Inomata’s Design Notes & Memories - Destiny Cast
Tumblr media
Some notes:
I’ve linked images of each thing she references below.
Unlike the first batch of Eternia characters I previously posted, these were in Japanese. And unlike the Destiny 2 ones I translated, she talks about her experiences with the characters in the game and not just her design processes!
The book in question is this one.
What I think about most when designing characters is their colors and the components to their look. The characters are displayed as such small sprites, so in order to be able to differentiate them from each other, I give each of them a specific color palette and unique accessories to each of their outfits.
Stahn’s thing was his scarf. I also made sure his shoulder pads, gloves, and boots looked huge.
Rutee is supposed to be a thief, so I made her look a bit like a ninja. I didn’t want her to look too girly, so I gave her shorts and exposed her navel. For colors I went with red and black, since that’s a distinctive palette. Whenever I’d do boss battles, she’d always be joyfully picking 2 gald off the ground instead of healing my very low HP characters (laughs). I thought about removing her from my party to prevent this, but then I’d feel bad, and it just made me think “this is all part of her plot” (laughs).
Philia is a priestess through and through. I went for white and green to give her an earthly feel (laughs). Her glasses and braids were a strong request from Namco. I came up with designs for her, but they didn’t have the glasses or braids, so they were repurposed for the priests in Straylize Temple. It was the basis for Philia’s design as well as Elraine’s in the sequel. Philia has her eye on Stahn, but he eats too much and he oversleeps. I feel like they’d work out better if Philia was more the assertive type herself (laughs).
Woodrow is an archetypical handsome man, so I didn’t have much to stress about when designing him. He’s a king, so I wished he had a stronger atmosphere behind him. I almost never used him when playing the game though (laughs). When you break into Dycroft, I thought, “it’d be really cool in a narrative sense to use him here, but he’s just so weak”. But you get special dialogue if you take him along, so I went “tsk” and brought him anyway. “Just stick to the backlines and don’t die” (laughs).
Leon’s really easy to draw, so again I didn’t have much to stress about when drawing him. He has a princely vibe to him, so I gave him white tights, but everyone was taken back by it! I thought, “is it that weird?” and ended up making them less tight fitting (laughs). He acts a bit snobbish, gets seasick easily and refuses to eat vegetables, so he really crosses off a lot on the “young master” list. He’s also really fun to use in battle (laughs). He has a really low defense stat but he hits fast, so it’s crucial that you string your combos together. When paired with Stahn, if you can isolate your bosses in the far side of the screen, they go down quite fast. Then I see the popup that Rutee’s picking gald off the floor again and I just use healing items on him (laughs).
I wanted to make Chelsea cute and small, so I based her image off of little birds. I gave her a palette of pink, green and blue, and made her hair look like a cockatoo or parrot. Her bloomers look like a paper lantern and I find them quite cute (laughs). Her life story makes me want to cry though. She’s fine and all in the first game, but in the sequel, she’s still wearing those bloomers from when she was a kid, living all alone on a snowy mountain. And if you go through her drawers, you can take something that Woodrow gave to her. I felt so bad, I thought “even though it’s so out of the way, I’ll go buy all the items you need!” (laughs). Then she makes all of these bows for you, but by then, I’d already enhanced my weapons a lot… But I felt so bad that I never Refined them and thought, “I’ll keep these on me forever” (laughs).
Johnny’s original idea was “troubadour,” but as the story progressed and I gave him his hat and all sorts of plumes, he came out a bit comical (laughs). He’s a really fun character to have in your party though, and I fell in love with him right away. I love that his tone-deafness does physical damage to the enemies (laughs).
With the Swordians, they have the will of humans and I wanted to incorporate that into their designs, but it didn’t seem to fit so I went for something more inorganic. Berselius alone has a creepy aura to him, and when Destiny 2 came around I thought “But his owner is such a nice person! Is it really okay for him to have such a creepy design?” but then I thought well, maybe Harold just likes things that way (laughs).

So…. Glitz and Glam huh… y’know what that means my fellow artists and critics…
Tumblr media
REDESIGN TIME!!!! + (A bit of critics/opinions on the characters and the og design :-] )
To start it out a lil’ positive, If I gotta be honest I actually kinda liked these two characters from the mid-season special, even though they were just the bitchy woman character your supposed to hate (as if we needed any more of those characters than we already got viv), they were still really fun as characters in my opinion!
I feel like bitchy esc kind of character very much works for these two coupled with them being very competitive towards fizz in the episode, I feel like those two things were like the bread and butter for these characters and if I wanna be honest… I kinda wanna see these two again but wouldn’t be surprised if that didn’t happened bc c’mon this helluva boss we’re talking about after all!
The only thing I would have to say negatively about these two is that they literally got crushed by a rock in the end, like I get it viv hates writing characters who are woman but COME ONNN, you had these two characters that seem really interesting and the only climax you could’a think for them in the ep was to crush them with a rock? That’s literally lame.
But other than that, I think overall these characters were alright! At least writing wise….
Now for the redesign + critic thing on the og designs
Tumblr media
I decided to change her outfit bc although I loved the character’s personality, the outfit viv gave them not fit them at all. The jester esc outfit personally I think doesn’t really work for these two because 1. The jester theme Fizzarolli’s thing and 2. It doesn’t really work well with their personality, the song they sang in my opinion shows that.
So I thought I’d base their outfits off of the bratz outfits and also any outfits similar to that, to try to fit their characters more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That and I’m just getting real sick and tired of the jester/clown theming that’s going on in hb because oh my god it feels so out of place, especially with the theme of greed ring being a trashy polluted city. And even if, EVEN IF viv wanted to give them clown esc themed outfits, I feel like it would’ve made more sense if she gave them outfit that were similar to mimes because technically those guys are like elegant clowns! While jesters aren’t even the same as clowns at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also kept the green ish’ tones while also giving them a bit off red and purple colors to compliment the identical twin duo thing they have going on! Because like… do I even have to say why I did it? Their colors are literally just black and the same exact hues of green, it was literally hard to focus on them when watching the episode because of much they blended in with the background.
I also took inspiration from this fish when designing them because from as far as I can tell (and do correct if I’m wrong), they’re supposed to be fish demons??? So I tried to add more fish motifs for them!
Tumblr media
I also made them half succubus from the horns looking similar to that and also because I thought it’d be fitting for them!
I also made their hair look like fish fins because oh my god their hair in the canon design was probably the worst part about their designs, not only did it have too many details that it was too distracting when I was trying to pay attention to the characters but also I just trying to figure out how the hair works in general, because it honestly their hair kinda looked like paper instead of fish fins or even actual hair.
But other than that uhh…
TLDR: I love these guys sm, they deserved much better and uhhh I love women /hj

We interrupt this break and fnaf posting to bring you Hazbin redesigns/rewrites!
Disclaimer: Do not support the show or Viz in any way. I normally don’t recommend this, but if you want to watch it “do what you want cause a pirate is free!” I am simply making these redesign/rewrites for fun and cause this show has made me kinda mad. It’s also so easily addictive to redesign/rewrite em.
Tumblr media
His colors aren’t that bad in the original design. It’s about 5 colors that all pop from the main pallet of hell and main cast. Although they are oversaturated to the point where your eye is mainly drawn to his wings, especially in a full body shot. So I toned down the colors and made the feathers on his head that same blue to make it stand out. Also changed his halo to a nimbus to accentuate his heavily status, and to make sure the eye goes to the face first.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I added more bird motifs into his design to make him more visually distinct from the traditional demon designs from hell. So he will not only stand out due to the bright yellows and blues in the design, but also in silhouette.
I don’t really understand the point of making him look like a demon. I get that it may be irony? Although, the audience is gonna immediately know that “hey maybe this guy isn’t as angelic as we thought” especially if you show it through actions and use of language. And I don’t mean having him cuss every five seconds. Making him look less demonic also adds to a bit of “temporary deception.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Made the rock influences stand out more in the design. On the one hand there’s giving him a full on leather jacket, or giving him 80’s or 90’s punk/hair band outfits. On the other, there’s giving him a leather jacket, wrist spike bracelets, and 80’s hair over his more traditional robes just to show that dissonance. Cause heaven probably wouldn’t like rock in the cliched way, and it’d be funny to show it.
Might just end up giving him two designs.
Bird wants to listen to AC/DC but god says no.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there’s how I would change his character. There wasn’t really a strong enough impression of a character in the show, although to be fair they were juggling way too many ideas and characters and kinda ended up fumbling all of them but I digress.
Here’s a rough idea of how I would change his character- heaven’s idolization and disdain of him leads him to devolve into toxic masculinity. Because of this, he ruins every relationship has and leads to him seeing his own interests as having little value. Despite this he’s just a band nerd deep down.
Essentially just listen to Colossus by Idles, and you’ll get the idea.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

