Going on record to say Rings of Power absolutely slaps, as a lifelong Tolkien fan I'm so disappointed the way people tried so hard to judge it before it even aired and wanted it to be bad so much that they've literally convinced people to be afraid to watch it and judge for themselves. The visuals are STUNNING, the costumes are phenomenal, the creature design is haunting and so visceral. And the characters and world feel so *lived* miss me with that shit about it being low effort or budget, you can't judge a show by a handful of promo stills. I'm glad I didn't listen to the bs takes from people who are mostly just trying to hide their bigotry behind Tolkien worshipping zealotry.

Looking up new content for other Tolkien adaptations makes me HAPPY. Looking up LotR Musical stuff enrages me. Part of the reason for this is that people consider themselves to be experts on it once they've read the Wikipedia article and listened to the cast recording. Oh I CANNOT stand that condescending tone.

Yes, it was a financial disaster. The Elbphilharmonie was a much bigger financial disaster. So what? Did you pay for it? Yes, they cut down the storylines by a lot. What exactly did you miss? Oh right, that was a general statement. You don't actually know/remember what's there. Yes, one cast member was severely injured during previews. However, he recovered and rejoined the production. There are lots of other, far worse (in the long run) stories by former cast members. Finding out about those would require doing some actual research (or talking to somebody who knows).

Honestly, what did I expect considering that professional theatre critics explicitly mock performers for their looks and body or get away with blatant racism and transphobia. What. did. I. expect. from YouTubers and random Twitter users.

People think Tolkien was racist. I did a lot of deep diving and… no. White people wrote about white people back then… and still do… and his stuff is based on Norse and English mythology.

Can’t get any “whiter” than Norse and English mythology and he is white, so… If you want to call anyone racist, it’s those who created those tales and myths he based things on… as if he would know that in the 1930s when the internet and political correctness didn’t exist… get over yourselves and do some research and think about the historical context and the kinds of things he was inspired by within his own heritage. Please.

His works are so heavily influenced by these mythologies that it’s difficult to say he made these things up out of his own head and any blame for any form of “racism” would be chalked up to the original mythologies. Of course, he realistically didn’t think or even recognize anything of the sort! It was the 1930s and he was in WWI!!

Strange how MANY who love DND still make this argument even when DND takes SO much from Tolkien and much of the same lore that he used for his own inspiration! I don’t see people faulting DND fans.

OR are you idiotic enough to look at the movie versions of orcs, for example, and decide that was racist? Because, last I saw in the novels, the orcs and Uruk-hai don’t have black skin and the Uruk-hai don’t have “dreads” or whatever. The films aren’t Tolkien’s literal vision. They’re Jackson’s and the people who did the designs!

If you knew LOTR better you’d also know that the orcs are “spiritually” corrupted elves. Much like fallen angels, if you will. Tolkien was heavily influenced by Catholicism as well.

The ideas of light/dark good/evil is quite innate to humans in general as literal darkness can be a source of danger because not only can humans not see in the dark, at nighttime, there are predators that can attack and harm humans. It’s quite common sense to understand why humans would believe that darkness would be associated with evil. Whereas light comes from the sun and we need the sun to survive and we can see and be alert during the day as well. The sun is what drives away those predators that would do harm in the night. Again, it’s quite common sensical and far reaching nonsense to think the ideas of light/dark and good/evil are somehow inherently racist…

Sure, the stories between the good and bad are somewhat two dimensional in some aspects, but his forms of races clashing against one another is from MYTHOLOGY and folklore that has existed for centuries! While it may seem shortsighted to us today, it wasn’t really a thought on anyone’s radar that it was highly offensive enough to be called racist.

Again, get over yourself and don’t be stupid. You have a brain. Use it. 

Don’t listen to hearsay. The internet is FULL of idiots!

Sorry, end of rant. I didn’t want to be mean, but I’m sick and tired of people taking political correctness too far. Sure, the idea of Tolkien being racist became a contention in the 90s, but it died out for a reason. Sensationalism. That’s all it’s been.

