#and i think the avengers have a good friendship dynamic too

My hot take is that the Avengers never felt like a found family because they were never intended to. They were always meant to be a group that comes together and then separates again as needed. They're friends. Coworkers. But they were never meant to be a family.
The only exception is Natasha-- for her they were a family. And her bonds to the other Avengers in general are more significant. She's unquestionably family with Clint. She's very close with Steve. SHe's got mentor/big sister relationship with Wanda. She and Tony are close. She and Bruce had their romance. So for her specifically there is a found family aspect that's legitimate.
But for the others, I don't think you can criticize the Avengers for not feeling like a family because they're not supposed to.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes is just such a goldmine in the Marvel adaptations; especially if you like Hulk as much as I do it's such an ideal interpretation and strikes the ideal balance between the ambiguity between him being a hero or a monster (he can't be TOO straightforwardly heroic or he loses a lot of what makes him compelling, but Hulk shouldn't be malevolent or mindless and MUST be a hero in some way) that I don't think has been properly captured since Planet Hulk or Immortal Hulk. Maybe Thor Ragnarok if you look at the subtext around him.
One thing I consider is that EMH specifically seems to take the earliest characterizations of the Marvel heroes, without being too influenced by the MCU (which if I recall was only just starting out then, enough to influence things but not so much that it completely dominated the characterization) and reinvents this earlier characterizations, making something rather new and unique to this series, so you get things such as Wasp (who is one of the most liked takes on the character here) and as noted, Hulk. Much like the Devil Hulk alter from Immortal Hulk, in this series his characterization here reads as a reinterpretation of his initial characterization as a smarter and unpredictable entity driven by his resentfulness.
Hulk is done so well! I feel like part of why season 2's writing suffers overall is that they had to put him on a shelf for the entire Secret Invasion plot.
What I also like about it is how Banner is incorporated into the story. Bruce Banner is a lot more unconditionally heroic than The Hulk, and that's shown right from the jump when he essentially makes a heroic sacrifice by agreeing to let The Hulk stay transformed indefinitely in exchange for him helping the others fight Graviton. Hell, when Hulk gets briefly mind controlled by the Enchantress, the person we see doing the standard Heroic Willpower Fighting From The Inside stuff is Banner. Banner's appearances are a rare treat after the opener, because he's characterized perfectly - brilliant, businesslike since he's always on a clock, and completely up to speed on everything the others have been up to. And it's also kind of fun how the other Avengers are always quite protective of Banner on the rare occasions he gets forced out mid-fight.
And I like how it's clear that Hulk and Banner communicate more than we get to see. There's Banner knowing exactly how to stop the Gamma World plot even though he hasn't had Using The Body Privileges in weeks, and later there's a cute moment where Tony is trying to analyze some mysterious energy and Hulk just immediately IDs it while noshing on a turkey leg. Banner isn't useless or mired in angst, and Hulk isn't dumb. It really feels like they've long since stopped trying to fight each other and have accepted that they're on the same side, and that's a nice change for Hulk storylines!
Also Hulk's friendships with Wasp and Hawkeye are just. Absolute highlights. The dynamics are so good.

Hi, again. 👋
I found the post you were talking about. The stan's account was deactivated, but yeesh. 😬 Nice replies to them, btw.
The stan that bashed on me said I was being misogynistic, even though I'm a black woman who just wanted to see another black character get their chance to shine.
Hell, it's not just the shows and movies (I think this all started with Endgame). It's also the Steve Rogers musical too. I don't know if you know about it, but Disney made the musical real, and it really did Sam and Bucky dirty.
Sam isn't even in it. Maybe he was mentioned once, but the musical showed an image of Sam as Captain America. As for Bucky, his scene from CA:TFA, where he saved pre-serum Steve, was given to Peggy instead. Bucky was mentioned once, and the musical tried to justify Steve's ending from Endgame. All for this ship.
And, frankly, I don't hate Peggy, I'm just more annoyed that other characters get shoved aside as well as this great dynamic that Steve and Bucky had, while she and her ship with Steve has been getting propped up more and more. But, seeing some of your and the others' posts, I get why you guys don't like her.
Girl, don’t get me started on the abomination that was Rogers the musical. It could have been glorious, it had so much potential, but once again Bucky’s role in Steve’s story was given to Peggy, and Sam wasn’t even there!
I feel like Marvel feels the need to tone down Stucky or their friendship overall because it was just too powerful. We all remember the hashtag that begged Marvel to make Stucky Canon, #givecaptainamericaaboyfriend. They just couldn’t let it happen, not to a main and important character like Steve, god forbid. And so ever since civil war Stucky has always had little to no scenes together no matter how well established it was in previous projects. All their scenes and dynamic were given to Peggy, their friendship was toned down, Steve’s whole ending happened. It just feels like Stucky is so menacing to Marvel that the only way to stop us is by destroying Steve, Bucky and their relationship.
I mean, Steve is given no justice in his ending and in all the other projects he appeared in. Bucky went from a victim and prisoner of war to someone who must make amends for things that were beyond his control. And the depth of their friendship was toned down and reduced every time Peggy was involved. And then they wonder why many people in the fandom dislike Peggy or why the whole Rogers the musical initiative flopped the second it went beyond Hawkeye.
Like, even if you don’t ship Stucky you can tell that they care for each other, and you can tell there was a shift after people actually wanted Marvel to take action and do something about this dynamic. Steve can’t get even one episode as his own character because Peggy must be there. Bucky had more luck, but still… and let’s not even talk about Sam, his only appearance was as a zombie!
In another post of mine I ranted about how bothered I was that Peggy was inserted in the 1602 storyline, and i haven’t changed my mind. It would have been so nice to give Steve one episode about himself, about his dynamic with his best friend and about the relationship with himself and his fellow avengers. But no, Peggy must be there too, and for no good reason as well.
I feel like Marvel trying to erase pre-existing relationships to have Peggy shine only results in fans turning their back on Marvel and hiding in fanfiction or whatever piece of media that can actually bring justice to the characters. Once someone on Tumblr said “you gave us the characters, but once you mess them up they’re not yours anymore. You don’t understand and respect them, therefore you don’t deserve them.” and I couldn’t agree more, which is why I am currently reading and writing fanfiction rather than buying into everything marvel gives us.
Peggy was the love interest with more screen time even before what if and all that jazz, she had her own show! And I fear that the day Marvel will realize that pushing a reimagined Nazi turned Mary Sue into every single what if episode where she can fit instead of enhancing the characters that are actually relevant in-universe it will be too late.
Sorry about the rant, I get carried away when it’s about my boys lol

