Steve Rogers Trauma: A TED TALK

Why is it that any kind of commentary/analysis on Steve Roger's trauma has to be met with comparisons to Bucky or Tony's trauma? Or most of the fanfics I read completely gloss over Steve's trauma?

Some of y'all legit do not care or are blind to Steve Roger's trauma throughout the Captain America & Avengers films and it shows. And this isn't hate to any fanfic writers but rather an observation of most stucky and stony fanfics which seem to minimize Steve's character & trauma in favour of highlighting their fave's. And of course it's fine that people want to write about Bucky or Tony or even Nat's trauma, but MOST TIMES* I've read these fics and they all have an intentional disregard for Steve's traumas.

And this speaks to the wider discourse around Tony, Bucky & Steve- the three characters most written about in mcu fanfics.

Because why is it that anytime I bring up Steve's PTSD or his illnesses or the hell he would've gone through pre-serum, people always HAVE to add in their 2cents about, "well yeah & Bucky went through worse." Like.???? No, I'm not talking about him.

I absolutely love Bucky and he's one of my favourite characters in both the comics and the MCU but, respectfully, this ain't about him.

I'm talking about Steve and his life. The crap he would've had to deal with both in public and at home. Especially the horrors both he and Sarah would've gone through because of Joseph Rogers who was a terrible person and an alcoholic who beat up on his wife and sickly kid.

And even post-serum when he's completely healthy and living in the future now, I'm still seeing popular narratives about "Yeah he's alive now & hasn't gone through half of what Bucky's endured over the past 70yrs." OR "He's had it easy compared to Bucky who was being tortured by HYDRA."

Um, no one's saying Bucky's treatment under HYDRA was a good thing??? But we're talking about Steve here, not Bucky?

And how he was literally frozen in a state of purgatory & how traumatic it would feel to be ripped out of it and then basically thrown to the new world on your ass without any kind of therapy or help. Most people make it seem like Steve was in a Sleeping Beauty kind of sleep and then woke up completely fine. And I will admit the MCU has been the main culprit of that narrative because they deleted so many scenes that humanized Steve Rogers, that now the gen pop thinks:

he's perfectly fine

has zero trauma

should complain about nothing

hasn't had it hard like Bucky or Tony

is a lesser hero because of all of the above

I recently had a convo with a friend & we were talking abt the scene in Avengers 1 when they were all at each other's throats. And they said that Tony was right about Steve being a laboratory experiment & everything special about him came out of a bottle. And I'm like... yeah nah, that's the lazy ass writing that Whedon perpetuated that now makes Steve one of the most misunderstood heroes & people in the MCU. Because he was special before the serum because of his consideration of others. He was special because not only did he hate bullies, but he also went out of his way to protect those that couldn't protect themselves KNOWING what that confrontation might cost him as a chronically sick person. Tony needed a whole ass arc about literally witnessing & living first hand what his weapons were doing to innocents like Yinsen & his people, to change his ways. Steve didn't have, nor did he need any of that to make him special. (AND BEFORE THE TONY STANS COME FOR ME, I LOVE TONY, HE'S LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVES IN THE MARVEL COMICS & MCU) But this hatred for Steve is ridiculous.

And once again, it's the MCUs fault because they made Tony the ultimate hero of the Avengers at the expense of Steve Rogers' character. Him being able to prove he was "worthy" all along by lifting Thor's hammer was a cheap payoff in the end, much like the entirety of Endgame was. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

There’s a few hyperfixations of mine I’m always talking about but right now there’s 3 main ones.

1. The Boys

2. Invincible

3. Peacemaker

The Boys is the main one; I loved it since it came out back in 2019. I moved on sometime after S3 ended and I found another hyperfixation but now new content is coming out with S4 so I’m back on my The Boys bullshit. I’m a Butchlander shipper, BILLY BUTCHER AND HOMELANDER CONSUME MY THOUGHTS. I AM BEYOND OBSESSED WITH THOSE TWO! I need them to kiss…. And-and more. Anthony Starr and Karl Urban are my current celebrity crushes that I’m only able to think about. If you follow me in insta it’s just been The Boys 24/7 that I’ve talked about since new content started dropping thanks to S4. HOMELANDER IS MY BABYGIRL I WILL DEFEND HIM I DON’T CARE FOR HIS CRIMES I DON’T CARE IF I’M SUPPOSE TO HATE HIM, I LOVE HIM. BILLY BUTCHER MY GOTH BOYFRIEND I WILL DIE IF YOU DIE. HE CANT DIE, HE JUST CAN’T. S4 teaser was insane, so much was going on, Black Noir is back?! And Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast! AND TEAMING UP WITH BUTCHER?! They said that trailer was just a scratch on the surface of what happens, wasn’t even a trailer just a teaser but it had so much going on WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT’T JUST A SMALL TASTE OF S4?! I’m scared but excited. I’m nervous but excited (Billy if you fucking die on me- that’s what I’m most worried about)

