a list of fictional characters whom i wholeheartedly believe are bisexual (+some explanation)
now, i usually operate off of the policy 'assume bi unless proven otherwise' when it comes to fictional characters, but these are ones that nothing you do can convince me they are not bi
~harry potter; how can you read the books and NOT think this
~ginny weasley; girl likes girls. what more can I say. ig i just also love bi-husband/bi-wife as a ship
~jeff winger; mans clearly likes women but also is a little bit too obsessed with other men's bodies and lives in general for there to not be something. i am a stout believer in jeff x doctor rich. (i could write an entire essay analyzing him as a character but moving on)
~tony stark; semi-canon anyways but like?? have you Seen the man
~loki laufeyson; canon but worth mentioning bc didn't all of us always know it?
~chloe decker; even though she and lucifer are sickeningly in love with each other, seeing him being so open about his sexuality early in their friendship def made her more comfortable about her own
~peter parker; yes, every single interation. tobey!peter had a crush on harry osborn AND mary jane, andrew!peter is basically confirmed, and tom!peter def had his bi awakening through thor
~dean winchester; i don't even like/watch spn but GOD even i know it
~max mayfield; even though i am 100% lumax i know deep in my heart that max and el kissed after they broke with with lucas and mike SPEAKING OF WHICH
~mike wheeler; do i need to explain
~lee cheongsan; he and suhyeok should have been endgame but i love onjo and so does he still
will be extended in the future!!

I watched Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse today and these are my unfiltered thoughts:
- God it's beautiful
- also the soundtrack just worked so fuckng well
- I love love LOVE how Gwen's universe is animated. All those soft pastels oh my god. I was caught off guard - it was just stunning 😭😭😭
- love that they had Gwen in the band and the beginning with the drums accompanying her narration - and the drums followed Gwen throughout the movie!!!!
- hope the bandmates show up in the next movie. They seemed cool. I am assuming the girls talking to Gwen were Em Jay and Glory
- liked the glimpses we got of Gwen's and her Peter’s friendship
- liked the scene with Gwen and her dad 'can you stop being a cop for a moment'
- as a whole I really loved Gwen in this
- I love Rio!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, so much ❤❤❤ I was 100 percent full on crying in the scenes between her and Miles - yes, I do cry easily but still, emotional stuff. (I might also have a crush on Rio shhhhh)
- the Spot in the convenience store was a fun scene
- I didn’t really care for the mix of live action and animated. I can see it being fun for some people but it did kind of take me out of the movie. Preference thing.
- Miguel is an interesting antagonist. He's destroyed a world, and he lives with that guilt. I don’t blame him for being hostile to Miles - although Miles didn't get bitten by that spider on purpose so it seems kinda unfair. They probably shouldn't have told Miles about his father’s upcoming death tbh
- Pavitr Prabhakar is an absolute delight!!!! And I'm glad that he and Hobie are besties!!!
- I really liked Jess Drew's design. Very distinctive. That said, in my opinion, she was kind of a flat character - especially since she was so prominently advertised. I think the problem is that Jessica Drew's main themes in the comics are not guilt, loss, and responsibility. Well, at least not in the 616 universe, which is the one where we saw her get pregnant.
- Which brings me to...I didn't really like the whole idea of every Spider person having the exact same Canon where someone else's death is what made them a hero. I don’t think that's really true for Jessica Drew or Cindy Moon or Matt/ie Franklin or Anya Corazon, so this also kind of just fell flat to me. Which is a shame because it's part of the movie's framework, but I was just completely unconvinced
- I also still think it was unnecessary to give Jess a husband - especially since he's never seen and plays no role in this movie whatsoever.
- I loved Mayday Parker!!!!!!!! She is the cutest thing!!!!! Squirmy, happy, active baby!!!!!! Awwwwwwwwww 💕💕💕
- was a little sad that there wasn't more Mary Jane Watson, but this movie is bursting with characters so not surprising
- Miles being sent to the wrong universe and his uncle still being alive there 😮😮😮
- Miles' counterpart is a villain!!!! SCREAMING!!! OH MY GOD!!! That was so much fucking fun!
- am excited about the upcoming sequel and this movie (despite my criticisms) is definitely a fave!!!!

Like a guy that comes home in his sensible SUV, gives a hello kiss to his wife and two-point-five kids. Clint smells like wet dog and smoke.
He should probably tell Bucky not to joke like that. That it’ll only make the sting worse when the clock runs out on how long they can keep this whole thing up. But Clint is a little selfish and a lot tired, so he just kisses the strange look off Bucky’s face instead.'
AKA Clint is slow sometimes, and stubborn always. Good thing Bucky's patient. This is for Anon who asked for hurt/comfort. I think I did alright on the comfort, at least.
the answer is always yes (ao3) - svgurl410 steve/tony T, 1k

The Match-making Bench (ao3) - lilyfarseer clint/phli T, 4k

As he's walking through SHIELD, he overhears someone talk about how they had a bench magically appear in their favorite sitting spot. He meets the guy again when they and the Black Widow go on an op together that result in Agent Barton becoming injured. To keep Barton in the present, Phil askes him about his bench. Barton asks him to a coffee date instead. Well, sort of. More like Romanoff told Barton he had to take Phil on a coffee date before showing his 'special spot'. Phil is now intrigued. I have so many conflicted thoughts like
Yeah the movie was on fire and the beginning was just so hard to watch. Poor Peter.
But I'm confused about if Osbourne is there from before he was killed and Doc Octopus is also there from before he was killed
THEN WHY COULDNT GWEN BE HERE FROM BEFORE SHE WAS KILLED !!
I get that this was Tom's movie and not Andrew's but can you imagine if they had not only Tom trying to do good by the villains and save them but IF ANDREW HAD A STAKE IN IT TOO BECAUSE HIS GWEN IS ALIVE AND JUST GETTING HER HOME WOULD MEAN SHE DIES AGAIN LIKE NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
And if the villains and Andrew and Tobey were pulled then shouldn't the Aunt Mays be there as well
And Kirsten Dunst !
Overall I kind of like the redemption arc they had with the villains even if most of them had it forced onto them rather than choosing it willingly
Although I dont want to dwell too much on the many implications like for example apparently we do not stick to whatever happened happened because these villains were sent back to their universes and they were cured so .. not villains anymore so that means that they won't fight or die anymore. Meaning what exactly for their universes I dont know... and on the other hand Harry and Gwen are still dead so ... make of that what you will..
But still it made for some seriously - and surprising - character beats and development. Coming from a superhero movie that's worth noticing
And most of them coming from Andrew, easily the MVP of the movie. Man his Peter was just *chef's kiss* it really shows and emphasizes what we lost when TASM was cancelled
The raw emotion whenever Gwen was present in spirit. In BOTH scenes. Man I was crushed when he confirmed she's still dead. You can see it still hurts and he just effortlessly makes us feel it too. Instantly. Andrew deserves a nod for his acting there
Actually we really need to recognize the skill there because he spent like a year or so telling the world that NO IM NOT IN THAT MOVIE NOBODY CALLED ME ABOUT IT I DONT KNOW NOTHING BOUT IT and we believed him !
Also it's a bit awful to say and God knows she wouldn't want him to stay single but Andrew being still single because he's still not completely over Gwen was kind of fitting. I think it would have lessened the impact if he'd said he was with Shailene's Mary Jane. Really him being single was the best way for everyone (see next point)
Also wow I can't believe they let him say so many of these innuendos and hints at him being the most open and bisexual of the three Spidermen. He really got the last laugh and I hope he had the time of his life doing it
Him being the most effusive and hugs all the way and oh um let me get like really close to you Mister Older Peter Parker let me get behind you... like that ... and get like ... this close and I can hug you and get some physical male contact ... um yeah under the guise of cracking your back. Real subtle
It's nice to also get some update on Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane. Still messy haha but they look like solid.
The tiny references to Harry noooooo
And then Andrew just refrains from speaking about his Harry !!
I think on the other hand that its a bit sad that Tom was a bit overshadowed by such an assembly of characters from the SM lore. Tom is a gifted talented actor and I'm 100% sure he's totally capable of carrying a movie the likes Tobey and Andrew had. So I can't really understand why Marvel decided that his movies always needed some additional "backup"
Let's face it. Most people - a large part at least - wanted to see this movie because of Andrew and Tobey. They hold THAT kind of power. Marvel clearly bet on that holdover they still have. I just think it's just a bit disappointing for Tom because he's almost reduced from THE lead to one of the leads in what essentially becomes an ensemble movie.
I clearly did not expect Andrew and Tobey to feature so prominently or to have such extended roles. I thought Strange would pull them at the very end in a cameo sort of way. Like they kept saying no I'm not in it please stop asking and I thought well maybe they have not been called YET. Maybe they'll get a call very late for a shoe-in at the last minute. When they were in fact in more than HALF THE MOVIE ! When they DID in fact get the call and YES THEY WERE IN THE MOVIE. AND NOT JUST FOR ONE SCENE
Similarly it was not worth speculating so much on MJ or Ned because they were even more reduced in importance than Tom was. Luckily the relationships are still strong but MJ falling was clearly for Andrew more than it was about MJ or Tom.
And Ned having magic powers is just brushed off I guess
And him betraying Peter - they even threw some foreshadowing line - just didn't happen
The ending though was very good. While Andrew didn't have the chance to have a real good epilogue, this one here reminded me a lot of Tobey's original ending which was both quietly understated but hopeful at the same time. Here Tom plays it marvelously with MJ and Ned and you can't help but feel that yeah it's going to be OK. Eventually. At some point. So to me that's a wonderful way to cap the trilogy. Can't say that the MOVIE feels like a finale but the ending, yeah. They nailed it
And of course Marvel is gonna find a way to ruin it by scheduling 10 more Spiderman movies. I wish they could actually stop that. It just ruins the emotional impact.
Overall I'm kind of sick of Marvel. There's really a point where too much becomes too much.
But this was wild and really I'm not gonna hide that seeing Tobey and Andrew felt really good. Their presence was 99% a given and I'd seen some stuff like yesterday *I got so angry* but I really tried to refrain from any kind of social media and spoilers and rather than IF they were there it was the HOW they were there that I got to really enjoy
Oh and I have to say it. Haven't seen Homecoming nor Far From Home looooool
Oh yeah and one more thing but Michael Giacchino paying homage to the other composers by writing in Danny Elfman and James Horner in his own composition was just aaaaaaaah so good to hear. Electro's theme from Hans Zimmer was also there. On the other hand I can't remember if Spidey's theme from Zimmer was there too ... glad I didn't listen to the soundtrack in advance because that would have spoiled everything

