The @sambuckylibrary will be holding a The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Anniversary Event! The event will start on March 18th and run until April 28th. During that time, we will be reblogging and sharing the work you guys create here on our blog.

What are the guidelines for the bingo?

For Everyone:

Things to be mindful of when creating:

For Sam

Avoid framing Sam only as a caretaker or emotional support for Bucky. Be mindful of Sam acting angry or aggressive in an out-of-character way and falling into the angry/sassy Black man trope (check out the MCU source material to help with character traits).

Avoid decentering Sam as a main character and refrain from focusing entirely on Bucky.

In art: avoid whitewashing Sam’s skin and research drawing Black characters.

General disclaimer: Race affects every aspect of his life, including interacting with police/government and the white structures of the world when it comes to performing his duties as Cap and simply being a Black man that lives in the U.S.

For Bucky

Avoid phrasing “flesh/normal/human hand” to refer to the contrast between his prosthetic arm and his right arm. The phrasing is ableist. You can simply refer to his prosthesis when relevant, otherwise use “right/left arm/hand”.

Unpopular Phase 4 & 5 Opinions

Quantumania is the worst Phase 4/5 movie. And it wasn’t even because “kang got beat by ants.” (I liked kang in this movie). It’s just that the Spy Kids aesthetic & bad acting & overall weird vibes just weren’t for me.

Love and Thunder is no worse than Ragnarok. I would argue that it’s better in a lot of ways, actually. I really liked it.

Taika Waititi ruined thor with bad humour all the way back in Ragnarok tbh, but y’all weren’t complaining about it then 😒.

BuckySarah is better than sambucky every day of the week.

The Marvels was a good ass movie & they’re one of my favorite teams in the mcu. I’ll never forgive cbm sites & online dudebros for killing the hype from the moment the film was announced.

I adore America Chavez & Kamala Kahn and I want to see them in everything. They must be protected at all costs.

Multiverse of Madness had shitty characterisation & basically just copy-pasted the ‘grief made me go off the deep end & hurt people, then I realised and stopped myself’ storyline from Wandavision… but Wanda was extremely selfish & apathetic to other people’s suffering from the time she was introduced in the mcu. MoM didn’t make her like that.

Wanda should’ve been looking for Vision (her actual real life boyfriend whom she spent years with irl) in MoM instead of the kids that weren’t even real that she spent like a week using as characters in her sitcom.

Making everyone forget Peter Parker wasn’t profound or poetic in any way- it was just frustrating and needlessly cruel.

I’m begging marvel to understand that heroes don’t have to be in constant suffering to be heroic & villains don’t have to sacrifice themselves to achieve redemption. Let characters heal and atone, you absolute weirdos.

What If…? is the most boring show ever. I’d rather watch Secret Invasion or She-Hulk.

Season 2 of Loki is, in a cinematic & artistic sense, the best marvel project period.

Loki season 1 was meh- more of a fun au than anything because his characterisation kinda sucked. Season 2 fixed it, though, and made it way easier for me to incorporate this version of Loki back into the larger mcu.

Having Steve stay in the past with Peggy was stupid af.

I don’t hate Peggy (or Captain Carter), though. I actually think she’s pretty cool.

I don’t really love Steve. He’s arrogant & they never really let him have flaws & something about him being a perfect metaphor for the American military industrial complex (and marvel painting that as a good thing) doesn’t sit right with me.

The Illuminati got done dirty and the only reason they went down so fast was because Wanda had all that plot armor.

I thought the retcon of having Wanda be “destined” to become the Scarlet Witch since birth was an annoying cop-out. Her powers originating from being experimented on with an infinity stone was way more interesting.

Loki & Wanda have almost the exact same powers.

Nebula deserved a bigger rule in killing Thanos & everything else moving forward.

I love Kathryn Newton but her acting as Cassie Lang was the worst acting I’ve ever seen in the mcu, like it was outrageously bad.

I’m glad Sam is the new Captain America and not Bucky.

The fact that Bucky probably isn’t gonna be one of Thee lead characters in the upcoming avengers movies feels sick and twisted.

Secret Invasion was actually passable until the G’iah scene at the end. That ruined it. And Nick Fury deserved way better for his solo series.

Kang is so much more interesting than Doctor Doom. I really hope they just recast him.

Carol Danvers does NOT deserve the hate she gets.

I actually disliked Carol until The Marvels. That movie made me a stan.

The way people treat Monica as Wanda’s little inferior pet creation or smth & then brag about it is uhh very sus.

I don’t like sylvie (bc she’s an amalgamation of 3 different comic characters- which killed any hopes of them appearing individually in the mcu, the creators used her existence to butcher Loki’s genderfluid rep, & she was written poorly) & I HATE sylki (bc it’s weird & unnecessary).

Marvel isn’t dead. I actually love where they’re taking things. But that’s just me.

What is this?

