do you think newjeans is an sm group (or could very much be one)? i remember when they debut, a lot of the reaction was of that. which is only normal considering newjeans' ceo was a large factor as to why sm is sm.

people point out the members' visuals as sm but hybe is relatively a new company so what holds as their standard is hard to define for now. (taeyeon/irene + kangta/jaejoong/s*won as clear examples of an "SM face"). also, i sometimes forget that some groups are under hybe because there are so fu-cking many now and they're going to debut like 4/5 new groups next year. it literally does not make any sense to me.

other than that, i don't really feel like newjeans gives off an sm vibe? i feel like it has a lot to do with the training system and what each company emphasizes on. it seems that newsjeans is gonna be more dance-focused like all of the other hybe groups. sm groups usually have a distinct vocal color - despite being under the same company, each group holds their own.

slkdjflskdfjslkdfj they are NOTHING like an sm group. like you said, sm has very specific branding in terms music, sound, and visuals, and also in HOW they construct their groups as well. i said it in ask a long time ago, but sm is the only company where i can say that they have a distinctive methodology of how they assemble a group and who has what positions/fills specific archetypes. although a lot of their artists are what would be considered 'all rounders,' sm groups have very specific positions that artists are meant to fill according to how they are assigned and there isn't a lot of deviation from that in group context. there's very little confusion as to who the main vocalists/dancers/centers are. hybe has more of a.............egalitarian approach (well, that's what it translates to, i don't think that's what they intend) where they expect everyone to have an equal level of performance skill and bill groups as being 'performance' oriented, but then they don't have anyone else in a strongly defined other role. like how do you have an obvious main dancer when your whole group can sort of all pass as main dancers? how do you tell who the main vocalist is if you don't have any strong vocalists taking the bulk of the lines and exercising their park n bark privilege? i couldn't tell you what the position of any of the girls in newjeans is unless i looked it up, but i could immediately tell with aespa.

the only thing they have in common is that they have a similar approach to aesthetic branding, and that's literally bc it's the same person doing both.

Time heals all wounds. But Malleus knew that wasn’t true. Yes, time may heal physical wounds, although not always perfectly, but it no longer weeps or festers. Whereas emotional wounds, such as trauma, grief, and anger do not fade or heal in the same manner as a cut would.

Malleus was standing outside the entrance of Ramshackle, once his nightly walking grounds turned to the home of the first person that befriended him for him. The first person who didn’t know or care, even after finding out about his identity, that he was the Malleus Draconia. A magicless human who treated him as they did with others, but with a tad bit more ease, humour, and kindness since they were friends.

Were friends.

His heart knew though that you weren’t just friends. He had felt this emotion before to some extent with his passion for gargoyles, but they paled in comparison to you.

Your brightness. Your laugh. Your little mannerisms that most wouldn’t pay attention to, but he did.

“Do you think we’ll still be friends when we’re older,” you mused while on one of your nightly walks with Malleus. Malleus furrowed his brow and looked at you quizzically, “Why wouldn’t we be? I have no intention of not being in your life.” You had stopped moving forward and Malleus came to a stop beside you. “Well, I don’t know. You’re a prince, future king, and you might get swapped in royal business and duties…” You pursed your lips, an unpleasant taste in your mouth. “And isn’t that more important?” “Do you not like spending time with me?” Malleus’ voice was more sharp, on edge. “NO!” You shouted, the word echoing a bit in the quiet night. “I like spending time with you. I love it!” Malleus looked at you with confusion, and if he were looking at anyone else the way he had been in the past minute, they would have been grovelling, asking for forgiveness. But not you. “Then why did you bring it up in the first place? Should there not be time, I will simply make it,” he said quietly. A small smile and chuckle replaced the irritated look of moments prior, “I will even make it ‘royal business’ as you put it.” You cough-laughed at his statement, but you only laughed harder when you looked at him to see a baffled expression. Malleus chuckled lightly, joining your amusement, even though he didn’t understand what was so funny that had you tearing up. You let out a long sigh, recollecting yourself. “Well, I’ll be there then, promise.”

And you had held that promise. Despite both of your hectic lives, you both met at least twice a month. If neither of you had the time? Well, Malleus would just show up outside your place, like old times, and you would both go about the property. Sometimes talking away, and other times in silence, just happy to be next to each other again.

Malleus knew he liked you, loved you even — the way he felt more like himself when he was around you, and a tinge of jealousy made that distinction clear — and he was planning on asking you if you felt the same.

But he didn’t have the chance.

He would never have the chance.

He knew that he wouldn’t have many years with you, but he had planned that it was old age that took you away from him.

Ramshackle had not changed, but Malleus could still smell the scent of soot, even after all of these years. The foyer stopped, and Malleus looked into the gloom of the burnt ruins.

“ … do you remember our promise?”

He had been coming here, once a fortnight, asking the same question and hoping for an answer. Every time all he ever received was the sound of rotting wood and the scampering of mice.

He took in a breath and was ready to leave, to go back to his duties, but he stopped.

“Why wouldn’t I?”

He couldn’t see you, but you were here. And that was all that mattered to Malleus. That although you may not physically be here anymore, he had not lost you.

Time may heal all wounds, but Malleus didn’t want this wound to heal. He didn’t want to lose you, not again.

Alright, clearly some of you guys are just not getting it. So no more emotion from me; I am simply going to write in factual terms.

It takes a VAST amount of work to go into creating a series like Bad Batch. You have to go through writing, scene painting, 3D modeling, rigging, lighting, SFX, voice lines, editing, final production, etc; just to name a few. It takes hours upon hours upon hours of work for those animators to create all of the nuances in a scene, let alone in Bad Batch where there is an extremely high level of attention to detail. It’s not like anime where a character and background are mostly stationary while they talk. There’s constantly stuff happening in the background and they intentionally make choices that provide extremely little to the overall story and, in all honesty, take up a significant amount of their time and can be argued that they’re wasting their time and money and effort (I don’t think so, but I’m sure people could argue it if they thought that effort should be allocated elsewhere). But they do it because it provides a deeper sense of realism to the story as a whole and make it feel like a living, breathing world. For example, when a character trips a little bit or they animated them doing something slightly harder than it would have been otherwise or eyes darting around and studying someone. These are all very little things that take them hundreds of hours to get perfect. And those are the kinds of things that go unnoticed by the vast majority of people watching the show. Either because they don’t noticed the little detail that was put in at all, or they don’t understand the level of work that goes into creating little minute decisions like that. And all of those decisions that they make, both big and tiny, are given to them in specific instructions by the directors. When you think about the insane amount of work that goes into creating a show like Bad Batch, you realize that every single little detail that they choose to add in is intentional and was given to them via specific instruction. It’s not like in live-action shows where the actor can choose to make a subtle decision on the fly. There are hundreds of thousands of hours of work that go into this and every choice that they make is intentional. The lighting dept. has even confirmed this for us, saying that all of the lighting that they did was done very carefully and intentionally and to pay attention to what’s happening in the scene. Because there’s an extremely high level of detail that’s put into the show, based off of very detailed instructions that were presented to them.

Now. Taken all of these points into account, it’s critical to look at all of the little choices that were made when it comes to her character and the way that both she interacts with the world and the people around her, as well as how they, in turn, respond to her. Because, like the lighting dept. has already made very clear to us, every design choice they has been made in the creation of the show is 100% intentional. Even if that’s not something that they had said or wasn’t something you were aware of, when you focus on the aspect of animation, it’s sometimes hard to get a clear grasp on just how long it takes them to do these things. And that every little choice that they made was carried out under specific instruction. And that’s not even getting into the nuances of voice acting and understanding the subtle distinctions in the way someone talks and being able to discern the meaning behind their words based on dialect and the instructions they were given. And for someone who just casually watches the show, absolutely none of these are important. They’re watching it to watch it and no further thought is put into it. And there’s nothing wrong with that. People are allowed to watch things at a surface level and get enjoyment out of it.