Invincible is my other current hyperfixation, S1 was so good and I can’t wait for S2 to continue. They should’ve dropped all the episodes at once that way I don’t have to wait but whatever. Vigilante is my little meow meow from Peacemaker. I love Adrian so much, hate that I gotta wait till like 2025-2026 for S2 possibly.

Night at The Museum came out when I was 7, I’m 24 now, I haven’t moved on. It was my first hyperfixation and ship before I even knew what that all meant. I’ve written like 30 JedTavius fics. I’m a Venom fan first and a Spider-Man hater second. I will defend Venom at all times and Eddie and him are definitely in love. When the FNAF film came out it brought me back to my FNAF phase, Foxy’s my favourite with Bonnie being second. I watched the film about 20 times. Then in November I started a personal rewatch challenge on Insta where I watched it all month long. Meaning I’ve probably watched it at least 50 times and I still haven’t gotten sick of it (also I love the Josh Hutcherson whistle meme. I don’t care how much people hate it I think it’s funny.) I’m a huge Marvel fan, I literally grew up with the comics, I’m not kidding those were read to me as my bedtime stories. My favourite characters are Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as a result I ship them. I never shipped Stucky, that never made sense to me whilst Sam and Bucky have so much chemistry. Sam Wilson is everything to me, I adore SamCap he’s MY Captain America (still love Steve though!) Roger Rabbit is my favourite fictional character of all time, my biggest comfort character. Growing up I really tried to base my personality off of him, the world might be obsessed with Jessica Rabbit but I’m obsessed with Roger. People need to draw, edit, and cosplay him as much as they do Jessica. I’ve been a huge Simpsons fan since I was like 10 and my mother dropped me off at my aunts house and she left leaving me alone with my cousin who was watching The Simpsons and it took off from there. Nelson Muntz is my funky little son and they need to make Nelisa canon. Maleficent is my favourite Disney character (actually like quite a bit of Disney, second favourite character being Donald Duck) I based a lot of my style around her, and I have a lot of Maleficent collectibles. I absolutely love the Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent films (totally ship her with Diaval).

There’s a few other things that I really, really love. I’m also a huge horror fan my favourite being Chucky/Child’s Play as well as Killer Klowns from Outer Space, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (not 3D), Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. Sanrio, Kuromi is my favourite second is Pochacco, I really love animated films and cartoons. IT, Monster High, and more. I’m also a collector of all these things.

So there you have it. Those are all my hyperfixation and fandom’s that I’m in. Right now especially those first 3 that I talked about (seriously can you tell I really like The Boys? Lol)

"Can't I just go dressed up as… Myself?"

"Steve, that's not how Halloween works," you sighed, arms folded on your chest as you sat cross-legged on the bed right by Steve's legs. He was leaning on the bed frame, one hand keeping his book open from the lower end of it, the other swirling the marker around- and he looked so cozy that you felt a bit guilty about keeping him away from the world of his book. Sighing softly, you slowly moved closer to him and got under the covers, his arm immediately finding its way around your shoulders to keep you close to his chest. "Besides, I think Maria is already going as Captain America, so…"

The grimace which took its place on his face pulled a laugh out of you, as you patted his chest reassuringly, watching him as he carefully jammed the bookmark on the page he was left at. Setting the book down on the nightstand by his side, he wrapped both of his arms around you, slightly pulling you on top of him as you braced yourself on his chest, looking down at him with a silly grin. "What are you going as?"

"Dunno," you hummed happily, reaching to press your lips against his chin when you couldn't bear the lovesick expression he kept sending your way anymore. "I'm so hopeless when it comes to actually picking something. Might as well go dressed as your shield or something."

