Thoughts + Feelings
Writing this at 3:23pm:
Started off today with my outdoor walk. It was a misty snow mixture this AM! My face and fingers were numbbbbb by the end of the walk, but I kept telling myself the cold exposure is working. Im so glad I got my Apple Watch up and running again to track today’s walk. I love watching my rings close. Rly makes life more satisfying… I will be getting a balaclava, running gloves, and fleece lined leggings tho. This is a definite fact.
I had a massage immediately after so I didn’t have time to make my protein shake which is fine.. I wasn’t hungry yet and I also hate laying on a massage table with a full stomach. For now I am going to be sleepy, enjoy my protein shake, and get my 10 pages in + some water to flush out my massage. 💗 check ya in a bit.
Update 9:39pm:
I got my indoor workout done with Form by Sami Clarke and did my daily PT exercises. I will say Form makes me realize how weak my core is from my endo surgeries. Deep in my heart it makes me feel sad that I didn’t do PT when doctors were suggesting it. Whatever tho. I’m going to be going back to softer work outs like yoga and Pilates for abs moving forward. Healing movements > all
Goodnight you guys,
Aly

2. **Two Workouts a Day:** Complete two separate workouts each day, each at least 45 minutes long. One of these workouts must be done outdoors.
3. **Read 10 Pages:** Read at least 10 pages of a non-fiction, self-improvement book every day.
4. **Drink a Gallon of Water:** Consume one gallon (3.78 liters) of water throughout the day.
5. **Take a Progress Picture:** Take a daily progress picture to track your physical transformation.
6. **No Cheat Meals:** Stick to your diet without any cheat meals or snacks.
7. **No Alcohol or Cheat Days:** Avoid alcohol and any other indulgences for the entire 75 days.
8. **No Excuses:** Complete all the tasks even on challenging days, no matter what.

OK so BOOM! I'm doing an outfit challenge on tiktok where it's called the #75hardchallenge
Basically, you don't buy any new clothes or accessories for 75 days, and you commit to going through your closet to pay attention to what you already have a lot of, what youre missing, etc.
It's cool! I'm on like day 11 right now, and I did the challenge partially because I wanted to have an excuse to hit one of my new years goals of posting at least 3x a month on tiktok so ive already hit one of them!

Hi pearlies!!
Sadly I kind of fucked up my challenge.
I didn't stick to my personal commitment and only did one 45-minute workout. However, I sticked to my diet, drank water, read and done smth productive - which, in my case, was doing my vision board!!!

It's beautiful, I know~
Still, I'm glad that I started, and I'm going to try again tomorrow <3

75 Hard
Day 1: January 2, 2024
[X] Progress Photo
[X] Read 10 Pages
-Reading: Smarter Not Harder by Dave Asprey
[X] Outdoor Workout (45mins)
-Outdoor walk
[X] Indoor Workout (45 mins)
- Full range physical therapy
[/] Drank 1 Gal of Water
-71/128 fl oz
This gets half an X because I don’t consider this failing .. idc what anyone says we shouldn’t be drowning our bods with water when it’s not regularly taking on a gallon. A slow increase is a W to me + I drink minerals/electrolytes. 💙
[X] Eat Desired Diet/No Alch
Breakfast: Protein Smoothie - bananas, strawberries, Chocolate (vegan)protein powder, cacao + cacao nibs, rice bran, flax, chia seeds, pearl powder, inulin
Snack: Sliced turkey chest + freeze dried apples w/ cinnamon
Dinner: Chicken Salad (these are old photos but this is the exact recipe + ingredients I used except for the vermicelli noodles in the top rack of the cart)
P.s I fast in the AM so when I say break(fast) I mean I’m breaking my fast (usually around noon) Fasting is what feels most natural to me. Eating as soon as I wake up doesn’t feel natural in any form.. I feel so slow after early morning meals. I also try to get my dinner in when the sun is setting or before. I might start back up on celery juice. Stay tuned 📻
Thoughts + Feelings
Honestly today was a major slay. My brain is quite depleted from having therapy + physical therapy, but I feel successful in today’s efforts.
I am excited to get into the gym and get full on indoor workouts on my days I don’t have physical therapy. I feel they rly hit that reward center in my brain, but a win is a win. 🏆 I have to respect the fact that a slow torturous work out in PT is a workout none the less. Having 25lb weights pull your body in all different directions is by no means a piece of cake. (My therapist was also telling me that getting my spine aligned is realigning my chakras and energy field. Fascinating stuff)
I will be investing in some fleece lined leggings for my outdoor walks because burrrr ❄️
I’m not too far down the rabbit hole of my book yet, but so far so good.
See you tomorrow,
Aly

