And once he learned how to love himself, that he, Loki God of Lies, was also worthy of love, his capacity to love others expanded exponentially to a point in which there was no other option but to make the sacrifice and be the hero in the end.
Been stewing on this for a while...
If you think Loki only "learned to care about" or "learned to love" someone "for the first time" during the Loki series, you do not understand nor actually like Loki as a character. Remember that romantic love is not the only love. Romantic love is not the most or only valid love. Ship what you want but to ignore a decade of character development in favour of your ship comes across as you lacking any kind of literacy. Remember that Loki LIES. He can claim to be in it for himself during the Thor-Avengers-Dark World era (even the Ragnarok-Infinity War era tbh), but his body language, his eyes, his TEARS tell a different story.

Loki & The Siren; Chapter Eleven
A meeting in the forest.
Fic Synopsis:
This is the story about how you met and fell in love with Loki, hundreds of years before the events in Avengers, while his family was visiting Alfheim, where you were a siren.
It is a companion piece to Lightning Over the Sea-Redux to give more insight into your past and relationship with Loki.
Tumblr media
The anticipation of your next meeting consumes you in the days that follow. Every time you pass Thor in the palace, your eyes meet, igniting the spark between you and fueling the fire of your desire. You can hardly focus on anything else, your thoughts constantly returning to him and the secret rendezvous you've planned.
You feel your heart race as you sneak out of the palace, the anticipation of the upcoming meeting coursing through your veins. The towering trees loom overhead, their branches intertwining to create a canopy that obscures the sky. The rustling leaves and the sound of your footsteps echo through the forest.
As you navigate the winding path, you can't help but wonder what awaits you. Your mind is filled with questions, hopes, and fears. The cool breeze against your skin is a welcome distraction, but it doesn't ease the knot in your stomach. You push forward, driven by the desire to see him again.
Finally, you arrive at the clearing where you had arranged to meet. Your heart is pounding in your chest as you scan the area, searching for any sign of him. The silence is deafening, and every second feels like an eternity. Then, you hear the rustling of leaves behind you, and you turn around to see him emerging from the shadows.
His eyes meet yours, and for a moment, time stands still. The tension between you is electric. You're not sure who moves first, but soon you're standing face-to-face, his warm breath brushing against your skin, the heat emanating from him enveloping you in a cocoon of desire.
Without saying a word, you reach out and take his hand, intertwining your fingers. The touch sends shivers down your spine, and you're acutely aware of every inch of your body. You lean in closer, drawn to him like a moth to a flame. The air crackles with anticipation as you stand there, lost in each other's eyes.
Despite the passion that burns between you, there's an undercurrent of uncertainty and fear. You know that this meeting could have consequences, but you find yourself surrendering to the moment nonetheless. As you stand there, locked in each other's gaze, you realize that this is just the beginning of a journey that promises to be filled with love, lust, and danger. It is intoxicating.

Loki & The Siren; Chapter Ten
Feelings confronted, plans made.

The evening chill hits your warm face as you step outside, a stark contrast to the heated atmosphere you've just left. You take a deep breath, trying to clear your head, feeling the effects of the night's indulgences. But there's no time to dwell on that; you have to find Thor.
Determined, you stride through Asgard's streets, barely noticing the architectural grandeur around you, but before long, the sounds of combat draw nearer . The unmistakable ring of swords and the low sounds of exertion from the training grounds encourage you to pick up your pace.
As you turn the corner you see Thor, shirtless and sweating, locked in battle with a training dummy. You can feel your heart racing as you watch him, the muscles in his arms flexing as he strikes with his hammer. He's so focused on pummeling the dummy that he barely notices you as you step in front of it — right as he spins to toss Mjolnir at it again.
His blue eyes widen as they meet yours while Mjolnir hurtles toward you at a blinding speed. But before he can even think to call his hammer back to him, you reach out and grab it by the handle, plucking it from its path and halting its momentum. "Why have you been avoiding me?"
"What?!" Thor is now standing in shock, mouth agape as he watches you walk over to him, twirling Mjolnir lazily. "How did you...?"
You furrow your brows at him impatiently; and hand him his hammer. "I asked first."
"You know why," he responds, his voice low and rough as he slowly accepts Mjolnir back into his possession, eyes still wide in awe. But you shake your head, needing to hear the words from him.
"I want to hear you say it," you press, your voice filled with determination.
He hesitates for a moment, glancing around at the other warriors training nearby. "Not here," he says finally, gesturing for you to follow him.
The anticipation pulses in your veins as you trail behind him into the palace grounds. Thor leads you to a secluded alcove hidden behind a tapestry depicting fierce Valkyries riding to battle. You wait anxiously as Thor takes a moment to collect himself before facing you once more.

