I watched some rodeos today so that means I desperately need to write about 20 year old non pilot Jake being a cowboy and terrifying his New York dads. (Here’s prequel to this fic)

Chris, David, Wolfman and Lucas are all up on the fences watching. They all are used to this kind of thing. Oh the joys of growing up in Texas.

Tom, Ron, and Hollywood are in the stands. They all keep flinching when people get tossed. Tom’s nails are digging into Ron’s arm. He gasps every time someone lands wrong. He can’t believe they let their kid do this.

They’re in Vegas. All things considered a fun trip. They all took vacation time for this. Promised that if Jake used his fake ID they won’t call him on it. This is the final day of four for the rodeo.

Jake’s good. Too good. Ron can’t stand to watch him most days. Terrified that their kid is going to slam his head and not get back up.

Lucas promises him that he’ll be over the fence first before anyone else can be. Ron supposes an ER nurse is better then the paramedics they’ve got on ground.

Jake is hopping in place. He can feel the energy of the stadium, he watches them put the bull in the corral, Hell Maker is his name. Jake slides his helmet on and climbs the fence. He settles on the bull.

He hears the announcer.

“And now. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin. He’s one of the best twenty year olds competing he’s got a real chance at winning this Frank.”

“You’re so right Shawn. His father rode in Texas circles, Chris Seresin is in the crowd tonight. We’ll remind y’all listeners that the Seresins have a long history in riding rodeo.”

Jake shakes off the nerves. He knows he’s best. He can make it twelve seconds. Has to.

As he’s flying through the air it’s in slow motion. He made it nineteen seconds. He beat the records in place. Jake is going to make his dads buy him so many drinks tonight.

He slams into the ground. He tucks and rolls. He leaps up and takes off for the siding. Makes it over right at the bull slams into the wall.

Suddenly Jake is being held in the air. He shrieks, David and Wolf have him on their shoulders. Chris and Lucas are standing grinning up at him. Chris opens his arms and Jake jumps down and into them.

“Baby you did so good. I’m so proud of you.”

Jake sees his pa and tata make their way over to him. He’s surrounded by everyone suddenly. He’s so overwhelmed. He has to blurt it out now or he’s going to explode.

“I think this is going to be the last pro competition I do. Gonna go to med school.” They all stare at him for a second. “I’m not going to stop riding. Just no more getting thrown off intentionally.”

Ron is the first to react. “Chickie thank god.” He scoops Jake into a hug. Tom hugs him from the side. Chris plucks the hat off Jake’s head and kisses his hair.

He’s then passed to all of his uncles. Lucas looks like he might cry. He holds Jake’s face for a second. “You’ll be incredible.” Jake grins at him. “Wanna be a nurse like you. Help people.” Lucas lets the tears go down his face now. David loops his arm around his neck.

Jake is grabbed by Hollywood and Wolfman, Holly is grinning at him. He passes over two hundred bucks. “What the fuck?” Wolf blushes. “We made a bet on which career you’d follow. Decided you’d get the money no matter what happened.” Jake laughs. He grabs the two of them into a hug.

A photographer comes over and asks to take a photo of Jake with his dad. Chris smiles and agrees. Women still practically faint for him at points. Ron and Tom smile at the two of them. Jake is every bit his dads son.

Jake ends up getting a trophy. He’s proud of it but is even more proud of the money he wins at slots two nights later. All of them insist he cheated. He didn’t he’s just lucky.

In his thirty’s he talks Bradley into going to the rodeo, Bradley thinks it’s insane that Jake’s dads let him do this. Jake points out Mav and Goose had Bradley up in planes when he was definitely too young.

Bradley leans over while they watch the kids rodeo, “our kids are never doing this.” Jake stares at him. They’ve barely talking marriage. Fuck, Jake wants kids with Bradley. He flushes, “okay. They’re learning how to ride horses though.” Bradley nods. He presses a kiss to Jake’s head. “Anything you want sweetheart.”

Summary: You have been secretly dating Jean-Ralphio for a while… How will the parks department take it when you bring him to Leslie and Ben's wedding?

When you returned to work the following Monday, you kept your head down, hoping no one had noticed your shenanigans and that you could just move on with your life. Well, the universe had different plans for you. When you walked into the Parks office, Ben Wyatt stood talking to Ron Swanson, the very same Ron Swanson who you saw as a father figure. You stop in the doorway, and consider for a moment, leaving.