how would you rewrite spideychelle in ffh and/or hoco?
I’ll answer this one with this ask:
I was reading your answers and... why is zendaya not mary jane w?? when you said it i never really thought about this because i was more excited about infinity war and the avengers but now... its the last spiderman movie and we know nothing about her character? i thought she was supposed to be something new and big like z said? whats going on???
Well, first of all, I would give Zendaya the original title of Mary-Jane Watson, I still believe it was racist not to give her this position. From what I understand, there was a rumor going around (2016) that the reason they didn’t give her the MJ title is because Stan Lee had it contracted that they couldn't race swap Mary Jane or Peter Parker, so they changed her name to Michelle Jones and made a different character while treating her as their version of what is supposed to be a homage to the comic character. The thing is, Marvel fought Sony really hard to get Peter into the MCU (in their own terms), so why not offer the lead lady the same treatment? I’m pretty sure they would do it for Gwyneth or Elizabeth Olsen. Also, the rumor doesn’t make sense because Stan Lee himself said this about the situation: ‘If she is as good an actress as I hear she is, I think it’ll be absolutely wonderful’
Gwyneth Paltrow is Pepper Potts and her character is called Pepper Potts. Scarlett Johansson is Natasha Romanoff and she’s called Natasha or Black Widow. Natalie Portman is Jane Foster and the character is called Jane Foster. Why change Zendaya’s character?
‘She's not Mary Jane Watson. She never was Mary Jane Watson. She was always this new high school character, Michelle, who we know there's an 'M' in Michelle and an 'M' in Mary.’ - Kevin Feige.
‘She’s not Mary Jane, she’s this weird girl.’ - Tom Holland.
In every interview, I feel second-hand embarrassment for her when the interviewers ask about character development for Michelle and she has to make mental gymnastics to answer and every time the convo comes back to romance and Peter; how Peter makes her feel, how she behaves around Peter, how Peter’s life is, how her character revolves around him. Even if Zendaya wanted to play the ‘I’m not like the other girls’ quirky loner girl, she could’ve been Mary Jane with that personality too. And what I’m going to share next is just my opinion and nothing is confirmed (just making sure because some people lack common sense lmao) I believe they fooled Zendaya and told her she created this original revolutionary character for girls, where Zendaya in almost all interviews states that ‘it’s ok to be weird, to not be like the other people and it’s fine to be’ etc, etc. But the thing is, that individualism and character traits she’s putting into the character don’t really matter because her character was treated as a love interest only. She couldn’t explore that individual part of her character because she’s written as ‘Peter’s observant’ friend and that is not a trait. Look at what they actually made her believe:
"My character is not romantic," Zendaya replied when asked if she would romance Peter on-screen. "My character is, like, very dry. Awkward. Intellectual. And because she's so smart, she just feels like she doesn't need to talk to people."
"I was lucky because they already kind of wanted to re-create the character and turn her into a new version of what I think maybe the original Mary Jane character represented, and just do it in our own way in this Marvel Cinematic Universe." - Zendaya. (Well, the MCU also has their own version of Peter Parker and they don’t call him Perkin Park; a homage to Peter Parker lmaoooo)
She went there thinking she would have a badass intellectual female character only to end up being the love interest without background, development or storyline. Let’s for a moment compare her to one of the extra characters, like Betty (no offence lmao) or some other decathlon kid; what’s the real difference between her and them? An intellectual is a person who engages in critical thinking; Betty and the other kids are like that too given the kind of school they attend. Awkward? All kids are like that. Smart? lmaooo same as before, they’re in a school full of smart people. She knew Peter was Spider-Man and that makes her special? She said she wasn’t even 100% sure about it and was surprised when Peter confirmed LMAO Betty was suspecting this in FFH, some of his classmates knew something was going on with him to the point one of them thought he was a male escort. There’s no real difference except that she’s playing Peter’s girlfriend.
And I happen to think all of this is because fans don’t care about that development or the fact that a black character could be a lead lady with an interesting plot (just like they did with Tessa Thompson in Thor, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, etc). She’s been playing this character for 4 years and Michelle has 0 character development, no storyline, no background. How is that something they could use as a way to bring depth into the character? They can’t, because they didn’t actually care about the things Zendaya mentioned, they wanted her stardom and popularity to boost the movie. The fact that people started shipping her with Tom Holland helped to that reputation and promotion.
how would you rewrite spideychelle in ffh and/or hoco?
I would do exactly this: MCU’s what if’s + Michelle Jones is Nick Fury’s niece. Now, THIS is an interesting storyline, where a teenage girl is Fury’s niece, not exactly an agent but someone with a vast knowledge of espionage. This would explain why she was stalking Peter without taking away the fact that she might have a little crush on him and this line;
MJ: I don’t really have much luck when it comes to getting close to people. Um… so I lied. I wasn’t just watching you ‘cause I thought you were Spider-Man.
would’ve been more interesting with that plot in mind. This with the fact that Fury is probably training her to be an agent or to be the next director of SHIELD in the future, not only this allows her to form a much deeper connection with Peter (who is Spider-Man and struggles with a double life and responsibilities) but it would give her character depth, and a particular insight that the other spider-man girls didn’t have (this would attribute to the ‘not like the other girls’). This could’ve been done without removing the personality traits Zendaya wanted in Michelle.
Tumblr media
Fury was involved in the second movie and this would allow their weird contract to keep someone from the avengers or related to them in the movies without having to make Happy or any others participate in them. If they wanted an original character they would’ve given her a better position in it but they didn’t, the real reason they changed her name is because dudebros and extreme comic fans couldn’t stand the thought of having a black girl as a female lead in a Spider-Man movie. They wouldn’t dare to ruin their perfect comic book MJ image, which, btw, Zendaya could’ve pulled off as well.
As Kevin said;
‘And then I think it leaked that she would be playing MJ and then it became a whole headache for Zendaya to have to navigate. It was never a big, 'Oh my God, it's a big reveal!' There are big reveals in the movie. That's not one of them’ - Kevin.
Why should it be a headache for her? Why didn’t they fight for her character instead of avoiding the real problem? lmaoo this is clearly Marvel having fear of a big backlash that shouldn’t exist in the first place. Her skin color shouldn't be a big thing that she has to deal with or navigate through.
Tumblr media
This could even allow her character to have a disney+ series to explore more about her and Fury’s family. I hope that No Way Home gives her character more screen time in terms of her independent development but as I’ve said before, I highly doubt this is possible if NWH is the last standalone spiderman movie in the MCU.
You have Zendaya wishing to see a black Mary Jane;
Zendaya would love to see a black Mary Jane, even if she doesn't play her. "People are going to react over anything, but of course there's going to be outrage over that because for some reason some people just aren't ready."
You see this, along with Laura Harrier thinking that she was afraid Disney wouldn’t allow her to be in the same movie as Zendaya because she believed Disney would never handle two black girls in the same movie and still think there’s nothing wrong with the way they handled things? Only because of the typical opinion: ‘these are high school sweethearts, she’s only there to be a cute character and they already have too much diversity in the cast, it’s not that deep’ lmao
Btw, read this, it’s worth reading: Michelle Jones: A Disrespect to Zendaya And The Mary Jane Character?

Ugh yeah I was obsessed with the OG spiderman films growing up but I never really liked Mary Jane and rewatching them in later years I absolutely can't stand her or theyre relationship. That's why I never got the "zendaya isnt mj" discourse because despite her being majorly underdeveloped she's still more interesting and nowhere near as annoying. Its clear dudebros just want a stereotypical popular hot white redhead that peter gets despite being a giant outcast so they can project onto him lol
YES, I agree 100%.  MJ in the OG franchise was a little annoying and nagging tbh  lol.  She was always mad at Peter for some reason lol.  I mean, I understand why she was so upset, especially when Peter had such demands on his life and wasn’t telling her who he was at first.... But I just felt like their relationship was kind of toxic towards the end lol. Peter & MJ’s relationship in the MCU franchise seems way more realistic as far as crushes go.... Things don’t always get said in the most smooth way... you’re kind of nervous/awkward around each other...etc.  But I at least feel like they are on the same page. The fact that MJ knows already up front that Peter is SM is also a good thing (let’s see if that changes in the third film - yikes lol!).
Its clear dudebros just want a stereotypical popular hot white redhead that peter gets despite being a giant outcast so they can project onto him lol
Yea, exactly...  🙄

Spider-Man: Going Big #1 (Story 3) Thoughts
Tumblr media
...er....mixed feelings.
Okay so I feel your enjoyment and appreciation of this story depends upon how you feel about Larsen.
I don’t like him.
I don’t like most of his art.
I don’t like most of his writing.
I don’t like him much as a person.
And so consequently this story being written by him celebrating his own return rubs me the wrong way.
It’s not even like his contributions to Spider-Man lore are all that significant. His biggest claims to fame was being the guy who gave Venom bigger teeth and a tongue which other people drew better, co-creating Cletus Kasady (not even Carnage, Kasady) and being the guy who followed up McFarlane.
Larsen of course has a fanbase, a significant one at that and is one of the original 90s superstar IMAGE artists so it makes sense why the issue be promoted on the basis of his work.
But...you can see why they made his story a back up and Conway’s the main story.
Namely because there isn’t much story here.
It’s not...awful exactly. Spidey action+Spidey banter+Spidey intelligence is great to see and depicting him as resourceful and prepared but making one mistake is a very human Spidey moment.
It’s just that not much is happening here.
The MJ moment also irked me. I’ve said before it’d be healthier if MJ wasn’t just 100% supportive and understanding all the time, she should be allowed at times to get pissed off and frustrated. I think right now the reason she is written as so loving and understanding is because we had such an extreme in the opposite direction for so long.
That being said Larsen depicting her that way has some baggage to it. First of all he has her say Peter delivers one crushing disappointment after another. A playful jab not to be taken seriously?
You can interpret it that way for sure but I doubt Larsen intended it that way. And my rationale for that leads into the second problem, Larsen has been on record as disdainful of the marriage and of MJ’s jobs as a model.
So I think he was throwing shade which further makes him unpleasant in my eyes.
Read this if you are a Larsen die hard but otherwise skip it.
BTW...why was this called Going Big in the first place?
P.S. Larsen draws the best rendition of Mary Jane in his career.

