I really liked these unique scenes that were made for the Pikmin Garden website entry on caves. Technically, neither of these use unique assets, but it's kinda cute that they went through the trouble of making these scenes just for character building.

It almost gives me hope for DLC~

If it's a character that has multiple forms, different designs across their home series, or if I personally have an AU version of the character, please specify which version of the character you want to see.

Ex. 1: If you were to request "Mr. G&W - Super Smash Bros", please specify if you want his original form or my humanization.

Ex. 2: If you were to request "White 1010 - NSR", please specify if you want his original form, otherwise it's 50:50 if I go with the DSYNC interpretation or not.

My Compromise (Celebrating 1,000 Followers)

So, I finally hit 1,000 followers not too long ago~ I know the majority of that number isn't actually active, but it's still a cool milestone to have hit nonetheless. So thank you if you've stuck around or if you're new here. I do appreciate any and all support that I get from y'all~ Even though I make art almost solely to make myself happy, I can't deny that having an audience is a decent motivator, so I'm happy to have caught your attention for whatever reason~

Recently, I asked y'all if you'd want me to hold the usual "follower milestone celebration" to open art requests, but the reaction was kinda indifferent~ Still, even though they were in the minority, I do feel a little bad that the people that did want to do it got shut down. So, here's my compromise:

I'll do another Six Fanarts challenge~ If you've never seen this, all you have to do is suggest a character for me to draw in my ask box, and I'll draw it in one of these rectangles.

Please include the series the character is from. I live under a rock, so there's a good chance I'm just not gonna know who your character is if you don't tell me.

It's virtually the same as making a request, but maybe framing it this way will make it more fun for y'all and motivate more people to participate (plus I'll have an excuse to not do full body drawings. Those take a long time ya know~).

Even though this is a "six" fanarts challenge, I actually wanted to do at least 10 of these, I just don't feel like editing the graphic right now~ Maybe I'll even bump it up to 12 so I don't have to edit the graphic at all~

Here are my rules about it:

No OCs. Sorry, that's still gonna be a rule~ I know y'all have some cuties that I'd actually love to draw, but making rules about it is tiring since I'm not mutuals with everyone that I like, so it's easier to just ban all OCs U_U. (Maybe I should consider opening art trades?)

I will draw for fandoms I'm not familiar with unless I'm not comfortable with it for whatever reason. I'm not gonna make a list of banned subjects, but I'll let ya know if it's something I don't wanna do.

Anons will be allowed. I prefer to keep these kinds of celebrations to be follower only, but I realize that some people are just shy, so since this is a lower-stakes way of celebrating, I'll go ahead and allow anons. HOWEVER, people that I can verify as followers are gonna get priority over anons and non-followers. So, if you wanna increase the chance that your character gets drawn, try to come out of your shell a little~

I'll let y'all send requests for a day or 2, and then I'll pick the ones I wanna do from the requests I got. I'll generally try to abide by "first come, first served," but it's not a hard rule. Here's a rundown of my general priorities (assuming the request doesn't conflict with one of the rules and doesn't offend me):

Highest Priority: Follower requests

Middle Priority: Anon/Non-Follower requests from series I know/like

Low Priority: Anon/Non-Follower requests from series I don't know

I Shoulda Just Set that Poll for 24 Hours

Thanks for voting if you did~ That poll is still open if you missed it, but it's not that important, so don't worry about it too much if you did~

Anyway, I went to check on the interest check poll and the results are pretty even, all things considered. NSR is predictably first, followed by Original Content (y'all flatter me~), and Other Video Game. Everything else is kinda spread out.

(If you wanna calculate the exact numbers yourself, I voted for "other" just to check in, so be sure to subtract me from the results.)

I'm a bit curious about what "other video game" entails though, since I figured I listed everything I've ever majorly talked about (I guess I left out the Mii games, but is anyone really still here for that?). I just included it in case I forgot something, but I really don't know what I would've forgotten.

Unless, some people consider some of the Smash guys to be "other".

I had thought about adding a note that Smash included any characters that appear from that game that aren't otherwise mentioned. This included characters that are more known for their main series, i.e. Mario Bros. or Pac-Man, but that note didn't fit, and I figured y'all would know that on your own, but maybe not. I guess adding series that are represented in Smash (Animal Crossing, Pikmin, etc.) separately might have given the expectation that Smash represented Smash only content. My reasoning was that for the most part, I only talk about some characters in the context of Smash (like Red and Lucas) whereas I will talk about things like AC and Pikmin by themselves. So essentially, Smash was the "other games" option, but just for series that are in Smash.

Dunno. That's the only logic that makes sense to me for why that option came in third when I have a fairly narrow focus on the specific things I regularly talk about here. If it was something that I thought I talked about significantly, something that someone would follow me for, then I added it to the poll.

I'm also surprised that no one who voted is still here for Animal Crossing, even though that's arguably one of the big things I used to be known for. I guess I haven't really drawn it in a while, but I consider that game to be inseparable from my identity, but I guess on the outside it is.

