To love another is no easy feat. It takes patience and trust. Respect and compassion. To be able to wait for someone through a finite storm is an ability not everyone has, nor wants. But you have it. And you’ll wait through any severity of weather, even if there’s no promise of a rainbow at the end.
Hobbling to your room like a battered old woman, you made sure to cover yourself with a cloak you took off a merchant before your arrival. Jesper and Inej observe you skirt around the Crow Club, hugging the side walls before scurrying up to your room. The sharpshooter and wraith share a look before shrugging. They’ll check in on you later and they know better than to annoy a heartrender.
You shrug off your outer clothes and examine your wound through the shredded fabric of your shirt. Some shitbag nailed you right in the torso with a bullet. Luckily, he didn’t hit anywhere vital, but it still hurt, and you’re still bleeding. With a soft grunt you untie your shirt and carefully peel it away from your body. A clean entry wound presents itself at the front of your torso and you’ve no doubt the exit wound looks worse.
With a sigh, you carefully sit down on a chair, grunting lightly when you irritate the injury. Looking down at yourself, you carefully start to weave your tissue and muscles back together, face cringing lightly from the feeling. It didn’t hurt because you were blocking pain receptors, but it felt weird to your other nerves. The squirming and sewing-together of your insides felt equivalent to sliding your hand through a large trough of mucus-covered meat. You wanted to shiver but you couldn’t.
Sewing together your entrance wound took an agonizingly long time. If it was on someone else, you could’ve done it in ten minutes. Perhaps it was due to the fact there’s no rush; you’re safe in the Crow Club (hopefully). The real issue is trying to do the exit wound, which is almost directly behind you. You’ll need mirrors and very flexible shoulders.
Standing and shuffling around your room, you manage to assemble a doable set up--with a standing mirror behind you and a wall mirror in front of you. You adjust both to be able to see your exit wound--which is as gnarly as you thought. You sigh deeply and bring your arms behind your back, attempting twist your wrists so your palms are facing your body. You succeed, but it’s extremely uncomfortable, and you already hurt from being shot.
That’s when you hear it. A strong, steady heartbeat outside your room. No one announces themself--no one knocks--but they’re standing there. You know who it is. You know why they’re there.
“Kaz,” you call out. “People can suffer in silence, you know. You have to see them to know if they’re okay.” A few seconds pass and you know Kaz is thinking. You turn your head to the door when it slowly starts to creak open.
When Kaz opens the door enough to walk into your room, he immediately looks to the side when he sees you in undergarments. You can see him swallow nervously and his heart picks up speed a little.
You look back at your reflection. “You should be coming up with a new plan with Inej and Jesper. I didn’t fail, but I did alarm. And that’ll cause problems.”
“The planning can wait until you’re fixed.”
“I’m already halfway there.” Your wrists and hands flex uncomfortably when you move them, soft grunts leaving you. “I’ll be patched up by the time you’re done.”
Kaz sneaks a glance at you, eyes lingering on the wound you’re trying to patch up. Then his gaze moves to your arms and hands, which are in a specific position that makes you look like a demon’s possessed you. You’re succeeding; he can see your wound being manipulated and the hole getting smaller, but you’re struggling. Swallowing, he takes an unsteady step forward until he finds himself traipsing over to you.
You pause your heartrending when you see his reflection standing behind yours. You blink, then slowly turn your head to look at him. “What? You can’t help with this.”
He’s struggling to keep your gaze as it switches between your eyes and down at your arms. Picking up his cane to hold between his arm and side, he slowly reaches out to gently press his gloved hands against your arms.
Your brows scrunch when you’re trying to figure out what he’s doing. He’s not grabbing your arms, rather he’s supporting them. He’s taking tension from your shoulders.
You turn your head back around and continue to heartrend yourself, having an easier time than before. You’re painfully aware of his close proximity to you--you’re insanely aware of his physical contact as well. You can feel him shaking and you can hear his heart racing.
“You don’t have to do this,” you say quietly. “Your heart is racing. Please move away if you’re uncomfortable.”
“I’m fine,” his response is slightly forced and shaky. “Stop listening to my heart and focus on fixing yourself.”
You sigh softly and try your best to fix yourself as fast as you can. You cringe lightly when you reach a particularly painful part of your body where you didn’t block the pain receptors. You let out a strained grunt in response and you can see Kaz’s eyes look at you in concern from the mirror.
“I’m fine,” you quickly say. “It just hurt a little. I’m almost done.”
Kaz nods and looks back down at your hands and back, silent.
You’re done in two minutes and as soon as you are, you move away from him to keep him from being uncomfortable. You turn to him and smile softly. “You didn’t need to do that. I would’ve managed.”
Kaz places his cane back on the floor and leans on it. “You got done faster though, didn’t you?”
You stare at him for a moment before nodding. “I suppose I did. Thank you.”
Kaz attempts a small smile, but it’s almost indiscernible--it looks like a weird wince. “We meet at the bar in ten.” He turns and walks to the door. “Jesper and Inej are wondering if you’re okay.”
“Tell them I’m fine and I’ll be down in five.”
Kaz nods, not turning to look at you. He closes the door on his way out and you can hear his heartbeat move farther and farther from your room.
You notice how it’s faster than before.
You notice how yours is faster than his.
Ah, yes. To love Kaz Brekker is no easy feat.

So, it’s pretty well understood or accepted that sometimes traveling through hyperspace takes hours, perhaps even a few days, to do. Hopping around the Outer Rim isn’t nearly as quick as the briefs may imply. That’s a lot of time to pass, and especially for a group like the Batch who had their finite space on the Marauder to call home, entertainment options were limited.
Hence how the crack vision of the Batch executing a D&D campaign has warped into my brain. Tech tried to be DM the first time, but his campaign became so intricate and complicated that even he had a hard time keeping track of it, so it was actually Wrecker who took the DM reins next. His carefree attitude and large imagination laid the groundwork for some outlandish scenarios, and he loved watching his brothers completely clock out of soldier-mode and let their minds run free.
Hunter was a ranger (of course), Tech was a paladin because he liked the challenge of keeping his oath while navigating Crosshair’s his brothers’ antics, Crosshair was a sorcerer with an affinity for lightning magic, and once Echo joined, that sweet thing was a cleric.

