We finally get a little, albeit still not great, Izzy/Ed communication. A weekend sleepover is proposed and accepted, with bonus secret room.
---
"Well, I've got a problem with you too," Stede says. "The way you treat Izzy? Is-"
Ed pulls Stede in for a kiss, and Izzy looks away. That's it then. So much for even trying to convince Ed to turn him and have them take Stede on as a shared familiar.
Stede moans, but pushes Ed away after a moment. "Would you let me talk?"
He turns to Izzy. "And you said that you and him had never had anything. I'm not upset about that, I just want to understand-"
"It never meant anything," Ed interrupts. "Trust me. Even now, it's just...stress release."
Izzy scoffs. "Didn't always seem that way to me."
"Then I'm sorry we've misunderstood each other," Ed says, suddenly hesitant, awkward.
"Your food is in the fridge," Stede says. "I've invited Izzy to mine for the weekend, but I'll make sure that if you call, we come over to help with anything you need."
Izzy blinks. "Your place?"
"Remember?" Stede chuckles. "I do have the kids this weekend, but they're used to the bar staff stopping by to hang out with us now and again. They won't mind making a new friend. That's their mother's influence, I was never good at encouraging that."
Ed nods slowly. "That would be alright. Maybe we need a few days apart."
"It happens to everyone," Stede says. "People need space sometimes! And you clearly need it to get your fucking head screwed back on straight. Otherwise you might lose someone good to you."
"Is that a threat?" Ed smirks.
"Wouldn't you like to know," Stede says icily. "Shame you're this much of an asshole. You kiss well."
"Takes one to know one," Ed frowns. "Izzy. Take your phone, keep it charged, and if I call or text-"
"I think he knows how cell phones work and to pick it up if you call," Stede cuts him off. "Besides, we do have some things planned, so he might not always be checking it 24/7. But we'll be as mindful as possible."
"How generous of you," Ed rolls his eyes. "I guess I'll see you then?"
Izzy nods. "Don't hesitate to call if you need me. For anything."
He expects more anger, but Ed only looks wounded now. And he could swear he sees tears in the corners of his eyes.
--
He dips inside just behind Ed, but they don't exchange another word.
In his room he hurriedly packs some clothes and other bits into his battered suitcase. He can't think straight and knows he's probably forgetting something, but Stede won't mind if they need to pick anything up for him at a store.
He just has a gut feeling about that. It's the kind he used to have so often with Ed, trusting that he could make a mistake or fail and Ed might be frustrated or disappointed, but ultimately it would be fine.
He's not so sure things will be fine this time.
Outside, Stede is grinning waiting for him.
"I'm excited," he blushes. "I know I was hesitant at the bar, but that was just because I do have the kids tomorrow and the day after, and my ex usually doesn't care if I have guests but-"
Izzy kisses him softly. "I can tell you're excited. I'm glad, and grateful, for everything. It's been a lot."
Stede bumps his forehead gently to rest against Izzy's. "Well, I wouldn't do it for everyone, or anyone. But something about you..."
He lifts his head and peers to the house, snorting. "Let's give him a show."
Izzy looks. Ed is watching from the upper window, draped in his favourite robe. It used to be one of Izzy's.
Izzy melts into the deep kiss Stede gives him, dropping his suitcase to the ground to free up his arms.
He wraps his arms around Stede's neck, and as fun as it is, he can't help but feel bad. It would, and had, broken his heart to see Ed in positions like this with other people, like Jack.
Does it hurt the same way for Ed now? Does someone so wildly old, who has witnessed and done so much in one life, still feel those highs and lows as vibrantly?
Izzy wishes he knew. But Ed might never reveal the answer to him. Ed might not even let him back into the house after the weekend, for that matter.
He tucks the question into the back of his mind, and lets Stede take his suitcase and his hand.
--
"This is, uh, it."
Stede leads Izzy into a perfectly respectable, smaller house. "Mary was wonderful about making sure I was put up after we settled everything. Made sure I had enough left to have a roof and pay for it."
He chuckles awkwardly. "I'm kidding; it really was amicable and a two party decision. Don't get married to someone just to please your parents and theirs!"
"Mum's dead; I don't think she cares who I marry," Izzy smiles. "Shame yours and hers put the two of you through that."
"Well, we could have had it annulled right away, but we both felt we ought to at least try," Stede said. "Thank you though. It's been amazing since the divorce, actually. I mean, I've been struggling a bit with realizing that I don't know if I'm actually all that attractive to anyone-"
"Shut the fuck up," Izzy laughs. "You have a mirror."
Stede grins and blushes and Izzy wants to kiss him senseless.
"Here," Stede clears his throat, and gestures onwards. "Shoes o-oh! You already have them off! It's only you and my bar friends that do that right away, anyone else I've had over left them on! Absolutely wild to me, that!"
"We only keep ours on at the house because the floors have seen better days," Izzy says. "And I clean it but...for the sake of one's health, it's safer to keep shoes on. Otherwise we'd have them off."
"I figured," Stede nods. "That whole house has seen better days."
Just like Ed, Izzy thinks to himself, then admonishes himself for the thought.
"Kitchen, living room, linen closet, bathroom here and another downstairs," Stede continues as he leads Izzy through the rest of the house. "The basement has a surprise I think you'll like too."
He takes Izzy down the slightly steep stairs, to reveal what appears to be a mostly unfinished basement.
"Have to hand this to you briefly," Stede says, and gives Izzy back his suitcase.
He kneels down to a rug on the floor, and moves it aside to reveal an ornate dark metal trapdoor.
"What."
"Yeah," Stede grins. "Had it installed after I got settled. Paid extra to have it done faster, but Mary gave me half as my birthday gift this year. I've always wanted a hidden room or passageway, you know?"
Izzy smiles. "Yeah. Did you design it all yourself?"
"Only in decor," Stede replies, and leads down the ladder into the passage. "I'm not good enough at engineering and knowing how it would affect the foundation. I wasn't even sure it was possible, and goodness knows I don't fully understand how it was done. But they did good work."
He reaches up for the suitcase, and Izzy hands it down.
"There must have already been some of this built," Izzy says as he comes down the ladder. "Or it probably wouldn't have been."
"That's what they made it sound like," Stede says. "Here, we can spend the nights down in this room, if you want. I don't think Ed would actually do anything to hurt you, or seek you out like that-"
"His bark is worse than his bite," Izzy interrupts. "Besides, I'm as guilty as he is of occasionally being a bit rough when I shouldn't be. We give each other as good as we get. Probably shouldn't, but..."
"Could be something to work on and work past," Stede says. "But there'll be time to think about that later. For now, he can clear his head, and you yours."
The passage leads to a room, with a mattress that must have barely fit through it.
"One of those new ones that comes all folded up in the box," Stede supplies, as if he can hear Izzy's thoughts. "I don't think I'll be able to get it out of here if I ever move though!"
"Not the end of the world," Izzy shrugs, and tentatively settles down onto the mattress. "It'll be a fun, odd surprise for the next owner."
Stede laughs. "Something like that. Now, there's a cooler down here with drinks and some food, but of course the nearest bathroom is the one on the main level, so that's not ideal. Hopefully not too bothersome for you though."
"You're showing me a secret passageway and hidden room, and you're afraid of disappointing me?" Izzy chuckles. "Come here."
Stede sets down the suitcase, and strips as he goes.
When he's completely naked, he settles onto Izzy's fully clothed lap. His cock is already half hard, and he sighs shakily when Izzy's hands find his bare skin.
"I really can't tell you how much I appreciate everything you've done for me," Izzy says. "Can I try showing you instead?"

Blood for Ruin
(Or, Alastor and That One Time He Got Drunk and Forgot He Tried To Make a Black Magic Agreement With a Radio Only For It to Come Back to Him in the Worst Way)
Pairings: Alastor x Reader (She/Her/OFC) as reluctant semi-soulmates via non-consensual deal (on both ends). No use of Y/N.
I understand he is aroace, but I couldn’t stop thinking about this idea so here it is.
Eventual smutty smut happening, but be kind dear god am I rusty.
_________________________________________
Exhausted was simply not what you were - you were so past that, your brain so fried out that you didn’t even know what word you were.
Because if you were seeing smiling figure-like shadows on the walls with long dark tendrils wrapping around your surroundings, and radio static from nowhere, then yea. You were fried.
But hey, it had been a crazy long weekend. You’d just spent the last 4 days cleaning up your hoarder of a great aunts shack in the Bon Temps bayou with the other scattered remainder of her family, rooting through about 4 unidentifiable rooms with confirmed animal carcasses and straight up trash-garbage piled to the ceilings. But since your mother died, any family connection at this point was appreciated, right?
‘Couldn’t be more wrong, but it’s too late now’, you think. It was way too late to back out now, you had something to prove. Your Great Aunt’s remaining son had called you ‘slicker’ because you lived in a town with more than one lighted intersection for Christ's sake. And because you used ‘whom’ in a sentence, that opened up an entirely new thrush of nicknames from your distant cousins. You wouldn’t be beaten down, you guys were almost all done with the cleanup anyway, the only remaining items being that of actual use or salvageable material. A couple family members had taken a few items home already, and since you weren’t particularly close with these relatives you weren’t about to ask for anything until-
Well until the little radio was brought out.
For some reason, the craftsmanship of this radio caught your eye. It was a beautiful dark wood, with intricate swirls carved around the speakers - the entire thing was shaped like a miniature church cathedral window. It was clearly vintage, basically a historical piece, you thought - and you did ask quietly if you could keep it. Your uncle fiddled with it to make it work but it needed some attention. It looked virtually untouched otherwise. It was a gorgeous piece, and it looked like it was a new acquisition to the deceased woman’s collection - there wasn’t a spec of dust visible on it. Your uncle figured it wouldn’t be able to pick up football (and also “why would I listen to football when I can WATCH it?”) he let you take it with you.
So you brought it back to your temporary home, the little motel at the outskirts of town (the only motel even close to the town) and set it on the little desk. And there it sat for 2 days before you finally dove in, trying to figure out what was going on with it. You had deduced it was likely the wiring, and after watching 5 or 6 videos on wiring repair on YouTube (good old YouTube) you were fairly confident a simple repair would take no time at all.
But things made in the 20s were a lot sharper, and more metal based, compared to the newer plastic models of recent years. So when you undid the back panel and attempted to unscrew a fastener around the side of the main component, you had successfully sliced your palm open on an errant piece of metal. And holy crow did it hurt AND gush blood immediately. Even though you had whipped your hand close to your chest almost as soon as you realised what had happened it was too late, there was a fair amount of blood that got on the inside of the machine.
Uttering curses, you’d rushed to the bathroom to grab a couple threadbare cloths and sop up some of the larger drops on the desk. Moving around the radio to the light, you had a clearer idea of where your blood landed. Palming one cloth in your wounded hand, your other one attempted to clean up the mess within the radio. Which is where you noticed the funny little symbols written on the inside of the back panel of the radio, which had lain facedown on the desk as soon as you had removed it. These little symbols looked like runes of some sort, unidentifiable to you. They almost looked like they were written out of blood themselves. It was clearly dried now, but the jagged nature of the strokes and brownish un-ink like material that was used to leave the symbols certainly looked like dried blood might look like on old wood.
You wiped your blood off the radio, and ran the cloth right over one of the runes, making it glow briefly with a green light. Maybe.
Well, that was what you thought you saw. But it was so brief you would have missed it with a well timed blink. The sun was setting, light streaming through the window in hazy little streaks, maybe you saw some prismatic effect? Or maybe, maybe you needed a shower and bed. Clearly if you sliced your hand open on a little radio you were tired. Sloppy coordination indeed. You reattached the back panel to the radio and decided to ignore it until you were in a better headspace.
Radio abandoned, you went and started to clean yourself up and get ready for sleep. But when the lights in the bathroom started to flicker, only to stay on slightly duller than before, paired with a strange static that scratched the inside of your eardrums, you decided to end your shower quicker than ever. Exiting the bathroom, you were chilled to realise that the main room had the same ambient experience waiting for you. And if you focused on the moving shadows from what you hoped were passing cars (electric, judging by the lack of engine noise) there was a solid larger mass lingering on the wall with the dresser and broken TV. One that looked like it had a smile, and glowing red eyes (from a car's tail lights, duh!). Yes, yes. Tired. SO tired.
Calling the front did not help, since the static was so loud when you lifted up the receiver you slammed it back down. Your own cell phone was still charging on the side table, flashing the little dead battery symbol to let you know you needed to be more responsible with your charging habits in the future. It could be another 15 minutes before it was ready to turn on.
So, obviously tired, it was time to attempt to sleep. Hopefully. If you were lucky. It wasn’t enough that the bayou was creepy all on its own, the evening took a sharp turn into scary-town after you started messing with the little radio.
Pyjama-clad and ready to sleep you decided that the hallucinations were exactly what you thought they were - hallucinations and nothing more. Nothing spooky, or supernatural, or dangerous.
But you had been wrong before.
It was the initial crashing sound of the motel room door hitting the wall that woke you up first, screaming male voices really kicking your brain into high alert as you scrambled out of bed. Ending up in the corner facing the opposite corner where the door was, you took in what was happening. 2 men, yelling at you for whatever you had - but you were screaming louder than they were, scrambling for anything in your grasp - just that stupid, fucking radio - but judging by the hot impact of a projectile hitting your chest they were not thrilled you weren’t immediately cooperating. Hand clenching around the radio’s cord you hit the corner and slumped down to the floor, lungs burning and immense pain taking over your consciousness. As your mind faded, you could hear the two men bickering, freaking out over the turn their burglary took. Oh, you being shot was an accident? Stellar. Your vision became hazy, it even looked like shadows were overtaking the men as their arguing turned into painful screaming. Whoever came to your aid was simply too late, though you could appreciate the gesture as you died.
You always thought that you would end up looking down at your dying body when the time came, but from the forceful pull downwards your soul felt, it was clear the afterlife had different plans for you.
Now you weren’t really sure what the hell, like actual, literal, hell, was going on. The impact you felt from your sharp tug into the afterlife, landing on a very detailed rug at what looked like the lobby of a hotel was one thing. The tiny radio following your fall shortly after, merely denting a corner of the wood with a loud thunk was another, cord still clenched in your hand. Oh good!
Dazed, you were immediately hoisted up and hugged - yes hugged - by probably the tallest women you had ever met, and the fastest talking one as well. Rambling about “welcome”, “hell rehab”, something or other about redemption - honestly the look of relief you gave the shorter woman who approached and reined in the other made her smirk as she introduced them in a much clearer manner.
Vaggie and Charlie. Vaggie was a resident of the hotel with her girlfriend, the owner and operator of this ‘Hazbin Hotel’, Charlie, both working at redeeming the souls of sinners and getting them into heaven. There were 2 residents, Angel & Sir Pentious, who were not present, a Janitor Nifty (currently wiping your landing spot with a cloth) the bartender, an angry bird-cat man Husk, and the host (also missing) Alastor. Your open mouthed confusion clearly made Charlie snap into attention (finally) because she finally morphed into a being that was capable of conversation.
“So, new to hell?” She inquired.
Well. Duh. “Um yes. I think I was just shot? Am I actually dead?” You asked, hopeful this was a very vivid nightmare.
“As a doornail!” She exclaimed, chipper with positive energy, “Not that doornails are dead, they don’t have souls like you or Angel but really-”
“Yes. You’re dead. And a sinner, which is why you’re here.” Vaggie cut in, patting Charlie on the back. Charlie smiled brightly and nodded at you.
“Yes, and here you can redeem yourself and hopefully make it to heaven! I have faith in our program.”
Oh god this was too much. The sound of a door opening and closing was faintly heard in the background, but that didn’t stop you from being a speedy spiral into mania.
“So. One, I’m dead. Two, why am I in hell I am pretty sure I was a decent human? I didn’t go to church, sure, but I had very little control over my working schedule. Three, is it supposed to be so freaking loud down here? I’m-“
Intense breathing interrupted - yes, breathing. It was the janitor, her one eye staring at you while she lifted the little radio. ”This is diiiirty” she semi-sang. A horrific giggle was lingering under her breath. You grimaced at her behaviour and dropped the cord immediately, avoiding any contact by proxy with this creature. What a creepy little -
“Did that come with you?” Charlie asked, looking confused as you answered with a nod. “Strange, usually possessions don’t follow a soul into the afterlife…” She trailed off, finger tapping her chin with a frown. Everyone turned to look at the manic janitor essentially vibrating with the radio in her hands.
“Interesting! What has inspired us all to gather this fine evening?”
”Alastor!” Charlie greeted an individual behind you. ”This might be our newest resident…she’s just arrived!” Her hands wildly gestured from you to whoever was behind you. You could see the shadow of the person on the floor, stretching into a long figure that looked vaguely familiar. You were certain your eyes were burning a hole into the carpet beneath the shadow. If the shadow was this frightening what exactly was behind you? The shadow appeared to smile wider as you stared at it.
“Hmm!” Alastor, you supposed, responded. “What an exciting new development why - Oh!” Something had caught his attention. He walked towards the janitor, and you glanced at the back of his figure as he walked past you towards the tiny creature. He was tall, very tall, and slender. There was an ominous presence around him, even the nature of his clothing was fashioned in a way that seemed off. It was unnerving. Broad shoulders tapered into a very slim waistline, his jacket flared out behind him in a style reminiscent of a different time. Head to toe red and black, which was also just…something else. But the other patrons also had an interesting approach to their wardrobes as well, save the 2 women. Maybe that was just…how it was here.
“Now where did you find this delightful little item, Nifty?” He said, his profile coming slightly into your view. Dear god, terrifying. You couldn’t even begin to describe his appearance. Chills ran down your back, and suddenly you remembered you were still in very thin pajamas.
“Eh-hehe a dirty radio sir!” She answered, thrilled with herself. “it came with our new guessst” her eye switching from the tallest, creepiest creature you had ever set your eyes upon to your gaze. You swear you could hear the bones crack in the man's neck as he fired his gaze to yours. You were trapped.
“Is that so?” He began to slowly walk towards you, the room filling with a static hum similar to what you felt in the motel room, your skin tingling as he got closer. It was getting harder to hear the others try and talk to the approaching figure, the hum was getting louder.
“And what,” he started, “are you doing with my Radio, my dear?” His eyes were radio dials at this point, sharp jagged teeth glowing alongside them as his head tilted in an inhuman manner, the cracking from before louder than before.
What? Oh for fucks sake. Fuck your backwater, bayou-residing, rude, nasty, hoarder family-
As your eyes rolled back into your head, your body went limp and you hit the foyer carpet. Hard. For the second time that night

i see a lot of people apprehensive about how the crows will be integrated into the ravka storyline and i will tell u why i am not worried at all. it is because when i watched season one with a few partners and friends who haven't read the books, one asked, "omg, what is inej and alina's relationship like in the books??" and was FLABBERGASTED when i said they've never met in the canon.
"WHAT. BUT. BUT IT'S EVERYTHING????"
the show is absolutely going to make mincemeat of the canon crows timeline and transpose important book moments to earlier in the series and forge relationships that are different or nonexistent in the book canon. but this is Exciting As Hell 2 me. because eric heisserer and leigh bardugo both have intimate understandings of these characters and their themes and what makes important, compelling, well-constructed television.
there's every chance that i'll HATE what's done with the crows this season and i'll eat these words. but in the meantime. seeing zoya and inej together in the trailer?? knowing how isolated and lonely both are in the canon?? knowing how they hail from the same cultural background and both have extremely different experiences with prejudice and assimilation?? I'M SO EXCITED I COULD FUCKING CRYYYY HOLY SHIT YES YES YES ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️

