Hi! I loved your comfort goddess post! If your still taking requests, could you do one where Fem! Motherly Goddess reader is the wife of Ares and watches over his children with intense care. Especially Clarissa (if your comfortable with adding a dash of favoritism with Clarissa lol). And the Ares kids are possessive of their Motherly Goddess even though she literally only cares for them at the camp and how the other campers see this. ^^ thank you!!

Many centuries ago you had be punished for your husbands doings.
Ares had upset Hephaestus by having a affair with his wife, Aphrodite. and you knew your husbands actions but you cared little about them, because his attention wasn’t on you. and you didn’t hate Aphrodite for it and you actually liked her, even had tea meetings with her at times.
Hephaestus was so upset he was going crazy in anger, so Zeus needed to punish his son. And that meant with you because he knew how much his son cared for you. So, you were sent to watch over the demo gods with Dionysus.
You spent years caring for all the children of your family and cared for them.
And for centuries it was Ares kids who took up most of your time. Their anger and hotheaded nature made your attention be placed on them mostly.
No matter what time it was, your husbands children need something.
When Clarisse came in things took a heavy turn. They became more needy and clingy to you that you constantly had to break fights they had started.
They seek your praise more then their fathers.
Asking for your blessing each capture of the flag, every fight, every mission, anything they need.
“Did you see that?” One of the younger children ran up to you with armor half the size of himself. “I would have killed him if it wasn’t a dummy.” You just patted his head and gave him the slight bit of praise.
But, Clarisse. She was at your side almost always. Even fighting with her siblings for you and she didn’t care. She was better then them.
When Percy arrived at camp she couldn’t believe her ears when you agreed with the stories of him killing the minotaur. how dare he? he wasn’t special and worth nothing to have you talk about him.
she hated him so much more and wanted nothing more then to have him say he was lying so she could drag him to you. and have him bow at your feet to apologize.
He was a fake.
Any bad emotions you could sense them. So when you felt a overwhelming sense in the bathrooms in camp you followed to find out what was happening. That’s when heard a loud noise.
Rushing in you see three of them on the floor and the new kid in the stall, door broke and water overflowing throughout the place. Clarisse was soaked and looked like she was about to attack him, you knew she was probably causing problems before you came in.
“Clarisse,” Your stern voice echoed through the place and made everyone turn to you and their faces worried. “What did you do?” You glanced at the two beside her as you crossed your arms.
they tried to explain but you grabbed them and started to scold them and take them back to their cabin. a goddess yelling at you was scary. and having the one who is know for her calmness was even scarier.
the whole cabin was out for Percy when capture of the flag came but Clarisse and her team were going for him. he made them look like fools in front of their mother? he was a dead man.

I Grew this for you, Ives.
Tumblr media
Luke Castellan X Daughter of Demeter! Reader
Summary: Your secret meetup with your boyfriend, Luke, might have been interrupted by Percy Jackson.
Warnings: MakeUp...MAKEOUT- I MEAN. Language (Tell me if i missed one!)
Author's note: It might be kinda weird that the title doesn't match the summary but trust me, it's worth reading. + If you saw a fic from another blog the same as this i requested it and decided i wanna make the fic myself.
___
New kid, New responsibility. You were known as being motherly towards every kid that stepped in Camp Half Blood. And Maybe, Just maybe, Percy Jackson considered you as his Camp Mom, It wasn't new for older campers seeing a new 12 year old boy follow you around and look up at you with big puppy eyes along with Grover's confused look, but oh well.
Ever since your Godly Mother, Demeter has claimed you, Luke has called you Ives since then. It all happened when three years ago, you ended up in Camp Half blood after your mortal father has been killed by a chimera, much to his sacrifice, You might have offered some small offerings to your Brother In Law, Hades, to watch him in the underworld. Your first week into camp half-blood, Chiron had announced that Capture the Flag will be the first game for the day, you were teamed up with the reds (Much to your disappointment) you were near the cabin fire when two boys from the blue team had cornered you (One of them was luke) you raised you hands to cover yourself but then, Two ivy vines sprouted out the soil and blocked them, horror washed over you when one of the vines that you 'accidentally' summoned strangled one of the boys, Luke was able to escape and still..Blue team one.
While they were celebrating, The red team started ranting angrily about how you made them lose, You sat in a corner, your head leaned against an oak tree as you sobbed, then, a bright greenish-yellow light appeared with gold sickle with a few sheaths of wheat above your head, No one was there, not until a group of campers saw you, they ran and moments later, almost dozens of campers were in front of you, including chiron.
"All Hail Y/n Y/L/N, Daughter of Demeter"
Bunch of flowers started sprouting near you, The forest and plants looked much more healthier in your eyes as every one knelt down, Including Luke, Who gave you a mischievous wink.
"....And this is the mess hall, You're always designated to sit with your cabin mates but that depends, most unclaimed kids just sit with their friends" You said, Glancing at Percy, The young boy just nodded shyly and coughed, trying to hide his blushing cheeks.
"Looks like someone has a crush on you" Luke appeared behind you with a grin, Percy's eyes immediately went wide, making you chuckle.
"Crushes don't hurt, it's admiration afterall" You whispered before giving percy a light kiss on his cheeks, leaving luke shocked.
One of you halfsiblings, Althea, called you over. Apparently, another one of your half sibling's EX boyfriend from the Dionysus cabin used a lard grapevine to ruin the bathroom door inside the cabin while you sibling is showering out of rage and jealousy.
Now, As head of your cabin, It's either you spent one whole hour being lectured by Mr. D out of his favoritism or...Plead with one of the Hephaestus kids to fix it for you.
What a day.
Giving Luke and Percy one last smile, You left.
__
"C'mon Felix! This is the only time that i've asked for a favour out of all the favours i've done for you, You'd do it for me" You pleaded as you followed him back and forth inside his cabin's workshop.
"Look, Y/n, I love you as my friend, but i can't do it, not right now"
"What if i give you a 25$ gift card from burger king and......" You scouried your pocket hoping to find something, Your eyes lit up as you felt a bill in your palms "50 dollars...and...." You then went to pat your bra and pulled out a coin. "A Peso"
You then placed it in his soily hands, Felix's face remained calm, he then took the money.
"It's warm..." He said kinda horrified...You pulled the peso out of your bra for the gods sake!
"Take it or leave it."
He then rolled his eyes and grabbed his toolbox.
"Lead the way"
You squealed and hugged him before pulling him to your cabin.
As you watched him repair the door in silence, Felix broke the silencce by purposely dropping a hammer to the ground, the loud clattering sound made you flinch a little, he smirked "Thinking about Luke?"
You snorted, as if tho you weren't actually thinking about him, "No, i'm thinking about Percy"
"The new kid who broke Clarisse's spear? he's badass"
"mhm, Son of Poseidon"
"Speaking of, How's Luke?"
There was a moment of silence before you replied.
"Fine"
"Just 'fine' ? No ungodly things happening?"
"No" You could've bursted out laughing.
"I don't believe you, C'mon tell me some elaborate details"
You raised your brow, a mischievous glint appearing in your eyes.
"Actually, if you finished that, i'll tell you"
The Hephaestus boy huffed and went back to work
After an hour, Felix finished repairing the door and bid you a goodbye (Along with a side-eye)
__
It was now 11 pm, the Campfire sing-along ended almost an hour ago, and you were in your cabin, re-arranging your stuffed toys for the 5th time, (Making one plushie lay beside you will cause chaos among the plushies)
"Carrie..You go here and..Princess should be right....here, Done!"
All of your plushies were in order when you heard a knock from the window near your bunkbed. then, you saw luke, still in his usual camp shirt, unlike you who was in your rather inappropriate pajamas.
His eyes first landed on you, he then grinned before groaning and landing on your soft bunk bed.
"Hey ives-"
"Luke, what're you doing here?!" You hissed, afraid that your half siblings might caught you two.
"Can i not see you?"
"You can, but not at this time" You huffed, But he was still grinning before pulling a flower pot, with a rose.
"I grew this for you, Ives" He whispered, His eyes carefully scanning you expression before you chuckled.
"You know i can grow this in seconds?"
"Mhm, But still, I love you 'till the very last rose in this entire world wilt into ash"
A smile graced upon your lips before luke grabbed your cheeks and kissed you, the flowerpot fell into your bed, the soil staining your new bedsheet, You couldn't care less.
You deepened the kiss by pulling Luke by his neck, and a groan escaped his lips, his calloused hands then slowly went up your shorts making you moan a little, His hands became closer and closer and closer until-
"Luke?"
You two pulled away, Luke's hands were still in your inner thighs, he took a peak into your window and saw Percy, in his cute pajamas with messy blonde hair.
"Percy" Luke breathed.
"What's up?"
"The Apollo cabin seemed to be having a party, the noise is too loud and i can't sleep, i was wondering if you could go see it "
You then peaked into your window, your cheeks were pressed against luke's
"Y/n? Wait..what are you guys doing? and...why are you in her window?" Percy asked, his drowsiness seemed to have vanished.
Luke couldn't even answer percy himself, he started chuckling softly before burying his face into your neck and smothered it with kisses.
Percy then stood still before realizing, he cleared his throat, but before he could leave you called him.
"You know what? I think Luke could actually take a look at those Sun Brats" Luke immediately groaned and looked at you.
"Seriously?"
"Seriously. Go help the poor boy"
"Yes Ma'am"
He then got up and just as he was about to climb down your bunk bed you stopped him.
"Nah uh, You can leave where you entered"
The dark haired boy chuckled, and and started climbing down the window, before he could jump back to the ground you kissed him one last time, But this time, the kiss was much more passionate. You could've sworn percy made a gagging face before turning around.
"I love you Ives"
" 'Till the very last rose in this entire world wilt into ash" You said, Luke's eyes soften.
You watched as he and Percy went to the Apollo cabin to resolve the chaos.
The flower potted rose sat in your bed, You took it, and glanced at the beautiful red beauty, You sniffed the fragrance before placing it near your window as you felt Hypnos' warm palm caressing you to sleep.
__
The next day, The first thing you did was bang into Felix's cabin, Giving him every detail from last night as Luke, along with percy watched you from afar.
A/N:
Hey Guys! I've been gone for too long and i just watched the new PJO series and i have to be honest, I fell in love with Charlie as Luke so here's a little treat for you guys while i finish my other fics, i do hope you guys like it!

Travis Stoll (Part 1)
He's walking on campus, like every other day.
He's whistling a tune Will taught him a long time ago, at the beginning of their friendship.
He chuckles at the memory of their first real interaction.
Will punched him in the nose for putting a snake in his bed.
He still thinks that a rubber snake wasn't worth such a commotion. It's not like he put a real one !
He has always been softer than his brother.
When they prank their dear campmates, he usually have less injuries prone ideas.
Except when those campers landed a particular mean hit on his brother during training. Or said something about Luke that made him clench his jaw.
At Camp, Hermes is the god of liars, thieves and cheerful trickster.
In the myths, Hermes kills without remorse a turtle and beheaded a giant.
He understands Camp needs a comedic relief, someone to make them laugh during hard times. He happily took on that responsibility, making it his mission to make sure that laughter would echo in Camp Half-Blood at least three times a day.
If they just happen to forget that it's not more difficult to put bear traps instead of balloons on the floor, well it's on them.
His father killed Argos because he felt like it. As his son, he has no qualms in hearing the pained screams of the Ares campers when their legs get caught in the traps.
Especially if Connor's face lights up when he sees them limping during dinner.
His smile is worth every second of concentration in training, dodging with extra speed Clarisse's furious attacks .
Maybe he isn't softer than his brother.
Maybe he's just better at hiding it.
It's never been hard to put up a facade, his godly heritage making it terribly easy to mask his real emotions.
Two persons can see through him like an open book, no matter how hard he tries.
He could never look into Connor's eyes and even think about uttering a lie, betray his brother's trust. Connor is his anchor, the reason he has not drowned when their mother hurled empty bottles at them, when Luke left them in charge of the biggest cabin or when he had to smile through the back-handed remarks and distrustful glares.
As for the other, it's not that he doesn't want to lie, but that he can't. Son of the god of Truth, his best friend can see right through his lies. Will Solace has been a true thorn in his side since he discovered that power, always harassing him until he discovers what Travis is up to.
The only way Travis has found to counter that power is to run as fast as he can every time he sees Will approaching him with a too cheerful face to be natural. So far, so good !
It's been an awful long time since he saw them for the last time. He had been a mess when he bolted through the borders, searching frantically for Connor. For some reasons, which has been explained to him later, communications were down during a long time and Travis couldn't talk to his brother.
It nearly drove him crazy.
Hearing that Camp had been attacked during his absence, that he left Connor alone to defend their half-siblings made him sick.
Travis's life resolve around one simple task : protect Connor at all costs.
It's been its reason to call social services on his mom, when she passed out on the couch one too many times.
It's been its reason to face every monsters who chased them on their way to Camp. It doesn't matter how much it hurts, how much he bleeds if it means hearing his brother's laugh once he has healed.
It's the most beautiful sound he has ever heard.
A pure, unrestrained laugh so full of joy.
The last time he heard it was just before Luke left. Since them, each of their friends' death tarnished it a little. Now Connor merely smiles and when he laughs, it's a pale replica of what it has once been.
But now the wars are over !
No more prophecies dooming them all !
He can come back from time to time, bringing joy and mischief with him !
He can't wait to introduce paintball to Cabin 5 and see the splotches of colors in every corner of Camp.
It's decided, he'll go this week-end !
Travis smiles fondly, imagining his brother's reaction when he sees him.
part 2 posted !

