The more I see “deleted scenes” and fan-made rewrites, the more I think Wish’s main problem was forcing the movie to be about making your own wishes come true. Everything’s tied to this idea that it’s a story “about wishes.” But that’s silly. You can’t base a movie on those two words. What about wishes?

“Be careful what you wish for?” That’s a movie idea. The main character can wish for something she thinks will make her life better, but because she never understood that thing she wanted, it turns out to be a terrible fit for her life.

“Wishes can come true if you’re ___?” That’s a movie idea. Fill in the blank with an attribute you want to highlight: brave, selfless, willing to work hard, or of course, faithful.

“Wishing makes life worth living?” That’s a movie idea. Like Hadestown or Mary Poppins; maybe the main character learns that even when circumstances are beyond her control, seeing the world as it could be makes those circumstances light and easy.

But just… “it’s about wishes?” That vibe, where the wishes have to be tangible things, bubbles, ribbons tied to trees, etc…. and those tangible things are the driving force of the plot? That doesn’t make for a good story.

Wishes are only useful in a story, at all, because “wish” is just a fancy term for “what a character wants and can’t reach on their own.” So if you make a movie that’s “about wishes,” but all the characters are trying to do is “protect the desire for something more that can’t be reached,” you have a really flat and hollow movie. One that actually makes the wishes themselves boring. Which…is horrible because what you just did there was not only make magical flowing endangered bubbles boring. You made every character’s main motivation boring.

A good story would have been just that: a story. A character who wants something they can’t reach alone, who overcomes obstacles or makes flawed decisions to reach what they’re unable to get. And then has to learn the lesson they needed to learn in the first place.

The wish itself should just be sort of calmly featured in the background: like Princess and the Frog. Is Tiana wishing for her restaurant? Yes. But is the restaurant, or her act of saying words to the stars about the restaurant, the focus of the movie? No, it’s just a normal “idea or dream the character has.” It’s much more powerful there. ‘’If it ain’t broke, do not let me catch you trying to fix it.

Top 15 Helaegon scenes (that we will probably never see)

Note that these are my opinions and preferences and if you don’t agree with them, just ignore it and scroll away 

As much as I love these two and team green in general, it is obvious that the writers of hotd clearly have a bias towards team black. ( That especially sucks when you consider the fact that the team green castings are utter perfection ) But with what they have done in s1, I highly doubt s2 is going to give the greens anything and instead just make them comically evil and rush their plot lines and what not

So this is basically a list of scenes I would have loved to see for Helaegon in both seasons (I may do the other characters as well) 

The list is organised from most likely to happen/ to have happened (it won’t/wouldn’t have but I need a system) i.e. 15 and least likely to happen / to have happened i.e. 1 

15.a scene after blood & cheese

🕯️him approaching her after/during the funeral 

🕯️them trying to not cry in front of the other but all in vain

🕯️them seeking comfort with each other (even if doesn’t last long)

14.hurt/comfort conversation/ argument about Aegon’s drinking and whoring 

🕯️could tie into no.13 

🕯️them arguing at the top of their lungs 

🕯️or having a conversation through tears 

13.a heartfelt conversation about how they are handling being king and queen

🕯️them talking about the pressure

🕯️how they are not ready for it/cut out for it

🕯️them promising each other that they’ll look out for the other and keep their family safe 

12.them at the green counsel together 

🕯️just to watch them glance at each other when a counsel member says something stupid/questionable/ about their kids or them

🕯️them holding hands when tough news is presented 

🕯️them listening intently whenever the other speaks 

11.dragon riding 

🕯️(flashback) Aegon asking her if she would like to go dragon riding with him as she has just claimed dreamfyre 

🕯️them flying around king’s landing with their kids saddled in on their dragons 

10.family dinner

🕯️just the greens having dinner together to welcome daeron and/or gwayne 

🕯️them keeping a close eye on their kids but slowly letting their guard down when they see how comfortable they are with their uncle

🕯️them being the older sibling menaces they are and teasing the hells out of Aemond and Daeron 

🕯️Helaena having to leave early as the kids want only her to get them to bed and Aegon bringing desert to her in their room

09.their younger versions interacting with Rhaenyra 

🕯️either separately or together 

🕯️Helaena being closed off at firsts but then they start discussing all sorts of things from bugs to jewellery to how both of them loved to hear stories from Alicent 

🕯️Aegon and Rhaenyra initially wanting to keep away from each other but they have a small talk before his wedding about Helaena, their dragons and their father before they are rudely interrupted by either daemon or Otto or both. 