Appreciate the Astarion works!!! 💙💙💙
If you'd like another request, what about Tav gifting him something that allows him to see his reflection? Idk some kinda spell/amulet/potion? They're already to the point where he feeds from them or in a relationship and he's just beyond touched/ shocked they would do something for him like this? (Bc we know he's not ever had the most kindness shown to him)
he's been living rent free in my head and I just want to give him everything his undead lil heart desires.
Recommended Song: Mirrorball - Taylor Swift
(I just started listening to her music and holy shit this song is so them!!!)
It's late, the perfect time of day for the two of you. You and Astarion and out in your backyard, putting out some new furniture that he haggled for today. It's hard to say no to that smile, you would know. As you move nice chairs around debating where you should put them, you get into a playful argument.
"I know you're like, the house decorator, but gods why can't we put it in this corner?"
"Because darling, it'll ruin the feng shui. We should put the chairs here instead, and keep the plants over here."
You roll your eyes.
"I bet you don't even know what feng shui means."
"I don't, but it sure sounds fancy doesn't it?"
You giggle.
"What, I'm laughable because I don't know one tiny phrase? I bet there are plenty of words you don't know."
"Well, I don't know them, so I'm not worried about them."
You saunter over to him, throwing your arms up around his shoulders, and the two of you stare at each other for a moment.
"You know our anniversary is tomorrow right?"
"How could I forget my sweet?"
"I don't know, maybe the way you forgot what feng shui means."
"Okay, ouch. But yes of course, I have wondrous plans for the two of us."
"Okay but you can't have that good of plans because I really need to make sure you don't one-up this."
You walk back into the house for a brief moment, grabbing a scroll out of your bag.
"When I walked away while we were at the market, because I said I got tired of hearing you argue with that old lady? Well, I found this."
You hold the scroll out, and he gently grabs it out of your hands.
"I tried to get Gale to teach me, but you know I'm not very magically inclined so..."
He unrolls the scroll, reading the scrawled writing.
"This is-"
You cut him off in excitement.
"Mirror image! I thought maybe you could use it to make a reflection of yourself."
He stares at the scroll in shock.
"How much did you pay for this?"
"None of your damn business."
You grin at him, knowing all too well that you paid that guy way too much.
"This is very sweet my dear, I... I don't know what to say."
"Well you don't have to say anything, try it!"
After reading for a moment, he goes to cast the spell. He says a few words that go right over your head, and suddenly there were three more Astarions in your backyard.
"Gods!"
Astarion's cry of shock echoed through, all four of him? You're not quite sure how this works. After getting his bearings, Astarion looks around at his three reflections.
"Wow, this is certainly... wow."
You're so excited, you can finally show him all the little details you like about him, he gets to see how gorgeous he is, the list goes on and on.
"Okay, I have to do something funny, because I NEED you to see your little laugh lines. Hm..."
He furrows his brow at you, wondering what you're planning. And then you tickle his sides, causing an eruption of laughter.
"Quick, look!"
As he's still smiling, he catches a glimpse of one of the reflections, the little crow's feet he gets when he laughs.
"Oh, that was so important you had to attack me? If anything they make me look old."
"Well... you are kinda old."
He playfully pushes your shoulder. After the two of you quiet your laughter, he stands staring at one of the reflections, taking it all in. The eyes, the hair, trying to remember what he used to look like.
"What do you think?"
"I think... I think it's fitting."
He snarls to look at his fangs. Astarion has never seen just how menacing he can be, why people listen to him when he's threatening. You don't see anything scary though. Maybe you used to, long long ago. But now, he's just Astarion. That's all he has to be.
"This red really is quite bright."
He says, commenting on his eyes.
"Yeah, they're nice though. Piercing."
"At least my hair looks as good as I think it does. All my efforts haven't been wasted."
And just as fast as they came, the reflections vanish, fading out of existence. It's just the two of you again.
"Damn, I thought it would last a little longer."
You frown a little, wondering if it was really worth it. Astarion catches your glance, realizing your doubt. He tilts your chin up and cups your face in his hand.
"Even if it was short, it was a wondrous gift darling. I appreciate it, truly. Besides, now I know what kind of handsome devil you've ended up with."
"Yeah, trust me, I know."
You wrap yourselves up in each other, locking lips, somehow sharing your gratitude for each other in kisses. He gets a little handsy, and you jokingly whisper to him.
"Should've done this with the reflections."
He laughs quietly.
"Oh hush."
You end the evening tangled up in each other, and he seems to be more sure of himself than usual. Turns out seeing yourself after two hundred years can do something for the ego. Maybe one day, you'll find a more permanent soluton, but for now, one little scroll is enough. He's enough. You're both enough, as long as you have each other.

Octavinelle 17
Summary: A stranger approaches you while you're relaxing on the beach. Your large seafolk don't really take to people just coming up to you all that well.
(My brain is all over the place again. Writing a little bit of everything. Have patience and enjoy the seafolk intimidating peeps with their large forms. I have written, so many words!)
Tumblr media
That pocket dimension back home was a strange thing indeed. There wasn't really a surface to breach, nor was there a beach to lay on. It was just water in all directions, no matter how far one goes.
So, with the help of some potions and other magical things, you took the seafolk right into an odd beach that you're more than sure Crowley made somehow. You don't know how, but it had crow shape stones sitting on top of a boulder, so you know he did something.
Well, either way, this place was yours for the playing and the relaxing with.
As soon as you set up the towel and umbrella, all of the seafolk carefully set into the water before they all just dove in.
Azul sank deep into the water as soon as he morphed into his true form, just making bubbles with his lips while he sat there and enjoyed the sun.
Jade seemed to be carving into a raised rock in the water with his claw. He always seems to be busying himself with various little projects and hobbies. Likes to keep his hands busy when he can, for one reason or another.
And Floyd was, well, being Floyd. He was diving to the bottom and seems to be digging for things. Clams, sand-dollars, dead starfish. And just when you weren't paying attention to him, he threw wet sand and seaweed right at your knees.
You didn't exactly come to the beach for yourself to be perfectly honest. Sure, the waters are crystal clear and the weather was just perfect, but it was just one of those days where you simply want to bask in the sun, take in the sea-salt smell and listen to the waves as the seafolk played among themselves.
"Uh, hey! Excuse me," then, an unfamiliar voice interrupted your daydreaming. "Is this spot taken?"
A stranger has made there way here. In a place with clear signs that this was a private beach.
You gave a sigh and pushed yourself up.
"Yeah, spot's taken," you waved behind you, "might want to go elsewhere. It's a private beach."
"Wait, really? Well, can I stay? It's not like you anyone needs to know. You don't really need all this space to yourself right? See, it's my kid's birthday and I wanted to bring the family somewhere really special and--"
Then, there was a dual harsh clicking, right from the throats of Jade and Floyd as they crawled from the waters they were just splashing around in. Jade came to your right side, Floyd covered your left. Water dripped off of them both and right onto your skin.
"…holy--"
A hand landed gently dug its gray fingers into sand and your once guppy dragged himself out of the ever-deep ocean. Deliberately slow, both to not make the waves blanket you while you're relaxing under the shade and also to establish a presence.
You would scold him, but Azul's entirely too in character to really listen. He, Jade and Floyd. Look at them all. Jade was curling his large tail this was and that around your legs to truly make his size and length known. Floyd was grinning and looked three seconds away from slithering right up to this stranger and squeezing him just for the fun of it. And Azul…
Azul didn't do anything besides plop his chin on his folded hands, oh so politely lowering himself just to meet the gaze of this stranger who wandered into this spot snagged. His smile wasn't wide but it was there. Empty, not a shred of warmth in there, but charming to those that don't know him.
"My, I wasn't expecting a guest at all, especially not on this private part of the beach," without the water and layers of barrier to separate you all, Azul's voice was sharper than you're used to. Weird. "Had I known ahead of time that strangers were prone to just wandering into places they're not supposed to be, I would've prepared some entertainment."
Ah. He's angry. Just angry and annoyed. Doesn't see this person as any sort of threat or danger, otherwise there wouldn't be any words. There would only be odd masterfully manipulated waves as they avoid you, but drag this stranger under into the dark depths of the sea.
"Should I do the honors and receive this guest?" Jade gave a wide smile, baring his teeth, "I'll be sure to give them the warmest of welcomes."
"Oh come on, isn't it my turn this time?" Floyd clapped a hand on Jade's shoulder, "I'm sure this little slug could do with some squeezing."
"Stop that," you sighed out, kicking Jade's and Floyd's tail off of your legs. Ugh, they're all slimed up. You didn't get up, just lifted your head to look at the slowly retreating stranger, "Yeah, you might want to leave. Public beach is a ways down from here. Hope you can snag a spot for the birthday celebration."
"Thank you so much sorry to bother you have a nice day!" Apparently that was all the permission they needed to make a mad dash out of here. Well, as much one could dash on dry sand and sandals.
"Oh dear, they tripped," Jade noted, "should I help them up?"
"Jade," you warned.
"I'm joking, dear Caretaker," he injected a lot of fondness in that sentence.
But yeah, a joke. Sure.
"Alright, now then," Azul, let the facade drop and rolled his shoulders, not used to his true weight on land, "let's leave the Caretaker to their relaxing while we take a swim, shall we?"
"Huh?" Floyd, not in the mood, flopped over right over your thighs. You made a noise of discomfort, heavy as he was, but Floyd ignored you. "I don't wanna. I'm tired of just swimming and hunting."
"Really now, why must you be like this?" Azul sighed, tired of his antics, but then something caught his eye in the distance, "Would you say no to chasing boats?"
Now that caught his attention. "Oh? Where? Let me see."
"There, that red dot in the distance," Azul didn't finish before Floyd dragged himself back into the water. He speed off and soon was out of line of sight.
"Hmm, I wonder if they'll have anything interesting on their vessel," Jade follows after, a little slower.
"Azul," you called to him before he could sink back under, "come here."
Just his face alone was enough to give you all the shade you needed and more. He leaned in close, wanting to hear every word that comes out of you.
"Yes?"
"Make sure none of you get into legal trouble," because attempting to stop any all trouble all together was just not going to happen. May as well just settle for this instead so it doesn't go back to you.
Azul gave the softest of laughs. "Well, if that boat is so willing to risk fishing in protected waters, then they shouldn't be afraid of the consequences that may happen. Of what may lurk in the seas they treat as an untouched treasury."
"Azul."
"Fine fine, but I won't make promises."
Eh, that's enough for you. Trying is better than nothing.

7:35am Tuesday 6th May 1890, 221B Baker Street, Marylebone, Westminster, London, England.
You wobbled onto your feet as Mrs Hudson entered the apartment with a scowl... probably because of something Sherlock said to her in passing the stairs.
The old crow’s frown spirited away when she noticed you were awake and outside of your bedroom.
She smiled warmly in fact and bid you a good morning. You returned the expression as she came and collected the breakfast plates.
Your fingers trailed over the countless of papers on the table and the sleek wood of his violin.
Shuffling through each parchment and a sigh drawled from your lips.
“Mrs Hudson,” you hummed as she passed you, “I request you show me the expenses of the household purse.”
It was a common duty of a wife nowadays to keep track of all home expenses.
She paused and her eyes widened, her mouth flapped open and closed quickly again. Her teeth grimaced and her bony finger wagged, “I am afraid my dear, they are in Mr Holmes bedroom, and as I said yesterday, he can be an incredibly private person.”
His bedroom? Oh yes...he kept it locked. But by god you needed to get to the bottom of this theory you were building in your mind. You were married and a married couple shouldn’t withhold secrets.
“I am his wife, I am the second close thing to the holy trinity in his life now,” you snorted softly as you collected all the papers on the table and made a neat single pile, “I will see the documents and understand his predicament.”
“And which predicament may that be?” the housekeeper inquired as she laid down a fresh virgin cup to pour scolding tea from the hot teapot.
“Enola mentioned something about debts,” You clutched the front of your dressing gown to contain some decorum while you sat back down and gestured to the chair beside you for her to sit in as well, “his foul dismissal of my presence suggests not only disdain of our union but in addition a set of a secrecy and disfavour I will not permit in my marriage.”
You needed to know exactly how much debt he was in. You were willing to part some of your dowry to pay for it if you could. His aggression was surely caused by the stress of these debt...if you could lift them off his shoulders, mayhaps he would be kinder, gentle and respectful.
She passed you the cup and saucer while she took to pouring herself a cup. The elder woman smiled giddily.
You were pleased that there was no judgement of your modesty before her. It was a fine change compared to your strictly grandmother who would berate you if you dared leave your bedroom under dressed.
The elder cradled her cup and lowered it carefully, clearing her throat, “Mrs Holmes...”
You blinked...you believed you had asked her to not call you by your new name, out of friendliness.
“Mrs Hudson?” you queerly answered.
“Before your marriage,” her lip curled inward and her fingers lightly tapped her cup, she looked to the tea and quickly glanced up at you, “The detective entertained himself in some...appalling activities. I think it best not to open those locked pasts for your own sake.”
Appalling activities...in a world of proprietary that could mean anything...you did have your thoughts...you were only surprised that the notorious detective would risk tainting his reputation with some illicit practice.
You swallowed dryly before sipping lightly at the tea. You licked your lips and sighed shaking your head, “Speak plainly Mrs Hudson.”
“Oh please,” She prayed mortifyingly, “I daren’t repeat it.”
It wasn’t difficult to see the pink rising in the pale wrinkled face of Mrs Hudson.
You leant over the table and used small tongs to pick up a sugar cube and clenched your jaw. You wouldn’t play in another game of riddles, especially not with a elder woman with a privacy for embarrassing details. The sugar fell into the cup with a soft plop in the awkward silence, a ticking of the clock caught in your ear.
“Tell me or leave Mrs Hudson,” you pinched the papers on the desk , “I have documents to find and unless your words hold any meaning, do not bore me with unheard gossip.”
Her beady blue eyes under her spectacles fluttered, her lips parted at your stern tone. She inhaled deeply and looked around the room before leaning in closer to you.
She said in a hushed whisper, “My dear girl, your husband is a whore mongering, drug addicted gambler.”
Now that was a surprise to hear fall from her wrinkled lips. You pinched your forehead and rubbed thoughtfully. How would you handle this type of man?
You glanced at her with a small grin.
“Was- Mrs Hudson,” You corrected, tapping the table with your knuckle, “I will not allow such boyish whims into my marriage,” you wagged your finger at her and flashed her a devious smile, “He shall need to divorce me if he wishes to continue such behaviours, it might be harder for me to remarry but I trust not a single woman would last longer than me as his wife.”
A small laugh came out of the woman who gave you a dramatic military salute, she grinned and chortled, “Well, I admire your determination, but however will you enter his chambers? He has the only key.”
Your chest deflated, she was right. How would you? You chewed the inside of your cheek and looked over your shoulder to look at the closed bedroom door on the far side of the wall beside your own.
You slowly pushed up to your feet again and trapesed back to your bedroom, “Mrs Hudson, wherever did you put my hat box?”
The elderly woman put down her cup and swayed inside to follow you, she pointed to above the wardrobe. Standing on your toes you palmed the box down and laid it on your unmade bed.
Mrs Hudson was opening up your wardrobe and peeling through your hanging hooks of dresses and coats.
“My dear, surely you’re not intending to go outside in your frail condition?” she muttered as she trailed a fresh chemise over her arm.
Shaking your head you jerked you chin, “No Mrs Hudson, indoors I will remain.” Your hand clenched your lower belly with a hiss as a nasty cramp prevailed, “I don’t recall entirely but I believe a doctor was here last night, said I have begun my menses for this month.”
“I can see dearest,” Mrs Hudson hummed, pinching at your dressing gown...you had bled through it. A wet crimson patch stained the white cotton. You balked and flushed.
“Best get it off now,” Mrs Hudson winked, pulling it back and off your naked shoulders, “I’ll make you some packing.”
You shuddered and gasped at how forward your housekeeper was presenting. Respectfully speaking, you wondered if Mrs Hudson had been a ladies maid in her earlier years before her own marriage.
You tiptoed to the water basin on the vanity and squeezed the clean cloth inside of it. You cleaned the red and burgundy chunks and stream between your thighs. Your washed your hands back in the water and faced Mrs Hudson sheepishly. She smiled and pulled the chemise over your head.
“Let me roll some packing,” she said, pulling a bandage from the top drawer of the vanity and folded it into a flat palm of thickened fabric.
You shoved it up against your intimate flesh and squeezed your thighs together tightly.
Mrs Hudson then found a sanitary apron in the same drawer and helped tie it behind your back.
“Mrs Hudson you are a fine woman of elegance and saintly kindness,” you exhaled, “Thank you.”
“I remember when I was a freshly married girl,” She clucked happily, “My dear friend was a constant visitor and helped me with these things. Mr Hudson grew very jealous of our time together,” she sighed, “Now, do you require a corset my dear?”
You shook your head and plucked your fingers, “I shan’t accept any visitors, and in my sickly state it would be kinder to leave it be if I should make a mess of my inconvenience.”
If your stomach threw up from the stress of your internal curse, you didn’t want to wash through the delicate fabrics of your whale bone undergarments.
You found a loose blouse and black skirt to pull and button onto your body. You pulled up a pair of stockings.
You sat on the bed as Mrs Hudson buttoned your shoes up with a hook. As the kind older woman did this gradually with her small fingers and greying eyes, you pulled the lid of your hat box away.
You pulled out a long metal stick...
A sharp hat pin.
“There we are, all done and ready for the day!” the housekeeper announced, rising to her feet.
You rose up with her and smiled, “Please Mrs Hudson, might I burden you with making another pot of tea?”
She beamed and nodded.