I've read all your stuff and I just re-read soulscars and I have to say I think you got everyone's characterisation really well esp Sam! And oh my gosh the ending of legolas talking about his father and gimli was so funny and so accurate af. Honestly legolas needs to stroll on into mirkwood with gimli ranting and raving about the trees and the fog and the spiders and then be taken to Thranduil, legolas would be amused and annoyed by them both. I normally don't read fics like this but I got in a ✨mood✨ I haven't done that in literally 5/6 years I actually think closer to 6! This list will be unordered, because I am bad at sorting the ideas in my brain 😂

My friends make me really happy, both irl and not (@the-magpieprince ❤️ thank you for letting me rant at you), and even tho I may be rather asocial and introverted, I do love being around ppl. My parents are also ppl who make me really happy, and every time we talk it puts a smile on my face and makes me less anxious

Maths. That's it. I fucking love maths so much, it's actually worrying. I spend most of my free time either thinking/working on my thesis, or writing weird codes on python to make cute gifs. Maths is like the thing that I constantly think about, and has gotten me out of so many panic attacks (prime factorisation or Fibonacci sequence is my go to)

Reading. I've always loved reading, and I didn't do it much during lockdown because I wasn't in the vibe, but I'm back now! Currently I'm going through lotr, and I've just started the two towers. Reading is such a fun activity for me, and I sincerely look forward to reading every night, even if it's just a page

During lockdown I didn't really read much, but instead I got much more into twitch. I used to watch replays casually, and maybe watch a few lives here and there, but it wasn't a constant. Now, however, I have a weekly schedule with something pretty much every night (and if not, I'll watch replays). For instance right now, I have la soirée du lundi on Mondays, Popcorn on Tuesdays, replays or casual streams on Wednesdays, Backseat on Thursdays, la soirée est tienne on Fridays, replays or casual streams on Saturdays, and Indiemanche on Sundays. These shows, and these streamers do bring a smile on my face every time I watch them, I love their good and chill vibe.

Fandom (and particularly the rnm fandom, and everyone on discord ❤️) is such a great thing, and really makes me happy (and the Tumblr block and filtering aspects). Writing fics, reading fics, seeing amazing gifs and fanart, is such a wonderful thing. And I love being a part of it all, it's such a great feeling to have ppl from all over the world liking the same thing and talking about it

So this is the list, I think this is a good summary of what makes me happy, tho there's for sure more stuff! Like food, and going to the gym, and watching the flowers outside and many more things.

I realised during lockdown and during my first year of uni that I was not very happy in general, so I decided to start with small things and spending a few moments a day just sitting down and listing one thing that made me happy that day.

And those five things listed up there and the ones that make me the happiest, so I'll keep doing those (sorry babe @the-magpieprince , that means I'll probably keep renting to you ❤️😂)

Fantasy adventures with waffles, for the wip ask game? :0

Oof, this one took me a while to answer-- sorry about that! Okay so I already answered an ask about this one here, so instead I shall take this opportunity to rant a little about some of the characters further!

Okay so we have Trey, the main character. He is the embodiment of my "man adventure sounds cool but WOW does it sound terrifying think I'm gonna pass" instincts, except he ends up getting dragged into those adventures and remains the Only Brain Cell at almost all times

Adelis is the person who dragged him into those adventures. She was inspired by none other than my own beloved Aragorn from LOTR, but has since evolved into a fantasy UPS driver who gets involved in stuff because she likes to help people! She's also the daughter of a Fae and a queen, but didn't take the throne, instead leaving it to her sister (who is amazing and I love her so much). She also has a sword and a really cool cloak

She also has a best friend, Colin! Colin is a selkie, and also a shameless flirt, and also incredibly loyal to Adelis. He gets them into a lot of trouble, but Adelis does, too, so they balance each other out. (also they're not love interests, I just wanna make that clear. Colin has a different love interest in the future)

Those are the main three, but there are a lot more-- an assassin and his sister, two crews of pirates (who are all so chaotic and delightful), a Fae librarian/doctor, Adelis's sister and brother, and plenty of others!

U know who they'd REALLY find cringe. The 60s housewives that started modern day fandom as we know it ooOOohhh

We owe these women our lives 👑

But I think misogyny is actually a huge part of the problem. Nobody calls grown men in their 50s cringe for dressing up in the colors of their fav sports teams, painting their logos on their chests etc - and that's good because these men aren't cringe either.

It's just that fandom is, in wide parts, female/female presenting/people who identify themselves as female and that means we're not taken seriously. As a small woman I can tell you I still don't get taken seriously in everyday life until I fight for that respect, and the reaction when I tell people I'm writing fanfiction is so fucking disrespecting and belittling. While my husband, who's an absolute Star Wars and LOTR nerd, never gets scorned upon for his fandoms.