For every character, they can be broken up into various parts:

•Their visual appearance

•Their behavior

•Their interactions with others and the world

•How others respond to their character

•Their small, subtle behaviors (such as a particular twitch or repetitive body movement that can be used to convey a deeper meaning)

•And their internal motives

In that order from the least to most complex. And these topics can also be used to understand the complexity of a character. For someone like Cid, all of these topics are touched on in a variety of ways.

•She’s different from them

•She’s gruff and money hungry

•She speaks to the Batch like they’re a bunch of kids and she knows better than them

•They never fully bring themselves to trust her and, at times, they see her has a burden

•Towards the end of their time together, she gets snappier, and whenever she’s around them her movements slow ever so slightly and she furrows her brows slightly a lot more than in the past

•And in the end, she betrays them

And that’s putting her character into a single sentence for every bullet point, which, for well written characters like Cid or Hemlock or Rampart or Nala Se, cuts a lot of things out.

When it comes to the way that Phee is written and what she contributes as a whole to the show, she is not a very complex character. I’m not going to go into every single scene with her, but I am going to touch on a few. And if I need to continue the discussion further to cover more scenes, then I will. On multiple instances, she puts the Batch into very dangerous situations, and overall appears to care very little for them as people unless it gets her something that she wants. This is made very evident when, for example, she gets Omega, a child, excited about a big grand adventure and Omega then convinced the Batch to go along with it. Even though they were very adamant about not doing it. This is said with both their words and their tense body language. They don’t want Omega to get hurt and they know it’s a bad idea; but in the end she’s able to convince them. Then, when they get to the site, she shows clear lack for them or their safety and proceeds to put them in a very dangerous situation where someone could have gotten seriously hurt or killed. And she shows no remorse for it. Her language, both verbal and bodily, are very loose and nonchalant, assuring them that she had everything under control and that they were able to handle it, despite their very clear frustration. This type of behavior is shown again and again and again as they continue to interact with her. Her actions relay to the viewer that she does not respect their boundaries, or arguably, them as people. Her words are designed to be rocks with a pretty bow on them. And again, this is not personal opinion or speculation. Every single word and action was carefully designed by the team. All the tensed muscles were created by a team of people working very hard to convey that to the audience. Every thinly veiled word was guided by a director when the VA came in to record the sessions. Every single choice was intentional for a very specific reason.

Tech likes things in a very specific way. He likes his ship to be in a particular order and takes very good care of its maintenance and upkeep. He prides himself on being able to maintain a good ship. He spends a lot of time on his data pad. It’s how he was designed on Kamino. That’s his link to his role in the group. He can do everything he needs to from there and, in certain scenarios throughout the show, you can see it provides him with a sense of comfort and stability. You can see this, not only in his subtle body language, but also in his fairly obvious body language with how he hunches over it. It’s reminiscent of a child hunching over a toy to bring it closer to them and protect it. It comforts him. You can also see, when he interacts with the rest of the Batch, his aversion to touch. It’s not significantly often that you see it, given that the rest of the Batch knows him better than anyone, but there are still times when physical contact or even just very close proximity happens and he either has a reaction by tensing up slightly or leaning away from it, or sometimes he doesn’t react to it at all and almost seems to not register it; such as when he’s focused on his work. Every little reaction that he has with his brothers was scripted and orchestrated for a very specific purpose. It conveys the nuances of who he is as a unique and individual person.

Keeping that in mind, when it comes to the way she interacts with Tech specifically and the Batch, it’s very clear to understand the dynamic behind them when you look close enough. To recall a few instances, there was a time when she was recounting a story about finding a big treasure and Tech says something along the lines of “she changes this story every time she tells it”. He’s conveying to both the people in the show and us as viewers that she is a liar. She is either changing the story to make herself seem cooler, or maybe it didn’t happen at all and she’s making the entire thing up. Which, I will briefly mention again, are traits synonymous with narcissists. In another instance, Tech, Omega, and Wrecker were having a conversation where Tech is reprimanding them for bringing items back from a junkyard that they were in that they thought were cool instead of what he asked them to go find and bring back for him. I’m this conversation, Phee inserts herself and tells Tech that it’s not junk; also, in that same instance, not calling him by his name, which I will get to in a minute. Tech, in that moment, is trying to work, and his conversation with the other two was interrupted and fizzles out as Omega gets excited about the idea of a treasure map. A third is when the group is on Pabu and Phee is trying to get Tech to converse with her. His body language is hunched, tense, and he averts eye contact with her. When she prods him further, he is unsure how to engage in the conversation. And when he doesn’t respond in the way that she’s wanting him to, she talks about him to the rest of the Batch as he stands there around him and says to them how he “doesn’t know how to have fun”. And then they proceed to laugh at him. And again, you can see in his body language that he is confused as to why they’re laughing at him as well as uncomfortable being in that situation. And going off of that for another small fourth instance, there is another moment when they are getting ready to leave Pabu and she approaches Tech, who is working alone and trying to avoid contact with anyone, and says to him “So you’re just going to leave without saying goodbye?” His body language immediately tenses, he hunches further in on himself around his datapad, and his words make it clear he is both unsure and unwanting of the conversation. And when he does not respond in the way that she wants him to, she moves the datapad away from him to make him focus on her. She removes the item that brings him the most security to force him into engaging in a conversation he is uncomfortable with having. And again, these are all very intentional choices. They are not left up for interpretation. They are there to tell us what the character is feeling in that moment. They are trying to convey to us that he is uncomfortable. Not that he’s shy around a girl he thinks is pretty. And given on other scenarios that have happened throughout the show, it’s very clear that interpersonal relationships with anyone outside of Omega and the Batch is not something that he’s interested in. If they wanted to convey that he found her attractive, there are routes they could have taken to ensure that that comes across correctly to the audience, such as a faint little blush or rubbing a hand through his hair. But they didn’t do that, and instead chose for him to shy away and hide from certain situations or tense up and keep his head down in others. They are conveying to us that he does not like being around her. Because every single action they made him carry out took hundreds of hours of work to execute, and they would not go through all that trouble for no reason.

Branching off of that, we reach the topic of Tech’s name. When you watch the series as a whole, you can count on one hand the number of times that Phee refers to Tech by his actual name, while she refers to the others as their actual names. This is different from Cid in the way that Cid made that intentional choice to call them different things as a way to maintain distance from them. It’s clear from both her body language and her words that she did not want to get close to them. And really, wanted nothing to do with them unless they made her money. These are intentional choices. Phee’s character is designed to be flighty and unbothered. And she wants what she wants when she wants it. The choice to call Tech names and refer to everyone else by their names is an intentional choice. Him not understanding why she does that is an intentional choice. She does not respect him, which is why she does this. She can see that he doesn’t know what to do about it, so she keeps doing it. Like when a person presses on a bruise. These are all intentional choices made by the directors.

There was also a comment that said she behaves exactly like Crosshair does. And there are a few things I think did not entirely process when they made that comment. The first being that Crosshair was written to be one of the main antagonists for the first two season. I know they appeared in Clone Wars as well, but I’m talking specifically about Bad Batch. He was designed to be a bad guy that goes through a redemption arc; just like Zuko did in ATLA, for those who enjoy it. They both started out as antagonists, had horrible things happen to them, realized along their journey that maybe they were wrong, and are able to redeem themselves in the end and side with, or in Cross’ case, return to, the protagonists. In the beginning Cross was very sharp and defensive and thought he knew what was best. But he grew over time and learned how to care for people and share his weaknesses instead of putting on a facade all the time. And that’s the difference. We are reaching the end of the series and Phee has never had character growth to the level that Crosshair has and softens and opens up to the rest of the group. She hasn’t had any character growth at all. She is still the same exact person she was when we met her. There have been characters who have appeared for significantly less time that her, and if you pay attention to them, they have had significantly more growth than her as well.