75 DAYS HARD CHALLENGE: DAY I
Previously I announced that I will begin the 75 Days Hard Challenge at the first of July. For anyone unfamiliar, the Challenge takes 75 Days and follows these daily rules:
Choose a diet and follow it (without cheat meals or alcohol)
Complete two 45-minute workouts daily (one needs to be outside no matter the weather)
Drink a gallon of water every day
Read 10 pages of nonfiction
Take progress pictures
If you skip or miss a task you must start over
Things you should know:
I decided to try this challenge because I want to improve my mental toughness and physical fitness (also I want to prove to myself that I am consistent). It's probably not for everyone, so there is also a soft version of this challenge called 75 Days Soft Challenge.
I prepared for this challenge a month in advance. I tried out what diet suits me the most without craving cheat meals, decided on what books I want to read and what kind of workouts are the best for me.
I don't want to bother you with a daily follow up of my challenge, but please consider I'll try to do an update every 1-2 weeks.
"All great things have small beginnings."
My current routine on this challenge varies from day to day because I do work shifts but there are a few things that stay consistent during this challenge:
Diet:
I decided to do IF with a 16:8 ratio. I start eating at 10am and have my last meal at 6pm. Mostly low carb, high protein. No meat, no sugar, limited dairy. Please consider that every human is different and what may work for me, won't do it for you. I decided to become vegetarian a month ago and I don't regret it yet.
2. Workouts:
I am not an athlete. Therefore two heavy workouts a day would cause me injuries. I'm taking a 45 minutes outdoor walk everyday and the second workout is whatever suits my day the most. For example on Mondays I'm going to a yoga class, therefore this will be my second workout.
3. Hydration:
To be honest, I had to change this one a bit. I'm drinking one black coffee every morning and I'm also having a tea before I go to sleep. This intake plus a gallon of water would be too much for my body. I decided to drink 3 Liters of water everyday and the missing 0,7 liters will be tea and black coffee. I'm not drinking anything else for the duration of this challenge. No soft drinks, no alcohol, no milk (except for coconut milk for my overnight oats).
4. my non-fiction reading list:
Patrick Lencioni - The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
Dale Carnegie - How to Win Friends and Influence People
Yuval Harari - Homo Deus
Yuval Harari - 21 Lessons for the 21 Century
Daniel Kahneman - Thinking Fast and Slow
James Clear - Atomic Habits
Robert Greene - The 48 Laws of Power
Robert Greene - The Art of Seduction
Erich Fromm - The Art of Loving
Oliver Burkeman - Four Thousands Weeks
James Carse - Finite and Infinite Games
Seneca - Letters from a Stoic
Plato - Allegory of the Cave
5. last but not least - the progress picture:
I hate taking pictures, so I won't really share them but I made a folder on my phone and taking the photo is the first thing I'm doing in the morning to get it off my list.
Bisous!

A few lessons I’ve learned from finishing the Hard75 Challenge:
1. Weight loss may result in flabby skin. It sucks but it's true. Unfortunately, age and genetics have contributed to my loose unattractive skin, something I’ll just have to wrap my head around.
2. Fitness/proper health/staying healthy requires commitment long after any challenge or diet plan finishes. It becomes a lifestyle not a brief alteration to one’s day to day.
3. The mental aspect in the wake of the end of the Hard75 was more surprising and difficult than I expected. Guilt. Regret. Anxiety. Frustration. All of these raised their ugly heads, and if I’m being honest, I still struggle with.
4. Self-discipline. I am proud of myself for digging in and leaning into the ‘suck’. I have a tendency to talk the talk and forget to walk the walk. The second workout outside, the food prep, the 'all-of-it' ... Acta Non Verba.
5. Quality time with my beautiful wife. Sometimes we’re more accountable when other people are supporting and cheering you on. Walks and workouts with her made the whole experience that much better. Any time with her is wonderful, but I'd rather get outside than sink into the couch and ignore each other in front of our phones or tv.
6. Overall, the whole challenge was positive. sincerely, I'm glad I tackled it. I feel better. I have more energy. I am a tad leaner. I altered some daily habits that really weren’t serving me very well. and outlasting that dreaded 'Valley of Disappointment'... In the past, I have succumbed to impatience and lack of visible changes/rewards - eventually giving up.

Day 2 + 3: 75 Soft Challenge
From the last week where I started the challenge the things I wanted to change was mainly the reading portion but I didn’t think I was doing all I could with the exercise portion either.
As I’m using this challenge to try and live more intentionally, I knew that while I was getting the workout in, it wasn’t with purpose.
I am having to balance the intent of the challenge with my perfectionism. Living with intention obviously doesn’t mean it’s going to be perfect. I stayed within my diet goal today but I did only have popcorn for dinner. Not ideal, but realistic.
The thing I out right changed was the reading. I wasn’t doing it because I was justifying that I do a lot of reading, it’s just not measured by book pages. But for the sake of intentionality, checking off a box I didn’t complete due to mental justification is not something I want to get into the habit of. So I’ve changed the reading goal to a goal of “intellectual pursuit” which is what I was justifying initially. But now when I check it off I’ve been honest.
I booked the hotel and plane for my professional development training next month so now I have something to look forward to and work toward which is always a good motivator for me. All very exciting things!
