Welcome to Corroded Coffin Fest!

This is a fanworks challenge/event that is all about Corroded Coffin. It will take place from July 1st thru July 31st.

Thanks so much for showing interest in this event during this post! If you have friends that you think would like to participate, please considering reblogging this announcement!

The calendar of prompts is located here:

Since there are so many events going on (and we love to see it!) we've decided to set a word count range for this event, so the love can be spread around to more events.

GUIDELINES:

Ideas for works include: fic, art, gifsets, fanvids, moodboards, edits, playlists, or anything else you can think of to celebrate Corroded Coffin!

For fics, there is a word count minimum/maximum of between 300-1000 words per drabble. We'll use wordcounter.net to check the word counts before reblogging, so make sure you stick to that range!

Do one prompt, do them all. Hell, do them all twice! It's totally up to you. You can pick and choose what you're interested in. And we're not going to police how you interpret the prompt. Just use them as a jumping off point to be inspired by the boys of Corroded Coffin, and then share that inspiration with us! (Not everything has to be band related, we encourage you to explore other parts of their lives, too!)

Submissions can absolutely be connected to other prompts from the event, or even past works, but should still be able to stand alone each day.

Every morning a new prompt card will go up, reminding everyone of what that day's prompt will be.

All submissions should include any pairings featured, content rating and any content warnings (CW) or tags that you think are appropriate. Please put the prompt you are fulfilling as well, just to keep things straightforward. A sample could look something like this:

For the artists! Your art submission must be posted on the same day as the current prompt in order to be reblogged by this blog. Your piece of art (or other creation) must be Corroded Coffin focused, using any combination of the guys, together or solo. Of course, other characters can be included, too! But you need to have at least one of the CC band members in it for it to count for this event. Thank you!

All ships are welcome, as long as they include at least one member of Corroded Coffin: Eddie, Jeff, Gareth & Freak. (Who I look forward to learning the name of from you all, time and time again!)

Autistic Anime Boys Tournament Bracket

Heeey guys! It’s finally time for our next tournament! Get ready to pit all your favorite autistic anime* boys against one another~ 😈😈😈 The same rules as the autistic anime girls poll apply here, but I will reiterate them below.

*Note: I understand that the term ‘anime’ does not, semantically, apply to every character that I will allow into the poll—I am simply using the term in a general manner, because it is quick to say and widely recognized. Characters from print media (i.e. manga, manhwa, manhua), ‘anime-style’ webcomics and games/visual novels, and from non-Japanese East Asian animation like donghua and hanguk aeni are welcome as well.

No western media, unless the characters are deliberately designed in an 'anime-style’ (ex: in the past, I have allowed characters from things like DDLC). It can't be a temporary or one-off gag style-change either. It must be the series' regular artstyle. Judging this will be my subjective opinion, but I am going to be excluding animation that stylistically toes the line (sorry AtLA and VLD fans).

Don't submit Shigeo Kageyama from Mob Psycho 100. His autism swag is too powerful and iconic, so I've decided he will be the mascot of this tourney. The winner of the poll will be rewarded with a special exhibition match against Mob. 👍👍

The characters do not need to be canonically autistic. Headcanons are perfectly fine.

You can submit as many characters as you like, but do not submit the same character multiple times.

Submit characters through the designated Google form. Any sent through asks/messages/any other means will be ignored and you’ll be kindly redirected to the form. Just keeps things more organized this way.

Don't be a dick if your fav loses. Please. Let's all be civil here and have a good time. Doing tumblr polls is entirely for fun!

Definitely send propaganda for the contestants! I love hearing people infodump about their favs.

This time around, I will not make submitting propaganda a requirement on the form, but it does significantly increase your character’s chances of getting into the bracket.

I will attempt to be more selective for this poll, to avoid an enormous bracket like last time (I just have a tendency to get attached to submissions and can’t help but let in as many as I can 😅), but I won’t officially decide on the number of competitors until after submissions close.

fun fact: the name hobby originated from the small toy, a 'hobbyhorse'.

there are some general guidelines as to how many hobbies a person should have. it is good to have 2-5 hobbies, with 2-3 that you stick to semi-regularly. your hobbies should range across these four areas: physical, cerebral, creative, and community.

Welcome! This is an Ask-based meta blog for looking into the intersections of fanon and canon in The Silmarillion fandom.

What does that mean?

“Fanon archaeology” means digging into the canon texts to theorise about where fanons come from. It's a bit like a "fanon mythbusters" blog except that nothing is being busted. The aim here is to investigate in a spirit of curiosity and fun that celebrates fandom creativity. It is not to criticise or argue against. It is also a great place to send in a Ask about the various “versions” of canon you hear about in this fandom.