hi y’all you remember those tma flight rising fandragons i posted a few months ago? Well theres more- and i need your help to pick out the final fandragon for the original series ^^
Mild spoilers ahead
Nikola- i skried out them Ages ago and i had been searching for their specific color way for Months and months. I’m Very pleased with their genes and outfit. I thought jester gave a wonderful circus tent look, seeing them without their outfit is also quite neat because the Poison gene makes them look like they are smiling a big empty grin. I gave them soap as their final gene because it reminded me of the hard plastic they’re made of And it made them look like they have a clown nose
Tumblr media
Jude perry- I wanted her to reference a moth to a flame and burning from the inside out. I tried some different colors and genes but eventually settled on this (i think she matches my agnes really well)
Tumblr media
Andre ramos (homophobic vase guy)- i wanted him to look like shattered pottery as if he tried to smash that vase to get his husband back. Just because i thought it’d be fun visually<3 he’s such a fun character i just needed to have one of my own
Tumblr media
Breekon and hope- i really wish there were burlier twin headed dragons but i’ll just have to cope with what aberrations give me</3 i gave him the primary gene wasp to look like a mannequin and patchwork to match nikola and the dark circus theme. Waiting for this color way took Ages too
Tumblr media
Jordan Kennedy (exterminator ant guy)- he’s been one of my favorite reoccurring characters in the series i really really hope he shows up in protocol. It took like- 6 separate dragons and 2 months of breeding to get his specific colors with the plague eye type.
Tumblr media
Georgie Barker- i thought she deserved some mice and her cat the admiral sitting on her shoulder i’m so happy with her colors and her outfit she Looks like a silly little ghost hunting podcaster. I gave her ghost as a tertiary gene to reference her affiliations with the end
Tumblr media
Adelard dekker- i’m still working on his outfit (i just cant find anything i think looks good both with his colors and salvaging his “coated in concrete” look but i figured i’d show him off anyways cause he’s Severely under appreciated.
Tumblr media
Now heres where i need your help- what should be the final character in my original series to fill in this missing spot? I wont be doing anything from protocol yet because i want to see more of the series play out before i make them fandragons (i might make an exception for mr bozo tho- bro has a cannon design which should be pretty easy to make)

Cleo De Nile you’re so beguile, even though you act so vile~!
Cleo has always had elements that, bug me. I love her character, but, some her design choices were, um… choices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just like every other G1 post, this is not a dig towards or in reference to G3. I do t want to hear anything negative about G3, this is not the place. Go comment on official monster high posts and leave us artists alone.
This one was both very fun and also very stressful for me. I always get stressed designing cultural characters, I don’t wanna be that asshole who makes something stereotypical and offensive. If I’ve done anything wrong please do let me know, I am always open to nicely worded criticism! That being said, onto my usual design ramblings.
You’ll notice pretty quickly I ended up redesigning her outfit again, that was because she didn’t look rich or mummy enough in my original, in my opinion.
You’ll also probably notice that Cleo’s skintone has changed. I have never been a fan of people designing every ancient Egyptian as a light skinned, especially the girls. Egyptians lived in Africa, and if you look at their hieroglyphics, a lot of them were dark skinned. That’s not to say they were all dark skinned but it’s very annoying that almost every depiction of Egyptians, especially girls, are light skinned. Other than that, i changed her eye color to a golden brown because the blue really bugged me for like no reason. Her hair stayed roughly the same I just made it longer. I also gave her mummy wrapping around her eye, because I thought it’d be cool.
As for her outfit, I really struggled initially, but the second one turned out really cute. I changed the golden strand to golden braids, and gave her the mummy wrapping jumper back, just in shorts form this time. I added more jewelry and did my best to make it apparent that she is rich with all the gold. I tried to keep the blue minimal while still giving it a chance to shine. Over all this second design is very cute and I am very proud of myself.

what are your thoughts on fontaine so far?
Oh hello! As someone who’s been gathering information from fan posts only and not the actual game (I think if I do play I’ll just play GI for the scenery and not the quests since it feels better than way. Something about burnout and wondering what kind of game actually intrigues me. Anyway)—
(Slight 4.0 spoilers…??? Mostly rambling about character design)
Fontaine sounds interesting. Well, I find it easier to let trailers/characters/quests sit for at least some time when it comes to new region and cast releases. Trying to see what makes me happy instead of just following the hype.
I feel kinda like a bard getting stories from other travelers, haha..
Seems Tartaglia got into another order-loving region’s trouble. I saw the cutscene where he starts to transform but Neuvillette interrupts him and he just kinda lies on the floor when the dust clears. Amazing
I wanna see Neuvillette cry even more. I wanna see him break down or something. It’s always fun to see a usually serious/stoic (?) character be vulnerable. Also Furina and Neuvillette’s dynamic seem interesting… It’s been compared to Hu Tao and Zhongli it seems? Blue/white vs red/black parallels…
Furina looks cute! I like the layers and shades of blue! Feel like she could use some longer pants. She’s got the💧 droplet shape all over her outfit and even in her eyes. Very nice motif. I love symbolic designs… Also I love how her eyelashes are stylized.
I’ve read that Focalors’ name in the English dub is pronounced closer to the French way of Foçalors (FOH-sa-lor) despite not having the “ç” (c cédille, or so a search tells me) in the official spelling. That’s like seeing “Français” be written as “Francais” (“Fran-KEH”) but still pronounced “Fran-SEH”, haha
Edit: Focalors’ name is from the Latin name Focalor from the Ars Goetia, so it would be pronounced with a /k/ in English after all. Though in the French version of the game it’s written as Foçalors which would make it with a /s/ in French.
Neuvillette seems to have a slight ⚖️ scale motif mixed with the French fleur-de-lis ⚜️ upside down… (Not visible in this visual but it’s the ends of his blue lapels.) Very cool detail for the Chief Justice of Fontaine. Probably had the same tailor as Dainsleif. Also I thought that he’s got similar motifs to Song of Broken Pines lmao. I like the feather in his hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Come to think of it before 4.0 I’ve always imagined Focalors to be a mature woman (Hydro Ningguang or something) and didn’t expect Furina and Neuvillette at all… No, actually, when his visual released, I thought it’d be really cool if Neuvillette was a woman (while having the exact same design as canon) who’s actually Focalors, haha. Handsome long-haired women in suits and fancy layers… hehe.
Since Neuvillette’s character intro card lists “??? - Hydro” initially I thought he was the actual archon working behind the scenes and Furina was like, a decoy archon at the front. From the 3.8 event I had the impression that optical illusion is a motif for Fontaine, haha. It would’ve been interesting if the God of Justice is using a decoy to deceive people, I felt. Something like an AU where Chief Justice Neuvillette is all about justice and law but has a soft spot for and tolerates Furina. And everyone thinks Furina is the Hydro Archon but actually she’s just an assistant (? Right hand woman?) and Neuvilette is the actual Hydro Archon— wait is that kinda like Arlecchino with Lyney & Lynette hahaha. Anyway—
Speaking of cool lady, Clorinde looks really handsome. The wispy hair, the sharp hat, the cold look— To me she feels like… I dunno, a combination of Furina and Neuvillette hahaha. Apparently she’s the body guard of Furina? I wonder how it’d be if Clorinde and Furina swapped clothes…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…Come to think of it, out of Furina, Clorinde, Arlecchino, Lynnette, Charlotte, and Navia, it’s only the last two that have their shoulders not covered by clothing, huh? Lynnette’s design with the black/white/teal colour scheme is refreshingly simple for a Genshin character… It’s nice.
TL;DR: apparently (one of) my type(s) of character design is just androgynous women in fancy long-sleeved jackets and long pants, a hat/other distinctive head-area decoration, with symbolic motifs and long ribbons/capes, black/navy and white base with bright blue and gold accents… Light/dark contrast between hair/face area and top-half clothing colour… (E.g. Furina with a white outfit, or dark-skinned Clorinde with a black/navy outfit wouldn’t look as distinctive to me.)
…That’s basically Eula isn’t it. Eula looks really pretty but I think she’d look better with long pants and not the belts/harnesses. Also, personally I feel the right side of her lapel and her cape doesn’t read very clearly. There’s too much going on near her upper torso (similar shapes to Kaeya). She’d look even better if her lapels are sleeker and the excessive details overall are toned down. Mmm, actually— Now that I’ve finally read her entire character story for the first time (I want to cry because of how the symbols tie into her story and personality well), I think it’d be nice if the glacier vs spindrift idea is more present in her outfit, with some dance motifs… A beautiful and proud blade that shimmers above the waves, twirling amidst the candles’ glow…