Domme Natasha Romanov x Sub Reader
summary: Natasha’s missions as an Hero always take her away from you for a long time. After a long mission, she comes home being incredibly nervous and on edge, and end up taking out her stress on you. That behavior ends as soon as your safe word is used, making her understand she was dealing with her pain in the wrong way. You are there to support her during her breakdown.
warnings: sub/domme dynamic, safe wording, kinda of unhealthy scene at first, anxiety attack, panic/anxiety comfort, aftercare, love and fluff. Maybe don’t read if you are little. (This is not even a scene, it’s just everything happening quickly)
words count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: the situation written below isn’t healthy, but it will be dealt with care and love by the ones involved. You’ll see the character experience an high stress level, and wrongly taking it out on the one person she loves. Everyone can experience a burnout, but don’t confuse it with mental and physical abuse. If you think you are being abused in your dynamic, please, contact the authorities or leave immediately.
————————————————————————————
During the scene there was a strange atmosphere, it was not like the other times. When Natasha came back from a mission, she usually gave herself time to change in comfortable clothes, eat and get back in shape before relieving her stress on you, but this time everything went differently. It was sudden, too sudden.
The mission itself was tremendous. You watched from home all the Avengers' moves, asking for news every two minutes, and you soon realized it wouldn’t be easy to forget, for all of them, but mostly for Natasha.
Clint had informed you of her condition: she was physically debilitated, mentally broken, and definitely more on edge than usual. The mission had triggered many memories now lost in oblivion, bringing her anxiety and pain. You were looking forward to seeing her again, you wanted to help as best as you could, but this time you both crossed the line.
When she opened the door, she was welcomed by the lovely and calm environment of your perfectly cleaned apartment. You were patiently waiting for her, your outfit cozy; the bathroom was ready for her and you neatly washed and folded her clothes, it was your love language.
She limped to the center of the apartment, closing the door behind her and not greeting you, not even with a lift of her chin. You didn’t want to invade her space, so you just stood up and walked up to her.
You looked at her, she was not the same person from when she left: her clothes were ruined, covered in dust and dirt, her hair was messy, she had blood on her lower lips and her eyes were swollen and… sad. The only thing shining was her favorite necklace, a silver arrow, a symbol of her friendship
with Clint.
Her hand rested on the kitchen island, a nervous sigh escaping her lips as she wiped her chin with her leather jacket. You already made some food and displayed it along with some beverages on the counter, but she looked hungry for another thing, you recognized that hunger.
It wasn’t a good idea, but you haven’t seen each other for a long time, and you couldn’t deny you were looking forward to touching her body and feeling her close again. You just didn’t expect her to be so eager.
Deep, strong and green eyes barely met yours before your lips and body were crashing. You felt the dryness of her skin against yours, trying your best to deepen the kiss as she lifted you and lead you to the bedroom. You stumbled against the furniture and the door frame, until a loud groan escaped her throat. “For god’s sake, fuck this door”
She pushed you against the wooden door, your back collided violently with it, a sharp pain hitting your body. You hissed when you felt the contrast with the soft and fresh mattress, your lungs finally having access to air again. “Natasha…”
“Shut up” she quickly hushed you, her hand covering your mouth. “That damn mission was a nightmare, I spent days without sleeping or eating, no one was helping each other, I’m fed up with being the only one who truly fucking cares about keeping the Avengers together.”
She was angry, furious even. Her hands were already squeezing your breasts, as her lips made their way to your collarbones, leaving her blood on your soft skin. “You smell so good, I want to mark you”. And with that, she did. You felt her teeth digging in your skin, and soon you found yourself moaning to the pleasurable pain.
It was pleasure, but not healthy.
“And I’m not Natasha, you should know the rules by now” she reinforced with grabbing your chin forcefully. She ripped your shirt open, giving you no time to realize what was happening. “Your nipples drive me crazy” she whispered against the soft flesh.
You melted underneath her hot breathing for a minute, until you felt the sharp pain of her teeth closing around your hard bundles. You gritted your teeth, grunting and holding her head between your hands. “Fuck” you yelled.
You tried to push her away, to disconnect her from the powerful hold she had on you, but you realized it was almost impossible. She was lost in her head, too lost to continue the scene while keeping it safe and healthy.
She started undoing the buttons of your pants, roughly pushing a hand through the fabric, sliding her fingers in between your folds.
You both agreed with each other on what you liked and disliked during your scenes: roughness was accepted, slaps and grabbing too, marks and bites were your biggest kinks, but right now they weren’t making you happy.
“Nat, stop” You mumbled when she pulled her body into yours even more. Your request was barely audible, but brought her attention back to your face, not with the result you were expecting tho. She grabbed your face between her fingers, her lips close to yours.
“You think I had fun with all those men? Uh? You think it was pleasurable to be surrounded by people who don’t understand you or your needs? I had the most horrible month of my life, I had to walk through my past all by myself, it wasn’t fun, trust me” she angrily whispered one centimeter away from your face.
That wasn’t the Natasha you knew, she wasn’t the same person who massaged your shoulders every night and handled you with care at all times. That was the ruthless black widow, who had to complete her goal and end the day as soon as possible.
That wasn’t the Natasha you knew, she wasn’t the same person who massaged your shoulders every night and handled you with care at all times. That was the ruthless black widow, who had to complete her goal and end the day as soon as possible.
Your eyes were filled with tears at the sight of that person you didn’t even recognize. "Why are you taking out your pain on me like this? I waited a whole month to have you back, and all you are giving me is a reason not to trust you anymore" you whispered, looking away. “Budapest”
Your safe word was loud and clear, echoing in the silent room. It was the first time you ever used it. The only thing that filled the silence were your small sobs and her loud breathing, a great contrast to the prior events.
The panic in her was obvious, her eyes going from yours to the marks she just left on your body. Her eyes were shiny, tiny droplets of sweat adorned her forehead, and her lips were red as fire. That word seemed to have snapped her out of the “widow” headspace, your Natasha was back.
A soft hand caressed your right cheek, a lonely tear escaping her eyes. “What did I do?” She whispered painfully. “W-What- I’m so sorry, I”. Her breathing was becoming faster, and her hands were trembling against you.
“Baby?” You softly called her, trying to get her to focus on you. “It’s okay, we are both okay, we are just tired”. When you tried to get her closer tho, she stood up, leaning to the nearest wall, and collapsed on the cold wooden floor.
“You shouldn’t trust me, I’m dangerous” she cried.
You took a deep breath, sitting on the edge of the bed and thinking the best way to approach her. You slowly sat on the floor, taking small steps towards the wall she was leaning on. “You aren’t dangerous, baby, you aren’t dangerous at all. They trained you to be dangerous, but here” you pointed your fingers to her heart. “Here, you are good, soft and caring. You kept your heart pure, Natasha”
Loud sobs filled the room, her stress being finally dealt with in the healthiest way. You gave her her space to cry, to feel and to take in everything that happened, it was a lot even for the strongest hero and avenger in the entire universe.
“I’m not going anywhere” you reassured her.
She slowly crawled into your caring arms, feeling your heartbeat and following the movements of your chest. Her face was wet, her eyes were swollen and her body was trembling, but you didn’t care.
Your Natasha was home, with you. “You’ll be staying here with me for a long time, I won’t be sending you to fight enemies like this. You need to take care of yourself, and I’ll help you with it. You are not alone, Nat”
You nuzzled in her hair, taking her under your protective wing while she was showing herself vulnerable. You knew that neglecting her true needs was what she was used to, but things were going to change. Sometimes we need to fight the enemies we have inside before fighting the ones that are waiting for us on the outside.
“You are safe with me, I’ll take care of you.”

