Thinking about last night’s Horrible Nightmare, and now that I’m not dealing with The Horrors face to face there’s actually some silver linings here. Like how one of the things I wanted to do to escape said Horrors was to message my friends.
And there’s just something cool about feeling so safe with my friends that I dream about it is nice. This has to be a sign of good mental health right? Bad things are happening but you know who my subconscious trusts? Them.
Also got to see my dead dog again which was fun. She only shows up in nightmares and it’s always the Main Problem, but it’s nice seeing her. She’s not the Horror, the horror is that she’s been brought back by unnatural means and the resulting problems.
#Vent.tw#So I got in a fight with my parents ok?#And they don’t just send me to my room. They send two of our former goats down with me. Tucker and Harry#Harry kinda disappears after a while because I’m distracted by Tucker. Who’s shedding every time he moves#Coarse hairs everywhere. There’s practically clouds of the stuff coming off of him#And it’s a Bad Texture so I want him gone. Then my parents come back for the goats and ask where Harry is.#We can’t find Harry anywhere so we go outside. And my dog is there#I take photos of her because she’s supposed to be dead and IDK how much longer I’ll get to see her.#She’s still old and stiff but she’s happy. And we follow her along this rope bridge to a hotel in a tree#Go into the elevator and on the second floor is my whole family gathered along the walls (they went first)#There is a giant glowing red pentagram in the middle of the floor.#The devil is standing against the far wall behind a table with the missing goat. And informs me he’s raised my dog from the dead#And if I want the goat back I have to kill her again.#So I thought for a while and realized I didn’t really care about the goat and I’d rather my dead dog stays alive#And then the devil says sure and tries to leave with both the goat and some random toddler. But we get the toddler back#Because she wasn’t part of the deal and we grabbed her from him before he left#And then I go down the hotel hallway and hide in the bathroom and try to message my friends for help#But I can’t think of any of them who aren’t performing witchcraft on a regular basis. Except for maybe Alex#And then the devil (who was dead. IDK how but he died) comes back to life in the body of a squashed spider.#So I try squashing it again and run for help. And then wake up#Awful. Don’t recommend 1/10

Harvey x gn!Farmer
Had this thought when I remembered I had to take my meds tonight. I just think it would be nice to have someone who takes care of you when you're a bit stupid and forget to take very important meds 👉👈
Also, Baja Blast is the actual name of my blue chicken lmao
Also also, this is written in third person POV instead of my usual second person POV
Warnings: swearing, dizziness, anxiety, possibly OOC Harvey
Word Count: 1,592
Masterlist
AO3
Harvey rubbed at his eyes as he slipped out of bed, glancing absentmindedly at the empty space beside him. The farmer was already up, of course. He worried for them when he realized how early they woke up each day, but it couldn't be helped if they wanted to take care of their farm all in one day.
He adjusted his glasses on his face as he shuffled to the kitchen. A cup of hot coffee sat on the counter waiting for him, as it always was. He smiled to himself. Fresh coffee from beans they grew themselves always tasted better than anything Gus could ever dream of making. It was perfectly bitter and smooth as he gulped it down.
He looked out the window of the cabin that overlooked the field left to the farmer by their grandfather. There weren't any unwanted stumps, logs or boulders anymore. Fences penned in the animals as they meandered about, munching on fresh grass. The crops were already watered. The scarecrows teetered slightly in the breeze, the fabric of their gloves almost appearing to wave back at him. He always enjoyed the one that resembled an animated movie character - the farmer had been so proud of it when they stuck it into the ground.
His eyes scanned the paths and fences, searching for his partner.
Hm, they must be in one of the barns.
He stared out a while longer, hoping to catch a glimpse as they came out. A concerned frown etched its way onto his face, but he tried writing off the anxiety swarming in his gut. They're probably just refilling the feeders or refilling their kegs or... Really, it's nothing to get worried about. They knew what they were doing! As long as they stayed out of those damn mines, he had nothing to worry about.
He sighed, shaking his head to remove the flood of worried thoughts in his head. Downing the last of the coffee and placing the mug in the sink, he went off to the bathroom to get ready for a day in the clinic.
He peeked out the window again after he got out of the shower. A blue chicken - a gift from Shane the farmer had named Baja Blast - clucked cheerily as it walked out of the open gate. The farmer usually kept the gates closed, always worrying about coyotes or foxes coming to eat their precious hens. It was unusual for them to keep it open, even if they were inside the coop.
He bustled about in a slight rush to get dressed and gather his things for work, namely a giant thermos of coffee and a lunch prepared for him waiting in the fridge, before slipping out of the cabin. He set it all down on a rocking chair sitting on the porch, creaking in the wind.
Baja Blast clucked up at him as he scooped her into his arms. “C’mon, you shouldn’t be out here. All your food is in here,” he says to the chicken as he steps through the gate and closes it behind him. With a cursory glance back, it didn’t seem like any other chickens got out. He couldn’t remember how many his partner had anymore. He had no idea how in the world they kept up with chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, cows, and pigs on one farm alone. It made his head spin trying to guess how they kept their head on straight with so much to do.
He set Baja Blast down with a white chicken, Madame Clucks. She went back right to pecking away at the grass.
Harvey set his hands on his hips as he looked around. Even out here, he couldn’t see the farmer. Okay, how he was worried. His hands fidgeted anxiously as he stumbled in his loafers through the soft dirt to the coop door. If they weren’t in here, he’d have to check the other barns. And if they weren’t in the barns, he’d have to call Marnie or Shane, or, Yoba forbid, Marlon at the Adventurer’s Guild, just in case they really had slipped off to the mines without telling him. But what if they weren’t in the mines? He’d have to call- Yoba, who could he call? Everyone? Ask if they’ve seen the farmer around today? It wasn’t even 8am, nobody would be up and about to know if they’d gone through town.
He pushed open the door, a bit harder than he meant to as some chickens lingering inside bawk’d and spooked away, leaving feathers in their wake. He couldn’t even focus on that. His eyes immediately landed on the figure sitting on the chest by the mayonnaise machine. They were hunched over and holding their head.
“Farmer!” Harvey rushed forward, all the old anxiety quickly replaced with a thousand more fears. He knelt down by them and rested a hand on their shoulder, looking at them with wide eyes. From this angle he could see their eyes were closed, face pinched in discomfort. “What happened? What’s wrong?”
They shook their head. “‘M just lightheaded. I bent down to grab the eggs and I got really dizzy.”
He pressed the back of his hand to their forehead, brushing back some hair as he pulled away. “You’re not running a fever.” He let out a hesitant breath of relief. “Do you think you can stand?”
After a moment, they nodded. Harvey stood up and supported them as they stood. They wobbled on their feet, but he wrapped an arm around their waist to steady them.
“Easy now. Let’s get you back inside.”
“What about-”
“Don’t you dare put your farm over your own wellbeing,” he warned. “I can call Shane and see if he’ll take over for the day.”
The farmer sighed, relenting. He knew how much peace they found tending to everything themselves, despite how overwhelming it seemed on the outside. They had a whole process for everything, and they’d explained before just how much of the simpler tasks they’d automated with sprinklers and some of Maru’s machines. Still, he was absolutely not about to let them go right back to work when they can barely stand up without a light breeze threatening to knock them over.
Harvey opened the gate and helped them through, shooing Baja Blast back inside as he shut the gate again. His partner gave an undignified snort at the offended squawk she let out. “At least you feel well enough to laugh.”
“Like I said, Harv, I’m just dizzy.” They leaned heavily into him as he led them along the paths to the cabin. Their feet hung up on uneven stones and the stairs leading to the door more than once.
“Dizziness is a symptom of something else. I just want to make sure it really is nothing serious.”
“I know you do.” They offered him a slight smile, but it quickly soured to a frown as they shut their eyes again with a frown. “Yoba, it feels like the whole world is spinning.”
“We’re almost there.” The line would have been less out of place if this wasn’t their home that they knew as well as they knew the names of all their animals, but they were too out of it to point it out and Harvey was too in his own head to notice it. So they stumbled together through the house to the large two-person bed.
The farmer laid down with a whine, pressing the balls of their hands to their eyes. “How is this worse somehow?” they groaned.
Harvey pressed a comforting hand to their shoulder. “Did you eat breakfast this morning?” They hummed affirmatively with a nod. “When did you get back home last night?”
“Like… 1? 1:40?”
He sighed, scratching his brow with his thumb. That was a conversation for later. “Did you take your meds?”
The silence was deafening. They covered their whole face with their hands with a muffled, “Fuck, I’m stupid.”
“So you didn’t take your iron?”
They shook their head but regretted it immediately after, uncovering their face with a grimace. Their hands plopped pathetically to the bed beside them. “No, I completely forgot. I was trying to run back from the beach after fishing all night - I must have been so tired it just slipped my mind.”
He let out a long sigh. “At least it’s nothing serious. I’ll be right back, okay?”
“‘M sorry, Harvey.”
“It’s…” He frowned at the idea of saying ‘okay’. As a doctor, he really couldn’t brush off not taking prescribed medication, especially with a partner with such a severe case of anemia. He’d protest against them running a farm at all if they weren’t so determined. “We’ll figure out a better system, okay? We can put them in a pill-minder and keep them on your nightstand.”
They nodded. “Thank you for taking care of me.”
That shocked a laugh out of him. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to their forehead, his mustache scratching their skin in a familiar way. “Of course - that is my job after all. Now sit tight, I’ll grab your supplements and call Shane. Anything he needs to know about?”
“Just make sure he pets all of the animals. They deserve daily pats.”
“I’ll make sure he knows,” he chuckled fondly as his footsteps began their retreat from the bedroom to the house beyond.
“I love you!”
His warm laugh rang out again, echoed against the wood Robin nailed together and the photos on the walls. “I love you, too!”

Sulking
A/N: I have, like probably everyone else, been obsessed with Tears of the Kingdom, and while brainstorming a little with @otomiyaa I thought of this cute idea! Enjoy!
Summary: Link is depressed after being separated from Zelda yet again, and Rauru wants to motivate him a little.
Word count: 2186
Tumblr media
Link was sitting on the ground in front of the Temple of Time, and he was sulking. One moment he had been exploring the ruins underneath Hyrule Castle with Zelda, the next moment his entire world had turned upside down. Zelda was gone. The Master Sword was gone. Ganondorf – or rather, the Lich King??? – had returned after being imprisoned for who knows how long. He had almost died, again. But worst of all? His whole right arm was gone. His fighting arm. All his abilities, skills, everything he had trained for, all of it was gone. And it had taken zero effort for the Lich King to do so. So in the end, he was just weak. Link clenched his fist tightly and bit his lip. He looked down at his new arm, which Rauru, the very first King of Hyrule, had given to him after saving his life. It felt… foreign. And while it was supposed to be powerful, it seemed to have lost its power as well. Perfect.
Rauru noticed Link’s sour mood and sighed. He couldn’t exactly blame him for it, though. The boy had had one hell of a day. He sat himself down on a rock next to Link, not sure what to say. “Are you alright, Link?” He asked. He could tell that the Hylian was depressed.
“...”
“... Right, that’s about the answer I expected,” Rauru said with another sigh, and Link let out a grunt. He should be more amazed that the literal ghost of the very first King of Hyrule was talking to him, but he couldn’t get himself to care right now. After finally being reunited with Zelda, he had lost her yet again. What kind of knight was he, as he had failed to protect her for a second time now. Rauru looked at Link for a long second, almost sensing his worries. “You shouldn’t beat yourself up like that. Zelda’s going to be alright, Link. She’s alive,” He said, causing Link’s head to snap up.
“Are you sure?? How can you know?” He asked, looking straight into Rauru’s eyes. There was an ancient wisdom in those eyes, and secrecy. And for some reason it gave Link some hope.
“I just know.” Rauru said with a smile, and Link felt like he had been holding his breath for far too long. He let out a sigh and mustered a small smile. If Rauru said Zelda was alive, then he was willing to believe him. He was willing to do anything at that point.
“... Thanks, Goat Man,” Link said, his smile growing a little wider as he saw Rauru’s eyebrow twitch.
“Goat ma– ahem, you’re welcome Link. Now you must focus on what’s in front of you. You need to strengthen your new arm, by visiting and conquering the Shrines to seek out the Sacred Light,” Rauru said, and a frown reappeared on Link’s face. He was about to face about a thousand trials again, he realized.
“Right… no time to waste, then,” He said, standing up as he made his way towards the first Shrine. He had done something similar a few years ago, it couldn’t be that hard right? Apparently it was that hard. While easily mastering half of the shrines and gaining new abilities, Link hated the Sky Islands, and they seemed to hate him just as much. He had lost count of how many times he had almost fallen off the edge at this point. He had been climbing on boxes, and suddenly those boxes had turned into a giant monster. And he didn’t even want to think about all the times he had created items, to help him on his way, only for them to flow off the edge by a sudden gust of wind. Needless to say, by the time he had reached the third Shrine, his sour mood had returned. Rauru, who had been waiting for Link there, raised an eyebrow. “You really need to smile more, you know,” He casually said, earning another grunt from Link who just walked towards him. “Shut up Goat Man,” He grumbled, stopping next to Rauru. “You didn’t fall off a boat made of logs, to swim after it while it sails away, only to fall off of it again at least three times in the past ten minutes.”
“I understand what you’re going through, truly. But you’re going to be alright, you just need to gain a little more control over your new arm and become stronger,” The King assured. Link rolled his eyes.
“Not to be rude, but I don’t think you know what I’m going through right now, Goa–” Link started, only to be interrupted by Rauru.
“Call me a goat again, see what happens,” He said, and it made Link look up for the first time. There was a serious look in Rauru’s eyes, but there was also a smile on his lips and a hint of… playfulness in his voice. And it sparked something within Link, who was usually known for being a menace with his childlike behavior from time to time. While Link hadn’t had the best of days so far, he couldn’t resist the little challenge in that sentence as a smirk tugged at his lips.
“Or what? I don’t think there’s much you can do as a ghost, you know… Goat Man,” Link said while putting his hands on his hips. Rauru shook his head while giving him a once over. The boy in front of him was naked except for an old skirt and some wear-down sandals, and he decided to push his luck? He had to give it to Link, he was courageous.
“Well… I did warn you,” He said, before making a single move with his arm. Link immediately felt, and saw, his new arm react to it, and before he knew it he was laying down on his back, his new arm attached to a boulder. Wait what.
“H-hey! Wha– how did you do that?!” Link cried out in surprise, tugging at his arm to free himself. Nothing, it didn’t budge at all. Rauru chuckled at that, kneeling down next to him. “Did you, perhaps, forget that this arm once belonged to me? I may no longer have a physical body, but that doesn’t mean I no longer get to control it. At least, control it enough to do that,” He said, casually pointing to Link’s position.
“... And why exactly did you do ‘that’?” Link managed to ask, raising one eyebrow at the former King. This earned another chuckle.
“Because you dared to challenge me, and you really need to smile more,” Rauru said, before using both his ghostly hands to dig into Link’s sides. The Hylian let out a strangled gasp and tried to hold his laughter, one of his arms immediately reaching down to grab Rauru’s wrist, only for his hand to go straight through it. Oh that was so unfair.
“W-wait! No stop! Hohohohow?! You’re a damn ghohohost!” Link almost growled as he fought to hold back his frantic giggles, his free hand hitting the air where the ghost was sitting. And for the first time Rauru grinned widely at him.
“Who do you think you’re talking to, boy? I have been here for much longer than you can imagine, I do have some tricks up my sleeve. Besides, I was sitting on a stone earlier without falling through it, you really should have noticed,” He smiled, moving his large hands up and down Link’s flanks. The ghostly touch was feathery light, and it made Link’s skin tingle wherever it got touched.
“Bwaahahaha! S-stohohop! Dohohon’t tihihihickle mehehehehe!” Link had no chance of holding back his laughter any longer. His skin was on fire because of the phantom tickles, and a blush spread on his cheeks. He had been ticklish for as long as he could remember, and while Zelda discovering this little fact had been one of the happiest moments of his life, right now it was biting him in the ass.
“Oh but I strongly feel like you need this,” Rauru countered, moving his hands under the swordsman’s arms. Link let out an undignified shriek and burst into loud laughter, his arm immediately wrapping around himself. This, however, did nothing to stop Rauru, although it felt weird to squish a ghost’s hand.