The problem that I have begun to notice with people who are so quick to defend her actions is that they seem to be focusing more on her than on anything else. When you focus on just her, I can see how someone could mistake these interactions for being positive. Because all they’re focusing on is someone who’s having fun, and of course that would translate to something positive for him. But for the people who focus on Tech, it becomes very evident that these interactions are not positive. When you watch Tech, and I mean actually pay attention to him and not just watch him, you see all the subtle signs that you would otherwise miss. Him being annoyed and uncomfortable and confused and tired and generally not enjoying being around her. And this, unfortunately, happens a lot in real life too. People don’t take the time to absorb both sides of what’s happening. And since we as humans are quicker to pick up on people who are happy as opposed to people who are not, it’s so easy to miss the signals and just assume that what you’re watching is a happy interaction and put forth no further effort into making sure that’s actually what’s happening.

There is no other way to say that these things are all intentional. They wrote, designed, and sent out something that they have spent the past few years creating. When you understand the level of work that was put into it all, there are a lot of things that become very clear. And sure, headcanons exist and people can speculate what happens between the episodes. But headcanons can only go so far before it becomes ridiculous. We cannot confirm that Echo didn’t run off to go have a quiet life with Cid, but that doesn’t automatically mean that it’s true. Inferring things that are not within the realm of possibility is not conducive. Assuming that Phee spent a lot of time talking about her adventures that she may or may not have had with the Batch between the episodes? That’s conducive and we have clear evidence that would support that. Assuming that her and Tech had a very close relationship and she always listens to what he had to say between episodes? As much as some people want it to be true, it’s just not. There is no evidence that supports that line of thinking, and, in fact, there is a vast amount of evidence that would actually conform the opposite; such as Phee talking over everyone and commanding the conversation, not respecting things that Tech says, etc.

I’m going to wrap this up by talking a bit more personally now. There are plenty of people assuming that I’m a racist or a misogynist or that my literacy skills are lacking or whatever, but because you’re upset that someone is calling out the awful behavior of someone you like doesn’t make it any less true. And that applies to both this type of situation and in real life. I know who I am and what I stand for, and you trying to tell me that I’m otherwise changes nothing. And defaulting to assumptions like that shows that either you do not watch the show with a more attentive eye, or that’s all that you see Phee for. A black woman. Both of which are issues.

People are allowed to not like black characters, even if they are black.

People are allowed to not like Asian characters, even if they are Asian.

People are allowed to not like female characters, even if they’re women (or AFAB people).

People are allowed to not like LGBTQ characters, even if they are queer.

People are allowed to not like neurodivergent characters, even if they are neurodivergent.

People are allowed to not like characters that display particular traits or thought processes, even if they share those same traits or thought processes.

People are allowed to not like characters if they think that the character is bad.

Also, for the people saying I’m using my autism as a shield clearly don’t understand how autism works? I don’t say that to be an excuse. I say that to provide context and reasoning behind the things that I say. Like many other neurodivergent people do. You all are getting pressed about the wrong things. If you want to debate the time and study I’ve put into the show because I genuinely enjoy it, then be my guest. But don’t throw out petty insults and waste everyone’s time. At least put forth some more critical thinking behind it and try to figure out why someone could be saying the things that they’re saying

Sentimental | Yoon Jeonghan

Synopsis: Just a drabble of how Jeonghan's sentimental nature makes us all swoon. Jeonghan x gn! reader | fluff | 570 words | no warnings

Jeonghan is obsessed with the little things. I’m not just talking about his fascination and habit of playing with little objects. I’m talking about Jeonghan’s love for the little moments and objects that he holds dear to his heart. I mean, we’ve seen how he treasures even a small piece of lego given to him by a fan. His little “aigoo” was so endearing (and adorable). That’s why I think Jeonghan has a gentle and tender soul, one that allows him to have an extremely sentimental nature.

Moments and objects, no matter how seemingly irrelevant or unimportant to others, will be treasured by Jeonghan. In your relationship with Jeonghan, it’s a trait of his that you will come to realise and absolutely adore. It’s a trait that makes you fall in love with him more and more everyday.

When you first meet Jeonghan and get to know him, whether as a friend or as a partner, you will notice the way he talks about moments that happened in his life. Obviously, you get sucked into his stories because Jeonghan is such a great storyteller. He tells you what happens, giving you just enough detail to help you understand without over complicating the story. He’s told you all sorts of stories, be it exciting ones about his trainee days, his days as an idol, or even the most mundane stories about eating bibimbap or going to the grocery store. Regardless of what the story is, they all sound like exciting adventures.

As time goes on, you realise that he’s such a great storyteller because of all the emotions he puts into it. He associates all these moments with a whole complex mix of emotions, be it sadness, pain, worry, hope, happiness, fondness, love. Fondness and love. The two emotions that are the most distinct when Jeonghan is talking/ reminiscing about his memories of moments spent with you. It becomes increasingly clear that he values each and every moment that he is able to spend with you.

Jeonghan’s way of remembering and treasuring these moments are not just confined to him recounting them. He keeps the objects associated with them as well. I guess, you could say that at this point in your relationship, you literally have a gallery full of objects that literally chart the whole history of your relationship. Each object holds the stories and memories that he made with you.

The objects seem random, and you sometimes question why he keeps some of them (they’re old and really you think they might be decomposing), but Jeonghan simply asserts that they are his precious treasures. Small objects include the faded receipts from your first date, a small bottle of sand from your first time at the beach together, a half used bottle of soap from the hotel that you stayed at during your first trip. Other larger objects include a bunny toy you won for him at the fair, your first set of couple rings. Jeonghan even keeps the random little sticky notes you’ve written for him over the years.

All the memories that come with these objects, all the moments you’ve spent together, nothing is too small or insignificant for Jeonghan to remember and treasure. They are all important to him, just like you. Jeonghan might be a millionaire, but it’s his sentimental nature and ability to value all the little things that makes him rich. And if the velvet box hidden (poorly) at the back of his drawer is any indication, he definitely thinks so too.

Thoughts on giving critiques to comics artists.

Seeing lots of discussion from students about sour experiences with an unhelpful art teacher, so here's a long, long post about giving critiques.

NB: I have no formal training as a teacher, but I was a student, and I've spent decades giving artists feedback on their work.

When someone brings me a portfolio, I like to establish my limitations & clarify my perspective. My work is firmly rooted in traditional US comics storytelling (i.e., not manga or art-comics.) I can give feedback on other approaches but they should know where I’m coming from.

“We've only got a little time for this, so I'm going to spend that time focusing on things to correct. That doesn't mean you're doing everything wrong, or that there’s nothing good here, but it’ll be more helpful if I identify some problems and show you how to fix them.”

Why? Because for many young artists their entire sense of self worth is wrapped up in being good at what they do. (It was for me!) In school they were probably the best artist in their peer group. But now if they're hoping to turn pro, they’re at the bottom.

Sometimes you know what’s up when you see page 1, but try to keep an open mind. Some build their portfolios by sticking new pages at the back & don’t weed out the old stuff up front, so the work gets better as you go. When it’s like that I ask: “Show me your best 8 pages.”

I ask questions: "What's the goal? Do you want to be hired to work on someone else's project, or to get the story you're showing me here published?"

