Saw some ppl talking about Reverse Robins and i had thoughts

Talking abt u guys @eldritchdreamss @brucewaynehater101

Why kill Tim when you could kill baby Jason? What I want is for all of them to keep their own backstories and personalities (Developed in line with the story of course) So ofc i had to write a 1,000 word brainrot abt it.

(Also i'll only be going over the main 4 batbros for now i will add more later but these guys are the ones im most passionate about so here we go)

Damian

Let Damian come in, desperate to be of use and be worthy of his father, only for a softer, less jaded bruce (since jason hasnt died yet) to help him open up his heart and let him act as a kid. With no competition for so long, I imagine he and Bruce get along very well while he works with him. Yeah, they need to work on the no killing deal and Damian's... i guess impulse control? But i think it would be easier with very intensely focused reparenting; no distractions of other kids you know? No favoring or anything.

I see Damian growing up as a stoic, jaded adult. He's had a rough life. Maybe he sticks with the vigilante business. but I really love headcanons where he gets out of it, and focuses on something calmer, like his art. (I do appreciate and love the veterinarian Damian AUs, but im going for FULL calmness, you know? And doctor/vet work is Not calm lol)

So yeah, maybe he grows a real passion for heroism, maybe he doesn't? Maybe he goes on to be an artist and that's just what he does. Bro is ready to settle down as a scarred, veteran trophy husband and i adore him for that.

(Sorry lol i just love Damian and i love the idea of him growing out of both of his parent's legacies. Let him live his own life!!! He fights so so hard for at least 15 years. ALL 15 years of his life. He deserves to have some peace.)

Tim

Tim i think would need a much different story to join the Batfam. He still starts out as a stalker who follows batman and. . . . . . . Redimar (meaning Redemption iykyk (I just spend 17min researching names rip)) at night, takes photos, etc... Since Damian doesn't die, maybe he finds Tim? and like, tim is like 11 and Damian is 17 or 18. He's started going out as Redimar less and less, not that B really minds? In fact hes probably happy for his son so...

But then Damian finds Tim, and now he has to keep going out because he can't let this kid get himself killed like this. He would hold himself accountable since hes the only reason Tim keeps going out so much- also i imagine Tim follows Redimar more than Batman.

Cue a classic Tim Joining The Batfam plotline. They get to know each other better, get a grasp on Tim's situation, Damian finally introduces Tim to Bruce... (Probably something like Dami: "Father, this is my new brother. Timothy, say hello to Father," Tim: "Hello, Father," Dami: "Perfect." Bruce: "*falls off the batchair*)

Anyway, so, Tim ends up kinda just merging with the Waynes. They start training him, its all good and nice, and Tim makes his own little hero team unlike Damian, which is actually pretty interesting here; its Tim who made the first young hero team. Damian only ever had Jon (Superboy 1 in this!!) and he finds Young Just Us and becomes a great leader and its all fine and dandy.

Tim and Damian get along well. Damian is the sage older brother whos kinda distant, but only because he has such high emotional walls (but secretly a softy). He is very much like Bruce- nope, nevermind, hes definitely worse than Bruce in this AU, since Bruce is depicted as being much more agreeable before Jason's death, you know? So yeah, Damian is the emotionally constipated bitch in the fam and we love him for that. But hey!! Tim does manage to get through his walls! And Bruce does sometimes too!! (Tho i imagine Bruce and Damian's relationship to be very.. idk let me try to expalain. Dami: "Father." Bruce: "Son :)" Dami: "Tt." Bruce: *nods* "Hrn." Dami: "Hmph." Bruce: "Hm.") DO U PICK UP WHAT IM PUTTING DOWN--- lmfao. They hardly need words.

Tim ends up growing up very very capable. Once his parents die, he gets a little jaded, but hes still Tim. He and Damian become kind of an... ice prince duo? If you get what I mean. But Tim is the one whos actually the ice prince, Damian is secretly a HUGE softie. He is Delicate and Tim protects him lmfao.

Jason

Jason comes along like he does in canon. Has the same backstory. Tries to steal the Batmobile's wheels. Tim is sleeping over at Damian's flat for the night, so its just Bruce. They bond. Shit happens. Jason joins the fam.

I don't imagine them not getting along, but they don't immediately hit it off either. Jason is wary of all of them for a time, but he ends up warming up to Damian pretty fast after realizing what a softie he is. He pokes fun at Damian and Damian just freaking takes it lmao. Hes an adult he cannot be disturbed. Bro has seen too much and he finds Jason adorable. (Dami: "You were never this cute, Timothy." <- he is lying. Tim: *offended* "What the fu- flip!?" Jason: "Lmao Tim just say fuck." Dami: *deadpan stare* Tim: "JASON NO DONT SAY THE FUCK WORD-") ahem.

anywho and then Jason dies rip skill issue ratio.

The whole batfam is heartbroken. Genuinely shattered. Jason was a light in their lives. Not that they were WITHOUT any light, but Jason was the epitome of a sunshine child.