08:45am Tuesday 6th May 1890, 221B Baker Street, Marylebone, Westminster, London, England.
You were grunting on your knees before Sherlock’s locked door. Your hat pin jammed into the key hole. The tip of your tongue stuck out the corner of your lips as you shuffled the metal and tried to carefully listen to the locking of the inner gears.
Little did anyone know...this little talent you learnt on your own... Breaking into your grandfathers wine cellar was not a overexerting task when you were fifteen. It wasn’t a desire to rebel, rather a desire to educate yourself...you wanted to be seen as intelligent and knew your wines.
It wasn’t too long before you came to hate the bitter taste...and then found your grandfather’s rum drum.
When he found you, he didn’t not strike you and decided the headache you received in the morning was punishment enough for your sinful deed. And for a whole week he made you drink a cup of the stuff every night, to teach you why alcoholism was not befitting for a lady...
You smirked at the memory. Perhaps it was unorthodox. But it was kinder than a lashing or earful from your grandmother.
It was just one of many secrets between the both of you.
The loud click and sliding of the last inner lock made your eyes sparkle. As you twisted the handle the door peeled open with a awful squeak.
“My lord, what a mess!” you gasped.
The room was in a disarray. A smell of mould and death hit your nose. You gagged and felt your belly churn.
There was cigar burns in the rug, papers, news papers and books thrown about. There were plates that were piled up in the corner on a desk and there was a dirt dried mud trails...
The curtains were stained and the dust was unbelievable. When your finger ran along a small stand beside the door your finger came back looking pitch black with the soot.
You sat back and stood up. Piece by piece you picked up all the papers and went to his filing cabinet drawer, it was empty! Of course it was empty, all the contents had been tossed about, decorating the room messily.
You fingered the massive haul of papers and sighed, you would need to organise them all...
Taking them back out to the dining table you started to arrange piles of parchment stacks. Receipts, paid and unpaid, by date and purchases. Your eyes catered to the numbers, you fetched a notebook to tally the expenses and sighed, cupping your mouth every so often at his choices of spending.
You were so caught up in your own thoughts and game of pounds, shillings and pence, you hadn’t heard the return of Mrs Hudson with a fresh pot and tea set.
“Dear me,” she said clicking her tongue and shaking her head, “It looks like you’ve got your work cut out! Now what’s all this?” She asked picking up a receipt off a pile.
Rolling your shoulders back she smiled proudly at the organisation of affairs. You gestured to the individual sheet stacks.
“Ah sings Den, Cocaine Tooth Drops, Black Shag Tobacco, gambling...prostitutes,” you chewed your lip worriedly as you glance back at the small note book you write on with a blunt pencil, “He has wracked up a wicked sum...”
The housekeeper put the receipt back and sat beside you after pouring you another warm tea, this time she added the sugar cube for you and stirred.
“How much?” She whispered looking over the thick almost book like mountains of papers.
Since the new year began...Sherlock had designed quite the irresponsible money expenses and debts...
£5.65 for the Opium Den experience.
£3.25 for the Cocaine drops
£10.41 for the tobacco.
£120.78 for the overall gambling.
£150.33 for his Mayfair Row whores to Madam Adler.
Total: £290.42....
You felt your lips tighten, your belly squeezed. You paled and frailly held the cup to your lips, softly blowing and softly stating, “Perhaps that number I will keep to myself Mrs Hudson,” you pushed a pile close to her and tapped at the top, “Be not alarmed however, he seems to dedicate his rent responsibly to you.”
She chortled and shook her head, “Oh I don’t mind that, I trust him to,” her eyes narrowed at the
Mayfair receipts, “I just never liked the company he brought home.”
Your eyes widened and it was like air had been stolen and kicked from your lungs, “He brought...” you choked, shutting your eyes, “Those...those women back here?”
She grit her teeth and finished her tea, “Yes, they leave like newborn foals with wobbly legs.”
When Mrs Hudson caught your worrisome eyes she gasped and tapped your hand softly, “Forgive me, I needn’t provide details.”
You pursed your lips disapprovingly before conceiting, “As much as it is wounding to hear, it is unavoidable,” you sighed and poured yourself another tea, “As his wife it is best I know everything about my husband and if he is to keep secrets from me,” you shrugged, “However shall I be a decent partner?”
Mrs Hudson put her cup aside demurely and leant closer to you. Still in her hushed tones, ashamed of the secrets she was sharing...but her eyes were full of excitement, perhaps this gossip was something she needed off her conscious.
“I would hear them in the night, screaming...I thought he was killing them,” more colour was flushing back into her face. A rosy hue dusted her nose and cheeks, “I am thankful every time when I would see them leave with smiles on their faces.”
You sat back in your chair abruptly and looked at her curiously, “Screaming and smiles?” You whispered under your breath, “How peculiar.”
It wasn’t possible. Did he hurt those prostitutes like how he had done to you? How did they walk away with smiles? Was it because he paid them? Not even you could think how to muster a smile after experiencing such awful tortures.
“I thought perhaps, he did what he had done onto you my dear...but when I saw the blood and your lack of pleasantry, well, I can confidently say-”
You slapped your cup on the saucers hard enough for a loud clatter, you said tightly, “Mrs Hudson I’d very much prefer to forget yesterdays events, if you don’t mind...please do not refer back to them.”
The mention caused a spike of pain inside you, reminding you where he stuck his hot selfish poker.
The elder woman grew quiet for a moment. She looked off at the window in the distance and then down at her cup.
She nodded and tried to share a soft smile, “Apologies for any offence.”
A stab of guilt panged in your chest, you hadn’t mean to be so rude to her. Your nerves were in a terrible mood. In a moment you would be happy and then the next you would feel worrisome and hungry. Perhaps you might’ve grown to be afflicted by the disease of Hysteria?
Oh Hysteria, what a terrible condition...you dreaded the thought of need to go for a medical massage. One of your female cousins had been to one and her description made it sound both enlightening and frightful. In fact she said it felt like she had died and gone to heaven and returned.
All of which made you scared beyond belief.
“None received,” you pat her hand and brought her palm to your lips, “You are a kind Christian and for that I say god bless you Mrs Hudson.”
She smiled warmly and stole a soft kiss to your cheek, all was forgiven between your temper.
“Oh my dear, I must additionally confess,” she stunningly proclaimed, “Sherlock doesn’t attend church.”
Your brows rose, “What?” You snorted through a laugh, unable to comprehend her truth, “Don’t be ridiculous, what upstanding gentleman doesn’t attend church?”
You giggled and cheerfully wiped a tear away, your sanity returned when her face had remained stone solid. She did not find it funny and you realised finally it was because in fact not a joke...
You glanced over the papers...back to the number on your notebook...ah of course...no god fearing man could sin so easily...waste away fortune so carelessly and spend it on unnecessary frivolous activities.
“I think that might be the answer to your own question. The Doctor Watson wrote his newspaper articles and depicted him London’s hero. He can be truly a godless man. Frankly I believe he’s a sadist.”
You tilted your head at her and drank some of your tea.
You hummed and held a finger to your lip in thought, “Yet you said those women had smiles on their faces when they left?”
Mrs Hudson shook her head curtly and smirked, “Well I think I’d smile too with the amount he probably pays them.”
Laying your elbow on the table with your chin on your head you looked at the brothel papers, “You are right...they are over priced...Mayfair Row...they’re quality...but nonetheless still he pays them far too much.”
Your husband was an exuberant tipper when it wasn’t his money. Mayfair Row...you hadn’t been inside the Dove club where Sherlock spent most the wealth...but you knew the average price of a whore...it took you back to a time...many, many years ago...back when you believed you had a mother that loved you...back when seeing a naked man behave like an animal writhing on-top of her was your normal life. Where you mimicked the actions with your cloth doll that you carried everywhere. You tried to remember the name of that doll....Susie? Harriet? God only remembers now.
They weren’t pleasant memories...the stench of mud, the screaming of women, the yelling if men, the bite of hunger and the itch of lice in your hair and fleas covering your clothes.
You shuddered. Thank god you still did not live with her anymore. It was the only life you knew in those days but suffering is suffering and you amazed you how long you survived in such conditions.
The elderly woman looked into the pot and sighed at the low level of tea.
“I am surprised you know so much about them,” she casually noted, glancing back at you.
You realised how strange you must’ve sounded...you heart began to race. You grimaced, annoyed at yourself for being so relaxed you lost thought of your own words.
“Call it a terrible interest Mrs Hudson,” you licked your bottom lip and lied, “I was a reader of Josephine Butler’s work on her dismantlement of child sex work.”
She nodded slowly, clearly Mrs Hudson had no idea who Mrs Butler was...you felt a twinge of agitation for the uneducated.
You tapped your fingers nervously on your cup again and off handedly asked “Do you know if there are anymore receipts I might find Mrs Hudson?”
“No idea I’m afraid,” Mrs Hudson said as she noticed your cup was finally empty. She collected the tea set items and placed them on the tray. You turned in your seat and looked back at Sherlocks open door, there was still so much mess. You shook your head.
Before the housekeeper left you touched her arm.
“Please fetch me a broom and cloth and clean water.”
She followed your gaze at his room and warmly cupped your face, “Dear, perhaps you should lay in bed for a while, you shouldn’t be working so perilously in this physical state.”
You smiled and held her hand, rising out of the chair. You walked back to his room and called over your shoulder, “I would rather clean my husband’s hovel. No wonder he’s a beast considering he lives like one.”
You could hear Mrs Hudson cackling behind you as she went back down stairs only to return with your requested items after a while.
A clean room might clear his head, calm his woes.

12:23pm Tuesday 6th May 1890, 221B Baker Street, Marylebone, Westminster, London, England.
After hours of sweeping, dusting, mopping, washing and organising Sherlock’s room you tiredly flopped back on his mattress and yawn.
At this rate you considered a small nap was required. Except you knew yourself, you knew if you stopped your progress you’d be discouraged to finish.
There was one last thing to organise after folding and hanging all his clothes. At the foot of Sherlock’s bed was a large chest. It could be easily mistaken for an ottoman. Maybe they’re would be more debt documents or clothing in there.
You crawled down and climbed off his bed to crouch beside the chest. You clicked the latches open and lifted the lid slowly.
Inside were sinister objects...you gasped...too shocked to even close the chest. Rope, shackles, knives, long thin sticks, a riding crop, a whip, a bridle you knew deep down was too small for a horse and meant for a human...smaller boxes with printed words....rectal dilators and hysterical paroxysm vibrating aid. And the illustrations...
There was a book you were reading...you weren’t really thinking, you were just curious of the horrid that might follow within...
Men and women, all nude, illustrations and photos of them performing elaborate sexual deviancy. Your eyes widened and your breath caught in your throat. Between your legs the buzz of arousal enlightened to your belly.
There was a woman who was tied up in ropes in star like patterns being mounted by a man who held a riding crop in his hand. You paled thinking he was beating this poor woman...and as you read the words, it was discovered she enjoyed this...took pleasure in the agony??
It was very confusing for you to read such hypocrisy.
Who would enjoy being hurt like this?
And as you read more and more, the deeper into this strange arousal you sunk into.
There was a illustration on a woman holding her lover’s intimate member in her mouth. And another where the same lover was licking with a long snake like tongue at her clitoris.
Your thighs squeezed tight and you groaned as a cramp rippled through your body down to your knees.
Hearing your name on your housekeepers lips tore you away from the novel. You threw the book back inside the chest and shut it hard. You felt short of breath and grasped the wood of his canopy to stay stable before leaving his chambers.
You told yourself that it was wrong to be looking at such art and imagery of lust. A part of you however desired to peak back inside...curiosity was your master and chastity your mistress. So who would you listen to first?
Your eyes fluttered shut.
You met the elderly woman out in the sitting room where she was dusting at the unlit fireplace mantle... She was moving little trinkets and photos.
Within the centre of the mantle stand was a frame containing your own portrait. You had the image taken at a tintype shop over a year ago. You stood beside Mrs Hudson as you took in the reflection of yourself. You smiled at how brilliant it captured your likeness. You were still confused how it worked, something about sand and light...your grandfather stood aside that day and said he would be sending the image to his son to remind him of you, his daughter...you were embarrassed to say the least but dared not argue with his wisdom.
Well it seems your father didn’t get the photo...or perhaps he send it back. Now Sherlock had it in his ownership.
She smiled at you and ran a hand softly down your back and said, “I just wanted to ask if you liked mutton dear, I hope to cook some this evening for dinner.”
You smiled with relief, you told her, “I am ever grateful for any food you provide my husband and I, thankyou Mrs Holmes.”
The elderly woman eyes widened with joy. She turned on her heel, taking the bucket and cloth with her.
You looked over at the table covered in receipts she had kindly left untouched.
“Mrs Hudson,” You called after her as you stepped hastily over to a side board bureau and began to write up a cheque, “is there any chance you will be attending the bank today?”
Facing you she pat the door handle and exclaimed, “No, however I can stop by if you need me to, I am officially in need to buy some fresh mutton from the butcher.”
You smiled at her cheery attitude. You filled out the numbers and printed the expenses. You tore it away from the book and held it out to her.
“Fantastic...here. Take this.”
The housekeeper stepped closer and raced her eyes over the cheque. Her eyes blew up wide at the price you had written out.
“I don’t quite understand...” she shakily stated.
You sighed and clapped your hands as you went to finally sit down on the lounging chaise. It wasn’t hard to admit you needed the rest with how your head spun. You were dizzy and it was possibly from all the cleaning you had conducted and dust you had inhaled.
“Sherlock needs to be rid of these debts and I need to rid of his temper...my dowry Mrs Hudson I pray brings me peace.”
Yes, you were sure of it. Your very expensive dowry...you were going to pay the debt off and help your husband become less of an animal. Perhaps you might convince him to attend church.
“Mrs Holmes,” your housekeeper stammered, “I would advise you hold onto this...please...you cannot just-”
You cut her off dignifiedly, “Mrs Hudson, this cheque card will enter the bank whether by your hand or mine. And before you have insisted I rest. So please if you care enough for me, you shall hand it in on my behalf.”
Her face was flushed and her eyes shut tight. She shook her head disapprovingly while muttering
“Very well dear girl, I hope you know what you are doing.”
Out Mrs Hudson went, and down you went. Your face pressed into a cushion. With your eyes fluttering shut, you feel back into the darkness and peacefully slept, listening to the wafting sounds of Baker Street flow from Sherlock’s bedroom window.