Loki & The Siren; Chapter Nine
Magic, invitations, and a challenge well met.

As Thor pins you to the ground, your heart races with a mix of adrenaline and desire. You see something flare within his blue eyes—a reflection of the want smoldering within yours—and for a heartbeat or two, you think he might just give in.
You let out an airy chuckle from beneath him, part admiration for his skill and partly due to this delicious proximity. "You really know how to toss a girl around," Your voice dances between jest and flirtation, daring him to cross that line.
He leans in almost imperceptibly closer. "I'd like to do a lot more than just toss you around." His tone is roughened by desire but equally laced with restraint—a precarious balance.
The moment seems frozen outside time, neither space nor breath seem enough—or maybe they are too much—and then Thor withdraws quickly as if scorched by invisible flames. Standing, he extends his hand towards you and helps pull up what remains unsaid between heavy breaths.
"Well fought," comes out clipped when he should have spoken volumes more but turns away instead. Watching him stride away sends an involuntary growl rippling from deep within—why does he resist? You throw your short swords down, impaling the ground of the arena.
"I'm finding myself in need of a stiff drink or a cold lake," you announce to your friends, who have the good sense not to laugh as they see the fire of frustration alight in your eyes.

Loki & The Siren; Chapter Eight
Magic, invitations, and a challenge well met.
As the days pass, the library becomes a sanctuary of sorts, a place where you and Loki can lose yourselves in the magic and wonder of the ancient Æsir. The musty scent of ancient tomes, the quiet rustle of pages, and the warm glow of candlelight all serve to create a sense of intimacy and closeness. Under Frigga's patient guidance, your abilities grow with each passing day.
Each day, the ancient texts sprawl out before you like a map to hidden treasures, and beside you, Loki's presence is both a catalyst and an enigma. His eyes glitter with mischief as they meet yours across the parchment strewn table. There's amusement there–an unspoken challenge hanging between you.
"Concentrate," he murmurs. It's gentle but firm—a reminder that you're here for more than just study. He sits back hands clasped together neatly as if posing for a portrait, yet his gaze is anything but still or serene as he studies your face with an intensity that quickens your heartbeat.
You take a deep breath and focus on the incantation at hand. The words are more than mere sounds; they're keys unlocking doors within yourself you never knew existed. Your fingers dance over the runes, energy pulsating beneath your skin.
And then it happens: power surges forward at your command, weaving around you in shimmering threads visible only to those initiated into seiðr's secrets. A satisfied smile tugs at Loki's lips as he watches the arcane energies swirl about you - not in triumph but appreciation for the sheer force of will emanating from your very being.
The room crackles with silent electricity - potent and raw - as if all Asgard itself were holding its breath. You cast a sideways glance at Loki and find that same current reflected back to you from within his gaze.
Yet even as you delve deeper into the mysteries of seiðr and take pleasure in Loki's company, outside this sanctuary of sorcery, Thor’s presence hovers like sunlight waiting behind storm clouds—an unspoken tension exists whenever he's near. Your encounters are brief: nods exchanged in passing—each laden with meanings neither of you fully understands or wants to acknowledge openly. He seems to be everywhere but always in the background, watching you with a mixture of curiosity and something else you can't quite place.
At first, you try to ignore him, focusing instead on your studies with Loki and Frigga. But there, just beyond the periphery of your newfound joy, lingers an imposing silhouette. You spy Thor with his back often turned towards you, yet somehow inexplicably aligned to face you whenever you lift your gaze—his eyes shimmering pools of blue that hint at oceans and skies unexplored.
At first glance, it seems trivial—the way his golden mane catches Asgard's eternal light or how he unconsciously flexes his hands into fists before relaxing them again. But subtleties begin to etch themselves onto the canvas of your attention: The faintest furrow upon his brow when watching you from afar; the ghost of a smile playing on his lips when he thinks no one is looking—especially not at him looking at you.
It's not just his physical presence - though there's no denying that he's a formidable figure, all broad shoulders and rippling muscles. But, no, it's something deeper, something that speaks to a part of you that you didn't even know existed. Something you can't quite name.
You hate it.