Not romantic chemistry, but overall onscreen chemistry...
I think in Marvel Chris basically had chemistry with everyone.
Actually, I think if he was still in the franchise they might actually be doing better. A while back on twitter fans were reminiscing how the old Marvel OGs vibed and hit way better than the new generation. People were saying Chris had fun with virtually everyone he was paired up with during those Avengers press tours and there was always laughter and hilarity in those interviews he participated in. His personality was just inviting and charismatic and I really think it rubbed off on a lot of people. Not everyone, but the majority. And I think now that he's no longer there, there is a hole.
He and RDJ really had chemistry. Hemsworth. Scarlett. Renner. Elizabeth Olsen. Chadwick.
Danai and him didn't have too many scenes on camera but IRL they vibed very well.
While not everyone appeared to get along with Brie Larsen when she first showed up, her and Chris vibe well.
Him and Don Cheadle have great hilarious snarky banter.
Even him and Frank Grillo - everyone has to hate on the whole Hydra thing but they actually had chemistry. It was weird but interesting. Makes that whole dynamic also intriguing and terrible.
Anthony Mackie and Chris have excellent chemistry. IMHO, Steve and Sam's friendship was one of my favorites - they immediately lit up the screen upon first meeting. I wish they explored that friendship more when they could have.
Outside of Marvel, I think Chris has great chemistry with Octavia Spencer. I also thought he did better with Betty Gabriel in Defending Jacob than Michelle Dockery. Maybe because Betty's character wasn't his wife and he just does better when he's teaming up with someone or portraying a friendship or even a nemesis.
Bryce Dallas Howard and him did pretty well. I think she's a really good actress too and that pairing of their characters actually worked for me.
Overall, I thought Chris and everyone else in Knives Out had great chemistry. Not a single miss IMHO. I also think that was one of the best casts of modern times. I'm a bit confused, annoyed, and irritated as to why they didn't get a Best Ensemble Cast nomination.
I agree with all this. No one has to ever complained about him on set. Everyone seems to get along with him well. He just can’t fake being in love 🤷🏻‍♀️ being a love interest is his weakness.

you know what. it's missing norton!bruce hours (again) and i got some headcanons to share this time. below the cut because we might be here a while.
general / misc headcanons:
based on norton's screenplay for the incredible hulk, this bruce's full name is david bruce banner. (this is also how i mentally differentiate between norton and ruffalo's portrayals; to me, norton!bruce is david, ruffalo!bruce is robert.)
his mother used to call him "davey" as an affectionate nickname when he was little.
frankenstein is one of his favorite books because his mother read it to him. (this one is canon to the ih novelization)
he adores dogs and adopts a puppy between the avengers and age of ultron. (i don't have a name for the puppy yet.)
he likes studio ghibli films and finds the animation style relaxing.
learned russian while getting one of his phds, like in the comics.
inspired by this panel from the "super spy banner" arc in the comics: he likes james bond. and yes, he absolutely takes the chance to say "the name is banner. bruce banner" when he's doing an infiltration mission (probably with natasha and/or clint) or something. he and natasha probably watch the films together since her solo film had her quoting along to moonraker.
bruce. is. a. martial. artist. the films forget this and i'm salty about it.
cooking is relaxing for him so he tends to make a lot of food, and he knows a lot of dishes from different cultures because of how much he's traveled. no one on the team complains.
bruce's powers:
glowing eyes <3
inspired by the john turman hulk script, electricity behaves weird around bruce when he gets emotional. he has made lightbulbs and other things explode if he's standing too close to them. he learns how to isolate the effect once he understands more about his relationship with hulk. tony helps by giving him things he doesn't mind getting exploded, and for bruce it also works kind of like a trauma release. he can still accidentally blow something up if he gets distracted / agitated, but it happens less.
the electrical-interference power also manifests as him being able to hear electrical currents. different things have slightly different sounds / pitches and tony always asks him to describe them.
still has a pretty good healing factor as bruce, it's just slower. (in a ih deleted scene sparr says she's never seen someone recover from a tranquilizer as fast as he does). also can't get drunk, but he's never tested that for obvious reasons.
in the novel he's able to dodge a tranq dart "aimed and fired in one motion" so he probably also has faster reflexes.
immune to mind control as bruce and as hulk. both are pissed at wanda for trying it.
based on a scene in the immortal hulk comics, bruce uses automatic writing and drawing to communicate with hulk when hulk isn't out.
can see astral forms. they're clearer and even tangible when hulk is in control, but bruce can also see them.
also inspired by immortal hulk, he has a weird sixth sense for when people are lying to him. as bruce the "itch" he gets can be ignored most of the time, as hulk not so much.
relationship / dynamic headcanons:
no brutasha romance to be seen here they are friends 😌 (if that's your cup of tea that's fine it just isn't mine.)
stays. in. contact. with. betty. (i will forever fight the mcu over this. they are soulmates yall.)
steals tony's band shirts like a gremlin. also steals tony's snacks.
bruce🤝wanda: blurring the lines of science and mysticism. (later comics describe gamma radiation as having a mystical element, "like a magic spell... when viewed from another angle" which is the same reason bruce / hulk tend to have some extrasensory powers).
i just think we were robbed of a bruce and wanda friendship okay.

What are your thoughts on Infidget (the ship of Infinite and Gadget the Wolf)?
i think its fine? i dont inherently dislike it or anything, and i dont mind seeing it from time to time. the only thing that i dont like is like, a lot of the shipping community's interpretations of it. and by that i mean the people that twinkify and feminize gadget into being a little wooby baby that cant do anything without his big strong man and infinite is just the stereotypical scary-on-the-outside soft-on-the-inside masc/male/im a man/im he him boyfriend. either that or gadget is fine and its just infinite who is extremely out of character. i had a lot of "he would not fucking say that" moments with infinite when infidget was at its most popular bc these kinds of depictions were everywhere and it was really annoying
the only version of infidget ive ever shipped was a lovers to friends to enemies to... somethings type deal where they dont go back to how they used to be by the end but its not vitriolic, they just outgrew each other in their own ways during the events of forces. that or their relationship cant get mended at all and theres no closure bc infinite dies or whatever like he did in canon. and i know this is the best version of infidget bc i made it up, thanks
i actually shipped it before forces even came out bc i thought that that was sort of the route that sonic team was going to take with tying the avatar into the story. it made sense to me for the avatar (or in this case gadget) to have some sort of previous history or connection with infinite bc in my onion, that makes their dynamic a little spicier and more compelling. in my version, gadget and infinite (then zero) used to be very close until zero started getting more involved with a local gang, the jackal squad, which began to drive a wedge between them until they got more and more distant from each other. and then some more time passes and gadget hasnt heard from zero for a long time and then the events of forces start. i think part of the idea was from this dialogue that we got to hear when footage of infinites second battle came out before the game itself:
Tumblr media
(image text reads as infinite saying "and those eyes.. i feel like we've met before.")
-which implied that the avatar and infinite had history. which was technically true, but it was within the timeline of the game bc it turned out he was referring to like. the flashback cutscene of the avatar being too scared to fight back the first time they ran into infinite before joining the resistance, so it wasnt what i was hoping for
another reason iirc was uhhhh whatshisface? sega scourge on youtube? they made a theory video about infinite getting his mind wiped by the ruby or something and that added fuel to the fire. its a really cool concept and while i dont think that the avatar wanting to avenge those they lost is necessarily bad, i feel like its just kind of meh for the kind of story forces was trying to tell, what with the friendship-is-cool themes and whatnot. so i thought the avatar/gadgets arc was going to be we get to find out how they and infinite (or at least just the former lol) know each other, and how infinite became infinite in the first place, and gadget wanted to both help put a stop to everything but also get his friend back through, you guessed it, the power of friendship. hooray! i read a really good fic that was like that called til we touch the sun on a03 (that fic still makes me go insane thinking about it) that went with a sidestory for gadget that was quite similar to what i just described
plus the idea of infinite and gadget having shared a past but only one of them remembers it and now has to deal with a monster that looks like who they used to be but is no longer the same in every other regard due to them going dark side (willingly or unwillingly) is super angsty. and i like my ships raw and some degree of brutal for the soul. it keeps me young
but yeah im overall neutral. tl;dr: infidget is a fine ship, i just wish it had more canon-supported flavour and i wish the majority of shippers would stop writing infinite so poorly to make him fit properly into their milquetoast domestic fluff romances, but whatever. we all get enjoyment out of different things, even if theyre wrong :3 (for safety reasons i have to disclose that the previous statement was a joke)

