Re Patreon: I don't think opening one of those is the best plan for me, considering the way my workflow's been changing in the last few years (I've been trying to give myself more "breathing time" on projects. not less). I also have to say that I've been hearing some concerns voiced by people I know that Patreon is not quite the platform it used to be, at least in terms of how much it rakes off the top of what financial benefits creators manage to make, these days). So for the time being, I don't see that as a way I'll be going.

(( In the process of moving from west coast back to Northeast. (I'm not happy about it. Don't celebrate it.) Already spent a few hundred on shipping boxes back and I'm nowhere near done. But the cheapest, reliable movers are giving a quote of roughly 4k.

Mom thinks this is unreasonable, and said, and I quote: "Your stuff isn't worth 4k. 9_9. You only have what? A folding desk you got at goodwill?" (Also keep in mind I never said SHE had to foot that entire bill).

Keep in mind, she's been here several times. She was here June of last year. She's insisting I don't have anything more aside from the chair in which I sleep in, and a computer desk. I've been over here 7 years now, my apartment is fully furnished. She keeps gaslighting and insists there's nothing here. That I only own a few shirts, that I don't have bedding, no dishware etc. You see, when something is MINE it doesn't exist or has no value. Unless it was something she gifted or finds a use for. She also got angry when I reminded her of the L.A ordinance where appliances are not the responsibility of the Landlord, broken or no. She aggressively told me I was wrong, started making up some shit about fees -- I never said there would be a fee I said the broken fridge isn't the landlord's responsibility. She doubled down on being an asshole. There was other shit she spewed from her mouth that I don't have the spoons to repeat.

So I hung up.

Does this risk her throwing out the things I've already sent back or had to leave there in the first place? Yup.

Does this risk a roof over my head as she has the power too call up the landlord and say I'm going to be out and gone in a few days, forcing me to shelter my cat and either go back with nothing, (a lot of this is irreplaceable or I need it for work) or find a park bench to sleep on for the rest of my days? Ayeah.

Do I care? Honestly not anymore. I'm tired. I'm beyond burnt out. It's the dead time of year so I'm getting a singular shift each week. No one else with hire me, commissions have all but dried up and because of all the social media fuckery, all my calls for help. Donations, discounted comms, sticker sales are just. Going nowhere. I have no other family, or support system outside of getting the occasional digital hug or back pat. Whatever curse I got goin' on here is about to win.))

For me reading these deep dives on OTW issues u guys apparently it's been said multiple times that one of their objective statements is to have paid staff for ao3 and there's a surplus of donations they haven't used up or the other community solutions that needs to address. Another way all of these struggles are connected, is the way media decides to automatically exonerate the perpetrators.

It is clear as day, how corporate US media decides to be complicit in the normalization of violence by deciding how it wants to cover things. The bias is in the headlines, and these are just two specific examples.

There is no way that these companies should be getting away with this. There needs to be groups of people to hold a fire to them. If nothing is done, fascists will continue to openly define how events are perceived by the general public in media.