(I know that I use the shy child reader alot but it's kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, if u can call it that) - 🌓
❝ 🦉 — lady l: Sure! Ah, ah don't worry, I actually enjoying writing a platonic yandere and I can see myself on the reader place when it's shy, since I am like that irl 😝
❝tw: yandere themes, mention of murder, possessive and obsessive behavior, overprotective and manipulative older sister.
❝🦉pairing: platonic yandere!annabeth chase x female!reader.
Tumblr media
Annabeth is one of the most smartest, rational people and demigods you could ever meet, thanks to the fact that she is a daughter of Athena. Ever since she was a child Annabeth has always had extreme intelligence and that hasn't changed a bit over the years.
However, after your birth, things changed, in this case Annabeth's behavior. You were another child of Athena, but you were also the daughter of Annabeth's father, which made you more special than the other half-demigods brothers she has.
Annabeth immediately became attached to you after your birth, she was seven years old at the time and was already at Camp Half-Blood but when she heard you were born she insisted on coming home. She didn't care about anything else, not even her stepmother or half-siblings (both human and demigod), she wanted you. She wanted to be with you and she would.
She idolizes her mother, Athena, so the fact that you're her mother's child with her father made you really important to her. Annabeth inwardly dreams of her parents getting together, although they haven't (yet) and having you here made that dream more possible.
As you grew up, Annabeth was always by your side. No matter what it was, your birthday, family reunions or your graduation, she would always be there, cheering you on. Chase is an extremely proud older sister, she literally takes pride in anything you do.
Expect to receive many gifts and rewards from your sister. She loves to spoil you because she thinks you deserve it. You were adorable, so why not? It gets to the point where you have to set aside a room just for the things she gives you. Though sometimes the gifts can be scary, like Medusa's head or anything else she kills or takes on one of her quests.
When you turn eleven, it's time to head to Camp Half-Blood and Annabeth of course would be the one to take you, but not before strictly warning you about the people you should stay away from and if anyone messes with you it's to warn her. Annabeth was already head of Athena's Cabin, so you would share the same room as her.
She is very possessive, she feels entitled to control you. Annabeth would push away anyone who got too close to you for her liking, but luckily, for her at least, you were a shy child, so you rarely talked to the other campers.
Unfortunately, Annabeth can't control your actions all the time, even if she wanted to. So when you got your first quest, she really wanted to keep you at the Camp, where you'd be safe. But she couldn't do that, so on your missions you would always be with Annabeth.
She is very clingy too. As stated before, she rarely leaves your side. If she had any obligations, you would be dragged along with her. Annabeth doesn't want you to be alone or around bad influences.
It's worth mentioning Percy, your sister's boyfriend. Percy has grown fond of you too and has become as protective of you as Annabeth, so let's be clear, you'll have two cunning demigods always hovering over you. Percy is actually one of the few people Annabeth encourages you to talk to. She knows you can trust him as much as she does, so she doesn't feel threatened when you're with him.
Annabeth is a little delusional. She sees you as one of the reasons her dream of seeing her parents together can come true and she knows you want that dream fulfilled as much as she does. At least that's what she thinks. But none of that matters, she's your big sister and you should listen to her like a good little sister, right? And you will never question her, after all, she just wants to see you safe and well.

Percy Jackson story idea
(Please write or use and then send me the link, thanks!)
Okay two things about this AU:
Luke has a different speech at the end of Lightning Thief that convinces Percy.
The Great Prophecy was destroyed in this AU and over time changed just like stories change over time. Who knows what it actually said anymore.
-
“Percy, I am the oldest camper here. I’m only 19 years old and I’ve been here for five years. Yet, you haven’t seen one other half-blood over the age of 15. Don’t you think that’s strange? Didn’t you wonder why Hermes’ cabin had an open bed despite how cramped it is? In my five years here, all my friends that were around the same age as me, have died. Nobody wants to stay here forever, even if it’s the only safe place in the world. Eventually, the urge to leave will start to get to you. Some leave to make a life for themselves, attend college even. Most run away because they’re unclaimed or…kill themselves.” Luke grimaces, but continues, “Others, like me, attempt to complete a quest. Hoping for their godly parent’s attention or even acknowledgement. My father,” Luke spits out bitterly, “sent me to get a golden apple. I brought my only other surviving friends with me. They died fighting the drakon. I only escaped because of my flying shoes. I tried carrying my friends with me. But they were too heavy for the shoes. I tried praying for assistance to anyone. But no one came. By the time I reached a safe distance from the garden, I had gotten my two closest friends killed, and…” Luke raises his shirt and a faint jagged scar stretched across his abdomen, “a mortal wound. All over an apple. All for a desperate attempt to get attention. While I was bleeding out, anger took over my despair. How could the gods do this to their children? Why must we always die, like, like fireflies? I ate the apple and it healed me. I made it back to camp and told everyone I had failed. And I did. My friends were dead, other half-bloods died similar bloody deaths. And for what? Is this what it means to be a child of a god? I begged Chiron to ban quests and, by some miracle, I convinced him. Maybe he was sick of all the death and funerals, too. But, Percy, the problem with praying to anyone listening, means that anyone can answer your prays. And the help they provide may not be what you wanted or intended. That same night, I dreamed of my friends dying. I dreamed of myself dying with them and all the while, this voice in a pit laughed. He mocked me for my failed repeated attempts at trying to save them. These dreams went on for weeks. Eventually, I yelled at the voice, asking how I could save them, if he would. And just like that, those nightmares ended and a new, waking nightmare began. The Crooked One promised that I could stop any more of my siblings and fellow half-bloods from dying, if I helped him overthrow the gods. He promised that we would no longer be their pawns to use and abandon and sacrifice as they see fit.
“Percy, you don’t see it now because it’s all so new to you, but that story of how your father met your mother and spent the whole summer with her? That’s incredibly rare, sometimes impossible for certain gods. Do have any idea how disheartening it is to arrive at a cabin full of siblings you never knew about? That just as abandoned and forgotten about as you? Some of us are born in the same year, just weeks apart! To them, it feels like their mother—their parents were just a quick one-night stand that got saddled with a child afterwards. The Gray-Eyed One frivolously chooses when to have a thought-baby and givens it to the mortal with no warning or time for planning that most expecting parents get. Annabeth’s father had to use up all his savings to support a life with a newborn. His parents and relatives stopped talking to him when they discovered he had a child but no explanation for who its mother was. Alone, broke, and stuck with a child he didn’t want, Chase did the best he could and raised her, which is more than most half-bloods can say here. But even then, Annabeth ran away at seven because she was neglected emotionally. It’s not a good thing that Athena’s cabin is so full.
“Come on now, Percy, years of anger and abuse don’t disappear after one conversation with your godly parent. You stopped a war, cleared your name, and all you get was your life spared? After how many attempts against it? After how many times the gods interfered? I know my actions seem extreme to you, but please, think about it from my perspective after living here for five years.”
“You’re right. You’re right about all of it. I hate the way we’re treated. I hate how the gods don’t care. I hate my dad for never being there. I hate that my biggest crime is existing, is being born. But that thing in the pit scares me more than Zeus ever could. I stood before Hades in his domain while he sat on his throne and it took everything in me to resist submitting to him. The power that thing emanated, just from standing even remotely close to its prison, prettifies me. I don’t know how choosing him would be a better choice than the gods.” Percy explains and leans forward from his seat with his hands folded together.
Luke could work with this. He had the child of prophecy listening, which is further than he expected to get.
“Then what do you suggest?” The older boy prompts, eager for any alternative against a war.
Percy sat in thoughtful silence, staring at a patch of blue flowers, before looking at Luke, “We plan a series of rebellions and protests. You’ve been trying to solve it by yourself, but Luke, you’re not alone. I think we should involve all the cabin leaders in our plans. Have them talk to their siblings, explain why we’re doing this, what our goals are, and how we plan to achieve them.”
Luke sat down across from Percy. Now it was Luke’s turn to listen to Percy with interest.
“We’ll need a solid first step before meeting with the other half-bloods. They won’t listen to us otherwise,” Luke suggests, “I can get them to meet us and their respect for me will get them to hear us out, but without a concrete idea for our first act, they’ll be too hesitant or scared to agree.”
Percy nods at this, “I know. I have an idea in mind already.”
They talk to each other well through the night.
-
The next day, Luke gathers all the cabin leaders one-by-one. He meets them personally and informs them all about an unscheduled cabin meeting, safely avoiding news of this reaching Chiron or Mr. D.
“Alright, Lukie, you’ve gathered us here,” Clarisse baits, “What are we waiting for? Chiron?”
Luke sighs at the nickname, “No, not Chiron.”
Just then Percy walks in, “Sorry, Annabeth held me up.”
Clarisse was about to protest Percy’s presence, but a sharp look from Luke silenced her.
“Now, we can start. We gathered you here to talk about the gods,” Luke begins and already campers rose to leave, “Please, just hear us out. Please.”
They all return to their seats.
“We have a the first part of our plan ready, if it succeeds, then we want to work together and start planning the next ones. Together,” Luke looks meaningfully at all of the other campers. Children he’s known since they’ve first arrived. The older boy turns to Percy and cues him to further explain.
“I know I’ve just arrived, but I’ve experienced the gods’ mistreatment my whole life, just like all of you. At least ten times the gods interfered with my quest to kill me—“
“Bullshit!” Clarisse calls out.
Percy frowns, “One, my math teacher was a fury in disguise sent by the Unseen One. Two, Ze—the Thundering One struck our car with lightning. Three, he also sent the minotaur after us. Four, hellhound. Five, all three furies this time on the bus. Six, lightning set it on fire. Seven, Medusa. Eight, Echidna and chimera sent by Thundering One. Nine, The Warlike One sent us on a side quest and we nearly get killed after spring a trap laid by the Lord of Fire. Ten, trapped as Lotus Eaters. Eleven, Procrustes. Twelve, the Underworld and all that it entails. Thirteen, I fought the Warlike One himself. Fourteen, my reward for returning the bolt was my life. Does that satisfy you, Clarisse? Am I now qualified to speak at this meeting?” Percy deliberately left out Luke summoning the hellhound and Kronos’ involvement. Clarisse remains silent, but nods.
Percy continues, “Many of you know or are familiar with the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment that we suffer through. My mom married my abusive step-father to protect me from monsters. He hurt both of us, but he never broke us. We rebelled in little ways. One of them was by eating blue-colored food. Gabe claimed they didn’t exist, so we ate blueberries, blue candy, dyed food blue. Mom would bribe him with beer, gambling funds, or food to manipulate him into getting what she wanted. What I propose we do is this: stop giving the gods offerings. They need us more than we need them.”
Yet, several campers shout their disbelief.
“Think about it!” Percy yells over them, “Everyone else believes that they’re myths. No one worships them anymore. It’s through us that they gain power. Our offerings, our prayers, our lives. Without us, they wouldn’t have all the power and control they think they have.”
- Stop giving offerings
- Start sleeping outside of cabins
- Start praying your life story, all the grief you’ve suffered because of your heritage or mortal family/world
- Start holding vigils for fallen half-bloods

“  love conquers all,  ”     aphrodite promised.     “  look at helen and paris.     did they let anything come between them?  ”     “  didn’t they start the trojan war and get thousands of people killed?  ”     “  pfft.     that’s not the point.     follow your heart!  ”
Tumblr media
basics.
parents:     william ‘bill’ forbes (father), elizabeth ‘liz’ forbes (adoptive mother), aphrodite (biological mother)
occupation:     cabin counselor and self-entitled head of event planning
caroline forbes found out the truth about her mother when she was twelve years old.     some would say that’s a little early to tell a child they’re adopted, but bill and liz didn’t have much of a choice in the matter.    caroline loved snooping and it didn’t take long for her to find pictures of her father, arms slung around a pretty blonde that most definitely was not her mom.    well, actually, it was.    her biological mother, that is.
her parents sat her down and proceeded to tell her how bill had met a woman when he was younger.    her name was aphrodite and she was like no other woman he’d ever met.    the two hit it off right away and she quickly fell pregnant.    though bill was nervous at the idea of being a father, he was also excited to experience all that with aphrodite.    his world turned upside down when aphrodite handed him a small pink bundle and said she ‘couldn’t do this’ before leaving without further explanation.    having no idea of what to do, bill turned to his childhood best friend, liz.    he told her everything and, surprisingly, she believed him.    unable to let her friend go through it all on his own, liz offered to help.    together, they raised caroline and liz became her mother.
the news of having a literal goddess for a mother was a total shock to caroline, but she managed to go on with her life.    that is, until she was attacked by a sea serpent while out on a beach trip with her parents, when she was only fifteen.    scared of what might happen to their daughter, liz and bill decided to take her to the one place they knew she’d be safe:    camp half-blood.    being the social butterfly that she’d always been, caroline quickly made friends with other campers and bonded with her siblings.    sure, it was a little weird to know she had siblings that were neither bill’s or liz’s kids, but it was nice knowing other people understood what she was going through.
now, three full years have passed since caroline first stepped into camp, and she’s the current counselor of aphrodite’s cabin, as well as the head of event planning - a task she’d taken over without asking either chiron or mr. d beforehand; but since both of them were happy to not have to deal with that, neither complained -.     she’s well-known around camp, with her warm smiles bright blue eyes, and bubbly personality making it impossible for her to go unnoticed.     well... that, and the fact she is aphrodite’s daughter.
abilities.
amokineses     —     as a daughter of aphrodite, caroline has a level of control over the emotions of love, lust etc, but on a much smaller scale than her mother.
charmspeak     —     caroline’s voice has a mesmerizing effect, capable of influencing the emotions of others or of placing them in her thrall.
beauty / shapeshifting     —     regardless of how she looks and what she wears, caroline is able to radiate beauty.     which sometimes prevents enemies from willingly attacking her, even as she charges them head-on.     she is also able to change her appearance at will, though she tends not to do that frequently.
infallible vision acuity     —     caroline possesses a level of microscopic vision and is able to see flaws in things that other people cannot.
french fluency     —     as a child of aphrodite, caroline is able to speak french fluently, due to it being the language of love.

caroline  forbes  found  out  the  truth  about  her  mother  when  she  was  twelve  years  old.  some  would  say  that’s  a  little  early  to  tell  a  child  they’re  adopted  but  bill  and  liz  didn’t  have  much  of  a  choice.  caroline  liked  to  snoop  and  it  didn’t  take  long  for  her  to  find  pictures  of  her  father,  arms  slung  around  a  pretty  blonde  that  most  definitely  was  not  her  mom.  well …  actually,  it  was.  her  real  mother.