MUST READS
These are fanfiction that I feel like are must reads. Separated by Fandom. Enjoy!
MCU
🐐Death Before Inaction is literally one of the best Peter Parker fics I've ever read, if you want skewed dynamics, no slash, an OP Peter, and really good story telling this is for you.
The Anomaly is an amazing Into the Spiderverse fic that really goes into Miles character and how giving up; doing everything in your power to prevent something and then it happens anyways, can destroy you and change your perspective. And on the other side how choices can make you regret them.
Bound by a Promise to the Moon is an Avengers work that is focused on characters and relationships between people who have drifted apart. It is IronStrange but nothing in your face for the most part 💀 you can skip those parts if you don't like it😁. It really is worth the read though.
Crossovers
Gaming Spider is a MCU fic that is Peter-centric but be warned because they dropped 8 chapters on the same day in 2022 and haven't updated since. It's so entertaining because Peter just has the Gamer Power (basically Litrpg elements) and grows increasingly stronger after every encounter, and the plot makes sense and isn't only based on the system.
All of the heroes and all of the men, couldn’t save Tommy from getting kidnapped again is such a bias rec on my part, I like crossovers that are done correctly and I was a mcyt and dsmp follower (not really watcher, I can't commit to anything) and this is a story changed by the characters, where the original plot is nothing but a memory to help character development. God I love character development.
BNHA
🐐Parallax is a BNHA fic that is SI and I KNOW BUT HERE ME OUT is basically like if Todoroki was haunted by a physics loving astronomer that made him feel more like someone else, but still kept a lot of what makes him, him. It's so good, like touched me so deeply that I have a hard time explaining it.
A Study In Deceit is a BNHA fic (I know) that is SO FUNNY, basically Bakugou is BBC's Sherlock, but has hid it for all his life, he does cases on the side and turns them in anonymously to the police. It's really good if you're looking for Todoroki and Bakugou friendship.
Foresight now this, this is crack. Want a BNHA fic that speeds through the story in ways that are so funny? Want someone doing something without a clue why? READ THIS. If you know the plot of BNHA it's sometimes easy to guess why he's doing what he's doing but the reactions of other characters is sooo good.
RONIN, ronin, ronin, ronin. This thing is the best ever, BNHA, op Midoriya but now you might be scrolling past, but... It's SO GOOD, BOHB_STEVENS IS A GENIUS this fic was made to practice fighting and ohhhhh did they get plently of practice. If you like fighting scenes that are descriptive, easy to understand, and EXHILARATING read this.
Magneto is an amazingly different BNHA SI fic, where really the story stays the same but I'm a simple person and slice of life interactions can be just as fun as fighting and complicated story telling (the storytelling is good btw) . I think I you want a little angst mixed with mostly good times and crack you should read this.
Pinwheel Eyes is a BNHA if Midoriya had a quirk. But once again the story is original they aren't afraid to make unpopular decisions to keep realism, and he has to win to keep people alive, not just have plot armor. I think if you want amazing fights and to be surprised over and over with how good this is you should read it
Crossovers
🐐A Massacre of One is a BNHA/Worm crossover that is something out of a dream for me. Super long, well written, fight scenes, character development, and well done implementation of other stories elements. With quirks it makes it easy, but still the reactions of others when they figured out what happened is AHHH and the way they make them go through the story is amazing too. Big props to the writer.
Si Vis Pacem is a BNHA/John Wick fic where John Wick (would it be SI?) is reincarnated into Midoriya, and it's pretty good, ngl it updates like 3 times a year so it's been a minute since I've read it, but I remember really liking it.
Be Careful What You Ask Your God is a BNHA and Chainsaw Man crossover where once again (I know I said it wasn't the norm) the characters are the story, here they took a different approach and didn't even focus on the main characters of BNHA and just how the mc's of chainsaw man would live in that world, but the LORE (matpat😭) is interesting.
Misc.
Harry Potter
Porcupine Quills & Potion Spills A Harry Potter (Snape-centric) work. This fic is pretty good, but it's not TOP top tier. The reason it's here is because I've been looking for another fic that has this same idea but none have done it this certain way and I really like the idea. Now it is on Hiatus but its only been a few months, so they'll probably be back (man I hope so).
Crossovers
A Wand for Skitter is a Harry Potter and Worm crossover (if you haven't read worm and appreciate modern sci-fi/eldritch original works you should read it) but the characters are amazing, nothing seems cheap and the ending, THE ENDING it was so good.
Stranger Things
I really didn't mean to hurt anyone is a Stranger Things story that had Steve as Seven. The choices with the way the story is going makes sense and again the characters are so well written. His powers are original and make the story even better and even gets him into some unsavory situations.
Worm

Kuroko's Basketball
Ball Is Life, But You Still Need To Pay Rent before anything, this work is on hiatus (it hasn't updated since 2022) it's a Kuroko's Basketball fic that is a SI but omg this si is not a John Doe he is so out of pocket I'm not gonna spoil it a lot but if you like the anime you should read this you'll have fun.
The Saga of Tanya the Evil
The Chronicles of Tanya the Fuehrer is another Tanya fic where it's after the war ends, the beginning is amazing, she does get a bit ooc in some parts but other than that the story itself is so entertaining and how they describe things and paint a picture is so beautiful.
Crossovers
A Young Girl's Guerrilla War is a Code Geass and The Saga of Tanya the Evil crossover. It's if Tanya died and was reincarnated again into code geass (another war so on brand) it's something special because it feels like an AU, which so many crossovers can't accomplish, they just follow the plot of the story with new characters without changing the world based on their characters actions. This story is Amazing and something that should become a norm within the trope.

MCYT/DSMP
Weapon Reforged is something everyone should experience even if they don't know the fandom (I'm not even gonna say it but don't be pushed off once you see it because the story is original and uses characters simple traits to build new ones off of) it's an amazing work of art that is near and dear to me in a big way, it hasnt updated since 2021 but you have to, HAVE TO read this.
Crossovers
All of the heroes and all of the men, couldn’t save Tommy from getting kidnapped again is such a bias rec on my part, I like crossovers that are done correctly and I was a mcyt and dsmp follower (not really watcher, I can't commit to anything) and this is a story changed by the characters, where the original plot is nothing but a memory to help character development. God I love character development.
Blue Lock
A Child's Dream is a Blue Lock fic that is the only reasonabley lengthed fic that isn't slash that I have found. Theres a lot of simping for Isagi but that's normal enough. The development is interesting and keeps you engaged and the interactions are funny and so out of left pocket most of the time.
Déjà Vu is a Blue Lock fic that is probably abandoned, but the idea and execution make up for it, it's also short so don't worry about slogging through 100,000 words then figuring out it's abandoned. It's kind of crack-like but more serious than you would expect.
Miraculous Ladybug
(pockets full of) Stones is a Miraculous Ladybug one shot that is somewhat tear inducing and very realistic. Want a AroAce Adrien Agreste? READ THIS

