Reasons why The Weirdest Dream (reprise) from The Lightning Thief musical is an amazing song:

1.) “This is strange. I think I must be dreaming. I’m in some kind of cavern, at least, that’s how it’s seeming. This is...scary.” I looooooove the ominous musical undertone of this section. The mood shift is immaculate and it really makes you want to lean forward from the edge of your seat and capture every detail. I forget the word, but the people in charge of composing, orchestrating, and playing the instrument did such an amazing job. Additionally, I love how the lyrics copy the melody of ‘The Minotaur/The Weirdest Dream’ but the lyrics themselves are different. A reprise, when done correctly, is sooooo gooood!

2.) “The bolt is on its way, my lord. Everything is unfolding as I- as we planned.” “You falter!” I genuinely love this exchange between Luke and Kronos. While we can all agree that Luke made some awful choices, he is also just as vulnerable and afraid as the rest of the demigods we meet. It just puts things into perspective that despite his narrow-minded and murderous nature, he is also a scared demigod who just wants recognition.

3.) “Remember what the gods have done. Remember Thalia.” And Kronos keeping Luke on a leash by throwing Thalia’s death in his face whenever he shows hesitation is something I never knew I needed to hear. Like, we know Luke uses the same trick on Annabeth in The Sea of Monsters, but it never occurred to me that Kronos may have done the same thing to Luke.

4.) “Wait. Someone is here, listening even as he dreams. Hello, Perseus Jackson.” I love how Kronos uses his full name, like he’s addressing this twelve-year-old by his title. And Luke is definitely in the room when Kronos says this, which would make the scene where Luke poisons Percy all the more interesting because Luke was in contact with Kronos even then, so Luke had to have known that Percy would be someone to keep an eye on.

At first, I didn’t want to review this song because it isn’t one of my favorites, but listening to it again made me appreciate it for the amazing song it is. I think this is the first time within the soundtrack, besides ‘Their Sign’ and ‘The Campfire Song’, that we get an insight into Luke’s narrative, and I think that it’s incredibly important. Plus, we get an early Kronos cameo, done correctly, unlike a certain movie. Speaking of which, I suppose I could do commentaries on both movies in the future, now that I think about it lmao