It's been too long since Damian has killed someone. Bro's god oodles and oodles of trauma. He can't bring himself to kill the Joker.

but Tim can.

It's a whole dramatic thing; Damian feels awful that he made his- now only- little brother kill. Bruce is hella upset but feels responsible for not seeing how badly both of his kids were handling the death of their brother. Tim goes a little off the deep end.

Things turn out.... okay. sort of. but not really. Tim changes his hero name to Red Cardinal. He feels pretty lost. Maybe he stumbles into Ra's al Ghul or smthn idk maybe smthn happens there perhaps. Maybe Damian has to put on Redimar again and rescue him? But its less of a rescue and more of a "Stop joining the dark side Tim jesus christ-" (and it does work).

They go home. Tim gets a boyfriend or two. Damian falls into his art. Bruce is throwing himself into work. They're all kind of a mess, but they keep moving.

and then

Dick

(lmao that sounded wrong)

ahem; and then the circus comes to town. The batfam- well, Tim, Damian, and Bruce- all decide to get together to do something fun. Take the opportunities given, yk? So they go to the circus together.

Wham bam rip the falling Flying Graysons.

They see Dick, breaking apart, and they know they have to do something. Bruce is the first to move. Then Tim. Damian is the last.

It's pretty quick getting Dick home, since Bruce is already a foster parent cuz of Tim yk. So Dick doesn't have to suffer in Juvie at all really. But that doesn't change the fact that he is ANGRY.

Dick is SO angry. he wants to kill the person who murdered his parents. He knows what he saw.

The fam of course do their best to investigate. Mostly Tim, who feels unworthy of being around an innocent little kid after his whole.... villain era, i suppose lol. (ofc Dick thinks Tim doesnt like him lol misunderstanding arc GO)

The whole "Dick accepts that justice is better than murder kinda maybe FOR NOW" storyline happens, and Dick becomes the conniving, bright, little Robin we all know and love. (Thinking of the Young Justice Cartoon Robin (but not the characters- just Dick's character) aaaand

Hello to all Batflash Family Fans, we have finalized our schedule for the event. We are opening up prompts soon so get your thinking hats on so that you can add your favorites to the list.

We have included a FAQ so that your general questions will be answered. If you have other questions you can contact us thru tumblr or on the Birdflash Server on discord. Hope to see everyone's great ideas soon.

FAQ's

Overview

This weekend is focusing on any pairing between a Batfam member and a Flashfam member. For the rules of this civilian members count if they're established as a main member of the family (Alfred, Linda, Joan, Iris) and any and all heroes who fall under the category of a "bat" or a "flash," this also applies to heroes like Duke and Luke, and also the Quicks on the Flash side. I'm going to veto characters like the sirens or Bernard who aren't stable reoccurring members of the family. If you're worried about your ship qualifying or not feel free to ask me, but if you think it fits the definition then write it!

Are Multiships allowed?

As Long as They: Contain multiple bats and multiple flashes (ie. Tim/Jason/Bart would be allowed) OR Contain a bat and a flash and focus on them (ie. Hal/Barry/Bruce where the fic focuses on a Bruce and Barry who are both dating Hal, or on all three of them equally. What wouldn't be allowed is a HalBarry or BruHal fic where they both mention dating Barry but Barry's not an active focus)

How Will Prompts Work?

Will be submitted via a form and voted on. There will be 3 SFW and 3 NSFW prompts for each day. Prompts must be non character specific for this event or they will be eliminated (ie you can't say " Flamebird Wally West" but you could say "Character Adopts New Identity"). Only 18+ individuals can submit 18+ prompts, or write NSFW fics.

Is there a Word Limit?

In short no. We want more fics with our favorite families, whether it’s a 100 word drabble or 100k word saga all are welcome. We also include things like new Art, and Podfics of already existing Fics that fit the idea. Just make sure you have the original authors consent or it will be removed from the collection.

Where can I post my Art?

Anywhere you normally post you art. Just make sure that you mention #Merging Families Batflash and #Merging Families 2024 in you tags so we can link you to the tumblr feed.

Okay so sometimes we get a brain wave in the last possible minute or life you know happens so what do you do when you get that half-finished work and its June 17th and its still … half finished. Silly Comic storyline arc idea ahoy:

Deathstroke’s body is beginning to give out after some many chronic pain and damage culminating from his super soldier serum, his mercenary jobs and his subsequent getting his butt kicked by many of DC’s heroes. He has one last grand scheme though to save his life; long time max scientist the Ultra Humanite develops a device that’s able to switch souls into a different body and can disguise the other soul from the likes of those who can sense souls, giving even those type the impression it’s the real person inside said body

Naturally, Slade chooses and captures Dick Grayson to do the soul switch with. Naturally, Dick (in Slade’s dying body) is able to break free and the two engage in one final clash. Dick is able to transfer his soul and memories back into his own body but then Slade’s body finally dies, leaving both Slade and Dick inside Dick’s body. The real kicker though?