What If....? season 2, episode 4. One post again due to more family gatherings. *SPOILERS*
So, in Captain Carter's universe, Wasp is part of the Avengers, and is fighting the Chitauri instead of Hulk? Bruce was mentioned later on so he's there, but why Wasp instead of Hulk in this scene? And where's Ant-Man?
Peggy and Natasha are besties which I don't mind. They do have a cool dynamic and friendship.
Since this is the alternate version of the Winter Soldier movie, I thought Sam would be in the mix as the trio. Unfortunately, he's not in it which is odd to me. Come to thing of it, the only other time Sam made one appearance in What If and that was as a zombie to be killed by Bucky. Since then, he never showed up in any other episode. What's up with that?
Speaking of Bucky, he's an old man now and this universe's Alexander Pierce (I think), except he's not an evil @$$hole and is good at his job. Also, he and Steve teamed up taking down Hydra bases. So, they still had their time together, even though it wasn't both of them who grew old. Honestly, I'm so happy that Bucky got to live a long life and is doing well. I just wish it wasn't at the cost of Steve's life being taken away and being used by the Red Room (I'll get to that later. Also, Brock Rumlow is in it, but I don't know if he's Hydra or not in this one.
There's a scene that also brought me feels and it was Old Man Bucky talking to Steve to get him to stop. He did manage to hesitate for a bit, but that was it. God, I wish we could've gotten more of these two, but this is Peggy's episode. She's gotta be the one to save Steve.
Yeah, it's not Hydra, it's the Red Room. Wasn't expecting this change in this universe, but I don't get why they need Steve along with the Hydra Stomper. Like, couldn't they have taken the suit? Is it because the suit is built for only Steve to pilot it? Maybe I missed something back in season one.
I thought Dreykov was the leader, but it's Melina instead. Yeah, she doesn't get a redemption and is evil. She gets killed by getting dragged back to the Red Room and the place gets blown up.
Red Room's base being an American suburban neighborhood is weird and creepy. The mannequins didn't help either.
So, Melina said that girls in Russia dreamed of being Captain Carter, which I thought was odd cause what about Red Guardian? Isn't he a super soldier too? Then again, this universe might not even have Red Guardian and I think a woman super soldier might be more appealing to Melina. It still feels odd though. Also, I'm guessing Yelena isn't in this one too.
Lots of Steggy in this episode. There was even a scene where they almost kissed. Also, is them talking about dancing is a different way of talking about sex?
The fight scenes were pretty cool. Natasha taking on a bunch of Widows, but almost lost to Melina. She still kicked butt. Peggy fighting the Hydra Stomper which she made a confession that got Steve to stop but only to fly to the Red Room to blow it up. It is different compared to Steve vs. Bucky in the Winter Soldier movie.
Yet, despite all that, she believes that he's alive. I don't know how, but okay. However, a cliffhanger ending where she's summoned into the 1602 universe by the Scarlet Witch....uh, okay? So, we're really getting another multiversal threat. But, we're not gonna get the 1602 episode untill after the Kahhori episode and the Hela episode.
Okay, this is gonna come off as critical, maybe even anti for Peggy, but has anyone else notice how much Captain Carter gets propped up in this episode? Probably more than any character in this series so far. Hell, the reason why she was summoned to another universe cause she's gonna be the one who'll save their queen and their world. Why though? I know that in the synopsis of the 1602 episode other characters are gonna show up, but the ending implies that Peggy's gonna be the one who'll save the day. Maybe I'm wrong and am making a big deal over nothing. We'll just have to wait see how the other episodes go.
Next episode is Kahhori, an original indigenous character in this series who'll get the powers of the tesseract, I think. I hope I'll like her and that she's a cool character.

Which of the three Scream 6 killers do you see as the most likely to be sincerely 'rehabilitated' or at least deeply remorseful one day in the (distant!) future? I wanted to write a fic where I explore this particular issue, by the way, and whether any of our core four could or SHOULD ever forgive them :) Also, what do you think Richie, Quinn and Ethan were each like individually and as siblings in the years prior to Richie's murder spree and death? Obviously there had to be hints of instability and darkness even then, but do you see Richie as the most imbalanced and unrepentant? Were they once all semi-decent kids just trying to impress and protect their father and one another? Was Quinn close to Richie or to Ethan? Do you think they suspected that Richie could or would murder people before he actually did? Did their father directly encourage their sociopathy? You get the idea ---please talk as long as you want since you know how much I always love your answers!
okay this ask is SO good, but i’m going to get a bit lengthy on this one so i’m adding a read more <3
out of the three scream 6 killers, i’m honestly not sure which one is the most likely to be remorseful/rehabilitated. my gut instinct is to say either ethan or quinn, just purely because they’re younger and have more of their lives ahead of them? and i think with that in mind, they’d be more likely to feel bad about it only because they threw their lives away.
(imo, they would NOT regret avenging their bro.)
but i think the idea of your AU is really interesting and could be fascinating to explore. i feel like, with that in mind, maybe ethan would work best due to his friendship with chad? but i don’t know! i feel like either of the two of them are likely options.
now, when it comes to the siblings personalities & dynamics pre-canon? i have a LOT of thoughts…
richie was definitely the favored older son, who is definitely at least a couple of years older than his siblings. i think he was probably around 25 when he died and quinn was about 21-22 in scream 6 while ethan was the same age as chad and in the 18-19 range. so that’s, at the very least, a 5 year gap between him and his siblings if you factor in the fact he died a whole year before scream 6.
quinn was definitely the most outgoing/social out of the siblings although i think a bit of her “slutty” roommate persona was just for the cover… and a bit of coping mechanism for her trauma as well. but she totally has the vibe that she was popular and never had trouble making friends — or even any issue with the fact that people don’t like her.
ethan was 100% the stereotypical youngest kid and he was probably a crybaby growing up lmao.
i’d have to find the post, but i saw someone share their headcanon here awhile back that richie had quinn and ethan help with his stab fan-films and that is TOTALLY canon to me! quinn always got to be the final girl while ethan was always the victim.
i’m kind of inclined to think quinn & ethan were the closest out of the siblings, both due to the age gap with richie and because i think det. bailey and richie had a very special father/son bond that kind of made way for quinn & ethan to become close.
i also HC that quinn would always be the first one to tease ethan but if anyone at school bullied or bothered him then she’d be there in an instant to essentially fight his battles for him 😅 (which, imo, is totally backed up by the scene in 6 when quinn reaches the balcony and ethan so joyfully is like “you guys are so fucked now!” … like she’s always been the protective sibling to both ethan & richie.)
i think the bailey-kirsch family like… very clearly has some screws loose, but i think richie’s issues inherently come from the fact that wayne coddled him too much and never curbed his bad traits.
(this kind of ties into a HC i have that their mom died when the kids were really young but….)
i feel like quinn & ethan definitely had an inkling that richie had to the capability to hurt people, but it kind of raises the question to me that with the way their father idolized him… did the two of them even see that as a bad thing? or was richie’s killer instinct something their dad admired and they kind of wished they had more of themselves?
i also know this is definitely a debated topic in the fandom but i do objectively think ethan had some hangs-ups on the favoritism of richie. like, in the monologue det. bailey has about the special bond between a father and his first-born son there’s a very clear acting choice from jack champion to react to that with some pain that i can’t ignore.
i also think there’s a LOT to be said about quinn’s position as the only girl in a family full of boys that seemingly does not have a present mother but that’s a topic for different post because that alone could be as long as this one is right now lmao.
this has gotten LONG so i’ll leave us off on some fun head-canons lol
quinn 100% mains bowser in mario kart and ethan mains yoshi… she’s also not above literally shoving the controller out of his hands in order to win 🤷
they are also SUPER hyper competitive around each other and struggled to hide that from the friend group in scream 6 lol there was definitely an instance of quinn shoving ethan or his remote during mario kart that earned her a whole essay from chad on how cheating is rude while ethan had to try and suppress his laughter LMAO
okay, one last side note, i actually am curious on how ethan and quinn successfully hid the fact they were siblings from the group because even with fake identities that kind of bond seems really hard to hide to me but that’s a separate essay…

