“Care to watch the show? You can’t stop it, so you might as well enjoy it.” B grinned, sparks in their eyes and the air.

“Oh be quiet dear, this will all be over soon.”

“You say that we’re doing something different, that we’re making the right changes to protect people, but all I see are more corpses.”

“Are you sure this is the right thing to do?”

“Oh god, oh fuck…” A crumpled to their knees, helplessly watching B’s blood pool on the floor. “What did I do?”

“I… I think we’re the monsters here.”

“Did you actually think you could save them?” B laughed in disbelief.

“People die all the time, why would you be any different?”

A looked at the sky, avoiding B’s gaze. “The night is in everyone. Hope dies like stars, happiness crashes like meteors. The night remains.”

“If you do this, heaven will not know your name.” “They will know it, and they will fear it.”

“You asked for a savior, not a saint.”

Their face was carved from the malice of millions.

“They chose me. I must carry out my duty or thousands more will die.”

“That’s enough A! We’ve tried everything, hell, nearly lost everything too. One of us will die if we keep going...” “And we let them win?” “It’s the only way we get a happy ending.”

“I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time.”

“Why are you doing this? What did I ever do to deserve this?” “Don’t be naïve. You know exactly what you’ve done.”

“You should’ve seen the look on their faces. It was delicious.”

A collapsed, thoughts swirling in a mess of confusion and betrayal. Their arm stung. Their bones ached. Their heart hurt. “What happened to you?” “Nothing happened. You became weak.”

“I don’t want to do this. But it’s the only way out.”

Person A is on their deathbed, and Person B has a twisted confession to make.

Person B should've noticed the leading signs and the little hints, but they didn't want to if they could just ignore them. It came back to bite them later.

Person A expected everything to happen, however, not this. Not the betrayal of trust and love.

"I can't...please. Please don't do this to me. Don't do this to us."

"Let's go back to the way it was, yeah? We could pretend this never happened."

"I trusted you."

"I loved you." "I wanted to ruin you." (a bit sadistic, but okay)

Choose

The room spun in each direction. Hero placed a hand on their head to stop the dizziness. A loud pounding in their ear was the only sound they heard for a while.

They stood up with sore legs, breathless.

Across from them, Villain marched in their direction carrying a long dagger. "Look what you made me do." They shook their head slowly.

They could taste the blood in their mouth soaking against their tongue. Villain was ruthless; they always had been. But never to them, so when they were lured into the trap they set up, their body hardly reacted as their mind tried to process what was happening to them.

They caught their bearings just in time to retaliate but never to ask what changed. Villain struck again, and Hero ran back, still trying to keep their balance on their broken leg. They prepared to block another punch from, Villain and stumbled to the ground, barely missing Villain's kick.

"Fight back!" They called.

On Hero's end, they were injured far worse than Villain, who remained utterly unharmed. Their uniform was intact, and their hair was still perfectly swept.

Hero coughed and rested a hand on their hip, squeezing it slightly while wincing from the pain; it rotated uncomfortably right as they landed.

"Why?" Hero shakingly asked as they clung to the wall behind them.

For whatever reason, Villain's anger was being directed at them in its entirety. They never did anything to upset them this much before, so what happened?

They watched Villain avoid their eyes and position themselves for another attack again.

Hero couldn't move quickly enough this time and resorted to a short exchange of punches on the receiving end. They fell back onto the cold floor. The sharp knife angled closer to their neck as Villain sat their weight above them.

Hero struggled to keep the blade away as their hand pushed Villain's wrist. A warm streak of blood poured from the palm of their hand on the other side of the dagger. Hero held back tears, sucking in a deep breath as the cold metal tore through them.

They stared up at them; Villain was focused on the weapon, their eyes still refusing to look at them.

"Villain…" They spoke in a constrained tone.

"Hurry up and die already."

Hero's lower lip quivered apologetically, "Just so you know, whatever it is, that I did… I'm sorry."

Their hand pressed onto them harder; the blood on their palm forced the blade to slip away from their grip and land on their neck flatly. They heard Villain gasp, and for a split second, their eyes bore that same worried expression. Except this time, it carried a look of immediate grief.

Hero took the opportunity of their hesitation to rip the dagger from them and throw it to the side, a loud metal scrapping echoing down the warehouse.

"Villain!" Hero grasped onto their suit and forced their eyes to make contact, "Look at me, I don't know why you're so angry, and I apologize for that; I should've been aware."

"Let go of me!"

"--But if it's something worth killing me over," Villain clenched their teeth, robbing them the chance to meet eyes. "Then, just so you know, I trust your decision, and I love you."

"Fuck! I can't do it!"

Villain slammed a fist to the ground next to their head.

"Well, what a spectacle." From behind them, the tall figure of Supervillain strode in smiling. Behind them, their henchman sighed with disappointment.

"What's going on?" Hero spoke breathlessly.

"See? I told you they had a weak spot for them." Henchman picked up the dagger lying on the ground with disgust.

"Well, come along then, Villain. Just as you promised." Supervillain turned around and into the darker edges of the building.

"Huh?" Hero slowly raised their head, watching the other two guests walk out. "What did you promise?"

Villain looked to the ground, "It was either your life or mine."