In a flying city, a city of crowns, of skies, of ambitions, of dreams, of visions of other planes (outer, upper, celestial ones), of ascending, of rising, of striving, of being above, superior, better than, of bigger, better, more—Cerrit's shortcoming is that he did not strive big enough. He never looked up, in all senses of that phrase.
He didn't look up toward more difficult targets, didn't look up from his work to see his children. He never strove to go after those the city protected, never ambitious enough to go for bigger names, never desired to reach beyond resources and limits. Never was ambitious, never too striving, never dreamed too big, never too full of questions.
Too aware of limits, of finite resources, of not enough time, of too difficult, of beyond him, of beyond scope, of not achievable enough. He did not strive enough, was not full of enough ambition, did not dare enough to be greater than and beyond, did not grasp enough at the potential of it all. He fears he is not enough, and thus he fell short because he never grasped further than his reach. He did not do enough, he did not wonder enough, he did not ask enough questions. He did not believe he could have it all at once and instead felt he must concede and sacrifice and settle instead of just trying and achieving and having.
A man who can soar, who is capable of truly impossible feats of perception and deduction and reason and insight, forgot how truly expansive the horizons of possibility truly are.
His mistake is that he is too grounded, too rooted in his limits. He suffers from an overabundance of restraint in a city where everyone lacks it, of not doing enough in a place where everyone does too much, of not being active enough in a city that needed to pause. Reactive—and there's a joke about the Mage Slayer feat to make here—but not pro-active. He is so afraid of hubris and arrogance that he kept his head down and never looked up at the sky and felt all big things, knew that great workings were possible—if only he dared believe he could, mortal limits be damned.
And he does eventually dare, learns to reach for impossible before its too late, and he does get it all, and he proves that he is indeed enough. But, that's already all in another post.
Just as too much of anything is ruinous, so is too little. "It's important to dream," Nydas says, and he's right. Cerrit's greatest mistake is that, with everything, he set his sights too low.

I had this idea. My brain initially framed it as something for a tabletop RPG like D&D. It might really be the pitch for a romcom manga.
A wizard summons up a sexy inherently evil being from the outer planes (in D&D a Succubus Demon or Erinyes Devil), but instead of sleeping with her or sending her on a finite mission to seduce and then smite a hero; the wizard makes her his long term admin assistant in his wizard tower at a desk right outside his personal study.
There's standard sitcom unresolved sexual tension between them and banter.
There could either be or not be an underlying metaphysical rule that will send her back to her home plane if they do consummate the relationship.
"my secretary is a demonette" is 100% a romcom manga plot, holy hell
if anything that may be the title

[Find other stories from the 2024 Friday Writing Challenge here]
“What do you want to see most in the world?”
She looked up to the skies. They were filled with stars, shining distant and bright, dancing alongside waves of lights that graced the atmosphere above their heads. You could not see them that easily back home, even if the home itself was remote and the skies were a deep dark that allowed the mysticism of the cosmos to unravel above you – tendrils exploding in a canvas of deep golds and bright greens. Aurora borealis, was it not? She never paid enough attention at school.
She sat by him next to the tall grass, a rushing river just below their feet, and the bridge just a few klicks away. It was not a long walk to the village, but a longer one to the rooftop of his place. And even longer to the next town over. There was a bus station there. Well, there were in fact two but only one mattered. That one had an old man stationed, grumpy as they come, perpetually stuck at least three days from retirement since she met him on his first day at work seven years ago. He would stare at the calendar and mark the days the charter busses would come about, the ones that went out of Isorropa and into the greater territory. Benefits of living near the border – it held more opportunities for escaping its clutches.
She did escape once. It was during one of the field trips with her own mother. They were as close as they come, her upbringing by a travelling saleswoman, crafting jewelry and cutlery, and pretty little golden trinkets, instilling the sense of wander she felt for this world. And on that day she got lost, she wandered all the way to the city centre, and she saw a cosmodrome with her own two eyes. A slingshot to outer space. A gateway. She tuned everything away, just sitting by idly, watching chemtrails pierce the skies, leaving her behind. Her mother was not very happy about leaving her behind either.
She soon found out all things shined just about the same to the people outside; they were the ones that could pay for pieces of art they saw fittingly exotic and mystical, all whilst unable to tell a keyring chain that joined and showcased familial love to an engraved earring that indicated lustful passion. This one symbolized love and had to be worn on the left ear, that one with the chain was about family and you both had to wear it. Times were not tougher than usual, and you could always use a little shine in your life. Now, come along, come along now dear sir, dear madam! Do not cheapen out!
They always cheapened out.
Her village by the border had its own problems; too many fields to tend, not enough hands to work them. But gold shined as both a mineral and a grain, and their fields stood tall next to the grass. A dance of gold and green, not much unlike the stars she observed above her head. Unlike them, these fields were finite. She could count them, and not lose track. The border never shrunk. It never moved. More of those gentle giants outside would trickle in as the years passed her by. It was said to not be easy to live in those big cities of the towns beyond, but when you see the pretty dresses, the fancy cars, the wide roads with tarmac and brick, and the tall buildings, it does leave you wondering what kind of problems led them away. And they, bulky and large as they come, had tender hands that the fields welcomed.
A family of theirs moved close enough by. His rooftop stood next to an old tall tree, same one her mother used to climb as a kid, and it overlooked the entire valley. It was not big by any of the means that came to indicate wealth or status – it was just an abandoned old oak that could have used the renovation. They did become friends, and she did offer him an earring – a token of their friendship – and she would come visit often, late at nights when the lights were out below, and the lights were out above. They would sit on plastic molded chairs, their backs laying across with an endless sight to behold and a kettle of tea brewing; a more then perfect companion for discussions of existence, passion, understanding, identity. They would discuss the universe frequently, it laying so effortlessly overhead. He appreciated its beauty, but it was too big for him. Too vast. Too chaotic. Datrakan, his home, his planet, was enough. Maybe she could be enough too.
She thought otherwise.
She stared back down now, looking at her own two feet, firmly planted in the soft soil, whose colour now they matched. Her arms, blackening similarly as you would go about lower and lower from the collarbone to the fingertip, shimmered by the moonlight, as did the waters in front of her eyes. Both reflected a fate she could not deny.
She turned to look back at him.
“More.”