6:00pm Tuesday 6th May 1890, 221B Baker Street, Marylebone, Westminster, London, England.
Sherlock still had not returned home from his morning flee. As Mrs Hudson laid out a plate of roast and potatoes with gravy she assured you that Sherlock had a habit of staying out for hours. Whether for a case or his own pleasures and addiction.
On the table in front of you was the paper bank statement, it accounted that the cheque had been entered and applied to the debts.
Now the Sherlock Holmes was a debt free man...
After you finished your dinner, Mrs Hudson kindly helped remove your shoes and change your bedding. You were redressed in a night gown and over your shoulders a warm dressing gown.
You now only wore a sanitary apron to protect yourself from your blood.
All his paid debt receipts were in a folder, you stared at that manilla folder smugly. Your left it on the table as you went to inspect the book shelves on the far wall near the entrance of the home.
You looked at the many novels on the shelves, now some of them being the ones brought over from your grandparents estate. On quick flicking through pages you found most of them being related to science, language and anatomy. Glancing back at Sherlocks open door, you thought about the book in the chest. That was more than just an anatomy book...
You squeezed your side, you were feeling a spike in temperature and a shortness in breath reimagining those images...those words.
It wasn’t the smut novella Fanny Hill, but it stoked fires inside you much like it. You knew it was something you probably shouldn’t have come across, because you shouldn’t have been inside his room, touching his belongings.
You had to. It smelt like something had died.
You prayed this would sort him out. You could only hope that the years ahead would not be so testing.
You had a list of mental rules. You may be his wife and beneath his status, however you would not just stand back and watch him act a fool and fall victim to further ridicule in society. You would not sink in the same boat again. You were excluded from many balls as a teen when some wicked foul mouth girl had revealed the secrecy of your parentage.
Your step mother was only eleven years older than you, so really...there was no possibility of pretending to be her child. Everyone in high society of they knew you, knew what you were. And because they knew you were treated like a unspeakable burden and unwanted pet at parties.
It wasn’t a mystery to you why you started playing the role of a wallflower at only fifteen.
You refused to allow Sherlock to bring you to such shame in society.
The heavy foot steps outside the close door alerted you to an approach made by someone other than Mrs Hudson.
With the loud snap of the handle and click of the lock, in entered a breathless giant. Sherlock.
He tore off his hat and coat and only after hanging the items on the rack by the door did he acknowledge you with a small nod, “Mrs Holmes,” he bid. Under his arm you noticed was a paper wrapped package.
You heard him march through the house towards the middle room and heard him swear under his breath, follows by a repetitive “no no no.”
You heard him frantically skid around the carpets and floor boards of his own room. He was tearing open and slamming drawers and wardrobe doors.
“What the hell have you done! What have you-?”
Storming out of his room, you gasped at how his face reddened and he continued shouting, but thankfully not at you. He raced to the front door and tore it open screaming down the stairwell,
“Where are you woman!? Mrs Hudson! You shrivelled cow!”
You slapped the book in your hands shut, regarding him disdainfully, “Our housekeeper is not to be rewarded by your insults.”
The turn around he made was slow as realisation came to his heated face. The snarl was replaced by a begrudged sneer as he scoffed, pointing his finger sharply back in the direction of the bedrooms, “...You did this destruction?”
“Destruction?” You whispered. What destruction had you done?
As he approached, you unconsciously took a step back and nervously licked your bottom lip. You felt air being pulled from you as he towered above and stabbed you beneath a invasive gaze.
His darkened eyes looked across the light material of your nightwear. His fingers tugged the book out of hands and pushed it back into the shelving where it belonged.
You decided you needed to stand firmer against him, You craned your head back and stared up at him.
“H-hardly...I have organised. Cleaned.” You took another step back and felt the wood of the display cabinet behind you dig into your waist.
“By subject,” you felt his body press up against you, what the hell was he doing? Trying to intimidate you? You were hardly dressed compared to his full clad attire. It scared you. He looked formidable, like he was going to tear you limb from limb, his nostrils flared. Your insides jumped and that buzzing feeling ran through your lower half. God...why did this of all things arouse you?
Your throat felt shaky, “then- then ah numerical dated followed by alphabetically.”
You glance him over and blinked at the red spot on his chest, was it ink? No, ink isn’t so dark....under Sherlock’s jaw was a scratch, a slight discolouration to his skin and under his hair curl on his forehead as another mark.
He leant down and pressed his mouth to your ear, “Do not ever enter my chambers or touch my belongings without my permission again.” It was a mix between a whisper, an disciplining snarl, and a lusty moan.
It left your knees feeling bloodless. Your own eyes shut closed at the hot breath that breathed into your lobe and hair.
As he pulled back, he stood away and for the first few moments you needed to remember how to control your breathing.
He looked over the dining room table and slid the thick folder closer to himself.
“And what is this?” he asked you.
“Your debts,” You swallowed and wiped your palm across your forehead, a trail of sweat drenched your hand, “Paid for.”
He smirked and shook his head, “Mycroft.”
“No,” you bluntly said, smoothing your hands down your dress to rid of the wrinkles that rose up. Seeing how your nipples had hardened beneath your nightgown you pulled the dressing gown tighter around you and crossed your arms protectively over your chest.
You looked at his body hunched over the table and blinked at the white marks over the edges of his dark navy suit jacket. It looked like flour...except flour had a tendency to clump. His nails were also clean of any baking incredibly. But his finger pads on the wooden table left little faint prints...
“You?” he chuckled condescendingly.
You nodded, “Yes.”
His laughter quickly fell away, his head snapped up fully to look at you, his brows knitted together,
“Why?”
His lips settled into a frown.
He put his hands on his hips, a power play...he was trying to show confidence, dominance...perhaps in response to your arms folded over your chest.
It would’ve been good to just tell him the truth, but to explain it to him would be impossible. You chose to simplify the answer...
“Easement on your consciousness?” You offered dryly. It wasn’t a total like, the less stress, the more relaxing and kindness....right?
His mouth twisted into a snarl, “Why you insufferable little-”
“Where did you go today?,” you pondered, cutting him off from finishing his insult, “A school?”
He jerked back slightly, he tilted his head and narrowed his eyes, he took a deep breath and cupped his hands behind his back, “Excuse me?”
Good, he was calmer now.
This time you took to action...you stepped forward and sighed solemnly pinching one of his vest buttons.
“Chalk, on your cuffs. You smell like sweat in a teenage boy rather than a man. You’ve also had a scuffle with someone much shorter than you from the marks on your neck. Your shirt has a speck of what I believe is blood and the button is loosen,” you pinched and ripped it from the shirt and it’s faint loose thread.
“Fret not...” you smirked and pat his chest, “I will mend it should you ask.”
His hands came around and squeezed your forearms, his head moved back a little. He was perplexed...a light upturn in his lips revealed his sudden amusement.
He lifted a hand up and gently touched your face. He was breathing in a controlled state. You felt the intimacy of his closeness without fear of his wrath.
“No...” he drawled, “I was at Scotland yard. A poor deduction...” his thumb ran across your chin, “dear wife.”
You felt your heart pick up as his soft hand touched your face, you tried looking away from his staring eyes. Sherlock’s edged closer to your lips.
“Poor deduction but I am not stupid,” you consoled.
His lips broke into a wider smile revealing his teeth, he chuckled, “...I beg to differ.”
He moved abruptly back and fled to escape to his rooms. You knew his intention perfectly and chased after him, emphasising, “You had almost three hundred pounds in debt Sherlock. I at least know how to wisely spend my money.”
He spun on his heel and snapped at you, pointing harshly at your chest, “oh ho! Playing this game then are we? With your dowry gone, you have nothing left. I’d hardly call paying off my debts which were none of your concern, wise spending.”
You grabbed his finger and announced softer, serious and less aggressive, “Indeed, which is why I implore you to cease all further transactions in regards to your addictions.”
“Do not patronise me wife,” He scoffed and rolled his eyes tried tearing his hand away but your grip on his index finger tightened and the both of your grunted.
You grit your teeth at him, “Do not patronise me husband.”
He sighed and wiggled his finger from out of your hand.
He dusted his hands on his waist coat and huffed. He peered at you with a mischievous gaze.
“My debts...they included my friends...yes? From Mayfair?”
Oh that was cruel indeed. Mentioning those women when you were married to him. You wouldn’t dare let him threaten you over them.
You fought the urge to hit him and stomp your foot. You turned away from him and quickly composed yourself. Hastily you plucked some matches from the small box ontop of the fireplace mantel. You struck a small flame and tossed it into the fire place where you discarded some old newspapers as kindling.
“Yes,” you admitted tightly, “I know about your scandalous behaviours and forbid you from consorting in that demonstration again.”
He pushed passed you and unbuttoned his jacket and vest fully. He draped them over the back of one of the lounges, he pulled up his trousers slightly as he sat down.
He chuckled, “You forbid me?”
You glared at him and shot back up off the floor. You squeezed your eyes tightly as you firmly dictated, “I am the only woman to ever receive you carnally from now on.”
He smirked and spread his legs wide, folding his arms on his chest. He jerked his chin up at you and clicked his tongue, “I don’t believe you know what that means. Believe me little lamb, my fidelity is that last thing you’ll desire...or did you not learn from yesterday?”
You rolled your eyes and shook your head.
“I stand by what I mean Sherlock. You will not commit adultery while married to me,” you snapped. You wanted control, this would not be taken from you if you could help it.
“Or what?” He laughed, he then condescendingly moaned, “You’ll tell my big brother?”
As he went back to his smug chuckling you clenched your fists and stood over him. You weren’t thinking straight. Only a red shade cast in your eyes. You grabbed his collar and tugged him hard, spitting down at him with full anger as you threatened, “...Or I will kill you.”
He stopped laughing but didn’t stop his smug smiling. His hands came up and grabbed yours, prying them from his shirt.
“Barely been forty eight hours of wedded bliss and you desire to murder me. Ha! I now owe John five pounds,” he looked down at your chest which you realised was hanging in a uncompromising position. He could see right down your chest practically to your third rib with your lack of supporting chemise. Sherlock tongued the inside of his cheek and hummed, “My word.”
You gasped with horror and attempted to rip away from his hold, you grunted gruffly, “You are a pig Sherlock Holmes!”
He pulled you forcefully downwards and made your knees buckle. Your chest fell into his and you both hissed at the impact of crushing into each other.
Lewdly his hot wet tongue licked its way from your neck up to your earlobe while his hands pushed your thighs up to straddle over him, his fingers sharply stabbed into your backside under the night gown.
“You have absolutely no clue to what I am little Lamb.”
You tried pushing off him immediately, and felt his arm wrap around your waist and trap you against him.
Your legs so wildly spread and pressed against his trousers made you feel like you were riding on a horse.
Despite the plethora of farm animals you could compare in his and your name, you had both your wrists this caught in his one hand.
“Go on,” he chuckled as you struggled against him, “Tell me how you would do it...,” he taunted,
“How would you kill the great Sherlock Holmes, London’s finest Detective?”
You shrieked as you felt crushed under his baring arm, “I can think of many ways!”
“Well go on,” he smugly waited with raised brows, “Tell me.”
Your eyes rolled and you whined when he dug his nails into your wrists.
“I’ll push you down the stairs!”
He barked with laughter and shook his head, “You cannot be sure the fall would kill me, perhaps I might be paralysed, with many broken bones, but no no, I also don’t think you have the strength to push me around anywhere, look at you right now.”
“Fine!” you yelled, “Ill stab you with a knife!”
“Ah a violent approach, but what of the blood?” He grabbed your hip and moved you to grind your centre down on a lump in his trousers, “Why, even those idiots in Scotland Yard would figure out it was you; blood staining the clothes, carpet and blood beneath your nails, and where would you ever be able to hide the weapon?”
“Sherlock! Let me go or I’ll poison your tea!” you whined terribly.
He bit his lip and shook his head at you, “Oh dear Mrs Holmes, it’s possibly the most common death among an unhappy married couple. Wives are known to favour poison greatly.”
You heaved as you tried to catch your breath. You fell forward a little. Your sweaty forehead touched his.
“Please,” you whined, “let me go. All I want is you to be a civilised man and honour our marriage bed.”
He looked down at your parted lips. He looked back at your chest and shut his eyes.
“You want me to give up my whores Mrs Holmes?”
You gulped and nodded, “Of course.”
When he opened those blue orbs with the brown flecks, he whispered, “I promise to forsake them...if...”
“If?” you stammered and narrowed your eyes.
“Hush!” He reprimanded, “I promise to forsake my whores on Mayfair Row...If I can have my whore of Baker Street.”
Before you and time to reply and question what he even meant, he stood up and tossed you onto the floor. Sherlock crawled over you and pinned your flailing hands above your hand.
“You want to please me, please your husband, Mrs Holmes?” he gasped as his other hand went groping and squeezing around your soft body.
You weakly nodded, your head rested on the floor trying to get back the breath he knocked from you when he pushed you down.
You hissed softly, “Please, you’re hurting me.”
His hands loosened but held you trapped to the floor.
His lips danced over your cheek, “Then you will need to perform like a whore for me.”
A sobbing cry ripped front our chest, unsure of his real intention you quickly jumped to the conclusion of his implications.
You choked and shook your head, “No! I am not going to become a prostitute!”
He cackled at your fearful cry.
“No, this body belongs to me,” he said as he pinched the strings of your night gown and pushed the material away to show off your bare breasts.
His lips wrapped around your right nipples and sucked hard, tickling you with his tongue tip. Tears started to well in your face. You didn’t understand what he was implying to do to you. It tickled and felt so warm.
You were scared. You knew some men of the world were evil. Evil husband’s that pimped out the women they married. You couldn’t imagine being so intimate with another person. You couldn’t imagine succumbing to the agony you received the night before by Sherlock’s hand.
Kicking your feet across the rug and tried pushing your body from under him. He grunted as your nipple left his lips. He pressed the hand hard on your hip and affirmed, “Keep still, little lamb.”
“Sherlock,” you started to beg on a whimper, “Please, stop! You are frightening me, you’re h-hurting me!”
He looked down at you, his hair falling slightly on your head. His smile wavered as he took note of your tears and wobbling lips.
His gaze softened along with his voice, “...be completely honest with me.”
You nodded desperately, “I will, I will!”
“Did you look in the trunk at the foot of my bed?”
The chest full of explicit items and torture devices.
Your eyes squeezed tight and you exhaled, “I did.”
He smirked and let you go completely, standing up and held his hand to assist you too. When you were finally upright, he pinched your exposed nipple. You shrieked.
“I am a man Y/N, I have needs. I expect you to fulfil them earnestly if you desire I abandon my charity to Mayfair.”
You tried pushing his hand back and covering your breasts with the dressing gown. He smirked and shook his head at you, “No, no, let me see them.”
The silence was vile. The crackling of the fire place was the only ambience that showed attendance.
You couldn’t do it. It was wrong to be so exposed beyond the bedroom.
He waited and when you showed no sign of showing him, he sighed and nodded, “Very well, good night Mrs Holmes, I will call upon my friend Irene.”
He walked around you and journeyed to his open bedroom door.
As if all colour drained from your face you feverishly held out a hand and quickly called, “Wait, please! Look!”
You all but chased him into his own bedroom. He snapped his head in your direction. You stood in the centre space between his bed and the door.
He raised a brow and watched almost unimpressed as your trembling fingers shed your dressing gown and pulled the neckline of your night gown open...there he could finally observe your luscious breasts.
“Why Mrs Holmes,” he mused, sitting on his bed and peeling his cravat off his neck, “Your teats are exposed, careful,” he sarcastically warned, “One might mistake you for a slut.” You felt breathless and curled your lips inside.
You couldn’t believe it, you were letting him hurt you in a new way. You were letting him bully you. It wasn’t right and you desperately hated it, but what else was there except to let him defile and destroy your holy vows?
“Is that a sanitary apron on your waist?” he question, pointing at the lump under your gown.
You nodded, “I am still bleeding husband...”
“Do you know what that means?” Sherlock said unbuttoning his shirt.
Your licked your lips, folding your arms behind your back you tried hard to not cover yourself,
“My body is extinguishing my mental illnesses.”
He smirked and rolled his eyes, “Your medical knowledge is dated, but that is not what I implied...I meant that you should come to your knees and perform fellatio.”
Your eyes widened...fellatio was such a naughty word to hear let alone say. It was the type of practise in the book in his chest. Oral sex. Seeing the woman hold her male companions member appeared lewd and distasteful.
You hadn’t thought of ever doing it yourself, it served no purpose in procreation with god.
Flustered and shy, you cupped your hands over your face to think.
Sherlock’s voice was softer this time. He wasn’t mocking you as he explained, “I will not force you to do this Y/N, you do not have to if you do not want to.”
You shook your head and scowled at him from your hands, “But I do! I don’t want you to ever lay with a woman other than me! I am-“ you choked on some on coming tears, “I am your wife Sherlock, please...promise me if I do this you won’t lay with another woman.”
He unbuckled his trousers and sighed, “Then get on your knees,” he pulled out his semi hard rod, “and kiss your husbands cock.”
You looked over your shoulder at his door and then back at him.
Would you do this? Humiliate yourself in promise of keeping his vows loyally to you?