“Y/N. There you are,” Ron greets, calling you over to him and Ben. You and Ben lock eyes and you shoot him a scared expression, which he returns. “I was just telling Ben here about how you do the front desk for the department.”

“Yeah,” you nod.

“That’s great, would you mind being mine and Chris’ receptionist for the time being?” you once again shoot him a shocked look.

“Y-yeah sure,” you didn’t know the guy well and were honestly worried he might blab if you said no.

“Great, if you wanna gather your things, me and Ron have a couple of other things to discuss,” he smiles warmly at you.

“Okay, cool,” you let your shoulders relax a little and head to your desk, gathering some personal effects.

“Hey there beautiful,” you nearly jump out of your skin at the sound of his voice. Jean-Ralphio leaned over your desk, as you emptied out a drawer.

You glare at him and try your best to act disgusted, “Ew, fuck off.”

“Aw, don’t be like that, baby,” he reaches out to caress your cheek, but you pull away from him.

You look around quickly, “I’m serious, fuck off,” you whisper.

“Jean-Ralphio! To what do we owe this honor?” Leslie asks loudly, trying to draw him away from you.

He looks to you briefly, but ends up flirting with Leslie, as he heads to the back to find Tom.

April and Andy’s wedding came as a shock to most people, but not to you, you knew April well enough to know that she really did love Andy, and you didn’t doubt that love. You were honestly very happy for the two of them.

Entering the kitchen, you browsed the snack table. “Miss me gorgeous?” you hear from beside you.

“Jean-Ralphio,” you sigh.

“How you been, beautiful?”

“Good, you?” you ask, looking around the room.

“I would be better if you let me drill you again,” he leans on the table.

“How charming,” you state, walking away.

“Oh c’mon, you know you wanna,” he begs, trailing behind you.

“Maybe I do, but I’m not gonna do it if you keep making what happened between us so obvious,” you whisper harshly at him.

“Jean-Ralphio!” Tom exclaims, gaining Jean-Ralphio’s attention, “There you are!”

Jean-Ralphio opens his mouth to reply to you, but you're already gone before he can turn around.

You spend the rest of the reception practically glued to the hip to Ron. Though Ben approaches you when Ron gets distracted talking to April’s dad. “Hey,” Ben says.

“Hey Ben.”

“You uh were talking to Jean-Ralphio earlier, I saw,” he scratched the back of his neck.

You nod. “Yeah, he is, um, annoying.”

“I want you to know,” Ben whispers, looking around, “your secret is very safe with me, I would never tell anyone what I saw.”

“Thank you, Ben,” you spot Jean-Ralphio and Tom chatting across the room.

“You know,” he starts again, “I don't mean to intrude, but you shouldn't care so much about what other people think.”

“Thanks, and I know, but I mean,” you lower your voice, “It's Jean-Ralphio, ” you shoot Ben a grin.

He laughs lightly, “Yeah, but I still think you should go for it… I mean, if you want to,” he rushes, “I’m not assuming-”

“It's okay,” you calm him. “I do, I think.” You look to Jean-Ralphio again, only to see he was staring back at you, something dark in his eyes. “Excuse me…” you slip past Ben to the side of the room, keeping eye contact with Jean-Ralphio, and nodding your head towards the back door. His eyes shoot to the back door and back to you and he nods quickly, excusing himself from his conversation with Tom.

You step out into the backyard and take a deep breath of the cool night air. The stars twinkle overhead as you find a bench off to the side, “Enjoying the view?” Jean-Ralphio moves into the backyard beside you.

“Mhmm,” you agree.

“Me too,” he slides into the seat and places an arm around you.

You turn your head to look at him and see he's already staring at you. You risk a glance down at his lips. Which prompts Jean-Ralphio to place a hand on the side of your face, tracing your cheekbone with his thumb. He leans forward to press a soft kiss to your lips, which seems uncharacteristic at first, but then his other hand begins roaming your body.

“We can't do this here,” you say, grabbing his adventurous hand.

“Then let's get out of here,” he bites his lip.

“It's my best friend’s wedding, I can't just ditch it…” you start, thinking deeply, “Meet me at my car in an hour, okay?” You kiss his cheek, getting up to leave.

“I’ll be there!” Jean-Ralphio calls after you.