Me and my friend (@saintgabe)have been thinking about the differences between humans and weapons and you guys know me I overthink so now we’ve got some speculative biology here my magnum opus is my witch biology which one day I will be brave enough to post (once me and my friend finish the infographics) anyways. This is a long one so strap in
The major difference in their bodies is weapons being built to specifically digest souls. The things that weapons have really held onto is having sharp teeth and chambered stomachs. The teeth are used to puncture the outer layer of the soul to get to the liquid inside. Their sharp teeth will come in with the loss of their baby teeth. Their chambered stomachs are similar to some herbivores, and have specific parts being targeted directly for absorbing as much nutrients and energy from the soul as possible. Ancient weapons used to be able to survive off of souls alone, but modern weapons due to symbiosis and making offspring with humans have lost this ability, instead only able to absorb finite nutrients and magic from souls. A human eating souls would be unable to gain any real benefits. In fact, there are many detriments, the big one being developing into a kishin egg. In fact, as a human consumes more and more souls, their body will start to undergo a rapid adaptation in order to consume them easier, developing weapon traits. This is a painful and exhausting process, but the excess of magic contained in a soul is enough to force the change, especially when reacting with the madness in a human body. A modern weapon needs to supplement their diet with normal food, but they often have a proclivity for meat, and are able to digest it raw. It is unknown specifically when or why this happened, but the most commonly accepted theory is that souls were such a small thing inside a person that it would lead the weapon to lose more than it gained, so their bodies allowed them to digest the rest of what they needed. Weapons still contain more magic than humans naturally, but less than witches. It is theorized that weapons evolved in the first place to hunt witches, their souls containing the high amounts of magic energy a weapon would use for their transformation.
Weapons did not always look like humans. Originally they were more like how Excalibur and Ragnarok look. As they began to spend more and more time with humans, the weapons that had humanoid features became more successful, some even reproducing with said humans. This continued on until all weapons today are at least partially human. Two human parents can make a weapon because it is entirely possible for a recessive weapon gene to be in their dna. Two weapons parents are able to produce a human because of the same reason. No ‘true’ weapons exist anymore in the way that they used to be. It’s like there are no more wolves, just wolfdogs and domestic dogs. This brings me into the topic of show weapons, one of the most common types of weapons today. Almost every modern weapon has some ‘show’ trait, whether that be flashy patterns or intricate symbols. As weapons and humans came to interact more, humans wanted more noticeable weapons, and as almost a form of natural selection, weapons with these traits became more successful and more likely to pass these desirable traits on. These traits come with side effects, as their human forms also may exhibit ‘show’ traits, such as bright hair, unnatural eyes, or overly sharp teeth even for a weapon. This can lead to issues such as poor vision, trouble speaking, etc. Some families of humans had paired with weapon families through generations, some even selecting certain traits to be passed down to try and ‘breed’ more powerful or impressive weapons. There were a lot of sociopolitical implications of this but this is biology class so I’m not gonna get into it you can figure it out or maybe I’ll talk about it later
As a subset of this, some weapon lines have become specialized in specific magic, such as Marie’s lighting and healing wavelength and Azusa’s clairvoyance. Any weapon can have specialized magic, but older lines have developed it much further than newer weapon lines. It’s not very common though, and isn’t something that’s being really looked at, but can be a bonus for a lucky meister. Weapons with more ‘show’ traits aren’t as sought after as fighting partners, as oftentimes they’re considered more symbolic than actually powerful. Dwma weapons, though, are mostly picked for their ability to perform resonance, rather than physical traits.
Some subsections of weapons refuse to interact with humans, forming sects or cults. Not much is known about them, but a major one worships Vajra and is known to ransack villages to try and further their unknown goals. The people in groups such as this often have vestigial weapon traits due to lack of interaction and reproduction with humans. Many of these weapons are more ‘simple’ tools, such as blades or blunt objects, like their early ancestors. More complicated weapons such as guns evolved later, but it is unknown exactly when they started popping up and why. Early on, Star Clan was mistaken for a rogue weapon group, but it was discovered a majority of them were human.
Humans have also adapted some traits to better fit their weapon partners, such as many meisters having a nictitating membrane that allows them to see souls. It’s theorized that weapons used to have these as well, but as they integrated with humans more and more, it became no longer necessary and was lost. Rarely a weapon can be born with this, like a human being born with a tail.
There are some behavioral differences as well, but this post is already long as shit so I’ll do another one for that some time anyways hope u guys enjoyed we worked hard on this and it was a lot of fun :3

True Death, the Crucible, and how Marika fucked up big time
In a world were life essence is a finite resource, a True Death require two things : complete destruction of the Old, and transformation of the destroyed matter to make something truely new.
This is what a Crucible is used for : extreme heat allow breaking down of ore into their base components, who can then be treated and refined. Alchemicaly, this means the pure metals (gold, silver, copper) are separated from crude materials to express their full potential. So, to attain true purity, true corruption must first be accomplished. The Alchemist call this the Nigredo, or darker than black, also named the raven, rot, or the Shadow of the Philosopher stone.
In Elden Ring, this primordial Law of existence is fully contained in the Crucible. The Era of the Crucible was an era of chaos and violence, but also floroushing life and metalorphosis. It was both the Era of Birth and of Death. Marika, by sealing Death, also ended up stopping the flow of life, and of Birth.
The rune of Death is the prime comportement of the Crucible, because it is composed of it's two part, the breaking down of things, and the transformation of raw materials. This is fully illustrated by the state of the corpses of Ranni and Godwyn, who both suffered half of Death.
Ranni suffered the half the break things down. Or, in other word, the Flame. Her body is completely burned and empty. It is in noway a living being, but it vaguely kept its old shape because the half Death of Ranni had no transformation.
Godwyn suffered the half that transform raw materials. His soul was completely destroyed in the process, but his body is thriving, transformed into a completely new being. However, because his half Death didn't break down his components, I can't be free of his flesh and is stuck in the Nigredo : existing only as rot and corruption and Shadow, unable to transcend it.
By sealing the Principl of Death of the Crucible, Marika stopped all life from changing : the dead couldn't be freed by rot, and new being couldn't be born.
The Crucible, and it's ability to transform life into raw matter into new life, exist in all creatures, in the form of two organs : the stomach and the womb.
This means the seal of Marika on Death deprived all inhabitant of the Lands Between of these two organs.
For the womb : no one has been born for a long time. The turtleneck used to be eaten as an aphrodisiac, but no one care about this anymore. The bat women lament the loss of their ability to give birth.
For the stomach : everyone is malnourished. Humans and beasts alike are terrifyingly thin. A ravenous hunger animate them. Humans resort to cannibalism, and the dogs and raven turn monstrous from hunger.
