I would refrain from talking couple-y due to lack of experiences but like ya know, Nico and Leo are sooooo funny as a queer platonic relationship.

I mean, I see Leo as the kind of friend who would kiss your hand dramatically, “My fair prince” and introduce you to his friends as “my platonic husband” and kiss your cheek obnoxiously loud “You know you love me”.

And Nico would probably wipe his hand on his jeans and make a face at the introduction every time. And rolls his eyes with an exasperated “Finally” when Leo immediately dances his way to some pretty girl he has just spotted.

But then when Leo’s insecurities arise and he’s like “No one loves me” then Nico’s just there, deadpanning, “Don’t worry, you still have me as your husband.”

They don’t have to be dating. They can just be obnoxiously gay together. And honestly i enjoy this way more than i should. It’s fluffy, it’s soft, it’s precious and it lights up my soul.

through the dead of winter

Winter is easier when you have people who love you. Leo's body may not be thawing any time soon, but everything else about him is coming back to life, painful as it may be. AKA the Lost Trio Reunion They Deserved Sequel to words frost once wrote words: 13,086

They all end up passing out there, like a little stack of dominoes, with Piper falling against Leo who's leaning on Jason. He doesn't believe that Cal's actually asleep, but he doesn't call her on it as she's curled up on a mound of pillows beside Piper when he wakes up in the morning. 

Piper's still sleeping, but Jason's always been an early riser, and is up. Leo glances over to see him reading one of the letters that didn't make it to camp. 

Leo cranes his head to see which it is. "Ah, Belgium. Nice."

Jason doesn't say anything, just turns toward Leo and wraps him in a very tight embrace. Given his lack of need for oxygen, Leo doesn't have any complaints about the hug. 

Piper has a few though, muttering irritably about being jostled. 

Jason doesn't let Leo go, but they both turn their heads to watch her glare at them with bleary eyes. 

After a moment, her expression softens and she says, "Oh, it wasn't a dream."

Leo feels his chest go soft, wondering if she had dreams like that a lot.

Random pjo/hoo college au Headcanons:

Valdangelo friendship

They buy each other shirts

Meme shirts (from Leo), band tees (from Nico, bought from Thalia) or just random ones with cool patterns (from both)

They can go days without contacting each other and the friendship just picks where it left off

They're both always up at odd hours and those hours are when they hang out the most.

"Dude, I know it's like 2 am, but I really want frozen yoghurt"

"Say no more"

Nico beats Leo at mythomagic all the time, but Leo returns the favor by beating him at checkers or smth, so it's all good

Nico is always sending Leo the most obscure facts he finds

"Hey, did you know that there's a company that turns dead bodies into an ocean reef"

"Nico, wtf?"

Nico can't do math to save his life, so when Leo isn't helping Piper study for her pre-calc exam, then he's helping Nico study for his trig exam.

Almost no one sees them hang out and are so confused as to how they became friends.

There are only three people who have seen them hangout and actually remember it happening. Those three people being: Piper, Bianca and Annabeth

Piper was invited to their late night frozen yoghurt runs on two occasions and doesn't even bat an eye when Leo mentions that Nico is his best friend after her and Jason.

Bianca sits in on their early morning conspiracy documentary binge every once in a while (she's more into alternate history and alien theories than stuff like moth man or bigfoot)

Annabeth is also up at odd hours (people wonder if she actually sleeps), so she runs into them on coffee runs a lot and even joins them for movie mornings sometimes or study sessions.

Anyone else who has seen them hangout during odd hours were either too delirious to understand or just don't remember.