Ask Guidelines

To be revised as the blog evolves.

Currently only taking Asks primarily to do with the Years of the Trees and First Age.

Please be respectful in your wording. Avoid language that is judgmental or generalising. For example, instead of saying, “I hate that everyone thinks Sauron tortured Maedhros, can you set the record straight?” just ask the question: “Where does the idea that Sauron tortured Maedhros come from?”

We don't do meta on the canonical basis of ships (Vingilot excepted). This topic is very subjective and outside the scope of the blog.

Responses will focus on links to canon, not fandom history.

We will try to answer approx. one Ask per week.

Replies to anon asks will be tagged #anon.

Why bother with this?

The entire corpus of works published by J.R.R Tolkien or his son Christopher is massive, difficult to navigate, and not always accessible. Many fans are curious about the relationship between fanon and canon but perhaps don’t have the time, energy, or resources to dig into the texts. We’re here to do the archaeology: excavate the quotes, dust off the footnotes, and report back on the findings.

Who are you?

Currently this blog is run by one person, but to avoid any confusion between my individual takes and the intended objectivity of this blog, I am keeping my fandom identity on the down-low. I am not a scholar or an expert, but I love researching and writing meta. For now the blog is Silmarillion-focused because that’s my area of interest and knowledge. If and when the blog grows, I hope to expand to include other Tolkien canon and invite fandom community members to contribute responses to Asks.

This is a positive space.

We love fanon, canon, and the creative process that connects them. Positive, constructive, and supportive engagement with our posts is encouraged. Negative, hostile, offensive engagement is not, and we may block users who choose to engage in this way.

Please be respectful of the community and remember we are all just here hanging out because we love the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

In this blog you will find lovely line art by members of the DCA community who have donated their work ready to be colored in by other artists! Our aim is to create an easy and fun way for artists in our community to collaborate together!

We are a small blog in collaboration with The DCA Palooza.

To get involved you can add a post to the coloring book via the ‘Submit a Page’ section of this blog. Please familiarize yourself with our guidelines before you make a submission:

GUIDELINES:

Line-Art Submissions should:

be no smaller than 1000px on the shortest edge

be clean and ready to be colored

stay SFW (a little spice is fine)

include an Image ID (highly encouraged)

be your own work

be in a format that doesn't have transparency (e.g jpg), so it can be seen easily on dark tumblr modes (highly encouraged)

Color Submissions should:

be based off of an existing piece of line-art from the blog

tag the original line artist in the description

tag the @dca-coloring-book

fully preserve any signature included in the original work

stay SFW (a little spice is fine)

include an Image ID (highly encouraged)

be your own work

It’s so sad to me how scared the Twitter and Reddit refugees are of making mistakes on this website.

Dear refugees, as someone who used to be on both Twitter and Reddit but who uses Tumblr the longest of all sites (besides Youtube):

This is the website without cringe culture. Don’t be ashamed. You won’t get downvoted or beat up for even your weirdest opinions because frankly, 90% of the users on this website are either neurodivergent or queer or a mix of both (me, I’m talking about me)

This website is like the table of bullied kids you always used to avoid in highschool.

We all know we’re different, strange, cringy, obsessive.

That’s why this place holds so little judgement.

We aren’t insecure incels. We embrace our differences.

Submissions open until January 15th!!!

Hello! Welcome to this lil tournament I'm putting together, despite also running two others right now. Why am I like this.

Anyways!!! I'm schizospec. Sadly, I don't know a lot of characters from media who are also on the schizospectrum or have psychosis. So, I figured, why not make a tournament for it?

Guidelines:

No ableism will be tolerated, nor will any other kind of bigotry.

You do NOT have to be psychotic to interact with this tournament/blog. Everyone is welcome! Honestly, I'd be really happy if lots of different people got to have a good time and learn here. Anyone can submit a character!

No anti-propaganda, bullying, harassment, etc. This is for fun.

All submissions must be sent through the ask box to be considered. This tournament will have 32 participants, tops.

NO NSFW IN THE IMAGES SENT. Light blood is allowed but please no full-on gore. A good example is YTTD or Danganronpa; there's blood, but nothing too explicit.

Headcanons are allowed! Please indicate whether the character actually fits the DSM-5 criteria or if it's your headcanon.

Characters with any condition that would cause psychosis are welcome, as well as schizospec characters without psychosis.

You can submit multiple characters in SEPERATE asks. One character per ask. Please do not spam the same character over and over.