“NOHHOHOHOHO STOHOHOHOP! IHIHIHI’LL KIHIHIHILL YOU!” He cried out while thrashing on the ground, realizing a little too late it was probably a stupid thing to threaten him. How did one kill a ghost in the first place? None of his thoughts mattered as the ticklish sensations continued to bombard his brain, sending him into a helpless fit of renewed laughter.
“Oh? Kill me, hm? Did you also forget that I’m a ghost? And how exactly are you going to kill me if you can’t even get up from the ground, Sir Giggles?” Rauru asked with a teasing smile, scribbling his ghostly nails a little faster into his armpits. When Link couldn’t properly threaten him anymore due to laughing too fast, he pulled his hands away to grant the boy a break. “Ohoho fuck… ahaha… you suhuhuck!” Link whined with a giggle, panting slightly as he caught his breath. Stupid goat. The King let out a laugh at that and shook his head again.
“Even in this position you’re still throwing insults, huh? Guess you don’t know when to quit, although that seems to be a positive side of you,” Rauru said, earning another eye-roll of the Hylian. He took a moment to take another good look at the Hylian in front of him, especially his shoulder and chest. While it had only been a few hours, Link’s body had already completely absorbed and adjusted to the new arm, despite Link not having full control over it yet. Link didn’t look tall or strong or intimidating, but his ability to adapt and overcome was his true strength. Rauru was pulled out of his thoughts by the sound of giggling, only then noticing that his claw was gently tracing the dark lines on his chest and ribs.
“Stohohop! Dahahamn you gohohohoat! Thahahahat tihihickles!” Link cried out in protest, embarrassed about the fact that a simple, light touch was enough to make him burst into giggles. Rauru noticed and smirked.
“My my, you really are ticklish, huh? This is enough to make you laugh? What if an enemy learned of your sensitivity, however would you survive?” Rauru teased, speeding up his fingers to really tickle him. Link cackled and threw his head back, attempting to wiggle his new arm side to side to try and dislodge himself from the boulder. However, whenever he got close to freedom, Rauru snuck his claws into his helpless underarm and tickled him until he lost concentration. The tips of his ears were red from both laughter and blushing at the teasing.
“Yohohou’re– AHAHAHA! You’re kihihihilling meehehehe! Lehehet me uuuuhuhuhup!!” He shrieked, once again reaching for one of Rauru’s hands with his free arm. Before he managed to do so, though, he felt his wrist being pinned.
“Hm, should I let you up? I might need to think about this for a while longer,” The King pretended to consider it, while raking his claw up and down Link’s taut stomach. If Link had been laughing and struggling before, it was nothing in comparison. The knight let out a roar of laughter while arching his back, kicking his legs wildly as he tugged at both his arms. Zelda loved to randomly tickle his stomach, since it was his most ticklish spot and it would send him into a giggle-fit if caught off guard. He usually never fought back, because he enjoyed being tickled, but now he was fighting for his life.
“PLEHEHEHEASE! I CAHAHAHAN’T! IHIHIHIT TIHIHICKLES!” Link howled with laughter, yet genuinely looked happy as he had a massive smile on his face. While Rauru was starting to feel a little sorry for him, he couldn’t help but smile at the expression and decided to keep going for a little while longer. When Link no longer had the energy to struggle and was simply laughing his heart out, Rauru finally pulled away.
“Now, I hope this taught you a little lesson. Are you done sulking?” Rauru asked with a smirk as he moved his hand, releasing Link from the boulder. The knight didn’t move and let out a huff, yet still smiled.
“I guess… thanks, Rauru,” He mumbled with a blush. The King blinked, before smirking a little wider.
“You take a minute to recover from this vicious attempt to kill you,” He playfully jabbed, earning another huff from the Hylian. “I’ll be waiting at the next Shrine for your arrival. Oh, and Link?” He said, turning around to face the knight, who had stood up.
“Hm?”
“I gave you that arm for a reason, you know. I truly believe you will manage.” He said with a smile, before vanishing. Link stood there for a moment, carefully considering those words, before moving on towards the next Shrine. Yet this time he wore a smile and a look of determination.

@aki-draws-things
Here’s an incomplete list of things Ron has said while in a fever state.
(Ron, like me, sometimes forgets that you’re really not supposed to drink on NyQuil. That’s the result of some of the crazier ones.)
“But what if the dinosaurs do come back and they decide to eat everyone besides me and then I’m alone.” This is said while crying after watching jurassic Park in a fever state that they didn’t know about
“But what if the cow decides to come inside?” Not actually a crazy question, Chris was looking after a calf and it needed bottle fed. Chris did end up bringing it into the bathroom. Tom came home and just stared for a while before deciding not to ask.
“What if I wake up and you aren’t here. It was all a dream and I’m in my dads house and I’m 12 and never going to escape.” This one is said sobbing. Chris and Tom both cry when they hear it. They feel horrible that they can’t convince him it’s real.
“Why is Jake so tall. He’s just a baby.” This is said while holding Jake. He doesn’t realize he’s holding the 2 year old so Chris takes Jake back.
*2022* “if I was a worm would you still love me?” Tom and Chris both think maybe he’s dying. Jesus what the fuck Ron.
“If I wanted to I could marry you. I would. Fuck my dad I’ll marry you.” This is said to a scarecrow. Chris and Tom drag him back inside and make him lay back down for a long time.
“Get the kid.” Chris ends up bringing Jake back with him. “Noo wrong kid the other kid.” They stare at each other for a good minute. Tom from the kitchen asks if he means the goat. “Absolutely the goat. I would ask for chickie if I wanted Jake? But I always want Jake. I’ll take both.” The baby goat is dropped off a few seconds later. Jake holds onto the goat while sitting and sniffling in Ron’s lap.
“Baby if you became Batman would you still love us?” 15 year old Jake just shoves his pa back down onto the couch.
“If I die you get everything important to me. You’ve gotta take care of them. Promise me.” This is said to Tom in 1998. Tom refuses to acknowledge that it was ever said to him but he of course agreed.
“If this doesn’t work. You’ve gotta make sure Tommy doesn’t follow me. You’ve gotta keep him with you. Keep him alive.” This is said to Chris during the same fever. Ron truly thought he was going to die. He was in the hospital for a week.
“Bring me the cat I want to kiss her head.” This is how they know he’s sick the one time. He loves the cats but damn. Not enough to admit he wants to kiss their heads. (He kisses their heads privately.)
“Jakey why haven’t you kissed Bradley yet. It’s painful to watch.” Jake staring at his father wondering if smothering him with the pillow would get him in trouble. “Because I haven’t and he doesn’t like me?” Ron pats his face and nods. “You’re as bad with feelings as Tommy sometimes chickie.” “HEY.”
“I love you two more then the moon and the stars.” He gets a kiss for this one. And then a week later gets to take care of two sick idiots who insist on kissing him when he’s sick.

I believe you are the resident Knuxamy fan on Tumblr, so if I may ask: what do you like about it/see in them? I'm curious!🍀
Oh, I'm really not fhdjfhdsjkfhsdkj I'm basically this meme
Tumblr media
I guess I can share these extracts from an abandoned WIP of mine, where I did try to explain what kind of chemistry they'd have?
“So… how’s Sonic? Haven’t seen him in a while.” “Oh, you know, somewhere, as he does.” “Huh?” “He decided to go on a run around the world after we cleaned up the mess of the war. I understand him, really, after six months of being held prisoner…” “You don’t sound very worried.” “Why should I?” she laughed. “He can handle himself just fine. I’ll be the first to greet him once he’s back!” “Usually you don’t really wait for him.” “Oh, you jerk!” she shoved him. “I don’t– I don’t do that anymore! I’m done with chasing him.” “Really?” he scoffed. “That’s too bad. I still remember how spooked Sonic was when we ran into you and your friends that one time. Not even Eggman can say he scares him as much!” “Yeah, yeah, I was a kid. I thought that he would just learn that he reciprocated my feelings if I insisted.” “Don’t get me wrong: he’s still my friend and I care for him very much. And I’m glad he cares about me too. He’s good, and fun to be around, and I can’t wait to go on another adventure with him!” Before Knuckles could roll his eyes, she added: “But… I don’t know. I can’t chase his shadow for the rest of my life. It made me feel like we weren’t on the same level. With all the craziness in my life, I’d like to have someone more… stable at my side. Reliable. One that I know that they will be there if I look for them, y’know?” “So you’ve finally realized that Sonic is [unreliable]? Yeah, you sure grew up.” "Jerk," she repeated with a smile. "I know he's your friend too. Don't worry, I won't tell~"
“Oh, mind if I lift you up?” “Go ahead.” *Amy hammers Knuckles upwards* “Thanks! I nearly forgot this trick of yours.” *...* “Speaking of tricks!” *pulls out the Big Hammer* “Ta-dah!” “Wait! You still have that?” “Yep!” “It’s… very heavy, haha. I rarely need it. But sometimes, you just need that extra punch!” She swung her giant hammer downward, and the hit produced a loud, satisfying thud. The wall crumbled like it was made of cardboard. *...* His own hand-made hammer - a nice green and red hammer, with a spike on top and flames coming out of it at every swing - rested easy in the Hidden Palace, among his other little treasures. Truth to be told, he didn’t really like using tools; his punches were more than enough. But it was a present from a friend, and he’d always cherish it as such.
(you didn't think I'd pass the opportunity to remind people that Advance 3 is the GOAT and Knuckles and Amy paired together are powerhouses, did you? :P)
I wanted to avoid the cliché of Amy realizing that Sonic wasn't good for her after all, but I liked the idea of her getting closer to Knuckles because he's always there, he's a stable presence, and under his gruff exterior he really is a good friend to have.
(Amy is Amy. She's sunshine incarnate. I don't need to explain why Knuckles might come to like her:P especially if Amy understands that he's more of an introvert and they spend time simply chilling side by side)
Generally speaking, the two have a few traits in common, like being stubborn and hotheaded: so unlike many of my ships, which are either "opposite attract" or "the cutest babies ever 💖", they'd be birds of a feather: they'd banter because they have both strong personalities, but they can also understand each other. I like to think their dynamic could be "I can tease you and call you a knucklehead/kid, but no one else dare do the same!"
As for what they'd do, aside from meeting on Angel Island... well, that up there is a little idea that the two might hang out together by smashing old Eggman junk hfdjsfhsdkj

Oh em geeeeee!!! The finale was so good!!! The first few episodes were a little rough but it all came out for the better. The animation was so good, the fighting scenes, the characters, everything was just so good. I think a lot of the criticisms that it gets are reaching hard. Especially the animation. Like dude who cares if the camera switches perspectives a lot. I didn’t even notice it until some YouTuber talked about it. One thing I do not like however…is the music 😭 I loved the last song in the finale. It’s giving Disney princess and it fits everything else? Um. I love the jazzy ones like stay gone, and Lucifer vs alastor. Everything else reminds me of gacha life. Heaven is forever and poison is catchy and fits, everything else was freaking annoying. Then again I hate musicals. Also unpopular opinion but I do not like the song loser baby. Yeah I said it
Charlie and Vaggie have to be my favorite couple in the entire series. At first I didn’t really care for Vaggie but dude I’m so happy we got some backstory and even character development. She’s probably my top five now. She’s still kind of “just Charlie’s girlfriend” but at the moment I think it kinda fits. I’m assuming she’ll become her own character next season. Still very proud of her!
Charlie is so amazing!!! I love her. I can’t even describe it! I love how she’s not just happy all the time but she worries, she’s angry, she’s sad, she’s insecure. She’s not one dimensional like some main characters. Her demon form is cool asf. I’m happy she actually realized she’s the princess of hell and went full demon mode. I still feel like she was holding back. Maybe that’s just me. Also wtf happened to the cute goat thingie???? Is he dead? He was so cute 😭 also I love her cat keekee. Just adorable.
Cherri bomb’s character was a little strange to me. Like why is giving drugs to Angel? I know she’s a sinner and stuff and doesn’t care about redemption but if she was a good friend she wouldn’t have done that: it’s not like her from what I’ve seen from the addict video but hey! Maybe we’ll get some understanding next season.
Alastor is ok. I don’t care for him but he’s cool.
The egg boys are top tier. Rip sir pentious or whatever his name was.
Angel dust is amazing. His character development is just 😭😭😭 dude I’m so glad he isn’t just the “haha sex joke” anymore but rather “haha sex joke” because that’s his personality rather than just to make the show funny. so my unpopular opinion is that episode 4 was not needed and should’ve waited till season 2. When I think back to it…it just feels like a filler episode? It went too deep for only episode 4 and like they don’t even talk about it after that? And it’s not because of the assault scene. I thought it was written very good it just wasn’t good for s1. I think it should’ve been saved. Him and husk are so cute but I’d like for them to stay friends for a while. I think Angel needs to learn about platonic love before romantic love and build on trust.
Nifty is so funny and adorable. 1000/10
The angels were super cool. the character design are freaking awesome. I love how the excoriates are all women lmao. I like how even heaven isn’t really sure about heaven either. Adam is annoying but he also kept the show interesting. Lute is so badass. The way she ripped off her arm??? 😍 I hate her but love her. And I just love how we have an evil female character. She’s evil because she wants to dammit! The aspects of Christianity was kinda eye opening. As someone who reads the Bible I understand where the angels are coming from but also the demons. Does anyone really know what it takes to get to heaven? Adam was technically right from a biblical point. Follow the commandments and you should get to heaven right? Well not really which is why heaven is kinda tricky. Again super cool. 🤭 I love biblical references in stories.
One thing I love about the show…is how good the female characters are written. Might be an unpopular opinion but I think they’re written amazingly. They have their morals, they’re not all chasing after a man or only living for a man, they have their motives, some are evil, some are good spirited, and some fall into that grey area. I think Vivi wrote them perfectly.
Anyways I rate the show 9/10. I honestly thought I wouldn’t have liked the show after first three episodes but everything else made up for it. I love the show!!! So sad it’s ended already but 😔

between the devil and the deep blue sea | nike | re: finale
“My master is too strong. I'll die. I know this, and I'm okay with this.”
Nike thought they would be fast enough.
There was hardly a second of doubt in their mind if they would ever let that happen. It’s the stubborn part of them— there’s no asking whether you can or cannot, you just do— but as Alou transforms into a hideous goat monstrosity, they could only stay frozen in awe and horror. A moment’s distraction, just enough time for him to—
Squelch…
Thud.
Micah’s body hits the wall, and it’s sickening— how he was discarded as if he were just some toy, exactly the way Alou perceived him to be. Micah, who they owed so much to, not just in his role towards their counter attack, but in his companionship as a friend, who they didn’t realize was risking so much for their sakes, who knew he was walking to his death, but decided to face his destiny head on—
There’s hardly any hesitation before Nikephoras turns to Alou, eyes narrowed, a growl between their lips, despite the demonic features having already left their form.
A rift begins to glow brightly in between their hands. It glows white hot, almost painful to the touch, like metal melding over bare skin, yet Nike doesn’t let go. They grip onto it tightly, pulling at the chain that emerges from the light.
[♬]
Before they arrived at the mansion, Nike was nothing more than a walking shell bent on revenge.
To have so little, then have it all taken away—Somewhere in her mind, Nike convinced herself that perhaps peace was yet another one of her unreachable dreams; and the only way to survive was to fuel her heart with sins, and live like a wounded animal: setting their self ablaze and wait for the day their anger burned themselves from the inside out.
But that never happened, of course.
Coming here, Nike never intended on getting close. Why would they? They thought they were only going to stay with these people for a week at best. They wore the facade of a laughable fortune teller; something that they thought was far removed from the person they were.
( Though it was the great seer that invited people to partake in their desserts while they chat about their day, they didn’t have to make every effort to craft each sweet with careful hands. They didn’t have to teach people how to use coffee machines, or feel concern when they trip and fall in the gardens, or to encourage them when you read their doubts over a cup from a cup of tea. Very much less show care to someone who they punched over a game of darts.)
The mask doesn’t even last a day, really. When it all came crashing down, they figured it wasn’t worth keeping on pretenses. It was better that everyone knew right away for what they were—a liar, a con, send the message that they were someone they should stay as far away from.
It worked for some.
(Being scrutinized by the literature they read, lunging at liars in a game of greed, battling ideologies with their roommate.)