You have spent centuries consolidating power - usually subtly - sometimes a little more brazenly. You were most recently made a Queen of the Dark Fae - but you didn’t start out that way. You were once only a siren, singing your song to sailors passing by in Alfheim, feeding on their longing for you. But it wasn’t enough for you, and you spent the past many centuries (honestly, you’ve lost count) building your powers and abilities to a level that you are not even sure of at this point. You are essentially a Goddess, here on Midgard. You’re a little scared to test the limits, but this is a comfort to you. No one will ever take advantage of you again without your consent.
But that’s another story for another day.
This is the story of how you ended up teaming up with The Avengers and meeting the man who would change everything.
Chapter One: Who the Hell is that Woman?!
Chapter Two: Was that an innuendo, Captain?
Chapter Three: Well met, your majesty.
Chapter Four: Can we keep her?
Chapter Five: Or maybe you could stay right here, and we could both get a little…' release'?
Chapter Six: Chill out, Hawkeye.
Chapter Seven: We are not people, my love. We are gods.
Chapter Eight: I’m doing my best to want you less. So don’t make it more difficult.
Chapter Nine: I can only promise right now.
Chapter Ten: How thoroughly are you planning to test me, Captain? Because I tend to use all of my skills on the battlefield.
Chapter Eleven: All this violence is a real turn-on and all, but can you please stop and explain to me what the hell is going on?
Chapter Twelve: It begins on a beautiful day in Alfheim when an innocent young prince stumbles upon a devious Siren...
Chapter Thirteen: Do you delight so much in torturing me?
Chapter Fourteen: What they mean to say is they almost fucked my entire building down
Chapter Fifteen: "I didn't realize you still cared so much, love.” “Pfff, yes you did."
Chapter Sixteen: I will make you mine on a deeper level than you ever thought possible. It is up to you if you will let it ruin you or save you.
Chapter Seventeen: I can not escape you.
Chapter Eighteen: In my experience, it is best to stay away from the green one.
Chapter Nineteen: I don’t know whether I should be impressed or terrified.
Chapter Twenty: I don't know who you think you are, bub, but you are not my friend.
Chapter Twenty-One: Do your worst, Odinson.
Chapter Twenty-Two: Why do I know you?
Chapter Twenty-Three: The pleasure is all mine.
Chapter Twenty-Four: I think I would crawl through all of Hel and back if it led me to your arms.
Chapter Twenty-Five: "Can I go now? I have a date with a pretty girl." Chapter Twenty-Six: "Could you be more vague and mysterious about it?" Bonus: Special Edition of the Daily Journal

Loki & The Siren; Chapter Six

He twists a large sword like a key in a lock, shutting down the Bifrost as you try to gather your wits and stand, brushing yourself off just for something to do with your hands. The man stares at you intently, his eyes never leaving yours. You return his gaze and reach out with your senses, trying to pick up on his feelings, but he smiles and laughs in a deep chuckle.
“Well met, Princess Una of Alfheim.” The man bows slightly. "Welcome to Asgard. The All Mother is looking forward to meeting with you, but she is running behind with preparations for the masquerade tonight. Lady Sif will show you to your rooms."
You nod to him in thanks and turn to see the sleek black Asgardian steed Lady Sif has brought to take you across the Rainbow Bridge. He is the most beautiful horse you have ever seen, and you stop to stroke his mane and thank him before attempting to mount him. He bows in response and kneels so that you may climb onto his back more easily. Sitting in the saddle feels less awkward than you assumed it would, and you are grateful that you did not make a fool of yourself yet, as you haven't had much experience riding horses.
"You're a natural," the gatekeeper smiles up at you. "I've yet to see Ársæll bend the knee for anyone."
"Ársæll?" you stroke his mane. "Are you an abundantly happy steed?"
"He is a volatile and, at times, violent creature," Sif replies curtly. "But it seems you have a way with those."
You look to Lady Sif, sitting on her snow-white mare. She is beautiful and stoic, inviting you to challenge her.
"Yes, that is true," you laugh off her implied insult. "I hope I have passed your test?"
Sif cracks a smile at that and nods, turning her mare to head toward Asgard over the Rainbow Bridge. She looks back over her shoulder as if to ask if you are coming, so you turn your steed to follow, but Heimdall stops you. He speaks low enough so that Sif does not overhear.

