a second of disbelief. She focused harder, convinced she was just not seeing him.
He still wasn’t there.
The panic set in. Her ears were ringing and her heart was racing and she knew she needed to calm herself down if she wanted to find him because every second counted- it only took seven seconds for a child to disappear.
But she couldn’t. She couldn’t breathe, she could t focus, she couldn’t calm herself enough to listen five things.
Bizarrely, she thought of drinking some water so she wouldn’t run out of tears. Aaron told Jack to do that. Jack. Named for Jacqueline, the only mother Hotch had ever had.
She couldn’t see him. She kept moving, she was sure she’s moving, but she can’t see him.
He’s gone. He’s gone and it’s her fault and the Hotchners will never (and rightfully so) forgive her.
Her legs buckle and she ends up sitting on the ground.
And then-
“Miss Ella?”
The fact that Jack is there in front of her should be reason enough for her to breathe easily and cry tears of joy.
It’s not.
Her heart is still racing, she still can’t get enough oxygen into her lungs and she’s so terrified that her body can’t keep up with her mind and-
“Mommy tells Daddy to put his head between his knees. Like this!” Jack says, demonstrating.
She forces herself to look up and laughs. A little manically, but she does it. And Jack looks so pleased with himself that she’s able to silently tell herself the five things she can see, the four things she can touch, the three things she can hear.
“That’s perfect Jack,” she says, voice weak.
He gives her a slight smile. “Are you okay Miss Ella?”
She nods. Jack’s not an idiot. Far from it. He’s very observant, just like his mother and father. But there are certain things he doesn’t need to know about.
“Why did you panic?”
She’s a little startled. It must show on her face.
“Mommy said sometimes when Daddy has to sit all funny it’s because he’s panicking. She says it’s because he spends so much time being brave that it all comes out at home when it’s safe.”
And in that moment, Ella wishes on everything she has ever been taught that the horrors of Aaron’s (oh god he’s still Aaron in her head- no) job never touch her. That she always remains so wise and so perfect.
“She’s right.”
It’s a pathetic attempt at deflection, but she’s exhausted. There’s been lots of tears the past few months, but no panic attacks. She’d almost convinced herself it was all in her head.
“So what made you panic?” Jack presses.
She could lie, but that would be unfair. “Well truthfully I was scared you’d been taken away from me. And then I was scared of your dad’s reaction.”
“But I hadn’t been taken away- I’d gone to look at the tree.”
“I know baby. But I couldn’t see you and I just-“
saw the bodies of dead children and pictured your grave and the look on your parents faces-
“Didn’t think rationally.”
“‘M sorry. I should’ve listened instead of running to see if I could find something cool,” Jack whispers.
Ella shakes her head, rubbing his back. “My brain was just being silly!"
He nods, only slightly placated. Just as Ella is about to suggest ice cream and a return to the building since the mood is ruined, he turns to face her again.
“Why would you be scared of my dad? He’s the bestest adult ever, and he’s not scary.”
Ella feels tears prick the back of her eyes. Jack isn’t scared. Jack thinks his dad is the best ever. Aaron is a good father and this is the proof, he just won’t let himself accept it.
“I know baby. But I made a mistake before today as well, and at some point-“ she trails off, realising the only reason she’s speaking to him like this is because he reminds her of Haley.
It’s not appropriate.
“He’ll forgive you,” Jack says, like it’s the easiest thing in the world.
And then, like it’s a big secret, he stands up and walks in front of her. When he beckons her forward, she turns her ear towards him.
“He forgave me when I broke his favourite mug.”
She laughs. She can’t help it.
“That’s because it was an accident and we can’t help those! Now, shall we get some ice cream and head back?”
The look on Jack’s face makes everything better. So for twenty minutes, everything is perfect.
Then they walk back onto the sixth floor and the tension is suffocating.
“You’re back early,” JJ comments.
And Ella knows it isn’t meant to be malicious, but she’s not in the mood. Especially not from JJ.
“Weather wasn’t cooperating,” she says.
It’s a blatant lie and they all know it, if the looks on their faces are anything to go by, but they don’t push. Small mercies.
Jack runs into his dad's office and pulls out some sweets Ella picked for him. He takes them gratefully and offers the first one to his son. Jack refuses.