pairing: percy jackson x child of aphrodite! gn reader
requested?: yup!
warnings: mentions of underage drinking, one curse word, and mentions of sexual tension
category: fluff, shy boy x obviously interested girl trope
a/n: don't mind me I'm just projecting and I got carried away
Tumblr media
you’re not sure what gravitated you to percy more
the crystal green eyes, the freckles over his nose, the disheveled dark curls, or his clumsiness
the first time you laid eyes on him, he was walking back to his cabin after sword-fighting practice
his tan skin gleamed in the sunlight as a hand came up to swipe away the damp hair sticking on his forehead
for an action so mundane, it made your stomach flutter like crazy
and then the beauty of the moment was ruined right when he trips over the steps of his cabin
you heard stories of the kid killing the minotaur, blowing up a volcano, and rumors of being the suspected child of a huge prophecy
yet, he was not immune from tripping over his feet
and you’re sure the dorky charm of that moment made you think, he’s mine
for the next few days, you were determined to approach him
but you didn’t just want to come up to him and introduce yourself; that would be too plain and forgettable
you ended up finding your opportunity during a capture the flag game
silena gave you instructions to distract percy, and you headed over strong, ready to make your first impression while also taking him down for your team
sure, he had water powers and done a bunch of cool things, but your father made sure you were well trained in sword fighting and martial arts even before you knew about the camp
you planned to take him by surprise, and luckily it worked
with ruthless attacks, it didn’t take long for you to sweep him off his feet and knock his sword out of his hand
by pressing the flat of your sword under his chin, you forced him to look up at you, and you peered into those clear green eyes
gods, he’s cute, you thought
“hey,” you said
percy was stunned, not sure if it was because you effortlessly took him down or if it was because you were one of the prettiest girls he’s ever seen
“... hi,” he sputtered, gawking for a moment as you offered your hand
you swore you felt sparks when his fingers brush across your palm... even though the contact was a little sweaty
in the distance, you heard the satyrs blow the horn and the roars of celebration from your team
“i should go back to the others. catch you later, ocean eyes,” you flirted
percy’s shoulders tensed up when you blew him a kiss; awkwardly frozen in his place as you waited
“well, are you going to catch it? you can’t just let my kiss fly away.”
percy shifted on his feet, not sure if you were serious or not, but when you held your ground with arms folded over your chest, it was clear that’s what you were waiting for
and so with a flushed face, percy awkwardly grabbed the air in the front of him, and you couldn’t help but giggle
“good, i wouldn’t want it flying to a stranger,” you commented playfully. “you know, i don’t really like this whole outdoor camp life thing, but seeing your pretty face around here makes it a lot better”
“uh… oh, thanks?” he stammered, not having the words to respond
you winked at him before walking off, more than satisfied with your first impression
after that, you were contemplating your next move
children of aphrodite can see all the possibilities in a potential relationship
you were able to see you and percy eating ice cream in central park, holding hands at camp, a shy kiss on your first date
you wanted all of it, and you going to make sure you get it
of course, silena and your siblings were your wing women
if percy was in the strawberry fields, you were picking strawberries beside him
in the fields, you got to know him and his sarcastic humor, which made your crush flourish
you even took sword fighting classes at the same time as him and made sure he was your partner most of the time
whenever you had a chance, you’d affectionately fix his hair or his armor just to hear his shy thank you’s
he’s never had a girl show this much interest in him, so you definitely made him a little nervous, but despite that, he opened up to you pretty quick
sometimes he’d help you out in the stables, and you noticed how he’d fumble with the harnesses or knock things over when you would flirt with him
you loved his reactions so much that you always took it up a notch just to see how he’d react
you suppose the pegasi didn’t make percy’s shyness any better
there were times where he’d shush them, or the tips of his ears would grow even more flushed at a neigh or huff from one of the pegasuses
as the summer came to an end, you gave percy your email and made sure you stayed in touch
you didn’t live very far from one another, but you didn’t dare ask to hangout
you wanted to be asked first!
and you were disappointed when the invitation never came despite the two of you being consistent with sending emails
the year flew by fast, though, and you were excited to return to camp for an array of reasons; percy being one of those reasons, of course
when you saw him for the first time that summer, you were in awe at how different he looked after a year
he was taller, broader, and just more handsome overall
your stomach went into a frenzy when he greeted you with a boyish smile while his hand rubbed the back of his neck nervously because he didn’t fail to notice how, somehow, you were even prettier than he remembered
unfortunately, having the prepare for the war meant you guys were too busy to hang out as often as you did the previous summer
but when you did have time to see each other, it was still fun
there was an unspoken rule between you and percy that any talk about the war wasn’t allowed
it allowed you guys to just bask in the nights where you would watch the sunset while joking around and sharing funny stories
those nights were calm and still; they brought a sense of normalcy amongst the chaos and growing tensions
because of this, percy had sought out your company whenever he could get it
being with you made him feel like time slowed down
inevitably, the battle of manhattan occurred and passed, causing the summer to end with the grief of losing your siblings
while campers arranged the ceremonies to honor their siblings, percy hopped around to help
losing silena as a counselor meant it was time to pick a new one, and to your surprise, your siblings nominated you
you were silena’s right-hand person, the oldest in the group after her, and the strongest fighter, so your siblings felt it was fair that you took the role
but it didn’t feel right to you; the pressure of being a newly elected councilor while still grieving silena weighed hard on your shoulders
after the nomination, you needed time to get away and sit with your thoughts, and you were only there for a moment alone until percy had found you
his eyes studied your somber expression, and he was quick to ask what was wrong
as you poured out all your worries, percy was quiet and attentive
you cuddled up to his side for comfort, and even in your sorrow, you didn’t fail to notice the way he tensed up
finally, when you let everything out, he chimed in to soothe your worries
your expression was a little lovestruck as he said everything you needed to hear, and well, his strong arm around your shoulders definitely helped too
you were so elated that you couldn't help but press a kiss on his cheek to thank him
his flushed face was enough to lift your spirits for good that day
by the time the summer officially came to an end, you could feel that percy’s feelings for you were becoming stronger
the romantic possibilities you envisioned became more apparent, but percy hadn’t asked you out yet
and like, you guessed you could have asked him out, but that wasn't fair in your book
you were already making the first moves; it was his turn to do something about it
then you were sure your mother pitied you because finally, after a few more months of emailing, percy asked if you to go ice skating with him, and of course, you agreed
but then, you concluded that it was more like a cruel joke from your mom because percy never showed up
you waited hours for him before you trudged home in defeat
heartbroken wasn’t even enough to describe how you were feeling
being stood up with no follow up from him made you conclude that he just wasn’t interested and you just needed to move on
it wasn’t until you went to CHB for christmas break did you find out percy was missing
you were crazy worried about him and helped as much as you could to try and find him
when it was confirmed that he was still alive, you were more than relieved
from that day on, you were itching to see him again, and finally, after the giant war, you were able to speak to him
you only said a hello before you got sucked into a game of truth or dare with your friends
the game was self-explanatory; spin the bottle and the person who’s chosen is submissive to the person who spun it
you made up some lousy dares for the first few people until you spun the bottle in percy’s direction
“truth or dare?” your voice was challenging, and a little flirty
percy shifts in his place, “truth.”
“do you want to kiss me?”
“dare.”
“kiss me.”
the instigating coos of your friends made you smile, which contrasted percy’s stunned expression
“never have i ever-”
“that’s not even the game, percy!”
your friends laughed at your interaction, but you were honestly a little annoyed
he liked you; you could feel it, so what was he even waiting for?
“it’s fine. you don’t have to kiss me if you don’t want to,” you say with a playful smile in an attempt to hide your disappointment
“shit, i’d kiss you,” leo joked, and you suddenly perked up at the request
a new idea came to your mind
“so kiss me,” you snapped your gaze to leo, a smirk on your face
leo gasped so hard; he choked on his own saliva
while he coughed erratically, showcasing all his shock on his face, you announced, “new rule! you can only give up a dare if someone else in the group offers to take it for you.”
your gaze fixed on leo, “so, are you going to kiss me or what?”
“uh, only if you want to,” he stammered, and you smiled, moving to lean over in his direction
suddenly, percy cut in, “i didn’t give up the dare.”
your attention shifted to him, and you didn’t fail to pick up the jealousy radiating off of him
your stomach flipped with anticipation at the success of your idea
if percy needed a push, you were going to push him
“you’ve given leo false hope then,” you joked, and playfully leo sighed.
“man, so close,” he mumbled.
you bit your lip as you leaned in percy’s direction
you felt his attraction to you; his eyes told you everything you needed to know and more
and before you knew it, your lips were against his
the kiss was short, but for a moment, the world around you was drowned out; you barely heard the coos and cheers of your friends around you
with a satisfied smirk, you pulled away, settling back in your spot as percy’s eyes averted elsewhere, too shy to look at you
you and your friends played the game until you grew bored and found something else to do
because the festivities kept pulling you in one direction to another, the only interaction you had with percy was the occasional longing glance and nothing else
as you escorted a few of your sisters who drank a little too much back to your cabin, you were sure you’d have to wait another day to talk to him
lost in your dismay, you automatically denied piper’s offer to finish the task
it wasn’t until she scoffed did you pull out of your thoughts
“are you kidding? go. i’ll get them back. you find percy.”
“oh yeah. you guys need to do something about that sexual tension. are you gonna date him or what?” another one of your sisters slurred
before you could even protest, you were shooed away by not only piper but by the rest of your siblings too
you stayed in your spot, making sure they had at least made it to the steps of the cabin before you pranced up to percy’s cabin
you figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask if he wanted to go on a walk with you
your knock is followed by a few moments of shuffling before he opened the door
and, whew, you were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a shirtless percy
“hey." you leaned on the door frame, your eyes trailing down to admire his toned torso
“eyes up here," percy playfully demanded
you were almost hesitant to avert your eyes, but you obliged.
"i wanted to ask if you wanted to take a walk. you know, i just haven’t been sleeping well."
percy leaned against the door frame, amused at the dramatic pout on your face.
“sure, let me put on a shirt firs-”
“oh, you don’t have to. i don’t mind,” you cut him off, and his head tilts back just a little as he laughs
“i’m putting on a shirt,” he declares playfully, and you whine in fake disappointment
on your walk, he told you all the crazy things that happened while he was missing, and even though his stories were a lot more interesting than what you had to say, he was eager to hear about what you've been up to
your conversation persisted as you walked around the camp and as you arrived at the docks, another idea came to mind
suddenly, you cut yourself off mid-sentence, your gaze fixed on the water
“perce, you know, i can’t swim,” you mention, stepping on the wooden dock
“really?”
“really.”
it was quiet for a moment, and percy's expression was laced with confusion as you kicked off your shoes
you didn’t even care that you were wearing designer clothes, running straight off the dock and into the deep lake water
you heard percy yell your name right as your body completely submerges in the water
and it wasn't even more than 3 seconds before percy jumped in, one arm immediately wrapping around your waist to swim up to the surface with you
his baffled expression sent you into a fit of laughter
“what? why did you do that?!”
“cause i knew you’d come and get me.”
percy’s lips curved up into a smile, and you took the time to admire his features in the moonlight
you swore you saw his eyes flicker to your lips for a second, and the action made you hyper-aware of how close your noses were
"kiss me!" you thought in your head as you circled your arms around his neck, pulling him even closer
you could feel his admiration, the accelerated thump of his heart, the fluttering in his stomach that mimicked yours
the kiss you shared earlier was far too short for your liking, and you were already looking forward to the next opportunity to kiss him again
“i haven’t forgotten that i owe you a date.”
you smiled at his words, half-distracted at the proximity of his lips
“so it was a date all along?” you asked, and percy nods, amused
“you know, i was thinking now that there isn’t another big prophecy and the chances of me disappearing again aren’t likely, that, maybe, you and i could-”
“yes! gods, yes.” you cut him off, and percy laughs at your eagerness
you waited too long for the question that you couldn’t even let him finish asking
he isn’t able to say anything else as you pull him into a passionate kiss
it was as if the years of anticipation were being poured into the movement of your mouths
the kiss was long, growing in eagerness until the harpies had ruined your fun and the two of you had to run back to your cabins
a part of you had wished that all of this would have happened sooner
you had plenty of nights where you were stared at the ceiling with conflicted thoughts, wondering if you guys just weren't meant to be, if you somehow made up his attraction to you in your head, or if you should ask him out first and save yourself the potential regret
but when you returned to your cabin full of enthusiastic siblings asking why you were soaking wet and why your lipstick was smudged, you realized you wouldn’t have changed a single thing

And here’s a final birthday fic for a @thenixkat, in case the other two weren’t up to snuff.
Listen, I don’t know either, this is just how it’s going this year. Don’t expect these numbers to stay.
In which eggs happen and Devin is not a happy camper.
~~
“‘I should breed with Eva’, I said. ‘Those are some damn good genetics’, I said. Because I’m a fucking moron.” Huffing, Devin shifted about, focused on trying to move mass in a way that would make this whole thing easier. “Aggy was right, I’m the stupidest member of the family and going to get myself-” He cut himself off there. He was in a lot more pain than laying normally involved, he’d only managed one egg out of what he was pretty sure was three over the course of most of the day, and following some far too recently learned facts about human reproduction… Well. He was doing his best not to think about that sort of thing.
His wings flared out as he tried another push, an inkling of triumph shooting through him at finally getting some movement. Okay, whatever he’d just done, he needed to just keep doing that but more. Fuck. He was really starting to regret telling Eva to stop hovering and go do something useful with her time. But her aggressive worrying had only been stressing him out further. Still, much as he hated the idea, if this damn thing got stuck again he was going to have to call her back, if just for help trying to break it.
“This whole clutch better hatch,” he muttered to himself as he went back to moving mass around, pausing on occasion to push again, “better all live too.” Luckily, he seemed to have figured things out, and while the egg didn’t move much it did move. “All as smart and talented as Eva. Strong as Mother. Healthy and active.” Getting closer… “Successful, shining members of the community. Skilled hunters. Expect at least two dozen grandbabies. And somebody better become fucking Emperor.”
There.
Devin let himself flop down into the comfort of his nest as the egg slipped away, breathes coming deep and fast. He reached out to the single light present, for Eva’s sake more than anything, and drew enough electricity to make it flicker and dim. Again. Even with a small clutch, the eggs were big enough he’d had to stop eating nearly a week prior and he simply needed the energy to get through this. Normally it didn’t matter, even if you were laying a large clutch the eggs were small enough to be relatively easy to lay. These though, were several times the size of a standard egg. At least, the first one had been. As soon as he didn’t feel quite so much like he was dying, Devin took a deep breath and took a look at his handiwork.
It was an egg, properly shaped, mottled and speckled in various colors of metal and stone same as all the Ossy eggs that had come before it and would come after. Still, the problem was immediately evident. It was easily twice the size of the first one, which certainly explained things. Twice the size of an already massive egg, and with a second spot of light just visible within the shell. Because of fucking course. Of course, he’d damn near killed himself laying a twin egg. Those hardly ever hatched, and even when they did the grubs rarely lasted to their first birthday.
Felt sort’ve like running a marathon only to find the prize at the end was a baseball bat to the kneecaps.
“This is going to be fun to explain…” Heaving a sigh, Devin shook his head, moving the egg away from its sibling. If nothing else, he could lower the odds of it taking the others out with it. He certainly wasn’t doing this again, and he wanted grubs damnit. Once everything was secure, he turned his attention back to his work and laying the final egg.
With any luck he could at least hope for two healthy grubs.