Plus in the eyes of society, that's okay as long as we're, say, in our early 20s. But then, having hobbies gets cringe because we gotta raise kids and we need to grow up and take care of our families. That's still deeply ingrained in society's mindset. Those are things I myself got told already.

It's misogyny, plain and simple - the same misogyny those 60s housewives who started fandom as we know it today experienced.

Sorry for the rant, I can't shut up about this topic 😅 I really don't know where this surge in cringe culture is coming from but I know we need to suffocate it before it catches fire. If anyone ever tells you you're cringe for doing fandom stuff, flip 'em the bird, lovelies🖤

I'm a pretty awkward and socially anxious brown 23 year old girly, though I try to make the best out of it by being kind. I've got (self deprecating) humor but sometimes im too shy to express it irl (general problem of opening up to ppl). Also pretty sensitive but that also means i'm hyper aware of trying not being a dick to others. So I'm chill but also veryyyy protective and caring which means when someone I care about is being compromised emotionally or physically, then all social anxiety and shyness flies out the window and i get into whatever state it takes to protect them. I'm the eldest daughter, could you tell?

I'd say I'm not conventionally pretty, maybe an aqcuired taste at best. Got dark long hair and brown eyes. About 5'6 in height.

Pretty geeky at heart. I love all kinds of movies and tv shows (lotr, star wars, mcu obvi). And reading anything that makes me feel something, which lately has been poetry. Also i like to paint (digitally). Other interests: philosophy, religion, science (i'm in medical school).

Firstly, the title absolutely divine, but then I am a sucker for romantically poetic notions especially if there's a thread of angst in it

This is the first Thorin fic I've ever read, I'm not that big on Thorin (esp not when fili is right there👀 ) but *ahem that gif also your note of 'the intimacy of going insane with your crush' reeled me in, if that isn't the best genre ever! 🤣

You captured the eerie murkiness of Mirkwood so well and you really got Thorin's essence like nothing seemed out of place at all

THE DIALOGUE 👏👏👏 magnifique

'In the bogs of a cursed forest with your friends lost and your mind bewitched, all so that the king would keep looking at you as he was now'>>> I loved every word of this. You know that feeling when you haven't listened to ABBA in a while and then out of nowhere you hear it playing somewhere and there's a rising of joy in your soul and it feels like all the world has been righted. That is the feeling of that paragraph. Sorry but I love words and I love reading and you just killed it with that wording okay

🌌THE WHOLE INTERACTION WITH BOG CREATURE THORIN!!!! "I'm so glad, Amrâlimê, you must not look so surprised, my love" his thumb grazed your jaw, "that I should wish to call you such a name">>>cue me almost throwing my phone and screeching like the fell beasts of the Nazg��l🌌

Not to mention Thorin's interaction with the bog creatures! "Reader" being dismissive about the safety of the others and 'Thorin offering a baffled look that doubled as a warning'

I feel like celtic/irish stuff and Gaelige fit quite well in Tolkien's creation. I dunno why but the Irish language feels at home in Tolkien's world to me, same with Scottish Gaelic

I have such little grasp of my own language it feels like old world/other worldly literary/mythical creation to me. Probably why it meshes so well with Middle Earth in my mind. Like it doesn't seem real to me but maybe that's cuz I'm from the North 🤣 (I will get my ass in gear and learn it better one day but laziness and annoyance win thus far)

The title is actually based on a poem about sirens! I thought it fit the vibe of the fic really well.

Dialogue is something I've always struggled with. I could use a thousand words to describe a tree but I always get nervous when it comes to dialogue. I feel like when I write conversations they're always clunky so to get such positive feedback about that aspect of my writing is so lovely <3

GIRL YOU DID NOT JUST COMPARE MY WRITING TO ABBA! I needed to sit down reading this part. This is the greatest compliment I've ever received–

“If an siúlóir portaigh get you drowned do you become one of them?” when it comes to the siúlorí I haven't really fleshed them out enough (haha get it) to have any solid lore for them. So far all I have is that they roam bogs, marshes and wetlands and use a siren-like approach when hunting their prey. Wether they attack people to sustain themselves, to condemn their victim to the same faith as them or just out of maliciousness I haven't decided. It's completely up to interpretation :)

Bestie, don't get me started on how well the Irish language and Irish culture fits into the world of Tolkien. I could write essays. I think that's why I've always found middle earth so comforting, it's a fractured reflection of my own home.