08.scenes with their kids 

🕯️Helaena comforting Jaehaerys after someone made a comment about his fingers

🕯️Aegon having some self reflection after Jaehaera says they threatened to rape her (obviously in the show, would not have included the rapist thing if I was writing it but if they wanted to “redeem” him, this is the best solution imo)

🕯️them trying to decide what to name maelor along with the twins 

07.Helaena’s pregnancy 

🕯️either with maelor or a 4th child (according to some leaks) 

🕯️Criston whispering to Aegon during a counsel that it’s a boy/girl 

🕯️him looking around the arguing members and quietly slipping out of the room before rushing to his wife 

06.dance/ballroom scene 

🕯️after the jace debacle, his insecurities skyrocket 

🕯️just him getting fully intoxicated by his wife as they dance 

🕯️them laughing as they spin around 

🕯️them getting applause and cheers as they make their way to the floor 

05.them gifting each other stuff 

🕯️necklaces, brooches for not being around as often 

🕯️chalices with various dragon imagery for his nameday 

🕯️her stitching his favourite flower onto his nightshirt

🕯️them getting their kids to help when they want to surprise the other with something 

04.(flashback) where they get into trouble and collectively decide to blame Aemond 

🕯️Alicent interrogating the shit out of them 

🕯️one look and they were at the library reading mythology about the Seven and the last person they saw at the crime scene was Aemond 

🕯️Alicent gives a disappointed sigh and they are both dismissed and as they walk away- a casual “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?” from the other side of the door 

03.wedding flashback

🕯️Both are initially against it, they think of it as a punishment 

🕯️but a talk with their mother or half-sister makes them understand that this is for the betterment of the family  

🕯️they dance together, they talk shit about what the lords and ladies are wearing, they soften up at their mother’s wide smile 

🕯️Perhaps their father is smiling too. They can’t tell. But right now it doesn’t matter, they don’t care.

🕯️Aegon wearing white with gold details and a gold cloak with his hair tied up

🕯️Helaena wearing white with silver details and blue jewels on her dress and her crown 

02.bathtub scene

HELLO MY LOVELY STARS!!!

You didn't expect to see me updating KoW so soon, did you???

I usually post updates on Saturday or Sunday, but I'll be traveling so I decided to leave the previews today.

In fact, this trip is the warning I have to give. I will be away from my work desk and my materials for a few days (I don't know exactly how many but between one and two weeks), therefore I will not be able to make progress on the Comic during this period.

This is sad I know. But look on the bright side, I'm going to get a lot of rest and return to work with renewed energy!!!

THE CONTINUATION OF THE OUTLINES OF CHAPTER 1 OF "THE KINGDOM OF WISHES"

"But when the big day arrived, Florian was crowned king, as Magnus still didn't feel confident and claimed that something was missing in his life; something that gave him strength and courage!"

"It was then that Magnus met Amaya."

"The most beautiful maiden he had ever seen had been found adrift in a boat and taken shelter in the castle by order of King Florian."

"As a form of gratitude for the hospitality, Amaya began to serve the court as a royal alchemist and, as the days went by, she ended up winning Magnus' heart, finally making him feel like he could do...anything".

"Encouraged by his new love, Magnus decided to travel in search of adventure, leaving the kingdom to prosper in Florian's hands."

"But then, a tragedy happened. When Magnus returned to Rosas he discovered that his brother had passed away due to illness. A painful loss for the entire kingdom, which was made worse by Florian not having legitimate heirs"

"Magnus was moved. He could not let the magnificent legacy of his beloved brother and predecessors end like this."

"Feeling confident with Amaya by your side, Magnus took over the throne and changed the way wishes were granted monthly, doing dozens of them a week, making them float back to your Wish Makers, during the night"

The Kingdom was so happy and grateful that they began to name their new rulers with nicknames that reflected their magnificence and passion, thus making them known as King Magnífico and Queen Amable.

"The end".

Sabino: "I admire your taste in complex stories, Asha, but... Hmm...Don't you think this is too complicated for you?"

Asha: "I thought it was a fantasy book, but it's just romance. Yuck!”

Sabino: "Never judge a book by its cover, darling! What you have here is a history book."

Asha: "But he doesn't explain things very well.Where does Queen Amaya come from? And the king's staff?What disease did Florian die from?"

Sabino: "Well, Asha, let's see..."