It didn’t for others.
(Honesty and optimism that confuses them, someone who still saw him as a friend even after their lies.)
So. Why?
( Redemption. It begins with quiet apologies: In a text chat, to someone who they got off on the wrong foot with, who they now call their brother-in-arms; on a park bench, showing concern for the one who’d hurt others they cared about. In a kitchen, cooking a meal together, no longer letting the shadows of the past keep them from making amends.)
Why was it that–
(Peace. Moments of stillness: All of them crowded in one room for a sleepover, playing games they haven’t played in many years. Quiet fortune readings, not to fool, but with a genuine desire to help. A conversation with a friend amidst smores.)
They couldn’t stop caring?
(Healing. Tears and vulnerability at multiple points in time. The both of them stumble their way through until all their walls are broken down. Finally learning how to let go of their guilt. Finding peace as they die on a velvet cushion, sacrificing themselves with no regrets.)
The soul chain starts to slip from Nike’s hands, and they feel themselves being pulled along with it. For a moment, as they struggle with the chain, they hear the ocean current against their ears, bubbling, threatening to drown, but Nike finds that they no longer fear the deep dark blue.
(They feel it, multiple hands reaching out to them. They grab Nike, keeping them from sinking further, and wherever they touch, warmth blooms and breaks through the cold. They lift them out of the waters, and they break the horizon.)
“Alright, you sanctimonious freak of nature—”
Nike pulls their chain inch by inch, a feat that takes every aching muscle in their body to accomplish. There is the sound of metal being dragged, chains piling on the floor, and soon something emerges from the soul rift.
“—You want a piece of this?”
At the end of the link, an anchor half their size rests at Nike’s feet.
Grabbing onto the chain, Nike spins the anchor. Using the momentum much like a ball and chain. When it has gained the right velocity, Nike puts all of their weight (the weight of their sins; the weight of their ocean) into their throw. They let out a guttural cry, swinging the anchor at Alou's legs. Regardless of whether it hits or misses, Nike pulls back the anchor so they can strike, again and again, relentless in their pressure.
All their life, Nikephoras has only ever had things taken from them, but they'll be damned if they didn't fight tooth and nail just when they just got something new to live for.
Not today. Not ever again.

-My TOTK Review pt 1-
I finished the game a while ago now, and even now I’m continuing to play it and collect almost everything while daydreaming about the world, lore, and my Oc’s personal story and how I might revamp her to fit this world more.
There are so so many things I’ve discovered through the game, and even the other day I lost my mind with someone I SUDDENLY realized while looking at the sheikah stealth gear. I’ll get into that in a bit.
So.
I figured I would make a review of my personal thoughts and opinions on the game. It’s too good not to do, and it would be interesting to hear what all y’all think.
Things I like:
• The Sky Islands. These are so damn beautiful and a highlight of the game. Not only does the game start off STRONG with the ‘plateau’ and it’s Temple of Time, but there are literally so so many things to do. I love the sky-dive challenges, the mining factory, and that one island that gives the Zonai headdress— I did that a few days ago and thought it was actually very unique!! I live up in the sky so much because it’s just, absolutely serene. Gorgeous. Spectacular and I love collecting all the mushrooms and plants up there.
• The ZONAI!!! Like, holy shit. Nintendo didn’t scrap what BoTW was originally going to be with all that alien tech and Link’s weird arm. I had hoped to see them do something with that, and even I did not expect the Zonai to have such a major part in TOTK. We all thought they were a mysterious tribe of people long long ago- and while they were, they were so so much more. A lot of people seem to have a gripe about the Zonai, being glorified goats that come from heaven or something, but I actually think a lot of their history was purposefully burned away from Hyrule, making them the tribe of ‘brutes’ that BOTW suggested them to be; or we all tenorized. But. My gosh, I love them so damn much?! Rauru is gorgeous and I’m so glad he exists, none of you can convince me otherwise!
• The Constructs. All of them. All of them are beautiful. Yes, I know the Divine Beasts are gone, but I do NOT care when there are these adorable Stewards that I want to hug and keep company because they are lonely and deserve to be appreciated! Also, I can build things?? I can build things. Glory be it’s Minecraft. I love even the Gacha Machines because they are so cool. And the shrines?? Absolutely amazing, in appearance, and even the statues in the end where you get the spirit orbs.
• The Temples. I’m so glad they brought temples back although I really wish there could have been more to them, like, original 8, but all in all, they were beautiful. My favourites had to be the Rito’s War Boat which was super cool, and Zora’s Giant Fish (I forget the names of them, but you know what I mean haha). I was very surprised they added a Spirit Temple, but I’m sad that thatbonly had me build a construct although, in the end, I was sooooooo hype I got to KEEP that construct and ride it 0w0
• Sidon, Teba, Yanobo, Riju. First of all, Sidon is beautiful, Teba is precious child must protect, Yanobo is Yanobo, and Riju has matured and grown up UwU Of course, this is something else that upsets me. While I was super SUPER HAPPY to have them accompany me for the Temples, having merely apparitions of them follow me around, while it’s cool, is just.... it’s very, very upsetting. I was hoping I could select any of them at any time to come with me, have dialogue and say encouraging things. Like, it would be NICE TO HEAR THEIR VOICES WHILE WE EXSPLORE!! Maybe they collect things as well and can even give me things as rewards or shows of speciation. Like, Nintendo could have done SO SO MUCH MORE with them and they DID NOT (don’t mind me I’m just upset because my fishy prince Sidon didn’t get to stay with me in the way I dreamt...) but it’s still cool....
• The Depths. Like, holy holy crap?? Nintendo literally might as well have spent the past.... 5-6 years alone on this place to make it the perfect place it is. It looks unbelievable and there are even little places like the Gerudo Underground Cemetary, and the Gerudo Dark Skeleton. It’s just small things like these that I really really like. There is also the Ancient Underground Fortress which I think is really neat, and speaks to a story. Also, the Lightroots?? Are simply amazing?? I’ve almost gotten them all, not quite, but close! The boss fights you can relive down there are also a nice touch, as well as almost all enemies and their gloom-corrupted forms.
• The new enemeies. I really love the return of more enemies. The Horrorblins remind me of the Bokoblins from TP, very creepy, and actually seeing Gleeoks is a MASSIVE. MASSIVE BOON FOR ME BECAUSE ✨hydra-dragons✨King Gleeok is a B***H to kill tho... not gonna lie. Might try that again later on today :’P also, they added in the silver enemies as well. I never saw those in BOTW because, I think, those were Ballad of The Champtions DLC exclusive. It’s really nice to have tougher enemies— and the Bokoblin’s charge attacks are always annoying. The Lynels are my favourites to fight tho; their horns are soooooooo good for fusing yo the master sword. 60 dang bby, I’m a monster >8)
• We. Can. Actually. Join. The. Yiga. Clan. These fools won’t know what hit them and I’m laughing because they are all such hormonal, love-deprived twats that are so emo and edgy and need more to eat then just bananas. Maybe banana bread. Make them that, and they will be happy. Glory to Master Khoga.
• I finished the Labaryths around last week and. Hellll yaaaahhhh I’m getting my Edgy Teen Ganon vibes ooonnnnn— I literally don’t take this stuff off because. Cape. No excuses just cape. Me fancy, with sorcery! No sword, just sorcery (secret Yiga technique) yeeting fools into the air ehehehehehehehehehehheeh
• Dragons. An actual reason for the dragons, and I love we can collect a bit more from them in terms of the shards, and they don’t just vanish after taking something from them, I can stay of Naydra’s back for hours and take as many scales, horns, claws, fangs as necessary. Also, what’s interesting is, instead of going up, like they did in BoTW, they go down now, into the Depths, which is really interesting to me. They are literally like... Dolphins, hopping in and out of the rifts and I can ride them still while they do so by standing on their snouts B3
• This gets it’s own ping for literally being my favourite. Silver Lizalfos horn. Fuse to master sword. Master Scythe. Nothing more to say~
• Another thing (or rather 3) that gets their own ping for being top of my list despite being alllllll the way down here. Elemental dragon outfits??? I need to get the charged set but I don’t think I can because I got Mineru by my own exploring and mistake and I don’t think I can trigger the side quest.... :’)))) which MAKES ME MAAAAADDDDDDDD—- but flame set ~ my beloved~ dyed purple because purple hair~ Glows in the heat??? My favourite UwU
What else is there...?
Ah yes.
• Koroks. They did not get rid of these little guys but the new quests??? They shouldn’t hav.... I can abuse forest children by attaching them to rockets and launching them into the sky for the greater distance, then bring them to their friend. Also, the new little hidden challenges. I found a dandelion and I was so confused until I touched it XDD they are so creative. Also have you SEEN THE NEW ANIMATION FOR HESTU’S DANCE????? IT’S SO CUTE!!! KOROKS JOIN HIM!! I’M 😭😭😭😭😭
Phew, this is quite long already and there are still things I could list... But I think I will end this here and make another update later on listing the things that SHOCKED ME, and then the things I didn’t like about the game, and finally, the things I terrorize and lore stuff. :>>

be my baby.
“ten minutes and i mean ten, elizabeth rose. you can’t be up all hours on the phone with that-“
receiver sandwiched between her ear and shoulder, eliza rolls her eyes as she kicks her bedroom door shut behind her. an eye roll is dangerous, considering she’s already as close to being grounded as an adult can be, but she (almost) doesn’t care anymore. the phone cord is too short to go far into her room so she yanks what she can under the door and sits on the floor with a curse.
“oh come on,” indigo says on the other end. “i wanted to hear what she was going to call me this time.”
eliza huffs and sighs, looking up at her ceiling. “she doesn’t even really call you anything anymore,” she says. “you’re ‘that-‘“ she pauses to imitate the low, annoyed noise she makes instead of saying his name. he laughs and she fights to smile. “well i’m glad you think it’s funny.”
“a little bit.”
“you don’t have to hear it all day,” she points out.
“okay, that’s fair. is she still mad?”
the door to her parents room slams shut hard enough that she feels a faint rattle against her back. “yeah, i’d say so. i think it’s friendlier in moscow.”
it’s been a week since she got home at four am after going out for the night with indigo in seattle. she had done so knowing damn well there was no way she would be home in time for her eleven pm curfew but she decided to pretend that it didn’t exist. eleven came and went while they were still at the concert and once it had been over, she didn’t see any reason to head back to tacoma. it wasn’t like it would be any better if she were an hour late or three, she said with bravado she didn’t quite feel. she was twenty after all. it wasn’t exactly like she could still be grounded.
so no, she hadn’t been grounded but it had been a long week of stony silence and slammed doors. she has taken to staying at the office later and later, trying to find some additional task to do to avoid the bus they. the night she had asked the operators if she needed help with emptying their wastebaskets was the moment she realized she needed to do something or she would snap.
“what if you came here?”
“baby, if i want to sleep in the house, i’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”
“but you could sleep here,” he clarifies. “permanently.”
the meaning of the offer comes a moment later and she raises her eyebrows. if staying out until dawn causes her parents to lose their minds to this extent, she’s fairly sure that her moving out to live with her boyfriend, who she is absolutely not married to and who they absolutely do not like as much as they pretend to, would probably lead to her being shipped off to nebraska to aunt valerie’s goat farm.
what could they do to her anyway? she was twenty with a job and a bus pass. indigo moved out of the neighborhood and downtown last year and doesn’t seem to have destroyed his entire life. they both have decent jobs and one driver’s license between them but the fact that it’s different for boys holds her back. “but what will the neighbors think?”
he laughs again. “‘joe and adelaide? you know they don’t.”
she sighs and rests her head against the door. “i can’t.”
“since when do you let them tell you what you can’t do?”
she laughs and looks around her room. he has a point. “i mean, you’re going to marry me eventually anyway,” she says, shooting for a flippant tone that she doesn’t 100% feel. she hates girls who say they’re not that kind of girl - they usually are anyway. this though, the type of girl who lives with a boyfriend before getting married, who sets up her own life? that’s not a type of girl she ever thought she could be. she doesn’t even know where she would find one those girls to ask about logistics.
“when you least expect it,” he agrees. “why wait?”
“can we please use my bed instead of yours?”
“if we can get it here. come on, it’ll be fun.”
“i’m not making dinner every night.”
“that’s fair. i can cook.”
she hums and stands, nearly dropping the phone in the process. she has a gut feeling that cooking for indigo generally means opening a can but that he’s willing to offer is more than she can say of any other man she knows. from down the hall, she hears the thump of the vacuum cleaner coming out of the closet and one of her mother’s earth shattering sighs. eliza has spent most of the years since joey died clawing at the walls and wanting to be anywhere but home and here’s her out.
“okay.” she takes a deep breath. “when are you picking me up?”
“tomorrow too soon?” he asks, making her laugh. “i want you here.”
she softens. “i want to be there. but maybe saturday.”
“saturday it is.”
they exchange i love yous and she hangs up, opening the door to face her parents.

THE FUCKIN YANDERE GODS OMFG AWOOGA YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB THE FIC IS GOOD AS HELL!!!!
Is there any chance youd write a part 2 in the future? Its absolutely cool if you dont want to but WOW this concept? Solid gold (no pun intended)
I honestly love how people reacted to this story. It was so fun to write and became my most popular story to date. I'm such a sucker for the gods and mortals forbidden romance trope is just chefs kiss. Also, puns are always intended. Hand em over.
This chapter doesn't really involve the reader much, it's kinda more of a filler but I want this story to become a series, which means shorter chapters to separate the story. This is just simply a lore filler chapter.
TW: Mention of amnesia, memories being altered
Send me a message via inbox if you wanna be added to a general or series tag list. Make sure to turn off anon, please.
Mortal of Gold (Yandere!C!Techno x GN!Shy!Reader x Yandere!C!Philza) Part 2
It was quiet, for once, but there was a soft wind blowing through the curtain-covered doorway that prevented most light from seeping through. Two figures stood in the other corner of the room, staring into the bronze bowl filled with liquid, watching the destruction they caused spread across the village of L'Manberg with darkened eyes narrowed into glares.
"They deserved it..." Philza murmured, likely to Chat who was resting on his striped hat, giving the odd little squawk or chirp every so often. He gave a sigh and popped a piece of bread he tore off into his mouth, giving a small piece to his whining bird afterwards.
"I don't think the mortals have ever seen you lash out at them in person... Usually, you just send your crows to destroy their crops when they annoy you." Techno chuckled softly as he stole a piece of bread from Philza which caused him to give an annoyed scoff and bat his hand away, "But-"
"YOU SUMMONED 10 WITHERS?" A voice boomed through the palace, causing Phil and Techno to sigh and back away from the dish displaying their destruction proudly, "AND KIDNAPPED A MORTAL?"
The blond rubbed his face and Techno took off his glasses while they both walked out the door. Walking down the polished quartz stairs, the two gods quickly came into eye contact with the source of the voice, as well as a few other visitors.
"You're just mad because we tried to kill your high priest, XD, don't pretend like you follow the rules either." Technoblade sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose before putting his glasses back on, "And the mortal is none of your concern. We just did something about it, unlike you fawning from a distance over your mushroom boy."
Despite the cracked mask covering the god's face, everyone around him knew he was irked from Techno's statement. The three other gods behind him snickered into their hands until DreamXD snapped his head in their direction, the thin golden ring halos around his head gained a red glow to them.
The two brunets behind him immediately snapped their mouths shut, but the blond kept snickering away to himself, causing him to get smacked upside the head by one of XD's floating hands before he turned and stormed out the door.
"Ow! Bloody dickhead!" The blond groaned and rubbed the side of his head. The God of Mischief and Determination, Tommyinnit, scowled in the direction of the maniacal god before turning back to his father and Techno, "Ay Dad. Didn't take you for the destructive type! I hear you pulled a Techno and wiped out a village with Withers!"
"Yeah! The explosions shook the entire Upperlands!" Tubbo, the God of Bees and Chess, cheered a bit as his bee buzzed around him, getting specs of pollen in his fluffy hair and decorating his small horns.
Chuckling to himself, the God of Music and Insanity looked behind him at the sandy ground covered in a faint black fog, "XD was throwin' a tantrum. It was honestly the funniest thing to watch," Wilbur adjusted with the guitar on his back, "So where's the little mortal you kidnapped?"
