I can't stand background noise in a quiet environment. I can work in a loud, bustling restaurant without issue, but when it's supposed to be quiet, the tiniest noises set my veins on fire. I'm overwhelmed by bathroom fans, and microwave fans, and the music from a videogame screen someone left up before falling asleep, and the sound of a chip crunching in someone's mouth, or snoring when I'm trying to sleep. And it's wild, because I know some people need sounds to fall asleep. They fall asleep to TV shows, and they turn on white noise machines, and I have fallen asleep during a movie before, I mean I am so sleepy all the time, and pretty much known to fall asleep everywhere and anywhere, but that's when I fall asleep against my control, when the sleep is stronger than everything else, when I don't have time to register the sound against the quiet. Even then, if I wake up. all the sound has to stop before I go back to sleep. I can't ignore it otherwise. and my beautiful, darling of a child, never turns anything off. He's six, so, I forgive him, but he always disappears from a room with minecraft monsters still growling, or leaves on the bathroom fan which I know he only clicks on by mistake, or falls asleep with a movie too loud, sleeping directly on top of the remote, so I can't find it when I go to look, and I'm forced to unplug the entire TV to avoid crawling out of my skin. I hate that it makes me feel so angry, something as silly as a sound which should barely even register, and I wish there was a way to make it stop.