The Daughter of the Sea - Chapter 7
Tumblr media
(Y/n)'s  POV
The next few days I settle into a routine that feels almost normal if you don't count the fact that I am getting lessons from satyrs, nymphs, and a centaur.
Each morning I take Ancient Greek with Annabeth, and we talk about the gods and goddesses in the present tense, which is kind of weird. I discover that Annabeth is right about my dyslexia: Ancient Greek isn't hard for me to read. At least, no harder than English. After a few mornings, I can read a few lines of Homer without too much headache.
The rest of the day, I'd rotate through outdoor activities, looking for something Percy and I are good at. Chiron tries to teach Percy archery, but the three of us find out pretty quickly that he isn't any good with a bow and arrow, but I find that I was pretty okay at it.
The only thing Percy and I excelled at is canoeing, and that isn't the kind of heroic skill people expect to see from the kids who had beaten the Minotaur.
I know the senior counselors are watching the two of us, trying to decide who our dad is, but they aren't having an easy time of it. Percy and I aren't as strong as the Ares kids, or as good at archery as the Apollo kids. I don't have Hepheastus's skill with metalwork or - gods forbid - Dionysus's with vine plants. Luke tells me and Percy one night that we might be children of Hermes, a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. But I get the feeling that he is just trying to make us feel better. He didn't know what to make of us either.
One day, I am out by the canoe lake, just sitting on the dock, when I look over my shoulder to see Annabeth walking down the dock. She silently sits down beside me.
"Whatcha thinking about?" Annabeth wonders and I gather my thoughts before speaking.
"What if I'm not good at anything? What happens if I never get claimed?" I look over, my sea-green eyes meeting Annabeth's stormy-gray eyes.
Annabeth's gaze is slightly sympathetic and when she answers, her response doesn't really make me feel better. "You'd stay in the Hermes cabin."
I nod before gazing down the calm water of the lake again.
. . .
Thursday afternoon, three days after I'd arrived at Camp Half-Blood, I have my first sword-fighting lesson. Everyone from Cabin Eleven gathers in the big circular arena, where Luke would be our instructor.
We start with basic stabbing and slashing, using some straw-stuffed dummies in Greek armor.
I can't feel a blade that feels right in my hands. Either they are too heavy, or too light, or too long. Luke tries his best to fix me up, but he agrees that none of the practice blades seem to work for me.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Annabeth and Chiron standing at the entrance of the arena.
We move to duel in pairs and Luke announces that he would be my partner, and Percy would have an older camper since it's our first time.
"Good luck," one of the campers tells me. "Luke's the best swordsman in the last three hundred years."
I face Luke, an uneasy expression on my face and he shoots me a reassuring smile.
3rd Person POV
Annabeth and Chiron watch (Y/n) and Luke's demonstration, and even Chiron is slightly interested as he watches (Y/n).
Luke thrusts his sword forward and (Y/n) instinctively sidesteps, and Luke, expecting to hit (Y/n)'s shield, stumbles forward.
Luke's eyes narrow and he presses her with more force.
(Y/n) steps forward and tries a thrust of her own and Luke deflects it easily.
The two's blades clash over and over again for a minute or so when the sword in (Y/n)'s hand grows heavy; the balance not quite right.
She tries the disarming maneuver that Luke had been talking about earlier.
(Y/n)'s blade hits the base of Luke's and she twists, putting her whole weight into a downward thrust.
Clang!
Luke's sword rattles against the stone; (Y/n)'s blade is an inch from his undefended chest.
The other campers are silent.
(Y/n) lowers her sword. "Sorry," she says sheepishly.
For a moment, Luke is too stunned to speak.
"Sorry?" his scarred face breaks into a grin. "By the gods, (Y/n), why are you sorry? Show me that again!"
This time, there is only a little bit of sparring before Luke hits the hilt of (Y/n)'s sword and sends it skidding across the floor.
After a long pause, someone in the audience says, "Beginner's luck?"
Luke wipes the sweat off his brow, appraising (Y/n) with an entirely new interest. "Maybe," he says. "But I wonder what (Y/n) could do with a balanced sword. . ."
. . .
Friday night, after dinner, there is a lot more excitement than usual.
At last, it's time for capture the flag.
When the plates are cleared away, the conch horn sounds, and all the campers stand at their tables.
Campers yell and cheer as Annabeth and two of her siblings run into the pavilion carrying a silk banner. It is about ten feet long, glistening gray, with a painting of a barn owl above an olive tree. From the opposite side of the pavilion, Clarisse and her buddies run in with another banner, of identical size, but gaudy red, painted with a blood spear and a boar's head.
Percy turns to Luke and yells over the noise, "Those are the flags?"
"Yeah."
"Ares and Athena always lead the teams?" (Y/n) asks curiously.
"Not always," he answers. "But often."
"So, if another cabin captures one, what do you do - repaint the flag?" Percy asks.
He grins. "You'll see. First, we have to get one."
Luke fives Percy a sly look, as if he knows something the other two don't. The scar on his face makes Luke look almost evil in the torchlight. "We've made a temporary alliance with Athena. Tonight, we get the flag from Ares. And you are going to help."
The teams are announced. Athena had allied with Apollo and Hermes, the two biggest cabins. Privileges had been traded —shower times, chore schedules, the best slots for activities—to win support.
Ares had allied themselves with everybody else: Dionysus, Demeter, Aphrodite, and Hephaestus. From what Percy'd seen, Dionysus's kids were good athletes, but there were only two of them. Demeter's kids had the edge with nature skills and outdoor stuff, but they weren't very aggressive. Aphrodite's sons and daughters he wasn't too worried about. They mostly sat out every activity and checked their reflections in the lake and did their hair and gossiped. Hephaestus's kids weren't pretty, and there were only four of them, but they were big and burly from working in the metal shop all day. They might be a problem. That, of course, left Ares's cabin: a dozen of the biggest, ugliest, meanest kids on Long Island, or anywhere else on the planet.
Chiron hammers his hoof on the marble.
"Heroes!" he announces. "You all know the rules. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items are allowed. The banner must be prominently displayed, and have no more than two guards. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed. I will serve as referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!"
He spreads his hand and the tables are suddenly coated in metal equipment: helmets, bronze swords, speaks, oxhide shields covered in metal.
"Whoa!" Percy says. "We're supposed to use these?"
Luke looks at him as if he's crazy. "Unless you want to get skewered by your friends in cabin five. Here — Chiron thought these would fit. You'll be on border patrol, (Y/n), you're with me, I want to see what you can do with that sword."
Luke hands (Y/n) a circular shield and she straps it onto her arm. She tests the weight of the shield and is satisfied with the fact that it's not too light or too heavy.
Annabeth yells, "Blue Team, forward!"
The Blue Team cheers and shakes their swords and follows her down the path to the south side of the woods. The Red Team yells taunts at them as they head off to the north.
Percy manages to catch up to Annabeth, (Y/n) at his heels, without Percy tripping over his heavy equipment.
"Hey," Percy says; Annabeth keeps marching. "So what's the plan?" he asks. "Got any magic items you can loan me?"
Annabeth's hand drifts towards her pocket, as if afraid he'd taken something.
"Just watch Clarisse's spear," she tells Percy. "You don't want that thing touching you. Otherwise, don't worry. We'll take the banner from Ares. (Y/n), come with me."
With a blink, the two girls had ran forward, leaving Percy in the dust. . . .
Once they're in positions, a conch horn blows, and (Y/n), who Annabeth had left with Luke, sneaks forward.
She moves forward a few yards and instinctively raises her shield against an Ares camper. (Y/n) thrusts her sword and the Ares camper sidesteps. Changing her momentum, (Y/n) does a spin, hitting the Ares camper in the stomach with her shield; the camper falls to the ground.
Feeling more confident in herself, (Y/n) slinks into the shadows, her shield and sword low as not to glow from any lights nearby.
(Y/n) makes it across the boundary into enemy territory and sneaks forward a few more yards until she hears Clarisse's voice, "Give him a haircut. Grab his hair."
(Y/n) changes direction, breaking into a run and then bursting from the line of trees.
The five Ares campers turn on her and three advance, Clarisse and another continuing to beat on Percy.
(Y/n) swings the flat of her sword and hits the first guy's head and he crumples to the ground.
Two other guys come at her and she slams her shield into one's face and uses her sword to shave off the horsehair plume on his helmet.
(Y/n) steps into the water and pulls her twin to his feet, feeling as though she'd eaten some of her mother's double espresso beans.
Clarisse and the fourth guy advance and the guy swing his sword, catching (Y/n)'s shield arm and leaving a huge cut, from her wrist to elbow.
Percy catches Clarisse's electric spear with the edge of his shield and sword and snaps it like a twig.
"Ah!" she yells. "You idiot! You corpse-breath worm!"
She probably would've said worse, but Percy smacks her between the eyes with his sword-but and sends her stumbling backward out of the creek.
Then the twins hear yelling, elated screams, and see Luke raising towards the boundary line with the red team's banner lifted high. He is flanked by a couple of Hermes guys covering his retreat, and a few Apollos behind them, fighting off the Hephaestus kids. The Ares folks get up and Clarisse mutters a dazed curse.
"A trick!" Clarisse screams. "It was a trick."
The Ares kids stagger after Luke, but it's too late. Everyone converges on the creek as Luke runs across into friendly territory. The Blue team explodes into cheers and the red banner shimmers and turns to silver. The boar and spear are replaced with a huge caduceus, the symbol of Cabin Eleven. Everyone on the Blue Team picks up Luke and starts carrying him around on their shoulders. Chiron canters out from the woods and blows the conch horn.
(Y/n)'s POV
The game was over. We'd won.
Percy and I are about to join the celebration when Annabeth's voice, right next to me in the creek, says, "Not bad, hero."
I look, an eyebrow quirked, but Annabeth isn't there.
"Where the heck did you learn to fight like that?" Annabeth asks. The air shimmers, and she materialized, holding a Yankees baseball cap as if she'd just taken it off her head.
"You set me up," Percy says, looking slightly angry. "You put me here because you knew Clarisse would come after me, while you sent Luke around the flank. You had it all figured out."
Annabeth shrugs, "I told you. Athena always, always has a plan."
"A plan to get my pulverized," Percy retorts.
"I came as fast as I could. I was about to step in . . ." she shrugs. "You didn't need help."
Then she notices my wounded arm. "How did you do that?"
"It's a sword cut," I respond. "Where do you think it came from?"
"No. It was a sword cut," Annabeth says. "Look at it."
I look down. The blood is gone; where the huge cut had been, there is a long white scratch, and even that is fading. As I watch, it turns into a small scar and disappears.
"I - I don't get it," I stutter.
Annabeth is thinking hard. I can almost see the gears turning. She looks down at my feet, then at Clarisse's broken spear, and says, "Step out of the water, (Y/n)."
"What -" I question.
"Just do it."
I step out of the creek and immediately feel bone tired. I almost fall over but Annabeth steadies me.
"Oh, Styx," she curses. "This is not god. I didn't want . . . I assumed it would be Zeus . . ."
Before I can ask what she means, I hear a canine grows.
A howl rips through the forest.
The campers' cheering dies instantly. Chiron shots something in Ancient Greek, "Stand ready! My bow!"
Annabeth draws her sword.
There on the rocks, just above us is a black hound the size of a rhino, with lava-red eyes and fangs like daggers.
And it's looking right at me.
Nobody moves except Annabeth, who yells, "(Y/n), run!"
She tries to step in front of me, but the hound is too fast. It leaps over her - an enormous shadow with teeth - and just as it hits me, as I stumble backward and feel its razor-sharp claws ripping through my armor.
There is a cascade of thwacking sounds, like forty pieces of paper being ripped one after another; from the hound's sprouts a cluster of arrows.
The monster falls dead at my feet.
By some miracle, I am alive. I don't want to look underneath the ruins of my shredded armor and sway a little. My chest feels warm and wet, and I know I am badly cut. Another second and the monster would've turned me into a hundred pounds of deli meat.
Chiron trots up next to us, a bow in his hand, his face grim.
"Di immortales!" Annabeth says softly. "That's a hellhound from the Fields of Punishment. They don't...they're not supposed to..."
"Someone summoned it," Chiron murmurs. "Someone inside the camp."
Luke comes over, the banner in his hand forgotten, his moment of glory gone.
Clarisse yells, "It's all Percy's fault! Percy summons it!"
"Be quiet, child," Chiron tells her.
We watch the body of the hellhound melts into the shadow, soaking into the ground as it disappears.
"You're wounded," Annabeth tells me. "Quick, (Y/n), get in the water."
I'm too tired to argue and I step back into the creek, the whole camp gathering around me.
Instantly, I fell better; I fell the cuts on my chest closing up.
Some of the campers gasp.
"Look, I - I don't know why," I say, trying to apologize. "I'm sorry . . ."
But they aren't watching my wounds heal, they're staring up at something above mine and Percy's heads.
"(Y/n), Percy," Annabeth says, pointing. "Um . . ."
By the time I look up, the sign is already fading, but I can still make out the hologram of green light, spinning and gleaming.
A three-tipped spear: a trident.
"Your father," Annabeth murmurs. "This is really not good."
All around me, campers start kneeling, even Ares cabin, though they don't look happy about it.
"Our father?" Percy asks, looking completely bewildered.
"Poseidon," says Chiron. "Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus and (Y/n) Jackson, Son, and Daughter of the Sea God."

