Human life is made up of so many complicated layers, it’s quite fascinating when you think about it. Imagine you could be living in your hometown one minute just pushing through with your educational studies, and the next minute your hopping on a plane pursing a once in a lifetime opportunity. Imagine growing up never really dreaming of a fairytale wedding, but one day you could be walking down the street and bump into the love of your life. What’s here one day, could be gone the next and vice versa. Nothing is set in stone, so if you want to change do it, if you want to pack it all up and move into a van than go for it. The opportunities that are presented today, may not be available later on. Just go forward. We as humans are not made one dimensional, so why should our lives be.
some days I'm convinced I'm fucking up my son, but today, while we were playing with kinetic sand, I said I was going to give my sand person ball thing a unicorn horn (which is not easy because kinetic sand is built to fall apart, I swear), and he said that it was going to be too difficult, and I said, well I'm going to try anyway because I can do hard things, and he said "Oh yeah, because words are powerful. So if you say you can do it, you might really be able to do it. So try it!", and I don't know, maybe it's dumb, but him telling me words are powerful because he internalized what I say to him made me happy. It's good to know that the good things stick, too.
Me: "So when are you going to be done with your homework?"
Beth: [age 14] "I'm almost done. Maybe 10 minutes?"
Me: "Cool beans."
Beth: "Cool beans? Wow, I haven't heard that in forever."
Me: "Forever? Ha! It was popular when I was a kid. I think it started in the 70s."
Beth: "I used to say that all the time in middle school. Then people started complaining that it was weird, so I switched to saying 'cool pomegranates'. I'm pretty sure that started the pandemic somehow."
Me: "Well, words /are/ powerful, but I don't think 'cool pomegranates' could spontaneously mutate a virus."
Beth: "Can we be really sure? This is why we should stop saying it out loud, because who knows what trouble we might cause?"
Me: "Hmmm. That's probably true for most words."
