AUTHORS DOING OTHER STUFF
Like putting together a bee hive. Badly. With the aid of Cheezits.
I’m not the only author who keeps bees by the way. I know @neil-gaiman used to keep them in Wisconsin. And Sherlock Holmes gave it a go, too, so it’s not a bad gig for a historian-turned-mystery-writer, either.
Yes. I might be procrastinating.

This is a gentle reminder to please be kind and considerate to fic writers
The majority of us take way more time than we probably should out of our personal lives to write and post completely for free because being able to connect with other fans is payment enough
While I have been very fortunate to only have positive interactions on here, I feel compelled to say something after seeing what other writers have had to deal with recently
We write out of love, please read with love as well

Hard things about being an author that I haven't quite come grips with yet - an inexhaustible list
1. If people don't like your work, they will be loud about it. That's their business, no matter how loud they get.
2. What are accounting?
3. The sequel will be harder to write than the first, try not to give up.
4. /stares at Canva/ are you my lover now?
5. Sometimes friends will say they are reading your book... and then they never talk to you about it. It's awkward, but you have to move on.
6. People won't get that while you love this, it's actually driving you crazy.
7. You will get bad reviews, a lot of them. Your book isn't for everyone.
8. Bad reviews do not mean you can stop. No matter how much they may hurt your feelings.
9. Bad reviews do not mean you can stop.

I do not want to be on twitter. I left months ago, but kept the profile for fear someone might impersonate me (which happened once before). But with the book launching, my publisher has asked me to be active again posting info. I’ve seen some authors keep it going by having a disclaimer about ‘news’ vs ‘live’ ( @neil-gaiman has this—see below. I’ve posted mine plus the pinned post, too if y’all have thoughts/edits). I am a little stuck by 1) not having more than 10k followers and 2) not having anyone dedicated to my media on my behalf. Every time I go there I feel icky. Any advice, authors of tumblr?

What is the point of this
What is the point of attacking authors for the stuff that they wrote for assholes like you, for free? To read? People who leave comments like this on people’s work need to back the fuck up and get a life.
normally I’d just block and ignore but my friends have been getting comments like this too after simply politely asking for elaboration on other use’s incomprehensible comments. So I’d like to make a statement.
stop treating fic authors terribly for no reason. They’re not your writing machines or slaves for entertainment. They are people with lives and owe you absolutely nothing.