Slade is essentially still the one in the driver’s seat of said body. But thanks to Dick’s soul also being there as basically a passenger, his memories are shown and merged in a manner of speaking with Slade’s. Slade in turn realizes not just his own follies and misdeeds as seen through Dick’s eyes but also Dick’s sense of Justice, family, friendship, willpower and compassion. It inspires Slade to not just change his ways but prove Dick even better. Prove himself as maybe the better hero between them now that he has a second chance of life

Thus, Slade Wilson vows on being a better Nightwing….a Superior Nightwing

ooo and what a thought! i like the battle plotline, as i think dick having autonomy issues has been a thing for awhile. @/bigskydreaming does awesome metas on that, and i get a lot of more in-depth info and thoughts based on his posts, so i don't know how to explicitly feel on another plotline of dick having his body/mind taken over, especially by someone who has dogged him for decades. granted, i would also love to see it- it has sooo much potential for some great introspection and existentialism

i love the trope of the hero winning the battle and defeating the enemy but still ultimately, no matter how hard they tried, losing the war in some way. i'd love to see dick in that kind of scenario, winning the battle for his soul but ultimately still unable to do much of anything without any of his real autonomy. if it were a solo comic and it was just dick fighting against slade without any back up (as in, no one is aware of what just happened, slade doesn't try to covertly contact any of the batfam associates, and no one thinks to check in with dick at the time and thereby notice something is off), then i think it would be a great opportunity for some great soul searching (heh) on both dick and slade's part

if slade were to follow the path of being a "Superior Nightwing" i think it would be interesting for him to struggle heavily with it since he's done things a certain way his entire career and thought quite fluidly in what he chooses to believe in the moment. whereas dick has been brought up with such strict moral values. so, if slade still has full control over dick's body but dick is still able to have thoughts and essentially also converse and argue with slade, i think there could be some great potential for a debate between the two on how to go about things. at this point, i'm assuming slade's intentions align mostly with dick's, but their way of going about it would vary extremely. this would def be a war of attrition, and once the whole conflict gets resolved (slade either dies and leaves dick's body, or slade gets a new body and dick regains full autonomy) i feel both characters would be changed drastically in how they view themselves, each other, and their own values in life

now, if this wasn't a solo run and others were involved- hooboy, would there be hell. now, i'm not saying we'd get something like under the red hood if certain writers took this kind of plot and dipped it in water acid they drink, but that is what i'm saying. involving others in this shenanigan would be crazy no matter what. bruce would be having full on lock-down mode and do whatever it takes to 1) capture this "Superior Nightwing", 2) interrogate him, 3) maybe (depends on what version of bruce we're talking about here) contact other League members for help so he can actually communicate with dick, and 4) find a way to separate the two souls- it would be either that or a life of containment since i don't think bruce could ever trust slade out in bludhaven or working as a hero, even with dick as a literal moral consciousness in his head. which. i don' think dick would appreciate at all but would also see the merit of it

this is all disregarding whatever slade is doing, which he would 100% try to escape and, as you said paladin, enact his "better" version of justice. so. like. under the red hood. lots of pish-posh and smelly characterizations all around

this is an intriguing idea though- a nice thinker, as slade is terrible lol

reasons why it's very frustrating to be someone who wants to work in a creative industry right now:

warner brothers/hbo/discovery decided to scrap the batgirl movie in post-production before anyone outside of its test audiences could actually see the film

the same company also decided to remove 36 titles from its streaming platform hbo max, several of which were hbo max originals and can no longer be viewed outside of pirating sites, which means the creators will no longer be able to get paid for their work

simon & schuster and penguin random house are in the process of merging. if the DOJ trial doesn't stop the merger, we're going down from having a big five to a big four in the publisher world, with the two of the biggest publishing houses merging.

Barnes & Noble recently decided to stop stocking new middle school books unless they know they're going to be major bestsellers, which multiple new authors didn't find out until weeks before their debuts. B&N accounts for a large chunk of publishing sales for said authors, and limiting what books are available there means debuting authors are mostly screwed unless they put together a massive marketing campaign on their own.

This is just how I would recommend watching it. Feel free to ignore this.

Start with the original pilot on YouTube.

Then watch the original season 1, also on YouTube.

Okay now, you have two options. You can start with the reanimated episodes that are the first three episodes of what Netflix labels as season 1, or you can skip to episode 4, which is where Lazy in Space starts (essentially season two). I would recommend skipping straight to ep 4. The reanimated episodes are good and add interesting information but as someone who watched Lazy in Space before it arrived on Netflix (don't judge me. this was way before we even knew Netflix was going to pick up Lazy in Space), I think it's better to experience it without the new info from 1-3 and everything else is stuff you already got from watching the pilot and original season 1 but slightly to the left because it's a little rearranged and condensed.

Now, that you have finished Lazy in Space, go back and watch ep 1-3 for the sweet animation and the new lore.