Misc assortment of OC doodles from recently that I had no idea how to post individually so I’ll just compile them :p feat previously shown family members+Tiziri in some outfits besides her Eremite one, and also me attempting to design Itto’s parents coz why not
More info+rambling under the cut
Aight SO,
Tiziri’s the Eremite lady that Tesey’s head over heels for and can’t blame him, she’s very charming, very competent, and won’t hesitate to call him out lol. She’s also the current successor in place for the matriarch (Tizemt) of her adoptive tribe (the Ifri, named after the goddess not the demons lol). They don’t exist in lore since the other two main GoF worshipping tribes don’t really fit the area of influence I wanted to use and Tanit were also a definite no go so instead, the Ifri are a smaller tribe that had branched off from the Tanit but under their current matriarch, have been slowly trying to make themselves more self sufficient and independent, with Tiziri being taken in by them as a child. after they took down the raiding party which had targeted her original tribe and family.
As of current game events, Tesey had been trying to collaborate with the Ifri with textile trading since he believed their work could sell really well in a more international market, so Tiziri’s been assigned to keep an eye on him and also just get a grasp of what kind of a person he is before letting him into their territory and all that (luckily for him he’s long passed the vibe check but after Fontaine’s AQ he had to make an emergency trip back to Morepesok).
Anyways I thought it’d be fun to draw her in a modern Moroccan caftan, but also a Ukrainian folk outfit since she does eventually make a trip over to Morepesok to visit Tesey’s family when they get together. Anyways like Kirena, Tonia and their mother, Oksana (I’ll post their design eventually wsojcndwoc), I’ve based it off outfits from the Luhansk area (go check out these blogposts for references I used for the embroidery it’s such a life saver, but yeah their mum’s side would be from the Donbas irl, dad’s from Zaporizhzhia). Jewellery’s primarily based off Amazigh jewellery from southern Morocco, as well as some Tuareg ones and also a few strings of Ukrainian korali ehe (they’re a gift from Tesey later on as a sign of his intent to take things more seriously and his sincerity). I tried my best with the tattoos since I didn’t want to just trace someone else’s given how personal they are but if anyone has any sources on Moroccan Amazigh tattoos please let me know 🙇🏻‍♀️
-
Next bit is just me realising that a good chunk of my labelled OCs (most aren’t) happen to be aspec, which I find absolutely hilarious (fyi I’m ace myself so this isn’t malicious I just think it’s funny how it keeps happening). Kageharu and Mingli are probs also some flavour of aro but I haven’t figured it out yet so they just have their ace labels for now
-
And, finally, Arataki Natsuki (荒瀧凪月) and Arataki Takenosuke (荒瀧岳之輔). Apparently I felt like revisiting old ideas from 2021 again weciswnjdsq, but still was fun to do. I’m aware it’s more likely Itto’s mother was also an oni (judging by his troubles voiceline regarding Granny Oni) but I thought it’d be interesting to explore what it could be like for humans given how prevalent oni discrimination is, both towards them but also towards humans who are close to them (again: see the voiceline on Granny Oni), as well as people learning to look past assumptions and all that fun stuff. They could’ve lived out a nice cottagecore life with their son if it weren’t for those damned robberies they got blamed for smh
Tumblr media
Bonus concept portrait of Natsuki while I’m at it. Tbh one of my biggest pet peeves in designing related characters is making any character too similar to whichever canon character they’re related too and I just really wanted to show that yes, Itto does have quite a few of his mother’s features. It’d be more helpful if I actually drew him to compare ofc, but motivation do be funky like that and my brain wants me to draw Oksana next 😔

New character inspired by @8_jmal_8’s #monstersonachallenge. And yes, I’ve reverted to my 10 year old self and dove head first back into my Monster High obsession. I got the mummy and I thought that was really fun because I love Egyptian mythology and ancient Egyptian culture. I mean, they invented makeup and architecture. I’m not big on “sonas” and prefer to make OCs rather than representations of myself, but I did take some inspiration from myself for the character. For example, the blonde hair and blue eyes. An Egyptian wouldn’t actually have blonde hair.
This is actually the first thing I felt super inspired to draw in quite a while and I maybe put too much thought into it. I’ve been following more MH fan artists lately and a lot of them have been redesigning the mummies and calling for the mummy characters to have more spooky appearances. I mean Cleo mostly just looks like a beautiful Egyptian girl. Where’s the mummy part of it? So I decided to play more into it. I also did some research and discovered that there were 3 kinds of mummification based on how much money you had access to. So I thought maybe Neith was poorer and got the cheapest mummification, so she maybe wasn’t as well preserved as the DeNiles. Her eyes have completely decayed away and she has glowing blue orbs in her empty eye sockets. Her skin is very dry and she has to moisturize a lot. I also thought it’d be fun to have her have some bandages that are keeping her lower jaw attached to the rest of her skull and kinda also made that look like a headband. I also wanted her to wear an ankh, the Egyptian symbol for life, just cuz I thought that’d be wonderfully ironic.  I started out designing a more historically accurate ancient Egyptian outfit, but it just wasn’t spooky enough and also was too far off from me. So I decided to combine gothic/alt fashion with the mummy fashion and I actually love how those mixed together. I also gave her a mummified cat. Cats were sacred to the Egyptians and they often mummified animals as well as humans, as mummification allowed one to move on to the next life.

4. How did you find the name for a certain character?
I have the same process pretty much all the time I feel bad bc this is such a fun question or it would be 😞 no ones named after anyone or like has their name chosen based on the meaning actively I just like look up names for the place and time period and pick whichever I think fit the character or I already have a name in mind when I make them. I’m like wondering if there were any exceptions. Oh I did want my character Adam’s name to sound like a pseudonym instead of a regular name right bc he’s an SCP agent type like mysterious or whatever. So I used a stage name generator to find out his last name (Adam I just liked how it sounded + the fact that it was biblical). I also like the last name King bc he is also in a position of authority over the other characters at times so it makes sense I guess.
14.Which OC/s do you relate to the most?
Kind of embarrassing to answer lol like this has to be at least a little personal. I like actively try to make OCs different from myself so I’m not just projecting onto them yk. Like that would be first of all embarrassing LMAO but second of all it it wouldn’t be very interesting to explore I feel like. In my opinion it’s better to start with something you can understand, but like have layers of complexity that you don’t relate to at all or whatever. I don’t really know. But to answer the question I think I relate to like the 3 main OCs of Rocio Angel and Cirillo the most :P maybe Lucia as well.
23. Have you ever seen something/someone that looks like one of your characters IRL? What was it like?
I actually haven’t that I can remember like not particularly. I have seen some people sometime where I was like ok I should draw a character’s hair or eyes or etc more like them. Like bc I was trying to draw them a certain way but wasn’t 100 sure how but I’d see someone who looked like them irl and I was like ok ok like that. Ofc Ive seen people with some shared traits, but no one who really looked exactly the same, no one where like I was like omg it’s like seeing them irl yk.
In terms of seeing people irl that remind me of them though like vibes wise what I have seen is people whose clothing really reminded me of like certain characters. Like not that they would actually wear the same thing because I don’t live in a fantasy world in the 1940s but like that remind me of their personality like that they would wear it yk. One time I was like walking around in a city and saw like 10 people with really nice outfits trying to memorize them all to write them down and draw ocs in them later. I ended up doing one of them but I didn’t like how it turned out 😔
27. What's the nicest thing someone has ever said about an OC/OCs?
This question is so embarrassing I have to admit I remember specific nice things people have said about OCs. I do remember specific nice things people have said though. It is hard to pick like 1 nicest thing. You saying Rocio had autism swag is up there. My irl cousin said a bunch of REALLY nice stuff a while ago she likes reading so it was nice to see her reaction. But like every time anyone has said anything like they like a character’s personality or design or storyline or anything it’s really nice I definitely appreciate it and I will remember it forever <3
34. What scene that you've written/imagined is your favorite?
That’s a good question. I literally don’t know at all. Bc I don’t have like all the details down for most of the scenes I’m thinking so all the ones I’ve like thought abt vividly just have a cool visual to go with them and that’s abt it. That makes it sound shallow it’s not that it’s just like I like the emotion of the scene and the idea behind it but not really any of the specifics you know. So I feel like if I tried to pick one it wouldn’t be like a nuanced pick it wouldn’t be like because it develops the character in this way yk it’d be like bc it’s the climactic scene where this character almost dies and it’s so cool or something like that. Does that even make sense.
Ok time to actually answer the question. I wish I had thought of more scenes that like show the dynamics between characters that I like bc my plan with that was to write it in wherever it felt intuitive yk. Like check up on the chastcters’ emotional states to see how they’re reacting to plot events. I just realized as writing this I think I want to have Tiago live for longer. Ok ignore that thats not important ummm I think the only scene I’ve really thought much about along those lines is the one where Cirillo and Laura meet again after a long time. I like the conflict there I like the characters a lot and I think it has the potential to be a very satisfying scene <3. Also maybe like denouement stuff where Rocio is like hi getting back from thr underworld was so annoying anyway sorry for almost ruining your lives and getting you killed. As you can see I haven’t really developed that part of the story yet but I think it’d be cool to see as well