Your second time hooking up with Jean-Ralphio was slower, more sensual, the type of thing you would want to continue doing. That had you feeling some type of way.

When you woke neither you nor Jean-Ralphio were clothed, and there was an insistent knocking at the door.

“Y/N! It's Leslie! Can I come in? Its important!” Leslie called from the other side of the door, you look at the sleepy Jean-Ralphio who was clinging tighter to you now.

“Jean-Ralphio,” you whisper-scream. You hit him lightly when he doesn't respond, “You have to get up!”

You roll out of the bed, pulling the tired boy with you, leaving him half dangling off the bed. He groans, “What's going on?”

“Leslie’s here, now get up and shit , what am I gonna do with you?” you stop briefly from putting on clothes.

“Y/N?” Leslie calls.

“Get up!” you pull the pants on the rest of the way, grabbing Jean-Ralphio's clothes off the floor and pushing him into your closet. “I’m sorry,” you say before closing the closet door. “I’m coming Leslie!” you rush to the door.

“Oh thank god, I thought something horrible had happened to you,” Leslie sighs as you open the door. She pushes her way in despite your protests, “I need to talk to you about Ann, something awful is happening to her…” Leslie sits on your couch, rambling for a few minutes about Ann’s constant changing aesthetics.

“Leslie, let me stop your for a sec,” you interrupt, “I’m half awake and it's clear you've really thought this through, so how about this, you head down to JJ’s, get us a booth and order us some coffees and waffles, and I’ll take a shower and meet you there! By the time I get there the waffles should be ready!” you smile nervously at her.

“What an incredible idea Y/N!” Leslie stands. “You're always thinkin, huh?”

You smile, “Yeah, I’ll uh see you in like 20 minutes okay?” you rush her out the door before she can even agree. You breathe a sigh of relief as you lock the door and turn around. Shit . You rush across the apartment to your room, releasing Jean-Ralphio from his prison. “I’m so sorry,” you say.

“It’s fine,” Jean-Ralphio shrugs, putting his clothes on, “I get it, you don't want anyone to know about us.”

“What? No! I mean, sort of, just- not yet,” you sigh. “How about this, we go out sometime?” Jean-Ralphio lights up, “In Eagleton,” he deflates a little, “But you can pick the time and place.”

Jean-Ralphio smiles, starting to get giddy, “Really?”

“Yeah,” he leans down and kisses you feverishly. Pulling away slightly, you tell him, “But you do have to go now.”

“Okay, yeah,” he kisses you again. You push him towards the door lightly and he grins excitedly, walking backwards toward the door and exiting.

Your date with Jean-Ralphio was surprisingly nice, even though you spent a lot of the time looking over your shoulder. This prompted your late night and even daytime rendezvous with Jean-Ralphio to become more and more frequent. Unfortunately though, this was not a planned rendezvous.

You sat at the front desk of the parks department, when he walked in carrying two coffees. A small smile graces your face, but you keep your tone even, “Jean-Ralphio,”

“My love,” he sets one of the coffees down in front of you.

You look around quickly and shoot him a glare, “You and I both know I can’t take this.”

He frowns at you, “Jean-Ralphio!” Tom exclaims behind you.

“Tommy-T! How you been? I brought you a coffee!” He grabs the coffee off the front desk and hands it to Tom when he approaches.

“Thanks man,” Tom smiles widely, taking a sip. “Ew!” He spits the coffee all over the desk.

“Dude,” you scold, looking at the splattered coffee.

“What is this? It’s disgusting! Y/N throw it out!” He shoves it in your direction. Instead, you take the lid off, sipping the coffee and shrugging, taking another sip. “Fine, or drink it, whatever,” Tom sighs, “C’mon Jean-Ralphio, let’s talk at my desk.” As Tom leaves, Jean-Ralphio lingers, hoping to catch your eye, you shoot him a grin, sipping the coffee again.

After Tom and Jean-Ralphio were at Tom's desk, April comes up beside you, “Gimme that,” she demands, ripping the coffee from your hand. You begin to protest, but April takes a sip, standing there pensively. “Just what I thought.” And with that she leaves.

“April-,” you start but she’s gone.

A little later you approach April’s desk, “Can we talk?” April nods and the two of you move to the courtyard. “Listen, I don’t know what you think you figured out earlier, but you can’t tell anyone.”

