Hey. Pssst. I hear you like that show from 20 years ago. Well good news! How would you like us to dig up and reanimate its corpse, parading it around Weekend At Bernie’s style for 10 more episodes?
Why are you crying?

The Reboot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We've gotten 22 new cats the kids have loved over the years. The only answer is to resurrect the first one.
I have complicated feelings about reboots. This was originally going to be a two panel photobash.
Prompt format and process under the fold.
14 dall-e 3 gens, composited and edited into comic format.
Prompts are mostly based on this format:
a comic panel, a haggard man, light stubble, in a t-shirt, carrying a sack in one hand, walks through a cemetery, it is dark and stormy, rain falling, B&W comic inks by Joe Orlando and jack davis, EC comics, 1947,
a large sack and a pile of power rangers action figures at the bottom of a shallow grave, dramatic angle, top-down view, it is dark and stormy, rain falls all around. B&W comic inks by Joe Orlando and jack davis, EC comics, 1947
a comic panel, a closeup of a man's hand digging a handful of earth from the ground, it is dark and stormy, rain falls all around. B&W comic inks by Joe Orlando and jack davis, EC comics, 1947
With various changes to the action descriptions as needed.

Regarding changes to Superman characters in My Adventures With Superman:
This MIGHT be hyperbole, I haven’t checked, but there are approximately 10,000 versions of these same characters.
The previous versions of the characters whom one might like still exist, and may do so in multiple forms of media.
Even if My Adventures With Superman maintained previous visual design, these aren’t the same characters.
I don’t say that as an insult.
These are new characters inspired by the Superman template.
As is the case with every version of Superman and pals over the past several decades, these are essentially professionally-made fan characters (again, not meant as an insult).
In this instance, they chose a young adult Superman with fellow scrub reporters Jimmy and Lois. They, and all the other characters, share DNA with previous versions, but are ultimately doing their own thing.
These aren’t the same characters, and they’re not trying to be.
Getting more subjective, I think viewing past stories as templates can be great. This is especially true in a world that insists on brand recognition.
We might want something completely new, but executives don’t, and they provide the funding.
If we’re going to be stuck in a dystopian reboot nightmare, we can at least try and enjoy how varied and creative people can get by viewing previous versions of characters and stories as templates to have fun with, and not just things to copy and paste with minimal variation.

List of Book series that HBO/Max (or any other streaming service) could adapt into a popular show/franchise instead of making another tired reboot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I am aware that there was an Artemis Fowl movie and I have elected to ignore that abomination the same way we ignored the Percy Jackson movies. Maybe a series could redeem it too)

Veggietales fandom on Tumblr being surprisingly quiet about this news… it may be a rumor, but as the Rumor Weed Tumblr Account, it’s my job to spread it 🫡

EDIT: an update
Tumblr media
Well, if it’s happening, Phil isn’t involved in any way, so… yeah 😬 bad choice for a theatrical film of a beloved nostalgic franchise and character. Without the soul, you aren’t reviving it - you’re puppeting a corpse. Viewers can tell the difference.

I really wish they’d make a sequel series or even a movie for Wolfblood about Maddy and Rhydian after they reunited because I miss them and would love to see them again.

I would petition for Walker Scobell to play Stanley in a reboot of "Holes" (2003), if not for the fact that "Holes" (2003) is already a perfect movie that will never ever need a reboot

I can’t get over this video
*Spoiler warning for this clip, so watch it first
Velma on HBO MAX is a show with many faults and seems to actively hate itself and the source material. But if the season finale ended like this. If it had the twist of this video, I would honestly forgive all its flaws, as wild as they are, and highly recommend it as one of the best shows on streaming.
This idea opens up so many avenues to explore while connecting all the Scooby-Doo shows and films in a clever way that puts the show into adult horror, a genre the Velma Show really wanted to be.  Why are the characters so different personality wise? Why do they hate themselves? Why are they all so unlikable? The answer this video gives is that it’s all falling apart on itself. There’s a brewing conscious that wants out and Scooby is trying to desperately keep it buried.
For me, this makes the changes to Velma interesting and almost make sense.  Why is Velma so self absorbed and no longer the smart one of the group? Because she keeps figuring out Scooby is the odd one out and in this version Scoob changed her in hopes that she wouldn’t break the reality.  Why is everyone so hateful? To keep them distracted from the shattered reality. Why is Scooby not in the show? He felt that if he introduced himself later on, maybe it would help ease everyone into his presence. Perhaps if he tried being a regular dog and everything else was outlandish, he could blend in.  But by this time the minds of the characters were already too shattered. It can no longer be contained and the sight of him is now enough to flood Velma with all the times they’ve been reset.
I also love what this says about the constant stream of reboots.  Ideas are rarely allowed to grow. Characters get 3 films or a few seasons and then things are set up from the start.  This poses an idea of what happens when these realities are never allowed to progress and keep getting reset, minds erased. It’s a world begging for MatPat to make a video about. Imagine going through all the Scooby doo shows and films, even games, looking for what’s different. What’s been changed or taken out and why? How did the change in that film, show and game benefit Scooby that time. What was in that reality that he felt he could fix to make the reality stay?
There are also so many possibilities of how this would continue.  Velma season 2 would be a new style completely as Scooby tries to reset things again. It’s perhaps more crude or more detailed and things are missing.  It’s akin to Doki Doki on the second playthrough.  You could also bring in old cast members and live action actors to play memories and other realities. This is a nightmarish multiverse.  And we watch as the gang tries to figure how to reclaim their minds and escape this Eldrich horror who loves them so much. This ultimate fan who will not let them go.
I’m seriously jealous I didn’t think of this! I want to see more and It’s so unfortunate the Velma show didn’t take this turn. To give us a season’s worth of unlikable characters only to end on this note that says so much on reboots, fans, and the relationship companies have with their IP.
It’s brilliant and I had to share this.

ThunderCats 2011 shows us exactly what can be achieved within the ThunderCats '85 framework by expanding on it and retooling it without sacrificing all of the elements that made the original so inexplicably cool. At its core, this is a show about merging high fantasy and science fiction with 80s anime-inspired furries and monsters, creating a strange hybrid mish-mash of stylish alien characters and cultures. Sometimes it's swords and sorcery, sometimes it's laser guns and mech suits. Most of the time it's BOTH, at the same time. No setting or concept is ever off the table in ThunderCats, the same in 2011 as it was back in '85, and it makes for an incredibly cool sandbox of a world to build stories in.
Naturally, [the disappointment] of 2011 is that it spends so much time going from episode to episode that the bigger picture remains unresolved and leaves the show as a whole feeling very unfinished (which it is). But as a counterpoint, that same meandering episodic nature is also perhaps 2011's greatest strength. Not to sound like broken record, but what made '85 so charming for me was its ability to create memorable characters and concepts, even if they only appeared for a single episode, and that is definitely something 2011's writers understood and sought to capitalize on.

The Curse of Danny Phantom
The agony of every Danny Phantom fan is having in mind a cool darker reboot of the show and knowing that Nickelodeon would never greenlight it even if it was sanitized as much as possible.
One of the coolest premises for a superhero ever...cursed to have been made by a Televangelist for the fart joke network, where it remains stuck.
Still excited about the upcoming comic adaptation though.