This is a random sketch dump I did just for the fun of it. It's also the product of a creative itch I had after I created Emil. I didn't address this in this dump, but this is Emil's younger brother, Darren. People call him Daz for short. He's also an ogre-type monster like his older brother Emil, or as I'd like to call them now, "Melogdrians." Melogdrian is the name for the type of ogre race I came up with mainly for the shape of their heads, which look like ovals or huge melon fruits. If I had to guess, Emil's green oval head looks like a watermelon, while Daz's is shaped and colored similarly to the insides of a regular melon or cantaloupe. Daz also has lightning powers, which he controls easily with the volt pack on his harness to prevent it from going out of control, though if I ever make him a character in an original story, he'll probably learn how to control his powers with and without his volt pack. Nothing else is set in stone, and Daz's personality is subject to change. Again, this is just a simple random original character doodle I decided to do with no other clear goal in mind besides fleshing out his design. Thanks to this, I won't have to worry about forgetting his overall appearance anymore! I hope you enjoy this sketch dump as much as I enjoyed making it! ========== [Other Notes or Allusions] 1.) Daz's outfit is partially based off of the Medic from Team Fortress 2. 2.) I still consider Daz to be bald, but his hair strands are an allusion to Tommy Pickles from Rugrats. 3.) It's a longshot and pipe dream, but I always seem to picture Daz being voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. It'd be cool to hear him sound deep and nasally with the voice range of a fully grown Mayoi from the Big Hero 6 animated series. 4.) His helmet is a parody of Kamen Rider. 5.) Daz's rubber undersuit and boots are used as a means to avoid electrocuting himself while using his lightning powers. The undersuit design is based off of Pyro from Team Fortress 2. 6.) He also has an oxygen tank attached to his harness, which he can connect to his helmet so he can provide an air supply for himself in case he's in an area of high altitude where the air is thin. 7.) "Melogdrian" is a made-up term for Daz and Emil's race by combining the words 'melon' and 'ogre' together. ========== Please do not hesitate to leave your thoughts and critique in the comment section, as it really helps me think about and improve my style!

Here's Kayane of the Civilian AU!
Tumblr media
Aw, she’s pretty cute! I like the Miku-style detached sleeves, they’re a cute reference, and the emphasis on the Sakura blossom motif is cute too. I really like the transparent layer on her skirt! I’m a little curious to see how the “black light” phase is going to work since she’s already starting with dark colors. Maybe she becomes a blinding light, lol.
I also like the variations on the teams’ symbols/colors, so they’re still parallels, but still unique for the swaps. Very nice!
More thoughts under the cut since they got too long for the tags and I have some visual aids this time.
I knew that she’d be a mermaid from the silhouettes you sent in, but it’d also be cool to see a non-mermaid Kayane.
Fun Fact: Some of Sayu’s original concepts had her as a bunny themed idol. You can see some of this concept art on the wall during Sayu’s defeat cutscene.
Tumblr media
I think that mixing themes can work, but I’m having a hard time following the through line between “Sakura” and “mermaid.” The through line for Sakura seems to be the Japanese pop idol influences. As mentioned before, there are clearly Miku influences in the design and Sakura are associated with Japan first and foremost. And that’s all fine, I think that isolated, all those themes could make a very cute character design.
I guess what’s throwing me off is that *neither Kayane or Sayu are associated with Sakura, so the addition of it makes me want to see an even greater emphasis on it rather than it just be an “icon” on her outfit.
I think I’ve said this before, but when it comes to AUs, I like to see a focus on what makes the AU different from the original, so since the Sakura theme is unique, I would love to see it get pushed further.
I want to see “Kayane if she was a virtual idol like Sayu.” more than, “Kayane if she was Sayu.” I know those statements sound very similar, but there’s nuance that makes them different. The former is a deconstruction and reconstruction of the pieces of each character, and the latter is a fusion of both wholes. Neither is necessarily better than the other, and they both have their places and uses, but I have a preference for the former most of the time.
As a personal example, let’s look at my recent Kun3h0 x 1010 swaps.
Tumblr media
I would say that the first pass is closer is a “fusion” because it takes White and puts him Kun3h0′s outfit, just in his theme colors. There are some elements that changed to fit him: the belt accessory now resembles NJ’s screen instead of a rabbit, the heart motif was swapped for a star (I associate White with stars, but that isn’t a canon element), and the design on the boots changed from the speakers to more resemble the original pattern on the 1010s legs. And besides the outfit, there were some elements that were added/changed to keep Kun3h0′s elements from being completely erased: the skin turned pink because Kun3h0 has a human skin tone (and pink is a normal skin tone in the NSR universe) and his irises had to change from white to purple because the sclera aren’t black anymore.
The second pass first asks these questions: What makes a Kun3h0 unit a Kun3h0, and a 1010 a 1010? I decided that the most important parts of Kun3h0 were the rabbit-ear headphones, the boots, and the gloves, so those were going to stay no matter what. Instead of keeping the strict construction of the outfit, I kept the silhouette mostly the same. So he still has the crop top, the shorts, and the sleeves still taper outwards, but the design of the top was changed to be more sailor themed because a key-part of 1010s characterization is the sailor motif. To add onto that, a sailor hat was added to really push the sailor elements since a lot of the other iconography was dropped. The outfit colors were also kept monochrome and black was used in more places to better replicate the 1010′s original uniform.
To me, the fusion reads more as, “White in Kun3h0′s outfit.” while the deconstruction-reconstruction reads more as, “White if he were in the same series of robots as Kun3h0.” I don’t think either is significantly better or worse than the other, but there were different thought processes for both which came to different conclusions for the prompt, “Kun3h0 x 1010 swap”.
I hope that this explains and illustrates what I’m trying to get at.
I know that it would be kinda difficult to really “deconstruct” Kayane because her entire role/design revolves around her relation to 1010, so in an AU where she has nothing to do with them, it makes it a little harder to visually emphasize the things that originally characterized her. However, that being the case means that there’s actually more room to focus on new visual motifs like the Sakura to really make the design your own. You did it with Daphne & Jan with their new underwater motif, so I think you can do it here too.
Again, I really like the direction these are going, but I just know that they can be pushed so much further.
But I don’t always give the best advice, XP. They say that you know you have a good design not when you can’t add anymore, but when you can’t take anything else away, so me asking you to “push” the designs further might not be the best advice and shouldn’t be taken as an absolute. I can only tell ya what I want to see, not necessarily what’s the best choice.
*Strictly speaking, there is a canon flower!Sayu that appears on a poster in the Akasuka district. I find the design itself kinda underwhelming for a themed alt, (it’s no all pink Sakura!Miku), but I know it wasn’t made to stand out on its own: its function is to be a cute themed variation of the character, not totally reinvent her. It’s literally a little poster on the side of a wall that not everyone is even going to take the time to investigate, so I understand not wanting to spend too much time designing a more grandiose flower themed Sayu.