“oh cmon, you’re telling me you haven’t thought about dating me at least once?”
not again. “no atsumu, you font think i have known you too long to not have realised how you act? i hate to say it but you just aren’t my type.” you’re lying. you have had a crush on him since your last year of middle school, however, miya atsumu may possibly have one of the most annoying personalities you have ever had the misfortune of coming across. for the past month he has taken pleasure in flirting with you to elicit a reaction and so far it hasn’t worked.
so far.
today you decided it was the perfect time to fluster him, i mean it would only be fair to flirt back with him after he has been trying to get your attention for so long, right?
“wow yn you’re going to break my heart, i get i can be a bit much but you don’t find me handsome at all?” the shit eating grin on his face somehow makes him look even more attractive, it highlights the warmth in his cheeks and brings out very faint crow’s feet that just look gorgeous on him. he’s making it way to hard now, you have to flirt with him.
“i mean you are very attractive atsumu, only an idiot would be dumb enough to lie about that.” you’re strategic with your moves, you have seen the way he reacts with his fans so you know the best ways to make him blush. simply placing your hand flat on his chest and staring at his lips for a few seconds is enough to give him a rosy complexion.
“you have such a pretty face, especially when you’re blushing, god i could look at your for hours,” oh he is red now, the plan is working. you start to run your hands down his abs very faintly, he can barely feel the touch of your fingers but he knows its there, he so badly wants to see where his stomach connects with you, but he cant seem to pull his eyes away from yours. “and don’t get me started on your voice, or that amazing body of yours.”
if he were to actually listen to what you are saying he would hear the very obvious sarcasm placed right in front of him, but right now he’s too busy trying to restrain himself from grabbing both sides of your face and kissing you in front of all his teammates. he feels your feather light touches start to ghost up to his head where your fingers make home in his yellow blonde hair, slightly scratching at his scalp in a way you know has him itching for more.
“yn…” he breathes out, he doesn’t really know what he would even say to you, but before he can even think of a sentence you’re starting again.
“and your hair, i love it, the way it compliments your eyes so perfectly, and how soft it is. i think—” your words are cut off by the ringing of the msby jackals gym bell, telling the team its time for a break from practice.
“oh, sorry tsumu,” removing your hand from his hair, he looks sort of disappointed, its cute to say the least. “i have to go help coach foster get the next activity ready.”
and so atsumu is left there completely stunned, a little sweaty and very red, although he claims its just from the intense practice. the only thing he can think to do is grab his phone and open the team groupchat to confess his dying love for their manager.
miya atsumu
holy shit guys
you’ll never guess what just happened

*wrote this for @vecnuthy's birthday, so here you go babe! i baked you a word cake 🥰🎂* *ao3 link here*
Nobody gets cool shit on their birthday after the age of sixteen - Steve stands by this statement firmly. That year, he got his permit. And by yuppie parent default-mode, he also received his first car.
He almost, almost had a quarter-life crisis on his twenty-fifth birthday. Steve was seconds away from buying a motorcycle. Robin was very dramatic about this decision, kept threatening to order his gravestone if he followed through on an impulse purchase.
This, however, would’ve nullified his Adults Get Lame Birthday Gifts theory entirely. So Steve apologized to the salesperson, and tucked his credit card back into his wallet. Robin canceled the order on his gravestone as well, thank god.
Gifts have continued to be lackluster every year since then. And his 30th birthday is no exception to this rule.
A gift card from his parents. A pair of athletic socks from Dustin. And a t-shirt from Robin. Essentially, the starter pack of Welcome to Adulthood.
Except for one minor detail:
The shirt from Robin is exceptionally soft. Bamboo fibers or something, he wasn’t really listening to her description. Even the color is soft. Muted red, almost pink. Everything about it is soft. Airy.
Touchable.
Okay - that’s not an observation Steve makes upon receiving it. But it’s one that Eddie Munson will never let him forget.
The first time it happens is a week after Steve’s birthday. The two of them hit up a bar on the outskirts of town. A place Eddie frequents a lot, occasionally dragging Steve along as his Token 9 to 5 Friend.
“Welcome to the Dirty Thirty Club, man!” Eddie crows, already diving into Steve’s atmosphere for a hug.
“Thanks! Good to see you, Munson.” Steve chokes out, returning the massive hug with a single pat on Eddie's back.
The guy always gives the most suffocating hugs, fucking cages Steve into his arms and steals the breath of out his lungs with one squeeze. Steve has to inhale through his nose, smells the soapy steam rolling off Eddie’s skin.
Shower. Eddie just showered before meeting him here. It’s so fucking clear by the way he feels damp, smells clean.
Steve hates that he notices that. Wishes he didn’t care about Eddie’s hygiene schedule. But the scent of shower gel is addictive, breathing it in fast. Big gulps of fresh air. Lungs extending like they can capture Eddie's atmosphere and keep it there.
Okay, seriously. Steve thought his Eddie Munson Crush had been buried with the rest of his trauma back in 1993.
“Dude. This shirt is so soft, holy shit.” Eddie is rubbing his hand all over the back of Steve’s shirt, fingertips pushing into the fabric.
“Uh yeah. Sure is.”
Eddie must’ve blazed up back at his place, it’s the only reasonable explanation as to why they’re hugging for this long. Gotta be some strong shit too - strong enough to make him sound completely blissed out over a damn shirt.
He’s is humming now, both hands petting Steve’s shoulders, one on each side. Pinching the material, twisting it till it curls around his index finger.
“Gotta get me one of these bad boys.” Eddie chuckles, turns it into a playful growling sound. “Could touch this all day.”
“I don’t doubt it.” Steve does an awkward wiggle out of the embrace. He looks down at his shoes, cheeks growing warmer as he continues to take Eddie’s words entirely out of context.
Look, the sensible part of his brain knows that Eddie is talking about the shirt. That’s it. But the insufferably needy and more prominent part of his brain wants Eddie to be talking about himself in general.
That he could touch Steve all day long - shirt or no shirt.
Right. Steve needs a splash of water on his face. Could use a splash of water on his goddamn imagination too. Dilute the delusion for christ’s sake.
It happens again about four months later. Lucas invites the whole crew over to throw a surprise party for Max’s promotion at work.
Of course, Eddie is running late - he didn’t fail senior year twice solely from his shitty GPA. But showing up late to a surprise party? That’s a new level of risky. Not everything has to be a thrill-worthy adventure. Ugh.
“Max should be getting off work right about now.” Lucas explains, peering around the living room. “So everyone should head to your designated hiding spots.”
Nobody budges, just carrying on with their conversation.
“Alright, asshats - you heard Sinclair!” Steve snaps at each of them, glares for good measure. “Find a hiding spot or get the fuck out.” He gives a quick nod to Lucas, who still looks severely stressed, eyes ready to bust out of his skull any minute.
The coach-esque threat does the job. Everyone, ducks into place, voices descending into whispers. Whispers descending into shushes as the minutes draw closer to Max’s arrival. Steve is folded up behind the couch, arms wrapped around his knees.
There’s a small creak coming from the front door. A few people yell 'surprise.' Steve peaks to the side to see Lucas shaking his head at them.
“No, nobody move.” He instructs, voice caught between a yell and whisper. “I was just letting Eddie inside.”
Instinct takes over. Steve twists around the corner of the couch, needing to see for himself that Eddie is here. That he really came.
Clearly, he didn’t move fast enough. Although he could’ve sworn he moved so embarrassingly fast that the vertebras in his back sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies (post-milk).
But no one is there. No Eddie. No Lucas. No one.
“What the-” Something grabs the back of Steve’s shirt, pulling at his collar. A few people start aggressively shushing him.
“Chill out, Stevie.” Eddie is right there, meeting Steve’s face with a lopsided smirk. He’s close, way too close. Still holding the collar of Steve’s shirt with one hand, stretching it out. Keeping them close.
“Just trying to check the tag,” He releases Steve just an inch or so. His voice is so hushed, the quietest Steve has ever fucking heard it. “Wanted to see where I might be able to purchase such a godly article of clothing.”
“Ever heard of a thing called boundaries?” Steve hisses, swatting a strand of Eddie’s hair out of his face.
“Doesn’t ring a bell, sorry.”
They haven’t talked much since that night, barely any interaction for four months. But watching Eddie lean in, angling his head lower to study the tag on Steve’s shirt, hot breath on his neck…
It resets the clock. Flips the hourglass on Steve’s feelings for him.
He’s infatuated all over again, and all it took was Eddie invading his personal space. Just like he always does.
“You’ll have to ask Robin.” Steve whispers. Tries not to flinch when Eddie smooths Steve’s shirt collar back into place. “She’s the one that bought it for me.”
“Damn. Buckley has good taste.”
“Sure does.”
No distance is created. Neither of them move away. Eddie’s eyes continue to sketch over every stitch in Steve’s shirt, every hemline. He seems hyper fixated on it, too fixated to notice Steve’s pink-ish cheeks, thank god.
If it weren’t for the shirt, Steve would assume Eddie is checking him out, looking him up and down with a heavy gaze. Dark pupils, casted darker by the dim lighting.
“Can I?” Eddie raises a hand out to Steve’s shoulder. He pauses, lifts an eyebrow at the end of his question.
Steve’s jaw is too tight to answer or counter back with a joke about how Eddie never asks permission before popping personal bubbles. All he can do is nod a little too eagerly.
Eddie reaches into Steve’s sleeve, rubs the material from the inside. A small grin forms on his face. He looks so pleased, purely amused. That’s enough to untangle Steve’s muscles, relaxing under Eddie’s light touch.
But that’s the other thing. He’s barely touching Steve. Every now and then, his knuckles roll over Steve’s skin. Really, that’s it, that’s all he’s doing. And god, Steve craves more.
Eventually, Eddie switches it up, pinching the material between the pads of his fingers. He scoots closer to Steve’s side to do so.
Time feels paused. Time feels rapid. It’s going nowhere and already slipping through his grasp. All Steve can think about is placing his hand underneath Eddie’s chin, bringing his lips up to his own. Kissing him till the clock stops ticking. Till the sand stops running.
“Softest shirt ever.” Eddie gives the material a slight tug. Smiles wider.
Steve gulps. “If you say so.”
“I mean, seriously - it must be made from the glow off an angel’s halo or something, cause damn.”
“You’re a trip, Munson.”
Steve has to keep telling himself that Eddie is obsessed with touching his clothes - he’s not thinking about taking them off of Steve. No matter how much he wants that to be the reality of the situation.
It’s not.
They stay like this till the doorknob clicks, turns. Steve almost forgot that he was at a party, surrounded by other people.
Immediately, all of his senses flip back into Extrovert Autopilot. Everyone jumps out, yells a combination of surprise and congratulations (because they failed to coordinate that apparently).
He stays in this zone for the rest of the party. Talkative and breezy. Charming the pants off Max’s coworkers with silly little anecdotes about her as a kid.
Steve is damn good at hosting. It’s probably in his white-collar bloodline or some shit. Still, anytime Eddie walks by, he glitches up. Temporarily out of sync.
He doesn’t get a chance to say goodbye. Eddie ducks out early, waving broadly before slipping through the front door.
Time does that weird thing again. Feels paused and rapid all at once as he watches the door shut behind Eddie.
“You okay, man?” Lucas nudges him.
“Yeah.” The gentle gesture returns time back to normal. Brings Steve back into this moment.
“Doing just fine.”
It’s all he thinks about for weeks. Anytime there’s a lull at work or a commercial break on television, Steve drifts. Pictures Eddie is in his shirt, the one he’s so obsessed with.
At first, it’s just that. Basic. Eddie standing in front of him, wearing that muted red, almost pink, shirt. Sometimes smiling, sometimes expectant. Either way, it’s always enough to make Steve’s neck feel flushed, creeping up to his cheeks.
Gradually, it evolves into something more complex. A fantasy, almost dreamlike. He imagines Eddie running his hands all over himself, his torso, his chest. The thin material of the shirt moving and shifting under his palms. His head tipping back, lips plush and red from where he’s gritting down, biting hard. Holding back sounds.
Those images get Steve in trouble. Panting on conference calls and boners at his work desk.
He’s alone in his apartment when it grows, branches off into darker urges. Desires. Steve glances down at the floor, can’t help but wonder what Eddie might look like down there, staring up at him. Wearing Steve’s clothes. Begging Steve to take them off. Rip them, ruin them.
“That fucking does it.” Steve scolds himself, scolds his dick too. He’s calling Eddie Munson right now - before he has time to overthink it.
His hand is trembling as he picks up the house phone, dials out the number he didn’t even know he had memorized. The trembling thing is kinda embarrassing, but it's still better than sticking it down his pants and jerking off while the Cooking Network plays reruns in the background.
Every ring feels drawn out. Stretching time like taffy.
Eddie picks up on the fourth taffy-length ring. “Eddie here.”
“Hey, man.” His voice comes out all strained, bone-dry.
“Shit. That really you, Harrington?”
Apparently his voice comes out unrecognizable too.
“The one and only.”
Eddie snorts loudly into the phone speaker. “Doubt that very much - seems like a common enough name.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever, smartass.” Steve rubs his neck, scratching his skin. Working his way to extracting the words out of his throat. “So um… you busy tonight?”
“Nope.” Eddie answers.
“Cool. Me neither.”
There’s silence after that. Well, almost silence. Just a slight hissing sound from the phone line can be heard. Not enough sound to make things less awkward though.
Steve has no good reason to be so antsy, so wired with anxiety. They’ve been friends since metaphorical shit hit the metaphorical fan back in ‘86. So being outwardly weird around Eddie? It’s too damn fishy.
“Is that it?” Eddie says. “Did you just want to bond over our empty schedules?”
Of fucking course, Eddie would call Steve out on his weird bullshit. Doesn’t know subtlety if it bit him in the ass.
Bad time to think about Eddie’s ass.
“Come over.” Steve blurts out. Needs to say something before a parade of ass-centric images start back up in his mind. “I ordered way too much takeout and there's a stack of movie rentals that I need to binge to minimize those late fees, so yeah… come over.”
No response, even the background hissing from the speaker cuts out. Maybe the phone line went dead. Or maybe Eddie hung up. Wouldn’t be the first time he’s abruptly ended a conversation, perpetually flouncing to whatever is new and shiny. Always distracted.
“What kind of takeout?” He finally responds.
“The Greek place with the kickass tzatziki sauce.” Steve smirks, already knows the answer before Eddie can utter another word.
“I’ll be there in an hour.”
Eddie arrives in less than an hour, actually. Knocks on Steve’s door exactly 51 minutes after Steve gets off the phone with him. It’s slightly disturbing that Steve suddenly turns into a math whiz when he’s fawning over someone.
Someone that fawns over his clothes more than him, but who gives a shit about logistics?
“Fucking starving.” Eddie says, slamming the door behind him.
Steve smiles, motions his head toward the kitchen. “Help yourself, dude.”
The plan is so stupid. Half-baked at best: get Eddie out of his shirt (and jacket), and into Steve’s shirt instead. That’s it. That’s all Steve’s got so far.
But it’s better than nothing. So what the hell? It’s worth a shot.
He waits until Eddie has stuffed his face with a decent amount of spanakopita, fully reclining on Steve’s couch. Looks incredibly comfy, too comfy to move.
Good.
Steve grabs the strawberry sorbet from his freezer, the one Robin forced him to buy after going vegan last spring. He scoops a bowl for himself and a bowl for Eddie. Exhales the last bit of his self-respect before returning to the living room with the most boring dessert option ever.
“Here you go.” Steve says.
Eddie scrunches his nose at it. “The fuck is this?”
“Sorbet.”
“Why am I not surprised that the former rich kid prefers sorbet over ice cream?”
Steve sputters, takes the bowl back before it further offends Eddie somehow. “That’s not… I didn’t… it’s actually-”
“Deep breath, Stevie. I’m just teasing you.” Eddie yanks the bowl back, shovels a brain-freezing amount into his mouth. “Far too easy, by the way. Give me a bit of a challenge next time. Makes it more fun… for one of us, at least.”
“Fun. Sure.”
“The one of us being me.”
“Got that.”
Steve decides to take Eddie’s ‘challenge’ remark as the perfect cue to set his stupid plan into action.
Steve pretends to shift around on the couch cushion, getting situated. Does this until he ‘accidentally’ fumbles the sorbet. Spills it all over Eddie’s clothes, his distressed black shirt, his dark gray sweatpants. All of it. Makes a much bigger mess than he intended to.
Eddie jumps up. “Goddamnit, Harrington!”
“I am so sorry!” No he’s not. If anything, his apology is more smug than sincere.
“This shit is sticky as hell.”
“Really sorry, man.” Steve hands Eddie a few stray napkins, like that’s going to make a difference.
“Don’t be. It was an accident.”
Except it wasn’t. It was one of the most juvenile tactic that Steve has ever pulled. Truly, it tops the overused movie theater-yawn tactic.
“Here - let me get you a change of clothes.” Steve offers, already heading to his bedroom. He’s walking and talking and fucking fidgeting. Suddenly paranoid that Eddie can see right through him, see all his desperation on display. Splattered everywhere like strawberry sorbet.
He turns back around for a split second. “I’ll throw those in the wash. Have them dry and ready to wear again by the time you head out.”
“Oh…” Eddie keeps patting down his clothes with a sopping napkin, barely listening. “Yeah, sure. Thanks.”
“No problem.”
His acting performance is fucking dismal. Over the top. Porno-level obvious. Must be karma for all of those times he gave Robin and Eddie shit about being in an improv club. Makes a mental note to never mock their nerdy hobbies for the rest of his life.
“Well, it must be my lucky night.” Eddie calls out from the bathroom door, causing Steve to wince at the sheer volume.
“What makes you say that?”
“Bestowing the holy grail of shirts upon me? Allowing me even one hour in downy-soft paradise?” Eddie is using that tone, the one that’s boozy and savory. Borderline mean. Equally hot and annoying. “Possibly the greatest of olive branches you could’ve offered up.”
“Christ, you’re dramatic.” Which is so hypocritical after the stunt he just pulled.
The bathroom door swings open and nothing could’ve prepared Steve for how good Eddie looks in his clothes. The shirt is snug through the sleeves, loose through his chest. Makes Steve realize how differently built they are. The waistband on the athletic shorts is sitting low on his hips, maybe a size too big. If they were any bigger, they’d slip right off. Landing all tousled around his bare feet…
Okay, Steve has got to snap the fuck out of it. He rubs aggressively at his eyes. Needs soap or military-strength detergent to fucking cleanse whatever is going on with him lately.
“We could watch something.” Steve says, even though that’s exactly what he’s already doing.
Watching.
Eddie shrugs. Leans against the wall. “We could.”
“Or… I don’t know.” Steve can’t rip his gaze away from Eddie’s arms. His pale skin looks even lighter against the reddish tones. The waves and curls of black ink look even darker. Just a splash of color has turned him into a landscape of extremes.
“You don’t?”
“Um…” Steve flops, flounders. Scrambling for an idea. A coherent thought. Anything. “Cards. We could play cards.”
Eddie’s forehead wrinkles, then quickly straightens back out. Nodding politely. “Sure, we can do that. If that’s what you want to do.”
Steve mumbles something about grabbing a card deck from the storage closet, although he’s pretty sure it’s unintelligible. Makes a quick escape, jogs at the weirdest tempo known to mankind.
Flirting with a longtime friend is throwing him for a loop. Many loops actually. Theme park amount of loops. All of his usual ease and charm are being denied access. Not tall enough to ride this ride.
The closet is packed with junk, so finding a deck of cards is obnoxiously difficult. He’s tossing coats into piles and shoving shoes into corners. Between his nerves and his determination, Steve is working up a goddamn sweat.
“Need a hand in here?” Eddie’s voice startles him. Steve jolts backwards, straight into a shelf of puzzles. Tons of pieces go flying, some landing in Steve’s hair. Redecorating the fucking closet with tiny bits of colored cardboard.
Fantastic.
Eddie backs away, arms crossing into his chest. “Jesus, man. You’re freaking me out.”
“Sorry.” Steve says. Shakes the puzzle pieces out of his hair.
“Is it the shirt?” The question sounds genuine. No jokes, no sarcasm. “Does it look that bad on me?”
“Oh.” Steve doesn’t know how to respond. The shirt looks amazing, that’s not the problem at all. It’s just… “Um, actually-”
“Look, I know I’m not a pastel heartthrob.” Eddie gestures directly to Steve before waving his arms around. He starts pacing in the tiny closet, just ranting away. “And let’s fucking face it. I’m not getting any younger, so I doubt I can pull off this slim-cut style the way I used to… but come on. It can’t be that repulsive, right?”
“Eddie.” Steve frowns.
“Shit, that bad?” Eddie smacks a hand to the top of his hand. Grabs a fistful of his hair and looks down at the shirt, still rambling. “We’re using first names now? What’s next? Gonna bust out my full legal name? My birth certificate? Then we’ll really mean business.”
Okay, yikes. And Steve thought he was the stressed one. This is going south very, very fast. He needs to curb the self-destruction that’s happening in front of him. Just… reach out.
“Hey.” And Steve does. Literally. He places a hand on Eddie’s shoulder, sucks in some courage. He waits until Eddie makes eye contact, breathes at a less neurotic speed. Then he exhales all the courage. Turns it into honesty instead. “You look… you look good.”
Eddie scoffs. “Yeah right.”
“No, I mean it. It’s different. But in a good way.” Steve skims his nails against the fabric, drawing shapes into Eddie’s shoulder. “I like it.”
“You do?”
Steve nods. Bites down on his lip, flicks his eyes to Eddie’s mouth. “Like it on you.”
The energy between them is thick, clinging to Steve’s skin. It’s new except it’s not. Steve has felt it before. At the bar, the party, that random Thursday in 1993. He recognizes the flex and curl in his stomach as Eddie takes one step forward, then two. The feeling is familiar and strange combined. Knotted tight.
Eddie raises an eyebrow before taking another step. Like the day behind the couch. Quiet permission, one he doesn’t ask for often. Only when it means something.
Steve lets the hand on Eddie’s shoulder fall slowly. Catching the material at the bottom, tugging it forward. Prays to fucking god that’s all the permission Eddie needs.
“You were right.” Steve lets his hand drift back up, landing in the center of Eddie’s chest. Wrinkling and smoothing the fabric underneath. “It really is soft.”
Eddie’s breath hitches up. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” Steve’s voice drops lower, richer. “Could touch this all day.”
Eddie thumbs over Steve’s bottom lip, drifting into the small space between them. He places both hands on Steve's cheeks and kisses him firmly. Steve presses in deeper, breathes out through his nose so that he doesn’t have to break away.
It’s so good, kissing like they’re teenagers behind the bleachers. So swept away in the heat and hunger that they’d be late for class. Showing up to study hall with blotchy skin and achy lips. They keep kissing just like that. Feeling, exploring. Lingering in all the areas that seem to make the other person hum or gasp.
“Steve.” Eddie whispers. His hands push up into Steve’s hair, combing it back, pulling in down with an edge. Hard enough to make Steve tilt his head, mouth dropping open.
“Yeah?” Steve replies. Barely a question, too lost in the feeling of Eddie’s lips on his neck.
Eddie rubs his mouth over the edge of Steve’s jaw. “You’re so…”
The sentence stops right there, never gets finished either. He nuzzles over the wet spots of skin covering Steve’s neck. Marks them all up with a gentle nip, not enough to leave bruises. Just enough to make Steve shiver.
Steve is making so many breathy noises, which should be humiliating. Pathetic for someone who’s had fucking loads of first kisses, even more makeout sessions.
But none of that really matters, his age or experience or slutty track record. Nothing counts when being kissed like this. Nothing can stop Steve from taking this moment, eating up all of the sounds and sensations.
Fuck, he wants all of it. Wants Eddie closer somehow, on top of him, beneath him, surrounding him.
He can’t stop tugging at Eddie’s shirt, well… his shirt. No doubt that it’s stretching out, close to ripping it. Keeps pulling it anyways - dragging Eddie into him till Steve’s back is pressed up against the wall.
“Come here.” Steve curls a finger under Eddie’s chin, brings his face back up to him. Not nearly done kissing him stupid, square on the lips. His mouth is warmer now, a few degrees hotter from sucking Steve’s neck. Licks into Steve’s mouth, gets him to whine at how good it feels.
The washing machine timer goes off, buzzing throughout the whole apartment. But Steve can’t let this end, he can’t.
Except for the buzzing won’t let up. Continuously interrupting all the delicious noises that Eddie makes whenever Steve bites over his bottom lip, gets it nice and puffy between his teeth.
“Should we...?” Eddie smushes his nose into Steve’s before motioning to the door.
“Yeah probably,” Steve unclaws his hand from Eddie’s waist. Kisses him once more before sliding out of reach.
As he walks down the hallway, heading into he laundry room, he hears it. Eddie’s voice, still inside the closet. Chanting the same phrase over and over again:
‘Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. Holy fucking shit!’
Steve cracks a smile. Kind of hard to believe his heart is chanting the same damn phrase. So full of adrenaline, fucking crumbling under this wave of raw emotion.
Really, he never thought he’d find himself in this situation. Holding Eddie’s clean clothes in one hand, thumbing over his kiss-bitten lips with his other hand. Impatiently craving to get back to where they left off, hopefully on the couch or bed or floor this time.
“Hurry it up, will ya?” Eddie whistles behind him.
“What’s the rush?” Steve tosses the clothes into the dryer, doesn’t turn around because his self-restraint will be fucked if he does.
“My lips are getting cold.”
“That’s the best line you got?”
“For now, yeah.” Eddie says. “You sucked out all of my brain cells with your mouth. Can’t expect me to be Swayze-level smooth after something like that.”
No way he’s allowed to be so damn cute comparing himself to Patrick Swayze. As if they're even in the same league. Endearing, really.
“You can head back to the living room. I’ll be there in a minute.” Steve pushes a few buttons on the dryer. The timer starts, another reset on the clock.
Feelings that flip the hourglass once again.
He really fucking hopes it never runs out this time.
Eddie is perched on the floor, flipping through the channels on the tv. He's squinting at the harsh light because for some insane reason, he always insists on watching the tv in total darkness.
Even that’s cute now. Annoyingly cute.
Steve joins him on the floor, instantly slouching into Eddie’s arms because he can do that now. Completely allowed to be sweet and gross and smitten.
“Guess my theory was wrong after all.”
“Hm?” Eddie replies, still mindlessly channel-surfing.
Steve gives Eddie a quick kiss on the cheek (because he can do that now too), and looks at the shirt. Muted red, almost pink. Soft and touchable. “Apparently, you do get cool birthday gifts as an adult.”
“What are you mumbling about?”
This thing between him and Eddie. It feels longer than running sand or ticking timers. Longer than their years of friendship. Maybe not timeless…
“I’ll tell you later, Eddie.”
But pretty damn close.