Brad: Parties in Gotham are on a different level, dude. I must have missed it on the invitation but one of the parties I went to was gas masked themed. Everyone was like super committed to the theme and kept giving me weird looks when they saw I hadn't brought one.

Dick: Was it back in January, when Scarecrow escaped?

Brad: Um, now that you mentioned it, yeah.

Jason: Then it wasn't a theme. The news read off one of Crane's gas threats. Smart that they all brought their gas masks. Dumb as shit that they still went out.

Maribat March 2021 - Half time

In my AO3 account I am also updating the 'A playboy billionaire, an ambassador and the secret love-child' title, and sometimes I add(ed) commentary why I write something the way I do.

Masterlist

From the last fifty days here is all the plus note:

First day

In Red Robin (2009-2011) comics Vicki Vale was a little bit too noisy for her own good, that's why I used her personal annoyance against Bruce Wayne in this story.

Third day

Vanessa Rios was an assistant district attorney in Gotham in the Robin (1993-2009) run. Here I am using her as the Wayne's legal team head. Tamara Fox, Lucius Fox's daughter, is friends with Tim Drake in Red Robin (2009-2011) comics and here too. Also she is an intern with the HR department who knows about the BatFam alteregos.

Fifth day

In the comics, Alfred always followed Bruce to his 'trips' (in 'Batman and Son' to London, 'Batman & Robin Annual' to an scavenger hunt, in 'Batman Inc.' to every country where they found representatives...) However because of Damian's unpredictable behaviour he stayed at the manor with the children in this story.

Sixth day

So Young Justice thing is a little complicated to me if I dare to say something about it. There was the 'Young Justice: The Secret' and its sequels. Then there were 'The New52' and 'DC Rebirth' era, plus the animation show. And they all are kind of okay..ish, furthermore I wanted to keep the principles like the main members (Tim Drake, Connor Kent, Bart Allen and Cassie Sandsmark), however I never liked their too childish behavior in some of the works (and the mixing with 'The Titans). So in this story, here, they are more adult..ish, but more relaxed and cheerful than 'The Titans' ever was (like in comics, not in the shows).

Eighth day

In the 'Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir' show they showed Lila as a manipulator without any remorse, which got me to think she has antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). I am not a doctor but I had some basic lesson in psychology, and I have a natural curiosity about things so I always research everything. With diagnosed ASPD the person has to be older then 18, however I read its symptoms can show up in childhood, and it can lead to an earlier diagnosis like 14-15 years old early.

In the case of Lila she deceives people and uses them (✓). Don't makes long term plans or thinking through about her behavior (✓), however has a set on some goal she wants to achieve (✓). She has a sense of superiority above of her classmates and adults in her environment (✓), nevertheless does't have any remorse or guilt to mistreat them (✓). Uses charisma and her fake charming persona to get something or someone (✓), however didn't value them more than tools or prizes (✓).

I didn't see any real aggressive behavior from Lila beside akumatizations (✓), but on its own I think it's enough evidence, that she has this disorder (and not the many that she claimed). In normal aggressive way Lila didn't show herself (like physical violence, loud angry outbursts, big fits in front of everyone) yet, rather she uses Akumatization to hide that kind of behavior (when Adrien tried to stand up she became willingly Chameleon, or the Heroe's Day, or Oni-Chan). So her Akumatised forms and helping to Hawkmoth are the evidences that she has aggressive behavior, however they are not the classic forms (but we also can remember the threatening in the bathroom, but I think that was more intimidation and showing her superiority then pure aggressiveness).

And I wanted that recreate and strengthen this 'fact' a little bit so it would be more obvious than in the show.

Ninth day

In the comics there are so many take on Bruce Wayne it's kind of hard to count it. We could list the Batman persona, when he kind of let his children do what they want within his no-kill-rule (like living alone at fourteen with bunch of other teenager - 'Teen Titans' or 'Young Justice' or as it looks like to go rough - Robin, Red Hood). And there is the obvious martyr-parent take, when he has to know everything about his children, but he is always silent about the important things ('Death of the family' - 'Batman and Robin: Born to kill' - 'The Hunt for Robin'). And one of my favorites the worried-tired father take, when he is kind of showing his emotions and trying to love his kids ('Super Sons' - 'Robin Rises' - 'Prelude to the Wedding: Nightwing vs. Hush' ...).

And I decided to use the last with a more active take from the first (like he lets everyone do their thing but he is monitoring them within reasons). In the comics there are many accusations about being someones father (with Julie Madison or Mariah Shelley), and here in my take he is trying to be responsible (for the sake of his children, mainly for Damian and Jason) and checks every claim out personally (so they also can do DNS test).

Tenth day

Alya Césaire is a complicated someone in the show. At first she is portrayed as a fierce helper for the protagonist, Marinette. She is stubborn and reckless, but royal to her best friends.

