most days I feel like most of what I do in terms of trying to accommodate other disabled people is just. the bare minimum. even though I know that I do stuff that other people don’t, it doesn’t feel like I’m putting in any particular effort beyond just... basic decency and compassion. it feels like the people who don’t are failing to perform basic decency and compassion, y’know?

and most of the time the responses I get feel in line with that. just other people recognising basic decency when performed. a nod, a “thank you”, where appropriate, mostly just unacknowledged because it’s not something that needs acknowledged. it’s the same kind of response I tend to give

but sometimes I get a response that’s just heartbreaking and that always pushes me to keep paying attention and keep trying to do more because if so many other people are going to fail at basic kindness then somebody’s got to pick up the slack and if I don’t, who will?

#this is mostly a vent post but you can reblog if you want #if I get bothered by reblogs I now have the option to Simply Turn Them Off #this post was prompted by the fact that a couple of weeks ago #I asked one of my volunteer teammates what his preference was for when I did the written version of the interview we're going to do together #would he prefer I transcribe his speech exactly as he said it with his stammer included #or would he prefer I write it as the questions are written in our notes?#and he gave me the WIDEST eyed look and went ''you can DO that?''#before saying he ABSOLUTELY wants it written exactly as he says it on the day ''if that's okay''#and I just. that should NOT have been the response. that should NOT be such a surprise to him #writing a transcript of his speech exactly as he said it should be the STANDARD EXPECTATION #I knew it wasn't that's why I ASKED but it should not have been such a shock to BE asked #and I think about when I was in college and got accomodation for my auditory processing issues for the first time #and the way I felt when I realised that this was me FINALLY for the FIRST TIME on even footing #and just. the way that that felt.#and I'm not saying that every single form of accomodation is simple or basic or easy #some is difficult and requires significant effort and not everyone is in a position to do it #but being patient and respectful and /ASKING PEOPLE/ THEIR NEEDS AND PREFERENCES #should not be something that so often seems to be a rare treat for the recipient #an untrained twenty-three year old should not be a more conscientous guide for a blind teenager than her professional school aide yknow?#hhhhhhhhh it's two am and I'm having Feelings

Okay it's 4am so this is gonna be kinda sappy or whatever but So Much of what I read involves romance (and I read,,, So Much in general) that I've kinda become desensitized? to it? or something? Idk I've gotten really used to it and I can appreciate it in writing from like a narrative standpoint or whatever, but then occasionally I'll come across a story about an aromantic/aroace character and I just have one of those "oh" moments, y'know? where I'm reminded that I can be happy too. I could have the kind of meaningful relationships these characters have and I don't have to force myself into a romantic relationship to have that. Like, that's genuinely an option and it's so good. Cuz, like, I knew that, but until you see an example of it and you can kindof picture yourself like that more clearly you don't really know it.

#In fiction in particular the character being aromantic really drives home the point of having really strong and close friendships (separate #from queerplatonic relationships) cuz like you *know* that its distinctly platonic. They're aromantic so there's a guarantee that it's not #being written that way to lead into romance or have romantic undertones that just aren't explicitly stated or expanded on. Which is very #good and comfortable for me. There's also just the whole 'this character is Like Me' thing which is nice.#ghostprince posts #idk I was doing art earlier involving the aroace flag and thinking about moving up my next doctor's appointment to talk about top surgery #and just generally being kinda introspective. And now it's 4am and I'm reading a fanfic about an aromantic character and his friends during #valentines day and how they're showing affection all-the-same with no expectations or strings attached #and like 'oooo cringe fanfiction' or whatever but something I've been tryna work on is acknowledging that my interests are genuine and #aren't something I need to be embarrassed about and I should allow myself to be expressive about what brings me joy or something.#Mostly this involves explaining Minecraft mechanics and the OBS Studio settings menu to my dad. But it's progress. I dont think I can go #about it in the same way as my brother but I'd like to start working towards being a more genuine and happy person if I can? I've still got #all of ths mental illness and physical ailments and everything so my efforts may not work out if I can even work up the energy to try #but I'm atleast starting to *want* to try being me and being happy for once. Hello everyone.