[You could be mine...] 🎸🎤🎶
fanboy!König x GN!rockstar!Reader || [Part 1] [Part 2]
Tumblr media
[SFW/Wholesome] ; no usage of y/n, gender neutral pronouns, insane rocking out!!!, author has never been a rockstar or to a concert 😔, not proofread, written at 12 at night
[A/N] ; i was just really obsessed with the idea of König absolutely flooring it when he gets to meet his favourite rockstar!!! And then rockstar reader has to sign his forehead or smth
ALSO this is probably one of my first *longer* little drabbles so congratulations to msyelf for writing more than 3 sentences and not taking a nap!! 🎉
Tumblr media
You stepped out onto the stage to a roar of fans. Hundreds were in the crowd screaming your name. Many scrambling to get to the edge of the stage and see you in full.
You greet the crowd enthusiastically, a gentle breeze flowing through the locks of your hair and tickling the ends of your shirt. With one strum of your guitar, the crowd goes wild, chanting and waving lights.
Not long after, your band begins playing. Drums, electric guitars, keyboard, and your smooth vocals, all come together to form song after song. Before long, the concert is almost over.
Sweat drips down your forehead as you pant, tired after jumping from end to end of the stage to interact with fans. You scan the crowd, at the front of the pack, barely hidden by spectators is a massive man, donning your band’s shirt and hat. You quickly snap your focus back to the blaring music behind you, more cheers erupting as you play the final song of the night.
You finally drop your mic. Singing a farewell to the horde of people as you leave the stage. Your shirt is soaked, hair damp and cheeks red. You high five your bandmates before disappearing into your area to change. The memory of the man still filling your memory as you wear a fresh shirt and pants, smooth your hair and dry your dewy skin.
Rushing out one final time, you find the long line of tables where your bandmates await you.
The obligatory autographing session after every concert. Tiresome, exhausting, but also something you look forward to.
Mindlessly scribbling your initials on albums and shirts, and thanking fans, you greet the next fan. But, when you look up, instead of seeing his face, your band’s logo crows your vision.
Your eyes trail further upwards before they land on a pair of crystal blue, anxiety-filled pupils staring back at you.
“Oh- Hello!” You croak out. It’s the man from earlier, and he’s so much more massive than you thought.
“Wow, big guy huh?” The words leave your mouth before you realise.
He stares at you silently, nodding frantically after a few seconds of awkwardness.
He’s not much of a talker, huh.
Desperate to ease the tension between you two, you flash your signature charming grin before speaking,
“Name?” You smile at him.
Once again, a few seconds of silence before another frenzied nod.
“König.” He says in a thick accent.
“Sorry? Repeat that would ya?” You turn your head to the side, leaning your ear into him.
His eyes widen before he comes a little closer and places his hand on the sides of his mouth. It was only then that you noticed how large his digits were. Each finger must’ve been at least one of yours and a half. Yet despite their size, he was trembling. Vibrating even.
He yells (or more accurately, speaks at a normal level) into your ear,
“König.”
You blink at him.
“Coonisch..?” You repeat at him confused. How do you even go about spelling that?
“It’s German.” He clarifies meekly.
Well that explains it.
He shakily places an album onto the cloth-covered table, then another, then another, then another, then one from your band’s first show and- holy shit, this dude must be a big fan. Physically and music-wise.
You reach your marker out to begin signing the stack before you freeze as he reaches into his bag and pulls out… guess what, another album! Then some faded polaroids that you faintly remember taking on stage before throwing them out into the crowd… then a small band facts book… exclusive posters, and some CDs still in the wrapping! When he finally stops digging around his bag, you finally notice the wide array of vibrant pins and badges stuck to his leather satchel. Unique pins from the early days of your music and badges that were never made again after the first drop. This man is beyond a fan.
He chuckles nervously as he noticed your wide eyes and slight gaping mouth. You were literally in the band but still you weren’t even sure you had some of the merch he did.
“All right… Coonisch… How do I… spell… that?”
“K-Ö-with the two dots above it-N-I-G.”
Oh.
“You want that on… everything..?” You gesture towards the stack of albums, posters, and pictures.
“Yes.” He responds. You can almost see his wide grin through the balaclava he wore.
You sighed, clicking your pen and getting to work. By the time you finished the last poster, he was practically vibrating.
“I take it you’re a big fan?”
He nods wildly again. Eagerly stuffing the pile of merch back into his bag. Once he’s all packed up, he doesn’t leave just yet. His eyes contemplate before he opens his mouth again.
“Can- Do you- Hand- Is it okay if you… shake my hand?!” The last part comes out a bit too loud. His eyes widen again, tips of his ears turning a light shade of pink as he lowers his head.
“Of course. Least I can do for a fan like you.” You beam at him. His eyes immediately return to their squinted eye-smile state as he holds out his jittery hand.
You slowly wrap your fingers around his (giant) ones and give him a firm, tight, shake.
“That good?”
He nods madly, eyes joyfully squinting. He looks like he just went to heaven.
A string of giggles leaves your throat. You can’t hold it back. He looks confused for a moment before chuckling himself, realising how much of a fanboy he must look like right now.
“Well, hope to see you around again, König.”
He thanks you profusely, bowing and nodding his head. He almost left before he froze, turned and quickly dropped something onto your table. You swear you could see him floating with stars in his eyes as he walked off.
You stare at the tiny red present box for a second before pocketing it and signing the next bunch of albums and posters. Before long, it was an hour and a half to midnight and you were tucked up in the back of your band’s van.
Squirming to your side, your brain replayed the interaction between you and König. Every timid word he spoke, his boyish mannerisms, even the look in his eyes as you shook his hand.
It was starting to get difficult not to think about him.
You felt your pocket for your phone before realising that the gift he left you was still unopened inside of it.
Quickly, you pulled it out, gently unwrapping the carefully lined paper and undoing the small ribbon.
Inside, the most precious necklace laid. Engraved with your initials and band’s logo. It was a locket in the shape of a sparrow, your favourite bird. You clutched the necklace, grinning from ear-to-ear as your cheeks burned.
Then, you noticed something scrawled at the bottom of the box.
A phone number.
You smiled so hard your face hurt.

most of the kuwei hate in this fandom is absolutely racially motivated and most of it is probably subconscious but i NEED to talk about this.
and not because i think people r thinking "i hate kuwei!! he's asian and i hate asians!!" tbh most anti asian racism on the internet goes way deeper than that.
basically, what i believe to be the most prominent type of racism against asians, especially on the internet, is stereotyping. specifically "uwu-ification." the east asian entertainment industry likes to paint asian people as cute, submissive and sweet because it markets disturbingly well to american audiences, and whether people mean to or not, they internalize it and it affects the way they think of asian people as a whole. This mostly happens to east and southeast asian women, but definitely a lot with men too, especially in more recent years with the whole yaoi culture thing (i fucking hated typing that) becoming more popular. simply put, it's fetishization.
so how does this relate to kuwei? well, when kuwei is introduced to us, and im not gonna dance around it— he is pretty stereotypically asian. he's shy, innocent, small, good at math/science and— you guessed it— no speaka engrish. leigh bardugo lays the perfect trap for fandom white girl weeaboos to gush over this guy. once i came across a modern au where kuwei's whole northern chinese-mongolian ass is a "shy japanese transfer student." i really wish i was making this up.
but then we find out that kuwei is actually a conniving little shit who is really quite terrible at science and spends all day making shitty drawings of his crush instead of doing math or wtv. The turning point where we are told this is the jesper kiss. This is the point where we find out kuwei is not the yaoi uwu baby we thought he was. and how does fuckin 2/3 of the fandom react?? hate. instant hate. If you search "i hate kuwei" on twitter there are tweets both defending and attacking him, but there is significantly more of the latter.
most of them claim to hate him for kissing jesper but like... jesper kissed him. He doesn't say anything because, in his own words, "we're all probably going to die anyway." does no one see how tragic that is?? he let his first (probably) kiss be taken by someone who he knew didn't even like him because he thought it would be the only one he'd ever get.
and yet the only thing people see is that he "got in the way" of wesper and he's evil. throughout the series kuwei is given no agency, and that's the point of his character. everyone on the planet treats him as a weapon or a bargaining chip. he gets tossed around like a rag doll and to white (or otherwise not asian) audiences, that makes him the perfect picture of a little asian cutie i almost vomited typing that holy shit. but the moments where he takes something for himself— insisting on going to ravka, kissing jesper back— that's what makes people hate him. and don't even get me started on the way people project their hatred onto the other crows, especially wylan. yall will act like wylan loathes kuwei with all his being. he doesn't!! wylan is not a hateful person and he always defends kuwei!! but nooo, kuwei sucks and he deserves it for daring to be a person instead of an idea.
and hey?? guess what?? kuwei was NEVER in the way of wesper. there was no love triangle. narratively speaking, there was never any threat that kuwei would end up with jesper instead of wylan. never ever. the kiss was literally only put there to create drama for wylan and jesper. we never even hear how kuwei feels about it. stop using that as an excuse to hate on kuwei when we can all see it's because you're subconsciously mad at an asian person not being nice.
also disliking kuwei does not automatically make you racist, im just saying a lot of hatred towards kuwei is rooted in racism.
tagging my fellow aapi moots (that i know of) because i wanna hear yalls thoughts on this! @hauntedacousticversiontv @dramaqueentruther