“Do you have the change?” He asks. It’s force of habit from his coin collecting days.
Jack shakes his head. “Miss Ella paid using her own money.”
Hotch sighs. Ella’s asked for forgiveness in a thousand different ways and he’s, deep down, already accepted it. He just doesn’t know if he’s ready to admit that to himself. Or anyone else.
He looks out at the bullpen. Now his son is accounted for, he watches his other family. Something beyond the usual is bothering Ella. He doesn’t know what.
They get a case a few days later.
Children.
Abducted from parks.
Found in the same place they’d been taken from.
Never with their parents. Likely to punish them for leaving their child with someone else.
Ella and Spencer went to speak to the family. Hotch was many things but he was not cruel. Not intentionally. Jordan Todd’s first case would be as easy as he could make it.
“We should’ve been there,” the mother sobs.
“You did what was right at the time,” Ella says, trying to comfort them despite the pit in her stomach.
“No we didn’t. We should never have trusted them with our baby,” the father snaps.
Ella flinches.
Spencer ends the conversation.
Ella shuts down. Nobody pushes. Not anymore.
“I’m going to the crime scene. Ella, with me,” Aaron announces the other day.
She’s sure she’s misheard, but Aaron is staring at her. His face is neutral. Too neutral. He’s hiding something.
“Dave and Derek are free if you’d rather-“ she starts.
“I know,” he cuts in. “But I want you to come with me.”
Something akin to hope flashes across her face. Then she stands and follows him out. His hand almost goes to her back to calm her a little.
Almost.
It’s uncomfortable for a while. Neither of them had the words to say what they needed. It’s why they always resorted to actions.
“Hotch we’ve driven past the crime scene,” Ella says.
“I know,” he replies. He doesn’t even take his eyes off the road.
Never one to think or act rationally, Ella tries to open her door. It’s locked. Because Aaron knows her too well.
She can’t even be mad. It’s not profiling if it’s obvious.
“Where are we really going?” She asks, sighing.
“Nowhere.”
She doesn’t have a response to that one.
“Jack told me about your trip to the park,” Hotch says after a few minutes. He doesn’t look at her. He can’t.
She stupidly assumes he means the sweets. “I wasn’t trying to overstep with the ice cream. It’s just- I’ve put you through so much, it was the least I could do. I am sorry though, if it seemed like I was trying to parent him myself. I’m not.”
He doesn’t bother denying that she’s put him through a lot. But they’re family. They’re meant to. Lord only knows what he’s put her through the past few days. He felt like an idiot when she’d walked right past him after seeing the family.
“I’m not annoyed about the ice cream. And you can stop trying to gain my forgiveness. You already have it.”
“I do?”
“We’re here, aren’t we?”
She nods. “Wait so what did Jack say? We had a very normal trip-“
No.
“He said you panicked. Why didn’t you ask for the afternoon off? I would’ve given it, you know that.”
Ella shakes her head. She can’t.
Hotch misinterprets. “I would’ve. Gladly. I’m not mad at you for knowing your limits. I envy that you listen to them.”
“I couldn’t ask for time off,” she whispers. “I didn’t deserve it.”
“Eleanor,” he says, gentle and kind and she wants to sob but she can’t because that would be pathetic and why are tears her default with him, why can’t she just repress?
“I couldn’t,” she repeats, harsher this time.
“What happened?” He asks. The car is still moving, but much slower.
Ella won’t jump out of a moving vehicle, no matter how slow. It’s why he carries on driving.
“I only knelt down to tie my lace up,” she sobs.
It’s like a weight lifted off her shoulders. She couldn’t tell Derek or Penelope or Haley, and she hadn’t been ready to tell her therapist.
But now Aaron knew. And he could hate her, but he knew now, what he was really like. Who she really was.
“What?”
“In the park. Jack ran ahead. I needed to do my lace. I told him to stay there, and I swear, I messed it up the first time, but it was only a few seconds. And when I looked up, he was gone-“
The good thing about small towns in the country is that they are very small and very green.
And on Wednesday’s at eleven twenty, very quietly. Aaron stops the car, putting the hazard lights on. He steps out, then hurriedly opens Ella’s door.