(Y/N) (L/N) had a good reason to hate Jason Grace. How could she not? Jason was so annoying, self centred, selfish, stubborn and worse of all? He dated Piper McLean. Piper was great, (Y/N) knew that and they seemed happy together. But, still, he chose Piper, not (Y/N), his girlfriend back at Camp Jupiter, who he totally forgot about. How come Percy remembered Annabeth but Jason wouldn't remember (Y/N)? And when he recovered his memory, he chose Piper. But she also loved him still, and seeing him hurt like a bullet going straight through her heart. She decided to spend a year at Half-Blood Camp to stay with her half-brother Nico Di Angelo when Gaea were defeated. She thought she could manage to see him almost every day, but she couldn't. So she started doing anything to get her mind occupied. Going on meaningless quests, travelling to New York randomly, volunteering for literally any service in the camp and barely sleeping — because sleeping meant dreams.
"It doesn't have to be like that, (Y/N)." Her brother gave her another shot of Nectar. The sunlight that entered Hades' cabin was leaving slowly as they talked, (Y/N) leaned on her bed watching her fingertips become solid again.
"I'll learn how to do it right and I promise I won't push myself too much, but I can't stop practicing." She avoided eye contact with Nico, feeling ashamed of herself. After all, she was supposed to be the one taking care of him, since she was older. She came back from a "quest" for her father, that was staying a weekend on the Underworld. She started using Shadow Travel to get there. The problem? She had no idea how hard it was, and she almost died every time. He sighted.
"I'm not talking about Shadow Travel. You should talk to Jason and sort this out. You're almost killing yourself everyday doing the craziest stuff just to keep your mind off him. He already broke up with Piper, what's stopping you now? I'm your brother and it pains me to see you suffering, I won't just sit and watch while you literally desapear." He got up and walked to the door. The (h/c) girl forced a smile so he believed she was fine. Nico left the cabin.
After hours reflecting and thinking, she heard the trumpets that announced the convocation to a game of Capture the Flag. Since she was feeling better, she changed her clothes and walked outside. The teams were: cabins 1, 4, 5, 9, 12, 14, 18, 21, 23, 27, 28, 29 vs. cabins 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 20, 24, 25, 26. They started the game. (Y/N) had to protect the boundary with a kid from Hipnos' cabin while a group attacked the opponent's flag and another protected their territory and their flag. Everything was going as planned, she hadn't seen anyone yet. Out of the sudden, she saw a blond guy running in their direction with a sword. Oh hell no, Jason Grace wouldn't attack her like that. But he did.
"What the hell?!" She screamed, reacting to the blade flying in her direction. Her teammate was asleep. She defended herself with her own sword and counterattacked. He invested against her leg, trying to make her fall. Her instincts took place, she jumped, attacked again and they started a meaningless battle. Jason looked the same as always. He was almost the same Jason that used to take her on cute dates in New Rome. But he fought like a greek. And that was when it hit her, he changed. The mixture of love and hate made her loose her senses for a bit, giving Jason the lead. He focused on her leg but hesitated to hit it, giving her time to get back on the fight. She knocked him to the floor, her foot on his chest and her blade on his neck, when she heard footsteps approaching quickly. Of course. It was a trap. She turned around and saw a son of Hebe holding her team's flag running, followed by two daughters of Hephaestus. She grabbed a knife from her belt and threw it to his leg, hitting exactly where she wanted. She then grabbed Jason's blade and Shadow Travelled. For a moment everything was fine, while she drowned into darkness, but then she couldn't get out. She saw her father's face mixed in the dark. He raised his hand and touched her face, than she was back at the forest. Realising not even a second had gone through, she attacked the — injured — boy and the two gigantic girls at the same time. She wasn't really expecting to defeat them, just trying to win some time so, hopefully, someone would come help her. The boy dropped the flag and got a small sword. The two girls had hammers... oh. The three of them attacked at the same time and she protected herself with Jason's sword, which flew away. She was out of hopes when a figure appeared beside her and started fighting them.
"What are you doing here?! You're not supposed to help me, we're enemies, remember?" She said, fighting Hebe's son.
"I guess you're welcome then." Jason replied smiling, fighting the hammers-girls. (Y/N) sighted in annoyance. Seconds later, her teammates came running from the enemies' territory with a flag and the three-people group surrendered. Everyone started screaming and celebrating. (Y/N)'s head hurt with the noise and she looked to her brother, feeling numb.
"Hey, can we talk?" Jason said, getting in front of her with a big smile. He was proud of himself for helping her? Of course he was. He was going to take all the credit for her team's win. The anger rose inside of her burning everything. She furrowed her eyebrows and with the last energy that remained in her body, she tried to Shadow Travel for the perhaps hundredth time that day.
She fell into the darkness while feeling her body desapear quickly. Her heart was very accelerated but then it stopped. She saw herself at the barks of Lete's river. I'm dead., she thought. The desperation started taking over. She remembered the face of all her friends. Her siblings, Hazel and Nico. Her mother. Her best friend Reyna. Camp Jupiter. New Rome. The Lar Vitellius. Lares? Lares! Maybe she could go back as a ghost! She would at least see her friends again.
"Didn't expect to see you this soon." A voice said with humor. She turned around, as always enlighten by her father's presence. But his face was sad. Not the everyday-sad-Pluto, but the my-daughter-just-died-sad-Pluto.
"Am I d-... dead?" The anxiety forbid her from crying in front of her father. The one she never knew and once she did, she didn't want to disappoint him.
"Yes and no. You see, my darling, there are things more powerful then death. Right now, your physical being is exhausted from travelling through darkness and light — which I told you not to, but we'll talk about this later, you have a decision to make. You're body is surrendering to Death out of hopelessness. But your soul, on the other hand, still fights for the heart beating in your chest. And your conscious, the controller of both body and soul, has to decide which one of them you'll support right now. As Lord of the Death that's all I can say to you. But as your father, I would like to say that we have a room for you in the castle, if you'd like that. And also, I feel obligated to show you what is happening on Earth." When he finished his words, an image formed in the air, sort of an Iris message, but no one saw them. (Y/N) saw herself laying on the grass, surrounded by some campers, Nico and Jason.
She was watching them from above. Jason put two fingers on her neck, trying to feel her pulse. She — the one in the Underworld — gasped as the blond boy whispered 'nothing'. She glanced at her father, who had a pained expression as he stared at Nico freaking out. Her brother had his hands on her chest and was murmuring something in greek. Then, he opened his eyes, filled with tears of desperation, and glanced at Jason, who didn't look any better. She wanted to scream and go back to up there, but her voice wouldn't come out of her throat.
"Half of her is already gone." Nico struggled to say. Everyone around gasped. "I can't Shadow Travel with her, it- it would k-kill the other half..."
"Let's take her to the Infirmary. Everything's gonna be fine. She'll be okay." Will Solace had appeared in the crowd and kneed down to take (Y/N) in the arms, being helped by the other two. As they walked, (Y/N) held herself in her arms, sobbing. She didn't want to die, not like that. The image faded away and Pluto hugged her. He never did that before. She left out all her emotions through the cry. Her father caressed her back and gently kissed the top of her head.
"Now you see, my child, what those on Earth are going through. You have a family up there. And if you'd ask me, Jason Grace is a good person, even being a son of my brother. You have a choice, so make it wisely." Pluto said, not backing away from the hug. She nodded and he immediately knew what her choice was. "You know I'd love to have you here with me, but I'd love even more to see you happy. Don't be reckless. And listen to your brother. You don't have to worry to come see me, I'll make sure to visit you during your recovery." As he said that, a white door appeared out of nowhere. "Here's your carpool." The girl started to walk to the door, when she heard Pluto say: "(Y/N) I lo-... Good luck." She smiled to him and went through into the door. It felt like eons in the nothingness. She felt so much pain all over her body. Then she gained conscience. She didn't knew how long it had passed. She also couldn't open her eyes or say anything, but she knew she was laying down something comfortable, a bed, perhaps. But she could hear perfectly well.
"... and I'm so sorry you had to die for me to gain the courage to say this. Please come back to us... Come back to me. Nico barely leaves this room and nor do I, Will had to force him to go eat. It's not the same without you, (Y/N/N), it really isn't." Jason's words gave her the urge to cry, but she couldn't. It was like her body had shutdown completely. She felt his warm hands on her cold ones and after that, a door was opened. Footsteps. Only one person. Jason didn't move. Someone sat down next to them.
"Dad- I mean, Hades said she will be okay." It was Nico's voice. He sounded extremely tired.
"Didn't he say that last month?" Grace was annoyed, but he didn't stop holding her hand.
"I know, I wish I could do more... I'm... I'm sorry Jason." The blond sighted.
"I should be the one to be saying that. I know there's nothing else to do. I'm sorry for putting the blame on you. It's just- if we've talked before, nothing of this would have happened. If only I was brave enough..." (Y/N) felt weak and her consciousness was back at nothing again. When she heard something again, it looked like a lot of time had passed by, but she wasn't sure at all. Jason's voice was happy as he told her his plans to the future.
"I realised you would like to work with me training the legion. You're obviously skilled and the payment is quite good. And I've heard they are planning to build a village here as well, but I don't know if you-..." Every time she tried to stay conscious, she felt weaker. 'Rest', her father's voice said inside of her head, so she let herself.
Some time...? A long time...? She didn't knew. But the next time she heard, she was way stronger. She waited until then, so she could stay longer and try to understand her emotions. She heard almost an entire day. Her friends entered and left cabin 13 — she found out that she was there. Some of them talked "to" her, some just sat there in silence. When alone, Nico talked a lot about Will Solace. (Y/N) smiled mentally. Then Jason entered. She could already recognise the sound he made walking. He sat beside her bed and held her hand, as usual.
"Hello, princess. You look better." She reunited all the strength she had storage and sent it all to her right hand. She softly squeezed Jason's hand, for a small portion of second, trying to say 'hi'. She felt exhausted. He gasped.
"She just squeezed my hand!" He screamed, laughing. Nico jumped out of his bed, laughing as well. They both stared at her, waiting for more. "You're there, right? I knew you were! It's been long months, but you're getting better. Don't work too hard. We'll see each other soon, don't worry." He kissed her forehead. After that, it was easy for her to let go and dive into her sleep again.
She was slowly getting better. She noticed her comas were smaller now, and she got stronger every time. She started communicating by squeezing people's hand. One time for 'yes' and two times for 'no'. But it still was exhausting. She met with her father a couple times through dreams, but it never lasted long. She was sick of it. She wanted to jump out of the bed and run through all the camp. She was alone with Jason, as he talked about the last time he went to Camp Jupiter, telling every change. She slowly forced herself to open her eyes. It wasn't for too long, just enough for her to see the big smile he had while talking, her favourite blond hair and how he gesticulated while speaking. By that time, her feelings were completely lined. She declined her childishness and stubbornness to accept the fact that she obviously loved him. Her lips were able to form a small smile. He hadn't noticed her yet. I can do this, she thought.
"J." She whispered for the first time in five months. Her eyes were already closed again. He gasped.
"Did you just say J? That's me! I'm here, i'm right here, love. Can you hear me?" She squeezed his hand one time. Yes. He chortled. "You're so strong. I miss you so much." He started softly crying. She squeezed his hand two times. No. Don't cry, she wanted to say. "Alright, 's fine, 's fine. Gods, you're coming back. I bet Aphrodite is watching us closely." He chuckled but suddenly stopped. "I forgot we haven't talked about that yet, i'm sorry. I don't wanna be intrusive, you know. It's just, by what Nico has told me, well, you still liked me." She squeezed two times. "That's... that's great, love. But don't worry about that just yet. You should take some rest now, my love."
Five days. She had woken up every single one of them, but only listening. No squeezes, no talking, no looking. Just storing strength. She knew she was close to fully waking up. She was already able to keep track of the days. It was a Sunday, the day she received the most visits. It should be morning, because she only heard Nico's snorting. She slowly opened her eyes. The same place. Different clothes. She wondered who had changed them. Perhaps Will did. She systematically moved her arms, pushing herself to sit. Her back was laying at wall. She took a deep breath. It was going fine. She wanted to wake Nico up, but she decided to wait to see if she would be able to actually stay awake. About an hour later, Nico woke up by himself. He yawned and turned to her bed. She looked at him with a big smile. He jumped out of bed.
"Holy shit, (Y/N)! You're up! How- Wait! I need to- Wait! Don't fall asleep, I'll be right back!" She blinked slowly to sign 'ok'. He was back moments running later with a bunch of teenagers in pyjamas. They all froze at the door, staring at her. Hazel, Frank, Annabeth, Percy, Jason and even Piper. Hazel was the first one to wake up from the trance. She ran to her sister and hugged (Y/N).
"Ouch." She managed to say, reacting to the tight hug that made her head hurt.
"Right, sorry! I forgot. Wait, you speak!" Hazel answered and laughed. All of the others joined in, amazed by her friend, and started talking, telling everything she had missed. (Y/N) couldn't speed properly, only a few words like 'hi', 'ow', 'miss' and 'food'. Later that day, Will came to check on her. He said everything looked just fine, but that she should rest.
"Hey." Zeus' son said, once they were alone.
"Hi."
"Gods, it's so good to finally hear you again. I've talked to myself for a long time." They giggled softly. (Y/N) wasn't showing any signs of it, but that day had been extremely tiring. Her entire body hurt but she couldn't give up just yet.
"I... heard." She whispered. "A bit." Her eyes tried to close but she opened them wide, fighting her own nature. Jason noticed that.
"Hey, no need to over do it.” He brushed her cheek with his thumb.
"Sleep... here." She begged, placing her hand beside her. He froze for a moment, embarrassed. And then, with a rubor across his face, he sat on the bed beside her. She laid her head on his chest and quickly fell asleep.
“Go to sleep, love. We have all the time in the world.”

Rachel, Bianca and Octavian never really did anything wrong, so please stop hating on them for one second.
(Although it's nice to see white characters getting hate for just existing rather than poc characters, for once.)
Rachel:
You have no clue how much this one annoys me, and it's amplified by the fact that 90% of Rachel hate is from Annabeth stans. She literally just had a crush on Percy, then went out with him?! Y'all Annabeth stans get crushes on Percy all the time, then hate on her when she does? If you can't stand on one side of a line, then don't draw it in the first place. It's that simple.
In addition, when you look at her relationship with Annabeth, Rachel rarely (hell, maybe not at all) is the one to start arguments or insult her. Rachel seems pretty chill in her relationship with Percy, and then when Annabeth starts dating him instead, do you know what she does? She gets on with her life. Considering the amount of hate Annabeth gave her for dating Percy, she 100% is entitled to do the same, but she doesn't. She knows when a fight isn't worth having. And it's not like she doesn't like Percy, anymore, either. The way she acts suggests she doesn't really get over him until toa, meaning she goes more than an entire series suppressing the urge to bite back.
Bianca:
The main reason people give Bianca hate is because she 'abandoned' Nico to join the hunters. First off, let's be real, 90% of us would've done exactly the same thing. Joining the Hunters of Artemis is an opportunity she probably would've never gotten again, and she wasn't exactly given much time to think it over. She clearly wanted it, too. A younger sibling weighing you down shouldn't be the reason you deny your dreams (no matter how much of an avid Nico stan I am).
Because she was a few years older than Nico, Maria's death would've had a lot more of a negative impact on her, and not knowing who she was mourning would've made it ten times worse. From the way she acts before she joins the hunters, she was genuinely still mourning her, but suppressing it for Nico's sake. It's little details you can pick up on such as the fact that she is very quite and a little uneasy around people besides Nico. By comparison, Nico is very excitable and enthusiastic. When Greek mythology is mentioned, Bianca becomes very uncomfortable and is very quick to deny it's existence. I suspect this triggers her memories slightly of Hades, and she obviously would not like him very much after he essentially abandoned them when Maria died (that's what abandonment actually looks like). I like to think that Nico hadn't completely registered the fact that his mother was genuinely dead before their memories were wiped, hence why this doesn't affect them.
Bianca probably is going to try to isolate herself from her parentage, and one of the quickest ways of doing this is to join the hunters. If you're an older sibling like me, then you'll also know that a younger sibling's very existence can be embarrassing at times. Of course she'll want to isolate herself from her entire family. Not to mention the fact that she has been single parenting Nico since Maria died, again, thanks to a Greek God, the likes of which she already doesn't want to associate herself with. Before you complain that Artemis, too, is a Greek God, her whole thing is not needing men? Oh, would you look at that: the whole reason Maria is dead is because she fell for Hades, and Zeus was a dick about it. Joining the hunters is most definitely going to help her cope with the fact that Hades and Zeus are arseholes (Hades not so much, but Bianca will see him as more of one, considering she was essentially betrayed after Maria died).
Lastly, Bianca wasn't abandoning Nico. They had both just been told if a safe place they could go due to their parentage, and therefore Bianca had just been told that Nico would be safe. She wasn't to know that he would run away. Whilst he had a kinda valid excuse, it was still on their hands. Bianca had no control over that. It's not like she wasn't looking out for him, either; she literally went out of her way to collect the Hades statue for them, which was penultimately the reason she died (sorry). She knew the risks, and outright sacrificed her life just to make Nico happy.
Octavian:
You're all going to hate me for this one, I know. Just hear me out.
The only reason you all hate him is because he stabbed Percy's pillow pet, and was a bit of a dick to Hazel. Whilst neither Percy nor Hazel should've had to put up with this, when you consider what we can assume about his past, and that it actually makes sense. Straight away, he's a year round camper, so there is a high chance that he's lost one or multiple parents (remember that he's a descendant of Apollo, not than a child of Apollo). He probably hasn't had much of an opportunity to grieve them, strikingly similar to Nico's reaction at the end of ttc, particularly when you consider how strict Camp Jupiter is. Not to mention, it's been proven time after time again that if someone can't control their own life, they will put extra emphasis on what they can control, the two major ones being their eating and the people around them.
That last bit brings me onto my second point. You get the impression that he has been through quite a lot, so of course he tries to control the people around him as a means to cope. He becomes so engulfed in this desire to control everyone that he doesn't consider how it might affect others. From his perspective, why should he? No one seemed to care about him. It doesn't occur to him that blackmailing Hazel is- well- blackmail. He becomes so determined to prove himself, despite not being a child of a Roman God, but a descendant. As you can imagine, when he first joined, the camp probably looked down on him quite a lot.
In fact, he seems to be so aware of the Camp's protocols, there is a high chance that he, like Jason, has been there most of his life. When you consider it's principles, it makes sense that his main goal would be to reach the top of the pecking order. That is the way that they are taught; they're Roman demigods, after all.
Before you start on the killing of Percy's pillow pet being unfair, I'd just like to point a few things out. Yes, it was a bit if a dick move, but Percy had just waltzed into a camp, been claimed as a son of a major (although frowned upon) God, and threatened his authority. Octavian was genuinely scared of him. He was probably 100% aware that stabbing his pillow pet would do nothing, but did he look like he cared? Not only was he trying to back up his authority in doing so, it was essentially sending a message to Percy of "if you dare threaten my position, you'll face a lot worse than this. Whilst it may have been a bit of an overreaction, honestly, fair enough.