Goats, Crows and The Flood
Or why Crowley turns the goats into crows in the Job minisode
If you're reading that and thinking "eh, what's the Flood got to do with it?" then read on. It wasn't done just so Crowley got to change his name. It's never as simple as that. C'mon now, this is the GOmens AU, I'm not going to write a meta about something like this and not give you at least three if not four layers as to why, now, am I? Certainly not, and this one won't be any different.
Tumblr media
Recently I picked up a book that has been sitting for far too long on a pile near my kitchen that needs sorting through called Parallel Myths* and in it is a section on Flood myths. (It's got lots of other good bits as well, but the Flood myths are what I want to talk about here.) The Flood is a wide-spread myth, with stories all around the world from India, to the Greek myths, to the Incas and Aztecs and in North America as well.
There are four stories that include crows as messengers who are sent to look out for land. The first is our familiar bible story. Oh, did you miss that bit? Yeah, I know, you keep getting told about the dove that represents the holy spirit that came back with the olive branch. Why would they want to tell you about a dirty old crow? And why is that crow dirty anyway? Ah, hold that thought...we'll come back to that shortly.
Tumblr media
Another very famous story that include a crow being sent out to look for land after a great Flood is in the epic story of Gilgamesh. While on a journey Gilgamesh meets an old man named Utnaptishtim who tells the hero how he survived a great flood by building a boat after being warned by the gods to do so, and then floating for several days before coming to rest on a mountain top. At first he sent out a dove, but the dove returned. Then he sent out a swallow, but the swallow returned also, so he knew there was no land yet. But the third bird he sent out was a crow, and it didn't come back, so Utnaptishtim knew it was finally safe to leave.
There are also crows mentioned in two North American Flood myths, with the Cree and the Algonquin, and in both stories they are also sent to look out for land.
So why am I telling you this? Because of this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is, as we know, is a bit of a play on words, but it establishes the association between the ungulate offspring and the human offspring when we run into the next occurrence of the innocent being killed on the Almighty's fickle whim in the Job minisode in S2. And we know our favourite demon is just not going to take that lying down that without some kind of protest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So after delivering his open monologue to the goats, which gives an insight into himself, then being confronted by Aziraphale, and revealing he has a permit, from the Almighty Herself, no less, he turns Job's goats into crows.
(And if you've missed the bit about why the goats, and not the sheep, which the archangels kept going on about, its because sheep were seen as more "Christian" as the rams were considered faithful to their ewes, as good followers should be, but goats were observed to just do it with any-nanny, with no sense of commitment, if you get what I mean, so they were considered more "demonic" in nature.)
Tumblr media
The bible seems to have a bit of a love-hate relationship with birds. On hand they can be used for food or sacrifices, on the other hand they are metaphorical demons! There is an association made between "birds of the air" and demons, waiting to pick off the weak (of thought) and young before they can be enfolded into the "safety" of the church.
Even the noble eagle is frowned upon in a way, as it eats carrion, or rotting meat. And that is something ravens and crows are known to do as well. This eating of dead animals, and humans on the field on the ancient battlefield, led crows to be associated with death and the afterlife, and by extension, transformation from one form to another.
(I can't help thinking at this point about the Sandman's assistant crow helper that travels between worlds, but also I've written a couple of metas about both Crowley and the Bentley being facilitators for the crossing of thresholds between different worlds.)
If you've ever had a close association with a crow or two- and I have, over several years, they can be wily opponents! - you come to respect their intelligence and adaptability, no matter how they might be frustrating you! **
The raven is also mentioned in the Book of Job 38:41
Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
We didn't hear this line delivered to Job during the minisode, though we certainly heard some of the other lines from verses 38 and 39 that come before and after it. God is in the middle of telling Job about the universe, the earth and the creatures upon it, and how She looks after them. The line Jimbriel speaks about the morning stars all singing together is Job 38:7, for example. Just before mentioning this loathsome bird, She mentions that most noble of animals, the lion. But look, She also cares about ugly croaking raven fledglings that seem to get kicked out of the nest as soon as they can fly. How do they fend for themselves? It is seen as the mercy of God that she provides for each of the creatures of the Earth, both the lion and the raven. (Well, there's some interesting metaphorical links riiiight there...I hope I don't need to spell them out....)
So where are we? We've gone from a crow being a messenger for Noah, to kids/goats from the Flood scene in S1E3, to demon-associated goats being transformed into demon-associated crows in the Job minisode in S2E2, just before Job's human kids are saved from destruction by being transformed into geckos - which is also a significant symbolic creature for resurrection (which I explain in another meta.)
You know, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we loop back for a longer look at the Flood in S3. Kids, crows, a transformative experience...

King of my Heart | N. Hischier
word count: 1.5k
pairing: Nico Hischier x gn!reader (I think pls correct me if I’m wrong)
summary: at a team dinner it finally hits you, Nico is all you want.
warnings: none?
requested: no
not my gif!
Tumblr media
you met Nico when he joined the devils, you just being hired, him just joining the team. You two became best friends fast.
He was always there for you, if you were sad, if anything happened, if you did something and you were proud, he was right there supporting you. Everyone always assumed there was something more, you two were so close, always. Out for dinner or watching a show on the couch, you two were almost always touching.
“You two are such a cute couple, what can I get for you?” That was a commonly heard sentence that it came to the point you both stopped correcting people.
I mean being assumed to be dating your best friend of 6 years, daily, was normal, right?
“Nico!” You squealed as he picked you up and spun, he was finally home from a roadie.
“I missed you” he said, placing your feet on the ground and shoving his face in your neck. You giggled, the scruff on his face tickling you slightly.
“I missed you too”
“There’s a team dinner tonight, your coming.”
“I don’t even have a choice anymore?” You asked, a clear joking tone. You were going either away, if he had asked you or told you.
“Come on Y/n/n, you knew you were coming either way.”
You laughed and pulled him down onto the couch, him falling on top of you. This was a normal place for you two, cuddling was basically a daily activity.
“Okay come on, we should get going.”
“Nooo, I just got home I don’t want go out again.” Nico mumbled into you. He would never admit it but all he ever wanted was to be yours, to cuddle you and kiss you everyday, but he couldn’t risk the friendship so he’d take what he could get for now.
“Up, up, Neeks. We’re going to dinner.”
It took a bit of bribery, more cuddles as soon as you guys get home, but finally you were both out the door and headed to dinner.
“Ah they’ve arrived!” Jack was quick to greet you both, and immediately start telling you how insufferable Nico was because he wouldn’t stop talking about you.
A blush covered your face, you loved Nico, everyone knew that but you loved Nico in a more then a friendship way. But you wouldn’t even admit that to yourself, so you played the blush off as you get flustered when anyone talks about you.
Dinner was fun, obviously on a high from all the wins, team dinner was held at a random bar. There was drinks and dancing all the night. You and Jack had talked for a bit before he left to find someone to dance with, Nico had been quick to disappear to the dance floor after a few drinks, hence leaving you with Dawson to talk.
“You know, Nico really loves you. You’re really lucky.”
“I know, I love him too”
“No not like that, Y/n. He loves you, more then you think.”
Before you could even comprehend what he said Nico was pushing his way back to you. His hair was sweaty and in his face. He looked glorious. The lights were shining on him just right and the way his hair fell was perfect.
Holy shit. You were in love with Nico. All at once, it all came crashing down on you.
“Come dance with me” Nico yelled over the music. You were still frozen, staring at him with awe. Dawson swiped his hand in front of your face, snapping you out of your gaze.
“Shit, sorry Neek, what’d you say?”
“Come dance”
He waited no time for a reply he took your hand and pulled you onto the dance floor. It was crowed, you were pushed against Nico. This was not helping you figure anything out, you had just realized your in love with your best friend, was a lot.
“What’s wrong?”
Fuck he noticed.
“Nothing Neeks, I’m fine.” You lied but he was a bit tipsy so he couldn’t notice it. Soon he was back to jumping around and dancing, forcing you to join him. It was so fun. You two would occasionally stop for drinks but go right back after, you both were out there til final call.
You and Nico had walked to the bar, only living 10 minutes away, so you started your trek back. You were a bit tipsy now and Nico was completely drunk at this point. And now Nico was extra needy.
“Baby, I just wanna hold youuu” he whined the entire walk back, all he wanted was to lay with you and hold you, he made that very clear.
“Come on Nico, you need to go to bed.” You finally had gotten home and Nico inside but now he wouldn’t even go in his own room.
“But Baby, I wanna cuddle.” He words were slightly mumbled together but he was getting his point across.
You gave up. He clearly wasn’t going go bed so you’d comprise.
“Nico, we can cuddle as soon as you change, okay?”
He didn’t even answer he just stumbled over to his room before coming out not even a minute later in sweats and a tee-shirt.
You fell done onto your bed, while he was getting changed you had ran in to your room to change, he found you quickly, and opened your arms. He fell into them in an instant.
“Come on, let me get comfy. Then you can sleep in here tonight, okay Ni?”
“Mhm” Was all he mumbled before slightly lifting himself so you could move, as soon as he deemed you looked comfy, he threw himself back on you.
“Umph” was all you could use to describe the sound you made as he landed on you, quickly he cuddled into you.
“Okay Neeks, let’s sleep now.”
“Okay” was all he said, right before he passed out. You ran your hand threw his hair. It was so soft.
“What am I going to do?” You whispered, looking down at Nico.
You had managed to fall asleep pretty quickly after that though, Nico’s body heat lulling you into sleep. You woke up in the morning, no Nico.
“Nico?” You call through the house. No answer. Odd.
You got up slowly, your head had a slight pounding but you chose to ignore it. You walked into the kitchen, Nico still wasn’t there but there was a fresh pot of coffee. You quickly poured yourself a cup before taking it with you to find Nico. You walked into the living room, still not there. The bathroom? Nope. The pantry? Still no. Finally it came down to his room or the laundry room. You chose his room.
“Nico?” You asked through the door, yet still no answer. Gently you pushed the door open, you found Nico pacing the room, his phone to his ear, speaking rushed and panicked in German.
it took less then a minute for Nico to notice you, he stopped pacing to look at you, then end his call.
“Good morning” was all he said.
“Nico what is going on?”
“Nothing”
You shook your head, you knew he was going to tell you now, why keep pushing. You walked over and feel on his bed, having left your coffee in the bathroom on accident. He follow in suite, laying beside you.
“Nico?”
“Yes?”
you took a deep breath, this might ruin everything, hopefully Dawson was right.
“I love you.”
“I love you too”
Fuck. This is harder then you thought.
“No Nico, I am in love with you.”
When he didn’t say anything you looked over at him. He was just starting at you.
“Nico?”
He pushed his lips against your fast. You barely had time to react before he pulled away.
“Shit, I’m so sorry I should’ve asked-“
You cut him off with another kiss. He was quick to reciprocate, his arm shaking around your waist, his other holding your jaw. You hands tangled in his hair.
When you finally pulled away, you were both out of breath.
“I am in love with you too.” Was the only thing said, by Nico, before kissing you again.
“I’ll never get tired of that” he mumbled against your lips, your lips curving into a smile at his words.
“Your all I want Nico.”
“I’m all yours baby”
bonus part
“Hey Ni?”
“Hmm?”
“Who were you on the phone with? You sounded panicked.”
“My mom. When I woke up this morning I couldn’t take it anymore, I called her to confess I loved you and I was scared you wouldn’t feel the same.” He explained. He was going to tell you he loved you today, you just beat him to it.
You laughed lightly as he shyly smiled.
“Don’t laugh” He said with a smile, hiding himself in your neck. He began to place kisses on your neck.
“Ni” you warned.
“what’s wrong, Baby?”
His look was playful, matching the energy of a golden retriever.
“Be careful where you plan on taking this, Hischier.”
he laughed in response and let his head fall to your chest.