If 1, I steer towards a portfolio that'll showcase hirable skills. If 2, I look for what tweaks will make that particular story more effective.

"Do you have teachers giving you regular feedback? What are they telling you?" Sometimes a student is getting bad advice. In cases like that, I'll do my best to be extra clear WHY I'm giving them advice that's 180 degrees from what they've been hearing.

“What artists are you looking at? Is there someone you admire or try to emulate?” This often helps me understand choices they're making, and I can sometimes incorporate things those artists do into my suggestions.

I ask myself questions about what I’m seeing. First: Is there a narrative? If not, I make it 100% clear I'm not speaking as any sort of expert. I'm good at critiquing storytelling, but don't have anywhere near as much to offer illustrators or designers.

Can I follow the story? Or am I confused about what's going on? Are the characters and settings drawn consistently? If not, is the artist at least making use of tags (distinctive clothing, hair etc.) to keep the characters recognizable?

Does the artist demonstrate a good command of basic academic drawing? If not, Do I think they need it? Do I focus on "how to draw" or on "what to do when you can't draw?" Is the artist putting the viewer’s eye where it needs to be to tell the story effectively?

(At this point I’m usually doing little doodles to go with my instructions. I scribble out ugly little 5 second diagrams that I hope will clarify what I’m talking about. Or they might make me seem demented. Hard to say!)

Is the artist making choices that are creating more work than necessary? Is there a particular weakness? I once spoke to an artist with a portfolio full of great work when he was drawing animals and monsters, but his humans were amateurish in comparison. I spent that critique talking about drawing people.

A crit can be a grab bag. In addition to big-picture advice, I'll point out tangencies, violations of the 180-degree rule, wonky anatomy, weird perspective, places where the artist neglected to do important research, odd choices in how they spotted black, whatever catches my eye.

I also try to make a point of defining the terms, so that jargon like “tangency,” “180-degree rule,” and “spotting black” don't go over their heads. Find simple, concrete ways to talk about these things, & clarify why it's a problem when they aren't done correctly. Draw diagrams!

Recognize that even a perfectly phrased explanation might not sink in. Some lessons can only be learned when a student is ready, and it might take a year or two of work before they can understand what you were saying. It's good to plant seeds.

Are there other artists who are particularly good at solving the problems the student is trying to solve? I steer them towards that artist's work. And I always recommend life drawing & the use of reference to give work variety and authority.

Despite what I said earlier about focusing on what's wrong, I try at the end to find something encouraging to say. And if I’ve really piled on the criticism, I emphasize that I only spent the time and energy to do so because I take their efforts seriously.

If I've done my job right, they'll leave my table with tools to make their work better. And maybe in a few years they'll be looking at some younger artist's work, surprised to discover just how much you can learn when you're asked to teach.

The Arcana HCs: M6 with an asexual MC

~ this is by no means my personal experience, but after several requests and some wonderful people helping me research, here we are! Hope you enjoy :) - brainrot ~

NOTE: being asexual and being aromantic are two distinct experiences. these headcanons are for an asexual MC, if I write for an aromantic MC, that will be in its own post so it's properly covered ^.^

Julian

This reflects on his own unfortunate dating history, but he's really not used to starting romantic relationships off of something that doesn't involve a physical connection. He's a little confused

He's not stupid, he can tell you two have something special going on, but you don't seem especially interested in taking things to the bedroom and he's not sure what to make of it

Do you just find him physically repulsive, but mentally stimulating? Is it the eyepatch? Because he can lose the eyepatch -

Genuinely relieved once you explain, because it lets him know what your boundaries are and how best he can work towards something real with you without pushing you into something you don't want

If you enjoy steamier things when it's part of you two connecting and expressing your feelings, he's still quick to initiate

He's very understanding when you're not in the mood or up for anything steamy, but it's equally important to him to hear that you still want to spend time loving him, even if it's not in that way

If you don't want to do anything steamy at all, he'll want you to give him clear boundaries so he doesn't accidentally overstep

In the end, his relationship with you is based on your mutual commitment to taking care of each other. That's not changing

Asra

This is ... complicated for them

Don't get him wrong. He loves you, completely and unconditionally, and he would never, ever want you to feel forced. He's just happy he gets a second shot at life with you

At the same time, they have the easiest time expressing their love for you through their physicality

He says "I love you" out loud maybe once a fortnight - but he says it a thousand times daily with gentle touches, kisses brushed to your neck in passing, and casually intimate moments

So realizing as they cared for you that you had no interest in the ultimate physical act of love required a bit of a mental reset

Honestly, he's scared of not being able to love you the way you deserve, and of not feeling loved in return (he'll find it's not true)

If you enjoy steamier things as part of an emotional connection, they are all on board. They're always clear about being open to fun times, but they'll leave it to you to actually initiate stuff

If you don't want to do anything of that nature, he'll avoid the conversation at first but ultimately want to talk to you about what physical affection you are open to. Kisses? Cuddles? Handholding?

Their joy is in your joy. If they can feel you breathing, they're happy

Nadia

Oh. Oh dear, she's gone about wooing you quite the wrong way

Her first instinct on hearing your explanation is to apologize. Her approach to courtship tends to be very sensual, and the thought of you not enjoying such things didn't cross her mind

She's going to want to clear a few things up, too - she knows she took a steamy approach, but she genuinely enjoys you for who you are, regardless of what you are or aren't open to

That said, please sit down and talk to her right away about what your boundaries, preferences, and comfort zones are, because she doesn't want to take any chances on miscommunication

Thankfully, spoiling you doesn't require any physical contact at all

If you're open to fun times as part of a special connection, she's very careful to establish a balanced power dynamic in that area. (Unless you'd still like her to take control :P)

She'll initiate sometimes, but it's always preceded with her asking what mood you're in and if you're in the headspace for it

If you'd rather keep things completely innocent, she'll want detailed boundaries for what physical affection is and isn't okay

She doesn't love you for your body. She loves you for your strength, and your faith in her. Give her that, and she'll give you everything

Okay. Sounds good

This is accompanied with a heavy blush because it means you're referencing *adult* things, but he's really not that bothered

If he has any relational issues with it, it would only be after you've been together long enough that he would feel comfortable sharing his body with you if it were an option

Then he might take it into his head that this is your way of saying you don't trust him not to hurt you, or that you find his scars ugly

Obviously, this is not true, and all it takes to prove otherwise is not wincing when you see him or shying away when he gets close

If you enjoy less innocent things when it's a way of being close and enjoying each other, then he's down for that too. He doesn't really get "in the mood" unless you put him in the mood, so there's that

There might be a lot of missed opportunities until one or both of you learns to initiate without worrying about pressuring each other

If you don't like steamy things at all, cool. He likes how relatively uncomplicated that makes the physical side of your relationship, especially when he's still got a complicated view of his body

He's learning to love gentle, safe touch, though, so if things like cuddles and cheek kisses are your jam, then please. Have at it

Portia

Huh. She's pretty sure she's heard of this before, but she's never navigated a relationship where that was something to keep in mind. Tell her more!

She feels the most free to discuss it casually/joke around about it. Gets completely into the garlic bread stereotype and will laughingly bake you some if it's something you like eating

If anything, learning about this makes her feel even more secure in her relationship with you. It tells her all over again that you chose her for who she is, and not some other motivation

That said, she does have needs of her own, and feels just as free talking to you about how she goes about satisfying them solo as long as that's not something you're disgusted hearing about

If you enjoy steamy things with her as part of your connection, she'll go out of her way to really emphasize what the act means with you instead of getting lost in the moment

She'll bring it up fairly often, usually as part of a list of options to do together: do you want normal cuddles, or special cuddles?