No matter how much they eat, they can't be fed, because it has become impossible to assimilate another life. Souls are perpetually stuck in their body even After being digested. The golden excrements are warm and don't smell because there still is a human soul in it.
The Erdtree Roots are bloated with the corpses they couldn't assimilate. The mixture of ulcerated wood and mass of human flesh is rampaging, trying to end it's existence.
The only way to eat or reproduce is via the influence of an outer god, forbidden by the Golden order because they come from the Crucible. Rotten Radahn stay alive by eating corpses. Scarlet rot destroys all and gives birth to many children. The snakemen are all the Offspring of Rykard, who want to devour the Gods.
Marika knew the links between the belly and the Crucible, that is why so many of her non human citoyens, like the trolls, have been gutted. To be accepted in the golden order they had to get rid of all link to the old order.
But now the Land's between are completely rancid, and Marika couldn't do anything to changing because of the very Order she created. So she destroyed this Order, the Elden Ring, and conspired so it could only be reforged by bringing to it the rune of Death, so her mistake could be corrected.

It's not a concert tour, if you were skeptical. It's one which will lead them to know the colors of diversity, colors of spicy street food and colors of a country with millions of adventures.

A Space Outlaws primer for My Reality, Yours: what you need to know
Read My Reality, Yours here
Hi everyone! My most recent fic My Reality, Yours is set within my Space Outlaws Hermitcraft AU, which has a lot going on: weird terms, Hermit lore, wacky sci-fi, and more. To help make the fic (and the AU in general) easier to jump into, here's a list of in-universe things to know! This post is currently spoiler free.
I'm most likely going to update this multiple times as I publish more chapters of the fic. If there's something in the fic you don't understand, let me know and I can add an explanation here! Conversely, if there's something here that you want to learn more about, I will happily elaborate in an ask or dm :D
My Reality, Yours hub
The Space Outlaws AU hub
Character backgrounds and lore
Non-MRY-specific character trivia
General AU ideas (Spoiler free!)
Admin: The leader of a political group of any size.
Common: The Universal standard for spoken language. Many people either speak Common as their native language or learn it as their second. As most things in intergalactic settings are communicated in Common, it is recommended for individuals who travel away from their home civilization to know at least a rudimentary amount of the language.
Comms: Short for communications. Comms are the technological devices people use to speak to each other, whether it be by audio, video, or text. Comm units are mandatory for all air-and-spacecraft. Most people carry a comms unit with them — all of the Hermits have comm units installed in the gauntlets of their space suits.
Dimensions: The Universe is split into three Dimensions: the Nether, the Overworld, and the End. These Dimensions are relatively the same size and lay on top of each other without overlapping. The Overworld is like our real-life universe (lots of outer space with galaxies scattered throughout), while the Nether and End are inspired by Minecraft (seemingly endless generations of their respective environments, though with much more biome/region variation). At the very outskirts of each Dimension, the exterior edges gradually trail off into Void.
Galactic: An alphabet used by countless languages across all three Dimensions. Common's written form uses Galactic, which makes Galactic the Universal standard for written language. Many people either use Galactic as their native alphabet or learn it as their second. As most things in intergalactic settings are written in Galactic, it is recommended for individuals who travel away from their home civilization to know how to read and write it at the basic level.
The Hermits: A legendary group of interdimensional outlaws. The Hermits are one of the longest (if not the longest) established independent political organizations in the Universe. They’re lauded for their range of positive influence despite their miniscule numbers — over the course of millions of years, the Hermts’ ranks have almost never exceeded fifty individuals at once, yet the group has majorly impacted countless civilizations from all three Dimensions. Because of this influence, the Hermits and its members are considered household names. The Hermit Trading Card Game is one of the most popular interdimensional games on the market, which several of the current 26 Hermits consider to be one of their biggest achievements in life.
The Hermit Craft: Xisumavoid’s spaceship and home base for the Hermits. The Craft is a massive outer-space-only ship that can easily accommodate hundreds of thousands of people. No one knows how it was constructed or where its ultra-advanced technology came from. The Craft is fully self-sustaining and includes areas like the bridge, archives, kitchens, greenhouses, the engine bay, hangars, machine bays, labs, personal quarters, and more.
Rifts: Portals that connect one Dimension to another. Rifts are the only way to travel between Dimensions. There’s a finite number of Rifts in the Universe so civilizations tend to cluster near them, making them important trading routes and cultural hubs. They vary wildly in size, shape, and color, so many of the most well-trafficked Rifts are given unique names by the locals. The larger and more important Rifts often have a dedicated space station manned by Rift Guards to help organize the flow of traffic.
Space suits/space armor: Interchangeable names for the highly advanced suits the Hermits and other space-faring individuals wear. These suits can vary wildly in appearance and function, but they’re all designed to withstand extreme situations — from the vacuum of empty space to intense combat. Many of the Hermits obtained their suits before joining the Hermits group, which is why almost none of them match visually.
Void: True nothingness, where nothing can survive. The Void is completely barren of everything (down to even the smallest particles) and therefore is impossible to inhabit or explore. “Void” is often included in swears and other exclamations. For example, “good Void” is a common exclamation of surprise, frustration, anger, etc.

ISLAM 101: Spirituality in Islam: Part 209
God and the Truth of Divinity
The sacred term Allah (God), which is also referred to as the Word of Majesty or the All-Supreme Name in the sense that it is the Chief Divine Name comprising all other Names, is the proper Name of the All-Majestic, All-High Divine Being, Who introduces Himself to us with His All-Beautiful Names and draws a frame in our minds with all His Attributes of Glory so that we may have knowledge of Him; He is the All-Sacred One called by all His Names and the All-Glorified One described by all His Attributes of Perfection, and it is He Who is the sole, peerless Sovereign on the Thrones of Divinity and Lordship. As also stated by Sayyid Sharif al- Jurjani,[1] the all-blessed word of God is the proper Name of the Divine Essence as God, (from the viewpoint of His absolute Uniqueness and His total detachment from the created). According to the scholars of the basic principles of the Religion and the religious methodology, Allah (God) is a proper Name particular to the Divine Essence exclusively. Known also as the Name of Majesty and the All-Supreme or Greatest Name, this all-blessed Word is particularly mentioned as the Greatest or All-Supreme Name.