for da character game. i want polnareff
(For this ask game)
First impression: Silly funny guy who brings a cool element to the Stardust Crusaders’ group dynamic. Loved that he was a walking Princess Bride reference. Don’t think I really thought about him too much, though.
Impression now: OUGHHHHHH. Love guys that are wacky comic relief on the surface but end up going through The Horrors and becoming tragic. I feel so bad for him like. This guy really went through it. It’s so interesting to see how much he’s changed since SDC in Vento Aureo and how just. Tired he seems. He’s not someone I think about constantly, but when I do, I am in shambles. Guy who finally found catharsis in avenging his sister and ended up having to live with endless other traumas he’ll never be able to make peace with because he’s in too deep now. Cries.
Favorite moment: The whole Vanilla Ice fight. Man. Not only so sad, but so awesome when he finally defeats him, and such a good indicator of how far he’s come as a character and how much Avdol, Iggy, and the other Crusaders mean to him. On the same note, his attempt to kill Dio to save Jotaro in the final fight. Sick as hell, even if he wasn’t successful.
Idea for a story: I’m really interested in his past working for Dio – what did Dio do or say to lure him in? What was his role in Dio’s team? How did they even meet? I’ve always wanted to write something about his and Kakyoin’s time in Cairo, because I feel like there’s so much to explore and theorize about.
Unpopular opinion: Simply for story reasons. I think. He should’ve died instead of Avdol. It would’ve been a cool reversal of Avdol’s sacrifice in the Hol Horse/J. Geil fight, and it would’ve been interesting to see Avdol as a mentor figure in VA.
Favorite relationship: Him and Avdol have such an interesting dynamic from the get-go with their first fight, and even though they had a good handful of episodes focusing on their relationship, I still wish we had more. Also Avpol canon etc etc. I really really love his terrible silly friendship with Kakyoin, too.
Favorite headcanon: Sad one: he doesn’t live too long after Vento Aureo. It’s hard keeping his spirit clinging to the turtle, and it eventually becomes too taxing for him. He doesn’t make it to Stone Ocean, and he’s buried in Italy by Giorno and his friends. Silly one: he LOVES disco, and seeing Saturday Night Fever was a formative experience for him.

Also, I dunno if you've done much about Eomer and Eowyn, but I'd love to see 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, and 12. This game is so much fun! ^_^
Heck yeah, sibling time, let's go! I'll try to keep these answers short, since there's so many of them, but we'll see how well that works, LOL
2. "My favorite scene of them"
It's kinda weird, but I actually really like that moment when he finds out she isn't actually dead and he's immediately like "NO TIME TO TALK GOTTA GO FAST" and just power-walks to the Houses of Healing without another word. You'd think I'd like the reunion better, when Eowyn actually wakes up, but there's just something so compelling about the anxiety beforehand; the sudden surge of "hope unlooked-for", as Tolkien put it, "and with it the bite of fear and care renewed". That odd mingling of love and fear and hope and despair and relief and dread and "maybe I haven't lost everything yet, but I still could", and the raw, instinctual, almost primal impulse of "no matter in what state I find her, I need to be where she is RIGHT HECKING NOW."
Someone else on this site has pointed out that the purest expression of love in LotR is following. I think Eomer running to Eowyn's side is a pretty good example.
3. "A random headcanon I have of them"
Eowyn is notoriously ticklish. Eomer knows all of her best tickle spots and will not hesitate to weaponize them for nefarious purposes whenever she gets too broody.
4. "My favorite thing about their friendship"
~Siblings~ :-D That's it, really, LOL
We don't get a lot of sibling relationships in LotR! Most of the important hobbits—excluding Sam—are all related in some shape or form, but you don't exactly get the same energy of "I grew up with you and have known you all my life and I can't stand your face but also I would commit murder for you" that you get with siblings. It's just a fun relationship dynamic to explore, and a rare one in this book.
(We probably would've seen that energy portrayed EVEN STRONGER with Boromir and Faramir, but by the time we meet Faramir, his big bro is...hm. Yeah. So that's a lot less fun. You kinda need both siblings to be alive to really see how the dynamics play out.)
5. "A scene I wish we had of them"
Just either one of them travelling to the other kingdom to meet their niblings. Bonus points if said niblings had just been born, and are now tiny little wrinkled potato versions of their respective parents. You just know that Eowyn would be the Cool Aunt with all the neat stories, and that Eomer would absolutely melt on the spot every time Eowyn put a newborn child of hers into his arms. T'would be heckin' adorable. I'd love to see it.
(Eomer always threatens to take his new niece or nephew with him, tucked into his coat as he rides, when it's time to go back to Rohan. "This is mine now, I'm keeping it." "NO.")
8. "Who I think is the crazier one"
Eesh, that's a toughie. Eowyn is "will secretly plan to go to war even though everyone else tells me not to" crazy, and Eomer is "will launch a furious assault on the enemy to avenge my sister's death without even checking that she's for sure dead first" crazy. Deciding which of those is the more bat-crap insane comes down, I think, to subjective personal opinion.
I'm gonna take the boring answer and say I have no idea, but in any case it's clear that crazy runs in that family. It's a wonder that Theoden isn't more off his rocker than he already is.
10. "A song that reminds me of them"
Let's go with "Hey Brother" by Avicii! It's one of my favorite songs in general anyway, and even though the lyrics aren't all that complex, it does make me think of their bond and their individual struggles.
(Plus it's just generally a bop LOL)
12. "A word to describe them"
Valiant, adj: “Very brave or bravely determined, especially when things are difficult or the situation gives no cause for hope.”
FRIENDSHIP ASK GAME!