Then came Lila and the makers sharpened her stubborn tunnel vision. This I saw it first at the 'Lady Wifi' episode, when she clearly didn't remember about the first day, when Ladybug saved Chloé (or ignored it). After that she always fixated on 'Adrienette' (or everything else if it's interesting - Dark Cupid) when the girl, herself had other things to do (Princess Fragrance, Puppeteer 2, Reflektdoll 2, Timebreaker). So it was not that big surprise when her tunnel vision turned to Lila, and she (and everybody in her class) forgot about that they all met Jagged Stone and with his crocodile already.

Yeah, it's all true, however unlike Lila, Alya didn't show any other big social flaw. And she is 14 years old and middle child, which is kind of important in someone personality. She has to be a mature figure and a little child at the same time in her sibling's eyes. She has to compete attention in their parents eyes and be smart about it.

Moreover if we look at the Collège Françoise Dupont's students, they are all spoiled, not just Chloé or Lila or Adrien. Yes, they are not that bad like the three, but they are all sheltered to a certain degree. Their family don't have financial problems (famous chef, designers, mayor, famous bakery, curator in the most famous museum, police officer, famous pantomime, ...), plus they are all in a prestigious school where they can't meet people with everyday problems (and rich spoiled kid is not an everyday occurrence in my country). And beside some vision problems (Max, Sabrina) they are all healthy and the first time to meet a disability is when Lila arrived. So it's natural if they don't really know how to interact right with her (putting aside that whole lie thing).

And I think they, especial Alya, need first a little life experience, before they could be called responsible about their acts. And here I am trying to write it this kind of way, where they are all flawed, but they can learn from it.

Human being can be shallow and not perfect. These children only heard one perspective from Lila, and another from Marinette. In the show the makers not exactly specified about how well the classmates know Marinette and how depth Marinette and Alya friendship is, so there is already some trust issue.

Like yeah all of they are going to concerts, cinema, each others, however they didn't show so far any serious conservation between them (maybe the only exception is Adrien-Marinette combo). Until this year when Adrien and Alya got transferred in the class, the classmates don't even help Marinette with Chloé bullying. And one year friendship - how beautiful is it tho - is not that depth and stable, especially with that many secrets they have. And Lila 'charming' personality came into this still fragile relationship at the right time to prove this.

I am not saying that the makers is doing good to simplifies the relationships. Because rather they missed so many ziccers for the sake of promote new hero designs and the overwritten romantic scene, it's physical hurting me. But they are right that we are talking sheltered-traumatized-too naive kids, who sometimes had unearned magic powers (looking at Chloé, Alya, Kim).

And I didn't ever going the length of mentioning the adult characters. It's an other kind of wormhole.

Marinette was the only one who openly disobeyed Lila's wants. She stands up against her lies in the public so she is a real obstacle for Lila. While Adrien is only trying in the background without any witness (I don't say it's bad, because with some case it's better, but not here), and the boy is too valuable to Lila.

Lila already showed in the series she didn't stop with the lies and she is brave enough to ruin someone carrier with them (Marinette - 'Ladybug', Nathalie and Gorilla - 'Oni-Chan', Alya - 'Volpina'). And Adrien watched all of it in the front seat, and he kind of knows that Lila's main target here to discredit and broke Marinette/Ladybug (and Adrien, himself also, but it's his perspective and he is very sheltered and naive about it).

And this story she got another one to ruin. Bruce Wayne, himself. And as her fake charming side melts away in her anger as she is focusing more and more on her targets.

Eleventh day

Speed Force is one of the Seven Forces of the Universe. It grants the power of the speedsters. And some of them merged with it (for example Barry Allen). Speed Force has a direct connection to the time flow and with the Multiverse (or now Omniverse). The biggest event of it is the Flashpoint (2011) which started the New52 era. And Batman doesn't want to mix this kind of force with a really mysterious ancient magic.

Nightrunner's first appearance was in 2011 in Detective Comics Annual #12. Within the Batman Incorporated line Bruce recruited Bilal Asselah, French-Algerian citizen to represent Batman in Paris. Here he is a mentor/background assistant to the Team Miraculous and a representative of Batman Inc.

Fourteenth day

Wang Fu is not the most mature character in the show and I think it says it all. Being an 186 years old is the Great Guardian after he accidentally destroyed the temple, he is kind of shameful and amateur. And if we contrasted him with Batman... yeah. Batman is NOT happy and takes the control from the old master.

Fifteenth day

I know Cyborg, alias Victor Stone is currently shown as a founding member of the Justice League (since 2011), however I am prefer him more in the Titans. And it's not just because of the animation show form 2003, but also in the comics he is more himself with the first Titans then with the -all mighty- Justice League. And I also wanted him to have a little cameo in this story because in the Super Sons (2017-) he was kind of like a babysitter for the boys. And to me it's kind of funny how many times the bats short circuited him (Robin Rises, Super Sons: Parent Trap, ...).

