This is long overdue. 

My apology to you. 

All the things. 

I allowed you. 

To be put through. 

I know you’re breaking. 

Or. 

Already broken. 

Falling apart. 

And. 

No longer open. 

I know you’re hoping. 

That someday I’ll learn. 

To stop letting people light you up. 

To lessen the burn. 

I know you wish. 

You weren’t dismissed. 

By those who claim. 

You’re at the top of their list. 

You deserve to be a priority. 

I need to be.

A better figure of authority. 

Because you deserve respect. 

I’m trying to do better. 

At being your umbrella. 

Keeping you dry. 

When someone brings you stormy weather. 

Stopping the shots.