"They're under a sleeping spell at the moment while the amnesia spell sets in," Phil gave each of his sons a brief hug as a greeting, "Then we'll have to alter their memory so they don't panic, but they'll have to stay up here permanently, their mind could be shattered if they do return to the mortal world."
"Shattered?" Tommy repeated, reeling back slightly as Wilbur summoned a leather book in his hand, opening it and scanning through the words, "That sounds like a pretty violent backlash..."
Phil and Techno avoided Wilbur's suspicious glare as subtly as possible, pretending not to see it, "Well... Remember, they're a mortal. Plus the strain of their home being destroyed, getting robbed, then getting kidnapped by gods and being brought to the Upperlands... Who wouldn't go absolutely mental? Then if they see the remains of their old village, it could undo all the magic that was placed upon them."
"Makes sense to me!" Tubbo chirped, his small goat ears wiggling as he held Chat in his hands, "Can we at least see them now and visit them when they wake up?"
Techno tensed up a bit but realized quickly that two of the three of the gods visiting them were too young to consider dating, and the third one was married to a human that he was trying to turn into a merling. "I... Suppose so. Just don't be too loud or the spell will break."
Tommy rolled his eyes dramatically, but the feathers behind his ears ruffled slightly to give away his excitement. Although, he was much better at hiding it than Chat, Tubbo's bee TC (Twitch Chat if you're wondering), and Tubbo, despite the fact that Chat actively visited (Y/n). Wilbur didn't seem to care much, but there was a hint of curiosity in his eyes. Or that was his insanity kicking in.
The avian nodded and began leading his biological and adopted sons through Techno's palace, Chat chirping away in his mind. 'Gods, that bird doesn't shut up...' Phil rolled his eyes up to the sky for a moment before smiling a bit to himself, 'Better than everything being dead silent I suppose...'
"In here. Now shut up. The spell won't work twice in a row." Techno hissed quietly before moving aside the crimson satin curtains to allow his old friend's sons into his rarely touched bedroom. The quartz room was kept dark via similarly coloured curtains blocking the majority of the light from coming into the room, while still allowing enough so they could see. A canopy bed stood proudly in the center of the room with golden posts and pure white chiffon silk curtains swaying lightly with the blowing winds.
Phil and Techno couldn't help but smile softly to themselves at the thought of seeing you again, even if you were asleep and, at the moment, void of memories and personality. Techno led the way inside and gently hooked his fingers around the fabric and moved it aside to let the younger gods see the mortal they had saved from the cruelties of the Earth.
The three gods carefully took their time studying you, trying to find what had their father and the anarchist totally entranced. Their eyes carefully took the time to study your soft (h/l) (h/c) hair, your beautiful (s/t) skin, and your silk robes that were ombre from red to white, accented with the very golden accessories that the high priest had tried to steal. (They used magic to put you in the new outfit. They're yanderes not creeps.)
"Oh... They truly are stunning. Are you sure they're a mortal?" Tubbo frowned for a moment, straightening up and pulling Chat away from your motionless figure so the crow would stop trying to peck at your jewellery.
"What do you mean?" Wilbur frowned at the younger god, his adopted brother. This had also caught the attention of the other gods
"I mean... Don't think they're a mortal, or at least they weren't born one..."

Tumblr media
There was a wolf outside your window.
It’s eyes gleaming in the early morning light like molten gold with silver fur that melted into the snow.
You sat up in bed, wrapping your patchwork quilt around your shoulders as you scooted to the foot of the bed. It was staring at you, that much you were sure of. And that startled you, the almost human like appearance to its gaze was intense and unsettling. It was an animal, but it appeared to be far more intelligent than you had first anticipated.
Maybe it was hungry, perhaps that was why it was so intent on peering through your window.
No, it certainly wasn’t, that was evident. What you had missed before was glaringly obvious now, its silver muzzle was stained in red. It had made a fresh kill before it had wandered over to your cottage mere feet from the woods.
So, if it wasn’t hungry, why was it here?
You watched in morbid fascination as its tongue slipped out of its mouth and laved over the fresh, thick, crimson blood that decorated its muzzle. You could see the rows of sharp canines hidden within its maw for mere seconds before the wolf clenched its jaw shut and settled on its hindlegs in the drift of snow.
“My, what big teeth you have.” You whispered to yourself, your voice seemingly louder in the empty room.
You couldn’t help but wonder what it had made it’s meal. Perhaps a deer, or a squirrel, maybe a bird, or even a small, innocent, little rabbit.
That would have been ideal. But, you knew it was most likely one of the poor farmer’s livestock. Your village was small and self sufficient, rarely reaching out to its neighboring villages and rarely receiving visitors of its own. So, when the cattle and the goats began to disappear, only their entrails remaining, the town quickly became suspicious.
It was either one of two things, rebellious teenagers making a hassle for everyone, or a wolf amongst you.
If only you had known what was to come.
You stared back warily out the window at the creature, suddenly realizing just how easily it could bust through your flimsy window if it wanted to. This wolf was probably the largest you had ever seen, it was almost the size of a pony, with long limbs that held thick muscle from the time it spent chasing down its prey. You were certain a simple snap of its jaws would kill you in an instant if it desired to do so.
It’s gaze had not left you, petrifying you to your very spot. You felt like the two of you were playing a game, waiting to see who would be the one to make the first move.
The call of your mother’s voice was the tie breaker.
You rose to your feet, your bare skin brushing over the cool wood of the floor as you retreated through your door, back first.
“Yes?” You replied, angling your neck to the hallway for a moment.
“Hurry, sweetheart! You’re going to be late!” She called back from the kitchen.
The bakery had been in your family for the past three generations now, starting with your grandfather, then your mother, and now you. Your mother was showing signs of her age now, her hands were unsteady and unreliable creating more of a mess than a sellable meal. So, it was your turn now. It was the only thing you could do for her, besides be married off and you weren’t quite ready for that. No one was.
At least that was the gentle way of putting it, in reality you had made yourself quite the social pariah. You were a determined woman, one who liked to keep to herself, one who liked owning the bakery and not having to sign over the ownership to a husband. You had your mother to care for, a business to run, and a grandmother that lived deep in the woods to fret over.
It didn’t really matter what you wanted, you did what was necessary to stay afloat.
“Just a minute!” You called once more before slinking back into your room.
There was a noticeable difference about the space now, the wolf was gone. The only sign he had ever been there being the large dip in the snow that his form had disrupted and a track of paw prints headed into the forest. How strange.
You shook your head in an attempt to clear your thoughts, you didn’t want to think about what you would have to do if the creature returned. The shotgun looming over you from above the front door said enough.
You couldn’t allow a predator to get comfy around your home, that would only invite trouble into your life.
You dressed yourself quickly that morning in as many layers as you could. The walk to the bakery wasn’t a far one, but it was a frigid one. You made sure to wear your wool stockings and your leather boots, the snow looked to be thick and you didn’t fancy the idea of wet feet all day while you worked.
You leaned over the side of your bed, scooping up your bag and throwing the keys inside of it in one motion. The extra sleep you had gotten the night before had cost you the time you needed in the morning to ready yourself.
Once you gave yourself a quick look over and ran through your mental checklist, you rushed out of your room and into the main room of the house. Your house was more like a cottage, it was incredibly small. With only your mother’s room, your room, and the kitchen in one corner with the fireplace in the other it made for a quaint and cozy home. Albeit a cramped one.
“Your breakfast is on the table.” Your mother said, smoothing a stray hair behind her ear with trembling hands.
You could see her cleaning up the mess she had made that morning in an attempt to show you kindness. Normally, you were the one to wake early and prepare the both of you for the day ahead. But she had also told you many times before that she was your mother and she was supposed to take care of you as well.
You eyed the bowl of steaming porridge that sat upon the rickety table. “I don’t think I’ll have the time to eat it.”
“Then you’ll make the time.” She huffed, wiping a wet rag over the counter in two swipes.
“I shouldn’t have overslept.” You sighed, resting your bag on the floor as you took a seat.
“You needed the rest, dear. You’re up every morning at the crack of dawn and you don’t come home until nightfall. You don’t need to work that much.” She chided you, smoothing her hands over your hair in a fond manner.
“I do, for you and for Grandmother.” You reminded her. The cost of living was not cheap.
“And what about you? You should be spending time with people your age, not working yourself to the bone.”
“I don’t need anyone but you, and Grandmother.” You smiled before sipping at your spoon quickly, hissing as you burned the tip of your tongue in your haste.
“Youth is wasted on the young.” She chided under her breath, spurring a giggle from your throat.
You finished your food as quickly as you could before excusing yourself from the table and heading for the door.
“Your cloak, dear!” Your mother called as you pulled the door open, the chill of the snow seeping into your bones.
“Yes, mother!” You chirped with an amused roll of your eyes as you curled your fingers around the crimson fabric of the cloak. Your grandmother had made it herself two winters ago, as much as you loved it and her you had to admit it was a tad ostentatious and you weren’t exactly one for attention. But it was warm and it served its purpose well.
The door creaked shut behind you, squeaking softly as it settled back into the frame. The snow had fallen much higher than you had previously anticipated. You tightened the ties of your cloak and delicately flipped the large hood over your head before gripping your layers of skirts and hiking them up as you began your journey.
It was rather slippery that day, you couldn’t restrain the slight squeals that fell from your parted lips each time the heel of your boot found a patch of ice and sent you sliding. You were certain you should have caught the attention of a few passerbys, but to your surprise a large group of them had become preoccupied.
There were about fourteen of them, all in one great circle fervently discussing something. They seemed to be worried, panicked even. It had caught your attention now that the group was made up mostly of men excluding the butcher’s wife and daughter. Both’s cheeks were stained red, their eyes brimming with unshed tears as they held onto each other tight in the crisp air.
Your face tensed in confusion as you approached the bakery, the group not too far away from you.
“Oh, poor Sarah.” A tender voice cooed worriedly from next door. It was the tailor, she and her apprentice were stood outside, thick shawls wrapped around the both of them.
You occupied yourself by rifling through your leather satchel, pretending to look for the shop keys you held in that very hand. You knew that eavesdropping wasn’t very polite, but you also were the curious sort, and that curiosity demanded to be satiated.
“Don’t worry, miss. I’m sure they’ll find him soon, you know how the young ones are.” The apprentice said, her hand resting on the tailor’s shoulder in a gesture of comfort.
“It’s not like William though, he’s a sweet boy. It doesn’t make any sense for him to go up and missing at the crack of dawn.” She replied, her dark eyes narrowing in suspicion. “I just find it funny is all, that a stranger shows up here the same day that Sarah’s boy disappears.”
“Coincidence isn’t evidence.” The apprentice hummed, pulling her shawl tighter around herself  as she began to back up against the shop door, aggravated by the chilly air. “I’m sure he’ll turn up, with a search party that size he’ll be back home in no time.”
With that, you finally retrieved your “missing” keys and unlocked the door, sliding into the safety of the bakery. You knew William as well, he really was a sweet kid...to most. Your heart did go out to Sarah though, you didn’t know the pain of a missing child but you could empathize. The sight of her broken face remained burned into your mind as you readied the shop, lighting the hearth and preparing your materials to start your first batch of bread for the day. Your late start was going to nip you in the behind, most of the women arrived by noon to get their first pick of goods and the two hours it would take to make your batches was going to loom over your head the entire time.
You were mid kneading your dough when the familiar tinkle of the bell above the shop door demanded your attention. You paused for a moment, your aching arms thanking you for the short reprieve. Almost immediately your breath was caught in your throat. You had been expecting one of the regular mothers wandering their way in, or perhaps even one of their children running errands. Not this man that stood before you.
This was most obviously the stranger the tailor had been referring to moments earlier, there was no mistake. Your village was small, everyone knew everyone and this stranger looked nothing like any of the people in your town.
He was so much taller than anybody else, broader too. But most astonishing was his pure silver hair and the deep honey shade of his eyes. You had never seen anyone as young as him with hair that light, it surely wasn’t grey, the shade far too bright to be mistaken with something that dull. He was damn near ethereal and unfairly attractive. His looks had almost distracted you from his attire but now that you were paying attention, he was severely underdressed for the weather. He had to be freezing cold.
“Hello, can I help you?” You asked softly, patting your hands against your apron to remove the excess flour from your skin.
He had a rather confident stance, like he was the owner of the shop instead of you, you who was slightly cowering and thrumming with anxiety.
He sent you a wide grin, his teeth were pearly white and for some unknown reason that sent your heart crashing into your stomach. You could have sworn they even looked slightly pointy at the ends, not unlike those of the creature you had seen outside your window that morning. You had almost been distracted by the sweet dimples that rested in his cheeks. What duality he had.
He tilted his head back slightly, peering down at you from above, “Hm, I’m looking for something sweet.” He hummed.
“Sweet?” You mumbled to yourself, resting your hand on your hip in thought.
“Oh! I made some sweet rolls yesterday, how about that?” You said with a snap of your fingers, retreating further into the shop without a response from him.
Now in work mode you busied yourself with preparing the stranger’s order. You couldn’t help but wonder why he had arrived, what his reason for being there was. Barely anybody passed through your village, and they certainly didn’t stay as long as he had.
Once you had retrieved the tray of rolls you set them on the counter before grabbing a pot of freshly warmed icing and gently drizzling it over top. Once each roll had been thoroughly coated, you set the pot aside and headed to the cupboard to retrieve a bag for them.
“Perfect.” You sighed in irritation, craning your neck back to see the top of the shelf.
Normally, you had endless amounts of bags and never needed the ones stored on the top shelf. But this winter had been far more difficult than past ones and your stock had not been refilled in quite a while.
Desperately not wanting to search for your wooden stool, you stubbornly resorted to balancing on the tips of your toes, your fingers just barely brushing against the material of the bags. You groaned in frustration, bouncing up slightly only to knock the bags back further on the shelf and worsen the ache in your shoulder.
Just as you were about to give up and resort to looking for your rickety stool, you felt a hand settle on your waist and a chest press against your back as the stranger reached up and grabbed the bags for you. He was incredibly warm, so warm you thought he may even be sick. He felt as warm as the heat emanating from a fire of fresh coals and that was incredibly alarming, but also explained his state of dress.
You flinched in surprise as you felt him set the bags aside and settle his other hand on your shoulder. It was deathly quiet, the only sounds being his slow, steady breaths underlying your panicked ones accompanied by the calm rise and fall of his chest against your back. You had never been this close to anyone before, it was incredibly uncomfortable.
You felt much like a rabbit, cornered, panicking, and believing that if you stayed still enough he wouldn’t see you and would go away.
He gently rested his forehead against your hair, nuzzling from side to side before reaching up and playing with a stray strand. You could feel him taking a deeper breath this time, humming softly like he was pleased.
“Sweet.” He mumbled to himself.
Oh. Oh, no. Who did this man think he was? You were not on the menu. You shuddered in fear before jerking away, smacking his hands off of you.
You turned on your heel, backing away from him as you fixed him with an annoyed glare. The look he gave you was one of clear confusion, a layer of hurt and frustration buried beneath.
“I’m not sure how things work where you come from, but normally you ask for permission before you go touching someone you don’t know.” You huffed, slamming the empty bag on the counter as you began to package the rolls.
It didn’t matter if he was attractive or not, you were not going to let him touch you as he pleased or get the wrong message that you weren’t even conveying in the first place.
The stranger rounded the counter, the block of wood effectively separating the two of you, making you feel a little safer. His eyes looked darker than before, less like honey and more like amber.
His confident demeanor had returned, effectively confusing you even more.
“Forgive me,” He said, another smile gracing his lips as he rested his forearms on the countertop, “It seems we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot? My name is Namjoon, and yours?”
So, he did have the capability to be somewhat of a gentleman. He was rather well spoken, and his strange mannerisms and quiet demeanor had all but disappeared in a flash.
So, begrudgingly, you replied with your name.
He repeated it after you, his tongue swiping over the full flesh of his lower lip like he was tasting it, sending a chill down your spine.
“I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, you were correct in assuming where I come from we do greetings a little differently.” He said with a soft chuckle, his amber eyes tracing every movement you made.
You did feel a little bad now for how you had lashed out at him. Normally, you weren’t one who was quick to anger, but that still didn’t excuse what he had done.
“It’s alright,” You said, slowly, “You need to be more careful though, if that had been anyone else I don’t think you would have gone unscathed.”