I'm finally writing out a new pinned post, I feel like it's at least somewhat time. I haven't and probably won't ever move on but I've gotten a lot more interaction lately and myself have interacted a lot more so I think this is both needed and good to have.

Anyways,

I'm Anna! I'm pretty Butch (look pretty masc but I don't really identify as that), 28 (birthday is August 24th) and I'm primarily a shiny transfem (aka a dom/top and yes I stole this) who also just really likes helping people and tries their hardest to be nice. The word "fanon" doesn't mean a lot to me. Fandoms are big and diverse. No one has the full picture.

But YOU are the exception. You seam to know every aspect of the MLB fandom. Or at least most of it.

So when you reblog a post about disliking a fanon Verizon of a character I noticed.

Do you want to elaborate on that?

Honestly I was mostly thinking about Chloe Bourgeois. I was gonna elaborate in the tags, but well... honestly, even in this case, it's not really the fanon version of CHLOE that's the problem. Which is why I didn't elaborate on it at the time, because it didn't totally fit.

Thing is, I do like Chloe, and I especially like versions of Chloe that follow off of the earlier seasons of ML, when it looked like there was going to be more to her, when there are hints of her having these insecurities because of her awful parents and just wanting to be recognized. With her being a mean bully, but beneath all of that being deeply hurt and trying to fill in the holes left behind by her parents' neglect or disdain. With her desperately trying to earn Ladybug's approval, approval that she couldn't get from her own mother. With her not thinking much of most other people, but going far to help the few people she cares about. So stories where she's still recognizably herself and still can function as a classic mean girl bully if the story calls for it, but with more to her, where she's treated as a person beneath it all still.

I'm not so fond of stories just giving her a straight-up personality replacement, where she's Chloe in-name-only, and she turns into a nice person off-screen with little explanation. I don't hate it, but it also doesn't feel like Chloe, and takes away what could be a really interesting character development arc. It's okay, but not my jam.

The stories I hate are the ones that do either of these types of things (especially the second one where she just gets a straight-up personality replacement) and then the other, canonically nicer kids are made worse, with Chloe and Alya basically swapping personalities. Everyone knows how much I hate Alya, Adrien, and the rest of the class being bashed, and Chloe and Alya having swapped roles just showcases the intense double standards of the writer, and is incredibly frustrating for me since it makes me leery of Good!Chloe and makes me want to vent about people making Chloe into a nicer person when that's not actually my central problem with the trope. So I have to try and take great pains to convey that I like Chloe being good, but doing it at other characters' expense, especially with how Alya in particular ends up getting targeted in these cases, is not cool.

I still remember when I briefly filtered out "Chloe Bourgeois Redemption" on AO3 because of a fic that started demonizing Alya out of nowhere by making her be mean to Chloe, and that was the only tag the fic had at the time that was even remotely associated with salt. I took out that filter soon afterwards because I do really like fics that redeem her, but dammit, BECAUSE of how those good and redeemed versions of Chloe are used, I'm often leery when I see her treated too positively and it sucks to have that knee-jerk reaction.

I haven't talked about this in a while, but why not make one more post about my sexuality, for good measure? It's something I vented a lot about a long time ago, partially because I didn't want to discuss it with my dad or therapist. I probably should have told them, but it's too late now. I don't want to turn this post into a vent about the two secrets I've kept from my dad, but maybe I'll reblog that post again later. Sigh...

Anyways, I kept trying to figure out my sexuality because it really confused me, and I wanted answers for my own personal satisfaction. In doing that, I realized I'm aegosexual. I don't want sex and I've never even really thought about wanting sex with others before. I do however masturbate quite a bit. I seem to masturbate multiple times a week, so I don't know if I'm hypersexual too or if this is normal or what. But at the very least, I'm like 99% sure I'm aegosexual.

On a slightly less embarrassing note, I've figured out I'm probably Quoiromantic. I'm 19 now, and I've never understood romance. I know it's love, but what makes it different from platonic love? You can love a friend or a family member just as much as someone you're romantically involved with, so it all baffles me. And that's why I think I'm Quoiromantic. I simply don't understand the difference between Platonic and Romantic attraction in any major way.