All the other Names belonging to the Divine Being are descriptive names or the names or titles that function like attributes, while the word Allah (God) is the Name of His Essence (Dhat), and comprises all the other Names directly or indirectly. That is to say, if a person declares their belief with the expressions such as “There is no deity but the All-Holy and All-Pure,” or “There is no deity but the All-Compassionate,” or “There is no deity but the All-Glorious with irresistible might,” and so on, they have not declared their belief properly, as none of these Names wholly designate the Divine Being, Who is known by all His Names and recognized by all His Attributes. One who declares their belief only with such expressions knowingly or unknowingly attempts to restrict the infinite sphere of Divinity and Lordship to the areas of the manifestations of the Names the All-Holy and All-Pure or the All-Compassionate or the All-Glorious with irresistible might, thus trying to make the infinite finite or the all-encompassing encompassed in one respect.
The All-Majestic, All-High Being Who is called by the all-sacred Name God[2] is the unique source of the truths of humanity, the universe, and things, and their ultimate, unique origin and ultimate, unique, primary cause. He is the Necessarily Existent Being Who exists by Himself. All our studies of the outer and our inner worlds demonstrate this fact. There is not a single thing in the universe that does not have multiple indications of the All-Sacred One Who is called by the Name of Glory, God. It can be said that the All-Sacred Name God exists inscribed both on the face of every thing and being and on the visage of the universe as a whole. However, this truth is more manifest and more clearly eligible in the physical and metaphysical face of humanity. As Imam ‘ Ali[3] said, a human being does not comprise a small, physical body; a human being is the miniature, the most precious copy of the whole universe; the human contains the entire contents of the universe and bears witness to the Divine Being as loudly as the entire universe. With all our states, we human beings demonstrate the All- Initiating; with all aspects of our lives we exclaim that we are dependent on Him. With the outer and inner dimensions of our existence, we proclaim Him.
It is utterly unreasonable, contrary to the perceptible reality, and an unfortunate deception in the name of a scientific approach not to attribute existence, including humanity and the universe, to the Divine Being. Any existence which is not attributed to the Divine Being is groundless, meaningless, and void; any knowledge or sciences that are not connected to Him are mere delusions and illusions, any studies or analyses that do not lead to knowledge of Him are fruitless and in vain, and discussions or conversations that do not generate love of and closeness to Him in the human consciousness are useless.
It is a fact that all existent things tell us about Him with countless tongues and that the human conscience always reminds of Him with profound sensations, perceptions, and inclinations particular to it. Whenever with our physical or spiritual sensations we turn to this world of exhibition—the outer world, this book of existence, and our inner depths, we always listen to melodies about Him and are aware that we subsist by Him. God is an All-Transcendent, Peerless Existent One Who expresses Himself with everything He creates and Who makes His existence felt through our consciousness with countless tongues, and thus reminds us that He is ever present everywhere, despite His absolute freedom from time and space. All visible and invisible realms of existence loudly proclaim His Divinity and Lordship, telling us that He is worshipped because of His Being. God has absolute right to be worshipped and is rightfully besought due to His being God. For this reason, worshipping Him with praise, thank, exaltation, adoration, glorification, and devotion is our duty and His right.
As for the false deities which humans manufacture and worship, they can never be God or be substituted for Him. Humans have deified the sun, the moon, stars, seas, rivers and so on, and worshipped many false, artificial, fabricated deities, adoring thousands of fleeting, death-bound and essentially impotent things or beings. By following these and offering worship to them, human beings have actually disrespected their own selves, their spirits and their essential nature. When they have rejected them all and turned to the Absolute, True Worshipped One, they have been saved from being debased beings and discovered their own selves through the values God has bestowed on them.
Since whatever human beings have worshipped other than God has no existence by itself and owes its own existence to God, it has emerged as the product of misguided thought and has in turn disappeared with sound logic and reasoning. Misguided thought and false belief, which have appeared one after the other, have also disappeared and been forgotten one after the other, and the final say has always remained with the All-Sacred Being, Who is absolutely free from any phenomenon that can be attributed to the created, such as coming and going or appearance and disappearance. Even though some false deities have temporarily dominated the minds of a great many people and polluted them over the course of history, the human innate recognition and admission of the Creator, the True Worshipped One, which is regarded as the inherent riches and depths of human conscience, has driven away all products of illusions and delusions; as a result human beings have turned to the All-Majestic, All-High Being, Who is the Owner of the All-Beautiful Names and All-Exalted Attributes. They have turned to Him once more after every epoch of misguidance because there is no other source of power or riches that can support or satisfy the human consciousness other than Him. Anything or any being which cannot meet this great, intrinsic need of humanity can never be deserving of worship and cannot be a deity. And there is no question that such a being is not deserving of worship, which is absolutely due to the All-Sacred One called by the All-Beautiful Names and described by the All-Sacred Attributes; indeed, they cannot even be intercessors between Him and humans.
Neither Divinity nor Lordship ever admits a partner. The One Who has the absolute right to be worshipped is One and Unique. The different events, states, and circumstances that we observe are results of the different manifestations of God’s different Names and Attributes. The truth of the absolutely True One or the Ultimate Truth is free from whatever is related to quality or quantity. Moreover, He is neither a substance nor something accidental, but is absolutely free from all features and defects that are particular to corporeality. In the following poem in which he portrayed the creeds of Islam, the respected Ibrahim Haqqi of Erzurum expresses this point very beautifully:
There is no opposite, nor peer, of my Lord in the universe; He is the All-Transcendent and exempt from having a form. He has no partners and He is free from begetting and being begotten; He is Unique, having no equals— these He mentions in Suratu’l-Ikhlas. He is neither a body nor a substance, nor is He an accident,[4] nor of matter. He does not eat and drink, nor is He contained by time. He is absolutely free from change, alteration, and transformation, and from colors and having a shape as well— These are His Attributes in the negative. He is neither in the heavens nor on the earth; Neither on the right nor on the left; neither before nor after; He is absolutely free from any direction. So He is never contained in space. As the respected Ibrahim Haqqi says, God is neither a body nor a substance; nor is He a compound or a composite, a divisible being, or a part, nor does He have a form or shape or any other feature that is attributed to the created. He is the First, the Last, the All-Outward and the All-Inward—He is the All-Inward, more inward than anything inward in His manifestations, and the All-Outward, more outward than anything outward in His being hidden. As He has no physical contact with anything in His Acts, He is also exempt from having or using any instruments in pronouncing His will or decrees.