No ocs, I'm sorry. I'm sure they're wonderful :)

In regards to images, I will accept fanart ONLY if the artist has given explicit permission, the artist's name is submitted with the art, and if official art isn't submitted in other submissions.

Now, you may be asking, what should I include in my submission? I would appreciate if your submission went something like this:

Image of character (links work fine)

What criteria do they fit and what is/would be their diagnosis (schizophrenia, bpd, ptsd, etc)

Curious about what the criteria is? Here's a link to the DSM-5 criteria for schizophrenia, which is a good place to start. I may post links to other collections, idk!!! But this is what we'll be using mostly. If it's difficult to understand or read, I can make a separate post explaining the official criteria. However, if you're schizospec or deal with psychosis and have your own experience to add to it, please feel free to say that!

i usually don't do this but i noticed too many of the new followers look like bots (no profile picture, no bio, no likes/following even if they're visible). so if you don't want me to block you please at least update the profile picture (use anything, just please don't have the default icons) and put something in your bio (would be better if it was your age, to follow me you have to be 16+*). i still stand with what i have written in my rules = i'm not your mom and if you interact with me on nsfw posts as a minor it's not my fault*, but i have a lot of followers and i need to do a cleanup. i'm writing this post now but i will start blocking in a few weeks (depending on how busy i am it will either be the end of december or the start of january) so more of you have time to see this, i will reblog this frequently and give one last warning before starting to block.

*i'm not posting much fluff anymore but it's still something i write so ofc what i stated in the past still stands, if you're a minor you can interact with those works and talk to me about sfw things but you still have to be 16 (if you're younger get out thanks)

Big Bang Guidelines 2024

About Billy Hargrove Big Bang: We all love Billy Hargrove here and wish to showcase everyone's talents! From both writers and artists we are a big bang that focuses on Billy Hargrove! He will be the main focal point of any stories for this event.

Guidelines:

All participants must be at least 18 years old to join this event.

All BHBB authors must have an AO3 account. If you do not have an account, the mods will provide you with a code to make one, or you can make one on your own through the site itself. If you have any troubles, please contact a mod so that we can help. Artists don’t need an AO3 account.

Art should be placed in a posted AO3 fic or linked in the Notes section in the fic to the original posts on tumblr/twt/etc. Billy Hargrove Big Bang is open to all canon, alternative universes/timelines, crossovers, etc.

Stories for Billy can be explicit, romantic, or general. Authors and artists are responsible for all contact between their claimed partners during the course of the event. If you have difficulties reaching your artist or author, please contact a mod. No ghosting your teammates/mod teams. If we cannot reach you at all, you will not be able to join in future BHBB events.

Stories don’t have to be in Billy's POV, but they must HEAVILY have Billy as the main focal point of your story. Stories/Art should not be posted anywhere before the Big Bang is finished.

RPF (real person fiction is not allowed).

All Dead Dove (minus RPF) content is allowed for this event. We ask in stories, servers, art, etc., that you tag/censor accordingly.

If you need to drop out of the event, please let the mods know as soon as possible. If you need an extension instead, please let us know! We understand real life stuff can sometimes get in the way.

Fics can be current WIPs, however, they cannot be finished, near completion, or posted/shared anywhere before

Two writers can collaborate, but just make sure to let the mod team know beforehand.

Fics shall remain a secret, until after claims are over with. All discussions of your fics can be talked with other writers in private servers, DMs, or the BHBB server private channels for writers. Authors cannot share their fics ideas/WIPs/etc. with artists before claims.

Artists:

No AI art of any kind is accepted for the event. (Honor system)

Must create at least 1 piece of artwork.

Digital Art Requirements: 600x600 pixels minimum Fan Video: Must be at least 1 minute and 30 seconds long. GIFs sets: Must have at least 8 frames per GIF.

Writers:

No AI written for this event will be accepted/allowed. (Honor system)

10k words minimum, with no maximum, so feel free to write more beyond the minimum.

Stories must center around Billy, but the POV doesn’t have to solely be in Billy’s POV.

Beta Readers:

Must provide reliable information for us, in order to contact you.

List your preferences, reading style, maximum word count, preferred/estimated turnaround time, and topics that you wish to avoid. Feel free to list other information that you would like others to know.

All communications are between you and the writer, but the mods are also available if we are needed.

Pitch Hitters (artists):

Must provide reliable information for us, in order to contact you.

Mods will reach out, via email, when we have a fic that needs an artist.

Pitch Hitters are not obligated to accept any fics emailed their way. The fics will have summaries, word count, etc. If you are interested in the fic that’s emailed to you, then please let the mods know, in order to claim it.