Luz’s mother really doesn’t want to send Luz to camp. She knows once she leaves, there is no going back. But Luz has a knack for getting into trouble, and one day she stumbles into the same type of people her mother would have preferred she avoided. After helping Luz dissolve her high school bully into dust, Eda and Lilith know right away that this kid is just like them - a child of the gods. So Luz hops on a Pegasus and heads to Camp Half-blood, where she embarks on a dangerous quest that makes her both friends and enemies... and she might even save Olympus along the way.
Chapter Thirty Five: The Gods and I Make Good on Our Promises
Campers swarmed Luz and her friends the second the chariot touched ground right along the beach.
Luz spotted her half-siblings right away. Viney and Jerbo pushed their way through to the front and immediately got the crowd to back up, giving Eda and Lilith some space to step out of the chariot first. Lilith went first, and as Eda slipped past her she stopped for a moment in front of Luz, extended her hand, and dropping a small bronze item in her palm. Luz looked down, her eyes widening in shock.
“The hand buzzer!” She thought for sure she’d lost it when Belos knocked it out of her hand and the mountain collapsed.
Eda shot her a wink. “I found it on the floor of Mount Pelion while you were in the Underworld. You seem to be making good use of it, so it’s yours to keep.”
“Eda…” Luz wasn’t sure what to say, the lump in her throat stopping her from trying anything else.
“You did good, kid,” Eda said, reaching down to ruffle her hair. “Don’t lose it again.”
“I won’t,” Luz promised, as Eda stepped out from the chariot and onto the beach.
The chatter was loud; Luz had never seen the camp buzz with the amount of tension and excitement that seemed to be vibrating through the crowd. They were peering up on their toes to try and get a look inside the chariot despite Lilith and Eda doing their best to get a grip on the crowd, and suddenly, Luz felt very nervous.
She’d fought a white eagle and the Minotaur, gone to the Underworld and back, and large crowds still made her anxious. Go figure.
Luz let her gaze flicker back to Amity, who still had her eyes closed on the stretcher, her chest rising and falling gently. She hadn’t woken up at all the entire ride back, and they’d left mid-morning. It was likely almost dinnertime now, and she’d only stirred once the whole ride, just opening her mouth slightly when they’d hit a bit of turbulence flying around Chicago.
Luz felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Willow and Gus shooting her knowing smiles. Willow squeezed her once, and despite their own battered clothes and travel-worn appearances, Luz imagined she looked a thousand times worse.
Not exactly the most heroic-looking way she could have returned.
“She’s going to be okay, Luz,” Willow encouraged. “She just needs to rest.”
“Yeah, and I saw Aphrodite do some of her sleeping charms on her before we left,” Gus added with a shrug. “While the effects are really relaxing, they don’t encourage you to rise quickly. She might sleep the whole night.”
“I’m not worried about her,” Luz started, only to cut herself off when she realized that wasn’t true in the slightest. “Well, I mean I am, especially with everything that happened with…” Luz gestured vaguely, and thankfully Willow and Gus got the message because they just nodded seriously.
“It’s that she’s not awake for this,” Luz continued with a bite of her lip, upset Amity wasn’t awake to feel the excitement around their return. She was, after all, one of the main reasons Luz was still alive to tell the tale. It’s the chance for glory she’d been looking for, the whole reason her parents were so hard on her and their image. She’d succeeded, and here she was passed out in the back of Luz’s dad’s chariot.
The hand on her shoulder tightened, but the smile on Willow’s face softened. “I know you’re worried, but it’s out of our hands now. We should just focus on making sure the camp knows everything is okay, and that Hestia has returned to Olympus.”
“Yeah!” Gus grinned. “You saved the world, Luz!”
“We saved the world,” Luz corrected, finally letting herself feel something for the first time in days that wasn’t fear, exhaustion, or grief. Her friends were right. Amity might not be awake to see their return to camp, but at least they had returned. And she couldn’t have done it without Willow and Gus. “You two totally saved my butt back there after I fell through the portal, and in the armory, and like, a hundred other times. Thank you. I couldn’t have asked for better quest companions or better friends.”
She pulled her friends in for a tight group hug, all three of them grinning despite the tears in their clothes and the dirt on their faces.
“Kid?”
Luz looked up from the top of Gus’s head and say Eda leaning back into the chariot with an expectant look. Her gold eyes were flashing with that same mirth they had when Hermes had claimed her during capture the flag, and while it had almost been a month, it felt like no time had passed at all. She gestured out to the open beach with one hand.
“You’re glorious arrival awaits,” she said, her mouth curving into her signature toothy grin.
With one last look of encouragement from her friends, Luz stepped out onto the beach.
The excitement of it all was a total blur. From the initial time she stepped out to the campers cheering to later that night at the dining pavilion, she was getting pats on the back and playful punches on the arm, and comments from campers of all cabins for the rest of the day. Led by Viney, her siblings from the Hermes cabin and Gus and Willow’s from Athena and Demeter’s cabins lifted them onto their shoulders and paraded them from the beach to the dining hall, leaving Luz and her friends more than a little red in the cheeks.
Viney and Jerbo assured her that she hadn’t missed much in terms of activities, but that they were excited to have her back for capture the flag again. The talking head of Hooty zoomed over from the Big House to chatter nonstop into her ear about the chimera that the campers had killed after it set his house on fire.
Skara and the Apollo campers checked her over for any injuries, giving her a small glass of nectar to keep her strength up. Skara’s leg had completely healed from the last break Luz remembered her having, and while the white-haired camper that had originally gone of the quest with Amity had never really taken a shine to Luz before, she now seemed much more open to being friendly. After a delicious but exhausting dinner in the pavilion where Luz, Willow, and primarily Gus, gave exciting recounts of their adventures and the monsters they slew, she escorted Luz to the infirmary and patched up her knees, and changed the bandages around her stomach, chatting quietly to her about her own adventures on the original quest.
Amity was in the infirmary too, where every once in a while Skara would lean over and check on her. The anxiety must have shown on Luz’s face because while she dipped some nectar against the wounds along the sides of Amity’s neck, she shot Luz a comforting smile.
“A lot of the bigger wounds Lilith told me to watch out for have almost disappeared entirely while she’s been sleeping. It’s like the gods themselves have been watching over her healing.”
Luz resisted a smile by biting the inside of her cheek. If only she knew.
They hadn’t exactly told the entire camp that Amity had… well, died. Just that Amity and Luz had gone together to the Underworld to close the portal from the other side. There was a sort of unspoken rule that some things were better kept under wraps, for everyone’s sake.
Edric and Emira had also been dutifully watching over Amity since she’d been carried to the infirmary. They’d had to be assured multiple times she was okay, and only after Luz promised them that Aphrodite had insisted she’d be fine did they seem to relax. Since they’d missed the original retelling of their quest in the pavilion, Luz gave them a shortened version of what had happened, being careful not to give away too much information about their other mother Odalia or how Amity had fallen down the cliffs.
When she got to the part about crashing the prom, something on her face must have given her away, because Emira leaned in, her eyes sparkling with something that immediately made Luz nervous.
“So you and mittens went to prom… together?”
“I mean…” Luz sputtered, her cheeks heating up. “It was for the cover story and all, but yeah I guess she was my date…”
“Was it romantic?” Emira cooed, bringing her hands up to cup her own cheeks with a smile. “Did you dance? Did you kiss?”
“I…” Luz was sure the blush was spreading right to the tips of her ears as Skara chuckled next to her, patting nectar over a gash on her upper arm. “Not at prom, no…”
Edric’s grin turned almost maniacal. “So you did kiss though?”
Still stuttering and blushing profusely, Luz rushed the rest of her quest story, going over what had happened with the sow and then later in the chamber with Belos. When she finished, Emira and Edric were both grinning from ear to ear, and thank the gods' Willow took that moment to come in and ask Skara for some wraps for her own injuries, effectively ending whatever torture the twins were going to put Luz through.
With a hasty goodbye, she went to get up and head back to her cabin for what was hopefully the chance to sleep for three whole days, before she spared one more glance back at Amity.
“Skara? If she wakes up tonight, do you think somebody could come let me know?”
There was a gleeful series of chuckles from Edric and Emira, but thankfully Skara just smiled. “Sure. I’ll make sure one of my siblings wakes you up.”
Luz went back to her bunk and slept well through the night and into the next afternoon, but still, Amity didn’t wake up. After being assured by the Apollo campers she just needed rest, she spent the next day relaxing on Eda and Lilith’s orders, hanging out with Willow and Gus on the beach, and making sure she took the time to call her Mami on the camp phone and let her know all about her quest.
What started as plans for a twenty-minute conversation turned into one that lasted a few hours. The second she picked up the phone, she could hear her Mami’s hysterical voice over the other end.
“Luz? Is that you? Are you okay!?”
She was quick to calm her down, reassuring her she was in fact okay and that she was safe back at camp. Once the initial panic subsided, she exploded, shouting furiously in a mix of Spanish and English so fast Luz could barely catch it all.
“Luz, how could you scare me like that?! Do you have any idea how worried I was after you sent that text? ¡Casi me diste un infarto! And then I find out that you’ve been gone for almost two weeks? ¡No te puedo creer!”
Eventually, she was able to calm her down by apologizing profusely, assuring her again she was okay and telling her a slightly adjusted story about the quest and what happened. Her Mami still wasn’t very happy with her, but she had stopped shouting and seemed to feel better after knowing why the quest was so important, and that Luz had friends to protect her along the way.
When she mentioned meeting Hermes, for just a moment her Mami was silent. Luz was afraid she’d lost her and she’d hung up, and after calling her name multiple times her Mami finally seemed to snap out of whatever trance she’d been in.
“You saw your father?”
Luz recounted the story and how Hermes had helped her defeat Belos, hesitantly going over how he helped her travel to the Underworld to make it happen. Her Mami hummed in annoyance at that, now having figured out Luz was sugar-coating the whole event, but by the time she’d finished, she seemed to have completely calmed down.
“Well, I’m not happy you lied to me, but I’m glad you’re okay. What about those friends you told me about? Are they okay too?”
Luz quickly assured her that they were fine, more than happy to gush about them. Her Mami quickly commented how helpful and kind Willow seemed to be, and how smart and charismatic Gus was.
“I can’t wait for you to meet them, Mami,” Luz said. “Do you think they can visit us in New York sometime this year?”
“I’d love to have your friends over some time,” she replied. “Especially that Amity, though I think we’re going to have to establish some house rules before she comes to visit.”
Though she was clearly teasing, Luz couldn’t help the blush that erupted across her cheeks as she stuttered out a quick protest. She heard her Mami laugh on the other end of the phone.
“Relax, Luz. I’m just joking.”
Luz did her best to quickly wrap up the conversation after that, promising to send her pictures and text her more often now that she was back at camp. After promising one more time to be careful and not go on any more quests, Luz hung up the phone and went to meet Willow and Gus by the volleyball courts.
When she got there, she saw them standing near one of the nets, face to face with Boscha.
The Ares camper was looking surprisingly bashful, her arm rubbing the back of her neck nervously. Gus looked completely confused, his eyes widening in surprise when Willow leaned in and placed a comforting arm on her shoulder, muttering something Luz couldn’t hear.
As she approached, she turned to Luz, the same uncharacteristically tight grimace on her face directed towards her as it had been to Willow and Gus.
“Hey…” Luz started, feeling just as bewildered as Gus looked.
“Hey.” Boscha cleared her throat. “Look, I just wanted to… apologize for the way I treated you guys. It wasn’t cool, and my dad said you guys did good on your quest. So, you know. Good job. You have my respect.”
“Uh,” Luz looked to Willow and Gus nervously before shrugging her shoulders. “Thanks, Boscha.”
The daughter of Ares cleared her throat one more time before sticking her hands in her pockets. “It’s whatever. See you later.”
As she walked away, Luz spun around to look at Willow and Gus with wide eyes. “What was that all about?”
“I think after Ares showed up, Boscha and her siblings might have had a bit of a change of heart towards us,” Willow said with a thoughtful hum. Luz’s eyebrows nearly shot into her hairline.
“Ares was here?”
“Yeah!” Gus said, his shocked expression now faded as a massive smile split across his face. “He appeared right on the beach not long after you left and took all his kids on a hunting trip out in the forest.”
“Hestia must be making good on her promise to you, Luz,” Willow added, her own excitement splitting across her face.
Willow was right because over the next two days Luz saw more gods than she ever thought she’d see in her entire lifetime. After Ares, Apollo appeared on the beach and played a few rounds of basketball with his sons and daughters before showing them a few tricks on his lyre. She didn’t see him personally, but Hephaestus apparently popped into the forge after dinner and helped his kids make some new swords for the armory. The next morning, she saw Nike playing volleyball with her eight daughters, and Dionysus growing strawberries with his five kids up in the fields.
One by one, all the gods started showing up and officially introducing themselves. The energy in the camp was unlike one that Luz had ever seen. For the first time in a long time, it felt like the campers actually felt connected to their godly parents.
When Demeter and Athena showed up together, Luz was sitting with Willow and Gus under a shady tree near the pavilion. They were chatting about the upcoming game of capture the flag when two women suddenly appeared with a flash twenty feet from them.
The campers around them jumped with shock, and Willow and Gus looked spellbound, getting to their feet and looking younger than Luz had ever seen them.
The one on the right was almost six feet tall, dressed in full armor, brandishing a massive spear. The one on the right was in a white dress with gold trim and had a twist of what looked like solid gold leaves wrapped into a crown on her head.
“Hello, my boy,” Athena said to Gus, her voice smooth and silky. The resemblance between them was almost uncanny. They had the same dark curls and skin, the same sloped nose, the same stance when they held their spear. The only difference Luz could really see was their eye color. Gus’ eyes were a soft brown, and Athena’s were a startling grey.
Luz had never seen Gus so speechless.
“Willow, I am so proud of you,” Demeter said, her dark brown hair cascading over her shoulders as she extended her arms in greeting. Unlike the difference between Athena and Gus, Willow’s eyes matched Demeter’s exactly.
Willow swallowed hard, looking like she was going to cry, so Luz took that moment to excuse herself, bowing respectfully to the two goddesses. She headed back to the Hermes cabin, where she grabbed her sketchbook and walked over to the infirmary to check on Amity.
When she entered, Bo was leaning over her, examining the wound on her shoulder. When she saw Luz walk in, she nodded in greeting.
“She seems okay. Her wounds have recovered, it’s just a matter of waiting for her to wake up.”
“It’s been almost three whole days,” Luz said, worrying her lower lip. “Shouldn’t she have woken up by now?”
“Not necessarily,” Bo said with a shrug. “With the state she was in when she fell, it’s no wonder she might need some time to recover.”
Luz wanted to tell her that she didn’t know exactly what had happened and that Amity had been through much worse than what she’d been told, but she figured that wouldn’t do any good. If Amity needed more time then Luz would wait until she was ready.
“Can you sit with her for a little? I’m going to go restock supplies.”
Luz nodded quickly, and Bo exited, giving her instructions on what to do if Amity woke while she was gone. When they were alone, Luz plopped into a chair next to her, gently combing some of the hair out of Amity’s face before opening up her sketchbook.
“I promised you that we’d draw together when we got back to camp,” she started, picking up her pencil and sketching a few lines. “This isn’t exactly how I’d imagined our first date to go, but sometimes you have to improvise.”
She started drawing a few of the adventures she, Willow, and Gus had had early on in their quest, describing some of the events to Amity since she hadn’t been there to see them. She described the flower crowns that Antheia had given them and their first encounter with Theseus on the bus to Kansas. Then, when she was done that sketch, she drew their encounter with the Minotaur, and then all of them in their clothes that they’d worn to crash the Hexside prom.
They weren’t the best sketches she’d ever done, but she wasn’t exactly trying too hard. It was just something to keep her hands busy and do her best not to think about Amity lying next to her asleep.
She’d heard Bo come back and restock a couple of supplies but left again soon after since Luz was keeping watch. Luz continued to draw and talk, burning through sketch after sketch until the sun was low in the sky. She was probably missing dinner, but she wasn’t feeling all that hungry anyway, so she kept at it despite the burn in her wrist. She drew Demophon and his farmhouse, and then the Crommyonian Sow. When she finished the sketch of her super awesome signature move, she found herself distracted by the sun filtering in through the window on the bottom of Amity’s face. She stopped talking, just sketching absently as she worried. Amity really had been through a lot. Would she be the same person Luz remembered her to be? Or would her experience in the Underworld away from her body chance her? If she was okay, would the way Luz had behaved in her parents’ house permanently mess up her home life? Would her parents even accept her back into their house once the summer was over?
As she worried about this, she looked down and realized that while she’d been thinking, she’d been drawing. It was Amity when they were together in the mountain right before Luz had gone to free Hestia. She had been staring back at Luz, her gold eyes that bronze color from the effect of Peleus’ weapons. It was right before she’d kissed her, and right before she’d fallen from the mountain.
Amity had kissed her. After everything they’d been through, she’d sacrificed herself so that Luz would be able to go on, finish their mission, and save Olympus. But it was more than that, and sitting here with Amity and reflecting on the quest they’d completed together, Luz felt like she finally understood.
Amity had sacrificed herself not just for Olympus, but for her.
Luz put her sketchbook down in her lap and reached across the cot to gently take Amity’s hand. It was warm, a much better sign than it had been the last time she touched it. Back in the mountain, it had been ice cold.
Luz was used to being alone. She’d been alone for a long time, an outcast, the weird kid, who had weird things happen to her. Then, she’d found Eda and Lilith and been able to embrace who she was. She was a half-blood, a part of something much bigger than her. She’d made friends, and met her father, and destroyed a very terrible person who wanted to do terrible things to her new home.
Amity had always known she was a demigod. She’d always known what she was supposed to do, and the person she was supposed to be. And she gave that up, to protect Luz.
It was a very surreal feeling, the warmth that spread across her chest at that thought. Luz was very lucky to have someone like Amity in her life.
When she woke up, she was going to make sure Amity knew just how lucky she was to have her.
Luz didn’t remember falling asleep sometime during dinner, resting her head against the edge of Amity’s cot and slumping over in the chair. But when she woke up suddenly just as the sun was setting, she still felt Amity’s warm hand in hers. But there was something else, too. A tiny squeeze, just around her fingers.
Luz’s head shot up quickly. “Amity?”
Slowly, but surely, she heard Amity take a deep breath, before blinking her eyes open. Her gold eyes scanned the infirmary in confusion, before they settled onto Luz’s face, her mouth slightly ajar. “Luz?”
“You’re awake!” Luz stood up, and the chair behind her skidded backward. “Are you in any pain?”
“I… I’m fine, I think,” she said, swallowing as she tried to sit up. Luz helped her, resting her hand on her lower back as she lifted into a more upright position. “No pain. Are we… back at camp? How did we get here?”
Luz nodded quickly, her heart hammering with relief as she realized that Amity was in fact okay, and seemed to remember everything. She filled her in as quickly as she could about what had happened, and when she was done she stood up, unsure what to do with all the relief and joy she was feeling at once.
“I have to go get Bo, I told her I would when you woke up. And oh my gods, your siblings. They’ve been so worried, everyone has been, they’ll be so happy you’re okay-”
“Luz, wait.”
Luz froze right in her tracks, looking back at her. Amity was staring at her with an unsure expression, gripping her wrist tightly.
“Just… can you wait a moment? I think I need a minute.”
“Sure! What do you need? Bo said you should drink some nectar, and I have a blanket here if you’re cold. You’re supposed to be taking it easy too-”
She was rambling and she knew it. She couldn’t really help it, she was in this weird middle ground between not knowing how to behave around her and wanting to hug her for hours. She went to go grab something from the medical cabinet before Amity started laughing, holding up her hand.
“Luz, relax, please. I’m fine right now, I promise.”
Luz pulled the chair up and sat back down, intertwining her hands nervously. “I didn’t mean to be like… too much. It’s just like… you were dead and… I’m just so happy to see that you’re okay.”
Amity’s cheeks tinted, and Luz watched a small smile pull at her lips. “You’re not too much, Luz. I’m happy that you’re okay too.”
There was a moment of silence between them, where Luz and amity just stared at one another before Luz broke the silence by clearing her throat nervously.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You were asleep for like, three days.”
“Three days?” Amity gasped, and Luz nodded.
“Yeah. I was starting to get really worried.”
Amity was silent for a moment, her brain whirling the way Luz knew it did when she was conflicted about what she wanted to say.
“I mean, I’m pretty sure I’m okay. I remember everything that happened in the Underworld and jumping through the portal. Then, there was this cold hand that grabbed me, and a few moments where… I don’t know. It was like everything just turned off and all I could hear was silence. It wasn’t scary though."
Luz nodded, relieved Amity hadn't had a horrible experience while being stuck as a flame in Hades' glass jar. She'd been expecting the worst.
"I started dreaming after that. It was nice,” she paused, her cheeks going slightly pink before she continued. “As a demigod, I’m used to bad dreams, but all of those dreams were nice. And now I’m awake, and I’m not in any pain so… I guess I am okay. It doesn’t erase everything bad that’s happened to us over the last few weeks, but now everything just feels a bit more manageable.”
Luz couldn’t help but smile. She was so worried that Amity was going to have changed after what happened in the mountain, but now taking a good look at her Luz knew she was telling the truth. She looked younger now than Luz had ever seen her. Refreshed in a way that Amity never really had shown before. It was such a relief.
Amity reached over and tapped the back of Luz’s hand with her finger. “What about you? You didn’t look too good before we went through the portal. Are you okay?”
“Ah, well,” Luz shrugged. The slash was healed over nicely now, and knowing that Amity had literally died didn’t make it seem like any comparison. “It was just a cut.”
“Just a cut,” Amity echoed. “Only you would get sliced with a sword and call it a cut.”
“You literally fell off a mountain!” Luz protested, and Amity laughed.
“Okay, fair enough. But at least when we were down in the Underworld I was dead. You had to do all that alive. That’s not a small thing, Luz.”
Luz shrugged again and opened her mouth, more than happy to never concede about who had it worst when Amity’s fingers wrapped around her hand and squeezed, effectively stopping whatever she was going to say next.
“I’m being serious,” she said, her mouth twisting into a soft smile. “The way you took on Belos down there? I’m honestly kind of amazed at how fearless you are.”
Luz’s own cheeks started to heat up and she laughed. “Yeah right, are you going soft on me Blight?”
Amity giggled again, her eyes not leaving Luz’s. “In your dreams.”
There was another short silence where Luz’s heart was beating wildly in her chest. She wasn’t sure who leaned in first, but then their lips connected and Amity’s hands rested around the back of her neck, and for the first time since Luz left for their quest, she felt this overwhelming pressure in her chest and the content feeling of finally being home.
And it was pretty much the best demigod kiss of all time.