Kicking off my Pokemon Masters anniversary, I figured it'd be fun to redo my favorite sync pairs list.  I'll be picking top 25 again, just to keep the list consistent.  A lot has changed in six months, and this felt like fun.
The list is just for my favorites; the pairs I tend to gravitate toward whenever a challenge pops up, or I need to fill a niche.  Note that this isn't strictly about utility.   Despite having all the zone setters, not all of them made it in, despite using them constantly.  Favoritism tends to be more about the enjoyment of using the unit, which tends to be a matter of how much I like the character, how much I like the Pokemon, how much I like their particular combination, how much I like the outfit if it's an alt, and perhaps most critically, how much fun the unit is to use.
25) SS Erika - The God-Queen of damage herself, SS Erika is a pretty fun unit to use.  Last time I did this, she was a top 10 unit, and the fact she's dropped this much should probably tell you how good the new releases were.  SS Erika is primarily all about the damage numbers, but what I appreciate about her is that she's heavily focused on Sun, to the point that if she runs out, she's dead weight.  I feel like that's a fun tradeoff, and really pushes you to use her optimally rather than just mess around.  Also the outfit's cute, and I love that Leafeon gets to be good in this game.  I also think it's adorable that Erika got an Eevee because of the one you find in Celadon.  That's a cute nod.
24) Roxanne - Initially, I had thought about breaking down this list into favorite premium, and favorite commons, before realizing that...actually some of the commons are more fun than the 5* options, and we're doing this.  Roxanne is a genuinely fun common to use, especially since her grid.  Max special attack, max speed, and max defense were already great, but now we have Endure and special defense buffs to boot?  It's incredible.  She's so reliable, and one of the most fun to use.
23) Bertha - Bertha is on this list in part because she was one of my top two biggest hopes for the year in terms of additions.  She did get in, and with the ideal partner, doing the Sandstorm thing I'd hoped for.   Her kit's a lot of fun, and she has both impressive sync nuke damage, and impressive stall-focused damage through trap, sandstorm, and the new Stealth Rock.  All of this is really cool...but Bertha is held back by the fact that Stealth Rock sucks in this game. Every opponent has RF Damage Reduction 9.  Absolutely everyone just shaves 90% of the damage off.  It's absurd.  I don't know why they introduced a move for passive damage and then made its passive damage laughable, but here we are I suppose.  What should've been a huge triumph for stall-focused teams instead is just...standard.  While I still love the Ground-type damage and the concept behind her, it's hard to put her any higher than this, and I expect she'll fall off this list in six months when I do it again.
22) Classic Elesa - Classic Elesa remains one of my sleeper picks.  I really like her ability to spread paralysis and debuff reliably...but honestly, she doesn't see as much play as you'd expect for a unit of her talents.  Classic Elesa has utility against some Gauntlet matches, and can facilitate amazing units like Champion Iris, SS Cyrus, and now SS Lyra.  But outside of that?  Often her utility isn't as valued.  She's not the kind that can be applied to any team and meet with success.   She's an interesting utility option that's great to pull out for specific roles, but isn't quite hitting that level of supreme utility that sets her apart.
21) Palentine's Dawn - Palentine's Dawn is a great combo.  I love Alcremie, I really like this Dawn's design, and I love me some debuffers.  But...yeah, time has taken a bit of a bat to her.  The debuffs are still great, especially in Gauntlet, but in CS?  Ripple Effect 4 shows its age.  Still, Gauntlet being a major focus, she maintain relevance because of her -2 per action effect.  While others have more wide-spread debuffs in a single action, Dawn maintains a solid niche for bottoming out special defense in only three turns, while having attack debuffs and good spread effects, and a decent defensive profile.  And she can buff!  It's easy to forget, but her trainer move buffs both offenses, and even adds Gradual Healing!   Those are a strong set of effects for a single unit that allow her to maintain relevance.
20) Jasmine - Jasmine has taken over Sabrina's old role as my favorite gym leader, and arguably my favorite character in Pokemon.  So it probably makes sense that I really enjoy using her whenever possible.  That said, as a supporter, she's far from top tier, offering very little in the way of stat boosts.  What makes Jasmine amazing, however, is her utility in every other regard.  Defensive bonuses aren't much, but blocking all crits and stat debuffs for the team is really great for Gauntlet, Recuperation is huge for stall teams and, again, Gauntlet matches where her allies don't need sync, and most impressively?  She can deal damage.  Iron Tail is a legitimate offensive strategy with Palentine's Marnie at her side.  Jasmine is such an awkward unit, with a ton of noticeable flaws, who somehow just keeps maintaining relevance.  I love her.
19) Cheryl - This is the other common I love.  Cheryl is unreal to me.  Like, this almost background character, with barely any presence, somehow got into the game early as a common. And somehow, when commons started getting grids, she got what is still arguably the best one.  Her buffs are great, repeated healing that boosts both defenses, built-in Vigilance.  Cheryl does so much, and is so routinely useful it's absurd.  Which is great for me, because I've always liked Cheryl.  She was my favorite partner in Platinum.  I think her design is adorable, and I love that her focus was on big HP sponges for a team.  I really liked Cheryl, and it's always exciting to see her actually perform.
18) Lucian - If there is any unit that absolutely nuked Palentine's Dawn's function, it's Lucian.   Growl is ridiculous.  One-gauge spam that debuffs attack and special defense -1, and hits the whole opposing team.  In CS matches, Lucian may not debuff as quickly, but in six turns he's guaranteed to have everyone at -6, while Dawn has to keep rolling 50% chances to do the same. While he can't buff allies or apply gradual healing like Dawn does, the tradeoff is that he has an absolute insane sync nuke, and much, much better gauge control.  Which is a net benefit.  Lucian surprises me.  I had expected to always gravitate toward Bertha, but his skillset is absolutely insane.  He's even wormed his way into Battle Villa, thanks to how well he combos with SS Kris and SS Ethan.
17) SS Serena - We are now entering the phase of really good alt designs. Starting off this phase is SS Serena, whose design I absolutely love.  This is such a cute outfit, and honestly one of my favorites.  Buuuut...look, I can't get as excited as everyone else.  I recognize she's good, but she is, ultimately, just big dumb damage numbers.  And big dumb damage numbers only get you so far. The dragon thing still bothers me.  I'm kinda thrown that they used it here instead of the villain arc.  I don't really love the design of Zygarde complete.  I don't like the shorter hair as much as her long hair.   There are things that hold it back.  But it is a strong pick, even if it's not the most exciting option.
16) Palentine's Serena - Apparently it's just a day for me dunking on Serena a little bit.  I do like Serena, and I actually love her Palentine's outfit.  I love Whimsicott, I think it's great.  I really like how much she can provide, with paralysis, speed boosts, speed debuffs, and a good combination of move and sync damage.  But kinda like Classic Elesa, she just never really stands out quite as much as higher placements.  Her utility is great, but she's heavily reliant on support to get her main offensive role moving.  And being reliant on both special attack and crit buffs is...a rough time indeed.
15) Knight Diantha - This alt is so good.  Like yeah, okay, it's good because of the sync nuke, and the absurd power of her Secret Sword.  But I feel like the debuff to three stats goes under-appreciated.  Not to mention just how good the design is.  Her knight outfit is fantastic, and really fits her well.  Add to it, she covers the Fighting type, which otherwise has like zero options I significantly appreciate using.
14) Anniversary May - I love the outfit, especially the EX colors.  I love Latias.  I think this was a great decision for a partnership.  And then there's the battle role. Can set Psychic Terrain, has a good base damage move that always debuffs foe's special attack, and can buff the entire team's special attack.  Anni May is really good, and fills a lot of different utility niches, alongside a good sync nuke and move damage.
13) Sygna Suit Lusamine - She looks so good!  It's so good!  I love this outfit, I love the design, I love her hair.  I do not love Necrozma.   They chose the superior Dusk Mane, but its true form just looks...not ideal.  And to be perfectly honest, I feel like a huge hindrance for SS Lusamine has been how hard they locked her in to super-effective damage.  Like yeah okay, great, she has all this raw power for on-type, and off-type none of it is present.  And while her trainer move sets up offenses well, it also cuts her speed by 1, which is a huge pain for gauge control.  Don't get me wrong, she's still a force, but notably less of one. Which has been a huge drawback in terms of Gauntlet.  The support she often needs to succeed is more than you'd likely want for a Master Fair.
12) Princess Hilda - This design rules.  I know people aren't fans because it doesn't suit Hilda, but like...Hilda's expressed an interest in acting prior to the PokeWars event, and this is her in that acting role, swapping places with Diantha.  Diantha's whole thing is playing different roles as she ages, and Hilda going against what's easy and fits her to play an unusual role is just fitting into that actor philosophy.  It conceptually works out great, and it means partnering her with Diancie, one of my favorite mythical Pokemon.  And oh god, the battle performance.  Diamond Storm is fantastic, giving solid damage output and a guaranteed +2 to her defense every use.  She doesn't just get to be strong and fast, she gets to be ridiculously tanky on the physical side as well.  I love that kind of mixed utility.
11) Lysandre - I am completely serious.  Yeah, amidst the many great designs for alts, we get one last base form character in Lysandre.  I...really love Yveltal. And while initially not a fan of the guy, Masters has made me appreciate a lot about Gen 6's cast by giving them more development.   Lysandre is more interesting to me here than in XY.  But really, this is one built on battle ability. Lysandre is known for being fairly weak, and not the best.  He doesn't place well in tier lists because of the lack of sync buffs, and honestly not having much for move damage either.  Which is a shame, because his move is incredible. Healing off of a damaging move that strong is great, and while CS has been unkind, the Gauntlet meta loves this.  AoE is common.  AoE crits are common.   Sync damage is far less threatening, so he can actually take that hit and heal it off.  Lysandre is super good in Gauntlet, and it's so vindicating to have this playstyle I really enjoy actually succeed in the new mode to beat.
10) Teatime Lillie - As we enter the top 10, competition starts to get really fierce, and I have to make decisions.  Thankfully, this one isn't that tough.  Teatime Lillie is great.  I love her design, I think it's great they brought back the dress and hat without the Nihilego context of her initial design, and I love Polteageist and think this is a fun combination.   But.  Teatime Lillie is now one of three premium special attack/crit buffers, and I make the argument she's the worst of the three, both conceptually and functionally.  Conceptually, it's cute, sure, but it didn't need to be Lillie here.  Polteageist doesn't inherently fit Lillie, you know?  It could've been a lot of people.  Functionally, Lillie's constant healing is often less than you'd like, and her grid is enough of a disaster that she has to pick between efficient buffing or better healing support, while the others do not.  Worse, Lillie's kit isn't all that great without 3/5.  She needs All Ramped Up and Crit Squad to buff with anything resembling efficiency.  I use Lillie all the time, because I love specially offensive Pokemon so much, but she's definitely the least exciting of the three to me, even as I love her.
9) New Years Sabrina - God, what a turnaround.  I was initially not super sold on Sabrina's costume, thinking it was like alright to decently cute.  I didn't really care much about Chingling, other than liking it when pre-evolutions get in as reasonable picks.  But.  What set her above a lot of prior favorites is her trainer move.  Endure effect, reapplied, to any target?  That's insanely good.  And it's the kind of ridiculous clutch skill that has pulled victory from the jaws of defeat several times.  She's not the most universally powerful buff bot, lacking any way to reliably increase the team's crit rate, and getting only low percentages for most buffs.  But on the flip side, she's a unit who can buff both defenses, speed, special attack, and crit for the team, while also having a healing move that applies endure, and shutting down status.  That's a lot.  Sure, it takes forever, so she's far from consistent at any given effect, but it makes her tremendous in Gauntlet, while Endure keeps her relevant in CS.
8) Renegade Cynthia - Excellent, a Cynthia alt with a good costume, and a really cool partner.  Everything about this alt slaps.  Design's great, Giratina's super cool as a partner, and we brought in Ghost Zone.  She can tear through defensive stats, has fantastic damage output, an absurd sync nuke.  What's not to love?  That said, Cynthia ranks a little lower because ultimately, she's...not always here to fight by herself.   In CS, a lot of the time she's around to support someone else as a Ghost Zone setter.  This is the trapping of having a multiplier move; often you're just around to support others.  And Cynthia, by design, is here to be more offensive than supportive, which doesn't do a ton of favors. But like...come on.  Come ON.  Are you gonna look at this and say it's not one of the best?  Be honest.
7) Champion Iris - Does this confirm I like Iris better than Cynthia as a champion? Yeah, probably.  I love Iris, I think she's fantastic, and I'm hoping she gets another alt soon.  But Champion Iris will always be there to sate my need for something destructive.  Packing what is still the highest powered sync nuke in the game, alongside very efficient, damage dealing offense debuffs, Champion Iris remains an absolute monster of a unit.  While inefficient in CS, and requiring support to setup debuffs, Classic Elesa at 1/5 is enough that she can easily tear through half time to sync stages off-type with like no issue.  She's that good.  And that's not even her best performance!  Because it doesn't include Dragon Zone!  Yes, Lucas has a use, and it's setting up Iris' ultimate sync nuke!  Granted, the teambuilding around that is unreasonably bad, making it unviable to actually set up, and so far beyond overkill that there's literally never a reason to do it.  But it's still really funny that with the whirlwind of legendary Pokemon and the increased emphasis on powerful sync nukes, Iris is still the champion.
6) Anniversary Lillie - God, this is such a gorgeous alt.  I lost my mind over this one when it was revealed.  Lillie looks so good, and Lunala is like the perfect pick for a partner.  She's also got the single funniest buff arc of any unit.  Starts out not that great.  Still the best for Ghost-damage, but largely locked to on-type damage, which some argued was worse than Anni Steven.  Then Halloween Caitlin comes out, and gives every other kind of buff, and the perfect setup for sustain.   Then SS Lusamine comes out and gives Alolan Spirit buffs.  Then Renegade Cynthia comes out with Ghost Zone.  And then, as the ultimate proof of Lillie favoritism, Gauntlet drops.  Lillie is one of four units in the game to completely bypass damage reduction effects, and becomes a perfect pick against literally every Gauntlet stage thus far.  It is unreal how useful Lillie is for the modern meta.  She's been granted other rare but exceptionally powerful tools for CS, and Gauntlet feels almost tailor made to her.  I use this Lillie constantly.  She's easily one of my favorites for damage dealers.
5) Sygna Suit Dawn - Okay, in practice?  This might be my favorite.  Dawn's gimmick here is so hilariously in line with her particular brand of madness that it's perfect.  So you trainer move, to buff both defenses for the whole team, and +2 crit rate, but you take 30% of max HP in damage.  Weird.  Then you heal with Moonlight, which recovers base 50% of your own HP, and will apply special moves up next if under 50% total HP.  Oh, but it has no MPR, and only regains one on sync if you pick up the node.  Also weird.  Her sync move is a supportive one that restores the move gauge, heals all status, and heals allies, with healing scaling to her move level.  That's just weird.  And it works.  By god does it work. She gets absurdly tanky, she has great heals, and yet isn't like...insanely overpowered.  Imagine how easy it would've been to make SS Dawn literally unkillable.  I think a regular MPR might have been enough to do it.  I can guarantee that letting her sync heal herself would've.  It's this back and forth, give and take that really makes me love SS Dawn's playstyle.  Adding to it that it's Dawn, the best protagonist, with Cresselia, my lovely moon duck, and this was destined to be a favorite.
4) Sygna Suit Cyrus - Gen 4 is my favorite.  Included within that statement is the side-game, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, which is the objectively best one don't even try to argue.  A big part of that favoritism does stem from the antagonists.  Cyrus always felt pretty relatable, at least in that sense of "the spirit is weak, emotions make people into bastards" kind of sense, while Darkrai was just a really threatening and interesting villain, and I can get behind a world of quiet and dark.   "But the nightmares-" yeah, we already got those, it's not that bad.   Masters took these two favorites from my younger days, and went "What if that was a sync pair, based around Cyrus being so used to nightmares that Darkrai doesn't bother him?"  It is, without question, the single best conceptual sync pair in the game.  Nothing tops this on concept.   And the design is so good, this is peak edgelord Cyrus.  His trainer conversation also has him kinda brag about how he thinks only he could really partner with Darkrai, because others are too afraid of it to see it objectively.  And I love it.  I love it so much.  It helps that he's also ridiculous as a unit.  Sleep is fantastic, AoE sleep is better, Dark Zone is tremendous, and his sync nuke hits like a truck.  What holds him back, to me, is just a matter of being pulled too many directions at once.  He winds up really reliant on his team despite his potential, which isn't necessarily bad, but is something that can be a bit annoying.  Also sleep is overrated.  It's definitely strong, but everything wakes up in like half a second so it's never been my favorite.
3) Halloween Caitlin - Imagine, if you will, that what gets you into this game is going through an unexpected character fixation, and spending hours rerolling to get that character, only to later find out that said character is considered one of the worst in the game, has no EX form for no discernable reason, and hasn't been seen in a while.  How are you feeling about the game at that point?  Probably a bit annoyed, yeah?  Yeah.  That's Caitlin.  Her base form was pretty bad upon arrival.  Granted, with limited tools, anything is reasonably good, and she at least had Psychic Terrain to support her damage, but still.  It was rough. And only a few months in, after getting the fantastic design of Anniversary Lillie, they drop this.  A Caitlin alt that has an absurdly cute design, and a pretty interesting partner pick.  Sableye was not my first guess, but it works for her.  Of particular note, I think it's a great addition that she'll talk about how she was afraid of ghosts and the dark, but has gotten past them by becoming friends with Sableye, who's both.  Moreover, the Halloween event was precious.  Caitlin presents as her usual, somewhat aloof self, but Darach assures everyone that Caitlin is actually really excited about the whole thing, and wants to have a fun time with everyone.  That's precious!  I love her so much.  And of course, I haven't talked about battle role.  If you have the CS condition of permanent field effects, you win.  You just win.  And buffing four stats to cap, reliably, with the coveted accuracy boost, is really nice.   Caitlin's just amazing, at everything, and I love her.  Oh, and another one?  She talks about liking a "dark, gothic flair" in her wardrobe.  No wonder she and Cynthia are a thing.
2) Sygna Suit Kris - Justice has been served, and oh my god is it amazing.  Prior to this game, I wouldn't really have considered Kris a favorite protagonist, but I think she's the solid #2 after Dawn now.  Her talks about what she likes to research, and where her interests lie, really resonate with me.  And kinda like Caitlin, Kris was also denied an EX, and considered pretty bad in her base form. But ooooh man, has the alt shifted her fortune.  By raw ability, Sygna Suit Kris is arguably the best unit in the game, offering unparalleled role compression, consistent and significant stacks of special moves up next, special attack/crit buffing by default, the ability to cap defense, special defense, and speed over time, pop healing that heals the whole team, Endurance, Natural Remedy.  Kris basically got everything short of built-in Vigilance and attack buffs.  SS Kris has been my go-to since she launched.  I know it's only been like three weeks, but if anything happened to her I'd kill everyone in this meta and then myself.  And like, somehow I'm starting on the battle ability, as if the design isn't the best part.  This is such a good look.  Going from the clashing red and yellow of the 90s to this fantastic sygna suit is just...unreal.   And that it comes with Suicune is also ideal.  Kris just feels right with Suicune.  I know, I know, Eusine, but like...this was the frontliner for Pokemon Crystal, my favorite game until Platinum.  I loved that game, and this whole alt just feels right.
1) Kimono Jasmine - This is...such a good alt.  I think in part because it's so unexpected.  Kinda like Halloween Caitlin, you don't really expect Jasmine to just randomly get an alt in an event.  But you especially don't expect her to get Celesteela, a literal Ultra Beast.   This is what keeps sending me; she got Celesteela.  My second favorite Ultra Beast.  And gets to continue the tradition of Jasmine standing around being cute while a giant, hulking metal monstrosity is behind her.  It's so good!  Add to it, Jasmine is the progenitor of the recent uptick in special attack/crit buffers.  Jasmine was here first, and even now remains the most efficient.  Kris has better power behind her buffs and greater stat spreads, while Lillie has greater healing potential.   But Jasmine is ruthless efficiency.  TM -> TM -> X Regen All -> Sync.  You now have +5 special attack, +6 special defense, +3 crit, gradual healing, double sync buffs, AND an endure effect for the team thanks to Safety Net.  Jasmine will now initiate Absorb Spam, a one-gauge cost attack with MGR9 that has a 50% chance to lower special defense.  No one does it like Jasmine.  She is the absolute height of efficiency for the role, with one of the best optimized grids designed. Not only does she get all of this in one set, it also comes with built-in Vigilance, allowing her to take status immunity to shut down every Go Viral strat in the game, and has an equally energy conscientious alternative with Flash Cannon that guaranteed debuffs.   Her only flaws are being slow, and not taking physical hits as well, but like...okay.  I guess occupying like three distinct niches perfectly means you have to have a flaw somewhere.