“Are most of your people so quick to violence?” He asked, titling his head slowly, a strong sense of intrigue exuding from his form.
“I wouldn’t say so normally, but we’re all a little on edge as of late. Our livestock has been attacked and just this morning one of us went missing.”
“Missing?” He asked, a new glow to eyes.
“Yes, I’m afraid so. The butcher’s son hasn’t been seen all day, it’s very unlike him.” You said, your teeth sinking into your lower lip, unsure if you should tell him more. But, considering it concerned him you felt maybe it was in his best interest to tell him.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t stick around for too long. Some find it suspicious you turned up the same day that William went missing.”
“And what if I don’t feel like leaving just yet?” He asked, disregarding the information you had just given him as if he had no reason to be worried.
You had no answer for him, truly you didn’t. The packaged rolls sat between the two of you and a long stretch of silence as he stared at you and waited for a response that didn’t come. And, without another word, he dropped a few too many coins on the counter, gathered up the bag, and headed for the front door.
He stopped for only a moment, his fingers gently stroking at your red cloak you had hung up beside the door. His amber gaze trailed over each stitch as he lightly grazed the material a few more times.
“I’ll be seeing you soon, little red.”
~~~~~~~
After he had left, your day had not gotten any easier. Just as you had expected, it had been another busy day. You had managed to satisfy all of your customers, despite that late start you had made.
There were a few upsides to the job you had, one being that it allowed you to tune into any gossip you would normally miss out on. You were more of a hit with the older women of the village, the people your age finding you to be a tad strange and off putting.
That day your shop had been filled with hushed whispers of what had come to pass, the search party still had not returned from their trip to recover William. The outlook was not in the boy’s favor, not with the increase in predator activity you had been receiving as of late. You weren’t so sure you would be seeing William walking back into town any time soon.
Once the day had come to an end, the sun dipping just below the tree line and casting shades of red over the snow, you had extinguished the lights of your shop and were locking up, your hood drawn over your head. That was when you found out the horrible truth.
As you slid the shop keys into your bag and turned on your heel, you saw the search party emerging from the woods. And with them, you could see a blanketed form lying in the snow, the sheet swaddling the body slowing turning red.
You swallowed harshly, turning as quickly as you could and beginning to make your way through the snow and away from what you knew was coming. You didn’t want to see the look on Sarah’s face, you didn’t want to watch her go boneless in the arms of her husband. But it didn’t matter what you saw or didn’t see, you would never forget the sound of her screams piercing the crisp, snowy air.
Your breath was visible in hot puffs in front of your face as you felt the burn of tears beginning to prick at the corners of your eyes. It didn’t matter if you didn’t care for William, it didn’t matter if you knew what he was really like, there was nothing quite like the sound of a mother’s heartbreak. It was enough to send anybody down to their knees.
Your numb fingers wiped away the warm tears rushing down your cheeks, and amidst your blurry vision you could have sworn you saw a familiar figure slinking off into the woods, a flash of silver hair that just barely materialized. You could have sworn that that was Namjoon disappearing like a ghost into the frigid depths of the forest.
You shook your head, you shouldn’t bother yourself with what he was doing, your main goal should be getting home before the sun completely dips below the horizon and plunges you into darkness. So, with that thought, you rushed home.
Once you entered the cottage, things didn’t get any better. Your mother was stood there, waiting anxiously for your arrival. As soon as you had stepped foot inside she whipped the door shut and helped you remove your cloak as you toed your boots off.
“No more working late, do you hear me?” She said, gripping your shoulders to get you to look at her. “It’s not safe out there.”
“Word travels fast then?” You asked humorlessly.
“It’s a shame what happened to that boy, and I’ll be damned if that happens to you.” She replied sternly.
“And what about Grandmother then? What do we do about her? She’s out there, all alone, with no one to protect her.”
“She has the lumberjack-”
“And he only checks on her every two weeks.” You interrupted, “Let me go out tomorrow and bring her back to us. I’ll go first thing in the morning.”
Your mother bit her lip, her hands shakily settling on her hips as she thought to herself. “I’ll go with you then.”
“No, you can’t possibly think you’ll be able to make the trip. The snow is thick and it’s a long walk there, you’ll exhaust yourself. It’ll be better if I go, faster too.” You said as you approached the fireplace, raising your hands to the flames to warm them.
“And your grandmother, you think she’ll be able to make it back through the snow?” She probed, raising her eyebrow.
She had a point, if you were saying she wouldn’t be able to make it there how would you expect your grandmother to make it back with you?
You rested your hand on the back of your neck, pacing the floor and causing your layers of skirts to swirl around your ankles. You came to a sudden stop, your eyes settling on the shotgun that was mounted above your front door. Idea.
You didn’t like the thought of her being out there all alone, but if you knew she had something to protect her from the wild animals that would make you feel much better.
“Alright, what if I bring her some supplies instead? I’ll grab some things that’ll last her a good while and I’ll show her how to use the shotgun. I’ve saved up some money of my own, I could purchase us a new one.” You mused out loud.
You loved your grandmother, she was the last living member of your father’s side of the family, she was the only connection you had to him at this point. You couldn’t bear the thought of losing her just yet, not when you could prevent it from those creatures that were beginning to terrorize your people.
Your mother was silent once more, her thumb settled between her lips as she nervously chewed at the nail. She didn’t like the idea of you headed out into the woods alone, but she was comforted by the thought of you taking the shotgun with you, that much you were certain of.
“We don’t know when the next storm will hit, and the last thing we need is for her to be stuck out there, all alone, with no food, surrounded by the wild. Let me go.”
And that was enough to break her resilience.
“Promise me, promise me that you’ll come back.” She whispered, her body visibly sagging as those words left her lips.
“It goes without saying.” You murmured, wrapping her up in your embrace.
It was easier this way, you didn’t want to make a promise you had no certainty in keeping.
The air in the cottage had lost all tension, everything was much calmer than before. But your peace could only last for so long. It was when you entered your bedroom that you realized something else was wrong.
The room was positively frigid, and upon further inspection you realized that your window had been pried open, the cold winter air surging forth and snuffing out any traces of heat.
You surged forward and grasped the window, attempting to swing it shut as quickly as you could to try and insulate whatever warmth was left. But the thick scent of copper quickly stalled your movements. Instead of closing the window, you found yourself leaning forward into the brisk air, sniffing intently as you tried to make out where the scent was emanating from. You didn’t have to look far.
Your hands sealed themselves over your mouth, smothering the scream that threatened to break through them.
Sitting in the snow where the wolf had once laid, was a human heart. The snow seemed to sizzle around it, the organ still warm and slick with blood that carved rivers and valleys into the pure ice.
You could feel bile rising up your throat, your vision shaking so violently it made it appear that the heart was vibrating with steady pumps like it was still alive.
And, to your horror, you could make out a form a few feet back in the snow. The only thing that was visible in the pitch black were it’s molten gold eyes, shining back at you in recognition before it scuttled away into the darkness.
You frantically slammed the window shut and drew the curtains closed tight.
There was no mistake now, someone or something had been following you.
~~~~~~~
When you awoke the next morning from a restless sleep, you elected to keep your discovery to yourself.
Although you were incredibly frightened by what you had seen, the last thing you needed was to scare your already frail mother. Your grandmother was still in need of assistance, and you couldn’t allow your mother to halt your plans. You had a mission to accomplish, and you were set on completing it with a shotgun slung over your arm and a picnic basket on the other.
So, you shakily grasped your red cloak and wrapped it around your shoulders in haste, your fingers struggling to do up the ties at the base of your throat. Once you had completed the normally easy task, you slipped your basket onto the inside of your elbow and pulled down the shotgun from its resting place above the door.
You regularly cleaned it, a task your father had enjoyed teaching you at a young age, so you were certain it wouldn’t jam if you needed to use it in a hurry. You slid a box of ammunition into your pocket, one for you, and another box into the picnic basket, one for your grandmother.
And then you were off, bidding your mother goodbye with a hug and a swift kiss to her cheek, and an unspoken promise tittering on the edges of your lips saying that you would be home for supper. But those words were better left unspoken.
The sun was just barely peeking through the thick clouds overhead, you were certain a blizzard was brewing. This only urged you to move quicker through the cleared paths.
But the clouds weren’t the only foreboding message that morning, it was the mother’s wailing in the town square. There were three more now, holding each other in a comforting manner as they wept into each other’s shoulders.
More children had been snatched from their mothers.
Sarah sat by herself, of her own volition, an obsidian mourning veil obscuring her tear stained features. A chill ran down your back as you urged yourself to walk by them quicker, she looked more like an executioner than she did a mourner, surrounded by a choir of weeping women.
You could still hear the echoes of her cries in the back of your mind, the raw chords striking your ears once more.
You tightened your grip on the strap of your shotgun, your pace slowing as you reached the bridge that led you into the forest. You felt like you could breathe now, despite the knowledge that people your own age had lost their lives in the thick overgrowth before you. The relief that you felt from the women in the square outweighed your fear.
The bridge creaked in protest as your boots tapped against the wood. It would need to be repaired come spring.
“Little red!” A voice called from the treeline causing you to suddenly stop, snow kicking up beneath your boots.
Moments later, a familiar figure emerged from the frost coated trees, tall, ash hair, and honey eyes. Namjoon.
“Where are you off to, little red?” He cooed, his voice low with a sultry edge that sent shivers down your spine. You couldn’t tell if they were delighted or terrified chills.
“My grandmother’s, what are you doing here?” You asked, your body tense and defensive.
He drew nearer now, a wide grin gracing his lips with a set of teeth so white they resembled the snow beneath your boots. The closer he got the more you noticed about him. His perfect white teeth seemed a little sharper than most, and the clothes he wore were once more, not suited for the frigid weather.
“I caught sight of this old thing,” He hummed, his finger tracing over your cloak and the strap of your shotgun as he slowly circled you, “And couldn’t help but see you.”
You stepped back hesitantly, his presence was unnerving. Without saying anything more you pulled away from his reach and began to walk by him briskly, headed into the woods.
“Leaving so soon? We only just met.” He laughed, it would have been a nice contagious laughter had you not heard the bitter edge to it.
“I’m afraid I don’t have the time to dawdle, Namjoon. I need to reach her before the storm hits.”
“Well then, won’t you let me accompany you?”
“I don’t need an escort, I know my way just fine, thank you very much.”
“And what about the beasts then?” He asked from beside you, sending you halting to a stop.
“Beasts?” You asked slowly, gazing up at him from beneath the cover of your hood.
“Well, surely you know?” He asked in a patronizing tone, his honey eyes narrowing. “Four people from your village have gone missing, red. Surely you know that wasn’t an accident. Great beasts have roamed this forest for centuries and they don’t take kindly to intruders. It would be much safer if I came with you.”
You stood there for a moment in silence, contemplating his words. He was not wrong, two people were much safer than just one.
So, begrudgingly, you accepted his offer.
His hand quickly captured your own, his fingers intertwining with yours as he pressed his side tightly to your own with a grin. How bold. You were struck once more by the fact that he was incredibly warm, it was no wonder why he wasn’t bundled up like you were. It felt like he had struck a fever.
Namjoon filled the silence between the two of you surprisingly well, telling you stories of the great beasts that roamed the woods, effectively scaring you and holding your attention. He had a way of speaking that drew people in, like a siren from the stories your father had read to you.
It was easy to forget with him, easy to forget why you had been frightened in the first place, easy to sink into his side as his warmth seeped into your flesh, and easy to get lost in his voice.
That was of course, until you felt him pulling you off of the path.
You dug your heels into the snow, tugging at his hand violently. “Namjoon!”
“Yes?” He asked.
“What are you doing? Her cottage is this way, we stay on the path, we never leave the path.” You said, gesturing towards the dirt pathway beneath the two of you.
That was a spoken rule in your village, never go off of the path.
“That’s ridiculous,” He chuckled, “If we continue the way you were going, that doubles the time it takes to get there, it’s better we take the shortcut.”
“No.” You sternly said.
“And why not?”
“Because, there’s predators out there! Mountain lions, bears, wolves!”
A mischievous smirk pulled at the corners of his lips, “Are you scared of wolves, little red?”
“I’m scared of anything that wants to eat me.” You replied with a dry tone.
“Well you do smell very sweet-”
“Namjoon!”
He took a deep breath, his eyes darting between you and the shortcut. “I promise you, nothing will hurt you while I’m here. Besides, did you know some flowers bloom in the winter?”
“What? You can’t be serious.”
“I am, there’s a field of flowers this way, all different breeds that bloom in the dead of winter. Don’t you think your grandmother would enjoy those?”
You chewed at your lip uneasily. He knew exactly what to say to make you question your own actions. You would be lying if you said you didn’t want to see what he was talking about, and you knew that yes, your grandmother would be elated by something so cheery in the bleak winter months.
So, after a few moments of consideration, you agreed.
And Namjoon had not been lying. After a few minutes of trekking through the deep snow the two of you emerged into a clearing, and just like he said, it was filled with flowers of all different breeds.
You found yourself crouching down into the field, your fingers trailing over each velvety petal that had somehow found a way to survive in the clutches of an icy death. Your favorites were the deep red roses. They were a dead match for your cloak, a beautiful color that was delicately dusted with soft flakes of snow.
You couldn’t help but greedily pluck several blossoms from the foliage, slipping them into your basket.
And, amidst your excitement, you hadn’t noticed just how close your companion had gotten until you felt him. That incredible warmth had returned as he crouched down behind you, and just like he had in the bakery, you felt him lightly nuzzling your head and breathing in your scent as he pressed himself closer to you, his arms winding around your body in an attempt to pull you even tighter to him.
You froze, your finger mid pull on the rose’s stem causing you to slice the appendage on a stray thorn. You hissed in pain as you watched the blood drip from the tip of your finger before rolling down your wrist and carving a pool into the snow beneath you.
And, without a thought, Namjoon’s hand encircled your wrist and yanked it up to his face.
His once honey eyes appeared brighter than before, his long lashes fluttering as his warm breath misted over your skin. And before you could stop him, he licked a line up your wrist, collecting the blood, and pressed your finger to his lips swiping his tongue over the wound.
You yelped in surprise, wrenching your hand free from his grip as your heart pounded violently. You rose to your feet and stumbled backwards through the snow.
Namjoon remained where he was crouched, a sudden hunger evident in his honey gaze, a gaze that was not so unfamiliar.
“We-we need to go!” You stuttered, turning on your heel and retreating from whatever had just happened.
You held your hand close to your chest as you walked, frightened by what had just transpired. A part of you suddenly wished you had made your journey alone as you had previously intended.
But the harsh crunch of snow behind you reminded you of the choice you made, and the molten glare digging into your back exemplified it.
~~~~~~~
The rest of your journey was made in complete silence, a new tension had settled between the two of you. And, true to Namjoon’s word, the way he had taken you was indeed a shortcut. So, you felt no remorse as you sprinted toward the cottage ahead of you and threw a weak thank you over your shoulder.
You couldn’t stand the awkward tension anymore, you couldn’t stand being in his presence any longer than you needed to.
As soon as you approached the front door, you threw it open and let it shut behind you. You leaned against the door for a moment to catch your breath before you shrugged the shotgun off of your shoulder and strung it up on the hook beside the front door.
“Grandmother!” You called as you began to approach the kitchen door, “I’m here!”
And upon opening it, a blood curdling scream broke free from your lips.
The sight before you could only be described as a massacre. Your hands desperately tried to cover your eyes, but the damage had already been done. There was blood, so much blood amongst other things laid out atop the counter.
You fell backwards, your body sliding down the wall as hoarse screams raked through your throat. The unmistakable scent of blood was thick in the kitchen sending your stomach churning in your gut. You knew that scent, it was clear as day whatever had remained in that room had once been human.
“Sweetheart?” A familiar voice called out to you.
And upon opening your eyes, you saw your grandmother standing before you. The sudden feeling of elation surging through your body at the sight of her alive quickly died out. She wore a leather apron stained with blood, both fresh and old, and her hands were gloved. You quickly stood and began to back away from her, your sense of self preservation suddenly kicking in, your eyes zeroing in on the meat cleaver she held in her left hand.
“Sweetheart, calm down.” She whispered softly, carefully setting the blade down on the counter beside the gorey mess.