The Wasted Potential of Piper McLean’s Backstory
I think it’s safe to say that Piper’s backstory was easily the weakest, most boring, and worst-written one of all the characters in Heroes of Olympus, but it didn’t have to be. Riordan wasted a lot of potential for her backstory that could’ve added much more to her character just for ‘My dad doesn’t pay attention to me!!11!!!11!’ and then showing multiple flashbacks of Piper and Tristan spending quality father-daughter time alone together and completely invalidating all of Piper’s annoying complaining. Not only that, but Piper’s backstory is just a boring copy of Rachel’s.
So, this is what Riordan did with Piper’s backstory:
1. ‘Neglectful’ dad. Piper spends 50% of The Lost Hero complaining about how little time her dad spends with her (and 49% thinking about Jason) instead of focusing on actually helping him. And while neglectful parenting can be very dangerous to a child’s happiness and social skills, Piper clearly wasn’t neglected or ‘ignored’. How do I know? Well for one, there are multiple flashbacks in The Mark of Athena of Piper and her dad hanging out- surfing, researching Greek mythology stories, watching Tristan’s movies and laughing over them, Tristan telling Piper Cherokee stories, etc.- and two, Piper isn’t unhappy nor unsocial and doesn’t show any symptoms of child neglect besides being clingy and possessive (but remember that the McLeans weren’t always rich, and were actually quite poor before, so Piper didn’t learn that behavior from her father). Besides, for someone who is claimed to be ‘smarter than all her other siblings’, Piper clearly doesn’t know that it’s her father’s agent that controls his schedule, not Tristan.
2. Rich and pretty= bad. In a lot of different circumstances, being rich and pretty has its cons, but Piper’s complaints about it are completely offbeat. Why? Cause we don’t know why she’s complaining about it. She complains about being rich, but why? She complains about being ‘too pretty’ (as if that’s something people legitimately complain about), but why? There’s no backstory or reasoning given to this. If there was, Piper’s constant complaining might have been valid, but Riordan just threw it into her story to give the readers a reason to take pity on and feel sympathy for her, and because he didn’t give Piper an actual reason for her complaining, it made it unbearable. If he had written it in smaller doses (much smaller) and wrote it realistically, it could’ve been really awesome. Because if you’re going to complain about something, make sure you’re complaining for a reason. Why does Piper hate being rich? Why does Piper hate having a bunch of awesome things most people would kill for? Why does Piper hate being attractive? And how Riordan tried to validate her complaining with ‘She wants to be normal’- NO ONE WANTS TO BE NORMAL. What teenager wouldn’t want a private airplane and giant mansion after living in a shitty wood house most of their life? Cause yes, Riordan, write your character complaining about her private chef making her a gold-wrapped sandwich while most of the other characters were worrying about where their next meal was going to come from and have her complain about having things while most people didn’t have 5% of what she had. That’ll totally make her a likable character. There’s a difference between being modest and being ungrateful.
3. Bullies. Being bullied sucks, and Piper has every right to complain about it. But...she didn’t. She didn’t complain at all. She didn’t even care about it. So she’s perfectly fine with being bullied and pushed around for her ethnicity, but her dad working a little overtime is the end of the world? How??? Besides that, Riordan didn’t write in bullies to shine a light on racism towards First Nations people, but for one reason only- to degrade femininity. Piper is described as a ‘tomboy’ (even though she doesn’t actually dress tomboyish, but that’s for another mini-rant) and the only bullies towards her we have been introduced to are girly-girls- Isabel and her group of friends who wore ‘matching pink tops and enough makeup for a Halloween party’, Drew Tanaka, Khione, etc. That’s not progressive, it’s sexist. ‘Femininity’ and ‘weakness’ are not synonymous, and nor are ‘masculinity’ and ‘strength’. Also, how did Isabel and her friends not know who Piper’s dad was? I’m pretty sure Tristan didn’t hide her from the entire world (though that would’ve been a way cooler backstory).
4. Stealing. Anyone else out there who also knows that Piper isn’t actually a rebellious trouble-maker? Cause she isn’t. She got kicked out of four schools for being accused of stealing, but she never actually canonically broke any rules. As for the stealing part of her backstory, it was really, really lame. It was just a bad, invalid excuse to make Piper look like the badass and cool trouble-maker when in reality, all she did was politely ask for things. Not exactly ‘badass and rebellious’, and it was completely unnecessary. Piper wanted attention from her dad, but she got it multiple times and could’ve gotten it in many other different ways that didn’t enforce the racist ‘kleptomaniac First Nation’ stereotype.
And this is what he should’ve done with her backstory:
1. Rich and pretty= distrust. Piper was reluctant to tell Annabeth about her famous father in The Lost Hero, but for the wrong reason. She didn’t want Annabeth to know about her movie-star dad because she didn’t want the ‘attention’, but she should’ve not wanted Annabeth to know out of distrust. And by ‘distrust’, I mean ‘not knowing if they want to know you for you or for your money’. This is a common con for rich and famous people, and they often turn paranoid and distrusting because they can never be certain if someone wants to be their friend because they think that they’re a cool person or if they want to be their friend because they’re rich and famous. That would’ve been a perfect reason for Piper to be reluctant to make new friends (especially after announcing to her whole cabin that her father was Tristan McLean), but she didn’t care. She even said that she ‘hated using the famous dad card’ but never showed signs of being dubious of new people who knew who she was. As for being pretty, a lot of attractive people are also distrustful because they never know if someone wants to date them for their personality or for their looks (and in Jason’s case, it was definitely the latter. No one wants to kiss someone a few minutes after knowing them and never actually talking to them one-on-one and it be anything but sexual attraction). Piper should’ve been very reluctant to get into a relationship (especially after Jason embarrassed and sexualized her in front of the entire camp calling her a ‘knock-out’) and it would’ve added a valid reason for her to complain about her looks. Cause again- why does she hate being attractive? Cause she’s tired of being stereotyped? No, cause she stereotypes other people. Cause she doesn’t want to be attractive? No, cause she never said anything about that. There was no reason for it, so it was a huge waste of many chapters and made for a horrible character arc.
2. Alone in a big house. Piper complained about her dad being ‘too busy’ despite him being a very loving, caring, and inclusive father, but why didn’t she even mention the other part of it- being alone? Sure she had personal chefs, assistants, etc. with her, but no one related to her and no one who wasn’t being paid to be around her. Being alone sucks, but being alone in a giant house with a bunch of games and other stuff you’d love to share with another person but can’t? Damn. Speaking of which, what about Piper’s past schools? Five schools and no confirmed friends? It’s not like Piper has a hard time making friends since she was able to become friends with Leo (and only after being at the Wilderness School for a few months versus full school years at the others). Riordan could’ve written a very interesting backstory that didn’t have to relate to monsters (like Leo’s) but focused on the wrong parts.
3. Impossible (and toxic) beauty standards and pressure. While being unattractive (or thinking you’re unattractive, cause you’re not ugly, you’re just not your type) sucks, being attractive (and extremely attractive) has multiple cons. Not only is there- racism in the beauty industry, society’s toxic and even deadly standards of beauty, not being open to relationships out of fear of only being liked for your looks, fear of not being taken seriously and being stereotyped, being cat-called and even the fear of rape, being compared to others, etc., but there’s the constant pressure (especially from family members, friends, and peers) of showing off your looks even if you don’t want to or are not comfortable doing so. I have an ‘hour-glass’ shaped body, and at first I loved my body and was very confident about it, but after the constant urging from my family members to wear tight (almost revealing) clothes to show off my body starting at only twelve years old despite me not being comfortable wearing those types of clothes, I hated my body and wore exclusively baggy and layered clothes for nearly 3+ years. This would’ve been perfect for Piper’s backstory, especially since her mother literally sexualized her by putting her in an ‘embarrassingly low v-neck dress’ in front of tons of campers. She wore basic, simple clothes, but she only wore them to avoid being labelled a ‘girly-girl’. It’s not even canon if she actually likes those clothes or are actually comfortable wearing them or not, she only wore them to avoid being something else she didn’t like. It could’ve led to an awesome character arc- going from insecure about your looks because people keep pressuring you into showing them off to only wearing and doing what you like. Piper tried to hide her looks, but for what reason? To avoid being stereotyped as ‘girly’? Yes, Piper, because girly-girls are the only type of girls that are pretty. Obviously.
4. Charity. Rachel rocked this one. If Piper wanted to be kind and modest, why didn’t she give any of the things she had to people who actually needed it? Instead of moping about how rich you are, give the things you don’t want to those who need it. It’s a lot more effective and moral than spending all your days complaining and sulking, and it’s much more likely to gain readers’ favor than constant whining.
5. Stereotypes. Riordan tried so hard to avoid the ‘snobby rich girl’ stereotype, but in my opinion- he should’ve utilized it. Piper went from ‘I don’t care about what I have’...to the exact same thing. She didn’t grow at all regarding her fortune and riches. Even in The Trials of Apollo, she lost everything and didn’t even care. Who wouldn’t care if they lost everything they had? Piper could’ve been grateful that she still had her dad and humanity while still being upset she lost everything. Back on topic- Piper could’ve gone from spoiled, obnoxious, and money-obsessed to ‘It doesn’t matter what I have or what I am but who I am’. She should’ve started off as the basic, stereotypical rich girl- a greedy, selfish, idealistic, spoiled, rude, dramatic, and overly ambitious primadonna diva who tried to buy her happiness and relationships but realized she couldn’t fill the hole in her heart with money and lipstick. Or how about the reckless homewrecker who broke hearts just for fun before realizing she actually wanted a real relationship, so started letting people in? Riordan avoiding the rich girl stereotype to make Piper more likable is what helped make her dislikable, because it ruined the chances of a good character arc. Besides, while not showing it on the surface, Riordan did actually sink into the rich girl stereotype by making Piper a selfish, ungrateful, and attention-seeking whiny brat, but she never grew from that or even realized she was doing it.
6. Looks don’t matter. The fandom thinks that Piper is the one who stands for ‘looks don’t matter/it’s what’s on the inside that matters’, but she’s the opposite. She: -dismissed Percy and stereotyped him based off how he looked -hated her entire cabin and mother just because they were girly -hated and stereotyped Drew just cause she was wearing jewelry and makeup -constantly fussed over her looks and looked at herself more times in one chapter than all the other characters did combined -commented on Jason’s appearance multiple times, etc. So no, she isn’t the one who stands for that. The character who doesn’t think about their appearance at all is the one who stands for that, not the character who thinks about their looks 24/7. She should’ve been the character to stand for that, cause who better than the daughter of beauty and a famous, attractive movie-star? She should’ve been the one to scream to the mortal world that ‘Hey, I’m attractive but I’m not my attractiveness’.
7. Racism. If Riordan wanted to expand on Piper’s character, why not write about the number one thing she should’ve been struggling with before being introduced to the mythological world- racism? She’s Cherokee, and there are multiple things against First Nations people nowadays like horrible living in reservations, living in the land she knows was stolen from her people and watching her father pay taxes to the very people who stole it, etc. Bullies suck, but bullies are common. The struggles of First Nations people is not, and it should’ve been added to Piper’s backstory not only to make her more realistic and better-written, but to shine a light on the racism and oppression against First Nation tribes.
8. Monster attacks. So Piper is the daughter of a rich and famous movie star, most likely used multiple different pieces of technology, was out in the open only a few hours away from Camp Jupiter, and was out in the mortal world her whole life, but didn’t experience any monster attacks whatsoever, even at fifteen years old? That’s extremely unrealistic and dumb. Monster attacks should’ve been used to make her backstory more interesting and realistic.
9. ADHD and dyslexia. Was I the only one bothered that Piper didn’t show any signs of ADHD or dyslexia? Every demigod has them and Frank is the only one confirmed not to, but Piper had no trouble focusing, staying still, reading, concentrating, forgetfulness, short attention spans, etc. She was even able to read the directory at Medea’s Department Store, the writing on the wall at the Cyclops-infiltrated warehouse, Greek stories with her dad, etc. In canon, she doesn’t even have ADHD or dyslexia, but showing her struggling with it (especially as the daughter of a famous movie star who’s pressured into being perfect and poised at all times) would’ve added so much to her backstory and character.
10. Abandonment issues. So Piper’s mother literally leaves her before she was even born...and she didn’t care? It’s understandable that she would accept her mother’s choice after finding out that her mother was a goddess who couldn’t stay with her, but what about before? She didn’t even comment on it. She showed signs of abandonment issues (insecurity over her relationships, the inability to trust her partner’s intentions, constant jealousy, difficulty with feeling actual intimacy, possessive and controlling behavior, clinginess, constant need for attention, etc.) but they were never expanded on or even called out. She was portrayed as the perfect one without any faults or need for help cause she was (in Riordan’s eyes) supposed to be the ‘strong one’ who didn’t need others to help or save her, but that just led to a dull character and flat arc.
11. Standards of perfection. Piper is the daughter of a rich and famous movie star, is extremely attractive, etc., so writing her backstory as being constantly pressured, raised, and even demanded into always being poised, presentable, and perfect her whole life would’ve been way better than whatever the hell Riordan was doing. Piper should’ve rebelled against society, not her dad who didn’t even do anything wrong. Basically- What Piper did: My dad wants to bring me to a nice salon cause he loves and cares about me? NO! I’m going to cut my own hair even though cutting your hair in First Nations culture is literally taboo without even bothering to tell my dad that I don’t want to get a haircut to see if he’ll agree! What Piper should’ve done: Society wants me to always be perfect and presentable? NO! I’ll show them that I’ll be whatever I want to be without their input!
12. Rich and famous ≠ a perfect life. People are often mistaken that rich and famous people have the best, perfect life, but they don’t. With society’s impossible standards, controversy in the fame department, tons of hate for a bunch of different reasons, and more, Piper could’ve been the one to show that more money doesn’t equal more happiness, cause who in the world would constantly want flashing cameras in their faces, the inability to go out without being followed and/or harassed, fake friends, constant judging, the inability to have any privacy or being able to do anything normal people can, etc.?
So, yeah. Piper’s backstory was just a steaming-hot mess, a pile of wasted potential, and flat-out bad writing. Riordan could’ve written an awesome character with a great character development, but it was trashed only because he couldn’t focus on the right aspects of her backstory.