If it's something you don't want anything to do with, she's likely to ask you lots of questions about it simply because she's a curious person. You're her partner in crime! That's all that really matters

Lucio

He's about as confused by someone who wants a relationship without adult special fun time as he is confused by people who like to listen to music without dancing along

Don't you feel like you're missing out? Isn't that the whole point of being in a relationship with someone? (spoiler alert: it's not. that's the trauma and lack of self awareness talking)

When he first learns this about you as he gets to know you, he ends up assuming it means that you just don't do romance at all

And then, as his own feelings for you grow and he learns what it means to trust someone enough to be vulnerable around them, he comes to realize that relationships can be so much more than that

If you enjoy adult stuff when it's part of a bigger context, he ends up having to learn how to engage in intimacy that isn't just a greedy scramble to satisfy physical desires

You have a standing invitation to his body, and he'll bring it up frequently, but he finds way more satisfaction in the quiet security of being held by someone he loves, who loves him back

If you're not into it at all, he'll need a solid explanation of what's on and off the table and why before he learns what to and not to initiate. He wants to love you and be loved. That's all

“unreliably speaking” is coined by & for & popularized by nonspeaking (autistic) people with apraxia of speech and/or full body apraxia to describe a very specific experience. *see note at the end

it’s coined to describe the apraxic experience of brain body disconnect. it’s like your body have a mind of its own. someone with unreliable speech will be able to verbally speak (technically) but the words dont always match what they want to and meant to say. some unreliably speaking people may even have a lot of speech! but they often don’t mean to say some or many of the words.

unreliably speaking people either don’t have at all or struggle with having functional communication through their mouth. (because of that, some unreliably speaking people [ those whose everything or almost everything they say they don’t mean] do also call themselves nonspeaking because they don’t have functional verbal/mouth communication.)

an simpler example of this is when asked “is the sky blue,” an apraxic unreliably speaking person may answer “no” when they mean “yes.” but the unreliably spoken words can be more complex than that, like phrases and even sentences.

however, unreliably speaking does not mean you can speak sometimes but can’t the other, or you don’t know when you’ll have speech because sometimes you lose it.

the word you’re looking for is intermittent speech, or intermittently speaking. “losing speech” is more common.

i’ve seen people make this mistake a lot, some by both verbal & nonverbal/nonspeaking people. sometimes people use it by mistake when they’re trying to avoid another mistake (the mistake is using “nonverbal”/“going nonverbal” to mean losing speech). i try to assume good faith because of that since it’s clear they’re listening to nonverbal nonspeaking people.

“definitions change 🙃” this is an important distinction because misusing terms leads to misunderstanding and harm people with actual unreliable speech. it puts more work on the apraxic unreliably speaking person having to explain over and over again. it’s important for unreliably speaking people to have a word of their own that precisely describe their experience without other external people without similar experience diluting or changing the definition.

*the link cited heavily bashes the term nonverbal but i want to emphasize that some people who do not speak do prefer nonverbal. it’s up to individual who don’t speak’s preference.

-> Hello. I'm Pansear. I have done stupid shit but also cool shit, and stupid cool shit. My stupid shit don't mean I'm being malicious- I think most of the time I was just silly or very emotional about it. I really like to draw, play specific video games, and enjoy animated content like movies and cartoons. I think animals are cool, plants are cool, sharks and aquatic creatures are cool, and for some reason I really like vending machines (I think they are exciting). I like to make food and eat them, and even draw them. I like video game music and music with guitars and bass in them. I really like plushies and collect those of my favorite characters.

-> Oh and speaking of Favorite characters... They're my blorbos alright and sometimes I accidentally project onto them. These blorbos include: Werewolf Cookie (Cookie Run), Legoshi (Beastars; look I even share birthdays with him!), Nick Wilde (Zootopia), Plague Knight (Shovel Knight), Artificer and Hunter (Rain World), Ichimatsu Matsuno (Osomatsu-san), Foxy the Pirate (FNAF), Pinkie Pie (MLP), Spamton (Deltarune), and a bunch of goth/edgy backstory and generally edgy/tired old men from Pokemon like Nanu and Larry. I could go on more but just know that if the character looks like they deserve some sort of hug, 90% of the time they're likely my most favorite character.

-> A troubled person trying to get by in college. Currently seeking therapy and found support with many lovely individuals (my friends!) and making some form of progress to fix myself. My primary form of coping is drawing and making stories where the characters fight similar struggles as mine (They are essentially my Earthbound Flying Men). This is one of the reasons why I make a lot of art and draw fast- It is not to chug out content- I just draw fast and a lot. Well... I used to draw fast, but with the advice of many, I'm taking it easy.

-> I also like to play video games and listen to music repeatedly until I get bored to help cheer me up. I do not want to go into detail about my trauma and its details and progression shouldn't be everyone's priority to know. I'm here in the internet to have fun and maybe earn incentives along the way, and whenever I get tired, I dock out until I feel better.

-> I'm not looking for attention, especially those that spout negativity. Let me know of anything that concerns you and don't be afraid to be honest. I don't want to hurt people, but I will bite if prompted or cornered. I apologize if my episodes do leak out and cause worries, and I apologize that I may go on manic, narcissistic and overzealous tangents at times. SO! You've seen these little things I do sometimes and you want to know the process!

It's genuinely super simple, so here goes! Apologies by the way if anything is unclear or glossed over. A lot of this is personal taste and such so I hope this can be a nice boost to create something!

RESOURCES AND THINGS TO KNOW!

To preface this little guide already assumes you have basic knowledge of color distribution, lineless art, or breaking up art into proper layers for later processing! I am also assuming that your art program has access to scatter brushes and tiling textures. Personally I use Clip Studio Paint, but this can work on other apps. Anyways, here are some good sites for this:

EZGIF - Free, easy gif maker for assembling any kind of gif*! It also has stuff like converting those damn WEBP's back into png.

*PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU CANNOT MAKE GIFS THAT ARE PARTIALLY TRANSPARENT. YOU MUST USE A SOLID COLOR UNDER ANY PART THAT IS OVER BARE CANVAS

Transparent Textures - Free to use source for HQ transparent textures that tile! Amazing for finding a paper texture for these if you commit to the paper doll look. Best results for textures that are in white or black!

So! You have a finished, prepared piece that you want to glitterfy. Well I'm not covering that right now so you can scroll down to That part if you came just for the glitter. This next section is for...

PREPARING THE PAPER DOLL

To start, your piece should already be separated into respective layers in any order you'd like! We're about to use a ton of clipping masks so Make sure you know your program before starting! So, as my example we have my oc Roy, resized to around... 1500x1500 or the nearest equivalent Smaller is better because it brings out the texture! He looks a little ah...Flat, though right now?

I'm using this guy for a couple different reasons! Those being:

Roy has translucent bodyparts! Just so you will know what to do with characters who are translucent! I'll get to this in a moment so sit tight

He has a clear, defined, and distinct palette that is easy to pick a color to slap the glitter on! This is important because I personally find balance to be the most appealing part of the finished art.

He also just has a lot of doohickeys on his design.

This is where you need your transparent texture! You can use any kind of texture and I encourage experimentation and such, but I personally use a simple paper texture. What we are going to do is go through and clip our imported and tiled texture to each applicable layer! (Make sure to just Copy and Paste the layer you do NOT need to repeatedly go through this menu...)

And... When you are done, you should have something like this:

"But why don't I just clip the texture to the entire piece through a folder? Why go through the hassle of clipping to each individual layer?"

Well that's because of the next step, where we will be adding the shadows. If we don't clip each individual layer, your shadows will look like this example on the left which sort of just ruins the 3D effect and kinda just looks icky, as opposed to this, which is nicer and smoother.