As someone who's been out of school for a year and is still learning gaeilge, I promise we'll get there someday :)

Prior to my Thorin fic I hadn't written anything since October of last year due to writers block and self doubt. So to not only hear such lovely things about my writing but to also be compared to a published author– You have no idea how much it means to me. Thank you so much! You are every writer's dream.

So, just to let y’all know what I’ve been into the past few months, I decided to make a list. some of these things haven’t changed from the past but others have! so if you see me reblogging more about the new things you don’t have to be startled at all :)

A) things 🍑 I still enjoy:

word of honor & faraway wanderers : I don’t think that’s ever gonna change tbh. I’m still writing a long fic for woh and I plan to at least get another one finished for the fandom before taking a break from creating for it. I had one more in store, but it’s becoming oddly personal and I think I’ll work on it in my spare time and possibly never post it, who knows!;

winter begonia : I fell in love with the drama and I’m still reading the novel that it was based on, so of course I’m gonna stick to them for a very long time! I have a long wip in place and another planned for the drama, but they require a lot of research and I’m collecting various pieces of information to give them justice. so I may be on hold in the fandom but not forever!;

other various danmei novels/shows: I’m still waiting on winner is king drama to air :( so you can see me ranting about sha po lang in equal measure. then there’s golden stage, my absolute love, and lord seventh :D so yay for that!;

good omens : the love is resurfacing due to the new season creeping in on us, but it never quite left in the first place. expect more content on the ineffable husbands and their unruly children >:) cannot wait!;

welcome to night vale : I want to pick up the podcast again! :( but I’m a perfectionist at heart and I cannot fathom skipping episodes! so I will have to plan my listening schedule accordingly. wish me luck!;

B) things 👯‍♀️ I don’t quite enjoy anymore:

the untamed & mdzs : I’m sorry but... it’s not doing it for me anymore ;-; which is sad bc I made good friends through that ;—; but my sparks only come back in regards to it while reading meta or character analysis. I still have some fics saved that I occasionally re-read from my favorite authors, but I think I have outgrown my stay in the fandom. I will be forever grateful for mdzs for introducing me to a bunch of new interesting things to delve into in 2020, for keeping me company during forced isolation and for bringing me joy with lots of new people. AND I think it’s time to let go at the same time. this doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy my friends rambling to me about this or that character, this or that plot point or fanon scenario tho! I’ll just keep my distance and let them have fun :) it’s ok;

lotr & the hobbit : only a few of you will know that this blog was originally a bagginshield nostalgia blog in origin. the username is evidence of that after all! I will always love both fandoms, but I haven’t looked for new content of fics in a while and I routinely re-read old fics rather than engaging with brand new creations so... it’s time to let go. I considered changing my username too, but since i share it with my art blog idk what to do... we will see!;

anime in general : namely Mob Psycho 100. I will always love it, don’t get me wrong. but I haven’t had the emotional capacity to engage with mp100 final season yet and I don’t think I’m ready to let go of it. I will suspend my judgment for now, waiting for when I will be ready to properly move on;

C) NEW ✨ things I enjoy now:

house of the dragon : look. I don’t really care for got or the book!canon in general. I’m just a casual fan ;-; no need to explain all the details to me. more than being a rude tourist who doesn’t bother to learn about the culture, think of me as a tired hostess or steward forced to take a liking to the local fast food place in between flights. that would be me, flipping through the menu and getting hooked on r//haenicent content bc I’m but a smol bi and a simp for pretty and dramatic ladies. sue me. I’m not interested in the discourse, I don’t want to know who is terrible and why, this is fictional and I am tired. but if you see me reblogging stuff from there I will tag accordingly with the proper tags from now on, so you can mute safely;

the devil judge : some of you may have noticed I started talking about this kdrama somewhere about last October and I haven’t been the same since. I won’t write for the fandom but expect me to be annoying and hyper focused on it at all times when you less expect it. I can be quite steadfast in certain aspects of my fandom life and this is no exception;

helluva boss : me? liking indie-turned-super-popular animation? in this economy? it’s more likely than you’d think! look. I’m slightly less casual and more committed about this compared to my recent hotd fixation. but. once again, I have no interest in the discourse. I will reblog stuff from it and make an effort to tag even if I grew out of the habit as of recently. I found out about it last April and it helped with my anxiety. I’m enjoying something new after a long time and it doesn’t even require me to create content for it either. I can just lay back and chill. so. no fighting;