His warm laugh was enough to bring the smile on your lips even wider. "I might actually have an idea."

You don't even know how he found an exact replica, and you're not willing to ask but the next day, a couple of hours before the party, Steve came back to your shared room in the compound with a costume. Specifically, a Star Spangled Singers costume.

"Did the USO tour in the 40's with the group," he chuckled, watching your bewildered eyes as you ran your fingers through the soft fabric of the outfit, laid out across the bed. "What do you think? Too much?"

"I am going to look awesome with Maria, you have no idea."

A playful frown formed between his brows. "Really? While the actual Captain America is-"

"We both know you're gonna go with a shirt, Steve. Let's not try to fool each other." you giggled, slowly approaching his sitting figure to wrap your arms around his neck and let him pull you into his lap. "It's so cool. God, you're so cool- can't believe I'm dating this guy."

His soft laughter was muffled when he reached in to bury his face in your hair, tugging you closer to his chest as he did so. "You're going to look beautiful in it," he hummed. "Gonna give me the best kind of nostalgia."

"I thought you hated the USO tour-"

"Shut it," he whispered, earning a quiet chuckle from you. "Everything is bearable when it's with you."

Quite literally, every single negative thought he had about the tour vanished the second you walked into the room, hand to hand with Maria Hill who was indeed dressed as Captain America, tight star spangled suit actually fitting her so well that you thought maybe, she could pass as him if she wanted to.

But boy, oh boy; Steve couldn't keep his eyes off of you. Blue sleeveless vest with a deep V cut and three pairs of stars on the collar, flowy red and white skirt short enough to show just enough of your legs, adorned with a black pantyhose. You had a blue cap placed carefully on top of your styled hair, and white gloves going up halfway through your biceps; he couldn't help the way his gaze followed you through when you approached Tony and Nick with Maria, completely ignoring the way Sam nudged his side and waved towards your direction to get your attention. "Damn, she left you for another Captain America? That's cold."

You excused yourself, squeezing Maria's hand slightly before letting go, graceful strut clicking against the marble flooring as you made your way over to the duo. "Hey Wilson, who are you supposed to be?"

Sam faked offense, one hand dramatically going up to his chest to clutch it. "Excuse me? Nat King Cole?"

"I'm supposed to guess Nat King Cole just from the.. suit?"

"Why else would I wear a suit- alright, you know what Cover Girl, I'm gonna leave you and your star-struck boyfriend alone and get as drunk as I possibly could," he declared, giving Steve -who was still watching you with a smile on his lips- a pat on the shoulder before offering you a salute and walking away, towards Rhodey.

You finally returned your attention to your boyfriend then, meeting his sparkly gaze with a big smile. "Hey Cap."

"Wow."

"I know." you giggled. "Maria and I make quite the couple." Steve didn't react much to the joke, too busy staring at your maroon lips and the way they curved upwards- feeling red, white, blue fireworks going off in his chest.

Not that he wasn't used to seeing you all dressed- you could pull literally anything off, in his eyes. From tactical outfits to the silliest pajamas known to humankind, you always looked stunning to him, filling his insides with a boyish kind of giddiness, which he hid well through the serious exterior.

You approached him a bit more then, resting a glove-clad hand on his chest before reaching up to press a kiss against his cheek, trying to break him off of the trance he seemed to be under. "Earth to Rogers?"

"You look incredible," he chuckled, mostly to himself, before getting a hold of your hand to twirl you around once. You did so, rather gracefully, the flowy skirt going up and down in the most hypnotizing way possible. "I might have to keep you away from Maria at all costs. She might just forget to remain professional as Captain America."

"She's equally as hot so it kinda goes both ways," you shrugged, earning a playful scoff from him before he held your hand again, this time bringing it up to his lips to place a soft kiss on top. "Ooh, chivalrous."

"Can we- do you want- hold on, let me just," he cleared his throat as you bit down on your lower lip, holding back a laugh. "Can I get this beautiful lady a drink?"

"Did I just get you all flustered, Rogers?" you chuckled, slowly dragging him towards the bar as he laughed along, sheepish. "Good thing you have no idea what's under this outfit."

"What? Wait, what's under the outfit?" he asked, although his hopes of getting an answer died down quickly when the two of you met Natasha, Bruce and Clint by the bar. Clint, by the other side of the bar, immediately went in for a high-five with you before pulling out the bottle of champagne Tony opened earlier on. "Why is Steve incredibly under-dressed next to such lady?"

