Self Care Activities that Actually Help
My list of practical, achievable and useful self care tips that will actually improve your mood instead of enabling you to wallow.
Reply to your correspondence
Often if we feel low or our motivation is down, we find it tricky to respond to messages and calls from others. This allows unopened messages to pile up which creates stress and even panic. Instead of trying to ignore this problem, set a timer for 15 minutes. Then give yourself those 15 minutes to respond to as many of those messages as possible, starting with the most urgent messages first. If you cannot complete all the messages, take a minute to reevaluate. Can you give yourself another 15 minutes to finish the task today? If not, that’s fine. Assign the task for tomorrow, and repeat the process when you feel refreshed. If you are not able to give a thorough response to all of your contacts, I recommend drafting a universal message to send, stating that you are currently occupied and you hope to offer them a more appropriate message over the coming days. You can tailor this message to suit your needs and circumstances, and it reduces the amount of pressure on you to offer explanations for your absences.
Wash your clothes
Take the clothes you are wearing off. All of them. Strip your bed. Gather up any towels or tea cloths you can find. Wash them all. I cannot overstate the benefit of living in a clean environment, and wearing clean clothes. Even if you can’t wash everything, wash the essentials, and make sure you are wearing fresh clothes from head to toe. You can swap pyjamas out for more pyjamas, what you wear doesn’t matter. Just make sure they’re clean.
Water
Drink a pint of water with nothing added, no fruit, no cordial, nothing. Just drink a pint of water in one sitting. You are almost definitely dehydrated, just like everyone else. Hydration provides mental clarity, energy, and even relives stress. It reduces pains and aches in the body. It helps quell nausea and heartburn. Water is the quickest and easiest way to reduce physical pain or discomfort throughout the day. By keeping hydrated, you’re improving your quality of life almost instantly.
Stretch in bed or on the sofa
The last thing most of us want to do when we feel low or unmotivated is going for a run, or working out at the gym. Instead of pushing yourself to get a serious or intense workout in, try some stretches you can do from the comfort of your bed or sofa. Stretches will help relieve tension in the body and can increase your energy throughout the day. You don’t have to do anything crazy, just a couple of simple, effective stretches will do the trick.
Eat a “healthy” carb
People so often try to avoid eating carbs as they think carbohydrates are inherently unhealthy. This is simply not the case. While carbohydrates are often used in the production of unhealthy treats such as cakes, cookies and pies, they are not fundamentally bad for you. Carbs are our main source of energy, and if you’re feeling low energy is exactly what you need. Try eating a healthier alternative to those instant sugar rush carbs, such as rice, wholemeal pastas or breads, potatoes or oats. You can add other ingredients to these meals, such as berries to oats or some veg to pasta, to make a more filling meal. Everyone eats differently, but we all need carbohydrates in our diet to provide energy and nutrition, alongside other food groups. Creating a balanced diet is much more important than eating “healthy” all the time. Respect your body by fuelling it appropriately and regularly.
Clean yourself as best you can
Have a shower. Take your makeup off. Brush your hair. Clip your nails. Put deodorant on. Brush your teeth. Wash your hands. You might not have the energy for a full “everything shower” but you can probably do one of the things listed above to make yourself feel better about yourself and your hygiene. Don’t berate yourself if you’ve gone a while without practicing any of these for a while, life can be pretty difficult. Just accept your current situation and try to better it as best you can with the energy you now have.
Please reach out to a trusted person or a qualified professional if you feel you need extra support for any reason. You are not alone and you do not need to suffer in silence. Support is there.