It’s a little SamBucky Bingo.

hi !! you can call me jay :) im a professional writer/literary editor. i use they/she pronouns. im 23, from the us, and have been in the marvel fandom since about 2013 or 2014 (watching iron man as a little kid doesn’t count) but now i’m like a reformed marvel stan in that i am so. fucking tired lol… spare good content, kevin feige ??? my posts primarily focus on cap quartet, especially steve rogers + bucky barnes, but you’ll also see other marvel media (like spider-man !!!!!!), dc, the occasional merlin post, poetry, fine art, music, aesthetics, memes, american girl, avengers-adjacent theme park stuff, and any other things that strike my fancy <3 some of my primary interests besides marvel include celtic and slavic mythology, fairytales, comics, and history !!

i headcanon steve rogers as bisexual, and mcu!bucky as gay (in terms of comics!bucky barnes, i could see him as more ambiguously MLM or bi). i consider myself a multishipper, with my main ships being stevebucky and samsteve, however i love love love samstevebucky (or stevesambucky ????), and enjoy others such as winterhawk, sambucky, clintasha, carolmaria, petermj, and sammisty too !! typically, i tend to only write for the first three but i enjoy fanfic and fanart for all of them. cartinelli also has a lot of nostalgia (and other more painful emotions) associated with it so there might be some of that on here in my older posts if you go through those tags. also i have three captain america ocs from my works a winter in the sun + a summer in new york: stepan, dani, and (bu)chanan, who appear on here from time to time.

💋do you have any guilty pleasure ships that you really want to write for but are scared to?

There are many ships I love to read but have never written, but in terms of ships I'd be scared to write... I think it's more often the case for me that either a scene for a ship grabs me by the throat and starts using my brain to do table reads and run dress rehearsals or it doesn't, and I don't really feel like I have much control over which way it goes.

👁 have you ever accidentally foreshadowed something you fully didn't intend to happen?

I feel like this happens to me with almost every fic I write on at least some level, because I am always discovering the shape of the plot as I write (I never have every step figured out in advance, and sometimes I only have one or two figured out when I start drafting). This often happens with character motivations: I realize there's another compelling reason why character z is reacting in x way, and at the same time I realize I've already been staging that reason without having consciously formulated it.

I think the most plotty way it's ever happened is with a Sambucky fic called "With Shadows as with Solid Things," which started as a little "huddling for warmth" scene, turned into a soul stone fic for aesthetic reasons (I had some ideas about weird environmental fuckery I wanted to play with), and for which the narrative explanation (like, why were they in the soul stone?) only became clear to me late in the game, though I realized I had already put the details in place for the explanation to work.

Side note: when I'm stuck on figuring out a part of my plot, one trick I've found actually does help me is to just bring in a character who likes to 'splain things to people and give them a narrative reason to start 'splaining the plot to another character. It sometimes feels like the characters know before I do.

👀what's a fic written by someone else that you REALLY wish you wrote yourself?

Oh wow, I could write such a long list here: there are so many styles and genres of fic I love to read and can't write myself. One type of fic that is not at all my strength (but that I adore) is a cleverly textured multi-chapter AU, where the worldbuilding in the AU not only fits with the canon elements but amplifies them and brings out new notes and layers in the source material's plot and characterization. Your gorgeous "the size of the fight in the dog" is a terrific example of that, though I can't really wish anyone but you had written it.

Rodeo au??? 👀

In response to this WIP Meme!! Thanks for the ask!

The Rodeo AU is a Sambucky fic where Sam is a barrel racer and Bucky is a bull rider. It follows them across a handful of weekend rodeos (and a few mid-week rendevous). It's supposed to be a fun country romp with lots of bad puns and silly moments.

This was the first scene/ aesthetic that has been pulled from the story but which I still like.

Sam had known he was gone for something three times in his life. The first was when he was seven years old and he snuck into a barrel racing tent at the local rodeo. Gideon had been infatuated with some girl at the time and begged their parents to go to the 4-H Stockshow and Rodeo so he could 'support her'. She showed sheep or something equally boring and it hadn't taken long for Sam to duck away from his parents in search of anything more interesting. What he found was the high school level barrel racing competition and he fell in love instantly. By the end of the year, he'd convinced his parents to let him ride and he never looked back.

The second time was when he was eighteen and he turned in his empty pew to look at the stranger who had just shoved open the doors to his daddy's church loud enough to clang around the empty space for several seconds. The other young man cringed and shot Sam an apologetic grin.

"Sorry 'bout that. The prayer part is usually quieter, promise," he said, all Montana slow and easy, sun drenched and haloed. He put himself in the pew behind Sam and settled himself down to pray but it was anything but quiet. He shifted on the old wooden bench and scratched at scabs and rough denim and sighed in frustration or boredom every time Sam had started to get his head back on right.

"If I die 'cause you can't sit still and pray right," Sam started to threaten him, turning again to glare.

"You are that racer!" the boy crowed in triumph. "I thought I recognized you. I'm competing this weekend too."