In short, you can find them outside ghost hunting or UFO spotting on any given weekend

I’ve been seeing this thing around about rating pjo ships so i thought I’d give it a go 🤠 no personal offense if i don’t give your ship a high rating, i’m pretty particular except for when I’m not

Percabeth - 9/10. love them loads, but could have gone without the judo flip + other odd behaviors that are only seen as “cute” because the sexes are flipped, otherwise they’re great

Jercy - 1/10. i can see potential i guess but also there’s just a lot of better options for both of these characters imo, plus i see them as bros

Valgrace - 10/10, to storm or fire the world must fall, best friends to lovers, no notes

Solangelo - 2/10. i can see…the potential. their “significant annoyance” scene gave me the warm fuzzies as a 14 year old looking for rep. but oh my god how they’re written in canon sometimes is just so bad, it ruins fanon for me as well. not to mention the one-dimensional-ization done in order to amplify the “grumpy x sunshine !!!1!” trope. however i will say Some solangelo fans understand that they should Both be freaks (and in that AU it’s a respectable 8/10 from me) and the ship has fantastic fan artists

Shelper - 2/10. no hate i’m just bored…like who is shel?? tell me one thing about her personality. does she get any dialogue?? richard??

Jasper/Jiper - 1/10 the fake memories were cute but the inside of pipers head did not pass the Bechdel test. would love to see them as platonic soulmate roommates though

Jeyna - 1/10 the devotion is admirable but yk. can relate being aroace and latching on to some dude lmao

Theyna - 4/10. not my cup of tea but in a world where either they aren’t hunters or it’s an interpretation where the hunters can be lesbians…it’s a good ship. haven’t really seen much for them but I’m open to it. might prefer them as a platonic buddy cop duo though

Pernico - 4/10 i see them as annoying cousins but i respect the angst potential of unrequited love. i don’t think the ship as endgame would be good for either of the characters. however, again, really good fan artists

Jasico - 10/10 the drinking out of the chalice scene was hot don’t look at me. really good fan artists etc. i should write more with them

Valdangelo - 10/10, yk how i feel about pushing my blorbos together and making them kiss lol. massively underrated, read ceaseless eve, etc 

Pipabeth - 7.5/10 i like percabeth more but it’s my favorite piper ship. I haven’t seen much content with them but i’ve liked what i have seen. I might make some stuff with them

Rachbeth - 2/10, the potential is there i guess but i see them as best friends

Perchel - 8.5/10 i guess i’m in the minority but what makes the pjo love triangle so compelling compared to other YA love triangles is that Both of the ships are really good. idk what to tell you they go well together

Lukercy - 6/10 i see the potential but if you’re going for dark fic vibes i think lukabeth is better

Lukabeth - 9/10 the dark fic potential has me chewing the furniture. wouldn’t ship them as like a fluffy endgame but that’s not the point

Frazel - 0/10 richard please let two people of the opposite sex be friends

Caleo - -100000000/10 nothing could be a better crafted anti-caleo fic than canon itself

A snippet of a time travel fix it fic I’m working on:

As Leo cautiously moves to the upper deck, he recalls that Nico had mentioned that he'd been having more nightmares than usual about Jason. 

But his nightmares about Jason didn't normally take place on the Argo anymore. Aside from the stab wound Michael Varus had inflicted and the fucking turtle incident, his memories aboard the ship with his friend were mostly pleasant. 

It was the dreams his mind conjured up at Camp Jupiter and in California that were the trouble. 

He sees sunlight spilling in on the staircase leading to the deck, and the sound of voices, and Leo takes the steps one by one, the voices getting clearer. 

It feels like his heart is expanding too large for his ribcage as he steps into the light, blinking until his vision adjusts and-

There's Jason. 

Jason.

Leo feels his face break into a wild grin, his eyes fill with tears and he launches himself at his lost friend. 

Jason is surprised, catching him but stumbling back a step before regaining his balance. 

"Hey," Jason says, laughter in his voice. "What's with you?"

Leo tightens his arms around Jason's shoulders and murmurs something about a bad dream. 

He hears footsteps approach them and turns his head to find a fifteen-year-old Piper looking at them with a confused smile on her face. 