salutations, i’ve got a bucket full of V3 redesigns for you all!
this is for a “rewrite” fic, technically, and i thought it’d be more fun to give the character designs my personal touches, since i’m gonna be doing the same with my writing
little bullet point reasonings on each of the designs below the cut
ouma: - i didnt really change too much of his design, but i wanted to give it less of a “straitjacket” look and decided to go for a wispy, mysterious look. his scarf now doubles as a hood, which is loosely inspired by his cape in his official art - i gave him a bang to cover half his face, because i just like how it looks on him lmao, imo it gives him sort of a sneaky, “intentionally being the creepy kid” look
himiko: - ill be honest, her redesign was just me having fun. i dont mind her canon design too much, but i did wanna give her the air of not only a performer, but a girl who seriously doesnt care about social conventions (autism) so she wears her cape and her little witch dress around everywhere bc she loves it - i gave her more teal on her design, since APPARENTLY thats what v3 has decided is himiko’s main color? teal, not red? so i gave her a healthy mix of both
kaito: - he’s wearing a JAXA jumpsuit that is modified into his signature magenta color, but he’s an idiot so he’s wrapped the top half around his waist so he can wear his little... bomber-style jacket, since aerodynamics and all that - i made his hair.... more normal, because i really hate drawing kaito’s stupid spiky hair! now he has a little headband flattening his wild hair
shuichi: - his design in canon, while... nice, it’s very plain. so i kept the general look and feel of the canon uniform but adding some touches that feel personal to shuichi, like the turtleneck with sleeves that cover his palms. it gives him a more reclusive look, somebody who prefers being in their comfort zone
kaede: - she’s the first one i started with, so she ended up being a bit of a “basis” for the rest of the designs, considering how different my design is from her canon one. personally, dislike the skintight sweater vest, it doesnt look comfortable NOR does it suit kaede’s personality (imo) so i decided to give her an outfit that makes her look loose, carefree, but still naive and inexperienced. - ponytail, i just think kaede would prefer as well, her canon design has such a round hair shape and it looks silly if i focus on her silhouette too much. shes like a bobblehead
maki: - HOLY SHIT, maki i had a good time redesigning, since i harbor nothing but disdain for how she looks in canon. her stupid edgy red/black seifuku with thigh highs and mile long hair just was too much for me to bear. - i gave her an outfit that seems serious, but still cutesy and nonthreatening. i took her red/black palette and turned up the warmness a bit so she has more browns and maroons that give the impression she’s warmer than she acts like she is - her pigtails are much shorter as well-- i cant decide if theyre clip-ons or her real hair, but at least theyre shorter. honestly, i know she’s supposed to be the ~wooby tragic backstory sexy anime girl~, but her mile long pigtails wouldve gotten her ass yoinked from behind and killed long ago. so i chopped them. also, she’s got a handgun tucked in the back of her pants, hidden by her sweater’s bagginess. no more lame knives for you maki, you get a gun
korekiyo: - just like with himiko’s design, i was mostly just having fun with korekiyos redesign. i like his canon design, but i wanted to try my hand at giving him a much more androgynous look. it ties well into the whole sister thing, anyway... - the flowers depicted on his clothing are crudely drawn i admit, but theyre intended to be white lilies, which represent a few things: renewal of the soul, a common funeral flower, commitment and rebirth - i also figured, if im gonna give more girls pants, i should give at least one of the male characters a skirt, and korekiyo is beautiful and i wanted to draw him in drapey clothing.
miu: - and best for last is miu iruma! man, i HATE her canon design, seriously, what a lazy design! they just slapped bondage gear over a pink seifuku and were done with it! dont even get me started on her long, loose and wild hair that would be an utter nightmare for people who work with machines. i decided to keep her wild and long hair, but packed it all in a thick braid, because it ended up looking surprisingly good for her. besides, she’d probably make some innuendo about it being the “perfect to use as a reign from behind” or something lmao - i also changed her pink seifuku into a frilly, steampunk-styled shirt with the straps and gear on top to kind of... hold it into a specific shape. - we were ROBBED of miu with cute overalls in one of her beta designs, so i gave them back. i rly kinda kept in mind the mindset of “if i was miu iruma, what would *I* personally choose from my wardrobe to feel attractive and powerful?” - i wanted to give her a toolbelt, but thought it would look a little cluttered on the design. but she likely uses one regularly