Chapter Twenty-Six: Could you be more vague and mysterious about it?
In which we spend some time in the past before launching into a wildly uncertain future.
The Winter Soldier made his way into the Blue Raven, his ears drawn to the sweet, familiar notes of a melody that seemed to resonate within him. As he walked deeper into the club, he felt something shift within his mind, as if a door had been opened, letting in light and memories long forgotten. Clad in a black suit and carrying a briefcase that housed the dismantled rifle he had just used to shoot the president in the head, he blended in well enough. As long as no one looked too closely, to see the wildness in his gaze, the emptiness of his soul. He sat at a table near the back of the club, his hand running over his newly shorn hair. Even that felt familiar, though he could not fathom why. His locks had been shoulder-length for as long as he could remember, or what little he could remember. They had cut his hair to make him a more believable businessman, assuming the longer hair would draw more attention than his chiseled features. But they were wrong about that.
The singer's voice was like a balm to the Soldier's anxieties, smoothing the rough edges that threatened to tear at the calm her song brought. He was entranced by the slow sway of her hips, the hypnotic fringe of her dress swishing with each movement. Her lips, a portal of blood-red, promised as much pain as pleasure. But it was her eyes that captured him, for they looked into the very depths of his soul, stirring memories of a man long buried beneath the frozen heart of the Winter Soldier.

"You are a goddess!" He pulls you in for a kiss, but you turn your head too quickly for him and make it a hug instead.
"I know! And you're welcome!" you grin and show him the plate of Mickey Mouse pancakes. "Pancakes?" He puts his arm around your waist and guides you over to the table of shocked-looking Avengers.
"Let it be known that I am still very upset with this woman for keeping secrets from me for so long, but that she is still my favorite person on the planet. Don't tell Pepper." Tony states, squeezing your hip. "If any of you are feeling like shit this morning, I recommend letting her slap you. Though the other way is better."
"What's the other way?" asks Bruce.
"Well, it's a lot more fun, especially when she uses her…." You slap your hand over Tony's mouth so he can't finish his sentence.
"Really, any sort of physical contact will do. Though a good slap makes quick work of it," You squeeze his cheeks so his mouth puckers like a fish, "and is a good excuse to slap this handsome face." He brushes you off with a laugh.
"Thank you again. We still need to talk later, though." Tony sits down to dive into his favorite childhood pancakes. "And thanks for the Mickey cakes. Thanks for remembering." He smiles up at you in appreciation. "I haven't even thought of them in years."
You lean down and give him a friendly kiss on the cheek, sitting down next to him to dive into your own pile of pancakes just as Thor enters the room behind you. Natasha kicks your foot under the table as if you hadn't noticed the energy in the air change moment he stepped into your presence. You make eye contact with her and smile in acknowledgment.
"Good morning, Avengers! My lady, may I set my hammer next to you, or do you plan to walk off with it again?" Everyone laughs, but you sense a bit of seriousness in his tone. He is concerned for his precious hammer, and it is, quite frankly, kind of adorable.
"I would not dream of it, dear Prince. Come feast with us! I made pancakes." You grin. "I promise, your hammer is safe with me."
"Is that an innuendo?" Steve asks, smirking. You can't help but blush and laugh.
"Why Captain, giving me a taste of my own medicine, are you? I would have never guessed."