"Heard he's not the Captain anymore." Natasha chimed in, earning a laugh from the group as you nodded.

"Oh, yeah! Much more fun, working with Captain Hill." you purred, basking in the warmth Steve's hand on your waist provided. "Wonder where she is.."

"She's busy being given a headache by Tony," Natasha replied right after Clint handed the two glasses to Steve and you, earning a timid smile from you before you took a generous sip, letting the liquid burn down all the way through your throat. "The two of you by the door might've made me question my sexuality a little bit."

"Alright, can everyone just stop trying to bed my girlfriend?"

"Bed me? Oh my God, you're actually back in the 40's," you laughed, with Steve playfully rolling his eyes and tugging you closer to his side. "Might as well ask me to dance Waltz with you to Doja Cat."

"I might, actually-" but you cut him off with a quick kiss to his lips, before slowly stepping away from him with a wink, still holding onto your glass.

"That's too bad, a Star Spangled Singer only dances with Captain America herself!"

"I'm starting to get used to this thing," Maria twirled you around again, earning a hearty laugh from you when you nodded and did the same to her.

"You look badass in it. You should take on the name, seriously."

"Only if you agree to be my sidekick. But in that outfit."

"I don't think I could fight in high heels and a skirt-"

"You don't have to," she chuckled, shaking her head. "Just give me a thumbs up when I do good and sit pretty, that'd be good."

You laughed along, pulling her to your side tiredly when the music changed again. "I actually considered coming as Captain America's shield but then Steve pulled this out, so…"

"Steve was the one pulling this out?" she asked, giggling. "He knew what he was getting himself into, then."

"Mhm. Speaking of…" you trailed off, slowly pushing yourself apart from her embrace and reaching to fix her hair before smiling again. "I should find him. I kind of deserted him for you, hotshot."

"Best choice you've ever made." she chuckled and squeezed your hand one last time. "Have fun, m'kay?"

"You too." you hummed before walking away from her happily, eyes scanning through the room as you made your way over to the bar again. A squeak left you when you felt a strong pair of arms wrap around your waist, pulling you close to his chest with a laugh. "Steve! You scared me."

"And you, miss, haven't answered my question." he spoke, right against your ear. You let out a soft chuckle at that. "What's under the outfit?"

"My endless love and adoration for a certain Steve Rogers." you replied seriously, causing him to laugh and hide his face on your neck. "For real. I got a Captain America trading card in my bra and that's like, all."

"I thought you meant something like, I don't know, a very patriotic lingerie set or…"

"Please don't bring politics into our bedroom," you chuckled, slowly turning around in his hold to wrap your arms around his neck and smile up to him. "I was messin' with you. Wanted to rile you up solely for my own amusement."

"Left your manners on the nightstand?"

"Exactly." you hummed, letting him pull you closer just to press his lips against the side of your forehead.

"Well, there's always the fourth of July for that, I hope." he shrugged, and you really wanted to just kiss him until his poor lungs went dry. "Say, what does one do with their girlfriend on a Halloween night?"

"Horror movies are on the table," you mumbled. "We'll steal beer from the kitchen- and of course, the candies Tony insisted on buying to give to trick-or-treaters as if any child ever comes around here."

"Sounds like a deal. But you'll keep the outfit on, right?"

"Only if you're gonna be the one to take it off when I'm too sleepy to do so."

You could still hear the music through the thick walls of the compound, although a lot more muffled. Your chest was against Steve's back as the two of you cuddled up on the bed, a low-budget horror movie from early 2000's on your TV while you absentmindedly played with his fingers, massaging his palm with your thumbs mostly to ignore the logical explanations he came up with for whatever demon was after the characters. "Stevie?" you looked up a bit, earning a hum from him.

"Yeah?"

You let your head fall back on his chest and closed your eyes, a smile forming on your lips. "You're my favorite Captain America, you know that, right? Even though Maria is a close second."

He laughed at that, arms wrapping around you a bit tighter before he left a kiss on your hair. "I know. And you're my favorite Star Spangled Singer."

"You'd lose your virginity to me in the 40's too?"

"Christ- who even told you about that?"