I saw on your Twitter about your love of Spider-Man ships, and I was wondering if you could expand on them? I know about Peter/MJ and Peter/Gwen, but that's about it. (And maybe Peter/Liz? Idk if that's just an MCU thing or not.)
I love, love, love the women of Spider-Man and I think 616Spider-Man has some of the best love stories and some of the best romanticchemistry in comics. PeterGwen and PeterMJ are the big ones, along withPeterFelicia, but he’s had a number of relationships over the years – CissieIronwood (Marvel Team Up vol1 #80-81, #90, Annual #2), Marcy Kane, Deb Whitman,an implied casual hookup with his neighbor Bambi, a thing with his work wife, reporter Joy Mercado – okay this one didn’t actually happen-happen,but it happened in my heart, and they did kiss. I love her and will refer toher as his work wife forever. But let’s start at the beginning, since you askedabout Liz Allan. PeterMJ and PeterGwen are considered the big Spider-Man lovetriangle, but Peter was involved in plenty of romantic drama before either MaryJane or Gwen was ever introduced on the page. One of the big things I loveabout Spider-Man are how, even after the romantic relationships are over, theseries lets its female characters continue to have big roles in Peter Parker’slife, and that’s the case with both Betty Brant and Liz Allan, the leadingladies of the original Spider-Man love triangle. PeterLiz is athing, although it’s very different from the way the MCU portrayed it, so let’sstart there.
Liz Allan: Liz is one of the longest running Spider-Mancharacters and one of the few to debut in Amazing Fantasy #15 along with Peterhimself, Flash Thompson, Aunt May and Uncle Ben. While Peter initially had acrush on Liz, who was at the time dating Flash Thompson (everyone in theSpider-Man friend group has dated everyone at one point or another), Peter soongot over it when he met J Jonah Jameson’s secretary Betty Brant – only for Lizto develop a crush on Peter after. She openly flirted with him, causingtensions between Peter and Betty and Peter and Flash both.
Tumblr media
(Amazing Spider-Man #17)
Liz faded out of the picture for a bit after confessing her feelings to Peter at their high school graduation in Amazing Spider-Man #28, only to make her return in Amazing Spider-Man #132, when Peter encounters her wandering the streets exhausted and troubled over her step-brother, Max Raxton, the Molten Man, a one-time supervillain who would later reform.
Tumblr media
Liz later met Harry Osborn at Betty Brant’s wedding and the two quickly fell in love and got married. (Everyone in Spider-Man has been involved with everyone in Spider-Man.) They have one son together, Norman Osborn Jr. They probably should have thought on that name a little more. (Harry has a second child with a woman named Lily Hollister.)
Tumblr media
(Amazing Spider-Man Annual #17 – everyone in Spider-Man has also made out with everyone in Spider-Man, regardless of relationship status.)
Peter and Mary Jane even lived in the same building as Liz and Harry for a while, up until Harry’s death (long story – he got better). Liz took over Oscorp in the wake of Harry’s death, briefly had a relationship with Daredevil’s Foggy Nelson, and eventually became CEO of Alchemax. Recently, she and Harry got back together in Amazing Spider-Man #789.
Tumblr media
Some Liz issues:
Amazing Spider-Man #1-28: Liz has moments scattered all through the high school years, including ASM #6, where she develops a crush on Spider-Man, ASM #17, where she schemes to get Peter to attend a meeting of the Spider-Man fan club, ASM #25 when she first meets Mary Jane, ASM #26 where she breaks up a fight between Peter and Flash, and ASM #28 where she confesses her feelings for Peter.
Webspinners #9: A more modern Spider-Man high school flashback, Peter finds himself in trouble when he accidentally ends up with both Liz and Betty believing they’re going to prom with him. An excellent look at how smothered and trapped Liz felt as a teenager.
Amazing Spider-Man #132-133: Liz makes her reappearance.
Amazing Spider-Man #153: Liz asks Harry out, starting their relationship.
Amazing Spider-Man#166: Liz and Harry announce they’re getting married.
Amazing Spider-Man #172-180: When Liz is arrested for attempted robbery, she temporarily leaves Harry, believing herself no good for him.
Spectacular Spider-Man #85: Liz announces she’s pregnant.
Amazing Spider-Man #260-263: Mary Jane and a heavily pregnant Liz are kidnapped. Harry, in an attempt to rescue them, ends up captured as well. Later, Liz gives birth to her and Harry’s son.
Spectacular Spider-Man #178-184, #189-190, #200, #204: The Child Within/The Harry Osborn Saga. Haunted by his father’s evil legacy and poisoned by the belief that Peter killed his father, Harry spirals back into the Green Goblin and Liz’s family falls apart. The Child Within (Spectacular Spider-Man #178-184) is one of my favorite storylines of all time, a truly haunting read. Content warning for childhood abuse, including childhood sexual abuse, not of Harry but definitely paralleled against Norman’s abuse of Harry. In #189-190, Harry kidnaps Liz, Normie, and Liz’s stepbrother Mark. Spectacular Spider-Man #200 is the death of Harry Osborn, and in my personal opinion one of if not THE most stunning comic book issue of all time. In #204, Liz and friends receive Harry’s video will.
Peter Parker #75: Norman Osborn returns from the dead and threatens Liz. Also has some good Liz&Flash content.
Marvel Knights Spider-Man #7: Peter and Liz attend Midtown High’s reunion.
Amazing Spider-Man #581-582: Harry Osborn, returned from the dead, attempts to right some wrongs for Liz.
Amazing Spider-Man #789, #799-800: Liz and Harry rekindle their romance, only to have their children kidnapped. Cards on the table: I hate this story arc and think it’s terrible! But I do love every panel with Liz in it, so, that’s the toss up.
Liz has also made some recent appearances in Eddie Brock’s Venom series.
Betty Brant: Like Liz, Betty’s one of the longest running Spider-Man cast members. The title of Spider-Man’s first girlfriend is commonly and erroneously granted to Gwen Stacy, but Peter actually first dated Betty Brant in 616. First appearing in Amazing Spider-Man #4, Betty worked as J Jonah Jameson’s secretary and she and Peter quickly became close.
Tumblr media
(Amazing Spider-Man #7 – another common error is assuming Peter’s always been awkward/shy around girls. “Nothing, baby… for at least an hour!” Smooth.)
Tumblr media
(Amazing Spider-Man #11)
Betty and Peter’s relationship wasn’t without its own issues, though. Betty was jealous of Liz’s flirtations with Peter, but things really came to a head when her brother, Bennett Brant, was murdered. Betty blamed Spider-Man for his death, and Peter felt that this meant he could never tell her his secret identity. They still continued the relationship, complicated by the appearance of Ned Leeds, a reporter for the Daily Bugle who was also interested in Betty. Though she loved Peter more, Ned seemed to offer Betty the stability she craved. After his high school graduation, Peter planned to propose to Betty (yes, at age eighteen, with a part time job, and still living in his aunt’s home, he planned to propose, because Peter Parker LOVES proposing) but things didn’t go as planned.
Tumblr media
(Amazing Spider-Man #30)
After a long engagement, Betty finally married Ned Leeds in Amazing Spider-Man #156. The two left for France, where Ned was on assignment. Ned worked long hours and Betty found herself completely isolated, alone in a country where she didn’t speak the language. She left Ned and returned to New York, where her and Peter’s feelings for each other were rekindled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Amazing Spider-Man #189)
Peter and Betty’s affair was short-lived after Ned returned. While he and Betty attempted to reconcile their marriage, it continued to deteriorate, and Betty sought comfort in Flash Thompson, who had at this point become one of Peter’s closest friends. The two would have an on-again, off-again relationship for years, and through it all Betty’s remained one of Peter’s most important relationships.
Tumblr media
(Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #20)
Some Betty issues:
Amazing Spider-Man #4: Betty’s first appearance.
Amazing Spider-Man #7: Peter and Betty begintheir romance.
Amazing Spider-Man #10-11: When Betty disappearsfrom town, Peter goes after her – only for Spider-Man to become embroiled in anincident that leads to the death of her older brother, Bennett.
Untold Tales of Spider-Man #12: Betty’s backstoryrevealed, including the details of the relationship she had before Peter, andwhy his thrill-seeking disturbed her so deeply.
Amazing Spider-Man #30: Betty reveals that NedLeeds has proposed to her, and Peter plans to propose to her himself, only forthe shadow of Spider-Man to come between them.
Amazing Spider-Man #156: After a long engagement,Betty and Ned marry. Peter is the best man – I can only assume because Neddidn’t have any friends. Betty and Ned leave for Europe.
Amazing Spider-Man #184, #186, #188, #189, #193, #195: AfterMary Jane turns down Peter’s marriage proposal, he finds Betty waiting for himin his apartment, where she tells him she’s separated from Ned. She and Peterbriefly engage in an affair before Ned returns.
Spectacular Spider-Man #96, #97, #98, #100: Withthe cracks reappearing in her marriage to Ned, a chance encounter throws Bettyand Flash Thompson together and the two begin seeing each other behind theirrespective significant others’ backs.
Spectacular Spider-Man #107–110: The Death of JeanDeWolff. Betty becomes important in the closing act of this story when she’sattacked by Sin Eater, causing Peter to fly into a rage.
Amazing Spider-Man #275, #280, #283, #284: WhenFlash is framed and arrested, suspected of being the Hobgoblin, Betty’smarriage further crumbles. Twice Peter witnesses Ned be physically intimidatingtowards her, once grabbing her in the middle of the Bugle offices. Betty andFlash reunite.
Amazing Spider-Man #289, Spectacular Spider-Man #128-129: AfterNed’s death in Spider-Man vs Wolverine, Betty cracks under the stress andsuffers a mental breakdown. Flash attempts to help.
Web of Spider-Man #40-43: When Betty joins a cult(look, I love her, but she makes some bad decisions) both Spider-Man and Flashgo to extremes to get her out.
Spectacular Spider-Man #148: During the Infernocrossover, Flash and Betty are both haunted – him by a false Spider-Man, andher by the specter of her dead husband.
Web of Spider-Man #91-93: I will simply describethis story as Betty, Get Your Gun.
Daily Bugle #1-3: In this three issue blackand white miniseries, Betty’s on a case and Peter plays guard dog.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #20-22: In thewake of Civil War’s identity reveal, Peter and Betty talk about his beingSpider-Man. Also an insect lady tries to eat Flash or fill him with eggs orsomething like that. Betty continues to have her gun.
Amazing Spider-Man #583: The time Marvel put Obamaon the cover and tricked everyone into buying a whole issue of Peter and Bettyhanging out. It’s a really cute story, though, and one of my favorites forthem.
Amazing Spider-Man #665: Spider-Man’s out forblood when Betty’s the victim of a violent mugging. Also establishes Peter andBetty’s movie nights.
Venom (2011): Betty’s a major character for most of thebeginning of Flash’s Venom run, through issue #21 – Flash’s secret status asAgent Venom threatens their relationship. Also her brother shows back up! Youknow, the dead one. Comics, they do that.
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #42: I don’t like the plot ofthis issue, but it is some of the most recent Peter&Betty interaction, andthe opening scene features them at a fortune teller’s parlor and it is verycute.