Your eyes were darting everywhere but her, panicked breaths leaving your parted lips. Your gaze finally settled in the corner of the room where a pile of clothing sat and a familiar axe. The lumberjack, she had murdered the lumberjack.
“Why?” You cried, trembling as if you had been drenched to the bone. “Why did you do it?!”
“I had too sweetie, I have to feed them.”
“Them? Who?” You asked, backing out of the kitchen as she followed your trail, her face soft with sympathy despite the flecks of blood that decorated her cheeks.
“The wolves, of course. I made a deal with them long ago, if I fed them in the winter I could stay here.” She replied, her voice alarmingly calm. “The lumberjack was a sweet man but this winter was a rough one, not many travelers I’m afraid.”
“You’ve gone mad.” You whispered.
“I know this is a lot to take in, but it’s best if you listen to me darling. Your grandfather was one of them, he courted me and then we had your father and your uncles. It’s always tricky with litters, you never know who is going to take after who. Your father though, he was the most human out of all of them. Poor thing couldn’t even shift.” She sighed, her eyes glazing over.
“You need help, you’re not well.” You tried again, doing your best to keep distance between the two of you.
“I know you’re a bit shaken up, but you need to listen to me, it’s in your best interest.” She sighed, untying the leather apron from around her waist.
“That cloak you’re wearing, it’s a symbol that you’ve come of age and Namjoon has had every intention of courting you. He’s been rather obvious really, he’s becoming quite frustrated with you.”
You suddenly became still, your mind flashing through every time Namjoon had ever touched the very item you were wearing. What she was saying, although deluded, had some semblance of truth.
“I-I have to go.” You mumbled, your throat tightening from the copper scent and smell of flesh that hung heavily in the air. You needed to get home and far away from her before she killed you too.
A deep sadness spread over her features as her head hung low, shaking from side to side. “Don’t run,” She breathed, “They find the chase seductive.”
All this time you had been slowly backing away from the person you loved the most, and now you had been stopped by the feeling of a solid form behind you. You quickly spun around, a shriek of horror escaping you as you met the bright, gold eyes of your escort, Namjoon.
And, without thinking, you ran.
Your cloak was fluttering behind you rapidly in the harsh, cold winds, the snow coming down thicker than it ever had before. And, to your absolute horror, a loud howl was echoing throughout the trees.
You peered over your shoulder as you sprinted to the best of your ability through the snow drifts. The wolf that had sat outside your window days before had returned and was chasing you down. Now that there was nothing separating you from the creature you were terrified, it was massive and hunting you down. It had the clear advantage, you were inevitably going to die. You were never going home again, another child was going to be ripped from their mother.
Tears were pouring down your cheeks like waterfalls as you blindly ran, unsure as to where you were going. You knew that you didn’t have time, four legs were faster than two and you were greatly impaired by the weather.
With no goal in mind, no destination in sight, you ran in hopes you would be able to live for a little longer. You did your best to weave between the trees, slide down hills of snow, and keep running for your life. Your lungs burned and your legs ached but still you ran, even as you heard the loud steps of the wolf coming nearer and nearer.
And, just as you had lost all hope, an outcropping of rocks became visible at the base of a snowy hill. And with every intention to save your life, you recklessly threw yourself down the hill allowing gravity to take over for you.
The second you felt yourself cease rolling, you rose to your unsteady legs and dizzily stumbled into the cluster of rocks, pulling yourself into the shelter away from the blizzard.
But your hope was fleeting as you came to a realization. The shelter was a den, one that had clearly been in use. It was littered with furs, blankets, books, and materials for a fire. The creature had been corralling you to this very location.
You turned as another burst of adrenaline shot through your body only to be stunted by the sight of the silver wolf blocking the exit to the den.
It’s bright eyes stared back at you with a gleam of satisfaction as it crouched down, shimming it’s way into the den and backing you up further into its depths.
You watched, horrified, as the wolf began to whimper, it’s body shaking violently as the sound of bones beginning to snap and crunch echoed throughout the space, reforming and distorting themselves into vaguely familiar shapes as it’s fur began to melt away.
Those bright golden eyes faded to a recognizable honey shade, and the silver fur disappeared and showed itself as ashen hair. On the floor of the den sat Namjoon in the place of where the powerful wolf had once stood.
He carefully rolled his head from side to side, his neck cracking loudly in response as he rose to his feet. A mischievous smirk pulled at his lips, a triumphant gleam to his eyes as he confidently approached your trembling form.
A broken cry escaped from your throat as you felt him press his forehead to your own, lightly nuzzling his head against yours. His strange behavior now made sense, he had been courting you in a way that was unfamiliar to you, but natural to him.
All of the people that had gone missing were male’s your age, he had been wiping out the competition.
And the bloody organ he had left outside of your window, had been a horrific present. A show of his dominance and his twisted affection.
You were crying uncontrollably now, everything you had experienced suddenly crashing down on you. You flinched in terror as you felt his fingers grip your jaw, his lips just brushing against your own and he hummed happily.
“You have nowhere left to run, little red.”
Can I have hugs and maybe noms I'm really touch starved- anxious anon
Same anon. I almost cried the other day because my cat cuddled with me. Anyway….here’s a unedited really soft touch starved fic for ya. I’m surprised I haven’t written something like this before.
Finally safe
(Warnings: safe vore, talk of past trauma)
———————————————————————
Ranboo sighed as he huddled up in his bed in the walls. The weather was getting cold again. And even with all the extra blankets he had now, it was still too cold. He shivered wrapping the blankets around himself.
Ranboo wanted to be warm. And he knew he could ask Tubbo for help. But he already asked for so much, he didn’t want to be a burden. He had always been a burden to others. The other borrowers he had been raised with had made that clear. He was born differently, with half black and half white hair. Along with odd black spots on his skin. He was different and that was bad.
He frowned remembering all the harsh words and nights spent alone as a kid. After his parents had their accident, he was left to fend for himself. Never getting the hugs or affection he wanted so bad. He had gone this long without any, he didn’t need them. Once he was claimed to be old enough he was kicked out of the colony. He found a good home, but was then found by a cat. He moved again and found Tubbo’s home.
He was injured from his run in with the cat and passed out in the middle of Tubbo’s floor. He was lucky Tubbo didn’t step on him. He was definitely surprised to wake up, let alone wake up to a young goat hybrid hovering over him looking worried. He was scared but soon learned to trust Tubbo. Even after Tubbo scared him really bad that one time Tubbo’s dad almost found him….. that had definitely not been fun.
Ranboo did his best to be well behaved and and always laugh and joke around with Tubbo. He didn’t want him to regret helping him if he realized how broken Ranboo was.
Ranboo gave up trying to get warm sitting in his bed. He wrapped a blanket around himself and walked down the chilly, dark and dusty path to Tubbo’s room. If anything he could distract himself from the cold by talking to Tubbo.
He stumbled out of the small exit he had carved out underneath the bed in Tubbo’s room. He could already feel it was warmer. He walked out from underneath the bed looking for Tubbo.
“Tubbo?” He called out to the hybrid.
Tubbo’s was working on home work at his desk when he heard his name be called. He smiled recognizing the voice. Ranboo. He turned around to look down at the ground to his his little friend wrapped in a blanket.
“Hey, what’s up?” He smiled happily. He wanted to scoop up the borrower, but ranboo had said he doesn’t like being touched. But Tubbo thought otherwise with how Ranboo leaned into him anytime he did pick up the borrower.
“Not a lot.” Ranboo said walking closer.
“I’m just doing homework if you want to sit on the desk while I work?” He asked.
“Yeah. That works.” Ranboo nodded.
“Want a ride?” Tubbo hesitantly offered his hand to Ranboo.
Ranboo was going to say no but, he could feel the warmth comes off his hand. Maybe he could get a ride just this once. “Ok.” He nodded stepping onto Tubbo’s hand.
Tubbo was pleasantly surprised when ranboo stepped into his hand. He couldn’t help but notice how chilly Ranboo was though. He picked up and set back in this chair. He didn’t want to set down Ranboo with how cold he was.
“Umm… Tubbo?” Ranboo asked when he wasn’t set down like he thought he would be.
“Why are you so cold?” Tubbo asked getting to the point.
“W-what?” Ranboo stuttered. He shook his head. “No, I’m not cold.” He tried to hide his shivers.
“I can feel how cold you are. And you’re shivering….” Tubbo frowned.
“I- I guess it’s a little chilly…” Ranboo shrugged trying to play it off. “You don’t have to worry about me though.” He smiled.
“But I am worried, why wouldn’t I be worried about you?” Tubbo questioned.
“Because…..” Ranboo trailed off. They where friends why shouldn’t Tubbo worry? Is that what friends where supposed to do?
Tubbo frowned softly. “You ok boss man?” He asked gently bringing him closer to be held.
“I- I don’t know…. You shouldn’t have to worry about me. I probably already take up to much for your time…”
“Take up my time?” Tubbo shook his head. “No, that’s-” he shook his head. Is that really how Ranboo feels? “You could never take up my time Boo, I love spending time with you.”
Ranboo paused looking up at Tubbo. “Really? I’m annoying and useless though…” He mumbled.
“What?! Who told you that?” Tubbo curled up his fingers at the idea of someone saying such hurtful and untrue things to his friend.
“My colony, the other borrowers I lived with. I was different and I couldn’t borrow the right way…. So I was useless.” He said like it was a fact.
“You are not useless Ranboo….” He said sadly gently using a finger to pet Ranboo’s head. “And whatever else those people said to you, it isn’t true.”
Ranboo crumbled as Tubbo put a finger on his head. The soft pressure and warmth made him melt. He looked down at his hands realizing Tubbo really and truly cared about him. That fact made him start sobbing. But for once, it was happy tears.
Tubbo panicked as Ranboo began to cry. Had he hurt him?! “Boo?” He softly asked holding him closer to his face. He jumped a little as Ranboo latched onto his face giving him a hug. He gladly cupped his hands over his back hugging him back. He used his thumb to rub Ranboo’s back as he sobbed.
“It’s ok, I got you now. Your ok.” He mumbled softly trying to comfort his smaller friend.
Ranboo hugged Tubbo tight. He had needed this so bad. A hug, someone to talk to, and a real friend. He slowly calmed down. He pulled away from Tubbo. “S-sorry…” He mumbled.
“You don’t have to apologize.” Tubbo said.
“Oh….” Ranboo blinked looking at Tubbo. He almost said sorry again.
“It’s ok.” He smiled still holding Ranboo close.
Ranboo sighed leaning back in Tubbo hand. He let himself curl up enjoying the warmth.
“You are still cold though.” He curled his fingers around Ranboo.
“Better then before.” He replied.
“I still need to get you warmer Boo.” He shook his head. He hummed thinking of a easy way to keep him warm.
Ranboo didn’t want to be alone right now. And he just wanted comfort and warmth from Tubbo. He frowned getting a idea. Would Tubbo even be ok with that?
“You got a idea?” Tubbo asked seeing the look on Ranboo’s face.
“Kinda? I don’t know if it’s a good one though.” He shrugged.
“Well, what is it?” Tubbo asked.
“Um… you remember how you hide me from your dad that one time?” He said hoping Tubbo would catch on.
Tubbo froze realizing what Ranboo was suggesting. “Are you sure about that? You where so scared before.”
“I was scared because you just ate me. But now I know it’s safe and I trust you.” He smiled softly.
“Aw, you trust me that much?” Tubbo grinned. He was glad Ranboo wasn’t scared of the idea anymore.
“I do.” He giggled. “Plus it’s warm and I’ll be able to rest while you work.”
“True…” Tubbo nodded. “So you really want to do this?”
“Yeah I do.” He said making his decision.
“Ok, just tell me if you want out at any point.” Tubbo said before carefully placing Ranboo in his mouth closing his teeth behind him with a click.
Being gentle placed in was definitely better then how he was shoved in before. He smiled feeling the warmth from Tubbo. He was so focused on the warmth he didn’t panic like he thought he would.
Tubbo gently licked over Ranboo feeling just how cold the little borrower had been. It was like sucking on a ice cube. He slowly tilted his head back and swallowed Ranboo.
Ranboo froze as gravity shifted and he slipped back into Tubbo’s throat. He struggled a little but forced himself to be still not wanting to hurt Tubbo. He soon slipped into Tubbo’s stomach. He went completely limp at the feeling. He was surrounded by soft muscle gently hugging him as he leaned back. It was a amazing feeling.
Tubbo sighed as he felt Ranboo slip into his stomach. He pressed a hand to where he was. “You ok?” He asked making sure Ranboo was alright.
“Yeah….I’m ok.” He replied. He was getting sleepy from being so cozy. He hadn’t been able to really feel what it was like in here before, he had passed out from his panic. But now he was calm and finally warm.
“Ok, just making sure. I’m going to keep working. Let me know when you want out.” He really hoped Ranboo would want to stay for a while. He liked having him so close and safe.
“Mmhmm…” He hummed snuggling against Tubbo more. He didn’t have to worry about anything in here. He could just sleep and not wake up worrying about bugs or the cold. He was safe. With that thought he finally was able to sleep.
Tubbo continued to do his homework and smiled softly feeling Ranboo get comfortable. His small weight got heavier as he fell asleep tucked away deep inside where he could keep his friend safe. Tubbo hoped they would do this more now.
for the one-shot
tired eyes , bucky
pairings: bucky barnes x reader, mentions of shuri warnings: mentions of cryo and death (but no actual descriptions) about: tired eyes a/n: i'm so sorry this took so long to post! i got so busy and i had a really bad day and didn't have any time to edit. i hope you enjoy this either way!
“...in other news, a baby penguin was born at the national zoo yesterday, and the subway goats that i told you about were captured, so that’s good for everyone really,” you laugh, skimming through the rest of the words printed on the newspaper you’re holding. the fingers holding it begin to rub at the edges subconsciously, pressing indents into the typed letters while you flip the page once you’re satisfied that the contents of that one were already summarized. “okay, these are comics and crosswords, so i’ll wait for you on these,” you say, eyes catching on the colored squares, chuckling at the images of snoopy. “i think you’ll like snoopy. you probably haven’t gotten to read much on him since he was created in the fifties, so i’ll save all the snoopy bits for you if you’d like.”
no answer, which you were expecting, but the longing for his voice grows either way, exhaling softly and closing the newspaper you were reading from, bold letters forming the date. you look at the books piled next to your chair, reminding yourself to replace the ones you’ve already read. “so, shuri says she’s close to figuring this out. she thinks you’ll be out of cryo this month, so that’s exciting!”
your smile struggles to stay as a thick silence falls on you and you swallow, looking down at your lap, “um, i-” you clear your throat, forcing your eyes to meet the frozen man. “i don’t know if you can even hear me,” you admit, a small watery laugh falling from your lips. “i can’t really bring myself to ask shuri, because i really hope you can and i don’t know how i’ll do if i find out you can’t. i hope you know how much i love you, and-” you sniffle, squeezing your eyes shut, “and how much i miss you. and how much i know you’ll be okay.”
you smile tearfully, wiping away tears that escape your eyes, watching them soak your sleeve. you run your finger over the fabric, bringing it up to your nose and shutting your eyes shut when you realize the red henley doesn’t smell like bucky anymore. although the rational part of your mind reminds you it's been two years and you’ve been wearing the piece of clothing for most of it. the rest of his clothes also lack his smell, worn so much by you that your perfume seems embedded with the cotton.
“you know how much i miss your eyes?” you ask suddenly, the image of them engraved in the caves of your happiest memories. “you have such pretty eyes- i know i tell you that a lot, but it’s true.” echoes of the azure colors lucky enough to reside in bucky’s irises flood the darkness of your closed eyelids. “they were the first thing i noticed when i met you,” you sniffle, “so blue. it looked like they were glowing in the sun. i completely forgot about the plums i accidentally stole from you.”
“do you remember that?” you question, opening your eyes to see the same image from last time. “i just gave you the plums and stuttered like an idiot. then, when i tried to leave because i was so mortified, you stopped me. i got a really good look at you that time. so handsome,” you pause. “but so tired.”
his image is vivid in your mind, clear enough to combat the actual photographs of him that lay everywhere in your apartment. “you looked so tired, bucky,” you admit, “and i didn’t even know what happened yet- what you had gone through- and all i wanted to do from that point was kiss all that pain away. let you rest until the exhaustion wasn’t clouding the color of your eyes.” your fingers twitch, itching to tangle with his own- desperate to hold him after so long.
physical touch was something bucky struggled with when you both met. his skin was unused to gentle touches, always expecting the worst when your fingertips came in contact with any of him; you showed him gentle touches, tender fingers dragging on his jaw in the morning, careful kisses pressed to his nose to wake him up.
