“Yall don’t know him like I know him.”
Except what I mean is that I know the character in question to be, in fact, the most irredeemable piece of shit on the whole show, and am pulling my hair out over the fact that you guys think he’s a lil pookie.

Once again thinking about the season 5 “I gave everything for you, and this is what you give to me!?” scene…
I don’t think Dean or Sam or anyone really realised the gravity of the decision cas made regarding his own future when he chose to rebel. Either they’d lose and Lucifer/Michael would kill Cas for going against them, or they’d win and while everyone else was celebrating, Cas’s family would track him down and kill him for disobedience. It was literally a lose-lose situation for him personally.
Like with Sam and Dean, at least there was somewhat of a chance that they could convince their respective archangels to let them share custody of the meat suit if they lost or they’d win and everything would be hunky dory. But with cas, there was a 100% chance he was going to die as soon as he chose to help them. Out of all the ‘good guys’, he was the one sacrificing the most to save humanity… and the kicker is he’s the only one who wouldn’t have benefited from the world being saved & wouldn’t have suffered if he’d just let it burn.
And it’s wild that like… nobody ever acknowledged it. Like ever.

how come some people write cas like he has never used a contraction before in his life. this guy starts off sentences with “well” and “umm” and people are giving him phrases like “i quite appreciate your punctual perspicacity in this corporeal matter i am in fact functioning at maximum capacity” like nooo the motherfucker would just say “yeah im fine”

Alternatively: it was about realising that things like emotion and free will and compassion and defiance aren’t just human things.
cas’ character arc wasn’t about becoming “more human,” it was about realizing that “human” things like emotions and free will and a deep appreciation for humanity make him a better angel

I think the most disappointing thing about Castiel's story is that they really did him a disservice by not having him be able to make his big sacrifice in front of his whole family. He was the first advocate for Jack and he and Sam had weird, special, chaotic relationship and they just crapped all over that in favor of having him being sucked away in a dingy little room with nobody to see it but Dean, who was mostly worrying about getting out of there and getting back to his brother.
See I’m actually pissed at the fandom for making Dean’s relationship with Castiel so much more of a bigger deal than it ever should have been- which is probably partly what resulted in the writers choosing to capitalise on this before the end of the show.
Tethering Castiel to Dean narratively stopped him from being able to form interesting relationships with other characters, and form strong alliances with humans, and maybe other species, beyond Sam and Dean. Beyond season 8, most of his screen time was fan service. And I do mean season 8- I actually liked Castiel’s story up until about then, and I really enjoyed Metatron as a villain and felt like the writing room at least knew what they wanted to do with Castiel and his power as a plot device. It was probably the last time I was still bothered to watch scenes that didn’t involve Sam or Dean.
But also the thing that pissed me off generally with the show is the ignorance the writers seemed to have of the overall foundation of the characters and relationships, good or otherwise, between them and their friends/ SO’s and antagonists.
See: Sam and Lucifer as a comedy??
Dean, a man who never had any faith, being the one with an impassioned speech to Chuck, while Sam had always been a believer for his whole life much to Dean’s chagrin? But Dean gets the tearful you let me down speech? why???
Castiel gets to tell Dean that he loves him but Sam doesn’t???
I think that didn’t really annoy me until later on. I think Castiel was sort of reduced a bit in the end to something of a boring YA ‘fated crush’ storyline that was a massive disservice to the character.
I also think that, as someone who enjoyed Sam and Castiel as a team, I was fucked over for a ship. It’s hard for me to look back on the character of Castiel and see him without a little bit of a ‘fuck you dude’ now. Like- I enjoy the character as a canon philosophical concept- the angel that fell in love with humanity but could never fit or know their love the way he wanted to because he wasn’t ‘made’ to understand it, and every time he did it broke him. It’s a very beautiful idea for a lot of us who also feel we weren’t made to fit with humanity!
For him to be reduced like that, and for him to reduce the sum of his own story to ‘don’t mind me just simping for Dean’ was a major disappointment. Especially when the show itself showed us that there was more Castiel valued in humanity than just Dean.

As a cas stan who hates Dean’s guts and is meh on Sam… this is all true.
DEAN WINCHESTER IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE GAY OR BISEXUAL! WATCH THE DAMN SHOW WITHOUT SHIPPING GLASSES AND YOU’LL SEE!
SAM WINCHESTER IS A MAIN CHARACTER!
DEAN AND SAM ARE SOULMATES! THEY ALWAYS WILL BE!
CASTIEL IS NOT A MAIN CHARACTER! HE NEVER WAS!
SUPERNATURAL IS ABOUT TWO BROTHERS, NOT AN ANGEL AND A HUMAN!
THE WINCHESTER BROTHERS ARE THE ONLY MAIN CHARACTERS OF SUPERNATURAL, NO ONE ELSE!
Misha is an asshole and Jensen and Jared know their characters better than anyone. They have never led anyone on as to what their characters are in sexuality or anything. Unlike Misha.

Unpopular opinion: Sam would’ve been so much better off if Dean had just let him run away and end up with some nice normal family instead of ‘being the parent’ and ‘taking care of Sammy’ himself

This is so true. Considering the demon blood arc & the mark of Cain arc are essentially the same story, seeing fans’ reactions to one vs the other is uh… interesting.
Does it still frustrate anyone else that Sam was villainized and ostracized for his mistakes but Dean was sympathized with and supported for his? I realize that Sam's were in the early days of the show when the story telling was still fresh and nuanced, but it's so blatant that they must have realized what they were doing when they had Sam and Castiel treating Dean like a victim rather than the perpetrator of his own bad choices.

Just so we’re clear, when I say ‘cas deserved better’ I’m referring to earlier seasons cas. Later seasons cas is annoying pathetic poorly-acted plot fodder & I simply can’t be bothered to care about him <3

If anything it was worse in later seasons bc at least in the earlier ones he said stuff jokingly and had some tiny level of charm to distract from it, but later on he’s literally just a cardboard cutout that spits outright hatred at any woman that annoys him slightly.
i can't think of a more copium-filled statement than implying that dean was only a misogynist in the early seasons and that he somehow stopped and learned better later on. what show were you watching. he was denigrating women and calling them skanks whores and bitches til the day he became a rebar kebab

Also Cas is a fourth dimensional wavelength of a being, he looks at everybody’s souls all day long anytime he glances at someone. Like this statement is just so meaningless.
“cas has literally looked at dean’s soul !!” yeah but cas isn’t the one dean shares his soul with…

Also he bullied, controlled, and belittled Sam relentlessly growing up. If he was Sam’s ‘parent figure’ then he was an abusive one 😭
people on tiktok after making an edit of dean to labour by paris paloma ‘b-because he had to raise his younger brother 🥺🥺’ when dean is constantly misogynistic and objectifies women throughout the entire show
