dinners almost done

a thunderstorm warning

the smells of almost burnt bacon

our seamless transition to dark

Your anxious steps to the kitchen window

My reassurance that we’re okay, both

Now and always –

The rain starts, a glance exchanged

A soft giggle and more reassurance

That’s my favorite part

A slight shudder from outside

Another peering glance

And hurried scraps from your tools

Dinners almost done

More anxious steps to the couch

An outreached arm with a taste,

a toothsome mouthful

warmed with welcome

seasoned with sentiment and

meticulously brought

Hurried steps again, eyes gleaming

A plate of tenderness and

I am filled from all sides and every corner

Kutengok kesibukanmu,

Tawamu,

Obrolanmu,

Dan riuh lalu lalang penghuni hari-harimu.

Semuanya.

Aku selalu melihat ke arahmu meski kamunya tidak.

Kunikmati dingin yang menusuk kalbu.

Menyesap sampai beku.

Bersama gerimis yang mistis,

Kau menjelma kota yang puitis.

Muara yang dituju segala tetes.

Hilir yang didamba setiap hulu.

Adalah kamu.

Yang membuatku ingin merawat sore,

Merangkum semesta yang Tuhan cipta,

Meringkas asa yang perlahan sirna,

Mengikhtisarkan segala bentuk semoga,

Menjadi keping-keping yang lebih penting,

Yang lebih mungkin dipersunting.

all wax

the light

behind my eyes

is always on, always

burning or drowning

in a pool of its own wax—

true light—

real light—

is made of colors

the sincerest column of white

mine is

made of paper

paper with frayed edges

enough to fool or

full enough with

forced smiles and a

pushed laugh

and all it would take

to blaze