We know Him by His hundreds of Names, such as the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate, the All-Unique of Absolute Oneness, the Eternally Besought One, the All-Independent Single One, The All-Living, the Self-Subsisting (by Whom all subsist), the Eternally Existing One with no beginning, the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the All-Glorious with irresistible might, the All-Compelling, the All-Gracious and All-Beautiful, the All-Majestic, the All-Great, the All-Generous, the All-Pitying, the One Who has exclusive right to all greatness, the Divine Being, the Master, the Sovereign, the Lord, the All-Wise, the All-Speaking, the Creator, the All-Providing, and so on; we know Him by his dozens of Attributes, such as Life, Knowledge, Hearing, Seeing, Will, Power, Glory, Wisdom, Grandeur, Compelling, Being Eternally Existent with no beginning, Speech and so on. However, we can never claim that We know or that we are able to know Him perfectly; rather we must sigh with the admission: “We have not been able to know You as knowing You requires, O the All-Known,” and seek refuge with the consideration: “(The admission of one’s) incapacity to perceive Him is perception itself.” God cannot be perceived or comprehended for He is the All-Encompassing One impossible to be comprehended. Therefore, claiming that He can be comprehended means claiming that the One Who is the All-Encompassing can be encompassed at the same time, which is clearly a contradiction. Furthermore, all the Names that are derived from certain verbs which express His Acts are not sufficient, individually or collectively, for us to be able to perceive His Essence. Logic and reason can attain knowledge of the Maker of Glory in the shade of the All-Beautiful Names only to the extent that He wills and allows this. This is all of the knowledge we can acquire concerning Him. How well the famous German poet said:
Whatever we say about Him, perception of the Essence of the All-Holy Creator is absolutely impossible. Human beings can only have some ambiguous feelings and conjectural ideas about the Divine Essence. We continuously feel and experience the existence of God both in our spirits and in nature. Therefore, what does it signify whether we know His Essence or Essential Nature or not? Even though we mention God with hundreds of Names and unique Attributes, our descriptions will fall far short of expressing the truth. Seeing that the Supreme Existence, Which we call Divinity, expresses Itself in multifarious manifestations —not only in human beings but also in all major and minor events and states in the universe and the rich, restricted bosom of nature—then to what extent can human description of such a Being be sufficient?
We must be utterly respectful of Him and self-possessed on our account. This must be the reason why both the greatest of theologians and many Sufis have preferred mentioning God with the pronoun “He.” For there is limitless profundity and comprehensiveness when one avoids describing Him with any Attribute or Name. The pronoun “He,” free from the restriction of any specific Attribute or Name, is a mysterious word which comprises all of His Majestic and Gracious manifestations, His All-Beautiful Names, and His Attributes of Glory. It must be because of this comprehensiveness that, provided we refer to Him by the word “He”, there are those who regard “He” as being God’s All-Supreme Name. I think it is more proper to regard it as the All-Supreme Name in expressing His Unity in the fullest terms possible.
When we consider the Divine Being from the viewpoint of His Uniqueness or absolute Oneness (ahadiya), we mean or refer to the Pure Essence without taking His Names or Attributes into consideration. When He is approached from the perspective of His Unity (wahidiya), He is considered together with His All-Beautiful Names and Attributes of Glory. At this point, human consciousness considers God along with all His works, Acts, Names, and Attributes; this means sensing the sphere of His Lordship.
Calling the rank of the truths of True Existence the sphere of Divinity is because this expression refers to the Necessarily Existent One as the All-Holy, Pure Essence. The All-Supreme Name Allah (God) is the proper title for this rank. Divinity in this sense is the title of a transcending truth that is observed on account of Its works and which is known but cannot be encompassed with Its decrees, judgments and principles. Our knowledge and perceptions concerning Divinity consist only of some of Its characteristics. This knowledge is never sufficient to attain complete knowledge of this sphere, for there are so many other exalted Attributes about Which we cannot have knowledge; complete knowledge and comprehension of Divinity requires knowing all of these Attributes and this is not possible for human beings to achieve.
From another point of view, on account of the vastness of Its manifestations, Divinity also encompasses the decrees, judgments and principles of the areas of manifestations that belong to the spheres of Divine Uniqueness or Oneness and Unity, in the sense that every thing or being is given its due. Just as all universal or particular bounties and favors pour forth from that sphere, so too are all thanks given and all acts of worship done in return for those bounties and favors directed to it.
Furthermore, Divine Uniqueness and Unity have another aspect which is related to the All-Holy, Purely Divine Essence. On account of Its mirror in which It is reflected, Divine Uniqueness or absolute Oneness has been expressed as: “God was and there was nothing else besides Him,”[5] while Divine Unity has been interpreted in the sense of Everything is perishable (and so perishing) except His “Face.” His alone is judgment and authority, and to Him you are being brought back (28:88). While the former refers to God as eternal having no beginning, the latter refers to Him as eternal having no end. According to this approach, since the rank of Uniqueness relates to the Pure Essence, this Uniqueness has been accepted as having precedence over the rank of Unity, Which is considered together with the Names and Attributes. As for Divinity, It has precedence over both Uniqueness or Oneness and Unity, for It has the transcending characteristic of giving everything its due and restoring every right in the vastness of all realms of contingency, and the rank of All-Mercifulness (ar-Rahmaniyya), which is regarded as the horizon of the initial manifestation of all Divine Names and Attributes, has been considered as Its area of unfolding. The proper title of this rank is the All-Sacred Name the All-Merciful (ar-Rahman), to Which are referred the Names of the Divine Essence such as the All-Unique of Absolute Oneness, the One of Unity, the Eternally Besought One, the All-Holy, and the All-Supreme, as well as such Attributes of His like Life, Knowledge, Hearing, Seeing, Power, and Will.