i have always loved how you draw both L and Light, but I hv been wondering since you drew the lap sitting picture: how would you dress L and Light as characters? Like what would they wear, what would their haircut/hairdos be?
JAMES HI HELLO!! <3 What a lovely surprise in my inbox!
Daww you flatter me :’’D I’m going off the assumption that you mean styling them in the year of our lord 2k22, this is gonna be so much fun. And while I’m super attached to both their canon designs I’m definitely going to update their 2000s haircuts because ouch, them bangs must STAB.
For Light I just want the boy to chill out lol. He’s already plenty stylish in the show, but I want to dress him down a bit while slightly deviating from his teen nerd-core outfits lol. It’s fun to see usually formally-dressed characters in casual-wear (and vice versa for L).
For hair, I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and give him a bit of a mullet (I would draw it to test it out but no time) because his canon design is nearly there anyway, he’d just need to grow it out another inch, layer it, then style some volume into it. Then part his bangs so they’re out of his eyes and frame his face and you’re golden! (I’m so glad mullets are back in style ahhh)
Dressing him down while adhering more to his canon style can be as simple as having him wear a plain white t-shirt under his jackets
Even better if he puts the blazer over his shoulders (imagine the blazer in that photo is better fitted), or rolls the sleeves up half-way when he wears it
^^^ he could also wear a hoodie under his blazers
To make him look younger in a more formal outfit, I’d give him some silver earrings and matching rings
I’m still very attached to his canon black turtle neck look, so we could build on that and give him a modern trench coat when he wants to dress back up to go outside. Man loves his blazers but he’s gotta try something new
And wear more jeans!!
Otherwise I just want to dress him super casual, like I’m talking sweat pants, a t-shirt, and Vans shoes lol. In canon he’s either dressed like a model-student or professional business man. I just want to let him be a regular teen/young adult
Also bring back the beanie!! And pair it with some cozy knit sweaters! Fall colours would really compliment his hair.
Or put him in a crop-top, sky’s the limit! Light could wear anything and still be fine as hell
Ooo L’s gonna be really self-indulgent because I can specifically see him getting into Techwear with a Darkwear aesthetic!! For clarification, Techwear is specifically designed to have functional, multi-purpose features such as hidden pockets, function-serving straps, and breathable/waterproof/high quality material. Darkwear is a term to describe an aesthetic only (all-black, lots of straps as accessories, futuristic, etc). I’m probably gonna get the two mixed up in the example photos because of how similar they look, but the main goal is functionality while also being in style. I feel like he’d appreciate how comfortable yet practical the clothing’s meant to be (assuming he doesn’t have negative sensory reactions to the material)!
If he wants to keep his regular white shirt, it would still style really nicely with some functional black techwear pants like these. I think it actually would be more comfortable for him than his denim jeans
An all-black outfit however would style really nicely with his ponytail!L look! In general I’d have him grow his hair out some more so he has the option to tie it half or all the way up.
AND OOOO L in a Respro Sportsta facemask?? That not only shows off but draws your attention to his intense eyes and dark circles? SWOON WORTHY. (you don’t have to read the article in that link, I just thought the photo at the top was a good example)
Say goodbye to those beat up tennis shoes bud, you’re getting THESE BABIES (just read the description at how practical/comfy they are, it’d be like a second layer of skin over his feet. If he’s gotta wear shoes then might as well wear the ninja shoes)
Ooo but if we wanna go for pure aesthetic with the shoes then give him the Nike Air Presto’s (in the neon yellow design specifically for that simple pop of colour)
Even better, to go with the Nikes, give him bright neon yellow sling bag (for the cyberpunk look) as a double accent piece (unfortunately I couldn’t find a photo of the right colour, so imagine the same style of the black one I linked in the yellow)
Give him fingerless gloves too! Those are the only things that are a bit impractical but it’s for the aesthetic™️
This was such a fun ask! This is making me want to make some fashion illustrations of the characters. Thanks again James!