Now I'm no lighting wiz! In fact I'm rather mediocre at best but some general tips for adding the shadows:

Try to keep your shadows going all in one direction mostly! It gives the effect of one light source and generally just looks better than if you shaded around ALL edges everywhere.

Try to only shade where there are parts overlapping that need the dimension! Overdoing it can make the piece look odd. It's especially helpful to separate any details like different shades of hair, layers of hair, etc so that you can put as much volume as you want.

Once the shadows are all added in you should have something that looks like this:

Which looks good! Now I'd sometimes stop here if I can't pinpoint how I'd like the glitter to sit or if I think the piece just doesn't need it, but we're moving on to the big important steps!

ADDING GLITTER

This part is entirely up to your taste! But I'll describe how I do my glitter stuff. Firstly I start out by identifying which color I want to pop out. For Roy here I chose the red parts! For your character it may be different. Experimentation is key!

This is also, however where you need that scatter brush I mentioned earlier. Personally I just use the default CSP spray brush, but again go wild!

Make a folder above your piece, set its blending mode to glow dodge (or add, or add glow depending on what options you have), and create three layers inside of this folder. Setting the folder to clip is optional right now but will be needed later.

Then, fill each glitter layer with your choice of particle in whatever color looks good! Yes, you can do gradients and other stuff on the particles too! World's your oyster.

Glitter tips for the early 2000's webcore enthusiast:

Use different strokes and patterns for the glitter distribution! This helps it animate better by moving around. For example this time I went diagonally for the first, horizontally for the second, and then in loose circles for the third. Particle density and stuff is also completely up to you.

Use a color that would pop against the intended area! For Roy I used an orange-ish yellow since it compliments both blue and red.

So now we have the layers! This is where clipping is our best friend once again! You're just going to go in and clip the glitter to whatever layers you want it on. Entire folder, not just one of the layers!

Once that's all done, go through and toggle the respective glitter layer for the frame, saving individual copies when done. You should end up with 3 identical images with different glitter distribution.

"BUT WAIT! JONES, THE TRANSLUCENCY!!" I hear you call! Yes, this is where we handle that! If your character is NOT translucent, you can scroll past this section.

Open up your frames all in one canvas, stacked on top of eachother (no jittering or slight displacement! ON TOP of eachother!)

Our layout should look something like this...Note how the translucent parts are rather hard to see, well if you took your frames and put them in EZgif, they'd be gone entirely! That's because you physically cannot have a partially translucent gif due to technology limitations. So an easy little cleanup thing I did was:

1. SELECT THE CANVAS AROUND THE CHARACTER WITH THE MAGIC WAND TOOL. Do not have any expansion settings on or it probably won't look right in the end.

Make sure you do not miss any gaps! I personally missed the gap between the arm, leg, and lanyard and I had to redo this next step...

2. SELECT -> INVERT SELECTION

3. FILL SELECTION WITH THE DESIRED COLOR. IT MUST BE OPAQUE. I personally picked this cloudy gray color.

You can now save individual frames of your character with the fill so that they don't go bald when you move on to the next step! Again, you should have 3 frames.

FINISHING UP

This is nice and easy. Upload your three frames into EZGIF and wait for it to process. It'll look like this if you're in the right place.

Once things have loaded, make sure to change the settings to the following:

FRAME DELAY: 0 (this is how fast the frames move.)

DON'T STACK FRAMES: ENABLED

You can play around with this but I generally leave everything else alone because you don't need it. Just hit the make a gif button and you're all done!

Aaaand that's it! If you've read this far...Firstly thank you for dealing with my rambliness and horrible explanation skills. Secondly, I hope that this can come in handy for anyone interested! Would love to see if anyone puts this to use. n_n

Ayase had always been quiet and reserved.

His sister had looked at him, and her gaze had been detached, empty. Ayato hadn’t recognized it at the time, but it had sent a distinct chill down his back nonetheless.

… Things change, as the seasons pass. Ayato persists in visiting his sister as often as he can, and eventually Ayase loses the distant look in her eyes. One day, Ayase stands up and starts walking around the house like a perfectly normal person, as if she hadn’t been bedridden for years–

Their mother had burst into tears that day, clutching at Ayase. Ayase had looked at her with a faintly befuddled look, as if she didn’t understand what was happening. Then, slowly reached out to return their mother’s warm embrace.

Ayaka doesn’t remember a period of time when her sister was a distant, detached figure in their family. But Ayato does. So when a glimmer of that same something returns to her eyes as she stands before the downed form of their uncle, blade raised high in her hand–

She’ll really do it, Ayato realizes, before anyone else in the room catches on to what’s about to happen. Their uncle is still seething, too focused on his own anger and humiliation at his defeat to notice anything amiss. The onlookers are still stunned by Ayase’s victory, the unexpected triumph of a delicate seventeen year old girl over her uncle more than two decades her senior in a trial by combat. None of them see it–!

Which is why it falls to Ayato to do something, here and now before Ayase kills their uncle in cold blood front of the entire Kamisato Clan. Ayato shoots to his feet before he even realizes it, his body moving instinctively before his mind catches up with his body.

“Sister!”

Ayase tilts her head, a clear indication that she’s listening to him despite the fact that she hasn’t turned to look at him.

Good.

“Sister,” Ayato continues, more calmly now that he knows he has her attention. “Our uncle challenged your right to headship of the clan in a trial by combat, and lost. You’ve proven your strength.”

An overwhelming victory. So you don’t need to kill him.

“It’s not enough,” his sister says. Ayase’s voice is calm, indifferent.

… Ayato needs to change her mind. Because their uncle might be an opportunistic schemer, but he still plays an important role in the Kamisato Clan. And right now, with the death of their parents and the pressure that their clan is facing from external forces, they really don’t need to add internal issues to the situation. Such issues would most definitely arise, if Ayase killed their uncle.

“But it will suffice,” Ayato tells her. Then, “Please.”

Please listen to me.

You are head of the Kamisato Clan, now. Ayase, please…

For a moment, his sister is silent.

Then, she lifts her blade from where it’s pointed at their uncle, and finally turns away. But their uncle takes this as opportunity, his hands closing around his own sword as he raises it and lunges at her back–!

“Sister!”

A deafening thunderclap resounds through the room, like a lightning strike –no, there is lightning. Coils of electric energy dance over the wooden flooring in wild, erratic arcs, and Ayato forces himself to look despite the blinding light, heart heavy in his throat–

Their uncle lies on the ground in eight different pieces, and Ayase’s sword is red with blood. Lightning crackles around his sister, and there is a glowing purple orb that floats atop her hand.

Let’s get one thing clear, Armin is a scorpio (!!!A WATER SIGN!!!). He needs to have you all to himself like he has to be your priority……

Armin is highly sensitive when it comes to his emotions and will get jealous very easily. He won’t show how he is feeling or act on it right away since he does have a level head on his shoulders but, he’ll 100% be feeling it.

He can get jealous of anyone and everyone, he hates the idea of anyone but him being close to you. In a normal way (and possessive fun way heheh), Armin is very protective and will always have a watchful eye on you. It doesn’t matter if he is in a conversation with someone else or he’s working on something important, if you’re near him then he will immediately be distracted. Little glances will be thrown your way while he writes in his notebook or he might just move to sit next to you entirely.

In the heat of the moment (when he is feeling his jealousy at its worst), he’ll act calm and unbothered but that can’t be further from the truth!!! Deep down, he’s fucking furious ((not at you -obvi- but the person approaching you)). In almost little time at all, he’ll find a way to remove you from whatever situation you’re in.