It’s been a long time since he’s hidden behind a bureau issued car to cope, but sitting beside Ella reminds him of why he started. Because the public cannot see them break.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispers.
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” he says. He isn’t lying. He couldn’t lie. Not to her. Not to any of the team really, but especially not her.
“I took my eyes off him. I’m a fucking profiler Aaron, I should know to not take my eyes off a three year old in such a public area.”
“We’ve all done it. We will all do it again. Eleanor, nothing happened.”
“It could’ve.”
There is nothing he can say to that. She’s right. He swallows the lump in his throat. Sometimes, when Eleanor looks at him like that- eyes filled with guilt and so clearly in pain- he thinks of Haley. How she never hid her emotions. Until she fell out of love with him. That had been the first sign something was wrong- she shut down.
“I could’ve lost my hearing after that gun went off. I could’ve been the one to die in that explosion. The point is, I didn’t, and I need to accept that sometimes, something not happening is enough to consider it a win. You made a tiny mistake. The fact that you’re feeling so much guilt over it shows you love him.”
Eleanor finally meets his eyes. “I can’t believe you’re forgiving me. You son could’ve-” she won’t finish the sentence. They’re both more than aware of what could have happened.
“I dropped Jack once. He was a few months old, but he’d been sick and he was keeping us up as babies do. I don’t quite know what happened, I think I drifted slightly, and next thing, he was on the floor.”
“Aaron that’s-”
“He fell from the bed to the floor, but I was terrified. I think I cried more than he did. The nurses weren’t angry, and neither was the doctor, but I was. How could I hurt my baby like that? Haley never did.”
“Aaron you’re being ridiculous. You didn’t intend to hurt him. These things happen and he probably doesn’t even remember it happening. He was fine, and he is fine. You can’t blame yourself for- oh.”
It’s silly, but she feels like she’s seventeen and sobbing in front of her teacher because she doesn’t think she’s a good friend since she keeps going to them with her problems. She’d felt like an idiot then, and she feels like one now, but both times, there had been no judgment.
The realisation that Aaron’s not judging her hits like a ton of bricks.
He’s smiling at her. With something like pride in his features.
“Thank you,” she says.
“I shouldn’t have let it get this bad. I was so wrapped up in my own grief- which is stupid and selfish I know- and my own fears about the team that I just neglected you completely. It’s my fault.”
She laughs, not because there’s anything funny, but because they’re both so stupid. Haley always says her and Aaron are both the same and completely different. The fact that they both take issue with the claim says more than anything else.
“Did we not just establish that some things are just part of life? You’re allowed to mourn Kate. You should mourn her. You loved her in the way you love everyone in your life. And the team just need time. Isn’t that what you said to me?”
He grimaces. “Sometimes I hate you.”
It’s teasing, which is nice.
“Don’t worry, I hate you all the time.”
Hotch laughs and Ella grins. She’s missed that sound.
“Do you feel up to going back now?”
Ella hesitates. Is she? She nods. Aaron gives her a proud look, and she decides he needs to know.
“Jack’s never been scared of you,” she blurts out.
Although Aaron doesn’t respond- and she gets it, they are technically working, regardless of what they may know about each other- he does seem to relax slightly.
“Thank you,” he says. “You’re a good friend, Eleanor.”
“I love you,” Ella says. She’s smiling at him. For a moment, he can’t help the pang of sadness. She says the words so easily. All the time. To everyone. And yet they never lose their value. She always means them, because she sees the thousand different types of love that exist.
He still associates those words with manipulation. With loud voices and stinging cheeks. He hates that he can’t redefine them for himself, even with all the help he’s had, yet nobody seems to ever take it personally.
“I know,” he settles for.
She knows what he means. It’s written all over her face.
They drive back in silence as well, but it’s not awkward. It’s comfortable and homely and it feels like friendship once more. They still need to talk- about her fears and his emotional shutdown- but those things won’t go away overnight. They’ll talk once the case is over and they’re both ready.
And until then, they’ll love each other enough to accept the slip-ups and find it in themselves to forgive the other.
“I got you a coffee,” Derek says when Ella walks back into their conference room.
She freezes. “Oh. Thank you.”
He sighs. “Ella, I’m not saying I’m over it. I’m not. You both hid something massive from us for months. Months.”