Sam stared at him and the boy held up his hands before crossing himself and making a fine picture of holy concentration up until he cracked open an eye to find Sam still looking at him.

"I'm Riley," the boy greeted, unfolding one hand from his clasp to hold it out to Sam. "I ride bulls."

"Oh, so you don't have two brain cells to rub together," Sam asked but took Riley’s hand in his. "Sam. Sam Wilson," he added for manners sake.

Riley grinned at him and Sam's heart nearly came out of his chest. "I can't be that bad if we've got the same pre-show ritual. Asking for just a little extra help." He kissed a cross necklace and gestured upwards. "And look, it's already brought me to you. Must be going something right."

Sam rolled his eyes and turned back to the altar, though he couldn't quite wipe his smile away.

The third time was when he was twenty seven and could feel his swear-off-of-bull riders slipping away.

He was sitting in the bar of a fairly high level rodeo in Texas, half watching the screen in the far corner as various televised events came and went. He'd turned his eyes from the bull riding but still caught the tail end of an interview with one of the riders. He was a terribly handsome man with long, dark hair and a busted, still bleeding nose, both of which just accented his bright blue eyes even more.

"Did you know this was going to be a competition winning ride?" the interviewer asked. "You looked confident from the start."

The bill rider shrugged wide shoulders and licked a bead of blood from his lip. "It just felt good," he said. "He felt good between my legs and I felt good up on top of him like that. I like a hard ride, like to have to work to stay on, so it was a good match."

And the interview continued like the man's innuendo hadn't just sent every ounce of rational thought, and blood, spilling from Sam's head to a pit much lower. He pushed his beer away from the edge of the bar so he could drop his face down to it instead.

He was so entirely screwed.

I understand why writers are frustrated but this constant pressure for people to reblog stuff on Tumblr is so annoying. Some people have curated blogs with specific aesthetics or theme and don't just reblog everything that pops up on their feeds so they leave a like as encouragement. I'm a fic writer myself (mostly Sambucky and Samsteve) and I have some fics where people left essay comments and others that only got a few hits and no comments at all. Sometimes even on the same fic, a certain chapter will get fewer hits than another. That's normal. It depends on how active the fandom is, how good your fic is, what time of day you post and a lot of other random factors. Trust me that if someone loves your story enough, they will take time to leave a comment or reblog and recommend it to their friends. But no one owes you feedback, just like you don't owe anyone to write if you don't want to. Write for yourself, because you enjoy it, because it's a fun creative outlet and not because you want to get feedback from strangers on Tumblr or AO3.

What are the guidelines for the bingo?

I will be borrowing some of this from the MYSU Valentine’s Day Bingo 2022 Guidelines, since they were fantastic.

For Everyone:

1. Remember to @sambuckylibrary in the post as well as #sbvday2024.

2. Please also tag the square you’re filling (for instance, if the square is “Mutual Pining”, use “#mutual pining” as one of your tags when posting about it on Tumblr).

3. If you’re uploading to AO3, please:

a ) Say somewhere which prompt you’re filling.

b ) Add it to SamBucky Valentine's Day Bingo 2024 Collection (SamBucky_Valentines_Day_Bingo_2024).

For Artists:

1. Create at least one piece of new art that can’t have been posted anywhere else before this.

2. All visual art forms are welcome:

a ) Gifsets, at least 3 gifs.

b ) Aesthetic boards or moodboards, at least 4 images each.

c ) Drawing/painting, that is not a sketch.

d) Fan video.

e) Graphics edit.

For Authors:

1. At least 500 words.

2. Posted on Tumblr or AO3.

3. Can be part of a series, but should work as a standalone.

For Podficcers:

1. The podfic should at least be 5 minutes long.

2. It should be posted on either Tumblr or AO3.

3. The podfic can be of a fic made for the event, a fic not made for the event while still adhering to the prompt, or a notfic.

For Fic Rec Lists:

1. You must have at least five fics or podfics on the rec list.

2. Make sure to give brief descriptions of the fics or podfics as well as their rating and wordcount.

For Commenters:

1. Any amount of comment counts, from a heart emoji ("❤️") to an essay.

2. We would rather this be about what makes you happy and joyful about reading than any scathing critiques.

Things to be mindful of when creating:

For Sam

Avoid framing Sam only as a caretaker or emotional support for Bucky. Be mindful of Sam acting angry or aggressive in an out-of-character way and falling into the angry/sassy Black man trope (check out the MCU source material to help with character traits).

Avoid decentering Sam as a main character and refrain from focusing entirely on Bucky.

In art: avoid whitewashing Sam’s skin and research drawing Black characters.

General disclaimer: Race affects every aspect of his life, including interacting with police/government and the white structures of the world when it comes to performing his duties as Cap and simply being a Black man that lives in the U.S.

For Bucky

Avoid phrasing “flesh/normal/human hand” to refer to the contrast between his prosthetic arm and his right arm. The phrasing is ableist. You can simply refer to his prosthesis when relevant, otherwise use “right/left arm/hand”.