Armin would even get jealous of Mikasa or Eren, not in a romantic way but in a you’re spending way too much time with your friends and he needs your attention way! He gets jealous soooooo easily and will turn into a big pouty mess because of it. Like yeah, he’s so fucking pissed that he’ll also need tons of affection fron you to soothe the ache he’s feeling kekekeke

On the other handddddd,,, when you get jealous,, Armin gets really nervous…. and anxious?

Like he wants nothing more than to fix the reason why you are feeling jealous. He’d hate to know that he made you feel that way,,,,

If it’s someone giving him too much attention, he puts a proper amount of distance between him and them. If his work has taken too much time away from you, he’ll set distinct time slots where he will spend with you.

Armin is very sweet, a gentle boyfriend so he’ll be sure to make it up to you whenever you get all green and filled with envy!!

But also,,,,, there’s a part inside of him that swells up with pride at how possessive you are over him heheheh Scorpios love loyal s/os!!!!

Connie Springer

Connie,,,, fav bald-headed dumbass, is a male Taurus (and coming from one taurus, a male taurus is the reddest of flags that there is). He’s very stubborn and very perceptive about how he is feeling as soon as he feels it. Connie might pretend to laugh something off or act as if he doesn’t care about it but, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

He doesn’t allow himself to get jealous. It’s almost like in his own stubbornness, he will push his feelings down because then he thinks he won’t have to deal with them. That method never works and he’s usually left with his stupid frustrations and sometimes gives you the cold shoulder while trying to figure out what to do with them.

It’s like.. Connie is very clingy (not in a negative way!), and he enjoys being around you and hanging out with you. The two of you are always doing chores together and enjoying each other’s company. However, there will be a point when you start to recognize his clinginess as a sign of his jealousy. This can be seen when he doesn’t part from you ever even when you two have two different things that you each need to be doing. The moment he pulls away from this clinginess is when you have a problem!

As soon as the clingiest ends then comes the ignoring!!! It can be extremely difficult to deal with a petty!Connie but, as long as you keep a clear head and calmly ask him what is wrong and get to the bottom of his hurt feelings then it ends quickly.

It’s best to get this feeling of anger out of the way quickly because when taurus become hurt, they will always remember that pain!

Okay…. But when you get jealous, Connie thinks it is the funniest thing in the world. Not because you are upset or uncomfortable but because he can’t understand why you are feeling jealous, like, does he not prove time and time again his unconditional love for you?

He always spends his free time with you and makes sure to keep your needs and desires first in his mind. Your jealousy truly comes as a shock to him and, he might just laugh when you let him know how you feel.

Howeverrrrr, he will very quickly apologize and make you feel better when he finds out how hurt you’ve been feeling. Taurus are very attentive and when a male taurus cares, he will make sure that you feel you’re very best.

Despite being a red flag, Connie is the greenest red flag ive ever seen!

Eren Jaeger

Oh…. Eren….. He’s fucking crazy. This man is literally a male Aries like…… be careful. Despite being driven and courageous, he’s also extremely desperate and lashes out when pushed to the edge. It’s very easy to tell when he is jealous since it happens so often.

His type of jealousy is one that needs to be matched with patience. You have such a strong hold over him, unmatchable power, that he can’t fight no matter how hard he tries. He can’t help but want to make sure he’s the only significant factor in your life and he will monopolize all your time to ensure this (what a possessive thing).

Howeverrrrrr don’t worryyyy, it is a good thing that Eren gets jealous because that means he really loves youuuuu~ And his intentions are relatively pure, okay?

There are times when he can be nonchalant, when Eren can swallow his bitter jealousy and just ignore you until it goes away. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t go away. If you get upset with him over this petty conflict, he’ll quickly come to his senses and beg for your forgiveness and attention. It’s like he’s all tough until he realizes that he’s made you upset LOL

Eren can be very sweet and genuine, you’ll never have to guess with him since he can be so easy to read (as long as you know him well), and he’ll always fiercely protect you no matter what. It’ll be easy to rest knowing you’re his first priority.

UGH, but the other way around though…. When you get jealous, it sends his pride and ego through the roof like he will get so cocky and hideous (so hot) about it.

Yes, it makes him feel good knowing that you’re getting protective of him and he finds it hot. Eren is a relatively simple creature, what can I say?

He’ll make sure to ease your jealousy, after he’s gotten a proper amount of it, and he doesn’t half-ass this either!!! In his own way, he’ll tease you and poke you just enough that you get mad but nothing too extreme. The second he notices that you’re starting to feel uncomfortable, he stops and grabs you in his arms.

Your jealousy made him feel good and now, in return, he’s going to kiss your ass (literally).

If you ever feel like shit from getting jealous, just know that feeling won’t last long because Eren will most definitely make it up to you.

Jean Kirstein

Jean is much like Eren, given that they’re both Aries. He’s hardworking and extremely caring but, also short-tempered. Fighting with someone explosive and stubborn like Jean is like lighting a match in the middle of an oil spill,, everything will go to shit quickly. It’s not like he wants to lash out at you or fight with you (because really, it’s the last thing he wants) but jealousy is such a wretched feeling and Jean has a very hard time controlling it.

Yes, he gets jealous very easily and it is also very easy to tell when he is jealous. Jean gets loud and expressive, making sure that his voice booms so that you can hear him. If your attention isn’t on him then he will very quickly make it so that it is.

Jean naturally gets jealous of anything but, can you blame him? He’s dramatic, he wants to be the center of your world! He will not stand another person giving you attention, it just rubs him the wrong way. Still, most of the time, Jean can ignore his jealousy and subdue it just long enough to get himself away from whoever is pissing him off.

It’s very easy to combat his jealousy, just as easy as it is for him to get jealous. Just give the fire sign attention, that’s it. A little extra affection always does the trick hehe.

If you just stroke his arm and play with his hair for half of a second, Jean is instantly recovered and puffing his chest in the air like he wasn’t even jealous before. He’s a sweet thing, really,,,,

Oh… when you get jealous, it’s kind of a problem. Aries men are creatures of habit, they can do one thing or another while you can’t do either of the things….

If you’re jealous about something, there’s a good chance that Jean (if he’s swept up in the attention enough) won’t notice. You’ll have to confront him with your feelings and even then, he might just brush you off.

Only if he can really see the hurt on your face or just how insecure you are feeling (which he can do easily since he kisses the ground you walk on) then he will stop exactly what he is doing.

Like if he’s surrounded by cadets all gushing over him, he’s going to have a hard time pushing them away BUT, if he knows you are feeling jealous then he will shove them away with ease.

At the end of the day, your happiness is most important to him!! Always!

Reiner Braun

Reiner…. My sweet psychopath…. Is a Leo male, do I need to say anything more about this? (no? I don’t think I do?)

His jealousy can be a bit tedious since he tries his hardest to submerge the feeling but ends up getting choked by it. He doesn’t mean to, but, he might take the frustrations from his jealousy out on you. Not in any harsh way but, he might just ignore you and push you away just to make you push him back and fight him to prove how much you care about him…. Reiner is difficult, we all know this.

Given, not just his sign, but his entire history and background, it is no surprise that Reiner is so protective of you. He cherishes you and loves you incredibly hard.

He might not be the easiest to read but when he gets jealous it’s kinda in your face... He’ll hover around you, mildly snooping, as he asks you questions about what you’re doing or who you’re going to be with. Oh! You’re on the phone? Who are you talking to? Why do you have to talk to Eren? Reiner does this in such a smooth way that it comes across as him being curious (which he is) but, you can also see the twitch in his fingers at someone else having your attention.

Luckily, his open wounds are easy to fix. A little reassurance goes a long way and can prevent a really big explosion of emotions. Stroke his ego a bit (and other places if you’d like) and let him know how much you adore him and love him,,,, Reiner really needs it-

Unlike the rest of these fools, despite being a fire sign, I can’t see Reiner entertaining your jealousy. If this man knows you are feeling upset and insecure, he will fix this the second he realizes it.