Caregiver Steve Rogers headcanons

He is So gentle with his little, an absolute sweetheart

Totally pesters the other avengers about swearing around his little (which he gets teased abt 24/7)

Likes to take his little on walks around parks and nature, says it’s good for them to get outside

Fully believes in good eating habits, always has healthy snacks on him

If he needs to leave his little with someone while doing something, it’s almost always Natasha or Bucky

Sometimes Bruce if he’s in a bind, but it’s rare

He really doesn’t like other people watching his little without him there, he’d rather take his little on the errands he’s running (aside from fighting/mission related things)

Piggy back rides are a must!! He loves to carry his little in any way but them clinging to his back is one of his favorites

He also really likes cuddling up under blankets, something warm

Bundles up his little to no extent when it gets even a little cold out, he hates it so much and worries that his little will get sick

If his little is sick, oh boy it becomes a thing for the whole tower

Everyone is waiting hand and foot on his little if they even get a sniffle,

Most don’t mind it but sometimes Steve gets a bit overprotective

As much as Steve would love to spoil his little, he can’t really online shop and going out in public means he’s going to get recognized— so him and Bruce make up some toys and such in the lab

They aren’t as tech savvy as you’d think with Bruce being there— it’s most just badly sewn stuffed animals and some train set thing they found in Tony’s closet

But his little adores them!! And Steve loves seeing them play with the toys or cuddle into the stuffies

His little will become a black & white movie stan and watch them with Bucky if Steve falls asleep too early

It happens more than you’d think

If his little is ever stuck somewhere or somehow gets involved in a mission, Steve will go insane with worry

He does not know how to relax if there’s even a hint of danger near his little

Bucky and Sam are surprisingly the ones to calm him down, but it takes a lot

If that happens, the night following will be spent wrapped up in a million blankets in front of the tv while Steve holds his little into his chest (probably a little too tightly but Shh nobody tell him)

you ever noticed the disconnect between "Cap" in the avengers movies and Steve in (ironically) the Cap movies? Cap is treated and written as more like the 'Murican propaganda character and ignores his development in Steve's trilogy, making him feel OOC to those who care. Ironically, Steve dgaf abt being Cap, he just wants to do what's right, which 3 times leads him to rebel against the US et al, and also 3 times he drops the Cap shield in the process, at key moments for Bucky (1/2)

and that disconnect between the 'Murican Cap with his Peggy compass in his pocket that shows up in the Avengers movies and the ensemble contexts vs Steve Rogers himself who is almost a mirror against almost all of that, is what makes it so sad that the people who make the movies insist on calling him "Cap". Steve is not on their radar, despite making him. They don't seem to like /Steve/ for some reason, only the 2-dimensional "Cap" (2/2)

TBH dudebros calling Steve ‘Cap’ have the same energy as the kind of guys who only refer to women as females. (Always with that weird stress on the first syllable, too, like “FE-males.” Yikes.)

Yeah you look at A1, Whedon Cap and that stupid pajama costume they put him in and you realise that he genuinely doesn’t know there’s a difference between Steve and the USO monkey; he thinks Steve is Authoritarian, not Anti-authoritarian. He doesn’t know Steve is ACAB in his bones.

(It’s unforgivable for Whedon not to know, since he was apparently asked to look the CATFA script over, and that movie makes it damn clear. I would be willing to bet cash money that we have him to partially blame for Pggy’s shit personality and wholly to blame for Sarah’s erasure.)

I would argue the makers don’t like ‘Cap’, either (and they would hate Steve!)

Having watched The Boys for the first time this week, (and having already seen people on twitter make the comparison), it really struck me how much EG Steve is just Homelander (the hair!), and Pggy is just Stormfront (especially now that they’ve overtly Kreiger-Frau’d her as Captain Coloniser) right down to how she looks, too.

There’s a reason Cynthia Glass was a dark-eyed dark-eyed woman (but Pggy Carter wasn't). It’s a reference to the Nazi higher echelons’ blatant hypocrisy in worshipping blonde blue-eyed people while looking nothing like that themselves.