“let me do that when you’re out of there, yeah?” you request, playing with your hands to distract from their want to hold his. “you deserve to just... be, bucky. you deserve to be happy, and i swear i’ll make sure it’s the only thing you’ll ever feel again.” you go silent, picking apart your tangled thoughts and attempting to make sentences of them.
“y/n.”
it takes you a while to notice the voice, its echo reaching you, prying your attention away from bucky. “shuri,” you realize, mouth moving faster than your brain as it falls behind to realize what exactly shuri might be doing here. “it’s ready- he can come out today.”
your eyebrows furrow, the words foggy as your brain decides to take them in late, examining them for their meaning too many seconds after silence has been hanging in the air, waiting for you to break its delicate thread. “what?” you finally say after a moment, not looking for an answer while you jump from your seat, ignoring the items you’d handpicked as they fall to the floor, clatters ignored while you bounce to shuri, “really? he can- it’s really ready?”
shuri nods, beaming smile as the reaction she was hoping for bounds out of you, albeit a bit later than she’d expected. you’ve turned, eyes on bucky now as your anticipation grows, arms motioning towards him gently, “well, then… please- please,” you beg, unable to finish the plead that shuri already knows.
-
your fingernails are in between your teeth from the waiting- a nasty habit bucky had helped you break thanks to his wrapped hands around yours- foot tapping incessantly on the floor beneath you. you have absolute trust in shuri and wakanda’s technology, but the worry grows when you stare at the chamber bucky was once in, bright cerulean of his eyes hidden from yours.
every cell of your body is screaming for him, and it might be embarrassing how much you miss him if it were a different situation, a different man with different eyes.
ayo is with him, observing him while the wretched words are said, and every passing second makes your fear grow worse- that he would go back into cryo, that he wouldn’t ever touch you again, too afraid he’d hurt you with the same stained hands with which he’d hurt others.
you shut your eyes again and took a deep breath, feeling your lungs expand and focusing on that.
“y/n,” he interrupts, the cracked word bringing the air you had been missing for so long, eyes opening as quickly as they could and a sob falling from your throat when you stand. “bucky,” you snivel, foot already stepping closer to him before you can instruct it to. you pause for a second to make sure bucky is okay with it, against the will of every voice in your mind and muscle in your body. the man nods, stepping towards you instead and immediately warming you with his embrace. you reciprocate immediately, winding your arms around him while his flesh arm pulls you as close as he can.
“bucky,” you weep, pushing your face into the crook of his neck and crying harder when your nose touches his warm skin and the soft strands of his hair. bucky only pulls away for a moment to look at you, gentle thumb brushing away your tears. you cradle his face in your hand, scanning every feature continuously until you reach his eyes and your breath catches at the brilliant color, realizing the dark sheen of exhaustion was gone, his tired eyes were no longer as tired, offering solid possibility that at some point, they wouldn’t be at all.
Ok so here’s a mcyt G/t idea! a character (maybe Wilbur) either on purpose or unconsciously putting their tiny friend in their inventory (game mechanics wooo!) …small drabble mayhaps 👉👈
I love this so much!!!! :D
Thank you for this prompt, it was really fun to write!
_____
Hide 'n Sleep
_____
Wilbur tiptoed around the house, trying and failing to keep the smirk off his face. He'd woken up to hear his family and friends chattering in another room. He tended to sleep longer in the winter, although he didn't hibernate like some other giants did. When he heard Tommy complaining about the cold, he had a devious idea.
He snuck towards the living room, making as little noise as someone his size could. When he peeked around the corner, glancing into the room that was raised to about his chest level, he put a finger to his lips. Luckily only Phil and Niki were turned in his direction, and though their lips quirked in amusement, they remained silent.
He saw Techno's ear twitch and thought his brother might know he was there. But that was fine; his target was a different little brother.
Tommy was in the middle of a story. He hadn't caught the beginning, but it was something about Tubbo and a ridiculous number of flowers. Mid-laugh, Wilbur struck. He darted out his hands, scooping his little brother off his feet, and the laugh changed to a scream.
Tubbo and Ranboo both jumped, just now realizing he was there, but the others laughed.
"Hi, Toms," Wilbur said, amusement lacing his voice.
"Wil, don't you dare," Tommy started, but Wilbur was already opening his inventory. He dropped his little brother inside, giggling at Tommy's protests.
"You dickhead, you put me in a cold one!" Tommy whined. Wilbur felt him crawling over the walls to one of the slots that was stocked with blankets. He turned his focus to the rest of his family and his friends. There was a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Who's next?" he purred. He noticed Niki had already slipped away; she'd probably gone to hide somewhere as he was putting Tommy away. Phil laughed once, then jumped off the platform the living room was on, spreading his wings and soaring away. He'd be a pain in the ass to catch.
Wilbur's gaze slipped to the two teenagers. Tubbo let out a noise that was a half scream half laugh, launching himself onto Ranboo.
"Go, go, go!" He shrieked, clinging onto the taller teen. The ender hybrid was giggling, but managed to teleport them both away. Wilbur snorted and his gaze fell on the last person in the room. Techno looked back at him with an unimpressed expression.
"Technoblade~" Wilbur sang teasingly. "Are you gonna be the second person caught?"
"I've been betrayed," Techno deadpanned, making no move to run. "I'll accept my terrible fate."
"Come on," Wilbur whined. "You're not gonna play along?"
"Don't judge me, I'm cold," Techno said. Wilbur huffed and picked up his other brother.
"You know, running warms you up," Wilbur pointed out. Techno shrugs.
"So do brothers with magical pocket dimensions," Techno said. Wilbur rolled his eyes and dropped Techno into the same slot as Tommy had claimed. He smiled at their light bickering as he started his search for the rest of the tinies.
If Niki didn't want to be found, he wouldn't find her. She would probably be impossible to catch until she was one of the last left, so Wilbur didn't bother trying to look for her. Normally he'd go after Tubbo first, but if he was teaming up with Ranboo, Wilbur would likely have to wait until the ender hybrid tired out and couldn't teleport. That left Phil.
If Phil was flying around, he was just as hard to catch as Ranboo's teleportation. But Wilbur had a feeling he'd hidden this time. While Phil was a decent hider, he would often laugh and give himself away. Wilbur walked slowly around the house, keeping his eyes and ears peeled for any clues.
He heard a small wheeze of laughter, and his head turned to one of the cabinets sized for him. He grinned and opened the door, finding Phil crouched. To his surprise, his dad instantly launched upwards. He'd been waiting!
Wilbur automatically reached out to grab Phil. He didn't expect to actually catch him, but Phil was apparently going easy on him. He relaxed in Wilbur's grip giving a quick "hi, mate," before Wil slipped him into his inventory.
He began circling the house, keeping his eyes out for movement. Of course Ranboo and Tubbo could be hiding, but he doubted they would if they were teleporting around. It was much more fun to do one or the other.
He passed by an open area, only half paying attention, when he heard a small vroop. He snapped to attention, looking for the source of the sound. There were a few purple particles floating on the desk to his left. He must have just walked by them.
He started scanning the area, knowing Ranboo could only go so far. There was another, very faint noise, and he pretended not to hear. His friends always forgot how good his hearing was. He made his way closer, careful not to even look at the place he'd heard the ender hybrid. Then, when he was in arms reach, he lunged.
His hands closed around Ranboo, who yelped. He teleported away instinctually, coming back a moment later since that counted as a Wilbur win.
"What? Where's Tubbo?" Wilbur asked, holding the lone teen in his cupped hands. Ranboo shrugged, but there was mischief in his eyes. Wilbur was about to put him in his inventory, when he heard a small yell, and something hit his head. He froze, shocked, as he felt Tubbo crawling around on his head.
"Run, Boo! This is a rescue mission!" Tubbo cried, and suddenly Ranboo was gone again, leaving little purple particles in Wilbur's hands. The giant reached up and plucked Tubbo out of his hair.
"You little shits!" He said fondly as Tubbo cackled. The goat hybrid flipped him off as he was dropped into an empty inventory slot. Wilbur felt him crawling around, probably looking for Tommy's slot.
He focused on catching Ranboo, who was still in view, but out of reach. He narrowed his eyes; the teen looked way too smug. Wilbur walked forward, and just as he thought, the second he got in arms reach Ranboo teleported just out of reach.
Ranboo led him on a chase through the whole house, never teleporting completely out of sight. Wilbur got very close to catching him before he teleported a couple of times, but it wasn't until Ranboo sat down on the bookshelf he'd teleported to, yawning, that Wilbur caught him.
Wilbur gently scooped him up, and Ranboo flopped over in his hands.
"Did you tire yourself out?" Wilbur asked with a grin. Ranboo nodded sleepily, and the giant snorted. He'd lasted longer than he normally did; that had been a couple dozen teleports. He slipped Ranboo into one of the blanket padded slots, and the ended hybrid instantly fell asleep.
That just left Niki. Right on time, he heard the tiny thunk of something being knocked over. Wilbur would never find Niki if not for her little hints. Like the rest of his friends and family, she went easy on him, always intending to let him catch her in the end.
He walked to the source of the noise, calling his friend's name in a sing-song voice. Niki giggled, but unlike with Phil, Wilbur couldn't pinpoint her location from the sound.
He started opening cabinets and drawers, looking behind items to see if he could spot her. Finally, a small motion drew him to a specific drawer and he opened it. He frowned as he looked inside, still not seeing Niki. Had it been a diversion?
"You don't see me, Wilbur?" His friend teased, and he jumped, suddenly seeing where Niki had been. She'd slipped behind a tape dispenser, and Wilbur had somehow completely missed seeing her.
"I do now," he laughed, holding out a hand. She nimbly hopped on, and he slipped her into his inventory.
Wilbur couldn't help but purr happily at the feeling of all of the people he cared about safely tucked away into his inventory slots. Nothing could hurt them there; he loved protecting his family. Niki, Tubbo and Ranboo weren't technically related to him, but they were as good as family to him.
The cold caught up to Wilbur, and he yawned.
Niki and Phil were in one slot, idly chatting. Tommy and Tubbo had curled up together, and were cuddled against Techno, who was probably pretending he hated it. Ranboo was fast asleep in his own slot, nestled in blankets.
And Wilbur slipped back into bed, eyes drooping. Content from the feeling of the people he loved so close, he drifted back to sleep.
Ever just wanted to move a straight up cow? Then boy do I have the man for you!!
Honestly, because Alex trains so much he has the stamina and strength of a bull. He will help you move anything you need him to for as long as you need him too. Hay bales? He’s got it. You need help hoeing, planting seeds, and watering? Literally no problem. Because he hasn’t been so big on book learning- he loves learning through his physical strength. He loves when you teach him the basics of crop growing and how to properly take care of animals, and once you teach him- you can just let him run wild. He’ll then realize how physically stressing your job is and will soon put ‘working on the farm’ as part of his regiment. (Plus seeing him chop down trees shirtless isn’t such a bad sight, heh heh.)
You soon realize that he just loves all the cows. He moo’s back to tease them almost all the time, but genuinely enjoys feeding them and giving them pats on the head. His favorite way of showing off to you is going, “Hey, honey!” when you turn around, you’re always surprised to see him just holding a calf in his arms. His beaming smile makes your heart flutter.
Alex is always willingly to help you out on the farm in any way he can- sometimes you don’t know if it’s because he loves you or it’s because he thinks of it as training. With time though, you see that it’s actually both. He loves when you ask him for help because he enjoys knowing that you depend on him too and showing off his muscles in some way just makes him smile. He loves making you laugh, so while you take care of the chickens- he likes to make funny voices for the cows.
His constant help on the farm and his drive to make you laugh, has you loving him even more.
Sam
Sam doesn’t know a whole lot about farming, but he absolutely loves working with the animals. I’d imagine goats would be his favorite because they’re just so weird. I mean, he’s fascinated by the fact that they just want to eat everything in sight- soley because they can and that they don’t know any better.
Another reason Sam loves working with the animals is that once he realizes they’re safe and relatively easy to handle- he brings Vincent along to show him how to pet and take care of the animals. Sometimes you’ll see Penny, Vincent, and Jas on a field trip to the farm so that Sam can actually be a guide to them (of course Jas also gets the opportunity of showing off what she knows since she lives on a farm herself.)
There is nothing more wholesome than seeing Sam’s goofy smile when working with the kids. He loves feeling like he’s a part of the children’s lives and enjoys teaching them lifelong lessons.
Although… Seeing him fighting the goats as they try and eat his shirt is one of the funniest parts of your day. You can’t help but laugh as you watch him tell the goats to, “F*CK OFF!” (only sometimes do you actually help him.)
Sebastian
Sebastian wasn’t to keen on helping you out on the farm when you first asked for his help. “I’ll just screw things up.” He kept saying to you, but one day, as a present you give him a pure black egg with freckles on it. You tell him that it’s a very special looking chicken that’s hard to obtain, but that when it grows up it’s black. Oh man. When you told him this, he was ALL about this chicken. He placed the egg in the incubator and every single day- he would check up on it until it hatched.
The chicken and him were absolutely inseparable. You’d find him talking to himself all throughout the day until you find out that he puts the little chick in his sweatshirt pocket and literally carries it around everywhere with him. He shows off his little chick to everyone he knows- what made the chicken and him even closer was that people were just as weirded out by the chicken as they were of Sebastian. “I want to call my chicken, Midnight” He explains one day, “I actually feel like Midnight understands me as much as you do.”
Sure, Sebastian wasn’t great help with any of the other tasks on the farm, but the fact that he gives you the biggest, goofiest looking smile whenever he holds Midnight- it makes it all worth it. You’re happy that you could give Sebastian something to look forward to each and every day. It’s not long until you have a pet bed in your own house- just for Midnight, but you can’t complain. Seeing Sebastian smile as often as he had been was enough for you.
Harvey
The physical work was not Harvey’s specialty. After trying to assign him different tasks- you figured that you should let Harvey do what he wanted to do. After all, you married the goofball because you enjoyed his independent and nurturing side. (Getting patched up or given a deep tissue massage after a long day was wonderful.)
It wasn’t until you saw him grumbling over some paperwork that you asked him what he was doing, “I know I don’t have the endurance and strength to help you out on the farm, but I wanted to help you out at least in some way.” When he hands you the papers- you find out that he had been tallying every single expense made on the farm. In short, he decided he wanted to handle all of the farms finances whilst also checking crop prices each season and dating them back through the years to see what crops made the most money. “Grow potatoes in Spring, blueberries in Summer, and cranberries in the Fall.” He started, “As you can see here-“ and that’s where you lost him. Going through all the numbers made your head spin, but the fact that he did this all on his own and that he wanted to do it gave you so much relief. After a flurry of kisses- he was happy to know that he was doing a good thing.
Although you also find that when you patch up the Greenhouse- he gets excited. You find out that the expansive farm was just overwhelming to him and he didn’t want to get sunburned or heat exhaustion (which happened to you often.) You give him the territory of the Greenhouse and tell him, “Just work on it on the days you want too. You’re not required to do anything.”
You soon find it extremely touching though when he routinely presents you with flowers that he grew himself. He explains that he only wanted the Greenhouse to gift you flowers all year long.
Elliot
Elliot finds the farm relaxing and fascinating. Having only lived on the beach- the farm was an entirely new territory that he got to explore. Every day, you’d find breakfast on the table with a note on it. You understood the general theme within each note being about ‘beauty’. He’d ask you the same question every day once you finished reading it, “Do you understand it yet?” What does he mean by ‘yet’, you wonder? Sheepishly you finally understood what every single note meant, and he was writing about you the whole time. When tiny snowflakes covered your hair in the Winter when you came in in the evening to how the sunlight glistened on your skin in the Summer. You finally get that his real fascination was watching and admiring you while you worked.
That’s not to say that he didn’t help you sometimes. Working on the farm humbled him greatly and inspired him to continuously write every single day. Before you knew it- he had multiple books published that became successful, all because he had you and your farm as inspiration.