Any doubt that you have, any fear lingering in your mind, will be squashed by his love and affection. There’s literally nothing Reiner can’t talk you out of, he always makes you feel content in your relationships.

His favorite thing is to just hold you. When his words don’t work, he will always rely on his touch to make you melt into his arms. He’s so sweet when he’s not trying to k!ll everyone, ugh-

You’ll rarely get jealous with Reiner because he doesn’t ever do anything to make you jealous. He’ll never test your feelings or get too close to another person because you’re the only one for him.

Hellbound Hostel Lore: Denizens of Hell

The circles of hell are host to several varieties of devils and demons along with fallen angels and unfortunate damned souls. To a novice, these different hellish inhabitants can blend together, but an experienced eye can discern between Hellbound and Hellborn with relative accuracy. (This is a very surface level layout of the basics for people living in hell, it isn't the most interesting on its own... but it sets up some important ground rules for the story!)

Hellbound

A.K.A. Damned souls, Sinners, Ex-Mortals

Possess souls

Immortal as long as their soul is intact

Don’t have innate magic

Can have supernatural abilities related to their form

Cannot traverse between circles without help

The souls of the damned are called Hellbound, as they are bound to hell, completely unable to leave. They are sometimes called sinners, however not all of them are at the same level of depravity, and others don’t seem to be rotten at all. The denizens of hell don’t know the exact criteria that results in someone being sent to hell, and the people in hell are so dissimilar it is hard to make sweeping conclusions.

The appearance of a Hellbound soul is influenced by many factors such as how the soul died, which circle they were sent to, what sins they committed in life, and a soul’s own subconscious preferences. Hellbound will always be humanoid, though they might be able to transform into non humanoid forms. Some forms have supernatural abilities like flight, transformation, or the ability to teleport. These abilities are considered mundane and non magical in hell.

Hellbound are distinguished from Hellborn primarily by their possession of a soul. Souls are a valuable currency in hell and powerful Hellborn can always use more of them. Hellbound may enter contracts with devils by bargaining their soul in exchange for numerous things. Depending on the contract, this soul debt may be paid off through service over time, their soul may be taken after a number of years, or another condition agreed upon by both parties. Any Hellborn can tell if a Hellbound still has their soul free by placing a hand on the Hellbound’s chest.

The only way to kill a Hellbound permanently is through destroying their soul. This can only be done through magic. A Hellbound that is killed temporarily reappears in their original circle anywhere from a few days to a week after their initial death.

Hellbound are somewhat bound to the circle they are sent to upon reaching hell. They may only leave if they get the assistance of a Hellborn. Luckily there are many that are willing to assist sinners for a price. There is no way for a Hellbound to leave hell.

Hellborn

A.K.A. Demons, Devils, The Fallen

Do not have souls

Immortal-ish

Have access to innate infernal magic

Can have supernatural abilities related to their form

Can traverse between circles

Hellborn refers to any creatures created in hell, they need not be humanoid but most of them are. All Hellborn are descendents of the angels that were cast out of heaven along with [Lucifer]. Because of this, Hellborn fall into distinct lineages associated with fallen angels or other high ranking Hellborn. Some of these lineages include Hellhounds, Imps, and Arachnes. While being technically inaccurate, The Fallen are generally accepted as Hellborn for the purpose of classification. In general, more powerful Hellborn are given the title of devils and less powerful Hellborn are called demons, but there isn’t a clear line that defines this distinction.

Instead of biological children, Hellborn are created through a ritual performed by any number of powerful Hellborn. The resulting Hellborn will primarily take after the person who initiated the ritual, however they take traits from all participants. A Hellborn’s form may have supernatural abilities that are not magical just as a Hellbound does.

A Hellborn, in most situations, draws its magical power from the power of hell, which depends on how many mortal souls are trapped within it. Without sinners trapped in hell, they would have no power. This magic involves glowing sigils and rigid rules. In general, every lineage of Hellborn has their own type of magic pioneered by their primary ancestor. They are born with the knowledge of this magic and can perform it innately. Their magic gets weaker outside of hell.

Hellborn can only permanently die in two situations. The first situation is if they are killed by a weapon specifically designed to kill them. This involves a ritual that requires you know a Hellborn’s true name. The second situation is being anywhere aside from hell. The infernal magic that allows for reviving Hellborn is not strong enough within the mortal realm or heaven. Otherwise the Hellborn reappears near instantaneously in a place they believe is safe in hell.

Hellborn can traverse hell as they please. They may take Hellbound with them when they do, but in some situations there can be complications.

Maybe I'm dumb, but I'm having issues using Spanish descriptors. When is the right time to add "de" and when is it not? I would have "restaurante mexicano", but then my head would spin at "maestro de español". I know this is a stupid question, but I don't like how confused I am... is there some rule that denotes when "de" is appropriate to indicate a descriptor, like how you explained "cual" and "que" to me?

With this particular example it's about the nationality and how it comes across

If you said restaurante de México it would be "a restaurant from Mexico" as if the restaurant had originally been in Mexico (which could happen for foreign chains)

And if you said maestro español it would sound like "a Spanish teacher" as in the teacher is from Spain

(el) español is "the Spanish language", but español / española is "Spanish" or "Spaniard", so it becomes a different thing

...This can be especially useful if you don't know the gentilicio "demonym" of what someone is called when they're from a place - like there's a city in Spain called Huelva - someone from there is called onubense ... so un hombre onubense = un hombre de Huelva ; that's an irregular one though, a lot of them are generally straight-forward but still

It also helps if you don't know the nationality like danés/danesa is "Dane/Danish" but then the country is Dinamarca "Denmark"

You may also run into some cities/states/etc where it could be like un restaurante chico "a small restaurant" vs. un restaurante de Chico "a restaurant from (or potentially "in") Chico"

...

But for your example, it's especially important for genders - say you have una maestra francesa "a French teacher" as in "a female teacher who is French" vs. una maestra de francés "a French teacher" as in a "female teacher who teaches French"

Same idea with de inglés "English-related" vs. inglés/inglesa "English" the nationality; or un profesor/una profesora de literatura inglesa "an English literature teacher" for example has nothing to do with their nationality at all

Subjects in school are generally considered nouns, but especially in something where you could confuse someone's nationality with the subject they teach

In general if you're talking about adjectives by themselves they don't usually need a de

The adjectival phrases with de are normally de + noun (person, place, or thing)

Sometimes with nationalities it's a bigger difference like above

Other times it can be sort of whichever one you feel like - as in una camisa roja "a red shirt" vs. una camisa de color rojo is "a red-colored shirt" [lit. "a shirt of red color"; where de color (algo) is an adjectival phrase]

You will sometimes see de + adjective + noun or de + noun + adjective; same general idea as the other it's just a longer phrase

As an example - de primera is understood as "first-rate", probably de primera categoría ...as de segunda is "second-rate" or sometimes understood as "second class (citizen)" probably again de segunda categoría

But that's different from something like de primera mano "first-hand" where it is specifically "first + hand", and again de segunda mano would be "second-hand" which would mean like a thrift store or "second-hand" clothes etc.

Again, not really a set rule aside from a few where it's very important to make a distinction

[Also, side note, de + algo is sometimes referred to as "genitive" in case systems but it's - "of" or "belonging to", where it can also be property/possession in some cases; like la casa de mi amigo "my friend's house" vs a simple su casa "his house" which is much simpler but vague, as it could be "her house" or "their house" too - de + pronoun can be used to indicate clear ownership when something could be vague....... still considered a kind of adjectival phrase, but not the kind of adjective you'd immediately think of]