Having adapted Nazi women as love interests, Nazi men as fun scene-stealing sidekicks or Mystical Stone Guardians, and making leftwing characters the villains, it’s the next logical step for them to make their most leftwing heroes into Nazis. So EG Steve is Like That.

so im curious to whether you were inspired by bucky’s character for br!ranboo or is it purely the original characterisation of the remarried empress character that he represents.

cuz like, as much as some ppl the br fandom hate ranboo, i just, dont agree. of course people are entitled to their own opinions but hes just manipulated by br!wilbur like, a lot. and people are resenting him for something thats p much out of his control. cause mans doesnt know shit abt royal things and of course theres the classism that comes with it :((

I was not inspired by Backy Barnes character and in fact I did not even watch Winter Soldier, skipping straight to Civil War because I wasn't particularly interested in Captain America as a character, but now that you've pointed it out there are certainly similarities that I can see! Ranboo is not really based on anybody except his dsmp counterpart, or at least on how I feel and view him. I'm still having some trouble with writing br!Ranboo's point of view, and it's a struggle to get his actions cooperate with the story/plot line I'm going for, but it's improving and I'm hoping it'll be enough that I can make his next character arc good :D

like idgaf abt captain colonizer tho im still waiting for marvel writers to finally understand that if steve was actually the moral force they portray him as then he wouldve drop the colonizer costume and shield yesterday, but omfg why do stony shippers hate Steve sm?

everywhere i go the shippers - really theyre just ironman fans - rag on Steve and everything abt him and anything that points to him being a character that originated from a diff franchise, and the only times they don't is when theres commercial cashgrab crossover slop that characterizes him as bland and historyless as possible. like ffs they all think that shitty avengers academy mobile game is his "best" version. atp the whole ship feels like an exercise in removing character traits until theres nothing but a blond blue eyed character design left

Honestly I think it depends on which side of the fandom your in because what you're talking Abt reminds me of the MCU Stony fandom.

Most of the people who like MCU Stony are people who mostly try cope with the fact that there wasn't really much relationship build off from Steve In that universe, because he was bland, similar to how I feel about emh Steve and EMH Stony in general despite me shipping it myself.

I think that most Stony fans don't hate Steve they just wish that the writers would like.. write him, like , good. An example of a Steve I think everyone can agree on is AA Steve, which is known for being some the best Steve characterizations we've gotten in a while, because of the way Roger Craig Smith does his softer voice and normal Steve voice that displays both a captain and a caring person that would try and help out with your problems.

And as much as I don't agree with the "Captain Colonizer" Statement, mostly because Steve is a representation of the people of America not the government, as much as marvel tries to make it seem that way cap is someone that helps the little guys and unless there's a habit avengers level threat or just something happening down town, he doesn't go side with the government, evident by the fact that in AA (S2/3ish) neither Steve and tony were working with the government, it was obviously on already uneasy terms, but after they showed lack of remorse for human lives, it ended up leading the team to split up publicly and work to help everyone underground away from ultrons weird government bullshit that entire season.

And afiak, They stopped "uneasily" working with the government after this, it was really only with big events like thanos and ultron anyway, and the avengers work alone, and they don't like being controlled by government pencil necks who don't care.

Although it should be noted that, most other Steve vary on this position, Im not gonna use civil war as a talking point here cuz both the comic and the movies adaptations are shit and Steves feelings towards the government are a lot more wishy washy in 616, and the MCU is a huge example of going in the wrong direction with how to do that. And the fact that if we're being honest Steve would go down to wherever shits going down and help him fucking self. he don't take that shit, he will defend the side of the right. Hes not about that wishy washy government bullshit as much as marvel's military funded ass shitty movie cinematic universe will try to make you believe and just and fyi: all the mcus shit is from ults.. AND IT ISNT THE GOOD STUFF FROM ULTS!!!

But anyway, most people hate Steve because they don't like the fact that Steves character keeps getting worse and worse, even more bastardized, and flanderized, and written terrible, by people who don't understand the complexites or history of his character, which end us with a problem where there are conflicts with newer steve fans who like his flanderized ults-like take in the MCU, or the comic fans who like his original version and would like for him to return back to something that truly represents him as a person, whether or not he has changed since then is entirely separate and goes too indepth so I'll leave it to the wolves.

Also, yeah most Stony fans are Tony fans, you can't have one without the other, because Tony is a key part of making the relationship work, and from what I've found Most Steve tony shippers like them both but there's either a dissonance between liking one more than the other or liking them equally, and I think that remains prevalent outside of the MCU.

