Weekly Loved List: 04.18.21
Weekly Loved List: 04.18.21
Hi friends! It’s been a rainy, slow, self-care kinda week — I’d be lying if I said that the past seven days were full of productivity and inspiring events. I took it slow and listened to what my body needed, didn’t guilt myself for not being quote on quote productive and enjoyed a lot of blog reading, scrolling the internet, and watching Netflix. Here’s all the links for everything I loved this…

Colour has its boundaries, though we are pushing at them. Imagine a blue geranium. They are imagining a blue rose--which will be a contradiction until the end of time. He bought me a dozen blue roses to declare his love! One cannot bring a message of love in the blues...

LISTEN! It is not April 16th. There is no such thing as April. I wouldn’t write March favourites in the middle of Arpil, you fool. You silly baboon. You dry frog. We all know it’s March 47th. Don’t look it up. It’s true. Here are March favourites:

Questions my 7 year old asked me unprompted this morning:
What’s your favourite tv series?
What’s your favourite of the Harry Potter films?
What’s your favourite of the Game of Thrones books?
What is your favourite film?
What’s your favourite Game of Thrones film? (me: do you mean which is my favourite series or episode? 7 year old: series? Also 7 year old after the answer: Why that one? Is it funny? Exciting? Is it because it’s serious? me: lots of eyebrow raising and erring)
What is your favourite animal?
What is the your favourite of my bears?
What is your favourite music? (me: What do you mean band, song or? 7 year old: song)
What is your favourite tea?
What is your favourite mug?
What is your favourite Matilda song?
The answers I gave (without thinking, with little expectation from the 7 year old, apart from about the bear and mug questions):
Peaky Blinders
Prisoner of Azkaban
A Clash of Kings
The Royal Tenenbaums
Six
Hare
Nics
Notes from the Undergrowth by Gabi Garbutt (although I did think a bit for that one, and then just went with a song I listen to a lot at the moment)
English Breakfast
Crookshanks or Matilda
Revolting Children (7 year old: me too, let’s listen to it)

Picasso's Blue Period (1901-1904) produced his most lugubrious pictures. Living in Paris in dire poverty, he portrayed beggars, cafe habitues, and poor working people sunk in lethargy, melancholy, and despair, using a predominantly blue palette to convey the hunger and cold his subjects felt [...] C. G. Jung, incidentally, interpreted the Blue Period of Picasso's as representing nekyia, a mythic journey into hell. The artist "dies," observes Jung, "and rides on a horse into the Beyond, into the kingdom of the dead. There reigns the blue of the night, of moonlight and of water, the Duat blue of the Egyptian underworld."

Review: Mercurial by Naomi Hughes
Review: Mercurial by Naomi Hughes
5/5 Stars 412 pagesPublished March 16th 2021 A breathtaking story of finding your own way despite abuse, religion, and frankly, just what everyone else is doing, Mercurial is truly unlike anything I’ve read lately. Set in a world where magic metal runs through people’s veins, very unlikely friendships and relationships bloom, and all of this wrapped together makes for an amazing book. Following…

Facebook users are to view non-algorithmic of News Feed
Facebook users are to view non-algorithmic of News Feed
The social media giant, Facebook, follows the example of Twitter and allows users more control over their News Feed. In a blog post late Wednesday, the company introduced a tool that would allow users to “control more” to see a non-algorithmic version of News Feed. The tool, called Favorites, allows users to prioritize posts from friends and the pages they follow in the News Feed. While that does…