Core Memory Unlocked

So, for some reason, I suddenly remembered this toy I used to have as a kid: it was an interactive space tablet. You would press buttons on it, and it would light up and give you planet facts and stuff.

I googled it to try and find the exact one I had, but it turns out there are several different versions of this thing. At first, I thought my memory was faulty because I distinctly remembered it being silver and having buttons on the side, while most of the ones I was finding were blue and/or had their buttons at the bottom.

Eventually, I was able to find the exact one I had on eBay, but I can't find any video footage of this particular model.

I wanted video footage so I could compare the voice clips between this one and the ones I found before it, because I found that all the others used the same voice clips, even if they were different models, so I'm wondering if mine was the same. I recall this (near) exact quote being in it: "If Saturn could fit in a swimming pool, it would float."

But none of the videos I've found have had that line in it. Saturn was my favorite planet at the time, so I remember that voice line very distinctly.

I guess this sounds a little familiar, but I just can't 100% confirm it without hearing that specific quote.

From my meager search efforts, it doesn't seem like these other ones have any specific branding while the one I had was licensed(?) by the Smithsonian, so I don't know if these other ones are "knock-offs" that are using the same voice clips/programming, or if mine was somehow unique.

I'm leaning on the former, since the voice is similar enough to my memory that I can blame any discrepancies on either the video quality or just poor memory. But even though the button layouts are almost identical, mine had a "C" button for the quiz game, and none of the other versions I've found have had a third answer button. If the voices/programming are really the same, would they really go through the trouble of cutting any questions/answers that used the C button? Then again, these other ones that I've found do have a "help" button that mine doesn't have, so it's possible that this is their "C button" and mine just went unlabeled.

Mid-post update, but I did find another version of this thing that actually uses the exact same mold as the one I had, but has different branding/colors.

It apparently has the same manufacturer (Scientific Toys) as what I was calling the "knock-off" versions, so this seems like conclusive evidence that they're probably all the same on the inside and mine just had that premium branding~ Though, from what I can tell, the Smithsonian version has a different manufacturer (Natural Science Industries), and I've yet to confirm if they're related somehow.

I was able to find that Scientific Toys still makes a version of this space tablet, but with yet another different layout and the omission of Pluto. I couldn't tell ya if the voice samples are the same though, XP. I also confirmed that NSI is still partnered with the Smithsonian and making other branded products, so I think that they are separate entities, but I couldn't say definitively who ripped off who yet. Or maybe even that there's a 3rd actor that I just don't know about.

I don't need the answers that badly, but this was a slightly amusing rabbit hole that I went through~

Anyway, the actual point of this post was that in my memory, the voice was actually pretty similar to DJSS and I thought that was kinda funny.

I guess the video voice is close enough, just more nasally~

Kun3h0!1010 (Sketch)

Since Kun3h0's design has gone through what will hopefully be its last iteration, I decided to also update the Kun3h0 1010s just for fun. They haven't changed that much since they were already different from Kun3h0, but I do think the little things that did change do make 'em a little cuter.

I actually lost the original sketch of Neon!GAB (and couldn't be bothered to search for it on the blog), so I just remade him from memory.

Developing S0-R0 (Sketches)

I just feel like drawing Kun3h0-likes lately, so I decided to work more on developing a "rival" character for her. Right now, I'm whittling away at this design that I'm calling "S0-R0" for the time being.

The 2 pics are the latest drawings, then I have the progress of getting to that point in chronological order. You can see the very first "rival" sketch in the last Misc doodle dump.

When I first went into this project, I didn't have any strong direction for where I wanted the character to go. Since Kun3h0 isn't fully developed as a character either, it was kinda hard to think of a foil to basically nothing. However, I did know that I at least wanted the rival's theme to be "stars" to contrast Kun3h0's hearts. So whatever I did was gonna drift towards sharpness.

The first chronological sketch is almost a straight inverse of Kun3h0's design in terms of palette. I wanted the silhouette of their arms and legs to be roughly similar so that it's more clear that they're supposed to be connected and not (just) that I have a limited amount of body-plans that I default to. I do like the black/green color scheme, but they've got a real "XBox" and "Monster Energy" vibe to them.

The outfit itself was heavily based on these clothes, just to give me a little direction, but the current design really drifted away from this.

(I added spinning bulborb just so the clothes wouldn't stretch out the post too much)

I also borrowed an old idea from my "Digital Idol Kayane" design, where she had some of her elements floating around. I figured since Kun3h0's ears/antenna just kinda "float" that I could apply the same logic to the whiskers. That detail would persist through most iterations of the design, but I eventually dropped them.

But, I was still pretty unhappy with that design, so I made another sketch and started working around it. The first iteration was mostly a palette swap to get away from Monster Energy, so I went with cyan since it's a kinda futuristic color that I thought would go great with the black base. Eventually it evolved into the second iteration where I went back to giving them the pants of the very first rival sketch and working from there. I'm not quite sure where the idea for the spikes came from. I think I just wanted to add some more "sharpness" to really work in the star motif, but then that kinda became the "main" motif beyond the stars.