"Piper!" Leo exclaims, reaching an arm out to pull her into the embrace. She comes willingly, but repeats some version of Jason's earlier question. But he hasn't seen her in person in months, and will take any chance to hug her, even if this is just a dream.  He revels in having his best friends close, feeling them warm and breathing. 

He doesn't know why he was granted such a sweet reprieve from his usual dreams, but he sends a silent thank you to whoever might be listening.

Jason lets out another laugh, and damn, Leo's missed the sound so much, and begins to extract himself from their arms, but Leo doesn't loosen his grip. "Come on, I have to go check the lines."

"Nope," Leo says, pressing his cheek against Jason's shoulder. "It can wait."

He feels Jason's hand run over his arm and hears him say softly, "That must have been one hell of a dream."

"You have no idea," Leo murmurs.

"Is it something we should worry about?" Piper asks. 

Leo shakes his head, because this isn't the time or place to worry about anything. They may just be images his brain created, but he can't bring himself to unload his grief and pain on them when they could have this moment in the sun with each other. 

Besides, he's already been to Jason's memorial and told him so many times how much he misses him. Leo blinks to clear the tears threatening to spill over. 

"Okay," Jason says, not sounding convinced. "But I really should get back to work."

"It doesn't matter," Leo tells him. 

"Leo Valdez, saying that the state of his ship doesn't matter?" Piper asks in mock incredulity. "The world might end, but I wasn't expecting this horseman of the apocalypse."

"Shut up," Leo says, with absolutely no heat in his voice as he bumps her shoulder then pulls her closer. 

Jason pulls away eventually, letting Piper take over the hugging before she too has to get back to work and Leo relents, and watches the two of them, working together, in such vivid detail. His dreams, unless prophetic or traumatic, are never this clear, but he can think about that later. From what Piper has told him, she and Jason's friendship was strained at best when he died. Leo never thought he'd get to see them joking and laughing and easy with each other again. Maybe his mind is giving him what he wants to see most. 

Which doesn't make sense. Maybe he's in some kind of dream prison, designed to make him want to stay, like the one Gaea offered Hazel once. 

He gets more support for this theory when a dark shape comes through the corner of his vision, and it doesn't really matter if this is a trap, because Jesus Christ, there's the younger version of Nico, before his growth spurt when they were still the same height, with his sweetly curling hair and oversized jacket. As if sensing eyes on him, Nico's face turns to Leo, whose own breaks out into a probably stupid looking grin, because this little Nico looks so cute, which he really shouldn't because he's underweight and sleep deprived, but love is blind, isn't it?

Leo bounds down from the helm and over to him, and it's only the frozen expression of confusion and near fear on Nico's face that makes Leo skid to a stop in front of him instead of crashing into him with a hug like he wanted to. 

"Sorry!" Leo exclaims breathlessly. "I forgot you didn't like to be touched."

If possible, Nico's eyes get wider, and they begin to dart around as if he's looking for an escape route. Leo feels a pang of guilt, because dream or not, the last thing Leo wants is to make him uncomfortable. He takes a big step back and raises his hands to show he means no harm. "Sorry, I just got carried away."

Nico stares at him uncomprehendingly. 

Leo takes another step back in the hopes that will help. "Sorry, I just- had a really weird dream?" Leo says, thinking that might work via dream logic, because he is in a dream, and compared to this time in space, reality would seem like a really fucking weird dream. "I think I'm still recalibrating."

Nico's still frozen.

"Shit," Leo sighs, rubbing a hand over his face. "I really am sorry, I will- uh, I'll just sit here, several yards away, and look in a different direction, if that helps."

Leo does as he says, plopping onto the staircase leading to the helm and glancing out at the water. 

After a moment of very pain-stakingly not darting his gaze back to see if Nico's face has regained what little color it normally has, he hears the other boy say, "Okay." very quietly and then the shadow in the corner of his eye gets darker for a moment, a sign that Nico's slipped into it. 

"Not your best call, Valdez," Leo tells himself, rubbing the back of his neck.