The rank which encompasses God Almighty’s Names, Attributes of Glory, and wise Acts has been called the sphere of Divinity on account that He is—and is accepted as—the Divine Being Who is Absolutely Deserving of Worship, while the rank which relates to the Name the Lord and draws attention to His being— and being accepted and obeyed as—the Lord has been designated as the sphere of Lordship. The statements of the Qur’an concerning both of these spheres are explicit and decisive. The Qur’an tells us to believe in God as both the One of Divinity and the One of Lordship. For example, on account of describing God Almighty with His Attributes of Perfection that are inherent in His Essence and declaring Him to be absolutely free from any attributes of defect, Suratu’l-Ikhlas (Sura 112) emphasizes the Unity of Divinity or God’s being the Unique One of Divinity. While Suratu’l-Kafirun (Sura109) pronounces that worship and adoration are particular to God exclusively, Who has no partners, rivals, or equals, and therefore emphasizes the Unity of God as the All-Worshipped One. Suratu’l-Fatiha (Sura 1) teaches and stresses both the Unity of Divinity and the Unity of God’s being the All-Worshipped One and the Unity of Lordship.
If the Qur’an is studied from these aspects, it can be seen that in almost all of its chapters it teaches and emphasizes these kinds of Unity. The verses which tell us about the Names, Attributes, and Acts of God Almighty point to the “ Unity of the Source of revealed knowledge” or the “ Unity of Divinity,” while the verses that are concerned with worshipping God Who has no partners, rivals, or equals refers to the “ Unity Which demands worship and relates to will-power” or the “ Unity of Lordship.” The Unity of Divinity has also been interpreted as the confirmation and conviction that whatever our Prophet taught and conveyed to us is true, while the Unity of Lordship means the fulfilling of all Divine commands with the utmost sensitivity and refraining from whatever has been forbidden.
That which we have been trying to explain from the beginning consists of only some pieces of information and is in no way sufficient to express God or to be a translator of the truth of the Ultimate Truth. To date, thousands, perhaps, millions of people have tried to relate about the Essence of the Ultimate Truth and to describe Him based on their inspirations—May God reward them for their efforts! The excitement of the heart, the tears and the ink of the pen have cooperated numerous times to describe Him, but every time everything has been entrusted to the realms beyond and those further beyond, and self-possession has been preferred. What is most proper to do in this respect must be to remain content with His Own particular descriptions and instructions, saying:
How can it be possible to describe the All-Protecting Owner! What is proper is not to attempt to describe Him. If the goal and result of all these attempts to know God and to make Him known is our servanthood to Him, our love of Him, and our pleasing Him, then we should pursue these with our outer and inner senses and our faculties to try to reach our goal. He has never disappointed those who have turned to Him with love and attachment and He has never abandoned those who come to His door, or left them unrewarded.
The meaning of servanthood is explicit, and there are two aspects of “love of God.” The first is loving Him, while the other is being loved by Him. Mentioning these two aspects, the Qur’an says: God loves them, and they love Him (5:54). That is to say, God Himself and His servants both love and are loved. This love is certainly different from the love we feel for other people. God’s love of His servants is being pleased with them and favoring them with a happy end, while the believers’ love of and yearning for Him is on account of His being the sole Source of all beauty, perfection, favor, as well as all gifts, bounties, and bestowals.
Loving Him and feeling attachment to Him is something from among His gifts and favors. For this reason, being a translator for others who resembled him, a saintly friend of God is reported to have said: “I thought that I knew, loved, and was seeking Him; I thought I was pursuing His good pleasure. But later I came to realize that I had been following Him in His mentioning, loving, and seeking me.” That is, we know, love, mention and seek Him because He makes us know, love, mention and seek Him.
The respected Junayd al-Baghdadi expresses the same reality as follows: “I have known God by God Himself; also by God Himself or through the messages of His Messenger have I come to know the true nature of all other than Him.” No matter with what Attributes He has described Himself through His inspirations and Revelations on different wavelengths, He is the All-Transcending One describable only with those Attributes, and no matter with what Names He refers to Himself, He is the All-Sacred One Who is called by those Names. Neither does His Essence or Essential Being resemble other beings, nor are His Attributes like the attributes of others. He is the First and there is none preceding Him and there is no time preceding Him; He is the Last and He makes our consciousnesses aware of eternity and His being eternal.
Saintly friends of God have advanced toward the mysteries that belong to Him through the manifestations of His Acts in the outer and inner worlds, and then through the manifestations of His Names, and then through the manifestations of His Attributes, and then through the manifestation of His Essence. They have crowned their immaterial, invisible journey with certain kinds and degrees of visions of Him that they have attained by means of the favors and regards with which they have been honored. They have made great efforts to be able to experience manifestations of His Essence with great yearning, sometimes sighing and weeping for their pitiable states during their journey, and at others rejoicing with the breezes of nearness to and familiarity with meeting Him. They have criticized and supervised themselves in great shame before Him, paying at His door their most humble respects, and continuing their journey half-dead and half-alive. How beautiful is the following description of these experiences:
I was ashamed of myself in the realm of love; turning to my body, soul, and heart, I reprimanded myself. I leveled to the ground the building of self on the path of love; O Nigari,[6] I destroyed my physical existence for the treasure of His love. In a poem in his Diwan-i Kabir, the respected Mawlana Jalalud- Din ar- Rumi speaks about love for God as follows:
It is incumbent upon lovers to search for the Friend. Like a wild flood, rubbing their faces against the ground and striking their heads against rocks, they should run until they reach the Friend’s river. Actually, it is He Who both wills and chooses. We sometimes go toward the Friend’s river babbling like a running water, and sometimes remain kept in His pitcher like standing water. And other times come when we boil like an earthenware pot on fire.
What those who know Him should do is to advance, babbling like water and weeping day and night. If those who do so are also able to read accurately whatever there is around them, they will one day be rewarded abundantly with knowledge and love of Him and be able to realize the true purpose of their existence.
O God! I ask You for resignation after calamity or any of Your decrees or judgments concerning me, the coolness of life after death, the pleasure of observing Your Face, and the zeal to meet You without suffering the harm of anything harmful, or any misleading intrigue and mischief. And bestow, O Lord, blessings and peace on the Inaugurator and Seal of Prophethood, on his Family and Companions, may God be pleased with them all.
[1] Sayyid Sharif al-Jurjani (d. 1413): One of the leading theologians of the 15th century. He visited Istanbul in 1374, and upon his return, in 1377, he was given a teaching appointment in Shiraz. Sharhu’l-Mawaqif is his most famous work.  [2] In this translation God is always used to mean Allah. [3] Imam ‘ Ali is ‘ Ali ibn Abi Talib (606–661): One of the first four to embrace Islam and one of the greatest Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, and his cousin and son-in-law, as well as the last of the four rightly-guided Caliphs. He was renowned for his profound knowledge, deep spirituality, and great courage, for his sacrifices for God’s cause, and for his eloquence.  [4] Accident in philosophy means something which is added to a substance or into which a substance grows or develops over time. It is therefore not a substance.  [5] Related from the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings, in Ibn Hajari’l- Asqalani, Fathu’l-Bari, 6:289; al-Alusi, Ruhu’l-Ma‘ani, 9:106. [6] Seyyid Mir Hamza Nigari was a Sufi poet from Azerbaijan. He wrote lyrical poems to express God’s love.