The Spidey Squad
(My interpretation on how Spidey Squad would work)
Ned Leeds. The guy in the chair: Ned and Peter go way back. After the battle of New York Ned’s family had to move and conveniently they moved into the same apartment building the parkers resided in. There weren’t many children there at the time so May and Ned’s parents were thrilled to get the boys interacting. The boys bonded over Star Wars and Lego and the rest is history. Peter totally willingly told Ned that he was spiderman during their freshman year of high school. Since then Ned promised to help Peter on his spidering adventures by being “the guy in the chair”. Peter can’t imagine patrol without his guy in the chair now.
Michelle “MJ” Jones. A wealth of knowledge:  Peter didn’t meet MJ until high school. He thought she was really cool and interesting, it helped that their clubs overlapped often. He wanted to reach out and get closer but it was hard with someone who seemed so standoffish. The trio grew closer after the snap and subsequential unsnapping. During the 8 months before their school trip to Europe, Peter found himself developing quite a crush on her. These feelings finally came out at the end of the dramatic trip. The pair have been dating ever since. MJ quickly started helping out with spidey activities. She knows a little of everything, though her knowledge truly shines in Medicine and first aid which is what she’s currently studying in college. Peter tries not to think about it, or make her think about it, but he definitely would have died by now if she wasn’t around.
Betty Brant. Calm before the storm: Peter didn’t plan for Betty to find out. Ned actually spilt the beans during his Europe escapade with her. Though she says she had her suspicions that something was up for a while. Betty didn’t 100% join the group, but she stayed in close contact. She texts them when something big is going down, mainly to check if they are okay but a couple of times they didn’t know something was happening at all. Betty is also a great insight into school life, as an active member of various clubs, all official school news hits her first. Peter’s relieved to have her sleuthing skills on their side now.
Eugene “Flash” Thompson. The storm of good PR: The last thing Peter wanted was for Flash Thompson to know he was Spider-man. Well- That wasn’t exactly true. If it did happen Peter really wanted to see his face when he found out. When the world discovered that Peter Parker was Spider-man so did Flash. Peter retreated back home, torn between panic and anger at Mysterio. Ned, MJ and a surprise guest found him at home. Flash and Peter argued for a short amount of time, Flash demanded that Peter proves he’s Spider-man and says there is no way he is the incredible hero. Peters patience ran out, having just had a very bad week, He picked up Flash with one hand and yelled at him to shut up. Flash believed after that and joined the hero's side. Peter had thought Flash’s constant Instagramming was dumb- until now. Flash used that platform and pushed good PR for Spidey. That and he was the only one with a car and a Driving Permit. Peter can’t thank Flash enough for the help after his identity reveals and the pair grew to be better friends after high school.
Peter and the gang work hard, eventually finding a solution to his identity reveal and getting the world to forget that Peter is Spider-man.
Harry Osborn. A whole new type: Harry Osborn, Son of Norman Osborn. Not someone Peter expected to be friends with but college was a whole new beast then Highschool. They were roommates. Peter frequently heard rumours about the billionaire’s son, it drove him crazy (after having that escort rumour spread during Highschool) so he shut them down. Harry seemed conflicted if he should be happy for some of the rumours going away or mad that Peter stuck his nose into. A coffee hangout later and the tension dissolved. Peter and Harry had some things in common and they balanced each other out well. Harry found out about the secret identity when Peter came back to the dorm half dead after fighting the green goblin.
Mary-Jane Watson. Self-proclaimed party girl: Okay no, Mary Jane Watson was official the last person Peter ever thought he would befriend. She was the queen of the party scene at empire state, and he was a giant nerd. There was nothing in common, except Harry that is. Harry introduced Peter and Mary Jane to each other. All of this didn’t help MJ’s and Peter relationship, with the pair being at different colleges and both of their full schedules. The next thing MJ hears is about a “Mary-Jane, who also wanted to be called MJ” which Peter found funny. Eventually, Peter got to combine his friend groups and thankfully it went well, tensions chilled. Mary-Jane didn’t know that Peter=Spider-man until an avenger level threat went down. Mary-Jane had great connections around campus, not to mention an incredible amount of charisma which he was sorely lacking.
Gwendolyn Stacy. The amazing Spider-Woman: Peter ended up in a different dimension. Not what he planned for but sometimes it happens when you try to save the world. Surface level the world seemed similar to his own, one difference he noticed immediately was no Spider-man, instead, it was a Spider-woman. It was a girl by the name of Gwen Stacy. They bonded over his limited time on her earth. It was only a week but fighting bad guys together and just finding someone like him? it was amazing. When Peter finally goes back to his universe the pair promise to meet again. He didn’t expect that promise to come true so soon. The next week after he was back a new semester started at Empire state, with that a new transfer in his grade whose name was Gwendolyn Stacy. He couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t the Gwen from Earth-65. It was the Gwen that belonged to his home earth. Peter ended up befriending his earths Gwen. The pair bonding similarly to the other earth, it was like deja vu for him. The Gwen of his earth still doesn’t know about his other identity.
Peter not sure how he got so lucky in life, all things considered, that is. The start was rough but now, he’s surviving college, has a wonderful girlfriend and an amazing group of friends who supported him.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2018) - Or, what happens when you give a Black character to a Black writer
Tumblr media
Miles Morales: Spider-Man follows the exploits of a now sixteen year old Miles Morales, setting the timeline of the story far beyond his earliest exploits and his then current title, Spider-Man (2016-2017) where he is fifteen going on sixteen years old.
 The Good Stuff
Miles Morales: Spider-Man is a story focused wholly on the boy behind the mask, the titular lead, Miles Morales. The book, no more than two hundred and sixty-one pages long (unfortunately), can probably be accredited with doing something Miles’ comic book titles (Ultimate Comics, The Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Men, and Spider-Man) really couldn’t or wouldn’t bother themselves with – which is focus on Miles’ life as student at Brooklyn Visions Academy and how he interacts with the people in his Brooklyn neighborhood.
Everything important that happens to Miles happens within the confines of the Brooklyn area. Miles isn’t off globe-trotting with the Ultimates, and he certainly isn’t fighting within the central New York City area with a villain-of-the-week, and there’s not even a mention of Peter Parker – clone, resurrected, or otherwise – present in his narrative here, which makes this one of the first stories focused on Miles where Peter Parker wasn’t lording over it like an intrusive shadow.
The most pivotal conflict that pushes Miles’ narrative forward in the book is his persisting (if not misplaced) guilt over the death of Aaron Davis, who killed himself in an effort to murder his own nephew. The re-visitation of Aaron’s death opens the narrative to the odd addition of a cousin, Aaron’s son, who contacts Miles from prison in the hopes of connecting with one of the few surviving members of the Davis family. Miles torments himself with the information, uncertain if the intent behind the letter is genuine or a stranger looking to talk to another stranger.
For the most part, I like how it was handled. It paints the actions of Aaron Davis in a completely different light. Maybe in a “not as bad as one thought” kind’ve way, and I’m not particularly sure how I feel about that considering it flies in the face of what the comics establish –which is an unrepentant man with no real affection for family – but it was an interesting angle to take with the Miles/Aaron dynamic nonetheless.
Reynolds’ use of language goes to a decent length to make Miles’ life feel lived in. The attention to detail to Miles’ internal observation of his life works to Reynolds strength as a poet. The author captures the mentality of a restless teenager, drowning in his own angst (often self-imposed) without falling into purple prose or wordiness.
Brooklyn is the world that Miles lives in, so the people he talks to throughout the story deal the with circumstances of low-income areas, places people of more – I guess – “wealthy” circumstance have learned to dismiss as criminal despite the people who live there often not reflecting that.
Miles contemplates the projects where his uncle Aaron lived, the barber shop he goes to get his hair cut – where the older men recognize him as one of the more fortunate children with a chance to pull themselves out from the under violent cycle of gang and hustler life. He also contemplates the number of young and older residents who’ve been driven out of homes by the city looking to redevelop the area for white buyers. This is the kind’ve of stuff you’d read about in Milestone Comics stories for Static Shock, Icon, or Hardware.
This is the kind’ve day-to-day life stuff that Brian Michael Bendis – as a white man – were so disconnected from, Miles as a character – in the comics – might as well have lived in New York City. I can only imagine that Jason Reynolds – as a Brooklyn native – used his own experiences, to a degree, to flesh out the story he was telling.
Another element I think Miles Morales: Spider-Man gets right is Miles and puppy love. This book is probably the only Spider-Man story featuring Miles to actually give him a crush that is neither – a creepy adult [white] woman for him to mack on (Diamondback and Gwen Stacy), a Plot Twist Nazi (Katie Bishop), or a really boring version of Mary Jane Watson (Barbra Rodriguez, who unfortunately appears in his recent series).
Alicia is a character I would’ve liked to have seen more of in the story, particularly outside of the purview of Miles’ heart-eyes. She’s nothing if not a brief exploration into the expectations that come with being born to “Old Black Money” and keeping up public appearances.
Alicia’s want to stand against casual racism in the classroom is the kind of “young awakening” you see in teens who pull themselves out of apathy long enough to understand how the world functions around them, when they realize they can’t turn a blind eye to microaggressions any longer.
But, her disadvantage is trying to churn up enough support from her classmates, who honestly just want to get through the day without conflict, or don’t give a shit, that she faces an uphill battle. And when her stance threatens her position in Brooklyn Visions Academy, her parents and the expectation that comes with their family’s reputation forces her to choose between her own belief system and her future.
Miles’ affection for Alicia is cute, and watching him struggle to make a connection with her amidst what he thinks his spider sense going off-kilter and dealing with a Mr. Chamberlain’s constant interference and need to diminish him among his peers, endears me to their [potential] relationship.
Again, I really wish Alicia and Miles’ interaction, Alicia herself, had more time in the story to develop. Maybe with two hundred more pages (which could’ve knocked the page count up to 361 est.) this could’ve happened, but as it stands, what’s given isn’t bad and fairly enjoyable.
The Spider-Man content within the story is brief, and for me, that’s fine. The one thing about it that I did enjoy, when Miles donned the mask, is how Reynolds uses that persona to tackle the social structure surrounding muggings in Black communities. There’s a whole – and often misguided – unspoken rule wherein the victim cannot call out for help when being mugged.
One loses the respect of the neighborhood (if you’re into that kind of toxic masculinity) and respect of your peers. Miles, afraid that the actions that led his father and Aaron down the path of crime and hustling is genetic, is faced with a situation where he can either ignore muggers who stole a kid’s sneakers, or use his alter ego to set things right.
He does the latter, and a lot about how Reynolds approaches the sequence reminded me a lot of how Peter David (the writer of Spider-Man 2099) handled Miguel O’Hara. Miguel isn’t what you’d call a “nice Spider-Man”. When he aims to teach you a lesson, chances are, a lot of his targets are left peeing on themselves.
This is kind’ve the energy Miles uses when he utilizes the “strength of his street knowledge” on the muggers who attacked the kid. But, in the end, this really doesn’t change things. The cycle continues, and it kind’ve highlights the kind of futility Miles faces as a vigilante superhero.
 The Disappointing Stuff
Action sequences really aren’t Reynolds strong suit. I mean, writing action sequences are – in general – a pain in the ass, because a lot of it is a deliberation about how long a description needs to be, preventing things from becoming too wordy, and getting the point across without losing the audience’s interest. It’s difficult balance, one I don’t think even the best writers manage 100% of the time.
But, to his credit, I think his ability to use poetic language is a strong enough short hand that most of his descriptions don’t get lost in the soup. Additionally, because a lot of the Spider-Man sequences don’t occur until the very final climax of the story’s conflict, even when his weakness starts to show, the sequences don’t overstay their welcome.
I don’t think Reynolds really manages to marry the fantastic with the reality of systemic racism. There is definitely a way of creating a mythologized monster to represent the ugly realities of anti-Blackness as faced by Black youth within the general education system. Mythology is nothing if not one culture’s way of rationalizing or simplifying things encountered in their waking lives. But, I don’t think Reynolds manages to pull it off here.
The idea that there is a supernatural “Mr. Chamberlain” for every Black male youth across the ages isn’t a bad idea. You can some really interesting things with that – like Crossroad Blues type stuff. But, here, it’s kind’ve ridiculous – or it’s presented in such a way that the suspension of disbelief strains to such a degree that I simply don’t buy the product being sold to me.
It feels like something that would’ve been a monster-of-the-week in the first season of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Angel: The Series even had an episode where a demon stoked the fires of racism against a fair-skinned Black woman, who trapped herself in a hotel room until her dying day).
I mean, the fantastical version of Mr. Chamberlain even comes like Principal Snyder – the walking parody of the militant school authority who hates children – which is frustrating because the Mr. Chamberlain in Miles’ waking life is a proper representative of the unrepentant racist school teacher obsessed with the confederacy to a Hollywood degree.
Another sticking point: Judge still isn’t utilized in any way that makes him a character and less of a random extra that pops in and out of the narrative. I really fail to understand why writers refuses to make him and Miles friends, because at this point he needs someone else besides Ganke, the Lego obsessed non-Black character, to talk to. Honestly, the fact that Miles still lacks any Black friends his age – especially in this novel – is rather annoying.
Jefferson Davis is probably even less likeable in this story than he is in general in Miles’ comics. To be sure, he’s completely reflective of the overbearing Black father who doles out punishment with the excuse of helping his son “build character” – there are no lies detected in his characterization on that front – but his rationale is often narrow-minded and assumes bad faith on the part of his son, who is often caught in situations where he neither the aggressor or the cause of his problems.
Like, he makes Miles clean the entire neighborhood block of trash left behind by the garbage men because he dipped out of school to play superhero. Again, I get Jefferson’s intent, but it was wildly misguided.
The situation regarding Aaron’s son, Miles’ cousin, is simply left hanging. There’s no real resolution following their official meeting in the prison, which is a shame, because it brought another kind of dynamic to the story itself. It offered a particularly ripe opportunity to use Jefferson and Aaron’s past just a little more – if only for the sake of exploring the history of the Jefferson family.
It could’ve only  aided of Jefferson’s characterization and Aaron’s son, who needed more face-time in the story.  But, this also leads to the biggest issue with the young adult novel itself. How it ends.
The ending of Miles Morales: Spider-Man just kinda fizzles out. I don’t know whether it was due to time constrains (not really an excuse) – that Reynolds had to have the manuscript completed before a certain period of time – or Reynolds truly reached the end of his rope with the story and couldn’t think of any other way of ending things (other than how he did), but there’s no true resolution to the story.
The students, who’ve thus far shown the atypical apathy of a teenager toward one student being singled out by a racist teacher, suddenly rising up and protesting with Miles and Alicia against Mr. Chamberlain’s ritualistic dehumanization of Miles, is questionable. It’s idealistically something you want to see happen, but I feel like the story should’ve done more exploring of the students to really set this up.
 The Conclusion
Miles Morales: Spider-Man is a solid Miles Morales story. It’s the kind’ve Spider-Man story Miles Morales’ comic book series, past and present, should’ve been from the jump, and if Marvel was remotely interested, I could actually see a book series coming out of this (so long as the Black author(s) remain). The Spider-Man elements are few and far between, and perhaps that’s for the best. Anyone looking for superhero antics equivalent to what happens in a 19-to-20 page comic book, or a trade, should probably look elsewhere because that’s not the focus of the story.
The strength of the story is how Miles deals with the day-to-day issues of his life and how a Brooklyn-native author uses his familiarity with his home turf to do what Miles’ comic books honestly failed to do. Make Miles a part of the world he was supposed to be living in in-between his life as a superhero, which was the world of Brooklyn, New York.
Even with the shortcomings of the narrative, Miles Morales: Spider-Man is without a doubt the best story that has come out for Miles Morales in four years (like since issue #19 of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man).
This is the kind of storytelling, the kind of writer, which Miles Morales needs. But as long as Marvel continues to be allergic to hiring Black creatives for his comic book title – or anything for that matter – a milquetoast (and often inauthentic) Miles Morales is more or less what the consuming audience will be given.
If you’re a Miles Morales fan, I definitely recommend this book.