don’t hug me I’m scared : ik it’s unsettling and I care deeply about it, ok? but ik some of you are a bit uncomfortable with the material so I will take precautions and tag appropriately. I will only reblog stuff from the fandom bc I have no mental energy to create any content for it. I have no ship to board and no intention to join any ship tho, so there’s that. I just like the medium and mindlessly engage with it, triggering or not. sometimes I trigger myself just by paying attention to it, but I won’t subject y’all to it and will tag, I promise;

dune : I will be obnoxious about it. blame the upcoming movie for it. the visuals are pretty, the ladies are even prettier and even though I don’t really care for the tim boy I am endlessly entertained by his character since Paul and his life choices are amusing to me: he makes no damn sense, compels me though. also expect me to be annoying af about bene gesserit shenanigans in general bc. well. I’m only human;

the hunger games : less than dune, but the new movie interests me quite a bit. I love me some fictional villains and meta on them. their fictional struggles fascinate me. I don’t want to engage in the discourse with this one either;

succession : I have not watched the series, but an old friend of mine very enthusiastically insisted I give it a try so I will do that while trying to avoid spoilers at the same time. the stakes are high!;

D) things 👀 I’m looking forward to:

crafting : I want to make tiny things ;-; where is the time tho????

reading : there are so many things I want to read! mental health has been wild recently, I barely had energy to keep up with my favorite fic updates :( that’s all I have had energy for in the past few months ;—;

drama series : I’ve been given excellent suggestions but I keep falling asleep at odd times and haven’t found the time for that yet. which is very sad and very upsetting;

drawing : I feel like I haven’t practiced in a very long time and that’s unacceptable!;

music : I have new albums to listen to from my favorite artists, but I feel like I’m putting it off bc I fear I won’t enjoy them much :( , on the other hand I have received amazing suggestions and I’m excited to give them a try!;

I think this is all! I will probably put a “keep reading” on this later on. but yeah! It’s nice to be back :)

hi anon!! 😙 thank you for asking 💐🌷💕☺️SADLY most of my opinions are just a response to some take i saw on my pinterest explore page that i personally didnt agree with… im gonna put it under the cut so if this ends up in any tag i wont spam anyone bc its not like different interpretations of characters/text do any harm etc etc its gonna be a long, incoherent rant, without any formatting since im on mobile, so, um watch out :,) also please dont reblog

i really really dislike what feels like majority of the interpretation of the legolas/gimli relationship, like the way people portray them is sooo weird…the constant mutual antagonizing and the focus on bickering!!!! its another movie adaptation thing, because those removed most, if not all tenderness from them (the miniscule gay budget got used up for sam & frodo i guess). the appeal of gimli and legolas is not that they bicker the appeal is that they love eachother so much despite the general tensions between their peoples (although im not a fan of those tensions being overplayed for dramatics) and despite erus prophecy that there would always be conflict between elves and dwarves!!!!!!!!!!

i dislike the common fanon/movie portrayal of gimli but i think ive actually talked enough about that so im gonna talk about legolas because i also disagree with the common interpretations his character seems to find, although it doesnt bother me as much as with gimli, mostly because people still think hes cool. ANYWAYS! i think painting legolas as super hair- and beauty-obsessed (to the point of it bordering on homophobia) was luckily mostly left in the past, though pinterest still bombards me with bad memes, but i still really hate it 😒 another common thing ive seen, thats also more current, is legolas as an idiot who eats bugs or whatever which IS more fun than the first one and also closer to his book-self but i still dislike it simply because i hate when a happy/optimistic character gets headcanoned as being stupid…its unappealing and boring and i dont think its implied anywhere that legolas is exceptionally dumb :( i do like weird kid legolas a lot though hes special to me <3.

anyways since were on the topic of legolas lets talk about his family since thats another fandom/HOBBIT MOVIES favorite to distort! legolas mother is very very likely a silvan elf and very likely not dead in my opinion . i personally think silvan elves are neutral/if not positively inclined towards dwarves 👍 dont like the common fanon of extreme hatred that was taught to legolas by his parents and also dont dont dont like fanon thranduil & everything the hobbit movies made him out to be!!!!!!! i dont doubt that thranduil had some ill will towards dwarves since the whole thingol slaying and doriath thing… but thranduil is canonically a very good king and very kind, and i dont think he would let a grudge against a specific dwarf clan define his relations to a neighbouring kingdom that doesnt even belong to the same clan!!! someone who kept his kingdom save and out of trouble for so long and also has the closest relations to their neighbouring kingdom of men out of all the elven realms would be better than that and atleast be neutral and not hostile sorry this wasnt meant to be about the hobbit movies but i could go ON a out them i cant see legolas in those without laughing at him dear god. the implication that legolas, who supposedly hated dwarves, shared a horse with gimli and then was a changed man is very funny though.