Sixteenth day

Damian Wayne is a complicated character. For ten years he was teached to kill. He only learnt about his mother at eight. He only learnt about his father at ten. Thalia used him for anything from power play to plotting someone death. Bruce loves him, but he is so moronic about his own emotions it's kind of painful to read sometimes. And there is the thing where Damian is never enough, his mother cloned him (Heretic), his father has other wards (mainly Red Robin). Dick Grayson went incognito spying when the boy had finally a healthier relationship (Grayson: The Superspy). His best friend, Jon Kent was suddenly older then him (2018 Superman #16). Alfred was killed in front of him (2016 Batman #77). Yeah, Damian is a jerk, but he has every right to be a jerk in my opinion. And I wanted that recreate here as Lila is a liar and threatening his 'only' position as a blood son. His only weapon to prevent it to have a fit and doing what was teached to him.

Part 2

In this au, soulmates are common knowledge, but not ordinary.

The link between the two people is literally soul sharing, which makes the couple feel, think, be like the other person at the end of the link.

There are "levels" of depth between two soulmates that get hit as the pair grows.

Not everyone has a soulmate. It is more normal not to have one than to have one.

Having a soulmate means (at least that's what the myth said) that you have been touched and blessed by the gods. A descendant of them.

Here Marinette and Damian share the same soul; just like Adrien and Jonathan.

The signs of having a soulmate or not were obvious. The first and the best known: the color of the eyes.

As Marinette and Adrien first opened their eyes at birth, their parents noticed the different colors of each eye.

Marinette's right eye was a brilliant jade while the left was a charming blueberry shade.

Adrien had the left a vivid emerald and the right a radioactive baby blue. An interesting tone, Gabriel said. Emilie responds by saying that this meant his soulmate was even more special.

As time went on, the two growing well and healthy, the characteristics of their soul mates became more evident.

At 5, Marinette was able to speak French, English, Chinese, Russian and Urdu fluently; Apart from French, Adrien spoke English and another language that no one could figure out what it was because no one knew the dialect.

Adrien showed no other characteristics about his soulmate, at least none as obvious as Marinette's.

She, despite her age, was aware of such things as hand-to-hand combat (martial arts), how to handle weapons (bow, swords). She was frankly annoyed by the action movies she watched because she said it was all wrong.

Sabine and Tom were really worried, not only for their daughter, but for her soulmate. A child of that age should not know of such things.

At the age of 7, the first "Swap" happens.

Marinette was in the classroom. The teacher had given everyone free time and she was having to deal with Chloe's nonsense; Adrien was in a photo shoot accompanied by Gabriel and Emilie.

It had been the most fascinating and frightening experience Adrien's parents and Mari's class had ever witnessed.

The changes were obvious, especially in Adrien, who had half (from root to tip) of blond hair, stained midnight black and the green of his right eye warmed to a cyan. The bubbly personality didn't change much.

Marinette's hair just changed from a bluish black to a glossy black and her left eye a glowing cyan. The shocking difference had been in behavior and posture from Persephone directly to Hades.

Chloe had fled school after that, on the excuse of being sick.

Let's go to the dynamics and explain a bit about this au.

When I had this idea, I was sleep deprived and bored. I scribbled some things on paper until I found myself thinking about our beloved soulmate cliché.

I wanted to write something with the theme, but I didn't want to write something that had already been written millions of times. I thought about the types of soul mates and how they were usually written, and that idea came to mind.

What I think now was not that original and just my subconscious merging things.

Eye color + skills + thought sharing + magic + and the Sense8 cluster concept. I put it all together and it came out.

So, this au is supposed to be something like: two bodies, one soul divided for each one.

The "Swap", for example, is not exactly a swap. It's more like (I'm going to put Jon in Adrien's body as an example) Jonathan taking the wheel and Adrien sitting in the passenger seat, enjoying the ride. Fully aware, being able to take over his body at any time if he wanted to.

You ask: “but what about ladybug? And chat noir?”

I answer: "magic."

Transformation protects their identity. Marinette's eyes turn gray (like Sabine's) and Adrien's eyes look like canon's, so neither they (nor Paris) know their secret identities. What we can't say the same about the soulmates.

Just as Damian and Jon know about Chat Noir and Ladybug, Marinette and Adrien know about Superboy and Robin. You cannot hide something from a person who lives in you and with you.

You ask: "But if they share the soul, does that means Adrien has Jonathan’s powers and Marinette died with Damian?"

I answer: "yes and no."

Adrien (untransformed) has greater stamina than a normal human, just as strength and kryptonite are bad for him, not as a Kryptonian, but still make him sick.

About Damian's death: Marinette was in a coma for two months until he was resurrected. She watched, felt and suffered his death before the pain was too much for her to endure and faint.

(What Damian learned the hard way after Aspik failed to save Ladybug against Desperada and lived in the loop for three months straight. Bruce and Alfred had to leave Damian sedated and intubated after he passed out for the sixth time.)

You ask: "What changes in their personality in this au?"