“I know. And I am sorry.”
“I know that too. And I- I do forgive you. I just need time before we get back to normal. But I don’t, I could never hate you. You know that right?”
Derek is a good, wonderful man, and every time he reminds Ella of just how much he embodies these qualities, she’s stunned. Everyone who knows him is lucky. And those that can call him a friend are even luckier.
“I do.” She smiles, and for the first time since she got back from London, he smiles back.
And it’s enough.
There’s no expectation that she’ll tell him what her and Hotch’s trip was about. She will, once Spencer and Emily leave, the former because he’s done his paperwork and the latter because she’s hidden it in someone else’s pile, but it’s nice. That feeling of unconditional love.
The case ends as most of them do. With something akin to justice that does not feel adequate. With Aaron giving sheriffs and police officers tight and fake smiles whilst the rest of the team pack their boxes away. Neat and tidy. Just like their reports. Nothing like their emotions.
Despite the case, the flight home is nice. Aaron falls asleep, and it becomes a race to see who can send Haley a photo the fastest. Derek wins. But Ella beats everyone at UNO, so things balance out.
When they get to the sixth floor, it’s early. Everyone’s still running on the adrenaline from the high and decides to start their reports. Even if they don’t get finished, the more done before the crash, the better.
Or maybe that’s not right, but they’re in too deep to care. Besides, it’s become an unspoken rule that Penelope will drop Ella home and that Derek will drop Spencer at his apartment, so it’s not like anyone’s going to be falling asleep on the subway.
It’s early, but a fully-recovered Haley is sitting in Ella’s chair, Jack eating a lollipop from the stash she keeps in the drawer. It’s specifically for him- there’s a dinosaur sticker with his name on it.
From the look on Haley’s face, she knows what happened. Ella can’t bring herself to care.
“Mr Derek!” Jack shouts as he sees them approach.
Derek crouches, lifting Jack into his arms and swinging him slightly. Hotch pretends to be offended, but even he’s grinning.
“Hi Jack, what are you doing here?”
“Well Mommy felt better and she wanted to surprise you all and I wanted to see you because I want to be a profiler and a builder because my friend’s mom is a builder and she’s really cool and Daddy you said you did both so you can teach me.” Jack’s eyes are sparkling. He doesn’t even seem out of breath.
“Why yes I can little man,” Derek says, kissing his hair.
“Hi Jack,” Aaron says, sounding like a tired pantomime actor.
Jack giggles. “Hi Daddy. Mr Derek, put me down!”
Derek does, but instead of going to his dad, Jack goes to Ella.
She hugs him, glad that he’s safe.
“Miss Ella, can you take me to the park again?”
Her grip on him loosens. Not enough for him to fall, or to realise, but enough for her to panic and Aaron’s expression to alter slightly.
“Jack, Miss Ella must be exhausted from her work. And where are your manners? What do we say when we’d like something?” Haley chastises.
She definitely knows.
“Are you exhausted? We say please. Please Miss Ella?”
“I’m not exhausted, no,” she says, needing time to make a decision.
“Then can we go? Please?”
Jack’s not afraid of Aaron. And he’s also not afraid of Eleanor. Not now. Not ever. Maybe there’s a reason to believe that sometimes, the fears are just fears and the bad thoughts are just bad thoughts that don’t mean anything.
“Well, so long as your mum and dad go as well,” she settles on.
It’s a step in the right direction. She’s not ready for it to be just them yet, but at least she was going.
Jack lets out a shout of excitement. Everyone laughs. It’s nice, and it’s pleasant.
Haley smiles at her as they’re leaving, and Ella finally relaxes. It’ll be okay.
It’s once they’re there that things get difficult. Aaron seems to be feeling the weight of the case too. He catches her eyes whilst Haley goes down the slide with Jack. They both seem to be having the same thoughts.
There is no way that either of them can ever guarantee that the darkness of their jobs will never touch the rest of their family. But in that moment, it becomes clear to Eleanor that Aaron will die before he lets that happen. And it becomes clear to Aaron that Eleanor has no intention of ever letting him do that.
It’s a chilling moment. Because whilst one set of fears has been disproved, another has been created. And the sound of children screaming- with joy, not pain- does nothing to soothe either of them.