Top 10 episodes
101: Another Twist 118: The Masquerade 119: Stranger and Stranger 81: A Guest For Mr. Spider 80: The Librarian 79: Hide and Seek 92: Nothing Beside Remains 39: Infestation 34: Anatomy Class 100: I Guess You Had To Be There
tend to enjoy the ones where we get a lot about the overarching plot; i’ve only listened to most of them once at work and i get the feeling i’m missing a lot of the connections that i’d get if i relistened to everything, though some pieces fall into place just browsing the wiki and transcripts a little. jon is so... ;.; i don’t think anything’s likely to displace another twist as fave.
(oh, and did you see my message on twitter the other day? had more feels about ep22 after talking about it on discord, but after the group chat moved on i felt i maybe shouldn’t go on and on about it in other people’s space, but if you’re interested in any more rambling then, guess i wouldn’t be derailing anything posting here... since the other people who lived in the same building as martin’s flat probably couldn’t see jane prentiss, same as most entities that are invisible to most people, would martin have been able to infer that, from hearing people walk past in the hallway outside his front door without screaming or attracting jane’s attention? would martin have been worried that the worms might have gotten people anyway? he went so far as to seal the cracks round his windows in case the worms got round the outside walls, but then when he got to the archives we didn’t hear him worrying about his neighbors. while he was trapped for those two weeks, do you think he heard his neighbors walking past, and had to avoid calling out to them for help, in case drawing their attention was enough to get them hurt?)
5 Episodes that scared you the most
mostly they’re effective as horror in that i feel horrified for the characters, to some degree, but not scared as if there was a real life danger - generally find it a bit weird that people talk about ‘horror’ genre and ‘scary’ things as if they were the same when they’re so different.
still, 94: Dead Woman Walking and 70: Book of the Dead had lines that were maybe a bit too unsettling, the inscription 'Life is a current that cannot be fought. It is a march with one destination. You cannot cease your step, nor move your course, to one that skirts the journey's destination. You have already read too much.' and "The moment that you die will feel exactly the same as this one." - left me thinking about how death is real enough. we’re bodies that are only very temporarily alive. and sure a story is only a reminder, but it can leave one feeling down anyway, kinda flat and nauseous. but georgie is a good symbol of one way of getting on with things anyway - accept reality as it is and let fear burn itself out, then live for the sake of it, even we don’t all have our fear completely cauterized.
Top TMA ship(s)
well jon and martin are interesting in canon and there are some very funny plays on that in the fanart here on tumblr, and feels for the episodes where they get protective of each other... but i guess i’m about as ace as jon, bc i didn’t interpret martin’s friendliness as a crush until elias explicitly described it that way and the actors confirmed it in the Q&A. even looking back now, i can see how having a crush could lead martin to act the way he does (...or if s4 is as bad as it looks, the way he used to...) but it’s not the only plausible explanation for that behaviour. i mean people can be fond of each other and determinedly nice without necessarily feeling romantic attraction. and i honestly just want to see them get more fond and protective of each other, to have each other’s backs more effectively and appreciate each other’s efforts, whether or not the ‘crush’ is ever ‘reciprocated’ in romantic terms - tho if romance was the form that all of that came in, i’d be just as happy as if it was platonic, especially as that’d make physical comfort more likely, since it’s a lot more common than cuddly queerplatonic stuff - tho i’m not really expecting the ship to sail far in canon since we already know that ‘nobody’s going to be okay’...
(i’m getting really worried about what martin meant by ‘goodbye jon’ in the s4 trailer; that guess someone made on the discord about how maybe martin gave up his own ability to connect with people seems horribly likely. if he had to sacrifice something once he was convinced that peter ‘was right’, would he be ready to give up unreciprocated feelings for someone who wasn’t going to wake up, and wouldn’t want him even if he ever did somehow recover, someone who thought too little of him to return his feelings even if he wasn’t completely disinterested in relationships anyway? would he be ready to stop feeling so attached to a parent that hates him and always will no matter what he does, and to coworkers who were caught on tape saying that he has to accept that not everyone likes him? at that point in time, could he even believe that anyone left alive actually cared about him?)
for other ships... daisy and basira sounded interesting, again mostly because elias said one of them cares deeply about the other even though i didn’t catch anything directly between them that felt necessarily shippy beforehand.