a big aspect of antisocial personality disorders (cluster B, and schizotypal/schizoid) that doesnt get talked about much is the prevelance of sleep disregulation and how it significantly exasperates many of the negative symptoms, more people with these pds would greatly benifit from sleeping pills/supplements and or dietary adjustment, improving sleep behavior
i have written some in-depth information about these things below the cut:
dietary adjustment such as increasing sources of
magnesium — nuts, seeds, avacado, black beans, leafy greens
tryptophan — lean proteins, such as chicken, turkey, fish, cheese
serotonin — complex carbs like whole grain pasta, bread, cereal, oats. unsaturated fats: peanut butter, nuts
melatonin — this one is more specific: tart cherry juice, goji berries, eggs, milk, salmon/tuna
supplement info
melatonin - many bottles contain 5 even 10 mg of melatonin per serving, you should not dose more than 1mg of melatonin as this will actually be detrimental to your sleep, break those pills into pieces, its better to get less than 1mg than more
magnesium - do not get "magnesium oxide", this one can be good for your gut health but will not improve your sleep, most all others that are commonly sold can help and magnesium complexes that include multiple kinds are the best
may help: theanine (400mg+) before bed, apigenin (chamomile), ashwagandha, mugwort, blue lotus, etc also omega3 fatty acids
sleep health
an hour or two before bed: eliminate lights, especially artificial lighting, and especially overhead or directly in front of your face (screens). even if the light is "orange" rather than "blue", most LED lights and screens still contain blue light that is imperceptible to the eye but to the body sees like sun light, some devices are better about reducing this youll have to do your own research but assume that most devices and lights have no incentive or knowledge that the ultra violet registers heavily mediates the regulation of melatonin and circadian rhythm, also this isnt just about light getting into your eyes, your skin can detect light too and this is part of the system, if you must be using screens late at night your orange light screen filter still probably helps but not very well, even better turn the brightness of these screens down as low as you can, i also like to use a greyscale filter, and using candle light can actually be much better than electric lights when going to bed. theres a lot more about sleep i could say but this light regulation is one of the biggest issues the modern era faces wrt sleep health, do your own research too

Just wanted to thank all you tumblr buddies for being so supportive. It means a lot.
Partner has been in what he calls “grandma mode” and is basically force-feeding me healthy snacks every hour to maintain my blood glucose. It seems to be helping with the dizziness, but I’m still tracking my numbers out of curiosity.
I don’t seem to have any dangerous glucose numbers in either direction, so I don’t think it’s gestational diabetes. What I think is happening is that I’m naturally prone to low blood sugar. This explains… a lot of incidents in my past, actually, including the times I passed out at the pool as a kid and almost passed out at work… And when I brought this up, my mom was like haha yeah I’m hypoglycemic but never told you lol it’s probably genetic. 🙄 tha nk s mOm
So I never knew this about myself until the baby started siphoning blood glucose off the top. It’s not an emergency, I just need to prevent spikes (goodbye processed carbs) and keep healthy food coming in small quantities. I never had problems with intermittent fasting (in fact it was great for stabilizing me) but haven’t been doing IF since the pregnancy, obviously. Even multiple small meals and snacks haven’t been enough, so. I must now eat a constant stream of nuts and berries like a little tweety bird. lol
Would have been nice for a medical professional to tell me this and not to have to figure it out myself via trial and error……… I mean, they sort of tried, but not in a way that was helpful? I don’t know.
But anyway

HI ok u dont gotta post this i just wanted to give some info bc u mentioned wanting to do disability right and i just wanted to give info u might find useful. Leopardstar has diabetes and while idk if she gets murked or not before that goes into full force, but shed absolutely not be herself during that whole shebang.
The first signs would be increaded dirt place visits to go pee, and needing to drink a lot. Wouldn't be too hard for cats to miss this since they live in riverclan, Clan Of Water, but it'd be an UNUSUAL amount. Personally, i noticed it myself and genuinely got concerned bc i was drinking triple what i normally did and would wake up in the middle of the night specifically to chug water.
Next thing would be her getting skinnier and out of breath more easily. Her body would effectively be eating her muscles away and shed 100% be unable to fight well or even at all at this point- accounting for exercise and a relatively low carb diet of fish, maybe these symptons would show up after a month and a half? At this point a medicine cat could notice the odd lack of energy but i doubt it'd be obvious what was happening, the medicine cat might pat her on the back, give her some herbs (honey or berries would be BADDD), and send her off.