April crosses her arms, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but if I did, you know I wouldn’t say a thing.”

You smile in relief, “Thank you, I love you.”

“I’m not the only one you love,” she teases. You gape in shock and grab your chest dramatically as if you'd been scolded.

I’m absolutely living for bitey ice and Jake just inheriting different traits from his dad. This has me thinking about what would’ve happened if during the classroom confrontation in TGM if Jake had snapped his teeth at Bradley (idk why he would, haven’t gotten that far) and Mav saw it instantly reminding him of a different arrogant Blonde pilot he flew with many years ago. That Vietnam flashbacks meme but it’s TGM Mav flashing back to the locker room teeth snapping incident of ‘86.

Then later Jake fidgeting with the same plane Ron fidgeted with in that scene and Mav walking by seeing him doing that and wondering why that is so familiar to him

Jake taking a comb out one day and preening his hair in the mirror muttering to himself that he needs to look perfect cause it has to be absolutely perfect in case some chicken might happen to walk by and Mav just thinking “wow that man is vain, sorta like how Hollywood used to be”

Jake showing up to Dagger functions with his cowboy hat on, southern twang flirting hard with rooster and Mav just wonders where that boy got his fashion sense from

And then finally hearing the famous “I’m too good to be true” line and Mav is just absolutely bothered cause he can’t seem to remember where he knows that from (viper from that one ask thing you wrote)

Then the one day that the daggers and the class of ‘86 have that bbq at Ice’s house after the mission and Mav just realizes why Hangman is the way he is. It’s because he’s basically a perfect cocktail in a blonde aviators body of the different traits of the people he knows.

I might just absolutely live for Mav meeting jakes parents (and uncles and grandpa) again after all the years post mission. And the dawning horror of who made Jake in to the way he is

I’m so glad you love them oh my god. I literally can’t stop talking about them.

Jake is such a combo of the men he grew up around and that never ends. He has Chris’s tendency of stealing clothing. Doesn’t matter who. He’s taking it.

When Mav saw him in a 86 sweatshirt he froze for a second and then shook his head. Just a coincidence. Damn if Jake doesn’t look like Ice.

Mav walks into Tom’s backyard only to see Hangman and a few of the 86 crew already there. “Wolf?! Holly?” He’s caught in a hug and then set back on the ground. A voice piped up from behind the two. “Hey old man.”

He sighs. “Seresin. Being good?”

Jake snaps his gum and grins. “Never around these guys.” Wolf tosses an arm around Jake’s shoulders and steers him to the grill where Mav swears Slider is standing. Tom comes up to Mav and gives him a hug. It’s been so long since they’ve seen each other in a non professional setting.

“Hey Mav. I’d like you to meet my husbands.”

Mav blinks. Okay look. He always knew Ice wasn’t straight. No man with that hair was. No man that looked at Slider like that was. But husband is a bit of a surprise. Certainly no open invites. “Hey Chris come here a second?”

A blond man pops his head up from here he was sitting on the ground with a dog. He was fixing what looks to be a doggy sized wheelchair. Cute.

“Yeah Baby?”

Mav blinks again. Does Jake have a much older brother??

Holy shit. “Holy shit. He’s your kid??” Tom and the man he is assuming Chris smile at him. “Sure is! Ron’s too!”

Mav stares at them. Jake passes by with a beer and hands it to Mav, “drink old man. You’ll need this today.” Ron slips away from the grill and comes up next to the three of them. “Mav! Holy shit you’ve been killing it with the assignments over the years.”

Jake is a clone of the three of them. Oh lord. No wonder he’s evil sometimes. “This is your fault. He’s like this because of you oh n o.” Wolf spins Holly around in the background, “oh he’s all of you. Oh no I thought Bradley was bad.”

A voice comes from behind him. “What Maverick? Gonna leave me out of that count?” Mav can only slowly turn when he hears that voice. “Oh fuck me. You too??”

Viper grins at him from where he’s standing while hugging Jake. “Sure thing Pete. This is my grand baby right here.”

Mav thinks maybe he should’ve dragged Goose along with him early. He can’t handle all of this information. It makes too much sense.

“Surprised old man?” Mav looks at Jake who looks slightly nervous for the first time. “Surprised but not disappointed. Nice one Jake. How’d you hide it.”

Jake shrugs. “DADT made taking Dad’s last name the smart choice. Never changed it even when they all got married. Or whatever other hippy shit that counted as.”