And for your final question, no, most Stony fans don't think avac Steve is the best character version, idk where you got that from, but it wasn't the fandom no siree, that seems a bit biased. And as I've said earlier, the consensus on "best Steve" usually seems to be either 616 Steve or Aa Steve, me personally I like aa steve more but my other friend likes 616 Steve, and I think it really comes down to these two because one is really solid adaptable and the other is the original character finally becoming good again with writers who care about him, (tony too, hes the main reason I got back into cap comics!)

Sorry this answer is kind of long, there isn't really much of a concrete answer besides that most people hate Steve because they wish he wants written so badly 😭 it's kinda sad, but I hoped this answered your question!!! If ya have anything else to ask to drop me another ask ^_^

ik its not a big deal but its so infuriating to me when ppl completely miss the point abt what made EG steve so bad which is that he literally does not act like steve and steve wouldnt have ever done all that in the first place. like stop doing all the 'steve needs to get whats coming for him for what he did' bs! the whole point is that realistically he wouldnt have even fucking considered doing any of it and any 'fix-it' that insinuates he wouldve is completely missing the point!

Dark!Alpha!Steve Rogers x Omega!Reader

This chapter is kinda suckish tbh, but I really wanted to elaborate on Nat and Y/N’s friendship.

It took a week for your ankle to stop throbbing every time you walked. The whole time, Steve kept you confined. It wasn’t unusual for a newly bonded alpha to be overly protective, but it did get tiring for you. At least during the time, he had finished bringing the things from your room you’d need, including your phone.

The others had apparently been asking how you were, as they had seen the fresh mark on Steve’s neck and smelled the potent mix of the two of your scents. Steve had been relatively evasive, his protectiveness straying once more into the zone of overkill. Thankfully now that you had your phone, you could contact the others.

You had gotten a barrage of texts from everyone the first day you’d gone ‘missing’, asking where you were and if you were okay or needed help. Apparently someone even checked your room (likely Clint spying in from the vents) to make sure you hadn’t gotten hurt and passed out or worse. The majority of the messages were from Natasha.

Natasha was bonded to Bruce, but you and Nat had a very close relationship. It could best be described as a platonic bond, an extremely strong friendship. Steve and Bucky seemed to have the same sort of platonic affection, though it was a bit different since they were both Alpha-aligned. Natasha was almost like a mother figure to you, and in return you provided companionship and comfort when Bruce was away. It was no surprise to see she had been frantically worried about you.

After Steve had finally emerged and everyone pieced together what had happened, the texts reduced in frequency. Most of them were from Natasha, but they dropped off after a while considering you were unresponsive. Again, it was not unusual for an Omega to be kept away from communicating for the first few days after bonding, especially when the bonding had been during the Omega’s heat.

With a contented sigh, you stretched out on the couch, unlocking your phone and reading all of the texts you’d missed. Steve was in the training room, and you were a bit lonesome.

Sent 3:46 PM: Hey Nat, sorry for not responding for so long

You idly waited for a response, half paying attention to the program on the TV. Your phone buzzed after a minute.

Received 3:50 PM: No worries, hun, I know what’s going on >:3

You’d never thought of Nat as one to use things like emojis, but sometimes she surprised you. You smiled.

Sent 3:51 PM: Yeah. Kinda sick of being cooped up so long. Hurt my ankle the other day.

Received 3:53 PM: Steve told us abt that. Are you doing better?

Sent 3:55 PM: A lot better, finally can walk again. Really bored though.

You waited for a response, but none came. You sighed and sat the phone down, figuring Natasha was busy. With Steve gone and your best friend unavailable, you had little to do. other than watch TV or screw around with the few games you had on your phone that you’d already beaten several times over.

You jumped as the door swung open, looking up expectantly. Instead of Steve, however, you were greeted by the sight of a familiar redhead. You jumped from the couch and rushed over to Natasha, catching her in a hug, squirming happily.

“Hey, small fry, figured I’d come keep you company,” she said, hugging you and then heading towards the couch. She sat down with a grunt, pulling you in for a cuddle. You were always a tactile person, and everyone who knew you loved to take advantage of your self-proclaimed ‘mad snuggle skillz’. You happily curled up against her.

“I’ve missed you guys. How are the others?” you asked, curious at how the team was doing. Steve didn’t elaborate much outside of the basics, but you could always get Nat to spill the juicy details.