Soon after shed start throwing up sugar, which just straight up burns ur throat like hell. Its hell. She'd also not feel too hungry now- in reality shes starving, and her body is too busy not dying to notice nor care. At this point if Mistyfoot did Her Thing, Leopardstar would barely be able to stand let alone fight her. In her final days shed be completely weakened and barely able to focus, and she'd start getting pains in her stomach and pelvis. I was unfortunate enough to cut it extremely close, and when i was diagnosed i was told i had less than half a week to live if i hadnt went to the hospital. Depending on if the medicine cat catches on, they could absolutely be making everything 50 times worse by feeding her berries or honey to soothe her burning throat, feeding a cycle of eating honey and throwing up the sugars in the honey. I did this with gingerale and it SUCKED.
Now!! If you want to have leopardstar put up a FIGHT and have her have diabetes and live with it, theres a few ideas. Firstly, only type 1 i believe can be treated without insulin. Secondly, Bloodclan could 100% steal human insulin and give it to Riverclan. The two are compatible i /think/. Three, idk the exact process but apparently you can make ur own insulin using the pancreas from animals, which she could use to survive. Four, without medicine, shed have to do a lot of exercise and manage her diet. With a raw fish diet it's much easier, but she'll probably not be too happy about not being able to eat tunnelbuns without feeling like crap and throwing it up after.
Going down the Bloodclan sourced medicine route, Misty could also kill her using the medicine. Insulin is a delicate balance- too little and you start throwing up and ur body eats u again. Too much and you have no energy to move and you can die within the next hour. Doesnt even take that much, a dose of 18 when youre supposed to take 16 can be deadly. Double that amount and i doubt even a medicine cat could save her even if she knew- low bloodsugars make someone irrational or emotional + extremely whoozy, and its HARD to force feed someone honey when theyre adamant that theyre perfectly fine and just a little sleepy, thats all. In her sleep, and Leopardstar would maybe wake up briefly, feel extremely tired and odd and unable to move, and fall asleep and die.
Anyways this has been ur probably too long rant about diabetes and leopardstar hopefully its helpful in some way o7
Tumblr media
[ID: A student is taking notes]
You know, in my rewrite, Leopardstar is actually going to be killing Crookedstar. Not in a way where she would be caught-- I had been thinking it would be a generic poisoning. Maybe it would be dramatic and fascinating if Leopardstar had actually pulled this insulin trick... only to then recognize that Mistyfoot is trying to poison her in the same way.
I'm committed to Leopardstar dying in a battle with Mistyfoot. I had this awesome idea for the Sweet Nothings AU where a Villain Thornclaw lead Hollyleaf somewhere that the winner wouldn't be caught for their victory, so they could have a proper fight to the death.
What if I used that plotbunny here instead? Leopardstar realizing that Mistyfoot had brought her the wrong dose of insulin (I will work out how they get insulin when I make a herb guide for it), and deciding if either of them is going to die, they will die honorably. Not by trickery, but by the strength of their claws.
So she calls for Mistyfoot, tells the Clan they will be confronting rogues at the border, and then they march towards their final confrontation.

I've been reading Dungeon Meshi, and I think it would be super easy to turn it into a TTRPG Module or video game RPG. Dungeon Meshi is clearly very heavily influenced by RPGs. I think DnD 5e would be a natural fit, and not just because that's the one RPG whose rules I can remember clearly enough to talk about.
Here's the way I would do it. You could adopt the food radar chart from the manga pretty much unchanged, assigning different foods and spices different nutritional values. Food preparation would be based on a Wisdom-based Cook's Utensils check, where failure means the food is ruined during the process. would keep DCs low, say 5 for simple food (Roasts, Stews), 10 for more complicated food (Bread, Omelettes), and 15 for specialty dishes (Mousse, Souffle). A player who is proficient with Cook's Utensils and has help from another player for advantage should be able to successfully cook most of the time. After all, ruining the food should be an exception that puts players into unexpectedly difficult situations, not something that's frustratingly common.