I answer: "As they are one soul, yet divided into two bodies, the personalities are balanced."

It's like the yin & yang theory of chat with ladybug. The personality of one mirrors the other.

Marinette: She can be confident, cold and downright scary if the situation calls for it.

Damian: Doesn't show much emotion around people (before the League, now Batfam), but if he's on a mission that requires him to be sunshine and rainbows... Well, Bruce is positively surprised. Damian smiled as if it was something he did every day, without pain and without killing anyone.

Jonathan: Playful, puns beyond count and impulsive. He tries not to be, but his soulmate is strong.

Adrien: With one goal in mind, he goes, no matter who is in the way. Demanding and serious, he has no time for silly nonsense. (You know what I'm talking about)

I will expand this universe further. I have some things already written and I will post soon!

I like BatmanJason and how Jay is good with people and a leader like with both the outlaws and good with difficult personalities like Artemis sometime. I haven't read many of the new comics with Jason and the kids though So I like the idea of him getting close with the Batfam and becoming something of a leader with Dick. Like a mom and dad needing to learn to talk to present a united front for the other bats and not fight over whats best for the other bats Could be shippy future Omegaverse thing

I think that Jason would be a better Batman for Gotham than Dick -cause Dick doesn’t want the cape at all. And Bruce is not as effective in that particular city as he could be. Jason was made to clean up Gotham.

Now, a Batman for leading JL? Tim. Tim, who was always more of an analyst and pure detective material, and would be good at the centre of operation managing many heroes in action. He’s a calculating little shit when he wants to be and not above manipulation for the ‘greater good’.

Jay works the best with a small, tight-knit group where everyone are more or less on the same page, he’s not good with ‘convincing’ people to do things for him that are not in their best interest - he’d be like yeah, sure, I wouldn’t do it too;] So, he’d either let them go or threaten them into helping XD

Damian is still a kid, so he’d work his way up to Batman that was, again, merging these two back into one person, but that would only happen in his thirties.

Whoever, the idea of Jason and Dick working together on the ground when Tim is managing space conflicts, like 3 tired dads with a myriad of sidekicks under their care, meeting every Saturday for a nice dinner that to discuss matters - that has an appeal:)

So since pretty much everyone agrees that Tim needs a name change, and I think most people dislike the first two RR costumes (I dislike the pretty much Robin one too, because it seems like he hasn’t accept losing Robin, when I feel a lot of his comics right after Bruce W died was about that?) which leads me to: What do you think Tim’s costume would look like if he got a good outfit, and what name?

o yeah i was not a fan of the cowl. and the n52 design is just… so busy and excessively accessorised (excessorised???) - i drew it a couple times for this project im workin on and the whole process was me squinting at reference panels and whispering softly but passionately “what the fuck” - and i agree on the rebirth RR design, it looks more derivative of dick and jasons retconned robin costumes than inspired by tims og 80s design (however. the unternet costume - its simple and appealing and clearly nightwing-inspired and i am a fan, also the giant scythe/halberd/mace thing was so ridiculous i loved it)

which is why i thank pat gleason for my life bc tims new outfit is such a good modernisation of his original robin design. so i mean to answer ur question i think tim has a p good design right now (although not for long i guess since they announced hed get a new look/codename soon) BUT if i were in charge of debuting a new design and name… hm……….

whatever his new name is, it’d preferably have something to do with wherever his personal storyline is headed, which i dont know, and for all my complaining abt how red robin is a shit name i dont actually have great alternatives lol. i did see somewhere the suggestion for the name “Cardinal” which i dont hate, so ill use that as a placeholder for now (although “Halcyon” is an interesting option)

tangentially, my personal preference for his robin graduation would be a miniseries featuring tim and damian both as robin, begrudgingly having to work together to fight some greater enemy and becoming true brothers along the way. ending with tim giving damian his blessing to be robin (a post-mantle blessing but still) with the first amicable passing on of the robin title literally ever

as for Look: his new design should a) accurately reflect his character b) mesh well with whatever tone his personal storyline is going for c) be a natural progression of gleasons newest iteration while still d) able to stand as its own iconic look

i always thought tim would do really well in a more grounded noir-style detective story, both using and especially subverting the tropes of the genre (for instance tim befriends every femme fatale and romances absolutely zero of them. theyre pals and have weekly movie nights or smthn) obvs using some of the mystery elements to springboard into classic comic wild times etc etc. theres also a great opportunity to include some more cyberpunk aesthetics to the look and feel ofthe story

i.e. tim is part of the waynetech r&d teams, working with them to develop new technologies, and proceeding to test out some of the prototypes while doing vigilante work (bc terry had to get his rocket boots from somewhere ok). gotham is still gotham, but its starting to see some of that neo-futuristic/blade runner flavour from batman beyond.