the descriptions of the vast whale-like creature underwater, the vast space entity, and jon’s dreams of a vast entity watching everything, have me wondering whether they’re one and the same - whether ‘the eye’ and ‘the vast’ are two aspects of it, like leitner’s metaphor about the eye, hand and foot appearing unconnected to an ant, and like that old story about blind men feeling different parts of an elephant and giving contradictory descriptions of ‘an elephant’ as a result, which i heard in the context of ‘a metaphor for god described by different religions’. considering the lonely’s effect on one of the astronaughts was kinda maybe triggered by another of them having an experience with the vast (the spacesuit floating away, and passing the window), maybe ‘the lonely’ is another aspect of that creature, the way it makes people feel...? it’ll be interesting to see canon delve further into all of this.
Any Entities that Don’t Scare You?
well mostly they’re not scary as mentioned above, though i often feel sad for the characters. the flesh often gets weird enough to just leave me kinda puzzled sometimes, like ‘where is this going?’, though on a meta level i like that it’s because it’s some kind of embodiment of animal fears, not human ones.

Sophomore Year In Queens Would Include...
Tumblr media
Spoilers for Spiderman: Homecoming™ ahead. You have been warned.
Freshman Year
- Summer is over and you’re on your second year of school in Queens.
- Recap: Michelle is still your best friend and still very sarcastic, Ned is still way too into Star Wars, Peter still has a HUGE crush on Liz Allan, you still lo-like Peter aS A FRIEND YUP ONLY AS A FRIEND.
- Ned in the background: “But yesterday you stared at him for at least-”
- *Ned has been tackled to the ground.*
- But onto serious business: the story line
- Remember Evelyn from when she stuck gum in your hair in freshman year? (if not the first part is in my masterlist) Anyway she came back after summer break and now you’re legit scared to be in the same room as her. She’s all girly and disgustingly nice unless you make her angry, in which case you should switch schools. Now.
- She is now the most popular girl at school. You pissed of the most popular girl in school. What the fuck. Is wrong. With you.
- On a happier note you’re friends with Liz Allan because you met her at meetings for academic decathlon and she is a ray of fucking sunshine which doesn’t happen a lot in high school.
- Except Liz is friends with Evelyn. How did you find out?
- “Oh, hey (Name)! Meet my other friends. This is Betty, Amanda, Jane, Evelyn-”
- *High Pitched Internal Screaming For Ten Hours (Unlike Pluto Remix ft. You)*
- And Evelyn just fucking smiles at you all sweet and cute. And you excuse yourself and run out of there faster than Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Rumors spread about you like wildfire. (I wonder why? Cough, cough Evelyn, cough.)
- Peter and Ned laugh them off, especially when one rumor is about you having murdered an orphanage.
- Michelle on the other hand is pissed. PISSED. (But in her own, special way.)
- *Michelle speaking in a completely calm voice* “I will shave off her stupid hair and simultaneously tear her limb from limb in front of the entire student body while her family and friends watch her turn into a bloody pile of-”
- “hOLY SHIT MICKEY I GOT THE POINT AND I LOVE YOU FOR THAT BUT I’M EATING SO PLEASE STOP.”
- Peter starts to miss classes and decathlon and you’re worried. He also skips Friday Movie Night which he apologizes for the next day. Soon enough though, he looks so tired he forgets to say sorry.
- At lunch he stares at Liz with Ned and gushes about her or just falls asleep on the table. You have had to lift him by the hair because he tends to land face forward in his food. It becomes almost a daily task to wipe the mashed potatoes off his face.
- You are happy when Peter joins the decathlon team again, then absolutely furious when he skips Nationals anyway. When the elevator at the Washington Monument starts to malfunction, you push everyone out first, even if they have to stand on your shoulders to do so.
- The elevator is on it’s last support cable and you sort of accept death. At least your friends made it out.
-  Spiderman uses his webs to stop it from falling just in time, though, pulls you out... and goes straight to Liz to not so subtly ask her if she’s alright.
- *in your mind* “Wow, okay, go ask her if she’s fine. It’s not like I almost died just now. Not like I got everyone out first. Damn, thanks for the caring attitude, Spiderman.”
- You also start to notice Peter’s weird behavior in a different light. Since the whole elevator thing, you collected that Spiderman had a thing for Liz, which is something he shares with Peter. The sudden disappearances, the bad excuses start to come together. You aren’t 100% sure, but you’re suspicious as hell.
-  Peter asks Liz to Homecoming and you aren’t jealous at all.
- *Michelle in the background* “1.25 seconds after receiving the news that Peter asked Liz to Homecoming your countenance changed from a neutral expression to an surprisingly well executed forced smile signalling that you were trying to look happy but on the inside wanted to punch Peter for being an oblivious bitc-”
- *Michelle has been tackled to the ground*
- Homecoming was okay. Ned made you go, and you reasoned that avoiding Peter and Liz making out would make the evening at least 73.2% more enjoyable. When Peter came though, he looked like he saw ghost and ran out after saying sorry to Liz.
- You leave early because Homecoming isn’t really enjoyable to a person who absorbed the nerdy loser dome of her friends, plus you’re happier at home watching Gravity Falls and binge eating junk food.
- You were walking home from Seven Eleven after buying all the junk food you needed when Spiderman swings by. You were going to ignore it but he fricking starts to fall mid swing and doesn’t even try to use his web shooters, which scares the living shit out of you.
- You drop the groceries you were carrying and tackle him before he hits the ground.
- Update: You have skinned multiple parts of your body from tackling him and rolling on the pavement, and Spiderman seems to have fainted.
- You drag an unconscious Spiderman to your apartment? Thank god your parents are out on a business trip and your apartment is close.
- *grumbling to yourself* “That’s right, (Name). Drag an unconscious stranger to your house. I mean it is Spiderman, but he’s still a stranger. Holy shit, it probably looks like I killed Spiderman.”
- *and of course muttering to yourself like a crazy person* “Oh my god Spiderman is bleeding out on the couch. Spiderman is fUCKING BLEEDING OUT ON THE COUCH. Do I take his suit off? Is that creepy? I can’t take his mask off, right? His mask is bloody too, he’s probably got a cut there... wHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?”
- Spiderman wakes up in an unfamiliar room and a girl losing her shit.
- “Why am I on your couch?”
- “Oh I don’t know! Why are you bleeding out on my couch? Why are you bleeding out at all?”
- You rush around, trying to find paper towels and a first aid kit. He lets you take off the bottom of his suit.
- Blushing™ on your side cuz he’s half naked and ripped and on his side cuz you’re in pajamas and fuzzy slippers, wiping his chest with a bath towel. You let him wash his face in the bathroom so you wouldn’t find out his identity.
- Having a drowsy late night conversation with Spiderman.
- “So I heard today was Homecoming?”
- “Yeah, it was kinda awkward, lame and boring, so I left early. You sound young, did you skip Homecoming to be Spiderman?”
- “W-what? No! I’m not even in high school! I’m super old-well, not super. I’m not 30, I swear!”
- You have a hard time believing him because he got major voice cracks while saying that.
- “Soo, did you have a date?”
- You actually scoff. “No. I think I like this guy, and that terrifies me, but he’s in love with another girl. He actually got his dream girl to come to Homecoming, that’s kinda why I left I guess. Frankly I’m not surprised, she’s super pretty and smart, basically perfect in every way. Everyone has a crush on her. Hell, I may have a crush on her!”
- “You’re very mature about it.”
- “Thanks, I guess...”
- Inside the Spidey suit, Peter is dying to know who you like.
- “So who do you have a crush on? I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
- You consider telling him, but then remember that he sounds young, and may go to Midtown, which would be a disaster. “Not gonna happen, Spidey. I might know you in real life, so I’d better keep it a secret.”
- Liz moves away, which makes Peter act really sad for a couple of days. You planned on cheering him up with another movie night, but...
- gUESS WHO COMFORTED HIM FIRST. GUESS.
- Yeah, it was motherfucking Evelyn O’ Connor, the popular girl who hates your guts. You saw her approach Peter after class and since you’re terrified of her, you just watched from afar like a creep.
- According to Peter (when she left), Evelyn was actually “super nice” and he “didn’t know why you weren’t friends with her”.
- THIS BOI FORGOT THE TIME SHE STUCK GUM IN YOUR HAIR, SPREAD RUMORS, ETC...
- aND GUESS WHO PETER STARES AT DURING LUNCH. THAT’S RIGHT. EVELYN MOTHERFUCKING O’ CONNOR.
- *You to yourself* “The world is out to get me.”
- It just dawned upon you during the last day of school, in the middle of science that Evelyn was Peter’s new Liz, and that he has a huge crush on her now, and that he’ll probably talk about her all summer.
- You literally dropped the stack of Physics books you were carrying because... What. The. Hell.
- Let’s just say you spent a lot of time on the Stark internship to avoid Peter that summer.