"First, the queen is very private about her past, we have to respect that."

"Second. That staff is just a souvenir the king got on his travels."

Sabino: "And third. Sometimes bad things just... happen... without explanation."

"And there's nothing we can do about it."

"Unless you move on..."

I just want to tell you that I really love your writing, your world building is very good and I can imagine it perfectly in my head with how you describe things. I followed Night Market since it was only a few chapters in until it's a finished WIP and I also really enjoy how you add things, details, and change of scenes in the full game for book 1 that covers all the plot holes from the WIP that makes it richer and more realistic. I've been replaying book 1 again now, trying different choices before also replaying book 2 demo to get the feels 👹

Now it feels like I'm rambling useless stuff but in other words, I love your work 🫶🏻 and I enjoy it very much! I can't wait for book 2 but don't forget to take care of yourself too though 😘

Going back over book 1 was a beast but it was well worth it. I felt like it became a much more complete story. There were a lot of little things that I left out which I think was fine for a wip but for the full release, I just wanted the story to feel rich. Like it was a world that you could actually imagine. It took months to go back over all of it and get it to a point that I was happy with. And I'm sure in a year or so, if I go over it again, I'll find more to add. The Night Market feels like a game that is never ending. There is always so much more to explore and I'm excited for the future of it.

I can’t believe this actually has to be said but don’t send hate, harass, or send death threats to anyone for using Bright, Shaw, or a rewrite.

Additionally make sure you tag correctly I’ve already seen Bright users complain about having their posts tagged as Shaw or Myriad/rewrites and I’ve seen rewrite creators complain about having their rewrites tagged as Bright or Shaw, it’s not that hard to read blog rules and use common sense, creators shouldn’t have to state which tags can or can’t be used in each and everyone of their posts.

The fantasy in modern Arthuriana (1)

This is a loose translation of the French article « The children of Merlin : the Medieval magic revisited », included in the compilation “King Arthur in the mirror of time” (part two: Histories of Arthur, The Literary Matter of the 20th century)

I/ Introduction

The “merveilleux” [t.n.: a French word that can correspond to the English “fantasy” but is distinct from it and means in a more general way wonders and marvels, and covers a wider scope of elements than just modern fantasy novels] is so essential to the Arthurian tales of the Middle-Ages that it is quite legitimate to ask if the ensemble would have had such a posterity without its numerous monsters, enchanted castles and magical rings, without forgetting the Quest of the Grail, the wonder by excellence. As such, even though most of modern rewritings made an effort to recreate an historical realism, the “merveilleux” must always find its place within the plot, even if it is just to satisfy the reader’s expectations. Moreover, the “fantasy”, which owes a lot to the Arthurian legend, and heavily influenced a large share of its contemporary continuations, is characterized by an abundant use of magic. The sorcerers and sorceresses of the Matter of Britain were thus regenerated by the new addition of this modernized “merveilleux” that is the fantasy. But, depending on the authors, a demystification at various degrees of the medieval legend leads to more or less fantastical treatments of the rewrite. More precisely, it seems that, after the historicizing of the Arthurian material between the 60s and 80s, a reintroduction of the marvelous took place which aims to find magic’s role within the established setting of the historical novel. This mix of “historical” and “traditional” leads again to the question of the Arthurian genre. At the same time historical and fantastical, the new Arthurian roman hesitates between polarities that are constantly getting more developed, more complex and richer, complicating any attempt at a confinement to a specific genre. The case of two authors of recent Arthurian cycles, Stephen Lawhead (The Pendragon Cycle) and Bernard Cornwell (The Warlord Chronicles), is especially revealing. In their way to approach the “merveilleux”, they illustrate very well the different habits of the authors concerned with resurrecting the Arthurian legend.

Why do you wanna do rewrites, I quite like your 'old' fics, do you not like them?

I am in a different mind set and place then I was when I originally wrote some of my old stuff. I adore a good chunk of my old writing but there are two things in particular I look back on and feel so ashamed because I know I could have done better and you guys deserve better from me. Since it seems that no one really has any specific ones in mind those two will be the only ones rewritten and if you guys truly like the original I will keep those available for you to read. I however want you all to have my best work because that is what you deserve.

I am not always the best to myself but seeing that my writing connects with so many people and can make them happy makes me want to give you all I can. And if there are specific fics or writings you don’t want me to touch feel free to let me know! I adore all of my followers and mutuals for allowing me to share my writing and inspiring me to keep writing more!
