Summary: Bucky’s enjoying the morning until he’s not.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader from A Turn Of Events

A/N: This is for @angstysebfan and it takes place about three or four years after.
“Bucky!” Bucky was quick to look up and see you standing with a pout on your face and a book in your hand. You were wearing a hoodie of his with leggings that hugged every curve of your legs and he knew he wouldn’t be forgetting the sight in front of him for a while. He grinned.
This was one of his favourite times of the day. Early morning with the sun blaring through the windows to light your bookstore in a way that warmed his heart. He would help plan out your schedule while you went around and stocked the shelves with new books, calling out to him whenever you couldn’t reach high enough. He lived for moments like these.
“Don’t just stare at me,” you whined, your eyes getting watery. “Come help me.” Shit. He was walking around the counter then and making his way to you before the tears could flow down your cheeks. He grabbed the book from your hand gently, dropping a kiss to your head and letting his hand touch your back. A gentle reminder that he never wanted to see you cry.
“‘M sorry, baby,” he mumbled into your hair after he put away another book. You sniffed and wrapped your hands around his middle, leaning your head against the part where flesh met metal.
“Don’t be,” you whispered, yawning. “I’m just a hormonal mess right now, and it doesn’t help that I couldn’t sleep last night.” He hummed at that, tightening his arms around your shoulders before he pulled away to touch your growing stomach with his left hand—something you had had to ask him to do when you had started to feel a bit too hot one night.
“You two givin’ your momma a hard time, huh?” He rubbed lightly, smiling when he felt a small kick. “Kickin’ her? Come on now. That’s my wife. She doesn’t deserve that.” The bell rang overhead the front door, indicating a customer.
“Bucky...” you trailed off, tapping his shoulder and gesturing over his shoulder with your head. He looked over and saw the one person he wasn’t expecting; Sharon. His hand dropped from your stomach and wrapped around your shoulder instead. He tensed and he knew you felt that because you urged him forward.
She gave the two of you a tight-lipped smile. “Hey.” Bucky recorperated her smile and greeting while you just nodded at her. Bucky didn’t dare to say anything. He was too focused on why she was here and why now. Why now that he was happy with his life and, as far as he had heard, she was happily married as well.
“How are you guys?” She asked with little resentment. Her eyes darted down to your stomach and she smiled. “Congrats, by the way.”
“Thank you,” you said, giving her a genuine smile before you squeezed Bucky’s forearm. “I should go set up the schedule. I’ll be in the office.” You gave him a look, a look he knew meant that you had an excuse for him as well, but he didn’t need to use it right now. So he nodded and smiled, giving you a sweet peck on your lips. When the door closed behind you, he looked at Sharon.
“Why are you here?” He sounded harsh, but he wasn’t exactly trying to be nice. He knew Sharon from all those years ago and knew that she never just showed up to say hi. She smirked at him.
“Not here to do anything, I promise,” she said, nodding towards the door you were behind. “Just checking.”
“For what?” A spark of fear shot up his spine at those words. Were you in danger? Hell, he had left the field out of fear of enemies finding out that you and him were married. If that hadn’t worked, you were never going to be safe. Neither the twins when they arrived.
“Don’t worry, Barnes,” Sharon mumbled. “SHIELD's back up and running and they’re keeping tabs on you. Both of you.”
His eyebrows furrowed.
“Trust me at least this much, Barnes. She’s not in danger and neither is your kid.”
“Kids,” he corrected out of instinct. She wasn’t the first one to think that.
“Double congrats then. But, um, seriously, I’m only running errands on behalf of SHIELD. I’m not here to break the two of you up because of what you did that day.” She laughed without humour in it. “It was humiliating, yes. But I know you didn’t love me—I knew it then too. I was just too caught up living in a fantasy that you loved me. More than anyone. More than her. Obviously not.”
“Sharon,” Bucky started, getting nowhere when she raised her hand to stop him.
“I don’t want an apology, Barnes. I really don’t. I don’t want regret because we’re both happy. Happier than ever.” She started walking backwards. “And I’ll let you know if there’s anything coming your way. Keep your nose clean and keep her happy.” She winked and left.
“Bucky!” Bucky smiled to himself. Yeah, he was going to keep you happy.

I took time to think about what I wanted to do as carefully as I could and I did make a temporary decision. I don’t want to leave any story I’ve started unfinished. I really don’t. That would be unfair to you. I will finish them. AFTER I finish them, I will them make my choice about where I stand with this fandom, and to be honest and it’s not looking great.
Thank you again for those who do support me, even if you watch from the sidelines. I see you.