also, since im going off on a tangent anyways, i think mîm didnt do anything wrong and also thingol and the dwarven smiths were both at fault for the conflict. sorry for the dwarf bias but someone has to be on their side because i still see too many people hating on them

back to lotr: i think blond blue eyed legolas is boring, i hate what they did to elrond and boromir in the movies, i think saruman and sauron being basically brothers is a very funny interpretation that we should talk about more and i hateee almost all modern lotr aus because its hars to replicaze into modern world and also aragorn would NOT be a CEO!!!!!!!!!! a good king in tolkienverse is benevolent and puts his subjects first and he is a healer. oh about legolas and gimli/mirkwood and erebor again, sorry im a one trick pony, i think that both thranduil & unnamed wife as well as gloin & unnamed wife love their kids too much to truly oppose them being together. gloin may be hotheaded but hes not stubborn enough to not ever back down, see the council of elrond: hes mad, rightfully so, to find out that a servant of mordor was apprentely treated better as a prisoner than thorin & company but seeing as the responsible party, thranduil, is not even there, and how theres very important business to discuss he quickly backs down and even bows to legolas as an apology!!!!

i tried to find out if we know how long exactly the dwarves were imprisoned, and it seems it was about 20 days, while gollum was there for around 90 days, so perhaps they would have let the dwarves get some fresh hair eventually as well . not that gloin wasnt rightfully angry, he was! and still very gracious about it . love gloin hes great

also TRUE unpopular opinion incoming: im neutral on sam/frodo…its cute yes but i dont have any big thoughts about them and i think sam and rosie are very sweet :^) but also i dont trust people who completely dislike it esp cishets…. legolas and gimli are basically canon to me like they did that. okay ready for another TRUE AND REAL unpopular opinion. i think faramir is kind of boring and i dont care much for him, sorry ❤️‍🩹

That anon never said the dune characters were not developed or hard to understand. I agree with that anon, I realised that I don't particularly care about any of the dune characters, and that is down to how denis is as a director. Chani, who was the heart of part 2, is cool, but if she died or something were to happen to her, I'd probably be like "dang....oh well". This is why Paul atriedes doesn't hold a candle to anakin skywalker( there were a lot of comparisons when part 2 came out. And yes, anakin and star wars was inspired by Dune and paul). With anakin we actually see him do worse things on camera (k*****g children) as opposed to paul and yet ppl not only empathise with anakin because of how much was put in to make us care about him but ppl even seem to love him. Paul is a tragic character and not really a great guy, but I don't even feel hate for him because I already felt nothing. Long rant, sorry, but denis has always been remarkable with spectacle and failed at the core of characters, which is why Dune falls short to the likes of Star Wars and lotr in those regards

Can you really compare Anakin Skywalker (who we saw grow up from a kid, to a teenager, to a vicious adult) over a span of SEVERAL Star Wars films, to Paul Atreides, who we don't have that same development? 🤔

There have only been two Dune films out so far, and Paul is already an adult when we see him in the first film. Whereas we have seen Anakin grow from an innocent child, to an evil adult over a span of like 9 films and COUNTLESS countless series, cartoons, TV shows, etc. 👀

I just don't think it's a good comparison imo. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm not even so sure people were sympathizing with Anakin/Darth Vader like that when "A New Hope", "Return of the Jedi", etc all came out back then. 🥴

Sometimes, you have to let time pass by and films and characters evolve.

We NOW have sympathy for Anakin because of ALL of the films that have come out in the franchise....

We haven't seen film 3 in the Dune installment yet. We haven't seen everything that transpires with Paul OR Chani. You might be changing your mind once you see all of the films and their succession of their characters. Just saying.... 🤷🏾‍♀️

Idk about you, but as a WOMAN I felt sorry for Chani in that ending scene. 🤷🏾‍♀️

My bf keeps making jokes about getting married. Yesterday we went on a date and I the car he was joking about proposing at an LOTR event. Really it's just a harmless joke, I know that... But he keeps making these kinds of jokes a lot. Just joking about getting married. Even asked about my ring size after my mom got me a ring as a birthday present.