Meet Marinette! Despite a lonely childhood, she remains brave, friendly to all, and has no issues stepping up to do the right thing. Having proved herself as someone capable of great acts of heroism, Master Fu bestows her with the miraculous of the Ladybug, transforming her into the miraculous Coccinelle! She is the first person to be presented with a Miraculous, and is lovingly known as The First Hero of Paris.
After receiving the miraculous, Marinette decides to dorm at school to have the freedom to come and go as she pleases. Little did she know that dorm life would also come with even more struggles, like having to juggle roommates, noise complaints, and dorm curfew! Will Marinette ever catch a break?
COCCINELLE
Ability: Creation, allows her to create a “lucky charm” which will aid her in battle. She’ll have to use her wits to work it properly however!
Skill: Purification/De-evilize, able to capture an akuma and cleanse it and the damage it caused.
Hi all, Mod Cooper here, I thought it’d be fun to share a bit of my design process for whenever a character sheet gets posted!
So Marinette, I didn’t change her too drastically I think? I wanted to emphasize her “girly” side/fashion student side! I’ve been told I lack style but who took the fashion class in highschoooooool (me I did). So I went something a bit stereotypically French student lol sorry Marinette but I think it came out cute! I wanted pink to be her main color, the softer version of her hero side’s main color but same family. The skirt because while the fact that Marinette actually wears pants is a nice change, I find her interests to be less physically active that it isn’t necessary for her to need Capris ya know? I felt the hat is a bit much but then she looked naked without it so it stayed. And her hair still is in the baby pigtails but I wanted her hair to look shorter and less voluminous.
Coccinelle! Obviously name change because I don’t know Ladybug was always boring to me (obviously as an English speaker I’d think that but hey I’m the designer here), I also like Marinette not being creative with names. She can make some amazing clothing pieces but don’t ask her to name her starter pokemon. ANYWAY THE ACTUAL DESIGN I think we all agree that her canon design is boring as hell. I really just tweaked her season 4 suit because the break up of colors is absolutely needed. I’m a shorts fan so I like the look of shorts. I’m a big superhero fan so I’ve designed a lot of costumes in my spare time so I wanted to add some padding elements to her suit since Young Justice (tv) was a big inspo for me. So she gets elbow and shoulder pads, I introduced red spots on black along with the black spots on red just for some variety. And a lot more solid color parts because I find too much spots an eyesore. The hairrrr, you’ll see this trend but I like to change the hair colors from civilian to hero, so Marinette gets her canon blue back but more saturated and with small teal highlights at the end, not like Luka’s but almost like light reflections that no one knows where from. Hair strands on the side of her face remind me of a beetle’s pinchers (I don’t think ladybugs have those but just thought it was neat). And her hair ribbons! They curve up like antennae! I always love redesigns that do that.
There will outfits changes of course she IS a fashion student, and I also have an idea to implement some Chinese design elements later on (I’m a big fan of the decision to have her feel disconnected from half of her culture, even though they handled it not greatly. So I didn’t want to ignore this struggle of hers because I find it very relatable, so as time goes on, I want her to connect more with her mom and it will subconsciously show on her hero outfit :’) with time everyone.).
Hope you enjoy my design take on Marinette!

AOT (SNK) Headcanons:
how the Paradis characters & the Marleyan warriors would wear facemasks in 2021.
Paradis:
• Eren S1-3: thinks masks are stupid but Mikasa makes him wear one all the time. He takes it off to talk when Mikasa isn’t around and pulls on it because “it’s uncomfortable”.
• Eren S4: probably stepped on the mask Mikasa gave him and put it on the trash before going out to do stuff homicide-perpetuators do.
• Mikasa: has worn a mask since the beginning of the pandemic but doesn’t like it either. Got a box of disposable ones for her and Eren.
• Armin: wears different cloth masks with “fun turtle, stripes, dots and ocean patterns” (in his words) that he bought to match his outfits with a disposable one underneath. Washes his masks way too often.
• Sasha: bought a mask with a zipper so she could eat because she thought it was the smartest invention ever and keeps the zipper open most of the time.
• Connie: wears a dirty ass stamped “dank meme”mask that he bought in the beginning of the pandemic to match with Sasha until she bought the zipper one. Connie has never washed his mask, let alone even thinking about doing that.
• Jean: thinks he doesn’t need one because he is “that man” and only wears disposable ones when people make him but keeps it down all the time. Only pulls it up when he sees Mikasa.
• Historia: cute DIY crotchet mask that she made for her and Ymir with a pink disposable one under it.
• Ymir: wears the crotchet one Historia made for her but always forgets to wear a disposable one under it.
• Erwin: has two masks: a cloth one he got from a political party candidate and other one that came with his medications with the name of the pharmaceutical. -Like don’t tell me you don’t see this man walking around with a mask that says “Abbott” lmfao💀💀-
• Hange: bought a bubonic plague doctor mask because they thought it’d be funny, and always wears it with a disposable mask on the inside, of course.
• Levi: has multiple three layers N95 masks with extra protection he bought off amazon and multiple face shields. Goes with a bottle full of alcohol and a sprayer everywhere to, in fact, spray everything and everyone.
• Floch: is a fucking anti-mask i just know
Marley:
• Reiner: used to wear disposable ones but one day he just stopped wearing them because he is “so sick of the pandemic and just wants to die now”.
• Bertholdt: masks always look too tiny on his face but he tries his best to cover his mouth and nose with them. Has been looking for bigger masks but hasn’t had any luck.
• Annie: i swear after i saw someone say that Annie would cross the ear loops of her mask, i can’t unsee it so yeah, she would do that. She loves masks because she has an excuse to not talk to people or not reply because “she just doesn’t understand and can’t hear people well”. Also, she’d definitely get black disposable ones.
• Pieck: for some reason, masks always end up covering her eyes but she just doesn’t seem to care, so everyone has gotten used to seeing Pieck as small walking forehead during the pandemic, but when she walks on the streets with her mask covering almost her entire face and her hair on her face as well, people get scared and move away from her. She probably remembers to change her disposable mask every month or so :’)
• Yelena: thought masks were stupid and unnecessary but started to religiously wear them after Zeke gave her an entire lesson on “why the pandemic could be a opposite politic wing conspiracy made in order to establish a form of control over the population and weaken the system”.
• Zeke: as I said, he has his own conspiracies and will NEVER let the enemy’s virus into his system so he takes masks very seriously but hated them in the beginning because “the enemy is also profiting off of them” so he ended up developing his own mask with his own materials.
• Porco: another one who’s “too good for masks”. Honestly, only wears them when Pieck makes him and always rolls his eyes and takes it off 10 mins later.
• Falco: changes his disposable masks daily and has a few cloth ones with cartoon designs. Very obedient lmao.
• Gabi: she fucking pulls on that mf mask ALL THE TIME and breaks a minimal amount of 3 ear loops per day during her rage tantrums. The warriors and Falco always have to carry spare masks for her and make her wear them but she HATES it.