My Thoughts on Spiderman: Homecoming.
This Saturday, I’ll be doing something different. Instead of uploading a short story I thought I’d talk about a movie I just recently saw. Namely this one:
Tumblr media
Before I get in deep, I wanna warn all of y’all.
I will be getting into SPOILERS for this movie.
If you don’t want to be spoiled, here’s a quick spoiler-free review: It’s great. One of the most fun Spider-Man movies I’ve seen and it is easily my favorite of all the 6 Spider-Man films (I even like it more than Spider-Man 2). So yeah, I highly recommend it.
Again, SPOILERS from here on out. If you don’t wanna be SPOILED, read no further.
-----------------------------------------------
I really can't state my love for Spider Man: Homecoming enough. It's really good and so far one of my personal favorites of the MCU (though both the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are a very close second).
Obviously, Tom Holland is an incredible talent. The previous on screen Spider-Men have been commonly critiqued for expertly portraying one side of the character and falling flat for the other side. Toby Maguire was a great Peter Parker but an awkward Spider-Man, whereas Andrew Garfield was a fantastic Spider-Man but his Peter Parker came off a bit too cool and confident. Tom Holland was great at portraying BOTH.
I also felt that this incarnation was the most relatable. Peter's eagerness to join the Avengers on another mission (to the point where he's constantly leaving voice messages on Happy Hogan's phone) is absolutely adorkable and his sheer devotion to his duties as Spider-Man is admirable to a degree. At the very least, he's taking "With great Power, there must also come great Responsibility" seriously.
And good God, when he's in peril it's actually a little tough to watch. Especially the scene where he’s stuck under the huge amount of debris and there’s no one to help him. After all, he's still a kid with only a little experience to this whole superhero gig. So when he's in true danger, danger that might actually do him in this time, it's both suspenseful and even heart wrenching to witness.
I also found Parker's friend, Ned Leed's to be a rather fun character. His constant squees of joy are rather relatable (I know I'D get excited if I knew my friend was Spider-Man). While there are moments where he comes dangerously close to being a guy Peter should stop hanging out with, he fortunately manages to never get TOO annoying and he also proves to be truly helpful as he saves Peter from the Shocker and then goes on to be a rather promising “Guy in the chair”.
The interactions with Peter, Tony, and Happy Hogan are also really good. I really like that they got Faverau back for Happy Hogan and he does a great job of portraying a grump with a complete disdain for Peter. However, he also grows to respect Peter later one. The scene near the end where Happy straight forwardly tells Peter he did him a solid by fighting the Vulture is a really touching scene that shows how much his perception of the kid has changed from the beginning.
Tony Stark is...well Tony Stark. You really think RDJ's gonna turn in a bad performance? But yeah, he's fantastic in the few scenes he's in and I appreciate that he doesn't steal the spotlight from Peter. He's there when he needs to be there, and he leaves when he needs to leave.
Flash Thompson......eeeeeeh. It's not that this is a bad character or even a bad performance. I just think it's a bit too far removed from the original character. Really, the only real similarity between Movie Flash and Comic Flash is that they're asshole bullies. Sure, Ned Leed's is nothing like his comic counterpart but he's an extremely obscure character in the comics. Flash, on the other hand, is practically one of Peter's most pivotal and most enduring antagonists.
It'd be like if they included J. Jonah Jameson and made him a young man in his 20's who rarely raises his voice and is rather supportive of Spider-Man. I dunno, I think they could've at least made Flash a Spider-Man fanboy to give him some more ties to his comic counterpart.
Peter's crush, Liz is fine. She didn't really leave that huge of an impact on me. Though I did feel sorry for her after Peter ditched her at homecoming. (Not that he didn’t have a good reason, mind you).
Alright, I honestly fought myself to keep this post from just being a Michael Keaton praise-fest and I think I did alright so far. However, I think I’m gonna stumble a little on this next part because I cannot praise Michael Keaton enough.
His performance as Adrian Toomes (AKA: The Vulture) is the highlight of the movie for me. His backstory as a blue-collar family man who, along with his cleanup crew, have had their jobs taken away from Damage Control (Hey, Comicbook reference!), is sympathetic in and of itself. It also makes Adrian a scavenger of sorts (fitting). However, Adrian Toomes has a fair amount of sympathetic qualities as well.
For starters, the major reason Toomes is an arms dealer is so his family (not to mention the families of his employees) doesn't have to suffer in poverty. He's also a benevolent boss to his underlings and only kills an employee who coldly threatened to harm his family (it's even implied he didn't intend to kill him). He's even surprisingly grateful to Peter for saving his daughter's life. In fact, because Peter saved his daughter, Toomes was actually willing to leave Peter alone....provided he leaves HIM alone of course.
Of course, this doesn't mean The Vulture is a soft villain. God help you if you continue to interfere with his business. Adrian Toomes is incredibly ruthless when he has to be and, since he's played by Michael Keaton, is downright terrifying when he gets serious.
My absolute favorite scene is the one in the car where Adrian figures out Peter is Spider-Man. You see, Adrian turns out to be the father of Liz, Peter’s crush. And as he takes them to Homecoming, Liz let’s it slip that Peter has been disappearing a lot lately. It's genuinely chilling to see Toomes' face glimmer as he slowly puts two and two together.
I also liked how they handled the Shocker. He's not 100% faithful to the character but there is definitely one element I'm glad they got right. Near the third act, Shocker actually announces that he's leaving the Vulture's crew. The job has gotten too much unwanted attention from both the feds and Iron Man. He even urges Adrian to do the same and only stays when he thinks there's a much better chance of success.
THAT is the Shocker of the comics. Yeah, he's a butt monkey with a silly costume, but he's also a career bank robber who's a veteran in the field for a reason. He always keeps a low profile, he never holds grudges, and always tries to get out a job when it goes sour. Yeah, this version of him isn't shown to be a technical genius (at least from what we've seen so far), but at the very least he's still a pro who knows when to fold 'em. I hope we see more of him in future installments.
Speaking of villains I wanna see more of, Marc Gargan (The Scorpion) is in this for about two scenes...and boy does he make good use of them! We don't know much about him, but we do know that he is bad news and is out for Spider-Blood by the end of the film. Also, in a post credits scene, he mentions "Several friends" outside who might wanna have a go at Spider-Man. I'm probably reaching here, but what if there are "Six" friends of his? Six friends that happen to be quite "Sinister"? Ah? AAAAH?
But seriously though, I really hope Marc Gargan makes another appearance in the sequel. It'd be a terrible waste if he just disappeared with not even a mention.
One more thing I wanna mention before I (mercifully) end this post: Michelle Jones....whose friends call her MJ.
Honestly, it's another Flash Thompson situation of a good character and performance (One of my favorite jokes in the whole movie is when Michelle snarks about the Washington monument being built by slaves) having absolutely nothing to do with the comics character. Michelle is a love interest. Mary Jane is a love interest. That is literally it.
This instance is even more egregious because Mary Jane Waston is one of the franchise's most iconic characters. Even regular Joes who don't read comics can easily tell you who Mary Jane is and for this movie to completely change her personality is annoying. Not helping matters at all is the fact that the Raimi films didn't get her right either so we can add "Wasted opportunity to get the character right" to the list of problems. Again, Michelle is great as her own character but the MJ stuff just annoys me.
However, that is still a blemish in what is otherwise a fantastic addition to the MCU. I’m definitely getting this one when it comes to blu-ray.