There’s a soft, dusky twilight bleeding in through the window. The last few seconds before the sun goes down, and the shadows stretch like yearning fingers out of all the cracks and crevices.
Anya used to love the sunset. Used to lay in her bedroll beneath the trees and wait for the world to go quiet. All the colour would bleed away until the blue and black and stars were the only witnesses left.
She loved the sunset until one day, the darkness came and never left. It settled over her like a second skin, and that once-familiar comfort became something she feared she’d never shake off. She feared she would die there, in the dark.
Once or twice, she even wished for it.
The dark comes calling again, now. It no longer feels like an old friend. The light fades from the window, cloaking the cabin in a strange half-dark. The waves crashing against the sides of the ship are a dull roar in the back of her mind. An unwelcome accompaniment to the rest of her terrible thoughts. Her head aches. Her skin burns.
He saved her, but what was left of her to save? What is left of her now but a ghost, a corpse, a pile of skin and bones and blood that can do nothing else but scream and scream and scream?
That's what it feels like. Her body. Her heart. Little more than a carcass left to rot, picked over by crows.
She would love him if she could. A fierceness rests between her lungs, the single spark of life left within her after they stripped her of the rest. This, she'd cradled close, clutched between gnarled, bloody fingers. This is his. This, they couldn't tear from her if they tried.
     And they had tried.
The bed rocks beneath her. After so long trapped in a dingy cell, the mattress should feel like the height of luxury, stuffed with goose feathers and lined with linen, but it all feels like stone. She tastes blood in her mouth, and she doesn’t know if it’s her own. The silk sheets ghost over her flesh, feeling sharp as razor blades.
Anya never learned to love her cage, but she doesn’t trust freedom, either. Not yet.
It's not that he's the reason she lived. He isn't her reason to keep breathing. Anya Kamenev is her father's daughter, and has endured untold horrors, and if there is one certainty in the world, it is that she is not weak. She survived for herself, for her parents, for her country. She wanted to be home again. The trees blossoming in the summertime, fresh ripe fruit on her tongue, winter air that smells like snow.
She wouldn't die like this. Not at their hands. Anya would go quietly in her bed at a ripe old age, surrounded by people who loved her. Or she'd go to her knees on a battlefield, still screaming as the bullets rip her wide open, and with her last breath, she'd take them down too.
Not like this. Not in a dark laboratory, or a torture chamber. Not at their hands. Anya is stubborn. She'd bleed green if someone told her she was wrong. She'd make it true.
But he loves her. He loves her, and that is everything. He’d appeared before her like a vision sent by the Saints, like something holy in a place she knows no god would ever touch. Like a miracle. On the bad days, his love is blossom trees and fresh fruit and winter air combined. He has held her hand through darkness, guided her through battle, and even when he left for his apprenticeship, he'd kissed her like it was a promise.
They'd taken everything else. Broken her bones and slashed her skin. Wrought her apart to scratch at her soul. She'll bear the scars for the rest of her life, long after the wounds are healed. Her body will never be the same. Her mind may never recover.
But this wasn't hers to give up. This is his. Loving him had been a candle in the darkness. A reminder that she was human still. A reminder that even in the blackest night, dawn will come again.
But now, lying alone in his bed in a dim cabin, Anya grows restless. The mind is a strange thing, and something about this safety feels foreign to her. There are voices in the walls. The shadows have eyes. The ship lurches in the waves and she swears there is a hand right there, reaching out—
She's on her feet before she realises what she's doing. She never was a girl built to run — her instinct has always been to stay, to fight — but this is different, and blood doesn’t always feel like blood when you touch it.
Her knee buckles beneath her the moment she puts weight on it. A strangled shriek escapes her lips as pain streaks through her like lightning. The cabin door slams open, and Nikolai appears. His tailored-red hair glows in the candlelight, a halo of bronze. His face is still different, crooked nose and freckles and green eyes, but he will never be unfamiliar to her.
He crosses the room in two strides and falls to his knees beside Anya. His teal overcoat has been abandoned, and what remains is a loose white shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, still speckled with her blood. Her stomach twists at the sight of it as his hands find her shoulders. Something solid, finally; her guiding light once more.
The chill that had stolen over her body vanishes where he touches her, and Anya leans into him heavily, her face pressed into the warmth of his shoulder. An agonising moan rises up within her, but she holds her breath. She bites her tongue so hard it bleeds.
"You shouldn't be up, love." His voice is still the same soothing cadence in her ear. One hand brushes through ragged, tangled girls. It seems someone tried to brush her hair while she was unconscious; bathed the worst of the blood away, changed her into fresh clothes, but the scent of iron still lingers on her skin. His fingers catch in a knot, but the sharp spike of pain on her scalp goes unnoticed. The rest of her is screaming too loudly.
"I cannot be in that bed any longer." Anya shakes her head, once, and breathes in the salt-and-cedar scent of him. Hands outstretched, clawing blindly, she grasps him tightly and swears she'll never let go again. "I cannot be here."
How long had the Shu held her? How many days have passed since they killed the last member of her unit, since his cries grew too quiet and she'd been left alone with her worst nightmares? Had anyone notified her parents? What will they say, when they learn the truth? When they discover their worst fear has come to pass, and their darling daughter was tortured for being Grisha?
"You cannot be anywhere else, Nastya," says Nikolai. He sounds like aching. His lips brush against her temple as he speaks, voice soft as silk. His hands are gentle, too, as he scoops her up from the floor and settles her back onto the bed. She holds herself stiffly, choking back another scream as her knee jostles and jerks.
He winces as if every choked-off cry is a blade through his heart. He murmurs sweet apologies as he readjusts the pillows and perches on the bed beside her, close enough to touch, wary of disturbing her leg any further. His hands linger on hers. The tips of his fingers trace light patterns over the inside of her wrist.
For a moment, nothing has changed.
"Do you need anything, Captain?" The voice in the doorway is a little startling, and for a second Anya is back in that cell. She stiffens as the woman watches them both, a soft frown toying at her mouth. Golden eyes shine with pity.
Nikolai rolls his lips together for a moment. "Perhaps some water, please, Tamar." The woman nods, and tugs the door closed behind her as she departs, leaving the pair wrapped in stony silence.
Nikolai's eyes trail over Anya, searching, inspecting her injuries as if committing every scar to memory. He cannot count how many times he has done this since he found her. Sitting on the bed just like this, close enough to feel the warmth of her, counting each breath as if they might be her last. His eyes harden at the bruises on her throat, the gash across her cheek. Sweeping lower, his gaze settles on her knee again. He swallows roughly. Darkness sweeps over him like a burial shroud.
The skin of Anya's leg is mottled, black and yellow and purple, a medley of half-healed bruises intermingled with fresh ones. They hurt her. They broke her. And for the first time since he left Ravka, anticipating a bright and shining future filled with adventure, Nikolai is drowning in regret.
"Tolya did his best, but he's not a healer." His throat feels tight, like there's smoke in his lungs. Her skin is littered with newly-pink scars and stitched-up wounds. Her leg is the worst of it. Nikolai doesn't recall seeing injuries like this, even in the army. "We'll get you healers when we dock. The best healers. They'll be able to help with the rest of it. They'll be able to—"
"Fix me?" Anya sounds hollow. His eyes snap to hers, and he finds someone staring back at him, but it isn't Anya. It isn't the girl he fell in love with. Somewhere within, she might be hiding, but here and now, he's faced with a ghost. "I lost count of how many times they broke it. Sometimes they'd drag a healer in to mend the bone, and then... snap. Other times they'd just leave it. There are some things that can't be fixed if you break them enough."
A rough shake of his head. His heart sits like lead in his chest. "We'll fix it. You'll be good as new in no time, Nastya, I promise you."
Silence falls over them for a moment, filled with nothing but crashing waves and crackling candles. His fingers keep drawing circles over her wrist, and her pulse flutters gently beneath his touch. Her hands remain in her lap, pale and thin.
     "How long was I gone?"
He doesn't need to ask what she means by that. His heart squeezes. "Six weeks, we think. They reported you missing-in-action when your unit didn't reach the checkpoint."
Nausea rises like a tidal wave in Anya’s throat. Six weeks? Every horrible moment had felt like an eternity, and yet she never believed, never could have guessed it had been that long.
"Sturmhond came to find me. Why?"
An old fury lashes through him, one that had only settled when he laid eyes on her, half-dead in that dingy cell. Fingers curl into trembling fists as that anger rises again, unbidden, but not at her. Never at her. His jaw ticks at the memory. "Command thought attempting a rescue would be too... risky." He spits the word through gritted teeth. The Saints only know what he’ll do the moment he gets his hands on the First Army General responsible for that decision. "They couldn't prove you were in Shu Han, and crossing the border to rescue you would have risked an international incident."
A necessary sacrifice. Collateral damage. A most unfortunate loss. That's what the bulletin had read, when he finally received it. Sturmhond kept up-to-date on Ravka, its military engagements, its economy. When he'd docked in Os Kervo eleven days ago and sent the twins out for supplies and information, the last thing he expected to hear was that a scouting group had gone missing near the Shu Han border.
His last correspondence with Anya had mentioned that she was being deployed there, that she'd been tasked with leading a reconnaissance mission with the aim of finding new ways around the Fold. It had only taken a little digging to discover the names of the personnel who'd gone missing.
He sees Lieutenant Colonel Anya Kamenev: MISSING IN ACTION every time he closes his eyes. It might be seared onto his brain forever.
Anya’s eyes fall closed. Her jaw is tight. With pain or anger, he cannot tell. It was a sound tactical decision, she thinks. She cannot blame them for that. She might even have made the same call.
But her leg screams at her. Nikolai's hand squeezes her own. Your country abandoned you. The words ring through her mind like a death knell.
     "You disagreed with their decision?"
That familiar crooked grin slips over his face. He almost looks like a boy again, and not the man who loves her, made world-weary by the things he’s seen. They could be home again. It almost makes her cry. "Ravka was concerned about tensions with Shu Han. Nikolai Lantsov was unable to risk an international incident. Sturmhond had no such concerns."
A ghost of a smile. His heart twinges at the sight of it. "Your letters never mentioned why you chose the name Sturmhond."
"I'll tell you some other time, darling. It's quite the tale." He leans and kisses her forehead, lingering a few long moments just to breathe her in, feel the warmth of her skin beneath his lips.
She'd been so pale when he found her. So cold. He thought he'd been too late. Every moment of the past eleven days had been agony as they docked in Shu Han and scouted out any scrap of intel they could find about Ravkan prisoners of war.
"We'll dock soon. I sent word ahead to the generals, to let them know you've been liberated. I'll take you home."
Home. A long journey around the Fold, most likely through Fjerdan territory, and then a trek up to Balakirev, and yet— A whimper escapes, almost too quiet to hear. Home. She thought she'd never see it again.
"They'll want to question me, though." The thought of interviews, of recounting every detail of her torture, of having to admit that she's Grisha, that they killed the rest of her unit but spared her for experimentation, it all makes her sick.
Nikolai shakes his head. His eyes are steel. "If they want to try, they'll have to go through me. Now sleep, love. Rest. I'll be right here."
When sleep comes for her, finally, it does not come with those long, yearning fingers. Anya fears she will never love a sunset again, nor wish for the blissful peace of the night. But Nikolai lies down beside her, wraps her up in warm, solid arms, his chest beneath her head. She hears him breathing in her ear, a slow and steady rhythm, though she knows he isn’t sleeping.
He’ll stay awake the whole night, to keep her demons at bay.

Modern!Rhys x Reader
Summary: While at the art shop looking for the necessary supplies for your first semester of art school, you get a bit distracted by the cocky cashiers intriguing eye color.
Warnings: None
Word Count: 2,254
Notes: It’s 1am and now it’s Sunday so I’m posting rn so @writingsbychlo can see this when she wakes up. This one’s for you babes! I hope you love it.
P.S. Gosh I just love young, cocky Rhys so much. 😭
_________________________________________
You really should’ve grabbed a basket.
Your arms are stuffed with supplies: sketchbooks, pencils, oil paints, a roll of canvas, anything and everything you could need for the start of your classes in a few days.
They’d given you a list of all of the tools needed for your first semester at art school and yeah, you could’ve ventured to the nearest chain store, but you thought it’d be better to support the local art supply in town.
That is, until you meet the cashier.
He looks anything but friendly, leant over the expanse of the counter, flipping through a magazine ever so lazily. The boy doesn’t even look up when you drop your supplies down, spilling across the surface with purpose.
“Hello?” you crow when you’ve been standing there for a solid minute while he reads whatever article is next to the full page perfume ad with a half naked model on it. You catch sight of his long fingers rubbing the corner of the pages, separating them from each other so that he can turn to the next.
“Hi,” he responds blankly, like you’ve just run into him and he doesn’t know why you’re speaking to him. Your brows knit together as you stare at him, wondering if he always acts so careless about his job or you’ve just caught him at a bad time.
“I, um…” you trail off, frustrated because all you want to do is purchase your supplies and you’ll be out of his inky black hair. “Can you look at me?”
A muscle twitches in his jaw in annoyance, which is fine because his rudeness is irritating you as well, so at least you have that in common.
Finally, he snaps shut the magazine and looks up at you. His glaring eyes are startling, not because he looks menacing, but you’ve never quite seen a color like that before, bright violet with flecks of a dark hue that reminds you of the stars in the night sky.
They make you itch to test out your new paints.
Your breath hitches in your throat as he stands to his full height, and holy Gods, he towers over you by at least a whole foot. “Is there something I can help you with?”
You clear your throat, “Yes, actually. If you’re not too busy, that is.” You glance at the magazine, now facedown on the counter.
The side of his mouth quirks in a wicked smirk, “You’ve caught me at a good stopping point.”
You fight the urge to roll your eyes, muttering something under your breath that only makes him smile wider.
“I’m looking for the umber oil paint but I didn’t see any on the rack.”
“Freshman then?” his teeth are bright in his grin. He rounds the corner of the counter, leading you back the way you came. There aren’t many students milling about the small shop, and as you pass the pen section you have to talk yourself into not purchasing another just for the sake of how pretty it looks.
You make a face at his insinuation. “You can tell that just from my paint selection?”
“Yes and no. No, because umber is a staple color for most painters,” he glances at you over his shoulder as he slows to a stop before the rack of organized paints. He takes his time, giving you a once over that makes you flush and hug your arms across your chest. His smile only grows and you scowl in response. “And yes, because If you weren't a freshman you would’ve asked for a specific one. There’s burnt umber and raw umber.”
He plucks both tubes of paint from the shelf and holds them out to you, “Very different colors.”
“They look the same to me,” you mumble, studying the swatches on the tubes. They’re a few shades off from each other, surely that can’t make that much of a difference.
You definitely don’t take into account how small the tubes look in his large hands, and you’re absolutely not thinking about taking one just to compare the size difference between your hands.
“Trying to decide which one to get?” His question is innocent but the look on his face is anything but.
You flush and the collar of your shirt seems to tighten out of nowhere. “Yes.”
He stares down at you for a moment, making sure that you know he’d given you an out.
“You’re going to need both.”
“I guess I’ll take your word for it, since you seem to know so much about art.”
“That’s why I work at the art store,” he replies bluntly, letting you lead the way back to the register, “Because I know my shit.”
“Well it’s definitely not because of your less than charming personality,” you retort, shocking yourself. You’re usually not so rude to people but there’s just something about this guy that’s getting under your skin.
All you want to do is go back to your dorm.
“You think I’m charming?”
You scoff, “Absolutely not,” You catch yourself peeking at how well fitting his pants are against the round of his ass as he makes his way back to the register side of the counter. You shake your head, scolding yourself. “Now are you going to ring up my stuff?”
“No, but I will check you out.”
You groan, “That was terrible.”
“Terrible or cute?”
You give him a pointed look, face straight. “Terrible.”
“I can try another,” he says as he finally starts ringing up your art supplies.
“No thank you, just the supplies for me today, thanks,” you try, silently praying that he hurries. You can’t stand the thought of being around him for much longer if he spouts another cheesy line that you know he’s probably used on plenty of girls before. You don’t care how cute he is.
“You know what else these are good for?” He holds up the tube of Dioxazine purple paint, the one that looks like a bottled color of his eyes.
“I really didn’t ask.”
“Finger Painting.”
The retort rolls quickly off your tongue and just as swift to wipe that smile off of his gorgeous face. “Should’ve known that’s what you’re into, since you act like a three year old.”
His eyes glow, taking the card you’re holding out for the transaction. You don’t even care how much the total is, you just want to get the hell out of here.
“Feisty.”
“Just give me the damn receipt,” you’re pretty sure your cheeks look like they’ve been brushed with the cadmium red paint in your bag as you hold out your hand for your card and the thin sheet of paper.
“Yes, ma'am,” he obeys, passing both over to you, sliding your bag of supplies across the counter.
“And don’t call me that.”
“What do you want me to call you? Darling? Or your name, perhaps?”
“No.”
“Any other requests?” he asks cheekily, planting his hands on the counter so he can lean toward it, towering over you.
You take the bag, fully planning on ignoring him in favor of taking a brisk walk towards the door but he’s shuffling around under the counter and trailing after you.
“Yeah, you can stop following me,” you remark, catching sight of the bunched up sweatshirt in his hands. It’s nowhere near cold yet so you don’t understand why he has that on him. Maybe it got cold in the store while he was sitting on his ass doing nothing.
“My shift just ended, Darling.”
You halt as you step onto the sidewalk. He takes a few steps further, swinging around to face you when he realizes you’ve stopped.
Narrowing your eyes up at him, you say, “Didn’t I just tell you not to call me that?”
“You didn’t tell me your name, so I guess I’ll just have to keep calling you pet names, Darling.”
“(Y/N),” you nearly growl, “My name is (Y/N).”
He repeats your name and you clutch your bag tighter in your hands because you’d never heard it sound quite that lovely coming out of someone's mouth. It gives you goosebumps.
“I’m Rhysand, but you can call me Rhys.”
“I’m honored,” you respond sourly, hating that he’s smiling at your annoyance. “Can I go now?”
You try to step around him but he slides into your path again, blocking your way back to campus.
“You know my friends and I are throwing a party at my place tonight,” he starts, glancing up at the street over your head before returning those piercing eyes on yours. He shrugs.  “You know, before class starts up and all that.”
“Cool.”
He barks out a laugh that licks up your spine in the best way. “That was me inviting you, if that wasn’t clear.”
“It wasn’t,” you say, even though it was.
He cocks his head, grinning crookedly at you, “Don’t be like that.”
You can’t help but to roll your eyes at this cocky boy. You blurt the next question that comes to mind instead of giving him an answer. “Why are you even working here?”
“So I can meet pretty girls like you,” he responds innocently, dark lashes fluttering against his cheeks in an exaggerated manner.
You can’t help but to laugh, shifting your bag to the other arm, “Try again.”
The corner of his mouth pulls up into a wicked curve and your heart definitely doesn’t stutter and you certainly aren’t thinking about breaking out the oil paints you’ve just bought.
“I might work at the art supply store to get a discount on my own supplies,” he starts, “Or I might work at the art supply store so that my father thinks that I can be independent and make a living off becoming an artist instead of taking over the family business.”
And well, you weren’t expecting him to be so open about it.
Unsure of what to say, you focus on the fact that he said he was also taking classes for art.
“You’re in art school?”
“I know, the patchwork tattoos make me seem like something much more scholarly,” he grins and you had taken notice of the array of…interesting patchwork tattoos littering the tanned skin of his arms.
“Yeah,” you huff a laugh, “The Mickey Mouse one really screams finance major.”
Rhys’ smile falls, an offended scowl taking over his perfect face. “It’s not just a tattoo of Mickey Mouse,” he protests, turning his arm so the both of you can see the silly tattoo better. “He’s…on drugs, so it’s cool, ya know? An aesthetic if you will.”
You stare at it, then at him, an eyebrow raised.
He gives in. “Okay…so it was a dare but there’s a good story behind it, I swear! I can tell you more about it on our date.”
“Date? I thought it was a party?”
“So you’re coming?”
You purse your lips, unimpressed. “I didn’t say all that.”
The blaring sounds of a horn cuts off his response, drawing both of your attention to the street. There’s two boys in the front seats of the gorgeous vintage Bronco, painted your favorite color. Your mouth nearly drops at the pristine condition of the car, and then again once you catch sight of the handsome passengers.
The boy driving the car leans over the one in the passenger, “C’mon Rhys, hurry up and get her number or we’re going to do this thing without you!”
The boy in the passenger seat glares at the driver, your cheeks heating up under their stares.
“You heard him,” Rhys says, smiling so wide you’re afraid his cheeks might split open. “Can’t have them thinking I didn’t get your number, right?”
“You didn’t.”
“(Y/N),” he sighs, yielding only a small step when you take one forward. When you don’t say anything he continues, “At least come to the party.”
“No, thanks.”
“Please?”
You exhale an exasperated breath. He just won’t give up. “If I say yes will you get out of my way?”
“Definitely,” he nods his head eagerly.
“Then yes,” you finally relent and he beams, “I will see you there.”
“Sick,” he mutters proudly to himself. He shoves his hand into your bag and you fumble for a second, yelping and straightening the paper sack as he rifles around for something.
Rhys pulls a sharpie out and grabs your arm. You’re so caught off guard that you just watch as he writes his number on your forearm in thick black letters. Your mouth drops open in shock. You’ll have to scrub your skin raw to try and get it off.
He steps back, admiring his work. He caps the marker and tosses it back into your bag, “My number looks good on you, you should consider getting that inked. I have a friend, if you want.”
“Let me guess, he’ll be at the party.”
His grin is shit eating.
Rhys winks, pulling out a can of spray paint from beneath the bunched up fabric of his sweatshirt as he retreats towards the car, and it’s then that you realize he's only brought the jacket so he could take the paint, hiding it in the fabric so no one would see.
He shakes the can in the air for emphasis, swinging a leg up into the backseat of the convertible. The grin on his face is something you'll be thinking about for the rest of the day.
“I'll paint something pretty for ya, (Y/N). See you tonight.”