“Pretty good. Bucky is currently getting the shit beat out of him by someone’s Alpha,” she said, poking at your side. You squirmed, unsure of how to respond. “I think he made some comment about you.” She paused. “Steve been treating you good?”

Her tone was soft, but there was an edge to it. It wasn’t directed at you, thankfully, you’d hate to be on the receiving end of Natasha’s wrath. “Yeah. He, um… kinda scares me though,” you admitted, avoiding eye contact. Natasha rubbed your back comfortingly.

“He can be like that. Is he warming up though? Not giving you hell for everything anymore?”

You waved your hand in a so-so gesture. “A lot better than before, but I’m pretty sure he still thinks I’m stupid,” you grumbled. “He won’t let me do anything for myself.”

“So just like before?” Nat chuckled. You nodded with a pout. She smiled at you. “Hun, he’s not doing that because he thinks your stupid. In fact, I’ve heard him gush about how smart and sharp-witted you are. He’s doing that because he wants to take care of you.”

“I guess,” you mumbled, still not quite buying it. Natasha flicked the back of your head.

“Don’t use that tone with me, missy,” she teased. “But really, it’s true. He knows your very capable of taking care of yourself. Maybe he just finds that a bit intimidating, so he’s making sure you know that he’s in charge.”

“He’s made that perfectly clear,” you sighed, scooting down until you were laying with your head in Natasha’s lap. She ran her fingers through your hair.

Natasha smiled gently. “Just give him a chance. Get in tune with the Omega part of you that was buried for so long. You’ll adjust to each other in time.”

In tune with your Omega side, huh? Maybe she had a point. You hadn’t acted much like an Omega for years, all your base instincts and desires quelled. Now they were coming back and you were struggling to cope. Perhaps rather than fight them as you were, you should try to cope with them by allowing them back into your life.

With a groan, you turned over and closed your eyes. It was too much to think about all at once. For now, You’d just enjoy the company of your friend.

Steve smelled another Alpha. He let out a low growl, a warning to whoever it was. He walked into the living-room where the scent was strongest and was surprised to see only you curled up on the couch. You looked up with wide, innocent eyes. “Hi Steve.”

Steve frowned, nearing you and smelling the air. He recognized the scent now, it was Natasha. She must’ve come to visit you. He knew the two of you were close, but he couldn’t help the swell of jealousy in him.

“Steve?” you asked cautiously. You were soaked in her scent. He growled.

“You smell like another Alpha, little girl. I don’t like that,” he stated grimly. You frowned.

“Natasha came and sat with me a while. I was lonely,” you explained, shifting in your seat.

Steve pressed you back into the couch, his nose against your neck. He nipped at the still-healing mark on your tender skin. You whimpered. He soothed the spot over with his tongue, then jerked away.

“C’mon,” he said gruffly, “we’re going to get rid of that smell.” He knew he was being a bit irrational, but having someone else’s smell on you, and Alpha’s scent nonetheless, was putting him in a possessive rage. The sooner you were washed clean, the better.

He led you to the bathroom, jerking open the shower door before prompting you to remove your clothes and toss them in the hamper. He herded you into the shower, feet scuffling on the dry tile. He yanked off his own clothing, which were sweaty from his training session with Bucky. He joined you in the shower, slamming the door shut and effectively trapping you in with him.

The scent of Natasha and You was much more concentrated in the small space, and he growled in frustration, turning on the water. The warm water trickled down your body, accentuating your features. You looked up at Steve with wide eyes as though you were frightened of what he was going to do.

Steve nudged you until your were under the stream of water, turning and grabbing your shampoo. Instead of allowing you to wash yourself, he carefully washed you. His large hands were surprisingly gentle as they ran through your hair, every now and then brushing soap away from your eyes. He watched with satisfaction as you relaxed to his touch, eyes shutting.

Reverently, he continued to clean the rest of your body. God, you were perfect. His hands slid over your hips, coated in soap suds. He caressed your flesh tenderly, hoping that what he struggled to show through his words and expressions could be displayed by his touch. As he finished, he stood and turned you around, pressing against you. He tucked his head in the crook of your neck, rumbling.

You relaxed against him, allowing his strong arms to support you as the warm water relaxed your muscles. Timidly, you tilted your head back, looking up at Steve. He looked down at you curiously, your eyes locking for several long seconds before you finally looked away towards the floor.