Tombsona : Lifeform Codex
Multiverse [[fandom]]: The Living Tombstone
Prime [[Canon]] Examples: zero_one, Rust, Armstrong, Tesla, Doc, Geist
Outer dimensional entities transcend time and space and attach themselves to host lifeforms by fate. They are considered rare in and of themselves to every given universe they had first manifested and can span past multiple universes with varying methods of bonding to a host. Some actively profile their hosts while others happen to bond with their hosts in the right set of circumstances. A constant general profile they all share is a skull mask on their faces.
The body of the hosts are infused with mysterious substance called soulite that have a wide range of colors and tones. Some even have been said to master void and infinity but only within certain contexts.
They are not conventionally ‘alive’ and it’s still unclear their actual origins save for legends mentioning a ‘Progenitor’. This has become a double-edged sword because of those who seek their power and/or see tombsonas as an existential threat. Some have gone so far as to create synthetic ones such as Geist in the prime universe. It's unclear if they can find a host or if their existence is finite, at least the hostless ones.
- Full disclosure, there are indeed exceptions to whats layed out in this lifeform codex and it’s also more Fanon/headcanon and is subject to change once more canon information is to come out via TLT’s lore channel (or maybe even here) by Sam Haft himself.

More - that's the word which seems to be at the center of all my pursuits. Though deeply content, with no complaints at all, and enough gratitude for all that's been received and equally for all that's been lost, there's this one word which seems to be the leading philosophy and dominant sentiment within - something more than what's already been seen in life. Something more than what this finite world has to offer. Something more than just the plain and the ordinary. Something more than the monotonous mundane. Something more than a predictable pattern. Something more than what this concrete three dimensional space could give. I'm certain there are parallel universes existing as much as in the outer space and so within the world underneath our skins. While astronomy is all about the exterior, metaphysics is all about the inner universe and which more convincingly is far more broader in its scope of existence. As though there's still so much more for us to even embark upon and explore, let alone to discover the heights awaiting. I still refuse, that as real as it may seem to be that I'm this flesh, this bone, this blood - there's some more to me, a thousand paradises waiting and so a thousand miserable hells. How would I tread, what would I seek, from where would I begin - this grand journey into myself, for more - for something more than what's apparent to the naked eyes...

Hello.
May I request Rook ? Thank you.
- 🪰
Rating: General Audiences  Archive Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply Category: Gen Fandom: Twisted Wonderland  Relationships: Epel Felmier & Rook Hunt & Vil Schoenheit Characters: Epel Felmier, Rook Hunt, Vil Schoenheit Additional Tags: fluff Summary: Pomefiore takes a trip to a museum to appreciate some fine art. Epel, however, doesn't understand how this stuff can be considered "art". Rook decides to do his thing and praise the understated beauty to help Epel understand. A/N: You gave me too much freedom, Mi Love. Now you get two gay dads trying to raise their problem child to appreciate artwork. Also, I know you speak French and that makes me fear what you will think as you read this hot mess. lol
Tumblr media
"C'est magnifique, non?"
"I haven't the foggiest idea what you just said, but it sure is… something." Epel shook his head, unsure of what exactly to say about the work of art – if you could really call it that – in front of him.
"Something it indeed is," Rook gushed in his usual manner that both overwhelmed Epel and made him slightly uncomfortable. "Such vibrant colors conveying the range of human emotions in such a concise and elegant form. It truly makes one feel humbled."
"It's a buncha squares."
There was no other way to describe what Epel was seeing other than that. It was a single canvas with a small yellow square inside of a black square of nearly the same size inside of a larger white square inside of a red square that filled the entire outer edge.
Epel looked at the piece of art in confuzzlement. "I was making the same thing with a box of crayons when I was a sprout."
"Your scribbles weren't valued in the millions." Vil finally interjected, tired of listening to Rook trying to educate a stubborn child who refused to hear the actual praise.
Vil wore his blonde hair back in a messy bun. His eyes were covered by slim framed sunglasses that obscured his eyes and there was a flora silk scarf around his neck to try and hide some of his other recognizable features from public view. Although, it was hard not to recognize his distinct frame and build even under his attempt to obfuscate it under clothing.
A slight frown crossed Epel’s face. "I'm just saying it doesn't take that much talent to make some squares. It ain- isn't the same as those other pictures with all the details."
"They're called landscapes," Vil informed him, "and they are quite beautiful and require a keen eye to make."
"Mais cela a sa propre beauté!" Rook beamed. "One can appreciate the fine work that goes into capturing the experience of the human eye and the grandiosity of such a sight; there is a reason humans never grow tired of seeing the sun rise and set. This price is beautiful in its own way though.
"It captures what the eyes cannot. It tries to materialize the emotions of man into a single, finite, unchanging image. It tells an incroyable story with only one shape and four colors. There are no brush strokes to give away that it was made by hand, the squares are perfectly centered, it was made without any sketching or planning on the canvas. It's as if it was made by something otherworldly, but we know that's not possible because the artist's name is attached to the piece. We know that un beastman made this with only their hands. Does that dissonance not stir something inside of you, Monsieur Pommette?"
Epel stared at Rook with concern.
Vil stood back and listened to Rook's analysis of the piece until the end before he spoke. "It's not wrong to appreciate a landscape. They are a classic form of art and require an eye for fine detail. It's also not wrong to say that a work of art isn't meant for you. However," Vil snapped, "I will not allow the skill, practice, and hard work that goes into creating artwork like this as well. The artist is not less talented and puts in no less effort than any other and such efforts should be recognized even when we do not like the end results."
"Ah, Roi du Poison, I knew you would understand." Rook smiled from ear to ear. "Do you see the beauty in this artwork now, Monsieur Pommette?"
"Suuuure," Epel said hesitantly.
Then he went quiet.
He didn't understand what either of them was saying, but he also didn't want to hear them lecture him any more than necessary – which was not at all. All he wanted was to get through this strange experience as quickly as possible.