Then, if your players don't eat 3 square meals or fail to meet their nutritional needs, they have to start making hunger checks (increasingly difficult Con saves) or start racking up points of exhaustion. I added in the Con saves to make it less likely that the party all becomes exhausted at once, letting characters who can resist the exhaustion for a while help carry the characters who can't until they can replenish their food supplies or escape to the surface. If you want to make your game especially accurate to the manga, you could give dwarves disadvantage on hunger checks.
I thought you might have to ban spells like Goodberry, but I think instead we can use the nutrition system to handle them. The expanded nutrition wheels that are used in the second half of the manga have 9 nutritional values, so I think fulfilling 1 nutritional need per spell level seems fair. Therefore, see this list:
Goodberry (Lvl 1): Energy*
Create Food and Water (Lvl 3): Energy, Protein, Carbs
Heroes' Feast (Lvl 5): All 9 Nutritional Needs**
Magnificent Mansion (Lvl 7): Energy, Calcium, Iron, Pick 2 of (Protein, Fat, Carbs), and Pick 2 of (Vit A, Vit B2, Vit C)
*Berries are nutritious, but a single berry is not gonna have much of anything.
**This is a level 5 spell, but it costs 1000 gold to cast. It's not exactly an inexhaustible source of food, but the food is supernaturally wholesome, so I think we should boost its nutritional values. Don't give your players too much gold though.
I have a few other considerations. Carrying capacity should probably be used, because how much food you can carry is important to how far you can explore. The dungeon's town should give players access to most spells, services, gear, and especially food stuffs for the right amount of cash, since the dungeon makes the town prosperous.
You can also bring over the resurrection crews, but that's a post for another day.

Tips that made me go from 160 to 125 pounds!
•go vegetarian! It’s the main reason I lost weight
•if you know you have a big party or event, save your calories and try not to eat through the day
•smoothies are really simple and it’s something your stomach can digest easily
• one plate rule. When going out, promise yourself one plate of food. No seconds or appetizers. Remember, you have a goal and you’ll see all of that food again
• don’t eat lots of processed foods. There greasy and add unnecessary calories. Instead eat some berries as a snack or make your own
•Water!!!
•don’t starve yourself if you feel like your going to faint, it’s super embarrassing when you actually do.
•going to Starbucks? Or chick fa la? Look up something on tik tok that’s low cal. My go to drink at Starbucks only has 70 calories in it.
•don’t make people feel sorry for you because YOU decided not to eat. This is your diet, not a way to get people to feel bad
• sugar and carbs make people fat, try to cut down on it
• cardio
• small portions are key
- love you!!! I hope you like my first post!

Intuitive Eating may sometimes feel like an endless proponent of eating “whatever you want”, or indulging in decadent, carb/sugar/fat rich foods, but let me tell you, one of the most joyful things for me, after eating intuitively for six years now is that I have allowed myself to truly fall back in love with many foods people consider “diet foods.”
For years I put myself on a series of strict, low carb diets, involving lean meats and salads. I snacked on raw carrots and low fat dressing and drank diet coke. When I first gave up dieting, I swore off those “diety” foods and indulged in all the pizza and cake and chips and cookies I wanted.
But, after eating whatever struck my fancy for several months, I was suddenly hit with the strongest urge for spinach. Out of the blue, my body screamed at me to eat a pile of sauteed spinach. So I bought some, sauteed it in olive oil with some lemon juice and salt and OH MY GOD it was the most delicious thing.
Now I can enjoy salads again. I can lust after broccoli and carrots, dipping them in humus and tasty dressings. I love the spicy crunch of a radish and the sweetness of fresh berries. In Intuitive Eating ALL FOOD FITS. People think of IE as a free for all, where you embark on a headlong binge of pepperoni pizza and chocolate donuts, but it’s not that at all. It is allowing the body to eat whatever it craves until all food is normalized. Until a pile of sauteed spinach with a little lemon and salt is just as delicious as a piece of chocolate cake.