Last year I had an honest conversation about marriage with him. I remember feeling a little upset afterwards, because he said it would be too early to get married and would not bring any benefits (like taxes and stuff). There are also a lot of other circumstances which would make this really difficult for us (as I have a lot of responsibilities with school and would literally not have the time to plan anything at all). So just saying this is not only about him not wanting to marry me (not saying he will ever do that though).

So I try not to bring it up. At all. Because I know that I can't allow myself to dream. I don't want to obsess about getting married, I want to focus on something else. Hell I know that I wouldn't feel ready to be a wife yet anyway, so why does this bother me so much? Idk.

I just want to feel important. Just one day in my life I want to be seen, one day I would love to be more than I am. I have always been the person that people forget about, the one that gets left behind, the one that is not important. I can't even count how many terrible birthdays I had and how soooo many of my 'friends' don't even reach out to wish me a happy birthday (not joking, like every year they forget about me).

I tried to stop caring. To pretend it doesn't matter. I tried to pretend like my special days are not important to me, like I am okay with everyone not saying anything. Told my bf and family that I did not want to celebrate this year because there is nothing to celebrate. It's just my birthday. It's the day where my depression is at its worst.

I have always been made to feel insignificant. Be in in school or even if former relationships. I know that I am not special but damn I wish I could just be seen for a single day. Just a single day of people noticing me. Is that too much to ask for?

Been always bullied because of my weight. Always. I have always been the fat disgusting blob I am today. I used to find comfort in food, because it tasted great and since they bullied me no matter what I did I might as well eat right? Eat all my worries away.

Not anymore though. I realize that the first people notice about me is my weight. They look at me, disgusted, this fat blob just trying to pass. Oh sorry, my gigantic ass needs to pass through without wiping everything from the table with my clumsy, fat body.

I feel so worthless. I want to get married - but I have to be skinny first. I can't make a good friend/ girlfriend/ wife when I am just eating everything in front of me. I have no self-control. I need to be skinny. I need to be pretty. I want my future husband to be able to lift me up, I want him to be able to brag to his friends and coworkers about his hot wife.

Matter of fact is though that I will most likely never be skinny, I will never be pretty, I will not be important and I will also never be anyone's wife.

I know this is long, just needed to rant a little bit...

Actually, I got into Lord of the Rings because of my brother as well (we get along really well and we share out favorite shows and movies all the time, I love him :D). Lord of the Rings is my brother's favorite thing ever and he wanted to watch the movies with me so I could see why.

I must admit, when I first watched Fellowship I was a little lost because I didn't know the characters back then or the world or anything. It felt a little slow (the first movie is, but now I can appreciate it nonetheless) and my brother made the mistake of introducing them to me with the extended edition, which are longer.

But then we watched Two Towers, and I was already very into it, but with the second movie I definitely fell in love. At that point, I couldn't stop watching and I was super excited when we started the third one and I cried with the ending just like I cry everytime I rewatch. It's so good and so emotional and so beautiful!

As they say, the rest is history, because Lord of the Rings is now (probably) my favorite thing ever in all of fiction too. Both as a writer and a reader it is the best fantasy world out there and the story and the characters and the soundtrack, everything about LOTR is perfect.

The only thing missing is that I haven't read the books yet, but I'm hoping I can get to it this year :P

Thoughts

So I loved the extended editions. so. much. Good spending of birthday money as far as I’m concerned. 

I love love loved many of the additional scenes,

For example when Sam talked in verse about Gandalf’s fireworks, 

or these scenes here: 

but. ALL the EXTra BitS with Aragorn. I LIKE his CharaCter bUt ComE ON WHy all the dreaming of hIS unnecessary elven sweetHEart DyIng what was the ReAson?? AND the pilANTIR scene WAS so DRAMAtic I mean, Was it in tHE books, YEAH sort Of bUt not nearly as DraMatic, Arwen involving or about how the ISildur’s heir was HUNTED BY SAURON What the ACTUAL - 

calm now, he essentially told Sauron that he had the ring in the books, not that he was isildur’s heir so im so important you need to come fight me. 

Lord of the rings is about evil destroying evil not a guy and his crown.