You woke the next morning feeling like shit. What. Was. In. Those. Drinks?!
"Jarvis, what time is it? And what time does Tony usually get up for the day?" You want to surprise him with breakfast to make up for all the long-held secrets, hoping he will go easy on you if you butter him up first.
"It is 7:30am, Miss Pixie. Mr. Stark usually is awake no earlier than 9am, though, after a party, I would venture to guess he will be up later than usual." Jarvis replied in his usual polite tone.
"Um, who is 'Miss Pixie'?"
"It is what Mr. Stark has asked me to call you," Jarvis responds as you roll your eyes and scoff. "Would you prefer to be called something else?"
"Thank you, Jarvis. Yes, please call me Una, or if Tony is around, call me 'Your Majesty.' Can you please make sure Tony wakes up and gets his ass downstairs for breakfast by 9am? You can tell him it is at my request and that I wouldn't take 'No' for an answer." You may want to butter him up, but you're also pissed at him for whatever it was he put in your drinks. You could suffer together before you healed his hangover.
"As you wish, Miss Una," You think you hear a bit of amusement in his voice.
You go to rummage through your suitcase and give up. You're too tired for this shit. You sit back and wave a hand over your body instead. You are suddenly changed out of your nightdress and are wearing a short, black, sleeveless cotton romper. Your hair is up in a simple ponytail, your bangs side swept back with a small clip covered in glittering white stones. You don't feel like wearing shoes, so you skip them, letting your teal pedicure and silver moon toe ring accessorize your feet.
"Jarvis, who else is awake this morning?" you wonder if you might run into Thor in the kitchen. You regret how forward you were with him in front of everyone last night, hoping you didn't embarrass yourself too hard. Usually, you wouldn't care, but you want these people to like you for some reason. They already knew more about you than you traditionally shared. Not enough to put you in any danger. Not that anything around here could REALLY put YOU in danger anymore, but there are people you care about who your enemies could target if they knew how to find you. Hopefully, they are all still buried where you left them, ages ago.
"Captain Rogers is out for his morning run, and Miss Romanoff is just waking up. Mr. Banner is in the shower." Jarvis replies.
"Thanks, Jarvis; just wondering who I may see in the communal kitchen this morning."
"Likely, Captain Rogers will stop in for breakfast after his run. Miss Romanoff and Mr. Banner have been seen to enjoy coffee and breakfast together in the morning. Everyone else usually wanders in eventually or goes out for breakfast." Jarvis informs you.
"Exactly what I wished to know, Jarvis. You're the best."
You head down to the communal kitchen and dig through the cupboards and fridge, finding all the needed ingredients for pancakes. You remember your brief chat with Steve the night before and decide to put on some old-school Madonna to sing along with as you start cracking eggs into a big bowl. "Into the Groove" comes on first, and you can't help but move your hips and dance around a bit as you mix things together. You figure no one will be down for a few more minutes and let loose, singing into the spoon and dancing around the kitchen. You're bent over, looking in the fridge for some berries to add to the pancakes and belting out, "Only when I'm dancing can I feel this free!" and shaking your ass when you hear something crash on the floor behind you. You turn around to find Steve standing there, blushing with that crooked smile on his face.

You have spent centuries consolidating power - usually subtly - sometimes a little more brazenly. You were most recently made a Queen of the Dark Fae - but you didn’t start out that way. But that’s another story for another day.
This is the story of how you ended up teaming up with The Avengers and meeting the man who would change everything.
Tumblr media
It had been a while since you were nervous about attending a party. You had let your old friend Tony Stark know that you would be in New York for a string of gigs, singing in a few exclusive clubs around the city, and he had been way too excited to hear from you, inviting you to a party he was hosting for his superhero team. You don't know much about them, but you know from experience that this means he wants you to do something for him. Of course, back in the day, when you were hooking up and partying together, that usually meant some kind of sexy scenario involving who knows what. Still, he had been serious with Pepper for years, and you keep your relationship strictly friends these days.
So what is he up to?
It was Friday night, and you had just finished up a small show at a little jazz club, singing standards with a piano and bass, and you were dressed for the occasion. A long black dress clings to your striking curves, dipping low enough to entice more than a glance at your impressive bosom, but not  too  low. A slit on the left goes up to just below your mid-thigh. Designer black stilettos with red bottoms grace your feet. Your jewelry is minimal but expensive. A string of diamonds cascades down from your ears, and a matching tennis bracelet rests on your left wrist. Your long sleek hair is pinned up in such a way that it looks effortlessly graceful, with little wisps escaping here and there like you had been getting hot and heavy with some babe in the green room before strolling out on stage to serenade everyone with your clear, potent voice.
All of this comes very easily to you, and it always has. It's a part of who and what you are. You have spent centuries consolidating power - usually subtly - sometimes a little more brazenly. You were most recently made a Queen of the Dark Fae - but you didn't start out that way. You were once only a siren, singing your song to sailors passing by in Alfheim, feeding on their longing for you. But it wasn't enough for you, and you spent the past many centuries (honestly, you've lost count) building your powers and abilities to a level that you are not even sure of at this point. But that's another story for another day.
This is the story of how you ended up teaming up with The Avengers and meeting the man who would change everything.
You grab your suitcase from the green room and sneak out the back before anyone can distract you. You don't want to get stuck politely brushing off fans or deal with that guy in the front row who was practically drooling through your entire performance. Not that you blame him, but that doesn't mean you always want to deal with the consequences of singing for the weaker-minded of the Midgardian population. An unfortunate side effect of what you are is that you sometimes end up with obsessive losers attempting to stalk you. You decide to throw a glamor over yourself as you exit the building into the alley, just to be sure to avoid any unwanted attention.
You sigh happily as you see a sleek black sedan waiting in the alley with the little Stark logo on the back. You climb in, letting your glamor fall, and are pleased to see it's Tony's man, Happy, who is driving. He gives you a big grin as he gets out to put your suitcase in the trunk.
"Pleasure as always, Miss Una! Ready to party?"