I thought the black/cyan/red color scheme was really cool, but it kinda works against my established symbology where stars are yellow and moons are blue. In the event that I design a moon-motif character in the GAB universe, it would be odd for them to now not be able to use blue because the star-motif character got to it first. So, I did another palette swap, this time exchanging cyan for yellow and gold.

While I was working on that, I also got the idea to design their mascot to help with the design process. Since Kun3h0 was originally based on GAB, I thought that it might help me come up with ideas to solidify the mascot design first and that would help me design the rival proper. So, I made this little fox fella and have been designing S0-R0 around them since. I made several other palettes for the mascot, but in the end I went with my first design.

Finally, I took another stab at the outfit and landed on this minidress and made the collar comically large. I really liked the idea of this slim body being covered in large, overbearing spikes. I also took out more of the red accenting since I wanted to limit their palette as much as Kun3h0's, which is a neutral + 2 shades of the same color + a pop of one other color for small details.

It's not perfect yet, but I do like this direction. I went with this for some rough characterization: While GAB sought out someone with a strong heart to help them, FOX (name not final) sought someone with physical strength. Unlike Kun3h0 who is more emotional than a robot ought to be, S0-R0 tries to complete tasks as efficiently as possible, which leads to them using physical force to address most of their problems. They're not evil per se, they just don't consider the greater ramifications of their actions if they still ultimately complete their original task.

I haven't drawn it yet, but I think their weapon would be a morning star/flail.

It's been a while since I've done a proper drawing of Kun3h0. Actually, I did one not *too* long ago, but it was so jank that it wasn't worth posting/finishing, but you've probably seen bits of it in the background of other posts~

Anyway, I did the sketch for this one last week, but decided to finish it up today since it's bunny day~

I didn't really mean to, but GAB's legs turned out kinda stubby for this one, but I thought it was cute, so I let it pass~

Random Question Time

Doodle Dump: Misc. Edition

Time for misc. doodles~

1: "Ikigusare Idols". Like many people, "Injection Girl" randomly appeared in my Youtube feed, and I was admittedly charmed by them. It's like they're from a bygone era, but they just put out another music video last month. Currently, my favorite song is "スーパーZ指定ガール". (Content warning for mass violence in the lyrics.)

2-4: "Clown Doll Redesign". So, since I've started doll customizing as a hobby, I tend to lurk on the Dolls and CustomDolls subreddits on the lookout for inspo and info. Not too long ago, someone posted asking for advice/critique on their doll ideas. So I sketched these (and some notes on the original design, which are not included here) as a response. In the end, I never did reply because I don't actually have a reddit account, and I thought it would be weird to make one solely to criticize someone, so I'm just posting them here.

My main critiques were that there wasn't a lot of contrast in their color choices and that the blue and red hair seemed random when the rest of the design was pink/green. So, my main goal was to increase the contrast between the pink and green, so the different patterns would stick out more and to unify the pallet a bit more. The skintones differ from the reference because the doll they said they were going to use was a G3 Frankie Stein, who has bluish skin and a prosthetic left leg, so I'm not really sure why their sketch uses the original green skin or why the silver leg is on the wrong side, but it is what it is.

The first 2 are straight pallet swaps, but the 3rd is based on a second design that the OP made. They originally asked for users to pick between the two. Most people said they preferred the blue and yellow design because it was more cohesive, but the OP replied that they really wanted to make the pink and green one work somehow, so that's why I focused on using that one as the base, but I still included a version with the alternate pallet and patterns.

5-8: "Music Junkie Soundwave". In a similar vein, there was another user on the subreddit that wanted opinions on a potential Transformers fashion doll line, citing a video that one of their friends made on the idea.

Now despite having a limited knowledge of Transformers, and I'm still pretty green to the fashion doll world, I wrote a whole-ass dissertation on the idea because magical girl/boy robot dolls are totally something I'd be into.

But, for a similar reason to the clown doll, I didn't want to make a reddit account just to critique someone (though I still have the original response in my drafts).

When I finished writing that response, I decided to sketch how I would go about the idea as it'd been proposed, and created this Soundwave doll idea. Admittedly, he's very inspired by Giacomo from Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (never played it, but I do like some of the character designs in it). I dunno if the overalls are a little dorky, but I couldn't think of another way to represent his chest-deck in a meaningful way.

9-10: "Kingsley and Mamuta". I tried to make some human? designs for them, but it's not going great. I really wanted Mamuta to still be monstrous, but designs like that aren't my strong-suit... Kingsley I'm just not satisfied with yet.

11: "OC Line-Up". Just a few OCs of mine. From left to right: Carol, The Prince Formerly Known As Frog, Shapeshifter, and Fizz.

12: "Rival". An idea for a rival to Kun3h0, ala Shadow the Hedgehog and Wario. I made another sketch recently that goes in a very different direction, but I kinda want to finish that so I haven't included it in this dump.