so. cyberpunk detective story starring cha boy tim drake. im not gonna draw it rn but lemme just gather some ref elements here in case i ever do

first off - motorcycle, obviously. redbird is back babey and this time its a two-wheeler. all his gear would be modded the hell out of, but the motorcycle itself would be an approximate balance of 70% ducati and 30% tron lightcycle situation. a speedy bike with ample room for the edgy overkill batfam aesthetic, with maybe a little akira in there who knows

same goes for helmet; 70/30 on this modern/cyberpunk situation. heres a quickly photoshopped “cardinal” helmet lol

although theres totally room for some daft-punk leds in there. serving as a heads up display AND a fun neon aesthetic. I really want to play into that John Wick neo-noir situation.

besides that… ive got a preference for street style over the superhero spandex, so… detective jacket. every detective has a good jacket. norm breyfogle made a comment on his early tim robin designs that itd be pretty either/or on jacket vs cape, merging the two looked a little silly. for robin they probably decided on cape to keep things classic, but for cardinal i can do what i want

and i want to bring back some of this popped collar.

which i basically did for that other tim design i drew, which i still like, so this one would probably be at least a lil borrowed from that.

admittedly… i do also like the concept of wings introduced in tims n52 design, i just think they couldve been hidden/incorporated better

greig rapson had a sweet robin design that had a sort of flight-suit (which dove into the actual mechanics??? i love) and since id want to dive into tim testing out waynetech prototypes, its a pretty good natural progression from him to terrys glider thing

the whole ensemble would be fairly understated however - enough to semi blend in with any crowd, hero or civilian. after all the story focus would be just as much about solving the mystery as it is punching the bad guy

the various interchangeable gadgets would be both prototypes of terrys eventual batsuit, and also all the failed prototypes that never managed to get off the ground. just to add an element of tension/plot devices wherein tims gear could break or malfunction pretty much anytime.

im fixated on this rocket boot situation though so itd be a paired down version of terrys eventual seamless/invisible design. still noticable and clunky, but working with the sleek modernish style outlined by gleason

smthn almost similar to the prowler actually from spiderverse - as in: Clearly Rocketboots, and clearly diy’d the shit out of, but still working with that Aesthetic

(most of the screencaps of prowler are dark af so im taking this from jesus alonso iglesias concept art)

im debating on the addition of more overtly birdlike/cyberpunk elements, so ill add this here cause its dope as fuck (from ahmet atil akar).

and a lot of batclan capes tend to end with that concave spiked look, which works great for bats but not really for birds. a tailcoat might emulate the bird tail, but it also might evoke Penguin a lil too much idk.

also in the interest of keeping everything within the same sort of design language, i would Love to see some new villains emulating deconstructionist/architectural kawakubo fashion:

so uhhh yeah. budding cyberpunk detective story with a little noir and a little technological advancement progressing in fits and starts. taking from the gleason foundation with heavy black featuring brighter coloured accents and modern sleekness, made a little dorky via prototype technology, with some extra neon blade runner shit thrown in there.

depending on how much i love or hate the new codename/design reveal i might draw this via inspired motivation or spiteful motivation lol

Hogwarts!Jason & Dick having to find out info on the suspect and Dick being “We have to use magic and paper trails.” Jason is “We can use surveillance videos, track his phone, track credit card, etc., and compare suspects with times and dates.” Dick being introduced to the Internet. Wizard!BatFam being introduced to the Internet. To video games. To washing machines. To dryers. To dishwashers. Handheld cells with internet and apps. Just imagine.

Bruce finds it absolutely infuriating that the muggle technology keeps moving so fast that he can’t catch up properly and that some of the inventions are sure interesting, but not as versatile as magic can be. Jason is like, are you kidding, this little machine can connect me with the whole world!

“Can it teleport you there, to?”

“No, but it allows me to talk to people without having to find a goddamn chimney every time!”

Which, point, is a convenient feature. Tim is all about muggle technology and trying to merge it with magic - with mixed results. He’s firmly believing that co-operation is the way forward... except it’s only the way forward for the Wizarding community, because he’s not about to tech muggle magic, god no, imagine the chaos:O Jason agrees, but still calls out hypocrisy, because being a muggle made him cynical and bitter;]

Dick is not very trusting of the muggle stuff and tries to elbow how way into leading the investigation, but Jason isn’t giving a quarter. “You know I throw up after teleportation, we’re taking the subway!” and “Microwave cooks it in under a minute, put the want down!” and so on, and Dick keeps forgetting that magic makes Jason feel ill, it’s all so instinctive for him, but he appreciates that seeing someone use magic is, well, a painful thing for Jay - he wasn’t born a squib, he had magic... and it was torn from him in such a terrible way and Dick knows that Jason never recovered from that trauma, and understands the hot envy his brother has to feel towards them, he understands the resentment, because he’d feel the same if it was him - he would probably break down.

That Jay managed to build himself a life out of these ashes, to get where he is now, adjusted and doing good in the world so strange and different to what he knew, is astonishing and Dick is amazed by it. He is so proud of his little wing, so proudTT