Lightning Over the Sea
COMPLETE - Part One of the series All links go to the full chapters on Archive of Our Own
You have spent centuries consolidating power - usually subtly - sometimes a little more brazenly.

In which Una spends some time at home before heading to Asgard and learns things are not as they seem.

Previous Chapter
The weeks stretch on endlessly without Loki, and you find yourself struggling to fill the void he left behind. You immerse yourself in the study and practice of the magic he taught you, but the memories of him linger. In an effort to distract yourself, you allow various suitors to court you, but their attention pales in comparison to the passion you experienced with the mischievous god. You are missed in your usual circles, but you find it challenging to engage with others, your thoughts constantly consumed by the memory of him.
Back home in the dark depths of the sea, your sisters press you for details about your time with the Asgardian prince and the Summer Court. Naturally, most of them are very jealous, but none so much as Blóðughadda, your eldest sister named so for her hair the color of fresh mortal blood. You can feel her resentment like a cold tide washing over you, and you know that she will stop at nothing to sabotage your happiness.
"Adda, I don't know why you must pester me so," you have grown tired of her constant questions about Loki. "I feel as though I could tell you every minute detail, and you would still be unsatisfied."
"I can tell you are keeping something from me, Una," she glares at you with a sneer. "If I didn't know how much you crave power, I would think you lying to me about your achievements at the masquerade. How did you amass such strength without anyone noticing? You would be better off telling me before I find out on my own and share what I learn with our father."
"Oh, Adda," you chuckle darkly. "If father has not chosen to fill you in, mayhap we can assume he does not think you are important enough to know."
You don't know how much Ægir knows about your relationship with Loki or the deal you made with Frigga. (Not to mention whatever deal Frigga made with Ægir for him to allow you to leave.) But you hope implying that he is well informed and turning your sister's insecurity back on herself is an excellent way to get her off your back.
As powerful and respected members of the Dark Court, Ægir and your mother Rán have a significant influence over the court's affairs, their Jötunn and Æsir blood setting them apart from the other Fae. The reigning queen knows this, leaving their affairs to them to control with little input from her. Therefore, as a gesture of good faith and with no heirs of her own, she has named you and your sisters princesses of the Dark Court. Not that any reigning Dark Court faerie has ever had an heir rise to the throne. The Dark Court has not seen a peaceful transfer of power in a millennium, preferring to let the most powerful Fae rise to the top to prove their worth. It has led to the Dark Court consistently growing in strength, much to the dismay of the other courts, who are more embroiled in politics and nepotism.
Your attempt to trigger Adda works and she storms off, leaving you alone. You swim back toward your rooms, leaving the common area where your sister had confronted you. As you make your way, you run into Fimafeng and Eldir, co-captains of your father's guard. They are dressed in their finest silver armor, and you can't help but wonder who is visiting that would make them go through the trouble of attaching all of those hidden buckles. You had helped more than one guard out of that armor in the past and found it to be more trouble than it was worth. The two of them greet you with a nod and a smile, and you can't shake off the feeling that something important is about to happen.