Do you know of any other good cartoons, especially if they don't end on a cliffhanger?
Is it my birthday already?
ReBoot (s1-3)
Tumblr media
You've already all heard my pitch for this, but TLDR it's set inside a computer, the heroes defend the integrity of their home system by battling viruses, playing games and defeating The User, a godlike being outside their comprehension (aka us). Evolves from episodic pop-culture referential humor into an incredibly immersive and fraught character drama unpacking the nature of heroism, family, growing up and losing who you used to be vs growing up and not losing yourself, and what it means to become a monster to defeat a monster. A series technically canceled that ends on the mother of all cliffhangers, but the season that was canceled was the bonus season they weren't expecting to get anyway, and also it sucks. Watch the first three seasons instead, they form a cohesive overarching narrative and end incredibly satisfyingly.
Batman Beyond
Tumblr media
50 years after Batman: The Animated Series, hooligan with a heart of gold Terry McGinnis becomes the new Batman, quippier, capeless and a bit more irresponsible than the old one, guided by an old and reluctantly retired Bruce Wayne. Basically "what if Batman were Spider-Man", but somehow really good. Like most DC cartoons from that era, ends with a loose "and the adventure continues" vibe. Highly episodic, a couple two-parters sprinkled in there for flavor. Also has a few follow-up comic series, some of which are even good! As a corollary, the other DC cartoons in this zone are also good - Justice League, Batman: The Animated Series, etc.
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Tumblr media
The best version of The Avengers. A team of colorful superheroes slowly assemble over the course of the first half of the first season, fighting a very large rogue's gallery and occasionally each other. Contains the best version of Thor ever written and an astoundingly good portrayal of Captain America, but the entire core cast are well-written and have solid interpersonal dynamics - half the fun of each episode is just seeing what unique friendships every random subset of The Avengers have with each other. Having recently rewatched some of it I can say I actually think the first season is the best it gets, and the second season struggles in places - a few episodes become full-on idiot plots to facilitate certain plotlines (Hulk vs Red Hulk being the worst offender) but the second season has a nice conclusive finale and a few bright spots of characterization. Captain America's writing is rock-solid all the way through, which it needs to be to make the Secret Invasion plotline work. The first season is incredibly good.
Transformers: Prime
Tumblr media
Robots in disguise etc etc, a crack team of autobots live in hiding on Earth fighting decepticons and occasionally ferrying their three human friends to school. Good team dynamics, a fantastic portrayal of Optimus Prime as a rock-solid paragon hero, a team dad and a millennia-old warrior of incredible skill who is very, very tired. Great versions of Megatron and Starscream, lots of other fun secondary characters. Three seasons, portrays a very slow war very well - ground is gained and lost from episode to episode, big battles feature every single asset the heroes have managed to scrape together in previous arcs, etc. Also portrays how fucking terrifying it would be to be a squishy human child underfoot during a giant robot fight. Dwayne The Rock Johnson is in the first five minutes of the show until he gets killed for being too expensive. The 3D animation takes a little getting used to, and I say that as someone who genuinely likes how ReBoot looks.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Tumblr media
preaching to the choir with this one here on tumblr.hell, but this show slaps. A reboot of the 80s cartoon, but the kind of reboot that's basically the story someone would make up when playing with the original's officially licensed action figures. Loyal horde soldier Adora learns to her shock that she's actually on the bad guy side (and also can transform into a magical warrior with a fancy sword) and immediately defects to team good guy, which is seen as the ultimate betrayal by her best friend/repressed childhood crush Catra, who doubles down on the bad-guy thing super hard for four seasons. Characters written with a surprising amount of emotional depth who often react to things more realistically than one might expect - frustration, lingering anger, calling people out for mistreating them, etc. Shouldn't be a high bar, and yet so many shows just use characters as emotionless props incapable of advocating for themselves ever.
Castlevania
Tumblr media
Dracula's wife is killed by the church and he sets out to exterminate all of humanity in retribution. He's opposed by three heroes of varying levels of heroism - his half-vampire son Alucard, the speaker magician Sypha, and Trevor Belmont, last son of the family of monster-hunters who dedicated their entire existence to fighting Dracula. Animation is absolutely gorgeous but very not kid-friendly. Ends on a completely satisfying and happy note, which is shocking considering the tone of the show leading up to it.
Hilda
Tumblr media
A very, very cozy and adorable urban fantasy slice-of-life story about Hilda, a little girl from the wilderness who moves to the big city with her mother after their house is accidentally crushed by a giant. Features a lot of scandinavian folklore. Got two seasons and a movie that wraps everything up pretty solidly. Absolutely incredible aesthetic with occasional moments of abject horror, just how I like it.
Dishonorable mentions, aka shows I watched but can't 100% recommend because of Grievances I Will Enumerate:
Centaurworld
Tumblr media
A warhorse from a war-torn world falls through a portal and gets isekai'd into a brightly-colored magical bubblegum dimension where everyone is a boggle-eyed magical centaur. First season has incredible musical numbers, like broadway level stuff, and it's got some appealing nightmare fuel, but the problem I keep running into is the silly elements are so over-the-top that they undercut the serious parts in a big way. Also, the appeal of a cohesive found family narrative is pretty seriously undercut when the entire found family is composed of joke characters that don't experience plausible emotional investment in their circumstances and don't act like people. The thing is, this isn't a mistake, this is very deliberate on the part of the show and it's doing what it's doing incredibly intentionally - I just don't think I like it.
Dota: Dragon's Blood
Tumblr media
A dragon-slaying warrior gets whammied with a dragon curse that sometimes turns him into a monster, and also about a million other things happen. Not finished yet, so I can't guarantee it won't end on a cliffhanger. Based on a game series I'm unfamiliar with, and unfortunately, unlike Arcane (which I would whole-heartedly recommend, it just currently left off on a cliffhanger) it doesn't really seem to know how to stand on its own without the game lore. It jumps around a lot between a huge number of characters, and a lot of the time it's not clear why we're watching what we're watching. I do like the parts of it I've seen! I just haven't been able to stick with it because it feels so scattered.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Tumblr media
An anime based in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, which is in turn basically just Shadowrun with none of the interesting fantasy elements. A gritty and unpleasant universe where everyone is a jerk, everyone is very narratively disposable and only bad things happen. Seems to have nothing an audience is supposed to get invested in - it gives us a colorful squad of found-family types but covers the entire friend-making in a dialogue-free montage and then kills all of them in like two episodes, it gives us a romance but undercuts it with a timeskip covering the actual getting-together part, it seems to have a theme about how believing you're special is bad but it also demonstrates at several points that the hero actually is kinda special, it has an extremely solid anticapitalist theme but because it's a cyberpunk dystopia nightmare there's nothing any of the main characters can actually do about any of it, etc. I watched it all in one go and the whole thing slid out of my head right after. Also this is a niche complaint but the use of futuristic cyberpunk slang nonstop in the dialogue might really grate on you. The animation is very nice, though.
Tales of Arcadia (Trollhunters, 3 Below, Wizards)
Tumblr media
Urban fantasy series made in large part by Guillermo Del Toro, featuring a whole bunch of characters doing assorted fun things - some chosen by magical artifacts, some alien royalty on the run from a civil war, one the apparently-immortal apprentice of Merlin, etc. I whole-heartedly recommend all three of these shows! I do not recommend the grand finale movie, which feels like it was written by someone who read the script notes for the previous shows and nothing else. Ends with a timeline reset that completely undoes the entire timeline of the series. Because it ends with a retcon, the movie feels comfortable killing characters pointlessly and letting our heroes act totally out of character whenever convenient. A bafflingly terrible ending for a series I otherwise really, really liked.