100 Days of Comics! 069/100: Spider-Man: Chapter One #1 (1998)
We start at the end and end at the beginning. Today’s selection from the box of mystery is the first issue of Spider-Man: Chapter One! Lets retell Spider-Man’s origin again again again!
So the first difference between 1962 and 1998 is that in 1998 the name Peter Parker gets a (TM) on the cover and Spider-Man gets both a hyphen and a (R).
We start with Spider-Man crying into his mask as he swings above the city. See, this is end of the issue Spider-Man, recapping his origin to himself as he thinks about how he fucked up.
If you know Spider-Man you know the drill. Left with his uncle and aunt by his parents who went off and died on him. Was spoiled and pampered by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Shunned in school for being an uncool nerd and never invited to Rolling Stones concerts. But he kept trying to make friends. Which leaves me wondering if he was the only smart kid in school. Wasn’t there a chess club or something?
Because apparently nobody in school likes him. Nobody.
Maybe its because he kept trying to invite them to radiation experiments.
Peter’s honestly sort of frightening pledge to one day make them all sorry is softened to a “but some day I’ll be a famous scientist like Reed Richards or Stephen Hawking... then they’ll all be sorry they didn’t want to be my friends!”
Anyway, he goes to the Otto Octavius radiation experiment at General Techtronics Labs.
Unlike the unsafe open air radiation experiments from the 60s, John Byrne has reconceptualized everything to be more realistic and modern. Here, the radiation experiment is sealed behind lead glass shields but will violently explode if there’s a spider in the chamber.
Hey, guess what happens?
There was a spider in the chamber and it violently explodes. And while Peter lies in the rubble of the lab, probably exposed to a lethal amount of radiation - the dying radioactive spider comes over and bites him. Which at this point seems like overkill.
This is one of the more contentious changes. Because of the spider bite, Peter survives and recovers while others caught in the lab accident died or were left with crippling injuries. The doctors even want to do a DNA scan to see if there’s anything special about Peter.
Critics have argued that surviving a lab accident that killed so many makes Peter stand out too much. And it was a very public accident.
While Peter recovers, Uncle Ben decides to buy him a new computer and the future-burglar helps him carry the box to the car. A police officer confronts future-burglar about there having been several second story jobs in the neighborhood over the last few weeks but its nothing he can hang on the future-burglar.
Peter is released from the the hospital by the end of the week and then has that thing happen to him where someone almost runs him over and he jumps out of the way and discovers he can climb walls and crush pipes.
And he realizes that the radioactive spider altered his DNA.
So what to do with this? Historically, super powered people have either turned to evil or fighting it... maybe the Fantastic Four could use a new member? WAIT I COULD EARN A THOUSAND BUCKS BY WRESTLING A DUDE? I’M DO THAT INSTEAD.
So he embarrasses Crusher Hogan in the ring (partially maybe because Aunt May wants someone to put ‘those dreadful wrestlers' in their place. Aunt May does not care for most things), earns that thousand, and makes a deal with a talent agent to enter show-biz as THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!
Good thing Aunt May had him take those art classes including lessons on making spandex costumes and silk screens. And good thing he coincidentally had invented a polymer extrusion system last fall just for fun.
So montage of Spider-Man becoming a hit in show biz. Which is an aspect I think should come up more often. Just imagine the first time Spider-Man helped save the planet and you have some guy remembering seeing him on a morning show webbing a girl up.
Peter is making so much money. But he opened a bank account under the name Spider-Man and is having his checks made out to Spider-Man which will come back to bite him in the ass big time, apparently.
And to his amusement, his classmates are going ga-ga over Spider-Man. But girls still won’t date him, even if he promises to get them tickets to Spider-Man’s show. In a rage he rips off his locker door. What’s the use of being Spider-Man if you can’t get girls to date you, he seems about to ask.
But he has a big show to do so he makes an excuse about having a test tomorrow and heads to bed early, only to sneak out. His spider-sense activates just in time to tell him someone saw him sneaking from the window and no, it was not Mary Jane. It was the Burglar! But Spider-Man is like new number who dis and ignores the tingles.
Then a montage of people reacting to Spider-Man’s show. Including Aunt May hating on him for being a show off (she doesn’t care for most things). The Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Dr. Strange, Bruce Banner and Rick Jones. The X-Men thinks Spider-Man might be a mutant. And Bruce Banner is just like “PRAY THEY WALK AN EASIER PATH THAN THE ONE FATE HAS CHOSEN FOR ME!”
And then after the show, the Burglar runs by and asks Spider-Man’s help ditching a cop as a fellow second story man.
Peter is like wah? But doesn’t stop him. The cop yells at Spider-Man but he’s like hey you do your job and I’ll do mine.
But a few hours later when Peter returns home, he discovers that Uncle Ben was shot. Some guy broke into the house waving a gun around and saying he was looking for Spider-Man.
Peter runs off and changes into his costume to get the burglar at the old Acme Warehouse.
But when he shows up, the guy is thrilled to see Spider-Man and pulls his mask off to reveal himself as the guy Peter didn’t stop after the show.
The dude says he went back to the Forest Hills house looking for Spider-Man. They could be partners!
Spider-Man beats the guy unconscious yelling about Uncle Ben. And then leaves him webbed up for the police.
And then takes his mask off to cry that Uncle Ben is dead because of him and walks sadly away from the camera reflecting that with great power must also come great responsibility. And the next time box promises that more misery for Peter next month because that’s what Spider-Man is all about. “Peter Parker finds the world is not yet done playing its cruel jokes on him.”
So the burglar going to Peter’s house specifically to find Spider-Man was also a contentious change. It doubles down on Peter’s responsibility for Uncle Ben’s death. But John Byrne thought that the Burglar traveling from midtown Manhattan to rob a house in Queens never quite worked as well as it could have. As he says in his essay at the end of the issue explaining why Chapter One.
So, the dude spotting Spider-Man coming out of the Forest Hills house, presumably following him to the show, having a good feeling about Spider-Man not stopping him for the police, and traveling back to Forest Hills to meet him there again but breaking inside the house and threatening people with a gun instead of staking out the outside.
Yup. That probably works so much better.
Or at least as well as the explanation the main continuity eventually gave that the guy was after a cash stash another criminal left in the house.
But probably not as well as the original intention that it was never supposed to be realistic. It was always a little abstract. Peter goofed up slightly by not being responsible 100% of the time and the consequences were immediate and personal. The world is a cruel place when co-run by Steve Ditko.

Multi-Fandom Canon Femslash - ["Something To Talk About" by Bonnie Raitt] [FAC]
Made for Silviasi22's Femslash Addiction Contest! Round 1: HAPPINESS. ~~~ Voiceovers are transcribed at the bottom of the description, and lyrics are linked below too! ~~~ So... pretty different vid from me here! I joined LesbianCollabs a while ago and enjoy vidding femslash ships quite a bit in general, always have, but... idk it's still been a really long time since I posted a new video that was entirely about a wlw ship/lesbian ship. And I've never vidded a multi-couples vid that was all femslash before.
Link to the contest btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5q-4crjGKE - deadline is in 2 days but as long as it is femslash or a single character lesbian being happy, and is over 40 sec long, you can still enter. ;)
I actually had the idea to vid this song back in 2007-2008 when season 4 of Grey's Anatomy was airing for the first time. Maybe it was later in 2008 when season 5 was airing that I thought of it, but I know it was before Hahn left the show. I started a fanvideo about only Dr. Erica Hahn and Dr. Callie Torres, but never finished it, probably partially because the song's too long, too fast paced, etc and they have relatively limited scenes. Anyway I know no one EVER vids them, I've literally NEVER seen them vidded lol, but that was why I vidded them in this here...
They aren't ALL couples I ship, and parts of the vid are a bit random, but I do really love most of these pairings. For some queer women I struggled with picking just one of their ships haha but ultimately decided on who would be easiest for me to vid set to this song.
This was FUN to make.
Couples: Erica Hahn/Callie Torres (Grey's Anatomy) Naomi/Emily (Skins) Karma/Amy (Faking It) Clarke/Lexa (The 100) Dianna/Christie but also Dianna/other random women (White Collar) Brittany/Santana (Glee) - most of my Glee vidding is on luvtheheavenFOX4. Haddie/Lauren (Parenthood) Alex/Maggie (Supergirl) Brenna/Greer (Chasing Life) Claire/Gretchen (Heroes) Anna/Peyton (One Tree Hill) Kerry Weaver/Kim Legaspi (ER) Emily/Maya (Pretty Little Liars) Cosima/Delphine (Orphan Black) Sydney/Maggie (Saving Hope) Nyssa/Sara (DC's Legends of Tomorrow & Arrow) Rose/Luisa (Jane the Virgin) Paris/Rory (Gilmore Girls) Lori/Hillary (Kyle XY) Stef/Lena (The Fosters) Carol/Susan (Friends)
Song: Something To Talk About Artist: Bonnie Raitt Lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bonnieraitt/somethingtotalkabout.html
Voiceovers:
Naomi's mother: People who make us happy are never the people you expect.
Dianna: Nice hat.
Naomi's mother: So when you find someone, you've got to cherish it.
Peter: You're not even on her dance card. No dancing for you. Neal: Um. She digs the hat. Peter: Um. She'd rather be wearing the hat.
Addison: Are you speaking The... Vagina Monologues now? Callie: What? Addison: I'm all for it.
Brittany: I heard a rumor that Santana plays for the other team.
Callie: You want to know if Erica and I are a... couple?
Haddie: My super-awesome best friend.
Shane: Your friend, right.
Addison: Because you seem like a couple! A really happy couple.
Sam: Pretty cool that our girlfriends are such good friends, right?
Addison: She's pretty, huh? Erica Hahn: She's beautiful.
Winn: It's not like you're into this... Maggie person.
Maggie: I didn't know you were into girls.
Max: If two girls are kissing, does that mean that they're lesbians? Haddie & Max's mother: What? Why would you ask me...? Max: Haddie and Lauren were kissing.
April: Since when are you in the Eco Club? Is that girl in it or something? The one you love? Brenna: I don't love her. But yeah she's in it.
Gretchen: Okay maybe I'm a little bit stalking you. It's just... I have a crush.
Felix: Wow, I didn't know this was a Lesbian Mixer.
Anna: You're not gay, are you?
Kerry: I happened across a copy over the weekend and couldn't resist.
Kara: I mean, do you know if she likes you?
Gretchen: People are gonna start to talk. Claire: Let 'em talk.
Sara's dad: I'm just happy to hear you had someone to care for you.
JJ: You ladies like to wriggle, don't you?
Haddie's dad: I just want to thank you for being such a good friend to Haddie. Lauren: Yeah. I mean I love Haddie.
Cosima: I just want to make like, uh, crazy science with you.
Luisa: She was wearing this tight, red dress that highlighted every curve of her body. Her breasts, her hips... Michael: Got it. Good.
Rory: You know, we sat on the beach, went to a club, we watched The Power of Myth, Paris and I kissed- Lorelai: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You watched The Power of Myth?
Lori: Oh I don't know, Hills. You wanna give it a try?
Sydney: When my husband wants to have sex with me, he throws his yarmulke on the bed.
Kerry: I am The Chief of Emergency Medicine *and* I am a lesbian!
Delphine: Je t'aime.
Brittany: I love so much.
Carol: We're, uh... We're getting married.
Stef: It's the wrong one!
Ross: As in, I now pronounce you wife and wife married?
Emily: I like girls. I like a girl. I love her.
Amy: Woo hoo!