when hades!reader dates percy jackson
relationship headcanons are actually pretty fun to write so expect more of these soon. i might do like some brother-sister kinda ones from pjo (like siblings in a cabin, for ex) but ofc can’t wait to tackle the nico-will dynamic <3
Percy was too scared to admit he liked you so he instead was extremely overprotective.
One time, at a party a Dionysus camper threw, an Aphrodite guy was getting touchy-feely with you.
Percy splashed the guy’s beer in his face using his powers, angering him, but he only winked at you and walked away.
Eventually you caught on that he liked you and kissed him by the Canoe Lake.
Initially you tried to keep your relationship a secret.
There was always sexual tension during Capture the Flag.
It was even worse at the nightly campfires, where you stole lustful looks from each other.
You snuck into his cabin most nights as you couldn’t do it with Nico around.
That’s when you found out he was a big cuddler. All night he would warm you up, as children of Hades are unnaturally cold. And because he likes smelling your hair.
Nico was the first to know. He told you that he was dating Will and you would have felt guilty if you didn’t tell him about Percy, so you did it right after. You made disgusted looks at each other jokingly—but not before Percy bust into the room with chocolate-covered strawberries. He always seemed to be in the right places at the wrong time.
Despite being popular on campus for your powers and ethereal looks, you never had many friends. People were intimidated by your dad being the god of death.
Until Percy introduced you to those from the Prophecy of Seven and you all became really close.
He made it seriously obvious that you were dating, even though the whole point of keeping it a secret was to protect it from them.
Whenever Leo tried to flirt with you, Percy held Riptide in the pen form against his back and glared.
When Jason stared at your bikini bod at the beach, Percy sent a wave of water over him before he could finish stuttering.
When girls flirted with Percy—which was and is all the time, especially the mortal ones—you kissed his cheek in front of them and got the message across that he was yours.
“I’m the disciple of death, so,” usually did the trick.
Percy got sick of keeping the secret. He didn’t want guys flirting with you anymore.
So, at your birthday party, he pulled you onto him in the Canoe Lake and kissed you passionately. Everyone stopped swimming to cheer you on.
An Apollo kid took a picture of the moment. It turned out like one of those aesthetic Pinterest couple photos with the sun setting in the background and the silhouette of your chests against each other.
Percy often asks you to replicate the silhouette in the picture as a shadow on the wall.
From that moment on, PDA became a big thing between you two.
Everyone knows you’re dating and if they’re new, they learn quickly.
You’re like the mother and father of Camp Half-Blood.
The first time you told Percy you loved him, he hugged you tightly and pulled you into his chest to stop you from seeing him so happy.
“I love you too,” he’d said quietly. “More than anything—everything.”
After a few moments of you being buried in his chest, he kissed your forehead, and then all over your face, and repeatedly said, “I love you,” until you laughed.
Nobody makes you happy the way he does.
“I’ve never seen you smile so much,” Leo said one time, not really joking.
“That’s because I’ve never been so happy.”
Nico threw a pillow at you. “Out.”
Your dates are at the beach, where Percy steals kisses from you in the water and you laugh at how dorky he is explaining the anatomy of a hippocampus.
You’re accustomed to riding dolphins, watching the sun set and swimming with sharks.
“Aren’t you scared?”
“Of what?”
“Of the sharks biting you or killing you. Girls are always scared of that.”
“I’m not scared of death, Jackson.”
You and Percy binge-watch Netflix and binge-eat all the time.
You and Percy are very powerful and competitive, being children of The Big Three, resulting in long and rough fights.
There is a literal rule that you’re not allowed to be on the same team. You’re both too powerful.
Because of the paleness you inherited from your father, you blush easily. Percy thinks this is adorable.
He always talks about how beautiful you are, saying Aphrodite can’t compare. He knows that you secretly like the compliments, in spite of smacking him and calling them moronically cheesy.
He is always in awe of you when you take people down in fights.
He genuinely admires what he calls the ‘badass bitch’ vibe.
You make him blue pancakes.
It isn’t very often that you’re open with people, but you’re very open with Percy. You wouldn’t admit it to him, but you’re sure he’s the only one you could love that much.
Percy appreciates your honesty, though others might find it startling. He appreciates most your ability to conceptualise what he’s feeling when he explains something that happened to him.
For example, he told you about how much he hated Gabe Ugliano. You recognized it as abuse and Percy denied it.
“Oh, come on. He was just a mean dude. I wasn’t abused,” he had chuckled.
“He hit you, Perce. He bullied you. Just because you’re a demigod doesn’t mean you’re a strong mortal incapable of feeling pain. Your problems as a human guy matter just as much.”
“You know, you’re nicer than you think.”
“Don’t insult me again, Jackson. No matter how cute you look doing it.”
Everyone at camp is envious of your relationship.
The Aphrodite girls go insane shipping you guys.
One time, Piper had to stop the Aphrodite girls from spying on you guys through the crack of the Poseidon cabin.
They like the contrast between you two; Percy is the warm one and you’re the cold one; he’s the tan one and you’re the pale one; he’s an idiot and you’re smart.
And yet you have a balance of similarities. You’re both illegitimate children of The Big Three, powerful, good-looking, brave and would do anything for each other.
One time, a mortal tried to capture a mythical seamonster on video in the middle of a Greek ocean. In the corner of the video were you and Percy heatedly making out; he had taken you there for a date.
Your accidental sex tape became worse when Poseidon used Mist to get rid of the hippocampus in the video so no mortal would find out about it.
The video was debunked, but also broadcasted on the news where the world got to see you two making out. And no seamonster.
Whenever you and your brother Nico play with Mythomagic cards, Percy always shows up.
He says he wants to learn to play, but rubs your love life in Nico’s face simultaneously.
You’ve always thought it was because of the ‘Nico saying Percy wasn’t his type’ thing, but it’s actually because Percy wants Nico to know that he really loves you and wants his approval.
Hades only accepts your relationship because you’re happy, but that doesn’t stop him from threatening Percy’s life.
“Break her heart and you’ll have wished you became immortal, Percy Jackson. Of course that wouldn’t stop me.”
Poseidon loves you like his own daughter.
But when you talk to him, you’re pretty awkward, as he knows about the things you and Percy do in his waters.
Sally thinks you’re good for Percy because you save his ass whenever he does something stupid.
With Paul Blofis being a smart, docile guy and Percy being a rowdy goof from a different world, they didn’t get along well initially.
So you’re the middleman. You educate Paul on the world of gods and you tutor Percy so he passes Paul’s English class—his worst class due to his dyslexia.
You’re pretty much the rulers of Camp Half-Blood and the high school you both attend.
Overall, you’re both strong and powerful in your own rights, but the two of you together are these soft cuties. Your relationship is passionate on all fronts and you’re sure you won’t find a connection as strong as this one.
