I chose to believe that the reason Leo and Nico barely interacted during Heroes of Olympus is because upon meeting they took one look at each other and simultaneously thought "Oh no, he is just like me fr." and proceeded to avoid each other for the rest of the journey.

Please imagine if TSATS was Valdangelo and the second impulsive ADHD Leo saw the Phlegethon, he just,,, jumped in. Cause he's immune to fire and thinks it'd be a great idea to go for a swim. “Gloomy?” Nico echoes, offended. “I’m not gloomy. You barely know me.”

“Who said I was talking about you?”

There’s a pause before Nico huffs out a laugh, a light and airy sound that distracts Leo so much that he almost forgets what they’re talking about. “Fuck off, Valdez,” Nico says, but he’s smiling. And close. Really close. “Just kiss me already.”