Chris grabs Jake and pulls him in between the three of them. Viper comes to stand next to Mav. “I’ll show you some baby photos later. It’ll make more sense.”

Mav nods. Holly is wearing Wolf’s cowboy hat. He swears that’s Jake’s exact hat.

He’s got a lot of questions but knows he’ll get a hell of an answer for them all.

They got me upset at work, so I...scribbled a bit of sad. (Cause yes, I was angry, but angry me gets really emotional and I have no control over that.) (Yes i tried not to cry writing... barely succeeded, just barely.)

(Also, Jake thinking his nightmare was a prediction of the future is the same of me having dreams connected to bad things happening to very close family members. It happened before, different times)

Jake is 15 when he gets in a bit too much trouble. Police involved kind of trouble. The kind of trouble that could keep him off of USNA even.

Obviously they get him out of trouble, but, Ron is angry this time. It's 5 days before he and Tom are deployed again. Chris won't be able to protect him that way, he grounds Jake. Because yes, he is pissed. His kid could've jeopardized his own future, was it worth?! He thought they raised him better, he thought HE raised him better.

But Jake is 15, and he's angry at the world. And his dads are going to miss yet another birthday. Sure he understand their sacrifices, he wants to follow their footsteps after all, but he's still angry somehow. And maybe craves more of their attention, despite knowing they love him more than life itself. He's just so, so angry at papa because it was papa who grounded him.

So he just burst. He yells at him all the anger he has, he says things he never thought of even think, things he never wanted to say, hints he doesn't really think. He says them anyway and locks himself in his room.

He doesn't say bye when they leave. He waves at Tata, but that's all. No begging to get back safe, no good luck and stay safe. Just a wave.

Fuck. It breaks Ron's heart so much. His chickie said that he's not his father. He doesn't have his name, and if anything, he would take Tata's name anyway. He doesn't have his blood. Even though Ron was the only one between them who could give him blood when Jake needed it when he was a toddler. Jake said he doesn't love him that much either.

He knows he was just angry, he was crying when he yelled it.

Chris tried to talk to Jake, to have him apologize, at least before deployment. Jake knows, he can see the hurt in his Papa's eyes, but fuck, he can hold a grudge.

Yup. No good luck hug and kiss.

Ron tells Chris to give him a kiss from them every time he calls. Jake is not that angry anymore, but he's stubborn, just like them all. Especially Ron.

One time Ron doesnt call. Busy, they think, it's okay. Come on, they're navy.

But he doesn't call the following day either, or the one after. Or after. He skips 2 whole weeks and so does Tom. Chris tries not to think anything of it. He tries not to show.

Jake wakes up one night screaming at the top of his lungs, like he's in actual, physical pain, he cries, sobs. Chris runs to him so fast he almost trips over Ron's dog, a big mixed breed he found in the side of the road and who apparently only really loves ron, Tokyo. He believes his son is hurt.

Jake keeps sobbing when Chris gets to him, checks him all over, holds him tight. And calls for papa in the most desperate way. It takes almost two hours, and now a killer headache, for Jake to tell him he had a nightmare where Ron got shot down and he's found dead. All because he sent them anyway without a hug.

Chris calls Holly and wolf, he asks them for help, asks them to see why ron and tom went suddenly on radio silence for this long, see if they're okay. Jake is deadly sure they're not okay.

Ron was actually shot down. Left stranded. Took them a while to find him, he's alive though, unlike Jake's nightmare, barely but he's alive.

Broken ribs, one leg, a wrist and badly concussed. Bleeding. Cold.

Tom never called because he was searching for him and couldn't think of anything at all but to find Ron and get him home.

He's moved to a ground base hospital, Chris packs a few things, grabs Jake and flies there.

Ron's sedated when they get there, they had to take some extra scans, check that there's no bleeding in the brain. Jake freezes, he trembles, he breaks in their arms and cries. He's scared how close his own nightmare came to be real. He's terrified that they found papa when he had that nightmare, like he predicted it somehow.

He knows he's not a little kid anymore, but curls up in the bed, careful of all the injuries.

They don't know when he'll wake up, scans show nothing so it's just a waiting game now, they say he'll wake up when his body will be stronger.

Jake keeps having terrible nightmares until ron open his eyes again. (After too, just less terrible, only bad.)