His biggest physical help on the farm was taking care of the plants that grew each of the three seasons. He loved working on the farm with you because his enjoyment was discovering the new leaves that grew over night- or that a flower would bud on the potatoes. He was routinely in awe at the new discoveries in plant life that he couldn’t give it up. You would give him a section of the farm to take care of- only come to find out that when you finished your section, he was too distracted by about the third plant that you would have to finish it for him. He would always profusely apologize about it, but you found it touching that even something as simple as a plant was just so exciting to him.
Sometimes he looked like a little kid- mouth agape and eyes sparkling when he’d see a plant, he personally took care of growing bigger and bigger. As a gift, you gave him planters so he could better watch the plant life grow. His big, sweet smiles stick in your mind, making you smile too. He was just too cute.
Shane
You expected him to basically fight you over the chicken coop. But with everything that Shane had been through- you didn’t want to stand in the way of what made him happy. He complained about his body a lot, but you will never see this man run harder just to tell you that a new chick hatched overnight. You’d find yourself just watching him as he would chase the chickens around the pen only to then get swarmed by them- knocking him in on his ass every time. You would just laugh amongst all the bawking as he’d try to free himself. Now, he never hurt a chicken, and they’ve never hurt him- they just swarm him because they want too. It’s like one minute you’re watering your crops, just to turn and hear him scream as a mass of feathers cover him. You’d wash his clothes and routinely find feathers stuck in his pockets- you decided to collect them. One day you’ll make fun of him for it or cover the entire side of his bed with them. The feather prank was all in your hands.
Now, you thought he just had an affection for the birds until you get him to talk about them. Shane knows EVERYTHING about chickens- when’s the best time to feed them, what to feed them, how much to feed them, how to take care of their feathers, how to handle an egg-bound chicken, how to care for newly hatched chicks- this man knew everything. It wasn’t long until he knew the exact spot each chicken loved to be scratched at.  He’d explain that every chicken had a different spot that they loved being petted at- it was mind boggling.
Now Jas knew a whole lot about farming, but Shane would consistently bring her to the farm. She loved it too! Jas got to see Shane genuinely happy all the time and it brought her a lot of comfort to see him mess with the chickens (and the chickens mess with him back.) She was so happy to know that Shane was content and satisfied with his life now- instead of lonely and depressed. He expressed joy, and even to Jas- Shane was teaching her new things about chickens every time she came over. She’s smart, but there were things that he shows her that blows her mind.
Through it all- you knew Shane wouldn’t be big on helping out on the farm, but you knew if you could get him in the chicken coop, it would make him undeniably happy. That was enough for you- you didn’t marry him to make him work on the farm- you married him because of his goof ball smile and nerdy talk about chickens and it made you so so happy.
It also helped that he could take a joke and that you two could tease each other- filling his side of the bed with feathers cracked you up at the twisted face he gave. He was happy, and that made you happy.
Content note for discussions of eternal damnation, and all sorts of other shit that will trigger a lot of folks with religious trauma.
Before I get started I might as well explain where I’m coming from - unlike a lot of She-Ra fans, and a lot of queer people, I don’t have much religious trauma, or any, maybe (okay there were a number of years I was convinced I was going to hell, but that happens to everyone, right?). I was raised a liberal Christian by liberal Christian parents in the Episcopal Church, where most of my memories are overwhelmingly positive. Fuck, growing up in the 90’s, Chuch was probably the only place outside my home I didn’t have homophobia spewed at me. Because it was the 90’s and it was a fucking hellscape of bigotry where 5 year olds knew enough to taunt each other with homophobic slurs and the adults didn’t know enough to realize how fucked up that was. Anyway. This is my experience, but it is an atypical one, and I know it. Quite frankly I know that my experience of Christianity has very little at all to do with what most people experienced, or what people generally mean when they talk about Christianity as a cultural force in America today. So if you were raised Christian and you don’t recognize your theology here, congrats, neither do I, but these ideas and cultural forces are huge and powerful and dominant. And it’s this dominant Christian narrative that I’m referring to in this post. As well as, you know, a children’s cartoon about lesbian rainbow princesses. So here it goes. This is going to get batshit.
"All events whatsoever are governed by the secret counsel of God." - John Calvin
“We’re all just a bunch of wooly guys” - Noelle Stevenson
This is a post triggered by a single scene, and a single line. It’s one of the most fucked-up scenes in She-Ra, toward the end of Save the Cat. Catra, turned into a puppet by Prime, struggles with her chip, desperately trying to gain control of herself, so lost and scared and vulnerable that she flings aside her own death wish and her pride and tearfully begs Adora to rescue her. Adora reaches out , about to grab her, and then Prime takes control back, pronounces ‘disappointing’ and activates the kill switch that pitches Catra off the platform and to her death (and seriously, she dies here, guys - also Adora breaks both her legs in the fall). But before he does, he dismisses Catra with one of his most chilling lines. “Some creatures are meant only for destruction.”
And that’s when everyone watching probably had their heart broken a little bit, but some of the viewers raised in or around Christianity watching the same scene probably whispered ‘holy shit’ to themselves. Because Prime’s line - which works as a chilling and callous dismissal of Catra - is also an allusion to a passage from the Bible. In fact, it’s from one of the most fucked up passages in a book with more than its share of fucked up passages. It’s from Romans 9:22, and I’m going to quote several previous verses to give the context of the passage (if not the entire Epistle, which is more about who needs to abide by Jewish dietary restrictions but was used to construct a systematic theology in the centuries afterwards because people decided it was Eternal Truth).
19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
The context of the allusion supports the context in the show. Prime is dismissing Catra - serial betrayer, liar, failed conqueror, former bloody-handed warlord - as worthless, as having always been worthless and fit only to be destroyed. He is speaking from a divine and authoritative perspective (because he really does think he’s God, more of this in my TL/DR Horde Prime thing). Prime is echoing not only his own haughty dismissal of Catra, and Shadow Weaver’s view of her, but also perhaps the viewer’s harshest assessment of her, and her own worst fears about herself. Catra was bad from the start, doomed to destroy and to be destroyed. A malformed pot, cracked in firing, destined to be shattered against a wall and have her shards classified by some future archaeologist 2,000 years later. And all that’s bad enough.
But the full historical and theological context of this passage shows the real depth of Noelle Stevenson’s passion and thought and care when writing this show. Noelle was raised in Evangelical or Fundamentalist Christianity. To my knowledge, he has never specified what sect or denomination, but in interviews and her memoir Noelle has shown a particular concern for questions that this passage raises, and a particular loathing for the strains of Protestant theology that take this passage and run with it - that is to say, Calvinism. So while I’m not sure if Noelle was raised as a conservative, Calvinist Presbyterian, his preoccupation with these questions mean that it’s time to talk about Calvinism.
It would be unfair, perhaps, to say that Calvinism is a systematic theology built entirely upon the Epistles of Romans and Galatians, but only -just- (and here my Catholic readers in particular will chuckle to themselves and lovingly stroke their favorite passage of the Epistle of James). The core of Calvinist Doctrine is often expressed by the very Dutch acronym TULIP:
Total Depravity - people are wholly evil, and incapable of good action or even willing good thoughts or deeds
Unconditional Election - God chooses some people to save because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, not because they did anything to deserve, trigger or accept it
Limited Atonement - Jesus died only to save the people God chose to save, not the rest of us bastards
Irresistible Grace - God chooses some people to be saved - if you didn’t want to be saved, too bad, God said so.
Perseverance of the Saints - People often forget this one and assume it’s ‘predestination’ but it’s actually this - basically, once saved by God, always saved, and if it looks like someone falls out of grace, they were never saved to begin with. Well that’s all sealed up tight I guess.
Reading through these, predestination isn’t a single doctrine in Calvinism but the entire theological underpinnings of it together with humanity’s utter powerlessness before sin. Basically God has all agency, humanity has none. Calvinism (and a lot of early modern Protestantism) is obsessed with questions of how God saves people (grace alone, AKA Sola Fides) and who God saves (the people god elects and only the people God elects, and fuck everyone else).
It’s apparent that Noelle was really taken by these questions, and repelled by the answers he heard. He’s alluded to having a tattoo refuting the Gospel passage about Sheep and Goats being sorted at the end times, affirming instead that ‘we’re all just a bunch of wooly guys’ (you can see this goat tattoo in some of his self-portraits in comics, etc). He’s also mentioned that rejecting and subverting destiny is a huge part of everything he writes as a particular rejection of the idea that some individual people are 'chosen' by God or that God has a plan for any of us. You can see that -so clearly- in Adora’s arc, where Adora embraces and then rejects destiny time and again and finally learns to live life for herself.
But for Catra, we’re much more concerned about the most negative aspect of this - the idea that some people are vessels meant for destruction. And that’s something else that Noelle is preoccupied with. In her memoir in the section about leaving the church and becoming a humanistic atheist, there is a drawing of a pot and the question ‘Am I a vessel prepared for destruction?’ Obviously this was on Noelle’s mind (And this is before he came out to himself as queer!).
To look at how this question plays out in Catra’s entire arc, let’s first talk about how ideas of damnation and salvation actually play out in society. And for that I’m going to plug one of my favorite books, Gin Lun’s Damned Nation: Hell in America from the Revolution to Reconstruction (if you can tell by now, I am a fucking blast at parties). Lun tells the long and very interesting story about, how ideas of hell and who went there changed during the Early American Republic. One of the interesting developments that she talks about is how while at first people who were repelled by Calvinism started moving toward a doctrine of universal salvation (no on goes to hell, at least not forever*), eventually they decided that hell was fine as long as only the right kind of people went there. Mostly The Other - non-Christian foreigners, Catholics, Atheists, people who were sinners in ways that were not just bad but weird and violated Victorian ideas of respectability. Really, Hell became a way of othering people, and arguably that’s how it survives today, especially as a way to other queer people (but expanding this is slated for my Montero rant). Now while a lot of people were consciously rejecting Calvinist predestination, they were still drawing the distinction between the Elect (good, saved, worthwhile) and the everyone else (bad, damned, worthless). I would argue that secularized ideas of this survive to this day even among non-Christian spaces in our society - we like to draw lines between those who Elect, and those who aren’t.
And that’s what brings us back to Catra. Because Catra’s entire arc is a refutation of the idea that some people are worthless and irredeemable, either by nature, nurture or their own actions. Catra’s actions strain the conventions of who is sympathetic in a Kid’s cartoon - I’ve half joked that she’s Walter White as a cat girl, and it’s only half a joke. She’s cruel, self-deluded, she spends 4 seasons refusing to take responsibility for anything she does and until Season 5 she just about always chooses the thing that does the most damage to herself and others. As I mentioned in my Catra rant, the show goes out of its way to demonstrate that Catra is morally culpable in every step of her descent into evil (except maybe her break with reality just before she pulls the lever). The way that Catra personally betrays everyone around her, the way she strips herself of all of her better qualities and most of what makes her human, hell even her costume changes would signal in any other show that she’s irredeemable.
It’s tempting to see this as Noelle’s version of being edgy - pushing the boundaries of what a sympathetic character is, throwing out antiheroics in favor of just making the villain a protagonist. Noelle isn’t quite Alex ‘I am in the business of traumatizing children’ Hirsch, who seems to have viewed his job as pushing the bounds of what you could show on the Disney Channel (I saw Gravity Falls as an adult and a bunch of that shit lives rent free in my nightmares forever), but Noelle has his own dark side, mostly thematically. The show’s willingness to deal with abuse, and messed up religious themes, and volatile, passionate, not particularly healthy relationships feels pretty daring. I’m not joking when I gleefully recommend this show to friends as ‘a couple from a Mountain Goats Song fights for four seasons in a cartoon intended for 9 year olds’. Noelle is in his own way pushing the boundaries of what a kids show can do. If you read Noelle’s other works like Nimona, you see an argument for Noelle being at least a bit edgy. Nimona is also angry, gleefully destructive, violent and spiteful - not unlike Catra. Given that it was a 2010s webcomic and not a kids show, Nimona is a good deal worse than Catra in some ways - Catra doesn’t kill people on screen, while Nimona laughs about it (that was just like, a webcomic thing - one of the fan favorite characters in my personal favorite, Narbonic, was a fucking sociopath, and the heroes were all amoral mad scientists, except for the superintelligent gerbil**). But unlike Nimona, whose fate is left open ended, Catra is redeemed.
And that is weird. We’ve had redemption arcs, but generally not of characters with -so- much vile stuff in their history. Going back to the comparison between her and Azula, many other shows, like Avatar, would have made Catra a semi-sympathetic villain who has a sob-story in their origin but who is beyond redemption, and in so doing would articulate a kind of psychologized Calvinism where some people are too traumatized to ever be fully and truly human. I’d argue this is the problem with Azula as a character - she’s a fun villain, but she doesn’t have moral agency, and the ultimate message of her arc - that she’s a broken person destined only to hurt people - is actually pretty fucked up. And that’s the origin story of so many serial killers and psycopaths that populate so many TV shows and movies. Beyond ‘hurt people hurt people’ they have nothing to teach us except perhaps that trauma makes you a monster and that the only possible response to people doing bad things is to cut them out of your life and out of our society (and that’s why we have prisons, right?)
And so Catra’s redemption and the depths from which she claws herself back goes back to Noelle’s desire to prove that no person is a vessel ‘fitted for destruction.’ Catra goes about as far down the path of evil as we’ve ever seen a protagonist in a kids show go, and she still has the capacity for good. Importantly, she is not subject to total depravity - she is capable of a good act, if only one at first. Catra is the one who begins her own redemption (unlike in Calvinism, where grace is unearned and even unwelcomed) - because she wants something better than what she has, even if its too late, because she realizes that she never wanted any of this anyway, because she wants to do one good thing once in her life even if it kills her.
The very extremity of Catra’s descent into villainy serves to underline the point that Noelle is trying to make - that no one can be written off completely, that everyone is capable of change, and that no human being is garbage, no matter how twisted they’ve become. Meanwhile her ability to set her own redemption in motion is a powerful statement of human agency, and healing, and a refutation of Calvinism’s idea that we are powerless before sin or pop cultural tropes about us being powerful before the traumas of our upbringing. Catra’s arc, then, is a kind of anti-Calvinist theological statement - about the nature of people and the nature of goodness.
Now, there is a darker side to this that Noelle has only hinted at, but which is suggested by other characters on the show. Because while Catra’s redemption shows that people are capable of change, even when they’ve done horrible things, been fucked up and fucked themselves up, it also illustrates the things people do to themselves that make change hard. As I mentioned in my Catra rant, two of the most sinister parts of her descent into villainy are her self-dehumanization (crushing her own compassion and desire to do good) and her rewriting of her own history in her speech and memory to make her own actions seem justified (which we see with her insistence that Adora left her, eliding Adora’s offers to have Catra join her, or her even more clearly false insistence that Entrapta had betrayed them). In Catra, these processes keep her going down the path of evil, and allow her to nearly destroy herself and everyone else. But we can see the same processes at work in two much darker figures - Shadow Weaver and Horde Prime. These are both rants for another day, but the completeness of Shadow Weaver’s narcissistic self-justification and cultivated callousness and the even more complete narcissism of Prime’s god complex cut both characters off from everyone around them. Perhaps, in a theoretical sense, they are still redeemable, but for narrative purposes they might as well be damned.
This willingness to show a case where someone -isn’t- redeemed actually serves to make Catra’s redemption more believable, especially since Noelle and the writers draw the distinction between how Catra and SW/Prime can relate to reality and other people, not how broken they are by their trauma (unlike Zuko and Azula, who are differentiated by How Fucked Uolp They Are). Redemption is there, it’s an option, we can always do what is right, but someone people will choose not to, in part because doing the right thing involves opening ourselves to the world and others, and thus being vulnerable. Noelle mentions this offhandedly in an interview after Season 1 with the She-Ra Progressive of Power podcast - “I sometimes think that shades of grey, sympathetic villains are part of the escapist fantasy of shows like this.” Because in the real world, some people are just bastards, a point that was particularly clear in 2017. Prime and Shadow Weaver admit this reality, while Catra makes a philosophical point that even the bastards can change their ways (at least in theory).
*An idea first proposed in the second century by Origen, who’s a trip and a fucking half by himself, and an idea that becomes the Catholic doctrine of purgatory, which protestants vehemently denied!
**Speaking of favorite Noelle tropes