Hello Bri,
I'm cha-cha sliding into your inbox on this fine Friday evening to please request for the fic ask game:
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing; you can also answer both if you like, of course)?
K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?
Thank you & have a wonderful weekend! <3
H, J! I hope you had a good weekend! <333
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing; you can also answer both if you like, of course)?
This is such a hard question because I read any and everything so I'm not sure what would qualify as a guilty pleasure for me. In terms of writing I think I've said Age Difference before, if only because I've written it wayyy too many times so I feel like such a broken record. But it adds so much to the dynamic!!! How can I resist!!!
K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
So I can never really read an eg compliant or even post eg canon divergence fic because I can never buy Steve "staying in the past" or Bucky and Sam thinking he did.
But... I have had this idea floating around in mind where Steve comes back much later than planned and is extremely hurt that no one came for him. Basically it's a fic about Steve's faith in his friends being really shaken and their friendship essentially being irreparable.
Or I guess it'd be repaired somehow but it's definitely never going to be what it was. It reopens old wounds, brings up growing resentments, recontextualizes friendships so far, and explores the breaking point of what used to be relationships based a lot on loyalty.
N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?
Ooh I'm sure there are tons. But there's this old idea I have of Steve & Bruce going off the grid and on a road trip together post avengers (2012), and I want someone else to write it so I can read it. I'm never letting go of my Steve & Bruce friendship dreams.
Thanks for asking, J! Sorry this got so long!
let's exchange fic asks!

top 5 stranger things ships!!
Thanks for your question!
I always think so hard about this because I don't know if I have a Top 5 lol. I don't ship often, if I like the canon ship then I usually just support that and if it's a fan ship, it's generally because there was something in the movie/show... like Bamon lol.
But anyway:
Mileven- they're so cute and pure and I feel like they've done a good job at not only establishing them but having them go through some real problems that they always manage to find their way out of. Plus, I think Finn and Millie both do great jobs as Mike and El and have very nice chemistry. I can't wait to see them actually be together and not spend the entire season apart as we have in the past. They have some of my favorite scenes in the show, like their reunion in S2. They have so many great moments in S3, like in the sauna scene, how Mike catches her when she falls back into him (I loved that that wasn't scripted but they both kept going), the scene in the grocery store where he's trying to tell her he loves her, and in the cabin when she escapes from Billy's mindscape and he's right there... ugh, so pure.
Lumax- It would be a far margin between this couple and the first couple because it took me a long time to warm up to Max. But S4 really made me like Max and this couple. Not sure where we're going to going moving forward, but on subsequent rewatches, I like Lucas and Max's friendship and how while they're together, they have a different kind of friendship dynamic (especially because their personalities are so strong). I'm really rooting for them.
Jopper- I like them fine, I feel like this was set up from the jump because when I think it was Callahan said something about them hooking up in S1, it was already planted in my mind. S3 has them really being antagonistic towards each other but I like that Joyce doesn't back down from Hopper or anyone really. So sure.
Hellcheer/Eddissy- This is the only "fanship" on this list but I loved it. I really feel like Eddie and Chrissy were an extreme missed opportunity and I wish we got to see them interact more. That scene in the forest is such a masterclass at establishing and humanizing two characters who you think you have pegged from their first few scenes. The chemistry between them was palpable. Even if it didn't become romantic between them, I would have loved a strong platonic friendship too. His "Chrissy, this is for you", before his guitar solo also hit me because while I think he's crushed on her for a while, he's probably one of the few people who viewed her as a person and wanted to avenge her as a person, not just as a crush. Love them so much.
lol I don't really have a 5th one lol

Wednesday Reading Meme for 10-26-22
What I've Read - Omega Required - Dessa Lux (aka, fanfic writer Dira Sudis) - Werewolf Omegaverse m/m arranged marriage romance novel- I bought this in 2018, read 25% of it and then never picked it up again, because I am a fool. I finished it this week and I found the main couple really quite charming.  Beau wants to be a werewolf doctor to humans, Rory ran away from home at 16 with an older man who promised to take good care of him and has some major trauma around sex. It's careful to show Rory's recovery, tho it's a romance novel so he's improving on a pretty brisk pace. Beau is used taking care of only himself and not asking for help so he makes some fairly stupid (but very in-character!) mistakes around his new job. The resolution is sweet and generally hits the points that think a thoughtful romance ought to. I am probably going to read other things Dira has written - this series has a couple of other books, and this is hitting a self-indulgent spot for me. Good world building around how werewolves would function in the open in the modern world.
Wife to the Marines: A Military Reverse Harem Romance by Krista Wolf (reverse harem het romance, straight woman with three straight men) - Well, this book had some great elements? The sex was fun, the character dynamics were a bit spare (perfectly fine for this genre) but what was there felt engaging, the plot was brisk and both acknowledged the silly elements but made them feel emotionally true to the female lead's internal life. I finished it and at the low price of $1, I feel like I got my money's worth. I have definitely paid more for worse.
But, oh man, I am too queer for this book. I am just too dang queer for this book. I literally picked this up because I was curious about the reverse harem romance sub-genre (aka, straight woman with multiple male partners, yay!) and wow, this is just - like, do gay people exist in this world? Do ace people? Polyamory is briefly mentioned but not actually engaged with at all, so functionally, nah. Because I just cannot imagine a world where queer people exist and these men are making the life choices they are making about committed relationships to other men, and having sex with the same woman in a committed relationship, and then like, just not talking about the fact that you are in a queer poly relationship. It's just, like, the most hetero and monogamous take possible on a very queer, very poly relationship. It's almost as if it's a het romance where the dude just happens to have three bodies? It's so fucking weird to see a book go so far out of its way to frame this as hetero brothers-in-arms who love each other? Like, the intense military friendship that is actually a romance in disguise is literally a gay cliche - this one is ours, straight people.
Also, massive trigger warnings for eating disorders shit (the woman is a trainer and runs a youtube channel where she makes "health food" recipes, constantly breaks food into good or bad categories, calorie counting, talks in detail about the weight loss plans of her clients, none of it needed) and also, uh, military kink?  using the American invasion of Afghanistan as a neutral-to-justified backdrop for a personal vendetta? (Dudes, is it gay to avenge the death of your boyfriend's brother under the cover of a legitimate Marine mission while you lie to him and keep him out of the loop, safe at home with your other shared boyfriend and girlfriend?) This was a compellingly written novel full of sympathetic depictions of people who I would not ever want to have a drink with!
What I'm Reading
A Taste of Gold and Iron - Alexandra Rowland - A re-read for my book club. So sweet, so queer, so fun. Deeply good worldbuilding.
Thrawn: Treason - Timothy Zahn - Getting fun and brisk with this one! 55% in.  Hunting Towards Heartstill - Blackkat - Star Wars Clone Wars Cartoon au - marriage of convenience, fake marriage, Mace Windu/Cody - Slowing down because we're crash landed on an abandoned Sith planet and I'm watching Mace be annoyed at Anakin and, well, he's very annoying! I'm going to try and buckle down and get some more under my belt so that I can actually just get past this part. I got stuck here last time too.
Stay With Me, Go Places - cac0daemonia-  https://archiveofourown.org/works/39540420 - "After months of living a quiet, peaceful life on Ryloth, Waxer and Boil must don their armor again. What begins as a rescue operation in conjunction with a bounty hunter becomes a journey that the Force itself seems to have a hand in." - I am really enjoying this ongoing series, the Reconstruction Corps AU, which posits that a fairly minor change in the Clone Wars plot around the clones control chips allowed the Jedi to stop Darth Sideous and save the galaxy and allow clones like Waxer and Boil to retire to little backwaters and build themselves a community.
What I'll Read Next

Bought it since we're probably splitting it up over six weeks Library books: Our Wives Under the Sea - Julia Armfield Maul: Lockdown - Joe Schreiber  The Whale Rider -Witi Ihimaera  Tiger's Daughter - K Arsenault Rivera  Riot Baby - Rochi Onyeuchi The Silence of the Wilting Skin - Tlotlo Tsamaase  An Unkindness of Ghosts - Rivers Solomon
